Call eight five nine two seven to one joke or Physiccomedy Up Broadway dot com Broway. 00:00:30 Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. 00:00:36 Speaker 3: Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Monday, February the twenty fourth. I'm Matt Jones here in Louisville, Kentucky. It is Flag Day in Mexico, So to all of our Mexican listeners, Happy Flag Day. We got Ryan Lemon and Drew Franklin are in Lexington. Shannon is in the room next door to me, and you can give us a sh out on the Clark's Pumplish up phone line eight five nine two eighty seven. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. In this dish sponsored by the t J Smith Lovis called Tj'll Make Them Pay, Shannon, I don't have that little video where I can see your face here that. 00:01:13 Speaker 2: I enjoy looking at Ryan's face right now. 00:01:16 Speaker 3: I can't see your face, but you can see Ryan's. Yeah, you gotta switch that. I need to see you more than anything. Or let me see Ryan. That might actually make gegus. Can we do that? 00:01:26 Speaker 2: I'd have to come over there and yeah, it's a whole thing. 00:01:28 Speaker 3: Not during the show, Okay, Well, at some point eight nine two eight, twenty two eighty seven, Ryan, we lost to Alabama, UH in a game where we were up by double digits and then gave up the lead. And then yesterday the women lost to LSU in a game they were up by double digits in the first half and lost the lead. But in the Alabama game, which is what we'll focus on. At first, great start up twenty to nine, I think, even up at one point thirty to eighteen, and then all of us sudden, the offense just kind of stagnated probably for about ten minutes at the end of the second half. And you can't have any minutes against a team like Alabama where you don't score and we ended up losing. 00:02:13 Speaker 4: Yeah, my overall takeaway was that I was not really disappointed with the team at all. I thought their effort was really good. I thought their energy was really good. It came out and shot the ball really well. I just feel like, really being shorthanded at Alabama was just a better team. I mean, I think Kentucky played pretty well, but Alabama was just just better. 00:02:31 Speaker 3: You know. We sat there on the pregame show and we said, all right, Drew, what's the number that we have to hit? And I think the number I said was eighty four. But I said, if we hit eighty four, they're gonna have to miss shots because I just didn't think there was any way we could score ninety five to one hundred with the team that we were putting on the floor. And what's interesting, though, is that I think they all pretty much Drew hit the moment like the amount of point that they needed except Oway, and we just I mean, I think always over under was twenty one and he had two, and honestly, without getting production from him, we just didn't have enough offensive firepower. 00:03:12 Speaker 5: Yeah, they just needed more from Oway. If he could have gotten double digits, You're in it. And then uh, Travis Perez w one for five from three. He played a decent game, but if he could have just got some threes to go Trent Noa missing all those two You're in it. But for me, I went into that game thinking I'm emotionless, this is house money. They're probably gonna lose who cares and won't affect the seeding. We learned today they only dropped one spot. There's still a three seed. They went from eleven to twelve, so it really didn't hurt you. But then at the end, I found myself, you know, beat up. They had a chance. So even though I thought I wouldn't get to that point, I was still pretty disappointed in how it all played out. 00:03:43 Speaker 3: In the Yeah, I thought I was so like, this is a house money game rine that I didn't even get nervous watching, Like I went to the I went to the Turkey Hunter's house. 00:03:54 Speaker 6: I was. 00:03:54 Speaker 3: I was in a group of people watching the game, like twelve people. I just thought, well, we're not gonna win. Who cares? And then all of a sudden, you're up thirty to eighteen, and you go, well, wait a minute, you know, get back on defense. Come on, Brandon Garrison. Then all of a sudden, I'm right back to what I'm in in a regular game. Because even though on payper winning at Alabama might be the hardest game you play all year. You know, for a while we look like we could play with them, and then it just kind of collapsed. 00:04:21 Speaker 7: Yeah, I think you're right. 00:04:22 Speaker 4: I think it probably was overall their hardest game of the season, going to Alabama and play them coming off a two game losing streak. I knew they would be playing, they'd play well, but whene Kentucky came I started shooting basketball, I think we all did get sucked in there for a little bit, like, hey man, we can do this. We've beat good teams on the road before, so why can't we do it tonight? 00:04:38 Speaker 3: We just got we just you know, we just don't have enough scoring. And you can go, well, how do you talk about scoring when they scored ninety six. I mean, Drew, I don't know about you. I'm kind of giving up on our defense against good offensive teams. I think our defense has improved enough that we don't have to like give up eighty five to chump teams. But again, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, you know whatever. I'm just gonna assume those teams are gonna score a lot of points, and then the question is are we healthy enough to stay with them? And we're just I just don't think we're just not healthy enough. We don't have You know, you got the amount of points you wanted from Kobe Brea, You got the amount of points you wanted from Mamari Williams, you got them out. You want it from car Heck, you got we said on the pregame show, fifteen from the Freshman. We got it. We got the fifteen, but we just didn't get the o Way points and didn't get the Almanor points and I think ultimately maybe drew that's the difference. 