Yeah, it's the Internet. You're busy. Let's do this. I'm Jeff
grab I right over on GamesBeat dot com. I do grub snacks here over
on Giant Bomb. It's a contributor. It is a show where we talk
about video games. It is novel. I understand that to be the case.
It's a it's a one man show. It's the it's a great spectacular
where I talk too fast and say a lot of stuff. We're gonna do
it again today. Everybody looking forward to getting your questions here, which you
could send in of course, as always by hitting the ask a Question button
the top of the page. So people say, hey, where is that
button on mobile? I think if you use like Chrome, you can hit
the show desktop page and then you can get that button. I don't know
if that works. Maybe that works. I've been thinking about it and I
think that might work. Otherwise, just get on, just pull over,
get out the laptop, and just ask the question. From the side of
the road. What are you doing texting and driving? Okay, I have
a lot to go over today. Nothing, you know. Mostly it's like
talking about some of like the rumors that have broke this this past week and
stuff like that, going over some of those things, kind of giving my
perspective on them, letting them know like what it means from some for some
of the stuff I've said. Uh, I also want to go over like
twenty twenty two a little bit. Really, really, what we're doing now
is killing time until Metroid Dread gets here. That's what I'm doing. Uh.
Nintendo's still not sending us codes so well they are, but after the
game's like come out, we have to wait until then. So Nintendo jail
still affecting old games beat uh and so I'm just like like everybody else,
I'm waiting to get my old lead. It's it's coming from game Stop and
I'm gonna get I'm gonna first thing to play on his Metroid Dread. I'm
really looking forward to that. So let's let's all just kill some time until
then. Uh, we'll you know, we'll try to like not think about,
you know, too much other stuff today and then next time, next
time we're loosen, loosen lucid. Next time we're loocid and like up and
looking around. Hopefully Metroid Dread will be ready to go. Okay, so
let's start. Let's start here and I'll get to your questions. After this
early section with all those news, I want to talk about Konami. Apparently
it's set to revive metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill getting back into games.
Well, this is something that we've you know, they've almost explicitly said,
but we didn't know that they were necessarily going to do Metal Gear,
Castlevania, Silent Hill. I will say that this if you look around and
at the world today, this makes a lot of sense. There are some
really clear indicators of why a company like Konami that was like, hey,
making games is expensive, it's risky. We're just gonna do mobile games,
and we're a few games here and there for PC and console soccer or whatever.
But we're gonna make mobile games and then we'll do our other businesses that
are like health clubs or pachinko or whatever. I'm sorry, I'm not actually
super familiar with Konami's other businesses. I know the jokes that everyone makes pachinko
and health clubs and all that stuff by understanding. My understanding though, is
that Konami does have a lot of businesses that were hit hard by the pandemic.
Pachinko specifically, I think that's something they've scaled back on. They also
make you know, other arcade attractions and other I think gambling machines. Basically,
though, the Konami has a series of business businesses that are not resilient
to the current pandemic and to future pandemics. And when they look around and
say, hey, what was resilient towards that? What would give us diversity
to protect to hedge us against a future where something like that happens again,
which seems likely based on the science of of you know, of you know,
populations moving closer to uh to you know, animals and stuff like that
in parts of the world, and pandemics are going to keep happening at least
that's you know, that's what I read in the newspaper. What do I
know? Uh, But you know, if this is something that could happen
again, you would want to make a bet to help, you know,
hedge against that. And one thing to do that is proper video games.
And so you know, Konami's not alone there. Konami's looking around saying,
hey, we can do this. So is Disney. That's why Disney has
John Drake out there making a million deals trying to get a bunch of like
Star Wars stuff to happen, and a bunch of Disney stuff that happened,
trying to make sure that Disney has a lot of video games in production in
the works, so that they can feel good about having not just a finger
in that pie, but like actually actively being a part of the video game
space in a way that they've continuously failed to do. And their timing with
the last time where they were like sort of pulling back from games was really
it was unfortunate because for Disney, they were like, let's pull out.
The pandemic happens, and now they have their amusement theme parks, they have
movies, all these things that were also affected by the pandemic. So everyone
that is in that position is looking around and saying, hey, games seem
like a really, really good investment for dealing with something like that. Also,
there is the fact that if you're a Konami and you're looking around and
you're saying this is a safe bet, there's also reason to say it's also
a not just a safe bet, it's a smart bet. We made a
mistake by pulling back from games. Just look at Capcom and what did Capcom
do. Capcom is very successful right now, specifically because it focused on the
games that we're selling the best, and we're doing the best. We're not
getting a lot of MegaMan games right now, We're getting a lot of Monster
Hunter and Resonant Evil and uh. And that's that's exactly I think what Konami
is looking at, like, Hey, we have metal Gear castivating your Silent
Hill. Let's focus on those franchises that have sold first in the past or
that there's a lot of heat for, and we'll focus on those and the
ones that do the best will continue to get investment, and we'll just do
what Capcom is doing, but with RIP. So all this stuff makes a
ton of sense. As for as for who is making some of these games,
you know, I've I've heard the rumors about the Metal Gear being worked
on by like Virtuos I think is the name of the studio. I don't
know exactly. I've also I read the story of Jamatsu Gamatsu that said Kojima
Productions is working on Silent Hill, and I don't know if that's the case,
I don't know. I would be a little surprised because we know everyone
knows, you know, Kojima and Konami had a really bad falling out.
It went bad, It was not amicable, it was a bad situation.
So it just does not at first blush, it doesn't make a lot of
sense. So if Kojima is involved in a Silent Hill game in any way,
it would be my guests that it would be Sony Broker in a sort
of deal where Sony's like, hey, just come and get salt. We'll
give you an executive producer credit, so we could put your name on the
box. So and maybe you know, same thing with your metal gear.
Maybe all this stuff is kind of like working together, like something like where
he's just is gonna give his blessing, basically give a few pointers, and
then people could say Kojima was involved with these games, so that, you
know, you sort of quell that fan resistance to the idea of these games
getting made without Cogima. I don't know if that's happening, but that's the
likeliest scenario that I see. You know, does what does this mean for
the Microsoft deal? Though? The Microsoft deal that I've talked about before,
where Microsoft and Cojima are in talks, that's as much as I've ever said
has happened is that they are in talks to make a game together, and
the game is very early. No one really knows exactly what it is except
for it's going to use cloud infrastructure to be whatever. Like seriously, no
one really knows what the plan is beyond that, that deal is still going
ahead as far as I know, like they haven't. I don't know if
they've finalized the exact details, but as far as I know, I've heard
recently that it's still they're still talking. They're still talking the stuff through and
the plan seems to still be for everyone to go forward with this now.
You know, in the past, I've mentioned details like Microsoft hired Kim Swift,
who worked on Portal and she worked at Stadium. Most recently, Microsoft
brought in Kim Swift, and in my story on games Bat specifically said that
they hired her to do that, to come in and be someone to partner
with Cogima and make sure his game gets made. That's all still true.
