I was it CES last week <v Speaker 3>and I'm back and clearly moving moving in the process <v Speaker 3>of And yesterday I was going to set up my <v Speaker 3>office and I really I didn't. Yes, but that's because <v Speaker 3>I've had a burst of delusion that's made me think <v Speaker 3>that I can decorate this by myself. So that's what <v Speaker 3>I'm doing this weekend. <v Speaker 1>Sure, no, there was a vision. <v Speaker 3>I need a nail gun. <v Speaker 1>Sure, a nail gun, A nail gun. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, yes, okay, I'm American. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, hell yeah, let's go. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. So, there's been a lot going on and Nora <v Speaker 3>virus was going around CS. Ask me how I know. <v Speaker 1>Oh boy, Yep, that's we. That's what we had over <v Speaker 1>the holidays in my house. <v Speaker 2>So I'm not surprised to hear that has traveled and <v Speaker 2>made the trip over to Vegas. <v Speaker 3>Yeah that that hive of scum and villainy huh. But no, Otherwise, <v Speaker 3>I'm doing well waiting for Nintendo. I really thought I <v Speaker 3>would wake up this morning and see the switch to. <v Speaker 2>It's an announcement at least, right we were going to. <v Speaker 2>I think we're still we're waiting on that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, we'll see. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, I definitely have that ooh, I'm going to <v Speaker 2>do this, and then I just didn't feel like it. <v Speaker 2>And there's like seventeen things like that in my life <v Speaker 2>right now. It's it's getting rough. But yeah, the switch <v Speaker 2>dude's supposed to get announced tomorrow. <v Speaker 1>But there's definitely a word that the announcement of the <v Speaker 1>announcement could happen today. That's what happened. Yeah, it happened <v Speaker 1>so far. <v Speaker 3>Someone said I saw it on Blue Sky or Twitter <v Speaker 3>or something that, like they did at eight thirty pm <v Speaker 3>the night before. Yes, so it could be could be tonight. Also, <v Speaker 3>I'm very aware that this room is very echoey, but <v Speaker 3>I do have my new mic and Discord has finally <v Speaker 3>updated on my laptop, so let me quickly swopp. <v Speaker 1>Okay over there, all right, we're right shut. <v Speaker 3>Out listening experience. <v Speaker 1>I'll be right back. Yep. We're gonna lose Lucy for <v Speaker 1>a second. <v Speaker 2>In the meantime, have two Jeffs there you go, two <v Speaker 2>different Jeffs at slightly different angle. Att's got to be <v Speaker 2>kind of uncomfortable for everybody, but that's fine. Let me <v Speaker 2>get into what we do here most weekdays. I Jeff Grub. <v Speaker 2>We'll help piece your gaming life back together. That includes <v Speaker 2>breaking news and maybe even some of our own original reporting. <v Speaker 2>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a <v Speaker 2>bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If <v Speaker 2>you were watching live on twitch, welcome. You can always <v Speaker 2>listen to the show later on podcast feeds by searching <v Speaker 2>for Game Mess Mornings, or find the RSS on giant <v Speaker 2>bomb dot com. You can also also catch the show <v Speaker 2>later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. <v Speaker 1>Hello YouTube. <v Speaker 2>All right, we have a lot to get into, so <v Speaker 2>let's start the Morning Mess with Let's see if there's Lucy. <v Speaker 1>She's coming in right now. <v Speaker 3>Hi, could you hear you? I'm just moving this camera round. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, no problem, Yeah, take your time, we'll get it <v Speaker 1>all set up. <v Speaker 2>Let's start with a mysterious Nintendo Switch to Sea button <v Speaker 2>penned as a new social hub in sketchy new leak. <v Speaker 1>That's all. That's what we traffic in here, sketchy new leaks. <v Speaker 1>All right. <v Speaker 2>This is from Julian vander Murway at notebook Check. The <v Speaker 2>mysterious Sea button that's made a few appearances in him <v Speaker 2>of the redesigned Nintendo Switch to controllers seems to finally <v Speaker 2>have been identified as a new social feature called Campus. <v Speaker 2>Campus will allegedly enable a host of new features, including <v Speaker 2>screen sharing. An updated Nintendo Switch Too is seemingly in <v Speaker 2>the cards for an April launch according to a lot <v Speaker 2>of rumors, and one of the biggest expected upgrades coming <v Speaker 2>to Nintendo Handheld is the redesigned JOYCN controllers. One feature <v Speaker 2>that sparked a lot of speculation early on following those <v Speaker 2>controller leaks was the presence of a new button. <v Speaker 1>Bearing the letter C. <v Speaker 2>If news somewhat sketchy leaks are to be believed, we <v Speaker 2>now have an idea of what to expect from. <v Speaker 1>This new Switch to Sea button. <v Speaker 2>The leak supposedly obtained by data mining the current switch <v Speaker 2>OS and switch to SDK. Leaks claims that the new <v Speaker 2>Sea button will be a feature called Campus, which will <v Speaker 2>serve as a sort of social hub for the Switch to. Supposedly, <v Speaker 2>Campus will also be able to serve as a multiplayer <v Speaker 2>chat maybe potentially a video chat or at least voice <v Speaker 2>chat excuse me, and then group chat continuing up to <v Speaker 2>twelve participants who all need to have Nintendo Switch Online. Additionally, <v Speaker 2>Campus and consequently the Sea Button will also enable screen <v Speaker 2>capture and screen sharing, making a sort of stand in <v Speaker 2>for discord in the PC gaming space. The wording of <v Speaker 2>the weeks just the Campus or at least some of <v Speaker 2>its social features may be tied to the Nintendo Switch <v Speaker 2>Online subscription. Yeah, Lucy, we're gonna probably have some answers <v Speaker 2>on this relatively soon. But this is like one of <v Speaker 2>the few remaining mysteries about the hardware, which is what <v Speaker 2>Nintendo is going to focus on here pretty early on <v Speaker 2>in these upcoming announcements, because apparently the games are going <v Speaker 2>to get more detailed in February again according to rumors, <v Speaker 2>according to leaks, But hey, I think this sounds about right, <v Speaker 2>you know, if you're gonna put dedicate a button on <v Speaker 2>the front of one of these controllers to something, and <v Speaker 2>you're trying to have an upgraded experience from the switch <v Speaker 2>one to the switch to improved online functionality and multiplayer <v Speaker 2>features and sort of a social hub makes a lot <v Speaker 2>of sense, what do you. <v Speaker 3>Think it does? But at the same time, I don't <v Speaker 3>I don't want to be sat there like this, you know, <v Speaker 3>Chin's plenty right on my couch and then accidentally hit <v Speaker 3>the sea button and you know, broadcast that told my friends. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>like I don't need I don't need that. I've taken <v Speaker 3>off L's as it is. <v Speaker 2>I don't need to my My guess would be that <v Speaker 2>Nintendo would have chins protection on there, because you know, <v Speaker 2>what are they afraid of more than anything, families with <v Speaker 2>kids getting online and doing anything. So I bet there's <v Speaker 2>gonna be several layers. <v Speaker 1>Of confirmation before you can do that. <v Speaker 2>And again, like maybe video chat, but definitely voice chat <v Speaker 2>and and group chats. <v Speaker 3>So I don't say I think I think video chat <v Speaker 3>is a step too far for Nintendo. Yeah, famously afraid <v Speaker 3>of online features. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I don't even know if there's a camera on <v Speaker 1>this thing. <v Speaker 2>Honestly so that Yeah, you're probably right that that is <v Speaker 2>probably too far for them, even like the voice chat <v Speaker 2>is going to be something where I think they might <v Speaker 2>have limitations on there as well. <v Speaker 3>Do you think they'll have voice chat like Soul's games, <v Speaker 3>but not not like you pick from you picked from <v Speaker 3>a sin uh huh of set phrases like beautiful view ahead. <v Speaker 1>Yes, exactly. Uh, yeah, I think it'll be like that <v Speaker 1>that would give me. <v Speaker 3>They don't. <v Speaker 4>They wouldn't would they want, Yeah, like to your point, like, <v Speaker 4>wouldn't even want the potential for wrongdoing on their online systems. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, they don't. But I think they also recognize, uh <v Speaker 2>that this is crucial to a lot of gamers. <v Speaker 1>You know. <v Speaker 2>I think it's it's a handful of things. It is <v Speaker 2>Animal Crossing being very successful and people wanting better online <v Speaker 2>functionality in a game like that, and Splatoon being a <v Speaker 2>massive success for them, especially in Japan, uh and people <v Speaker 2>being like, hey, this is great, everything's great, except for <v Speaker 2>the online features. You want to use this Nintendo app <v Speaker 2>on our phones and it stinks. Kind of bringing that <v Speaker 2>into the system felt inevitable at a certain point for <v Speaker 2>this follow up, which we'll have you know, have the <v Speaker 2>benefit of hindsight and knowing how people use the switch, <v Speaker 2>knowing that people did want to play online games on <v Speaker 2>that thing and they didn't want to. <v Speaker 1>Use a separate app. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, I think that the Switch to coming in <v Speaker 2>this with this feature is makes a lot of sense. <v Speaker 2>Is there any part of you though? That's like, I <v Speaker 2>wish it was weirder than that. I wish Nintendo was <v Speaker 2>kind of getting in its bag and doing something a <v Speaker 2>little bit more off the wall like traditional Nintendo might <v Speaker 2>have done. <v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, I want this thing to be really weird. <v Speaker 3>I'm gearing myself up for this thing not to be <v Speaker 3>as weird as I hope it will be. I think <v Speaker 3>this is good. I think it's going to be very safe. <v Speaker 1>Yep, I think you're right. <v Speaker 3>That's not bad. Like you know, switch is did it <v Speaker 3>overtake the PS two yet? <v Speaker 1>Not yet? <v Speaker 3>It's close. <v Speaker 1>It's close. <v Speaker 2>It's close as anything could get really these days with <v Speaker 2>that when a world where these systems do not drop <v Speaker 2>down to ninety nine dollars in the way that the <v Speaker 2>PS two did and late late in its life. So yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's it's It's the second best selling console of all <v Speaker 2>time now, behind the PS two. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, yeah, and you're right. <v Speaker 2>I think that it is the right idea, and based <v Speaker 2>on all the leaks we've seen, correct to assume that <v Speaker 2>this thing is going to be a safe run follow <v Speaker 2>up to the switch one. Again, we're gonna know probably <v Speaker 2>very soon. You know, we haven't had any announcements of <v Speaker 2>the announcement, but tomorrow we probably do still get excuse me, <v Speaker 2>we probably do still get the initial drop on this thing, <v Speaker 2>and at that point they might show off what the <v Speaker 2>C button does in some in some way. Maybe it's <v Speaker 2>not going to be a fully detailed rundown of how <v Speaker 2>all this stuff works, but they will probably someone will <v Speaker 2>probably press that button, and then they'll show some really <v Speaker 2>pretty people talking to. <v Speaker 1>One another online. <v Speaker 2>I'm sure, do you Yeah, I don't know why, Like <v Speaker 2>C just feels. <v Speaker 3>Weird, you know. <v Speaker 2>I think it's Nintendo's weird about this sort of thing, <v Speaker 2>right where they had the Z button, right, because first <v Speaker 2>they had there was you know, they had A and <v Speaker 2>B on the Nintendo controller, and then when the Super Nintendo, <v Speaker 2>they're like, right, here's X, Y and L and R <v Speaker 2>and then when we need like a nel, yes, when <v Speaker 2>we need yeah, yes, exactly. So when we needed another <v Speaker 2>button on the N sixty four controller, it was Z <v Speaker 2>on the back, and then when we had the camera stick, <v Speaker 2>we just called that the C sticks. So whenever they <v Speaker 2>have a chance to like bring back a button or <v Speaker 2>introduce a new button, a lot of times they're like, well, <v Speaker 2>we had Z in the past, so these are now <v Speaker 2>ZL and ZR, And I think that's a big reason <v Speaker 2>they're going to put a S C button on there <v Speaker 2>as well. It's just because the N sixty four had <v Speaker 2>a C stick, you know, that's not entirely the reason, <v Speaker 2>but I guarantee that's something that they consider because they <v Speaker 2>just like doing that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's uh. <v Speaker 2>I hope that this this campus thing is maybe more <v Speaker 2>robust than we're a first assuming like sure, yeah, we <v Speaker 2>give us voice chat, give us group chats. <v Speaker 1>Twelve is maybe. <v Speaker 2>A little limited, but I mean, let's be honest, do <v Speaker 2>I need more than twelve people in any group chat? <v Speaker 2>Probablyrobably not, But you know, I want to press that <v Speaker 2>button and it's like okay, yeah, sure. There's the discord <v Speaker 2>like features, and then over here is all of the <v Speaker 2>weird stuff like street pass and things like that. I <v Speaker 2>just I hope there's just a little bit more juice <v Speaker 2>to it than just here is Nintendo's sort of diet <v Speaker 2>version of Discord, right. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I really I miss Street Pass. <v Speaker 1>I do too, Yes, I really. <v Speaker 3>I just like those stupid little games like going to <v Speaker 3>mcm cong kN in London back when it was kind <v Speaker 3>of at the height and just seeing everyone walking around <v Speaker 3>and swapping puzzle pieces, like I think the Switch really <v Speaker 3>missed out not having something as cool like that, like <v Speaker 3>that brings people together and that's and that's really what <v Speaker 3>gaming is all about. <v Speaker 1>That's I've heard them say that before. Yeah, you might <v Speaker 1>be onto something there. Yeah, it was. <v Speaker 2>It was just made again, made the whole system feel <v Speaker 2>more alive and necessary, like say, oh I gotta have <v Speaker 2>my three DS with me, I could get a street <v Speaker 2>Pass even like I did that. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I followed Reggie for me around the E three <v Speaker 3>show floor because I was determined to get History, yes I, <v Speaker 3>and I fucking didn't because there were too many people <v Speaker 3>at E three and I just get everyone else is instead. <v Speaker 3>I didn't get Reggie because you could only hold like <v Speaker 3>a certain amount, like. <v Speaker 1>Ten at a time or something like that. Yeah. <v Speaker 2>I my, Uh, the key to that was don't try <v Speaker 2>because I got Reggie, the real Reggie, not not done <v Speaker 2>one of the Nintendo son and it was at E three, <v Speaker 2>so I was probably one of the reasons you couldn't <v Speaker 2>get it. <v Speaker 1>You probably got mine instead. I was right right there. <v Speaker 3>I wonder if I did. Actually I wonder where my <v Speaker 3>three DS is. Yeah, I know, I'm getting I'm getting <v Speaker 3>I'm getting ripped for the way I said Reggie's surname. <v Speaker 3>I was both putting a bit of French on it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, sure you're allowed to do that. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I was putting some French on it. Leave me alone. <v Speaker 2>I'll just I'll just say Rgg's name again and everyone <v Speaker 2>will get mad at me instead. <v Speaker 1>So don't worry about that. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, lextrapt link in the chat. By the way, Microsoft <v Speaker 3>are doing more. <v Speaker 2>Layoffs, Microsoft are doing morefs fan sung is Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah. <v Speaker 2>I'm really feeling a certain kind of way about about <v Speaker 2>these video game companies right now, and you know, these <v Speaker 2>larger tech companies where it's just I don't really have <v Speaker 2>any faith in them to be able to revive the <v Speaker 2>current like video games are in a lull or not. <v Speaker 2>It's not necessarily a crash, but it's a crash for <v Speaker 2>the people that are getting laid off, like and really <v Speaker 2>it's because the people in charge continue to be looking <v Speaker 2>for ways to have short term gains. <v Speaker 1>And really is just like, hey, okay, we've expected a <v Speaker 1>certain amount of growth. <v Speaker 2>We did not get that growth, So God, what can <v Speaker 2>we do to like just make it look like we <v Speaker 2>had growth. <v Speaker 1>It is job cuts, so they had to pay. <v Speaker 2>Less money now, and that is a short, short term <v Speaker 2>sort of like look of like, hey, okay, we're going <v Speaker 2>to present this tour investors. We made this amount of <v Speaker 2>money and that looks like it's the line is going <v Speaker 2>up into the right. <v Speaker 1>But the growth that they were searching for still isn't. <v Speaker 4>There. <v Speaker 2>Fewer people to make games will make it harder to <v Speaker 2>find that growth, and so it's like they're just panicking <v Speaker 2>and putting themselves in a worse position and hoping that <v Speaker 2>just something. I think they're just hoping something happens. I <v Speaker 2>think there was a time from twenty eleven to twenty <v Speaker 2>twenty one where it was mobile gaming, free to play, <v Speaker 2>battle passes, battle Royale, all these things, one h yes, <v Speaker 2>one thing after another happened that they could just make <v Speaker 2>more money than they've ever made before. And a lot <v Speaker 2>of that stuff didn't come from a company like Microsoft. <v Speaker 1>Or Sony or Nintendo or even like Activision. <v Speaker 2>Or even EA, Like they were like they saw what <v Speaker 2>was happening on mobile, they applied it to their games <v Speaker 2>and they made a lot of money. Or they saw <v Speaker 2>you know, pubg and like we're gonna make a Battle Royale. <v Speaker 2>And it was just unending growth for them for a <v Speaker 2>decade straight that doesn't normally happen, and they just expected <v Speaker 2>that to keep going. And there is no like obvious <v Speaker 2>next thing for them to go to, which is something <v Speaker 2>I always say on the show, but it's like, that's <v Speaker 2>that's what I'm talking about. There was all these things <v Speaker 2>that they could go to next to make a lot <v Speaker 2>of money, and it's it's all kind of gone up <v Speaker 2>and smoke there, And so they're like, Okay, what can <v Speaker 2>we do next? And they're just what they're doing is <v Speaker 2>they're hoping some weirdo on Steam is going to put <v Speaker 2>out the next early access game that takes over the <v Speaker 2>world so they can copy that, put that in their <v Speaker 2>games and find the next big growth. <v Speaker 1>And that is not a. <v Speaker 2>Recipe for long term success in video games. So yeah, <v Speaker 2>the Microsoft continue being the awful capitalist company that you are, <v Speaker 2>and hopefully video games can survive without companies like that <v Speaker 2>in the future. All right, let's kind of get through <v Speaker 2>this other Nintendo news. Nintendo switch to it will have <v Speaker 2>about two terra flops one point seven ish and a <v Speaker 2>clock speed well that'll vary depending whether you have a <v Speaker 2>doct or not. This is from Nintendo everything. There's some <v Speaker 2>new tech specs that have leaked. Maybe again a grain <v Speaker 2>of salt, there's maybe we at this information tomorrow. I <v Speaker 2>don't know if Nintendo's actually going to put this information <v Speaker 2>out at when they're just putting out their initial reveal. <v Speaker 1>Video, but we'll see. Again. <v Speaker 2>This has been supposedly a data mind out of some <v Speaker 2>SDK stuff and OS stuff, but the power profiles for <v Speaker 2>the handheld. Basically, it's going to have a GPU clocked <v Speaker 2>at five hundred, six hundred, five hundred and sixty one <v Speaker 2>mega hurts, and then if you put it in the dock, <v Speaker 2>it'll be it'll double, it'll almost double to. <v Speaker 1>About one thousand mega hurts. <v Speaker 2>Quick version of this is people are kind of calculating <v Speaker 2>it and saying, oh, that's going to be I mean, <v Speaker 2>it's going to be about one point seven terraflops when <v Speaker 2>it's plugged in, and that means it's about a quarter <v Speaker 2>of the power of a thirty sixty. And it's just <v Speaker 2>I don't know why people keep doing this, why people <v Speaker 2>keep trying to make these comparisons from terraflop to terraflop <v Speaker 2>because it's so difficult to do. All these chips are <v Speaker 2>going to have so much custom stuff in there, especially <v Speaker 2>one going into a Nintendo console, that it's just actually <v Speaker 2>not valuable to compare terraflops to tears. But people keep <v Speaker 2>doing this either way though, It's like, okay, if you <v Speaker 2>want to, like, like, sure, the PS four Pro had <v Speaker 2>like four tarra flops, so this is half the power <v Speaker 2>of a PS four Pro. And again it's just it's <v Speaker 2>just not that easy. So these are the numbers going around. <v Speaker 2>This is causing some consternation, Lucy for people who are like, <v Speaker 2>this is the new Nintendo console? Is it going to suck? <v Speaker 2>And it's like, is this your first time? Is this <v Speaker 2>your first rodeo? How do you not know that? This <v Speaker 2>is kind of Nintendo's thing of come in with a <v Speaker 2>system that is affordable to make, has enough power to <v Speaker 2>do the games they want to make, and if other <v Speaker 2>people want to come on the console, they're welcome to. <v Speaker 1>But Nintendo doesn't care. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I I'm at the I'm at the point with <v Speaker 3>the switch to stuff where okay, like there's a bell <v Speaker 3>curve right of not interested, happy with switch interested in <v Speaker 3>new console, interest in you can in new console peak interest. <v Speaker 3>And then the rumors hit me over the edge and <v Speaker 3>I just it's diminishing returns and I just don't care <v Speaker 3>as much anymore. And this is the kind of stuff <v Speaker 3>that I don't care about because for me, the console <v Speaker 3>is a means to play a game games, and the <v Speaker 3>games are what I'm excited for. And if the rumors <v Speaker 3>is to be believed and what we'll see tomorrow is <v Speaker 3>just gonna be all console, that's great. I just want <v Speaker 3>to see what it looks like. I just want to <v Speaker 3>see the form factor, you know. But realistically, I am <v Speaker 3>not going to put this under my TV, boot it <v Speaker 3>up and just look at the box, look at the <v Speaker 3>console itself. You know, that's not what I'm doing. I'm <v Speaker 3>not going to be benchmarking. I'm not going to be <v Speaker 3>you know, I'm not digital foundry. I'm not comparing frames <v Speaker 3>and like doing the technical analysis. Yeah it's cool to <v Speaker 3>know that stuff, but I really at this point, I <v Speaker 3>just want to know what I'm going to be. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's and I think that you feel that way <v Speaker 2>because that is correct and Nintendo knows that, and that's <v Speaker 2>why they won't be talking about this kind of information. <v Speaker 1>When they reveal the system, it will. <v Speaker 2>Be here's what it looks like, here's what it can do, <v Speaker 2>and here's a little glimpse of some games. Come back <v Speaker 2>in February when we talk about the real shit that <v Speaker 2>you care about, which will be the games you can't <v Speaker 2>get anywhere else. <v Speaker 1>And you know, the. <v Speaker 2>Switch one was an underpowered tablet from twenty fifteen that <v Speaker 2>came out in twenty seventeen and we still have it <v Speaker 2>ten years later, ten year old mobile chip. And you know, <v Speaker 2>then I went, I was at Awesome Games Done Quick, <v Speaker 2>watching the Tiers of the Kingdom Speed Run, and I <v Speaker 2>was just like, man, ten year old mobile processor, look <v Speaker 2>at this game. <v Speaker 1>I I it is, oh, hey, Kitty Kat, and it's <v Speaker 1>so it's like, of course, that's what's going to matter. <v Speaker 1>And at the same. <v Speaker 2>Time, this is you know, this is the puddle news, right, <v Speaker 2>this is people fixate puddle news. <v Speaker 3>Oh my god, that is such a great way to <v Speaker 3>describe it. <v Speaker 1>Yes, puddle news. <v Speaker 2>People before they're looking forward to something so much, but <v Speaker 2>their anxieties get the best of them and they fixate <v Speaker 2>on anything that might sound like this