00:05:38 Speaker 5: Yeah, you don't want to put it all on oh Way, but as your team's leading scorer this year to have two that was that was a pretty big hit and fouling out. He was just never really in the game. He had the bad play where it got swiped and went the other way for a dunk. I think it was a four point game at that point. Also thought my key to the game was stopping Grant Nelson. He had five points. I mean, I thought they did a good job. The Nies looks bad and you want to get disappointed, but Alabama's number one in the country. They averaged ninety one to ninety two a game, so I mean that's kind of what Alabama that is. Kentucky just needed a little more to hang with them and came up short and few areas. 00:06:12 Speaker 3: So you know, now, a lot of the talk after the game was on the postgame show, Ryan, I was amazed after a thirteen point loss, how much of the chatter was officiating. People really, really, really really didn't like the officiating. I even commented at one point during the game that I thought it was a really poorly officiated game. And the calls I think went a little bit for Alabama, maybe sixty five thirty five Alabama in terms of how I think. But at the same time, the free throws between the two teams, Shannon was about the same. The foul calls they we were called for three more I think than they were, so I mean it was basically about the same. I think there were some egregious bad ones, but I do think Shannon that Terry I've always said this, when you know a ref's name, it's never a good sign, and him following Caliperi or Calber, excuse me, Pope down. I'm used to refs following Calberry. Him following Mark Pope down the sideline to stare at him. I thought, like, is something that should get an official fined by the season? 00:07:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, walking them all the way back down to the bench. 00:07:24 Speaker 3: Staring at him, waiting for him to say something. He wanted him to say something. 00:07:28 Speaker 2: I saw Pope staring a couple of times too, though he kind of gave that Tubby Smith stare. 00:07:32 Speaker 3: But he didn't. 00:07:33 Speaker 2: I thought. I thought maybe at one point though, that was where he's gonna get Officials. 00:07:37 Speaker 3: Officials are supposed to be better like Ryan. To me, officials are like police. Right. We give police respect because and they get power because we have to have somebody like that. But in exchange, I hold police to a higher standard than the average citizen because of the power that we give them. Similarly, I think referees should act coaches at fools, but we give referees this power to make calls in games, and so referee should have a higher standard of behavior than coaches. So if a coach wants to stare down a ref. I'm alright with but a ref can't stare down a coach because they're on a higher plane of power in that game. And that's why I thought his behavior was so bad. 00:08:31 Speaker 7: Yeah, you really? 00:08:32 Speaker 4: I thought I felt like he was just trying to bait Pope. He was trying to bait him into saying something, so didn't team up. You remember a couple of well several years ago, that the ref stepped up to Scott Paget and Scott Paget's six ' eleven. He's like, are you stepping up to me right now? I think you know, I don't know what gives refs. 00:08:46 Speaker 7: The uh the uh. 00:08:48 Speaker 3: Pope is a foot taller than that guy. That's true, you know. I just I didn't like so. I didn't like that. Now. I do not think Drew we lost the game because the officiated. I was surprised how many of our our fans were taking that view. I'll ask you, Drew, you get you get emotional about officials. I'm not saying I don't, but you do. We ended up on a lawsuit about it. Do you what role do you think the officials had? 00:09:15 Speaker 5: I mean, I thought it was pretty terrible. I don't think it changed the game. And you know Mark Sears, that's how he plays. He does that Trey Young like throw his head back as soon as he drives to draw fouls. He's done that forever. He does a good game, He's good at it. Unfortunately that night they called them all. Really I had the biggest problem with what you just said, the walking Pope down because Pope was basically standing in the far corner and he stopped play to chase Pope down to stare at him. And then the one another one that really upset me is we get Travis Perry going to the rim early in the game and he got absolutely hammered. It spun him around on that one. So I was pretty I was fired up about some particular fouls, but overall that's just kind of what Sears does. And they were blowing the whistle every time. But there are a few that I was furious about. 00:09:57 Speaker 3: Mark Sears. Mark Sears is a great he'd a All American foul getter. Okay, he is a grade A throw yourself into a guy shan H. Shannon and get a call. He's as good as he's as good as they get it. That I was thinking, who is that. Who are the Kentucky guys that have been good at that? Ryan thinking, who were Kentucky guys that were really good at drawing fouls? I know we've had him. Yeah, Wall Wall was good at it. Wal Drew Wall would draw a lot of fouls. 00:10:32 Speaker 7: It seemed like Shade did was pretty good. 00:10:34 Speaker 3: Shay is a good call because Shay was long enough he could take the hit and still finish. 00:10:39 Speaker 2: Uh huh oh wait, this year isn't bad at it. I mean, I think he gets to the line quite a bit. 00:10:43 Speaker 3: He does, but he also gets blocked a lot. 00:10:46 Speaker 5: Tyler Ewis the second season he could get in the lane and even though you know, half the size of everyone, he'd put his body in and extend his arm out and throw that layup and he would draw fouls. 