Speaker 1: Hi everybody, and welcome to the Renee Subsentis podcast. And I am joined by my trusty roommate Broody, my favorite German Andrea Pekovich once again, and we're bringing it to you. We're doing this actually in the evening, so we're not a rushing to the post office or rushing to get into a car.

00:00:29
Speaker 2: To go to the courts, because we means me that's exactly a correct.

00:00:38
Speaker 1: So anyway, we decided to do it in the evening because we're gonna have a little sleep in tomorrow and we're going to have a normal breakfast and we're gonna enjoy ourselves in the morning because we don't have to get out of here well bye, we we mean you don't need to get out of here at the crack. So so anyway, it was a great day. Oh my god, we had some upsets today. Oh I don't need know where to start, but I guess we should start with the biggest upset of the day. The world number one and eager Schiantech is out of the tournament. Petko, what in the f in f She gets through what we considered to be two unbelievably tough first rounds.

00:01:16
Speaker 2: In former champions.

00:01:17
Speaker 1: Sophia Cannon Daniel Collins are former finalists, and she battled through them both first set against Cannon, battled the entire match, coming back from fall one down against Daniel Collins, and loses to a nineteen year old check player.

00:01:32
Speaker 2: What the f do they put in their water in.

00:01:34
Speaker 1: The Czech Republic, Nuskova takes her out your thoughts you called the match.

00:01:39
Speaker 3: I called the match well right off the bat, before I say anything about the eager Linda Noskova from the middle of the second set on was red hot and streaking. There is a reason for that. We will talk about it. That eager tactically could have done maybe a few adjustments that would have helped that. But this has to be set right up front. From three to all in the second set until the end of the Manchlinda and Oskova played some of the best tennis that I've seen from her but generally, and we had an incredible stat that said that Noskova was hitting the ball harder than Medvedev and Ogieli Asim, who were playing at the same time on Margaret Court Arena. So just to give you an idea, this was a really tough matchup for Ega, despite the name being maybe a lesser name than a canon or a Danielle Collins. Here's what I will say about Ega. We both know that she's an anxious person. Actually not off the court, but as a tennis player. She's an anxious person. That anxiety drives her to be the best in the world. That's what makes her work so hard, That's why she's so intense on court. But she is an anxious person. And I do think this draw took a lot of energy out of her. And she played them in a good form. She played Danielle Collins and a good form, and she played Sofia Cannon at a very good form. So these were not they were in a good form or she was. They were in a good form like they weren't like Sophia Kennon coming back from injury or Danielle Collins making surgery, not making any shots. They were playing good tennis, really good tennis. And I think it took a lot of mental energy it took.

00:03:19
Speaker 1: We just saw we were the only match that's still going on is vere But we just saw him miss literally completely miss aforehand, like not like miss.

00:03:27
Speaker 2: It wide, like he actually ran out to hit it and he missed the ball. So anyway, carry on because he's about to win. But that was shocking.

00:03:34
Speaker 3: Sorry, that was literally the worst shot I think.

00:03:39
Speaker 1: Although anyway, carry on, I got another one because how long today missed an overhead on top.

00:03:43
Speaker 2: Of the net. Were you watching that match when she was?

00:03:46
Speaker 3: That was so important? And oh no at six five? Yeah, I was like the third. Anyway, we will carry on about it. I think it took a lot of mental energy out of her. I think it also took some We know.

00:03:58
Speaker 1: She relaxed after getting through, not relaxed because Ego doesn't know how to relax, like not when it comes to a tennis but do you think it took a lot out of her into the point where she was probably like, okay, whew through that test. All right, now I've got a young player that's very good. Blah blah blah, but boy, it's no Daniel Collins slash Sophia Cannon.

00:04:18
Speaker 3: I do think there was some to it. I don't think that she relaxed, because she's not the type of player to relax, but I do think that she she had They had played before, and Ego won fairly easily six four six one was that in pra No in Warsaw.

00:04:32
Speaker 2: Oh that's right, yes, on hardcore, on.

