Speaker 2: Welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

00:01:09
Speaker 3: Welcome back.

00:01:10
Speaker 4: It is have a number two Kentucky Sports Radio. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. On the text machine, one person writes, Matt, I'm sitting here with my wife and she is very worried that if you buy a house that no one will take care of your landscaping and it will turn into being gross.

00:01:29
Speaker 3: Will you assure her that you will? Yeah?

00:01:32
Speaker 5: Concern.

00:01:33
Speaker 1: What's why they have people to do that for you. You have a pool guy, have a landscaping guy, get it all, take care of it for you.

00:01:38
Speaker 3: I don't know who those guys are, though. Somebody will have to.

00:01:41
Speaker 1: Hook you up.

00:01:41
Speaker 5: You'll find them.

00:01:42
Speaker 1: We have people.

00:01:43
Speaker 3: You got people, I got people. Okay.

00:01:46
Speaker 4: They even have a room in there where I feel like I could put a studio, yes for uh you know, a radio and.

00:01:52
Speaker 1: Nice area for that. Yeah, man, Mario play studio.

00:01:55
Speaker 5: You're chair in the kitchen in the house.

00:01:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean a house I'm in now.

00:01:59
Speaker 4: We can't Mario's not allowed to put the chair in the middle of the kitchen like he did last time.

00:02:04
Speaker 1: There are two priorities of match. Looking at a house, where am I gonna put my shoes? Are gonna put my books?

00:02:11
Speaker 4: That is true, especially the books, because now the books are like they're a whole. They're my one thing, So you got to make sure there's a place for it. It can be like a library, have a nice just like a good Man k area. This is like outside watch TV, so outdoor grill, grill. I'm big on the grill. All right, Let's let's talk about a couple things here real quick. First of all, the UK basketball recruiting question. I keep getting some version of this and the thing basically saying, Matt, you were on a kick talking about UK basketball recruiting issues. You've stopped. Why, And that's a I think a completely fair question. I still have the same worries about the UK basketball recruiting I'm, if anything, more worried about it now than I was, because less and less time is coming now. With that said, I have just accepted we're not gonna get any high school players. If we do, that's fine, I think you can say without question in terms of high school basketball recruiting. Unless something changes with Tyron Stokes or Christian Collins, it's an epic fail by UK. Whether that is the failure of the coaching staff, clearly the coaching staff plays some role in it. I mean, whether it's fifty percent, thirty percent, one hundred percent, the coaching staff is part of the failure.

00:03:39
Speaker 3: It is a failure.

00:03:41
Speaker 4: When you at one point led on three of the top ten guys and you ended up with none of them. And when two of the top ten guys had ties to Kentucky and you ended up with none of them, that's a failure. To what extent are their circumstantial factors, whether it's with JMI or UK. I have thoughts on that I have given. I've taken a step back to try to understand, and have given especially JMI, a lot of time to try to help me understand. That has not been something that's happened much. I kept thinking it would, and it really hasn't. So when we get to portal season, if it's still an issue, you'll.

00:04:20
Speaker 3: Be hearing me rail on it, all right.

00:04:23
Speaker 4: The thing is, though the season's still going on, there's two and a half weeks left in the tournament, so there'll be plenty of time. But don't get me wrong, my worry about recruiting is still there. It is an epic, epic fail that we have no players, epic fail.

00:04:38
Speaker 3: And now the portal. They might go kill the portal.

00:04:43
Speaker 4: So maybe it'll work itself out, but it doesn't excuse what was an epic.

00:04:47
Speaker 3: Failure of high school recruiting. You.

00:04:50
Speaker 4: I will go so far as to say it's two years of epic failure. You got the most talented freshman class in the history of college basketball, and we don't really have any of them. Malik has been great. I love Malakai, but there are nine the first nine picks of the draft will all be freshman, and somehow we didn't get any of them, and we were in on a couple of them. Yeah, and then you take the next year's class and you follow it up with zero. That's a tremendous failure. And Mark, Pope and Uk and jam I need to own that. When the season's over, I will confront Mark about it. I'm gonna confront Mitch about it if he ever talks to us again. But it is it's a disaster. And if they try to say otherwise they're just wrong.

00:05:36
Speaker 5: I'm ready for the spin. It's coming there, but get ready. They'll have their portal haul. And two they'll act like they weren't interested in the refreshment class when it hasn't been two weeks since we visited Stoke and they've tried with all these guys and have dropped the ball with a lot of them. There was guys, it was in the final hour. We're national people, not even us around here, people that are completely unbiased. They're like, yep, about done with Kentucky and player X, whether that was Stokes in October or Collins and then didn't or look like I'm not gonna end up with any of them.

00:06:05
Speaker 4: And they may get a great portal class. I mean, they may get a great portal class and it doesn't end up mattering. But all you gotta do this is what I would say Ryan, When you rely solely on the portal, that might work, but then you also might have a scenario like this year where it doesn't quite work, kind of works but doesn't really. Wouldn't it be nice to have in addition to Malachi another like star freshman. Wouldn't that be not what if Caleb Wilson was on this team, Like, what if Caleb Just imagine you put Caleb Wilson on this team, how different it would have been.

00:06:41
Speaker 5: Another one they lost in the final moment.

