Hey everyone, it's Tuesday, August the ten, twenty ten. You're listening to the giant podcast, the Giant Freddy Pants of Spiders Spider Cast. We should call it instead. You're a big man. What'd you get him and kill it? Because you guys are all you're such a big man. Don't you just eat it? Because I already had lunch? What if you're a big man. Once you pick it, put it and then take off your shirt and then put it on your chest. Yeah, or just put it in your hand and drop it in your pants. No, we're not we're not stopping the recording of this pot exactly. Talk us through it. Put it in a word picture. It's all more fun to paint the word picture of you guys cringing and mincing like little ladies with your fanciest tea dresses on at the site of a spider that's a good ten feet wait for you to say, being the guys sitting farthest from it, and it's not ten feet away, it's like a hundred feet away, because that spiders like ten feet The spider has to go through all of us before it gets to you. It's got a direct line of sight to all of us. It's already gone through me. And really I'm closer to it than you are. That's not true. Don't get a tape measure, don't talk to you're just inviting trouble. We'll use the coon's measuring system. From say, I'd say it's about one point seven five, Koon says from here, sure now, because Coons would never touch it, so it's zero. Coons is a smart man. Coons might be already dead because of that. Spider might have gone through. Spider does not care about anything else going on. I did notice the Dave is not sitting out there just to try here to this not here. Did you look on the ceiling? He released a bunch of spiders and that escaped because the Spider ate him. No, he's been gone since Friday. No, you're gonna open the closet. And no, he's in Virginia, that's what He's on the East coast, the spider. He's in the belt Way. Well, if the Spider is clever enough to to to create dummy Twitter messages from Dave Spider, then you know what we're We're fucked. No matter what we do, we're fucked. We should capture that spider and harness its power. It didn't actually create Tweeter didn't even do that. It's just it's just spoofed a call to Dave. You should come out here Virginia. I've got something for you. Uh. I believe it's not Virginity. Is the belt Way? Is this DC area? I don't. I don't know. Maybe he's in Virginia. It's a political spider, that's all, Jeff. I'm sure you're with me here, Hey Street all anything, the whole, the whole Eastern seaboard of the distance between things makes no sense to me. I don't know. I'm like, like he could like Rhode Island could be two miles from Boston, orcand Beach a thousand and and I'm like, yeah, I went to LA and back in a car this weekend. And other than California born and bread here, Like it's like we're used to like one state being huge. Yeah, Like I can travel thousands of miles and never leave a state. Yeah, I know. I can learn from my parents house. I can get the Tennessee and South Carolina within an hour. Yes, that's crazy. I left my house at midnight on Friday night and we left for lat like two third John Favreau come over and was like dude's man. And then we got back pretty much at midnight twenty four hours later. So there's a lot, a lot of driving, you put on your zoot suit and hang out with some beautiful babies. Yeah, pretty much. And it was money. Yeah, what happened? I had to go down there, down there with a friend, help her pick some stuff up, and then come right back. Get the hell out of La. We were in LA four let's say about twenty minutes. Really we were stopped at our destination for twenty minutes. Wow. Yeah, that's a lot of driving. Pick up trailer, then drive it back up. Check the trailer for spiders. No, there no spiders. We might have brought back La spiders. Maybe the worst hotel motel room I've ever been in, that's saying a lot spider. There was a there was a wet spot on the floor and like a fresh wet spot. Yeah, they only have smoking rooms available. It was like five in the morning when decided to stop. Man, this trip sounds and uh real weird. Have you ever gotten in your car and seen cobwebs in the car? Sure, my car has got them all over you know the spiders live in there, but you don't see the spiders I actually have. I have a lot of cobwebs at my house. I maybe have I maybe have too many spiders I have. I'm okay with like league with the spiders. I believe in a healthy spider population because I also have a lot of bugs, and so I'd rather have spiders. I'd rather have this. Yeah, I'd rather have the spiders than than the bugs, because at least the spiders are doing something. Spiders, but they're killing other bugs, and I like that. I like that about spiders. So you let them kill the other bugs, and then you killed them, and then they crawl into your bed and bite you. Then they take your car out and shit cobwebs all over it while they're joy. And then they get in your ear and you feel them crawling around in there, and then go on eas your ear and you got baby spiders in ear. I I've had an earache for the last three days. Think about it. Something that you're just gonna open up. Maybe you getting maybe that hotel that that baby spider, that Motel six definitely could have. Well City Santaella, Oh shit, don't beat don't stay overnight and Santa Nella maybe didn't have it. Five and then that five and that sleep in the bed of the truck, probably sleeping the trailer that you guys just picked up that was on our way down. Okay. It probably the sheet When you check into a room, the sheets are not supposed to be damp, right, Like that's that's not Oh, they're just freshly washed. Yeah, yeah it was. Did you take them off? It was like someone had been It was a smoking room and it seemed like someone had been like freebasing mold in there or something. It was like, this is the dichotomy for me, is that you felt like I was in a band again. Basically, you're you're unafraid to go into the worst motel six but spider in the room. Look out. I've had spider bites before and they're unpleasant. It's true. Well, I'm glad that you made it home safe. Jeff from your your International Travels WorldWind Tour WORL Wind Tour of the Southland. Yeah, just doing three runs prepping. Yeah, yeah, exactly, got a new route real fast midnight. It's beet better clean. Something fell off my car Key's there to drive tell Ay I didn't though, because I drove, which is weird, right You think I would have noticed figure that out until I got there. I had to take a part this room. It seemed like it was dirty, and it was dirty, so I clean. Sure, man, you could have picked up my hot cold pack. We still have that place? What? No, it was months and months ago for June were Yeah, yeah, it's probably still people, it's probably still there, but it's probably in the freezer. But still there's a lot of stuff in that freezer from well before our arrival. Someone found it actually and pulled it out, and so this would like cool down the smoke and be like, well, I'm gonna put it in here. Just cut it, cut it open and put it into the bong. Man. Oh, I hope they did that, Vinny. I'll talk about it now, Vinny. Have you been playing any games? Have been playing starcraftft anymore? But I've been playing Desert campaign in StarCraft? Ask him how how did I play it? Because it was StarCraft? Yeah, how was the zerd campaign treating you? It's okay, I want to go into detail, nocuse you play it's a big bug. That was horrible. I'm sort of great, big smart bug. It's damn it. Johnny is a spider. Damn bugs. I don't think it's moved, it's last it's pondering. That's why spiders are so damn creepy, because what's it doing. I think sleeping spiders don't sleep totally don't have eyelids. They can't sleep, you know. I think I think it's my best friends starter. You've not gotten close enough too. It's not on the creep though, so it'll move, waste throw, It's gonna move all like half speed up there, all right, yeah, but it makes its own creep so so yeah, so I haven't seen you on my Battlenet friends list since the game came out. It's just like StarCraft stole me from StarCraft two. Yeah, so you started playing StarCraft for one and now you can't stop playing StarCraft one totally. And so I made it through the Charan and zero campaign, and then I remembered suddenly as I was out on Saturday night, Oh dude, there's a bunch of cheats for StarCraft Yeah. And then so now I'm pretty much through with the Protos campaign. Yeah, so cheats for StarCraft two as well. Oh they're really Yeah, showing them money and those out. Oh yeah, yeah, there's tons of just type them in codes they disabled the achievements. Yeah that sure, whatever, it's reasonable. Yeah. So I'm really excited because so I've I've invested many hours into StarCraft because it's a long game. There's you know, all right ten missions per faction, and until I got to the produces, I was really playing them and they were taking about half hour to an hour, uh so maybe twenty hours into StarCraft. And so I'm really excited now to finish that up, go through brewd work, because I don't think I ever finished that back in the day. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff in StarCraft I didn't remember, which I'm really happy to see again, Like, oh yeah, I didn't know that happens in this because all I remember from StarCraft and Moratorium's over you know tacit drives his ship into the hive and then builds. Right, yeah, they over mind. So I'm super psyched because I've gotten used to the graphics and StarCraft now like like for me, it might as well be nineteen ninety eight or whatever, and like that's just the resolution everything is, this is how it works. So I've just Studio Games looking at StarCraft two stuff, and so I can boot it out and be like, wow, wow, nineteen ninety nine is incredible, holy crapt it's pretty coloring, pons emit light like that's crazy, uh, and all like the improvements. The biggest one I am looking forward to is being able to select more than like, so, have you played any of the StarCraft two yet? I did. I played about three missions, but okay, it was so long ago for what we're talking about StarCraft two, so you basically didn't play for it enough to where it gets good. No, Like I didn't even know it's got the whole game opened up, but I think the cantina and then I stopped because StarCraft stopped me from playing StarCraft two, And like that's how long? How long would you say the StarCraft one StarCraft one single player campaign? Well, you know, it really missions. It really depends on how you play, and since I play super slowly, yeah, you know, let's just say thirty hours. Okay, but you could probably tear through it if you're really good and like eat or something like that. Like I build up like super huge forces and I'm I'm not very tactical, so I just like crash against the rocks with my huge force and then make way too many dudes and then them against the wrong unit, and like I took out one of them, let's build up another hundred. Yeah all right, she liked to play strategy. Without strategy, I've gotten better. Yeah, so it's towards the end. It was very very rewarding for me. I use shortcut keys. So how many stars do you give StarCraft? How many? How many crafts would I StarCraft Craft? StarCraft the first one, it's like easily five stars. Yeah, like literally, I'm enjoying it as much as I probably will StarCraft too, I assume like today, which is saying a lot twelve years later. Yeah, that game pretty good. The stupid missions are stupid. Still, it's a lot of stupid missions. The ones where you're like two units, now go through this ship building. The ones like that and StarCraft two were actually done. Those are some of the best we're done. They're done much more effectively than than any other. Even more excited to get into that game before. Probably those are people in the know called those installation missions. Sure, installation missions suck. And I'm also really hardy escort missions of rts used to be until this game. Yeah, and now they're awesome. I'm really curious to see how they'll do the Zerg campaign and StarCraft Tube say that now, like finish the game first, man, Look if you guys finished well, because so they have the Cerebrits speaking back and forth to you in in StarCraft, cerebrates. Cerebrits like a little lieutenants, basically colors but basically a little like talking fleshy potatoes. Yeah, so like the lumps of flesh talking. And then the overmind is an eyeball right, So it's like those things just talk to you and with they're like, you know, done up voice. And you know, in StarCraft Won all the exposition from that stuff took place on those stupid little monitors, those little television monitors, so I don't know what. And all the cut scenes when you're watching the Zerk have no video at all because they're just Zerg ships flying around and it's all I'm gonna guess they're trying to evoke that you're like getting the essence of the hive mind or whatever. You're seeing these images happening from around. So when you get to walk around in the Zerg campaign like that going to be like, are you gonna think They said that like the two other games, the out of mission stuff isn't necessarily going to be like that at all. What they referred to as the meta game. They have said it is going to be super different. No, really, there's some there's some rumor going around that the Zurg one's gonna be more hang up this microphone, I would. I'm like people basically been mining quotes from interviews, uh and have somehow determined that the Zurg one is going to be like an RPG somehow. I have no idea. Nah, who knows? You guys should finish this campaign so we can ask I am. I am on the mission where I'm like maybe sixteen missions in or something like that, where fire burns from left to right across the map. And that's the first one I lost because I was playing super fucking sloppy and deserve to lose. You got to move your buildings, and that one I was moving them. But I was moving them. I don't know. I just wasn't pumping up out enough units. So at the end I was basically just like couldn't generate enough units to get to the thing in time, and it was right down to the wire and I lost, and I was super pissed and said, I'm never gonna play it again again. Is it auto save during the missions? Are there are there checkpoints in StarCraft two for object? Yes? It does. Yeah, but I will probably start that mission from scratch, because if I just start playing the right way from the beginning and I actually care about wait more prepared to build stuff properly, it won't be an issue. That's that's the experience I started having gone hard where I had to play through the whole thing and fail to figure out what to do from the beginning to actually beat it. Oh yeah, it's kind of like StarCraft one. There's definitely a lot of missions like that I've been going through. I'm like, oh, okay, now I know where all the basses are, I know what kind of units you're gonna throw out me I can build appropriately to prepare for those rushes and whatever I was gonna do. Like I was just I wasn't building any base defense because I figured I'm just gonna have to lift off and leave it there anyway. So anytime anyone would any time they would attack my bass, I would just take the forces back there and deal with it instead of having those forces continue to press FORWD. You gotta just lazy play, just like you gotta be real aggressive on that mission about clearing their bases so you can take the middles. Yeah, StarCraft, so yeah, I just want to hear what you guys think the zer game will be after you see what happened. Okay, at the end of this game, Karagan strip poker Touch Maaster eight hundred thousand, thousand thousands. But her name won't be Kerrigan. It'll be like ke Kegrin again, and she'll be the Queen of Blades three of a Cone Sephany, but spy, I believe was how it was spelled. So about thirty missions away and about eight hundred books from