00:04:34
Speaker 3: Hardcore, and and so I do. But I do think that she expected her to play worse. And if everything had gone normal, this would have been a six four six four match, and it would have been a tough one. It was in Poland exactly, it would have been a tough match. But Noscova just unlocked another pace and I think she was with her back to the wall and she just said to herself, Fuck, if I go out, I'm going out swinging, and all of a sudden she was seeing the ball. Laura Robson was calling the match with me, said it, she's seeing the ball as big as a football, and she kept stepping in more because she was seeing the ball so so big and she was just feeling it. But I do think that it took a lot out of Egan and we had an interesting stat she was and when has that ever happened? For Iago Siontek. She was of the players remaining in the draw. She was the one with the second longest match playing of all at the Australian Open. She's been on court for five hours and six minutes. I don't think that's ever happened for her to have to fight through these tough, tough.

00:05:41
Speaker 1: Times and then all of a sudden and then the doubt creeps in a little bit, right, So you saw that again, Like in her previous match with Daniel Collins, I was setting to love and then all of a sudden kind of got a little bit tight. Mister one or two returns and then neck gives Daniel Collins a little bit of hope and then she goes fuck it, Like Daniel Collins is that type of person. Oh, I'm just gonna throw caution to the wind now because I can, because I have the ability to do that and hit the ball hard. She's not gonna be like like Switzlina is not going to really go off.

00:06:08
Speaker 2: I can start hitting winners. I mean she can sort of.

00:06:11
Speaker 3: She has picked it up definitely, but she's not.

00:06:14
Speaker 2: Not deserved like this.

00:06:16
Speaker 1: Maybe swit Dealen is the wrong person. Maybe you know somebody else called Gough.

00:06:21
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, maybe Coco is not going to really start.

00:06:24
Speaker 1: Caroline wasn't the Yeah, okay, there's a better, better example. But but Noskova, on the other hand, just as you said, nothing to lose starts stepping in and all of a sudden, maybe the scar tissue of the previous matches here at the Australia I have been, particularly the Daniel Collins maybe started creeping into.

00:06:39
Speaker 2: Her mind a little bit.

00:06:40
Speaker 1: And then the crowd also, we're getting on and into it and getting wanting Noskova to like keep going, and they wanted it more, more of a match, so then they were like really loud, and that kind of affects you if you're a bit of an anxious person, which Eager is. And then all of a sudden, and Darren Cahill was saying on our coverage that he felt like the eger just played her into it the match by continuing to just want to hit the ball harder and harder and harder. And Naskova is the type of person that's perfect for her. All the check players love flat hard balls. They grew up playing a lot indoors, and that was perfect for her as opposed to continually putting a little bit more spin on the forehand, throwing up a couple of high balls, kicking the serve as a first serve as opposed to only as the second serve, Because when your opponent is standing back anticipating a flat first serve, they're not really expected and or expecting a kick serve as a first serve, and then often they make errors on that. So I think that tactically Eager did not play a great match in the end as well.

00:07:37
Speaker 2: Well, let's get to give credit to Noskova quoll no.

00:07:41
Speaker 3: No, That's why I say she's going to be Yes, That's why I said up front this needs to be said. She was red hot and streaking, because I think every time we talk about players like Igashiantek, when we talk about players like Novak Djokovic, we are criticizing quote unquote on the highest standards of levels and the sort of perfectionism they bring to themselves as well. Like if I had been the EGA, the worst EGA version, if I had ever been that good, I would have been the happiest person to ever exist. Right, So this is not a standard I hold myself up to, but I think this is something that we need to that we just need to emphasize that this is the standard we hold them up and that's why she's so good, you know. So yeah, but let's get into the game plan code, because I want to get up and we'll get through it. Quickly. There are three things. Number One, we had a stat Noskova and the first set was playing approximately fifty five percent cross courds on her backhand and forty five percent down the lines. In the second set she was playing up to sixty percent back and down the lines and under fifty percent back and cross courts. What that means we know that players who have big backhands, big backhands down the line trouble ega on a fast court, on a fast court exactly clay, completely different. Sablenka, even even and even Jess Pagoula when she beat her in Montreal, can get that down the line. She plays it. She takes it so early that she takes but this is the one shot you can rush eager on on a fast surface, is with the back and down the line that is fairly seamless. Noscova changed her game plan and the second set. Whether that was thrown at her from outside or whether she had the instinct for it, that was one of the things. The other thing is Eaga Shiontek. She kept insisting on returning on the same show.