00:06:42
Speaker 4: They lost in the final moments. So I don't care what they say. I'm just gonna tell you, I don't care what any of them say when the season's over. They tried to get these guys and they did not get them. And this is Kentucky and Kansas again. Look at the top teams. Kansas has Darren Peterson. North Carolina has Caleb Willson, Duke has Cameron Boozer. Kn's what's the guy you? Yukon has one of them? Tennessee has Nate amen Cal has Darius a Cup Houston Houston has Kingston Flemings. Okay b Yu where Mark Pope came from, has aj Debonza. We didn't get any of them. There is no excuse, and whatever it is that led to that has to be fixed. If it's Mark, then it's Mark. If it's Jami, then it's jam I. If it's as I think kind of both, then they both need to be fixed. And I so so just cause I'm not talking about it doesn't mean, I don't feel it. My passion is still the same on it. I decided to kind of hold my fire.

00:07:57
Speaker 3: To give Jay.

00:07:57
Speaker 4: I thought it was reasonable to give Jami a chance to help me understand, help the fans. Nobody understands. Still two months later, what the situation is?

00:08:06
Speaker 3: No one.

00:08:08
Speaker 4: They did one interview during the broadcast, and you know I didn't. I found it a little helpful, but not much. And Mitch's am I, Mitch's m I A when is Mitch doesn't speak enough man enough?

00:08:22
Speaker 1: He's am I enough?

00:08:24
Speaker 4: He is like literally, Mitch is nowhere ever except standing in the corner into basketball game where fans can't get to talk. And I'm not saying fans he needs to make himself available to fans, but he needs to talk. And the last time we saw him in public, he was yelling at a report. So you know, so if that's not clear, I still have opinions.

00:08:47
Speaker 3: I do.

00:08:48
Speaker 1: It's just I don't think the average person wants to just hear me rant about that every day. Well, and you kind of hit on the most disappointing thing to me, Like if they were leading with Wilson, leading with Stokes leading with Collins, why are they having so much trouble closing the deals? And it's not a one off thing that has happened last year. It's happening this year.

00:09:04
Speaker 4: Will be the conversation into April and May, and someone has to answer to that what's gonna end Here's what's gonna end up happening. Mark's gonna take it all on his shoulders and he's gonna say he's But I personally don't believe it's all Mark. I think it's partially Mark. I think Mark is having a hard time figuring this out and like figuring out how to connect to some of these guys, and he has a staff full of college recruiters even though he needs people to talk to agents, and it's just not But I don't think it's all Mark.

00:09:38
Speaker 3: I don't And I think you know.

00:09:42
Speaker 4: But right now, their solution, which has been their solution to every problem since COVID, which is say nothing. That's been the solution, say nothing at all. And that's the worst solution that you can have. But they've done it for six years about everything, so I'm not surprised it's the same thing here.

00:10:05
Speaker 1: You know that that article that the guys wrote the summer Jack and those guys talked about people saying how they got the closing table, and Mark was just like.

00:10:13
Speaker 4: I want to say this about Jack and Jacob, Jack and Jacob and me, even though I didn't write it, but Jack and Jacob especially took a lot of crap for that article. We have now had multiple national media members confirm that everything they said in.

00:10:27
Speaker 3: That article was correct, was true.

00:10:30
Speaker 4: Jack and Jacob took a lot of crap from the fan base, from some parts of the fan base and some other folks, and Rob Dawser and Jeff Goodman and Matt Noorlander have all said what they say is correct. So Jack and Jacob, you know, people don't like bad news. They don't, but sometimes the bad news is needed to be heard. And with that, who's next.

00:10:54
Speaker 2: Let's go to Jordan.

00:10:55
Speaker 3: Jordan, Go ahead, Jordan.

00:10:57
Speaker 6: Hey, how are we doing this morning?

00:10:58
Speaker 3: Guys doing good?

00:11:00
Speaker 6: This is actually a pretty good segue. I was at the game Tuesday night. I have a pretty funny story about Mitch Barnhardt.

00:11:07
Speaker 3: Go for him.

00:11:08
Speaker 6: We were sitting in section thirty three, like row three, right behind the Kentucky bench, and me and my buddy we've always wanted these seats and we finally got them, and you know, Mitch just stands in that corner the whole game. So we're there in pregame warm up, hanging out having a good time, and there's this woman and her son that's sitting right in front of us, and she looks at Mitch and she's like, hey, excuse me, would you mind taking a picture with us? And he was and he was like yeah, sure. So he takes the phone and like flips it around to take a selfie and she goes, no, no, I mean, can you just take a picture of me and my son?

00:11:46
Speaker 3: Oh no, that's brutal, and my.

00:11:51
Speaker 6: Face, my face was just like a.

00:11:55
Speaker 3: Yeah, well yeah.

00:11:58
Speaker 6: I talked to her. I'm like, did you know who I was? And I'm like, well, that's the athletic director.

00:12:02
Speaker 4: That's funny, though, you know, I've had I've had that happen a couple of times with me. To be fair, I appreciate the call where somebody said can can you take a picture? And I thought they meant with me and they just literally meant for me to take the picture. My favorite story about that is in the Bahamas with Jay billis when when my friend Turkey Hunter and Hubby decided to screw with Ja Billis and they went.

