00:01:08
Speaker 1: And there's never a time we come to Louisville that we don't outdraw any crowd that could possibly be for a Louisville show, and I always appreciate that. So we're out here. It's the Kentucky Brandon used to be out here, didn't it.

00:01:21
Speaker 2: Yes, it used to be. I'm right about that. Yeah, No, yes, it was, it was, Yes, it.

00:01:29
Speaker 4: Was something else.

00:01:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was the thing before. Yes, Okay, so it was the thing.

00:01:34
Speaker 1: Yes, there was a store like this out here, and now it's back on forty six hundred Shelbyville Road. So people were saying yes, and then some people know different name, but it was it was out here, and now you got Here's what I like, Drew. Even though there's Kentucky and Louisville gear, they're trying to make it half and half. But I see more Kentucky gear, probably because you sell more of it even in Louisville. I'm just gonna be real about it. If we're looking at it.

00:02:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, they put it up at the kind of the front like sale items, hoping someone will buy it when they're checking out.

00:02:04
Speaker 1: It's like clearance sale over there on the on the Louisville stuff.

00:02:08
Speaker 2: I like that.

00:02:08
Speaker 5: What is this the third show in Louisville in a month. Yes, we were frequently, that's right.

00:02:13
Speaker 2: Now listen, all of you folks at home, this is it.

00:02:17
Speaker 1: This is for people in the store, but this is also for you at home until the end of the day.

00:02:21
Speaker 2: Is that right? No one knows. Let's just say till the end of the day.

00:02:26
Speaker 1: Kentucky Branded dot Com you can get buy one, get one free T shirts and sweatshirts, so for the start of the season, and if you're here in the store, it's the same way. Buy one, get one free Kentucky shirts KSR shirts at Kentucky Branded dot Com.

00:02:41
Speaker 2: Feels like a pretty good deal.

00:02:42
Speaker 6: Shit, a great deal.

00:02:43
Speaker 7: So come on out here and like I said, go to Kentucky Branded dot Com. We got Penn Station coming out later on for lunch.

00:02:49
Speaker 1: Penn Station's bringing lunch and they're bringing Taylor Bell soft serve ice cream for everybody here at ten thirty. That's the famous Rupperina ice cream. They're gonna bring the Rupperina ice cream. Two Louisville so if you're in Louisville, you're always like, what are they talking about with the Rupperene ice cream? You will get to taste it here at ten thirty. They're now serving it at Croger Field. That's why, that's why they're burn.

00:03:10
Speaker 7: I need to taste it. I need to give it a second opinion. You know we've talked about it before. You've talked about it, well you have to now.

00:03:17
Speaker 2: No, I've always said it was good. I said I didn't understand the line.

00:03:20
Speaker 1: But today you will probably see why the line is here because all these folks are gonna be here.

00:03:26
Speaker 2: Now. We're having problems.

00:03:27
Speaker 1: Shockingly, there's technical difficulties with iHeart with with KSR. The Lexington affiliate is screwing up. But you can hear it on seven ninety. Obviously, if you're listening in Lexton, you're not even hearing me say that. But in theory you could tell people that they can go to seven ninety hopefully lap will be fixed. There's a lot going on, So let's Kentucky play South Carolina tomorrow. But I do think we should probably start with the biggest news, which was the Jasper Johnson commitment to Kentucky yester. So I want to look break this down at two parts. One is the actual commitment, and then two is the ceremony in which I went to my first ceremony since Derek willis at Bullet East.

00:04:13
Speaker 2: We'll start with the commitment.

00:04:15
Speaker 1: Massive gift for Kentucky by some rankings as high as twelfth in the country, top twenty five, pretty much everywhere. Uh I went back in terms of players from the state of Kentucky. He might be the highest drew since what Dan Hops Yeah, I mean you're looking, Yeah, you're I mean maybe D'Angelo Russell, although he didn't play high schoolasketball here, but neither is a jasper now, so pribly since D'Angelo Russell is the last time they've had a player ranked this high.

00:04:44
Speaker 2: I mean, he's ranked higher than Reed Shepherd was to get the kid.

00:04:48
Speaker 1: First of all, it's cool to have a guy like that in They They have now had two consensus top thirty to forty kids in state of Kentucky, first time that's probably happened since the eighties, and they keep them bow in the state. I think both of them would not have played here if it was Cal. I don't think Cal would have ended up recruiting either of them hard, and then I think there's a I thought there was a decent chance they wouldn't get any of them five months ago.

00:05:14
Speaker 2: Big time for Mark Pope to keep them both instead.

00:05:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, cal Or, one of the assistants offered after Johnson sophomore year. But they weren't really as aggressive as Alabama had been. Alabama was all over him for a long time. That's why they were considered a leader up until the final stretch. But Mark Pope met with him a few weeks before the decision. Date had some help from some boosters who stepped up, as we've alluded to a few times, and really Kentucky went from running second, maybe even third, to put a little you know, crossing the finish line at the last second, getting first place. So there was a late push that got it done and as you said, would have happened without the change and the coach. And then what they did in the last month or two.