starting, I'm got red the fiction christ. I looked it up because I was gone a lot of StarCraft books. I was gonna start playing them on like books on tape during the mission because I just turned I turned the music off and play my own music, which is a way a better way to play that game at music it's boring. After a while, I was like, I might as well be listening to StarCraft while I'm playing these and I looked it up. First of all, they're not they're no audio books. Second of all, there's like ten fifteen StarCraft books, and I'm never gonna play StarCraft two. No, I think I'm just gonna skip the books one of them. If you at some point it just becomes too much. It's like, I don't I don't care that much. I don't want that much stress gonna happen here will matter? Yeah, you don't want to read the epic tale of the Heavens Devils. Well, there's like the Queen of Blades books. Yeah, yeah, but they're alreatten by different authors too, and I don't know. At some point it just becomes like, I see that you're just making money now from this and this isn't really about telling the story. You should just play star Well. It's weird. I mean, they actually trivialize the events of bred War. It's almost like it doesn't matter, Like stuff happens, but not like the introduced medics. That history lesson that they give you during the installed StarCraft two stops at the end of StarCraft. But if he doesn't even in the manual. If you read the manual, it's like way more detailed right, we've had this conversation with Yeah, exact conversations already happened, so we're not talking now come around full circle and nome, we're talking about Star there's what that is, like the only game that matters that's out right now. Also, how much multiplayer have you played? How many matches have you played this time? I stopped playing league matches because I'm trying to learn zir No. So basically playing unranked Free for Alls, which is a fucking shit show, like Free for All is Free for All is basically you get rushed in the first ninety seconds or you turtle for twenty minutes, and you randomly see messages pop up as players get like kicking, like oh yeah, beats whether they find you. Yeah, so like you either get attacked first or last, and it's just super weird dynamic, but it's good for can you can you build? It? Is the alliance stuff in there? Now? You can you like form just kind of alliances? I didn't even try. I'm sure you could. There's oh man, there's also a lot of very bad manners and Free for All, I'm sure a lot of racial epithets flying around. Stuff pretty rough. I'm just I'm just glad you're playing StarCraft because you are in a great position to appreciate everything that's better. Yeah, I can't wait. I'm really like the really excited now, like way more than before I started playing StarCraft one, because now it's gonna turn my world upset. It's just yeah, you know, it's always good for games. It's heightened expectations. It's sure that it always pays off, like get really really excited for before you play it, and then you play it, and then it meets and exceeds expectations. Every single game I ever made, it always does that. So it's it's my advice to you is sure do exactly what you're doing, okay, and then played I'll just played Diablo for the hell of it, played some odd nation racers just kind of randomly. They patched it recently, could befold me? Yeah, well so they did they claim that they did? Did they did they pass it? Since our T and T right, Yeah, so maybe there was like a billion patches that were going on on my PlayStation because it's the first game I've also put my PlayStation in about a month. Because you said because it's on my PlayStation, Well, so like At some point, I literally thought it was patching back and forth, like it's going from like version one point zero three to one point zero two back to one point because it was just like patch after patch, it's just fucking up, Like am I just like like patch loop? Yeah, like a a horrible patch loop. And eventually it's stopped, like after about an hour. So it was terrible, and then you know it's it's patching the firmware, then it's patching the store version, it's patching the action game of it is patching the games online, and then it's like all these different revisions of points download patches and then install patches, and those are two separate progress bars. It was a big bummer, Like I sat down and I was gonna show my wife and then she just left after pretty cool, right, Oh watch true Blood? By all right, I win shit because you don't have to watch True Blood. So that game is really fun except for the really long lived time and maybe it's not as long it was Duaranty and it is a little fast. Some people said that longer in some cases, but h and some other people said they're short most It seemed like most people are reporting their shorter but it's still like over a minute to get in a race, so it's still of infinity. Is still infinities They said thirty percent improvement, fifty percent improvement. Yeah, I think so, okay, but that game is like when you're in the game, it's it's fun. And I like the cart racing, so there's that it should put down in the back of the box. I like the cart racing. Uh, And I think that's about It was really a StarCraft weekend for me. Oh dude, StarCraft, tell me about what tier are you in? Okay? So, yeah, I'm afraid you're playing on ranked. You're free to take my zer game in the league. You won't. I don't want to sully my Will you eventually drop out of Platinum if you don't play? Does it work like that or you just get the bottom of Really wondered about that because so when I placed on the Platinum, I came in at number four in my division, and I woke up the next morning I was number twenty two. Okay, I guess you if there's if there's a kind of a relative scale, I guess if everybody starts getting better win ratios than you, you guess. I guess it's possible that you could get pushed in the lower lower league, but I mean it makes sense, like you don't want someone like Front and Diamond League, and yeah, I mean I think I'm still at number sixteen on the Ultimate MK three leaderboards on Xbox three sixty. I mean, they would get pushed to the bottom of their league, like they would end up at the bottom of Diamond with the question is would they then drop in the play I get that. I'm saying, like, even if they're at the bottom of Diamond League, they're still repping Diamond even though yeah, it's true, been maintaining themselves and like the Diamond League has gotten better. If I'm not theory, all of these all of these leagues are going to get better and better. That's absolutely happening, especially if they patch stuff and make changes to it. Sure, if there's balance changes that happen. I mean, yeah, as evidenced by me dropping like fifteen spots in a night. Yeah, like it definitely happens. But that's like a bad gambling night. Well I dropped keys. I mean, I think the rankings are in serious they're they're in serious flux right now because people are still placing into the game is still new. Yeah, it's probably gonna take at least another month before everything kind of equalizes. But so I am I am too proud to beg up. Yes, I ain't too proud to playzer Wait, I am too proud to plays online competitive and they're in the ranking. Yeah, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna risk silly in my record with at a race that's I'm not so good with it. I am Mac Kessler right. I'm surprised that they don't have separate ladders ladders race. Some people have asked for that, but I don't. Integration, man, It's not about separate their own drinking fountain. Actually, that's not a bad idea because if you've ever seen a fountain, don't get me wrong, you know there, you're one of the good one of the good ones. That's what I'm saying. You're a good er. You're playing way towards the Spider. Spider Man moved it repositioned itself after Spider. What huh? What's up? Did you guys? Need? I was sleeping planning your demise, I mean taking up Spider. Go get me something to drink o worset intern than Kessler oh yeah, Kesler not even moving, Kesler playing StarCraft. Yeah, he's a Darty. He just got into silver. He's played like he's played like one hundred and fifty matches sixty something last check yesterday. But I guess the system works because he is at literally almost a one to one win loss ratio, like he was like a D sixty games played and like eighty two one or something. So here's it is also our last week of Kessler's true, we're almost we're almost out of intern wear them down a little bit more to the numb. I'll miss him. We'll need a new one. Since there's something else video game related, just an anecdote more than when I play. You were there for this, Ryan. I opened up my jous cabinet to put in that power supply as easy as I thought it was going to be, and said, nope, nope, I can't do this. Then started bringing up schematics and just say this morning at your desk, you had you had a voltmeter and it was so easy. Electrical step instructions they provided all five of the steps, sawder something super easy, put this pin on, do this, and then the last step is where I got muddled up. There are two ac leads that come out of the power supply that you need to tap into existing ac leads in the cabinet, So you need to find the ac leads that are going to the monitor or coming out of the transformer or whatever. And that's when I was like, dude, I don't know. I thought it would be super easy, like I'll just follow the ac leads that go to the monitor. That Jazz cabinet is probably twenty years old. Everything is brown and coated with so yeah, it's just like I'm kind of gross in there. But all there's like a billion wires on the back of the monitor and like, you know, nothing, you should be careful with that stuff. That's well, so the only thing to trifle with the only thing I'm worried about is is is touching the capacitor on the charge for a while. So machine has been off for about two weeks two and a half weeks, so I don't know how long it takes to discharge. I'm not too worried about that. I am more worried about electric and myself and also breaking the machine. So we'll figure it out. I don't know, maybe next week on better News, just start capping those things into everything. I hope it works. Did you contact guy? I didn't contact the guy, but I will. Maybe she'd reach out to guy. What will you do? I might clean it first, Okay, might that might be my next step before I do that. There's a lot of dust. Just say cleaning it sounds like a great way to break it. Oh, you're just rubbing alcohol on everything? Well, I mean, any anything that you would think to do to break it or to clean it seems like it would also be a perfect way. I was just gonna put it in the dishwash and take the boards out and put them in the dishwah. As long as you let it draw completely, it's totally say yeah, great idea. So I just put put any soap in there and just run it. There's there's my story, excellence. Well, I wish you better luck in the future with your your old ass arcade machine. It's been fun so far. Learn a lot. I like learning. It's fun. Schematics, schematics, hand drawn schematics, schemos. What, Jeff, did you play anything else we're talking about here? No, Friday, I played some StarCraft two And how's that? What's about? That's pretty good. It's like space but like space bugs and all right, Brad space nobility, Bradley, Hi Brad, how's it going pretty good? I'm not going to talk to you about StarCraft. Why don't gonna talk to you about some other stuff? How about if you and I talk to each other about the same thing, that same thing being Metroid other M oh god, which we went to Nintendo last week. Yeah, we can't talk about we can talk to each other. I want to hear too. That's totally for you. For this is for the two people that were there. I forgot to think about that. I played that game before. Can I sort of talk about it? Sure, you saw some of the same stuff that we did. I'm the other M. Can I talk about it? I don't know what the M stands for for you? My stands for Vinny. Okay, that is another kind of M. I will say a M. It's that's that's some kind of MS, like a half of M but upside down. Yeah, it's like parts of an M looks like some other M M by any other day. See the alphabet right there, other M O P. I think who's that as the other other M? We need a double M be the twenty seventh letter M double mm, so what happened with the other M? Who is the other M? Break this mystery? Metroid? No? But who's the other M? Metro Marvin mother Brain? I don't know. Do you think they're all actually be metroids in this game? I do? I mean there have been entire Metroid games without metroids. I know, just the Primes right, Well, yeah, I think Prime too, Wait have no metroids if I remember. I'm sure, I'm almost positive. I see people typing emails already. They probably are always, but I see that email constantly as we talk here, just like I just you can see someone clack of the clack clack. You guys don't know what you're talking about. Actually, actually, our correction emails are very gracious and usually just like it's it's the correction comments that are very garlous pricks. No one speaks that eloquently in our comments. So, yeah, Jeff, you had seen Metroid other end before we did. I played like maybe the first and and you kind of struggled with describing it to us. Yeah, and after seeing it and playing some of it, I totally get why it's a weird fucking game. Screen and a subscreen game, because when I played it, that stuff wasn't in. I mean, there there was the mini. All of it was in. There was a mini was a tool like pausemticen around and it even marks hidden items on that map. But you don't even know, weird, you don't even need that much. It seemed like it seemed like that game was very much about like pointing you in the direction of here is the next objective as of about an hour in the game. Yeah, I'm hoping that it opens up more than that, because Metroid is a lot about exploration. I don't think that's the game. I don't know, it's very well may not be, and I mean, yeah, no, No. The thing is, I don't think this is like, other than some of the weapons systems that they put into place and kind of the fiction that they're that they're using, this bears very little resemblance to a traditional Metroid game. I don't think that's a bad thing. That's not you know, that's not the kind of game that Team Ninja the developer makes. Well. I mean, I think I think you bring those guys on because you want a specific kind of character action, and it does have that absolutely in fact, although there are I think even you pointed out there are points like once you started triangle jumping up narrow corridors, Like you say that like it's weird you say that because I got no sense that this was like any kind of Team Ninja game when I played it. Really, Yeah, I mean most like a heavy melee component to it, such the way that it's like there's something methodical to Metroid for me, and I got none of that out of what I saw of other m Well, the character action field came from the crowd control that's inherent in a lot of the combat. Like there are a lot of cases where you're fighting like six or eight ads at one time, and it's like you either want to get distanced and like auto aim out of more were good first person and then you can shoot a missile which does splash damage. You can kill multiple enemies at once, or if you get right up on them, you can do like a kind of scripted kill move what like. So the side hoppers, like the two legged hoppy things, yeah, the one for those, I assume they're different for every enemy because it's there. It's like a canned animation that gets into like you literally like jump onto the back of this thing and like put your gun right up against head and just shoot it. Now it's weird. Yeah, so it's a lot of weird. It's a lot of upclose, like you know, scripted combat moves like you'd see in a game the how did the like when you're shooting from a distance, it's still auto aims at the stuff in front of you, right, yea, yeah, holy shit moved it's on the ceiling. Now, Oh my god, you're a bunch of fucking pussies. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. This is about eighty percent affectation. If you didn't it is unbelievable. And this is zero percent affectation, right, all right, what were we talking about? I don't know talking about when I saw it. If there were like eight of those little guys in front of you and you pound on the button, it would shoot them all, it would. But there was no change in the animation. So the beams were just coming out of the gun at different angles, and it looked kind of well, you're talking about the way she holds her like she just held her arm and didn't aim at them with the arms. Because the beams came out of the game. I didn't remember if it was like that. I don't think it was it. It didn't look weird, coudn't leap out. It's okay, good because things looking at us like, dude, this game can't be done. It is in fact not done. And there are also dodge moves. There's like a real specific climbing based when they're about to hit you if you hit the right direction I mean, which whis weird about that? You mash the dodge button to stay safe for us, it's not a dodge but or whatever it was, I was dodging d like if I did that. Yeah, if you're timing is good, you can. But it's not just all It wasn't mash on well what what was the command to do it? No, it's just one of the direction buttons. And you can totally match I wash, yeah, I was matching like crazy. Yeah, just roll around. She just well, you get like a little green flash when you do it successfully, and it kind of slows down for like half a beat. She just like flips out of the way. She's kind of Yeah. If you basically if you tap the move, tap on the dpad like repeat, on it. Yeah, yeah, because because you have to just otherwise you have to like hold to move in any direction. But if you're constantly tapping, you're in close quarters and this is outside of that third person view. Yeah, you're almost always in the third person view. You have to. So this is the weirdest part about this game is that if you want to go to first person view, you straight up like hold the we remote towards the TV like it's pointed at it. Yeah, it's kind of weird and awkward because you're holding it asn't like an NES controller. So the right hand that would be going up to the trigger the B button is like on the very end of the controller, so when you vertically you're holding it by the tail end of the controller or not, like you're not choked up on it with your hand up around this. That stuff have to happen really quickly or is there like a it's pretty quick, but it seems like it's kind of That's the design is they don't want to make it so easy for you to go into first person mode because you are extremely powerful in first person mode. You do these, but you also don't move. Yeah, it's a risk rewards this it's you know, you want to get far enough away for it to work. It's still freaking awkward. It's still a weird, a weird decision to make. And then also like the holding the yeah we remote vertically, what happened? It happens during that It's okay. Yeah, there's it between all that stuff and and just the way that you're using a dpads you only have like eight way movement. Yeah. Yeah, like an all control would be really welcome. And care's some some really jankie looking stuff about that because it is emotion plus enabled, not even unchucking able. Yeah, I wouldn't need that just for the fidelity of the cursor on the screen. Man, that's not necessary. I mean it felt aiming, felt fine to me. I don't know what I got one. I want to use it for something. Yeah, you know you got we Sports Resort. Yeah, you play some of that. You have the first and last game that will ever need Yeah whatever, the game first, first and last, and which is just you know, go brush all the dust off your we speak because I'm sure there's a ton of we speak incredible games coming out first and last. But I mean there are a lot of Metroid esque elements to this game besides the calm. Yeah, I definitely like like some of the corridors, like or that vertical shaft early on I thought, look pretty good. You do totally roll up into a ball and go in a little and go in little things, and those look exactly like Metroid Prime to my memory. Yeah, which is really super close up the ball, like practically the screen just rapidly rolling along. Dude, Uh, does you get any sense for like what the story is or doesn't matter? After Super Metroid? Yeah, before Metroid Fusion, I want to say between those two. Yeah, and we saw that cut scene where it's like Samu's is the space baby what like, it's like infant Sammy's floating in space and they basically remake the end of Super Metroid. But then there's it's yeah, all and CG kind of opening, which was something that which it looks like it looks sort of like the two thousand and one Star Child, right, baby SAMs and fetal position like folding in space and it opens up on her eyes and she's there in the fight with in the moment. Yeah, And then maybe I don't, but maybe you're getting confused because yeah, yeah, she keeps talking about yeah, the baby and not seeing the baby again, and you were not effing around when you said that there was some issues with the voice acting in that game. Jeff, Yeah, she's she's she's pretty flat. It's some of that stuff. Is it some straight out of that's that's some straight out of Japan anime special voice? Well, yeah, a little flat. I didn't think the other characters were terrible, but she's she They should have just got the guy that said the last Metroid is in captivity the galaxy? Is that peace? Uh? Yeah, I don't know. I don't have like a deep personal relationship with Metroid, so like I just kind of saw like, oh, this is I don't know, okay, looking kind of odd, little you know, third persons, strange milage with some Metroid stuff on it. So this is pretty like dark Sammis stuff. Oh yeah, well that's all Prime. That's that's all that. When the fusions to or isn't, it's like impossible. It was like the Primes. I cannot help you about the Metroid timeline. I don't know. It's kind of like Exelda, like is there a timeline? I think they're actually, I mean they're it's it's kind of like, yeah, maybe there will be a mother Brown. I don't know. I mean I found like, what two missile lep grades three in that demo. Yeah, you found some Did I get an energy tank? I think you just got missile tanks? So I mean there's definitely items to find. They're kind of hdden, But at the same time, I felt like the ones that were in that early area were kind of obvious. They were just sort of there to see. So did you guys play from the kind of the beginning? They yeah, they did you see the part where the guys like, I will not give you clearance to use the POE. They spelled that out. They talked to us about how like, yeah, you'll have some stuff that they're meeting out the power out. There no abilities in this game. You're you're working for some well, the government. When you're doing the tutorial. You use a power bomb during the tutorial, so Space Government is basically saying, hey, you're working for us, so you can only bust out the crazy shit when we say it's okay. But she's got it, she's got He's got it all in the suit. She's just not using it and she could die without using it. That's right, Brad almost did. That was close. Yeah, I mean that was It was like a mini boss fight that involved going to first person a lot, So yeah, there was a boss thought I was in was it was like that too. It was like getting distance so you could go the first person a lock on a weak spot. Yeah, it just felt Yeah that that stuff didn't feel good when you're the first person. You see a reflection in the glass, like the citizen came a videos citizen. No, welcome to my porn. Only did your word play not work, but also you don't see the check my pants. There's a spider in there. Now. You guys are fucking actually to leave this room though, Oh I see it. I think he was not as grippy as he thought he was. You have another thirty minutes of podcasts on the floor and I could kill it. Yeah. He just fell off getting fall off, he landed play cool. He's laughing so hard. My citizen came joke. He just fell right up. I just can smell bear. It's gonna be It's gonna be like a forty five minute podcast because of you assholes and your spider pet spider. That's so good. Sweet. Then I can go play Monday I Combat. Tell me about that way. When is the date on the metroid? Oh yeah, we can, but we got it. Oh can we talk about it coming out of the month? Thirty first September August something. No, it's it's early September. It's like seven Sectemo, It's it's into August. They push it back again. No, no, no, I'm saying it's that weekend though, So I think it's the thirty first Sunday. I wasn't thirty first as it? Well whatever, I think it's like the twee end of the months the internet at home or look at Jampo dot com soon soon. So what happened with Monday Night Combat? We got it? What's what is it all about? Played a little bit? Played it on Monday night. That's a Monday day. Actually yeah yeah, I'm gonna totally gonna go home and play that game on Monday night. It's the only night you can play service early the kind of some kind of special things play on Mondays on Mondays. Yeah, dude, that's that would be great, guessing No, no, no, there is persistent like profile level ranking as well. What do you do? What what's the combat Uh so the I played After the Sun Goes Down. I only put about twenty minutes into it, and Jeff, I think you played it for like five or ten. Yeah. Yeah, so I don't know whats ton here, but the core con seat seems to be Team Fortress two meets Defense of the Ancients third person. Though it's third person, it's six on six. Ok I don't know enough about DODA to make that comparison. It just seemed like third person Tower Defense in a way. Yeah, except shoot also out of tower to Okay, that makes sense. I mean the way it's like DODA is that there are creep waves from for each team, like meeting in the middle fighting and the robots in this case, like the human players are humans and the AI creeps are robots. Is there a co op element to it? Then? Yeah, it was team based, I mean, but well, well there's also there's there's there's a one team versus AI mode and a two teams. Even in the two team modes, there's still that that creep Yeah, because it's like, just like a DODA, the creeps are essentially fodder for you to level up your character with, Like you're killing those things and getting money in this case, and you can spend that pretty much use that turn you can use to buying upgrade turrets around the levels. So that's one of the things. Kind of stuff things I'm kind of concerned about is that you have one wallet and you can either spend that money on your personal upgrades or you can spend it on like team defenses, like the turrets. Right, So I'm afraid everybody, like it seems like most games that are like that, everybody just upgrades themselves like we don't want to put them. Also, it seems like, I mean, each you have basically have four stats upgrade and they only go from level one to levels, so it seems like you old as yourself out pretty early on if you if you do play that way. So, but I mean, there's there's six classes. They all have different special abilities, four kinds of turrets. Yeah, there is. There's I mean, this class was actually just called support. It's kind of weird. There's there's like support, there's a salt, there's a sniper and a sass heavy. There is a heavy I don't think he's called I think he's called a tank tank and got or I think or the other two. So I have to say that when you said I've become so used to hearing DODA that I had took me when you said defense, I'm like defensive the Ancients. No, Doda, I said. It was like the screenshot or whatever that came out of Valve of Defense of the Ancients that made me realize that that's what that's so for like last week. But I don't know that I was conscious. It's yeah, yeah, so used to DODA. What is the screenshot like from ice Frog working on whatever, DODA and source Engine whatever something like that. Yeah, jeez, yeah, but I only played one match online. It seems super hectic, like it's just tons of stuff flying at you all the time. I mean maybe that's kind of the whole thing is said against like you know, weird future game show. So it's kind of like the grid. Yeah, there's an announcer, it's an arena. There's like Smash TV advertiser. Not quite that dire though, not that Yeah, I'm not as just as fighting as it's more just like, yea, whatever, are you gonna ask something about like tutorial or something? No? I assumed are you gonna ask about that? No? I was just gonna say about the Defense of the Ancients and DODA thing. I was gonna ask about some sort of single player thing. Yes, there's you can play. Where is it like I can do it? Oh my god? Yeah? And then the fund's over. Don't even if there's a spot on the bottom of the shoe. How do you know he's dad? Don't you know the first rule about killing monsters man, you gotta make sure he's dead. Moving on now he's now he is. You're gonna look back there. It's gonna be like Michael Myers and he's gone. You're like, oh, fuck, did I did watch Night on Elm Streets Weekendraginal first one, Tiny Little Mache was craven original. Viney has some thoughts about the original. I've never seen that. I've never seen any of those movies. First one's not bad. The second one is a little cheesy. I don't know. I mean maybe the practical effects are not. So we're talking about Halloween Night. Yeah, you I know, Vinny, you have your specific love of mom getting snatched through the door. Through the door. That was dude, how did they pull that off? Like? Oh, if you watch in slow mo, you'll see like a really bad watch. He's very hilarious to watch that scene frame by frame to his retrospective on nightmar on Elm Street. Yeah, that's right, he did that. That was one of the first things screen dot com did was the Nightmare. I was really just pointed that only that one is on Netflix streaming NHD too, just one of the first one and new Nightmare I thought about watching. That's not super different though, it is, but it's pretty good. It's interesting. There's no like real important continuity there, right, No, but it's it's kind of like it's West Cravens step. It's it's how he made Scream basic right right, It's it's almost like sort of meta horror. Oh, it's super meta, like it's about making a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie, except now Freddy has become for you. Oh no, it's yeah, dude, it's it's not fucking Lord of the Rings. You don't need to worry about continuity from one film to the next. I heard Nancy pops up like three more times a bunch of teens get murdered in their sleep. That is every single one. It's a little more it's a little more contiguous, but you don't need it. I almost really don't need it. I almost want to wait, make it into like a vision quest or just watch them all in order. Sure, dude, I got him. We did. We did that seriously. Still okay, Yeah, just like Netflix or something. No, no, I have to capture all that stuff. It's fifty seven thousand movies. Maybe I don't like. I don't like them. They think creep me out? Oh like grows. You know, you don't like the bed Blood Fountain. I mean I knew that was coming. That was the one, like the one scene I have seen. But it's so good, it's so iconic, you know, it's hard to miss there. But they go through the whole Dream Warriors part. That whole section of the series is terrible. Dream was dreaming, dream and Dreams. No, it's Dream Warriors, dream Master, dream Child. I was always under the impression the four was like the best one. Three, the Dream Warrior that's the one. The