Speaker 1: All right, let's do this. It is the big al MVP debate. We have Ryan Davis joining us right now. Of course, you can catch his work in the Seattle Times. He's been on here before many times. Chris Kershner also has been on here, and you can follow his work covering the Yankees in the Athletic. Nice and simple here, we'll start with Chris.

00:00:23
Speaker 2: Al MVP.

00:00:24
Speaker 1: Your thoughts.

00:00:26
Speaker 3: I'm not really entirely sure why it's a debate. Like I get that cal Raley had a great year with Seattle, hitting sixty home runs as the catchers, obviously incredibly impressive, but you know, Aaron Judge was forty three percent better statistically speaking than Raleigh offensively. Raleigh didn't grade out particularly well defensively. I get he has other duties that he's in charge of when it comes to managing the pitching staff, but you know, Judge had another historic season. He had fifty three home runs, won the best adding title. How to WRC plus over two hundred, which is not common. I'm not really sure why it's a debate Judge would be the MVP.

00:01:09
Speaker 1: Ryan Davish, your thoughts, why do you think cal Raley should be in further consideration than Chris is considering.

00:01:18
Speaker 4: Uh cal Rawley trying to catch Carlos Margus in a leverage situation and blocking every pitch. That's why you know you got two former catchers on here. And the beating that cal Raley took, the amount of innings he logged behind the plate, the amount of responsibility they can't be measured in statistics. This isn't the category for best offensive player. I mean, if it was, Judge would be a winner and a landslide.

00:01:45
Speaker 5: But it's about overall value.

00:01:47
Speaker 4: I mean, it's a gray area that's been left up to the voters and how you measure it. But I've watched a lot of bad catching in my life, and I've seen elite catching. Even if the framing numbers don't match this year, which is also inative of the strike zone changes that they've had. I just don't really feel like a player that a catcher that goes out and does what he's done and puts up the numbers he has. I just think there's too much value in what he does on a daily basis, on both sides, you know, behind the plate as well as at the plate to be overlooked.

00:02:22
Speaker 2: Dav Thank you I thought you were talking about me there for a while when you started talking about me, So thank you, thank you for the kind words. And second of all, it was nice of you to get off the Loaje deck a. You're on your cruise that you're on wherever the heck you are, because the next performer looks like they're getting ready to start. I don't know what the heck's happening behind you, but I probably don't want to know the answer to that.

00:02:41
Speaker 4: I'm at the Cosmo and at the GM meetings. There's some weird stuff going on around here. There's a huge you see that statue behind me. I mean, like it's really strange, you know. I mean, the Cosmo is an interesting place. It's just been overtaken by a bunch of middle aged white dudes and quarter zips and on cloud shoes.

00:02:59
Speaker 5: Right now.

00:03:00
Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, again, you're talking about me, So take it easy and quartership. I have Jordan zone. But I'm gonna say this. I agree with you. Ryan cal Rawley's the MVP. I've been saying it since June. I also said he's hit sixty homers. Nobody believed me on that. And the second thing, there's many reasons why historic year catcher. His numbers were what those numbers are, But he has been gold Glove in the past, Platinum Glove, all that. But what he what the different team makes for his team to me is why he's the most valuable player. Plus I'm just a firm believer in guys that win. Cal Rawly is a winner. He should win. No Offenser and Judge, we love you. And final word, he has the best nickname in the sport, so that should also be a point.

00:03:40
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:03:40
Speaker 4: To me, it's like, you look at Cal and what he accomplished this year, There'll never be another season like this again. I think Judge is perfectly capable of putting together another season like he did this year. He's that good offensively. But you know, he didn't play in the field as much. He was a liability in the field after he got injured. I just think, and we're nitpicking here, we're nitpicking both of these guys in any other season if they don't If you know, one of these guys throws out this season and they don't have them together, we're not having this debate. We're talking about as two guys that put together ridiculous seasons at the same time. I mean, I remember the year with Trout and Miguel Cabrera and Miki getting the triple crown. I mean, I guess to me, and I'm sure there'll be a lot of anger and a lot of debate, but you know, I just look at the value of catching and the defensive position and it's just it outweighs any other position on the field significantly.