00:05:52
Speaker 1: I think you could look at there's a famous play from When the Heat where the three really good players where Bosh gets rebound, dribbles to half court, throws it to uh what is it? Dwayne Wade, who then takes it back and gives it to Lebron, who dunks it. Let's I would reenact that and say Vince Merrow got the rebound and dribbled to half court, threw it ahead to Joe Kraft, who then bounced it back to Mark Pope for the slam dunk. I think that's probably how it ended up happening. That video, yeah, I mean literally, if somebody wants to make the video of Vince Vince's Chris Bosh, Joe Kraft is Dwayne Wade, and then Mark Pope is Lebron, I think that would be the best way to understand how that happened.

00:06:38
Speaker 3: I think it's worth repeating telling this story because Kentucky had a lot of ground to make up with both Malachi and Jasper Johnson, and without that happening, it wasn't gonna happen.

00:06:48
Speaker 1: So let's now that it's over, let's talk about it. I don't know what happened with Malachi. I was in Europe, so I didn't really I didn't get to follow that, but Alabama was probably good to get Jasper john I mean, I think that's probably I think that's probably the case, and Kentucky I think.

00:07:06
Speaker 2: Stepped up there in Aisle offer.

00:07:08
Speaker 1: But I think the bridge that got put that got Pope from man.

00:07:14
Speaker 2: I like that guy.

00:07:15
Speaker 1: But Alabama has been going a long time to I'm going to Kentucky. Is Vince Merrill one evening had the conversation I think with the with them. It wasn't long after that you heard me say that I thought they were gonna Kentucky had a good shot. That's why I believe he should be head of recruiting for all sports at some point, Shannon, because I mean, and the thing is he does that in other things. But the reason was, and Ryan, you could probably go up there was I don't want to say animosity, but there there's always been some tension with UK. Wouldn't you agree with that family? After a while, you could probably be moreing on it than I can.

00:07:56
Speaker 3: I mean, we can talk about it. Alvis Johnson, the way he was kind of how that ended his career ended at Kentucky. It did leave some hard feelings between the university and the Johnson family, a very prominent family not just in Herricksburg but in this state of Kentucky.

00:08:08
Speaker 1: And then when KL didn't recruit the guy after the whole country was offering. I think that only made it worse. So Mark, Pope was coming in with some headwinds, right head wins of they really liked the Alabama staff. Alabama had been on him early. North Carolina had offered an in state Kentucky kid before Kentucky had, So I think Pope came in running.

00:08:31
Speaker 2: A distinct third.

00:08:33
Speaker 1: Pope, to his credit, got up there to where he was kind of third but coming down the backstretch, and then I think, you know, Vince was able to get with the family. They loved Vince Marrow, and then Mark was able to seal the deal and Drew you end up with what you got.

00:08:49
Speaker 5: Is that any coincidence of Vince's news today with announced the raised for Vince Marrow twenty four hours after jessperg I didn't see that.

00:08:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, Vince, I gotta raised this morning.

00:08:58
Speaker 2: I did not see that. Is that Ryan? He's making one point three million? Wow?

00:09:04
Speaker 4: I love the timing of it.

00:09:06
Speaker 5: They say before yesterday, but you know, announcing it the day after he helped out.

00:09:10
Speaker 2: I did not one point three million, my man.

00:09:13
Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I'm gonna say he deserves it worth every penny. He's the highest paid tight end coach in the country for a reason.

00:09:24
Speaker 3: End.

00:09:25
Speaker 1: Now that's gotta be I bet he's one of the five highest paid position coaches in the country. Would be maybe, and he's probably top twenty coordinator salaries.

00:09:37
Speaker 2: Wouldn't you think?

00:09:39
Speaker 6: I'm with you? Just make him the head of recruiting for every sport it content.

00:09:42
Speaker 1: I didn't know that. Congrats events. He deserves it, all right, So so that happens. Now we got to talk about for a second that ceremony. Loved it because I sat there with Drew. Like I said, I haven't been to a ceremony since twenty eleven.

00:10:00
Speaker 2: And it was really I.

00:10:01
Speaker 1: Mean, it was cool. They had a DJ. When have you ever heard of there being a DJ int a commitment ceremony? And there was a guy back in the back on the ones and twos, right, Shannon, He's out there, music is rocking. They bring the students in. Then somebody reminded me he didn't even go to school there. Entire student body, the entire student body came. He used to go to school there. He doesn't go to school there. Now, as I watched it, first of all, let me be clear, I think it's positive.

00:10:30
Speaker 2: Like I'm not.

00:10:31
Speaker 1: Gonna be the guy going this is all the world is ending, its negative, get your money, Like I'm good with it. Some of these kids you never know, Like think about the kids we've had over the years that thought they were gonna make a lot of money and didn't like scal of BCA, etc. And then they got a whole life ahead of them and the thing that was their biggest talent if it doesn't work out.

00:10:51
Speaker 2: So I'm for it.

00:10:53
Speaker 1: But I will say, as I watched that ceremony, I thought to myself, this is the new era.

00:11:00
Speaker 2: Okay, this is the new era.

00:11:02
Speaker 1: Like everybody's gonna have to change their mindset on what things are because this is the new air. My man had a backdrop that said Morgan and Morgan and Paul miller Ford. I was watching ww RAW Monday night. They were sponsored by Morgan and Morgan. So was Jasper Johnson, Paul miller Ford. He rips his coat off. I thought it'd be a Kentucky jersey. It was a Morgan and Morgan t.

00:11:27
Speaker 6: Shirt Moreran and Morgan.

