<v Speaker 1>You'll be Hey, everybody, welcome the game Best Mornings with Me. <v Speaker 1>Jeff Grub, your host from giant bomb dot com, thank <v Speaker 1>you for tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be <v Speaker 1>talking about what might be in that Nintendo direct that <v Speaker 1>is reportedly happening, not according to me. Don't get mad <v Speaker 1>at me if it doesn't happen. And what if from <v Speaker 1>Soft has another game next year? It's gonna be a <v Speaker 1>good one because we have Jason Vanelli on the show. Jason, <v Speaker 1>how are you doing? Jason? What are you doing? <v Speaker 2>Bonanza? I'll just have it a bonanza over here, all right? Oh, <v Speaker 2>I get it. <v Speaker 1>You're you're like, uh, You're like, I'm gonna do this <v Speaker 1>as a bit and I'm like, just do it for real. <v Speaker 1>Really play dot Con Live Live the Dream. I've been <v Speaker 1>playing it a lot, played it. I don't know. I <v Speaker 1>guess I'm like on the sub layer three hundred, I <v Speaker 1>guess is how I'm gonna have to start talking. I'm <v Speaker 1>beginning to understand the structure of the game. Yeah, a <v Speaker 1>few hours, handful of hours played it one hour the <v Speaker 1>night it came out like an hour again last night, <v Speaker 1>and then maybe a half an hour to an hour <v Speaker 1>this morning. Well, I wish that's what I'm look, I'm <v Speaker 1>glad it's the weekend because it's time Donkey kungk Bananten <v Speaker 1>needs to happen. How are you finding now? Like immediately, <v Speaker 1>for me, it just was like, yes, this feels fantastic. <v Speaker 2>It's so charming, Like I just like Dan Reikert said <v Speaker 2>it best on Blue Sky that five minutes there's a <v Speaker 2>brief little cut scene and all of a sudden you're <v Speaker 2>punching stuff and dig in and it's just so damn fun. <v Speaker 2>I am very taken it back by it and where <v Speaker 2>I ended my save, I didn't get it too much <v Speaker 2>time to play yesterday. I haven't even met Pauline yet, <v Speaker 2>so I still have to experience all of that. Sounds <v Speaker 2>like she's very fun as well. It's been a great character. <v Speaker 1>She reminds me a lot of the Like in terms <v Speaker 1>of the way that she speaks out and like comments <v Speaker 1>on what's going on. Reminds me of the Flower from <v Speaker 1>Super Mario Brothers Wonder, which I liked. I like that <v Speaker 1>a lot as well. And now it's like, this is <v Speaker 1>a character that's going around with you. It's not her <v Speaker 1>telling you how to solve puzzles, not that there's been <v Speaker 1>a ton of that, there's been stuff hidden, but she <v Speaker 1>just like makes cute comments. It's very good so far. <v Speaker 2>So she's like she finds that inner working between completely <v Speaker 2>silent companion and like Navvy or fee where they go <v Speaker 2>overboard and just you want them to shut up. So <v Speaker 2>it's right, it sounds sounds like it's right cool, all right, <v Speaker 2>that's good. That was the one thing I was worried <v Speaker 2>about when I saw that she was becoming a companion <v Speaker 2>on your quest, that she might start to get annoying. <v Speaker 2>And a character like that, you don't want to be <v Speaker 2>annoying because she's like the cute little girl you're trying <v Speaker 2>to save her whatever. But yeah, I also love that <v Speaker 2>if you accidentally press the punch button near an NPC, <v Speaker 2>you'll just high five them. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it turns into a high five. Really good animation, <v Speaker 1>good touch, it's you know, attention to detail for that <v Speaker 1>kind of stuff. Is It seems seems like something that <v Speaker 1>this game was really afforded time to enable, where they <v Speaker 1>were like, hey, we are going to make this thing <v Speaker 1>for a long time, because we were probably going to <v Speaker 1>release them on Switch one Le's but on switch to instead, <v Speaker 1>they did say they were going to put it on <v Speaker 1>Switch one originally, or at least or at least started <v Speaker 1>designing it for that, but having that elongated development time <v Speaker 1>enabled them to just probably do a lot of stuff <v Speaker 1>like that where it's like, let's just make this thing <v Speaker 1>pop in every possible way. And so far I've just <v Speaker 1>really been into it. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, me too. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's explain ourselves and what we do here. <v Speaker 1>We're Giant Bomb. Go to giant bomb dot com. Slash Join, <v Speaker 1>gets you add free shows, gets you some goodies and bonuses. <v Speaker 1>We'll be doing more all the time. That Blake Club shirt <v Speaker 1>is fantastic. I still need to get myself one. I <v Speaker 1>have not done that yet. <v Speaker 2>My favorite part of this shirt was explaining what the <v Speaker 2>hell it was to my family and now they want <v Speaker 2>to watch Blake Clubs. <v Speaker 1>So well, there you go. All right, it's worked out. <v Speaker 1>Mitch Merchmaster Mitch it's working. As far as this show goes. <v Speaker 1>Most weekdays, I Jeff Grub will help piece your gaming <v Speaker 1>life back together. That includes breaking news and maybe even <v Speaker 1>some of our own original reporting. For all these topics, <v Speaker 1>I'll get the input of a bona fide expert who <v Speaker 1>will make me look smart. If you are watching live <v Speaker 1>on twitch Welcome, you can always listen to the show <v Speaker 1>later on podcast feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, <v Speaker 1>or find the RSS feed on giant bomb dot com. <v Speaker 1>You can also catch the show later with chapters and <v Speaker 1>timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right, we have a <v Speaker 1>lot to get into, so let's start the Morning Mess <v Speaker 1>with a report says Frumsoft's a next unannounced game is <v Speaker 1>closer than we think. This is from Ethan Gotch at Kotaku. <v Speaker 1>Frumsoft has always been a prolific studio, pumping out new <v Speaker 1>spinoffs and sequels at blistering rates without slipping on quality, <v Speaker 1>so it wouldn't be a complete shock to hear the <v Speaker 1>studios and next unannounced game is closer than we think. <v Speaker 1>According to one new report, it's code named FMC and <v Speaker 1>releasing before the end of twenty twenty six. MP first <v Speaker 1>of reports that from Software is in the advanced stages <v Speaker 1>of production on another as yet unannounced project, a multiplatform <v Speaker 1>game with the codename FMC it appear. It specifies that <v Speaker 1>the code name is likely in abbreviation, and notes that <v Speaker 1>the code names for Dark Souls two to three Remastered <v Speaker 1>and Armored Core six all started with F as well. <v Speaker 1>Could a new Dark Soul's Dark Souls three Remaster or <v Speaker 1>Armored Core six spinoff be less than a year away. <v Speaker 1>That's the speculation now, given that the unannounced project is multiplatform, <v Speaker 1>unlike the Dusk Bloods from Software's multiplayer exclusive coming to <v Speaker 1>switch To in twenty twenty six. MP First also suggests <v Speaker 1>that the studio's DLC often reuses code names, so it's <v Speaker 1>likely any big new expansion for Elder Ring Night Rain <v Speaker 1>are separate from this as well, given that the multiplayer <v Speaker 1>spinoffs strong sales and room to grow, or likely we're <v Speaker 1>likely to see meaningful ongoing support for it at least <v Speaker 1>through the next year. Yeah, okay, so this does make sense. <v Speaker 1>They are a prolific studio. They are able to get <v Speaker 1>a lot out. Dusk Bloods feels like something that is, hey, yeah, <v Speaker 1>let's do that while we're doing something else. And is <v Speaker 1>a reminder. Dust Bloods is the one that popped up <v Speaker 1>in the Nintendo direct for the switch to. It is <v Speaker 1>also like night Rain multiplayer focused, although the multiplayer structure <v Speaker 1>seems like it could be quite a bit different where <v Speaker 1>you know, night Rain turned out to be a Fortnite <v Speaker 1>kind of batter rayal little thing, not really a batterray out, <v Speaker 1>but everything else about it feels very Fortnite. That is <v Speaker 1>not what they're necessarily promising for Dusk Bloods, although we <v Speaker 1>don't necessarily know what they're promising for Dusk Bloods all <v Speaker 1>along though, you know, people have been saying, hey, that's great, <v Speaker 1>we're getting multiplayer stuff from from Maybe that's not for me, <v Speaker 1>Maybe it is, but we definitely still want single player stuff. <v Speaker 1>Do you think this is going to be kind of <v Speaker 1>the single player alternative for people who are looking for <v Speaker 1>that from front Soft? <v Speaker 2>Yes, I think that this is going to appease the <v Speaker 2>people who are looking for that poor. As you mentioned, <v Speaker 2>Elden Ring apps on that Dusk Sports Dark Souls experience <v Speaker 2>now where whether or not that is a Dark Soul's <v Speaker 2>remaster or an Armored Corps or something else brand new, <v Speaker 2>because they do seem to like to just kind of <v Speaker 2>throw new ips out there. Don't every while