soundtrack, it's the most, yes, the best soundtrack most, it's the most like a action It's it's more of an action movie than it is a horror movie. It's real. It's it's kind of like you know Aliens, Aliens where it's like, all right, We're pulling together a fucking posse and doing this sounds pretty awesome. The dream Warriors, you know, they get their special superpowers when they're in the Nightmareland, but they last like a second. Yeah, they still all get smoked. Because are there any notable future stars in that movie, like like the Johnny Depp and the first one is introducing hy Bras and Arquetta. There's always there's an there's an arcade. I can't remember which one, but is she she's in three? She's the girl in three. I thought she was in four. No, I think she's the main girl in three. She's angry emails. She's the one who can bring the Warriors into her dream like assemble them all, okay, because she said also they replaced her I think with some other woman as the dream Master. I don't know. And then somebody has a baby, and then there's like Freddy Krueger in the Womb. Maybe I won't watch all of these anyway. Yeah, there's a single player mode. Is that the cross Fire. There's a cross Fire and there's Blitz and cross Fire is the the There are two teams of humans and there's only one team of Blitz. Was no because there's there's also local blitz, which is just where it's you against AI. So yeah, the single team one is essentially tower defense. It's just waves or creeps coming at you and you build it. If you are a guy and you can shoot, you can shoot yourself. How do you tell what, say, amount a team of six? How do I tell what everybody's doing? So I don't place like a tower right next to you. You don't place towers. There's just spots on the lap that you find on the to activate the note. Okay, okay, it seems like it could be really cool, but it's got a good visual style. It's gonna require. I mean, if if that game gains a foothold and you know, is played online, I think it could do. Okay, it seems neat, it seems need at least this is the end of the summer of our cater Actually we have Laura Croft and the Guardian of like Last, that's the final entry. But this, yeah, tentatively, the seems no with no online co op and Lara Croft Lacroft is launching, is no Last launching without it, they're gonna say, they'll say they'll have it patched in by the time it comes to PC and p S three in the end of September at all from Microsoft. The whole exclusivity period is kind of like like here you go, here's like not the version of the game you want to play, and by the time you had that patch, everyone will be done with it. It's too bad because I wonder how that game seemed real neat every time they showed it. They in fact showed it running on like two screens, So it's like, I wonder how hard that code is? Then? Know, that's weird, Like wouldn't that be like the at the top of the to do list for that game? Think the whole thing is a co op focused game. I just wondered. Yeah, I wonder how that came to be. I don't know. I bet there's a story there somewhere, story that story that no one can tell, not at least for another fifteen years. There's gonna be some great video game industry tell all books O man or like kind of seeing like some of the books about like the early Atari era. So it's when people when people aren't looking for work and none of the people they're writing stories about how many of the jobs anymore? Though they were then like you'll have like this flurry of like fifteen inside rock Star. Tell me how many developers could you name off top of your head that you would totally read a tell all book about. Like, there's gotta be a ton It's definitely only six seven eight. It's gotta be at least it does. It doesn't Probably what is that tissue? Yeah? What are you using that thing? It's on the floor. I wiped the spider guts off my shoe with it. I don't know if you want to touch it. I'm just gonna use it to pick up dead Boy over here. I'll clean it up to worry it's bumming. It's taking Vide's focus even further. Then Live Spider what, I'll pick it up with your your You see the chaos that you have wrought. It's got spider guts all over it. So I got clean up a mess. Are we just gonna take a spider break? Nor? Is this a wet because it had a hard boiled egg in it before? So that thing smells like egg and spider? Yeah, because I all right, Vinny, well, well he's walking out. I'll talk about a game, Okay. I have been getting my my strategy needs filled elsewhere while y'all been playing lots of starcrafts raid well not not by choice. I keep I keep getting games from companies. They keep sending them to me. It's like, here, you should, you should look at these, all right, I'll check out Civilization five, which I did for good sixteen hours. And we have a kick ass retrospective video up on the site now, kind of showing off some SI four and some SIEV rev and so uh so, Yeah, I played a bunch of SEF five. It's real good. They've they've taken the kind of the complexity of civil four and the accessibility of Civilization Revolution their console game and made it go into one thing. So it's like it it has all the depth that crazy Sieve kids want, but it's like really easy to approach. And they've add stuff like city states, which are like not on like non civilization Basically there's there's oh and you can like you can with them, with them, you can actually take them over or you know, there's there's kind of other tactical and strategic considerations with the city states. There's still barbarians, which you can just go and fuck up because they're barbarians. Better than do they know, can the barbarians get like battleships now, but I'm sure barbarians can get ships. They can't get ships. Technology I've never seen you know what, I haven't seen anyone with nuclear technology yet. Uh so far, I've actually kind of been at the top of my Uh combat doesn't have the military food chain. Doesn't it remove their barbarians status when they flop technology? You could be barbaric and still have technology, I don't know, splitting hairs at that point? Uh, you know, isn't it a greater consideration of like why does one country have like railroads but still fights with spears? Like yeah, we Yeah, the anachronisms of civilization are alive and well and SIV five like none of that stuff has gone away. Both you also have like George Washington facing off against Cleopatra, and George Washington lives for six thousand years. That's that's accurate. If you want to go after this, how are you finding hexes? Absolutely absolutely no different, absolutely no different. Yeah. I'm sure that people who are big on you could move diagonally. So yeah, so the fewer sides now, right, yeah, because you had eight before, right, gliding the diagonals on the square. Right, if you can go to the sides and the points of a square and the hecks has six right, yeah, so now there are fewer places you can move, right. I think they were describing it like this helps make the terrain look more realistic, and it just seemed better too, because they don't expose the grid, right, they don't expose the hexes at least when I was watching you play, not not like you can and there is a tactical view that you can go into to fully expose the no I like changes the map completely. You actually see the world in completely different perspective when you're in the tactical map, which is more for like judging what resources are going to be on what hexes. And again, I'm sure there are other good, like high level strategic reasons for going to hexes, but nothing has has leapt out at me as being a big I'm glad to see her. You're getting way into a big difference, man. No, it's it's brutal. It's brutal. How it's the it's the anti StarCraft. And you know StarCraft has super short missions that you bust through, uhpecially special watch it down for eight hours crazy, you know, not do anything else that's crazy. High levels of StarCraft play matches can be less than ten minutes and you're sitting there for like an entire night like you're having you're having to split matches up across days, like and enjoying it. It's crazy, enjoying it thoroughly like it's it's it's still very very fun. But yeah, it's a completely different type of thing, you know. And they it just seems like they've gotten a lot smarter with the way the the UI stuff works, Like just things are more intuitive. They're better about having your advisors give you useful information and kind of guiding you in one direction or another. Uh, I will say, watching just the brief thing we did, Yeah, the animation seemed with snappier, like I don't know if it's just made. But between Sieve four it's s I five. No skipping over civ rev because I didn't play much of that. Yeah, like once when you kill a guy, they look really dramatic. When the when the cannons fire off your ship, it's punchy, like it doesn't like its standering quality, that kind of sive forehead. And no, there's there's definitely some some pop to the action that seemed like they wanted to make it a little more visually interesting. THCBEI four was. I will say this, I end up playing a whole bunch of of Siva Rev over the weekend, and again after playing a bunch of five and before civ Rev not having really played any civilization at all. It was blown away by how much they had to just strip out for civ Rev. I was just like, I remember thinking like, oh, this is a pretty good, you know, strategy experience. It's pretty deep, and dude, this is this is pansy. This is for little revs, for children sipping on your your teacups afraid of spiders and moppets. Right, the rest of the boys are coming that spiders are descending everybody. Everyone's looking in the corners all paranoid. They could just come out of the air vents if they're just pain I'm pouring out of it to come any points of ingress and they're all just came through white and they're actually just all on the wall that vent wall off this room. I still played a whole drop dropped two supply depots and the racks on your ramps, so the spiders can't get in here. Wait Rev, why would you do that? I still played a bunch of of civ Rev, but and you know, it's still good, but it's impressive. The impression that left on me is that, man, they have gotten excellent at explaining the basics of this game with CIV five because I, you know, I didn't know anything about a lot of the elements there, but I was still able to just pick it up immediately and didn't feel like, oh, this is all new. Like I almost felt like, oh, yeah, I remember all this from siv REV and I went and played and siv Rev Like that's not in there at all. That's good. I mean, it seems like they need to bring new players to Sieve to justify keeping it as like a PC focused franchise. Absolutely, And the point that they made to me during during one of my sessions with that game is that the folks are two k Actually, some of the folks that for Access they have the same UI guy that worked on civ Rev working on CIV five, and they said that they learned a lot even even to bring back to the PC version. They learned a lot about good UI from making siv Rev just because of the limitations of you know, how much can you show on screen? You have to make what you're showing on the screen count. And yeah, I think SIV five is definitely even more intuitively and intelligently looks good designed than REV was. It's just it's nice to see in the light of the existence of sid REV on consoles. And then last week's discussion about Battlefield three, right, like seeing this is still like, yes, this is a PC franchise. What genius is that they say, Okay, yes this is a PC franchise, But just because we have every key available and we have the maximum resolution available, doesn't mean that we need to clutter up everything with bullshit Like it's you can make a PC game that takes advantage of being on a PC, but it is still approachable. And I think that's the that's a hard balance to find and and I feel like those facts, especially with a strategy games such as because there's a dude, there's so much going on in that goddamn game. It is so complicated. I just get Gunpowder win games so complated. Nice with everybody build some art, that's more. I'm a culture guy. I definitely prefer playing to culture I love. I don't. I don't like plan to shooting dudes because I can't win that game. Well you know what, I don't actually like playing shooting military Victory. But I definitely like getting the guns first and then bullying people around a bit. I like having it just be like, hey, hey, just don't mess just yeah, I'm gonna do other stuff and you could do whatever you want with those other guy You guys want to see some culture. I made this statue out of guns scorpion guns. I like to call it guns scorpion scorpion. What do you think you think of it? What do you think of that name? Do you think maybe you should pay a tribute by giving me control of your country? It is a pretty good piece of culture. I have two copies of SIF. I have the physical and nine Putter on Steam when they were doing steams but never really made it throusive for mostly because it was very similar to my experiences with one, two, and three. Yeah, but I will buy five, I'm sure. And from what I've seen, like I said, the animation is really look peppier, which it looks good. It's a good looking game, like you know, it's it's still arrows and stuff like the bombardment arrows and like, oh sure sure, like just the kind of like the effects on that stuff. Yeah, it look look really nice. Yeah, yeah, they've made a good looking game. I think, you know, for Access has definitely gotten by on being a fog of war. Well did you just being you know, we're kind of a niche PC developer. Our audience will will put up with weird interface stuff and it's kind of, you know, not the best looking graphics, but you know, twenty ten yards it's good enough for Sid Meyers, it's good enough for you. Pun ask did you watch the intro movie yet? No? What's wrong with you? But I had my fill of world music. There's one thing that advantage five is seven four has a bunch of just world ass world music. Yeah, which video does actually a pretty good approximation keep going, uh but I haven't seen ye. And then I just love the interests of games because they always go through like all the ages, you know, like one dude, it's very like you know, two thousand and one, like dude throwing the bone upper. Here here's a cave man painting in a cave, but he's in congress. Yeah. I love that stuff, and then there's a battleship that sounds about right, and then Egypt. So it says in the textbooks, uh, did you did you wind up doing anything with There is no multiplayer. There was a multiplayer the building. I'm really curious because and that that game is still mad in development too, Like it's got a couple of months off, and they were saying things like, don't share anything from the tech tree because all that ship might change, and what year does it? What's their twenty fifty is like when you are appraised on how well you do and whether you like either At that point you've won through you know, cultural, economic, or military means. So otherwise this could go on forever or well it can, you can allow it. It's just that at twenty fifty it says, Okay, here's how we decide if you have one or lost, depending on what you've what you've accomplished by this year. There's no way to arbitrarily push out the end date. No, you can keep playing after that, you just don't get in the final In the final version, you will be able to in the version that I have. All right, I don't know every winner lost. I bet you I bet you still stopped getting scored at twenty five. Yeah, but I'm saying I literally could not play anymore in the version that I'm not playing for keeps anymore. Ye after that's just just for funzies. Uh but yeah. Oh, Also, I don't know if that's not that's not happened anymore, but was free on the iPhone over