That's all like still like they're putting the pieces in the place, which is
why I still think that game is very likely to happen. But then if
it does, when do we hear about it? I've said in the past
that the Game Awards make sense because of Jeff Keely and the relationship there between
him and Cojima. It still makes sense, but I think it's seeming less
likely just based on where the deal is at. Because keep in mind,
like, Okay, yeah, they might get a deal done between now and
then, but you get a deal done, do you just rush out and
say that that's what's happening, or do you try to get more like more
details locked into place about what it is and stuff before you or do you,
like, you know, you got a trailer ready, and does that
require a lot of asset production? Does that require you like a little bit
deeper into pre production before you announce it? Like you don't you could just
come out and say, hey, Xbox of Cojima are working together and that
does that's a big headline stor absolutely and maybe they maybe they decide to do
that. But I don't necessarily think it's a guaranteed thing where once that deal
is signed, the next day they're going to be out there telling us about
it. It could there could be some lag between the signatures happening, you
know, the final decisions saying hey, we are one going forward with this,
here's some money, go do it, and when we hear it publicly
so But as far as I know, that deal is still going forward,
and that deal would have nothing like a non compete clause or you know,
while the game might be exclusive Hide Hideokajima would not be locked exclusively to working
with Microsoft according to this deal as far as I know, and so that
would leave him open to take other work, say consulting on a Silent Hill
game. Again, I can't confirm that. I think it's unlikely. I
would say it's almost I would be very skeptical of the idea that Cojima Productions
is making a Silent Hill game. But again, there's nothing in the Microsoft
deal that would prevent him from from doing that, or prevent even the studio
from doing that. Trying to see if there's anything else I wanted to talk
about there, No, I don't think so. Okay, ed Boone is
going to be at DC Fandom and we've been trying to talk. We've been
talking here for a while about what's going on with Nether Realm, why we
haven't heard about its next game recently. And I came on the show and
I said, what I understand is happening is that there's a lot of uncertainty
about WB's future and IP ownership and DC ownership, and like Nether Realm's ownership
and where everyone might fall after all this stuff shakes loose, and would that
put put put Nether Realm in a situation where it is put a lot of
work into Injustice three and now they are with a company that would have to
decide whether it's worth it to get the Injustice in DC license, And so
because of that, Nether Realm wanted to focus on Mortal Mortal Kombat twelve instead,
and they were like, and they were going to head with that is
what I heard. I still think that's the case. But this, you
know, you see Ed Boone is going to be at h He's going to
be at this DC fandom. That makes me think, Ye, there's a
chance that we'll hear about Injustice three here, and I hope we do.
I want to make it clear, like I'm not like rooting against Injustice three.
I hope what is happening here is they found a way to make sure
that this all makes sense and the work that they've almost certainly put into Injustice
three is able to continue and go forward until they are able to release the
game, and you know, and everything's just fine. Maybe they figured that
out since since what I heard and today, that's possible. I do want
to say though before, like, because I haven't heard otherwise, maybe just
heads your you know, don't get your hopes up too high. If you
are an Injustice fan and say, hey, we are getting Injustice three one
hundred percent because Ed Boone is going to be there. Keep in mind that
the Injustice movie of the animated movie is coming out October nineteenth. DC fandom
happens on October sixteenth. Maybe Ed Boone is just coming to promote the movie.
That that seems also pretty likely. But at that time, who knows.
Maybe they're promoting the movie and ed Boon says, and we're working on
an Injustice thory. All that is possible, and I hope that's the case.
I wanted to talk about this last week and I forgot I put it
on Twitter. But let's talk about it a little bit here. Metroid Prime.
So in the past I said that Metroid Prime trilogy was pretty much done
and and you and Nintenda was just kind of waiting on it to figure out
a time to slot it in. H that was I conflated that with some
of what I had heard. I had heard from years Metroid Prime was in
the works, like a Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime like remake, really rerelease
was in the works for Switch since like twenty eighteen or twenty nineteen. H
And it turns out something was in the works, But it's just Metroid Prime
one, not the trilogy, and it's going to be maybe a little bit
more of a remake than we thought. I don't think. I'm like,
it's harder. So is it a remakeer or is it a remaster? I
don't know exactly. I would guess this is me guessing now that it would
be closer to a remaster than like a Blue Point style remake. It doesn't
make a lot of sense. Metroid Prime is already kind of perfect looking.
You don't need to do much to it, and really, because it looks
so good, and any relation of GameCube is in such a state that you
could do a lot to those games without having to remake them to make them
look like, oh, this is almost a remake. But either way,
the point is is that you know, hurt for years, something was happening
here turns out, you know, there was just mixed messaging, some crosswires.
It's it's much more likely this is just going to be much Metroid Prime
one, and it's going to come out in twenty twenty two to coincide with
the twentieth anniversary of Metroid Prime's release on the GameCube. So that makes sense,
right, Nintendo very much into that right now. That's been like a
marketing beat that they've gone back to over and over and over. If you
look at what's coming out, like, you know, this year, we
got Advanced Wars coming out on its twentieth anniversary, so there's just you know,
and it's you know, a remake of Advanced Wars one and two.
I think that Nintendo is just going back to that marketing thing because it's very
familiar. It knows how to do that, and it's going to do that
with Metroid Prime one next year. And then what happens to two and three.
There's a chance those get ported. There's something else could happen with them.
I still think that they've they've thought about putting those on the switch as
well, but they are going to wait until they get Metroid Prime one done
first. I believe that's happening at like Retro Studios is a little bit involved.
I think they've they're probably getting some other studios involved. Armature might be
working on at things like that. So uh yeah, Metroid Prime one is
what is going you know, this is something again they've worked on for a
while. Twenty twenty two. Oh, and that does bring me to twenty
twenty two. It seems like it's going to be a pretty good year.
So I kind of made a quick list here of games that I'm I think
you're kind of should likely come out next year and make a big splash.
The one I'm at least certain about is Breadth of the Wild too. But
yeah, twenty twenty two is shaping up to be really good, So let's
talk about it a little bit. In terms of like big early confirmed multi
platform releases. Elden Ring is out in January. We haven't heard much about
elder Ring in a while. I think they've done a few interviews from Software
has done a few interviews, but you know, they showed off fifteen ten
to fifteen minutes of gameplay to the press for games Com and people still haven't
seen that that gameplay, So like we're like waiting for Bandai Namco to start
really promoting this game. Nothing's really happening there. It does feel like Bandai
Namco a little bit is is dropping the ball on the marketing. Elden Rings
should maybe be the most promoted, biggest game in the old right now,
but it's it's it's kind of silent. And I know the fans are not
silent. I am well aware of that, but it does feel like this
has enough buzz to sort of break through into into the mainstream in a way
that you know, even no other from software game has up to this point.
But you know, bandog Namco stow some time. It's it's October.
I guess that gives you a little bit of time, but before January and
maybe they maybe they'll surprise me. Right now, it just feels like they
don't really know how to promote this game act, you know, successfully.
Let's see here, Okay, So let's talk about like what's coming from Nintendo.
Nintendo's Got Pokemon Legends, Archaius, Bayonetta three, Kirby and the Forgotten
Land, Splatoon three, Mario Plus Rabbits, Sparks of Hope, Metroid Prime
Remaster, and the Legends older Breath of the While two. I could have
forgotten something, but that list right there, that's like, that's a hefty
list for Nintendo to have all coming out next year. Legend, the Legend
of Zelda, Breath of the Wild two could could slip into twenty twenty three
pretty easily. Though. Even even still, though, if that does,
I think it's very likely that we get that Windwaker Twilight Princess Duology double pack
HD that they were you know, I think they were going to release that
last year. I think that was the plan, but that was when Breath
of the Wild two was coming a little bit sooner than they thought. If
Breath of the Wild two comes in twenty twenty three, I think the Zelda
thing that they have this year, they want to have a big Zelda thing
coming out, you know, at least once once per year. I think
it would be this Twilight Princess Windwaker hdev remaster that you know came on the
WU just ports that the switch and call it today. Let's see Xbox has
a Stalker two Heart of Chernobyl that's like a limit like a timed exclusive but
for a little bit. Then also Redfall Forts and Motorsport eight and Starfield.
Now, it's not a massive list for like first party exclusives for for Xbox.