is not. <v Speaker 1>Going to live up to their hopes. That was what happened. <v Speaker 2>That's the Puddles and Spider Man, and it happens to everything, <v Speaker 2>And that's what this is right now, is people are <v Speaker 2>like fixating on a number that does that at the <v Speaker 2>end of the day will be meaningless because it's going <v Speaker 2>to come down to how much time people spend on <v Speaker 2>their games. So they put on the switch to and <v Speaker 2>then there will be a few outliers that are that <v Speaker 2>need a lot of power that might struggle. But we <v Speaker 2>did know that that was going to be the case <v Speaker 2>from the beginning with any game coming to the switch to, <v Speaker 2>because it's the case with the Steam Deck and the <v Speaker 2>Ally and all these other things that are PC and <v Speaker 2>have had a lot more power than the switch one, <v Speaker 2>So why would it be any different. There's a world <v Speaker 2>where the forty ninety exists at at the same time <v Speaker 2>as this thing, so it's like there was always going <v Speaker 2>to be games that were too powerful for it. So yeah, <v Speaker 2>I just think that people will forget about these anxieties <v Speaker 2>the second that they have the thing in their hands <v Speaker 2>and they're playing the games. <v Speaker 1>That's how it always goes. <v Speaker 3>Question, how is GDQ? <v Speaker 1>It was awesome, It was so much fun. It was <v Speaker 1>so much fun. <v Speaker 2>First of all, it's like I just drove the MIC's <v Speaker 2>house and then it was like a fifty minute drive <v Speaker 2>from his house, so very convenient. <v Speaker 3>Yes, did you see the elden Ring stuff? <v Speaker 1>Didn't see the elden Ring stuff? <v Speaker 2>We went on Uh We went on Thursday and got <v Speaker 2>there and they were doing Mario Luigi Planartner's in Time <v Speaker 2>run and we watched a little bit of that. <v Speaker 1>Went down to the arcade. <v Speaker 2>I did one of those popping music the big circular <v Speaker 2>washing machine music machines from Japan. <v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, I got to do that. <v Speaker 2>That was a lot of fun. And then sat down <v Speaker 2>for the entire tiers of the Kingdom run. Really enjoyed that. <v Speaker 1>Watched quite a bit of Liza p and then we <v Speaker 1>had a depth. <v Speaker 3>One of my favorite runners was on the couch of <v Speaker 3>that one. I was watching it yesterday Metritz. <v Speaker 2>Yes, And I think the thing is everyone's just so <v Speaker 2>nice and competent and responsible for this taking care of <v Speaker 2>the spirit of this show. <v Speaker 1>You just feel that everywhere you look. <v Speaker 2>Everyone knows like, hey, the vibes are immaculate, and it's <v Speaker 2>our responsibility to keep it that way. <v Speaker 1>So it was a joy. <v Speaker 3>Did you see some of my favorite runs ever were <v Speaker 3>this year, like the new Super Mario Brothers We with <v Speaker 3>the Piano. Do you see that one? <v Speaker 1>I guess I did. I watched that one and that <v Speaker 1>was amazing as well. <v Speaker 3>And then there was a really good bingo match with <v Speaker 3>elden Ring before the Doctor Doute Saxophone elden Ring thing. <v Speaker 1>Ah, so good. <v Speaker 3>I want to go. May I go to Summer Games <v Speaker 3>time quick? <v Speaker 2>I mean you should because we can hang out with <v Speaker 2>Dan and go stay at dance house and they just <v Speaker 2>go from there. <v Speaker 3>Oh my god, Yes, yes, get dad, I'm gonna go <v Speaker 3>hang out with Bunk there. <v Speaker 1>Of course. <v Speaker 2>Of course, good head coach with that, saying all right, <v Speaker 2>let's keep moving here. Retro Studios staff names removed from <v Speaker 2>end credits in Donkey Kong Country HD is just remind <v Speaker 2>Nintendo News the story is the headline Nintendo's done this <v Speaker 2>before they are doing it again. Basically, you finish the <v Speaker 2>game and it says based on the works of Retro Studios, <v Speaker 2>and then here's the list of the people that worked <v Speaker 2>on this remaster. It's kind of going, especially going in <v Speaker 2>this case, Lucy, because this is a straight up port. <v Speaker 1>Of the Wei game. <v Speaker 2>There's just not a lot of other stuff happening in <v Speaker 2>this thing. It is just that game again, So where <v Speaker 2>does any and get off not crediting the people who <v Speaker 2>actually made this game. But this is a problem in <v Speaker 2>video games. <v Speaker 3>Right, Yeah, it sucks. I believe this absolutely should be standardized, <v Speaker 3>Like if you work on the game, you're in the credits. <v Speaker 3>Oh what was I playing kind of recently? Oh, dragon Age. <v Speaker 3>Dragon Age listed everyone like and that game, at least <v Speaker 3>I believe it was everyone like they definitely remember watching <v Speaker 3>the credits and stuff, had like formally like former on <v Speaker 3>that and it's just like it's so hard. But the <v Speaker 3>thing is that I know this from talking to devs. <v Speaker 3>Crediting is actually very political. <v Speaker 2>Oh sure, yes, and so in everything, which is why <v Speaker 2>there's like rules to it in Hollywood so they can <v Speaker 2>avoid that as much as possible. It's still very much <v Speaker 2>is political at that point. <v Speaker 3>Yes, Oh, I know someone who was technically like art director, <v Speaker 3>but they left before the project shipped, and so they <v Speaker 3>got put as like concept artist or like associate or something. <v Speaker 3>It's just like, that's not what the that's not what <v Speaker 3>they did on Thenking, Okay, yeah it sucks. I like <v Speaker 3>even even we had an issue for a long time <v Speaker 3>here where like we didn't have credits on videos and <v Speaker 3>this actually changed a few years ago, and I'm really <v Speaker 3>happy that we did that, because you know, you work <v Speaker 3>on something, and I am not saying that working on <v Speaker 3>a video is anywhere near the same life of project <v Speaker 3>like labor is labor, but like you would put stuff <v Speaker 3>out and it would go out into the ether, and <v Speaker 3>if you were the host or the voiceover, like you <v Speaker 3>would be you're in there right, like you have a <v Speaker 3>lower third. But then at the end, we just wouldn't <v Speaker 3>have any end credits. And so, like Jan saying, it, <v Speaker 3>not credit in half the shows you worked on. And <v Speaker 3>that's the thing when you're working in entertainment, where your <v Speaker 3>credit is what gives you access to unions. But also, <v Speaker 3>like you know, if you're putting a resume out, if <v Speaker 3>you're putting an IMDb page out, like how can you <v Speaker 3>prove that you're in there if you're not in a <v Speaker 3>credit And also, as someone who's just undergone a bunch <v Speaker 3>of shitty visa things, like me having to prove I <v Speaker 3>had to print out like a boomer pictures of video <v Speaker 3>like screenshots from videos that prove that I AM credits <v Speaker 3>are so fucking important. And it is baffling to me <v Speaker 3>that in this the year of Luigi twenty twenty five, <v Speaker 3>also saying we should bring back Luigi. Yes, well yeah, <v Speaker 3>well that's the it's a it's a double use. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>it baffles me that we are still not sanitized. <v Speaker 2>I think this is what's like so frustrating is that <v Speaker 2>we do look at like, hey, Microsoft just laid off <v Speaker 2>a bunch of people, right that we talked about that earlier, <v Speaker 2>and in my head to go, yeah, that is Milton <v Speaker 2>Freeman capitalism of growing any cost within the rules and <v Speaker 2>laying people office within the rules. <v Speaker 1>So they're going to do it. And then we're like <v Speaker 1>and then. <v Speaker 2>I'm like, well, you know, Nintendo's kind of that old <v Speaker 2>capitalist at Adam Smith capitalism, so it's like maybe a <v Speaker 2>little bit better, and you know they they try to <v Speaker 2>grow by. <v Speaker 3>Innovatives, makes from Larry. Then I was like, what. <v Speaker 2>Adam Smith the founder of capitalism, but also also we <v Speaker 2>were out of joicet Larian now crazy Yeah, but it's like, no, <v Speaker 2>This is what people actually hate because it's like, deep down, <v Speaker 2>it's all going to lead to the same sort of <v Speaker 2>rot that causes these companies to overlook the human beings <v Speaker 2>making this stuff, and it's why it all gets lumped together, <v Speaker 2>and rightfully so in most cases. <v Speaker 1>Uh, this this sucks. <v Speaker 2>We've been criticizing Nintendo for doing this for a few <v Speaker 2>years now because they've done this repeatedly over the last <v Speaker 2>couple of years. And I think my hope was that, <v Speaker 2>you know that criticism will lead to some change in <v Speaker 2>the future, Nintendo will hear this and they will just <v Speaker 2>quietly make some changes. And now it's like, oh no, <v Speaker 2>They're continue to do it. In some ways, this is <v Speaker 2>where a worst case than ever. So yeah, it's frustrating. <v Speaker 2>They need to recognize how important credits are to people <v Speaker 2>and to the people actually making the game, whom you <v Speaker 2>could not have a business without, and yet they still <v Speaker 2>do this over and over. So yep, Nintendo just as <v Speaker 2>bad in many ways. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's take a quick break. <v Speaker 2>When we come back, let's talk about Ubisoft's crazy plans <v Speaker 2>to keep the gemos in charge while surviving, so we'll <v Speaker 2>be right back after this. All right, let's let's try <v Speaker 2>to suss through this one. You be Soft in Tenset <v Speaker 2>could create a quote new venture as part of major change. <v Speaker 2>This comes from Eddie McCoo at GameSpot. A new report <v Speaker 2>may contained fresh clues about the apparent partnership between you <v Speaker 2>be Soft and Tencent. Ubisoft's fortunes continue to slide and <v Speaker 2>the company looks. <v Speaker 1>For a way forward. <v Speaker 2>Bloomberg reported that you be Soft and Tencent are considering <v Speaker 2>excuse me sorry, hit my mic and Tencent are considering, <v Speaker 2>among other options, creating a new venture that could include <v Speaker 2>certain Ubisoft assets. The overall aim is to improve the <v Speaker 2>company's value, Sources said. The two companies are now evaluating <v Speaker 2>which assets to include in a new entity and their valuation, <v Speaker 2>the report said, citing anonymous sources. Should a deal come together, <v Speaker 2>ten Cent could gain more control over some of Ubisoft's franchises, <v Speaker 2>the report said, adding that ten Sent would also benefit <v Speaker 2>from improving its own business the results outside of China. <v Speaker 2>Sources told Bloomberg that no final decision has been made <v Speaker 2>and that conversations remain ongoing. None of this should be surprising, either, <v Speaker 2>as Ubisoft set on January ninth that it had pointed <v Speaker 2>advisors to examine opportunities for Ubisoft to maximize its value <v Speaker 2>and maximize the value of its company through a variety <v Speaker 2>of possible business maneuvers and a conference call. Though Ubisoft <v Speaker 2>declined to comment on the reported Tencent discussions, which dated <v Speaker 2>back many months, a spokesperson pretend Cent decline to comment. <v Speaker 2>During a conference call, CEO Usgimo said he sees several <v Speaker 2>potential paths for the company in its franchises going forward <v Speaker 2>to maximize shareholder value. <v Speaker 3>I believe it to maximize shareholder value. <v Speaker 1>Oh boy, it's one of one of. <v Speaker 3>My favorite things to do, sleeping, eating. <v Speaker 1>Maximize top three for sure. Uh. This is like setting <v Speaker 1>off alarm belts for me, though. <v Speaker 3>This is oh no, this is terrible. <v Speaker 2>This sounds like a crazy proposition, right of a new <v Speaker 2>entity that would what leave the rest of Ubisoft behind <v Speaker 2>and all of those thousands and thousands of employees so <v Speaker 2>that a few could go over to this new entity <v Speaker 2>and work on what Assassin's creed over there, and maybe <v Speaker 2>Rainbow six and everything else gets far cry. <v Speaker 3>This is yeah, the OC, This is Ubisoft OC. That's <v Speaker 3>the code name for this ship. Call it Ubisoft OC. <v Speaker 3>Because those people will be safe. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 3>Uh and then everyone else is just just gets left <v Speaker 3>it down. <v Speaker 2>It feels like a really shitty capitalist maneuver to lay <v Speaker 2>off a bunch of people without actually. <v Speaker 1>Laying them off, right, So I. <v Speaker 2>Go, well, you know, we'll leave them behind and let <v Speaker 2>them you know, they can have Rayman still good. <v Speaker 1>Luck as Wait what are you talking about? <v Speaker 2>This is crazy. This is like like almost a worst <v Speaker 2>case scenario for what could happen to the future of <v Speaker 2>you be soft. But really this is happening because the <v Speaker 2>Guimo family wants to stay in charge. There are ways <v Speaker 2>to deal with this that would be a lot more <v Speaker 2>equitable for the people working at Ubisoft. It would involve okay, <v Speaker 2>new leadership. The Gimo family steps away, Eves goes and retires, <v Speaker 2>fuck off, betch we don't want to see you anymore. <v Speaker 2>And then then someone else comes to charge and had <v Speaker 2>like that makes probably some major cuts and comes in <v Speaker 2>there as kind of brutal in some ways, but would <v Speaker 2>try to save as much of the company as possible <v Speaker 2>and as much of the value as possible and get <v Speaker 2>it back towards growth. But the Gamo family does not <v Speaker 2>want to give up any of what it controls here, <v Speaker 2>and so they have to come up with these weird <v Speaker 2>maneuvers to find a way to keep that power, and <v Speaker 2>it sucks. <v Speaker 1>This is so weird, it's so weird. <v Speaker 5>It's it's so weird to think about it, especially when <v Speaker 5>you consider Ubisoft from ten years ago, Yeah, which was <v Speaker 5>on top of the world, like couldn't put a foot wrong, <v Speaker 5>hit after hit, banger after banger, and then now just <v Speaker 5>seeing this like trend chasing, like scrambling from this company <v Speaker 5>that had all this potential, had all of these hits, <v Speaker 5>and like I'm sure we're going to. <v Speaker 3>Talk about, you know, remastering Black Flag. It appeared on <v Speaker 3>someone's LinkedIn today. That just feels like a weird move, <v Speaker 3>like continuing with their NFT game again, trend chasing. I <v Speaker 3>just like, if you talk about bloated in terms of <v Speaker 3>the amount of the sheer amount of people who work <v Speaker 3>on these games, Ubosoft has always been this weird one <v Speaker 3>where they've just had like twenty seven support studios on <v Speaker 3>one game. <v Speaker 1>Yep. It's I mean, it's always been a. <v Speaker 2>Sprawling operation, one that at one time in the early <v Speaker 2>twenty tens was definitely impressive because, as you said, the <v Speaker 2>hit after hit and they were like the one company <v Speaker 2>that could reliably put out big open world games, and <v Speaker 2>oftentimes the one was better than the one before it, and. <v Speaker 1>That was impressive. <v Speaker 2>And then it's like they just kept going in that <v Speaker 2>direction and not really seeing that they could ever hit <v Speaker 2>a wall. <v Speaker 1>And then as soon as they kind of hit some. <v Speaker 2>Speed bumps, it all started to come apart, and now <v Speaker 2>they are fully running into the wall. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's like what you have, Like, you have the <v Speaker 3>skull Bums remake, Oh god, the Black Flag remake. You've <v Speaker 3>got Assassin's Creed, You've got Able to Splinter Cell remake, <v Speaker 3>Prince of Persia remake. <v Speaker 1>There's probably a new far Cry coming soon. <v Speaker 3>There is a new far Cry. There's ray Man that <v Speaker 3>they're working on. So it's like they are revisiting these <v Speaker 3>old beloved franchises. But yeah, like Rainbow six is still going. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think that their their problem is like Rainbow <v Speaker 2>six is still going. Whenever they try to do anything <v Speaker 2>else with Rainbow six right now, it's not it's it's <v Speaker 2>completely missing. They are trying to do stuff with Tom <v Speaker 2>Klant see stuff beyond Rainbow six. They put out X Defiant. <v Speaker 2>They have closed down X Defiant. Yeah, they are Their <v Speaker 2>misses are bigger than ever, and that's true for a <v Speaker 2>lot of Division three ye Division work. Yep, they you know, <v Speaker 2>and they did some you know, the licensed IP stuff <v Speaker 2>and none of that really hit Avatar and Star Wars <v Speaker 2>didn't really work for them. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>So so yeah, it's it's tough. <v Speaker 2>It's tough sledding because I think a lot of gamers <v Speaker 2>are just in a place where they don't want what <v Speaker 2>UBI soft is selling right now a little bit and <v Speaker 2>they kind of need just a little bit more from <v Speaker 2>that company. And the company doesn't have the capacity to <v Speaker 2>uh make these massive games and feel like they can <v Speaker 2>then have space to innovate. So yeah, uh. <v Speaker 1>I don't know what the answer is for the company, <v Speaker 1>but I know I. <v Speaker 3>Know Assassin's Creed needs to hit. <v Speaker 2>Oh my god, Yes, absolutely that that is unquestionable. <v Speaker 1>But as far as like, is this. <v Speaker 3>Strike another delay? <v Speaker 1>What's that? <v Speaker 3>Do you see another delay or they have to get <v Speaker 3>it out of this financial. <v Speaker 2>I mean I could see another delay, but that would <v Speaker 2>be a little bit more catastrophic because yeah, there's a <v Speaker 2>reason it was delayed to March twentieth, right like one <v Speaker 2>of the final weeks before the end of the fiscal year. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>so I think they I think they'll get it out <v Speaker 2>and whatever whatever situation it's in. Yeah, as you mentioned, <v Speaker 2>Assassin's Creed Black Flag Black Flag remake will be more <v Speaker 2>than a visual upgrade New Systems mentioned. This is from <v Speaker 2>James Laura at MP First or Multiplayer First. Last year, <v Speaker 2>we reported how you Besoft confirmed that they are working <v Speaker 2>on multiple Assassin's Creed remakes. One of these remakes is <v Speaker 2>said to be Assassin's Creed Black Flag. While the publisher <v Speaker 2>has not officially announced the title, it seems the rumor <v Speaker 2>is real and we have the first info about it. <v Speaker 2>Based on themation we've collected, this will be more than <v Speaker 2>just a visual upgrade. Gameplay mechanics and elements have also <v Speaker 2>been upgraded. Last year, UBI Soft CEO us Gimo wrote <v Speaker 2>a lengthy blog post detailing the company's upcoming portfolio and <v Speaker 2>the future of Assassin's Creed franchise. One of the comments <v Speaker 2>that stood out was that fans could look forward to <v Speaker 2>remakes that would follow that would allow players to revisit <v Speaker 2>past locations, only with them modernized touch. As you mentioned, <v Speaker 2>this was someone had their LinkedIn. It's a game designer <v Speaker 2>had the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake twenty twenty four <v Speaker 2>listed on their LinkedIn that is probably going to come <v Speaker 2>out this year now, although they. <v Speaker 3>Won't this person. This person also heard the eldest Scrolls <v Speaker 3>Oblivion remake on this yep. <v Speaker 1>Which we also are expecting this year. So there you go. <v Speaker 3>Oh my god, mate, Yeah, that's trolling guys. <v Speaker 2>Uh, that's good stuff. Yeah, it's it's this is expect <v Speaker 2>they'll probably give it some time after Shadows. So if <v Speaker 2>it does come out this year and probably be holiday <v Speaker 2>this year, I think that's that makes some sense. There <v Speaker 2>are a few more details here for the small juicy <v Speaker 2>bits of information. As listed in the project's description, the <v Speaker 2>Assassin's Creed Black Flaggery make will feature new systems, with <v Speaker 2>combat and ecosystems around wildlife specifically mentioned. There's not much <v Speaker 2>else to mention beyond the team hoping that these new <v Speaker 2>systems will make the classic in outstanding game to rebirth <v Speaker 2>as the next Gin Triple A game. It's a weird <v Speaker 2>way of putting it, yes, and as mentioned, Insider Gaming <v Speaker 2>previously reported that the title could be released in November <v Speaker 2>of twenty twenty five. People are expecting it way later. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, sounds like this is going to be a <v Speaker 2>holiday game this year. So yeah, I like Black Flag <v Speaker 2>a lot. I still occasionally get in the mood for <v Speaker 2>Assassin's Creed game. And at this point there's gonna be <v Speaker 2>a lot of people who are playing games that never <v Speaker 2>played this, So I think this is a fine idea, <v Speaker 2>But we make. <v Speaker 3>Syndic cowards, right, that's get rocked. Oh my god, I loved. <v Speaker 3>And then the Jack the Ripper DLC. We've definitely talked <v Speaker 3>about this before, but like so good. Although last time <v Speaker 3>I was in London I went to the Jack the <v Speaker 3>Ripper Museum and that was terrible. <v Speaker 2>Because it was a very affecting and negative way. Or <v Speaker 2>they just had a bad display. You weren't satisfying with <v Speaker 2>the display of his murders. <v Speaker 3>Well, the thing is is that they had something they <v Speaker 3>had the from Hell Letter and I use quotation marks <v Speaker 3>is because they had literally they billed it as the <v Speaker 3>from Hell Letter and then they just printed it out <v Speaker 3>and tea stained it and like, oh okay, flamed the edue. <v Speaker 3>The entire display was like that. And then the basement <v Speaker 3>they made a morgue, which I found a little bit distasteful. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I can imagine that. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, and they had pictures of the victims and yeah, yeah, <v Speaker 3>it wasn't great. <v Speaker 2>I mean, you know, in terms of distaste museums in <v Speaker 2>England though, that's guy, does that even rank? <v Speaker 3>Come on, distasteful museums? <v Speaker 1>Do we have. <v Speaker 3>Artifacts? I was gonna say, the ones of all the <v Speaker 3>things that we stole from various nations over there? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's a little distasteful. But who who among us? <v Speaker 1>You're right? <v Speaker 3>Who's okay? America? <v Speaker 1>Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Look, look, yes, this is the entire country's stolen museum. <v Speaker 2>Come on, all right, let's keep going here. Nintendo lawyer <v Speaker 2>explains why it's been taking down emulators. This is from <v Speaker 2>Chris Scullion, f VGC, a senior lawyer at Nintendo, has <v Speaker 2>given an explanation of what makes an emulator illegal. I <v Speaker 2>don't think they get to decide that, but whatever, particularly <v Speaker 2>when it comes to most recent releases, As reported by <v Speaker 2>Den Famacona Co Gamer, Well yeah, I'm sorry. A recent <v Speaker 2>lecture hosted by Japan's Associate of Copyright for Computer Software <v Speaker 2>was attended by Nintendo's patent attorney and IPE department General manager, <v Speaker 2>Kogi nisher Ura. While the lecture, which also included contributions <v Speaker 2>from IP executives at Sega, Capcom and Konami, among others, <v Speaker 2>focused on a number of topics. One of these was <v Speaker 2>the issue of emulation. Nishe Urra explained that while emulators <v Speaker 2>themselves aren't illegal by definition, they can become illegal if <v Speaker 2>they operate in a way that infringes on a company's rights. <v Speaker 2>To begin with, this is a quote, are emulators illegal <v Speaker 2>or not? Nishira asked, as translated by Automaton, this is <v Speaker 2>a point often debated. While you can't immediately claim that <v Speaker 2>an emulator is illegal in itself, it can become illegal <v Speaker 2>depending on. <v Speaker 1>How it's used. <v Speaker 2>He went on to give a couple of examples that <v Speaker 2>while an emulator that imitates a game device may be <v Speaker 2>legal on paper, if the emulator also copies a program <v Speaker 2>belonging to that device, that can constitute copyright infringement. We <v Speaker 2>had that with the case of I think it was Simu, <v Speaker 2>the WEU emulator that had some stuff that was copyrighted, <v Speaker 2>and that caused some problems for that. <v Speaker 3>Nishear ad, this is this is the that's the re <v Speaker 3>I remember when I had It's not illegal to go <v Speaker 3>on the pirate Bay. It's not illegal to have LimeWire, <v Speaker 3>it's just illegal to use it. So it's fine that <v Speaker 3>it's on my PC. <v Speaker 2>Yes it's and it's not illegal to like have it, <v Speaker 2>it's just illegal to transmit it. So once I have, <v Speaker 2>I mean, who knows how I got it, but I <v Speaker 2>just I have it now and I own a physical <v Speaker 2>copy of this of this ROM so this is just <v Speaker 2>a backup. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, yeah. <v Speaker 2>Nischer added that if the emulator also disabled security measures <v Speaker 2>like encryption, that could also be considered illegal. He said <v Speaker 2>that courts for other counts. That counts for other method <v Speaker 2>methods such as flash carts, citing the use of the <v Speaker 2>Nintendo DS flash carts such as the R four, which <v Speaker 2>bypassed security by imitating a legitimate DS game. He pointed <v Speaker 2>out that Nintendo and more than fifty other software manufacturers <v Speaker 2>filed a joint lawsuit against the sellers of flash carts <v Speaker 2>and one of ruling that they were in violation of <v Speaker 2>Japan's Unfair Competition Prevention Act and another example of what <v Speaker 2>makes an emulator illegal. Niche Era noted that if an <v Speaker 2>emulators to resources where that paired games can be downloaded, <v Speaker 2>this is also considered copyright infringement. So I mean Nintendo's <v Speaker 2>out there saying like kind of what we've been wondering <v Speaker 2>and expecting and and suspecting for a while that Nintendo <v Speaker 2>is looking for any angle by which they can go <v Speaker 2>after these. These were emulators, which usually does not mean <v Speaker 2>the emulator itself is a problem, but if it does <v Speaker 2>one of a couple of things, then they will use <v Speaker 2>that against it, which they have recently done against Switch <v Speaker 2>emulators Yuzuo and ryu Jinks, although ryu Jinks was the <v Speaker 2>more interesting case because that was one that seemingly was <v Speaker 2>on the up and up in all of these accounts <v Speaker 2>where it's like they weren't linking to rams. They it <v Speaker 2>did not copyright or use any thing that was copyrighted <v Speaker 2>within the switch os it was and everything was done <v Speaker 2>in a clean room. <v Speaker 1>It was good. This is a good emulator. <v Speaker 2>But Nintendo went to them and made a deal with <v Speaker 2>them to get them to take it down and stop <v Speaker 2>doing it. And it's like they kind of went in <v Speaker 2>there and still found another way that they probably did <v Speaker 2>not involve necessarily any specific legal threat beyond like we <v Speaker 2>have our eye on you, and we have a lot <v Speaker 2>of high paid lawyers, so we could still make your <v Speaker 2>life hell. And I think Nintendo is just kind of <v Speaker 2>flexing their muscles with that so it's like, yeah, sure, <v Speaker 2>these are the reasons the emulator might be illegal in <v Speaker 2>Nintendo's eyes, but that has not stop them from taking <v Speaker 2>other emulators down as well, And that's kind of what <v Speaker 2>we're expecting from them at this point. Emulation is something <v Speaker 2>that's like definitely like important for preservation. We talk about <v Speaker 2>that all the time. Companies like Nintendo use emulators. They <v Speaker 2>want this work to be done so that they can <v Speaker 2>then then themselves go in there and use that for <v Speaker 2>stuff like the Virtual console or Nintendo Switch Online. They <v Speaker 2>do make their own emulators, but having that stuff documented <v Speaker 2>about the ways to do it, I'm sure has helped <v Speaker 2>people who work in that scene. So, yeah, this is <v Speaker 2>something Nintendo being very aggressive about right now. I bet <v Speaker 2>once the switch to is out and we see what <v Speaker 2>the security is like for that thing, it's if it <v Speaker 2>holds up, I bet they calm down about this a <v Speaker 2>little bit. This definitely seems to be them prepping the <v Speaker 2>ground for switch to, right. <v Speaker 1>Can we make a bet, please? <v Speaker 3>How long you think it'll take someone to crack switch to? <v Speaker 1>Yeah? God, what do you think? <v Speaker 3>Four days? <v Speaker 1>Four days? <v Speaker 2>I think it'll get through about like six months or so, <v Speaker 2>six months and then God what is it cracking? <v Speaker 1>Like means it can run homebrew software, right, Like, that's <v Speaker 1>what we're talking. Okay, yeah, that might be pretty quick. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>that could be pretty quick. We'll see. Let's say. Okay, <v Speaker 1>so the. <v Speaker 2>Over under is four days. I'll take the over all. Right, <v Speaker 2>let's see here, okay, next, a couple of stories here <v Speaker 2>to some stuff to clean up. Lunar Remastered Collection is <v Speaker 2>launching on April eighteenth. This comes from Salamano Kamatsu. This <v Speaker 2>was someone that a lot of. <v Speaker 1>People were pretty excited about. <v Speaker 2>Figured, I just let everybody know it's coming for fifty <v Speaker 2>dollars on April eighteenth. Let's see, it will be available. <v Speaker 2>Oh that's the digital edition North America. Physical editions will <v Speaker 2>be available exclusively exclusively through Amazon for fifty five dollars. Uh, <v Speaker 2>so check that out. I know, people, there's a lot <v Speaker 2>of fans of the Lunar RPG series. I've never touched it, <v Speaker 2>but I always thought it looked pretty cool. <v Speaker 1>So shout outs to y'all. <v Speaker 3>And I've also never touched it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, people, people love these games. <v Speaker 2>And then finally, Suicide Squad's final content update has been released. <v Speaker 1>This is from tom Iban at VGC Suitside insane. <v Speaker 3>This is nuts. <v Speaker 1>Yep I yep. <v Speaker 2>Suicide Squad Killed That Justice League has received its final <v Speaker 2>significant content update develop a. Rock Steady Studios confirmed in <v Speaker 2>December that the game's current season will be its last, <v Speaker 2>and season four concluded today with a launch of season. <v Speaker 1>Four episode eight. <v Speaker 2>While season four episode eight will mark the final battle <v Speaker 2>against Brainiac, all online features will continue to be available, <v Speaker 2>so you'll still be able to enjoy co op with <v Speaker 2>friends as well as all previous seasonal episodic content. Rock <v Speaker 2>Steady explained they've also made this game work offline, right, <v Speaker 2>they did? <v Speaker 1>They did that? <v Speaker 3>Oh this was what This wasn't even the thing that <v Speaker 3>I was talking about. <v Speaker 1>Okay, what was the thing you want to know? <v Speaker 3>So in Suicide Squad Killed the Justice League, the whole <v Speaker 3>thing about killing the Justice League and Batman dying and <v Speaker 3>it's meant to be this beautiful sign off, send off <v Speaker 3>for Kevin Conroy, and everything turns out it was just <v Speaker 3>a clone. Batman is alive in the Arkham Verse. Who <v Speaker 3>would have thunk? And this is the way they delivered it, <v Speaker 3>like the very end of season four, just like a PostScript. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 2>I think it was like, we're going to give everybody <v Speaker 2>a happy ending, and it's like that is just not <v Speaker 2>the game you were making. <v Speaker 1>What is going on here? Yeah, this is a pretty <v Speaker 1>sad game all things. <v Speaker 3>It's devastating, honestly, Like especially you know, coming from the <v Speaker 3>UK rock Steady were there are still some very talented <v Speaker 3>people there who were completely hamstrung by online requirements trend <v Speaker 3>chasing games of service. But it's like, you know, rock <v Speaker 3>Steady did the unthinkable back in two thousand and nine <v Speaker 3>with Asylum, took licensed property. They made an amazing game, <v Speaker 3>the revolutionized a genre, and then you know, successful sequel, <v Speaker 3>successful sequel, dip the toe into VR, and then this <v Speaker 3>game is just a very sad again post like PostScript <v Speaker 3>on their work where it's just you know, every level <v Speaker 3>it just doesn't work. Yep, And it's just very sad. <v Speaker 3>And you know, I really hope that their legacy is <v Speaker 3>not you know, completely tainted by this one release. I <v Speaker 3>don't think it will be. I think they will forever <v Speaker 3>be the Arkham Studio. But it's just really sad because <v Speaker 3>there's so much potential for what this game could have <v Speaker 3>been if they were just allowed to cook, let developers cook. <v Speaker 2>I yeah, I think it's this game is indicative of <v Speaker 2>where games are just at right now. Like you see, <v Speaker 2>like we can see the story of how this thing <v Speaker 2>gets made, how it gets green lit, and how it <v Speaker 2>ends up being the game that it is, and all <v Speaker 2>all of that is what what makes it feel very sad. <v Speaker 2>I think the game was fine to play for the <v Speaker 2>most part, but it's problems. We're glaring and and and <v Speaker 2>and here we are. There was nothing they could kind <v Speaker 2>of do about them. At a certain point. They had <v Speaker 2>to release a video game. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, it's it's boy. <v Speaker 2>If they just made kind of another game in the <v Speaker 2>in the Asylum style or in the Arkham style, we <v Speaker 2>probably would not be here having these kinds of conversations <v Speaker 2>about this studio and wondering what its future is going <v Speaker 2>to be like. But but even even a studio like <v Speaker 2>rock Steady ends up in this situation these days. <v Speaker 1>It's kind of like how it happens. No one's immune. <v Speaker 2>Maybe there's a couple, maybe maybe rock Star's immune, but <v Speaker 2>I don't know long term are they who knows? <v Speaker 1>So yeah, this is a shame. <v Speaker 2>I hope that they're able to rebound and get something, <v Speaker 2>but they they're under Warner Brothers. So do we have <v Speaker 2>a lot of faith in them being able to do that. <v Speaker 1>I don't know. <v Speaker 2>All right, let's get to the poll question from earlier <v Speaker 2>this week. I got it right here, ready to go? <v Speaker 2>Is switch to getting revealed this week? People are starting <v Speaker 2>to believe. Fifty percent say yes, forty one percent say no. <v Speaker 2>I don't blame a lot of people from for still <v Speaker 2>being skeptical. It would be very funny at this point, Lucy, <v Speaker 2>if it didn't get announced every day. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, we're doing like we're doing FPS tonight, and I <v Speaker 3>was like, should we move recording? But then I don't know. <v Speaker 3>I guess we'll find out late today if we do <v Speaker 3>need to remove recordings. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 2>Uh so yeah, people are starting to believe. I still <v Speaker 2>think so you could see I voted yes here, so <v Speaker 2>no for sure? Oh yeah, people wanted me. Balder's Gate <v Speaker 2>three passes major mod milestone, one hundred million mods were downloaded, <v Speaker 2>so they added Big Naturals to Withers with hell yeah <v Speaker 2>to the Withers. <v Speaker 1>So there you go. That's our second Big Naturals mod <v Speaker 1>story in two weeks. We did Bilatro last week. So uh, <v Speaker 1>there you go, everybody. <v Speaker 2>All right, new pole question here in a second, before <v Speaker 2>we get to that Lucy James Games, where can people <v Speaker 2>find you on the internet? <v Speaker 1>What do you have going on? All that good stuff? <v Speaker 3>And me at Loose James Games everywhere, I am battling <v Speaker 3>with my inbox because I basically ignored it for most <v Speaker 3>of December. And what am I doing. We are recording <v Speaker 3>Jeff Jeff's in a couple of weeks, prepping for that, <v Speaker 3>setting up a new office in the studio, and then <v Speaker 3>I have to move house. What's great is that I <v Speaker 3>have the keys to this place, so I can like <v Speaker 3>pop in good, set stuff up and then just move. Yeah. <v Speaker 3>And then we're doing like a bunch of like working <v Speaker 3>on new shows and stuff meetings about that and uh <v Speaker 3>be around also play the root trees are dead if <v Speaker 3>you haven't. Yes, an ober Din like, but it has <v Speaker 3>a bunch of stuff stuff unique stuff of all of <v Speaker 3>its own. <v Speaker 1>Yep. Yes, someone I just mentioned I meant to bring <v Speaker 1>bring up the lineup for EVO Real Quick. <v Speaker 2>Street Fighter six Tech and eight Fatal for Fury, City <v Speaker 2>of the Wolves, Guilty Gear, Strive, Grand Blue Fantasy versus <v Speaker 2>Rising Undernight in Birth to Cis Celeste. <v Speaker 1>However, you want to say. <v Speaker 2>That more Kombat one in Marvel versus Capcom two. They <v Speaker 2>also have an extended lineup that includes Rivals of eighth <v Speaker 2>or two, Virtual Fighter five, Revo, King of Fighters, fifteen, <v Speaker 2>Blaze Blue, Centralification or Central Ficial Central Fiction. <v Speaker 1>I think it's actually you. <v Speaker 2>Say that Killer Instinct a question mark for the last <v Speaker 2>three that will all be revealed on February fifteenth. <v Speaker 1>So exciting stuff happening over at EVO and lovely. <v Speaker 2>Uh yeah, I would like to go to that at <v Speaker 2>some point. We'll see maybe maybe this is the year. <v Speaker 2>All right, cool, let's see here final pull question or <v Speaker 2>the next pole question. <v Speaker 1>Excuse me, let's see. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, there it is. Have you played Assassin's Creed for <v Speaker 2>Black Flag? <v Speaker 1>Just interested? <v Speaker 2>Yes, you know, let's see if if a lot, if <v Speaker 2>most of you played it. I expected to be quite <v Speaker 2>a few. But whenever we ask these questions, it's like, <v Speaker 2>you know, thirty three percent, forty percent of people have <v Speaker 2>and most people have not. Maybe I expected to kind <v Speaker 2>of be around that point. So we'll see, Uh, okay, <v Speaker 2>pull question. We'll get the results of that on Gameless. <v Speaker 2>Morning's here on Giant Bomb tomorrow. Speaking of Giant Bomb <v Speaker 2>later today, light Club is back. <v Speaker 1>Lucy did her job, so I did oh his Blake <v Speaker 1>Club today. <v Speaker 3>Oh, in that case, I will pop on for that. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I feel free, come come, come, say hi. We <v Speaker 2>were starting at three pm Eastern, so that'll be noon <v Speaker 2>your time. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>We had Alex Navarro on last week because he forced <v Speaker 2>this game onto Dan, so he came in to see <v Speaker 2>his handy work. <v Speaker 1>And the game is is Terminator three, Rise of the Machine. <v Speaker 1>So come to an in for term dan Ata Reich <v Speaker 1>of the Machine. Uh, it's. <v Speaker 2>It's terrible, but that's that's that's Blake Club. That the <v Speaker 2>thing is he might beat it this week, everybody. So <v Speaker 2>that's two episodes of that, and then he's got another <v Speaker 2>game right after that. So you want to miss won't <v Speaker 2>want to miss it? Still get a chance to get <v Speaker 2>a look at Dan. I'll gimme it up gimmicked up <v Speaker 2>in leather hands, which is very fun, all right. And <v Speaker 2>then what else is happening this week? On Friday, we <v Speaker 2>are going to have Bowser's Hurry, which is a Bowser <v Speaker 2>Fury Bowser's Fury race between myself, Mike Manatti, and Dan Reichert. <v Speaker 2>Sean might participate, but he got he hurt his wrist <v Speaker 2>a little bit, so we'll see he's able to get <v Speaker 2>in there, and during that we're gonna be raising money. <v Speaker 2>I think the plan is to use Tilt Defy to <v Speaker 2>raise money for the Red Cross to help people in <v Speaker 2>LA who have been displaced by the fire fires. <v Speaker 1>So yes, tune in for that. <v Speaker 2>It's gonna be three to four hours of just who's <v Speaker 2>the first person that. <v Speaker 1>Can beat Bowser's fury? Really looking forward to that. <v Speaker 2>All right, let's see here, Lucy James, thank you so <v Speaker 2>much for hanging out with me today and talking about <v Speaker 2>video games. <v Speaker 1>I really appreciate it, of course, and thank you back. Yep. <v Speaker 1>Absolutely great to have you back. <v Speaker 2>I'm glad you survive CS for the most part, and <v Speaker 2>I hope you're able to get to all of this <v Speaker 2>move to Move figured out. Thank you everybody for listening, <v Speaker 2>Thank you for watching. You are the best audience in gaming. <v Speaker 2>Until next time, have a good one, take care of <v Speaker 2>yourself and goodbye.