00:04:39
Speaker 6: Chris, this is my This is how I always argue when people are arguing this. I want you to tell me why cal Rawley is the MVP, and then I want Ryan to tell me why Aaron Judge is the MVP, because I think when you put out there the things that you think, Okay, Aaron Judge did this amazing, we're talking about value, and if you don't look at the other person's value, I don't think you can truly come to the determination of who should be the MVP unless you're only looking at the person that you think should be MVP.

00:05:14
Speaker 2: You follow what I'm.

00:05:15
Speaker 3: Saying, Yep, Yeah, I mean I think again, Roley had a great year. You know, AJ said he had a historic year, and that absolutely should be considered here when we're talking about who shouldn't and shouldn't win MVP hasn't been done before. He had the most home runs in a single season by a switch hitter. I get all that, and also again he's managing and pitching staff on a day to day basis. He's the leader of the team. Mariners won the division for the first time since two thousand and one, and Cal obviously had a huge role in that. So I certainly get the argument there. My point is that is all of that, you know, does that come close to what Judge's difference is when it comes to what he did offensively? And I also think it's being discounted. You know, you talk about Cal's leadership, Well what about Judges leadership. You know, he was the leader of a team that won ninety four games, tied for the best record in the American League. Obviously, you know, you speak to all of the players and everyone raves about his leadership. He had a great season defensively. Obviously he had the elbow injury which impacted his throwing, but you know he was still fifth and outs above average for all right fielders. So I guess, you know, does that leadership aspect what he did defensively? Does that give Judge the edge over Raleigh. I think both of these guys are ultimately deserving of winning the MVP. But you know, in my opinion, again, I think the offensive differences are just too big in judges favor.

00:06:48
Speaker 2: Right if as if you look at it, go ahead, go ahead.

00:06:52
Speaker 4: No, I'm totally going to use this argument theory with my girlfriend. So when we're having an argument, I want you to go from my perspective and I'll go from yours.

00:07:00
Speaker 5: I mean, that's going to help me out a lot, I think, because I'm always in trouble.

00:07:04
Speaker 4: To me, it's the argument for Judge is this, His numbers offensively were so good it doesn't matter what position he was playing, whether it was D H right field, whether he was good in the field or not. His offensive numbers were simply so unbelievably good that it doesn't matter anything else that that that that alone, what he did at the plate can well what he did at the plate, the shear, the sheer, statistics that he produced h overweight or over you know, outweigh any narratives of leadership or even defensive metrics that I find kind of you know, not always reliable, or you know, the concept of leadership that everything he did at the plate alone puts him over the top of what anybody else did. That's the argument you make for in Judge.

00:07:53
Speaker 6: All right, So Ryan and Chris, this is my question, and maybe this can't ever be done because we're just talking about in a vacuum. If you traded cal Ray for Aaron Judge, do each team end up at the same place? I'll go to Ryan first. Does each team end up in the same place? Does do the Mariners end up in the same place if they got Aaron Judge? And then Chris you can answer right after he's done.

00:08:23
Speaker 5: That's a good question.

00:08:26
Speaker 2: I'm looking at.

00:08:27
Speaker 4: I'm thinking about who the Mariners have as catchers and what they would do. Yeah, that I don't know that they would. I mean, Aaron Judges' numbers were so good and so unbelievable. But the amount of trust that is placed in cal Raley on a daily basis to handle the pitch calling, the game calling, the defense, the defense, a lot of the strategy. I don't know that any other catcher out there not named JT. Real Mudo fits that.

00:08:56
Speaker 5: Bill. I mean, maybe you know.

00:08:57
Speaker 4: Because Kirk and all those other guys like all is elite and what he does. And I don't know that you can find somebody like that.