Uh, it's gonna take Xbox until about twenty three to really hit it
stride with that stuff. We'll talk about that in a second, but I
will say that I think Microsoft should make some pretty big moves before the end
of June in terms of getting game pass games that are at least you know,
not exclusive, but getting game like day one game pass games before June,
because they have this huge budget and they're gonna want to spend some of
that budget. But's before the end of the fiscal year. And then Sony
has Horizon Forbidden West, Ghostwire, Tokyo, Seafood for Spoken, God of
War, Ragnarok, and Grand Turismos seven. Again, I might be forgetting
something, but also that's like another really half the list of like really heavy
hitters. So yeah, I like to me, like, you set up
that year and you're like, look at that list, and it's like,
Okay, I am very excited for twenty twenty two. I I often find
I think when I get excited for like all the possibility, like when we
know about a bunch of games that are coming and they're about a year off
and they're really exciting, something somebody always ends up disappointing. It's like the
years that when we don't expect stuff to be really the great is like those
are the surprising in really good years. But I'm hopeful that twenty twenty two
should be able to deliver on all these promises. Wrapping back with the Xbox
real quick. Yeah, so twenty twenty three. This is something I've talked
about before, but just kind of want to reiterate. The games that Microstoft
had on its internal tracker for twenty twenty three were Perfect Dark, contraband that
smaller Coalition game that they're testing Unreal Engine with that should probably be out around
that time. At least that's the plan right now. Ever, Wild I'm
almost certain that won't make it in twenty twenty three. Again, these are
alternative time frames, but this is what they expect right now. Avowed,
Fable and Nxiles New Getting like their next game of Avowed I think probably will
make it Fable. I am less certain about that one. That seems like
the kind of game that could get delayed as well. But even like two
or three of those games get delayed. That's pretty good, and there's probably
stuff we don't know about. Yeah, okay, so I think that does
it for like what I wanted to talk about today, So we'll get to
the questions. I figured we'd probably get some questions about the switch pro and
all that stuff, all those rumors from Bloomberg. I can't remember if we
talked about that last week. It's been a long week. I went on
a trip down to New Mexico and stuff, so I've been kind of unplugged
a little bit and I'm losing track of time, so I can't remember if
we talked about that stuff last week or not. And if we did,
then we'll just skip it. But if someone asks asks about it, I'm
sure we'll get to it and talk about that and uh, you know,
some thoughts, but mostly I'm just like, at this point, I'm a
little bit over talking about the switch pro and it's so hard to it's like
so hard to like be definitive about that when it seems like Nintendo itself is
not definitive about what its plans will be for that. Okay, let's get
in. I got some questions here, let's go to then let's bring them
up. All right, I got some questions down here that you guys can't
see on the on the screen yet, but that's fine. I want to
answer them real quick. A future to Jay asks, will Windows eleven come
to game Pass? Said? Is that how it worked out? It feels
like ann oroborous situation because it's like game Pass is supposed to be a service
and side of Windows that monetizes Windows, and then if you put Windows in
it and then that like game Pass, it's just it's a snake eating in
its own tail. But yes, I'm sure. No, I like,
I'm like unsure, Like I feel like I haven't paid for Windows and it
quite sometimes so maybe I'm like I'm selling myself out here. But I feel
like I guess a certain point, like they said Windows was gonna be sort
of free, right and they were just gonna focus on services. But that's
probably wrong. I bet you can go to the store still and buy Windows
eleven from Slaine MC. Awesome. If if far christ six is gaming's processed
food, what is gaming's healthiest food? So yeah, real quick, I
said, far Far crist six is is gaming's processed food. It's definitely not
gaming's only processed food. It's not even gaming's most processed food. And what
by processed food, what I mean is it is this chemically produced, like
sort of manufacturer product that is designed to exploit your brain's chemistry to get you
the maximum amount of like addictiveness and engagement, and like you can't pull yourself
away, just like when you find yourself reaching for goldfish crackers and you can't
stop eating num or whatever. And obviously, like the things that are most
built in that way when it comes to gaming are mobile games. Of course.
It's just you know, in terms of I think traditional console PC games
far Cris six feels like Ubisoft is so obsessed with getting people to play these
games for as long as possible, and it doesn't even matter if they're super
satisfying. It's just like if you are doing one quest and then you see
another quest come up, you start thinking about that and you're like, you're
just worried about getting to the next thing to get that next hit of dopamine
from like doing something new. That's what I mean. So I guess to
answer the question like what would be the healthiest game, I guess Tetris.
Maybe you know, no, it's snow Runner. It's snow runner. Go
get one of those trucks. Play with the physics. I don't know why
it's the healthiest, but I just feel like having the getting down in the
mud and the snow and having those physical interactions feel so good and crunchy.
It feels like it's gaming Granola. There it is. I got it eventually
from Windmills. Deal Dear mister snacks, what's for lunch? I don't think
about a burrito today. I think, yeah, probably a burrito. We'll
see. I haven't eaten yet today, So I think that sounds pretty good
from mister mccrinkledink. With the global supply chain all out of whack and the
micro trip shortage predicted to last into next year, when do you think a
return to normalcy might happen? And what are some signs of return is on
its way? So I think right now, what we are experiencing with the
global supply chain is I gat like a bungee cord effect where and there's economists
who can explain this way better than me, But you know, the supply
chain is like, you know, a bungee cord that's being pulled along and
if it's consistent enough, like you don't really feel that bouncing back and forth
too much. But when you suddenly stop it, it, you know,
it all bunches up. And then if you start trying to pull it really
hard again, what's gonna happen is it's gonna bounce like this, like whoooooo
boo boo boo. And that's what's happening with the supply chain where we stopped
it completely and then we pulled it really hard again, and we pulled it
in different directions because now we all have different needs where a lot of us
are working from home or whatever or yeah, so we're pulling it really fast
in different directions, and that's causing the bungee cord to you know, wobble
back and forth, and it's gonna take some time for it to get taught
again. And what happens in that wobbling is is that you know, you
pull it forth saying, oh, I need these things and I need these
things, and the back of the back of the bune of cord is trying
to up and say, well, I only have this and only have this,
and then it's like it whips forward with what it does have and then
it has to whip back to go get the things that left behind sort of
thing. It's again, I'm not explaining this very well, but basically the
metaphor still works where eventually it'll get pulled taught again, and that's gonna it's
just gonna take some time into next year. I think it's probably the most
likely scenario. If if inflation and stuff causes more problems though, and and
you know, raising rising prices and you know, who knows, if there's
any other shocks to the system, it could take longer. But I would
predict until you know, next year before we start getting past a lot of
these issues. And then as for the chip shortage specifically, uh yeah,
that that's something I think this is also gonna just take into next year.
I think in like the signs that it's returning to normalcy, I think we'll
be if you start, I mean, it's gonna be lagging indicators like we'll
know basically it's going back to normal, but car prices returning to normal stuff
like that. I think if these companies, if the car companies, and
really what should happen is a lot of the companies that are having issues with
getting microprocessors should just accept that they need to use more modern microprocessors, because
what's happening on the chip side is there's not really a super super shortage of
modern microprocessors. There obviously are. We can't get consoles, we can't get
GPUs, we can't get CPUs. There is a shortage, but that is
like normal because that stuff does have high demand and there's a higher demand than
normal, and that's just that's just normal supplying demand. The problem with like
cars and stuff like that is they're using older microprocessors. These companies don't want
to make anymore TSMC does not want to make these processes anymore because there's not
a high profit margin. So when people stop buying cars for a couple of
months there at the beginning of the pandemic, and this is part of that
supply chain wobble. But when people stop buying cars at the beginning of the
pandemic, these companies were like, Hey, we know that there's going to
be an increased demand for work from home, so we're gonna shift all of
our production over to these modern processors that do have high profit margin, and
we know we're going to be in high demand. And then suddenly a couple
of months later, the car companies were like, hey, we need those
old crappy chips again, and then TSMC and whoever else is looking around,
Samsung's looking around, like, Okay, we'll try to figure this out.
It's gonna take us some time, though, You're just gonna have to deal.
And it would just make more sense if if those like if the car
companies would just be like, Okay, we'll just just bite the bullet and
we will move on to a newer process or something like that. So I
think instead of like returning to normalcy, I think companies will just have to
continue to adapt. And if we start seeing companies adapt, that'll be a
sign that things are going to get back to what we feel as normal sooner
rather than later. Let's see from future creep, what's your number on the
Twitch earnings chart. I think it was like they only showed like the top
ten thousand, right. I didn't look too closely, and a new writer
working on that, Rachel Kayser over at games Speed. I think it was
doing a lot of that coverage, so I did not go to look at
see I do not believe I would be in the top ten thousand on Twitch
earners. I do not stream enough for that to be the case. Where
was dan rycherd at? That's what I want to know from casual? Hey
Jeff, how's your day going? As twenty twenty two gets close, slowly
closer? What are your thoughts on the output for games next year? Can
we expect more of the same, more delay? Sorry this question is too
broad. Also, is plain milk really fine? Chairs? That's a reference
to both Lasted than Nintendogs by podcast And also what is the Santa Claus with
Tim Allen where his son orders chocolate milk when they go to Thanksgiving dinner or
Christmas dinner at a restaurant and they are all out and he goes, plain
Milk's fine. Mike did down the podcast whatever, bad story. But yeah,
I think twenty twenty two should be the year where we started feeling like,
Okay, yeah, the world is actually still pretty messed up. There
are a lot of issues still, but games are coming out pretty fast and
fierce. I think that you know that list we read, even if like
eighty percent of those make it out next year, and I'm more confident than
that. I think I think it'll be a really really strong year. And
then there's things like that. I've heard like Dead Space is supposed to come
in October, if October of next year. If that's the case, that
would be you know, another really big game that that is looking really good.
