Exclusive Interview with ‘The Bachelor’ Stylist and Makeup Artist

Speaker 1: What's up, Bachelor? Happy our listeners, welcome back today. We have another exciting episode for you, like we always do every single week. We're excited to share this one with you because, listen to your heart may be over, but you know what they say, when one door closes, another one opens, and today we're opening another door for you and Becca. It's a little thing called Bachelor, the Greatest Seasons Ever. And we've been teasing this. You've heard about it, it's been rumored, but now you know. It airs June eighth, eight seventh Central on ABC. I'm excited about this, Becca, I know you are, so I feel like we need to let people know what the hell this all is because it's that greatest Seasons ever. What does that mean? There've been what twenty something seasons of The Bachelor, sixteen or fifteen seasons of the Bachelorette, So what does this all mean? We know there's ten weeks of this, so most of you know The Bachelorette was supposed to start airing every Monday night now. As of now, Claire should be engaged. However, the world has had other plans. We're living in unprecedented times right now. We just we don't know what to expect. COVID nineteen has pretty much changed everything for us, and unfortunately we had to postpone filming for Claire seasons. Still exciting about it, still know that it's going to come. Actually talk to Claire last night and we really had a key Ki and I was like, yes, no, I really did, and I was like boot I was like, Claire, I am ready. I am so into this season. I was excited when they announced you Becca is too. We already talked about a little bit on our podcast and can't wait to actually start talking about our season. But until then, that's our franchise. We don't disappoint you. We always giving, We always give you exactly what you need. So at first this news was of course a little heartbreaking, but of course we can't let our incredible fans down. We can't let you go Monday nights empty handed. So what did we do? We started that's her the greatest seasons ever. So what this is? This is ten episode series event that will take audiences on a journey to look back at some of the most dramatic moments ever from the Bachelor franchise. Each Monday, directly from the Bachelor mansion, Mister Chris Harrison will reach into the vault of Bachelor history and bring back one of his favorite seasons, highlighting some of the most devastating rows, ceremonies, passionate proposals, unexpected new arrivals, dramatic meltdowns, biggest breakups, and of course, the most romantic moments. The weekly retrospectives will also include virtual catchups with fan favorite Bachelor alumni checking on the latest in their lives after the final rows. I am so excited for this because, I mean, unlike you, I had watched some seasons of The Bachelor and Bachelor and I haven't seen that many. To be honest, I started watching like later in college. So going back in the vault is going to be so fun for I think viewers to watching, so fun for us to read that there's probably a lot, a lot that has changed since we were the leads from when the show first started. So I cannot wait. And it's crazy to think that the Bachelor franchise has been around for eighteen years. I mean, we've touched on this, but like, think of everything that's coming down from all of the proposals, and maybe like the proposals that didn't work, and so many breakups, so many hookups, so many scandals, so many marriages, and even now babies. So the Bachelor franchise as a whole has just blessed us with so many things and hopefully so many things to look forward to. And I think we came out super lucky because we found the love of our lives. So it's gonna be fun to recap. I'm really excited to see some of those older seasons and just how it's evolved. And speaking of one evolution, there's something that has definitely changed and evolved over time, which is fashion. So it's crazy because I'll go back through old pictures and photos and clips and be like, holy crap, why did I wear that on my season? Do you? Yes? I love everything I wore. I wouldn't change the thing. Well, I mean, you know, you will say you are much more fashionable and such than I am. If I could wear leggings and sweatshirts all day every day, I would. But on the flip side, there are also certain things that I wore in my season that I wish I could wear every day. Like there's one gun in particular that if it was if it was acceptable, to like a go grocery shopping in a gown. I would do it, let's be honest. But you know, there's so many rumors about different outfits that are worn on The Bachelor, and there are so many conspiracy theories out there on the internet. But what a lot of people don't know is that there's actually a very very talented team that works tirelessly behind the scenes and making us all look good each and every season. And I'm only talking about the Bachelor and Bachelorrette leads and Chris Harrison because let's be honest, they can't afford to dress everyone, so the contestants still have to do that on their own. They're still responsible for their own glam and wardrobe. But when you have the honor of being the lead on the show, or being Chris Harrison, you're handed over the most incredible team who make us look the way that we do on the show. And me, let's be honest, it took a village. Carrie and Gina did amazing So in honor of The Bachelor the greatest seasons ever, which we will be referring to as Bachelor Mondays now, we thought it would also be fun to take a trip down memory Lane with the dynamic duo that has made us look so glamorous throughout the years. Today on the podcast, we have Bachelor's stylist Carrie Fetman and makeup artist Gina Modica, who we both have worked so closely with on our seasons. They are here to share some of the secrets, the process, the best looks, and the fails, and you know, we always try to give you the best behind the scenes secrets, insider information, and so I'm so excited to have you guys meet them because we love them so incredibly much and they are such an integral part of the Bachelor family. Yeah, I'm excited that Carrie and Gina are coming on. I feel like we know them so so well. People think they know them. Feel like in these past seasons, these most recent seasons, the contestants and not buy that. I mean the women follow Carrie and Gene even prior to the show. They're so in tune to what's happening in this Batchelor franchise. They follow them, but they don't know them. They don't know they see the glitz and the glamor, they don't know the hard work that it takes. They don't know the story, what it has taken for them to get to this point, and they don't know the memories that we have working with Karrie Engina. So I'm really really excited for today, especially because I know Karrie Engina have never done a podcast. I cannot wait to have them. I mean, every time we see them and talk to them, it's just it brings back so many memories. It's like a walk down memory lane. And for me personally, like when I think of when I was on my season as the lead, Like, of course, the main thing that came from that was Garrett and my relationship with him, like I found last singing love throughout the show. But also like when I think about it, I think of Carrie and Gina because they were in our lives day in day out, they got to know such a deeper side to us and viewers ever will see, and so it's going to be really special to catch up with them, and I can't wait to hear their take on not only our seasons, but others as well. Okay, so Carrie and Gina have been a part of the Bachelor family for far longer than you and I have, Becca, and I'm sure they have way more stories, way more secrets than we can never imagine, and we're gonna we're gonna try to get into a little of that today. I feel like Carrie and Gina are mythical creatures when it comes to when it comes to the Bachelor franchise. You hear about them, you never really get to talk about them. You might see them pass through the camera, maybe on