00:11:29
Speaker 8: Morgan And right before he got it, he gets on the phone and goes hello, and he's calling the Denado's Pizza which.

00:11:40
Speaker 2: Got delivered, and they come and deliver him with Donado's pizza.

00:11:44
Speaker 1: It was like he was a NASCAR driver. I mean it was it was like he was I'd like to think I'd like to think FedEx and.

00:11:51
Speaker 2: For all their support.

00:11:53
Speaker 1: I sat there and thought to myself, when with the DJ and with the crowd and everybody had T shirts with his face on it, and there were there were like who's who of UK basketball people everywhere.

00:12:06
Speaker 2: I thought, Drew.

00:12:08
Speaker 1: This to me is an example of when John Wall committed and I said, UK basketball is different. This is an example of college sports are different now and people and I don't think it's for the worst. Some people do. I don't, but it is different.

00:12:27
Speaker 2: Oh yeah.

00:12:27
Speaker 5: I mean he was kind of like Ricky Bobby up there thinking his sponsors and Tahadega Knights, and I would have done the exact same thing.

00:12:33
Speaker 4: Uh.

00:12:34
Speaker 5: At one point, somebody even reminds him, hey, huns up your jacket, show that Morgan and Morgan T shirt, knowing they had all these obligations to fulfill. But hey, if people are gonna make you that offer, I would take it too. That has to be the first commitment made with a pizza box I don't maybe there's another.

00:12:47
Speaker 1: I thought he was gonna open it and there was gonna be like a UK pizza, and then I was gonna go, all right, that's all.

00:12:53
Speaker 7: Just to be clear, if I call it Donado's, They're gonna deliver a pizza, not a jersey right in that box, Like, that's not how they.

00:12:58
Speaker 2: They gave it. No, it was a pizza. They brought him an actual pizza.

00:13:00
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:13:00
Speaker 5: I saw the guy walk in with two pizzas and the Donado's shirt. He was standing just out of the screen or where they were filming, and I actually thought the dude was trying to deliver pizzas and interrupt the ceremony, Like, someone get this guy out of here before he interrupts this.

00:13:13
Speaker 1: It's also interesting to see Ryan. You know we've talked over the years. Okay, Arkansas has Tyson Foods, right, and Memphis has FedEx. Well, it looks like Kentucky's corporate sponsor is gonna be Morgan and Morgan.

00:13:26
Speaker 3: It looks like, yeah, even for football, we see a lot of Morgan and Morgan billboards up and a lot of advertisement at Kroger Field. I know a lot of people when they saw that yesterday, they probably thought, man, that's a lot. But like you said, I think that's just cracking the door open to seeing what.

00:13:40
Speaker 2: The This is the future. Yep, this is the future.

00:13:43
Speaker 1: And I think I will remember that ceremony as my official Oh yeah, this is a different era kind of thing. But for the basketball, great gift for Kentucky. They're gonna have two of the top forty guys, both in state, both with families that have had long traditions in state. And as somebody came up to me yesterday and said, Matt, when's the last time Kentucky's had four guys from the state of Kentucky on a roster and would play unforgettables, Probably the last time. And there's a very good chance that next year Kentucky will have four guys playing on.

00:14:20
Speaker 2: The roster from Kentucky.

00:14:22
Speaker 1: And I think that probably makes most of the state very happy, from all parts of Kentucky. Two, just think about that, You're gonna have a roster next year where there's a player from Eastern Kentucky, there's a player from Western Kentucky, there's a player from the Greater Lexington metro area, and there's a player or two players from the Greater Lexington metro area. Got to get one from Louisville two, but it is. It is going to be a very Commonwealth roster next year for the Wildcats. We'll take a break and be right back. We are here at Kentucky Branded to see is Kentucky Sports Radio. Where the back it is Kentucky Sports Radio. By the way, we are here at Kentucky brand It in Louisville.

00:15:01
Speaker 2: When you walk in, you can sign up. We're giving away.

00:15:04
Speaker 1: We're giving away some some gift cards and a lot more. I didn't realize. We're giving away two tickets to South Carolina game.

00:15:11
Speaker 6: Plus a parking pass and a parking pas.

00:15:13
Speaker 3: Oh that's that's the goal there.

00:15:15
Speaker 1: So two tickets to UK South Carolina and a parking pass will be given away at the end of this show. So make sure I guess you scan something and then you put your name in and then they like tickle you or something and then.

00:15:27
Speaker 7: You'll tickle you get a QR code and you sign tickling.

00:15:32
Speaker 1: Nor if you're asking, did you see Shannon and I put up uh a TikTok video yesterday?

00:15:38
Speaker 2: Oh?

00:15:39
Speaker 6: Really? Your first one? Yeah, second one?

00:15:41
Speaker 1: It was just me asking for help with TikTok. But nevertheless I did. The video got like six thousand views already, so I feel like I'm also I'm ready.

00:15:50
Speaker 2: I'm a TikTok star.

00:15:51
Speaker 6: Now you are a TikTok official.

00:15:52
Speaker 7: It's only a matter of time before you're going to be like this big influencer on TikTok, no doubt getting endorsements and you're dancing.

00:15:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you to all the people. By the way.