Yeah. I think twenty twenty two is gonna be here where we just
say okay, yeah, things are still messed up, but gaming has figured
out where it needs to be right now, and games are starting to come
out and it's gonna be really satisfying. See from reclaimer DC. Any news
on swow Led availability. Is it going to be as difficult as Xbox Series
X and PS five. I don't think it's gonna be that difficult. I
would say, do not buy one that is marked up right now. Just
wait, just wait a little bit, like, wait two weeks. Let's
see what it looks like in two weeks, because I think there's a chance
that in two weeks you might be able to walk into a storing hit one.
Now. There's a chance I could see we're going into the holidays,
there is every possibility that it's going to be very hard to get a switch
led from now until after Christmas. But do not buy one marked up now,
wait and wait two weeks. I know that that could that could go
bad on you where the pressure pressures could turn up the other way where Okay,
we're waiting to see if the if the supply is really as constrained as
it could be, and then if it is, and then also now we
have the holiday effects pushing prices up even more because people aren't desperate to get
a switch old for their kid or whatever or their families. H yeah,
that could push prices up. But yeah, I think there's a chance that
the switch old will be easier to get it then the Xbox Series X or
the PS five. I guess you know, we've been talking about this a
lot in this episode, you know, the supply constraints and stuff like that.
One thing I have heard repeatedly when I'm like, you know, reading
the news or listening to NPR or whatever, is it seems like this holiday
shopping season is going to be pretty crunched down in terms of availability, and
things are going to be in short supply very very quickly. So if you
do need to do your holiday shopping, still do it now as soon as
possible. Things are going to be hard to get in November and December,
So dude, I think take the rest of October to finish your holiday shopping.
This is just like a quick pointer. But that's what I'm gonna do.
Just get it done, get it out of the way, and then
you don't have to think about it, and then whenever when everyone else is
scrambling, you'll already be done. And it seems like everyone's going to be
scrambling this year from our Manthorpe. When will they make a Surah's Wrath two.
I don't know who makes that. I can't remember who made that game,
Sarah. Let's just Surah's Raff develop or yea cyber connect to cyber Connect
two is like they have like a bunch of middleware stuff that they sell to
other studios. I wonder if they still at least they used to. Maybe
that business is dried up for them as well. But I think cyber connect
too is busy making money from it, like selling. You know, you
can make a lot of money if you make if you get really successful,
like making music. But you know who's someone who act like consistently makes money
is the person who sells the guitar. So the person who makes music.
Thanks cyber Connect too found a little bit of business like just making the tools.
All right, let's keep going from Azure Gale to the beginning of the
Smash Ultimate Soura trailer. Make you think a dark Sales rep would be the
final character? Yeah, a little bit. The fire like looked like it
was the the embers right flying through the air kind of looked like dark souls,
the bonfires. So yeah, I definitely thought that for like a fractive
second. But I thought like five other things as well. And then you
see the key blade and you get depressed. You just get pretty sad about
Sat. I was gonna I told myself not the same thing about Sah,
because I know what's gonna happen in Chat and it's just gonna be those damn
story emotes. So all right, just yeah, okay, I'm just not
gonna say anything else. Let's keep going from flat black. Hey, Jeff,
what do you think of the Konami rumors? And how do you think
the football being a streaming, steaming piled boats for the prospects of new metal
gear Castlevania Iris those emotes, of course, I think that I get like
the connection there where the football is disturbing hot mess and how can we expect
how can we get our hopes up for Metal Gear or Castlevania, and I
would say you probably shouldn't get your hopes up too high. I could just
see out of the corner of my eye. I thought that they have emoteste
I hate it so much, but they're gonna be working with external studios they
are working with, like I think there's a chance that some of these games
could surprise us. There's also I think a probably a greater chance that they'll
be disappointing. I think just give them a chance. Once they come out,
we'll see, but probably don't get your hopes up too high. I
don't necessarily think that it's going to be as bad as e Football Husband that
was just an unbelievable mess. But you know the you know, if they
worked with the right studio, there's always the chance we could get something pretty
decent as well. So yeah, it doesn't bode great obviously from future creep.
Do you think there will be another Smash Brothers. I am of the
mind that they will be poorting Ultimate for quite some time, and then when
when they're not doing that, I think they will remaster Melee. I think
the next big project will be a remaster of Melee and then they'll figure out
what the future of Smash is after that. I think a remaster of Melee
would be very easy for them because they wouldn't have to worry about licensing and
all that stuff, and it would be an easy win with that group of
fans. That's still years off, I think. I don't think. I
mean, I don't know if that's happening, but that would be my guess.
Disgusting star emotes. Let's see from Valentine, who is the biggest omission
in the Nickelodeon Smash Smash clone and why is it Rocco? Yeah, that's
a shame it is rock Rocco still Nickelodeon, right, because I know they
still dug to Disney. So uh, let me see Nickelodeon All Star brought
all roster. We should take a quick look here. They did get They
got April O'Neil in there, and that's good. Like trying to glance at
it, they got you know, Ren and Stempy powdered toast Man that I
don't know, Rocco probably actually is correct that probably is the biggest omission or
keenan from all that? Maybe all right? From Nicholas Sah and Super Smash
Brothers Ultimate Reactions. Look, I don't like Kingdom Hearts very much, now,
jan don't cut off the feed. I played Kingdom Hearts one on PS
two a few years ago. It was like right before I think it was
when my wife was pregnant, so it must have been like four or five
years ago. And it was bad. It's a bad game. It's very
frustrating because you played Kingdom Hearts on a PlayStation two. So this is years
after we've had three D games established. Just like, how would they like,
how to make one that plays good? And they just were like,
we're not gonna do any of that ship. We're gonna just make it humbersome
and weird. And here is like the jelly ship flying sequences that are in
infuriating, and here's some puzzles that don't make any sense. It's been the
years now, but it was a bad time. I was. I was
constantly frustrating, and my wife was playing most of it. She liked those
games when she played them originally, and then we played them again it was
like less it was less good. But uh so I saw Sara and I'm
like, God, this is disappointing. It's not that big a deal.