Instagram. But we are honored to have them on our podcast, their very first podcast they've ever done, and they're doing it together with us here today. I know you guys are dying to ask them quite well, actually we ask you guys to send in some questions, so we're gonna get to all of that. But welcome to the show. That's our happy hour Carrie and Gina. Yeah, we're so happy you guys are here with us do your first ever especially Gina and I. I love this so Bachelor Happy Hour listeners. There's so much, obviously that goes on behind the scenes that you don't see that puts the show together season after season, and two of the key components, I mean, Gina and Carry. You guys have seen it all. You've been there, not only with Rachel and I, but with literally everyone. You've helped us cry, you've helped us laugh, you've helped us find love, and you are such a major component. As Rachel said, so we're so happy to have you. We love you, guys, And as she said, we have a lot of fun questions for you. But I think first to start it off. I mean, there's so many different looks that we've had, you know, season after season and on date after date. So Rachel and I thought it would be fun to start and share our top three favorite looks from our seasons with you. Guys. Rachel, are you ready for this? Well, this was tough for me. I'm mad that I had to narrow it down the three. As I was like trying to pick a look, I was like, oh wait, this dress is bomb, Oh wait, my makeup is fire in this phote. You know, it was really hard. So I picked three. But I'm not married to this three. I just want to preface. Yeah, it was hard to narrow down. Okay, So the first look that I chose, I was in I think it was a MacDougal dress, which I can't believe I didn't pick start off with a Randy Ram but it was black. It was like trimmed in gold. I look like a goddess, a queen. I had this fur over my shoulders, not real fur for everyone who's listening, because I don't even want you all to come at me for that. But I remember the men. I had my hairpin back and like kind of like a Kim K vibe, and my makeup of course matched it. I had my jewelry going, and I remember I walked in and the men go, oh my gosh, and I said, that's it. That's it. That's that's one of my favorite looks. Do you remember that? Oh yeah, big time. I'm looking at the photo right now and it is stunning. That's attitude too. Yes, That's what I love about you, Rachees. I feel like you always have the personality to match what you wear. So if you want to be sassy or sassy, if you want to be like more soft and romantic, you can. I just was always awkward to like, I don't know what to be right now. I love this look, though it is stunning, I can't remember. I feel like it all kind of came together too as we were doing it. Like you know, before the season, you pick out dresses. But I feel like when we picked out the dress, we didn't initially pick out the fur to wear with it, and it just kind of came together. It became a mood as we were Okay, I'm gonna wear this. Okay, Gene is gonna match my makeup with this. Oh, we're gonna wear this jewelry. I feel like that's kind of how we did things. We pieced it together as we were going along with the show. Whatever mood we ran. Yeah. And one thing that I love and that's why I'm so happy we have Eugina and carry on today is every day it was different. So every day we would sit down with Gina and she'd be like, Okay, what are you wearing? What kind of look do you want? And then we would recreate Okay, do we want a smoky eye? Do we want a bold lip? And pair it with whatever Carrie styling us in. And then on top of that we get all glam, we get our gowns, our outfits on. And then Carrie, you were so fun about always finding the perfect jewelry. So you would have just this array of earrings or rings or bracelets and you would just play around and stack them and be like, Okay, I'm liking this, what about this? And we would just play off of each other and build and build until we found what we loved. And that was one of the most things I think that I loved about being the lead is being able to play dress up like that because I never get to in my real life. I think that's the fun part for me too. Is also having somebody that's willing to allow Gena and I to play. I mean, not everybody is like the two of you. Some were a little easier, some a little harder, but the ones who were fun allowed Gena to just You're right, the things come together that day. Those were not planned. Those were whatever the mood was. Whatever Gina did with your hair was the jewelry, and the rings were just and make you put your hands out. We would put five rings on and then start eliminating. Other than Rachel of course too, one of them all. Becca, what was one of your favorite looks? So I'm gonna start off, I think so I love redd. It's my favorite color and it was my very first group date. The evening portion at the cocktail party, I had this. It was like this poppy red Randy Rum jumpsuit that had like this plunging neckline, lace at the top, belted in. It was the most stunning jumpsuit. And I love a good jumpsuit, and I saw this one. I think we had actually tried it on carry out your apartment before the season started to get it fitted. And I want, let me put this out there right now. If I ever die, well, I will die one day, but I want to be buried in this jumpsuit. Hot. I loved it, and I remember I was so nervous that day because, like I said, it was my first group date and I was like, I don't know how to handle all these men. And I walked in. I had a coat over it, and I remember walking in to see all the guys and taking the coat off and kind of like you, Rachel, they were like, and I was like, oh my gosh, like this. I've never had that attention on me before. That's crazy. The one thing I remember, too is getting ready with Gina that night. She asked, you know, okay, what kind of look do you want to go for? And since it was such a bold jumpsuit, I was like, I want to do a bright red lip. I want the lipstick to match the jumpsuit, and so When I first walked in, I had the bright red lip to match the jumpsuit. And then I think I talked to I remember who I talked to first, one of the guys. We go, we're together for like twenty We make out, and I started walking out and some of the producers are like, you can't go back into that room right now with all the guys because I had red lipstick all over my face from that, and so I was like, damn, my look is room. So I had to kind of Gina. I think you kind of like wiped it off. You gave me then a nude lip, And so I learned my lesson early on that maybe a bright red lip is not for me when you're trying to date. About the red lip. Mmmm, I think you did wore me that night too. Telling you guys not to kiss is almost impossible. But sometimes the red lip at the reds the end of the season where the dates are a little longer. M you know you don't start making out from the beginning. Well, well, take you beg before you kissed the first guy that night? What was that? How long did it take you before you kissed your first guy? Then? Oh god, it was I was probably like thirty minutes in Carrie. I was gonna say if the lip was fresh. It was, yeah, it was right away. I had to go. I think we redid my makeup in the kitchen pantry or something to face it. But then throughout the season, this is what I love, Gina is shot. I was be like, okay, do you want a makeup lip, which meant like a more nude, toned down color, or if I wasn't feeling the guy, I wanted a brighter boulder color because I was like, I don't want to kiss him. I'm fine if I leave my lipstick on right exactly. I don't think you can go wrong with the red lip. So that was perfect for that outfit. Okay. Another look was one that we fought for Carrie. You remember this one. This was I'm trying to find the picture to pull it up. This was an orange dress. It was see through. We fought everybody to make this dress happen, and I wore it in Rio Haspain when I was eliminating Eric. So we were getting down to the top. Two. Hold on, I'm trying to find this look what I