00:10:55 Speaker 3: Yeah, and he was little, so that probably, but great good Sears is great at it. So to some extent, the referees are going to fall for that because he's good at it, and. 00:11:05 Speaker 7: He's an eighty percent free throw shooters. 00:11:08 Speaker 3: It feels like they shot free throws really well. I don't know what they're pursuing. 00:11:11 Speaker 8: Five. 00:11:11 Speaker 2: Yeah, but when even when you play like that, you force the Reughs to make that call. 00:11:18 Speaker 3: You do. That's what I've been saying all year about we got to go into bodies now. I mean, Drew's right, Like when Travis Perry does that and doesn't get a call, it's frustrating. But you know, both Mark Pope's and Kenny Brooks after the game ride said yesterday I still don't know what a foul is in the SEC. They both said that yesterday or in their games this weekend. 00:11:36 Speaker 4: Well, I I heard your post game show, and I heard the callers, and I heard even you got a little a little tense, you know, and clapping back at the car. 00:11:44 Speaker 3: I got tins. I don't get tens. 00:11:46 Speaker 7: Well, what's the right word there? You you got a little spicy? Spicy? Spicy is a good word, being spicy, little, a little spicy. 00:11:53 Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm glad your and your mom text you said, hey, you need to calm down. 00:11:57 Speaker 3: She didn't say you need to calm down, Okay, she said she said you sound What was it she said something like you sound frustrate. 00:12:06 Speaker 7: Yeah, But to be honest, I was with you calm down. I was with you that the callers I thought were a little over the top. 00:12:13 Speaker 3: You say she wrote, you seem frustrate. Yeah, I feel like when you I don't want I don't want our fan base to be the boy who cries Wolf Shannon. Right, like, if every game, I mean, we lost by thirteen, and if every game it's the ref's fault, then when it is the ref's fault, no one's gonna listen. 00:12:32 Speaker 2: To, right because you hear all the time Kentucky fans complaining about playing around the file all the time. I mean, you go to the comment section on social media after any losses, always somebody blaming the refs. Doesn't matter. 00:12:43 Speaker 3: Yeah, so all overall we knew, I mean all year, I thought this was the game and this was a game we weren't gonna win. So it's not a huge deal. Now we play Oklahoma Wednesday, and that's a bigger deal. And so the question is what's gonna happen with Butler and Robinson. I have drew scuttle butt update on both. 00:13:02 Speaker 5: Okay, we like that. 00:13:04 Speaker 3: Scuttle butt from the ships of the Bridge of the British Admiral Age scuttle butt update, and we will take your calls open lines. Are you just not gonna answer the one call? You just don't want to answer that guy's call, Shannon, I see that he keeps ringing. You just don't want to talk to you. 00:13:20 Speaker 2: We'll take anybody, Yeah, but then when we put them on, don't be complaining to me. Why are you taking his call? 00:13:28 Speaker 3: That sound like that? Twenty two eighty seven. We'll take a break. Be right back to SKIS. Welcome back at it is Kentucky Sports Radio. Let me hear from you this morning eight five nine, twenty two eighty seven, Shanon, the psyche of fans is always interested in me. If I were gonna say, give me the best spaghetti six four one, oh yeah, Kentucky plays Alabama on the road. Full lines are open. 00:13:58 Speaker 2: They don't have an opinion on that. 00:13:59 Speaker 3: Have an opinion now they have a So you wonder, Matt, why do you talk about spaghetti? There you go. Now what is also interesting, Ryan is how our fans picked the same players for guys drawn fouls. There are three players that have each been voted for ten times. Since I said that out on the text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four, we mentioned a couple of them. You mentioned Tyler Eulis right, I mentioned John Wall. Would you like to know the other ones that have gotten tim votes. 00:14:28 Speaker 7: Yes, let's hear it. 00:14:29 Speaker 3: Isaiah quickly, excuse me a manual quickly? Huh yeah, I can see that. Yep, Isaiah the line too. Isaiah Briscoe. 00:14:38 Speaker 7: Yeah, I wouldn't have thought of him. 00:14:40 Speaker 3: That I would have because because he wasn't a good free throw shooter, drew and so he would go to the line and I would have drive me nuts because he did draw a lot of fouls. 00:14:48 Speaker 5: Historically bad free throw shooter for guard guard for most of them. 00:14:52 Speaker 3: But he drew a lot of fouls. I'd be interested to go back and look. I bet you he was one of the leading his last year, one of the getting the most free throws. And then this is a really good one because Ryan he got a ton was Andrew Harrison. 00:15:07 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, see I didn't think about him, but now you say that, yeah he did. 00:15:11 Speaker 3: He could draw a lot of him because he would come he would throw himself into a guy and then basically throw it up and make the referee make a decision. 00:15:20 Speaker 7: And he was a decent free throw shooter. 00:15:22 Speaker 6: He was. 00:15:23 Speaker 5: I can back those up with some numbers up what is for the most free throws per season. A lot of them are big men, obviously, but Wall and Eulis are eight and nine, and Andrew Harrison is fifteen. That's all time. Kenny Walker's number one, dan Issel, Julius Randall. But okay, guards, those three are up there. 00:15:39 Speaker 3: So look at that. Just from the collective mind Shannon of BBN, we got three of the top fifteen. 00:15:44 Speaker 2: It's pretty good, all right? 00:15:46 Speaker 3: Who else are guards? Because Julius Randam would have certainly been on there besides Wall, Euless and Andrew Harrison. Who else are guards in any air well? Meeks is number two all time behind Kenny Walker. But is that per year in his career? 