00:00:32
Speaker 3: It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live Friday, February the seventh at Kentucky Branded out next to Fayette Mall. For what we've been coming out here for ten years. Probably one of the best day of deals I think they've ever had. You can give a shout on the Clarks Puppet Shop full line eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, a Vision Auto Glass text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four in this edition sponsored by a TJ.

00:00:58
Speaker 2: Smith Office. You call TJ. He'll make them pa.

00:01:00
Speaker 3: Hey, guys, We've been doing shows at Kentucky Branded since it first opened. I think we were at maybe their grand opening. I don't think they've ever done what they're doing here today. They have buy one, get one free t shirts and hoodies, so start with that. So I mean, there's UK Gear, there's KSR Gear, there's Player Gear. Buy one, get one free, then twenty percent off the entire store. So like, I can't do the math, but you do the buy one, get one free in the twenty percent off, that's like ninety three percent off, I believe by the numbers. It's an unbelievable deal all day here at their other stores, and then online for those of you that live elsewhere Kentucky Branded dot com. And then we're do we just handing out gift cards the entire time. We just gave one for twenty five, but we're giving one for like two hundred at the end. Drew, I've never seen the deals, and I you know, I'm not a big shopper, but I just gave a ton of clothes away to charity and I think I'm gonna replace them with UK clothes from here.

00:01:56
Speaker 4: Every time we come here, I and many others end up leaving with a big bag full of stuff because of the deals are so good and even though we've had this nil era while you look up and I'm still getting used to like Travis Perry.

00:02:08
Speaker 5: You don't know a T shirt, But it's good for those players that they get to have that. And they have a lot of it here right.

00:02:12
Speaker 3: And we have a brand new stock ride of KSR gear. I said, let's update our selection a little bit. So now they have really nice hoodies, Nike hats. They're a little well they're a little expensive, but they're worth it. I've had my Nike KSR hat I've had for a decade, so nice to see new KSR gear as well.

00:02:30
Speaker 6: With Valentine's Day a week away, nothing like a KSR T shirt, I mean, what more you want to score points with your review.

00:02:37
Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever dated someone that that's what I think they would have wanted.

00:02:42
Speaker 2: But if but I.

00:02:43
Speaker 3: Do think there's some people listening that that's what they would have wanted. But I would take it as a gift for me.

00:02:48
Speaker 7: Yeah, to each their own, but I mean that. And you've also got Nashville coming up with the SEC tournament. You surely need to, you know, get some update to your wardrobe. This is a great place to do.

00:02:57
Speaker 2: It all right. So it's nice to see you guys. Sorry I missed yesterday.

00:03:01
Speaker 3: I was otherwise detained with the colonoscope twenty twenty five, got a clean bill of health. They said I don't have to come back for ten years. Oh, which yeah, yeah, he said they he said. Normally they give five year uh tickets. He said, but occasionally, if we go in and it's one hundred percent clean, we give a ten year golden ticket. And Ryan, they gave me a ten year. I feel like I had won. I was like cheering my colon on when I got home. I was like, well done, that's what I That's what I'd been hoping.

00:03:30
Speaker 6: Well, I can tell you this now.

00:03:32
Speaker 2: What do you mean now?

00:03:33
Speaker 6: When I went back to get you, I was secretly was getting ready to videotape you, cause I thought you'd be out of it on your you know NSDA.

00:03:40
Speaker 3: You wanted to make Yeah, because they called you back. It's really when they go who who's with you? And you say Ryan, and they go house he related to you And I said not at all. And then you came back and you were gonna tape me.

00:03:53
Speaker 6: I was gonna tape you. I go back there and you're you're a little druggy, but you're very you know, alert and awake.

00:03:59
Speaker 2: Somebod coherent than you are telling the store no.

00:04:01
Speaker 6: Doubt about it.

00:04:03
Speaker 7: Did you reward your colon with the cheeseburger and then, well I knew he was fine when like he started bragging on himself ten years.

00:04:10
Speaker 6: I don't have to come back for ten years.

00:04:12
Speaker 3: You're very competitive person hitting They said they only give the ten year one to like three to five percent of the people.

00:04:17
Speaker 2: I was like, that's right, Colin.

00:04:19
Speaker 8: I can't wait for the next ambient show my colon.

00:04:25
Speaker 2: That would be a good bragging point.

00:04:28
Speaker 3: So I do want to say to people, first of all, you should do it.

00:04:32
Speaker 2: It's really easy, Like it's I mean, the prep is not the.

00:04:37
Speaker 3: Most fun thing in the world, but like I actually think people talked it up a little more like I was expecting it.

00:04:43
Speaker 2: Ryan, you've done this, so I'll talk to you. I was expecting it to be awful. I mean, it's not the greatest, but it's not awful, you know.

00:04:51
Speaker 3: I mean the only part I had to eat take those pills. Taking twelve pills in fifteen minutes when they're big horse fill that's actually kind of a by the tenth when you're gagging a little bit.

00:05:01
Speaker 2: But besides that, I didn't think it was that bad.

00:05:03
Speaker 6: It's not really that bad. You just don't want to stray far away from your restaurant.

00:05:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I didn't come to the show, is I thought, you know what this is. I don't know that everybody needs to be part of this part of it.

00:05:13
Speaker 7: Mario, when it has some really good content of you running down the hall into the restroom.

00:05:16
Speaker 2: Every five, I don't know I everybody wants to see that. Now. When I went to the place, I was the youngest person in the building by thirty years. No, I mean, Ryan, you were there.

00:05:29
Speaker 6: I was the second youngest person.