00:16:01
Speaker 1: So after the show yesterday, Ryan, I decided I put a little video up and I was like, if you have a student ID, come to ks Bar, I will I will pay thirty percent of your bill and I just wanted to see if it would work.

00:16:12
Speaker 2: Well, let me tell you, students will take free stuff.

00:16:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, they came and filled the place up, and the bill was a little more than I thought it would be.

00:16:19
Speaker 2: But you know what, students, thank you very much and we.

00:16:22
Speaker 1: Had a great atmosphere. And what a game last night? Yeah, how about that? How many of you stayed up and watched that Chiefs Ravens game last night? Comes down the final play, he makes a catch and he's toe is on the line and he loses drew. What a first game to start the NFL season. No kidding, I mean it was already just the teams they gave us for the first games. Incredible. Loved having the NFL back.

00:16:42
Speaker 5: And for it to end like that, I mean, that's about as close as you can be to being on the line. If they had even called it the other way, I would have said, all right, I'm fine with it, because it seemed he was.

00:16:51
Speaker 2: Right on it.

00:16:52
Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna make fun of the card since we're in Louisville. But I do have to say this. He's not the best passer, but Lamar is the best athletic quarterback I have ever seen in my life. Like Lamar. I've said this many times on this show. Mark Stoops said to me once privately. Remember Mark Stoops coached the U when it was the U he coached at Florida State when they won a national championship, and Mark Stoops said to me, Lamar is the best player I've.

00:17:20
Speaker 2: Ever seen in college football. Wow. And you can see it, man, Ryan.

00:17:25
Speaker 1: He he missed a couple easy throws, but he did some things not anyone can do, including on the final play.

00:17:31
Speaker 3: He's so dynamic, like every time he touches the ball. He got a chance to do something special, and that's why that last play even he kind of created it, moving around and then found the guy in the end.

00:17:40
Speaker 1: He's I wish he didn't play at Louisville, because I do think he's pretty amazing. All Right, Kentucky in South Carolina tomorrow. Tucky has stabilized as a ten point favorite most important game of the year. To me, I think we're gonna win, but I also think we gotta win. It's gonna be the game that I'm pacing throughout right. This is the game I get in the shower. I didn't apply for credentials cause I ain't gonna go. I don't want to be in that building. I want to be able to turn it off and walk upstairs if I need to. I'm nervous about it, Drew, should I be nervous about sec game?

00:18:18
Speaker 5: You should always be a little nervous. I'm actually nervous about how confident I am. I'm probably too confident.

00:18:23
Speaker 2: Okay.

00:18:23
Speaker 5: I think we're heading straight for an ask kicking, and I'm looking forward to it now means giving yeah, okay, yeah, giving them the ass kicking. No, I would not look forward to Kentucky losing to South Carolina. Just their offense has a long way to go, and I don't think playing Kentucky's defense in Lexton for your first true road game is a great situation for sellers. So if Kentucky's offense can get in the low mid twenties, I think it's gonna.

00:18:46
Speaker 2: Be a low twenties wins.

00:18:48
Speaker 4: I just barring turnovers.

00:18:50
Speaker 5: They lost last year at South Carolina three maybe even four turnovers, turnovers with a story as long as they don't hand it to South Carolina protect the ball. I think lining up South Carolina's got a long way to go to be as good as Kentucky.

00:19:03
Speaker 1: Bryan, you're a vibe guy. You're around the vibes of the program. You feel what is going on. You feel good about tomorrow.

00:19:10
Speaker 3: I do feel good about tomorrow. Then Drew kind of hit it man. Last year three turnovers only scored fourteen points. I think these guys feel like they've got a lot to prove and a lot to make up for the especially the last two years playing this team. And maybe I'm like Drew, I feel a little more overconfident, maybe because we saw South Carolina right before the Kentucky game Saturday, and they looked awful.

00:19:29
Speaker 2: But it.

00:19:31
Speaker 3: For Kentucky to be a ten point favorite, I think that's even low.

00:19:34
Speaker 4: You think it's low. Yeah, here's the attitude.

00:19:37
Speaker 7: Wow, I like it. He's got that confidence. By the way, how's your jaw feeling? A year later it was South Carolina.

00:19:43
Speaker 1: Wait a minute, this is the game to get get him back. You can get him back.

00:19:47
Speaker 3: I'm gonna be standing outside Crogerfield just looking for the guy that popped me.

00:19:52
Speaker 4: Do you remember what it looks like if I never saw him?

00:19:54
Speaker 2: I saw. Yeah. There's two things.

00:19:56
Speaker 1: First of all, you're still dealing with verdigo, so I don't know that this is the time. I'm for you to go chasing people around and fighting them.

00:20:05
Speaker 3: You don't remember who popped you never saw him. I never saw the guy, so yeah, I have no idea who it was. But if he's there, I'm going after him. Somebody points me out, I'm on him.

00:20:13
Speaker 5: Could this vertigo be a lingering symptom that's coming up because he feels South Tho.

00:20:18
Speaker 4: Connected to that head injury?

00:20:20
Speaker 1: I think you should just walk around and hit every South Carolina fan into you.

00:20:24
Speaker 3: I'm okay with that. Go up and start popping people.

00:20:27
Speaker 6: No, we don't want to do that. I'm not advocating that.