00:09:08

00:10:08
Speaker 3: I think if the Yankees added Raleigh in place of Judge, I think they would still have a really good offense because the Yankees did have a good offense even if he picked Judges numbers out. I just think if we're looking at it on a year to year basis and what Judge has done consistently, now, I think they would be worse off in the long term. But if we're talking about just this year alone, it's probably similar. But I would want judges consistency for the long term.

00:10:39
Speaker 2: Okay, well, I have two questions on this since Scratch parted up. If Judge was hitting in Seattle, would his numbers go down? And if Raley was hitting in New York would his numbers go up?

00:10:50
Speaker 6: Right?

00:10:50
Speaker 2: Because Seattle is so hard to hit in New York has two of the shortest porches in baseball, So if they were switched, would the numbers change a little bit?

00:11:01
Speaker 3: I think, if I'm not mistaken, that Raleigh would have fewer home runs in Yankee Stadium than he would in Seattle. I'm actually, Chris, come on, do you actually believe that you would not believe.

00:11:16
Speaker 2: That in real life? You believe you could do this and dad, and you don't. You're not telling me. If Cal Rowly played in the Yankee Stadium and hit left handed one hundred games, he wouldn't just yank twenty more homers in there because he's just gonna out and snatch balls down the Oh come, I mean, I hate playing one hundred games in Yankee Stadium. Thank you for bringing that up. Thank you for bringing that up. Because he can't because he's Calor he's gonna be the MVP. That's up.

00:11:41
Speaker 3: You could have fifty nine home runs in Seattle and fifty four home runs in New York.

00:11:45
Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I the numbers don't lie, right, Oh god, there are times right still, there are times are right questions that cast.

00:11:54
Speaker 5: I mean, Stock asked that Cole Young hitting a four hundred.

00:11:56
Speaker 4: And eighty foot home run initially, and then they had to go in and reach so and magically, sometimes that cast doesn't seem to work.

00:12:06
Speaker 5: It's not just Yankee Stadium.

00:12:08
Speaker 4: You know, cal Raley playing in the Al East Benway, Toronto. I mean like in the in the West, you're playing in Anaheim, and well, Sacramento has become a launching pad now Texas, but you know Texas isn't great. Yeah, Houston can be I don't know. I I like, I think too is like you're you adjust you're hitting level to your to the park itself, and how you would do.

00:12:35
Speaker 5: It, I don't know.

00:12:36
Speaker 4: I just think like if you put cal Ra in a Yankees uniform and he did the stuff he did this year, they'd be building a freaking statue outside of Yankee Stadium for him. I mean, like, you know, the the they'd be writing songs about it.

00:12:49
Speaker 5: It's just it's a different mindset in New York. But like Judges, just Judge.

00:12:54
Speaker 4: Is just different that Like, the dude is like hercules out there, and I don't take it.

00:12:58
Speaker 5: Away from him. But like again, like we're.

00:13:01
Speaker 4: Talking just about measuring value, and I just you know, to me, there's a lot value and one position over every other position in baseball, and that's catcher. And maybe I'm biased because I played it poorly in college, but like it's just and I watched so many catchers flame out and so many guys that you think are gonna be good and it just doesn't happen. And here's a guy that put together this sort of season and we'll never see a season like this again. He doesn't, you know, there is never going to be a season like this from a catcher ever again in.

00:13:32
Speaker 2: Baseball, true, true, okay, stack cast. I once watched a home run on stack cast at Steinbriger Field that went three hundred and fifteen feet in defence was three twenty, so I've yet to figure out how stack cast works. And then they went back and changed it. So you can take stack cast sometimes and throw it out the window. But this is my vote. My vote doesn't matter. Before we ask you, guys, who you think is gonna win because of voting. Cal Rawley's gonna win because Divish is in the Hall of Torture and Chris I don't know if you guys are in the same hotel, but his room wins, so therefore Cal is going to win because just because of the background. That's it. No unbiased opinion as it can get.