00:05:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.

00:05:32
Speaker 3: It was not so when I saw that, my thought was, you know, we do need to tell people, like, if you're forty five to fifty years old, you need to do it right, because it doesn't seem like to me maybe a lot.

00:05:44
Speaker 2: Of people are doing it just by the thing that was there, but you should.

00:05:48
Speaker 3: You know.

00:05:48
Speaker 2: I had some of you write me.

00:05:50
Speaker 3: I had like three or four of you write me and say that you wish you had done it earlier, because like they waited till they were in their fifties and then they caught something that was more advanced, and that if they had done it earlier, they might have caught it. So I'm just here to say, like everybody acts like Drew, it's the worst thing in the world. First of all, you get your best twenty minutes of sleep of your life. Like they give you this thing called what's it called loop prope paul or something like that. They give you that, And I said to the woman that was doing it. She goes, all right, we're gonna give you the anesthesi in just second. And I said, you know, sometimes it's really hard for me to fall asleep. And she said, I'm undefeated. And the next thing and the next thing I remember is waking up in a different room, so she is undefeated. It's and then you wake up and it's like you're the best twenty minutes of sleep you ever had.

00:06:39
Speaker 4: I'm actually looking forward to mine. I'll probably have one before the year's over. But did you take yours and put it on the fridge. Just have like a sticker that says like.

00:06:46
Speaker 2: When it's over, When it's over, they give you a picture. Had a picture.

00:06:50
Speaker 3: Actually, they give you ten pictures. They give you your colon from every angle. Yeah, and you know you don't really see that part of you a lot, at least I know maybe.

00:07:00
Speaker 2: Other people do. Yeah, well, here's what I was gonna say.

00:07:04
Speaker 3: I've gotta you can't embarrass me with the butt cheeks picture anymore.

00:07:08
Speaker 2: I got a whole other level of it.

00:07:09
Speaker 8: Can I get an autograph car.

00:07:13
Speaker 2: If you want.

00:07:14
Speaker 3: I will notice though, when you other people aren't as excited to see that about you as you are.

00:07:19
Speaker 2: I don't know what.

00:07:20
Speaker 3: As I was looking at him, I was like, well, it looks good, it feels like, it feels like that's.

00:07:23
Speaker 5: What's I mean, Yeah, it's me recognize that I can.

00:07:27
Speaker 2: Tell who I am in that one.

00:07:29
Speaker 3: But but yeah, so I do highly recommend it, right, And I do want to thank Ryan because that was actually very nice. You know, Ryan comes in, he's got the smiling little face. He took me to get something to eat when it was over.

00:07:40
Speaker 2: It was very nice. If you thank you very much for your help.

00:07:43
Speaker 6: Will you ask him you got a cheeseburger? Went to the cookout drive through?

00:07:47
Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, Actually, why is everybody like that place so much?

00:07:51
Speaker 3: I mean it's okay, I mean yeah, I feel like that was I should have picked a different place for my for my first thing. But anyway, glad to get that done. Thank you to the to the doctors there, and it was worth it.

00:08:04
Speaker 6: There was one more thing. When you were going downder your anesthesias, you told the lady it's not working and he goes, you're almost You said something like.

00:08:11
Speaker 2: I just told that story.

00:08:12
Speaker 6: No you did? You You left off the part where she said you're almost done, You're almost there. I'm not asleep yet, and then she said I'm almost there. That's when you went out. Do you remember talk telling that story.

00:08:23
Speaker 2: I just told the story of what happened?

00:08:25
Speaker 6: Well, you didn't tell that that next line?

00:08:27
Speaker 2: Did you were back there with me?

00:08:28
Speaker 9: No?

00:08:28
Speaker 6: You were telling me when I came to get you.

00:08:30
Speaker 2: Oh okay, Well I don't remember that part.

00:08:32
Speaker 5: Oh really like I had to be there moment.

00:08:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, eight five, nine, two, eight, twenty two eighty seven. Thanks to all of you who wrote me nice notes going into it, and uh tomorrow if we lose, it might be a postgame show worse than the colonoscopy was for prep as we play South Carolina at home, who is not won a game yet in the SEC, they're like oh and eight, oh and nine. I'm not sure which O and nine they come in here. I haven't seen have you seen a spread yet? That'll come out probably right after the shot, usually the afternoon. I have not seen a spread, But I'm gonna guess what Kentucky by eleven twelve? Probably yeah, So, I mean it's probably gonna be somewhere around there. You and I have been pretty good at guessing these. This is a Ryan This is a can't lose game. I mean there's you know, like next week we play home Tennessee road Texas. You know you could say, well, I hope we win, but it's not the worst thing.

00:09:26
Speaker 2: You gotta win this one.

00:09:27
Speaker 3: There's no scenario where you go into the rest of the season, at least for me, with confidence.

00:09:33
Speaker 2: If you lose this game.

00:09:34
Speaker 6: You've lost what your last two home games, You've lost four your last five. You have to beat this team, the team that comes in limping in or the worst in the SEC. And if you don't take care of business at home, well then you've got more issues than we think.

00:09:46
Speaker 3: I also look at it as look right now, teams fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen in the SEC at least Arkansas. Arksas's moved up, but they were fourteen to fifteen and sixty. They were the only three teams in the or fifty sixteen to seventeen eight, whatever it is, the bottomye, I forget how many teams are in the conference. Now the bottom three teams, the three teams that are projected to not go to the NCAA tournament. You have this weird schedule where you play them all at home. Well, we've already lost a one up. We can't lose to a second.

00:10:15
Speaker 2: You just can't. I mean you you.