I don't play that much Smash Brothers anyhow, And really, when I think
about it, when it comes down to it, I can't think of a
better character actually than Sarah to put in there. Not really. I mean,
obviously I would have liked Walluigi. But whatever, they're not gonna do
Wallauigi. So if they're not gonna do Wallauigi, who is a better character
than Sarah? Not really anyone, and it was the most requested character,
it all makes sense. I'm not that hurt about it, just you know,
it's funny. It's it's the one thing I'm allowing myself to be sort
of like curmudgeonly about, not the one thing. I'm sure there's like eight
things, but I let myself be like sort of a butt about Kingdom Hearts,
where I will troll those fans a little bit. I try to make
it clear that I don't. It's not that big a deal. It's fine,
but uh, but if I'm gonna go on and tweet something mean about
a game, it'll probably be Kingdom Hearts. Who would you cast as Mario
in the movie. That's another one for feature Creep. I would probably just
have Charles Martiney do it. He would tone down the voice. He's an
actor, he could do that. He's worked on stage. It would be
fine. But I would just do Charles Martine if I had to like pick
a famous actor or something like that, you know, I would maybe,
like if it's animated, I almost would say, hey, let's just do
it and like give a chance to give him a chance to redeem himself at
least at least a Nintendo's eye and like get John like Gizamo to come in
and do it or something like that. I bet he could be pretty fun
as a Mario h yeah, because he could do the Brooklyn accent and just
tone it down as well a little bit. That would be fun. But
I don't know. Chris Pratt is literally the last name on the list though,
Like he wouldn't even be on the list obviously, but it just does
not make any sense to me. Let's see from Fuzzy Assassin. Do you
have any insights into the negotiations and stipulations surrounding Sour's appearance and smash? Nothing
directly, nothing like oh I've gotten look at the documents or anything like that,
But yes, they I'm sure they were intense, and I do think
that I think it's likely that someone like John Drake actually does should get some
credit here. I don't know exactly, it's a guess, but I think
you need Mike Manati over in the I think we were talking about this on
Games We Decides. He was like, you need an advocate within Disney to
make sure this can happen, because you need someone who's like gonna encounter the
problems that are that the lawyers present to you and say, Okay, we
need to push through those problems. Let's figure it out. Because the lawyers
get to that point, they're just gonna be like, we'll just keep billing
you while we sit here on top of these these problems for forever. You
need someone who wants to see this succeed. So it is. I'm sure
it is labyrinthine. It is confusing. I'm not sure if that's how you
say labyrinthine. I think that's right. But and it's a yeah, intense,
and I'm sure it involved a lot of negotiations. I'm sure like there's
specific language about why Sora can appear to look like he does and certain Mickey
Mouse stuff without making any specific references to any Mickey Mouse. And then the
Mickey mouse shaped like there's a there's the Mickey mouse shape appears like where it's
like, you know, the head with the ears that does appear in the
trailer in one place, right, So, and I think it's probably gonna
be in the game. And that's a trademark of Disney. So I can
only imagine the hours and hours and hours spent discussing that specific trademark and how
it can be used and how it's like the one thing that they are okay
having appear in this game. I mean, it would have been a lot
of time and a lot of paperwork and a lot of very specific legal ease
to get that to happen. From Morgia, I know Relic is busy with
AoE four and COH three, but are any Are there any romans either there
or at Sega about the possibility of a new Dawn of War or did Don
of War three's wretchedness kill that series dead? They're busy, I know,
yeah, you're like like you said, I think though, once they get
done with with what they're working on now, they could come back around to
Donna. Whar. I don't think it's I I think it's a prety test.
That's not dead basically, but they do like these partnerships with with Microsoft
for something like h Empires four, So you know, they might try to
make something else happen afterwards, if if that's possible. I think, is
this is relic the one that worked on or is that creative assembly that worked
on Halo Wars. I think that was a creative creative assembly or something.
Yeah. I think they might come back around and try another partnership with Microsoft
afterwards, because Microsoft likes these partnerships right now a lot. Okay, let's
keep going, keep moving from Megsie was Nintendo happy with the sales of Luigi's
Managed three, would let the see four as the couch co op experience was
fantastic? Yeah, yes, yes, absolutely so Luigi's Mansion three. It's
a bit of a meme with with with me and Mike on the Ten Dogs
where that is the game. That game sold ten million copies. I think
it's probably gonna get to eleven million copies this year, especially after this Halloween.
That is more than Spider Man Miles Morales. That's more than uh like,
I think it's more than we last heard about the Last of Us Part
two. That's more than just about I mean any Sony or Placed or Sony
or my Xbox first party one console exclusive. It is just on another like,
that's like the Nintendo effect. That's why we think something like Metroid Dread
is gonna be the best selling Metroid game because Luigi's Mansion goes from selling a
couple of million copies on GameCube to selling ten million copies on the Switch.
So Nintendo very happy with the seals of the sales of that game. That
was that's next level. I think that to developed that that's why Nintendo acquired
them, because the game sold so well that the company was like saying,
hey, we're gonna be worth a lot, there's a lot of interest and
acquire at studios. So we're gonna sell ourselves right now and try to get
the maximum return because we think that's that's that's we think that's gonna happen right
now. And Nintendo was like, well, we can't let you go.
We'll pay up. Come on, let's we'll write the check. We get
it. You did do very well with Luigi's Mansion three. We do expect
you to probably make a Luigi's Mansion four at some point down the line.
And you can work on some other stuff, maybe a punch Out. God,
I would love for them to get back to punch Out. But yeah,
to put it mildly, Nintendo s ecstatic about the sales of Luigi's Luigi's
Mansion three, So I mean almost still game sells ten million copies. So
it's just it's in a whole like it's in another league, and you know
it's in the Nintendo league by itself. They shouldn't make a Luigi's Mansion movie.
I agree with that. See, we moved around here from cognitive dissonance.
How long does Nintendo jail last? Typically? Is this a life sentence
for games to be? We don't know. We're it's not listen, we're
not complaining, not really. They still work with us. We're not blacklisted.
We just made a mistaken on a bargo that we agree to. So
all fair. But it's been it's been since Bowser's Fury, right, so
earlier this year. At first we were hoping six months. Now feel saying
maybe it's gonna be a year, so we'll see. It could be,
it could be until whoever's like holding the grudge at like Nintendo of Japan says
the pr can let us go. It could be that simple. And again
we're not complaining pressure, not trying to get Please don't ever reach out the
Nintendo on our behalf. Please don't do that. We get it. But
it's uh probably gonna be a year feature creep. What's a game stop?
That's a good question. Uh, it's a very good question. What is
a game stop? At this point? From Slane mcawsome. Thoughts on the
trailer for the new Resident Evil movie. It includes a thing here. I
haven't watched it. IM not gonna watch it right now, but maybe if
it's if I'm moved, I'll bring my thoughts next week and we'll see.
From Zeke Fritz, you're grubby, grubby grub we grub grub. Cats are
dogs? Which is better cats? I know Jeff Backlar might fire me if
for saying that, but cats are better. I grew up a cat person.
I'm still a cat person. I like cats because they are I like
an animal I can respect, and a dog has no self respects, so
I can't respect a dog. They eat thrown crap, and they smell bad,
and they don't know how to bathe themselves, and they are desperate for
your affection, and you could tell that it's just manipulation because they're afraid,
constantly afraid of being abandoned. And cats can take care of themselves and you
can like let them outside and they'll just come back home when they're ready,
and uh, and when they need affection, it's because they actually like like
you, not because it's some anxiety within them that like prevents them from ever
wanting to be alone. So I'm not I don't hate dogs. I just
hate when I go into a place and the first thing that happens is a
person's dog runs and puts their face right in my my penis. I don't
like that. I don't like dogs on my penis. I think that's fair,
right, Also don't I'm not gonna I'm not gonna keep complaining where showever.
Yeah, dogs don't a bit if you keep them clean. Okay,
tell that to all the people who don't clean their dogs. Then I'm not
I'm I don't have a dog. It's not I'm not gonna go wash someone
else's dog. But like if I go to like see a dog and it
smells bed, that's it's not. I've never been like. Most cats can
keep themselves clean, so like it's just never an issue with cats, not
really all right, you know what chat you could turn against me. All
you want this is I'm I'm You're not gonna move me on this. I
know how I feel. Let's see permanent sign. Are we due for any
big announcements this year or are we done until twenty twenty two? Thinking about
the Game Awards in December? So yeah, I'm definitely looking to see what
could be said about the Game Awards. I think it's still I mean,
Jeff Keeley is working on the Game Awards right now, definitely putting stuff together.
I think that it's things probably aren't close to being finalized quite yet.
So there's not much to know because there's as they don't know yet, but
I do I do expect there to be more announcements at the Game Awards.
We'll see what happens. And if you know, if I hear anything and
something that it's okay to like and dad or talk about, we'll bring it
here. We'll see, you know. It's it's kind of thing where like
people watch the Game Awards to be surprised, So if it's just gonna be
like another surprise or something or something we've talked about previously. I'll try not
to confirm it and spoil the surprise exactly unless it's important for some other reason.
From Jack two or three. Hey, Jeff, do we ever see
a Dark Forces remake? I hope so. I think it'd be really good.
I think that'd be a really good series to just remake one at a
time. I know Aspire clearly thinks next to the Old Republic is the one
that's most most worthy of that effort, but I think Dark Forces would be
great as well, and then the Jedi Night Games. But I mean to
like answer like the like like would we ever see it? I think that
it's Lucasfilm owns the rights to most of those games, and so it would
not like like that's what's happening when Nights of the Older Republic, where that
is just hey, Lucasfilm owned property, and they own the copyright and they
own you know, the trademarks obviously and all this stuff, so they don't
need to go and like get Ea and BioWare to agree, they could just
go do this on their own. So Dark Forces is a similar thing.