00:09:36
Speaker 1: Ah, you've got to change your return position up from time to time, particular when you playing against the server who it's really big flat service, which is what Discover.

00:09:45
Speaker 3: Does flat a lot of flat, so.

00:09:47
Speaker 2: The flat is going to come straight to you. Okay, may she might ace you.

00:09:50
Speaker 1: Here and there, but you also, she's young. You have to get in her head a little bit.

00:09:54
Speaker 2: And Eagle was so stubborn.

00:09:56
Speaker 1: Was standing on top of the baseline trying match point was a perfect example. It was a really good serve. But if she'd been standing maybe two or three feet back further, that would have been a routine foehand. Instead, it had to be perfect and she hit it long.

00:10:09
Speaker 2: So yeah, very stubborn.

00:10:11
Speaker 1: I'm surprised that, you know, her coaching box wasn't like telling her to least mix it up a little bit. But that was an error on her half and not hitting enough variety of all.

00:10:21
Speaker 3: That's the third.

00:10:21
Speaker 2: And she has the spin, eager to be able to hit a high ball. She'll do it on clay.

00:10:25
Speaker 1: She'll throw up a high ball every now and again, and that's what she should have really been probably doing in this particular match.

00:10:30
Speaker 3: Well, yeah, exactly. That's the third thing. You mentioned it before already, that she didn't really change it up. She didn't. Slices are not her thing. But as you said, she can't hit the heavy fourhand rotation. She should have tried that though a little bit she didn't. And again, just we started with it and we're going to end with it. Linda and Noskova played an unbelievable match. She absolutely deserved this way, and she was so cool. She was so collected and calm and then overwhelmed by emotions after the match, but the way she kept them And I said it at the top of the third set. I said it on air because I called her match against Anjaba and a similar thing happened. She lost the first set really close, then she went on a red hot streak in the second set and then pulled back again in the third and lost it. And I said on air, she's already had that match where she pulled back. She will not do that again, and she didn't. And that just shows you how good this kid is going to be. She's nineteen years old.

00:11:25
Speaker 1: I thought on grass, did they feed them in.

00:11:28
Speaker 2: The Czech Republic? Well, you know what it is, They play against each other all the time in club.

00:11:33
Speaker 3: That's number one, number two. They have really good coaches. Again, the two coaches that were in a box David X, coach of Petro Kuitova. Next to him Krupka ex coach of Klishkova of Beardish. They have great coaches. There are two guys who have experience in winning slams or being in the latter stages of slams. They have talked to her, They have told her you can beat her. These are the things you need to do, and she went on the court believing she can.

00:11:59
Speaker 2: And she did it.

00:12:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, so anyway, all right, well there we go. The number one seed is out of the tournament. While shocking, particularly when she got through those first couple of matches.

00:12:08
Speaker 2: But that's the way the cookie crumbles in this occasion.

00:12:12
Speaker 1: And it has absolutely opened up that half the entire half of the draw is unbelievable. We'll get to it because Kinwin Chan got through an absolute like nail biter today and she's probably a player, she was my player outside of the top ten that could surprise. And I'm looking pretty good right now because she's in a section of the draw that looks really good. But she got through against her Chinese opponent Wang. What a great match point it was.

00:12:39
Speaker 2: It was crazy, she played really well, she got a little what do you think about her game though in general.

00:12:45
Speaker 3: So first of all, she is the highest seed left in the section of the draw. She's the number twelve seed, so she is the highest seed left in that section.

00:12:56
Speaker 2: After draw, which.

00:12:57
Speaker 3: Already tells you that it has fallen apart a little.

00:13:00
Speaker 2: Let me tell you who's in that section. Okay, well half, because we've done the draw in front of me.

00:13:05
Speaker 1: Now on Noskova plays Switzerlina as a ranker plays Yastremska, Paulini plays Kalinskaya, and kinwen Chen plays Ocean Dodan. One of those people is going to make the final of this train open, I said, well, it's Elena is going to make the finals of this train upen.

00:13:23
Speaker 2: I really do believe that.

00:13:24
Speaker 3: I mean, Vika played really well today.

00:13:27
Speaker 2: I disagree. I thought she played I thought she served pretty well served. But the problem with Vika is that the serv comes and goes. It comes and goes.

