Three, twenty sixteen is over, but it doesn't have to be. You could sit here and join us for the rest of the evening as we cover what happened at the show and just life and whatever. I'm Jeff Gersman. This is giant bomb dot COM's coverage of the E three twenty sixteen post show. I'm joined by editorial minds from giant bomb dot com and beyond. We've got Brad Shoemaker. Hello, Hi, how's going. What's going on? How much he's sniffing that table again? Don't don't, don't do not stiff that table on the coffee tables, on that table. Yeah. From CET dot com. Jeff Bacalars in the building. Hey, thanks for having me. This is great. Yeah, thanks for coming. You've been like a round a bunch but lurking and then you finally let me sit on the couch. Specially. My understanding is that you've been out looking at video games. Yeah, a couple, all right, we'll get to that. Austin Walker, how you're going, President Council? Saw some video games today? Great? And yesterday I wasn't here for the check in yesterday, right because I was seeing video games. Oh man, that's a dedication. Yeah, I love them, love video games. Everyone loves video games on the right place. Dan Records, Hello, Hello, Hi, Hi, how's it going great? Great? It was a good show. Yeh, had a great week. Thank you, thank you all right? Hey we got you all three? Oh, thank you so much. I did pass the Doritos thing, and at one point all the people dressed up as Doritos started singing Happy Birthday. Right after they did like a Space Invaders name thing, and it was definitely for like some crew guy or something down there, but I got to pretend that Deritos were singing to me. Well, okay, it was a good time. It's nice like your dreams. I can't tell if any of the C three really happened. Drew Scanlon ground me it happened, okay, good. Yeah we have recordings. Okay, good. I can show you as evidence, all right, recorded evidence that the show occurred. Uh. That's that's good to hear, Drew you. Yeah, you went around and saw appointments today that I went to. Yeah, how'd that go well? For starters there? Actually you were with us on that well that you were with the with the Vinny and Dan walking around E three live. Yeah, coming that thing? What's uh? How Yeah, how'd that go? It's a lot of it's a lot of brands there. Brands are awesome. Yeah. Uh. Did you feel like the teams were being properly monetized? Uh? Yeah, because there was a there was a Facebook tent was an experience. You're right, it was. It wasn't a tent experience. Here's a solid building. Here's the Facebook varience. Watch video game trailers. Yeah, on on blue diamonds with Facebook logos on them. I can say with some authority, I don't think I've ever done that on Facebook. It was not part of the Facebook experience, not my Facebook. It is the free experience for Facebook. My Facebook experience is looking at people I went to high school with and going yeah, that's right, fuck you yeah yeah, yeah yeah. You could probably do that there too. It would have to be there though. Oh well, that's that's highly unlikely. There's a line to get in there to hold fake iPads and watch video game trailers. There was not a line for that thing. There were people lined up, Yeah, there were people. Men. He walked in there. We like skip the line and people looked at us. But we were fine because we had a camera and they don't want to interrupt filming. Wait so you you didn't get like there wasn't an appointment for you to skip. You just like, fuck y'all, we're going in. When you're having cameras, cameras, cameras turned on, talking on the mass, no one wants to No security guy wants to come up and start talking to you, like, oh, well, they're probably doing something important. Yeah, or I'll be on a right if I stopped it. Yeah, yeah, they'll probably talk to me and it'll be awkward, like when mimes happen. Right, Yeah, but you saw video games as well? Yeah? Stuff, I did you saw Halo Wars two? Yes? Is the Is there a button that you push that makes it say all units? Yeah? Awesome? Yeah? Can you tell if it's the same recording? It is not. It is a different, different, different sound sample. Enough, the same guy is the same sample every time you hit the button that's the key. I couldn't tell. There were either there was a lot of talking. There were upwards of three different reads of that line in the original game. Yes, Hey, that game's Halo Wars all right, yeah, uh yeah, although this time it will be playable of course on PC as well, right with a mouse and keyboard. Yeah, did you see that version at all? Yes, they were showing that version. It seemed like that version even with a mouse and keyboard. We saw a little bit of it their post the press conference French where they still had like a selection wheel, like the radial menu would still pop up, which didn't seem like something like yeah you instead of all units, I guess that way, don't forget. There's also the classic local units all right, yeah, no it's I forget. Yeah, that will be side forget local units, right, but yeah, it's still very much a strategic game rather than tactical, so you are at least we only saw the first level of the campaign. There's a multiplayer beta going on right now, right until Monday, but we only saw the first level of the campaign, and it was like a giant block of dudes, all of them going in one direction and attacking one thing. So not like and the camera is like the camera angle is very much RTS, but you can't zoom out very far, so like I don't really see. You can you can group units, groups of units, units, group units, but I didn't really see at least in this level any reason to split them or do anything like that. Sounds incredibly like the first Yes, and the bases, like you can't put buildings anywhere. It's just like attached attached to you. You're little. It's a hub. It's like a building hub speaking the same game. Yeah, but it's been a long time. Yeah, I guess you know. There's plenty of room for places. Just a single player that you saw. I just saw a single player. Yes, the multiplayer beta is ongoing, though. Is it just two two factions? That's what the that's all they talked about. Yeah, it's the the Banished. That is that. The Covenant, it is it's the Covenant. Ok. It is the It's a schism of the Covenant led by a big brute guy. But it's it's all the It's all the Covenant, guys, all covenants. Oh Covenant I saw yesterday. More strategic than tactical, huh? I think? Which is Dawn of War three? Okay? The new forty K from Relic, Yeah, it's forty K Warhammer. Is there any more differential future war? Yeah? Okay, here's here's how you can tell Warhammer is warcraft. Warhammer forty K is start. That's exactly right, even no actual action for those universe. No Blizzard likes Warcraft button when they they went like, let's just do that, but not call it Warhammer. Wait, Warhammer was before before, so Warhammer is orcs and axes and stuff, and starhammert fucking space orcs and okay, it's very similar. SERI game Space Marines. Space Frame was then. Yes, So the thing that's weird about about don War three or maybe not weird so many and I want to go see it this morning, and they've gone back to big armies, all right. Don War two was like this almost Diablo style thing. I'm like, oh, I I have Diablo meets and RTS we're like, oh, I have like five hero units who are my It always felt like the missions I hated from RTS campaigns where they're like you don't have a base because you're infiltrating, right, And I'm like, no, that's not at all how I want to play. I think a lot of people felt like you and we copy. I don't even mind those types of missions, but a whole game of that is too much. Yeah, Like that had like lute drops and had like you know, and it was it was based on the same sort of like Company Hero style small tactical skirmis, take cover behind stuff. That stuff I liked a lot of, like the small skirmish taking cover base Company and Heroes at least had uh, you know, resources that you were getting and basic places you were building. Is okay. It's a big battle game. It's a game where you're gonna control hundred one hundred units. You're gonna zoom out a little bit more than you did in Donov War two, and you're gonna like send giant units against each other. They're there are mechs now Imperial Nights on the marine side, and that is cool if like you want that big battle I think, like Vinny, I thought that's what I wanted, because like that's what the tabletop game is, like big battles between a lot of units. And then like in seeing it being played, I kept thinking like, oh, but there's kind of like some of the character of Donov War two was five space marines against one hundred orcs, and like that's what the story of a space marine is supposed to be. Like, Oh, it's a big, badass space marine. Like they're not swarms, they're they're like elite units. And so it was kind of weird that switched back over. Uh, and I'm curious to see how the how they do it. The the campaign is also different. They're gonna do like a round robin or like like a Raschiman style, like you're moving through different perspectives on the same conflict. So you'll play a level Space Marines, and you'll play levels the Eldar, which are like Space Elves, the Old Eldar, and then the works Space Space ORCS. ORCS is a k oh like in Space Tran. No tierring it as far as I can tell, but who knows. No other factions those are the three and where they spider like tearing. It makes me think of a rec Yeah, they are mean Spider and Latin or something or bug tyrannical actions, tyrannical racks. You. I didn't know you're such a break forty k oh. Yeah, I'm huge on this stuff. Yeah. I saw the same demo and yeah, it looked uh yeah, I saw it a while ago, watch them play it, and it's just yeah, it looked like it looked like an with some drug call ins and orbital strike type stuff, and it's weird, Like yeah, so again I really I have like a love hate relationship with forty K, but this game is the one where I could see them adding the faction I actually like, which are the Tao, which are big Mecca space communists, so of course I like them. Yeah weird? Who would have thought? So I could like if they do that? DLC I know him end up playing a lot of this game. So we saw another Warhammer themed game. We did so wait, not only is there like one new Warhammer game out every week, they're still announcing them. I talked to them about this. Actually, I talked to the dude from this guy feel from from the Done War three team, like, Hey, when you used to make these games, it was you. It was like just Relic was making Warhammer forty K games and now there are a thousand of them? Uh, how does that feel? Like how do you prevent how do you differentiate yourself from them? And like, how do you not just die in this? And you like, listen, we pay attention to our corner. Forty K is a big universe. We've kind of hammered out and showed out our little corner of the universe, so that like it's the tone that we want to go for it isn't necessarily the super grim dark stuff that some of the other games go for. It can be a little bit more light hearted, they can be a little bit less fascist, And like that was the right answer, right, Like that they're gonna focus on making their stuff good and and hope that the people who come into forty K from those other games will like this one and and play theirs too, and not worry about meeting their weird expectations that they've picked up from Warhammer, like chess or whatever. Huh yeah, yeah, Jeff Backlar, you've been out and about around doing it and stuff. What's the what's been the standout stuff to you over the course of the show. Uh. I definitely really dig Horizon. We talked about that earlier. Yeah, zero down, zero down, there's none of that down. Yeah, absolutely, none of the sun is just up all the time. Yeah, it's Alaska. It's all the way up forever. It's actually a thousand years in the future in Alaska. Zero don is it actually is that? No, they're actually they're they're very dodgy about where on Earth it is. It is a thousand years and it is a thousand Earth. You're going to find a statue liberty hunch seven, think it think Yeah, that's my guess. I put it in the book. Okay, all right, someone records this the book in a book, the book, oh, the good Capital book. Yeah, the good book. You're watching this from a hotel room, opened the drawer like where the Gideons stamped it, right right below it Austin, San Francisco, San Francisco, Horizons zero, twenty seventeen. Thank you. I appreciate your hard work. Yeah, it's good stuff. Uh so, yeah, I like I like playing that. I played that today. That was great. Uh And then I saw yesterday an extended demo of Days Gone, and my first question after that demo, and if you remember from the press conference, they did a very sort of cool fun house roundabout in that sawmill or whatever the area was, which was kind of fun, blowing the door, yeah, climbing up a lot of you know that guy, I forget the main character's name, but he deacon, Deacon Saint Deacon Saint John. Sure. Yeah, now that's Sexts something like that. Hurt him being called dee Dee, call him deaker. Ready, all right, looking this up, I don't believe you. No, it's saint something. I'm positive anyway. So my first question was like, hey, how this all, how this all happen? Why are there so many We're not talking about that, so, you know, for men, I like to know, you know the context of how things got to this point? Right? Yeah? Without that, you want to know why there are so many freakers out there because they're not called they call him in that game, they stealing phone calls. It's pH they probably they probably are because the currency in that game is freaker ears? No, is it really? Can I free? All? Right? Look that better be able to find a weenie whistle somewhere? Yeah, exactly? If I like blow twenty six hundred hurts into a PlayStation headset, it just like hack the game. If you get the it's like when you get a subscription to twenty one hundred. Great, okay, yeah it's corelly now so that's that's perfect cool? Yeah, is it's still it's still the little pamphlets. Can I just get like pronounce of frack instead, because that's probably so? Yeah? I said how things get this get this bad? And it was very vague, like, yeah, global pandemic, it's a virus and this happened so they're not zombies, so no, that is specific. They are freakers. Uh, let's just make who would say that. No one would say that. Here's the fucking thing, Well, did suppost apocalypse? You gotta be places, they're freaks. You're never gonna say freakers. That's yeah, exactly. How you know, like as it gets worse and worse to some politicians do like the newspapers going, we got to come up with the name for these things. We'll call them freakers. We'll call them freakers because they're technically on zombies. No, they're gonna call them the zombies because the news is just like the most basic like zombies, don't understand zombies. It's almost less believable that a world exists where zombies isn't a word. Yeah, but how that one thing with Walking Dead where like they call things walking down They never have said it ever. I don't know about the show, but the book never that. Yeah, but also, is this game just walking awad like tone and said, because I thought it was gonna be like a Sons of Anarchy meets Walking Dead? He really lay into the patch thing, and I'm like, yeah, I was with you when I was watching that demo for a second, because because we've been talking about like this game needs a hook, you know, it needs anique zombie thing. And I was looking at it and I was like, you know what redneck zombie game. Yes, I could be into that, and like maybe still MC's battling during all that, Yeah, sign me up. No, Also, that's just the uniform, that's just what's also MC's battling. Yeah, MC's battling like Mark. Yeah, like m c's battling like DJ's alright, five the fifth element. It freaks exactly. Yeah, it's none of that. He just has a he still wears his uh you know, his cut his colors from Okay, all right, nothing what happens to be it happens. He's just he hasn't found any better or protective clothing, sleeveless things. I still got to be me, right, Yeah, these these freakers got to know where my colors are, you know. So anyway, live with style. What's the point I need to look like menacing to any other humans that I might find and let them know that I was in an MC. Yeah after planets fore Finger Rimm. Also, but I'm still the one percenter. Yeah, so all right, yeah that's cool. Uh you know, I wanted to find bean pies and stuff and yeah, no, totally going just going Wikipedia if you don't get just going Wikipedia. I wanted it to be something that maybe it isn't, but uh, you know, I think the hook for that game, they really talk up that whole Hordy. You know. I think they called what did they call like a title, They called it Hordy the title Hordy, like we got Hordy Freak. Yeah, so it can because yeah, so that's yeah title like the flow of Yeah, it does have Love's the thing that definitely stood out in that thing is like, oh, they're kind of falling over each other. It does all looks great, yeah, but it's the part where he keeps stopping and turning around and it's like unloaded. It's like there are more of them, like fucking don't shoot a bullet, just run. He kind of takes his sweet ass time for yourself wave. It feels like the mechanic or like a technology that needs a better game structure around it maybe and maybe it has that or will have that by the time that this thing comes out next year year after. Yeah. Yeah, it's crazy. It seems like, you know, that Bend Studio has been in the dark for a long time working on I assume this or you know who knows that other projects that didn't see the light of the day. But uh, yeah, I guess I you know, you'd think that after all that time, that maybe this would be like a little more fully formed. I guess it is decon Saint John. I looked it up there it is, Sorry, Deacon, Deacon Saint John, Deacon Saint Joe a deacon. Though. Listen, we'll have to find that ranking this MC okay, all right, how they do it? Yeah, okay, i'd buy that. Yeah, yeah, Dan, what had the show go for you? What have you seen? You're not here yesterday. It's all a blur. I came on late because I was busy not getting into a Detroit meeting. I saw that. Yeah, we'll come back around. Yeah. Yeah. So you know how Nintendo said they were only showing Zelda. Huh. I found a secret room and they were showing paper Mario. Really I went to a secret room about that. The director of the game was in there with the translator, and I talked to her for a while, so I don't know. I think she got in with a badge and everything. So all right, she brings down inducting stealth. Fuck the strategy, you're gonna see my Yeah, She's just like, oh yeah, I would love to go to three and walk around and see stuff, and then I could bring a build of the game. Yeah, bidem, we need a room for to leave our stuff. Yeah, we're bringing snacks for the Zelda team. We just wanted to sure that we're like doing right by them or whatever. Break a fuck. Did you like walk down the hallway and someone hinted you a car? I had to go up to stairs and then I sat on a couch until a man. You don't just see like a paper Mario clone running on like the fuse Tomahawk fe or somehow I played the video game I held the game pad, okay, which it's coming out in October. Yeah, yeah that game. Yeah, that was one of the games. Like, leading up to the show, looking at games Nintendo had coming out, You're like, why wouldn't they chow paper Mario? Yeah? Wh was that show Pokemon? Then eventually it's like we're showing Pokemons, Like, of course you're showing Pokemon. Also it's pretty good, So I don't know why they were showing it. Okay, so there are things that don't get to that I didn't quite like. But let me let me break it down. It's basically and I came to this realization halfway through the demo and I brought it up to the director and she had not thought of this. It's reverse Mario Sunshine. Okay, all right, so a good game though, God damn it. So Mario Sunshine. There's an island and there's a guy caused in trouble there by painting everything. You gotta go, and you're cleaning up the paint, right, yeah, paper Mario splash. Shy guys with straws have invaded an island and they're called slurp guys. This is like a political cartoon. Yeah, yeah, So these slurp guys are going around with their straws and all these nice toads live on this island and they put the straws up to the toads and suck the color out of them, so all the color drains from them. What's wrong? Yes? Yes, what the question? This is the lot of that sounds exactly right though. This is the post racial future the Mario universe has been waiting for. Yes, and so at the beginning, Mario is at his house and Princess Peach comes, like two hooded figures come to his door and like a rain do like you open the door and it's weird, looks like more three D than they've ever looked at the paper Mario, but then like paper, Mario is still paper. And so like this rain storm's going on, opened the door, two like hooded figures and then it's peached in a toad and they have this like blank toad that they hand to Mario Mario like unfolded, and it's the outline of a toad, but there's no color, so he's a totally blank. So they send Mario to this island to save all the toads and bring color back to them. And so you go to a fountain early on and you meet a paint can named Huey. So it's no yeah, and so it's says it says paint cane did yeah. But he's a paint can, a trap brown or anything like that. By that, go on, No, go on, Hughey has a he's a paint can. He talks. He's very sassy. He's very sassy. Do you put your face in the paint can and inhaled deeply. No, no, although his handle he saw this demo did you put your face paint canon? Deep? Well, I was waiting for it, went up the secret stairs. Yeah, they give you the paint can take Batman began to get the thing, and then you wake up and you're playing Mario and so yeah, his hands, like his handle is like he's got two hands like this, and he's either like this or like this all the time, and he's talking all the time. He's pretty funny. He's a funny pint can. And so you have two hammers that you can run around with the normal hammer that doesn't take any paint and you can just beat down bushes and trees and stuff, and then a paint hammer. So you're going around and there's all these like blank spot paint that's ineffective. I know, I played Mario paint. I know how paint swaps or the mouse. Yeah, so there's blank spot blank spots all over the environment. And you go around and you hit him with a paint hammer, and like cards and coins and other paint shoots out of it, and you have like paint reserves of like the primary colors, and you gotta fill them up and everything. So the fighting here, here's the thing I'm worried about is Sticker Star on three DS. Yeah, I love paper Mario. I've played all of them, all the Mario Luigi games. Uh. I don't like how Sticker Start didn't have any kind of RPG leveling up or anything like that, and this seems to be like that, but instead of stickers, you're getting cards, okay, and so like let's say I hit a bush, like it might be like three stomp cards and one a hammer card come out or something. And so when you fight, it's not like the typical menu system or anything, and you're not leveling up. There's no experience points or anything, so that's kind of a bummer. You can like paint the cards to make them more powerful, but that drains your paint meters right out of the cards when you play them. Are they gone, Yes, yes, they're gone forever. But then you can like pay money to play like a slot machine thing that will give you cards. But then there's also Thing cards, which I got three Thing cards, and when you play them it gets all hyper realistic except for the paper things. So at one point I played a walk and I had a walk thing card and all of a sudden, I'm on this like realistic walk with flames coming up and everything. And as you hurt enemies, the color drains from them. So that's how you can kind of tell their health meters. Is this is what it sounds like what I talk about, like my weird bullshit. Okay, it's so you have to time like Mario has the like press a like it's got all that stuff like press right beforehand, like the timing specifics. What does the walk do? Does the fire hurt everyone? Uh? I don't remember any attack with the walk I did with the fire extinguisher. So I played the fire extinguisher thing card and I was on top of a burning apartment building. So it's like me and like Morton Cooper Junior or something where on top of burning building. No, all the couple things are bad, they're all in it. And then I played the fire extinguisher thing card and like this photo realistic like three D fire extinguisher comes up. It's like giant like stape up marshmallow man. And if you time the A button when the pin of the fire extinguisher flies out, it like sprays all the ship all over the kop lang and he dies more. It's weird, but I get it. I get it. It's a fortune Cat you can play and then it turns into like a Japanese oil painting like Okami, like a giant fortune Cat comes over the horizon and like it's that sounds cool. It's it's really it looks really good too. It's Paper Mario and HD for the first time where that Nintendo puts noticeably Japanese stuff into Mario. Yeah, this game's really Japanese and really fucking weird. And I and the you know, you see this stuff around the end of a generation when this is like this is the stuff we're making. It's either we translate this stuff or nothing. Yeah. Yeah, So so it was cool. I mean the only thing I didn't necessarily like was like I want to be able to level up. But I kind of wonder if like they're separating. It's like the Mario and Luigi games are the ones with the more traditional, you know, leveling up stuff, and Paper Mari it was more like you know, Super Paper Mario had the platforming shifting things and then stick or started and have a leveling up Like maybe that's the more experimental one and Mario Luigi is the more RPG like one. But yeah, the battle systems still seem good, the timing based stuff, the art style looks awesome, and it just seems really fucking weird in a way that I can really get into. Like you'll walk through forests and there's just shy guys with straws just sucking the color out of trees or like the ground. They're just like like just getting all this color. They're getting color. Yeah, I don't know. The Horizon, Yeah, you checked out of Yeah, just sucked the color out of a bar. No, but your lips around the tailpipe sucked chrome off. Speaking of color though, the sky in that game, Yeah, this is probably one of the cooler technical things I've heard of. The show. For the Sky of Forts the Horizon, they sent two dudes to Australia and they filmed the sky for an entire or summer. Good sky. Second, that's good sky, that sky like Planet Earth's. Yeah, that's a good man. You get there, like, oh, we got to go to Australia for the summer, gonna go live it on the earlier for three months and set up a camera every morning and hit record and came off the balcony, pointed up here. Hit the button and get me