Speaker 3: I really am? This show was so crazy to me because I really didn't know what it was. No, I don't think anyone really did. We just kind of thought we're gonna remodel mansion and you know, so now to get to be able to watch it all back in my family.

Speaker 1: Wait before we get into the snow, I just want everyone to hear because before we started recording, you so graciously offered to share your winnings with Susan and me, and I just I think you are just the sweetest and abby. The forest couldn't be happier.

Speaker 2: I trieds to my understanding that you didn't go to the mansion. This was your first.

Speaker 3: Time, right, Yeah, so let's take it to the beginning. So my season was Tasha Clear Covid Bubble never got to see the mansion. I was kind of bummed about that. But this time, coming in, you know, you hear about the mansion, but you don't really know what it looks like because TV is hard to tell. You know, they put the cameras in certain spots and there's certain areas you never see. You know, we're remodeling bedrooms that you really never see, and it's like so walking in, I instantly was like, Okay, I don't know what the show is yet, no clue but the fact that we get to even do anything is really cool to me because over the last couple of years, me and my wife you know, have been doing this pretty much NonStop, parthouse and stuff like that. So it's like this is right up my alley.

Speaker 1: Uh yeah, So which is harder? Which is harder? Noah doing the mansion or doing your house with Abby? Because I follow you on Instagram and watch your videos. You guys have done a lot to your place.

Speaker 3: Thank you. You think I'm silly enough to say it's hard to work with Abby on podcasts, Come on, no, Abby and I we have a good team. I actually told Abby, I'd you know, we I talked to her at night and I'd say, you would be so good at this show, but you would hate this show because there's so many elements of it that it would have been super easy. But we're working with five other people to try to convince something. We have one hour to select, you know, go through sixty items, and it's like it was a completely different animal to where it's like it was so much harder than at my house with Abby doing the design at.

Speaker 2: Your house, did you have anything that was non negotiable that you had to have that, Abigail was feeling different about.

Speaker 3: Well, I'm still working on my golf simulator in the garage that I think is for our kids, so I put it loft in. But no, I'm a pretty easy I you know, I come from the ICU. I don't fight over a lot of things. I'm pretty easy unless it's a terrible idea, like yeah, that works for me. There's only a couple of things where I'm like, that's not going to cut it. And that's kind of how we started was she'd give me options, and now it's to the point her design is better than mine. You know, it's like I don't. She'll give me some options one or two, like do you like this, and I'll say my opinion. But you know it's completely different now.

Speaker 1: Now when you say design, Noah, when you say design, do you mean she'll say do you like this fabric or that fabric better? Or do you like this wall being moved here or that wall be moved by?

Speaker 3: So this is this is where I took things from home and put it on the show. It was no different from me trying to convince Joan we can't do a gold arch over the pool, you know, to the entry.

Speaker 3: That certain things that you can't do. So when it comes to the construction side, Abby kind of lets you know, I'll steer her and what is actually realistic because I'm the one doing it, or I'm help somebody's hired, you know.

Speaker 2: But the pool who had the worst taste of the cast?

Speaker 3: And you got to be honest, Oh, we're getting into it. So I don't know. I think it's hard to say. So for me, it's hard for me to say who's the worst taste because everyone's from a different part of the country, and like you showed me a picture earlier from Arizona, Courtney's style in Arizona is completely different from sam style in North Carolina and Oklahoma. As you know, people have their things. But you know, then you have Chris from New York and it's like everyone had their own style like where they're from. Oddly enough, the girls, all the designers had the most Like I could pick a magazine, any magazine that you know it's going to have some sort of gold feature, like predictable style patterns, and that's what it would turn out. So it was like, I don't think anyone was bad in their own right. It was just predictable style from all the designers of the house, you know, the ones that were smearing it in our face that they're the best designers and we're idiots, and like, you know, it's me and Dean sitting there like rubbing, rubbing foreheads, like okay, design, buddy design, you know. But everyone had good design in their own right. It's just people were stuck to like what they knew, I think, and that's you can't really hold it against them. But you can't put an arch in every every spot.