00:13:35
Speaker 1: And she played a very inform Ostapenko, but a very not inform Ostapenko today. She was not good Ostapenko today. She made so many unfosteros and nis you go, oh, she always makes unfosa's, but she was making unforeceterous that she wasn't making in the last couple of weeks, and she was missing a lot in big moments.

00:13:55
Speaker 2: She was up five too.

00:13:55
Speaker 1: In the second Vika hung around, she got back and she Vika served well when she needed to. She also double faulted a couple of times. She's also hitting second serves that were that a Oskova.

00:14:07
Speaker 2: Or hit a winner on.

00:14:09
Speaker 1: An eager Shantek would have hit a winner on, but Ostapenko was missing them left and right. So I just don't And I obviously Vika is a two time champion here, so she knows how to win her at this train Open.

00:14:21
Speaker 2: But I didn't think her tennis was was that good today.

00:14:24
Speaker 1: It was just Ostapenko was having a bad Ostapenko day well, and then and and maybe maybe Vika was playing two the level and you often do as a player, You often play to the level of your opponent, and maybe she was just like in the first set, she was literally just hitting the ball in the court and Penka was making millionaires. So I don't know, but you have to obviously, as a ranker, knows how to win this tournament, so you clearly know that she can do it again.

00:14:48
Speaker 2: But she's up against Rastremska.

00:14:50
Speaker 3: That's a very tough draw. I mean because the cup for these good she's like Maskova, yes.

00:14:55
Speaker 2: And like Anissimova. They just hit the ball so pew and so good.

00:14:58
Speaker 1: And she's come through qualifying. She's play so many matches, so her confidence is high.

00:15:02
Speaker 2: She's young.

00:15:03
Speaker 1: If she stays fit and healthy, who knows, but you would think as Aarenka would win that.

00:15:07
Speaker 2: But still that's a matchup that who knows.

00:15:18
Speaker 1: Poor old blinky blink Over Linkover just couldn't bring it back today and she lost to Paulini, a completely different player to rebark in Out.

00:15:27
Speaker 2: But she's kind of one of my favorite players.

00:15:28
Speaker 3: Paolini, I love her too, And it has to be said, Paulini has been playing really good tennis for the past few months. She was the MVP after Leila Fernandez during the Billy Jing King PAP weeks. She won all of her matches against which is not really doring, so she's been playing well. This is not coming out of nowhere for her. I want to say, she's.

00:15:50
Speaker 2: Literally my favorite player. I love watching her play.

00:15:53
Speaker 1: She's like five foot one and a half, I mean maybe five foot three, but she is she has.

00:15:59
Speaker 3: The art of like three lions.

00:16:03
Speaker 2: It's unbelievable. And she's fun, and she.

00:16:06
Speaker 3: Three lions on Crystal Math.

00:16:09
Speaker 1: Grystal, I'm going to write that joke till Roger Federer on Crystal Math.

00:16:14
Speaker 2: She just she just she's just fun to watch.

00:16:18
Speaker 1: She's fun, she's tiny, she doesn't have a lot of weaknesses, she doesn't have huge weapons, but she's such a competitor and she beat blink Over today and now she plays Kalinskaya, who we've all known is a really good tennis player and hits the ball beautifully, very similar in so many ways to so many Russians, and check where they just hit such.

00:16:38
Speaker 2: A pure ball. But she's always been a.

00:16:40
Speaker 3: Little bit she plays different though. Yeah, she has a little variety and she plays good at the net, she plays angles seek.

00:16:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, she's been coached by Patricia Tarabini now for years and years and years. And if anyone you know is a true tennis fan, for a long time, Patricia Tarabini was a very good singles player and a very good doubles player, had every shot in the book, Like what a crazy person to play against. She was a nightmare in so many ways. So I'm sure she's passed on a lot of her variety of her game into Kellen Skyer's game and has allowed Kellen sky to sort of grow and make the mistakes and be a bit dumb on the court and make dumb decisions. But I think Patricia's that type of person that sort of hasn't stopped her from being creative, but also has tried to discipline her and saying, look, you can do this and that, but you've gotta sometimes you just got to hit the ball cross god. You know, you can't be hitting a drop shot on everything or something. So it's nice to see Kelln Skyer, But I think that was a match that Sloane Stephens is going to really regret because she was up a break, I believe, three to one in the third set and ended up losing that match.