Lucasfilm just owns that Lucas Games or whatever they call themselves now Lucasfilm Games.
I know it's I don't think they use LucasArts anymore, so they would They
would have the capacity to just say, hey, take this thing that we
own holy and remake it partner developer whoever that is. So that part is
easy. It's just a matter of whether or not there's an impetus at the
company to want to make that happen. Let's see what are we doing on
time? All right, we're fifty minutes in. I just saw a question
chat that was, you know, sit the staff. But from anadem,
Hey, mister Snacks, what are the chances of a Castlevania DS collection.
I'm I'm hopeful that the Game Boy collect Gameboy Advanced Collection is selling so well
that they can't help themselves but figure this one out. But it will require
more work from m too than the Game Boy Advanced Collection did, because dual
screen going to like Switch and Xbox and PC to these single screen devices.
They'd have to figure out how to make that work. And I think,
you know, I think it would make sense. I think it would be
worth the effort. But does Konami think it's worth the effort of paying more
upfront? For another bite at this apple. My hunt here is that Advanced
Collection is getting enough buzz and it's going to sell enough to make people really
consider it. And so I'm going to say that there's a good chance that
this happens. But I'm sure Konami's looking at and saying, oh, I
wish it was just a single screen device and we could just put these games
and call it a day, because then they would do it like that,
They would just do it. But having to have someone come in and do
new development to figure out how to switch like to you know, efficiently and
and and entertainingly switch between those screens without messing stuff up. We'll see thee
here. Sorry from doctor Powe. With the recent acquisitions by Sony, and
given that these deals take long take a long time, did Herminals take these
into account when he said that twenty five games were in development at PlayStation studios.
I think that blue point he probably did take into account. I don't
know if he took all of those all of the projects into account though,
And really that twenty five number is never you know, it's twenty five projects
that are in the works, and they're gonna be a various scale and and
stuff. So it's like it's I never like like those numbers when when like
head of heads of big publishing arms or whatever throw those numb I think EA
did that with the number like fourteen games are coming, and it's like most
of those games most people aren't going to care about. And that's probably gonna
it's not gonna be quite as an extreme here. A lot of people are
gonna care about a lot of these games. But that's twenty five game number.
You're gonna look back and be like, ah, what are the really
twenty five games? I don't know, but did they take did did he
take like Blue Point and account? I think so? Did he take all
the acquisitions acquisitions into accoun when he said that number? Maybe not. From
Slay mccawsin Wise Kingdom, hearts so bad. I mean, the camera controls,
combat's okay, but it's kind of repetitive. The story characters. There's
a couple of reasons. There's dogs in it from Airy Buster. Uh,
what can we expect from DC fandom? Any surprises? Yeah, that's coming
up in about ten days, right, nine days, so I guess we
should start hearing about it. I haven't like looked around too much. But
I think, you know, they probably give us some updates on Suicide Squad
and everything else, So there's probably not too many new game announcements to make
because they have too much stuff in the works they haven't delivered yet. So
it's mostly going to be updates on stuff we already know about, I think,
and then maybe we hear about the future of Injustice three from debt Ben
Malone interested in where the God of War series will go after Ragnarok? Do
you think they keep making God of War? They're gonna keep making God of
War. Yeah, so I think that they are smart to do the thing
where like, hey, we're gonna end this story with God of War Ragnarok,
and then we'll do something new. I think in terms of how long
it takes to make these games, and I just think there would be a
severe diminishing return with a God of War free in this style personally, and
they would be much there would be a much greater benefit from shaking things up
more severely with the with the follow up to Ragnarok. And so that's that
mean, like, you know, do you send Kratos to Egypt? I
think the one thing here is people are speculating, is Kratos gonna die at
the end of this game? I think that's very, very likely. But
then the next God of War is still gonna start Kratos. They're not gonna
do a God of War without Kratos. I would just be flabbergast that I'd
be so shocked if they would do it without because the game is about this
this character that people like. It's gonna They're gonna just keep going with Credos.
So does the next game reboot it and it's a whole new story where
you know, Kratos goes to Egypt or whatever. Yeah, I think something
like that could work. And then that gives you a chance to rethink some
mechanics and present the game in a slightly different way. And uh, and
then you know, feels a little bit refresher, fresher and stuff. But
they're they're gonna keep making gott a War games. From our rules A.
Jeff is Watchdogs a successful franchise. I've never I've never met anyone who particularly
likes these games, yet they keep making them. What are ubisoft aspirations in
regards to new ip is Considering the flat reaction to Phoenix Rising, Yeah,
it's I'm like, I'm right there with you. Where it's like tough to
like take a temperature on Ubisoft's feelings towards these franchises. The hunch I get
is that they that they probably are happy with Watchdogs. It probably does sell
well enough. I mean, I don't know if it sells as well as
Luigi's Mansion three, but if it's like anything about like north of like five
million copies, and I do think these games probably get above there. Usually
that's enough for Ubisoft to say, Okay, that was a pretty good success.
I know some of their bigger games so much better than that. Uh.
I think a lot of it is also just an inertia and momentum where
you know, you start this ip, put all this work, just get
get a new en off the ground. It gets enough buzz that people were
excited about the first Watchdogs and like maybe it's just like it hap with Assesson's
Creed right where the first one had a lot of buzz. The first game
didn't quite deliver on that buzz, but then the second one in Brotherhood,
those were all huge successes and they capitalize on what people originally wanted from from
the franchise. And now they've been able to refresh it a bunch of times
or whatever. And so I think Ubisoft sees that that pattern as something it
could maybe apply to each new thing it does, where even if the first
game doesn't necessarily deliver on the promises, they think they could take what they've
learned, take many of those assets, take many of the lessons, and
apply that to another game and then reap the benefits of all the buzz they
built the first game on the second and third and and you know, and
now it's taking less money because if you don't have to completely spend spend a
ton of like years on pre production figuring out what this universe is, you
sort of have a lot of that's a lot of that stuff into place.
So I think a lot of that's what we're seeing a lot, But at
a certain point, like does watch Dogs for Now happen, because you know,
watch these watch Dogs games do seem to come and go, come and
go in a way that the Assassin's Creed games do not, and even the
farcranp with far Card games don't. So I don't know exactly how they feel
about it. I would guess that they are probably sitting around the game.
They're probably considering going in a different direction and doing something that isn't watch Dogs
Next in a way that they aren't considering that with far Cry and Ghost Free
Khan and Assassin's screen from Luter Jennings, what's going on with Randy Pitchford?
And I don't know. They said he was gonna go He's gonna like focus
on movies. He's probably a star fucker man. He's probably just like someone
just wants to be near celebrities. That's what it's the That's the hunch I
got from that video that he showed of him like on set, bothering,
what's her name? Can't who's the let me see here? Well, I
gotta think of I cannot okay Borderlands actress through Randy Pitchford harassed, Yeah,
Kate Blanchett. Like he just wants to be near Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack
Black and Kate Blanchett. Right, that's the hunch I get. Like he's
a magician, he wants to be on stage and wants to be a performer,
and these are like the performers. I'm like, I'm projecting them maybe
a little bit like I'm like or I'm like over analyzing maybe, but yeah,
that's the hunch I get. Uh, let's see here from winter Ree,
any insight into how companies possibly project manage, how possibly project manage games
with a step? How do they possibly manage games with a staff of two
hundred plus devs with those huge numbers? Any any I'm sorry, I'm having
a hard time with this one. Those huge numbers and many large devs having
teams in different countries. I'd love to read a deep dive into how that's
possibly a project managed. So there's like a whole cottage industry of software and
technologies that are focused primarily on project management and and uh and program management and
and and like I'm sorry, I'm trying to version management and stuff like that.