Speaker 1: You know, who wanted to put arches? Talk to us about the gold arches if we're unless we're getting hamburgers here, I want to know what really happened McDonald's.

Speaker 3: That's what I was. All right, we'll keep it brief. We'll keep it brief, all okay. I agreed a lot with you know, at the bar. I wanted arches because they matched the arches of the house. And it's like, okay, cool, But then you know what's let's it's Joan. You know it's it's Joan.

Speaker 4: It's Joan of our I don't know if you know that it's medieval time, so Joan of arc would put an arch everywhere everywhere.

Speaker 3: When you know there shouldn't be an arch. So actually when we watched, we'll see what makes it on the episode. But and I wasn't trying to intentionally do this, truthfully, but I basically I got to redo the main mixer room that all six of us did before, and it turned into a disaster because it's six people doing different areas, you know, of the same room. So I got to redo that room. And I didn't do it intentionally, but I basically erased everything. Did. I knocked down Alisha's wall, let the light in, ripped all Jones arches out.

Speaker 3: I hope it doesn't come to that to be honest, but there are rooms that Bachelor was like, hey, we're also trying to you know, we were doing this for Taylor Frankie Paul who was coming at the end of the season at the time. So we're all like, Okay, it's got to look good for TFP. Everything for TFP. And then they're like, hey, this doesn't look good. So Sam, me and Tammy got to redo a few spaces and that was like make or break for me because it was the biggest room. So I got to redo the paint, the style of it. I redid my credenza, and I basically in my mind was thinking, I'm just gonna do everything. Nate Burkus, who's gonna Who's gonna tell me? And Nate burkis that we're wrong if we both just saying the same things.

Speaker 3: If they redid this show, which I'm like, dude, let's do a different mansion at another celebrities house, get different tasks, pull some other people on, like let's get crazy with it, you know. But having is fun because you've like Joan, people were they didn't like how John and Alicia got along. They were a little aggressive for them. They banded together like even if they weren't on the same team. But Joan has been around for you know, she's owned a few houses. She's been around for a little bit of time, and she's got money, so she's by default. No, it's pretty good style. And it's like you can at least, you know, Joan's not going to build a bunch of stuff. Where Joan messed up as she got too a little too aggressive and cocky with some of the you know, other people and it but it's like you could hop on. It's like you could have good style. You know, you can add your piece because there's we're working together. So it's towards the end, was just me and Tammy to finish the kitchen, and that was different because it's like I have the whole Oh my goodness, I don't.

Speaker 3: Let me shout out. Let's see. Let me shout out z line really quick. We have all Z line appliances. The fridge is panel ready, so there's it. All matches. The cabinets nice. I'm I'm not. I didn't get to add everything up, you know, in my head. But if I was, if I was subbing that out, I would say, that's like a three hundred thousand dollars kitchen.

Speaker 3: Well, I don't even know how much it would cost. It's so pretty. It's the prettiest kitchen I've ever been in.

Speaker 1: Yeah, we got to go back and see. I got to tell you. No, I'm in the process right now of having stuff done to my tomorrow. They're ripping out my bathroom floor and putting in a new floor, and I've put all new hardwoods upstairs. This is Kathy's version of living in hell. I don't want to do it. I don't want to live through it. I just want my God.

Speaker 3: She's been complaining, sot me, Kathy, you happen to be talking to a good listener. Let me tell you something. Part of when I left the ICU too. I didn't leave the ic but when I stopped working the hospital last few years ago, I was like, what else is going to replace that? You know, trauma ICU. Yeah, I have a passion now for like construction and helping people like you, you just knowing a few things, or even just so you don't get ripped off, or just so it's a good job. Or it's like you can do little things that can increase your life, your house, make it all better. And it's not that hard. You know. These panels behind me were seventy five dollars to make from loads. It's like somebody like you, it's like, I think it's great. You know, peek your head in there. Don't be that annoying Karen. That's telling people what to do. But it's good.