everyone's I mean, <v Speaker 2>the fact that Dark Souls had three games is almost <v Speaker 2>like an aberration at this point, because then it was <v Speaker 2>going back to Armor Corps. Then it was Elden Ring, <v Speaker 2>which now has its own spin off, and now Dust <v Speaker 2>Bloods is its own thing. Even though a lot of <v Speaker 2>people want it to be a bloodborn spiritual successor somewhere <v Speaker 2>in that regard, it's it's the studio never fails to <v Speaker 2>interest in this stage, like what are they doing next? <v Speaker 2>What's coming out? Now? Eventually the game will come out <v Speaker 2>and I'll be like, oh, right, I suck at these <v Speaker 2>I can't play them, but I'll enjoy watching them and <v Speaker 2>learning all about them. But now I really don't know. <v Speaker 2>I think if it were me, I think Armored Corp is. <v Speaker 1>The way to go, because I kind of like, yeah, <v Speaker 1>go ahead, you. <v Speaker 2>Scratch the elden Ring itch. You scratched that with Night Rain. Now, <v Speaker 2>if you want to alternate and have a little be <v Speaker 2>able to appease more people, I think going Armored Corps. Now, <v Speaker 2>whether that's seven or if it's a spin off of <v Speaker 2>six that I don't know, But this it feels like <v Speaker 2>Armored Corps makes the most sense to me, and it <v Speaker 2>seems like too, they're in a place where they'll announced <v Speaker 2>a game it at like the Game Awards. The Akilles. <v Speaker 2>Night Rain was announced at the Akilles and came out <v Speaker 2>in May, right, so they could do that again. They <v Speaker 2>could just announce whatever this is, have that come out <v Speaker 2>maybe later in the year, and then have dust Bloods <v Speaker 2>in the middle, because we know it's twenty twenty six, <v Speaker 2>but we don't know when so or dust Bloods I mean, so, yeah, <v Speaker 2>I think an Armored Corps, especially in a year with <v Speaker 2>the dust Bloods, which may scratch the Elden Ring dust <v Speaker 2>Dark Souls, blood born Itch, having both in one year <v Speaker 2>could be cool as well. So yeah, I think I'm <v Speaker 2>thinking Armored Cores. If I had to predict something. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think it'd be great. And you write like <v Speaker 1>what kind of armored cop or who knows? But it <v Speaker 1>just feel like that is on the table at at least. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's interesting. In chat, someone brought up could it <v Speaker 2>be Secoro? <v Speaker 1>Yeah? Right, so that with Secro god, I would love that. <v Speaker 1>I hope it's Secroo. Honestly, that would be maybe the <v Speaker 1>best case scenario for me personally. Right, But the Activision <v Speaker 1>side of things, now, Microsoft what it like? I think <v Speaker 1>that they would be able to make a Secroo game <v Speaker 1>if they're able to like get the rights. I don't know. <v Speaker 1>Does Microsoft and Activision have first right of refusal or <v Speaker 1>they own the Secro brand. I don't think they own <v Speaker 1>the Secro brand brand, but I'm not sure. I just <v Speaker 1>know it complicates things and makes it. It makes me <v Speaker 1>feel like, are they going to want to go back <v Speaker 1>to Activision. <v Speaker 2>And do that all over again write similar complications to <v Speaker 2>Bloodborne and Sony? I would assume, but we don't know <v Speaker 2>for sure either way. Just the fact that this rumor <v Speaker 2>is here gives from Software fans a lot to chew on. <v Speaker 2>And I will also like to thank the chat for <v Speaker 2>having the same mindset I did when they read the <v Speaker 2>headline from Software's next unannounced game is closer than we think, <v Speaker 2>and everyone says, oh my god, it's in the corner. <v Speaker 2>It's right bobbing. <v Speaker 1>Behind me, isn't it. Yeah. I think that the one <v Speaker 1>thing people shouldn't get their hopes up for here is Bloodborne. <v Speaker 1>Don't really, guys, got just save your seat, you know. <v Speaker 1>Actually you guys are used to it, do it flog <v Speaker 1>yourselves with punishment and hoping for more bloodborn. I just <v Speaker 1>still don't think that's happening. Nope, all right, up next <v Speaker 1>another rumor Nintendo will reveal a new animal crossing at <v Speaker 1>the next direct. This is from Ben Lyons at Game Reactor. <v Speaker 1>Recently we reported on the rumor that another Nintendo Nintendo <v Speaker 1>direct is on the horizon. That rumor, for people who <v Speaker 1>have not listened to the show recently was that there's <v Speaker 1>gonna be one at the end of July. So this month, <v Speaker 1>before the end of July, we're gonna get one, maybe <v Speaker 1>in that last week of July, although no one necessarily <v Speaker 1>knows exactly when it's gonna happen and what kind of <v Speaker 1>direct it will be. Now, this this information information comes <v Speaker 1>from the Nintendo podcast. That's wood Hawker. He's a YouTuber. <v Speaker 1>Beat him up, I like him, good guy. He had <v Speaker 1>a list of things that he heard would be in <v Speaker 1>this next direct, like a couple of weeks ago and <v Speaker 1>now it's just making the rounds. And one of the <v Speaker 1>things he did hear about was a tease for a <v Speaker 1>new animal crossing, that that would be the big new thing, <v Speaker 1>and that would be like that would be like they <v Speaker 1>would kind of have a one screen that they would <v Speaker 1>show that off with and then that like wouldn't have <v Speaker 1>much else there, like maybe Isabelle would show up. What <v Speaker 1>do you think about THATXT? To me, that lines up <v Speaker 1>with just about everything in terms of timing for that studio, <v Speaker 1>for them wanting to set up a switch to for success. <v Speaker 1>Circumstantial evidence is like it abounds here and now hearing this, <v Speaker 1>it's like, yeah, I think they should probably talk about <v Speaker 1>that then coming out soon. What do you think? <v Speaker 2>I agree? Seven years or six if it's comes out <v Speaker 2>in twenty twenty six, six years since it's twenty twenty <v Speaker 2>launch seems right. New Leaf was twenty thirteen, so same <v Speaker 2>time frame. They also announced animal Crossing with a double teas. <v Speaker 2>So first we saw Isabelle and they were like, oh, <v Speaker 2>it's an animal crossing, and then she was in Smash <v Speaker 2>Brothers and then immediately followed up with Tom Nook watching <v Speaker 2>that trailer on his PC and then going into the <v Speaker 2>animal crossing for Switch T's. So the problem here is <v Speaker 2>that I don't think a direct is happening. <v Speaker 1>It's July. I know, it feels weird, right, Like, I mean, <v Speaker 1>the rumors have been like kind of like bubbling up <v Speaker 1>just recently. For me, it was like, I thought, like <v Speaker 1>it hadn't happened by now. It would be something that <v Speaker 1>they would want to save for maybe later in the summer, <v Speaker 1>maybe September, And then they have a Nintendo Today app <v Speaker 1>where they could pop off anything that is like, hey, <v Speaker 1>the Mentroy Prime for release date, here's a big YouTube <v Speaker 1>video and Nintendo Today dropping some other stuff. But okay, <v Speaker 1>you know there's other stuff from wood here where he <v Speaker 1>talks about other things that he does expect to be <v Speaker 1>in there, some GameCube shaf that would include Pokemon Colisseum <v Speaker 1>not Gale of Darkness. Is that the other one? I <v Speaker 1>got one? Yep, I gotta say, I just don't care everybody. <v Speaker 1>That's why I don't know. Switch To upgrade for the <v Speaker 1>Witcher three metried Prime fours four beyond's release date, like <v Speaker 1>finally getting a firm re release date for that Death <v Speaker 1>Stranding Director's cut to s or not to excuse me, <v Speaker 1>director's cut s. This would just be a new version <v Speaker 1>of the director's cut of Death Stranding, which has been <v Speaker 1>everywhere else now, so it kind of makes sense that <v Speaker 1>they would want to put it on switch to And <v Speaker 1>then finally, yeah, the reveal of a new Animal Crossing <v Speaker 1>to me that that sounds like I could support a <v Speaker 1>direct if one is happening. Yeah, I don't know. I <v Speaker 1>guess we're gonna have to find out soon because there's <v Speaker 1>not much of July left. <v Speaker 2>Oh and as someone in chat points out, there is <v Speaker 2>a Pokemon Presents next week. Are they gonna want to <v Speaker 2>do a Nintendo Direct this close to a Pokemon Presents <v Speaker 2>next week? <v Speaker 1>Now? <v Speaker 2>If it's a partner direct and they don't there's no <v Speaker 2>streams being crossed, then fine, But that takes Animal Crossing <v Speaker 2>out of the of the discussion because that's a first <v Speaker 2>party game. There's too many questions around this and all <v Speaker 2>of those things that are being prognosticated about that you <v Speaker 2>just listed the GameCube Shadow Drops witch Er three Metaphor <v Speaker 2>was also part of it as well. It's all too convenient, <v Speaker 2>you know what I'm saying, Like, these are all things <v Speaker 2>that I would expect it in Nintendo Direct, no matter <v Speaker 2>when it happens. Right, they could announce Metroid Primes four's <v Speaker 2>release date being in November, in September, yeah, they can. <v Speaker 2>They announce the time they announced Bonanza in April. It's <v Speaker 2>about just about the same amount of time, maybe a <v Speaker 2>little bit more for Bonanza in Bonanza's sake, but Metro <v Speaker 2>Prime four has been being worked on longer, so I <v Speaker 2>don't know. I am cautiously optimistic that there is a <v Speaker 2>direct soon. I do not know if it'll be next <v Speaker 2>week or the week after. If it's happening in July, <v Speaker 2>we could very well be waiting until the first Wednesday <v Speaker 2>after Labor Day, which is when they like to do <v Speaker 2>these things. I don't know either way. You can tell <v Speaker 2>people are starving for one. It's been three months, please, sir, <v Speaker 2>I want some more. Give us some Nintendo Direct please. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. It's like you know what, I actually, just go play <v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong now you'll be fine. But you know they <v Speaker 1>are going to be on the other side of Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kong here next week and people will be going fantastic. <v Speaker 1>We all bought it, we are all playing it. It's great. <v Speaker 1>But now we are looking at the end of summer <v Speaker 1>and we're looking at the rest of the year, and <v Speaker 1>what are you going to have to get people excited <v Speaker 1>for this thing as it goes into the holiday season. <v Speaker 1>And they're like, we have a lot of games and <v Speaker 1>now here are the dates. How they convey those dates <v Speaker 1>to us. Yeah, it's still a big question. Beat him <v Speaker 1>up on his YouTube on his podcast said he's like, <v Speaker 1>you know, I don't know for sure about any of this, <v Speaker 1>but this is the information I was given. And I <v Speaker 1>don't think he did much vetting or anything like that. <v Speaker 1>He was just kind of sharing stuff for fun on <v Speaker 1>his podcast. It's not his job. He's kind of like <v Speaker 1>an entertainment guy on YouTube video game stuff, but he <v Speaker 1>does in an entertaining way. So yeah, we'll see. But <v Speaker 1>I got to say something with Animal Crossing does feel imminent. <v Speaker 1>I just think it's like this perfect game of Hey, <v Speaker 1>we got Mario Karts, we got the families, we need <v Speaker 1>a big three D platform from the Mario team, Like <v Speaker 1>what do we got there? Okay, Donkey Kong that is <v Speaker 1>gonna just satiate that core audience and like a Game <v Speaker 1>of the Year continder and all this stuff. What do <v Speaker 1>we do about that audience that showed up four Animal Crossing. Well, <v Speaker 1>it's actually been enough time since that last Animal Crossing <v Speaker 1>that they really could have been working on one ever since. <v Speaker 1>And that team, god, I can I can never remember <v Speaker 1>what else they do, but I think they had another <v Speaker 1>game that they were working on. Let's see here, I <v Speaker 1>do have the EPD studios. Let's see. Yes, EPD five <v Speaker 1>is the team that does we Sports, Splatoon and Animal Crossing. <v Speaker 1>So they did it the Nintendo switched sports years ago. <v Speaker 1>The Splatoon three is actually about I think what like <v Speaker 1>three years ago, like one that sounds right, Okay, so <v Speaker 1>like four years ago. So that's enough time now between <v Speaker 1>all that stuff where it's like they could hit all <v Speaker 1>all all of their kind of cadences and be ready <v Speaker 1>for a new Animal Crossing. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, if you include the expansion to Splatoon the Tower, <v Speaker 2>that might that's I think I was twenty two, so <v Speaker 2>that would make it three years. Yeah, but yeah, it <v Speaker 2>definitely seems like, uh, Animal Crossing is next on the <v Speaker 2>list because switch sports Splatoon, and now would they pivot <v Speaker 2>and do a Splatoon four for that crowd first? Because <v Speaker 2>they have the family crowd for. <v Speaker 1>S Platoon three, like DLC coming right, Like, isn't there <v Speaker 1>more stuff coming to that? <v Speaker 2>Is there? <v Speaker 1>S Platoon is. <v Speaker 2>A blind spot for me? Admittedly Splatoon Raiders. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's what they're Oh right. <v Speaker 2>Oh god, I forget that. They announced that on the <v Speaker 2>Nintendo today. Yeah, that's why I forgot. <v Speaker 1>Okay, yeah, it's a whole spin off, that's right. <v Speaker 2>Yes, So does that is that what you're doing? <v Speaker 1>Maybe? I mean, look, I think they have that for <v Speaker 1>this year, an Animal Crossing for next year. Yeah, but I <v Speaker 1>don't think that the full team. The full team. I <v Speaker 1>think I've certainly moved on to like make Animal Crossing. <v Speaker 1>And then that sounds like, like, you know, if this <v Speaker 1>is EPD five, sounds like they're capable of handling quite <v Speaker 1>a lot at one time. But Splatoon's been very important <v Speaker 1>to them, so they also wanted something Splatoon in the <v Speaker 1>first year because you know, we'll get to it. But <v Speaker 1>that switch to selling really well in places like Japan <v Speaker 1>where they love Splatoon, and they want to have some <v Speaker 1>more stuff for that for that audience for sure. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>all right, let's get to the next one here. Saber <v Speaker 1>Interactive is teasing a new reveal next week that seems <v Speaker 1>to be related to Hell Raiser. This is from Ben <v Speaker 1>Lyons at Game Reactorber Interactive seems to have another project <v Speaker 1>in the works. The developer, known recently for Warhammer forty K, <v Speaker 1>Space Marine two, has begun teasing something that will become <v Speaker 1>a reality as soon as next week. On July twenty <v Speaker 1>second the game will be presented to fans. There's like <v Speaker 1>a teaser, like a VHS tracking happening on a screen <v Speaker 1>or stuff like that. The teaser so far doesn't provide <v Speaker 1>much information, but the website constantly shows flashes of number <v Speaker 1>fifty five, and the social media teaser has an image <v Speaker 1>that has led fans to pinpoint that this will be <v Speaker 1>a hell Raiser project by the looks of things. As <v Speaker 1>for what makes fifty five special, the main location for <v Speaker 1>hell Raiser was fifty five Ludovico. How a place, Cricklewood, London. <v Speaker 1>That's a bunch of fun words. If it is hell Raiser, <v Speaker 1>the big question that fans seem to have is whether <v Speaker 1>it'll be a single player like survival horror type experience, <v Speaker 1>or more likely, it'll be an asymmetrical multiplayer game, kind <v Speaker 1>of like Friday the Thirteenth or some other games like that. Yeah. Man, <v Speaker 1>that's a busy studio, but sure a hell Raiser game. <v Speaker 1>I think the chances of it being a single player <v Speaker 1>survival horror game are very low. Jason, what do you think? <v Speaker 2>Unfortunately, I agree with you. I said this to my <v Speaker 2>horror buff friend Sean in text messages that have you <v Speaker 2>been seeing these teasers. What do you think about it? <v Speaker 2>He said, let me look real quick, and he's like, oh, <v Speaker 2>it's absolutely Hell Raiser one hundred percent. I'm like, all right, <v Speaker 2>I trust you, he said, but be a s play <v Speaker 2>a game and don't mess with us like Evil Dead <v Speaker 2>and Friday the Thirteenth at all those other examples. And <v Speaker 2>I just I just don't see that happening now, is <v Speaker 2>it a I think Hell Raiser was already in Dead <v Speaker 2>by Daylight, the Deadlight Good By Daylight fans. <v Speaker 1>I was thinking the same thing, And I'm looking at <v Speaker 1>chat now and everyone in chat saying that the license <v Speaker 1>ended in April, so you can't actually buy that Hell <v Speaker 1>Razor DLC anymore in the game. <v Speaker 2>Oh so now it opens them up to do maybe <v Speaker 2>their own thing. But that, oh man, that would be shitty, <v Speaker 2>wouldn't it. <v Speaker 1>And I think it's just that space though, like that's <v Speaker 1>the way the horror games. Licensed horror games have gone <v Speaker 1>for the last couple of years. That's true. <v Speaker 2>But also if there was a team that was inspired <v Speaker 2>by a Resident Evil remake perhaps and sees and wants <v Speaker 2>to do a horror franchise in that sort of I <v Speaker 2>think Hell Razor fits that right. In my limited horror. <v Speaker 2>I don't do a lot of horror, as I've said <v Speaker 2>before on Giant Bomb, but I think hell Raiser is <v Speaker 2>always stuck out to me is one that's more about <v Speaker 2>the the overt as like a psychological part and then <v Speaker 2>the overt core part. And I think both of those <v Speaker 2>things can translate very well in video games. I would <v Speaker 2>have said maybe, I don't know. Unfortunately, a group of <v Speaker 2>people running from Pinhead or somebody else makes sense too. <v Speaker 2>They both make sense. I am pulling for the horror <v Speaker 2>fans that they get the single player survival horror that <v Speaker 2>they want, but I just I think they're going to <v Speaker 2>try and take another stab at the Texas Chainsaw massacre <v Speaker 2>Friday the thirteenth. Asymmetrical thing, I really do. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think people should probably set their expectations there, <v Speaker 1>and if it's something that you want more, be surprised <v Speaker 1>because it's just not a yeah. Probably. It's so easy <v Speaker 1>I shouldn't say easy, much much more affordable to make <v Speaker 1>one of those asymmetrical multiplayer games, because you know, you <v Speaker 1>get the just you can make it pretty contained, a <v Speaker 1>couple of levels, handful of Zeno bytes to be the <v Speaker 1>enemies or whatever, and then some teenagers and some character models, <v Speaker 1>and then you can monetize all of the cosmetics, and <v Speaker 1>maybe it does feel like the horror game space for <v Speaker 1>that sort of thing also is at a point where <v Speaker 1>they're recognizing and the game doesn't have to run for <v Speaker 1>ten years, Like we can just put it out, sell it, <v Speaker 1>make some money up front, and then have it run <v Speaker 1>for a year to three years. Maybe it's not going <v Speaker 1>to be the next Dead by Daylight, it's not going <v Speaker 1>to overtake that, but it could be you know, some <v Speaker 1>steady income for that time, and then once the licenses <v Speaker 1>has run out, we will have planned for that and <v Speaker 1>we'll make an exit at that point. I think there's <v Speaker 1>the side of this that actually makes That's why people <v Speaker 1>are like, also don't necessarily like this, because they can <v Speaker 1>just see the hey, this game's going to go away <v Speaker 1>right as as soon as it gets announced, and that's <v Speaker 1>a bad feeling, Like it just doesn't feel great to <v Speaker 1>be looking at it, being like I can imagine that <v Speaker 1>game leaving my Steam library one day or no longer working. <v Speaker 1>I should say, yeah, and that's frustrating. <v Speaker 2>Limited shelf life at launch or at announcement is quite <v Speaker 2>a deterrent. That's why I've whenever I see a game <v Speaker 2>like Friday the thirteenth, Texas. When I saw Texas Chainsaw <v Speaker 2>Masters specifically, I was like, that looks incredible, but how <v Speaker 2>long is gone going to support it? And it was <v Speaker 2>what two years? Year and a half? Maybe they supported it, <v Speaker 2>and they did. They did throwbacks to the originals, and <v Speaker 2>they brought in like people from those from the old <v Speaker 2>movies and their models. It was very very cool stuff. <v Speaker 2>But now, I mean the game still works, right, you <v Speaker 2>can still play it, but they're not adding anything more <v Speaker 2>to it. I think. I think that's why people are <v Speaker 2>so starved for a single player experience, because even if <v Speaker 2>they finish it, they get to the credits, they can <v Speaker 2>always go back a year from now or during Halloween <v Speaker 2>and be like, you know what, that was fun, Let's <v Speaker 2>play through that again. The old way, the old ways <v Speaker 2>of gaming. Jeff, do you remember it's just I forgot. <v Speaker 2>I forgot. But yeah, so I'm pulling for you horror fans. <v Speaker 2>I hope you get the single player game you want, <v Speaker 2>but do not set those xbations very high. <v Speaker 1>Yeah yeah, people like man, I love a hell Racer. <v Speaker 1>That's like Silent Hill too. That would make sense, right, <v Speaker 1>that would make sense. They seems like it might be expensive, <v Speaker 1>although you know it's it is saber, right, And I <v Speaker 1>think they maybe they've done some asymmetrical multiplayer stuff. They <v Speaker 1>probably oh, you know, they do that with They did <v Speaker 1>that just World war Z game, and that was not <v Speaker 1>actually an asymmetrical horror game, which does that doesn't necessarily <v Speaker 1>fit when you say it out loud, but that had <v Speaker 1>their like Horde system of all the zombies running at you. <v Speaker 1>They've done a lot of different kinds of games, so <v Speaker 1>this is and like they're doing Jurassic Park game, right, <v Speaker 1>that's one where like you could almost see that like, okay, <v Speaker 1>that could be asymmetrical a multiplayer, but it's not. It's <v Speaker 1>like an action adventure game where you're going through all <v Speaker 1>these different set pieces. <v Speaker 2>They have a lot going on, have a lot going on. <v Speaker 2>A space marine, three Tarak Origins, the Avatar RPG that <v Speaker 2>they announced with Paramount, Jurassic Park Survival. Did John Carpenter <v Speaker 2>a toxic commando game, which I thought this was for <v Speaker 2>half second. They recently came out with some gime called Roadcraft. <v Speaker 2>Have you heard of that? <v Speaker 1>No? Absolutely not, But. <v Speaker 2>I'm looking I'm looking at I'm looking at their list <v Speaker 2>here and I know, you know, I don't I don't <v Speaker 2>see any The war was the aftermath, that's what you're <v Speaker 2>talking about. Okay, that was January twenty three, twenty twenty <v Speaker 2>three with Focus so. <v Speaker 1>Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, right, that's when they were working <v Speaker 1>with them, and then you know they did Space Braine <v Speaker 1>two using the same engine. You know, I think they <v Speaker 1>probably going to show off that dress Park game again <v Speaker 1>here pretty soon. They last time they showed off was <v Speaker 1>like early last year or mid maybe mid last year. <v Speaker 1>And you know, don't forget Nights of the Older Republic too. <v Speaker 1>They are still making that now. <v Speaker 2>Again. <v Speaker 1>I will always say it like the doesn't seem like <v Speaker 1>Sony's involved all. Sony doesn't want to be involved at all. <v Speaker 1>So the way it was originally announced, it will have <v Speaker 1>to be it'll have to be reintroduced and they will <v Speaker 1>have to explain what's going on with it. But they <v Speaker 1>took over that project and are seeing it through. So <v Speaker 1>that's a busy, busy, busy studio. So it's like both <v Speaker 1>sides apply here. They're capable of all these kinds of <v Speaker 1>games where it's like, all right, take one of these spaces, <v Speaker 1>one of these genres you've worked in before, apply that <v Speaker 1>to a hell Raiser game. But at the same time <v Speaker 1>they're so busy, maybe they want to keep a hell <v Speaker 1>Raiser game kind of smaller and off to the side <v Speaker 1>and they're contained, and that maybe that leads them, excuse <v Speaker 1>me more to the decision of making it an asymmetrical <v Speaker 1>multiplayer game. <v Speaker 2>And if people are wondering why they're announcing this now, <v Speaker 2>I am reminded that Santio Comic Con is next weekend <v Speaker 2>and a big little like this would make a lot <v Speaker 2>of sense playable on that show floor. <v Speaker 1>Yep, we're going to go to a break here in <v Speaker 1>a second. Before we do that, people are kind of <v Speaker 1>asking about the Steam News and it's like, we covered <v Speaker 1>the Steam going after Adult Games yesterday quite a bit, <v Speaker 1>and I'll reiterate, drives me insane that these corporations like <v Speaker 1>banks get to decide these sorts of things. If Steam <v Speaker 1>wants to make it decision for itself, I would necessarily <v Speaker 1>always agree. But that's one thing. A financial institution that <v Speaker 1>is being lobbied by Christian nationalists to control LGBT people <v Speaker 1>is far far over the line, and God, I wish <v Speaker 1>there was something we could do about it. But it's <v Speaker 1>the banking system, and they seem to control just about <v Speaker 1>everything in terms of like what we can do with <v Speaker 1>our lives and how we spend our money. And as <v Speaker 1>long as they control that, they're going to be able <v Speaker 1>to come in here and dictate this sort of thing. <v Speaker 1>And it really stinks. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, yeah, my two cents is very simple. It's <v Speaker 2>fucking bullshit. That's it. That's all I see you. <v Speaker 1>The other thing is Steam also apparently like there's an <v Speaker 1>eight thousand percent increase or something like that of games <v Speaker 1>that have self identified as using AI in their games. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>eight hundred percent, thank you, Yes, that Yeah, that is <v Speaker 1>also not too surprising. You know, it's self identifying. So <v Speaker 1>maybe these uh, maybe there's more than that, but there's <v Speaker 1>so many games released on Steam, but at a certain <v Speaker 1>point it's just going to be anyone going on there <v Speaker 1>and be like I learned to make a game by <v Speaker 1>asking chat GPT how to program and now putting it <v Speaker 1>out on Steam. Do you feel like we're close to <v Speaker 1>it clicking over to like, oh, yeah, it's just going <v Speaker 1>to be in every game or anything like that or what. No. <v Speaker 2>I think maybe I'm just seeing glass half full here, <v Speaker 2>But I think this is that percentage is a product <v Speaker 2>of just how many games Steam gets every single day. <v Speaker 2>And oddly, I think the two stories you just talked <v Speaker 2>about may be related somewhat because the loss of smut <v Speaker 2>may also sort of impact this AI percentage. You may <v Speaker 2>see it drop a little bit because some of these <v Speaker 2>unscrupulous people may have just been using AI to make <v Speaker 2>smut games. So if you need a definitely, very thin <v Speaker 2>silver lining about this awful story, it could be that <v Speaker 2>you might see less AI identifying games on Steam. But no, <v Speaker 2>I think, ultimately, I think that percentage is so big <v Speaker 2>because of just how many games are released on Steam <v Speaker 2>given week, any given day. It is a deluge, more <v Speaker 2>than anybody would ever have been able to play. Ever, <v Speaker 2>that goes to Steam's moderation. That's a whole other story. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, I just I just think it's a product <v Speaker 2>of the platform it's on. When when Nintendo's E shops <v Speaker 2>starts saying that, when the Xbox store starts saying that, <v Speaker 2>in the PSN store starts saying that, then I may <v Speaker 2>reconsider my position here. But I think because it's Steam <v Speaker 2>at the moment, I'm not quite worried yet. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I'm with you as well. All right, <v Speaker 1>we are going to take that break. If you want <v Speaker 1>to skip these, go to giant bomb dot com. Slash <v Speaker 1>Join gets you add preversions of the show. In the meantime, <v Speaker 1>let's go to the break. Yeah, what happened there was. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, my Gmail was just like no, not anymore and now. <v Speaker 1>Yeah it was Gmail. Yeah all right, Well that's concerning <v Speaker 1>if we get hacked. Let us know chat alright, let's <v Speaker 1>see here, let's get into this next one. Infamous Studio <v Speaker 1>Boss wants to bring back the franchise. Might be confusing, No, <v Speaker 1>but no, the studio boss is not himself Infamous. Instead, <v Speaker 1>they want to bring back the video game called Infamous. <v Speaker 1>This is from Blair Marnell at GameSpot. In two thousand <v Speaker 1>and nine, Sucker Punches Infamous gave players a taste of <v Speaker 1>life with superpowers outside of a standard comic book adventure. <v Speaker 1>There hasn't been a new game in the series since <v Speaker 1>Infamous Second Son in twenty fourteen. Nate Fox, the director <v Speaker 1>of all three titles in the franchise, would love to <v Speaker 1>revisit the world again, but he can't anytime soon because <v Speaker 1>Soccer Punch is busy with Ghost of Yota, the upcoming <v Speaker 1>sequel to Ghost of Sushima. I would love to work <v Speaker 1>on more Infamous games, Fox told Game Informer. I would <v Speaker 1>love to see a trilogy release, but Soccer Punch is <v Speaker 1>a one game at a time shop, and right now <v Speaker 1>we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yota. Fox <v Speaker 1>co directed direct a Ghost of Sushima and Ghost of <v Speaker 1>Yota with Jason Connell and Sucker Punch has essentially been <v Speaker 1>booked for years between those two titles. Yeah, I think <v Speaker 1>I've never really played much of the Infamous games. They <v Speaker 1>looked fun, and I would appreciate like a trilogy release <v Speaker 1>that would be cool, good, good way to go back. <v Speaker 1>That seems possible. I don't know how possible it is <v Speaker 1>for them to return to Infamous entirely just because Ghost <v Speaker 1>of Sushima did do so. I guess it'll depend on <v Speaker 1>Ghost of Yota and how that does. What do you <v Speaker 1>think do you think this is? Like, Okay, they get <v Speaker 1>down the Ghost Uta, it does really well. Do they <v Speaker 1>go into the third one of those? Do they go <v Speaker 1>into do they go back to Sly Cooper, Do they <v Speaker 1>make an Infamous or do they make something new? <v Speaker 2>It's tough, right, because the reason they pivoted from Infamous <v Speaker 2>was because I believe Second Son did not perform as <v Speaker 2>well as the first two games, so they made the <v Speaker 2>choice to switch their focus and go to something different. <v Speaker 1>These franchises often get diminishing returns right on that third one, <v Speaker 1>that third one who doesn't. <v Speaker 2>Do as well, right, And ultimately I think they made <v Speaker 2>the right choice. I think I think Ghost of Sushima <v Speaker 2>was excellent. I'm very excited for Yota, so it was correct. <v Speaker 2>I would also think that the trilogy idea is the <v Speaker 2>best one just to gauge interest, Like, if that trilogy <v Speaker 2>comes out and sells gangbusters, then you know, maybe we <v Speaker 2>should consider something new. Take our learnings from Ghost of <v Speaker 2>Susha man Yote and see if we can implement them <v Speaker 2>in some way into a new Infamous game. Personally, I <v Speaker 2>would love to see Infamous Infamous. It holds a special <v Speaker 2>place in my heart. The first Infamous was the first <v Speaker 2>game I ever platinumed oh. I played the hell out <v Speaker 2>of that game. Loved Infamous two second son I liked <v Speaker 2>as well, but I could see where people's issues came up. <v Speaker 2>I thought the Also, the expansion First Light was really <v Speaker 2>cool too. I tell you what. The one thing I <v Speaker 2>did take away from this article is Sucker Punch is <v Speaker 2>a one game at a time shop. Thank you God. <v Speaker 2>I love hearing that they're not overstretching themselves. They're focusing <v Speaker 2>on one project at a time, and it shows that <v Speaker 2>is really really neat. But yes, what I love to <v Speaker 2>see more Infamous, sure, but I also really like what <v Speaker 2>they're doing with Ghost, So for me, it's a win win, <v Speaker 2>But I can understand why people might want superheroes over <v Speaker 2>Samurai or two different genres a superhero Samurai, though that <v Speaker 2>that's a whole other story. I'm with it. I'm with it. <v Speaker 2>After Yota comes out, if they decide they want to <v Speaker 2>get some more infamous, maybe this is a way to <v Speaker 2>plant that seed, to see what the fan reaction is <v Speaker 2>and they can gage it from there. Ultimately, though, I <v Speaker 2>think the trilogy is the best approach for a new <v Speaker 2>the first release back and then see where things go <v Speaker 2>from there. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and I think kind of maybe the same thing <v Speaker 1>with Sly Cooper right where you know that those games <v Speaker 1>are playable, I think for the most part. So just <v Speaker 1>give a way to like reintroduce everyone to a big, nice, <v Speaker 1>big new collection couldn't hurt at the same time, just <v Speaker 1>something there. I don't know how much those games need <v Speaker 1>to be like remade the way some other classic three <v Speaker 1>D platformers have been remade. Those were PS two games <v Speaker 1>that had that cell shitted, But you know, you do <v Speaker 1>a nice remaster on those, you know, up to and <v Speaker 1>again they've probably have been mostly remastered up to this point. <v Speaker 1>But getting a four K and all this stuff put <v Speaker 1>in a new package and just remind people about Sly Cooper. <v Speaker 1>Let them go play those games again and see if <v Speaker 1>there's you know, appetite, see if people bite and maybe <v Speaker 1>go at that point, it it just makes it like <v Speaker 1>less likely because they are that one game at a <v Speaker 1>time studio. Just every single possibility here is like just <v Speaker 1>a little bit less likely than the you know, other <v Speaker 1>scenarios because they're going to choose one, and that that <v Speaker 1>they're going to be looking at opportunity costs, And that <v Speaker 1>makes me think that the thing that they will believe <v Speaker 1>is the safest bet is going to be a Ghost <v Speaker 1>three at that point. <v Speaker 2>So now, yeah, is there another studio in Sony's gamut <v Speaker 2>that could do a trilogy release for them? Or I <v Speaker 2>mean they definitely reach I would say virtuos, but you know, <v Speaker 2>who knows how many of those are left, right? But <v Speaker 2>I I mean, just because we're talking about a trilogy <v Speaker 2>re release doesn't necessarily mean the Sucker Punch has to <v Speaker 2>do it right. <v Speaker 1>No, definitely not. <v Speaker 2>So you could get best of both worlds and have <v Speaker 2>Ghost of Yote come out, then have the trilogy come <v Speaker 2>out by somebody else, see what the appetite is, and <v Speaker 2>then decide from there. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I mean Nix's is mostly done PC ports, <v Speaker 1>but like, maybe they could do something here and get <v Speaker 1>a trilogy up and running again and put it out <v Speaker 1>everywhere that there's no reason they wouldn't be able to <v Speaker 1>do that, I suppose. And then you know, there's a <v Speaker 1>lot of contract companies out there that have lost work <v Speaker 1>recently are going to have openings because of the Microsoft <v Speaker 1>cutting back on how much money they're spending beyond just <v Speaker 1>the layoffs. That's what hit Virtuous. So maybe Virtuous is like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>we did have to do layoffs because Microsoft cut off <v Speaker 1>with some contracts that we were expecting to get, But <v Speaker 1>now that means we do have some availability, and maybe <v Speaker 1>Sony would want to take advantage of that, although I <v Speaker 1>get the sense that they are. Sony's just not in <v Speaker 1>the mood to like do a lot of these big <v Speaker 1>projects in a way that's going to cost a lot <v Speaker 1>of money. So maybe maybe that's why they weren't working <v Speaker 1>with Virtuous on these exact projects up to this point, <v Speaker 1>or an equivalent. I don't know. We'll see. I think <v Speaker 1>it would be cool to see Infamous comeback. I think <v Speaker 1>personally i'd like to see, well, Number one from Sucker <v Speaker 1>Punch obviously is Rocket Robot on Wheels, a sequel to <v Speaker 1>the N sixty four game that they started with, but <v Speaker 1>then Sly Cooper maybe and then maybe Infamous after that. <v Speaker 1>All right, so let's see here. Netflix to ramp up <v Speaker 1>investment in gaming as company addresses further monetization possibilities. This <v Speaker 1>is from Edimcoup at GameSpot. Netflix plans to ramp up <v Speaker 1>its investment in gaming after the company previously pulled back <v Speaker 1>from its grand ambitions in the Triple A game space <v Speaker 1>and shut down a studio from Halo veteran Joe Staton. <v Speaker 1>As part of Netflix's latest earnings briefing, co CEO, president <v Speaker 1>and director Greg Peters commented on Netflix's vision for gaming, <v Speaker 1>saying Netflix's investments thus far has been relatively small in <v Speaker 1>comparison to the money it puts into film and TV <v Speaker 1>and live sports programming. The opportunity to grow is significant, <v Speaker 1>He said. We look at the near term monetization opportunity <v Speaker 1>with games very similarly to how we've looked at other <v Speaker 1>content categories. We could think it's we could think a <v Speaker 1>scripted or film or on and on, and that's essentially <v Speaker 1>if we deliver more valuable to our offer or more <v Speaker 1>value to our offerings. We get increased user acquisition, we <v Speaker 1>get increased retention, we get increased willingness to pay, he said, <v Speaker 1>So it drives all the sort of core fundamentals of <v Speaker 1>our business. Peter said Netflix has already observed positive effects <v Speaker 1>of investing in gaming. However, he reminded people then that <v Speaker 1>Netflix's investment in gaming remains small relative to the company's <v Speaker 1>overall business, and that the number of people playing games <v Speaker 1>on Netflix is small as well. In twenty twenty two, <v Speaker 1>findings found that ninety nine percent of Netflix users did <v Speaker 1>not play games on Netflix's app, and that but that <v Speaker 1>was before Grand Theft Autokame. That might that probably did <v Speaker 1>change things that seemed like it was pretty popular on there. <v Speaker 1>Peter said Netflix is aiming to be disciplined with regards <v Speaker 1>to its investment in gaming. The goal he set is <v Speaker 1>not to invest too much before Netflix can demonstrate that <v Speaker 1>it can create value for our members. We've seen good progress, <v Speaker 1>as you know, with licensed games like GTA. We've seen <v Speaker 1>good progress with games we developed like Squid Games Unleashed. <v Speaker 1>So you'll see more of that from us in both <v Speaker 1>of those categories as well as a whole new set <v Speaker 1>of interactive experiences that we think that we're either in <v Speaker 1>a unique or different position to deliver. So we're super <v Speaker 1>excited to roll those out over the next year. I <v Speaker 1>think he's also he kind of goes on here to <v Speaker 1>talk a little bit about you know, where will these <v Speaker 1>games show up? Are they just going to continue to <v Speaker 1>be on the Netflix app? There was talk of hey, <v Speaker 1>you did bring in Joe stateon you did have a <v Speaker 1>big Triple A studio where you're going to make those games. <v Speaker 1>Seems like they're not going to do that. They are <v Speaker 1>not going to make games for console, No big, major <v Speaker 1>Triple A games, and yet the investment is going to <v Speaker 1>go up. So does that mean a ton of smaller <v Speaker 1>mobile first games? I think so. I never played the <v Speaker 1>Squid games thing on Netflix. Do you have any idea <v Speaker 1>what that's like? <v Speaker 2>I don't. <v Speaker 1>I don't. <v Speaker 2>Unfortunately no I don't. But but Netflix, buddy, pal, look <v Speaker 2>at me. <v Speaker 1>Jason wants to talk to you. Netflix, go ahead and <v Speaker 1>sit down with them real quick. <v Speaker 2>Pick the fucking lane. Will you are you investing in <v Speaker 2>games or are you not investing in games? What games <v Speaker 2>are you investing in? Why are you letting these license <v Speaker 2>drops when they were the only mobile experiences there were. <v Speaker 2>Why do I have to scroll down so much to <v Speaker 2>find the games on your app? And when I do <v Speaker 2>find the games on your app? Recently added Bloodline, a <v Speaker 2>Rebel Moon game, Oh Line starts here, Fellas a Squid <v Speaker 2>game Unleashed, and then Solitaire, Word Trails, Majong Solitaire, Love <v Speaker 2>is Blind, Netflix Story, The Ultimatum, Choices, Puzzle Gods too <v Speaker 2>hot to handle? Oh their Sonic? Why did it take <v Speaker 2>me so long to find the franchises the people are <v Speaker 2>going to know? I understand your Netflix. I understand you <v Speaker 2>want to push your franchises first. That's fine, separate them. <v Speaker 2>You make this interface, you can make this whatever you want. <v Speaker 2>Just give us an easier approach to finding the games <v Speaker 2>we want to play on your app. I was a <v Speaker 2>major proponent of Netflix games. I was invested when they <v Speaker 2>were bringing games to their service that were the first <v Speaker 2>the only place you could play their mobile ports when <v Speaker 2>they were like Kentucky Wouot zero was one, Golden Idol <v Speaker 2>was one, couple other ones, Gta being another. But I <v Speaker 2>think they had its own mobile port. But I digress. <v Speaker 2>I thought that that could have been a great alternative <v Speaker 2>to Apple Arcade and then they just got bored. It <v Speaker 2>seemed like they got bored. Yeah, and they and they <v Speaker 2>just it wasn't making as much. Line did not go <v Speaker 2>up as much as Lion has to go up, and <v Speaker 2>they just decided they didn't want to do it anymore. <v Speaker 2>They have they have great studios underneath them, the studio <v Speaker 2>that made Alto's Adventure. They made another game on their Snowman. <v Speaker 2>There underneath at Netflix there are the Monument Valley Team <v Speaker 2>is under Netflix now, I just big a lane. Well, yeah, <v Speaker 2>because you had a great ideas. You had great ideas, <v Speaker 2>but you didn't advertise them. Nine to nine percent of <v Speaker 2>people weren't playing games on your apps because they didn't <v Speaker 2>know they existed and they didn't know where to find them. <v Speaker 2>You weren't telling people. If you were that invested in gaming, <v Speaker 2>there should be an ad since you added ads to <v Speaker 2>Netflix now at least one little ad before everything. Jesus Christ, <v Speaker 2>what are you doing? I sorry? I every time I <v Speaker 2>come on this, every time I come on the show <v Speaker 2>with you, I get we're. <v Speaker 1>Trying to get you worked up. We go for it. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, you know almost purpose. You are testing my heart <v Speaker 2>family history here. It doesn't make any sense to me. <v Speaker 2>And I hope I'm not wrong. Oxen Free Devs That's <v Speaker 2>who I was thinking of. I'm not wrong, right, like. <v Speaker 1>Night Swim or something like that. Can you remember, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>night school, Night School, Night School. <v Speaker 2>That's it? Yea, thanks School. I just feel like this <v Speaker 2>is so simple, like put good games on your mobile app, <v Speaker 2>advertise them to the people not knowing they're there. And <v Speaker 2>then it took Grand Theft fucking Auto for people to <v Speaker 2>realize you could play games on your Netflix app and <v Speaker 2>there were good ones on there. It just it just <v Speaker 2>it kills me. It seems it's it's so simple here, <v Speaker 2>but the co CEO of the fucking company doesn't know <v Speaker 2>how to do it. <v Speaker 1>I think I think they o business. Yeah, it could <v Speaker 1>break to me. This also like just kind of rings <v Speaker 1>of a little bit of him saying things so that <v Speaker 1>investors here we have room to grow in other directions. <v Speaker 1>And I just don't know how much they actually believe <v Speaker 1>in games anymore at all. Uh, And you know I <v Speaker 1>think they're like, eh, well, well some of these have worked. <v Speaker 1>It's like, yeah, but I don't know the ones you <v Speaker 1>bring up, Grand Theft Auto, You're not going to be <v Speaker 1>able to replicate that there aren't a lot of other <v Speaker 1>grand theft auto even the class of Grand Theft autos <v Speaker 1>sitting around for you to put on your