another fucking drink. Let's just go out. This thing's gonna point at the fucking sky. It ain't. It'll be okay to make sure a bird doesn't sit on the lighter store like we missed today. But what if that happened though? What if a bird did like get in front of the West was like when it's a totally different game of Yeah, the Horizon Festival gets fucking weird this year. It's like Burning Man. Yeah, it looks it looks really really good. You see it on PC? Yeah, I didn't. I think I I was playing on an Xbox one s that's what it was running on. I didn't play it. They played for me. Yeah, oh okay, they had it. That play on the four kind of stood behind the Xbox versus a D version, and they both look all right. Even even the Xbox version looks fine. You can recruit other players drive guitars, and then they'll drive for you and earn fans, and that dust grow your festival, which I think unlocks here. Grow you're more parts of the map or more things to do, all right, I'm really sure how that works. Also, you can play your own music if you upload your own MP three's two Microsoft one Drive there's a radio station that you just go to and it plays all your stuff. All right, Well that's that's that's a start. Yeah, it's part of the nothing. I guess that just sounds real hard progress. Yeah. Yeah, you know, have a running Windows ten and at one point I just said, like, I'm going to just prevent the one drive service from ever starting ever the second you do it though, it's a slippery slope like you're in. Yeah I did. They did send an emails saying like, hey, that free one drive space that you got, we're taking it away unless you click here, And I'm like, I clicked there, so I don't know, Uh, that's that game looks cool, sounds uh yeah, very much. Want to play another one of those at this point too, to really do it for me the way I thought it would. But this one, yeah, I think it looks great. They said ten Piece thirty on console and then on lockdown on PC. Whatever you got on PC. Yeah, cool, it does look good. There's chinooks. All right, let's talk to Detroit up on what's wrong. I want to like David Cage so bad, like so bad. I want to like David Kge, I can see that if someone gave me infinite power, Yeah, I would make similar decisions. Yeah, what's the problem there was There was a lot in that demo that made me wonder if all right? So I went to see see Detroit. They played through the same thing that they showed at I saw this, Okay, good. Maybe I'm curious if you got the same from the same talking points, which is like, all right, so that the demo is, You're there playing as this guy named Connor, who is an android who hunts rogue androids. It's really hard from he's slipped into Blade Runner. David Cage, Oh he has, he has Connor. He is just give us droid who is uh he's hunting down the rogue androids. But you need to understand is this is not the Fall Future. It is uh No, that are no there are no laser guns, there are no flying cause there are no robots, only incredibly life like human androids. He says, he goes, this is not robot. This is he's different from Blade Runner because you aren't android who hunts down other rogue androids, unlike in Blade Runner. And I'm what fucking n exactly. So in his magical world, there was no intermediate steps from like fucking Siri to life like Android, just like boom it happened. There's no there's no robots that are just like hanging out. There's no like room but two. No, no, there's no other robots. He's just we figured it out. People. Well, he goes, He's like, we didn't want to make anything that doesn't already exist. Now did he give you that? Yeah, he's like, so we just thought, okay, everything that exists is not about technology. He is about human Are you gonna translate in broken French and English? Maybe it's very charming, it's sure, for sure, he is very he is very sincere. He believes it, and like one of these big points is like this is not going to be it's so hard not to do it this He's like, it's this game isn't going to be a game where you're fighting evil robots, Like this isn't going to be Terminators. Isn't like the evil androids are coming for you. In fact, the androids are the ones who are oppressed. And like he said it, like he like no one had ever said that before, and so that to me is like the whole thing, which is like it feels like it feels like they don't understand that there's a lot of genre stuff happening in this game has been happening for thirty years that like Cyberpunks started with maybe the android trying the good guys. He's like, I'm blowing your mind, aren't right. It's like beyond that, it might be a cool procedural story, like I like investigating crime scenes and share games. There's a really cool effect when you like zoomed down. So it doesn't the Batman arkham Night thing. I was like, you can look at a body or at as this ability you have because you are an android, you have the android vision or whatever. But it's not far future. It's near future. This is something androids can do right now totally. And you can like scan using the touch pad over a piece of evidence. On certain pieces, does it feel like a heavy rain. There's the one detective guy and you kind of like that feels like that dude, is he's an android. It turns out spoilers, it's not. And you can kind of find special points to hover over on different body parts and when you found all those points, you kind of get like again, the Arkham Knight DVR, right, you could scrub that actually looks really cool. It's like a really great wire frame effect. And they do this thing where you you can move it around three hundred and sixty degrees and then you have to play this sort of mini game where you detect things that are going on. Right, I was like, oh, look there was a gun. I have to go to the right frame when the gun was in his hand, and then I can. They'll show me there's a gun wound out over there, and then I can go find the gun, which like and those and those little things unlocked details about the situation, which then you can use when you get to like the big event, well like and they weren't really connected. They'd be like, oh, you found the gun. That that's how you know his name's Jerry. You know. There were some weird jumps of logic, and it just it's because the guns are biometrically that it wasn't it. There were some jumps of logic there. I'm not an android though, so I don't know. We don't know yet and yet or am I we don't know yet? So it felt like it wasn't very genre aware, which which frustrates me as someone who likes that stuff a lot. That stuff, like his stuff is always just it feels like you read some Wikipedia articles. It's always just a little bit. It's like you know what he's going for, but it's just it's like, here's here's this very established like genre or or theme that he's going for, and it's just kind of like like looking at it. Yes, that's what I like. I love Beyond Two Souls that that game is. Like, there are some weird parts of that game that don't work, but like after playing that and Heavy Rain, I'm off, I'm gonna play this. I like almost human. I keep saying this, but like it's my, my my, it's a low bar for me to get like attention to androids, and I have a lot of what really should be in this game, a lot of leeway for his games, right, like I tolerate for me, I'm curious if I'll still feel the same why in a world post until Dawn, which is a game that is very aware of it, which understands the rules of it and understands that the player knows the rules of it and plays with that stuff. And landing in the in the gameplay parts right and feels at least like there is real divergence in the way that the story can go is here it didn't really again it who knows, We don't know what the big structure of the game is. But it's like, oh, the three ways this can go is Connor dies, the little girl dies, the Daniel, the robot dies, the android. Sorry no robots dies, or some combination thereof, and like it isn't really clear if that matters in any larger scheme. Like he said it's like heavy rain and that there's no game over screen if someone dies or something that size is right, it's just because the the androids are they just have blue circles on their tends. They're not they're very human. There's and they're just like us. They bleed blue. They just bleed blue. And they why do they have meat, Like when that guy gets popped at the end, he's got like blue meat coming. No, it should just be wires in circuitry. Yeah, I don't want Why do you have to put for me? It would be so much better if there wasn't the hyperbole around so much of it, because like there was a bit where he's just like, you know, we're all about player choice. You could you could interact with the objects in the crime scene, or you couldn't. Like no, if you don't know, you lose, you lose. You lose. Every time it says chance of winning now because I haven't looked at anything. Yeah, like which I thought that was Actually I enjoyed seeing that fluctuate. Yeah, it's neat. That was says like, oh, this is your percentage of things going bad good. But when you're like at eleven percent, you're like, just like you'll just like look at a hair brush. The dad's name was Michael. I'm like, oh, like, shoot, thirty percent extra. Do you get more like dialogue options in that case? Yes, yeah, fact unlock things. Yeah, you can see when you go through it the first time what options are locked off for you, which I kind of hate. I don't want to know what could have been right, Yeah, these other potential choices, yeah yeah, but maybe they'll change that. This is obviously an early build. I want it to be cool, Like I'm gonna play that stupid game, yeah, and I'm gonna probably enjoy bits of it because I always do. I always think there's always a spot where you're like, that's that worked down. But and then yeah, and then other things happened, Brad, I know you saw see if thieves. Yeah, something we can do quickly or should we save it for the next week. We gotta, we gotta get. There's not a ton to say that. We played the show four demo, which is just a time fifteen minute thing. It was basically just a sandbox that let you see how the ship combat worked. So me, Dan Vinny and Alex Crude a pirate vessel, play songs together. Yes, what's the name of your ship? Here's the mermaids said on the sign by our amulet or something I don't know. Yeah, yeah, so you know, crewing the ship was like I gotta unfurl the sails. You have to to turn the sails to catch whichever direction the wind is going. Uh, you need somebody up on the crow's nest, like Alex was up there and like sure enough spotted some other ships off in the distance. All ships in the game are player control. So all ships, all ships, right, No, so no n PC ships. Anytime you see a ship like they were like, we want you to think, all right, there's other people it's time to go fuck them up. Huh Is it always time to go fuck them up? We're kind of yeah, like is there other stuff on lands? So that's the thing. They are not really showing or talking about any of that stuff except I took it, took a meeting with them, and they kind of hinted at things like that. There's there's they're full on quests, like there is loot there, there is character progression. Yeah, It's it's kind of funny when things go wrong because like we had five people. Yeah, it's like a whole ordeal to like raising lower the anchor and the sales and all this stuff. So so like there's a big wheel to lower to raise the anchor, but like the more people that are on it, the faster it goes. And there are even things you can do, like, uh, we were in just a ship versus ship battle, which is super slow and methodical. You know, it's ships like turning incredibly slowly, trying to face each other, so you can point your cannons in the right direction and stuff. But you can do things like uh, like if you're if you're going around a ship and you want to cut a hard turn, you can drop the anchor and do an anchor turn. Okay, but basically somebody will run over there and drop the anchor and it'll make the ship cut like a super hard turn. But then everybody needs to like drop what they're doing and run over there and raise the anchor as fast as they can after that so you can start moving again. Yeah, I think of like levers in a dangerous space time where there's like a ship stuff, or even that weird basketball thing we later VPF recently. It's got it's got an element of that to it, for sure, but it sounds cool. It sounds really cool potential. I tried to ask them. They just kept using the word like shared experience or shared world, and I tried to ask, like, okay, what is that an eight player instance is an MMO? What is it? Right? And they made it sound like it seamlessly matches people in and out of your world and just as you sail or. It just seems like, yeah, you would sail around it and it'll just feed you other player boats until you decide you want to go do something. That's exactly what it sounded like. But and it's not just the ship combat. No, no, no, it seems like there's tons of land masses to go to. They just didn't show where get into any of that stuff really, but it sounds like full on like what you think a multiplayer a game like that is elements, elements destiny, elements of like you know, Capital Ship type right. Also felt very much like a rare game. Yes, lots of personality, super super polerful, so a lot of a lot of personality. It seems super awesome. All right, Well, thanks y'all for joining me here. We're gonna send it off into a break so we can load up some guests and get this final night of whatever this is rolling. So stay tuned and we will be back soon. Hey, Hi, welcome, I'm Jeff Gersman. Welcome into Giant Bombs post e three, twenty sixteen coverage. The show is officially over, and what a show it's been. Now I'm joined by a couch full of guests. We're going to talk about video games and the wonderful world of them around them and so on. I'm joined by Steve from Fulbright. Hi. Hi there, I'm Steve. Hey Steve, thank you so much. That's going. It's wonderful. I feel wonderful. Great Heather of Finji. Finji, am I pronouncing that right? Yes? Great, thanks so much for coming. Yeah, and Jocelyn also of Finji, Hi, great, thanks for coming. Yeah. I feel the fingy ights on the cash, but I'm comfortable with that. I think, you know, in a way, you know, we're the non fingy ights, both of us. I'll side with you on this, a bit of an alliance. Yeah, unless there unless you have any openings, in which case we're taking applications. I have no discernible skills whatsoever. So they have a very calming speaking voice, which is wonderful sometimes. Do you think that could help in game development? What a calm team? Do you need a calming parse the you know, now, I forget you're working on a product. Product, It's product. Let's talk about it like it's get down to brass tacks here. You're pleasing shareholders and creating value with the overland. Is that that? Yes? And has that been are you showing it here at the show previously? Over the last few days it was in the indicade section, and and how how did that? How did that go? Did you kind of like stationed at the booth kind of watching people play, or did you get to get around, and you stayed at the booth. Yeah, talk to people about the game and then made around. Now, talk a little bit about Overland, and I've heard, uh, I've heard good things about Overland, But what can you tell me a little bit about the game itself? Others really good at this take it away, So okay, great, Sorry, I had had to memorize like the pitch, and I've kind of like would wake up in the middle of the night and just like say it kind of like sweating out. Yeah. So Overland is a survival strategy game, and uh, it's turn based and you're leading a group of like survivors across the post apocalyptic United States and you're trying to get from the East coast the West coast and fight a lot of monsters along the way or not organ trail meets fighting monsters or not yet coast. Why the why the destination? I think it has some nice here. Yeah it is, it's lovely not right here? Well, yeah, I would agree, that's their fault. Really, Oh, I answered your question really well while you weren't paying attention. Excellent started on him. This is his fault he was talking about he started talking. So we're blaming that. Yeah, no, we are. We are blaming uh Steve Ganner, you're working on Tacoma two, apparently feeling that Tacoma one was not good enough and throwing it away. We just decided to not release it. And it's a great game that no one's ever gonna play. Do that thing like lock it away for seventy five years and then Takoma one is now here. It'll it'll be a real treat. Oh yeah, once it's matured, not yet aged and a digital locker, digital locker, yeah, the run of the place, isn't that what you buy? And like like Counterstrike? Yeah, I need keys from my digital lock Yeah. They they give you the lockers and you get weaponskins out. That's what we were that's what we were working on. We need to add a lot of weapon skins. We needed gold keys, silver keys, and we needed platinum keys. Yeah. I mean you have to monetize, right if you're not monetor g oh keys. Yeah, they're the best ones and they're platinum. You can't really happen. You get like a model Denim key or something like that if you want to very overland though Denim kem. Yeah, that's true. Denim keyl talking about denim keys. Yeah, that's innovative. Yeah, I'm in love with this idea. Yeah, right, is all about innovation. Okay, Yeah, well I'm just gonna take that. I'm gonna put it in our game. Smart You're not about innovation. You're not going like great, other people say good ideas, and then I'm like, we'll do that. Yeah. So, so prior to the show, uh, you know, we were getting meeting requests from Microsoft about stuff, and there was Tacoma. It's a whole new It's there's some stuff going on with Tacoma. And I think we were like, what what's going on with and and Brad and I looked at each other for a while, and I think it's got to be VR. Oh no, because because that's got to be the change. What because it's the games like close to finish the first person thing, Like, it's probably just VR, right, it's probably just VR. And so but it sounds like that you have decided to rip most of the game apart. We did push it back and insert a bunch of new things into it. Our ideas weren't good enough the first time, so we had to work on that. Great. I think uh, your friend, uh of Brad, Brad, Yeah, Brad, can you give it a look? Yeah, we've we've really just been focusing on how we're telling the story in the game, because like Gone Home, to call him, as a story game, it's about discovering the story. But the difference is that you know, it takes place in the future, it takes place in this high tech environment, and we really just at the point we showed it last year, we didn't feel like we were fulfilling kind of potential of how that would be a really unique experience for players to interact with. And so the stuff we've been pushing on in the intervening time is really focusing on the augmented reality system on the station and how you can interact directly with the events of the story that are being replayed and kind of have control over that whole timeline, not just a passive observer, because I think that you know, and Gone Home, everything was driven by your interaction, everything you wanted to find, you know, you were pulling everything out of the environment, and there was just too much in Tacoma that was more about waiting and watching and being passive and so figuring out how that technology could enable us to have you be involved in the storytelling was what we really wanted to pull across. And I'm maintaining this calming, soothing voice through my entire pitch because I want you to feel wonderful. Who that that guy Adam wonderful? Not just I'm everyone at home watching on your PC, Mac, Linux box, watching on your steam Box on your couch. I just want some people watch on telephones. I know, okay, if you're on the phone, you can suck yourself. But aside from that, I think that that's that's a good call. That's a good call. So being a part of a Indicaid booth, is that a process of like do you pitch to Indicade, like, hey, we want to spot and that how how does how does Indicaid work with the you know, because it's like they get the Indicaid, get the booth space, and and how's that that process go. I think we got into the showcase last October, okay, and then I think we just rolls in let us in. That sounds complex. That's not my area. It is complex. I've played a little bit of your game when it was very soon after it was released, and are you when is the game Spill be coming out? Do you guys know yet? It's in alpha right now, but it's out and people can go get it. But yeah, oh wait, well we were prepped not to see. Are you guys being on brand right now? Are we being tricked to saying the release date? Oh? I don't think so, You're not being successfully tricked. Apparently it's coming out soon. You've been doing like a first access sort of program, so like we've been really seeing like a limited number of keys through itch and yeah, and uh, they've been really great to work with. Yeah, and like people can just sign up for the newsletter and uh and find out more about like when come is that the thing? Is that like a kind of thing where you can like apply to get added early or is it just open for everyone? Uh? So, like if you, uh, if you're part of the newsletter, you'll get like an email and be like, hey, we're gonna like releasee a couple of keys or whatever if you want to grab a copy. And uh, Yeah, it's been really nice. Like there's there's a forum that they can join also and kind of give us feedback and stuff, and it's been it's been really nice. Nice. Yeah, that's like that kind of open game development really just or you know, kind of getting in front of people and getting that feedback. Yeah, it has a lot of it has most of it been useful. Are you getting things that you look at and go like, yeah, we know the game's just not quite there yet, but we know how we're solving this in a later build a little both. Yeah, it kind of helps like focus maybe what you need to work on next, Like we know a lot of the things that but it's selful to know what people are having the most trouble with. Yeah, or like if you've been playing it for so long, you're like so used to like this one like button being wherever you know, and they're like, wait, that's really weird. You know, go right, step back. It's like, you know, it makes sense to change this button for the wider audience that'll eventually be able to play it. So at some point you're like, no, it's like we understand why you're saying that, but you're wrong. I guess as creators, at some point you need to kind of like put your foot down and I'm like, this is this is the thing we want to make right. Yeah. Sometimes yeah, they're wait, never mind. Our community is wonderful. There are a few suggestions where I'm like, I like where this is going. I like where this is going. What if it was like those people who are watching on phones, Like that's the thing? Yeah, exactly, you know, like having having seen you know, screenshots have to come up on the point. My thoughts were like, again, it sounds like you're on top of it though, weapons, weapons, skins, cases, keys, denim keys keys. Yeah, I think that's that's got It's the above platinum. It's kind of like in between, mom, No, it's gold, silver, platinum, denim stonewashed, denim ascid washed them whoa Yeah. And then you can get a ripped variant, which ensures that you'll get like a rare out of it. Yeah. On top of that, which I mean, we can get it guaranteed rare. Why wouldn't you get the ripped are exactly? Yeah, I love to guarantee it rare. So will which which street fighter game will Tacoma have in it? Since it's set in the future, Like, which move list are you gonna find it to be? So? The story kind of centers around Chunley's great granddaughter Okay and her quest to discover a family's history, and we're really focusing a lot on that aspect of working with Capcom directly. Great. Yeah, they're really on top of Street Fighter these days, so you know, obviously tweet at Capcom, tell them you're excited that we're working together officially, Yeah, inter official capacity. But aside from that, you know, it's really just kind of walking around with space station looking at Hologram people. Yeah, and I guess like now jogging and shuttling the Hologram people videos and a space station with the VCR and what do you get Tacoma two. I like to follow up, you're saving the Team Center the Space Team Center. Didn't figure it out, It's it's a Space Team Center. M I'm making a new game now is about the Space Team Center. It's called Tacoma but with a K well, and you know what, Yeah, not even going to try to bring any kind of season this this kind of legal action, because I want you to be able to bring that experience to the people, even the people on phones. It's going to be a phone game, beautiful. That's what they deserve exactly. Yeah, it is their bootleg to come. That's that's how phone games work isn't it. You just kind of like you download an engine Unity something like that, push a few buttons, and then just name it automatic Grand Theft colon five cities. So when anyone searches Grand Theft Auto five, your thing turns up. Yeah, and then I mean just the money starts roll. Yeah. What is it about if not turning a profit? Frankly exactly. No. Yeah, that's that's ice cold, ice cold business. That's what we're taking people. Yeah, taking their money. You're not giving it back. Scamsters Yeah, yeah, giant pond dot com, Giant pond dot com, slash scamsters. Uh is is where we're at here doing our business? What would that go to? That would be a four or four right now? But there actually is. There's up some back end tools I could use to make that go just about anywhere on the side. I look forward to that. Redirecting to your wiki page for Tacoma too. No, do not poison the wiki with false information. But if you want to add a search alias for Tacoma anyway. Did you get a chance to get around the You mentioned getting around the show floor a little bit. Was there anything else out there that kind of caught your eye? We just played with Toriko to Riko. Yeah yeah, oh the big the Big Boy. Yeah yeah. It's a big like what was like twenty five feet high? I don't know, I'm bad at numbers like measurement stuff like thirty feet tall screen y Yeah. Yeah. And so how reactive was that thing? It's just there they they show if you haven't seen it, they showed it off of the PlayStation Experiences year. It's a big screen with the cat dog they talked about. So what I wanted was that just somebody behind the scenes kind of puppeteering? Yeah, I guess that's my question. Do you get the impression that it's like cameras that are ye? Was there someone just back there, you know, controlling it? Or was it like an ai I think it was. Yeah, it was just like I think it had like a motion sensors or something like top and then you just like walk around and then they follow you and then you can get a barrel and like, it likes barrels. It wants to eat them. Last