00:17:44
Speaker 2: And you know, when you think about as someone like a Sloane.

00:17:46
Speaker 1: Stephens in that section of the draw, as a Grand Slam champion at her best, we know that Sloan is unbelievable when she's confident.

00:17:54
Speaker 2: So I think she'll be ruining that loss. But Kalinsky now against PEERLINI I mean that's just nuts.

00:18:00
Speaker 3: When plays Where.

00:18:01
Speaker 2: Did Dodan come from from?

00:18:03
Speaker 3: College to I think or she.

00:18:06
Speaker 1: Was in the draw, but she played a qualified today Clara Bull who sorry was in the draw.

00:18:13
Speaker 3: But let's talk about she does, especially on the back end. I played her in my last French Open. I played right now, we're sitting there. Yeah, so I hearing her quite well. Well, let's talk about you in one because she has a lot of potential. Obviously we've been talking about her forever and she has a really nice combination of Chinese mentality, very hard worker, disciplined, disciplined, takes the ball early. This is actually the one thing.

00:18:44
Speaker 2: I'm saying discipline in fact that you know you can.

00:18:48
Speaker 3: The work ethic, the work ethic. Yeah, very and she like listens. You can hear I was sitting court sete today for that match, so you can hear Pera Riba who's coaching her, telling her things and right away she's trying to implement them right. Very good serf, incredibly heavy forehand.

00:19:05
Speaker 2: Very good serve I think them when it comes she hits, I know when she hits it in.

00:19:11
Speaker 3: But she hit today. She had fourteen aces and when she had the first serve in she won eighty five percent.

00:19:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, she has a very big serve when.

00:19:19
Speaker 3: It goes with big. So she has that twitch on the toss the ball toss.

00:19:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, if I was I mean, if I was coaching on that anxiety watching that, it's.

00:19:28
Speaker 3: It's okay, it's not. It doesn't go off that badly.

00:19:31
Speaker 2: Why does that happen? Like can you imagine her?

00:19:33
Speaker 3: She stops, well, she stops and then goes again. It's a it's a little strange. The one thing I will say for her, she's incredibly talented. The sky is the limit. The one thing I will say for her. She doesn't take balls on the rise and she lets her opponent that moves well, and Yafan Wang was moving well into the point over and so she and that's why that match point went on for so long, because she keeps letting it down and she hits it again, and because she's so good. That's the Spanish and that's the Spanish influence, and there is so much good in the Spanish influence, because she has that heavy forehand and she has that whip and she has a spin. But she needs to approach those short bass and take them on the rise. Then she doesn't have to hit him so hard, doesn't have to take so much risk, just puts it, and she has such an explosive arm and explosive first step. She will be basically part of the Big three that we have or big four big I think.

00:20:30
Speaker 2: I think on clay, when you think about how she.

00:20:33
Speaker 1: Pushed that one year when Ego was not pushable on clay, she pushed her.

00:20:38
Speaker 2: She's going to be really good on clay. So look out for kinwin.

00:20:41
Speaker 1: But guess what, she's my outsider to do well here. And I think I'm looking for you damn good because I think she's going to be good. I mean, if she plays her best, she beats Dodan and I think she beats killing Sky or Paolini, and I think you'll see her in the semi final.

00:20:53
Speaker 2: So I'm looking like a bloody genius.

00:20:55
Speaker 1: But on the men's side, I think that's all with the women's On the men's side, Switzerlena got through it quite comfortably, but the Sitzelena was the last one.

00:21:05
Speaker 3: Oh, okay, s.

00:21:06
Speaker 2: Telena got through.

00:21:06
Speaker 1: I think I texted Sam Stowzer after suit Deelena is going to be in the final, like and actually listen, if suit Delena got to the final along the tournament, I'd be so bloody happy for her because she's been so close so many times at Grand Slam level. Wimbledon was a disaster where she lost that match where she should have won. And I saw her in the locker room because she was literally letting right next to me in the locker room at Wimbledon.

00:21:27
Speaker 2: She was stayed.

00:21:30
Speaker 1: When I say devastated, devastated, she was heartbroken like crazy.

00:21:33
Speaker 2: So I would love to see her get to the final. But there's a lot more tennis to go. The men's Oh my god, I was there.