00:10:17
Speaker 6: Saturday is the must win.

00:10:19
Speaker 4: Game of all must win games, and they've dropped the ball in this game the last two years. Kentucky was a nineteen and a half point favorite in South Carolina.

00:10:26
Speaker 5: Came into rup two years ago and beat them.

00:10:28
Speaker 3: Then still not I think most embarrassing absolutely've had, I really do was two years ago.

00:10:32
Speaker 4: Last year a double digit favorite there. Lamont Paris is actually two to zero against Kentucky, which is outrageous. And this team, I'm not trying to hype them up too much. They're dead lasting offense, which is very good when the defensive struggles, but five of their nine losses to ranked teams were by marchin of three points.

00:10:48
Speaker 5: I mean, they took.

00:10:48
Speaker 2: Auburn of the wire, they had a game take they should have won.

00:10:51
Speaker 4: Again, they had a game in overtime, they took Alabama the wire, so.

00:10:54
Speaker 8: That was one point game. Yeah.

00:10:55
Speaker 4: Even though they've lost every game, they've been all of the in all of them but a few.

00:10:59
Speaker 5: So I mean they're bad, but maybe not as bad as the record shows.

00:11:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, shit, but no excuse. We gotta win.

00:11:06
Speaker 3: I don't care how bad an to nine team cannot come in here to rub and win if you're wanting to do something, you know, I think Kentucky probably makes the tournament even if they only win their three home games against LSU, South Carolina, Vandy. I don't want to what make the tournament that way, but I actually think we would. But if you lose tomorrow, now the possibility and not making the tournament is a real possibility, and we just can't.

00:11:31
Speaker 7: Have Tomorrow is one of those games where they have to get off to a great start and not fall behind. If they get out to a good lead at halftime and just pour on, you know, just push down the gas in the second half, Kentucky I think can win in a blowout, but you don't want to leave South Carolina any chance to hang around because, as we just talked about, they can they can fight.

00:11:48
Speaker 2: And we can't. We can't stop anybody.

00:11:50
Speaker 3: So part of the thing is I don't want to get down into a one possession game here or there because we can't stop anybody, and we've got to have a big enough lead it doesn't matter. There's also the fact, right, it's a noon start. Now we've played pretty well in these games, in these noon games, but it is a noon start, you know. I think I think losing the Arkansas game has taken a little bit of the wind out of the sales of this fan base a little bit. I don't get the sense the fan base is angry, but I also don't get the sense that the excitement is what it was a week ago. So I kind of think, Ryan, you gotta win this to get it amped up again.

00:12:28
Speaker 2: Then Tennessee comes in Tuesday.

00:12:30
Speaker 3: People will be excited for that because it's Tennessee, but not if we lose today, like you've got to win.

00:12:36
Speaker 6: I totally agree with you. Arkansas did kind of take the wind down of our fan base of sales, and then not just that they lost you the night, it's how they lost the other night down I don't miss It's like those two losses combined does kind of seem to have affected our fan base and our attitude and our expectations. That's why you have to win tomorrow year.

00:12:50
Speaker 3: Now, with all that said, I feel good about it. I mean I do feel like you mentioned South Caroline's lasting offense. I mean, we pick a number we need to score, we score seven, six, we win this game. I mean I do think if you, if you play anywhere near your potential, I think we can have a bad offensive game and still win this game if we do well.

00:13:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm always afraid of my jinks since I'm on this historically cold streak right now. But they're not a good three point shooting team. No turnovers would have killed them. That's why they've lost a lot of the games. They had a game with twenty five turnovers. So you're coming off just playing all miss that shot it well and had one turnover.

00:13:25
Speaker 2: Now's your chance.

00:13:25
Speaker 5: You've got the perfect opponent to match up with. You just have to go and get it done.

00:13:29
Speaker 3: Lamar Butler went back to non contact practice yesterday. That's a good news. I don't think he will play Saturday. I kind of don't think he'll play against Tennessee just because the physicality. But I think you might seem that next Saturday at Texas As the game that he might get back. So that's good. I don't think he goes back to practice Ryan.

00:13:50
Speaker 2: Unless he was going to play eventually. So I was glad to hear that.

00:13:54
Speaker 6: Yeah, you hearing these little things come out little by little. You know, he worked out and turning the shooting around, just Rrange's conditioning, run up and down the floor. He's a non contact drills yesterday. So these these baby steps to get him ready when we really need him when March starts.

00:14:04
Speaker 4: Their point guard just came back from an injury. He's only played four or five games, but he averaged like seventeen in those games back. So there's still not a good offensive threat, but at least he's a guy that can go.

00:14:15
Speaker 3: Gotta win, gotta win, gotta win that crowd tomorrow. I know it's not the most exciting, but if you go in that stadium arena, dude, not let him lose, like, because this is one of thosts. I don't care if it's about one point or twenty five points. We've got to win tomorrow. You cannot lose this one or for the first time all season, making the tournament becomes a little shaky to happen. Af I'm nine two oh twenty two eighty seven. We are here at Kentucky Brandon. We're gonna talk about I'm sure you all talked about yesterday, but we gotta talk about.

00:14:46
Speaker 2: Mark Pope breaking things. There's a lot of stuff to get into. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio Quarterback.

00:14:55
Speaker 3: It is Kentucky Sports Radio five nine two twenty two eighty seven.

00:14:59
Speaker 2: A couple of but a couple of things.