I saw it in two thousand and nine and in my youth, and then it it and it rates because it wants it because I touched it with it. Oh, I see, okay, okay, you can pet it. Wow that yeah, yeah, that's really good. That thing I have not stopped to me. I did not stop to mess with that thing because it, honestly, it frightens me. That's this giant that this giant batcat burden dog thing, and it's just whatever in the world could be terrifying about a giant batcat bird creature. You know, it's big, you know, I got I would get stepped on. Perhaps, you know, it might pick me up in his mouth and fly away and drop me from a height. Does it fly fly? Yeah? Probably? I think maybe it tries to. Maybe it's like maybe the tiny wings can't really think. Maybe it tries like a little bit of hover and there's like, no, can't. I would just say that it is a gentle giant sure, all right, So I mean there's nothing to be afraid of. All right? Well, should I find myself in another convention where it's there, and since the game is probably gonna get pushed back nine more times anyway, they'll have plenty of time to market it, then perhaps I will give it a shot. I will at tempt to overcome my fears it might vibrate a barrel near you terrify, So I would want to be Barrels are to be shot and blown up in video games as far there's a cause exposure, not to cause emotions. I wouldn't want to put it near a thing I care about. Do you like that, Adam? Thanks for watching everything. Yeah, it's this whole sets just for Adam. These cameras aren't even an audience. Yeah, I mean I can see the images here, but they're not going on to the online, onto the inter You can see images anyone that's logged on. They have no idea what going like. I don't even know what's here. It's a black screen, but they're looking at it anyway for some reason. Yeah, and it's wonderful. I've been there. I've been there. So with the re engineering, reimagining, reimagine, thank you, oh sorry, the reimagineering of Tacoma. With that has come obviously that that work would take some time, and it has changed your release window Spring twenty seventeen. Yeah, Xbox one PC. Yeah, you know, we uh, we look at what we had and we just realized that we had to figure out how to make that work, you know what I mean. Yeah, at some point you can either choose to release the thing that you're not sure if it's all the way there, or kind of figure out how to give it the time it needs. It's like making a beautiful pastry or cake. Okay, yeah, if it was undercooked, gets a little doughey. Yeah it's a little doughey. You didn't want something too doughey to come on one a bit too doughey A little bit. Yeah, No, I'm working on No. No, I think you're perfectly wonderful. Spelt the face you just made made my microphone fall off in my ear. That happens every night. Yeah, you know, we had to push it back a little bit, but it's it's at that point where we have found a really strong path. You need to work the rest of the way through it, but at a point where you don't really have a strong, kind of complete confidence in what you're trying to push through. I don't think any team can really look at that and say, we can do our best, we can make this into something that we all believe in unless you have that really strong direction. And how did that so? Was that something that like, was everyone on the team just having these thoughts in the back of their head, and finally someone spoke up and everyone just went, you're totally right, we need to change everything, or how it was your friend it was sorry, Brad, Brad, Brad, Oh he played instead it was Garbae. He saw it last year and he told us it was trash. No, it's not. You need to hear that. Yeah. It really wasn't any kind of specific reaction that we had. There was this overall feeling of I think people it's all what we were doing. They gave us the benefit of the doubt. They said this looks cool, we'd love to play this thing. But but from kind of more of the specifics of how they how they reacted what they were seeing, I think that we could tell that there was something more that that we knew we were trying to get at that wasn't actually being shown to people at that time. You know, because even if people play what you have and they're like, oh, this seems cool, I'm looking forward to how this turns out, if the stuff that they talk about specifically, you're like, oh, there's no more of that in here, right, I mean, to be honest, there was a lot of stuff where people were like, oh, yeah, this part, you know, that doesn't seem like it seem like you guys are going to kind of continue developing that and I'm sure that'll be cool. And we were kind of like, no, that was what we had, that was what we were going to do. That was what we were going to do. But the way that you frame that made us think, Okay, you see some potential in this. You're the thing you're envisioning is where we do need to get it too. And I think now we're really you know, when when you're making kind of a follow up to something that a lot of people take notice of, the biggest thing is you have to really figure out how to force yourself to do something that's outside of your comfort zone. Sure, and we had tried to get there, and I think we made some good steps to get ourselves in the right direction. And then it was through that process that we really discovered like, Okay, but if we stop here, we're not really gonna go all the way to new territory that's really worth worth playing, you know. So we're excited about where we're at now. And uh yeah, it'll be gosh less than a year now before people will be playing Tacoma two. Great. I'd highly recommend you to. Technically it's not called to coma. But but what my friend Jeff of giant bomb dot com, he thinks of it as Tacoma two. And I don't want to make him uncomfortable on this very calming stream. I just want to refer to it in the way that he thinks. Okay, what if it was instead Tacoma two point zero, like a software kind of digital I'm like, you know, one of the one of these, one of these, I'm gonna say no to that. If I'm just gonna say no, Okay, fine, you just go ahead and call it Tacoma. And when people go like, oh, this is the game that I play, and you have to go no, actually you have fun, like, you know, separating that from people. If people you're solving your messaging, bro Overland has no such issues, I can see how people it's just getting it done. If if if Tacoma came out and it was the first title and it didn't have the number two after it, I could see people of being confused. I understand what We're going to take that risk. We're going to take that risk and just not put the number on it, even though it's what people look right, okay, well, I'm gonna go back to the drawing board on this whole name thing here. I've got another idea that I think would probably solve both of our problems. Tacoma Colon Gone Home too. What do you think? That's very very good? That's very good. Leverage the IP Yeah, that's actually what we'll call the DLC. Yes, the leverage, the leverage, the IP DLC. Yeah, yeah, the Tacoma DLC, the official sequel to Gone Home. Right, we aren't going to be doing that either. Well, all right, this has been a failure. Yeah, I'm just trying to help, you know, I'm just trying to help. We can use all help we can get. Yeah, I not believe me from well, I'm not even going to attempt to help Overland. It seems like you are on the right track with Overland. You don't need my I was going to say expertise. But we're doing wonderfully great. That's that's fantastically here. I mean, just this is something that I just thought of on my own. Have you thought of putting a number after it at all? Like a two? Or what was their sequel going to be called? Oh? I don't remember Underland Oversea, Underland Oversea, I don't remember. That's a very catchy title, and I would buy it, harpy that that absolutely works when you know it's where can people go to sign it for the newsletter? And do you anticipate their beaking keys available in the near future for people who do sign up, Oh, you can just go to our website at Overland dash game dot com and there will be more keys in the future. All right, so awesome, go sign up. Well, I want to thank you all for coming out. It's been a wonderful time here. We have literally solved none of the world's problems despite my best efforts. But I feel like we all do feel very centered right now, which is a bit of a victory of its own. So and honestly, I you know, not to be selfish, but I need a good centering here before we get off. Like that room just gets louder and louder and they get there. There's a rabbling happening out the of the world. Yeah, in here, it's safe, but we're gonna throw open that door and I don't know what's going to come through next. I just have to I just sit here until midnight and then at some point they'll let me go home, And they said I could go home if I just did this one more time. We all feel for you, Jeff. We feel, but we know you can make it through. I want to thank you all helping me this tough time. It was our pleasure. Thank you for having it. Thank you very much. We'll be back soon with more guests. I'm home. Two is in stores now. Hello, welcome back. Giant Bombs E three twenty sixteen. Post show E three coverage of E three continues, and we've got a just as many people as we could get on the couch behind the couch all this other stuff. Let's let's run it down right here for you now in a serious fashion. From right games, we've got so high. Are you doing down there? Good? I'm very good. How are you good? Thanks for coming, Thanks for having me. Yeah, we got Nick. Nick you're working on Slime Rancher, and I'm telling you that you're working on which I played in early access while back, and then thank you so much. Cool ass game. Tom. You're working on Strafe. Yes, you're wearing sunglasses. Yes, all right, Just I'm just dealing in facts right now. Kay, Pat from Riot, how's it going back there, I'm chilling man awesome. Also from also of Giant Bomb Freelance fam of course, yes, naturally dual a double threat. Yeah, absolutely are and again to deal in facts, you are not wearing a hat currently, Tim Terry is here, who you may know from Tim Terry's Resident Evil seven which announced also Tim Terry Street Fighter five. Oh yeah, and Tim Terry's the speed Rumbler. That's that's right. Yeah, Ghouls and Ghosts and ghost and Goblins. Okay, yeah, is that a crossover game Guls and Ghosts meets Ghosts and Goblins. No, I always said cross. I would have said cross. Sorry sorry, okay, yeah, no I forgot. That's totally on brand and I am all the way off brand. Okay, Tom Strafe, how's that been going to the show. You're at the Devolver you you've been at the Devolver cookout street party. What is the trailer park? Trailer legitimately trailer park with a bunch of air streams. You know they have barbecue. DJ's free beer and barbecue DJ. Whoa, but yeah, it's it's been good. I hadn't been expecting to show off anything. I'm formally and then I guess that changed very fast. I've been stuck in a trailer for three days just giving demos. So it's at least like a nice trailer. No, no, like pretty good. It's pretty coright cool, and so Strafe. I saw a stray back in Santa Monica a few weeks ago. That was an apologize for that. Yeah, no, that's I just it. It was the same week that Doom came out. Yeah, so we talked about Doom the whole time instead of talking about the game, which is probably not good for marketing. But Doom was fucking great. It's so good. It's so good. You're working on Stram is so good. Yeah, you know, we have persistent blood. It's a rogue like but you played Doom. Yeah, no, I've I've played Doom. Yeah yeah, so uh so Strafe. You know, the the imagery around Strafe kind of tapping into this this nineties aesthetic and stuff like that. Yes, I mean the story how we started as very simple. It's just in in twenty fourteen, I was playing Quake again like you do every couple of years, and you go, shit, this is still really good. So at the time I just Platinum Splunky. So there was this feeling of I know too much about Quake still. I know where the monster calls it hard, where the enemies are. What if someone like mixed the two you know, like now Kiss and then had like that core Quake gameplay or that you know, classic style gameplay right in a game that was like a single player, but infinitely we're playable. So we just kind of went crazy with that with like the persistent core, the speed, and like the ship ton of secrets. Yeah, awesome things I like about those little games. Awesome. Uh. Nick slime Rancher is just announced for the Xbox One. Yes, that's correct. We're going to be in their game preview program. Okay, so it'll it'll kind of be out ahead of like well, yeah, I gotta say ahead of release, but I guess that that technically is a release. Even if it's not a release release, it's still a release, yeah for sure. Yeah. And how's that been been going? Well? I don't know if you saw like the Beacon of Joy coming from the Xbox area, but that was us credit for that. Yeah. No, people people are are giggling and smiling while they play it, and that's that's amazing. Yeah, we were always floored that people get it as quickly as they do because it's a really bizarre game. But maybe, you know, maybe all they need to see is the smiling slimes and then they're they're totally good. It's a feel good game. But at the same time there's these there's smiling slimes, and you're like, these guys are just the best I and now I'm going to suck them up into this vacuum cleaner against their will. Yeah. Yeah, well, you know you have to the the the corrals that you keep them in always have the earth underneath them, so they can always leave if they ever really needed to. Yeah, so humane, yeah yeah, and then they can get back at you. Of course, there's like the the Gremlin's esque, you know, the cuteness hides a sort of dark side and they can turn into something terrible. And when I when I when I spend some time with it, I guess a few months ago. Now just eventually, you know, I didn't have a lid on that thing. And eventually you just get enough of them in there, they just start hopping out. You know. You get out in the field, you're you're doing some business, you're you're coming back, and all of a sudden, there's just slimes everywhere, and you're like this, my ranch has gone bad. Yeah, everything in the game with regard to caring for the slimes and everything is deliberately not full proof, and so everything if you just let it sit for long enough to work together and they'll get out. And so even if you have like really high walls and put the net over the top, you got a music box to suthe them. You fed them their breakfast. If you're out for too long, you'll come back and it'll look like World War Z where they're like climbing over the top and everything. Yeah, it's great. Yeah, that's awesome. So you're with Riot. Riot not really a big E three kind of company right now, not really, yeah, or at all. Yeah, but you know obviously you know, still kind of hanging out around the show, right What have you been up to these few days? Did you come all three days just like swing out for a day or are you just like, we're not even coming at all, I'm just hanging out. I personally was not coming at all. I just kind of watched the conferences Sunday and Monday and talked a lot of shit as to do and yeah, and I just came to hang out. You should start an internet business. Yeah, if that's it, that's what you're up to get through the internet. It's works. Just get yourselves of chalkboard, like legally. I think that's all you have to do. And uh, Patrick Miller back here obviously, you know kind of also with with Riot recently into the Riot well recent returnee, okay, recent returney up y I did. I was with Riot. I left to work for a small startup working on doing some indie fighting games called Radiant that just got acquired a couple of months ago. Yeah, I'm back. I got to wear my TEAMO hat during the new higher orientation again is very lovely as as someone who has left a company and then found myself back at that company through acquisition. Yeah, they're going through that orientation and again is real weird, right, He's like, no, I know all this, Yeah, all the answers already and the things you change are now worth always fun, always fun. Did you head out of the show? I know you quite the fighting game player, right, And so I wanted to check out the new King of Fighters. Switch Atlas was showing off at their booth. I saw a little bit of some tech and seven stuff. Capcom was showing a bookie for Street Fighter five, like, it does my heart good to see fighting games on E three because they've been like it wasn't they weren't always there, you know, yeah, definitely not. You know, there was that there was that era where Capcom Tim Terry's Capcom would have thank you, like somehow have like nine fighting games, and it would just be like, here are like three different ways we've packaged up dark Stockers this week for the PlayStation one, right, and all this other stuff, and you would see all that stuff. But it is kind of a trip though, because like anyone who digs super deep into fighting games is still going through and playing some of those old games, right, because these are games that you can devote yourself to for thousands of hours. We haven't found a lot of the neat stuff and some of the more obscure games. So it's got we got like history to work through. Now. I've been like slowly getting back into Mark of the Wolves. Okay, nice, I was just playing that the other day. Yeah, it's it's just so good. Yeah, it's just so good. It's beautiful. Uh yeah, and and but not in a I've been getting back into it, but not in like any kind of serious way, because I've just been kind of playing it alone and go like, I need we need to I need to bring this cart in and we need to start playing more Mark of the Wolves around this office because we're gonna We're gonna do that. So so he's money matching all of y'all after this strain, and I'll be coaching. Ok okay, great, yeah, all right, No displayed two is on PS four now, Yeah, yeah, that one's great. Yeah. I picked just a beautiful art like some of those, especially like the latter day in the O Geo games. Just man, wow, I could just look at the background like as gifts, like just sitting there with the trees. I went, I went through. I went in a real dark uh well not not dark whatever. I've got this great, amazing collection, but it was dark from a monetary perspective of you know, we were traveling to Japan a lot to cover TGS and other game shows and stuff like that, and I would just come back with as many Neo Geo carts as I could find. Slash Afford and yeah, I ended up with you know, Last Played, Last Play to all that other stuff and awesome, and then realized like all of a sudden one day woke up and like, oh, there's like no one who works here who actually cares enough about fighting games to play any of these. Uh no, no they weren't. Yeah, so you could buy the carts over there. Uh and then the actually the the region was determined by the console, so if the Japanese carts would play in English or you know, people have biosmodifications and stuff like I want to if you want to get deep down dark into it, totally miss THEO. Yeah, it's a it's a beautiful, beautiful machine. Speaking of beautiful machines, Tim Turry me the machine in this case. Yeah, you have been have you just been like in the capcom booth, Yeah, showing are you attached to like Resident Evil specifically? Yeah, yeah, that's that's right. Okay, it was in a creepy mansion the entire entire TV three so yeah, and showing off are you seven? And shown off in VR? How's that been been going? It's been super cool. It did a lot of people like really freak out or is people kind of handling it like because you never know, like a game show like this, you know, people see a lot of games. I think I played some VR stuff earlier in the show, and I think people were expecting me to like have never done VR before. I know, I know, I know, I'm good. Yeah, it's like a good mix, Like it sells the hid house thing that the R seven boothad, which is just like people would just be screaming randomly sometimes, which is a good thing. Yeah, that's that's basically what we're going for. But yeah, it's like all sorts of familiarities with VR, Like some people don't like, oh yeah, I know how to put the PSVR headset on, like I'm good to go. Some people just want you to do it for them. But if it was someone's first time in VR, that was a pretty punishing experience for them, like just dealing with like whatever the sense of presence in there. But yeah, it was a super super cool experience, like my first E three on like the publisher developer side too, right, yeah, like that, And what's the transition out of the do you feel is this is this easier, harder, like just super different. Yeah, but awesome because like I mean every time we talked, you know, I was at a Game Informer and like on birth side. It's yeah, there, there it is. Yeah, it's just like I don't know here I am like showing uh, Paul ws Anderson the game. It's just like, oh, well, this is the director of the Resume movies. I hope he likes it and he did or we had good you know, Like then suddenly it's just Neil Druckman and he's playing the game and he's a big resumeal fan. And then I'd suddenly be in a meeting with like retail buyers and trying to like suddenly do a very top level explanation of the game. And it's fun. I was like really curious to see if from that transition if it would be more like, all right, well how much are we pulling on knowledge from Game Informer and stuff? But it's actually like actually a lot of this reminds me of waiting tables for like eight years and just trying to sell people on like, hey, this is this is what you need to know. The specials of the day. Yeah yeah, Jill Valentine, there's green herbs, walk about soup. Yeah yeah. Fun. Chinese is also very good. Yeah, faster of unlocking that's right. Yeahs again, those are the three things that I know about Residevial. You've just heard all of what we're sold. Veronica Okay, code Colon, Ron Colon, Resident Evil, code Colan Brown, Umbrella, Core Yes, c O RPS. You got it, join the Core yeah, corps because it's a horror game, right, Well, yeah, it's a fun little play. That's really you can use that. Just write that down. Yeah, there was there's in Japan. Yeah, yeah, and like I never got a chance to go to one. But the thing that was amazing hearing about it was that it would be like nineties them, so they'd be like nineties music from you know, the first one came out ninety six. Yeah, and then but it was set in ninety eight, so they're like period specific songs like spice girls and stuff. Yeah. And then there'd be a tyrant in the middle of this cafe, and every once in a while it'd be like, you know, emergency, emergency, the self destruct systems activated. I don't I don't know with the tyrant, just like, oh, tell me what you want, what you really like, just like performed. So you said you've been there, you you experienced, I've performed as tyrant. Yeah, and then the the you know, the servers would run to the wall and pull off a gun and like you know, like have to like fight this fake tyrant things. No No, I remember I went to when I finally got to Japan, like the first time it had been closed down. But now there's some never reopened specifically for the twentieth anniversary. This year's twentieth anniversary. So there's like, uh, like a cerberus like like curry, uh like tenkatsu curry that's like shaped like a like a zombie dog's head, you know. You know they do that sometimes that where they have like almost like a pop up shop. They have like these little cafes that'll be open for two months while the game is released. Like when one of the Monster Hunter games came out. I remember they had like the big meat from Monster Hunter that you like, yeah, well done, sake sure, and so so it was like a plastic bone though, like a plastic dog bone with like meat pressed meat like wrapped around it. So it looked the part, but then you were like what is I think people maybe just like took pictures with it and then like left it. That sounds that sounds like that sounds like the sort of thing you would encounter in Japan plastic bones. We thought, I don't know, we're putting eggs on hamburgers. Over here at McDonald's. You get a baking potato pie for them. Be all right, I shouldn't have said it. Now I could really go for a baking potato pie. One more reason to get back to Kyah. It's been too long. Let's go. It's been too long since I've been there. I'm so bummed that I've missed the Resideval cafe restaurant. Let's open this. Let's go to the restaurant business. I think that's a great idea. Uncensed resideval restaurant. Sure, un licensed, getting better, unlicensed Timtorees Hill, we'll make a selling Hill competitor. You know, we'll fog it out. Okay, you know you have to. You have to well pyramid head as a server, you know, like dragging food to people already. All right, you know, I've got a better idea. I don't want to get Capcom involved in this sort of thing. They're just gonna come and try to get cut in. So p pizza time. There you go. It's just gonna be a long corridor and at the end of it. There's just pizza and it's freaky. You keep walking through it until your pizza's done. Yeah. Yeah, then they surprise you with its like fuck god damn. So how has a Strafe been showing? H It seems like the sort of game that you know, like like having played a little bit of it, you can get right into it. But with it having that kind of nineties feel, a lot of games games have kind of changed since then. You're getting people that just aren't familiar with those games, and you want to just like hit them and go like, what's wrong with you? Well, I'm okay with people not being okay with those games. Are not familiar with those games. Like a lot of the young kids will come up, we think the game's kind of hard, but then you have like a ten year old come up and just completely wreck it awesome and you know so in doing so, it's you know, Quake is still fucking great. You know, Doom is great. A lot of these older games that you know, we're very familiar with, but you know, a younger generation, a classic shooter is Halo. So it's it's like we're not trying to replace, We're just trying to stand on the shoulders of those giants make an awesome supplementary experience that you know, it's like uses the twenty years of knowledge that has been learned throughout that time and just you know, added the experience. So it's been showing very interestingly. You know, you see the demographics. People come in who you know, they get it, they love it. And then we had I think we've put about sixty press demos during the last three days locked in this airstream filled with smoke, but two people fell asleep, So I'm going to take that as an insult. So much so music's blasting doors, showering the walls, and you just see people like just E three is exhausting. Yeah, yeah, thank you for trying to help. It could have been a sensory overloading. I think the mind was like you know, overloaded with the actions, so it