00:12:24
Speaker 3: Up to him and said, well, you take a picture. Hated him the phone and.

00:12:28
Speaker 4: Then just stood there like not posing with him. But Jay Billis was quick on his feet. Yep, rather than take a picture of Hubby more, he just took a picture of his own face and handed it back to him, which I thought was a good response.

00:12:41
Speaker 3: He realized they were screwing with him, and then he just did it back to him, which I liked that.

00:12:44
Speaker 5: I remember that move they did. I actually felt some anxiety for Mitch in that situation of that's got to be so awkward awesome. Maybe be out there a little bit more so people know who you are.

00:12:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, well yeah, who's next?

00:12:58
Speaker 2: Little hit to the ego?

00:13:00
Speaker 3: Shouldn't go ahead? Hey, go ahead?

00:13:13
Speaker 7: So first of all, with the Bears, they're gonna stay in there. They're gonna go to Artist and Heights. Why why do teams? Okay, if you replaced all the Chicago Bears, So so if you replaced Swift and and DJ, what would you get and how much better would you be without them? Those are key players? Why do why do the Chicago Bears always do that?

00:13:39
Speaker 4: I mean, well, you and I can have a Bears talk all air.

00:13:43
Speaker 3: I don't know that the go ahead.

00:13:48
Speaker 7: Okay, So, University of Kentucky basketball men's look, we we got big man you we keep guards or guards, yes, or are scores. But every every game that we play where we get beat and hammered, they're big. They're big guys. Beat our big guys. I mean our big guys. Their their skilled players. They play hard, but their softest description bottle cotton.

00:14:18
Speaker 3: We listen. I appreciate the call you would.

00:14:21
Speaker 4: I I do think they're soft sometimes, but then sometimes I don't.

00:14:26
Speaker 3: But there are games where they play soft. Mo is not soft.

00:14:29
Speaker 4: But I do think sometimes Malachi needs to be a little stronger and tougher.

00:14:34
Speaker 3: And then in Garrison and yellowch have been solved for sure.

00:14:37
Speaker 5: I like Malachi has turned a corner a little bit on that. The last three games for him was a gauntlet of Tennessee, Florida and then Somto That's about as nasty as you're gonna see in the SEC. Even though they lost two of those games. I did think he was a little more physical than he had been. He tried to dunk that ball at at Florida that sent Goose going crazy on the radio. Uh, but hopefully that continues moving forward when maybe the competition is as tough as those guys they just went through.

00:15:00
Speaker 1: You know, the Florida frontcourt better than probably most front courts and whole country. And our big guys did fairly well against the That's not what beat us. The backcourt beat us against fact.

00:15:08
Speaker 4: But I do think the front course heard us against Georgia's with Wisto. Here's reality in Kentucky. If people can't afford childcare, a place to live, they can't take jobs, et cetera. Housing and childcare is important, and it's not political talking points. It's a workforce problem. We're asking legislators in Frankfurt fix the basics childcare and housing so Kentucky's workforce can actually work. Visit Opportunities starts here to add your name to the Kentucky Chambers request. We'll take a break and be right back to Kentucky Sports Radio. Yeah, this is the one I was talking about here. Yeah, Yeah, you said that wasn't it.

00:15:48
Speaker 3: That's what I know.

00:15:50
Speaker 2: I said, that's it.

00:15:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckonize what you were doing.

00:15:54
Speaker 3: No, no, no to is this stone age? Yeah? Eight nine eight eighty seven.

00:16:01
Speaker 4: One person rates, Matt, what about Prince Andrew being arrested, Well, it's good to see one country is taking that seriously.

00:16:11
Speaker 3: Well, I'm serious. They just arrested the king's brother, yep, in England and.

00:16:17
Speaker 4: In our in our attorney general, an FBI director says, we're not doing any more investigating on it.

00:16:22
Speaker 3: It's ridiculous, ridiculous.

00:16:24
Speaker 4: That should go across, that should go across part everyone should agree with that, and anyone that doesn't, I don't. I don't understand. I don't understand how you can't think like I was wrong on those on those files, I thought like it won't be as as big as people.

00:16:40
Speaker 3: I was wrong.

00:16:41
Speaker 4: Like there's a ton every day, more things come out, like every day, and the idea that you wouldn't go Look, I mean, they just arrested in England the king's brother, the King's brother, and like most of the people in there are still doing their job, like still doing their jobs. And and I'm I'm shocked, and I'm shocked that the people who for years demanded that that people do like have stopped. I don't get it, but the doll's up, mat But I mean, yeah, and the Interney General gets up there and goes, how are you not talking about the dow being up?

00:17:15
Speaker 3: Well, I mean I hadn't really thought about it.

00:17:19
Speaker 4: I mean that, Yeah, that's definitely on point to this issue. Uh so, I'm but you know, I a lot of things have happened in the last couple of years that I wouldn't wouldn't have thought happened. One person writes, Matt, are you all going to see Wuthering Heights?

00:17:34
Speaker 3: Ryan? I'll let you answer that.

00:17:36
Speaker 4: Are you are you gonna go see what today's apparently a very hot, uh hot thriller?

00:17:42
Speaker 3: Romantic Margot Robbie.

00:17:46
Speaker 1: I heard it's very hot, very steamy. I will only go even see you don't save steamy.