00:15:01
Speaker 3: Tomorrow, the bar will open at nine am for breakfast. We're serving breakfast before South Carolina. They're making it up today. I'm a huge fan of our breakfast. We only do it a handful of times a year, but we're doing it tomorrow. Open up at nine am. Our pregame show starts at nine to thirty, so if you want to come on your way to the game or just come by and then you can watch the game there starting at noon, but we'll open up the bar at nine, so a couple of hours early tomorrow if we win the game.

00:15:28
Speaker 2: Which that we better win the game. If we win the.

00:15:31
Speaker 3: Game, I'll do the postgame show from the bar as well.

00:15:35
Speaker 2: I'm you know that's gotta happen, Like if we don't, then be looking for me somewhere else with a picture of my colon rolling around upset.

00:15:44
Speaker 8: You brought this up a couple of times.

00:15:45
Speaker 7: Are you legit concerned that that might be a possibility that they lose this game tomorrow.

00:15:50
Speaker 3: I'm only concerned to the extent that, you know, we just don't have a dude that makes sure we don't lose game like this, Like I felt like on the you know, in.

00:16:03
Speaker 2: The last fifteen years are great teams, there.

00:16:05
Speaker 3: Was a guy that I could say, Okay, well even if we stink, this, dude's gonna make sure we don't lose this game.

00:16:12
Speaker 2: We just don't have that guy.

00:16:13
Speaker 3: I mean, Jackson Robinson is about eighty percent that guy, but he's not one hundred percent that guy. And I'm not sure you know ol Way driving to the basket to force us to get a layup.

00:16:26
Speaker 2: I just don't know that that's the thing.

00:16:28
Speaker 3: And we can't stop people, so whenever you can't stop people, that hurts you too, because you can't get that. I mean even at Old Miss we cut it to eleven, you get a couple stops.

00:16:37
Speaker 2: Maybe it's a game we just can't get to stop.

00:16:39
Speaker 4: You know, the defense is like ninety percent of the worry. For me, I wasn't even down on the team after the Arkansas loss. I mean I was down that they lost that game because of what was on the other side, but I still wasn't that disappointed in the basketball team as just they shot it well.

00:16:53
Speaker 5: That first and half against Old Miss. I was just like, what the hell is this?

00:16:56
Speaker 4: People weren't even trying and if they keep doing that, anybody can beat them.

00:17:00
Speaker 3: Yes, Tonight, by the way, Saint John's and Yukon tonight at eight o'clock on Fox. There are very few non SEC games that I really look forward to. I think tonight will be pretty awesome. I mean, Rick Patino, if it's if Patino wins tonight, Ryan, they could win the Big East, which is crazy.

00:17:19
Speaker 2: I mean they probably need to win the Night, but if they win the Night.

00:17:23
Speaker 3: Now he's on the road at Yukon, that's gonna be a crazy environment there. This will kind of be the best of college basketball tonight with Saint John's and Yukon.

00:17:32
Speaker 6: I think you want to watch this game just because the potential of the fireworks with her, Danny Hurley kind of been mouthing the whole season, and Rick bringing Saint John's into Yukon. I think this could really be an exciting game to watch.

00:17:41
Speaker 2: I'd like to see. You think Rick might punch Danny Hurley.

00:17:44
Speaker 8: I'd like to see that. Actually, just a little.

00:17:46
Speaker 2: Seventy one year old cross check there for Rick still.

00:17:49
Speaker 8: Looks he's in great shape. He could probably do that. He looks like he's who would you take it a fight? Rick or Dan Hurley? Hurley as though he would just Dan.

00:17:57
Speaker 2: He's got twenty five years on him.

00:17:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, And I bet Danny you know, but you got you got a mouth like Danny Hurley.

00:18:04
Speaker 2: You have to have been hitting the face at some point in your life.

00:18:08
Speaker 7: Patino, though, he's gonna fight dirty, He's gonna give you a low blow and he won't him to give you a chance to get her.

00:18:12
Speaker 3: Here's the problems fight with Tino. I've been to a Saint John's game since he's been there. There's some shady characters around Rick, but you know, like the whole I don't want to say he hangs out with the mafia, but there are dudes that look like they could have been extras in the Sopranos and all those Saint John's games.

00:18:32
Speaker 2: I'd be very careful messing with.

00:18:34
Speaker 8: Rick the donors with a bot of being right.

00:18:38
Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to trace where the cash is coming from for their nil tonight.

00:18:42
Speaker 2: I'm actually gonna root for Rick.

00:18:43
Speaker 4: It's the rare occasion where I hate the other team a whole lot more than anything.

00:18:47
Speaker 2: Rick.

00:18:47
Speaker 4: Oh absolutely, I de spise your calling. It's a good defense first offense matchup too. It should just be a good game over on.

00:18:53
Speaker 3: It should eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Here's my question for the fans. Are you still you still feel that confidence about the team? Are you still like not about Pope, I think ninety seven percent of people still, but about this particular team.

00:19:11
Speaker 2: Do you still have confidence? Who's up first?

00:19:15
Speaker 6: Got John of first?

00:19:16
Speaker 9: Joe?

00:19:17
Speaker 2: Go ahead, John. Rick's taking his time, don't you worry about his own pace? Go ahead? John? Yeah?

00:19:26
Speaker 10: Hey, uh hey, I'm glad to hear you talk about the uh I got a reverb back.

00:19:33
Speaker 11: There spotting me.

00:19:35
Speaker 9: Uh.

00:19:35
Speaker 2: I'm glad to hear that.

00:19:36
Speaker 10: Y'all are talking about this pretension contain game being potentially a tough game. I looked it up. South Carolina sixteen points away from being five and four in the conference, with wings over Auburn and a number of other ranked teams and possibly being ranked themselves. So I hope the BBN shows up. We just bought our tickets and we'll see y'all in the morning before the game.