just had to like reboot for a second. That's such an interesting I fell asleep in a demo once and it just fucking so I was so bummed out, like because I it was like it was sort of thing where I didn't realize at the time that I had fallen asleep. It was just like some time disappeared I'm like, oh, this demo just skipped. Oh fuck. I remember that from school, where you would be like I got this and the heavy eyes and then you kind of wake up as you're falling out of your desk a little bit, and it's it's just, you know, I like it was during packs, and you know, at packs, like there's a little bit less work to do than there is D three, so there's time to just drink for four days straight, and so you know, I was kind of having rough the morning. It was like, we're gonna go see Guild Wars two first thing in the morning. U And I'm like, okay, let's go. And I'm like sitting there like a little a little woozy, you know. And we sit down and I'm like, this is a great chair. This is just fantastic, Like this is this is exactly what I need right now. This room's nice and cool, it's dark. They're showing this demo and I was fucking gone. And I don't know if anyone noticed it was something like this the first time. I said yeah, And there were other people in the room, so it wasn't just it wasn't just me, it was just me. Obviously they would have been like what the fuck, asshole. Instead they were about it. They're trying to convince you had a great time. I still owned up to it, like publicly afterwards it said like this happened and it's fucking embarrassing and sucks. But the thing I learned from this was, if you know, we were trying to show off the zone, we are currently implementing it to the game. It wasn't this polish dy three thing. I like to be caned that. I like to share what we're doing. So when I would be giving the spiel or you know, talking about like what's in the game, that's when you know they probably get so many developers saying this is what's in the game, and they just get you know, glazed over. But the moment you're like do you want to play, they just like kind of wake up and they get real into it. So, you know, any tips if you're ever sharing games, don't talk about it. I guess just let people touch, let the game do. Yeah, I think honestly, like I feel like Strafe talks pretty well for itself in a lot of cases too. Yeah, helps there's some of the interactions and stuff like that that it was like it was good to kind of have you talked about it a little bit, but like some of the this is just fascinating stuff with like the the acid and then the blood over the acid stuff of like acid spinning enemies that poison the floor and then explain that real quick. Yeah. So in Strafe, we have persistent gore. So within the levels, when you blow a head off an enemy or an arm or something like that, it's kind of like this ludicrous amount of blood and guts that fly around, but it never fades away. You can paint every square inch of our levels with blood. I'm sorry, man, we're making so different games. I love how how much can you paint with swats? You can? Yeah, totally, they're not that different. But you can cover every square inch of a level with like viscera and it wouldn't affect performance. So in doing so, you have this idea of like, oh, this is gore porn, So what can we do to make this a mechanic. Let's let's let's let's make ourselves feel better about ourselves at the end of the day instead of just torrible. So we introduce these acid enemies where sense it doesn't fade away if you kill them. They end up painting like acid on the floor and you have to it's now in vom environmental hazard you have to avoid. But if you have another enemy coming over full of fresh blood, pop them open, cover it up, and now it's a safe space again. Yeah. Yeah, that's the technical term is pop. Yeah. Uh. Last time I spoke with someone from Riot, they were talking about that, I know some of these plans been and I was like this other Internet that Riot's making its own Internet, and the deep wed Yeah, are you guys on the other Internet? Is it faster? Is it better? Is there is there more pornography or less? How does it work? It's always been like that. It's the It's one of those things where you realize, like, you know, because I don't I'm not a MOBA player. I just can't. I just I can't. Uh. But it's one of those things where you really start to realize just how big Riot is a everyone works for right now, because I feel like at some point like it's just like everyone's like, oh, I'm gonna right, We're in the Riot both Free Dark Internet two three is happening right here. It's a live interview and we're all working at right right, everyone watching is also being interviewed. You all work for Riot now, congratulations you get no stock stock And it was just the crazy like like hearing getting this pitched as like, oh, yeah, we're working on our own internet because obviously latency is a huge issue and we need our game to run well and we need to run reliably. It was this moment of just like, oh, Riot is the most biggest DIT company in the world of worlds, this is and it was frightening. I don't know if that was the actual stat yeah, but it is. So it's kind of a trip to see at least to see to see with league and you see this also with like just general tech services, right like Twitter, Facebook, whatever, yeah, Netflix? Right, Like, you get big enough and you start you start kind of pushing at the ends of like what infrastructure can do. Right, So like again to bring it back to fighting games real quick, like we know that that Internet in the US sucks compared to South Korea or Japan. Right, pangs are terrible, Routing is is kind of inefficient, and there's all like, as a user of the Internet, I don't think too much about where my data goes or why right right, because for the most part, it works fine, but just the number of you don't care about the number of hops. When you're just like I'm trying to load up things or send an email or like streams and video or whatever, I'm like, you know this, this thing seems to work well enough. Maybe my phone's little slow or whatever. But like when you look at something that is used by people all over the country or all over the world, then you start and you have people who are like really dedicated to making the experience better than it is right now, then you start to notice all these little things are like, well, if only we could fix that, if only we could fix that, right, And honestly, like that's an attitude which I think, like, uh, any any game developer can take in their own work, right. It's just that with with League, like the problems can get so big that you need to bring specialists and neither so hot or I work on on either of those teams for internet stuff. But like it's inspiring to see people go out and do that stuff like all across games. Yeah, definitely, it's It's just it was it was one of those inspiring things. But like you know this, it's like in some ways these are games solving much larger issues than Like I've always wanted to paint with blood and I just now it turns out, generally speaking, it's illegal rights when you build your own internet. Yeah, well yeah, if you build your own internet, you build your own law. That's how it works. It's exactly how it works, Tim Turrey, you build your own internet. I've been working on it. It's not completed, but I am working on it. Yeah. I started it back in Minnesota and just started the lying that was only concerned about it reaching my new place in San Francisco. Yeah. It's like you can only get so far really if you're one person. But yeah, I should trade some tips. Sure, yeah, she should call it the Tim turn At. Oh oh sh right, Yeah, we're just giving your gold like all night fill the worst business plan there, you go, Oh well, uh yeah it's so Jason, I went and played a bunch of Tech and seven show today. I play. Yeah, I did. It's he's it's cool. It's weird. Uh, but he doesn't feel quite it's not. It's not pure street Fighter, but it's enough of it. It's like it's like street Fighter, the movie version of street Fighter somehow where it just it he sticks in a couple of spots. Yeah right, yeah, no, just no, they're nailing it, But I mean that in a good way. Street Fighter the movie was amazing. I just need to put that out. Which version though, Like you think Arcade version or home version? The actual movie? Okay, yeah, yeah, the actual live action movie was amazing. The game itself was also, like there's actually a lot of neat stuff in there. Yeah that I think probably just kind of slipped through the cracks, right, but it is. It is again, It's one of those games that we come back to and we're like, no one paid attention to this when it came out, but I got I'm bored, I got a Saturn whynot? Right right? Yeah, And that's I ended up preferring the home version just because it had a little bit more of the like closer to actual Street Fighter, whereas that arcade version is Juggles and also other weirds. So it's crazy game anyway, Tech and seven. It was weird seeing them put a Street Fighter character into that game and have it actually work. And this is a game that normally has like bears and raptors and stuff in there, right, but you put like evil karate man in there, and that's weird. Yea quick ten events. So it's got like a story mode that's like kind of like more combat. It has an events in it, so like, yeah, quick time events is like in the story okay, but in a versus game, like you'll get like dramatic cameras and stuff like that, like sometimes a round will finish and like you know, as two moves are about to kind of slash a little like slow mo zoom in to watch that final hit and it's there's some cool effects around that stuff. But yeah, they had like kind of one story mode sequence, which is the stuff they showed in the press conference where it's like a lot of people reacting to that like, yeah, my god, is there quick time events in this fight? Totally not totally not, but the story mode, Yeah, there's just one point where they have you pushed down both punches to do like the Raging Demon, which is not how you do that move, but it works in that one in the specific case, and it's fine. Yeah, it's I am. I am totally ready for a new techn game as it turns out, like I just uh didn't play a ton of six and tag tournament twos didn't really grab me, but like, there's just something about Tech and seven I had. So I had never been a huge Tech and fan. I'd played a little bit i'd played. I got into it with Tech and five and and Steve Fox is just super cheap. So I learned how to do that stuff and piss off my friends and I was like, all right, But I once they started going to more tournaments across the country, I got to watch the Midwest Tech and scene go at it, and they got hype as heck, and I was just like the room would vibrate when techn was on, and it kind of helped me realize that, like there's something special about that game that can cultivate that hype. And even if I personally like it, doesn't deal with it, like I like watching it for that reason. It was just like I just remember originally just Tech and being one of those fighting games that like anyone could kind of get into, like Tech and one, you know, just like launching alongside the PlayStation, you were just like, this game looks killer. I've got this brand new PlayStation. It's way better than Toshinden and just you know, anyone like anyone who people who didn't normally play fighting games at that time, just still being able to get into it because it was just like one button per limb. Anyone can understand that go And so it always had this weird peel. It was like, seemed wider than even Street Fighter in a way. I was associated with the characters doing this. Yeah. Yeah, I was associated with characters falling on their back and they are all my bad, which techn seven still has uh and you think that they would they need to change that. It's it's truly ridiculous. So now that you're out there working on an Xbox One version of the R I guess formally announced Xbox One version of the game is the intent to kind of keep the early access version on Steam and Xbox One version. Yeah, they're they're they're going to be in sync. And so it's just like our Humble version as well. When we update the Steam version, Humble version gets updated, Xbox version will get updated as well. And so the game preview program on on Xbox allows you to be way more agile with like, oh my goodness, we need to you know, update it right now, and kind of just let you do it. So that's cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you tend to think about patching on a console is like this harduous process. Yeah, especially years ago, like certain stories we're nightmare colors. Yeah, yeah, not as much anymore. Yeah, that's awesome. And what kind of timetable are you on for kind of getting it to where it's I guess finals a weird one nowadays, but like when will it leave? We're not sure yet. We had sort of an original plan. We've modified it a little bit. We do have a public like roadmap that we update and we say, you know what's coming and and uh, as we update each one, we you know kind of strike that off. But we don't know yet. And you know, it's one of those games. I come from a like an MMO background, so I'm very very much thinking that we're going to you know, even at one point. Oh, it's not the end, especially if people are still digging it. We'll just you know, add more stuff to the game and expand on it and everything like that. So it's pretty exciting. Who Yeah, it's funny how uh leaving the online games space where you're kind of really tethered to the game and you have to you know, be babysitting it all the time. Servers go down and all that stuff. We you know, simran just a single player game. Maybe in the future, who knows, but we wanted to kind of keep it lean. There was only two of us when we started the project, and it's we thought, okay, well we can do this and it'll be the pressure will be way more oft than it was before. But doing early access, it's basically like you have an online game, so you're updating it all the time and you're responding to people and you're working with the community and everything, and it's awesome, but it is a hell of a lot of work to do that. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. If you are a small company thinking about doing early access, just know that if you want to do it right, you really have to engage, you know, totally. Yeah, it seems like, you know, the days of the early days of early access, you had a lot of like we're pushing this build out and then you're not going to hear from us for five months. Yeah, that's why would anyone buy? Totally that's not what this is supposed to be. But yeah, yeah, uh, there's a version of strafe kind of around. Is it for backers or well no, So how did that the we have a we call the speed Zone v two right now, And what had happened was we had asked for this is the first game wherever developing so previously had to come from the video background of you know, working on like music videos and commercials and stuff. So seems like you've leveraged that stuff pretty well in like the tutorial of the game, and it's it's it's fun and making games as a blast, So why not marry the two? And no one can say no? So the tutorial is so goodtorial is really good. It is like the best use of like FMV in like I feel like a modern game now, like you can you can get that kind of humor wrong really easily. I think you guys, well, I don't want the game to be jokey it just as I don't want to use nostalgia as a crutch. So I want the game to stand on someone two legs. And I also want with the tutorial you saw the we did an original spot for Kickstarter that wasn't us sitting behind our like in front of a web cam asking for money, because why should anyone care? You know, we haven't proved ourselves so so the idea was to take, you know, the marketing that you saw from the nineties and kind of turn it up to eleven. And that's that's kind of why we put that stuff in, but completely just blanked on you speed Zone. Yeah, so we put it up on chio. It's it's playable. It's a bit of a mess because what it happened was we asked for around two hundred thousand dollars initially because that seemed like the money we would need to fund development for a year plus, and in doing so, we were getting to that end and we just didn't look like we're a forecast to make it. So we put together this bill that locked a seed that you had to make it to the end, kill ninety percent of the enemies in the level, and you had a leaderboard for your shotgun, your machine gun, in your rail gun, which are the three guns you choose in the game. And in doing so, you had like a little online leader board thing, and we proved that the game was real, that we were actually trying to deliver what we were promising. So the build it's up is a year. It's came out in January twenty fifteen. Yeah, but we we tease, you know, of course older IT games. You know, you wanted to do something to shareware release, but we are kind of tossing that idea around and looking at the prosocons or releasing demos and don't know what we'll do yet, which you know, you can consider that like you're a Q test. Yeah in a way, yea, but yeah, I think the speed you know, Quake kind of invented speed running and it's something that's super intriguing to watch. But I think a lot of people, including myself, are intimidated by it because I don't have an exorbited amount of time to dictate or to put into just running the same game. It kind of just I would get exhausted of that. So we're, you know, we're doing things where like our online play will be like locking a seed of the game for a week and then giving people time to it'll use a different set of rules than the single player uses. We'll actually try to, you know, let's make it a little more katie, like, make it a fun experience, give you deep clips, strong weapons, and and I think it'll like kind of make speed running a little more casual. You have time to dig into the map, find your lines, and then you know, hopefully climbed the leaderboard. Yeah, but cool? And Tim, what's next for Reside Evil seven? Also timterios RESIVI actually before we get to that, when you first started, did they have that logo done? Uh? You know? I saw that, oh man, like a couple a couple of months into it. Yeah, And it was just like someone had it up on their monitor and I just walked by it and I just double take. I'm like, wait, hold on a second, is that it? Because then there there's the little part of the L in there, and then then they're like, all right, well hold on, let me show you the Japanese logo, and they switched in like sevens and the Z and stuff. I just like, I was like, this is the best. Yes, Why did you guys talk about this every single day? Just like, wait till they see the logo? Yeah, the demo, the demo will be cool. What PS plus subscribers downloaded? But the logo, I mean it worked for Reside Evil six, right, Like everyone remembers the Residevil six? What are they remember about it? But I think like, especially did you hear about the kitchen thing? I played the kitchen thing last year and so I know, like the font was similar, but I saw someone saying, like, what have you seen the kitchen thing? And then it was a font and like I just in the heat exhaustion death of my brain that E three has been like I looked at it when like I don't know what am I supposed to be looking at? So what was I supposed to be looking at? Look at it again? I don't have time to look at the seven in the tea. Oh okay, all right, yeah, it's oh good good, yeah, all right, Yeah, there's there's a lot of there's a lot of clever things going on with uh like Capcom Japan, which is like, oh again, I didn't make Resumeal seven myself. Again, I was really I was really busy. I was waiting to see how long it would take divest yourself of that someone was watching. Yeah, I was busy with my hammer and nails were busy with the internet. Right, what was it called the Yeah, like I worked closely with the marketing team and do you know social community stuff like that? Right? Yeah, what's not an in game? This is not in any game. CAPCOMs a publisher developer. That's the new subtitles Resident Evil seven, Coal and biohas or dash. This is not an Inti's right. Yeah, they finally broke out six stress. Capcom's out there. They're doing the big deals. Now I'm money for the gritty speed Rumbler reboot, the Speed Rumblers, to send some design docs over or great. Okay, yeah, this has to this has to tim this has to happen. We have to make a new speed Rumbler. I can't. I don't know how to take this passion. Literally have no say in what games Capcom makes I know, but we Yeah, we have to make this happen. It's the it's a great car combat game. You can get out of the car. You can get out of cars. Try not to get out of the car, but you can get out of the car. I want to make a game where you might want to get out of the car. So well, we can take this conversation offline, bring trade some ideas. Yeah, we're taking orders. Can we get another Powerstone too, power Stone two, Powerstone two two the canceled Powerstone two two? Yeah, never very different. All right, Well we'll we'll hammer you with the rest of the games that we need you to get on making. Uh. Here in a moment, so she turned the cameras off and get very serious about the games you will be making next year. Get in line, because Twitter is really messy with that stuff. It turns out if you go from any company to another company, you've learned everyone's favorite game that they want. Yeah, yeah, it's really back. That's right, Yes, absolutely, all right, Tim, Terry's the speed Rubber. We'll be out in twenty eighteen and we'll return after this break. Thank you so much for coming and hanging out everybody. You all right, we'll be back. Hello here we are back again three twenty sixteen. It's in the books. It's finido. Just turn this off and go no, no, stay right here, because we've got another batch of guests. I'm Jeff Kersman kicking things off. We've got the train Jam's own Asriel Wallack. How's it going down there? It's it's going pretty good. Yeah. E three is over, so it's like time to relax a little bit and have some fun and not sleep in tomorrow because I agreed to a nine am breakfast meeting, but you know, sleep in the afternoon a little bit. Yeah, No, that's I've I've I've just got an all day drive ahead. Of me tomorrow. So that seems like the smart smartest thing to do is relaxing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's it. Actually, the quiet is nice. Yeah, Romie, you've done the you've both done the drive down to E three last year. Him boys in the back of our car, so that made it. I'm gonna have in the front of my car on the way tomorrow, him in the back. Okay, all right, it's much better. I'm not an uber driver. I'm not gonna let him sat him in the back of the car, fair enough, all right, put him in the trunk and just put him back there. Yeah, we'll just lock him back. Yeah. The Canadians are polite, they do that. Yeah, they'll say sorry to get out. Sorry, I'm sorry. Ed Boone from another realm is here. How's it going? Very good? I'm finally I'm very happy to be here. Great. Yeah, we're happy to have you. Yeah, awesome. I missed you guys the last couple of years. So yeah, yeah, so we were we were in a different room in this place last year and it was a I remember when you were in that that one kind of beat up, yeah, kind of place signed downtown and it was pretty scary. But that's the place next to like the taxi dancing club or whatever it was. Yeah, it was like it was cool, but it was it was this is you guys have like moving on. We've convinced the company to give us slightly more money. It's just like another like twelve bucks and we're like, okay, now we get a meeting room at this weird place. Yeah. No, I was watching you guys, uh last night when you had a Cliff Blazynski and uh or was that the night before, Tim Schaefer, Yeah, that was I think that was last Honestly, it's a big thing. Yes, no, that's yeah, that's John Drake's Jena said, back there, yeah, Geo Corsi of PlayStation fame. Yea, back there of Beard Fame, part of the Beard Gang. That's right. How's it going? The Beard is good? Good? Yea? And how is the man attached to the beard little hashtag building the beard? A little tired? Got some food poisoning last night? Nice? Yeah, yeah, so spend the evening in the washroom. I think there's some raw fish up also wonderful, maybe a good feel so good get in Yeah, you know, but I got some medicine. I'm okay, okay, yeah, that's all. It takes a little bit medicine, that's right, that's right. Yeah, we got Josh from twenty four three. How's going back there? Good? How are you doing? I'm doing really well. Thanks so good for coming. Yeah, just tripping over my words over here. It's right to be here. It's just crazy times. So obviously, you know, Halo five is out, it is, you know, but you're you're making a lot of updates to the game and doing that sort of stuff. Is that something that factors into E three in a big way or do you kind of just get some free time to kind of see stuff? Honestly, Like this has been the first E three that I haven't been here for the whole show in over fifteen years. So yeah, I just came down today and I got to walk the floor a bit. But yeah, this year meetings and not much else for me. Yeah, that's uh, it's one of those things. It's like kind of weirdly nice. I don't know, I don't know if I could do it. I feel like I need to be here the whole time just to get a sense of what's really going on. Yeah, to get in on the ground floor. Yeah, and you've got a new game announced fresh we did. I was actually we ran into you guys at the the Warner Brothers booth and and we knew we were going to do this, so we didn't. Yeah, we didn't do the formalities. Yeah, but yeah we did. I guess I don't want to get into kind of pitchy mode, but we brought Injustice two here. Yeah, we did a game in twenty thirteen, the first Injustice and uh it it did well first, and so we we brought the second one and and headed at Yeah. I remember talking. I guess it must have been twenty twelve at this point that we talked about Injustice after it got announced before it came out, talking about roster stuff and not to just like bill you about an announced characters. But Hawkman. Hawkman's in this one, that's right, Yeah right, yeah, TALKU is here to report. Yeah, and they could use the traffic. So I was. I was just reminded about that Hawkman conversation that we had, and then I was reminded about like when I did I did think I did this with with with Dave, Lane and jav and all those guys, and then it was like this infamous thing. Yeah, and and everybody was telling me, you know, that was crazy, and I never watched it yet. I'm still like, I hope it's I hope it's an archive or stuff. It's up on the site some day. One day, I'm gonna I'm gonna have the guests. Maybe someday Dave will watch it. I don't think he's gone back in. I've seen a few since then where I think JV like gave out his phone number and that was here last year. That was that was here last and they're like next right, so