00:20:30
Speaker 1: If you look at their schedule, I think it is very hard to see them making a ball if they don't win this game. If you look at our schedule, we can still make a ball without beating them, but it doesn't look as optimistic as it did before. I think, without question, if you want Kentucky to have a year where we go into that game like at Texas and there's still something kind of cool to play for, or we go into the game at Tennessee and we're hyped even though we always and we usually get let down, you gotta win this one because I mean, chances are high we're gonna lose next week, So you gotta win this one.

00:21:12
Speaker 2: Plus the college game day piece.

00:21:15
Speaker 1: We haven't had college game Day since two thousand and seven, right, we haven't been on the national stage like that since two thousand and seven. We haven't played a game of national significance that the whole world is watching except Georgia a few years ago and it was down there when they had game Day. You can get that drew if you win tonight. I don't know that we'll get game day. I think we would, but we don't know for sure. But we will be primetime ABC two to zero with people saying watch out, Kentucky's here, gotta win the BOMK.

00:21:47
Speaker 9: Yeah.

00:21:48
Speaker 5: You hate to put so much pressure on one game, especially in week two, but I think it's that important.

00:21:52
Speaker 4: This is always a swing game.

00:21:54
Speaker 5: At the end of every season, both South Carolina and Kentucky could kind of look like, did we win that head to head and that kind of puts you on the path to have a decent season. You lose this whin a game you should you want to win every year, it really hurts you overall.

00:22:05
Speaker 1: Last year we played Missouri, We're up fourteen to nothing, we're driving with the chance to put them away. It flips. Missouri ends up winning nine games and wins a ten game. That game changed it. Tomorrow's that game for us.

00:22:21
Speaker 2: It is.

00:22:21
Speaker 1: We gotta do it. We didn't do it last year, we gotta do it this year. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:22:31
Speaker 2: Run. I'm back Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:22:35
Speaker 1: Here we go. Come on, First of all, let's try this again. We're in Louisville, there's a game tomorrow. Welcome back, It's Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:22:41
Speaker 2: Here we go.

00:22:42
Speaker 1: This does feel like the like because because I was gone, this feels like the.

00:22:47
Speaker 2: First Okay, we're ready the season rolling here.

00:22:50
Speaker 1: I felt like that way Saturday at the bar before the game, but I feel like it today. Remember we opened the bar tomorrow at ten. We're opening early so that people can get in and get a seat, have the pregame show, so it's not so crowded right at eleven. So we're opening at ten. Our pregame show tomorrow is at eleven thirty am. For those of you listening, Shuttle starts running tomorrow at one pm. A five nine two to eight zero twenty two eighty seven. One person writes Matt, this is on the text machine. Why do you think game Days interested in coming into Lexington? I would understand if Kentucky is competitive against Georgia, but I'm confused to why they would come. Well, one of the ways I think they're why they're considering it is because UK's been told they're considering. They tell three or four schools in advance, we might come to your place.

00:23:36
Speaker 2: How would it look?

00:23:37
Speaker 1: And UK got that call last week But then secondly, Drew, look at the other games.

00:23:43
Speaker 2: I mean the other game.

00:23:44
Speaker 1: The only other game that's really got a Marky potential is Arkansas at Wisconsin.

00:23:51
Speaker 2: We need to see what Wisconsin does this week.

00:23:54
Speaker 1: But Arkansas Wisconsin's really the only other game that you would look at and say, yeah, Now, I could say the excuse me, I said, Arkansas Alabama at Wisconsin. I could see them wanting to do Alabama Wisconsin. Maybe that's what they do, But that game's at noon and is not on ESPN, so they would be leading directly into a game on a competitor network. I think it would make a lot which is what they're doing this week with Michigan Texas. I think it makes a lot more sense to come to Lexington and preview a game that's going to be on your networks later that night.

00:24:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, they've been to Wisconsin several times. I know Kentucky's not really a national football power, but you know it's a fan base they know will show up, they'll be excited about it. And I think the real key is what you said about They don't want to just have you from ten to twelve and then say all right, go to Fox watch that game. They're gonna want to, you know, keep it on their network and it's a good chance to boost the SEC now that they have the new contract with that moving forward.

00:24:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, this would be the first you know, the first total SEC game game, the.

00:24:57
Speaker 4: First SEC game is this first place of the conference.

00:24:59
Speaker 1: This is the first SEC game, the first game with the injury reports required. I mean, there's a lot of first ryde for this game.

00:25:07
Speaker 3: We talked about all summer how important this game was. But if we can just dream for a minute, if you win this game this weekend and you are looking at game day coming in for Georgia, I mean, it's not crazy that Kentucky could not win that game against Georgia, and I think would want to be there.

00:25:20
Speaker 7: As long as they can a bit competitive, you know, keep it a game in the second half.

00:25:23
Speaker 1: I mean, I mean the last couple of games, let's be let's beat South Carolina before we talking about beat it, beating the team that's only lost to Georgia in the last three years or four years. Do you realize it's only lost to one team and that's Alabama. Wow, that's the only team that's beating Georgia in four seasons. So just keep that in mind before we.

00:25:45
Speaker 5: See how a little bit they would put stock into it. But if there was a great turnout for sec Nation and they're like, woll if they showed up for.

00:25:54
Speaker 2: Sec Nation, we know you can go.

00:25:59
Speaker 4: It's all a sec Nation hater.