00:20:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, well please come by, and yes, that's what you do. Have to be careful. But I also want to say this, I appreciate the call. If you're gonna be good and you're gonna do anything in the tournament, you gotta beat the O to nine team. I mean they yes they've been they were sixteen points, they could be five and four, but guess what they have won any of them. So you've got to make sure you're not the first one they get it. It's the same thing with Arkansas last week. Yeah, you know they lost close games, but you can't be the one to get them going hot. Looks like we've done that. Like we can't be the one to get South Carolina in a turnaround.

00:20:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, especially when it's just the style of play and the matchup you won. They don't score a lot of points. They've got a big guy who's first in the SEC and field goal percentage. They have two guys that can go out and get double doubles. But really, just overall, they're they're probably a little better than their record, but they're still just not a good team. So if you want Kentucky to be what Kentucky should be, this should absolutely be a win.

00:20:50
Speaker 2: Should be a big win.

00:20:51
Speaker 6: Really, you can't come out like you did against Ole Miss. You do that, you're not gonna beat anybody.

00:20:55
Speaker 2: Man.

00:20:56
Speaker 6: They got to galling up from the beginning of the game.

00:20:57
Speaker 3: They can't wait till Why do you think this team has struggled starting so much all year?

00:21:02
Speaker 2: Because they really have. I mean even when we were winning games.

00:21:05
Speaker 3: I mean we fell behind against Duke, we fell behind against Gonzaga, we fell behind in a lot of Florida.

00:21:11
Speaker 2: We fell behind a lot of these games. Like, why do you think we've done that?

00:21:14
Speaker 8: It's because the data hasn't been collected at that point.

00:21:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, halftime collected the night before. You know what, we got a lot of data. There's a lot of data out there. Well, let's talk about Pope for a second. He was bleeding from his hand in his postgame press conference and then he said he broke a lot of furniture, clearly broke enough to cut his wrist or the side of his hand. What do you think of that?

00:21:39
Speaker 2: Glad to hear it?

00:21:40
Speaker 4: Honestly, I mean, we love that he's so nice and does the stuff after games, and we compare him to ted ted Lasso. But when your team's not playing well and it's an effort toughness issue, they need someone to get up in him like that. Sorry, all miss to your furniture, but that had to happen, and it's good to know Pope has that in him when it gets to that point. He said in his radio show when he got back, like, you know, this isn't how I do it all the time, but sometimes you gotta run white hots and to let him know and get a point across.

00:22:04
Speaker 3: There was a couple of people from BYU made a statement this week, Ryan that he has a secret temper that doesn't come out a lot, but when it does, it can be very very strong. Did you ever see that in your days following him and working with him.

00:22:19
Speaker 6: Never, not one time that everything he had that in he he's always the happy, go lucky, fun loving guy on the court. But he's, like I said yesterday, hit like a parent. You got to pick and choose when you do it. You can't do it all the time, it won't have its value effect. You gotta do it at the right moment. And I think they needed it that night.

00:22:34
Speaker 4: And it probably comes with he just wants it so bad here, yes, I mean, you just know how.

00:22:38
Speaker 2: Bad he wants it.

00:22:38
Speaker 5: And to play like that and drop the ball, he knows how bad they I will.

00:22:41
Speaker 3: Say after the loss to Arkansas, there was a part of me that wanted to go up to him and go, hey man, all right.

00:22:48
Speaker 2: Like Eric said, I'm not even his friend, and I was. There was a part of me going, hey man, you know what it's gonna be, all right, be okay.

00:22:56
Speaker 3: So you cannot say he doesn't care. I'm not sure I've seen a coach who cares more than he does. We'll take a break five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.

00:23:06
Speaker 2: Here at Kentucky Brand it's KSR Waterback. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Here live.

00:23:16
Speaker 3: All right, listen, if we're gonna do this tomorrow. Part of it is an energy thing and you all need to give it like the team. Let's try that again. Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:23:26
Speaker 2: There we go more now.

00:23:29
Speaker 3: I just I feel like a little bit. And this happens in February a lot. This is a normal thing because seasons long, I feel like a little bit of like malaise coming over the fan base and a little bit of partially nervousness, et cetera. I mean, part of it was that we were running so white hot on Saturday.

00:23:46
Speaker 2: I hope the face.

00:23:47
Speaker 3: I mean, this is such a big game tomorrow and I and we and we can't lose it. I mean, we've got a lot of these other games. You've got some flexibility that you can't lose tomorrow.

00:23:57
Speaker 2: Drue, We just we can't. And that worries me a little bit.

00:24:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm wondering about that crowd. We've done it twice this year, but it was for two top five opponents. Florida was fifth, Alabama fourth. Of course, you can get up for those games at eleven and twelve. You've also, I'm sure a lot of people have big Sunday playing with the Super Bowl.

00:24:11
Speaker 2: So I know it's not the.

00:24:12
Speaker 4: Logo that'll get you out of bed and get you fired up tomorrow, but the team's gonna need it if you're going.

00:24:16
Speaker 2: To roup we do. One person, says Matt.

00:24:19
Speaker 3: I have confidence, but I need to see Pope substitute better to think we can make a run. Worry to you know, I'm not well not to question the coach, but you know what, people are not emperors.

00:24:31
Speaker 2: You should be able to question them.

00:24:34
Speaker 9: You know.

00:24:34
Speaker 3: They asked Pope about are you maybe playing your subs too much? And Shannon he said the opposite. He goes, I actually want to play him more.