Speaker 1: Trust me, No, trust me, I do not. The only thing I did was after they laid the hardwood's. The one thing I said was I didn't want, like there's a lot to remodeling houses. I said, I didn't want like a where the floor meets the bathroom the hardwood.

Speaker 1: I did not want a piece of transition. I said, bring that wood right up to They didn't, So guess who's ripping out some hardwoods next? Week and they after we do it, God.

Speaker 3: And they should. Our kitchen was the same thing. We redid it twice because I'm a loving Man's the only way I can put it. I was a yes man at the time, newly married. I'm not saying no. But we reached it twice and had to match because we did tile and had to match. Are hardwoods with the rest of the house, and they're hand scraped. They're beautiful. So we had to rip out, you know, do some crazy stuff to try to get it all level. Because I don't want to when I'm sliding around with my socks on.

Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'm on I'm lighting well, just like I like the vibe and the feeling of I don't have all the technical design. I could get into the technicalities, I guess, but for me, I hope they show this. When I walked the judges through the mixer room, I said listen because Tyler made fun of me, like are you good without Abby? And I'm like, listen, I might not be the most technical designer, but I can sell vibes and I got to walk them through the mixer room and show so I kind of like that you want, Yeah, if you want it to be calm, I'm like, okay, let's add some sort of stone, darker wood, it's like, and then make the cool fun stuff be a fancy rug or something that's just kind of subtle but not nice. I don't like all tons of stuff we doing the mixer room. I didn't add anything. I took stuff out because there was way too much. I like things simple and then like the bold pieces to speak for themselves.

Speaker 1: All right? So what's a home trend? I mean, seriously, I'm up to my neck in this home renovation. Now, what's a home trend you love that's current? And what is one that just needs to go by the wayside Aside from marches in general.

Speaker 3: I think I think color drenching is coming back. I don't think we should have ever painted our trim white. Somebody made a mistake with that. We need I think if you're gonna do trim, it needs to be a few shades off color of whatever paint you're using on the wall, just so it kind of all blends in. I don't like the stark, so I think, hold.

Speaker 3: This is I feel like, I feel like windowk things are different, are different because then you can you know it's a window, but crown molding and baseboards and I just I'm not a fan. And then one I think to get out, Oh, I guess that was too you know, I answered it both.

Speaker 2: So do you have anybody in mind when I ask you who you think should have stayed longer than who you think should have left earlier from the show.

Speaker 3: M I think Brendan probably should have stayed longer because Brendan was like our painter, so like that's why me and Brendan were the ones that were the team behind team the Tuscany room, you know, the green kind of room, and he knows like general contract and stuff. So I think he saved me. Then he went home. But I think he is somebody that should have stayed longer and somebody that should have went home. I don't have to say I really do now. I think I think Alicia and Joan, because they were so banded together they got themselves, they both should not have made it far. That was like everyone was kind of like, okay, we got to split them up. So I think them as a couple shouldn't have made it as far as they did.

Speaker 2: And Hohodie, what was the hardest part for you getting everybody else's opinions or like where did you find difficult?

Speaker 3: I mean that is very hard. In my mind, I was thinking, okay, if I can combine like treating this whole show like a general contractor where like Sam's or Sam is a builder, Brendan's a painter, like they all have their own strengths. Dean let him go wild on something. I hope it's cool, and it's like, treat it like that in the hospital. So like that was something that is hard to do because I would in real life never have to do that because everyone's opinion is equal. But it's also like that was something that I finally kind of I felt like I did well. And what was the second part of your.

Speaker 2: Question, What was the hardest part of the show for you?