00:17:51
Speaker 2: It's for lovers right here?

00:17:54
Speaker 3: Ye baby, that's awful.

00:17:56
Speaker 1: I will only go if yoga girl makes me go.

00:17:59
Speaker 4: Yeah, they have like very What I read is the thing is it's like very hot, you know, sex scenes, but everyone keeps their clothes on.

00:18:09
Speaker 3: That interesting, It's interesting. I don't know.

00:18:11
Speaker 1: I didn't learn it that way.

00:18:14
Speaker 3: What do you mean you learned Heights? We don't want to.

00:18:18
Speaker 5: We don't want to know.

00:18:19
Speaker 3: Brian's next statement, Yeah, I mean you read weather in heights and he's not talking about that. Oh okay, we got, yeah, we got It's good. Shut up? Who's next? That was gonna be a good conversation ruined?

00:18:37
Speaker 5: You saw, you saw where he was going.

00:18:38
Speaker 3: They can't even talk about Emily Bronte in front of this person. Charlene, Charlene, how are you? Charlette?

00:18:45
Speaker 8: Hi doing fine? Thank you?

00:18:46
Speaker 3: Matt.

00:18:47
Speaker 8: I'm calling talking about recruiting. N I yel has introduced an element into college basketball that competes with something Mark Pope, Hope's very sacred, which is the lure of play with Kentucky basketball. And now that has diminished, you know, the value we brought to college basketball.

00:19:09
Speaker 4: And well, he's got to get over he's got to get over that, though, Charlie, he's got to get.

00:19:14
Speaker 3: Over he and I disagree with you that.

00:19:17
Speaker 4: I disagree with you that it's diminished it because here's my question. If it's diminished it so much, whired Duke Carolina in Kansas getting these guys. Clearly there's value to being a power program. Duke Carolina and Kansas are getting these guys.

00:19:34
Speaker 3: We're not.

00:19:35
Speaker 8: We are the counterpoint, but maybely to well get.

00:19:40
Speaker 3: Over it, Mark Pope, if Mark, Get over it. Get over it, Mark.

00:19:44
Speaker 9: I mean, if that's if that's what it is, and I don't know if it is or not, but if we're not getting players because Mark Pope is still selling the jersey in a time that that doesn't work, then then he needs to do something else, you know.

00:19:59
Speaker 4: I'm I mean, I may have been the best ever CD seller, and I hold and I held sacred the values.

00:20:10
Speaker 3: Of selling CDs.

00:20:12
Speaker 4: But the moment it mint went to digital music that I need to change those values to the digital era or I will be left behind, you know.

00:20:22
Speaker 3: To put it in a different way. And I appreciate the Calle Charlotte.

00:20:26
Speaker 4: There was a time that basketball wasn't integrated, and Ate off Up and Bear Bryant were legends when basketball wasn't integrated.

00:20:38
Speaker 3: And then it was. And you either adapt or you do not, and then you go.

00:20:47
Speaker 4: And then there was a time where television wasn't a part of watching sports, and then it was. And you can sit there and act like it's not going to be the way it was us you have to adapt. Kentucky on issues of race, we took too long, both morally and then on the court. We suffered for that Tennessee took too long to address the television like the modern television era in Nebraska, and they've suffered for that in football. Right, So it is now up to us to decide in this next era of basketball, are we gonna be a blue blood or not. We have a decision to make and if we are making structural decisions that make that not happen, whether it's asking players to sign contracts no one else is asking, having a coach selling something that these players don't want anymore.

00:21:48
Speaker 3: We have a decision. Do we want to be part of the future or do we not? Right?

00:21:54
Speaker 4: Do we want to be blockbuster video? I mean, think about Netflix. Netflix's business model when it first opened was what.

00:22:02
Speaker 1: Ryan, They sent something in the mail?

00:22:04
Speaker 3: They sent you.

00:22:05
Speaker 4: Stuff in the mail, and that's what worked. And then all of a sudden, streaming came and Netflix had a decision to make, are we still gonna be the mail company? Are we gonna be the streaming company? And they became the streaming company and now they're the biggest thing in the world. We have that decision to make too.

00:22:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, And in that story Jacob and Jack did someone was quoted in recruitment saying exactly all that. It even says, I don't care where my kid's going. Are you gonna do what you told me you would do? Like they even says Pope was way too emotional in things assume talking about you know, the jersey is like, at the end of the day, what is he getting? And are you gonna follow through with your end of the deal wherever that school is?

00:22:43
Speaker 4: So, yeah, that may not be how it was with Mark, and I understand. And you might think that. You might think black and white television was better than color television, but it ain't going back.

00:22:53
Speaker 3: So do you want to be part of it, Ryan or not?

00:22:55
Speaker 1: I think there's some truth in what you were saying, and I think they better get it fixed quickly because everybody else's figured it out. Why is it take an s so long to figure it out?

00:23:03
Speaker 3: That's large em That's what annoys me. It's not.

00:23:06
Speaker 4: It doesn't annoy me that like BYU has all this money and now they're involved or whatever.

00:23:12
Speaker 3: It annoys me that are fellow blue blood programs.

00:23:15
Speaker 4: And the blue buds right now, in my opinion, are Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, and Yukon and US.