00:21:41
Speaker 1: He had two match points, he had he was in the rally on the guy serve. I believe it was at six ' four in the tiebreak, he made a shocking forehand error, just shanked it and he was like, oh god.

00:21:54
Speaker 3: Wait is that chucking Tommy Paul.

00:21:55
Speaker 2: I know, but he was.

00:21:56
Speaker 1: I mean, the guy hits the ball well, he just it was just a bad era the four.

00:22:00
Speaker 3: But when he always called so many matches and he's so good. He's maybe the most complete athlete that I've seen. And on a tennis court, every time he can win a match that's really would be really important. He shanks three fourhands and the worst part is about that. Not the worst, the best part for him. He still wins most of these matches, that's how good he is.

00:22:22
Speaker 1: But unfortunately, when he did shank that forehand, I was like, okay, you got one on serf.

00:22:26
Speaker 2: Now he missed the first serve.

00:22:28
Speaker 1: And he was in the point and he had just a routine backhand and missed the backhand in the net. Like what that you don't see That's like, you just don't see that ever, So that was shocking, and then the guy just, you know, kiss Mendovitch just stepped up Keetsmanovitch stepped up to the plate after that and was like, Oh, this guy's tight as fuck.

00:22:51
Speaker 2: I'm just going to go for it. And he did.

00:22:53
Speaker 1: And then the fifth set, I don't know, I don't know if there's something going on physically with Tommy. He did not look fresh and he did not look good. And I believe it was the maybe six ole point in the tiebreak. They played an unbelievably long point and he lost it. Tommy Paul and he keeled over and he was grabbing. It was just like dying. And you don't see that from now because he's like marathon man. He can play a fifty bowl rally and look like he hasn't even run.

00:23:13
Speaker 3: So he is literally, what I mean, one of the most complete athletes. I really mean it. Yeah, if you by that, I mean somebody that is fast and endurance and explosive and quite strong. I mean he's not obviously Ben Shelton, but he is pretty strong. I mean he gets a good pop on his backhand and serve. I love Tommy. Such a good kid, and he's such a great comparit all Americans are, I have to say, And I credit that to the American school system. Sport is so important from the first moment you step foot in a high school, in a college, whatever it is. And I knew every time I stepped on the court against an American, I knew they were going to be incredible competitors, whether they could play on clay or not, or they were great tennis player, but I knew they would compete from first moment to the last. They would not complain except for Cocoa and I go go for colleagues now, So I think she knows that she makes fun of herself, So I think she knows. But that was, like, that's such a great thing about Americans in all sports, probably, but in tennis it's very evident that and I always say it's no accident that the two richest from or coming from wealthiest background are both Americans. I don't think any other country would three three, yes, three, Pa and Manavara exactly. And they are all incredible competitors. They all leave their heart out on the on the court.

00:24:45
Speaker 2: He was it was so sad.

00:24:46
Speaker 1: I don't know, as I said, I think he had something going on in the fifth set with these legs.

00:24:50
Speaker 3: But he has also to be said Manovich. He plays really well in Australia. He likes like a medium fast, hardcore. He plays almost like and he's gonna hate me for saying that, but I mean that in the best possible way. He almost plays like the best woman in the world, if that makes sense, because he plays very flat. He takes the ball. He's fourhanded, with a lot of spin. But for a man less maybe, yeah, yes, for a man less but for I'm.

00:25:18
Speaker 2: Going to disagree with you on that one. But you do you, girlfriend, you do you?

00:25:23
Speaker 3: And me and Mir kids manage as one American announcer once called him, Mishmir kak Man.

00:25:34
Speaker 1: And I've so many times when I see him, I'm like, hey, mishmak Man, and he's so passed off every time, and I just.

00:25:43
Speaker 3: Can't stop myself.

00:25:44
Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's so fair. So buddy, all right, sorry, Mimy. You had a win today and it was pretty spectacular. Four hour match.

00:25:50
Speaker 2: He went six to four in a six love in the fifth set.

00:25:54
Speaker 1: As a ranker, we already talked about won the match. You thought she played great. I thought it was.

00:25:59
Speaker 3: I was, well, let's talk about the man, because we've been Alcaraz Alcaraz.

00:26:03
Speaker 1: He just got the greatest match today against Jerry Shang. We were hoping because Jerry's so fun, such a great guy, such a great player.