00:14:08
Speaker 3: Well, I can tell you that it's not going to be unanimous if if Judge wins or Rally wins. I've spoken with voters who have voted for Raleigh. I've spoken with voters who voted for Judge, so I think it might be a close race. But again, I would be surprised if Judge didn't win, just considering his numbers.

00:14:30
Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, I think Judge is probably going to win. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I've kind of done, you know, the internal polling as well, and I think Judge might edge cal out minimally. And that's I mean, that's what's crazy. Like I was looking when at the numbers and you just go through, I mean, think about this, Jose Ramirez is probably going to finish third, Bobby what's going to finish fourth? And look at the seasons they produced as well. What the top two guys have done is so different than anybody else in a long time in baseball. That's what's made this so unique. I mean, you look at Ramiers this year, you look at Witch years, you look at all this stuff that they're they're very MVP caliber, and then you have these two guys doing stuff that hasn't been done in the game. And that's what's pretty ridiculous about all of it.

00:15:23
Speaker 6: Does this mean this is pretty and Chris, does this mean if Aaron Judge wins that a catcher will never win the MVP again because the last one to win it was Buster Posey and it's going to take massive, massive numbers.

00:15:40
Speaker 2: If cal Rally does not win this year.

00:15:43
Speaker 3: I don't think it means a catcher is not going to win. I just think, you know, we see it across other sports, like sometimes guys have crazy seasons and don't win MVP because another guy had a crazy season. So I don't I don't think it means that a catcher is not going to win again.

00:16:01
Speaker 2: Okay, so we just got away for judging Otani to retire. Then what you're saying, Oh yeah, I mean, I mean it's crazy though, And I know, Christy, I know you're a Yankee homer. I get it, But like, aren't people tired of voting for Judge? Aren't they tired of voting for Judge?

00:16:18
Speaker 3: I'm certainly not a Yankees homer. I think if you ask whence, they would say the opposite of that.

00:16:24
Speaker 5: So I think I.

00:16:29
Speaker 3: Think there's definitely judging Otani fatigue. But again, if they're going to continue putting up crazy numbers, then they should be rewarded. It's like the NBA with Nicole Jokic. If Yoki is going to go crazy every single year, does that mean he shouldn't win MVP just because he has good numbers and the other guys don't have as good numbers, So I don't get the argument when it comes to voter fatigue. If a player deserves it, then they should win, no matter how many MVPs they've won.

00:16:55
Speaker 2: That's fair. Before we let you go, I gotta know, we talked manager of the Year before you guys came on here. So it was winning the manager of the year in the American League. And I know Divish, because he's a Mariner's homer, was definitely gonna say Dan Wilson. But I'm expecting what do y'all to say? John Schneider, probably the guy that's right here on the screen.

00:17:13
Speaker 4: I'm thinking bout. I think Voat's gonna win it. He should win it. Vote had the least amount of talent. I mean, they were gutting that team. You know, they dropped Naylor, they got rid of guys, and you know, at one point in the season they were cooked, and then you know, they.

00:17:28
Speaker 5: Just kept playing.

00:17:29
Speaker 4: And Stephen Bote is one of the best human beings I've ever been around. He was with the Mariners for one year and I think he does a fantastic job.

00:17:39
Speaker 5: I you know, given what he had the talent he had to do. What they did this year.

00:17:45
Speaker 4: I think that's deserving a Manager of the Year, but not everybody looks into that perspective, and so much of it is based on what you thought the team was going to be before. I will say this about Schneider, like, there's a lot that can go wrong in Toronto and people have kind of you know before or the shoo. People are always looking for something to go wrong. I thought he did a great job. I think it's I think all three of these guys. The big thing is it's not like strategy, because they've been beaten up for their strategy, all three of them. But what these guys get is the players to prepare and play and play for each other in a way that I think that's the biggest part of manager.