have a good photo of it? That one behind? Yes, yeah, all these concession that we had to do a full body suit so that it would be uh, we matched it to your skin tone. It's a diet, it's a diet. Yeah, yeah, no, that was one of my favorite looks. I felt like a goddess. Um. I loved it even more because there was a fight behind it, you know what I mean, Like we so it was like a fight the system bite the power dress. What did you say? She loved it more behind it. There's a story behind it the whole season. You loved it more when we had to have a fight over it. Well, you know, and just the essence of me, what about what about you? Beckah? I was your second look, second look. Um, I'm trying. Oh so this is probably carry I'm sorry I picked this one because I don't think you loved it as much as I did. But I believe it was my second Rose ceremony and it was a really hard week, and I think I was supposed to go into that ceremony wearing something else, but I think because I was kind of down and anxious and stressed, you were like, where the dress that you want? So it was like this plunging neckline. It was like I don't even know what color you would call it, like a royal blue, kind of violet. All sequins had this big slit up the left leg, kind of had a little train in the back, low back. It was just that was it, And that is something. It wasn't until I was bad to write where I was like, oh, I can I can wear anything, and I can have Like if my mom was there, should be like, Becca, your boobs are going to come out. You cannot wear that. But that was the fun thing about being with Carrie and Gina, and they were like, go for it. And so I loved that dress. I don't even know if we had to really alter it or fit it, because I think I put it on and it just fit like a glove and it was so comfortable. It was so light and so and Carrie, do you remember who the stylist was, I don't know what, uh the design I'm trying to remember the designer of that one. Yeah, but I know it was probably at the beginning when those are usually like when I want the most fancy foofy, but this one is hot. I'm sorry. I remember thinking your boobs are going to come out of that any second. No, Carrie what I did. I had a nip slip that night. I remember David, who was the chicken on my season, had like pulled me aside and pushed me around a corner by the fireplace and started making out with me. And I remember when he stepped away, one of I think one of the camera guys was like Becca and he like pointed down and um, I had a little little baby nip slip. Well, but that was the only one. David had a shove back. Yeah, this was a good season because it's rare that there's only one slippage. Yeah, well, carry I didn't have really much to work with. Let's be honest, Yes, as we are now recalling, I can't believe I forgot this, but I did have a nipsup. So Carrie, in your experience, what is the best way what kind of undergarments would you recommend to combat that. Let's cut down to your belly button. There there's nothing, but you're on your own basic right, a couple of pieces of tape and pray to God not how the evening is going to end for you. Yeah, well, if you will also recall another look that we're not going to get into detail with. But um, you were the one who I think it was the first time I was going to meet five guys during the after the final rows, before I was actually lead. Um, I had that that gold kind of green black dress, and you knew this. I didn't know this, but I was going to be put up on a horse on the life stage in front of the audience and surprise everyone. I wasn't wearing anything under that. And so before that all happened, Carrie, you pulled me backstage and you gave me some underwear that you guys were searching for because you knew I was going to get on that horse. So you've kind of known that experience. You get like the nude, quick little thong to put on whatever it might be. Yeah, Unfortunately, I did not know that evening either was going to be turning out like that until we were already there. That is why I did care that you weren't wearing underwear until I heard and then all of a sudden, It's like, oh shit, where am I getting underwear for her? Right now? This was not a planned thing by me. Yeah. Well, I think heads up and the moral of the stories you always need to carry in Gina with you guys. To help out in those situations. Yes, okay, so last look because we have so much more to get into. The third look a little thing. I walked in thinking I knew exactly how I wanted to be dressed and how not really my makeup, because I really didn't know what was up with that. But I was like, I just want simple dresses, high slits, that's it. No glitter, no like glitz, glitt nothing. I just wanted to be sexy, simple and sexy. So the dress that I chose was simple in a sense that it was black, but sexy because it had a high split that came all the way up past my hip bone and in the middle. It was a Randy rom dress because of course I had to choose a Randy rom And it had stones, jeweled stones, three of them, all the way up to the top of the split. And I loved it. And my makeup was perfect because it was dark and it was like intense and it just matched the boldness of the dress. It was beautiful. I loved it. It's one of my favorite looks from that season. Hair makeup dress. It was stunning. That one really was. That was pretty randy. Sometimes plane dresses do work I knew everybody thinks that there's no reason behind why everybody wear sequins and things like that that they all think that I do to you guys, I've warned all of you. I'll never push you into a gown. You all came in with that idea that Okay, I need to wear you know, I'm never gonna wear sequence. I don't want sequence, I don't want crystals, and yet somehow you all picked these gowns. And so it's amazing how that seems to work out well. And you kind of into a lip. What did she say is that I will push you into a lip even when you don't want it. But I think a lip sets it, you know, like they're like eyebrows shape the face. But I think a bolt not a bold lip, but just the color of your lips really sets the makeup. You know, if you have the wrong lip, it throws everything off. So I definitely defer to you as the expert when it comes to that. And you would like mix and match the palettes. You're like you were like an artist who're like, I'm gonna take a little color. They had a little color there, had a little color here, and then you were like Okay, Becca does does she not give you the little package when you go on your day and she's like, just apply this, And I'm like, I'm shit out of luck. There's no way I'm gonna be able to match this lip the same way that you did. No, you guys did great. Yeah, most of the time you'd put the same lipstick back on. Well, Gina, were not so much. Gina, you are an artist because this rage said. You would have this palette and we would show you the color of the dress or the outfit that we're wearing, and you would pull so many different ones together. You'd have your pen, your little paintbrush, you'd make them all together, and you just have the best eye. So I don't know. My question for you is, when you see those colors, do you just kind of know what works well together? Are you like, oh, let's try this out and see how it turns out, or what's your process? Kind of a little of both. Most of the time, I know what I like, but what I like sometimes you guys will be like, new, that's not going to happen. There's some people that refuse to do darker lipstick, but I gradually kind of That's why I throw color in because I can start out lighter and then kind of trick you into me going darker. We just keep adding. You kind of just get used to it as it goes, so so your eye gets more comfortable too. So yeah, kind of we just wing it. I mean, I always I'm hopeful for the color that I want. Yeah, talans. Rachel was pretty easy with a lot of it. She was used to wearing I think gold color color about used to it. But I mean you were just really open for everything. So I could have thrown any color on her and I would say ninety percent