service. And uh, <v Speaker 1>you know, I like, what if like the Witcher three <v Speaker 1>shows up on there? Uh, you know that was a <v Speaker 1>popular Netflix show? Could they do that? That they could? <v Speaker 1>But man, a lot of people have already played that game, <v Speaker 1>and you're you're certainly not going to make your own <v Speaker 1>new equivalent Witcher game for Netflix specifically. That's just not <v Speaker 1>financially feasible here. And even if it was, it would <v Speaker 1>be so difficult to find the studio to actually make <v Speaker 1>that for you. It's difficult to find those people, even <v Speaker 1>in this market where there's been a lot of layoffs, Like, <v Speaker 1>you're just not going to be able to put that <v Speaker 1>team together that quickly and be able to afford them, <v Speaker 1>at least how much Netflix would want to spend on <v Speaker 1>making games. That's the story over and over of these <v Speaker 1>big tech companies coming into gaming. It's being just shell <v Speaker 1>shocked by how difficult it is to actually put a <v Speaker 1>team together and get these people to make a game <v Speaker 1>that is decent. It requires a steely stomach that none <v Speaker 1>of these companies seem to have. Google certainly did it. <v Speaker 1>Amazon has kind of gone up and down with it. <v Speaker 1>They've had some hits, but it took a long time, <v Speaker 1>and it really they kind of shifted gears towards stuff <v Speaker 1>that was more easy to manage. And Netflix just seems <v Speaker 1>like they're doing it in a slightly different way where <v Speaker 1>they didn't throw themselves into it like the way Google did, <v Speaker 1>or the Google's like, let's just spend every dollar that <v Speaker 1>we can find on this, and here's a massive deals <v Speaker 1>to get these games just to come to Stadia, not <v Speaker 1>exclusively to Stadia. Netflix isn't doing that, but they also <v Speaker 1>just don't The story still seems to be the same, <v Speaker 1>where this is a space that they just fully didn't <v Speaker 1>comprehend how difficult it would be to compete in, and <v Speaker 1>now they're saying, now, yeah, we still need a way <v Speaker 1>to grow though, because we have kind of tapped out <v Speaker 1>what we could do with traditional Netflix subscriptions and the <v Speaker 1>content on there. So gaming needs to be this thing <v Speaker 1>that can help us find ways to monetize people in <v Speaker 1>other ways. And they want to promise that. I don't <v Speaker 1>think they actually end up delivering on much of any <v Speaker 1>of this at all. <v Speaker 2>No, they can't they came from the film and TV landscape, <v Speaker 2>which is a completely different animal. Production of film and <v Speaker 2>TV is just different. They want to make games like that, <v Speaker 2>It's not going to happen. I think. I thought, like <v Speaker 2>I said, I thought they had a great thing going <v Speaker 2>where they would have the exclusive mobile ports of popular <v Speaker 2>games elsewhere. But they did nothing to help themselves get <v Speaker 2>that news out there. Instead, they like I get after <v Speaker 2>working with him so for so long, I got added <v Speaker 2>to their press list and every month I get an <v Speaker 2>email of everything that's coming out for the next month. <v Speaker 2>There have been entire months that did not have a <v Speaker 2>single Netflix gaming release on it in house or port. <v Speaker 2>And that's dumb for as much as gung ho as <v Speaker 2>they were, to have nothing coming on to your service <v Speaker 2>at all, not even another Love Island Dating sim or <v Speaker 2>whatever the hell those games are. What are we doing here? <v Speaker 2>Pick a link? <v Speaker 1>I Happy Go More two is out now, and how <v Speaker 1>is there not a new golf game to go along <v Speaker 1>with it? <v Speaker 2>Exactly a golf game with a minigame where you fight <v Speaker 2>Bob Barker. MJF is in that have a wrestling mini game. You, Jeff, <v Speaker 2>you and I are the ideas people clearly we're not <v Speaker 2>the money. We gotta find the money. <v Speaker 1>People, get a hold of Netflix all to home. What's <v Speaker 1>going on? <v Speaker 2>One more thing before we move on. I saw some <v Speaker 2>chat here. I'm going to blow some minds. I am <v Speaker 2>not full blooded Italian and I am fifty percent. I <v Speaker 2>am Italian and my mother's maiden name is McGee. I <v Speaker 2>am pasta and potatoes. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, there you go. All right, last story that <v Speaker 1>we're gonna do here, Mario Kart and Switch To and <v Speaker 1>Switch One are dominating in Japan's sales charts. This is <v Speaker 1>from sal Ramonokamatsu Mario Kart Mario Kart World that came <v Speaker 1>out and has already sold one point three million copies <v Speaker 1>in Japan. That's really good. I think that is actually, <v Speaker 1>for some reason, more physical. Yeah no, that's not okay. <v Speaker 1>Mario Kart eight Deluxe is at six point three million, <v Speaker 1>so it's not gonna it's not gonna get there anytime soon, <v Speaker 1>but you can kind of see it's on that trajectory <v Speaker 1>at the moment. Whether or not they're gonna be able <v Speaker 1>to maintain that, we'll see. Man, it's already sold more <v Speaker 1>than Super Mario Party Jamboree has, though that did one <v Speaker 1>point three four million, and that's just under that, so <v Speaker 1>that's you know, this is Japan, so maybe there's not <v Speaker 1>as crazy about Mario Party as we are here. Only <v Speaker 1>non switch game on the top ten for them was <v Speaker 1>Death Stranding two, which is sold just under ninety thousand <v Speaker 1>copies in Japan. And this is I think this is <v Speaker 1>all physical, so no, no digital numbers included here at <v Speaker 1>all for Japan. Really, the hardware is kind of the <v Speaker 1>one I found was pretty interesting. The switch to has <v Speaker 1>already sold one point six million units. That's really good, really, <v Speaker 1>you know, for comparison, the PlayStation five is still under <v Speaker 1>six million total. It's at five point seven million, so <v Speaker 1>it feels like the switch tow is going to race <v Speaker 1>to that point here really fast. But the Switch one <v Speaker 1>sold another ten thousand units, all right, you know, actually, <v Speaker 1>like let's add it up here. That's that's six thousand <v Speaker 1>and four thousand. Actually, that's about eleven thousand there, and <v Speaker 1>then the switch Standard one did another two and a <v Speaker 1>half thousand, so it's like thirteen thousand units, which is <v Speaker 1>more than three times or at least twice what the <v Speaker 1>PlayStation sold when you count the PS five pro in <v Speaker 1>the digital edition. Then so man, just the switch does <v Speaker 1>dominate that country. Nintendo has catered with with stuff like <v Speaker 1>that has popped off there, Splatoon, you know obviously like <v Speaker 1>stuff like fire emblem that and it has paid off. <v Speaker 1>Where now that that the industry just seems to like <v Speaker 1>orbit around them, at least for traditional gaming, and PlayStation <v Speaker 1>just is kind of stuck there. And I don't think. <v Speaker 1>I don't think Sony cares too much because they have <v Speaker 1>this global audience that has really worked for them. But <v Speaker 1>I wonder if it kind of does rub them the <v Speaker 1>wrong way a little bit. They're like, well, I'm you know, <v Speaker 1>switch To just has Mario cart and people are going <v Speaker 1>crazy for it. But people want to play games that way, right. <v Speaker 2>I think if the the portability is a big factor, <v Speaker 2>the versatility of the console I think goes a long way, <v Speaker 2>especially in the day of the age of phones, where <v Speaker 2>we're now trained to be looking at a screen wherever <v Speaker 2>the hell we go, and PlayStation just doesn't offer that. <v Speaker 2>Portal does to a point, but you need a WiFi <v Speaker 2>and that's a whole other can of worms. But I <v Speaker 2>get it. This makes perfect sense to me. I think <v Speaker 2>another thing that's telling on this is Xbox Series X <v Speaker 2>digital edition sold seventy five units. The non digital edition <v Speaker 2>sold fifty four, for a total of one hundred and <v Speaker 2>twenty nine I think if my quick math is right, <v Speaker 2>and then one hundred and eighteen Series SS, which is <v Speaker 2>two hundred and thirty seven Xboxes in a week. Now, <v Speaker 2>that sounds like in a week whatever, PlayStation four sold <v Speaker 2>thirty thirty. <v Speaker 1>This has been. This has been what Xbox numbers in <v Speaker 1>Japan have looked like for forever, like that ninth like <v Speaker 1>double digit and then triple digit if you're lucky, that <v Speaker 1>sort of thing. There was a period though there where <v Speaker 1>the Xbox series console was doing okay in Japan, like <v Speaker 1>it was like it sold ten thousand units in a week. <v Speaker 1>What the hell's going on? And that has just completely <v Speaker 1>dropped off a cliff. They all together, it looks like <v Speaker 1>this generation of Xbox still not even at like seven <v Speaker 1>hundred and fifty thousand units in Japan, Like yeah, that's wild, <v