00:18:19
Speaker 5: We talk about the whole bullpen stuff.

00:18:22
Speaker 4: Getting guys to show up and work and compete every single day. That's the biggest role of the manager. It's not you know, who's going to pinch hit in the seventh.

00:18:37
Speaker 3: I think Schneider is gonna win. Okay, Schneider's gonna win with because you know, Ryan was mentioning it. Tono was projected to finish in last place in the Al East, and there was a ton of heat on Schneider going into the season. I mean, you could certainly make the argument that Schneider and Ross Atkins were managing and general managing for their jobs coming into the year, and they ended up going to the World Series and had the best record in the American League. So what Schneider did this year to frankly save his job definitely deserves consideration for Manager of the Year.

00:19:16
Speaker 1: All right, well, glad we're on the same page on that one.

00:19:19
Speaker 2: East coast bias is real.

00:19:22
Speaker 6: East coast, west coast bias. To be in the hills of Montana, he's still west coast bias.

00:19:29
Speaker 2: You guys should actually kind of what east coast bias Wayne to the east.

00:19:34
Speaker 1: Stephen Midwest that.

00:19:38
Speaker 5: We should be in Vegas in zone.

00:19:41
Speaker 1: Come on, Cleveland's the Midwest.

00:19:43
Speaker 2: David, you don't want me and you in Vegas for a couple.

00:19:45
Speaker 5: Of days ago, Well that's what I was gonna say. Are you even allowed in Vegas anymore?

00:19:49
Speaker 2: I didn't know that.

00:19:53
Speaker 1: He has to be uh what do they call it supervised?

00:19:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, yeah, when he goes into Vegas.

00:20:01
Speaker 6: When he goes into Vegas, he gets one of those cones that they put on the dog after surgery, and that's how AJ has to walk around just like this all the time in Vegas.

00:20:11
Speaker 4: I thought you were gonna go shot caller instead, so like you're holding every time shock him.

00:20:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, get off, get out of that table too.

00:20:20
Speaker 2: No, you can't talk to those people. No, you can't do that.

00:20:23
Speaker 1: All right, we've at that point of the segment. Good stuff there.

00:20:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks you guys both.

00:20:27
Speaker 1: For joining us. I really appreciate it. I know you got a lot going on right now. So, uh, you can catch Chris and his coverage in the Athletic and you can catch Ryan and his coverage in the Seattle Times. Thanks guys, talk seeing see you guys at MGM Odds. At the start of the of spring training, not even at the start of the year, Judge was at plus three Hundo, Cale.

00:20:49
Speaker 2: Rolly was plus ten. I hope someone and you know, there's some bets out there.

00:20:55
Speaker 1: On Raleigh, but at this point there's.

00:20:59
Speaker 2: Probably Marritors fan that threw through some money. Not one bet, not one person in the world bet.

00:21:04
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:21:05
Speaker 6: Oh no, no, no, no, I'm saying I bought I bought it. When you first said he's gonna be the MVP. That was before, like before even like June, or maybe it was like June first. You said it, and I think I got it at like plus twelve hundred at that point or plus eight hundred.

00:21:21
Speaker 2: I have to go back and look.

00:21:23
Speaker 1: So Judge was still dominant. Remember after what two three weeks the Milwaukee Series already at like minus something to win.

00:21:35
Speaker 2: A torpedo bets. Yeah, it was the Milwaukee Series.

00:21:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was the season of the torpedo Uh well, actually it kind of was for cal Raley.

00:21:44
Speaker 2: Cal used it, you know that guy. Yeah, but I'm saying the first four games was the Torpedo Bats series when the Yankees were like all using them and they hit all those homers off the Brewers the four game sweep, and everyone's like, oh, the new thing the torpedo Bat had that guy. I mean, they both didn't make the l C, so not that.

00:22:03
Speaker 1: Great, right. The impacted some guys and it didn't impact many others. And that's actually what happens. Make the World Series the Mariners, Mate, you're talking about the Mariners.