of the time, we would just go with it. Yeah, that kind of a look, so and that's cool, that's your face. You know, we do what you guys want, but eventually we usually get you know, we come to a happy medium. Do you know how many times did people leave in one color and throughout the evening change. Well, there's a few of my girls that, yeah, definitely would try to go back, especially in the beginning of the season. They kind of got used to it towards the end. But in the beginning, I would start out with maybe a bright color and I'd watched the season or I'd noticed that they didn't use what I gave them, but their color from you know, ten years ago was still in their bag and they would just reapply their bloss so they would have a great dress on with no lipstick or whatever, or a completely opposite color. But that's just part of the show. Do sit and watch backstage or you know, behind the scenes, you're like, gosh, dang it, this girl's not following my direction. Well, if I'm there, like if it's a rose night, you'll see me, so you know, you kind of have to because I'm gonna go put it on you anyway again, so it'll kind of sync up, especially for the last scene. But when I'm not with you guys on the dates, like I always know because I could see you guys either didn't use what I gave you, or I watched the show and find that if for some reason, you have a lipstick on in one color and then like the next scene you have another color, I know it kind of didn't happen. You weren't feeling at that job. Don't follow your role. So I'll get into my last look and then we'll keep going because I love hearing from you. But the last look that I pulled was one that was so I think, not me that I never would have probably gravitated towards if I didn't have your help carry But it was this black strapless mermaid gown. It was another Randy Ram and it was like very classic Barbies, like vintage Barbie. That Yep, that's the one. I wore it at the Roast ceremony in Park City, Utah when I was falling in love with Garrett that week. So it was one that I think I had to kind of be pushed into from you. But then once I put it on, I was like, ah, this is stunning. So that's where you I mean, you are so good about letting us feel out the gowns and the dresses and the outfits and kind of picking what we're comfortable in, but you also are great about pushing maybe us outside of our boundaries or whatever we're comfortable usually and seeing just try this. And so I want to know for you, like, where's that fine line of how much do you want to push if you know something could be awesome? And when when you feel like, Okay, I'm just gonna let them do their thing. But the most part, I try to let you guys do your own thing. I mean, this is so not about me. This is really about you falling in love and finding happiness and feeling comfortable while you're out there. And so I never want this to be a little mini me just because I pushed you into an outfit. But every once in while I see something that maybe you're just missing. So I may come back to a couple of times just to see where if you've changed your mind a little. But when I know that it's not working, it than even that's that's not my thing, Carrie, And then I hear about it. We will get into the two of you. That's why I said I can't tell you the bane of her existence about the lead color. Kind of like when all of a sudden somebody will not wear the dress that they were in love with one day and then all of a sudden they hated the next day. I think this is a really good point because a lot of times we see on social media where whatever platform it may be, you guys might get blamed for a makeup look or the dress that someone picks. But it's really important to know how it all kind of comes together and carry you touched on this a little bit, But are you the end all, be all, Gina and Carrie, both of you can take this question. When it comes to the final look that the leads choose. Oh god, now, no, No, it comes down to you, guys, it really does. It doesn't matter because it's not our face that's out there for eight or ten weeks and beyond. So so you guys get the final say. Yeah, we're also not trying to You can answer that. I mean, did we really ever? We definitely will, you know, kind of coached you in our direction or something, or at least have you try something out. But if you don't like it, we don't care. But I love that you said that, So everybody listening. Ridiculous, Yeah, everybody listening. If you hate a look that is not gene, that carries fault, if the lead's fault, the lead chooses the look, the final look has a final say when they go out on these dates. I think that's one of the number one questions we get. Why did you wear that? Why was your makeup like that? Why was your hair like that? And we do our own hair, so there's nobody else to blame when it comes to that. Yeah, I think that's really important, Like you give us the tools, or you put you know, the dresses out there and you show us like the lip color you may have or the eyeshadows, but we ultimately put it all together and choose it. That's why every time I read something about all of the Bengals and the sequence and all of the things, as though that's the only thing I present to you guys, And I'm just like each season you all see to me, don't I won't wear I'm not wearing sequence. I'm not wearing that. And then all of a sudden, I look at the top fifteen dresses you've chosen, and they all seem to be either Randy ram or something Lizzy every one. I mean, I actually prefer some of the more plain things now, not the first night. The first night, I will admit, there is a formula for why the first night has either a gauzy bottom or a sequence, because I don't think the audience realizes how long that night is and how long and how many times you're lifted in the air and things like that and put down and trying to get a dress that's not soaking up the water in that driveway, because they don't always put you down where the driveway is not wet. Now, talk about that first night because a lot goes into it and it is it's it's like a two night process, but a lot goes into the look because it's it has to be perfect because that's the first night the audience is going to see you. That's the first night the men are going to meet you. Um, talk a little bit about that when you talk about like what goes into that look and what is that formula? Well, the formula just is that it's got to be something that I can dry and clean while the party is beginning before you go back out again. And so it can't be something that is absorbed and is filthy because it's a really long night and you can't worry about the fact that every time you cross your leg you have the bottom of your dress it is completely roomed. Or you go to the bathroom and you have to lift up the whole thing you need three people to help you do it. Yes, it's not glamorous people, it's not. I want to ask you both, what is the biggest fashion Misshapper faux Pat and glam Misshapper faux Pat that you guys have seen throughout the seasons. Gina, you go first, I've gotten too many to think of. It's I would have to probably say, Rachel, right, I know you were going to use me. Sorry, well you're I know you cried your lashes off, and who wasn't that their lashes froze? That was me as well that they Actually I remember watching it and you you actually came back that day, you Gina, I had icicles on my lashes because I forget what area we were in, but it was just freezing. And then unfortunately when you cried, you're so. But I was pretty good. I mean, everybody pretty much sticks with everything that I stick on their face. I use a lot of you know, blue when I'm doing it, not blue, but you know, staying here or with the foundations and stuff. But yeah, we couldn't avoid that one. I would have to say that one because it was everywhere. I mean, because I use individuals, I don't use lash. If it was strip, it wouldn't have been that bad at what it came off in one swoop. But I mean as you cried, more and more came off, right, and we love your lashes so