So like when people in different places are all working on the same software
that they know who has worked on what and where stuff is and if you
make a change, it's not going to mess someone else's stuff up. And
really, but you know, that's like the software side. In terms of
like human resource side, that stuff is tough and it's something that you be
soft is for all of its problems and for being a company where there's been
a lot of harassment, and it's it's, it's and it has rotten man
management. In terms of actually getting a bunch of teams to work together,
you be, Stoft is good at that. I wouldn't want to work there
until they change the people who are in charge that have enabled to harass what
to happen. But in terms of like building a studio that can get fourteen
hundred people all to work together across the globe, Ubisoft figured that out years
and years ago, and it's something that other other companies are still struggling with
and still trying to figure out how to make that, how to replicate that.
And so you get something like you know, call of Duty and Activision
being like, I don't know, get the toys for Bob people to come
work on call of duty? Well, we don't know. I'm gonna go
get back on my yacht. I'm Bobby Cottick. Like, I think that's
not quite as streamlined as Ubi Stoft saying, hey, we have these two
studios, lots of them, back and forth between leading this as his creed
and here's this game. Here's the studio that like works on water in these
games and sailing, and here's the studio that works on the parkourse stuff or
whatever, and here are our fifteen art you know, creation like asset teams
or whatever. It's it's it's a tough thing. It's really challenging, absolutely,
and it's something that most companies actually still struggle WITHSS So you say,
oh, it sounds difficult, It is definitely very difficult, all right,
Tim Robinson is Wallauichi is very very good. Our line's up. I like
that a lot. Uh here, final data asks, remakes and remasters are
pretty in vogue again. Do you think that with more with triple A more
risk adverse and expensive than ever, we'll see more and more remakes and remasters.
Yeah, that line of thinking is absolutely correct in terms of why we
see a lot of these companies going back to things that they know sold before.
And I think it's a it's right in line with what we were saying
earlier about Capcom. Right where Capcom is not trying to make fifteen different franchises
work. It has a handful of stuff that it knows sells, and it
goes back back to those over and over again, and it found a way
to do new stuff and to do remasters and remakes, so we get the
new we get Final Fantasy eight or Final Resident Evil eight Village or whatever,
and then we're gonna get you know, Reside before remake next right that it's
and it's gonna bounce. It's gonna keep bouncing back and forth between that stuff.
And so yeah, like there's a way they're like do this in a
way that's very successful and it still enables you to take triple a new game
risks, but still within a franchise that you are probably also remaking, so
that you keep these things like fresh and relevant, and also you are investing
in the stuff that you know can succeed, that has been proven to succeed.
So yeah, to answer your question, we're gonna see a lot more.
I think we're gonna see more remakes than we've ever seen before. Like
we're gonna continue getting remasters obviously, but these companies are going to take some
time to reinvest in these older games completely rebuild them from the ground up in
a way that calf Come does and the way that Blue Point does. All
Right, I was gonna I'm gonna start scrolling up to see if they anyone
has any new questions that I've missed. I'm gonna try to get a few
of these. Let's see here. Christian a Arg says, how was the
weekend trip? I saw your tweets and it looked like fun times. Sorry,
I got a hair in my mouth there. It was fun. We
went to the Balloon Festival in uh in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's like
a six seven hour drive. The kids were really good in the van.
They like going to hotel rooms. Now they always talk about going on in
adventures to hotels, so they like that part of it a lot. The
two year old like to ride in the elevator a lot. And then we
went to the balloon Festival and it was very cool because you could just go
right up to the balloons and stand next to them as they're getting inflated.
And the first time we were there, we're like, we just walk kept
walking more and more into the balloons until you know, it was evening,
and excuse me, it was evening. We walk in and we're like,
now we're surrounded by balloons. There's like some lane right in front of it,
so about getting inflated, and many more that were already inflated, and
basically they were just doing a light show where oh, it's about to get
dark, We're all gonna hit our gas at the same time and light up
these balloons. And it was really cool because we were just completely surrounded and
like it felt like all in every direction there was balloons. I put a
video up of it, but it was really really fantastic, really cool,
really colorful. We really liked Albuquerque, and New Mexico was really pretty.
We're in Colorado, so it's like the train was actually quite different, Like,
yeah, I'm in the high plains desert in Colorado. That's not like
the desert desert of New Mexico, which is really pretty. So it was
it was a fun time. I went to Mount Malwolf, which is I
think it's Malwolf's installation called the House of Eternal Return. I think it's what
it's called. That was fantastic, and I found that they just opened a
new place here in Denver that's like four times the size or something like that.
So I'm gonna go there. That game that I'm almost called a game,
it is like a game. It's like this non linear your art installation
where there's all these things like you could go through. You go through a
house and it looks like the house from returnal and you go inside the house
and then all of a sudden, you're in the kitchen. You open up
the fridge and instead of food being in there, it's a door to another
place. And then you go through there and you wrap around and you come
back into the house by like climbing through the washer or something like that.
It's all it's this neat place to explore and stuff. So if you're ever
in Santa Fe, and that was in Santa Fe, if you're ever in
Santa Fe, definitely go to that. Apparently they have another thing like that
in Las Vegas called Omega Mart, which people say is even more incredible,
And now I can't wait to check out. Although people in Denver I think
are kind of being a little bit like defensive because everyone's saying, oh,
Asa Bonita is way better than Maowolf, and Costa Bonita is that that Mexican
restaurant that's kind of like a mini theme park that has been on South Park
that the guys from South Park just bought. So I haven't been to Costa
Bonita yet either, So we'll go to Casa Bonita, we'll go to the
Mount Miowolf installation, and I'll report back it either way. It was a
very good trip. Thanks for asking. Let's see here. I'm gonna work
my way from a top down. Now, let's see here from vertically.
Whatever happened to Microsoft's twenty sixteen promise of VR support for the Xbox They announced
it at E three. Consider that promise broken. That's not gonna happen.
They are not working on VR for Xbox. They have no interest in it,
not really. You know, they put VR support into Flight Simulator,
and they were very clear at that time, like, hey, we're putting
VR support into into flight simulator. Don't expect this to mean anything else.
We're not working on a VR headset. It's just not gonna happen. From
Cipher eighty eight es VR two Holiday twenty twenty two. Yeah, that sounds
right. I think that's right, because you don't want to get too far
into this generation before you like kick that off, like and it gives you
a chance to reignite excitement. Not that there won't still be excitement about about
PS five by holiday twenty to twenty two. There definitely will be, but
you know, it keeps like, oh, like they're a cool thing s
happening on PlayStation. Here's this cool new VR headset. So yeah, I
think by twenty twenty two that makes a lot of sense from trisning any Juice
to the Blue Point blood Born stuff, I hope. So, I don't
know, you know, they said they're working on something original. It could
be an it could be an existing ip though, you know, are they
remaking blood Born or are they doing a blood Born two in partnership with from
I don't I don't know. I feel like blood Born though, is one
is a franchise that Sony does not want to let go of and it doesn't
want to like to fall into obscurity, So they'll try to find a way
to keep it relevant and keep it coming back, and Blue Point would be
great for that, I think, you know, coming off with Demon Souls
from Megazi, will there be a tomb Ray to reboot re reboot and who
would develop develop a Crystal Dynamics after the Perfect Dark project? Yeah, I
think Square Enix is in a position right now where it's like even wondering if
it wants to do that. Uh. You know, we've talked about Square
Knicks long on the show and how sort of messy it is, and it
doesn't really have a good plan for how to approach many of its current franchises
or how to take risks. It just has a couple of things that are
working and and the rest of its off. It's you know, games are
kind of falling apart, and I think, you know, Crystal Dynamics working
on Perfect Dark is a sign that they are not willing to take a risk
on a new tum right all right now, So maybe they'll get back around
to it. Maybe they'll feel it out again and be like, yeah,
we're ready for another tumb rater, but right now, it doesn't not feel
like the time for that. Yeah, and like to speak to this topic,
Kane Highwen zero nine asks any guesses as to why the Kingdom Hearts switch
ports are cloud only three makes sense, but I'm at a loss for all
the others. They're lazy. I mean, I am not. I hate
to do the lazy dep thing. This is not lazy dev's, it's lazy
publisher. It's a publisher that's saying, hey, yeah, we'll throw some
Kingdom Hearts games on the switch. We're not going to develop anything for the
switch though, We'll just put it in the cloud whatever, call it a
day. It's totally accompany seeing an easy solution that it isn't optimal, and
not caring about any of that stuff, only seeing it as the easy solution.