00:23:20
Speaker 3: Those four have figured it out.

00:23:23
Speaker 1: Why haven't we that's the question.

00:23:25
Speaker 4: That's it. That's it in the story. We'll take a break and be right back to SKISR.

00:23:33
Speaker 3: TJ.

00:23:33
Speaker 4: Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.

00:23:36
Speaker 3: He'll make them pay.

00:23:37
Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:42
Speaker 3: Wa I'm back.

00:23:43
Speaker 4: It is Kentucky Sports Radio AFM nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven seven two seven four five two five four.

00:23:50
Speaker 3: You gotta be sad.

00:23:51
Speaker 4: Did you see that coliseum plaza where everybody that's ever gone to UK has probably done something in has been sold to the universe. I didn't know this so that, but the one thing that's been there forever was that liquor store. Yes, almost everybody that went to UK, probably the first time you bought alcohol was at that liquor store right there on the corner of you're smiling?

00:24:18
Speaker 3: Am I wrong about that?

00:24:20
Speaker 10: See?

00:24:20
Speaker 4: You know I'm right that liquor store that has been sold to UK. I have to think when I saw that was being sold, that will be part of some sort of future practice facility.

00:24:36
Speaker 3: Dorm for sports.

00:24:37
Speaker 4: I mean it's so close to Memorial Coliseum, I've got to think that is for some sort of future thing having to do with UK Athleta.

00:24:45
Speaker 1: You know, you hear the buzz that maybe they're gonna have to build another lodge. Maybe they build a new lodge and tear the old one down and create and build something on that side of it.

00:24:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, all that stuff there.

00:24:56
Speaker 4: They said that basically, UK said they would let whoever's there finish their but.

00:25:00
Speaker 3: It looked like, uh, it might be it for all those things.

00:25:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, the liquor store, I mean, Lana's closed recently, but that was an iconic spot for UK.

00:25:11
Speaker 3: Excuse me.

00:25:11
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll listen to those that are on down, but I mean they're the places that have been in that spot. Some have closed in the last couple of years, but that is an iconic little I guess shopping spot you'd call it.

00:25:21
Speaker 3: More stores been there for how.

00:25:23
Speaker 1: Long as I've been in town. It's been there.

00:25:25
Speaker 3: I mean that liquor store has been there, Yeah, since I was in college. I mean so.

00:25:30
Speaker 1: Uh it has always been like a little taco shop or Mexican shop or something there forever pizza.

00:25:37
Speaker 5: So I think there's a place called Bangkok House there now that students love. I've not I've not been, but it seems popular.

00:25:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, so uh so that's that that's gonna go away.

00:25:46
Speaker 4: And I do think that's ultimately probably for some sort of.

00:25:50
Speaker 5: Bill Harold Leader pointed out this morning that could also be they've had that entertainment retail dining thing they're considering.

00:25:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's not close to the football stadium.

00:25:59
Speaker 4: I mean, if the goal of the retail thing is to get people to the football stadium, that's far. I mean, that's farther away than k is far. That's way far away. So I that might be what they want to do. But that wouldn't seem to be a tough spot because it's a tough spot.

00:26:13
Speaker 5: That place is known for, like people can't get here, even El Mariachi we know them well. Like they struggle against people that aren't foot traffic because you can't park. Yeah, it's a horrible spots Tanda Park.

00:26:22
Speaker 4: There's nowhere to park. So I wouldn't think that'd be where that is. But but maybe did you. There are people who say, yesterday Ryan, it was the most exciting day of hockey in the history of the sport. Four quarter final games, three of which came down to the last second, USA and Canada both on the verge of defeat.

00:26:42
Speaker 3: Both win h in exciting fashion. Did you watch any.

00:26:46
Speaker 1: I just saw the highlights highlights only, So now I don't know the other brackets. Do they face each other? The United States and Canada.

00:26:50
Speaker 4: The US plays Slovakia and Canada plays Finland. So the USA and Canada's still favorites. But those teams are good. Both those teams have a lot of people in the NHL. My Carolina Hurricanes have like six people from Finland on their time.

00:27:06
Speaker 1: So didn't some big time player get hurt for Canada and Sidney.

00:27:10
Speaker 4: Crosby that's the biggest time player, but he says he'll be back. Oh okay, but did you see that both games they won on three on three. Remember I've talked about how they when they go to overtime they do a three on three.

00:27:21
Speaker 3: Both teams won in three on three.

00:27:23
Speaker 1: Maybe there's other schools, other scores sports follow the same path.

00:27:28
Speaker 4: Canada plays Villanova in the next round of the of the tournament. But everybody wants USA Canaday, right, Oh yeah, that's.

00:27:35
Speaker 1: What everybody will The two winners be getting the gold medal game, right, then.

00:27:38
Speaker 5: They do Okay, yeah, how much Winter Olympics do we have left? I feel like we're nearing the end, but I have no idea. I've enjoyed it. It's like Sunday.

00:27:45
Speaker 4: Okay, it is Sunday, so uh, tonight they start the first ever. It's the it's a new event. It's called the ski what's it called. It's like called ski Tacular or something. It's like ski ski bill anyway.

00:28:03
Speaker 5: Mountaineering ski mountaineering.