like that. Yeah, we kind of yeah and little nervous about something and all of something, but yeah, we brought, we brought the game and so awesome get and how has it been received. It seems like, you know, people coming through seeing theater demos in little hands on time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was. It's you know that this this whole uh gear stuff that we're doing. Yeah, you know, like custom pieces that kind of power up your characters. And I saw it, yeah, because we saw it. We played a little bit of it and saw like the Level one characters and then kind of unlocked the level twenty characters and seeing all this armor bolt onto the guys like all right, yeah, yeah, it's just kind of trying to you know, mix up the whole fighting game thing and and try to try to, you know, do more than just kind of like the the the typical sequel of more characters, more backgrounds, more stuff like that, more Hawkman, more hawk Man and all that stuff like that. Yeah. Yeah, so it was, it was. It's it's good. So fu yeah. Uh, Rommy, you're you know, Nuclear Throne is out and and you know out in the world, you're obviously traveling around. Where where did you come from and where are you going next? Oh my god? Last month I had a tour around the world in twenty five days, so I don't even remember. I've been to like Singapore and Jakarta, and Australia, New Zealand, Russia, a bunch of other places. Those all sound like places. Yeah they're actually real. Yeah okay, all right, so yeah, no, they're they're true. Okay, they are real people there and they make real things. It's yeah, it's phenomenal people real things. Did not expect any of it, No, it was amazing. Yeah, it was good. I'm Afican. Good time after nuclear thrown Me and j W. Sat down and we had a meeting and we basically said I don't want to talk to you for six months, and then we didn't talk to each other for six months and it was phenomenal. We loved it. Its two another six months. Yeah. Yeah, when I get back together, I was like, Okay, we need to think about doing something new. And yeah, so we're we have some prototypes, we have some things we're playing with, but there's nothing like really concrete. So this was the most relaxed E three I've done in my life, which was nice. So yeah, things are good. Things are good. They're kind of calm, which is new that I just spend time on airplanes flying around. And you know, Adrian, you know you're known for being on trains a lot, but obviously you I understand you fly as well. Yeah, I travel. I would. I would put myself at like sixty percent of the amount of travel around me does, which is still quite a lot, and I do a lot more of it by train, although you were on train gym usually every year as well, which puts you on a train a lot. But yeah, something about a train, it's yeah, yeah, trains are pretty great. Like for train jam, like we go from Chicago all the way to San Francisco and go through like the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevadas, and it's all very like inspirational and exciting where you get a whole bunch of like creative, awesome work done. It's always neat to sort of see that, and it's like this weird, antiquated form of travel that nobody does anymore, rather than three hundred game developers every year once a year. So how did the show go for? You? Were kind of like hang out seeing stuff, doing meeting. Yeah, I had had some meetings, a lot of like stuff gearing up for train Jam for next year already and like getting like you know, sponsorships and stuff like that, and just sort of hanging around and catching up with people and yeah, just checking things out. I only got onto the show floor today, but yeah, that was all you really need is like three hours to walk around and just ogle at the totally bananas like displays that everybody puts on. Yeah that's you know, and displays for Well, yeah, we talked about it, like, you know, Bethesda's got this huge booth that's just like running trailers that were at their press conference that are up on the Internet and there's people standing there watching them like that's cool. Like, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything about the quality of the trailers or the booth. It's a it's a beautiful booth. The trailers are great. But you could just both like a twitch streaming part right now, And I'm like, what if everybody is twitch streaming from me three, then why are we in this hole? Because I can just tune in and like I can walk from booth to booth, or I can just hit the random on Twitch and then go to any channel yes years ago. Here you get the you know, experience of bumping into people and the smell and like the annoyance of people stopping in front of you while you're trying to walk somewhere. There's food trucks. That's good. Across the JW. I feel like the line for the food trucks is oftentimes longer than the lines of the show. JEO, did you spend any time with food trucks? Obviously not. I did meetings you're doing, I did. I did one day. Yeah, the food was that food trucks? No, no, no, no, god, those food trucks are glorious. Yeah, yeah, No, I spent most of the time running between the JW and the show floor. I spent about an hour in the South Hall kind of running around and you know, seeing the cool Mafia three booth and spending time in New Orleans. That was great. And then did you show them your badge? Yes? I did. And then you know, just kind of popping in on the Sony booth and making sure that the Indians were running smooth and everything was okay there and talking to a few folks and then running to the next meeting. It was just a lot of running. And you know, I don't know if you notice, I have a bit of a weight problem. And running is not a good thing. No, I don't like it. I disagree. I agree on one point and not the other. Yeah, running is not a good thing game, you know what running is a young man's exactly. Just at some point you're just say, let's just book one less meeting every day and have a little bit more time to get from place to This is the first year and twenty years of booking meetings that I only booked forty five minutes for the hour, so I get myself fifteen minutes to uh get a coffee smart. You know, that's smart. Yeah, that's smart real not run? Yeah you know, yeah, chis if you're listening, it's a little bit late for you to be up right now. Say no to running. Someone asked to ye won't you what about basketball? And you're always out playing basketball? I'm play basketball. I do play it. Played twice a week? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I what's what's your you know, are are you working inside? You know, like hanging back, shoot on the outside shooter guy? Okay, yeah, that's uh. And then so occasionally do you I don't. I'm not super, but I'm not like the most like basketball oriented person in the world. Like, you know, I can shoot it, but do you go are in the paint? Yes, yes, I try to surprise people and go hard in the paint. That's not the most basketball oriented person, you know with the basketball. It's not the basketball. Yeah, I'm not. He was on the basketball and don't even know any of the words. You've just been playing. Basketball is a sport. Yea. They have a ball. It's like it's like orange like the basket. Yeah, there's a baskets. Mister double Day invented the five should start a sports twitch Outside the three pointers, and yeah outside the arc. I was like, very like the play people outside of the field, that's could be cool. That's the next NBA Jam's gonna happens working on that. They put out the blast, they put out the m on it. I was just asking somebody the other day of you know, we should do another NBA jam. Get that license back, and I claimed it a few whatever and I ran to gregfish Stream right yeah, yea, and hadn't talk to him and so long, and he was talking like here or at the Michael Pactor party, okay, and you know we're talking about the the the arguments that we were having for the first s NES version of Mortal Kombat one. What happened with that thing? I meant to ask John Blackburn U a previous of Disney Infinity, Yeah, because he worked on that version of the game. And I never got a two solid of an answer out of him. It just well, it was it was. I actually got a call from from Greg at my house because I remember, like, you know, getting a phone call from the president of Acclaim and because because I had to like kind of sign the things saying yes you can, we can start making all the cartridges and stuff like that, and and the Genesis one played really great, and the nintend To one play didn't. Is good. Yeah, let's let's exactly and uh and and I was we were kind of like holding up the holding up the production, you know, and so we're in an argument and stuff, and we finally settled at a practice party twenty twenty four years later. It's good. It's good to get that. Yeah, finally under the bridge and now hotter temper back there, closer. It's twenty three years ago, twenty four years ago, something like that now, very easy going, yeah, yeah, in my old age. Yeah, geo, not to get too deep into old old stuff here. I don't want to reopen wounds. It's it's a part where I cry maybe uh you. At one point, we're working on Star Wars thirteen thirteen, Yes, a game that never seems to go away, even as EA announces their Star Wars lineup that seemed to be very well received and doing quite well. I still see. I found I was cleaning up and I found my invite to go see Star Wars thirteen thirteen at E three and I was like, man, I thought, I was like, I wonder if I bring this D three will they let me see this world again. Yeah, I can't get and on this. How crazy is it that that thing still gets the the attention that it seems to today. It comes up, I mean, it comes up. It I mean it brings a smile to my face. That's uh. It's one of those ones. You know you talk about regrets you have in your career, and honestly, it was the one that got away from me. It was that one that I wished could have come out. Yeah, you know, I know, business is business, and things happen, and unfortunately it all went south for the game. But I was really proud of the product. I was really proud of the team that we had working on it, and I thought it would have been something special. It ended up happening. At last well, Disney bought Lucas and the console rights for Star Wars went to EA, and all the games that were in production got shuttered and they kind of restarted the whole thing. And you know, we got a great game out of Battlefront for sure, and I'm really excited to see what else is coming down the pipe. But yeah, No, thirteen thirteen was you know, pour one out from my homies. It was one that got away. Yeah, for sure. It's a very moving tribute. Thanks. Yeah, you know, our annual E three tribute to Star Wars search yea last night at E three now is officially Star Wars thirteen thirteen day year. Now. Obviously, you know a lot of friendships in this business, and you know, like people kind of weave in and out from position to position. You and Josh spent quite a bit of time together over the years, and now Josh was my very first boss in the industry. Yeah, way back in the old days of the mid nineties. Yeah, that's Quality Assurance of Electronic Arts Canada. Now, we were in tests when you've dodged the Midway bullet. No, that's yes. I feel like I've heard some stories about QA there out of one Adam boys, it was like the same same group of people. Yeah, lots of people came out of that sounds like sounds like a rowdy group, you know. Little It was the time before HR was powerful. We were in a completely separate building, you know, QA was in a completely separate building from development, and you know, we had a job to do and we all worked very hard, of course, very hard, of course, so we played very hard. You have to and uh, you know, sometimes the play got a little out of hands. Fair to say, fair to say, fair to say. I hear a story about someone laying down the middle of the road. I don't know, I don't know if we want to get into that, but that she seems like something seems things happened pickling down by the roadside. Yeah, the highway, the highwayman, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Times there was a guy. We can tell it without naming names. Yeah, sure, sure, we can stay without naming I'm inserting Adam Boys into everything. Every last day Canada, and as was tradition at the time, that we would go to a place called the North Burnaby in which was an establishment that ladies may have removed pieces of clothing. Okay, I get you right. So one guy who was there for Adam Boys going away party named Adam Boys. Adam Boys proceeded to get horrendously drunk, still had to do an afternoon of work. Yeah so. But at the same time, Adam Boys had his HR exit into the interview, which did not go well. What no, no, no, Adam Boys a fool of himself and may have like said horrendous things to this nice HR lady and then proceeded to realize what he did. So Adam Boys ran out of the building, ran down the street, ran across the highway, and proceeded to fall into the ditch and pass out. So the cops were called and like it was a horrible thing. Adam Boys got hauled away. Uh none that this was Adam Boys. Boys is my manager, so I do not want to job. But back in the nineties, at this day, Adam Boys was a horrendous mess. And yeah, so after that there were no more visits to the North Burnaby In. Let's just put it that way. That's probably that's possessed. Was that was one you know when the entire company is plastered on the window watching this, uh stumbly Adam Boys, like running down the street, across the highway, not actually do it and you never come out again. God that guy. Oh we're all in trouble now. I feel like we need like a flashing warning. Not Adam Boys, not Adam Boys. Yeah, Adam Boys, not actually Adam Boys. But the story I think he will he will confirm the story as like not h it's not actually h literally not a stronger the cases that it was Adam Boys. All the people that are called Adam Boys. He's not, well, we just used them for they wasn't Adam boys, but it is Adam Boys. Wasn't Adam Boys. But but everybody in the story was Adam Boys. Yeah, there were multiple Adams. Adam Boys did the eventeen Adam Boys. Geo and Josh went to this thing and uh and then just you know, just things happen, things happen, things happen. Yeah, you know, it was a younger time it was. I mean, those were the days where like you know, I was like done back then you hear that Wow, you hear the qua stories of like you know, working one hundred and twenty hours a week and you know, like you go home for a quick shower, grab a nap, and then come back and work a whole other shift, and like, you know, it was it was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. Yeah, I'm gonna say, what what what? Yeah, what I guess we're mad about it. Yeah, because we're still trying to happen. We've got to change it. But now, like I said, we worked hard, but we played hard. But I mean we had great teams and like Josh said, a lot of great people came out of that mid to late nineties EA Canada. I remember working one hundred hours straight and then falling asleep on a foosball table. I was really hoping, we're going to go for Highway Ditch day. I remember my last day. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I I can only imagine. I mean, well, you know, like yeah, we you know, starting like kind of this sort of stuff, you know, a more serious way in the mid nineties, myself kind of coming out of some print stuff that was very much not serious stuff. Yeah, like launching websites. We were we I had to sleep, I had to stay in a hotel room because I didn't live in San Francisco at the time. We were just like going so nuts on site. Launched things. Was like all right, We're gonna go to this hotel room and be here for two hours then go back. Except we were reviewing games and actually like writing and doing stuff. It was just like okay, like I go back and read. Some of those reviews are still on game Spot because we were launching video game Spot at the time, and the mandate was we will have one hundred reviews by December first. When we launched this site on November twenty seven. Yeah, and I wrote a lot of them and we got the Surprisingly, we had a hundred reviews. That's all. I'll say. The quality of everybody reviews no, I mean yeah, like I think they reviewed a moment like this is English, okay. Review ninety seven is like game good Yeah, yeah, good Wave Race. I don't know. What's a Nintendo six. I don't know. Launching a website in the nineties is pretty easy. It's just GeoCities dot com. Yeah. We installed a copy of Hot Dog Pro. Yeah, and some sparkles. You're fine, Yeah, video games absolutely, and that's yeah. I think again. Remember that you're you're like slightly nervous telling this story. You can tell you're like, oh god, it's like because all those reviews are still there. That's the that's the thing you can go back and read like Power Slave for the Saturn. I'm sure it's really dramatic reading. We have done literally that it's it's real. There's some bad text on the internet with my name on it. Some people say that, like the last thing I wrote was the worst. You get used to it, and I feel like, you know, the with Mortal Kombat and you guys were some of the first to really embrace the Internet in strange ways. I remember ube dot com yeah, going up and just having like you know, hints and teasers and sort of stuff about the game, like in a way that you would probably consider viral marketing now. Yeah, yeah, it was. It was weird. I have nube is like my last name backwards. Wait a minute, and it just happens to me. It also also happens to yeah, yeah, it also happens to be you know, the term nube wasn't didn't exist back then, you know, when I when I got the domain away from you, Yeah, and and I've gotten like like offers are like, oh I bet fifty thousand dollars seventy five thousand dollars for the domain. That's not enough. And and but it's like, you know, it's like this personal thing, and but I used to put all these kind of just it was kind of like the equivalent of what Twitter is now, where you're just you know, kind of talking to people exactly exactly and uh and so so it was kind of like you know, our own way of talking to people. You know, there's no susting as Twitter, there's no social media or something like that, and that that was our social media, but that was that was a lot of fun, Like how hands on were you? Were you with some of the stuff. I remember when Mortal Kombat three was coming out, there was the whole thing with all the combat codes and and all that that worked its way into all the ads, and then there were hats with the symbols on them, and yeah, that was I think that was the first time that that we we Midway published. That was the first Midway pups a claim exactly just before that acclaim, which you know did a did a fantastic job. I was talking to Great fishback about the yes, just saying, you know, god, you guys did such a great job with that. But it was it was the first time we worked with an ad agency, so all of a sudden they said, you know, we're gonna do you know these uh you know, marketing graffiti versions exactly and marketing that whole concept of of you know, you know, telling people about the games, telling people about the game, and we're paying a lot of money to do it and and and professionally. And it wasn't just me, you know, do and kind of my own marketing type of stuff. So it was weird. It was. It was a weird, weird experience and and you know, somebody else kind of taking taking the reins of how to communicate the game was that was it hard to kind of like like I guess imagine something off on a ton of stuff. It was intimidating. Yeah, yeah, it was. It was. It was very intimidating. It was because they were saying, you know, we're gonna put you know, fifteen million dollars into this, and I was like, that's more than the game costs. And because it was a lot of a lot of and you're showing them like Striker and going like, here's what we get market then they got it. Guys got kind of a gun, doesn't he exactly? So yeah, that was that was a weird time. But but you know, and in retrospect you look back at it and it's like, you know, that's so much simpler than than how you know, the process right now? Yeah, so much simpler Now it's just like a billion different hits, a long campaign and all the other stuff. Yeah, there were there were. MK three was seven guys. Now we're one hundred and eighty, So it's it's it's a lot things above numbers. Yeah, Yeah, it was, it was, it was. It was very intimidating for me. Yeah, and I mean you know now like coming from you know, Ea, Canada through conspiracy that there's the propaganda propaganda of the sort of well, you know, it's been a long show now. Halo is obviously like you know, at that level as well of just being this gigantic thing cross marketing and books and all this other stuff, and that's, uh, that's got to be really wild to work on that stuff. How much of the like other parts of the franchise, you know, obviously like Halo Wars two envelopment now and you know, just kind of lore stuff that happens around it. Like is that something that like you're able to give input on or you kind of strictly focus on, like we're making shooters over here. No, I mean, I'm so For me personally, my my primary focus is the shooter, but everything that we do across the you know, across the franchise is all thought of as interrelated and sort of thinking about, okay, how do we continue to expand the fiction and and everything, and and it it's huge. It's like the the impact that everything has the fan base and and how much people care about this universe. Is is really you know, it's striking, It's it's powerful and uh so yeah, and it's and it's it's really interesting coming from you know, fairly humble beginnings and sort of the old days of the game's industry to be working on something that has so much reach across books and you know, comic books and toys and everything else. And and just to you know, to interact with with kids that care so deeply about the things that you're making. Is is really is really cool. Yeah, when's the Nuclear thrown transmit your play gonna happen and we're gonna see where's the movie that? Yeah, yeahs magazine. It's actually really interesting. Nuclear Throne came out December fifth last year, and since then there's been a lot of people drawing fan art and doing like comics and stuff like that. Recently, somebody figured out how to decompile the entire game and then good and has spent months adding online multiplayer to it. So there's now a version of Nuclear Throne somewhere with like unline co op huh, which as a game developer, I can tell you that's not an easy feat. Yeah, as anyone like let me decompile this game somehow like east to code back again, cram this into the middle of make online multiplayer. And we had always said, like it'll take six months to do something like that properly, and then six months after the game comes out, it turns out somebody has been working on it for six months, just without us knowing it. So I guess there is online multiplayer for Nuclear Throne. Now, so what do you I mean, that's the sort of thing that some studios would see that and call a lawyer. I suspect that's not your move. Our move was to figure out what this means, because we have no idea what this means. So we we it means there's online multiplayer. Oh that's it. Okay, it's not car thing. We didn't make it, so we can't take responsibility for how it works or whether it formats or hard drive. Right, we don't. We don't know what's in there, but it's got the title of your game on it though it got over the game. So we're trying to figure out how to deal with this. But like, it's cool that somebody did that, and it's really it's really exciting that somebody would go and love the game so much that they're like, hey, let me spend six months of my life doing effectively the job that we have to make this thing that didn't exist. So there's no cross media thing. There's definitely cross computer multiplayer, so that's almost the same those media. There's also cross a drill. Did you just do this on the side, like in secret, just like everybody? Yeah, you know, when i'd like disappear and like go to the bedroom and like I would say I'm sleeping, I was actually getting online multiplayer crew graing. She's the same one who did the I had a twenty something year code and U in Arcady that you also did. Yeah, every every coding anything is all me in the whole section. Yeah. Yeah, good to know. Yeah, I'm a pretty good programmer. Programmed your website. Yeah, I programmed your website. This is why you never never tell anybody with a website that you made their website. Yeah, don't do it. And also you've never touched in network. No, you've never done anything. We're like to the interduc pretend you've never touched any technology ever. Ed those codes did get out? What why were those there in the first place? Like these menus well, I guess you could kind of see the endings without playing the game, just like punching in from a track mode. The origin, the original reason was, you know, back in my day, there was these arcade games, okay, and they had lock boxes, and we tested them, and we went to arcades and sometimes the the the the employees there weren't there, and I wanted to come in and see, you know, how many how many times this happen, how many irmax happened, how many candle transformations happened? And so zeros it turns out in zero yeah, and and and so I wrote this code that was like you know, a bunch of button pushers, and I was like, who's going to figure that out? Yeah, you know, and for twenty three for twenty three years, nobody did. And then and then like within the last few months earlier, this somebody, somebody we kind of like it reminded me where you were saying, somebody, you know, disassembled my code. It was it was assembly language code, you know, and somebody disassembled it, figured it out, went on YouTube, figured it out, and three three of our games had had that had that code. There. There's there's like an interesting scene because like whenever as a game developer you think like, nobody's going to figure this exactly, that's somebody. That's the biggest mistake you can make, because nobody's gonna find this, right because the nuclear throwne we have like a gun that shoots guns, like you fired a gun, and then a random weapon in the game comes out and it's like impossible to get. And it was like within a week people were like, hey, there's a gun that shoots guns. We actually, for fun when people were data mining through our game. So people were data mining and we were putting in secrets and then people were finding those secrets not by playing the game, but by data mining the fine, right, just so like when you were in early access kind of before stuff was hooked up, right, So we put some things in the data files that aren't actually in the game. Yeah they're still searching. We did that too, right. We would put text in there saying, you know, characters that don't exactly and the text they would find it all of course