and and and just to give background, it's not like Gina's lashes come off easily. They are individual. I wanted like tweety bird. I have big eyes, so I need big lashes to match. I was in the middle of a blizzard. We were on a glacier having a date, and a storm came and you couldn't see the persons standing in front of you, and so my eyelashes froze off. They they just fell off, and then the other one. Yes, I was crying so much, was rubbing my eyes and they came off. You know. So it's not like your makeup comes becomes undone easily. You know, you have to be in a blizzard or crying yourself. You know, you can asually swim in the lashes and they're staying. But you know that epic love The Frozen one is my favorite. Trying to get but the Frozen one was kind of fun. Yeah, so so Gina obviously lashes and escara and the eyes like the window to the soul and they they take a beating sometimes on this show. Are there any makeup recommendations or gloom lash recommendations that you're always like, I have to stick with this. This is gold. If the girls are gonna cry, if they're gonna laugh, if they're gonna be in a blizzard if they're going to be underwater. I pretty much stick with the same thing all the time because it works. It's just, you know, duo just for your lashes. The trick with anything. It's just if as long as you don't touch your face, it's going to be okay. He said. We've had I think Joe Joe Season or something where I don't know if it was the Vegas show where she actually had to dive into water. Well, you guys all have to dive into water and you'll have lashes on with some we're on a boat somewhere, you know, and still be fine. Yeah. All the foundations are silicon and cream and same stuff. It's just, you know, we have to keep your face on. It's different when you're working a television show where you can go in and touch people up and they'll stop in between scenes. You guys are pretty much on your own until you know, unless it's the row ceremony. So everything we put on you needs to stay. So that's why I use lots of creams, waterproof everything. And the most part, it's most parts, you guys always do really good. There's only a few times where you come back and go. You kind of warned me before I'll see it, like, sorry, but this happens. One thing that I loved about you. Every time we sat down before we were getting ready for the dates, as you would ask do you think you're gonna kiss today? And do you think you're gonna cry today? Those are the two key things every time, you know, and we would change about everything. You asked me that well because I knew and I also knew that you were always aware. You were there's some girls that are more aware than other girls, and you were always aware of your face and your lips and stuff like that. I mean, you know, everybody gets lost a little bit, but you were most aware of Like you would say, I'm probably going to be making out a lot, so we wouldn't go with a darker color or if I needed it darker. You know, we just use more pencil than, you know, than a cream or something like that. With Becca, you know, we probably used a lot of pencil on you just because you never went really bold, you know, and you learned my lesson at first group date with the right confession. Gina, You're really not that great That Rachel was much more a weird than you say you're messy, you'll be a messy see the people that are, you know, it's not just natural confession. I remember when I was going to come on to the Bachelorette and they were asking me who's good who what what kind of hairstyle do you want? You know, this is who you'll be working with for the stylists, this is who for makeup. And my first question was, let's just be real. All the bachelorettes have looked the same that have come on. I am the first one of color. Can the makeup artists to do a person of color? That's And I was like, can she do my makeup? And they were like, are you kidding? Gina can do it all. And I have to say, Gina, from the first night, you did not disappoint me. You always held me down because you know, sometimes you can see black people with their face doesn't match their neck, and I was afraid that the foundation wasn't going to match me and it was perfect. That's why you know you were with me on my most important day, my wedding day. Yeah, like you rocked it. I was so nervous at first, but after the first time we were good. Never had any you shouldn't matter with any makeup artist, which we've just yeah, but you we know that that's not you know, it's just it's not really a matter of what color. It's just matching the color. Yeah, yeah, Okay, carry your faux pat because you said you have so many, so these better be good. They better not be us. I don't have any. No, of course, she doesn't have any. At the end of the season, and you're just like, oh, God, was I hi that day? I mean, what was I thinking? I mean, um, I'm trying to think of her name right now. I put her in a yellow baby doll dress. It was the ugliest thing I've ever seen on TV. I mean, and this was it was truly Shane Lamas and it was she was on somebody's finale and it was just, um, I think she was on Ben Flannic season or something like that, and it was the ugliest dress I had ever seen in my whole life. Oh, we got we got a photo, Yeahkes Carrie, it is. She looks like an egg, a glittered egg. So it's not even that it's her fault, because I don't know how I brought it. It's one thing if I get to say, oh, well I didn't pick it, no big deal. But if you bring it, then you gotta stand up for the fact of hey, guess what's your fault. Okay, in your defense, what year was this? What year was this? It could have been nineteen forty three and was still a yellow baby doll dress. I don't even know who this bachelor is. You can't hit it out of the park every time. We do so many books. Yeah, it's impossible. I mean, every makeup I've done hasn't been God knows, it hasn't been you know on point. I mean stuff that happens. We do it thousands of time during a season or something. So I think the yellow isn't that well, that was pretty bad. The yellow it was, I know now it was I'm mcgrad this season and it was just it was. It was so bad that I don't know why we decided to do it, not as a fancy dress that day. It was just there was just so many things going on in that season where it was just new things, new trials, new and listen, you have to take the blame when you put it on. At some point, I should have just burnt it while she was still in it, because it was really that horrifying. Well, so speaking of this is a good segue, I want to get into the background because obviously Bachelor's beout around eighteen years and you guys have been with the show for so long you've literally seen everything that you probably can. So how did you both get started? As the stylist and makeup artist, Gina you go, I came in on the second season with Chris. Chris brought me on. I worked with Chris on another show, and when he got his show, he told me that he would bring me and he has ever since. So I just kind of got lucky with that and from there because in the beginning, I didn't do The Bachelor or the Bachelorettes. I just did Chris, and then probably a couple of seasons in I started doing Chris and the Bachelor's and I think right after Trista then I started doing just that the Bachelorettes also, so I kind of kind of took on everything, and then I started hiring my own people in for like Night one. As you guys know, people come in so there's a bunch of people for a few days. But yeah, no, it was all because of mister Harrison and it's been great. And I mean you guys are also close because you're day in and day out with Chris. But June, you also work with him on a millionaire correct I work? Yeah, I personal him, so I whatever he's on, lucky Me, I get to do. I get to do all of it. Nine nine of the time. I think, will you tell people what he smells like? People want to I don't remember. I mean, obviously good people want to know that. People want to know it smells wonderful. He's he is the most. It's an amazing thing that I've never