the weekend. How about your other strategy for BRUISE three, which stands for Altitude Warfare Experimental Squadron two two. I don't I don't know at the top of my head what what are usas? Are us am I are using right now? But yeah, so a lot of like the game's kind of it seems like at least visual hook is yo use zoom in real close. It looks real, but when you zoom out, it's like they're just weird markers on some big old map. But I don't think they accomplish that entirely. But they also have crazy cut scenes. They can all employ trickery. You can also, yes, you can also have a ruse activate a ruse. It looked to me like they pull off both of those views. It's just that neither one is very useful to you. Yeah, I don't know. I think if you like go down to if you zoom all the way in, it looks pretty janky. Well not only does it all look great, but like you can't see what's going on. So yeah, it's it's not tactical tactically useful, nor is it even just like, hey, this looks cool when I zoom all the way in, kind of like I said before, like world and conflict vibe, I don't know where you get there. I don't know, like who plays an RTS game? No, No, I mean that's the thing is I found about halfway between all the way in and all the way out was about where I was most comfortable and most useful playing. You don't need to see the edges of the table? No, no, so yeah, they I've only got through a few early missions, but it's, uh, that is a defining characteristic. The story surprisingly kind of following this this guy Jonathan Ruse, Johnny Rouse, no Jay Rouse, Jeffrey Ruse, Joe Joe Sheridan, who you are introduced to as general Joe Sheridan. But then you do some flashback stuff and general so it's surprisingly like about this one dude who's kind of a compelling character, and like, I would like to know more about this this uh this general Joe. It'll come over to my table and I'll show you this guy that likes to smoke a lot. It's kind of cool. They actually break in though the missions with these little like cinematic interludes, and they'll cut like in the middle of missions. They will have little cinematic things and they'll push a little pre rendered bits of here's a bunch of tanks come in, or your planes flying panel panels slide onto the screen. I'm scaring your view of the action. So you played on the PCND a little bit on the console, oh, very briefly on the three sixty version, and then a code showed up for the PC version. I said I would that one instead, because it's not Yeah, it looked like it looked like a PC game to me. Well, you know that's not it's not done. Sure, neither neither is done for sure, although they're coming out very soon. But uh yeah, odd little We have a quick look up on the site of the PC version. Check that out and look at it for yourself. We also have a quick look up for Sonic Free Riders, which came by last week. Congratulations games. First time we have to move the couch. Yeah, first of many. So another mark on the old hit bord notch it up? Uh yeah? Connect it were dot dot dot. The best part I will say this is the game. It wasn't great. I didn't feel like it was super responsive. You're just this off because I jump better than you did. Did you like it? No? Okay, I don't know. Whatever it's it seemed responsive enough for that kind of gunning. Does it do what it's trying to do? Seems like it one of the guys. I like that the power ups require different motions. I thought that was kind of cool, where it's like there's one that squid, there's a soda can that you you collect it and then you have to like make a shaking motion and that makes it bigger, and then you jump on it like a rocket and it opens and flies off a bowling ball that you could have to bowl like a bowling ball. You know. That seemed kind of clever. I guess I mean to be fair to Connect. If I told you guys that there was a cart racer style game coming with Sonic the Hedgehog on the hoverboard. It is armless of Connect if you played it with control or you probably wouldn't get too excited. No, all right, that's fair. Okay, that's absolutely fair. Yeah I was. I was the coolest part of that of that appointment though, was they were showing us the connected debug years. That ship is bananas, man. The stuff that you can see in their Holy crap, that's that's a game. That's where you see hear like, Okay, there's the future. It's in there. Yeah, I'm too close, like being able to like interpolate the three D and fly around in the interpolated three D space within the back half of you that it can't see. It spins around, and then you know rock band is taking place back there. That's where they got the whole idea for that. Uh yeah, it's like a real time Comanche. It's real weird. Actually, I liked I really like seeing that, Like the bone overlay on your guys, like moving your hips were in like your shoulders. Yeah, I think it's push them down. Bam. I bet, I bet we weren't supposed to see that stuff. No, it's well, there's gonna have to be some kind of calibration, uh program with the connect considering how far back and profile stuff. I think because like we were using that to like, okay, this is a safe distance because you were turning red or blue based on if I imagine they'll make some much prettier and consumer friendly version of that stuff. Though it's not gonna be. You're not gonna be able to do any of that stuff. It's to wait too crazy. So I mean, I'll be frank, you had to be pretty damn far away from that thing. Yeah. Yeah, I have now very serious and frank concerns about the size of poddles living rooms, like I can probably pull it off, can't. So I took back one of my bedrooms over the weekend, back and turning that into home office. And I specifically was thinking like, oh, well, you know, my living rooms not necessarily set up to play Connect stuff. My bedrooms definitely not. So this room should be able to handle that. If I if you know we're going to cover these games for the year or so that people make Connect games, then well what do you think it was? Like? Then we need there? And I started like, after having it in here, now I'm looking at that room going like, man, I don't know, fifteen feet what did you say thirteen. I think they said was ideal. I think I said that because I had read that somewhere. But okay, we should probably measure that room and figure out from where we had the censor, which was like pretty much pushed up against the bottom of that TV, back to the back to the wall. I mean, it's not like a giant room. No it is not, but it's it's not that. It's that is a reasonable living room sized room for a lot of people's houses that I've been in, And I guess maybe maybe we should have like apartments, apartments you're screwed bedrooms or something, you know. No, this needs to be in the big, big family room space for sure, and Connect huge in the suburbs. Yeah, I mean that so much. It definitely seems like, yeah, it was it was designed for big suburban houses. Yeah, like if I moved the couch out of the way of my living room and got like a better TV out there or something, it would be perfect. Sure. I mean, I don't know if it's fair to judge all Connect games by this one. I mean it seemed like a Connect thing, not the game itself, because that was in the debunk stuff telling you how far so I'm just assuming that's how far all the games wants you to be far, and I can't do it. I just literally I just do not have the space, yeah, in my apartment at all. Like I'd have to like go in the hallway from space for guy toy games, so I can't scamming back more than that. That's kind of a bummer. I'm not moving my couch on its side in my living room, barely be bothered to do it here at work. Hey, don't like it, don't play connection, don't like moving couches, don't eat. Yeah, anyway, that was my concern. The game is the game, but it was more of the connect stuff that I was like, this is this is true, this is a thing. Now it's actually it was motorized. It moved, it was there are motor down that is confirmed. Than it does actually have motors up and down left right really yeah yeah, right, so weird. I don't know how to left the right tracking work. It must be it has a really wide view and it just really wide. Actually it was actually pretty nice. Let me like that voice chat demo and E three. It was panning left and right. But that's that's probably like zooming in and scanning. That's what I'm saying. If it's got like a super wide field of view, it only has to show you part of that at the time. I can just get back and forth. Could also be not motorized on the base but made the lens could move like I don't know the internals, but it is wide angle for sure. Like it's a nice wide angle lens on that thing. I would use that itches a lot of the dude, it's good connects and use them for other purposes. Our camera couldn't get that wide when the whole what this whole venture goes tits up and get connect cameras for like a dollar. Shoot, yeah, it's like, oh, we can actually like pay phones with the need infrared cameras in bulk. I mean, imagine what people are gonna probably figure out to do with that thing to a PC and I don't know, make the distance like I mean seriously, pretty much every USB and Bluetooth device there is those weird stuff on PCs thanks to crazy people. I think somebody will their ingenuity let you control a we with it at some point. No games on a PC, don't be crazy. Maybe it's happened already and I also play It's I finished Limbo and that's pretty good. That's a good game. It's pretty good by I rather like it. I recommend that you play it. Yes for sure. All right, let's move on to some news. Wait, I played StarCraft too. What's what's not about StarCraft? Try in spiders? Fuck? How do you craft a star that doesn't make any damn sense? You do want to play the Jeff, by the way, if if you play multiplayer, yeah, okay, being the guy who doesn't want to micro manage, you just want to make tons of unison crush the opposition, that's yeah, okay, micro managing, macro managing. So so, Jeff, I feel like you and I have talked about this this topic at length, but I don't remember if we talked about this at all on the podcast The NBA Jam on PlayStation three and Xbox three sixties situation. Yeah, so this is a game NBA Jam, you know, the new NBA Jam. Bradley familiar with it? Bring it back? Sure it's not knowingly you got to say something, thank you. It had only been an uced for we. But then they've they've kind of there's been hinting at and ruining one put it on their LinkedIn profile and then the ESRB rated it for the rating board put something weird out and whatever. So so EA has come out and said, hey, we're gonna make NBA Jam for three sixty and p s three. But there's a catch. What you were only going to be selling it as a bonus for NBA Elite, which is the freshly rebranded NBA Live. They're kind of main line comber basket proper basketball. If I just wanted to be a jam get all we get a Wii, which you mean want to do anyways, because there's the the whole remix tour is this is this is this version that they're going to put out as a download. It'll still be like a download code in the box with NBA Elite, I guess. And uh, it's gonna contain like the kind of classic NBA Jam modes, but it's not gonna have the Remix Tour which is where all the boss fights and like you know, they're it's calling it twenty hours of content. So no teleporting Managic, No, No, I don't think I'm gonna teleporting Magic Johnson on three sixty MPs three, at least not in this verse of Jam, and they said, we're not selling NBA Jam all SS three. They said that, yeah, but yeah, because this means it's already up there and like in the marketplace and all, like all they have to do is just turn it on the But I really, I really think they don't know what to do with that game, uh, because it is such a weird. I mean, you know, because this is the quandary that killed Midway, you know, that transitioning of of this arcade game to consoles and figure out a way to make that work. They can get away with it once. But you know, if someone's sitting there thinking, like we make NBA Jam every year, it's like no, you're no, you no, you cannot. I've been playing on like the screen at halftime like you know, and Blades of Steel where you get to play like right whatever it was, Yeah, and it's I don't know, it's it's weird that the whole that whole thing is just so like I get why, you know, like NBA Jam ended up winning awards at E three and stuff like that, so it's it's way more exciting for a lot of people than their real basketball game. But if they're only selling like this kind of like gi, Yeah, this like half version of it doesn't have the it's like you can get some of the gameplay, but it doesn't have but it has like but I mean it does have the main thing, because the main thing is Jude, it's NBA Jam and it has it'll have online support, which they still haven't confirmed for the we version of the game, but they are. It's yeah, it's it's It's what justifies it being a disc based game on the Wii is that is that remixed for every absolutely, So you know, it's like, could you put that out on three sixty MPs three and charge sixty dollars for it instead of the fifty they'll charge on Wei and have it work? Like I don't know, I don't know, but I bet you could after you could wait until after NBA Elite eleven has sold. It's you know what it's gonna sell to the people that care about real basketball games, and then say, oh, and we're putting this out for fifteen bucks. Now that all this time has passed and we have milked those of you that are super into NBA Jam but don't have a Wii, we have to you all into buying and be a lead eleven. Do you think those people are out there though? Du yeah, I mean NBA Jam was like, yeah, will sleep popular arcade games of all time. They are that devoted that they would spend the extra let's say, I don't know, forty five dollars sure to play it also to play it now, I think, what do you think cost on arcade fifteen bucks? I think fifteen something like that. Yet, so I mean, are they gonna I'm not saying that it's a good deal. I'm saying that there would be some people that would just go yeah, and then probably be disappointed, and then probably disappointed because it's like they're stuck with this basketball game that they may or may not want to play. My problem is I am just as a consumer, I am completely befuddled as to like where do I put my NBA JAM dollars? Like I can't just like I would rather probably play this game on the three sixty or p S three. But this game that they're putting out that doesn't have everything that the WE version has doesn't sound as appealing to me. But then is that stuff eventually going to come out from the three sixty and p S three? I guess the thing is together and I can't. There's there have been too many bait and switching. Isn't just you know, it's like this sort of stuff has has happened too often for people to believe it and for people to kind of take it at face value, you know, like people have been burned too many times on these sorts of scenarios in the past. I think for for for it to work, I don't know when the one thing I think they can They cannot put out this downloadable version six months later for money and then put out a disc based version of Nbahjam do one or the other? And I think with that, I think they'll probably make that decision later, like once they kind of see what the reaction to it is like, then it's like, oh, well, yeah, we could totally support this sixty dollars, but you know, the people who just want Classic NBA Jam are going to get that out of this downloadable version, So they'd be technically cannibalizing sales of a disc based game down the line if they did go this route. Do they just feel like that game's not gonna move? Not? What what's the real one they're packing in? One with Elite NBA elite. They just feel like that's not going to move, and this is a way to move it. Like get like if this is them trying to get