it's in there, but but the code like for that that you know to disassemble. That is my favorite, My favorite form threat is still like Flander would never do that their way to professional for that, and I'm like, oh god, they don't know you guys at all. They don't have game developers. Yeah, now GEO being part of third party? Is this the sort of thing that she's just shut down and just stamp out of, Like people hiding weird stuff in the game. You're like, no, you can't, SRB wouldn't allow it. They'll hang or anything. I don't see anything. I don't know. It's fine. Nice nice? Uh. I guess like you know, you kind of got out there with building the list and and all this other stuff, and like there's just become this very social side, very public facing side of of the video game business over the last few years. How has that? How has that been? You kind of came out there and said like, hey, we want to make these games. Obviously you know some of them did gone to to get made, and you know some of them are still in discussion. Some of them you can't touch with a fifty foot pole, like right, just businesses, no desire or the team's completely gone and nobody knows where the rights are and yeah, how do we even deal with this? Like yeah, you just can't do it. But yeah, and overall it's been great. I mean, the list is still alive and a lot of the same titles keep getting asked for and we're we're looking into it and whatnot. But that ends up being the best way, you know, because we get a lot of feedback from people that just want to see games get made or we see you know, people out there kind of badgering publishers and developers with you know, with a game name over and over again, like what would can you what's the best practices for if people want to voice their feedback. Obviously different publisht is gonna have, but like, what would you recommend people? Actually, well, the thing is like when they ask me, like you tweet, tweeted, get on social media, get on social media, just type hashtag skate forward and overgaverbody. I mean, the thing is it's great to tweet at us at at a console and say, hey, I really want to see this game, but you got to you gotta tweet the publisher and the development. Actually, they've got the right stoics because the first thing they asked is really, how many people want this? You know? So that's it's the twelve people on Instagram on every single EA post hashtags. We are getting it. It's only as much as they are getting it, you know that helps. That's just just PlayStation sweet PlayStation Ram for Skate FOURD tweet say hey, if you could tell Geo we would like to see if you include, I'll take care of it. That's how it works. Yeah, that's how it works. It's actually hashtag the grid too, what are we talking that? The angrier the tweet, the more like that. Okay, and just the angrier people like where's rain exactly? Where is it? More exclamation points, Yeah, the more likely. We always listen to angry tweets. I think my favorite is the hashtag fuck Corsi. Yeah, I got that a few times. Yeah, No, I started that it was I meant I meant it in a different way than people took it. Yeah, but you know, hey, what am I gonna do? What are you gonna do? Yeah? That was always fun to read. And that's when you know my wife was looking at and she's like, really, this is this is your job? Yeah? Take this like not like it's impossible for people around us to figure out why people are that mad at us for doing I know our job every now I know. Yeah, Yeah, it's I still got I still got tweets from people that want me to update the clone of ridiculous fishing I think, and I'm like, wait, that's not my game. Yeah. Between that and the people that are trying to like report you to the people at your company to get you fired up from your copy. Every time, every time people get angry, there's somebody that emails HR and Flamber to point out that I was being an ass on Twitter that HR Flabber is my meal box. So here's where you go. We'll take care of this video right now. Actually, yeah, we need a new HR by the way, Like someday, whenever lamber ceases to exist, just fire yourself like in this Brandy after you guys request like and then have an exit interview, go to a place. That's how you truly become Adam Boys. I don't think Adam Boys was originally named Adam Boyce. He became Adam Boys after following this, After that series of events, you kind of just inherit. The you get the man James Bond, Right, it's a title, Yeah, the next Adam Boys. All right, Well, I'm gonna let you guys get out of here. I know it has been a ridiculously long night and yeah, we've got to send this thing down in flames. And I don't know if any of you want to be here. There's gonna be Adam Boys. I can't wait to watch. We can finally finish our date that we were on. Yeah, yea, yeah, you got the food ready to go. Thank you so much for coming ed, Thanks for coming out, Thank you, Thanks Josh Geo, always a pleasure. Thank you. We're going to take a break and we'll be back with the final issue. One of the final segments of the evening. Stay tune, Hello, Welcome back to giant bomb dot COM's official coverage of three twenty sixteen. The show is officially over and the our show is nearing its conclusion. Some might call it a climax, but let's call it an anti climax. No, we're gonna call it a climax because Serial Talk twenty sixteen is back. What to do? We've got Adam Boys from PlayStation Ostensibly yeah, ostensibly. I don't think he's representing them now, No, no, no, I'm just an as employee of Midway and it worked with you guys. Are you not sweaty, because I'm If you don't four sweat upon me by nervous before we get started a Canada, before we get started, I want I want to put their phones in the bag. Okay, Jeff too, all right, Okay, cute photo of us doing a photo there. We wanted a phone to take a cute photo of us old team whoa photoshop? Safe? Okay? I feel a little bit better now, don't Okay? Yeah, Adam boys, former EA Canada. That's why we were talking a little bit earlier with Josh and Geo about than I was used as they were the standing surrogate for I guess the highwayman. The highwayman. Yeah, that was that was insanity. Yeah, sounds like passing out, almost getting arrested and less. Double chin from from Iron Galaxy. Dave Lang is all the way on the end. Hello, mister Lang, hold on one question? What is that a good luck? Right now? How you're doing? Probably not? Here's the way you read embarrassed to reset, reset the hot button, give a the blue stel, Hit him with the blue steel. Hit him with the blue steel right now, Hit him one time. Turn from your right. No, Dave, you cannot make me ask for blue steel. I can do blue steel. But everyone needs to be perfect right now, and the only person that asks perfect is the one who is the hottest wearing the first sas glasses with the thinning hair, and that would be me. Yes. Is this a bit from like don't mess with the Zohan? I was just like that, I want to fuck him. Yeah, before you were like, I got my style from Disney Interactive for like the next three weeks, John ticket everyone. Yeah, the only thing you have to lose is your package. It'll be fine, right, Yeah, as I've been reminded. But at the same time, it's wonderful to be here. So much for having me. It's so funny. It was like you were you were like, hey, it's nine five on Thursday, that would be the great time for you to come on Giant Bomb again. I'm like, ah, is that the last time that you're doing any interviews? And apparently it is. I guess we're closing it down again. Yeah. Yeah, you guys are are closing it down again. Yeah. Like you like like you're building new turning out new careers. I mean, you got you know, you gotta like try these different looks and try things out, right, you gotta figure out like what you're sitting fucking Indian style, like that's new for you. This is you know, this whole show. This is totally Yeah, I'm gonna stay indeed all right, flexible, fair enough, fair enough, all right? Fine, Yeah, we must grow, is what I'm saying. We all have to evolve, right and move on, evolve from two K and Turtle Rock the stores. Now, you know what I'm saying. What is going on? I'm so hot right now. I feel like I should take you, should take thank you? All right? So I know I did, we did already. Yeah, you're saving the best for last. That's why I did him and then you and then him, and I'm nervous. Guy. So, John, I saw you on the show floor of E three the other day. Seems like you were kind of getting out there hanging out doing some things. Uh, different sort of show for you this year. How'd it go? I think great? Go ahead, guys, No, it's lem I know it. There's always a giant bomb here, like it's there's always a problem here. I get it, Like this has been a problem. There's multiple years this microphone has been a problem in my face. I don't know why. Yes, this E three is a little bit different. Shut up, Dave. So there's fewer people showing games. One of the major differences, like once again the only way directly affects me. Once again, Here I am on Giant Bomb jobless and uh yeah here I am yeah. Alright, this means we can get into the real stuff. No, true, not until PSP memory cards. Oh my goodness. The entire life has been on this thing. Like it's just a grown up whatever. It's okay, put it back on. What is nice to wrap around that's gonna be a problem. This is nice. I like this. I'm getting trying to do you a favor, save you those dry clean and Bill's sun Tech tech support. This is nice right now. It's the style from Italy stuff. So I just getting nervously. It's weird. It doesn't hit with brain. Actually, I actually like laugh all you want. I actually I got this. Uh last year when when you went to Italy. No, no, no, I'm strong stars to start from the top again. Hello and welcome to Giant Bombs E. Three twenty fifteen coverage. No this, I'm sorry. This our twenty sixteen coverage of three twenty fifteen final segment. No one I got I've got the suit. We should do. I got this suit before I went on stage, that the Sony thing, and I had one that was custom made. That's because they were like, you could do this, like you know, by the way La style District you did, so I had a custom suit made. So look, was it sound in Italy? I mean probably the guys were from Italy, but that's I had a custom suit made. I thought it was really nice in Italy. And now you guys made fun of me right now. I haven't said a thing. Where's the brand right now? It's a nice jacket. Told you guys after the fact would make fun of me. There have been some things that have been sticking with me for the past year that I want to I want to ask about it real shit. Can we start the question that we did last year, which is who's your favorite Giant Bond person? Because I'd like to change my vote? Okay, go ahead. I've heard about this, by the way a long time. No, he's like, he's like I had to put Dan record on blast. No, not at all. I want to reach use jan right Dan record? You want it now? Yeah? What is wrong with you? He's just a reasonable person. That is where he's a positive force. Come on now. But of course no, he'll just pat your head like he with Brad last year. Okay, actually Brad had dope ass hair last year, so you can say whatever you want. It still does come over, yeah, and actually he does. What are you doing to come over here? All? Screw it over? No? No, alright, there's enough. Yeah it me. You're a skinny guy. Dave's stop trying to put your footness. But I see what you're doing. All right, he's doing this, he's doing this daddy thing right now. Okay, there's been some hot stuff on this caption this year. I have to say this. Okay, there was a lot of Cereal talk last year, and I blawful crisp Son. It can't Yeah, no, definitely yes. But the off brand series, the thing's been haunting me. Why what the fuck happened that you guys came in here talking about Cereal? What I'm trying to reconstruct, like walk it back and figure out what happened that night that everyone came in going like and then and then for me about VR So, I was like, let's sorry about Cereal, and then I said the moment of weakness and doubled down on attacking him. Making bring up cereal and then it went on Canada's kind of not hurt me very deeply about the organic cereal I'm getting gon Afford cereal in Canada, exactly that off brand shit Canadian cereal comes in a bag. Doesn't see it, so I'm all flip it up then, since apparently cereals like a bad issue can fix your mic again. Whatever, Okay, I hate this steak? How about this? How was this? What is your guys favorite candy? Candy? Starvers Starvers starverst alright, hold on red paint with the best flavor. What's your number? You like? Totally disappointed you orange? But are serious? Okay? Color flavor of Starburst? What it's my favorite color? Favorite flavor? If you got a desert isline, it's orange double favorite colored, favorite flavor. No, I can hear your your weakness in your voice. Was actually not you like red? Everyone? No, you don't, do you kid? Star Wars ship after the game gets shut down, John, I think you will get well it to everyone else out there, just just acknowledge we've lost a step or two in the year. It's true. Oh yeah, no, that's I feel like we're weaker at least fatter. It's been a long year lost actually a lot of weight. Look good you lost. So when I moved to LA in two thousand and nine, it was two hundred ninety pounds and right now I am two hund and thirty five pounds. Nice, thanks you guys. Thanks, that's great. I have no idea how I've lost that weight. He didn't try, it just happened. Yeah, so lost some people. No, I just went to this. No, I was waving no, no, feed the quad right now? Know what? I want to watch this feud? How do you spell it? Probably so alright? In real life? My doctor was like, some people quick doing are stressed and eat and get fat, and you apparently don't eat at all. So thank you all to the claps. Awkward, I mean hopefully I will be okay, hopefully Yeah, are you eating it? You should probably eat? Where is my beer? You guys? I think we think this problem right here, it's coming out, okay, beer is coming all right? Well, how many calories today? No? I don't, Adam just trying to give me, give me all right, right, there's like a random left over drink. Oh that sounds terrible. That's uh. I drank that earlier. That's just let water down ice. There you go. That's that doesn't have the happy juice in it. You need some of the happy juice. No, that's an end. That's all happy juice. Whatever. It's on the way. Okay, I'm like it noted. This happened last year too. We ran out of beer during our set last year. Weird, you quietly under by, Yeah, yeah, it's for us, or it's did more people show up than you think? And and then it's like, oh shit, okay, we're gonna make something happen. It's weird that keeps happening again again you don't adjust. I think that's strange. Well, what are you gonna do? Right, It's almost like they don't give us the budget. And then the end we say, fuck it, we're going over anyway. Now you're talking with our pants on. Yeah, so you're here showing video games. We have a game here that's the Killer Killer. You've seen the lines, No, I saw, I saw people want people want the T shirt, video ball, video ball, right, you know we're not showing the video ball. That's why I'm Rogers is showing video balls. Sucks more controllers on a Mac one. Okay, no, I don't. It's best on a platform you're not chipping on. That's why. Thank you feeling than you there? All right, we are like an openers. We kind of need my keys. No we have let's tweet out his keys. We can't take you can't take keys. Car. I don't think I don't think he owns a car. You don't think he owns a car. Crowds like I'd like a bear too. Alright, this is out here, see shadow lords. It's more yes what thatunds? Cool? Gentlemen, very excited about show here? No? No, I'm okay. Okay, we're saft launching in New Zealand than going worldwide. Then we're rescinding again, punkering punkering, and then old wide. At what point do we vote off? He's kicking me off the couch. No, Adam is still off the couch. Oh okay, Adam has been made to me. It only like one in your performance tonight. Oh my goodness, I mean just right now on the couch. You haven't said, do I honestly have you? Guys can start me. I don't want to hug the attention, the stars and can show man. Adam's mad at me. No, no, queen clearest beef. Right now, let's clear the beef. Squash the beefd dan Yer beef. Actually, we should do this, We should do this? Should we do this in a cipher? What does that mean? It means you guys have to rhyme? What am I? Am? I doing this wrong? Sorry? This is your's fucked up too. Don't touch my ear? This one's like, don't touch my ears? I don't. I got you? Everyone tuned into no, Yes, it's really good stuff. All right? Are you guys gonna settle your beef over a cipher? No? What hot hot sixteen each? Ye? And what does any of us mean? Okay? This means you have to run against each other? Oh I can't do that really, but even just even just spoken word? No, okay, give me like talking with couplets? All right, okay, all right? Word? Yeah, all right, adam, what's the problem with Dann Record? I like him a lot. I think he's a great guy that you'll be got two years in the row from your favorite giant mom personality. You can change your vote. No, then I revoted him smart takes so smart that fair enough, good job, fair enough, fair enough? So why was your favorite grant, Mom, why stop, it's not about me right now? Why why wouldn't it's not about you? Why would you see that all right at all times and all things. Why was there a problem right now with youth? We're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna sell this right now. What was the problem. Nothing. Adam won't see this. He showed me the tweet earlier. He said, he you apparently said the Sony press conferences balls, like it doesn't tweet it was balls. So Adam was like, look at this bullshit right now? Like, can you believe he said? This sounds like I actually thought the press conference was was awesome. I mean, like beyond just being your friend, right like I thought thought the press opinions about things that we do. It's fun, right. I think there was a reason to tweet. I wasn't going for here's the deal. The voice of a reason brought him. Yeah, never say that sentence again. Okay, that's where is the hyperbole? Though, there's no hyperbole. I just said I was disappointed. You listen, guy, who's you know what? I'm back and drawn into this. I'm not gonna do it. You're this fucking acus. What where are you going with this classic fourth wheel sitch right now, class fourth you asked me to come on, I can wait, don't remember, but all four of us were midway and we're making games. It was so far. Do you remember that ship? How good was that? It was awesome? Whatever? Alright, it was really fun answer entering Dan's initials in name into NFL Blitz and playing as him. It's so crazy. All right, I'm gonna step away. If you want to play Jake. Wait we did, we didn't set don't wait, we didn't wanted Also, no, no, I actually no, no, you got to this classic classic thing like you want to say, I am whatever, say what you want to say to him. You say what you want to say to him. I love you, I love you man. Yes, I want to go to talk about with you one day. Yeah, let's do that. Let's do it. PlayStations by console of choice? Okay, cool? Yeah, that's awesome. It was like that. Also, yeah, only ship, Oh my god, I was I was a three sixty guy last generation. I'm a PS four guy. I love both of them. I haven't said I just what you said. Nextbox one as I just bought that, but play one on. I don't really play that much. I play everything on PC actually mostly yeah. PS Master Race, No, I don't do that PC Master Race. That's what I just said. That's Greg Mother's podcast. I think. Yeah, I'll tell you that. Sorry later PC. I love you so greatly. Enjoy PlayStation products. You're good man, that's great. We appreciate you re going on. Hold on, no, I believe give me a second, stay drink from worst to best? What the PlayStation content you saw at the conference? From okay? Okay, okay, okay, got got more? Uh, dude, By the way, I like David Kid games. I thought Days Gone did not look like it was for me. I was disappointed with that. The Crash thing. Uh, if we're going worst to best, I liked the idea of playing through the Crash games again, but I was hoping for maybe maybe like the direction the segments taken. Yeah, exactly, all right, right, the VR actually, the VR stuf would be lower. The Batman Arkham thing and the Final Fantasy thing and stuff. I'm not sold on the shorter form VR stuff. Okay, we're getting the bigger stuff. I'm probably missing things. Horizon looks really good. Horizon looks super good. Be doing you're don't break the table, okay, sorry, Horizon looks great, and then God of War looks really really really good. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I think I covered most nice. But what just be like, I respect, I don't squash it. Yeah, exactly, what's right? Right, hugs that the physics of this, don't I'll bring it. I'll bring it together. We'll be okay. Right, we're gonna be okay, We're gonna be okay. Okay, don't touch myney, all right, good, alright, all right, thanks sounding right, glady fellas, Why you should still say all right, you've had enough. Come on, we're gone, We're done. We're done here agreeing with right. So when you guys worked with Dan and Midway, what was that like? He no, but I mean he started he was running bagels for for Saldavita Salavita. He's getting Sellavita bagels on slug festival here. When he started, he was on Termel's couch, sleeping a lot or something. Yeah. Yeah, tell the story how you get your job at Midway, because it's the best story I've ever heard. No, I don't want to. No, it's not a bad it's it's not bad at all. This is like you trumping against the fucking eye and getting in and now you're gonna champion, just like you're gonna do again. Motherfucker stoppable. He does a fucking job, don't. Yeah, you know whatever, Midway just a little bit stone else on this couch. Oh no, I'm gonna pinch it up. Okay, jeez, tell the story about middle I'm looking at myself right now. I'm like, tell the story about Midway. Not like that. The story about Midway. Easy, easy, what's the problem. Let's talk about autocract. I mean usually works pretty well, so good days. Actually this is a question I for you job. Okay, when you when you like autocract usually like words that you go from John, Yeah, like that's it sort of saves things and then correct things to use. If I'm like, you know, if I'm let's say, texting and not paying attention and usually look back and it'll have it'll have picked it up and gotten in right. Yeah. But like if you if if I use strangely yes, or use a lot of name or something like that, then it'll it'll it'll eventually save it, yeah, and learn it and then learn it. So like if something got autocrackted is something really obscure and strange. You're probably typing it pretty often. It probably means you're typing it pretty learning a learning dictionary and an algorithm that learns it's something. It's like, it's so weird. Yeah it doesn't. It's not the US. If you're confirming that you're coming to a meal or something like that, you said I heard this. No, yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. I would I would send a text to be like, I'm coming to dinner. I'm coming to the dinner tonight, like Kojima said, I'll keep coming like he did on his poster. That's what I would. That's probably what the word comes, but might have accidentally gotten into a text message sent and then I was like, I'm coming soon, thank you, right exactly, yes, dear, all right, fine, coming back at three two, Hello and welcome to Giant Bombs twenty sixteen E three coverage. We are here. Why did you make that story come out? We're just talking about all correct and how strange the function it is. Precisely. I was talking about how when you're on the I phone tape, OMW it says I'm my wig bang I hate it. Yeah, that's where I was going. I don't. Then you start talking about all this other ships. No, I didn't. Adam was putting things. It was eventually going to get to a bad story. He is the bad story. I'm sorry. This randomly came up in a text message. And sometimes other people grab your phone and send texts. It all happens to the worst time. I took precautions. Speaking of this phony security phone, Pever, we all put in a bag the trust phone and put nobody's taking it. No, I why are you? Those are thes that suppressed them. No, I'm doing my my Simba growl simbo when we're here Disney too long, shut up, guys, anything I would. I am all you guys sighing Simba grawl. So John hath things been going? Things are greg the track. It's not adding value right now. Yeah, I know. Let me tell you handle this question for you. Yeah. Here's the thing about job Vinyaki. Okay, but I love them so much. Listen, everyone face a little adversity in their life. Absolutely. How many people face adversity in front of a million people? Not many? Most people get up ray Masterbate go to work, has to get people yelling at him on Twitter, yelling atim on Facebook, like mad at him, like he got this game canceled, and Yaki loved this game. He breathed this game. Everyone's hat saying hey, how is this how yak? It's your No, it's not your fault. I love you, thank you. You're my best friends in the whole world. And guess what's happening next. Now I'm listening, I'm like, I'm so nervous, but at the same time, like, what's happening. You're gonna roll up and you're gonna can we talk the cameras from it? Bottom line, this kid's gonna be all right exactly, and we're gonna tangle. That's what I'm fucking talking about. I just want some backup right now. I'm so scared. What's my name? Thank you? What's my name? Day? Lazy at him? J Jay singles not for me, no whit guy, I'll give you whatever the fuck you want. That was amazing. Thank you so much, look like smile, yeah, bring this in. Say crime Craft two you had to you know what, like they ruined me. I used to be nice. All right, there's a lot of things you can say. We did this vinny. We guess some assistants over here. No, it's not for him and I just broke it. No, no, don't break it. Those are probably expensive. They're not hi Adam Lands cash bandick? Who coming? I can't help you with the send that text message. There's times these hands. All right, what do you pose? E three? We should do? Uh? Should the next chapter look like? Next chapter? Next chapter? I pazz three is stupid? Thank you, I'm calling it's by the way, it's like the most fucking paper tiger shit of all time coming from Drake. Hey, three days year, I'm gonna be positive, and now this is my brand. Fuck yourself. You're the most dour fuck I've seen my whole life, and you're gonna get positive three days a year and get down on me for saying shit, fuck you. That's what I think. That's if you could relay that down the chain, that information. Okay, all right, because I guarantee you next time I see that motherfucker, he's gonna make fun of me. It's like he's ninety three. I don't be positive. Fuck him? Fuck him? Fuck him. That's funny. It's like