00:22:16
Speaker 2: I'm talking about I'm talking about the Yankees and the Bruers. Sorry, the Brewers made the the Yankees.

00:22:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, if you watched the first four games and you were a buyer into the Torpedo Bats and also thought, oh, man, brus don't have any pitching. Wrong and wrong. Do we value war enough for catchers? That's the only thing I'm thinking about, Like, are they getting enough?

00:22:42
Speaker 2: Can't quantify it?

00:22:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, they get some credit, extra credit, But I'm like, do they.

00:22:46
Speaker 2: Get You can't quantify it, that's mine look at their salaries. They can't. They can't quantify it.

00:22:50
Speaker 5: They won't.

Jeff Fletcher wrote a story in the Orange County Register about Lucas Giolito not working out for the Angels a couple seasons ago when they acquired him, and they brought up his divorce as reasoning.

00:24:22
Speaker 2: You love the Angel Scott.

00:24:24
Speaker 1: The Angels are the gift that keeps on giving content wise, and Fletcher is one of the beat reporters out there. This is definitely coming from a team official. They don't mess around with their coverage the part from the story. The Angels believe part of what went wrong with Giolito then was that he had started divorce proceedings right before the trade, unbeknownst to the Angels when they made the deal and he was distracted. Sam Blom, who covers the Angels for The Athletic Quote, tweeted it and said, Wow, can't believe this was said. I Agreenumber one absolute shot fired. Number two you can still pitch despite going through a divorce proceeding. Number three krats it was public information before they acquired him. And number four he probably had a messed up elbow since he underwent Tommy John surgery soon after that.

Speaker 6: Anything else, I'm just going to hit the one thing because people forget when we talk about players like that, they're humans. Like everybody thinks like this mercenary just came in to pitch for their team and it didn't go well. For whoever said this, I don't care if it is the lowest totem pole person who leaked this out. For whoever said this, screw you, because what he's going through in his personal life could affect what's going on in the field, whether it's been out there, whether anybody knows it or not.

00:25:53
Speaker 2: All that stuff.

00:25:56
Speaker 6: You don't need to bring that up. You don't need to bring personal things up in evaluating why somebody not publicly, maybe hey, you know what we're going through this, we're you know, we're talking about this internally, Hey, this person's going through it. Maybe that goes into your discussion internally. Don't ever bring it up in the public. I just don't understand it.

00:26:21
Speaker 2: But the other thing is, didn't they trade for him and then they shipped them to Cleveland right after.

00:26:25
Speaker 1: The dump deadline?

00:26:26
Speaker 2: And then Ronaldo Lopez? Didn't they then show Cleveland like the same time. Yes, and you only had a few starts with the Angels, right like three or four starts, and then they're like, oh, no, never mind, what change am I? We're going to tell you guys right.

00:26:38
Speaker 1: One of the dumbest.

00:26:39
Speaker 2: It was one of the craziest things. But to say, I agree with Chriss to say this, but this goes back to our point we always talk about in here. Players aren't robots. Things happen off the field. Now. Listen, I played with dudes that were going through it, and they played better because they were distracted and they were thinking about other stuff and then I played dudes with the smallest, littlest, tiniest thing. To most people, they were like sit in a corner and crawl up in a ball because they couldn't handle it. So it's different personalities. That's why scouting is important. Makeup for guys is important, and trying to figure that out. But to say, oh, he didn't pitch Goodness three or four starts because he was going through divorce, which was public at that time. This is just bad. It's just bad. It's just not cool. Sorry, it's not cool. Many the Angels have been through enough recently. Aren't they still going through enough? At this point?

00:27:24
Speaker 1: They can't stop every person involved to say in the front office of it was coming from there, from commenting, especially anonymously.

00:27:32
Speaker 2: I don't love this, but what are you gonna do?