00:16:00 Speaker 5: Season? One season top seasons? Okay, it was his last season outside of the Fox is seventeenth, deeron Fox, Monk twenty second, Quickly twenty third, Shaye twenty five. So yeah, we're doing pretty good job. 00:16:13 Speaker 3: Heck, how about a fan and how about the BBN's collective intelligence there. 00:16:19 Speaker 2: Trying to think of any other ones on the So. 00:16:21 Speaker 3: The only one that wasn't that people mentioned, that wasn't on the list was what quickly? Everybody else was on there? 00:16:27 Speaker 5: No, Quickly twenty third Briscoe brisco see Brisco. 00:16:31 Speaker 3: Okay, maybe it's just all the misses. 00:16:32 Speaker 5: They didn't want to include a missy, so the percentage. 00:16:34 Speaker 3: Was too bad. All the missus made it feel like it was Archie. 00:16:38 Speaker 5: Goodwin coming in. 00:16:39 Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good. That would have been a good win because he would just throw, run up and throw it at the basket. 00:16:45 Speaker 5: And Ramel is another guard at twenty seven. That's about it for the guards in the top thirty. 00:16:50 Speaker 3: Nice job people, the UK fans. Let's go to read, go ahead, read. 00:16:56 Speaker 9: Hey, good morning, how are you guys good? Just a little nuance on the referee referee event So NFL has a rule that refs can only two games of a team and a year, one at home and one away. 00:17:15 Speaker 8: Interesting, I think that UK UK fans like me question why it is that Doug Shalls always gets to sign to a key game number one number two This year has reached epidemic proportions, Matt because the referees. 00:17:36 Speaker 9: This is the first year I've seen where UK has had multiple games where the opposing team shoots more free throws. 00:17:44 Speaker 3: At That's true, that's true, but some of that is that we shoot so many third clicks, like we're not a physical team. I appreciate the call. I mean, that's a fair point, except we don't draw fouls because we don't drive to the basket a lot of our guys. So like, I'm not prize. Let me quickly tell you how referees are assigned, Ryan, because people don't realize this. Every referee is a conference referee. Which is that right? Ryan? That they work for a conference, but they can work for multiple conferences, and most of them, I think they're not allowed to work for more than like four, But Ryan, they work for four conferences and they usually get two or three big ones and then a small one and they can do up to five or six games a week because there's no one nationally scheduling their schedule, so they make their own schedule. And Ryan, some of them want to work every single night of the week. 00:18:41 Speaker 7: Yeah. 00:18:41 Speaker 4: I saw our Brent Hampton from here in Kentucky had the North I mean he had the Saint John's Connecticut game on Friday night and then Saturday he had an SEC game with Caliperi. So yeah, they do bounce around conferences. 00:18:52 Speaker 3: They go from conference to conference and often night tonight, and there are guys who will do five or six a week and with that travel, Shannon, there's no way you can be one hundred percent. 00:19:05 Speaker 2: No, No, you would think they would limit how many games you can do. 00:19:08 Speaker 3: I mean, but you get paid by the game, so they're incentive because college basketball season is only like four months, is to do as many as they can, right. 00:19:15 Speaker 2: And if I were a college rough, I would probably do the same thing. 00:19:17 Speaker 3: Probably do the same thing. So there has to be a point since since they make their schedule, so the SEC will assign say, you know, Doug Shows or Oldlesley the games, but then he can go do other games for other conferences and he will, and so when you get him for a big game, you don't know you know what is conditioning? I mean, imagine if you were traveling six nights a week in a different arena, running up and down the court, you'd be exhausted. These are not exactly like specimen athletes. 00:19:50 Speaker 5: A lot of times they're just getting right in a rental car and driving through the night to get to the next stop. 00:19:54 Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of like a professional wrestler. 00:19:56 Speaker 3: No, they are, like, that's exactly right. They are exactly like a professionals. Let's go to I got a minute, right, Shanon let's go. 00:20:04 Speaker 2: To like three minutes. 00:20:06 Speaker 3: Oh yeah, this is this clock, right, we go to to I'm getting the ESPN and the I'm sorry, I'm getting those clocks confused. Let's go to George. George, espnn's at twenty six, we end at twenty nine. 00:20:15 Speaker 2: That's right, all right, go ahead, George, Good morning. 00:20:19 Speaker 3: Guess y'all do it good. 00:20:22 Speaker 10: So I think everyone is overthinking what happened on Saturday and kind of where we are. We are missing our two best players and we have been and our third best player had his worst game of the year. Some other guys didn't play great. I mean, when you really look at the roster that Pope has put on the floor, I mean we're being held together with chicken wire and bubblegum, and we went in and almost knocked off Pama. We've knocked off other teams, you know, in similar condition to where we are. I think we need to relax and see where we are a couple of weeks as we head into the tournament. 00:21:01 Speaker 6: If we're still. 00:21:02 Speaker 10: Banged up, we got a problem. 00:21:04 Speaker 3: I think that's perfect health. 00:21:05 Speaker 10: This is a dangerous team. 00:21:07 Speaker 3: I think that's appreciate the call. That is a perfect If you want to make a really positive statement, which I like. Ryan, that's the perfect case to make. 00:21:15 Speaker 4: Yeah, and they've got the games the backup He's argument when they won at Tennessee. You know a few people gave him shorthanded to win that game and they did. 00:21:22 Speaker 9: So. 00:21:23 Speaker 4: Yeah, this team, they get one per percent healthy, they can definitely make some damage in March. 