it's like like I like fast forward, right, now it's like we canna have Larry and he's like that was the best part of the John Bomb cast when you were like fuck him. I don't remember that at all. No, I know, are you gonna trying to do a harmony? You hit the seas, I'll hit the dem m. You know what we can do? Saw John Drake? What are you doing right now? Do do you know that whole that's boys to men? Alright? I ask you. I think you're thinking a little trim the little trim. Oh, what a great beame for a group. Also, yeah, trim, Hey, we're case you don't tuck clear, we're into the ladies. No, Tigre and Bunny, the two ladies of the trim. Yeah, no, thanks, We start this again. Spit it up, spit up the it was this podcaster stream, Yeah, up the machine. Hello. Welcome to Giant Bombs twenty sixteen coverage of E three twenty sixteen. I'm Jeff Gersman. We're here at giant bomb dot com slash chat engaging with the Internet at large. I have some guests, some luminaries from the video game business. Using the hashtag hand signal out there. That's how you can tell he's serious about getting viral. We gotta do. Let's hit him with the farms. Camera camera two please ready you him? You got the cross to the cross? Oh content, wait like a hashtag? Come into this. I'm into this. I'm into this. This is terrible. This we'll make a new one minnie three two one content, What are you doing right now? That's like yes, five shows, thank you right three two one content tent is a reason answer there it is, yeah, yeah, no, and here we are show would you do with Jeff? Please make it a thing, man, just do it? Two one content y three two yeah Midway story, Yeah, tell how you tell her how you got the job, because it's actually a great, uplifting story. It is pretty good. Tell how you got the job of Midway. It just worked really hard, and that's sun tell us. It's a great story. It's uplifting. There's no downside telling the story. It's an amazing story. If I worked half as hard at anything I did in my life as you did it getting that job, I wouldn't be sitting here right now. Well, yeah, by the way, you're like a fucking CEO many alright, by the way, this is not distracted by anyone. What is the story you guys want me to tell right now? Call email? The hundred times have you got in there? And then and then he gave you the business, and he fought through the adversity an intern, and then you got the job. This is true and well like, okay, I guess you're gonna let cheat down move on. Okay, So basically real quick. I uh, I begged for an internship. But how'd you do it? You called right? I called Mark Tramel. Did you call the central switch and you got his? Yep? I did, And I called him by the way, I should like, I should take my glasses off. I called him twenty six times in the phone, twenty six What happened on the twenty seventh time? I called the cops? Yeah, exactly, this guy is this guy calling me all the time? Actually heard the song about it. This is a sensitive thing. I know you guys. I think this is great. People want to hear it. This is eight because there's a billion motherfuckers watching this right now. They want to make games for a living. They want to do what you're doing. They don't know how, they don't know what it takes. They don't know what the cost is. They don't know what the price you paid to get where you are right now. So let's tell him, show him your scars. Yeah, man, I was an assistant manager in our kid and I really wanted to work I in a video game. Teach them up. I called people a million times and then they finally answered, and then a dude brought me in and he was like, oh, are you a programmer? Are you an artist? Like? No, no, And he's like, oh, it doesn't matter what you want because Mark Tamilt says that you've called him a million times and you're a great guy. So I guess you're hired. And so then I just worked there. That's right, next week on them up at show Brown Effort. How long did that take? He was like four months? Right, Yeah, I mean I really try hard. Every day you rese out to every was this whole thing? Yeah, you know what? I wish it on the steps, I mean right now? Ed No, I like the voice the voice over? Who was that? Also? I'm just trying to figure it out. I don't know. I was just scared. No, I just made one whatever, all right, So we're not talking about yeah all right, so sorry broken he'll not make sense anyway. So after getting into Midway as like an intern, how does that parlay into like like with no with no experience with like not a programmer, not an artist. I think there are a lot of people out there that feel like that they don't have these like technical skills, I know, like like I fucking don't uh and like how do you how did you parlay that into like an actual gig, Like I just and what did you did? You just like look at someone and go like, I got to pick up what that guy's doing, because that's something I can do. Like what's yeah, I mean, like anything, anything and everything that they asked me to do, I did. And so whether that was like taking notes and meetings or picking up daunts and bagels for Friday meetings like I mean you guys know, or picking up dry to babysitting like pets on weekends, like to being a videographer and all those things sound completely non related to making a video game, but at the time, what I was learning is this is what a producer is in video games, and it's basically someone that allows programmers, artists, animators, I mean everyone to focus and do their job and not have to be boiled down by anything at all, but keep them on track kind of at any cost. Yeah. Yeah, and I don't know, I guess, like I mean, both of you guys came in and both of you guys like my best friends and older brothers as all you guys know. And so when I met them, it was actually a lot of fun because I finally since they came in after personal Whose fucking bone? It's gone off silent right now? Hey, I'm just about we're about to break through it. Have a real moment before no one makes fun of me anymore. And here's my step counter saying I haven't walked enough today. Okay, So girl, here's the thing. Damn I think listen. I love you guys more than anything else. You got just such dickheads, so I can't believe I agreed. So when they came in, So you had been there when they came in, So were they like the new guys? And you were like, man, fuck these guys, these guys are dicks. No, not at all. No, I wasn't him, You were not at all. No. No, Matt Foodie who was now the dude running Minecraft, right, Matt was at the time running And no, I don't think he'd never admit that I not. But yeah, like Matt was like, this guy is also slightly overweight and kind of funny and and and great video games, like you guys would get along very well. And so Matt was like literally like you're the tubby guys hang out. That sounds like he was like free screening us for being overweight. I don't I didn't feel maybe probably oh gay right anyway, how much did you wait when you have to midway dude him? Oh you weighed as felt two h six. I remember the day you walked in. He was cut and no, I want this guy on my team and he'll never be friends with anyway. So that was like yeah, and so like over time, I just basically like they were like, look, uh, you're we're going to design or production first and then design and then strategy. Small. I can't see it. I don't know he's doing it, just pointing out the phone number on something the sorry friend. And so then long story short, like, uh, I just you know, I was I was lucky enough to be groomed by some great people like mentor by some great people, and these guys were my friends throughout the entire thing. And so now so we do this entire thing. You were you were in there, So you were in there getting groomed by some of the greats of you know, of game making at the time. Let's say some people have been there. Some of the people who've been there while okay, well in Lang's eyes and being there a while like for me like idolize as a kid like so it was there was there at any point after these guys came in and you were friends with him and empollyee side and going hanging out with these guys they're dragging you down. Yes, no, we were the news, We were the no one like guys. Oh yeah, well said all that, but it was like there's still a lot to learn from these people. Like just but these guys were like, this was growing up. I mean, this entire thing has always been about growing up. Like I feel like I've I've grown up and and sorry, that's frick shit. I mean no, I would think I don't actually even think that's like it was a real fucking phone calls, like when we like, like, what kind of phone do you have? Hell on? Hold on you have Sony Ericsson weird ring that no one's ever heard before. Hello, this is John Minaki. This is uh Sean Layden actually crash bandicoot. Hey, my favorite. What are you wearing? It's not just a US? Who is this? Adam? What? Who's who's calling? You? Don't don't aska's name? What's your name? I don't don't know if I'm really going to put that for If you're don't hang up on him. If you don't want to put your name in the streets yourself, boom, you're gonna do. You're a good guy. The thanks anyway. I hope you have a nice evening. Hey, you didn't want to say your name. You're gonna have fun with you. He hung up with me. That's right there, you go. What the fuck is going on? We're taking calls live on the street. No, we're not. What is your phone? Live on stream? Okay, you gotta call in stream Jav's next chapter. You call in right now. Career, career, the internet. You want to know we're next Jav's next chapter. Don't call give us a call at nine three, don't know. We have got we got thirty okay, playing this the entire time. No, what are we calling with? He doesn't even have a dial pad. That was like, you're just going like this. That's how you turn on. You can look at it. You got a burner? Fuck? What is this? You should answer that? Seven to seven? Yeah, you should probably answer it. Yeah, answer speaking speak. You've got this bay answer another call? Oh, put merge the calls. That's really fun with their heads and the call. I don't know, just like an old person's phone should be okay, uh, call in up on them. I'm so happy. I'm so fucking happy. Right now, answer answer speaker. It's a fucking yeah. I guess Hi, what's up? Man? Hey, put it on a speaker and try to hold it on your microphone side. I don't tell the folks at home, can you. Chef's a smart one here. I hope that it's true. Hold on what SEC? What SEC? What SEC? We got you? I think I don't know. I might have want to get this linked up with it. First thousand people call at the same time. Wouldn't be like, I don't know what it'd like, David would do? What happens in a thousand people call you? It's really weird. It's also by the way, heay, So I put my phone on me so I took some notes earlier. Okay, all right, I wrote something this day in history? All right, this day in history, Amelia Earhart flew around the world. Really, it's facts day. Don't worry about it. On George Washington, how do you cross Potomac? My friend? You want else? I want to what else happened this day? Hello? Say it out loud? Hi, Hi, in a very bad moment of judgment, tweet my best friends. Unfortunately it was made you called out. I forgot about this history. A year? What happened exactly on this day of history? And the table? What's going on? Dude? In a moment, and I tweeted, that's all I'm talking? Have you ever traveled across the Potomac brail was invented? What's your name? I wrote down a bunch of things that happened. I might have treated your I'm sorry shirt and take the shirt off? All right, Joan? You want? You want to still here? So what should be Johnny V's next chapter? Yeah, let's hear about it. I want talk. I can't take anywhere else. Please turn on your radio. Thanks, thanks for the aspiring feedback. If you really right now trying to figure out my next car? Your name, if you can't say your name and a coherent just the first name. We don't need a full name. We're not fucking like the government. You want the full, gut accountable. All right, we have five miss calls. Oh no, we are live on stage. How did you do that? As imagined treat? Did you tweet us whatever? From your Someone's like, oh no, what at this is strange? Oh new message? Davel? Hi? John? Who's is this? Wait? That's a fucking your alarm? IM? So it? Check it with my girlfriend right now. She lives in London. Sorry, I'm Johnny. You need life alert? That that was oddly sweet. Hello. I love you. I'm glad you're here right now. All right? What's your name? This is all happening heaven? Yeah, okay, brother? What what what do you think JV's next chapter should be? I don't know. Maybe how not to give away phone numbers? We moved on, We moved on. Next, give it two more calls. I'm like, yeah, someone doesn't bring it in two calls for another four hours? And four hours it's all yeah, go what easy this time? Got it? Dave Lang? So, he says, Dave Lang, I want a job. Don't you're on the air? Hey? How you doing? I'm doing well? What's what do you think Jav's next chapter should be? My name? I didn't ask your name? I just asked you what the next chapter? We're done with names? Yeah, no, nobody wants to give their names or what are you wearing's been coaching for everywhere else. I don't know why Johnny can't find a place from there. Okay, all right, there we go. Well we'll reviews resume on Wednesday. Great, thank you for the suggestion, sir. Hello you're on the air. We've got that time burger. Just talk shop. Okay, your talking that. I think Johnny needs to go on the bitching this road. That's a great starter. Get a camera, you get you go in the state to state. I think you got I'm talking like this isn't working. That's a great idea. I thought it was a good idea, you know what. I thought it was a good idea. It was a good idea of poor execution. Still, he's still his idea is still coming out of Thank you, sir. Why do we do this while you're talking, Matt Rory, Why don't you take the suggestions off? Yeah, come on, give us the best. Maybe we have people send text messages out and then we take the best of it, and then and then we can bring up who in the world would contribute to if Johnny you did a kickstarter that's where he gets a Winnebago and he drives around the country talking the game developers. That's an and doing shows. I would kick in him fucking thousand dollars for that. Make I would too, I would too. I'm in top show down for two. What would we call the show? Uh kicking it with JV Johnny TV. I got we gotta start somewhere, you gotta start somewhere bad and then workshop this ship where do you think? Uh? Diners drive ins in Pound Town, you know, at Microsoft, Alex at nic Kendo, like not at the Grand Canyon by myself, and you can you developers and then have them on the show bad like drive around, dude, start a meth lab. That'd be great. That's a huge money. That's what happens. Here's here's here's what happens. Let me make before this idea, this is a strong idea. When you've ascended the way right now, and for the giant buss on here. It's really gonna be so nervous. Right, here's this guy. What's that dude? The rich guy? Name makes no? No? No, Like the rich guy makes the guys like I don't want to actually want to be fucking doing this and like makes him go and do all those things and a cover of boss collect who's that guy? All right, here's the thing, Okay, she's I'm exhausted, give me, give me a second. Who is who is the guy that makes the other guy on shaft? No? The guy, Yeah, the guy that makes the other guy he's a bad No. The one guy's like, I don't want to go jet packing, but I did go jet packing. What is that guy's name? Michael? What's his name? You know, the every day fucking name one in here knows? Let me sorry, What if we take when you're and you've ascended to the damn near pinnacle of the industry, Yeah, there's only still Rosenberg does not say it's the pinnacle. He says that things are still gonna be okay for me, know what I'm saying. But you're near the top. There's only so many jobs in the whole God darn world that are there, it's gonna it's gonna take a while to percolate and find it. So it's when a bayel can buy you that time. True. Yeah, I mean I would have loved to have had something to do like that when I was out of work. Instead, I sat on a couch and drank, which you know, hey, it has its positives, but yeah, to have something to be like, all right, I'm gonna do this and kind of clear my head while while we get paid, just chopping it up, entertain the people. Yeah, and I actually I think road trips are is just cool. So there's what we do. I guarantee what I guarantee you. I will kick one month with you. Really, I will go with you for one calendar month. Okay, I guarantee you do five days? All right, five days? I do a month, you do five days. I got a family, Oh well, got me there. I want to be around. That's the that's the difference. That's the difference. Okay, Wait, so here's the deal. Uh, you guys are actually saying if I can't find yeah, right, those heavy whatever. All right, let's everyone, it's a bad day, are you guys? The legs in for a month with you five days upon review, figured I'd be for five days five because I got a family. That would be cool though, just like to like roll around and it would be great, right it be? Where are you? What are you doing? You can want remotely? You can work remotely, Riker, No, no, you can work. You don't work. No Ker, only four games on the most right now, because this actually might be a thing, like would you also how launch the Kickstarter right fucking now? I guarantee you we got it going backstage Suzuki July through. I don't know what you'd have to film the whole thing for content for the side. I can't. I can't. I mean I may not have a job, and you get the kick start money. So the guys, no, I mean, whatever it is, let's just make it fun print money. It's true, dude, Patreon on top shop over here and you just getting drive through and no, no, no, here we go. We next started on me last alright, fine, sit next to me. Let's do it. We can set up a Kickstarter website. It's easy. You can do a weird space. If you never sounded older than you did when you said, we can start up by Kickstarter away site. What terrible? What? What the what? Do I take your face? Let's make a tumbler follow dragon. If you and I like so these guys at least got in like two jays. Would you be willing to do like a road trip. I guess we started mid July for a month. Well, I mean, I mean, I think I didn't figure it out right, but like originally I figured out. I've done a lot of lug working. No, let's plan out the entire things come in here. Yeah, we're getting in here. Let's start trying. As I was gonna do this, I was trying to pitch Max on this that me and Max should do this. Yeah, and then Max's Max. We of course, So I've got all the math. I know when a bagel math dog, I got you? Okay, God, no, no, winn a bagel man, not Winnebago math actually man. So anyway, I guess you and I are supposed to probably do this probably so I don't know. If we get the money, do it? Do you want to do it? I mean I would do it. Permission, Oh my god, permission, grown ass man. Hey, I work for a company. I've got a boss. I've got to get work for things that's that's that would probably work. I don't know really, yeah. I also when I start now with permission, right, yeah, I started out, that's yeah. I like to make sure it's on the level, you know, because you know why his real his reticence here, because you do more fucking periscope content, the giant bomb content out there. That's why here whatever, he's gonna be like an independent wrestler full time within the next six months anyway money, yeah, exactly, hashtag to local wrestlings organizations, and also meet with developers. Wait, John, yeah we can. Sorry now for this night, you know, like I got it signed for collect to wake up, so I said it for eleven o'clock. It's wait your post phone, I know it is. What it won't work, all right, So hera stand just a man, all of his imperfections. Really, I'm gonna do a fucking road trip if I get my job the whole time. And obviously, if you get a job, you fuck off the kickstarter, fuck the backers. Who cares. No, But it's like you. I'm just like dude, understanding of precisely how kickstarter works. My friends, there is there a slight climate change that is one percent in my favor right now. Fuck them, fuck them, long term ramifications be damned. We don't need to care. That's how you are right now. I can steal it. You're gonna be an idahol. You're gonna get the call. It's gonna be likede pick up. Wait, I've got a job. He's gonna fucking veer off the road to yours the airport. You're gonna leave the camera. I love you talking about your face. It's no good guy. All right? How much stream again do you say? I don't. I don't know how much. I mean, you'd have to talk to mister winnebego math over there if you want to know how much money it would Actually you know three things and three things only about Winnebagos. Okay, one, Oh my god, look at this stay on my face so worse. It's like this, like someone took that one of the shitty three D pins and try to draw on my face. Go on, three D pins like I bought it for my dad. He's like, this is a shit, ma, Like as you did the pink. Sorry, no, I don't know my hundred dollars. This is like one of those pens there's three colors of ink and you put them all out at once and draws three at the time, and you're like, man, this is nuts. I thought I was gonna be so great. It was just terrible. My father, I was like, I just went a hundred bucks and you bought a pen for one hundred dollars. When I was first, when I was first getting started, me and some like and some friends and then their hoodlum friends went to Las Vegas to go to see Yes, this is before you three started up, and we went out there and like this. You know dude Ryan McDonald, who you know worked for game Spot for a long time is now doing video production all the other stuff. Like he had some idiot with him that he brought and that dude like was in the airport and saw dude selling pens and spent almost all of the money. We were sixteen at the time, by the way, I spent almost all the money he brought on pens at the fucking airport. Okay, So budget item number one penens. Pens. You need a good pens three or otherwise I will the fuck is a three D pen? It's like kill brush Okay, okay, all right, like okay, yeah, harmonic music video. I don't know what else it could be, Probably that I know three things things. He's the day I'm fucking scared about. I'm a luck on number one. Lie. I'm fucking like Ricker and I are gonna be appreciated in a Winnebagos in this scenario, are you driving or do we have a higher driver or is that like a Kickstarter tier. Oh that's a great idea, Like if we had a certain level we have dedicated. I bet there's a giant bomb viewer out there right now. Who's got a class license? Who's Tobago D license? And what would be your driver? I don't think you need a special class A license to drive one, bego. I know three things about winn a bag recreational vehicle classic D. No wait no, he had the like I do know one because I did do a road trip. When I got hired of Midway, they said we're gonna pay for you really, so I got a Winnebago. I don't know why you can't you're a border No, I don't one. You can't do your shame in Mexico and a costco sewage dream. Not dump your sewage in a costco dream. I wouldn't say we got a ticket, how's your microphone? And also really good? Fine, literally taped your face? You're fine? Okay, So we got a freezing from the community. I wish I could like permit to Matt Kessler sabbatical, but I can't. That's outside of my ms man because that would be a great fourth man. Actually, no, I think it reports four Horsemen of apocalypse. Okay, could we not let him come and hang with us? No? Mean fucking records already nervous rais No, he's not. He'ay totally to get a program movie. No, Yeah, I think the dude wrote a bookbout anxiety and win a bago for six months of a great place for him to beat. That sounds fine. It'd be freaking out three days in with this dude. You kidding me? I I've never had a bad experience. I think the super strong give it time, give it time outside of here and him making me this of my career. It's a free country for now. All right, that's a real idea. I know three things about win a bag. Okay, Number one should we write this on the board right undneath the phone number number one nineties six point seven percent if your kickstarted budget needs to be reserved for gas. Two checks out two in the rental feed maximum one and a half turds a day. What the toilets? That's a lot and it seems like a high number for the person. Well, you can go to talk about I'm good, Jeff, Jeff fucking sleepy? Right now that Jeff, give me a tight shot on Jeff can pretty sleepy? Yeah, that's can we this the most boring podcastle I don't like Hi, why is it? It's actual phone? Right, it's a burner. It's no was sent in by Who's siding in? Jeff? You? No, no, no, no, no, don't have to burn Jeff? You remember who sent the burner in? We should give a shout out. You know, I don't have the name of the first whore sending in the burner I back in the office, but from the next giant by mail, give him a shout out. Yeah, absolutely, that's gonna happen. Battery though out of this phone, and I don't know. I think it went under my's under my chair the best what's a burner? Could you start to see the wires? Story? You watch the wire so that we can have a phone call. Happened halfway through it? Because you ever watch the wire? HBO special? Serious? Great? Serious? All right, you can explained burners or whatever. Yeah, no, it's it's important. Sometimes you need a phone. It's not your phone. You can use a Google voice make Dan away. He pulled that. I imagine that's a reaction from the chat. He's responding to the chat. They're like this, Yeah, he's watching. She's like, oh no, he's like one of these things dropping. Next thing. That's the points point seven in the ratings, ninety eight point seven six point seven. Sorry, I've got a bagel money. I have to game how many how many turns did you get today? And Winnebago? Who are you paying attention? I've never shipped in a Winnebago before, so first time. Right now, he's not ready. He's not ready for the kicks. No poop once a day in the morning, though, Is that what you're is that what you're asking? No, between the children are asking. Then that's a really weird thing to offer up. Just say sorry. I said he's a solicited Just throw that out there. That's strange, I find. Okay, then let me ask you, ask me what how many poops you have to day? I don't talk about things like that in public? Why did you ask me? I didn't ask you? You know he is an asshole. I heard you right, he's like, he's such a fucking asshole. Yeah, you are? How many poofs you have a day? That's weird. I thought we were best friends. We are best friends. But just say now Alas said it. Hey, you know what, Hello, I have a microphone. I love I love you when I forget. Oh you know I'm doing okay, speak better. You've been better, You're better, okay better, you've been better. We had ed boone on earlier. He alright, cool