00:27:33
Speaker 1: But that's why we're bringing it up, because we're like, what this is.

00:27:37
Speaker 6: Where Maybe this is too much, but we all we always talk about the little things with the Angels. Maybe this is too much to like lump this in with it. But organizations that are run well and run from the top, they have issues, they have problems, yes, but if it constantly keeps coming up with your organization. There needs to be a discussion about that. There needs to be a change because it all filters down from the top. I'm not saying it's perimin Asian. I'm not even saying it's just it's just Arty moreno, I could point more towards ARTI moreno than periman Asian. But if it keeps happening, you have to look to the top because that idea, those like those things that are allowed you hold everybody to a higher standard, and it starts from the top.

00:28:29
Speaker 1: By the way, for more context on this article, he was talking about rotation options for the Angels this offseason. You know it's not gonna help you sign Lucas Giolito.

00:28:39
Speaker 2: This is season back there. Let's say pay him way.

00:28:44
Speaker 1: More, way more. This is bad pr to release something like that about someone like that. I'm not saying to reveal it again, we know it's revealed, but to be like, oh, yeah, you can pitch well because he was going through divorce shootings like oh really, you know.

00:28:59
Speaker 2: But this had to come for somebody has some sort of power in the organization. Yes, this isn't from like an usher that's in the third Death, like I'm serious, Like this had to come with somebody with a little knowledge of the situation, right, so that it's just it's a weird thing to say.

00:29:16
Speaker 6: I mean, not not sign Lucas Giolito, how about not sign anybody?

00:29:21
Speaker 2: How about nobody?

00:29:22
Speaker 6: How about the fact that if this comes out and I'm a free agent and they come to me with a nice offer, maybe even the biggest offer, You're gonna have some explaining to do, Like I'm gonna need to find out like, because I want to be part of this quote family. Yes, I want the money. Yes, that's what free agents are looking for. But other free agents are gonna look at this and be.

00:29:43
Speaker 1: Like who who?

00:29:45
Speaker 2: I better be careful. I get it.

00:29:47
Speaker 6: I'm accepting this money. But I don't know that I can get super close with anybody because anything that I anything that I'm confidently telling them in in secret, that I think is going to stay in might get out. This might cook them for more than just the Giolito signing That wasn't gonna happen anyway.

00:30:10
Speaker 1: Is it going to get leaked by the HVAC technician too soon? Last thing, I.

00:30:16
Speaker 2: Don't think I mean, I think you guys are taking it I'm gonna be I don't know that other than Geolito, I don't think it. It affects other free agents you don't really want. I don't think so. I think that Giolito it might affect, but I don't think it's gonna affect it because if they come with the competitive offer and they beat other offers. Listen, say what you want about Anaheim, Los Angeles, Anaheim of Angels of Anaheim, or whatever the hell you want to call them. An I'm still a pretty good place to be. Like, if you could, if you make a lot of money, you go live on Newport Coast and and go to Javiers every day and hang out on the beaches and all that. It's pretty good living down there. It's not La but you still get the weather, and you still get some other stuff. You get less traffic and all that stuff. It's it's a pretty good place. And if you can figure out, because I was there in two thousand and two when they had the rally, the rally sticks and the monkey, the stupid monkey guy, the monkey jumping around and the rally monkey jumping around. I was there. We lost, and they all see us. To them, it's a pretty awesome place when they're going right, if you could be the one of the free ags, help turning around, give me a special place. So I don't know that. I don't know this affects anybody other than Lucas Giolito. But it's just not a good thing to say.

00:31:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's more just whoever told that to Jeff for the story? Really? Yeah, that's all really, And again, if you really want to go, we have Jeff here, that's right showtime. But if you really want to go performance, I mean, you got elbow surgery soon after that, right soon after that season ended, he shows up for spring training and gets elbow surgery. There's a chance he didn't pitch well because he had a compromised UCL. I would say that's a better chance of being the problem. And that you could say we didn't know, because nobody knew that until you want to the Red Sox and they found it could have happened then, but usually there's already some wear and tear when that happens. Just throwing that out there. You guys remember Dustin Garnett.