seen this man sweat, even if it's one hundred and ten degrees out in Mexico and we're shooting a show. I mean I literally have to take his shirt hang it on the outside of his suit just so I know that he's worn the shirt because there is not a makeup stain. There's not a sweat stain, there is not there is nothing about the shirt that I when I powdered him, I'm sweating. He's fine, It's just him. So who's a bigger diva like the Bachelorette or Chris Harrison. That's Flarets. Yeah, he's so chill. I'm not even kissing his ass. He's so, yeah, you guys win it. Carrie, When did you start? I started for Trista's wedding. They decided that they wanted a new look, and Gina made sure for the first year and a half that I apparently replaced somebody that I didn't know. I just was asked whether or not I would come in and do this TV show. And I meet Gina the first night and she's like, so, you know you got somebody fired. I did not see you did. And so from that moment on, I was like, Okay, I'm either going to hate you or really love you. And thank god, after eighteen years, we finally grew to like each other seeing that we're together like seventeen hours out of every single day, seven days a week for ten weeks and so week two months. But that's a part of your chemistry and that comes. That's like why you guys are still working together still on the season. You see it in every lead you work. The look has to come together, and I think that that's part of your chemistry. When I first met you, guys, for me to say this, but I can remember, and Becca, I want you to tell your the first time you met them, the first time I saw them, because maybe just some background. What you guys don't know that's are happy our listeners is that as contestants, we don't see Gina and Carrie. It's very rare that you see them. They are with the lead and there with Chris Harrison. But I ran into them in Saint Thomas on Nick season coming out of the elevator, and I thought, what a cute married couple that is. I can't find a date. They hate for me to say that. They're like, I can't believe you thought that I was married to her or to him. Yeah, they were probably bickering, and maybe that's what that's what you know, that's the essence of them as well every day. Well, so I Carrie, I think I met you first on RA season. You you popped in. I think it was like during the row ceremony, right after her hometowns. But the first time you two were together was on after the final Rows and I was about to go out and I think watched my breakup for the first time on TV with Chris, and so Gina you were getting me ready, Carrie, you were you. This is the first time we were all in the same room together. You were getting me dressed, and I think we were kind of behind, so we were trying to scramble, and you two, you know, and your loving way. We're bickering. But I remember being like, this is a good distraction for me right now, because if these two weren't here going back and forth, I would be alone in my thoughts and probably freaking out, and I would have like bolted out the door and ran away and not have made it to the stage. So it was a good distraction. But it's like it's the funniest, cutest relationship between you two because you guys really are together day in day out, twenty four to seven, Like people don't realize, Like when we're traveling, you know, when we're the leads, we're on dates and we're keeping busy. But you guys, like you know, you do your jobs, you wake us up in the morning, you get us righting, you meet us in the afternoon before the night portion, but you have still free time together to do whatever you want. And so you guys are, as Rachel said it best, kind of like a married couple. What's the best place that you guys have have your favorite place that you've been to on the seasons because you've been doing it for so long. We won't make you pick your favorite season because obviously we back end Rachel. But what's the fav what's the most favorite place that you've been to on someone's season. Ah, there's so many places around the world, which Europe is great. Um, all Beaves was amazing. I mean we love going to Europe. Yeah, And the best part of this job is not just you guys, which is great, and and the covet we get from the fans and things like that that think that we're doing something so amazing. And you guys are always so easy when no let me RePhase it, but you're usually very very great about giving us really nice compliments and being super amazingly sweet to all of us and allowing us to share your life with you during during this period. But I think that it's the best part is that Gina and I really do get to see the world and while you guys are on the stage. I'm not going to say Gene and I have never just gone off and just played in Sightseed well until we had to come back. Now, sometimes we're supposed to get back by eight o'clock, and you guys are still not there at eleven. But it's a pretty This is what I would dream for everybody to have a dream job. Definitely. Yeah, there's not really one complaint. Well, get lipstick all over your faces and or unless you just have like somebody who's difficult, because I and I obviously am not going to put you guys out there as much as I want to to talk about difficult, I mean unless it's us, because I know we've had difficult moments too, But I mean, I'm sure sometimes it can be challenging for you guys when you do have a more difficult lead. So since I can't ask you details about that, because listen, we all want to stay employed, right, I do want to ask you how you create your vibe for each Bachelor and bachelorette because they are all different and you really don't know maybe other than Instagram because or maybe what you watched on the prior season if you are able to watch us go through the Bachelor of Batchelerette, whatever it may be, how do you create the vibe and the look for each lead coming into it, because sometimes you guys don't have a lot of time. Sometimes they're chosen at the last minute of doing it, you said, twenty years of doing it, doing it. I mean, you know, I'm sure Carrie's the same way. You can pretty much size up a face or a look of what we think is comfortable, and that's when. But then we have to do it and see if you guys are comfortable, and then you come to kind of a happy medium. But you just you just do it. You kind of just get the feel for the personality and who they are and what they like and don't like. You just have to ask questions. But and if they're not very agreeable, you just kind of you just do it, wing it and eventually, if if you're putting clothes on somebody or if you're doing somebody's look, it will tell you, you know. I mean, you know, I like to call all of you. Oh well, that first of all call with you was just the worst. I had already complimented you. In an airport we somehow bumped into which we don't ever really do. We never see the contestants going home, but somehow we were on an airplane with Rachel, and I remember walking up to her and going, oh my god, that dress you wore last night was the most stunning dress. I just need to know where you got it from. And she turned around and looked at me and was like, why where are you? But thank you. I didn't know who you are. I didn't tell you. Now the girl the girls know who you guys are. They follow you before the season even starts. We didn't know. And so I do know though, that right before we were beginning, and you know this, I like to talk to all of you guys and just find out what your look is. Again, it's not about Gina and I. It's it really is about how you want to look. And I remember calling Rachel, not knowing that she was in the middle of this trial, and she kept saying to me, I'll get back to you. I'll get back to you. And I kept looking at going, oh, okay, well, yes, we're start soon. I don't know how to break this to you, but you're not going to have any clothes if you don't tell me what you want. And he was not looking he's being nice, he was not looking forward to meeting me. He did not know what he was going to get. Because I was so