00:26:01
Speaker 1: By the way, we had a we have a person who came today who gave us freeze dried nerd gummy clusters. I've had probably hundreds of you since I expressed my affinity for it.

00:26:12
Speaker 2: Say you like these as well? If you would sell these, I would buy them. They're really good.

00:26:17
Speaker 1: It's the only bad part of a gummy cluster is having the gummy in your mouth.

00:26:21
Speaker 2: This is freeze dried. Did you like it?

00:26:23
Speaker 3: See, I'm not even a candy guy. You had me try one. I was surprised. It's so good and it's like air. It's like caught candy, almost like.

00:26:30
Speaker 2: Free d Yeah. Well, we got a whole bag of freeze dried candy over here, So thank you very much. Who's up next? Kentucky Joe is up there? Oh well, cook, why did you start?

00:26:40
Speaker 1: I mean, like for a song, Rick, you said there are five callers you lead with Kentucky Joe.

00:26:46
Speaker 4: Well, he's the one that's been on the longest.

00:26:48
Speaker 1: I understand, but that's always the case. There's some music, all right, Joe, go ahead, Well.

00:26:54
Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be a song in a minute.

00:26:57
Speaker 2: No maybe probably not. Huh go ahead, Hey yeah, all.

00:27:04
Speaker 9: The saying the thing about our UK football team. I haven't been on. I'm be sick. I wish I was there today. I'd say ten and two and uh, I think mister Dion Walker is gonna have a big game today.

00:27:19
Speaker 1: Hight, I'll give you twenty seconds of I'll give you twenty seconds of a song. Yeah, but you got you gotta go, you can, I might, I might just cut you off.

00:27:28
Speaker 6: Just ahead, get to the chorus.

00:27:30
Speaker 2: Get to the chorus. Yeah, all right, all right, here, here we go.

00:27:33
Speaker 9: The it's called Dion Walker the pork chop Man.

00:27:37
Speaker 2: Wamen, Dion Walker the pork chop Man.

00:27:40
Speaker 9: Yes, I know it's seconds.

00:27:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.

00:27:45
Speaker 9: Huh I get I get more than twenty seconds.

00:27:47
Speaker 2: No, just saying you're already wasting the time.

00:27:51
Speaker 9: All right, all right, here you go.

00:27:53
Speaker 10: It goes like that.

00:27:53
Speaker 9: Of course, hit the porch on man. It can is the port chopping man to be the best team can it to clean.

00:28:06
Speaker 11: It's playing well ed a Kentucky for training table, so even full dolls lecco last, but take the qube be down there.

00:28:18
Speaker 10: Walker is truly the.

00:28:20
Speaker 9: Pork chop man.

00:28:21
Speaker 11: He trys to be the best he can.

00:28:28
Speaker 2: All right, thank you very much, Joe.

00:28:31
Speaker 6: That's a piece.

00:28:32
Speaker 2: I appreciate the call. Let's chop man. Ask your question?

00:28:35
Speaker 1: Is there a reason again I was gone all summer? Is there any connection between Dean Walker and pork chops?

00:28:41
Speaker 6: I think he's just assuming that he likes to eat a lot of pork chops.

00:28:44
Speaker 1: So he's just calling him the pork chop Yeah, let me say something, Dean Walker sixty six three point thirty. I ain't calling him the pork chop man unless he wants to be called the port chop Man.

00:28:54
Speaker 5: As someone who listens to a lot of Kentucky, Joe, I've noticed, I think everyone's noticed everything is He's just something man. Everyone's a man in every song. And there's also Will Stein Man. There's a similar.

00:29:05
Speaker 2: Rhythm shave in as a musician to a lot of his songs.

00:29:08
Speaker 7: Yeah, we just need somebody to remix it maybe for us, and I think that could possibly be a hit the right producer.

00:29:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, I had.

00:29:15
Speaker 1: Two different people write me in Saturday and say, Kentucky Joe was just walking around the game.

00:29:19
Speaker 2: It's just going up to strangers and singing.

00:29:21
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, it's kind of his movie.

00:29:23
Speaker 2: He does that.

00:29:24
Speaker 3: Do you know who I Am? That's when he said he wished he could be here. We're like, oh, no, that's good, that's good, You're fine.

00:29:29
Speaker 2: Call in. Who's up next?

00:29:31
Speaker 3: Trav is up next?

00:29:33
Speaker 2: Trap? How are you? Trav?

00:29:35
Speaker 12: I'm doing pretty good? Fellas so good. Y'all got some Taylor Bells there? He all should come down to Lawrenceburg where Tailor Bell's got the restaurant where you get the ice cream, the Hamburger.

00:29:44
Speaker 1: Okay, well we don't need an ad. We know we don't need an ad. Go ahead, they're coming, so we're good.

00:29:49
Speaker 2: What else he's ben?

00:29:51
Speaker 12: Also play your respection. There's a man's name who should be hung in the raptors reprehensively, Bill Coyley.

00:29:58
Speaker 2: All right, well it is he is, Hug The Bill Kit's name is in the rafters.

00:30:05
Speaker 5: He's referencing the unpopular opinion we had that guy said it shouldn't be up there, which was an outrageous take.

00:30:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, but I mean it was unpopular opinion day, but Bill Kiteley certainly should be should be there.