00:26:10
Speaker 2: He obviously went in with that leg injury. It was taped. It was not looking good.

00:26:14
Speaker 1: And you don't want to play Carlos Alcarez when you're injured because you have to run, and so that was not gonna happen. So six one, six one and then a default in summary he tried and summary, how has Carlos looked to you?

00:26:27
Speaker 3: Okay?

00:26:28
Speaker 2: But what's amazing is.

00:26:29
Speaker 1: That he goes into every Grand Slam in the last twelve months, is the favorite, and everyone's talking about him.

00:26:33
Speaker 3: But nobody.

00:26:36
Speaker 1: It's crazy and sinner and maybe even Medvedad and no one's talking about it's so true guy, the one Wimbledon last year.

00:26:45
Speaker 3: Because for those of you at home who are listening, maybe not in Australia right now, you get a buzz when you're around the tennis about players. You can feel people just mentioning names over and over in Novak, Novak, no, no vacure, yes and you're right, exactly right, Yannick Senna, and a little bit Benvideth. Especially after today, I think there was a lot more Medvedev I heard, But for example, on the women's side and on the men's side, Sitolina on the woman's side, not one person has mentioned no. And Carlos said she's getting to the final now, yeah, well, and Carlos al Karas on the men's side. Strangely, there is just that's a great place to be. Place, that is a great place.

00:27:26
Speaker 1: And he got through comfortably today, so physically he's going to be just feeling very good, which is.

00:27:32
Speaker 3: But let's do it quickly because we've been overrunning our welcome. Don't we have to do like ten.

00:27:38
Speaker 2: Weeks what we want.

00:27:39
Speaker 1: But Medvedev looked really good today, considering he finished a match at four am, literally a day and a half ago.

00:27:47
Speaker 2: His FAA, he's so frustrating. I just feel like.

00:27:51
Speaker 1: He's so anxious and tight. He's not like the male version of eager, but just not as good obviously not as accomplished. But his service stiff, his ground, he's the stiff. I feel like he plants his feet too early. His volleys are so stony, like she just he's got brick hands when he comes into the net.

00:28:09
Speaker 2: I just want him to loosen up a little bit. I want him to like feel the flow of a match. I want him to feel.

00:28:16
Speaker 1: Somebody said to me today who was sitting beside me, Wally Musso, who's a commentating of the World fare. He said, this guy's playing this guy's playing tennis out there meaning FAA, and this.

00:28:26
Speaker 2: Guy's playing a match.

00:28:28
Speaker 1: You know, Medvedev just knows how to play the match and measure himself. And Felix is like out there hitting balls and not really knowing what the hell he's doing. And Medvedev is just you could tell today he was not good today, like he was not solid, making so many errors for his standard, and I was like, god, you can tell that he's struggling a little bit, but he also knew he's never lost to this guy. This guy's going to give him for his shit, and that's exactly what happened.

00:28:52
Speaker 2: He just hung around. He actually played quite well.

00:28:54
Speaker 1: I feel like in the latter parts of the second set and the third set, he played the way we know he plays. So I think he's that's going to be huge for him. He'll get he got to bed. He's going to get to bed by at least like maybe midnight. He'll get a good night's sleep. He'll be back onto the rhythm of his schedule and everything.

00:29:12
Speaker 3: So to r R back to our our regular rhythm.

00:29:17
Speaker 2: Okay, thanks for that. I was like, it's so late, please cap all right.

00:29:21
Speaker 1: Zverev won his match even though he played the worst volley we've ever.

00:29:24
Speaker 3: Seen in the history of the world.

00:29:26
Speaker 2: And that's it, kids.

00:29:27
Speaker 1: I mean, the bottom line is you Stremska Kalinskaya.

00:29:30
Speaker 2: All the pings oh, I mean.

00:29:33
Speaker 3: He didn't use five.

00:29:34
Speaker 2: Said yeah, he'll be one in four sets. I love Hube. He's one of my favorites.