00:24:43
Speaker 2: I didn't like that, An I didn't either.

00:24:46
Speaker 8: Let's get the starters more minutes.

00:24:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, he said.

00:24:49
Speaker 3: He said, you know, it's a thing you go back and forth on. But he's like, we survive on energy, and he seemed to suggest we were gonna see even more of those guys Ryan.

00:24:59
Speaker 2: I don't know.

00:24:59
Speaker 3: I mean, maybe maybe he sees something I don't, but I don't know.

00:25:04
Speaker 6: I know he's trying to save some minutes to keep the fatigue away. But it's February. I mean, we're a month away from March madness start. I mean it's time to go through your your best guys. They're in condition, they're in shape, they don't need I think those extra minutes.

00:25:17
Speaker 3: Well, person said Matt, what is a percentage chance we don't make the tournament? I mean, I'd put it at less than ten. But it's not zero, right, it's not I mean, it's not zero. The question is, I think you make it if you just win South Carolina lsu Vani at home. You don't go in excited. You're probably a nine to ten eleven seed. Like, it's not great, but you're in. But you lose one of those games, and then it's a conversation. At that point, then you start thinking, oh no, we got to win a couple of these road games. We gotta pull one off in the SEC tournament. Like you know, that's that's the to me, that's the mindset.

00:25:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, looking at it with some recency bias, we're all very disappointed. But if you just put down all the resumes on the table, Kentucky Stars one of the best resumes right now. Now, if you drop the game on Saturday, talking on Sunday and then that resume took a big hit. But I mean there's still third in quad one wins. I know we hated to lose Arkansas, and.

00:26:09
Speaker 2: The party still has this as a fight.

00:26:11
Speaker 5: I mean, Oxford sucked, but there you're still a four seed after that.

00:26:14
Speaker 8: Get you're four and five right now?

00:26:16
Speaker 7: If they go four and five again over the second, you're eight and ten or you're eight and ten.

00:26:20
Speaker 8: On the sec you're in.

00:26:21
Speaker 2: He eight and ten is in and seven to eleven?

00:26:24
Speaker 3: Probably is it as crazy as that sounds because of how good the league is this year? I will say, if we're like a four seed, y'all better get ready to get in that car again because the guess where we'll end up.

00:26:35
Speaker 2: If we're a four seed.

00:26:36
Speaker 8: Seattle San Francisco close.

00:26:39
Speaker 6: So yeah, I'm pretty sure they have flights to San Francisco.

00:26:43
Speaker 3: You I'm pretty sure you can pull out that wall of the years and pay for him if you want a trip to San Francisco from Kentucky on fourth four days.

00:26:51
Speaker 2: Notice, ain't the cheapest thing in.

00:26:52
Speaker 8: The housing is like the most expensive plays on.

00:26:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, so I mean we're gonna spend the money on the hotel room.

00:26:57
Speaker 3: You just go, you get, you get buy your flight if you what who's Who's up next?

00:27:02
Speaker 6: Taco is up next?

00:27:03
Speaker 2: Taco? How are you Taco?

00:27:07
Speaker 11: Hey, buddy, I'm good.

00:27:09
Speaker 2: What's going on?

00:27:09
Speaker 11: I got a different take. I guess I agree with what Pope said. The only thing you're foreign, you're lost probably last five. Do you think there was an opportunity?

00:27:18
Speaker 2: Man the opportunity maybe.

00:27:22
Speaker 11: He should have started as far as maybe if he starts Perry as soon as Butler's out and just letting play through. If you're four and five, was Perry at the point everybody else is in their position. I think you're looking better coming out of this stretch.

00:27:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I don't know if we'd even be four and five. I mean, I you know, you think we.

00:27:42
Speaker 3: Win at Tennessee with Travis Perry playing thirty minutes at point guard.

00:27:49
Speaker 11: I mean, I think it makes everybody else. They stay in their position, so they're better. They they're stronger in their own position.

00:27:56
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:27:56
Speaker 3: I mean, I actually think Jackson Robinson has played the point pretty well. I mean, I I think Jackson Robinson's done a pretty good job. He scored over twenty. I think in every game since Butler's been out. I think the problem for me has been Kobe Braa can't make a shot and when we go to our bench we crash.

00:28:16
Speaker 2: I mean, remember we have starters. I appreciate the call.

00:28:18
Speaker 3: Take the Arkansas game, our best players had a plus number, Mario, we lost by Arkansas to ten.

00:28:26
Speaker 2: Amari Williams was plus four, Otago Away was well, Otagas was.

00:28:30
Speaker 3: A little low, but Robinson was like plus one or plus two, and who am I missing? Cal may Omari had plus Amari was the highest. My point is our best players numbers. Well, the problem was Garrison was minus sixteen and those guys like it's when we went to the bench that we collapsed in that game.

00:28:51
Speaker 2: It really wasn't the top guys. Yeah.

00:28:53
Speaker 4: I tried to close the book on that game completely, but it still haunts me a little bit of what could have been when they were up eighteen twelve and he took those guys out because.

00:29:00
Speaker 2: They were rolling.

00:29:01
Speaker 4: They were rolling, and that's just everything fell off at that moment. You can't go back in time, but I do wonder if he had just stuck with his starters longer, play your best players, if that eighteen to twelve could have turned twenty something to twelve.

00:29:12
Speaker 3: Let me flip for a second, because in the second hour, we're gonna be doing basketball and I'm sure the Super Bowl.

00:29:17
Speaker 2: Mike Hartline was hired by Mark.