00:21:27 Speaker 3: I think I said in the postgame show, Drew, if this team is fully healthy, we're under seeded, and if we're with the roster we have right now, we're probably overseeded. Do you agree with that? Yeah, definitely. 00:21:43 Speaker 5: And I know Pope himself has said I'm not using injury's excuse, but me, where I sit on my couch, I'm giving them an excuse. I mean, you can't lose players that critical to your lineups and still expect to win a bunch of ball games. I saw that Evan Maya Kawa, he always tweets like the best lineups in basketball, Yes we did. Kentucky's best pairings like two guys in at the same time, and of the top ten, Kentucky can only play like one or two of them right now because they all involve Butler or Robinson. You know just all of Kentucky's best options they can't go to. Yeah, and then you're right, oh Way has two points. So you tell me you lose your three best perimeter players and they if I told you back in December, Shannon, we're gonna play at Alabama and Robinson, Butler, and Oway are going to combine for two points. 00:22:29 Speaker 2: No way you can blown out. 00:22:31 Speaker 3: You would think you'd lose by fifty. 00:22:32 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:22:33 Speaker 3: Right, I mean so there is a sense I think where as the caller makes that you actually do uh need to be to be a little calm about. I am calmabat we get our whole roster back. I like our chances in the tournament. If we don't, then Ryan, I'm booking one week. That's just kind of how it is, right, So. 00:22:53 Speaker 4: I think they get a normal game from oh Way. They could even have won that game Saturday. 00:22:58 Speaker 3: Eight nine two eight oh twenty two eighty. We're gonna take a break, be right back, Ksrry TJ Smith personal injury attorney called TJ. 00:23:06 Speaker 5: He'll make them. 00:23:07 Speaker 2: Pay No Kentucky Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:14 Speaker 3: Yes, it's all over now, Shannon, And it sure is Monday that's right. Hey, by nine eighth twenty two eighty seven, there's apparently a website Shannon called Philly ref Like Philly Like Philadelphia, and it will tell you everyone who's ever reffed any game in college basketball. 00:23:34 Speaker 2: That's pretty interesting. Does it break down like the games they've done? 00:23:36 Speaker 7: Yeah? 00:23:37 Speaker 3: Like like it says like, if you wanted to go see who just did Clemson s, you know, Clemson NC State in nineteen ninety six, you would know. 00:23:46 Speaker 2: So I wonder if we could see, like which games to Kentucky lose them? 00:23:50 Speaker 3: Somebody does that for Kentucky refs too. I don't know who it is, but can you imagine Drew creating that website. I'm gonna be the guy that keeps track of who officiates every game in college basketball. 00:24:03 Speaker 5: I'm actually wondering if that's my dad, because about every night I'll get a text by Roger Ayers is Illinois night? You know he's watching the refs more than anyone. I think I get a lot. 00:24:12 Speaker 3: Of your dad. Did the website? 00:24:15 Speaker 5: Any given night you can text Mike Franklin and say, yeah, where's Don Daley and. 00:24:20 Speaker 3: He knows Roger Ayres. By the way, somebody just sent me, Ryan worked thirty one straight nights in November in December. 00:24:28 Speaker 4: Come on, well, I guess you know you gotta make your money during basketball season, because I mean, there's no. 00:24:34 Speaker 3: Way those dudes can be at a hundred. We can't even play Amri thirty minutes in a game. 00:24:40 Speaker 2: That With that, I'm getting tired. 00:24:41 Speaker 3: Can we talk about that for a minute? Yes, please play the best players more. Amari Williams was great in that game. Why is Amary Williams only playing twenty five minutes? Why he only had one foul? Why? Why? Why? Why? 00:25:00 Speaker 4: When Kentucky went up, Alabama went on two runs and both runs is when we're when Amar was on the bench both of them? 00:25:07 Speaker 3: Why these like we're at the end of the year. Are we gonna see this in the tournament? And I don't mean this to be rude, but I'm am I getting fifteen minutes of Brandon Garrison in every game in the tournament? Like, why can't we play Amari more minutes? 00:25:22 Speaker 10: Why? 00:25:22 Speaker 7: I agree? 00:25:23 Speaker 5: It seems to be a pope thing because if you go back to all his other teams, whether it be BYU Utah State, he doesn't have guys that average more than thirty minutes a game. Most line dudes don't get like twenty seven to twenty eight or the leader, So I, pardon me, wants to tell Amari to get off the bench and get in there. I wonder if he's conditioned. But also Pope just historically doesn't play guys thirty minutes, Shanton. 00:25:43 Speaker 3: When we're in the NCAA tournament, let's say we're fully healthy. I want Butler, all right, So how many total minutes are in the game? Five players? Forty minutes, two hundred minutes? Righte, Butler, Robinson, Oway, Bray, Carr, Williams. I want one hundred and eighty plus minutes from those six guys. 00:26:04 Speaker 2: And you should be getting that. I mean at this point in the season. You know Cali Peri used to do all the time when he would get down to seven guys and those were the yeah, seven guys would play. At this point, you gotta maybe start tightening down the roster a little bit and who you play instead of just letting everybody get minutes. 