<v Speaker 1>an anonymous source. That influencer that you follow that puts
<v Speaker 1>on makeup while talking about someone's death. Yeah she cries sometimes. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>maybe she's even depressed. Maybe our life's fallen apart behind
<v Speaker 1>the scenes and you don't even know it. Looks could
<v Speaker 1>be deceiving. And no, I'm not talking about anybody in general.
<v Speaker 1>There's lots of makeup tutorial true crime shows out there, sadly,
<v Speaker 1>but the point is that sometimes people aren't who they
<v Speaker 1>seem to be. Monsters are very much real, but they
<v Speaker 1>aren't always the person you first suspect. It was eight
<v Speaker 1>thirty am on October twenty eighth, twenty twelve, and a
<v Speaker 1>Florida firefighter had just returned home after a grueling twenty
<v Speaker 1>four hours shift to find out that his house had
<v Speaker 1>been turned upside down.

<v Speaker 1>Kim had blood all over her face and hair. At
<v Speaker 1>first glance, it appeared that she had tried to hurt herself,
<v Speaker 1>so that's what her husband told dispatch. Her body was
<v Speaker 1>cold and posed like a in ballerina, with one leg
<v Speaker 1>curled frozen in a pirouette. Kim had two white zip
<v Speaker 1>ties around each of her wrists and one around her ankle.
<v Speaker 1>Kim's husband had found himself on the receiving end of
<v Speaker 1>a tragedy. As a firefighter, he experienced tragedy every shift,
<v Speaker 1>but it was much different now that it was happening
<v Speaker 1>in his own home, and he was growing increasingly angry
<v Speaker 1>as he waited for help.

<v Speaker 1>that his wife was dead.

<v Speaker 1>soften a little, and he finally let the tears out.

<v Speaker 1>This wasn't another shift as a firefighter. This was his house.
<v Speaker 1>His bedroom was covered in his wife's blood. Derek finally
<v Speaker 1>saw the situation for what it really was. He had
<v Speaker 1>just lost his wife, and he had no idea what
<v Speaker 1>had happened.
<v Speaker 3>Did it just come home?

<v Speaker 6>Was he already depressed about something?

<v Speaker 1>Kim and Derek Dorsey had a large, upscale house in
<v Speaker 1>a gated community. Because they had no children, only three
<v Speaker 1>miniature schnauzers, the couple were free to focus on their
<v Speaker 1>careers and self care. They had a gym, a bar,
<v Speaker 1>a billiard room, a big office, and a tanning room,
<v Speaker 1>all the fine luxuries in modern living. Kim had her
<v Speaker 1>own construction company and also worked as a director of
<v Speaker 1>training for the Quality Assurance Department of Inspection Depot. The
<v Speaker 1>Dorseys had a pretty comfortable life. The door sas also
<v Speaker 1>kept guns in the home for safety. Kim had won
<v Speaker 1>in a drawer beside her bed, and now it was missing.
<v Speaker 1>Kim had no bullet holes in her but there were
<v Speaker 1>obvious shots that had been fired into the walls.
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god, I don't know what's going on.