dismissive, I was like, I mean, you know, in my mind, I'm like but your stylist, that's what you just you know, you pick something that because I knew nothing about the business anyways, Oh, how the tables have turned. But I do ask you that question just because if you had somebody like me who was difficult in the beginning, who wasn't really giving you anything to work with, how do you pick a look from that? How do you pick a vibe? Because you do have to order clothes before. Yeah, I mean we start early. But the truth is that there's enough stuff that because what I've learned from all of you is that no matter what you say you want is never the stuff you pick. You always feel each one of you lately has said I don't want any sequence, I don't want any Bengals, I don't want this, I don't want that, I don't want that. And then in the meantime, at the end of the season we look and go, all right, well, you were in seven, Randy ram of the most heavy beaded dresses or yeah, the dresses that you both loved so much were dresses that were slid up to the down to your belly button, up to your crotch, both of you. And so it's that's not just by happenstance. That's that you guys choose it, But there's so many other rats. I mean, we started off with like twenty rats of clothes or you even choose from and so the idea that Gene and I have a full look in our head for you, No, it's the clothes that dictate the look, and it's the person that chooses the clothes. I definitely think it always evolves, don't you, guys. I mean, we do start out with, especially night one, we want to make you look as best as we possibly can and make you, guys feel good. But I think that definitely if you look at night one and then you know your proposal, the look changes a lot because we all get to know each other and what everybody's comfortable with. Yeah, friendships that that form. I'm sorry you cannot live to somebody's life of where we're the first ones that you wake up to and you're sharing what happened the night before, whether it was happy or sad, And and then in the middle of the day when you've been surrounded by other people that are with you all the time and you finally get to hear you know or see Jane and I and you're able to share what what went on, and so when people ask me is it real and things like that, how yeah. I mean, we live your life with you. We cry the tears with you. We we get to hear your innermost thoughts and your worst fears all playing out each day. It's hard not to fall in love each season with somebody. It's my saying that do I have a favorite or at least favorite? No. There, we're sharing your life. It's easy to fall in love with them, but it's probably easy to quickly fall out of love with them as well, you know, when the season's over with. So I think one thing that viewers don't know and don't see is because we are with you so much. I mean, and we're with the production team too, or with our producers day and day out. They're the ones on scene with us on the dates. But you two especially, and I tell people this, like even talking with Garrett to this day, like you two were the ones who were kind of like my rock that I felt like I could go to and confide in away from the show and away from the drama. And I felt like when I would open up to you about my relationships and how I was feeling with these guys. It wasn't to create or to get a storyline like it is for you know, some other people that work on this show. Like I really felt like you guys did become friends and family where I could confide in you and know that you would give me advice to how to navigate the guys in our relationships and kind of what you've seen in the past, and so that helped me tremendously. Like Carrie and Gina, I remember the last day or the last week when we were all in them Maldives, and obviously that's probably the most stressful time for any lead, is when you have two guys left and your heart is torn and you're going through all these emotions that most people don't feel in a normal relationship. And you guys were so calm, and you're like, look, we've been here before. I was here last year with Rachel, I was here a couple of years ago with Joe. Joe, We've seen it all and this is how they navigate it. But just to have you guys there in the closets and in front of the mirrors and sitting and having those quiet moments together was something really special and Gina. One story that I have to share about you, which is one of my favorite stories from the entire season. It was the very last day. It was proposal day. I had just broken up with Blake, and I was a mess, as I'm sure all the leads before me were at that moment, and obviously, like I had cried my makeup off, I was sweating. It was so hot, and we had to kind of revamp from the heartbreak into now going into this proposal with Garrett where it was supposed to be the happiest time, and I remember there was just chaos. Everyone was kind of rushing because we had to try and get certain shots, like before the sun went down or something. And so you had me in your room. You were touching me up, doing my makeup, and all the other producers and the friends around us were kind of chatting and I think distracting me, and you were like, Becca, get down on the bed. It just lay there, take some breaths. I'm going to touch you up. So I was laying on the bed, you were fixing me up, doing my makeup, and as we were doing that, I was like, you, guys, I'm about to get engaged to this guy. And I don't even know how to spell his last name, and ginas like figure out how to spell his last name. You wrote it down on this little hotel piece of paper for me and had it sitting on my stomach, and as you were doing my mess era and putting on new lashes and doing my lipstick, you were like, why R I G O Y E N. We were talking through letter by letter of how to spell Garrett's last name, and that was something that to this day, I will never forget it. It's one of my favorite stories, and I think it just goes to show our listeners in the viewers how close we actually do get with you two, and how much you really do share. And you're in like the most major moments of our lives. Oh how many you really? Like I don't even remember that, but it really is sweet. I mean, I'm sure, yeah, I'm glad that I remember. I remember parts of it. I remember, you know, especially leading over you while you're laying down and trying to get it all together while you're tell me to stop crying. With those things, it's very hard to go from one thing to another, especially which is going to be the happiest part of your life, but it's been I'm so glad that you guys actually remember stuff like that, because well, I think we don't think. You know, everything is kind of like the day is when the days it's like it's like having a wedding, you know, it's like you prepare everything for that one day and then your wedding's over in an hour. So it's nice that you guys take some of us home with you. Well, I think it's it's important too, because like the way Becca, you said it perfectly, just like that you captured how it feels to have a Genie, Genie, a Gina and Carrie with you every single morning, and how you start your day and honestly how you end your day and in the middle of your day. But I am curious before I tell my story because Becca has a story. I have a story, and I'm sure every Bachelor at Bachelor has their story. Do you You probably remember every single season, but is this a common theme that you know the last day you guys are going to have to not just be a stylist, have to be a makeup artist, but have to be a counselor in these moments as well, especially when they flip the script. Oh well, I think we should actually have honorary degrees in psychology. Yes, seeing that what any show I work on, I mean, I think any makeup artists will say the same thing. I mean, it's kind of like being a bartender. We're you're, we're in your face, we're you know, we're the first person you usually see, and we're the last person usually see, like to get your makeup off, and just so, I think it's just normal