00:26:18 Speaker 3: When we won the national championship, Drew, we played six guys, six guys. We had Tige Lamb, Gil, Chris Jones, Miller, Davis that was it Eloyd Vargas would play a couple minutes, wheelchair a couple minutes, but we basically played six guys. 00:26:38 Speaker 5: Yeah, they need Mari especially. I know he's having to do more than anyone right now because he's kind of running the offense and he is the defense. But the team's average minutes per game, he's sixth this season, come on, sixth minutes. Foul Trouble's one thing that he only had one foul. Yeah, he's averaging twenty two minutes a game. Yeah, part of that, there are games where he's had foul trouble and didn't get to play much. But overall, that guy's still needs be playing a lot more. 00:27:00 Speaker 7: You think Pope was just trying to keep him fresh in case into the game. 00:27:04 Speaker 3: I said this on the first game show that one of the announcers that went to a game, I won't say which one, but it wasn't Tom Hart, one of the announcers that went to a game, told me that he went to Pope, talked to Pope about minutes, and Pope has this thing he believes called maximum efficiency, and he thinks that you need to play your players the amount of minutes that gives them the most maximum efficiency when they're in and that he has a set amount that he thinks each player can play to reach their maximum efficiency. I believe all that, Shannon, Yeah, but I don't care. I would rather have eighty percent of Mari. That's Brandon Garrison on most occasions. 00:27:45 Speaker 2: We don't think that he could go out there and still put up some numbers post yes, his maximum efficiency. 00:27:51 Speaker 3: I mean, I do believe, Nancy. 00:27:53 Speaker 11: Go ahead and Nancy, oh, okay, thanks for taking my call. So I was it was awful what they did to a Mari when they're yell in USA. 00:28:03 Speaker 12: USA. 00:28:04 Speaker 11: Now, yes, Alabama doesn't have any exchange you know, foreign stances. 00:28:07 Speaker 7: They do. 00:28:08 Speaker 3: They have a niger They have a Nigerian player. 00:28:10 Speaker 11: Okay, we got. 00:28:11 Speaker 3: Guarding to Mario. 00:28:13 Speaker 11: Oh okay, So so you know, I mean that's awful. I mean, and you know there's a lot of students that go to Alabama that are different countries. I just thought it was awful and I hope a Mariy can get past that, which I'm sure he can. But it was bad. And as far as social media goes, people that get on there and complain about Pope and complain about the team we are out three starting guards. Come on, yeah it is. 00:28:37 Speaker 3: I think I agree with you. I appreciate the call to your first point, Ran, I didn't like the USA chance. I mean, as I said on the post game show, I wouldn't have gone up there and tried to fight people. But at the same time, it's one thing to like boo It's one thing when you're playing for Team USA. When you're playing for Team USA and you go play against for in France, you're gonna get booed. And when France comes and plays in the USA, they're gonna get booted. But this is not a nationalism game. This is Kentucky versus Alabama. And I don't like the USA chant. Do you have a right to do it? Of course you do. But there's a lot of things you have a right to do that you just didn't shouldn't do because it's rude. I mean, later on that night, Arizona fans chanted blanking Mormon at the BYU fans. Is that right? No? 00:29:29 Speaker 7: No, not at all? 00:29:30 Speaker 3: No. And you could go, who was just kid lighting up my aunt snowflake? But just don't be rude. You can yell at him, make a joke about tea and crumpets or the queen. But the USA chant at someone from a foreign country is just a you know what it is, you know why you're doing it. I feel I would feel the same way if I was in Mexico and they're like channing you know, well, I guess wait a minute, well and they were channing Mexico at a player from America, Like you just don't need to do it, Ryan, So I mean, am I gonna go tell these college kids they're the worst people? Know? But I wish schools wouldn't do that. And if we did it, and I've been told we have done that in the past, although I don't remember it, we shouldn't do it either. 00:30:21 Speaker 7: Like we said that. 00:30:22 Speaker 4: The thing that puzzled me was that their starting center was from Nigeria. They you know, they they did not know where he was from. They're trying to, you know, get that at Ami, but I don't think they forgot they have a foreign exchange student on their team. 00:30:35 Speaker 3: Also, right, Drew, what do you what do you think on that? 00:30:39 Speaker 10: Uh? 00:30:39 Speaker 5: That and uh Terry Ogles be chasing Mark Pope had me seeing red at home. 00:30:44 Speaker 3: I love America. 00:30:45 Speaker 5: I chant USA, but for some reason, I was so angry at them doing that. Part of it was also the stupidity that the guy literally with his body against Amara Williams is not from America, that's on their team. But yeah, that it got under my skin pretty bad hole. 00:30:58 Speaker 3: And then but the Alabama fans, it's all me tweet about it, shann and they all start tweeting, you don't love amr co man, And here's my v viuew and I appreciate the call of Nancy. Here's my view on that. You want to know somebody's rich, they don't have to tell you they're rich. Right, If you want to know somebody's good looking, do they have to tell you they're good looking? Do they have to be like, look, how good looking at you? No, rich people don't tell you. They're The people who tell you they're rich probably aren't rich. The people who tell you they're good looking probably aren't good looking. If you can love America without like wearing US thongs. 00:31:40 Speaker 2: Outside, we gotta get you a US song. 00:31:42 Speaker 3: Now, you know, when I was a kid, I think I've said this before. My grandfather thought, Shannon, you shouldn't wear your you shouldn't wear a flag. Ever, that it was disrespectful. Yes, that was like like the fact that that's now become normal. He would be like, you know, he served in World War two and he was like people people who wear a flag, like even the ones who think they're like he thought that was the most disrespectful thing you could do. He thought the flag was supposed to be revered, not worn as a piece of clothing. 