00:30:16
Speaker 3: I mean when you talk about a lot of people talking about the Mount Rushmore, Kentucky, they put him on there and he was an equipment manager because he deserves to be up there.

00:30:24
Speaker 1: South Carolina's defensive line, Drew is their strength. Our offensive line has I don't know, maybe a weakness, maybe not. We still have to see how do you feel like that's gonna work. And do you think if do you think brought vandergriff if he gets pressure, we'll be able to handle it.

00:30:41
Speaker 2: Did a pretty good.

00:30:42
Speaker 1: Job against Southern Myss that actually gave some pressure throughout the game because Southern Missus strength was a defensive line as well.

00:30:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's really not even their whole line.

00:30:50
Speaker 5: It's that freshman end who's playing like he should already be in the NFL, even though he doesn't even look the party, looks skinny, but he was still bulldozing through guys last week. And he's going up against Minci, who probably had the worst game on the offensive line. So that's a matchup South Carolina will one to win, have any chance. I'm still confident in Kentucky. I think it all just goes with Kentucky's defense. If Kentucky could get some early points and make South Carolina have to throw because they're gonna want to run that thing, they get behind and have to grow, it's it's lights out for South Carolina.

00:31:18
Speaker 1: You remember, South Carolina's playing a freshman quarterback. Freshman quarterback with goggles, So you that's very important. You don't win's all right? Name me the last quarterback you can remember that was great with goggles.

00:31:32
Speaker 6: I'm trying to think of any quarterback with goggles exactly.

00:31:37
Speaker 1: They get weeded out even before they get to college. I will tell you when I showed up at high school or in middle school football and basketball tryouts, they didn't see my goggles and say that's a quarterback right there, right, They said, would you like to be a manager?

00:31:51
Speaker 2: So I but you're but Drew's right.

00:31:55
Speaker 1: Ryan, if we can get ahead and make them throw, that kid's gonna make mistakes.

00:32:00
Speaker 2: If you do that, he just is.

00:32:02
Speaker 3: We saw him make mistakes to get their first game, you know, against Old Dominion. He was kind of struggle a little bit when we were.

00:32:06
Speaker 1: The same thing though they were having to play fast and he and he struggled.

00:32:10
Speaker 3: So, you know, we talked about that, this freshman defension lineman they've got. I think Kentucky's gonna They're gonna put Josh Kattis there beside Minci and try to almost double team this guy. I mean, well, I don't know, maybe, yeah, maybe Caddis was gonna play.

00:32:24
Speaker 1: So if he's going that far, looks it right, right, doesn't even like the rest of the world doesn't even know Josh Caattis is playing, and you know where he's lining up in the formation.

00:32:32
Speaker 3: You'd say, maybe, don't be surprised if you see Caddis there, you know, kind of clip that guy.

00:32:37
Speaker 1: Even with Verdigo, that's right, he gets scooped. Stop overpaying for sunglasses. You can no reason to buy expensive sunglasses and lift to lose or break them. Probably the best athlete of all time that wre goggles is Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I would say he, then I would go Eric Dickerson was a really good running back with goggles. Chris Sabo, their former Red his baseball player was really good with goggles, and who else hors grant my goat here? A lot of people don't know.

00:34:06
Speaker 2: If you don't know how to do it's fine.

00:34:08
Speaker 1: A lot of people don't know this about Drew old school folks though, But I found Drew not from KSR. Drew was a student at UK riding a blog that was named Horace Grant Halftime Report, The Horse a.

00:34:21
Speaker 2: Grand Halftime Report. Why did you name it?

00:34:24
Speaker 5: That NBA jam the video game it had like crappy graphics. It was Horace Grant dunking no matter what teams you played with, and it just I don't know. I think i'd been playing it when we made the sight and there was.

00:34:35
Speaker 1: So I hired him from the Horace Grant Halftime Report to KSR, I.

00:34:39
Speaker 4: Have his Bulls jersey in my off so that has to.

00:34:42
Speaker 1: Make the list. So that's a pretty good force of anybody else you can think of.

00:34:46
Speaker 4: Walker Kenny, Yeah, how much?

00:34:49
Speaker 2: Did can he wear it his whole career? Just when he got his eye hurt?

00:34:51
Speaker 3: I only did War at Kentucky that one whole season, right.

00:34:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, pretty way back? Keem Olijuan War for a long time.

00:34:57
Speaker 6: What about James Worthy? I think wore them all.

00:35:01
Speaker 1: About James h Kurt Ramas Kirk Rambus, Yeah, Larry Blurd, Robbie a Vila, who's playing at Saint Louis this year.

00:35:13
Speaker 6: Can tell us from uh them.

00:35:20
Speaker 4: Kirk Rambus just wear like actual black.

00:35:22
Speaker 1: K just wore glasses like regularly, like they weren't even tied. He just wore like regular glasses on the field. Well, if you have anybody else, let me know. Don Walker had him for a little bit, Yes he did. I want to just a quick thing. I'm not if you don't have anything to do.

00:35:38
Speaker 2: Tonight.

