Because Lane Kiffin's already at LSU, it always feels like, man Alabama opens up, that would have been great for Lane Kiffin if Alabama opened up. I wonder if Dabo Sweeny would say, you know what, maybe you don't care about me I'll go to Alabama because I know what that landscape is all about. But you know, you see that arch Manning is coming back, and I think that's really good. Leonora's sellers at South Carolina's coming back. I think that that makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 3: It's easy for me to say when I'm watching these kids, because it always feels like you could use a little more seasoning there. And scouts want to have more than thirty starts. Ideally, they'd like to have more than thirty five starts. That's their sweet spot of Okay, maybe around thirty, but I'd like to have a little bit more than that. And now you're seeing these quarterbacks transferring. You know, you got Aidan Chiles leaving Michigan State, Sam Levitt moving on from Arizona State, DJ Lagway he's leaving Florida, Dylan Ryola, he's saying goodbye to Nebraska. And we've seen what's happened with these last four Heisman winners. They're all transfers, So you might go a couple of years. Fernando Mendoza took Cow to two Bowl games, I believe, and then he transferred to Indiana. He was already a good quarterback, and you could have one of these quarterbacks who's transferred who might end up winning a Heisman Trophy, because that seems to be almost the blueprint now of I'm going to play someplace and then I'm going to go someplace. And Jaden Daniels did this at LSU, and you're going to get a big pay raise.

Speaker 5: Yampauli arts Manning, though, is such an anomaly because in this down year for a quarterback draft, based off his reputation, he would be a top ten pick easily. And he doesn't need the money, like he's one of the few quarterbacks in college football history that the nil wouldn't keep up with the family money.

Speaker 5: Yes, he's only got he's got less than fifteen.

Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's got to and even then he's going to give you close to thirty starts when it's all said and done. He didn't play against great high school competition, but he does have the athleticism, he does have that name, and you're on a big stage and look you start out the season against Ohio State, and that's a defense that's probably going to have maybe five starters in the first round, four or five starters. And he didn't play well. He looked overwhelmed. But we saw him at the end of the year. That's why I'm looking forward to seeing him play in the bowl game. I just the more he plays, the more it becomes a parent that there are a lot of great traits there. But still I would not be taking him early if I had a if I had a top ten draft pick, I would not be taking him until I saw a little bit more. And look, maybe you pass up a generational talent, but I gotta see more. I think that's the problem teams. You get into this and you go, uh yeah, Zach Wilson, Yeah, let's take him. How many starts I don't know, fourteen, that's where it's dangerous, you know, Trey Lance, I don't know. I look really good that one year. I need to see a little bit more, yeah, Paulin.

Speaker 5: And then a guy like Bo Nicks sixty one starts in college and not just not incarnate word Auburn and Oregon.

Speaker 3: Yes, and Jayden Daniels had over fifty starts. That's what you need to see, because I need to see the good and the bad and the ugly. If you have one magical year at North Dakota State, ah Man, I gotta see more than that. If you had one great year at North Carolina, I gotta see more than that. But these guys love potential. The potential gets you fired. That's why I would always be looking at taking a quarterback in the transfer portal if I was a head coach now, I would always look at somebody. Give me somebody who's twenty one, maybe twenty two. Spend a couple of years, and now I get more of a finished product. Plug and play. You know, next thing you know, you've got a magical season going on. And that's what's happened in college football, all right, Robert in Arizona, Hey, Robert, what's on your mind?

And that's when Hasselbeck was out there. He was the quarterback for Seattle, and I was in the end zone and he walked over. I was with my son, who's a Packers fan, and he walks over and he goes, oh, so much for objective reporting or something like that. I go, no, he's the Packer fan.

But I would probably like, you don't want to go to the Jets. I mean, he seems like a really nice guy. Like there's certain guys where you go, you know, he seems like a nice guy. Don't do that to him, go to the Jets. That's I still think Kyler Murray did the Jets. The risk and the reward I think would be fascinating.

I believe the post June first cut for next year, if they were to go down that road, the dead money would be like sixty seven million dollars, where his cap hit if he's on the team is fifty five million dollars. So you know, the question will be have you seen enough of him? Are you willing to start over? And if you start over, do you start over with a draft pick or do you start over with a veteran And are you going to be much better with a veteran or do you just kind of retool everything And you're sitting there at six and eight, you'll probably finish just a little under five hundred.

