This week: Saying Goodbye to Soccer

  • What do you do when an activity that once brought your child so much joy no longer does?
  • What do you do when you, as a parent, are highly invested in your child’s activities and they no longer want to do it?
  • It is difficult to learn to let go of the picture you had in your head, and the direction you thought your child was heading, when they no longer want to do the activity they have been doing for so long.
  • It is ok to sit with the information for a day or two before taking steps to make the change.
  • Be excited when your child wants to try a lot of different activities! Just because you are good at something does not mean you are passionate about it.
  • How you can approach the “what do you want to do when you grow up” conversation.
  • Remember to check in with your child often and gauge where they are in enjoyment of what they are participating. Ask if there are things they are interested in trying.
  • Remember that change and new challenges are good for personal growth.
  • Seeing your child be excited and passionate about something will make you feel great.
  • Help your child to make decisions that make them happy, rather than simply to please someone else.