00:35:40
Speaker 1: Tonight is a there's a at the borough. Is that is a group playing that I saw play ten years ago. And it's a guy. H Keller Williams is the name. He's like a he's like a bluegrass musician. But here's what you would like r They it's a bluegrass band and and they get together and they only play They get together twice a year and they only play Tom Petty songs and they call it Petty Grass. And they take Tom Petty songs and they play them like with a bluegrass style. And they're doing one of their twice a year appearances tonight in Lexington at the Burrow. Uh. I'm going to dinner with my parents for my birthday, but then after I'm gonna try to go by and see some of it. Highly recommend if you don't have anything to do tonight. It's it's called Keller Williams. It's called Petty Grass.

00:36:24
Speaker 3: I remember you talking about this, like you said tens.

00:36:26
Speaker 1: I went and saw Tyler in like Cumberland, Maryland, eleven years ago and they opened for him and he it was awesome.

00:36:34
Speaker 3: I remember you talking about how wonderful you thought it was. So it's kind of cool.

00:36:37
Speaker 2: So coming. They only do it.

00:36:38
Speaker 1: It's like a group of musicians they get together twice a year and they come together to do this twice a year, and they're doing it tonight in Lexington at the Burrel.

00:36:46
Speaker 2: So just wanted to throw that out there.

00:36:47
Speaker 1: Who's up next, Aaron? Go ahead, Aaron, hey man, it was great, Thank you very much. I appreciate a lot of people been asking me since I got back, and I had an amazing experience. I highly recommend if you ever get a chance to go to any of those places you ought to do it.

00:37:05
Speaker 2: But go ahead.

00:37:06
Speaker 9: Well I'm glad you're back.

00:37:07
Speaker 2: Okay. So I have a story for you.

00:37:09
Speaker 9: It's a funny one.

00:37:11
Speaker 13: My friend at his work, a customer came in and was like, hey, I have two free tickets to the Georgia Kentucky football game front row. You can have them, yeah, And he was like, okay, I'll take them. So he texted our friend group group chat and he was like, hey, I have two tickets.

00:37:31
Speaker 9: I'm not gonna go. Who wants them?

00:37:33
Speaker 13: So our buddy Preston was like, oh, heycky, I want them.

00:37:38
Speaker 9: Give them to me and I'll take Ryan, Me and Ronald go.

00:37:41
Speaker 2: And so.

00:37:43
Speaker 13: Preston got all excited and thought, ry, how many people got these tickets?

00:37:46
Speaker 2: Where are we going with it?

00:37:49
Speaker 13: So he texted back ten minutes later and was like, just kidding, I'm taking my girlfriend and.

00:37:54
Speaker 2: Ryan who.

00:37:57
Speaker 9: The guy who got the tickets from his work, Dylan.

00:38:01
Speaker 13: Dylan got the tickets, Dylan.

00:38:08
Speaker 1: Gave me to Preston, Ryan, who then was gonna take his girlfriend.

00:38:14
Speaker 4: Sounds like a table to the restaurant.

00:38:16
Speaker 2: All go together if you wanted.

00:38:18
Speaker 1: I just saved you a textan I'm at the bar. Well listen, Preston, Dylan, Ryan, Sammy, Frankie. I hope they all have an amazing time at the game, and I appreciate the call.

00:38:30
Speaker 5: There you go, I guess he's said he invited his friends. They claimed them and he was like, never mind, I'm taking the girlfriend. Oh kind of breaking bro code is what I got out of it there.

00:38:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, well that would have been a good logic problem at my dork camp last week, trying to figure out who ended up with the who ended up with the tickets?

00:38:44
Speaker 2: Go ahead? Who's next? Babo was up next? Dabbo? How are you Dabbo?

00:38:51
Speaker 10: No, it's Babo. Don't don't put that stink on.

00:38:55
Speaker 1: Okay, I like it. You're like, don't call me Dabbo. I have a proper name like Babo.

00:39:02
Speaker 10: Yes, that's what my grandkids call me. The reason I'm calling that my daughter is in labor. She is listening to the show at the hospital right now with his my son in lawd Josh, and my wife. And we got a problem here and I need some help.

00:39:19

00:39:48
Speaker 2: So you want to know what our grandfather's names were?

00:39:52
Speaker 10: Yes, they're looking for a unique name.

00:39:54
Speaker 2: Interesting.

00:39:55

00:40:14
Speaker 5: I had a A Thomas and when you're gonna like a Merle, a Merle.

00:40:19
Speaker 4: Not many Merles around anymore.

00:40:22
Speaker 1: By the way, I was almost named If you want the name that I was almost named Hampton was I was almost Hampton. I don't think my career would have been as good if I was, Like, it's Hampton Jones here at Kentucky. That sports Randy, Yeah, that is that's old miss Fraternity sports Radio.

00:40:44
Speaker 6: Posey wow Cosby and a Courtney.

00:40:48
Speaker 1: We had a lot of like borderline female names and our grandfather group.

00:40:53
Speaker 2: Okay, so those are your choices.

00:40:56
Speaker 1: Posey Merle, Elishah Courtney Hampton Cosby Kenny, Uh, you got you pick one of those, and I don't see how it could go wrong.

00:41:07
Speaker 10: Thank you, Thank you, guys.

00:41:09
Speaker 2: Appreciate call. I don't think he's gonna get one of those.

00:41:11
Speaker 7: I don't even think that's what he was asking. I think he was asking, like what we called our grandparents.

00:41:15
Speaker 1: Oh he was okay, Well, then I called my grandparents.

00:41:19
Speaker 2: Uh, my grandfather, Papal.

00:41:21