00:32:09 Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, I don't think I own a piece of American flag clothing. Do you do you have like a. 00:32:14 Speaker 3: I mean I do have a onesie that we got from uhh, yeah, what was that? What was that thing we used to do adds for That was a different thing we did add that was a different one. That was a different one. It was like something Elves, wasn't it. 00:32:33 Speaker 2: Like, Yes, yeah, you have an American flag tipsy. 00:32:39 Speaker 3: They sent me a bunch of them and one of them was an American flag onesie. 00:32:43 Speaker 13: Dude, I still wear it. You gotta put that on. I wear it sometimes what I'm feeling kind of tournament ladies like it. You know, No, I'm not wearing it. 00:32:54 Speaker 3: Hey, BBN. You know, I hate this song, which is because of it. Yeah, it has. I hated it before, like don't start. I hated it before it became like the the Maga anthem. It has nothing to do with that. It's the fact that they played this every day at my kit school and it and it's and people don't realize how long of a song it is. 00:33:50 Speaker 2: It's like three minutes. 00:33:52 Speaker 3: Yeah, well we had an extended version. It had like a musical andros and when you were a kid, three minutes after the Pledge of Allegiance and after the national anthems, a lot of time to be stand it. 00:34:02 Speaker 2: Yeah, you know it's a long song. 00:34:06 Speaker 3: It is a long song. I would say it really only three minutes. 00:34:09 Speaker 2: It was like ten minutes. 00:34:11 Speaker 3: I'll say. When I met him at the Grand Old Opera, he couldn't have been nicer. And I said to him, I had to listen to your song every day when I was a kid, and he was like really, so, I guess Middlesbrough was the only school that did that. 00:34:23 Speaker 2: Get them those royalties every time they played there. 00:34:26 Speaker 3: I wonder who it was at Middlesborough that made everybody that started, because apparently I don't think other schools did that. 00:34:33 Speaker 2: We didn't do it. 00:34:34 Speaker 7: We didn't do it. 00:34:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, we had to say. 00:34:36 Speaker 2: The pledge of allegiance. 00:34:37 Speaker 3: Yeah, pledge of allegiance. I'm fine with Nashville. I just don't know that we need to do this and then and then only in America. Like there just comes a point. We get it. We're all patriotic, we get it. 00:34:47 Speaker 2: It's not like y'all spent like an hour. 00:34:48 Speaker 3: Yeah, we did it. It was a hits. It was the hits. And every time they'd had a new one. Darryl Worley, what was his song about nine to eleven? 00:34:56 Speaker 2: Oh, I have forgotten. 00:34:58 Speaker 3: I bet they played that. Pana gone, Uh, what did you think grew about the new bloods. The blue Bloods scratched out new Bloods on T shirt one. 00:35:11 Speaker 5: It's good to know Kentucky still everyone's super bowld. But you know it's I don't like the idea of giving Alabama that credit of being a new blood blue blood, but their record in the SEC lately, it's hard hard to talk about about him. I mean, they have owned the conference until this year with Auburn really hit running away with it. 00:35:28 Speaker 3: I didn't it didn't bother. I actually thought that was kind of clever. 00:35:32 Speaker 5: Yeah, they've kind of earned it. 00:35:33 Speaker 3: They earned it. 00:35:33 Speaker 4: That's what I'm gonna say, both Auburn and Alabama. I think I've both kind of earned that title. 00:35:37 Speaker 13: Now. 00:35:37 Speaker 3: Yeah, one person writes Matt instead of chatting USA, they should have chanted beans for breakfast at Amari. Do British people eat beans for breakfast? 00:35:46 Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I've talked to him mar he can't find an English breakfast in town. I told him one kind of beans. 00:35:51 Speaker 3: Is like pinto. I mean, I've spent a lot of time in England. 00:35:54 Speaker 7: I don't know what. 00:35:55 Speaker 3: I don't know that. What are they? 00:35:58 Speaker 5: Yeah, they're similar to like brown beans, little tomato, little egg, So they eat like toast so it's like Pento beans, is that right? I don't remember than Pento beans. I don't know exactly what they would be. They have like their uh their version of bacon. 00:36:16 Speaker 3: Now that's like, hey, am, it's like Canadians like, yeah, so I've eaten that. They eat English muffins quite a bit. But I don't think I've ever seen beans for breakfast. 00:36:27 Speaker 2: Here's the answer. According to AI, they say baked beans, usually baked beans, usually with navy beans and cooked and tomato sauce. I've never seen that beans on toast. 00:36:39 Speaker 5: When I'm in New York. You know, I'm known to frequent Jack Dempsey's. That usually brings me back to life. I bet our UK alums and up in New York, which is. 00:36:48 Speaker 3: Crazy, but I had I had no idea real quick scuttle. But Ryan, I think Butler will be full practicing this week. The goal is to play him in the Auburn game. I think LSU game at the latest for senior night. Uh, Jackson Robinson would like to play him for Senior Night. Not sure that's gonna happen. Go was the SEC tournament? 00:37:13 Speaker 4: Well, I'm taking it, I mean, you know, at least there you know, trajectory to get back on the court at least by the end of the season on both of them. 00:37:19 Speaker 7: So I like that. 00:37:20 Speaker 3: So I think we're probably absent some change today. Gonna see Oklahoma without both guys, So cross your fingers. We need it. They got a big win, they did, They got a big win Saturday. If they beat us, they're probably in the tournament. So like that'll be a huge game for them. 00:37:38 Speaker 7: Derek say, homecoming for Oway. 00:37:41 Speaker 3: Yeah, go ahead, Derek, Derek. 