00:29:39
Speaker 3: And cam no I wanted to shout out cam Nur and he was so well to know so well, we have to shout out one more and I love that we are and the him. But cam Nurray already in the previous rounds he had some tough ones. He had a five setter, seven, sixth and the third, but he had in the fifth sorry, but he had this like Indian Wells energy again remember when he won, Yes, And I feel like with him it's a good court for him, it's a good court for him. And also with him, I feel like he needs to hang in the rallies for so long. It's really mentally tiring because he has to build the point, build the point, build the point. And he has that against Carlos al Chirez because for some reason he really wants to beat him. And he had that in that season when he won Indian Wells and I felt some of that vibe of those energies again from him.

00:30:29
Speaker 1: He's got a good game to beat Rude because he can take that backhand and slap across court and Rude, you know, he wants.

00:30:34
Speaker 2: Rude wants to run around the back.

00:30:36
Speaker 3: End and all most big forehands and so flat right, so he has to lift it up.

00:30:41
Speaker 1: He looked great today and he physically looks amazing. I saw him after the match.

00:30:45
Speaker 3: He's happy.

00:30:47
Speaker 2: Under his shirt or pants. I just saw him walk by.

00:30:52
Speaker 3: He'd had a show under the pants. Clearly, you're clearly homosexual, because we don't look under the pants exactly.

00:30:57
Speaker 2: Thank you very much.

00:30:58
Speaker 1: G a Y and uh, mister Borges, Oh my god, what a story.

00:31:05
Speaker 2: What a story. I mean, I'm a bomb for Gregor because I love him. He's a very good friend of mine. I do love him.

00:31:11
Speaker 1: And he fucked up in the fourth set. He had six five serving and played an incredible point to get set point, and you thought, okay, it's over. And he was up five two or three in the in the in the third, in the fourth set as well, so he really should have won that set.

00:31:27
Speaker 2: But then at six ft he double folded.

00:31:29
Speaker 1: And he hasn't been that's the one thing he hasn't been doing. He's double folding. Even after Medvedev's match, the on court interviewer said, well, now it was Jim Corey. He said, you know a player that you play next is blah blah, and he goes, oh, and and Medvedev go, oh, he won that yeah, And he.

00:31:45
Speaker 3: Goes and he said, because Grigor was on fire.

00:31:49
Speaker 2: Been on fire lately.

00:31:50
Speaker 1: So I'm sure that in Medvedev's mind he's like, shit, I gotta play Gregor.

00:31:54
Speaker 2: Now he's playing great.

00:31:55
Speaker 1: This is gonna be really tough. Not that Bogus is not going to be tough for him. But when you, as a player are a great player, and you your opponents that you know are great go out, you kind of get that little mini sense of relief, like, Okay, I know I got to beat this guy, but that kind of helps. Yeah, and you could sort of see it on his face. But Borges, what a great story.

00:32:14
Speaker 3: Such a great story, first Portuguese man or woman to make the second week of the Australian Open. Yeah, and he's just such a good vibe. He has such great energy, that big Smartese, his Portuguese great I guess, I don't know, I don't know.

00:32:32
Speaker 2: So many Portuguese people are so nice.

00:32:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's how I went, like the uber.

00:32:37
Speaker 1: Happy version of Spanish people. You know, they just really relaxed. My friend lives in Lisbon's.

00:32:42
Speaker 3: I was in the ones. I loved it was one of my favorite vacations. But but yeah, he's just.

00:32:46
Speaker 2: We digress, we digress, we digress very late.

00:32:49
Speaker 3: It's midnight thirty and I think Caitlyn, you have to edit a little bit.

00:32:53
Speaker 2: Midnight thirty. I've never heard that terminology. But anyway, everyone, it's twelve.

00:32:57
Speaker 3: kN edits a bit because there's too far. Be's fine, too.

00:33:00
Speaker 1: Long, twelve thirty am, and Petco and I are going to go to bed.

00:33:05

00:33:20
Speaker 3: And one more thing, oh no, you want to do one yet? One more thing for the person who knows how to exactly pronounce nouno because they have this beautiful soft way of saying words Portuguese people. I would love to get a voice memo from somebody pronouncing this name correctly, not like we butchered it.

00:33:40
Speaker 2: Oh yes, our orges.

00:33:43
Speaker 3: Yeah probably I don't know.

00:33:45
Speaker 2: Okay.

00:33:45
Speaker 1: For anyone out there that speaks Portuguese, you can tweet me or Petco or just write on our little thing here and.

00:33:52
Speaker 2: Tell us exactly how to say his name.