00:28:05
Speaker 4: So you you ski uphill in one kind of skis and then you have to run up the steps.

00:28:14
Speaker 1: And your skis.

00:28:15
Speaker 4: No, you take the skis off, so you're carrying downhill skis but you're skiing on uphill skis. Then you get to some steps, you take off your uphill stairs skis, you run up the steps. Then you put on your downhill skis and you ski downhill.

00:28:33
Speaker 1: I'm questioning, how do you ski uphill?

00:28:36
Speaker 3: What do you mean? How do you ski up hill?

00:28:38
Speaker 2: It's a great question. How do you ski uphill?

00:28:39
Speaker 4: How do you ski up the same way? You just you just ski, you put one foot in front of the other.

00:28:46
Speaker 3: Skill.

00:28:47
Speaker 4: No, but I've seen people do it like ski uphill, not not I mean, not like steep uphill, but you just ski upward. It's not it's not like they go up the downhill track. They're just skiing up a mountain.

00:29:01
Speaker 1: It seems like gonna be kind of difficult with skis. Try to try to go uphill.

00:29:06
Speaker 3: It'd be harder to walk in snow. So what what?

00:29:12
Speaker 1: What is the thing you're not able to comprehends skiing uphill? The skis are designed for the speed to go down. No, there's other scenes. People used to use skis to move so like they would ski. The ones that look like tennis rockets, those those those kind.

00:29:27
Speaker 4: Of skis just skis, regular ski Have you not been watching this guy? There have been people skiing. Okay, just think about this. You see how people ski on flat ground? Now they just go uphill.

00:29:37
Speaker 1: That seems a little bit difficult.

00:29:39
Speaker 3: That's the point.

00:29:40
Speaker 4: I didn't say it was easy. The reason it's a competition is because it's hard.

00:29:43
Speaker 5: I don't want to have gravity on their sides.

00:29:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the way you're talking is how do you climb up hill? You just the same way. It's just walking up a hill, but then going up with skis on seeing in the snow and ice.

00:29:57
Speaker 3: All right, I gotta move on, Bob, Bob, go ahead.

00:30:01
Speaker 11: Bob, Yes, yes, go ahead, you got me?

00:30:07
Speaker 3: I do okay.

00:30:10
Speaker 11: Uh, just a little fun question. Since since Mark Polpe brought back the denim uniforms and stuff for the thing, is there any chances I know Will Stein is coming from Oregon and different uniform combromations. I know his dad played at the UK, is any chance for the K on the A?

00:30:31
Speaker 4: I would love it. I would love for that to happen. I appreciate the call. You know, Stein does come from a tradition of Oregon fun uniforms. That's a big part of what they do. I'd love to do it. And then if they do, why wouldn't you have a game with the old power K. I mean to me, it makes perfect sense.

00:30:50
Speaker 5: Well, here we go UK complaining again. It's one of my biggest UK athletics complaints. Basketball should have fifty throwbacks in alternates. I know people don't love wearing black or silver, but like the denims. I know last year we brought the ninety three's back. But what took so long? Football, you've probably got all kinds of stuff too, Like that's the fun things about college sports. Hell you can make your money sell them in the bookstore. Yeah, bring this stuff out of the closet.

00:31:13
Speaker 4: And football, like basketball, people have this nostalgic tradition that they that they hesitate to deviate from the old colors and the old uniforms.

00:31:23
Speaker 3: And I get it, but football doesn't have that.

00:31:26
Speaker 4: Football you have the freedom to try anything, right, and so I say, go for it, or can try stuff.

00:31:33
Speaker 3: Sometimes it's hideous, sometimes it's.

00:31:35
Speaker 4: Hideous, but they have the policy of we're only gonna use it once again once a year, so if it's hideous, well we'll have a different one next time.

00:31:42
Speaker 1: People love it, especially UK football. Of all sports we got on campus, the one that maybe could help do that to make a little a sexy look for a recruit, is football change up the universe.

00:31:53
Speaker 4: I hope they do. I don't know if they will, excuse me, but I hope they do. And even if they only do one. You know, the old time old timers have been asking for the power K uniform forever. I think you do it just for them. I mean, why not. One of the group of people that feels the least like served are old time UK football fans who are like I've been doing this forever, and they've taken my parking and they've made it harder, and I've gotten worse seats and I can't sit with my friends. Yeah, okay, well, here's something you could do that would be reaching out to them.

00:32:24
Speaker 3: That's really easy to do. Just bring back the uniforms that they love.

00:32:29
Speaker 1: Guys like Freddie will probably tear up if they do something like that. They love that power. K. Look, I think it's a great tribute to those guys. I think, yes, yeah, I think.

00:32:35
Speaker 4: Sir, that is an absolutely great idea and should be done. We'll see if it ends up. And I think will Stein is a guy who will who push stuff like your dream home awaits Bluegrass Home Center. You can choose the sighting, the shutters, the kitchen colors and more. Bluegrass Home Center's new online home design center is there for you. They've got two, three, four, five bedroom homes. They all start as low as forty nine hundred including delivery. You can get it sent to you. It's in Rudy Bear Road in London. We've been there a number of times.

00:33:07
Speaker 3: Yep.

00:33:07
Speaker 4: Bluegrass Home Center six oh six two one five thirty three hundred. It's Bluegrass Home center. They offer home only financing was zero down at the Bluegrass Home Center.