00:29:19
Speaker 3: Stoops yesterday to be an offensive quality control assistant. If for people who don't know, his brother has done an amazing job at Ohio State and is now the new offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

00:29:32
Speaker 2: Ryan, do you like the Mike Hartline higher?

00:29:35
Speaker 6: I love it. You know, I've always been a big Mike Hartline fan. His senior year at Kentucky, he had a monster year. His numbers were as good as Jared Lovey Woodson. I mean, he really had a great season, but people don't remember it because he got suspended for the Bowl game. It kind of ended badly.

00:29:49
Speaker 3: Mike Hartline is definitely an example of somebody who suffers from the bias of comparison, because you know, he came after Tim Couch, Jared Lorenz and Andre Woodson, these guys, even Dusty Bonner that put up huge numbers. Then in your incomes heartline, he has a better season statistically than we've had since, but he gets compared to all the guys prior, and he almost just looked like as a guy who was kind of a failure. Yeah, and he got suspended for the Bowl game, which is the last thing people remember. But he was really good, he really and if in the last two years we had had him as quarterback, we would have been good.

00:30:27
Speaker 2: And so I actually am glad.

00:30:28
Speaker 3: And then it's clear, at least with his brother, His brother is shown to be a great offensive mind. If you're getting you know, a third of that with Mike, I think it's a great high.

00:30:37
Speaker 4: Oh, it's great. He's been on a good path in his own career coaching. Also, I'm glad he landed here and he's definitely one that history forgets a little bit. How good he was that throwed a Randall Cobb to beat South Carolina is one of my favorite UK memories. We were losing our minds for that upset, and that's that's one of a few big wins he had in that spot with really me he had Cobb, But other than that wouldn't some great pieces around him that he was still playing well quarterback.

00:30:58
Speaker 3: And I think it's nice to have have you know, you don't have to have ten of them, Ryan, but it's nice to have one or two guys that are connected to the fabric of this program.

00:31:09
Speaker 9: In it.

00:31:09
Speaker 2: You know, Schlarman was for a long time.

00:31:11
Speaker 3: I think there's some value in having a guy who has a connection here. You know, he didn't play for Stoops, he played before Stoops to get brought in. I think that's I really was excited to see. I mean, does does make a huge impact. I don't know, but I think having him around and having a young talent like that is good.

00:31:29
Speaker 6: I agree with you. You know they had Drake Jackson has been on the staff. I think when these recruits come in they can't connect with him a little better because they played here, they lived it, They know what it means to put on that jersey. So I think it definitely a great hire of what coach dubs, Who's next?

00:31:42
Speaker 9: Ed up?

00:31:43
Speaker 2: Next, ed go ahead?

00:31:46
Speaker 9: Hey man? UH got twos here for you before. I think it's not just I think it's uh it is important to win South Carolina, but also all the way we win.

00:32:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't care.

00:32:04
Speaker 5: I don't.

00:32:07
Speaker 3: I mean, I think I get it'd be nice to win going away or what, but like we just gotta win. If we win by one point on a shot at the buzzer, like we just need those numbers to add up at least in my opinion.

00:32:20
Speaker 2: Why do you think it matters how we win.

00:32:23
Speaker 10: Well?

00:32:24
Speaker 9: Because if we win easily and convincingly, we're on the right track.

00:32:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, I just want to win. I mean, I appreciate the call.

00:32:34
Speaker 3: I convincingly would be nice, but but then like if we went convincing, everybody's just gonna go, well they stick.

00:32:40
Speaker 2: You know.

00:32:41
Speaker 3: For me, it's just about us getting the w because we're what fifteen and seven, Like, it's time to go sixteen and we need that number to move from fifteen to one higher point.

00:32:50
Speaker 7: I don't think you're gonna get extra credit if you beat South Carolina about one or fifteen.

00:32:54
Speaker 3: No, Yeah, I mean the numbers, the numbers for us, the analytic number are gonna be what they are, which is we're top five offense, we're a horrible defense analytically, and we got one of the hardest strength of schedules in the country and drew. Nothing's gonna change that probably for the rest of the year.

00:33:11
Speaker 4: And if tomorrow ends up being a two point win, just remember, as we said Auburn Alabama, there's a lot of teams that were happy to get out of that South Carolina game.

00:33:19
Speaker 3: With the loss to them South Carolina was up. They South Carolina should have won that game. Kentucky Chambers working on important issues Kentuckians are facing. 00:34:09
Speaker 2: All Right, Shannon, I don't know what made me think this, but this feels like a U topic.

00:34:13
Speaker 8: All Right, hit me with it.

00:34:14
Speaker 3: Did you see the NFL had their awards last night and Josh Allen was named MVP. That was like one of the first times the MVP was kind of like who's gonna win? Normally, you know, last night you weren't sure, but Josh Allen won, but the only thing he reready talked about was Bill Belichick and his girlfriend. So Bill Belichick is seventy one years old, his girlfriend is twenty five, is.

00:34:38
Speaker 2: That right, mid twenties, Yeah, yeah, twenty five.

00:34:42
Speaker 3: They came on the red carpet to walk down the red carpet, and she looked she was beautiful, she looked was wearing like this crazy beautiful dress. And then he was Bill Belichick. Ye, he was flexing with his Super Bowl rings on his hand, and he gave her one to wear, so he had like five on his hand, and then she had one on them.

00:35:04
Speaker 2: And then Snoop Dogg made a joke.

00:35:07
Speaker 3: Snoop Dogg was like, I'm so old I can remember when and he said like the Cowboys were good, and he said something else and then he goes and before Belichick, Bill Belichick's girlfriend was even bored and.