<v Speaker 1>When help arrived, Kim was quickly taken to the medical
<v Speaker 1>examiner's office. When rescue lifted her body, they found a
<v Speaker 1>broken pool queue on your neath her. Police began to
<v Speaker 1>search the house and found more peculiarities. Besides the plastic
<v Speaker 1>zip ties on Kim's body, the house was a mess.
<v Speaker 1>A dog statue at the front door had been kicked over,
<v Speaker 1>Derek's home office had been destroyed. Paperwork was thrown everywhere,
<v Speaker 1>and drawers were ripped open. In the guest bedroom, there
<v Speaker 1>was blood on the mattress. Police also found a half
<v Speaker 1>drunk bottle of Bacardi rum on the nightstand and cigarette
<v Speaker 1>butts on the floor, but neither Derek nor Kim smoked.
<v Speaker 1>In fact, Kim despised smoking and forbade it. In the home,
<v Speaker 1>Christmas wrapping paper had been tossed out of the closet
<v Speaker 1>and chucked onto the floor downstairs, the kitchen sink had
<v Speaker 1>been filled with TV remote controls for some reason. In
<v Speaker 1>the billiard and games room, a custom pool queue was
<v Speaker 1>missing from its place on the shelf. It was the
<v Speaker 1>same one found owned under Kim's body. After days of
<v Speaker 1>looking into this bizarre scene, the police needed more to
<v Speaker 1>work with. Perhaps this was a robbery gone wrong, so
<v Speaker 1>they went to the public.
<v Speaker 10>Coming to you today because several days later after that
<v Speaker 10>beginning of that investigation, we are not a whole lot
<v Speaker 10>farther along than more Sunday morning. I would like to
<v Speaker 10>solicit the public's help for information on this case. This
<v Speaker 10>case has garnered quite a bit of attention because of
<v Speaker 10>the fact this is a public servant's family members. The
<v Speaker 10>public has shown a lot of interest.
<v Speaker 8>And support thus far. I wanted to come forward at
<v Speaker 8>this time asking for help.
<v Speaker 6>Again.
<v Speaker 11>We worked that scene for several days, nearly a round
<v Speaker 11>the plot, and like I.
<v Speaker 4>Said, because of the lack of witnesses, the physical evidence, nothing.
<v Speaker 12>Has led us hold out farther to day in.
<v Speaker 4>Identifying leading to a suspect than that Sunday morning. And
<v Speaker 4>again this again the still servant's family member.
<v Speaker 13>And we want to make sure that anybody who has

<v Speaker 1>Kim's murder was brutal and messy. As police continued to
<v Speaker 1>examine the scene and talk to Derek, they found even
<v Speaker 1>more weird things. Derek's custom Harley Davidson Zippo lighter was
<v Speaker 1>missing from its box. Whoever did this to Kim had
<v Speaker 1>clearly stolen it, yet they'd left Derek's Rollicks watches on
<v Speaker 1>the nightstand and his computer untouched. In the garage, they
<v Speaker 1>found a Lonely Wives porn magazine, which Derek swore was
<v Speaker 1>not his.
<v Speaker 6>But it's a file away substantial, he describe some of that.
<v Speaker 11>I would prefer not to keep minded that there's just
<v Speaker 11>about anybody out there to be our suspect, and I
<v Speaker 11>don't want to let too much information to answer your