00:33:18
Speaker 3: We'll take a break and come back.

00:33:20
Speaker 4: Final segment, ks bar Trivia Tonight, Ryan's got a teammates to win.

00:33:24
Speaker 3: He won't, but that's all right. We'll be very bad walking back.

00:33:29
Speaker 4: Tell You Sports Radio eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Khalil Whitney wants to come back to college basketball. He says his recruitment is open. He did play in the NBA.

00:33:42
Speaker 1: You know, he joined us for a show this past summer when he was on the TVT team. I really didn't know him when he was here, but Drew and I both when he left, like, my goodness. You know that kids still carrying a lot of heartache and hurt from his time when he was here, and it felt like the.

00:33:55
Speaker 3: TBT thing did was really good for him, very therapeutic.

00:33:58
Speaker 1: I think for him.

00:33:59
Speaker 4: Fans kind of all rallied around him, the dagon and all that, So I think that was great.

00:34:04
Speaker 3: I love it. I mean he's still though, like he shouldn't.

00:34:08
Speaker 5: I don't think he ever played in an actual game though.

00:34:10
Speaker 3: I think he.

00:34:11
Speaker 4: Fits the mold, yeah, but not the seven years, Oh the seven year. It has to be seven years since you uh, since.

00:34:18
Speaker 5: You, I mean, we're not gonna have players.

00:34:20
Speaker 1: That's always the season he was here twenty twenty, nineteen, twenty eighteen, twenty.

00:34:25
Speaker 2: Ninety, nineteen twenty season, twenty eighteen.

00:34:29
Speaker 5: Year he left the COVID team before the year ended.

00:34:32
Speaker 3: The team that that the Tyres MAXI team.

00:34:35
Speaker 5: Because he was my profile picture. We were supposed to he was supposed to be good. He was gonna be our wing and then.

00:34:40
Speaker 4: He actually if he if he was on that COVID team, yeah, he fits the bill.

00:34:44
Speaker 3: He would have one year so he could be So he didn't play in an NBA game, I don't think so.

00:34:50
Speaker 5: He didn't get much run in the G league either.

00:34:53
Speaker 3: Well, if he.

00:34:53
Speaker 4: Didn't play in the NBA, I felt I thought he played in a game, though.

00:34:58
Speaker 3: Did he not play in a game?

00:35:00
Speaker 5: I don't think he was good enough.

00:35:01
Speaker 4: Well, if he didn't, if he oh, now let me say this, if he didn't play in the.

00:35:05
Speaker 1: Game and he's got a year got to here left.

00:35:10
Speaker 4: Then I'm for it because you remember he was good. Yeah, he was good on that TVT team.

00:35:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, he only got like three points in the G League. I can't imagine he got bumped up. He was on a ten day for Greensboro.

00:35:22
Speaker 3: Oh, he was on a ten day though, But isn't that.

00:35:24
Speaker 5: Your exhibit ten? Excuse me?

00:35:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's the that's the one the guy Alabama was on. He was on that because that's different than the other kind of contract.

00:35:34
Speaker 3: That the Baylor kid was on.

00:35:36
Speaker 4: Well, anyway, if he were eligible, I would say, if I had a year with Khalil Whitney, let's do it, man. I mean, we don't have anything everybody else players, so you know.

00:35:50
Speaker 1: I think our fan base would absolutely love that kid if he came and played one year here after way he lefter he left the first time. I think they would love it, support him.

00:36:00
Speaker 3: I mean, you're behind him, i'd before you know, I'm for it. We could use them, So let's do it. Who's next? Shiites? Wes? Go ahead? Wes?

00:36:10
Speaker 4: Hey man, I just wondering if you want to make your trip up to Miami and Ohio since they're still undefeated.

00:36:15
Speaker 3: So are you thinking about it?

00:36:16
Speaker 4: They played them, So they play tomorrow night at eight thirty against Bowling Green and it's on television, and I'm gonna I'm contemplating.

00:36:27
Speaker 3: I'm I'm I've talked.

00:36:28
Speaker 4: To their Coincidentally, their s I D or whatever used to work with me at CBS Sports the year I worked there, and he he invited me, invited me. So I'm contemplating. I haven't decided yet.

00:36:43
Speaker 7: Are you gonna take Bob and James Town with you?

00:36:45
Speaker 4: No, he's not going. Uh this would be this would probably be a solo trip. I appreciate the call if I were to do it, but I'm I'm contemplating going and seeing the undefeated red Hawks Tomorn.

00:36:54
Speaker 1: I saw the remainder of their schedule very very winnable if.

00:36:57
Speaker 4: They they just won their hardest game they won at Umask, which was the one that so they're probably gonna go into the tournament undefeated. But that raises the question of if they lose in the conference final.

00:37:09
Speaker 1: You got I think you still got to put them in. I'd rather see them get in there at a one loss team after going unefeated in the regular season than the ninth seed.

00:37:16
Speaker 4: So I want you to, I want you to. I want you to put your money where your mouth is, big boy.

00:37:21
Speaker 1: All right, I'm ready.

00:37:23
Speaker 3: Let's say we.