behind that as best they can to give it a real good shot. So they are making a lot of changes to it over Live so people play. It's not just a new name. They're trying to make a new basketball game, and they need people to experience it. So they're they're doing everything they can to people hands and say like they'll like it and they'll become a franchise. That's my guess of how because otherwise they're selling Jam kind of short. They are absolutely selling Jam short. Yeah, it's uh, I can't say that I'm too surprised by that that they actually may not be that they may not be one hundred percent sure as to what to do with that game because it is such a weird thing. Your point about the midway quandary as it were, It seems really salient here just because that like on the Wii, yeah you can make that game. Jam is practically a party game. Yeah, you think about it. It is best enjoyed by four players. It is you know, big, crazy, over the top style and you know, easy to pick up and play, and you know, it fits perfectly on the Wii, and it actually controls very well on the Wei too, like the nunchuck and we remote controls are great, but you can play with a classic controller if you want to. But on the three to sixty, I feel like developers have made inroads into getting over that arcade problem of like what do you do about leaderboards and quarters and stuff by doing online leaderboards and achievements, making it kind of worthwhile to keep going at it and playing again together. It's just it's just like, do you how do you have a game that is, you know, fifty dollars on one platform and then fifty like that, there's the discrepancy between like what is the content and the price and the prices that we have that we are comfortable with paying for downloadable games, even if it is you know, if you had slapped that ship onto a disc, would have been in a fifty dollars game. And the thing. The thing also is that you know, sports games used to work by you know, like the roster update was the big thing that keeps people coming back. I mean, you know, like obviously Madden makes significant changes every year, but the big part of it is like your team, you need to stay up to date with this stuff. But that doesn't work for the arcade style games. It doesn't work for like boxing. It's why they don't put out Fight Night every year. You know, they did knock out games every year for a while, and I was like, wait, no one, why why would anyone do this? I mean, it's why they shouldn't do a Tony Hawk game every year. We got this NBA Jam machine here, and it's still pretty fun to play Scottie Pippen, you know. Yeah, and they're aware of that, like they're putting classic players into the new nvajamm Shrimp Kevin Kale is in is in this modern NBA Jam game of like all the characters are very funny, so they need Dominique Wilkins in there, get the nick they need, but they need Scottie Pippen and they're bad. Like that game has to have that confirmed to be in there. He's not yet, You're gonna like Rodman's in it there poorly now. It's it's to me, the definitive NBA Jam experience is like that Tim Kits voices going pip in so just ruling ass with the bulls yeah, classic bulls, so hopefully. I mean, yeah, look, looking at the direction they're going with the heads so far, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pippin in there at some point. I just feel like spud I was talking to Date like after after, I need to put Muggsy bows in this game, weird ass, Like where's Isaiah? That's a good question. Well, I hope it's. It's all disappointing because it seems like there's a lot of excitement over NBAG and I really hope that EA doesn't fuck that up just being too EA. You know, it seems like they're going to eventually outsmart themselves on this stuff, like they're trying to get too clever with it and gonna screw up a good thing. Yeah. I mean, everything up to now seemed like they really had a good handle on what they were doing with Like it was almost it was almost better when it was just officially just coming to the Wii, because then it was like, Okay, I know what to do. They wait, they ended up introducing a much confusion into the marketplace all the of people that own multiple console. I think the best answer for people to want to play NBAJAM is going to continue to be get the Wei version because still be the complete game. That is still the complete game. So how many people you think will just buy a leade, redeem their code and then trade it in and like you know, keep their codes immediately trade in yeah, and just be like fucking I'm happy to pay sixty bucks for half a game on the three sixteen. I wonder how much you would get for a used copy of N if you turn around to it like week one, you probably recoup half the cost. It's gonna be like a bin full of You just have to be You just have to go day of buy it, rip the code out, and just sell them back the game right to open it right there, just grab the I'd like to trade in this used copy of with your iPhone and basically just say like, oh, this is the wrong one. I'm sorry, and once you once you open it up, no that it'll get used. I hate them. Wait this way, you have to time it right, so you have to get the last copy to have in a house. You have to get an open one. Everyone hope to code somebody else didn't do the same shot you're planning. Ye have we seen any video or screens of this Xbox PlayStation version, so we don't even know if it's like if if the artssets are higher quality. They were calling it NBAJAMHD, or maybe that was just other reports were calling it that that could still be like the same character models and textures running an HD. I don't know. I'm sure, I'm sure exactly what it is. I'm sure I don't think they Sure they probably did put some work into, you know, clean it up where they could, but I mean, the WE version looks totally fine. It's just a resolution thing. I'm thinking more in the future. If they were going to make a disc retail version of there were people there were well those LinkedIn profiles were from people saying they were working specifically on those versions of the game. So someone had to make it work on those consoles, and they probably did a little bit too. I just I can't imagine them selling a sixty dollar disc with like WE level art assets and stuff in it. So I think if they if they went to a disc based NBAJAM game on those consoles, they would have to redo everything. But yeah, I don't know, there's a lot of manna ors to sink into. I don't think they necessarily have to redo everything because I mean the graphical style of that game, it's not it's still a real kind of like going pulling an old like more polygons isn't gonna make that thing better. Running in a crisper higher resolution that shows all the jagged edges on those faces actually will make it way better. But get it on the wing. I don't know. That's that's still the only safe sure bet, Like, don't try not to get too confused by this stuff. At least you really want to leave. I mean, unless you really want to leave and you don't care about the remix tour, which I actually you know from what I've seen and played of the like the stuff that's part of the remix tour, Like that stuff seems cool. Like that's where it seems like. I mean, they got a whole different perspective, like a half court behind the back, like old school, like uh, doctor J versus Larry Bird one on one perspective. I don't know, it's it's weird. It's weird business. Maybe they'll make a controversial issue. Maybe they'll make you have to have the disc, the Elite disc in when you launch and be a jail This is kind of their you know, it seems like this is their their their way of making sure you buy shit new. Well, it's also gonna have online pass and it already have sent to plan. Was that project five dollars? Ten dollars ten dollars? All right? Moving on talking about Batman. Talking about something we can all agree on. Batman. Got a name for the new Batman game. You guys what we broke that a few weeks ago. No, it is not Creed. It's not Batman, Batman Batman, Jeff much to our and the Internet's and Kevin Smith's sugar in. In fact, it is called Batman Arkham City, as broke by a game informer sete. I think Batman Batman Batman much. They gotta save that for the third game though. This is the second, better, better branding, it says, it says the name that you care about three times. There's no confusing, No, what this is Batman Arkham? Do I play one of my Why why is there Arkham City? Is? This is like a sim city, but likes, who's this Batman? Where's your game? Is called Batman? Batman? Batman? Oh so I'm Batman? It's actually it's no, No, you're Batman Batman. Okay, it's a car racing simulation. Man. No, you're Batman. Yeah, I'm back in and your your buddy. He's Batman. Two. Great coup. Third, friend, you you can get one one up, He's Batman. Three, you'd be Batman three, all right, b three three Batman's Batman. We replaced the e with a three. You know, that's actually the longest grammatically correct sentence in the English language. Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman batman perfect Yes, shakes Shakespeare. Everybody know what I'm talking about here? No, yeah, I know, I know what you're There's a sentence if you repeat the word buffalo seven times that that forms a grammatically I couldn't get past like the fifth one. I read a breakdown, okay after that? So is that it just a title? Cat Ladies on the on the cover cat cat lady, cat lady, cat woman, a cat lady like cat lady, old lady with a lot of dude. Go go read Game in Former if you want to hear about that stuff. That's why I listened to you. Yeah, this is the stuff that we already know about. You know, different less x ray e x ray vision. Yeah, and apparently there have been hints there is a full like blueprint map of Arkham City hidden in a secret like super fucking secret room in Arkham As really like they seated hooks for their sequel. There's a room that is not on any maps, that does not show up as a weak wall with Batman's like vision, and the wall on the crumbles after you use multiple charges of explosive foam. So they put this it's was the somebody's found they. I believe they revealed it during like one of their like one of rock Steadies podcasts. That's amazing in a game full like man rock Steady is a podcast, be bop on it. Like the game. The game's not just full of hidden stuff like it practically trades on hidden stuff. And maybe they're just still something so hidden that nobody failed. Yeah, they said that, you know, they had a few things. It was Quentin Sharp, the War the Warden of the Arkham Asynd. Yeah, I Quentin is right, as I wasn't sure Sharp was the last time. Anyways, apparently he in his office there is a secret room and that is where of this map for this proposed I guess like an annex onto Gotham City called Arkham City. Cool so Arkham asylums growing and getting turning parts of Gotham crazype that game is good. That'd be nice, right, Yeah? Are you worried a little? Well? Be really well? Because I liked the other one again, going back full circle heightened expectations. I would if they just made another one of those, I would be happy. I know me too, That's what I hope. It's not, like, don't break it. Yeah, yeah, because the first one I would very close. I'm just glad they're not rushing it out, you know, Like remember how fast they turned around and announced this. After the announcement was kind of scary because you're like, oh, they're just gonna like totally pump out another one that showed out the door by the end of twenty ten or something. But yeah, that first one is great. Agreed, Although I share your concerned viny of like, does this will this formula you know hold up? Like I think if they had just cranked out another one and it was just like it's the exact same shit but new levels, that would have you lost some of the luster. But I hope they take it it is reassuring that they are taking their time with this. I don't know what I want to see. No, I don't know, dude. I want new gadgets and about three hundred more Riddler Challenge. I think if you I think, if you got a city, you have to drive the Batmobile. I think they got to put driving in it as a mini game or as as a form that sounds like a slity slope. Yeah, I've got three things that I want. Okay, Batman, Batman. Okay, Batman's the third again, Batman. Okay, as long as it's got plenty of Batman in it, I'm okay. I'm at the Batman. I like, you know what, I like the Batman the best. I like the bat hyphen Man, right because you're scared of the Batman? Oh yeah, the Batman is a terrifying motherfuck. What do you think he's gonna get killed by the Batman's crazy? Yeah? Only people who know I'm gonna, hey, what's up, Batman? Yeah? Yeah, like the Batman is before people are familiar with him. He's that's when he's stole a legends. As I heard the joke is gonna take down the Batman. There ain't no Batman like Batman and and Joker referred to each other as Batman and Joker, but anyone who is not within their circles, the Joker and the Batman and then just Robbin. Yeah, well that's how they could break it is totally how they could break it. Co op with Robin. Yeah, yeah, you don't like this game, No, it could co op. It is not a necessarily a bad thing, but that kind of game does not mother That doesn't mean I'm just saying it's say second back, I just know that there is another Batman in the eastern block space of a space who has been infected by Martian space dust returned to the mother Ship. And he was from the mother Land to the mother Ship. That's right. He had to leave to those of the done you Batman, Batman. There's whatever. There's precedent for other Batman, for people other than Bruce Wayne being Batman. That's right. Bell Kilmer could be bad Bell Kilmer was Batman once, so Iceman could be Batman could be Batman. That's right. I guess sure. Michael Keaton Adam West West, Adam West the most revered of Batman. He was not the Batman was there was There was a Batman before Adam West. Really, I I don't remember his name. There was there was like a black and white Batman. Oh right, that wasn't also Adam West. And that's just one color was like ten years before that. Black on white Batman is like a pre order only four black Man. You just continue, We're happy, that's our game. Stop the order exclusive film green effect on it. Flashback, yeah, just not not the screen around after. It'd be pretty awesome if they did a flashback from Batman and he's in like Adam West style, like form fish, like a little chubby little the unlockable character model, like the fat Batman. I remember driven drawn onto the cow and white pencils like you kind of got girly arched eyebrows there for everybody, all right, the late sixties. Uh, that's all I got on that Batman. Arkham City look for it, Arkham City Rock Batman, Arkham City Rocket more like Arkham Shitty. What see? That's what I hope they don't do. It's a sad vinny Pokemon black and white, you know, the Pokemons. They're making a new pokem Man game. Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is one. Yeah, it's black slash White. That's the best one they've had so far. I think. So it's two different games, you know, right, black and then white segregation Again, why do they gotta they're they're just finally taking their like weird separation. Two, it's it's the old how much you can't How much more black and white do you get them? Black and white? How much more binary is the combination than black and white? I met black out cells white? Oh really, what depends on that's my The pokemon is right, which one is gonna be in the white? Which one's gonna be in the black? I bet I bet black out cells white. You think he's gonna be bad? It's cooler, all right? What do you want to put on this? I agree? I think black will out so white in the States. In Japan, I bet white out cells black white. White is the color of death in Asia, so that makes it cooler. There could be an aversion to that. I don't know what really, Why did all like the we and why they're scared of the number four? I don't don't know, because for in both Japanese and Chinese, sounds like death or looks like the character for death. Did they announce the Pokemon. They keep revealing new they keep revealing new Pokemon. But but what this story is about is that on your first play through in Pokemon Black Slash White, you will only see new Pokemon. It used to be that, you know, you'd see, Okay, I know who this Pokemon is and how to deal with him, because you've seen all the damn Pokemon they would you know, there's a handful of new Pokemon in any of these these games. Apparently they are structuring this one in such a way so that you will you will not know going in what sort of strategies to to use on all these new damn Pokemon. How much do you guys know about Pokemon games? Ask me anything about Pokemon gays, So there was Pokemon yep, there was red and blue, right, well, there was Pokemon red and blue. When did they remake that heart red? And they were made that in the GBA days and it was a game Boy game. It was given blue blue anyway, And what was the what was the Pikachu yellow one? That was it was also red blue, but you started with a Pikachu instead of the starting Pokemon from red and blue? What was like leaf green and other one green? Was also red blue. Okay, but in Japan, oh no, but then they remade that no, no, no, Then we're getting into Jade, which is the third from Fire. It did like Jade Emerald, and then Sapphire was the combination of those two. And then didn't Diamond and Pearl come into it at one point? Yeah, Pearl was the was the last pair of proper games they made, and then the Soul silver and and Heart gold, Yeah, which were the most recent ones, the ones that came with the Pokewalkers. Those are just remakes of gold and Silver remakes it, which were the first game Boy color. So there are This is the problem with the Pokemon series is that even between proper iterations, there's not huge differences, and then they keep fucking making these weird remakes of a generation old game with slightly newer text. It's it's real easy to completely confused, and it's basically the same plot and everyone right, like you're just gym leaders and you're gonna find a wake up and mom says time to start your day. Whatever. Some some professor with a tree name will be like, dude, you gotta close black and white professor tree name. No, I'm sure they've already said like what reason it's gonna take place in and that kind of that determines, uh, what professor you're gonna have because they're regional Bright has going over there? Good is there a professor Elm yet? Yeah? Yeah, it was Oak Elm. I think that's it. I think it's just Oak and Elm isn't maybe professor Maple and it's a chick or a lady or one or the other kind of have both. Excuse you, black and white. I'm excited, all right, real quick, We're gonna burn through a couple of things here because there's just a lot of miscellaneous. I think it's fired up actually forthcoming Borderlands, more DLC fourth coming split second, some more deals or some DLC forthcoming new city stuff, which I'm actually kind of pumped about it. I think Borland story is actually kind of weird. Yeah, if that stuff's accurate. Randy Pittsford came out and said, like, it's like it's wrong, it's like reading a first draft of a script or I think even the steam achievements showing up in there is kind of Yeah, it's so far after the fact. Yeah, they patched in steamwork support almost a year for achievements and I'm gonna play through that game. And someone dug through the latest patch and found a bunch of stuff pointing at Claptraps being enemies in the next DLC, like you fight a bunch of zombie clap Traps and other kinds of different clap traps that can't be zombies. That doesn't sound I don't know that. Doesn't you feel that goes against the spirit of the Claptrap I totally think it does. I think it's too much claptrap. I don't know. I thought the clap Trap characters were kind of funny, but not enough to hang your hat on. But it's the closest thing to a personality that Borderlands has. I think the crazy Russian dude is better. I like the clap Traps. I don't think I need a full DLC pack. Yeah, I just thing is I don't want to fight them. I like them. Yeah, they're friendly. If a little clap trap a little claptrappy. Anyways, a lot of a lot of DLC is forthcoming to some of your favorite games, So look for that in the near future. Should we just say that every week anything? Yeah, there's a DLC coming for something I don't know. Check your local listings. It's kind of map pack I don't know. Uh. And then there's gonna be a all right, this is the last story and just a I don't know. This doesn't it doesn't make me happy. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, that new Assassin's Creed game that's forthcoming. Yeah, there's gonna be a multiplayer beta or what we stop to calling multiplayer beta that will be exclusive to pre orders from game Stop or it's really just a misuse and only on PS three I think too, isn't it? Yes, so it's it's a demo, So it's who with a marketing campaign? This is I mean, this is the problem is Like I'm fine with like what they are doing. Just stop you find different words, stop saying stopped. The meaning of those means what you think it means that. Yeah, yeah, you're you're not using that word correctly marketing people. And shame on all of us for then falling for it. Also, who fell for it? Anyone that's pre ordering that game to get at this multiplayer Like I'm all four, like, hey, you want to play some Brotherhood before it comes out? More power to you. But you remember when betas we're fucking beta's. Remember when the Wake one beta fucking Q tests. Yeah, it was like one map or Q three tests came on the Mac. First you're like, what fuck has happened? Those were video games are broken? Those were betas, God damn it. But then there's also just a demo which is you know, like that bring that. Sharewear starts saying sharewear, what was a raptor? Was the Sha raptor call the Shadows? There's like a new one coming out. Well, it's it's just they've remade it with different graphics and made it run on one to the seven or something. That was. That was some shareware right there. Yeah, that from the BBS. Call up software creations and download it. Put that out? Yeah probably here right said for news. We got new releases though, all right, such as Madden NFL eleven for PlayStation three PSP we PlayStation two, Xbox three sixty and I think that's it. No Xbox, no original Xbox they thought they stopped doing their original Xbox GameCube, no PlayStation, no PlayStation one, no GameCube, gosh doing a version for the Platia lean time. Still it's five platforms. So backtracks and of course the ds ND you know, PC version still fourth coming. This is just what's launching this week, an LCD version, Xbox Live Arcade Combat fifteen bucks Monday Night Combat. Yeah, that seems alright. PlayStation Networks Scott Pill versus the World the game coming this week. How many references to River City Ransom can you pack into a video game while still making it a marketing vehicle for an upcoming film? Oh that also looks kind okay. I like some of the visual style stuff they seem to be going forth that, Like, yeah, it's the hidden shop under the bridge from River City Ransom is totally in that game. It's weird. It's weird. That whole thing is weird. And that's that's all I have. Jeff Gerstman, I let me pass you the microphone so you can spit hot fire about Nintendo downloads there. Yeah, let's get let's get some new Nintendo theme music videos. You once you start doing your sive music, you guys are gonna mess me up. I can't do that, all right? Yeah, sure, isn't it good? Connected? Sect? That's not a place your bomb cast? What games from the past do you feel would fare better today do to either advancements in technology or the change in audience to love playing the President Evil Outbreak games. They were filled with more at tension than any of the mainline games in the series, but were severely limited due to the online functionality of the PlayStation two. With so much progress made in the online environment, it would make really make a sequel, Shine have a good one, Paul Prince, Those those are the words of a crazy person. No, they did remake that it's called Left for Dead. They made it good and modern for the current audiences. Saying that he enjoyed Outbreak is the part that I it's so hard to tell because so many of those bad game experiences just made the game bad, you know, Like, yeah, so it's hard to say that this would have been awesome if I mean, yeah, like, the concept of an online Resident Evil game is not necessarily a horrible one. All which was online sounded awesome but then yeah, but then it came out and wasn't so good. I mean, if they set out right now to make like a six player Resident Evil online game, I think that they would do much better job with it. So, but is it even necessary at this point? With Left on the market. I mean, I don't know, those games aren't comparables. I mean that's pretty similar. I mean they're not for pacing, but as far as like group of people trying to escape from zambies, like like like out Resion Evil. Outbreak had a lot more of like I gotta go find the key to get to the room whatever, like the bronze strokes, the ominous tone, like the scarce ammo. That stuff is very yeah, very reminiscent. It's yeah, I guess, but I mean, you know, it's like RESI resid Evil is a much different game than Left to put out resid Evil now because that game was shit, you know, it would be cool. How about the craft they should just like yeah, like or like Diablo. I don't know. I mean, like the stuff that the Residuable Outbreak was like really clunky because you know, like he didn't even have headset support. Was you had that weird that weird kind of context sensitive system still using like the tank controls of the old Resona. So if they modernized all that stuff, like it would be a way better, way, way, way way better game. Would it be a game you would want to play? But also you have to think about like, when they made that game, they made it to the current technology was available, and that's the game that they thought would be good to come out then. So if they were to remake that now, would they reach too far again and just make kind of a game that doesn't use all the good things about the current technology. Well, I mean, they made a good resideval game with online support. You make a good point, though, is that you can't make the game then now because that game was dictated by the state of like, you know what what Japan thought that online games should be back then, which was crazy Town that Castlevania game is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so you still haven't quite figured would you still like make the same mistakes just years later? And guys, I'll be over here playing Metal Gear online, so don't mind me. I like video games. So maybe you should go the opposite way and say, what games would be better if they were made ten years ago and stripped out all the broken parts that were read in it now and then you have lost plan too would just become a lost planet. Yeah, Castlemania, the Castlemania game you just played would have been Castle awesome. PS two games. We're like, wow, it's pretty good, all right, Prince, there's your answer. There is no answer. Purple Rain, Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette. Next email comes in from Jonathan and Alpharetta, Georgia, dearest of bomb casts. With blizzards new Battlenet service being as great as it is with leaderboards, ranking systems, and achievements, do you think that Activision slash Blizzard will turn Battlenet into a gaming platform like Steam with the regular with the multiplayer jargonaut call of Duty a staple of the Activision publishing house. Do you think that CRD would find a better home on Battlenet with all of the features that has going for it. No, No, I think so. There would have to be some some businessmen rubbing the hands together going to figure out way to do this. They've also been doing that over the idea of charging monthly for Call of Duty, right, It doesn't mean they're going to make it happen. Yeah, I think people if they are going to do that, they're going to try and make their own activision separate battle Neet for Activision. I absolutely think that. I mean, maybe it's probably obvious that Blizzard is making battle Neet a platform. I mean, yeah, just for Blizzards games, like the friends List is already cross compatible between While and StarCraft two. At the same time, if some of those features started crossing over into other activision games, it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's not a bad thing. I want to go play a piece of the version of Black Ops and like my real ID friends list carried over totally. Okay, I don't know that those companies interoperate in the way that is required to make that would have to how many Blizzard would have to leave for you know, modern warfare, call of duty whatever to be sent. You are envisioning a nightmare scenario that I dare not tane. I just got my unlock code. That's that's another company. Like even before the that, like I would love to read a book about the inner workings at Blizzard and like how how do you get away with what you get away with? Yeah, money, I don't know it's called it's called World of Warcraft subscription fees. Yeah, but even even like even now, like I would love to know how like the you know, the fending off of the teaming activision hordes that you know on the daily that that Blizzard has to do, Like, no, we're not going to do that, you know what, the internal Activision producer is going over there and just like and just vomiting creep out so that other and then Blizzard people just soak it up one hundred dollar bills so that the Activision lings can get those speed on the Uh. Well, it's the thing that people seem to never remember about Blizzard is that they've been owned by one corporation or another for the last like god, almost fifteen years. Like yeah, but it's just well, I still see all these form posts even now going like why does Blizzard teamed up with Activision, Like if they find a better publisher or something. It's like they're owned by right, and they have been, but now it's like Activision does all this other stuff that seems to never penetrate. Well, that's the point they've been owned by like God, they got bought before that it was like some company is a little company you've never heard of, and then they got bought by like that company got bought and then they became part of like some conglomerate that included like public waterworks and all this crazy stuff, and like, yeah, they've been they've been bounced around, you know, they've had. Vivendi was not the most sparkling of game publishers when this merger happened, which is you know the merger was really Activision and Vivendi, right, they just said Blizzard's a better name. Let's usually I think of the deal were Vivendi bought Activision, yeah one, but then the Activision management was put in charge of the whole operation. Do you know the specifics of like IP holders and and like this, Blizzards still own like World of Warcraft and all their original people. You're look at a corporate ownership hierarchy. The person at the top owns everything below them, So that's not really could they basically dissolve Blizzard and still make World of Warcraft games? Or is it like, yeah, they could, they could, but they don't want to fuck with the Golden goose, Like that thing is too good of a money making machine for them that they don't like. I think. I think the other reason Blizzard at this point gets to maintain the autonomy that they do is pure fucking fear of just like from the business end of like, you guys have figured out a