<v Speaker 1>Kim's head and face had been brutally beaten, her breasts
<v Speaker 1>were bruised and her ribs were fractured. She had died
<v Speaker 1>from one deep fatal stab wound to the neck. When
<v Speaker 1>detectives asked Derek to turn on his DVD player in
<v Speaker 1>the living room, he expected to see a movie he
<v Speaker 1>and Kim had been watching pop up on the screen,
<v Speaker 1>but that didn't happen. Instead, a porn movie called Lonely
<v Speaker 1>Wives came up. Derek got angry, motherfucker, that should not
<v Speaker 1>be on there. That's the same magazine that's out in
<v Speaker 1>the garage.
<v Speaker 11>It isn't gated neighborhood, so there may be some people
<v Speaker 11>in that actual neighborhood who we haven't spoken to. If
<v Speaker 11>there's relative information that anyone has regarding the activities that
<v Speaker 11>Kim may have had that Saturday to that Sunday, we
<v Speaker 11>would start to like to speak with them as well.
<v Speaker 1>Now the police had their work cut out for them.
<v Speaker 1>In the meantime, Derek prayed that somebody somewhere knew something.
<v Speaker 1>Derek Dorsey had returned home from a twenty four hour
<v Speaker 1>firefighting shift to find his wife Kim, beaten and stabbed
<v Speaker 1>to death in their upscale home. The house had been ransacked,
<v Speaker 1>but in strange ways. The police found remote controls in
<v Speaker 1>the kitchen sink as though someone had attempted to wash them,
<v Speaker 1>zip ties around Kim's wrists, as well as a pornographic
<v Speaker 1>movie in the DVD player. None of Derek's Rolex watches
<v Speaker 1>or computers had been taken. It seemed that whoever killed
<v Speaker 1>Kim stuck around the house for a long while after
<v Speaker 1>drinking and smoking and watching a porn movie called Lonely Wives.
<v Speaker 1>I haven't seen that one. I wonder if there's a
<v Speaker 1>part two, or three or four. Derek Dorsey was cooperative
<v Speaker 1>with the police. He admitted that things between him and
<v Speaker 1>Kim were not so great. Then again, every couple goes
<v Speaker 1>through tough times at one point or another. But Derek
<v Speaker 1>had been kind of sleeping around with other women behind
<v Speaker 1>her back. Maybe Kim knew, maybe she didn't, but he
<v Speaker 1>swore that he still loved his wife deeply.
<v Speaker 8>But she was a strong, beautiful, independent individual, worked hard
<v Speaker 8>for everything she ever did.
<v Speaker 1>She was a productive member of society, and this is
<v Speaker 1>just the type of person that she was. Derek said
<v Speaker 1>he had nothing to gain from Kim's death. There was
<v Speaker 1>no life insurance policy to be cashed out or a
<v Speaker 1>new girlfriend to move in and take Kim's place. Plus,
<v Speaker 1>Derek's alibi was solid and actually checked out. He was
<v Speaker 1>working at the fire station during the murder, So who
<v Speaker 1>did this? Derek and Kim were a career oriented couple.
<v Speaker 1>They had no kids, just a few dogs, and both
<v Speaker 1>worked in the construction world. Kim had a degree in
<v Speaker 1>civil engineering and headed up quality assurance for an inspection depot,
<v Speaker 1>where she helped Floridians prepare construction for hurricanes. Derek ran
<v Speaker 1>his own general contracting business on top of being a firefighter,
<v Speaker 1>so they had a lot of cash. But Kim took
<v Speaker 1>her work very seriously and it soon weighed on her.
<v Speaker 1>She couldn't turn off work, and she found herself taking antidepressants.
<v Speaker 1>She gained a lot of weight, her body changed, and
<v Speaker 1>her mind didn't feel so great. The week she was killed,
<v Speaker 1>she was planning on going back to the doctor to
<v Speaker 1>switch up her medication. The side effects were taking a
<v Speaker 1>major toll on her physical and mental health. That's why
<v Speaker 1>Derek immediately thought she'd killed herself when he came home
<v Speaker 1>to find her.
<v Speaker 3>You know dead, Okay, tell me exactly what happened. I
<v Speaker 3>don't know if you commit suicide.
<v Speaker 8>Loved the arm and gone.
<v Speaker 1>But Kim's death was not a suicide. The state of
<v Speaker 1>the house told a story of turmoil. Kim had clearly
<v Speaker 1>fought off whoever had attacked her. She'd even managed to
<v Speaker 1>get a gun at one point and fire off some
<v Speaker 1>rounds at her assailant, but she missed and the bullet
<v Speaker 1>hit the wall. It was also determined that Kim had
<v Speaker 1>been raped. She died from blunt force trauma to her
<v Speaker 1>head and a fatal stab wound. This attack was as
<v Speaker 1>personal as it is sickening. Derek ran a general contracting
<v Speaker 1>business and often employed various young guys on quick jobs.
<v Speaker 1>He gave the police a few names, including Joshua Ville
<v Speaker 1>and Lance Kirkpatrick or l J as he was called.
<v Speaker 1>Lance actually lived with the Dorseas at one point, and
<v Speaker 1>Derek said that he would have taken a bullet for Kim.
<v Speaker 8>So tell me when you lived with that one?

<v Speaker 1>he just sat there with his shirt off, and everyone
<v Speaker 1>else in the room was wearing normal clothes.

<v Speaker 1>Derek found his wife, they saw the same blue rab

<v Speaker 1>then leave. Lance is staying there and working for Brian
<v Speaker 1>because construction and everything else in his life has slowed down.

<v Speaker 1>Brian was involved in the drug world, but he also
<v Speaker 1>ran the legit business too.