hold on mud butt to blood butt. Jesus great. Yeah, you gave that up. You lost your Yeah, okay, can let me fix that for you? Can I fix up for turn this phone off again? What happened in Dave Lanston cooligans on the phone to my blood But I can't stand it? Yeah, I know, calling in being lewd lead lead all right, yeah, okay, all right, yeah, let's get let's get fucking serious right now, I can ask you a question. Yeah, absolutely, of course you've interviewed me before, Yeah, yeah, and it was great. Yeah. So you've been in a situation like JV is now ye, where a sudden and unforeseen, dramatic shift in your career was thrust upon you. Yes, what was your process for finding out company and fucking rockets? Sure, something like that. Yeah, that's beers, thank you. I'm looking I mean so, like, so I went through a process of uh, having that happen and going and going like, well, we were very insular, so we didn't really have a good sense of what the outside world thought of anything we were doing. So I kind of came out of that going like, well, I have no idea how to get another job. I guess it's back to pumping gas or like there was actually actually was. Someone was like, you know, I could probably get your producer job at Capcom or something, and uh, and I was like, I guess maybe that would be worth looking into. I have no idea. I have no idea. Uh. And then word got out about what had happened, and word got out big and kind of very big. Christ gate was like a pre hashtag hashtag. Yeah, it was. It was a whole crazy thing. And so when that happened, there were a lot of people that kind of came out of the woodwork at that point and were like, hey, what are you doing next? What are you doing? And then you know, some of those offers were some of those those conversations were bad, but there were enough of them that I was like, you know what, I'm gonna land something like like I'll figure it out. Like it went from this transition of like, you know, literally sitting on my couch, not even in the spot where I normally sat, just sitting in some other spot in the couch, just weird other spot, drinking Like I went and got forties of the malt liquor and that's a different kind of drunk and sat there and just went I'm gonna yeah, yeah. Yeah. It was just like, well, I gonna to figure this out one of these days, but not today. And how were you? I mean, I was a homeowner and it was like this. You know, I didn't have like roots, you know, as I was single or whatever, but it was there was this feeling of just like, you know, what's gonna I'm eventually gonna have to come up with a way to get new money to keep a roof over my head, like literally, and so so it wasn't it wasn't necessarily fear. It was shocked because I'd been there eleven years and it was this feeling and it was this like I had this feeling of ownership over the brand that I thought that the people who did what they did did not have. So I was indignant in a way, and it was just like, fuck you man, I've been doing I did that site way longer than you did, Like how fuck. It wasn't like how dare they do this to me, but it was just like, like those people are not legit in any way. Fuck that. So I was a bit indignant about it for a little bit. And then by the time I would have had to start kind of like actually picking up the pieces and really figuring it out, you know, word got around what had happened and and kind of how it happened. Uh, and then yeah, like like it was it was a whirlwind of like the La Times was calling me trying to get me to like say like and they were on the take, right, they were on the take. They did it all the time, right, I'm like, no, that's literally not there was nothing. Actually, like what happened was fucking stupid, but like people were trying to blow it up into some big way crazier conspiracy that it was not, and like a Norwegian newspaper called my parents' house at three in the morning. It was fucking weird. So so the takeaway for you, So one thing for me, Sorry, I know it's gonna be a joke, but the one thing for me personally is that when I think back about everything that you went through and how you protected your family, that is something I care a lot about and I've tried to do as much as I can. Yeah, and I think they did a great job as a leader. And with what you've you've done and what you've built, well, thank you. And it's thank you for the like that story because and everything you've done, because it's something that haunts me. It's personally, yeah, no, it's yeah, it's every you go through, every feeling all at once. It's just like, was this my fault? Am I actually worthless? What value do I have to the world? All this other stuff, But like the thing you need to remember is that you've done things before this, like you have actual skills. I came out of that thing going like I have zero to offer, Like what did I do? I wrote about video games, like the thing that like literally the people that I was working for. You know, when when people will try to leave, and I'd be like, you know, we try to retain this person to be like a million college kids out there that want this job fuck all of yeah, And it was just like, Okay, well, I guess I'm fucking dogshit. Whereas you have like history and actual skills and like shipped products and all this other stuff and been on sea to press conferences and put smiles on faces and all this other stuff. So I appreciate you say that right now as we do this right but like I'm just one dude that's part of like a huge team. But there are other huge teams out there that probably need that one dude. But also at the same time, huge teams that need all the same great people that I represented to be a part of them. And that's the one thing that kills me, because you know, I can't protect everyone, You can't save everyone. Then that's the scary part. You get in that position, work to get like we're getting deep right now. Right you can see you like, I guess you're you know that, I mean whatever, like legs the head of a company like you, you go out and see to get projects to keep food on those fuckers tables. I just like just in a in a quick moment right there. Yeah, I just appreciate some some guidance or thing. So it's, uh, yeah, you will always want to protect everybody you know that you that you care about, that that you work with and all that other stuff. And you know, at some point you have to do what you can, uh and realize that, like they're always going to be limits to that. And at some point, you know, kind of people, kind of people have to make their own decisions at some point too. You you literally cannot save everyone. I tried. I found a lot of people jobs outside of that organization after the fact. Yeah, and uh, I mean this is like a family, right, I mean, this is this is why I loved and got involved with what you guys are doing. Yeah, yeah, after the fact. So and it's uh yeah it is. It is fucking crazy. But and yeah you are going through the craziest time, okay, brother, But yeah, I hope so of course we all know that. Yeah, we got some big news for you. What's that I'm going to go on the road with damn record. I'm sorry, it's a breaking news. All Right has launched a kickstarter to help your road trip. It's not a real it's a draft, but still it's actually okay. I mean, like here, here's the thing probably know we're going for after that speech, you know, but still we're gonna get you on the road. It's progress. It's one step at a time. Yeah, picking up the next thing when you're making games again, asking about this community and like everybody like we just had that conversation and then that came through, right like, that's such a this is a fun thing. It's Pozzy three. So of course he's kind of contractually bound to do something exactly. I don't know why I did that. We're not we're not any on this though. There's a bunch of jinga blocks right there. Can we please do something for this money right now? Really, I'll play record for a thousand dollars. You were bragging about being a millionaire earlier. Do you want to play for hundred? Aren't you bragging your millionaire? That's what are you talking? About you were just bragging about Mia. Come over here, are you get yard again? This is this is my this is by the way, my road trip partner. It's not there. We gonna see you were bragging about being a millionaire earlier? When did that happen? When I was talking about the Jinga thing and how I beat you and he said, oh yeah, But then I woke up in the morning, I was still a millionaire. I drive a Prius. I'm driving twos literally just talking about I drive a two thousand and seven Prius. Can we take a step back, Can we take a step back and talk about Actually, Dave lang impersonation is, let's he's here impression will get ye didn't affect my life in anyway because I'm a millionaire. Will go everybody else impression that's me doing. Dave lags the pressure on me. Okay, her My name's Adam, for sure. I feel like they Adam and the krag impressions run together at some point. It's real simple. Sure, I'm moren't having to play Jenda for a thousand dollars. I'm not gonna put up on a thousand dollars. We're not even that's not my you know what better. Hey, hey, rody, okay, i'll bank will you what you've got my thousand thousand? No, you don't this thousand the way. I won't do that as part of like you don't like family, like no family. We're gonna be. We're gonna be. Bruce Mack only got the road with you. He's not gonna do that. You can't take a boat. Don't work if you had permission, but you don't permission. I gotta text with my girlfriend. Said you would drive to Winnebago. WHOA, all of a sudden got more interesting. Well will you come? I just started screaming. I don't know. All right, fine, I mean we can drive to London. And I love you like a fairy. Alright, big fairy. I'm not your I'm not I'm not doing any part. You better Jenga than me. I'll sleep to I just find it. Wait a minute, somehow I'm gonna get through this. It's tough. I think this is the best thing we could do. Not at all. It's a really bad idea. All right, Hey, guess what, Alex? Could you pull them off again? Please? Because I don't know why this keeps happening that I think we're officially past the Jenga now. Great Rice and Tim Shaffer came in here and played Jenga and like play to a point where they couldn't fucking make any more moves. The other night, it was stupid. The next is easier, the next make a move and then they lose. Yeah, sorry, I guess I thought like stale that it was. They agreed that it was a stalemate. They're like legal moves off the next guys, but then like you're gonna lose like in the middle of it. The number of moves to make because they're only going blocks, right, So that means if you were the player that if you count the number of blocks and if your player two in the tree, you can slide them on. You can do all kinds of magic stuff. I don't know how Jenga works. Microphone right here, know what happened? You said charges the game? Not ironically? Let's go please and three two one, All right, Welcome into Giant Bombs E three twenty sixteen coverage. We are wrapping it up and getting ready to send it off. We're gonna get some final thoughts now from our friends on the couch. Joining me Adam Boys for former EA Canada. Hi, how's it going. Good to meet you. Great, thanks for coming on. You have a great week. Yeah, it had a great week. Saw some stuff. Yeah, by the way, it was fucking great. Yeah. Game is so good. Yeah they put it's amazing. Yeah, it's just it looks so good. It looks so good, phenomenal. They let me in. That was like the first big win of like they're like, oh type and it was awesome. Really, that's fantastic. What was your game of the show? Because you introduce me John Vinyaki from Disney Interacting, Winnebago Games, Winnebago Corp. He's an RV salesman that we found outside and holy shit, the fucking flies. Yeah, okay, too many. Yeah, that was absolutely pretty good. That's pretty good. That's pretty good. It was pretty good. All right, it's pretty good. What's your game of the show? Killer Instinct? Dog It's Killer Instinct. Which season are you on? I thought don't for all games that are live operational games. That there's a lot of great things. Something from Microsoft True and there's a great studio from my hometown, another realm great studio out actually True True Stories. You know, you can't choose are you gonna choose them? I what I gae is a great development studio. Of course Another Realm has some amazing things. But I mean, I think that the things that are happening. What's the best fucking game you saw? Spit it out. It's fucking Killer Instinct. It's not I think the game I saw was a lot of future players. Were so many lines. There's some lines. I'll get you a shirt. Was feel okay? Yeah, oh, don't don't bluster. Don't bluster in the crowd. Looked awesome. Yeah, I mean that looked amazing. Yeah, uh, laying look, I get it like you're already okay, Ceo, you don't need a c I D with Killer Instinct. The next season is going to be amazing. Are you're announcing season four here on the couch? Yes? Fantastic? All right, I can laying run back more more quickly than that. I think the uh like Zelda looks awesome. I think Nintenna's about ready to throwing a big, massive uppercut to everybody with what they got going on with their new system and all their new games. So the one thing I mean, I get it like you're a sony guy played Nintendo with my kids all the time, right, never count Nintendo out like that was always the one thing that at Midway, like I don't think everyone ever has. It's like, no, it's like we used to say it Midway, Nintendo is the Rocky of video games. Like we used to say, there, there, You're a thunder of video everyone always Yeah. But I think I think, like we're gonna see some really great stuff for them. I mean, did you answer the question? I think so. He's trying to wrap the stream up because Dave Letting Iron Galaxy Industries, Heavy Industries, studios. I didn't see much, but I will say this, I was blown away. That Got a War demo? Yeah, Got a War demo is the one thing I saw that curled my toes back. That thing like the change the game now it's third person action. Yeah, but what it like, I'm going like, is it like this or like that? It's both you hit it then you flip it. I mean you and everyone knows that you hit it, then you flip it. That's how the toes work. I don't know what this is, fucking one on one toe curling. Yeah. Yeah, that was a cool looking demo. It's the single coolest thing I've seen. So there you go, simply that's how you can start a fucking question. Also, sorry, man, I just want I always Spider Man looked awesome too. You don't let himn't let him get away with it. He's chilling. No I'm not. No, no, no, great Adam calling me on the phone. How like when was that like your third yesterday after the press conference? No? No, no, like you could call me on the phone, like, I think that Sony needs a Batman Arkhamsam exclusive to PlayStation. And there was like the whole like change that had happened in that Marvel and I was like, I know all the new people they're yeah, they're like you know Jay and Mike Jones and those guys not that one j Yeah, we're like yeah. Like I was like, this guys are totally cool and mean. John Drake hustled for like a year and a half. Yeah, and like that was actually like the ethos of that like and ended up working out. Ye. So actually I think that game looks amazing too. Yeah, good, all right, cool, Okay do you see that yeah wash conference? You know it's okay, it's I think it. I think it looks good. But like it's hard to get that out of a trailer, right, Like, I'm not a big superhero guy, so it's not like an automatic cell yeah, uh huh, And no, no, it's you know, I those Spider Man games back when those games really really good and the swinging and open world stuff, we're like incredible. Yeah, so I think tapping back into that is pretty smart. So I agree. I also agree that the strategy of I hope there's I hope there's more to it, like as we see it, you know, like because those games were great back then, I think, like to make a great superhero game now, I think you have to have like more to it. So that's that's kind of I'm looking at it going like there's stuff here. I hope that it has like that it goes places. I think Insomniac is in the top three for sure developers in the entire world, and they're making like a thousand games. I saw like two VR games from them today that we're both pretty cool. So if you're trying to like be like, well, like where's your focus, I actually think that they're I think they're gonna make something amazing. That's not where I'm at. Yeah, I literally games from them, and I think are pretty good. I think that Yeah, that's the right place to oculus touch stuff. Spell casting thing is really fun. Yeah, they got they got stuff in the work. I get defensive because, like you know, obviously we incubated that whole thing to happen, So I think it's gonna be amazing. Well good, I'm excited, excite for good? What about you do have thing? Have you played with? HoloLens said my answers. Still got a war. I have to go to the bathroom, queen the stream. Yeah, we show down. We are gonna take a break and come back to say good night for real. Z's wait, no, no, Jena, No, you're not fronting. Why not? You've knowed? Ja gets yer. Listen. You can't take so many money, you dirt bag. That's John Drake money. That is money. All right, you're gonna make him have a worse wedding taking when taking Dan Ryker's money is the only way I can finish. Oh wow, I've heard about you. Yeah, can you do it? And all right, we're gonna let's do it and we'll be back to say our good nights after a brief break. You guys, thanks for coming thanks, Thanks Jeff, Jeff Christ Yeah, I love you all. Never thought we could outdo it. We love you all too. You're a good man. Well that's rude, JV you by goodbye, Hello, and welcome back. Which wanted to send it off here before we literally start packing up this room. Uh, we've got to send this chair. This chair is wet, this mic this, this microphone is wet. This microphone is wet. No, this it was damp when we started. I don't know, I don't know. Maybe it's wet now this. Yeah, I'm not really I'm not really sure what happened here. There's fluids in this hotel. There's like ghosts, fluids, just the specters of horrible. Well, the text pone auticle just like everywhere. Man, it's bad. It's just bad. I didn't know y'all were into the water sports. Okay, yeah, no it's true. We're just all the way in. Yeah. No, all right, we're shut all these cameras so we can lay out the tarps and really get going. Yeah. I want I want to thank Rick and his team for holding it down. On the side. I want to thank she's not in here, but I want to thank Olivia and her team for helping out with logistics and us of course, Drew and Jason over there. Alex for booking all these awesome guests that last seg but I had nothing to do with that. No, thank you for literally that is the one segment I booked. Yep, Brad, Dan and Austin for booking awesome appointents. Running around the show floor kept us fed. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Brad, Brad Lantern, all our moderate you know. Yeah, Matt Rory, Hey, Matt, come on up here. Yeah, just Matt Rory, come on, get us a brief glimpse playing magic. That's fine. You show the beautiful face for a second. Just smile for the people. How are Brad Lunch and our mons? Brad great child? Yeah, thanks to moods for Yeah, thanks everybody, bank people for being shitty sometimes sometimes people are shitty. Sometimes people sometimes I'm shitty. I've been banned from things that happens. Matt Rory has been running around all of the la trying to keep us fed and keep the alcohol flowing. Thank you very much, Matty for holding the down. Jeff, you fucking killed it, he did real well. Yeah, host Master, that's what was one of the best ones. I think I felt real good about some of the segments. Uh, right up until the end there, Yeah right here, food was better this year better better? Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Austin going over the menu and making sure that the food situation. I kind of want to talk to you about that. But the food situation, not liking the food. It's been like, what a year it's been year? Did I mess up the food? I guess, Yeah, it's you're up for I guess we have to kind of do your one year. We decided to start doing evs as a group that's live on the internet. There's a lot of people, you know, there are people in the room. Yeah, no, oh, this is an intervention. Yeah, I've been doing too good a job. I think that's one way of putting it job. So next week is my last week at John Palm. Yeah, I'm moving on to other projects. I can't talk about what it is. It will be out tomorrow and today later today, in fact, it is now just halfter midnight, but right now I can't. It is an exciting project. Yeah, and so yeah, the details of it will actually be announced. It's not just the Yeah, where I'm ending up. I'm still I'll still be in New York. I'll still come through fucking like. This is the most bittersweet, weird thing for me in the world. Because this has been I love you too, were really has been. I've learned so much like I I have other other places will let me bring people like Johnny and Adam and laying on right and just get No, it's not. I don't think it is. It is like a rare thing. I think unless my luck has just been bad, like being a place where it really feels like it's like us against the world, like every week it's like sometimes that's like, huh, I wish we had more resources. I wish this boat didn't feel like we were going up on some rocks, but like it also felt like a boat that if it did hit the rocks, like everyone would jump out and try to save everybody else, like unless the rocks are real bad, in which case you got to find the stuffing with the rocks so bad that everyone's guy to just friend for themselves. So I jumped off the enemy boat, and now you're steering that into the rocks. The enemy boat. It's another boat. No, it's the enemy boat. We I'm so happy for you. Thank you so much. Yeah, I'll talk about it more in the future. Obviously, next week I'm the next Beast cast. I'll be able to talk a little bit more and yeah, and then then I guess this similar message of not saying anything is actually on this week. It's really weird. So we recorded that like six hours ago. Yeah, weird. And then the bargoes are weird bear Cave or something. I should go to the bear Cave? Where's Pat Bear? New York? Okay, I'm sure somebody on YouTube is streaming it now, breaking embargo there, Yeah, exactly. They give it to these influencers and they're just out there trying my best on my own. That's not all right, that's the last guy we has did that. Well, he's making YouTube goes well for you. Right, how's the twelve dollars going? It's find a house on YouTube money? Yeah? Nice? But really, like, seriously, the support I've gotten here, I've learned so much. I've been part of a thing that is like a family, except that like you're not. You don't get to choose families, and you don't get to like call them out on their bullshit. Sometimes you don't get to like improve as a group. In my experience of family anyway, that is not the case. Here. This is the fast and furious definition of family. And thanks to everybody who has supported me out in the in the community and everybody here in the room, like it's been I love you. Where can people Where can people find Austin Walker in this time of transition at Austin Underscore Walker on Twitter, the colchytech on foot. Yeah, you know, and subscribe. So yeah, well we'll have more. I'll also be around next week. We'll have to go out in like a bang. I don't even know what it will be yet, but it'll probably be like a live stream. I have to figure out a live stream. Yeah, it'll be like a live it'll be sayer Kings. Don't make any promises because I'll have to do that. At least you got that total Warhammer thing out of the way, So that was that was like, man, we gotta get that thing off the books while that dude is still here, because otherwise they can uh. And yeah, you know, obviously, you know we'll have some more things to say along these lines here down the road. We're going to kind of put our heads together and uh, you know, before we kind of get a position open to start to figuring out what wouldn't want to do in New York, because I don't think it could just be YouTube in New York from from YouTube in New York, YouTube in New York because YouTube in New York. Yeah, we don't have the power stream to YouTube in New York. Yeah, definitely, so you know it's blocked in the router, Yeah pretty much. Yeah, Rick, we'll talk about that. Yeah, I think, yeah, I think we need we need a third in New York. You know, we'll get together and it's third yeah, or a woman. Yeah, yeah, we don't know who will fill that. Rotating I've looked at a lot of resumes last year. Uh, we'll look at a lot more at some point here. Yeah, uh and uh figure out who you knew rotating chairs. Yeah, it's the rotating chair. Yeah. Uh yeah. I think it's been awesome. It's been so good. Yeah uh so yeah, not goodbye's let's see you later, right, definitely. I still live in New York. I'm just gonna keep coming. That's okay, that's coaching, yeah right, okay, yeah, no, but you know, my my hope with all of this, you know, as we kind of expand and do the things that we do. All I ever really want, for all I ever want for any of you and anyone that that comes through guests and everything. I just I hope that they are better going out than they were coming in. Uh. And I never know. I can't because I wouldn't know. It's too late. Came in, came in good, and now he's I think he came over here and gave me a big hug and told me he loved me and that he would do it. You would drop bombs on people for me if I believe in that, which is excessive. But yeah, but I only will remember any of that, so yes, uh, but yeah, I think that's gonna that's just gonna do it for this E three. Yeah, that's gonna do it for E three. It's a crazy fucking show. This year changes every year. Yeah, right, a lot of big announcements, A lot of big announcement. That's next year, we'll do all the announcements up front. We'll hold a press conference, yeah, but offsite, off site. Yeah, we're not going to talk to the EESA about this present. They don't get no. Uh. And yeah, I think lastly, thanks everybody for watching. Yeah, obviously it's fun to do it here, but if it's not going out to you guys, uh, we'd probably maybe still do it. I don't know. That's this is all I This is literally all I know. So yeah, I mean, if if the Internet was down but there was still any three happening, I got yeah, yeah, it could be happy to Yeah, I'll call you up and be like, can you believe that some bullshit spider Man said Facebook has streaming now, so see on Facebook. Thanks everybody for hanging out and thanks everyone for watching from home. Uh. It is. It is so much fun to do this show and uh, you know, with with the team that we have, just being able to put all this fucking crazy shit together and mix the actual serious stuff with the stuff that is maybe slightly less serious.