way to make scads of money in ways that we have never figured out, so even if we don't understand how you're doing what you're doing, we are not going to stop you from doing that. We will make some suggestions, feel free to show them. Yeah, but like it's like they're they're in the position that Infinity Ward wished they were, you know, a year ago. But like could could Activision if they wanted to? If they do really own basically the World of Warcraft IP solely, I mean without having to go through Blizzard, couldn't they just spawn off console ips that are like, you know, World of Warcraft the entirety of Lizzard. Blizzard could walk out the door, like I promise, Yeah, Like like the shock waves that that would send or you know, how would Blizzard react to that? I don't know, I don't. I don't think anything that they could do is worth the risk of messing up what they've already got. Do you think the dudes at Blizzard now, so who's everybody? Second second that Blizzard stops doing that is open fucking season the split second their ips do not crank out the value that they do. Division, Let's be honest here, that's never gonna happen. That'll happen. I mean, everything empires eventually, it'll happen. Maybe you won't. Maybe you won't care about don't care about video games at that point. Maybe, but yeah, like all all the one of the founders of Blizzard, like the five guys who made games out of a room, are still there. Do you think do you think they could do it again? Do you think without the Blizzard name, if if they did something like you know, Modern Warfare or like Infinity Ward style and like cast them out, just like the dudes kept the Blizzard as a name, Yeah, kept doing what they're doing, you know. I mean, I if those guys were still in charge and they still have the hunger to make those kinds of amazing games, then probably you think it's more momentum now at this point though, just kind of like your name. At the time, it was close to twenty years ago, Like making games was a very different business back then, and now like they've got all the pride and legacy and nostalgia for what they've built. I'm not saying the StarCraft two seems like an awesome game, so it's like it's not like they don't have the chops to back it up. And I think it's it's that internal culture there that allows them to be as protective of their properties as they are. But it also took them fucking twelve years to make that game. Well realistically no, well but but okay, well they started on it, they started on it after Warcraft three, and then they took time off to help finish Wow and all that stuff. Like it's actually like a six year I mean that's still that's still that's still crazy. Like like so if they walk like, let's say they walk out of there and go get another publishing deal. Where the fuck they sign with is gonna sell like ship a game next year? I have ghosts like, well we got like five more. Hold on, we have to go find a visual style to rip off from someone else. First? Oh what, I'm sorry? What was that too far? What are you gonna get a harsher buzz? Oh saying there? Anyway, the only the only point I wanted to make with like that long term ownership is that they've been owned by all these different people, but they've continued to do things the same way. Like yeah, like I agree with Ryan, at some point they will stop being the industry leader in terms of financial revenue. And what happens then is that when you get the all activision stepping in and being like, you didn't meet We think we can. Yeah, that's the big question. I mean, they've got this second MMO in development, and if they come along and do the whole thing all over again. Yeah, but what if it fails and they spent all this money. I mean, I guess that could happen too. I don't know. Yeah, but Wow hasn't exactly slowed down, say like it did, like the Yeah, the whole that thing will only matter if like Wow, stuff starts dropping off significantly. And when you've still got people playing in the original request, imagine how many people are still going to be playing Wow. Somebody, somebody's going to come through and someday they're gonna make the game that takes over from what well. I mean, everybody's looking at Old Republic right now and saying, is this the game they could finally challenge the throne? I don't know. If it's that's not the game that's because it needs it needs to be more like like Wow was like for MMOs, it was a considerable stepping up in the accessibility and broadening of that. I don't think. I don't think you can do that again without making a huge shift to the way those games are played. I mean, it was the watershed moment in that genre that brought it to the mask that was their Acarina of Time. But yeah, I don't know it'd be interesting indeed, all right, But I just envision it as like a bunch of dudes that would love to get their mits on that stuff and then and then waiting for the electric fence to like get turned on. Azard higher ups just have that they no no, no, no, no shock prosentally, Yeah, eventually they start wearing helmets and so they have to get better sticks. But there must just be people employed there whose like whole job is to just fend off like dumb stuf ross raptors at the Electric Francis touching every once in a while, but that's still on. I found the weakness. Let me in there touching other side parts of it. Yeah, and they're just like like, it's probably not a standoffish as it was an Infinity Ward, because it probably was something horrible probab would have happened by now. But again, like I think, you know, the Activision people are probably still very pleased with the amount of money that you know, Blizzard however they want to handle themselves. If they keep bringing this sort of cash, then they can justify that. We'll see, especially if Activision can do whatever it wants with those properties, then they must be a very a balance of good and evil going on. You make money, you do what ever you want. But I've got this idea for it. But then you know they You would have the same thing about Infinity Ward, but they did not get such such treatment. They also, probably the Infinity Ward guys probably went about things in a slightly probably probably not probably not as probably not as diplomatic about it. Probably not like a list at the door at Blizzard that says here's people that can't get in, or whatever it was. I don't know. All right, let's move on happier times. Hey, this is Kevin from Washington, DC looking to Jeff about Mortal Kombat help. Jeff, are you prepared to provide more combat help, some MK assistance. I recently got MK two on my PS three, and now you can talk to me about that one and now want more. Jeff, I am somewhat of a novice with Mortal Kombat and have been looking to get another proper two D game. I know that two and three are the best in the series, and I was wondering if I should upgrade to just MK three or should I get MK three Ultimate or MK Trilogy. I don't know if there are two characters UH come to trilogy or if MK Trilogy is truly the pinnacle of two DMK. Thanks for your help. I don't I don't know that you would. I don't recommend trilogy in any capacity. Would you explain what trilogy is for the folks at home? So Trilogy is a game that is built on the Mortal Kombat three stuff that Avalanche Software made for PS one and UH and sixty four, and they went in and shoehorned in some additional moves without actually doing new like mo cap with the dudes. So they just took existing animations and made them crazier. So it's just like you know, now Johnny Cage has a red shadow kick that moves him across the screen further. And also Johnny Cage is in it because he wasn't in three. But also you can play as Goro. Yeah, you can play like yeah, exactly like I think Johnny Cage is. Like the one new thing they did is they went out and found a dude and all that stuff plays go in the Oh yeah yeah, you can plays Goro, you can play all the bosses, just lots of weird and yeah, it's like all this weird stuff. You can plays like m K one Kano in that game, but if you want to. And he didn't even have a run animation, so that's just like he just walks real fast run button. It's ghetto as hell. It sounds like some sort of HK bootleg might as well be. Like, so it's it's kind of cool in that respect because they like they made Rain so there's like a whole new Ninja in it, remember that. And but this is but this is like to appreciate what MK trilogy does. That's kind of like high level MK appreciation. I think it's more of a novel too, right, yeah, yeah, you have to appreciate MK and in a lot of ridiculous ways to look at trilogy as anything other than total fucking garbage. All right, It's it's neat for what it is, but it's like you wouldn't take it seriously, yeah, exactly. And and like you don't want Mortal Kombat three, you want Ultimate because Ultimate is basically just an upgrade to MK three. It's the ultimate in it is the Ultimate and m or it's the ultimate and al of Mortal Koma, Mortal Kombats who didn't need an ultimate edition or just it just needed to fall on sequel to watch that out of your mouth. So like, we screwed that one up. But there aren't necessarily a lot of great ways to get Ultimate right now. You can get on the DS. It's pretty good version. It was actually a pretty good version. Versions got online. It's got online online. It pretty good. It moves well as puzzle combat built in. Wow, that was a surprisingly good game that was. That was a Midway published. I guess, yeah, you can't. You can't buy it on the three sixty anymore. They're not selling the XBLA version, so it's like not even if you have one of those weird old codes. Really, I don't know for sure, but yeah we did. They put it. All those Midway games got pulled off Xbox Libre because there was no one left to pay royalties to or something. Oh I wonder if if somebody like you know, you and me both owned that game. Yeah, if I were to copy that to USB stick and give it somebody who didn't own it. Could they buy it like it was like a lock forward? I wonder if they actually let you go through that transaction. I don't know. So nobody owns that property or that version of that game right now. It's just I don't think it's caught in litigation. I think it's just like it's done and they'll have to release something new or I mean, I guess we're brothers. Brothers technically does own it, but I don't know. But like Robotron Smash TV, all that stuffs gone jobs. I never got Smash TV yet, never gone baby, just no sound. So that's why that store listing from some German store for Mortal Kombat HD three and one is so exciting, because that, to me implies that they would be releasing one, two and three on a disk. Well does that need to be a disc? But they wouldn't list it at a retail store if it wasn't. That's where it was. You know, I'm saying it said advocates, but I'm saying, are you excited that they would probably charge full price for a disc when that could be an easy if it's three games and how do you make it? That should be I don't know how you do that. Yeah, that's weird. Poorly poorly, yeah, I don't know. Just make the characters real small, and the background I don't know, castle ADHD stuff. Everything's like like tiny in a frame, like twenty fights happening on the screen at the same time. But who knows if that's even legit. That could just be some weird, erroneous listing. But I suspect that Warner is going to want to get back into the business of Mortal Kombat in a big way, not just with the next game, but you know, as much other stuff as they can, and they need to. They should be leveraging the Midway stuff as best they can, more than they are. Hydro Thunder Hurricane had their logo on it, so they had some piece of that. But that's it for emails. Thanks to everyone who wrote in once again BombCast at giant bomb dot com. I talk about that's it for the show. You guys want a massage, We've got TNT coming up later this week. We're gonna play some Madden. Well, we're not gonna play some Well, maybe we'll play some Madden. I don't know. Madden NFL eleven is going to be this week's Thursday Night throwdown. So if you like Football's field Goal, Oh, Jeff, do you want to very quickly talk about Irrational? Oh yeah yeah, well they're announced in that game this week. Yes, and they updated their teaser website saying that they would have stuff on Wednesday. Yeah. So we got invited out to this thing, just the real quickly, just want to say we're not going. So I basically like wrote to them and maybe wrote to them like a couple days too late or something like that. I don't really know how they were scheduling it or whatever, but I kind of said like, hey, are you gonna allow interviews? I said no, uh, we're booked up and you're not gonna be able to film the presentation. So I was like, well, we're not gonna get it any kind of video out of it, things, any sort of unique content from an event that's happening in New York City. Then not even not even at the like like if this was gonna be at the Irrational HQ or something, but I would be like, Okay, I would go out there and at least seeing the joint. But it's like, you know, you will release the assets and we will run them, and it'll probably be pretty much the same. Speaking of speaking of HQ's companies, that will let us take video what it's a relic last week? I can't talk about the game, but you went up to relic, I could probably say what the game is? Okay, they have announced the game. It's the game they're working on, the Warhammer forty K Space Marine. Oh crazy, exact? All right? I was. I was about to ask you a question. I'm like, I can't ask you any somebody I don't know. I guess somebody has been talking about a Relic event last week because a friend of mine who's not even in the game industry, was like, Hey, did you go to that Relic event last week? Like are they making a new homeworld? And I was like, no, it was for Space Marine. He's like fun And in fact, they told me not to ask about a new home world because they're not not because they're like implicitly admitting that they're making it, but because they're tired of people asking them about a new homeworld. You know, maybe they should just make a new home world already. They're just like, don't even like every single interview that we've done today, somebody asked for about Homeworld. So but anyway, Yeah, Thursday, there will be video and impressions and stuff of that new War hum Or forty K game hawk suit, looking forward to that, looking forward to this irrational announcement, look forward to all sorts of ship Vinnie, anything you're looking forward to. Uh, screened will be showing heat. That will be showing heat. That's right. You will be showing people watching heat during their screening or that Wednesday, Wednesdays. Wednesdays Wednesday an hour earlier this week, so three pm Pacific daylight time, screen dot com. Maybe I'll come. I like heat. If you have heat or can get access to watching heat, watch it with the screen. Got it on Blu Ray. All right, here's my last request. We need to name our studios. We have three of them. Come up with a triplets, come up with yes, we need three names for our studios. Okay, let's see a desert magg Yes quick, I think Magma is always my joke. Go do joke name for h Yeah, please stay away from it. So it's either yeah, it's either bad names from past conference conference rooms, or I just keep saying like a B or C. Yeah, and then it's starting to get really confusing. Now we have people shooting in different things, and we're like the Big One, the Little one, the couch. You know, there's actually a pro StarCraft player called the Little One the little One because he used to play games with his brother who was the Big one StarCraft. What's that like? Goodle tell you it's gonna do it. For this week's edition of the John Podcast, Bldline, A Little One. The Little One is back next week with another edition of the Giant Podcast, A Bad Bad Sai