00:35:21
Speaker 2: Everybody laughed, ha haha.

00:35:23
Speaker 3: Two things, First of all, like, if you're Belichick, like what do you think about that? Like you just like cause he's everyone just makes fun of him constantly about this, but they probably also are like, nice job, Bill Belichick.

00:35:39
Speaker 2: But also it's a little strange.

00:35:41
Speaker 8: What do you think they're all secretly jealous. Let me tell you.

00:35:44
Speaker 7: If I'm seventy one and I can date a twenty five year old, I don't care. You can make all the jokes that you want, because I'm the one who gets the last laugh when I get to take her home at the end of the night.

00:35:55
Speaker 2: So Sarah know that's how you feel.

00:35:57
Speaker 7: I don't know what the way do I get the seventy one I'm still she knows.

00:36:02
Speaker 3: She knows how you feel right now, Like, in general, would that be something you would want?

00:36:06
Speaker 2: Like would you say that to Sarah.

00:36:07
Speaker 8: We're just talking hypothetically.

00:36:09
Speaker 2: This is a theory.

00:36:10
Speaker 7: I will never coach the Patriots. I will never have what nine Super Bowl rings?

00:36:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't.

00:36:16
Speaker 8: Think we'll ever have to worry about it. I get six, Well, he's got one. He had one on every finger. Were are all those other rings?

00:36:21
Speaker 2: But I don't know. Oh maybe when he was the Giants coordinator.

00:36:25
Speaker 8: Regardless.

00:36:25
Speaker 7: Yes, we're all talking hypothetical here, so that will never happen, so we don't have to worry about that.

00:36:30
Speaker 8: But great for Bill Belichick. My man is living his best life.

00:36:33
Speaker 3: Let me ask you a different question. Yes, let's say you're that woman's dad. There's a decent chance Bill Belichick is older than you, right, No, I mean.

00:36:43
Speaker 2: There's a really good chance.

00:36:45
Speaker 3: I don't know how old her dad is, but my guess is she's he's younger than Bill Belichick.

00:36:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, Ryan, you don't have a daughter, but you have sons.

00:36:54
Speaker 3: Let's say you had a daughter and she brings home a seventy one year old man. But he's a very success full like your daughter could at some point.

00:37:03
Speaker 2: Inherit that very soon. Do you? Uh? Do you? Are you good?

00:37:09
Speaker 6: Okay, if we're gonna play this out for real, you gotta have a sit down your daughter and say what are you happy? Does he make you happy? Is he good?

00:37:16
Speaker 3: Because I's just assume she says, of course, why would I be with this seventy one year old man unless he made me happy?

00:37:21
Speaker 8: Money makes her very happy.

00:37:22
Speaker 6: And if I get that, if I get that from my daughter, I'm you're gonna be good with I think you have to be at your daughter's life. She's twenty five years old.

00:37:31
Speaker 2: She said, you think you'd just be like, what up?

00:37:35
Speaker 6: I think if he's good to her and she feels happy and feels.

00:37:38
Speaker 2: So what are you saying to Bill Belichick, good for you, like, literally, she's day, that's your daughter, that's your daughter. Oh I feel dad?

00:37:47
Speaker 8: Yeah?

00:37:48
Speaker 12: Right, goodness, I thought I was just a regular god. I can't look it's your daughter. You can't look at him and go good job? Like yeah, I think every okay, I would, But think.

00:37:58
Speaker 2: About this for a minute. How were you? Like? How old is Gavin?

00:38:01
Speaker 6: He's twenty seven?

00:38:02
Speaker 3: Okay, so you're what fifty eight? Okay, so you are fifty six years old? Yeah, and your daughter brings somebody my mom's age. Oh, you're not gonna be like, You're just gonna be like, what up?

00:38:19
Speaker 2: Bill, Let's talk about Super Bowl forty four.

00:38:23
Speaker 8: No.

00:38:23
Speaker 6: I think there's some serious conversations that have to go on. But I think so.

00:38:26
Speaker 3: Let's hear that conversation. Let's act like I'm your daughter, all right. I sit here, all right, all right, So tell.

00:38:32
Speaker 2: Me I'll be Bill.

00:38:33
Speaker 3: I'm just here dad, dating this man right here. I just want to make sure you're good with it.

00:38:41
Speaker 6: Yeah, and obvious, Bill, can I talk to my daughter alone for a second? Get your hands off my daughter?

00:38:54
Speaker 8: Could do it.

00:38:55
Speaker 6: What do you think? What is your attraction to Him's the first thing.

00:38:58
Speaker 3: I want, so kind to me, and he treats me better than anyone has. Yes, he's old, but no one has ever been nicer.

00:39:06
Speaker 6: Well have you thought about that? If this progresses as he gets older, you will be his caretaker.

00:39:11
Speaker 3: You'll be taking care of like you're hire somebody. I'm not wiping up him. After it's over, We'll hire someone. And he said he will do that.

00:39:37
Speaker 2: All right, Well there you go? Is that?

00:39:40

00:41:01
Speaker 6: Isn't it.

00:41:02
Speaker 7: I mean a little bit, but again, but he's still down. You know, you're gonna say what you want. At the end of the day, you're still a dating Selena Gomes.

Speaker 2: I agree that.

00:41:19
Speaker 3: If I represented the young woman, I'd be like, if you're gonna get into this, be very careful what you signed. And then if you're Bill Belichick's kids, you know, your your inheritance maybe getting pushed off forever like it may be.

00:41:35
Speaker 2: You know, it's just got to be strange. That's all I'm saying.