00:37:23
Speaker 4: Lose out and we're seventeen and fourteen and we are ahead of them in the net in the RPI, but they're undefeated. Do you want the NCAA? We could There's a world we could be the team that is being debated against them. Do you think an undefeated Miami of Ohio team would be worth taking in? Let's say we win one more. Let's say we finished nine to nine, which is genuinely a possibility, and we're eighteen and thirteen and we're on the bubble and they're the other choice.

00:38:01
Speaker 3: Who gets in?

00:38:01
Speaker 1: Well, Kentucky gets in in that aspect.

00:38:05
Speaker 4: But we went in my scenario school, in my scenario rhyme, we would be the ninth place team in the SEC. We're the ninth place team in the SEC, and they're thirty one and zero. All right now they're thirty three and one because they lose the finals of the mac I.

00:38:23
Speaker 1: Of course I want to lean with Kentucky. But if it was like that, you're Georgia. But your literal argument was ninth place team. I meant to say tenth. I meant say tenth place team.

00:38:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's unlikely we will be tenth, but we could be ninth. There's a world where we could be.

00:38:38
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm different than Ryot.

00:38:39
Speaker 3: I don't.

00:38:40
Speaker 5: I don't even consider putting them in if they don't win their conference tournament. You can't reward playing a bunch of nobody. So they have one win inside the top one and forty every team they beat but one is ranked outside of the top one forty. You can't set a standard of just schedule the easiest teams you can.

00:38:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, Shannony, you letting them in?

00:38:59
Speaker 2: That's a god. Yeah, No, I'm puting Kentucky in. I think I'm putting Kentucky in.

00:39:06
Speaker 3: If we were to play them.

00:39:10
Speaker 2: Game we win, playing game, that's what we should do.

00:39:13
Speaker 1: Playing game in Dayton. It would be the most that is, if Kentucky.

00:39:17
Speaker 3: Played Miami of Ohio in Dayton, oh my goodness.

00:39:21
Speaker 4: That would be wild. But the whole country would be rooting for them. They would like no one would be rooting for us. No one in America that's not a Kentucky fan would be rooting for us. Every single It would be an ESPN like story for three days.

00:39:37
Speaker 3: The entire United States would be rooting for Miami.

00:39:41
Speaker 5: And would our fans even go. I think we'd be so disappointed.

00:39:44
Speaker 3: Oh we'd go. I mean, if we not they'll be full of.

00:39:48
Speaker 5: Their Ohio, Well, I'm hard no if they don't win their tournament, because then they're arguments undefeated arguments out like these are the rules. The team that wins the conference championship gets in.

00:39:58
Speaker 3: It's interesting. Who's next. Let's go to tut Tuty. How are you two?

00:40:02
Speaker 10: D Tudy's doing good? Hey, you got a question? Help me settle a little argument of the phrase long time, first time don't come from the Fabulous Sports Babe.

00:40:17
Speaker 3: It does not.

00:40:18
Speaker 4: It comes from It may have originally come from that, but it comes from for me, sin of a woman. I was trying to think of, like when somebody calls that, you know some places what used to Now people don't do this anymore, but they used to hit a bell or they would like whatever. Now I've heard that The Fabulous Sports Babe did that, but I never listened to that show, So for me, it didn't come from there. But for me, I always thought the sound the guy made in Halpuccino made in cent of a woman was funny.

00:40:50
Speaker 10: Don't know if Drew was old enough or not, but I listened to her. She was a syndicated sports call in host and Ryan on a little AM Radio UH station out of Madisonville.

00:41:02
Speaker 4: Yeah, we're nice, ohcause that's the matter WMW probably. Yeah, I appreciate the call. You remember the fabulous sports Babe that I didn't listen to her.

00:41:11
Speaker 1: I had listened to the Fabulus Sports Babe probably every day for several years. She was she good, She had great guests. She was kind of entertaining, but like she'd get an athlete on, like, say you were an athlete, they ain't, Matt, you knows sains Stati reds an outfield? What's going on with all that? And everything?

00:41:26
Speaker 3: That was her question.

00:41:27
Speaker 1: That would be her question, what's going on? What's going on with all that? You know? What the are you doing?

00:41:31
Speaker 3: Up? There? Was? How is that? All? That? Doesn't sound like a very good show?

00:41:35
Speaker 1: No, well, her interview skills weren't the best, but it was a fun, entertaining show because she usually had a lot of good guests on it every day. Ask him a good question. No, but the guests were good. You would take that question and not embarrass her, and you'd go ahead and answer it respectfully.

00:41:49
Speaker 4: It is interesting that, like the first national syndicated sports radio show was a woman.

00:41:53
Speaker 1: Yes, I don't think a lot of people realize that, and she was not a babe.

00:41:58
Speaker 3: I was wondering.

00:41:59

00:42:29
Speaker 3: You could tell he's rooting for me to buy it. It's an all he's sitting there thinking about like that. You want that check now?

00:42:36
Speaker 1: Well, I gave you my concerns. I'm still concerned about some things.

00:42:38
Speaker 4: He's worried I'm gonna be lonely, but I mean I'm still gonna be. I'm by myself now. It's not gonna change. Max can come visit. Max gonna be back in a few weeks. It Yeah, to come visit. We'll take a brat. No, we'll see you later trivia tonight, we'll see tomorrow.