that that's what we do. We have their choice, even if we don't like you, we still have to listen to. Always, against what every producer has ever wanted here is that Gene and I are the people that you listen to um because I'm sure we're we're not. The truth really is, we don't need you to say anything. We just need you to look pretty. And it's really hard to be both physically and emotionally naked in front of us and not develop this relationship. I mean, it's it's really hard. And that's what I always try to tell people at the end of the season. If you drop me like a hot potato and you're busy when you get home and you forget this old man that was there for you, that listened and loved you and and made sure that you were when you were crying to wipe your tears and when you're laughing, to laugh harder than you did with you The idea that you guys just leave us, No, it's a really hard thing to realize that not all of you, like you guys, stay with us years to come. I mean being able to be at Rachel's wedding, you know, just knowing that we were an invited guest, or come on, Beck, going to see you performing on that stage that night with Ben. It's just there's something that's just so exciting. I wouldn't go out for anybody that was performing on a stage and have to be around plan and go halfway across the country for somebody's wedding. I hope that for some of my closest friends, but I aspend that much time with them either. So I think it's so important because I always described you guys as a breath of fresh air. I could ex hell when I saw you guys walk into my room, because you are more than producers. You know, your producers are there for you. They are like your parents. And please don't edit this out, but it's almost as if you know they want something from you, because at the end of the day, they're trying to produce a show. You guys don't want anything from us, like you said, other than to look pretty. So for me, when you would when I would see you walk through the room, I would say, Okay, this is normal. We could have conversations about you know, I say, what's going on in the world, or we could just talk about random things and didn't have to talk about in the moment or what we were about to face and the hard decisions that were the reality of living in the bachelor bubble when you are the lead in the season. I remember that. I remember when um and somehow you guys remain professional too, because I know I would say, like, what do you think about you know so and so? You know, what do you think about him? Do you like him? And y'all would be like, we don't even know who that is. You know, You're like, we're paying attention to you. She don't know who these contested had nicknames for all the guys. That's what I love. She'd be like, what about Chicken or whoever it was? Yeah, you guys don't pay attention enough to even know that, but you would still remain professional, but you are there for us. And I remember the my finale as the Bachelorette, and I was still emotional from the day before, because what people don't understand is when you get down to the two, even though you know what you're going to do, you're so emotional because you still care about that person and you're leaving them devastated and you feel sorry for them, and you just you like don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. And I remember I woke up that day and I had already sent Peter home, and you just kind of looked at me, Gina, and you were like, girl, get it together. And I'm a straight shooter and I need people to talk to me like that, like get your ass up, like you're about to get proposed to. You know. My eyes were puffy. I didn't get any sleep that night. You were like, listen, when people show you who they are, believe them. Okay, now you're about to go get engaged. And it just totally changed my mindset. It was like, yeah, I am and I you know, and I this is exactly what I came for. And I didn't even know what I was going to get And I will never forget that moment because it was like a switch went off on me, like why are you wasting tears? What are you doing? You know, you've got a man who's madly in love with you's about to propose to you, and you know, like get it together. And you know after that, I don't think I shed another here. I was like, I'm sorry, how can we get these bags from any flasks? Speaking of which, Shena, this is a perfect question for you. How do you get bags and the puffiness under away from Every girl listening wants to know this. And then please don't forget I have one for you carried to about something that happens on Seeson. Well, I mean, you guys are crying all the time, and the guys are crying all the time. But I mean there's really no secret. It's the same thing as everybody does. I think we just give you, you know, your eye patches underneath in the morning while we're doing your makeup, to take it down, you know, put some ice on your eyes. Constantly tell you people to drink tons and tons of water because especially with your schedule and the weather, I mean, we go from freezing weather to freaking you know, one hundred percent humidity within like two days. Your body's going through crazy shit. So yeah, we just keep you guys calm with ice, ice and ice patches. That's all we do. There's nothing much you could do. You know you're going to break. You guys are always amazing with everything, so you'll do what I say, at least when I'm over you. You guys always do. For the most part, I think it works. How great was it to have them? I miss them? Yeah, it was nice to go down memory lane with them, and it's it's funny. As you were talking Becca, it would make me think of another memory and I was like, oh, yeah, this happened, and that happened. And I mean the way you broke down what they mean to us and how they're more than just a stylist and a makeup artist, like it really resonated with me. I was like, Oh, I don't know if it's the red wine or if I'm if I'm just getting emotional, but it took me back to that place that when we're in those moments with them and they are so much more than just their job titles to us. Well, and that's one thing what Gina said at the end, She's like, you know, if we do, we are jobs, right, We're just following the trends. But they do so much more than I think anyone will ever be able to see watching the show, like they are there in day out, day out. They are like our confidence, the shoulders we cry on. They hug us, they kiss us, They make us feel better when we need it, and and kind of like you, like, there's so many more things where we would talk about something. I'm like, oh my gosh, what about this or what about that? Like to this day, when I think of hot dogs, I think of Carrie because of how much he loves hot dogs. And we had a free night enrichment, and so we just sat in bed and ate hot dogs in our ropes together, like little moments like that, like they will always stay with us. It would not be you know, people always say it wouldn't be The Bachelor and Bachelorette without Chris Harrison, which is true, but it also wouldn't be that show without those yet, And I think that what was touching too is how they're affected by it. I mean to hear Carrie talk about how it kind of hurts his feelings when you know, a season passes and that he doesn't maintain the relationships, Like obviously you're not going to be as close as you are in the season when you're seeing someone every day, but the fact that people move on with their lives and they kind of forget about you know, how he and Gina helped them through these times. You know, it was it was It was really touching because they're just as affected by us as we are with them. So I hope that you guys enjoyed kind of that insight you don't you don't hear from Carrie and Gina, and so we pulled back the curtains and let you in a little bit more into our world, which is kind of what that's where happy how we're supposed to be about. We give you that insight that you can't get from other podcasts, and so we really hope you guys enjoyed this. Yeah, I mean, we definitely did.