So I Mike mc daniel may may have saved, may have saved his job, which seems weird because we thought he was gone, but he may still be around.

Speaker 13: They ran it pretty well last night, gain well and warn basically split carries I think thirteen and twelve, so that was good. Defensively, they haven't been what they normally have been. And as far as Aaron, Aaron was incredibly effective last night twenty three or twenty seven, but most of those passes were to gain well, which were short passes.

Speaker 13: He certainly did a couple of times for sure, but I don't think now. The one thing that's in their favor is you don't have a dominant Kansas City team in the playoffs. You don't have a just below Kansas City dominant Buffalo Bills team. This year, Buffalo will get in to the playoffs, But is it the dominant Buffalo team, the team that's been giving up a lot of run rushing yards on defense?

Speaker 13: I think if you step back and look at it, if you get past the losing in the first round of the playoffs, having just good enough record to not pick late in the first round or not pick early in the first round, I would say this, what what are you going to get out there that's better? What are you going to get that's going to make them win two more playoffs? I remember you, and you remember too, Dan Marty Schottenheimer went to a couple of AC title games in Cleveland, didn't get him past the point and got fired.

Speaker 13: I mean, it's not like they've they've found somebody to ride past that. So I think we kind of knee jerk, though this knee jerk has been for a couple of years with Mike Tomlin. But my thought is, when you settle down and you think about it, you're like, who are we going to get that's better? Are we going to get a retread that we know or a young, new, first time head coach that maybe injects something new into the team.

Speaker 3: But is this sort of like Penn State though, like it's a cautionary tale of Yes, they waited over fifty days for his replay. They were quick to get rid of him that decision, But then you didn't exactly have the treasure trove of candidates that you thought you would. Now, the Steelers would be attractive because of the stability there. You know n State Matt Hamble, and while he's really good, he doesn't have a good record against you know, top ten opponents either.

Speaker 13: No, I mean all the I mean there was really the one bell of the ball choice this year and that was Lane Kiffin, right uh some araw who Somemraw went to Florida was certainly up there as well.

Speaker 13: In your opinion, boil Boy, it seems like it seems like he's had a really good experience with Pittsburgh. But again, if they don't go that far this year, what's the expectation that they're gonna go far next year? Eventually, whether it's this year or next year, they have to start over a quarterback yet again, and they haven't found their guy to take them anywhere since Ben Roethlisberger. So and it's normally a team that's built on defense and the run game anyway, but they still haven't been able to find a quarterback.

Speaker 13: I would say yes, But how many top quarterbacks are available now? We know the quarterback position gets over valued. So you have Fernando Mendoza, you have Dante More from Oregon, who, by the way, can go.

Speaker 13: You have Ty Simpson who can go back to college as well, And most of the mock drafts I've seen there have been three quarterbacks, taking Ty Simpson taken later in the first round. So while the top of the draft you're going to have a number of teams that need a quarterback, as a quarterback worth a number is there a third quarterback out there in college that's worth a number four, number five pick. That's going to be the question. We thought this was going to be an unbelievable class, but it turns out it maybe isn't and a Dante More can go back to school, even though in Oregon he did lose his offensive coordinator.

Speaker 13: You could literally stand on that turf, not play it down in the game, stand on the turf and your back would be just so hurt, so sore after the game. It was by far the worst turf. I mean, they're playing on a cushion of the gods today compared to what we played on. But I get their thoughts that if you're getting a lot of non contact, I don't care what kind of artificial turf it is. Is that bad for the player and is it enough for the owners? Because we already know the owners have come out with our own report that kind of disputes the players report the NFLPA report of non contact injuries. So it doesn't sound like the owners want to go change it anytime soon.

Speaker 3: How about we bring the owners out and somebody tackles them and let them land on the field.

Speaker 13: The owners couldn't last that long out on the field. That would be a good test for them, though they'd be unconscious after taking one hit. We'd have to use the smelling salts, which are now illegal, to wake them up.

Speaker 3: Yeah, it's shortsighted, but it's all about money and if you don't want to spend the money. And this is where it feels like the commissioner should say, let's protect these players. If we're going to add an eighteenth game, shouldn't that be in there that let's do all we can do to protect them from themselves with you know, the blue tant and concussions and all of that. But the playing surface, I mean, go back to an RG three. Got hurt, Mike, Yeah, my backyard looks better than that.