00:37:46 Speaker 12: Hey, this is Derek, longtime listener, first time caller. 00:37:49 Speaker 3: Who are. 00:37:51 Speaker 8: Can you hear me? 00:37:53 Speaker 3: Yes? 00:37:53 Speaker 6: Hey? Thanks? 00:37:55 Speaker 12: Uh so, uh, you know you got me to call in because earlier you're mentioning something about spaghetti and uh, you know, my favorite kind of spaghetti is baked spaghetti. I had a buddy once who it's good told me that he had some really good baked spaghetti on a buffet at a gentleman's club. 00:38:12 Speaker 3: All right, I appreciate you. Canon bakes spaghetti. I tell you who used to make really good baked spaghetti. Was the old spaghetti factory in Louisville. 00:38:21 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, is. 00:38:22 Speaker 3: That place still open? 00:38:23 Speaker 2: Is it's right down a couple of blocks from here. 00:38:25 Speaker 3: It's still open after all these years. Yeah, you know that was for a long time, like the only place to eat in downtown Louisville when I was a kid, it was the Old Spaghetti Factor. 00:38:35 Speaker 2: You know who also has really good baked spaghetti. 00:38:37 Speaker 3: Who's that for? 00:38:38 Speaker 2: Zoli's Ah, I mean you get it right to the man, the breadsticks and it's perfect. 00:38:43 Speaker 3: I haven't been to Old Spaghetti Fact. Well you let's go sometime. You want to go to Old Spaghetti Factory? Said, when's last time you've been to Old Spaghetti Factor high school prom? Yeah? Exactly, That's what I'm saying. Ryan. Now that Hooters is declared bankruptcy, next meeting is an Old Spaghetti fact. 00:39:00 Speaker 7: All right, call the meeting. We'll be there now. 00:39:02 Speaker 3: See, I kind of want Old Spaghetti Factors. 00:39:04 Speaker 7: I didn't know it's still. 00:39:06 Speaker 3: I'm shocked it's still open. 00:39:07 Speaker 2: To get ice cream after it's over to people who goes somebody's going, I mean it's it's still. 00:39:13 Speaker 3: I haven't heard anyone talk about Old Spaghetti Factory in fifteen years. 00:39:17 Speaker 2: I guess they don't need advertising. They're just you know, staple. 00:39:21 Speaker 13: I kind of want it, Like right now, well you can leave, we can do the rest a minute. 00:39:25 Speaker 3: I'm in Louisville. 00:39:26 Speaker 2: I could go twice. It is two blocks from here. 00:39:29 Speaker 3: Once you want to go get lunch there on me. You want to get lunch in old spaghetti factory. 00:39:34 Speaker 2: Now I think I got other things going on. 00:39:35 Speaker 3: You know what? Say and Lindon go ahead. 00:39:40 Speaker 6: Hey, before I ask my question, you brought up advertising. What advertisement? Do you look back and think, why the hell did I ever do that? 00:39:47 Speaker 3: You mean, what did I endorse? 00:39:50 Speaker 6: Yes? 00:39:51 Speaker 2: Oh, well the answer is nothing, because we would never endorse anything that we don't believe it. 00:39:56 Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, so I've turned down. There's some people on this show that one or say anything right, and Shannon as well. I turned down over half the endorsements because I'm like, if I if it's not real, I won't do it. And I don't really do alcohol unless there's a specific I try not to do alcohol. So the short answer is I can't think of one, because usually I've used the product. We did a thing once for one of those like you can get a job site things or whatever, and I knew it wouldn't work, but they paid a lot of money, so we did it. So that's the closest one. But like, I don't endorse things unless because I just it's I don't know, I don't want to feel bad about It's like Richard Petty. Richard Petty wouldn't put a beer company on his car, and for some reason that always stuck with me. 00:40:42 Speaker 6: But go ahead, so hey on on the referee, I think you would agree the SEC officials let stuff go this year. Yeah, that potentially is gonna hurt if hurt teams in the SEC. If we get a tight whistle in the tournament. Yeah, but how do you think that hurts or benefits us? 00:41:02 Speaker 3: We need the game to be called Honestly, we probably need the game to be called loose because we we don't draw fouls, right, so we don't because we don't draw fouls, Like a tight whistle doesn't help us if we're shooting jump shots. You know, I appreciate the call. So for us, I think games where there's a lot of fouls drew probably hurt us because we we don't draw fouls as well no matter what. So I almost wish we had a loose whistle so that maybe we can foul them a little more. 00:41:40 Speaker 5: And we don't have anyone that does the mark seiars, throw your head back or extend your right arm while throwing your body to the left, when you're the one creating contact and still drawing a foul. And even like I noticed in the Alabama game Andrew Carr, even with a good position in the post, he scored on it, but he turned around and did a little fade away. 00:41:57 Speaker 3: It's just a. 00:41:58 Speaker 5: Different style of basketball. You're not gonna get the win as much as someone that's trying to go straight up into a guy's arms and draw that fell. 00:42:03 Speaker 3: Totally agree. Why won't you What do you have to do for lunch instead of going to the old spaghetti thing? 00:42:08 Speaker 2: Oh, I gotta put the podcast, and I got two afternoon shows, and I got all kinds of stuff going on. 00:42:13 Speaker 3: So you're just not interested in having old spaghetti factory. 00:42:17 Speaker 2: If you want to go Fizzoli's, that's a different story. 00:42:20 Speaker 3: You don't want to go to the factory. All right, we'll take a break, be right back. Sa