Speaker 1>and what. <v Speaker 2>Are they and what are they doing to encourage confidence? <v Speaker 2>But that I want to get back to the good stuff. <v Speaker 2>I think switch to catches. PlayStation five, which we said <v Speaker 2>was what like six million something like that, if you <v Speaker 2>had maybe seven million, if you had all that together. <v Speaker 1>If you add all that together, yes, seven million, Yes. <v Speaker 2>I think it gets there by the end of the year. <v Speaker 1>We think think it in Japan alone, I think it'll <v Speaker 1>be close. I think I think in Japan alone they <v Speaker 1>might get to like got their one point six million <v Speaker 1>through the first month. Basically it probably does at least that. <v Speaker 1>It probably does that plus a million, so like we're <v Speaker 1>talking about like five million by the end of the <v Speaker 1>year pretty easily. I think, Yeah, seven million might be tough, <v Speaker 1>but we'll okay. <v Speaker 2>And from the software side, at first, I was like, well, <v Speaker 2>Death Stranding only sold eighty seven thousand copies so far, <v Speaker 2>but then I remembered it came out twenty six We're <v Speaker 2>in what week three, week four, so ninety thousand copies total. <v Speaker 2>That's pretty good for pretty that kind of game. <v Speaker 1>Yep, yep, let's see Fantasy Life that game the one <v Speaker 1>hundred and fifty thousand, good for it? All Right, that <v Speaker 1>does it for the headlines. I do have a poll <v Speaker 1>question that we should get to from yesterday. Let's see here, <v Speaker 1>that's the new one. Have you played Super Mario Run? Yes, recently, yes, <v Speaker 1>but years ago? Or no. I'm gonna go with yes, <v Speaker 1>but years ago, and that's fifty one percent of respondents. <v Speaker 1>Forty six percent said no majority of people played it, <v Speaker 1>and four percent have done so recently. The game got <v Speaker 1>is apparently gets updates for when like new Switch games <v Speaker 1>are coming out, and it gets like special events. I <v Speaker 1>don't know if they do theming on the game, but <v Speaker 1>it's like you can earn bonuses because Mario or not <v Speaker 1>Mario Kart, because Donkey Kong Bonanza is here. It's it's strange. <v Speaker 1>I don't really know how it works, but I've been curious. <v Speaker 1>Although I don't, I don't. I still don't think I <v Speaker 1>ever bought Super Mario Run. It was ten dollars and <v Speaker 1>I just I'm like, as this isn't great. All right, <v Speaker 1>that's the yesterday's poll question. We have a new poll <v Speaker 1>question we'll get to here in a second. Before we <v Speaker 1>do that, though, Jason Pinelli, why don't you tell people <v Speaker 1>where they can find you on the internet, what you <v Speaker 1>have going on the rest of your ethnicities, all that <v Speaker 1>good stuff. <v Speaker 2>No, just the two I promise, uh, you know at <v Speaker 2>Big Man Fidelia on all socials except for now Blue Sky. <v Speaker 2>I did manage to land the at Jasonfinelli dot com, <v Speaker 2>which I do own, so that's how you can find <v Speaker 2>me on there. Just search my name. I'm there. Still <v Speaker 2>writing news and stuff for game Spot. Have an op <v Speaker 2>ed coming out next week about match gathering, which will <v Speaker 2>which will be fine. Still trying to find people to <v Speaker 2>pay me to write for them at EVO At this point, <v Speaker 2>I'm not going, but I would like to. I have <v Speaker 2>a lot of really cool opportunities in my inbox. So <v Speaker 2>if you need EVO coverage and Turbo Sean will be there, <v Speaker 2>you should hang out and we did. We hung out <v Speaker 2>last year too, which was great. Yeah if if if, sorry, <v Speaker 2>somebody just put a huge version of my head and <v Speaker 2>chat and threw me off. If if, if you're an <v Speaker 2>editor listening to this and you need EVO coverage, hit <v Speaker 2>me up on my email. I would love to do <v Speaker 2>that for you. But otherwise, yeah, just uh, just doing <v Speaker 2>the writing thing. Still chugging along here. I dusted off <v Speaker 2>my Trading card game YouTube yesterday. TCG John opened up <v Speaker 2>some Pokemon packs for the new set that comes out today. <v Speaker 2>That was fun. Yeah, just doing the things. I have <v Speaker 2>weird out tomorrow, that would be fun. So if you're <v Speaker 2>at the weird Al concert in Philly, come say Hello, <v Speaker 2>that should be it should be a good time. I <v Speaker 2>did not go to uh a cold Play concert yesterday. <v Speaker 2>That was not me. I was not any wordy. You're there. <v Speaker 1>Protest too much me? Thanks? Uh Happy to have you <v Speaker 1>on the show, Jason. Happy to hear you're you're busy. <v Speaker 1>I hope you're able to make it out to EBO. <v Speaker 1>Sounds great time. Yeah, what else have you been? I'm <v Speaker 1>not I said to say it sounds awesome me. I <v Speaker 1>want to go someday. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, even if even if you're not a fighting game fan. <v Speaker 2>I mean, granted, it's more enjoyable if you are, but <v Speaker 2>just being in an arena and watching those matches pop <v Speaker 2>off and like the the and even games that like <v Speaker 2>I don't follow to extensively outside of EVO will be <v Speaker 2>absolutely bonkers on that stage. I fell in love with <v Speaker 2>Guilty Gear because of a Rev two tournament the first <v Speaker 2>time I was at EVO in twenty eighteen. That was awesome, <v Speaker 2>and then last year Guilty Gear was one of the <v Speaker 2>best tournaments they had. Street Fighter six was really good. <v Speaker 2>I'm excited to see Fatal Fury show up for the <v Speaker 2>first time this year to see what that competition's like <v Speaker 2>in a situation where it's separated from the Esports World <v Speaker 2>Cup and the people who run that. I'm in. I <v Speaker 2>love EVO. If I'm I'm not in attendance, I will <v Speaker 2>be in the twitch chat watching it. I will do <v Speaker 2>the thing that I do every Friday of EVO when <v Speaker 2>I'm home Evo. If you don't know, because they run <v Speaker 2>so many tournaments, they have eight different Twitch channels, and <v Speaker 2>they will they will run one Twitch channel for every <v Speaker 2>tournament that they have a whole schedule going. You can <v Speaker 2>follow it on their socials. <v Speaker 1>And so impressive organization that got going on. <v Speaker 2>It really is. I will take these screens and I <v Speaker 2>will put four here, I'll put two there, and I'll <v Speaker 2>put two there, and I will be surrounded by fighting games. <v Speaker 2>If I'm not actually in the arena, but I really <v Speaker 2>want to get there, please let's do it. <v Speaker 1>Fantastic, All right, let's see here new poll question. Do <v Speaker 1>you want Infamus to come back? Yes? No? That is <v Speaker 1>going to go up on is actually I think it's <v Speaker 1>up right now. It's under posts. If you go to <v Speaker 1>YouTube dot com slash at giant Bomb you can vote there. <v Speaker 1>We'll get the results. Talk about it on game mes <v Speaker 1>Mornings here on Giant Bomb on Monday. Speaking to Giant Bomb. <v Speaker 1>In a couple of minutes, I'm gonna get Donkey Kong <v Speaker 1>Bananza up and running on this website. We're gonna play <v Speaker 1>some of that live. You guys can watch that, and <v Speaker 1>then we will go into U Peak F I have <v Speaker 1>installed a mod that enables as many people to well. <v Speaker 1>I have those limits set to six team, but I <v Speaker 1>can change that if I need to, so at least <v Speaker 1>up to sixteen people. So we're gonna get a bunch <v Speaker 1>of friends in there. Jason, you do anything later? Do <v Speaker 1>you want to play? You you want to play Peak <v Speaker 1>with us? <v Speaker 2>What time? <v Speaker 1>I think it's at three pm eastream. <v Speaker 2>I believe that might be cutting it close, but if <v Speaker 2>I am around, I will pin you again. <v Speaker 1>You can, Yeah, if you can, you can do. The <v Speaker 1>good thing about this is like all you gotta do <v Speaker 1>is just hop into the game and I'll invite you. <v Speaker 1>Just let me know because once you're in there, it's <v Speaker 1>proximity chat, so you'll just be you'll be good to <v Speaker 1>go at that point. <v Speaker 2>So cool. <v Speaker 1>Uh, Yeah, we're gonna I think we're gonna get Dan <v Speaker 1>and Kayla in there if as long as they can, <v Speaker 1>you know, Dan's got to get it set up because <v Speaker 1>Kayla's going to be hanging out with them. But that's <v Speaker 1>the plan and they'll be should be a lot of fun. <v Speaker 1>I enjoyed that game. I want to play some more <v Speaker 1>of it, all right. I think that does it for <v Speaker 1>what we need to talk about at this point. What <v Speaker 1>I usually do is I say thank you Jason Finelli <v Speaker 1>for hanging out with me and talk about video games. Man. <v Speaker 1>I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>I am always happy to do it, sir, anytime you <v Speaker 2>need me. <v Speaker 1>Thank you all for listening and watching. You are the <v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one, <v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye. He'll be never Gon'll <v Speaker 1>be bad. <v Speaker 2>M m <v Speaker 1>M