00:32:10
Speaker 2: The catcher.

00:32:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a catching coach now for the Braves. He was the bullpen coach for the Rockies last season. So if you can make it through that, you can make it through anything. The Rockies bullpen this past season. Holy shit. And he was the catching and game planing coordinator for the team's minor league system the previous two years. He's gonna be like, damn upgrade.

00:32:36
Speaker 2: Yeah for real, for real?

00:32:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, did you come across him at all cracks?

00:32:41
Speaker 2: Yeah?

00:32:41
Speaker 6: We played again, I mean played against each other, and let's see, probably like fifteen on he was kinda yeah, he was in that I've forgetting what his name is, the big strong right hander. They kind of came up together, Uh by hand hitting catcher ended up going to the the.

00:33:04
Speaker 2: Rocky Huh Tom Murphy, Tom Murphy.

00:33:10
Speaker 6: Yeah, him and Garneault we're kind of passing passing in the night at the same time.

00:33:18
Speaker 2: Did you get to about his back and he suing the Giants or something?

00:33:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, did you guys read about that.

00:33:25
Speaker 2: I don't know the whole story, but he's suing the Giants right because he misdiagnosed him or something.

00:33:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a pretty wild story. Basically, he said his herniated disc wasn't treated correctly, misdiagnosed as a mild obleache, strain that made it worse than sent to an outside clink by the team. But this is all coming from him. But they were injecting the wrong disc with an epidural and later admitted that was the problem again according to a story that was on his account, and said it's malpractice and messed him up.

00:33:56
Speaker 2: We should bring him on. I don't know.

00:34:00
Speaker 1: You don't want to ask him about that.

00:34:01
Speaker 2: I don't I don't talk about I don't speculate on injuries and stuff like that. I don't know. That's it. That's what he says. And that's the side of the story. And then you got to get the Giants involved, Okay, I don't know.

00:34:13
Speaker 1: Well, we're probably going to learn about that at some point.

00:34:16
Speaker 2: That case, this has been happening for a while though.

00:34:19
Speaker 1: What where someone gets hurt Tom Murphy thing, Oh Murphy's thing. Yeah, Well, because there was what was the Darren ruff had had something too?

00:34:25
Speaker 2: That was he tarp Yeah he.

00:34:33
Speaker 1: Was he on the Giants at the time.

00:34:37
Speaker 2: Hmmm. I don't know if it was a Giant now I think it was a Bruce. Here's the Bruce.

00:34:43
Speaker 1: Okay, hey we're here. Kyle Hendrix might be here too soon. He might be in the media. He's definitely gonna do something great speaker, retiring after twelve years in the big leagues. Congratulations, nice run World Series.

00:35:00
Speaker 2: Jo.

00:35:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, did a lot with a little even though that might not sound fair. I mean, he wasn't pumping a hondo. It was clinical. The professor was the nickname.

00:35:13
Speaker 2: He was on here too.

00:35:15
Speaker 6: I'd never talked to him before, and when he came on here, he was not like because you just see him walk off the mound after like getting the third out in the fifth end of the World Series. When he's on here, he's super engaging, very humble, always talking about other people. I think, congratulations, what a.

00:35:33
Speaker 2: Career media or team he's going front office office? Yeah, I think he's he's a front He's got front office written on him some team, and just because the heck, who knows he might be GM with some team next year. The way teams are highering these days, who knows he might Actually he might be too old to be a GM or manager. At this point, the Rockies are pissed they made their move too soon. They were like, damn, we could have offered Carlo instead of getting a guy from football. We could have got a guy that just we could have had. We could have had him and Ottovino at the same time. We could have together. Actually, hope they had Auto Hindo.

00:36:14
Speaker 1: That's a GM or assistant jam in Colorado. I hope they do