Speaker 3: The hardest part? There's a couple. There's a couple elements. There were a couple elements of this show that were very difficult. And then I had some external life parts, which I don't know if that's going to show tonight or not, but we can get into that too. So it was like there were elements of the show that everything just switched, you know. We would they the producers would come in and say, all right, you guys have an hour to send someone home, and the producers would leave that part and we'd be like, wait, like, there's not even anyone in here making sure, like we have to vote in an hour anyways. So stuff like that are okay, challenge a challenge loser goes home, winner gets to have immunity. It's like, oh okay. And then about midway through of the show, my mom had I knew she was having some sort of health issues before, she had an ultrasound that showed some hotspots and stuff, and she was coming over and doing the song and everything before I left. And then about midway through that show, I got to see a call CET actually so I and I know how to understand ct reports and you know, and it was pretty much me reading this thinking, okay, this is this is not even what I thought it was. You know, this is past that point Like this, I debated going home, you know, and you don't know what's going on at home. But she's got the whole family. You know, we've got twenty niece or twenty grandkids she has, so it's like she's surrounded, you know, yeah, eleven kids, so she's surrounded. But I I was struggling because I'm talking to her and she's saying everything's okay, but I'm like, you know, different, I know you're gonna die, you know, I said that in the interview, like I don't know my mom will be able to watch this, and it's like, so there were there were those things where it's like, Okay, I'm either I either need to do this or not. You know, I am having fun. But it's like so once I kind of decided like, Okay, mom doesn't want me to come home, I'm just.

Speaker 3: No, exactly, No, it was, and she didn't. She had her own wishes, and I'm like, however, I can use the money to help go do whatever treatments or whatever you want to do, whatever you think is going to give you peace, because I you know, I've had the fortunate and unfortunate situation of seeing a lot of people die just from my career, and it's like, you need to make sure people have autonomy in peace. And it's like if I can do that, And she was like, you know, win the show. You can win the show. Dude, I'm going to win the show. You know. So that kind of like switch that was like a pivotal switch. I'm like, dude, I'm going to win this show. And you know, I don't even care. We'll see what happened. So it was a crazy show because it was something you know, HGTV is something I've always wanted to do. I talked about it, you know, when I was in nursing school. I'll be like, yeah, you guys see me on HGTV. I don't know when, but you will. It's like to get a Bachelor HGTV show. Best news in my life, perfect right, worst news of my life at the same time, you know, my mom is you know in My mom passed in October, so we got time with her and I got to take care of her and it was a beautiful moment. But it was still like trying, I'm trying to figure this out on a TV show. Yeah that I'm also trying to renovate and do interviews and like not crying my interviews and Joan and Alisha are pissing me off, and it's like, you know, and Dean tried to send me home. I'm like, this is you know. I would always think like I would love to do this show again, not having all this stuff going on. But then I'm like, thinking about it, I probably wouldn't have won or had the drive to win, you know, and it's like, Okay, oddly enough it all worked out in it.

Speaker 2: But I have a question. Have you always been into this even during your career in the hospital. Have you always enjoyed doing home renovations.

Speaker 3: I love working with my hands. I like I like being challenged. We used my parents, you know, eleven kids, homeschool family. We worked. They used to most of us, you know, like we would work growing up, doing you know stuff. They would drop us the house and we would work, you know, stuff like that. And then I kept up. You know, when I was twenty one, I bought my first house and did you know, worked on it and.

Speaker 3: Though, Yeah, I love it. And now it's something I get to do with my wife and it's like and she loves it, and she's taken design classes, and I'm like, this is all better than I for sure.

Speaker 3: I want to save art. She's not an arch person. I had to convince her for the two we have like a half kind of arch. She's not an arch person, and she knows how to use a hammer, So I'm arches aren't safe around here.

I put that on my flight. It's in Tulsa. Obviously, I'm keeping that. So I walked home with a silver like, Howie Mandel, I have a great case of money. Yeah. And it was also good because I'm like I got to be like, order your supplements, order whatever things you're doing, because it's like this is why.

He did the Santorini room and readd that and Tammy got her own entry that hadn't been done and then the winner that or the loser of that one goes home. The winner's you know, duel in the kitchen, and it's like it didn't slow down. That's why I all my friends you know, told me the show. They're like, we didn't even know what we were watching, but we loved it. It was like, dude, same for me. I'm watching it. I'm like, wait, I actually love this show. It's it's actually pretty hilarious. Like this is great, so all in all, fantastic experience for me.