And it stinks. It's bad. It's not a good choice. It
is. It is an unsurprising move from the company that gave you The Quiet
Man and baland Wonder World. And I need you know, I always I
can never remember the name of it. So let's see if we can google
it and find it out. So I'm gonna go to Google dot com.
Square Enix bad, Metal Gear Solid Clone. Okay, that's that's not very
helpful. What what is that Metal Gear Solid game style game that they made
that was super bad? It's it's Square. It just doesn't know what they're
doing right now. It feels like and they or they don't care, and
they just stumbled into success with Final Fantasy fourteen. It feels like and they're
writing that and everything else can just sort of fall apart all around them,
and they don't care. I'm gonna I'm here, I'm gonna screw up a
chat see if someone else got it. Now, if anyone thinks of that
game, I'll be very appreciative. Appreciative, left left alive yes, left
Alive, Yes, thank you so much. Left Alive. Yeah, I
want to play through all of that game, but it's just so bad.
I think they like the cover art even had was done by the metal Gear
artist. I think at least that's what it looks like. Ooo. All
right, all right, where are we at. We're about seventy minutes in.
Let's answer a few more questions. But I'm definitely feeling like, oh
yeah, my brain is rattling around for talking for so much, so it's
like I'm ready for you to be done, but I want to answer a
few more questions. Yeah, Funnel desks in chats like hey, do the
switch cloud games run poorly or something? Wise? Everyone averse to them,
and I think it's just like the concept I think so it depends on your
network. Clearly, there some people have experienced lag. I think I've had
pretty good luck with them. But it's just the idea that, like we
know, these older Kingdom Hearts games could run natively on the Switch and therefore
would work really well as portable games, so you can play them anywhere and
not have to worry about your network. So the idea that we have to
play them in the cloud is just sort of it doesn't doesn't compute. It
just feels like an easy solution to what is not even really a problem.
Just put someone on there to pour them. Yeah, they're super impractical.
Impractical impractical, Yes, Jeff alive, that's right, that's the name of
the game. Uh from Uzy you hear about the Panzer Dragon VR fake cancelation
announcement where they said the CEO was dead, He's alive. What is going
on there? I have no idea about this, but I'm gonna look it
up as soon as we're done. That sounds nuts. What are your Did
they say that the CEO is dead as like like an aarg or something like
what is happening over there? Okay, I'll look into that. That sounds
nuts from us. Do you think anything will come of Konami's indie game competition
thing? I mean, I don't know. I don't like those things.
It's definitely exactly like the Joseph Gordon Levitt thing where they were doing it with
Beyond Good and Evil two, where it's like, hey, do some labor
and then we'll let you know if we'll pay you for the labor. It's
not great. This is a big publisher. It's a big company. If
they want to have people work on spec they should peep. They should pay
people to do that, to pitch them, or you know, pay people
to Like, if you're going to produce a prototype for Konami, just be
paid. And they're only going to pay you if you win. And that's
just free labor for all the people who don't win, and even the people
that do win. It's it's not going to be like a huge payout or
something. It's not going to be commisserate with the with the labor, with
the or what the value of these properties could be if if these games succeeds.
So just a bunch of crap from seeing any rumors of Xbox Xbox holding
an event for the twentieth anniversary next month, I don't know. I think
that they are working up towards something like that, but I think now that
it wouldn't be like a ton of new announcements. I think if they have
anything new to show or like new trailers or something like that, it might
be more like, here's a chance for us to reminisce, here's a chance
for us to talk about Halo. Let's sell Halo one last time. And
then if they have like new trailers, trailers the show, I think those
those are the kind the things that are gonna show up at the Game Awards.
So we might see something from like hell Blade two at the Game Awards.
I don't know for sure, but if something like that were to show
up, that's where it would I think at this point. Okay, yeah,
zero quest and just putting a confusion over Panther Dragoon VR cancelation after false
claims of debt. Okay, wow, all right, I need to catch
up on that from Slim mcgawsum. Any juicy rumors you can tell us about
or you can't tell us about yet, we won't tell Yeah, dude,
there's a few things and I can't tell you about him yet. But we'll
get it. We'll get to a point where we can h there's there's stuff
happening at a bunch of studios that it's it's just you know, I've been
told that I can't say anything, So that's okay. We when we can,
if if it's possible, if it makes sense, if we can make
a case for it, we'll get it out to you. Lud Jennings,
will you adopt me full disclosure. I'm thirty. I don't think I can
write you off of my taxes as a dependent at thirty. So no,
I'm just kind of scrolling around now. Christian wants to know if I could
tell him the rumors. Nope, I tell Mike and he's still still He's
still like hints at him, and then I get in trouble. So no,
I'm not gonna tell you, Christian. U Kane high wins zero nine.
Worst piece of the pizza topping and go. I mean, like the
worst one that I often find myself eating is something like a black olive,
which I don't even hate, but I'm I'm like, I'm not going to
order anchovies, like, so that's probably the worst one, like salty little
fish and doesn't I don't need that on my pizza. And I'm a teenage
meeting Inja Turtle and they like they said no anchovies, but yeah, I
don't love black elves. I just don't. I don't hate them either,
but that's probably the worst one. Like if I were to get as I
would order like a supreme pizza right or I would get one from the grocery
store and make it even if I have black elves on it, and I
would still eat most of them and occasionally take one off, but like,
I don't, I don't need that in my next bite. But all the
other stuff better, is like greater than black olive. What Beard oil are
you using from propaganda Panda? I don't remember the name of the brand.
I don't remember the name of the brand. I'd have to look, but
I got a bunch of it on sale a long time ago, and I
haven't I haven't run out yet, So yeah, let's see, okay,
crew casual thoughts on the Van Helsing movie with Hugh Jackman. I love that
movie. I love that movie. It feels like a candy coated fever dream
and I you know that. I think I read a review once that said
it was like if you got a an eight year old hopped up on sugar
and send him into a movie to watch a bunch of monster movies and then
had them come back out and explain to you what happened in those monster movies.
What they said is would be the script for Van Helsing. And I
am like, yeah, that totally makes sense, and I'm like I'm into
it. You know, it's got early bad cgi, it's got sort of
campy costumes, but everyone's overacting, but it's it's a lot of fun.
It's like exactly the kind of uh, you know, spooky Halloween movie,
not not a scary, not a horror film, but like a spooky,
creepy Halloween note not even creepy, spooky fun Halloween movie that I like to
watch around this time of year. So I am into Van helsing yeah and
uh and yeah, Hugh Jackman. Huge action is always fun, It's correct
from Let's see here from Brittany BRENTI, after giving one of those ambernecks the
other day, I'm suddenly wondering why we've not had a game Boy Classic yet,
small with a nice screen, Some Maario Land Warreal Lamb, Pokemon Zelda
Extrater feels like an easy home run. So I think they're going to get
to there eventually. They are just selling us these game and watch things first.
You know, they did the Mario game and watch, They're doing the
Zelda game and watch. I think they will eventually get to a point where,
Okay, we've gotten through all of those game and watch things that we
can do. Now, let's just suck it up and take the supply chain
we've used to make those game and watch devices, make a game Boy Classic
and sell that with you know, twenty thirty games. The problem is Pokemon,
I think, I think getting the Pokemon Company to agree, like getting
everyone involved with Pokemon Company to agree to put the Pokemon games on a pokeon
a game Boy Classic, it's necessary, you have to do that, but
can like, can you make that work? That's pretty challenging. So you
know, of course there's other license game, but really the Pokemon ones are
the most important. I know Nintendo owns a third of the Pokemon Company.
It would will be a challenge to get everyone involved there in the leadership at
the Pokemon Company to say, yeah, let's go ahead and put Pokemon you
know, red and blue or yellow or whatever on there and call it a
day. They probably would be like pretty resistant to that. Yeah. And
for people who are wondering, Amber Nick the eye of the RG three five
one P which is the plastic horizontal version, someone chat enter Statsman says they
love their V version, which is the vertical one, that it looks more
like a game Boy and I think it has a four by three screen instead
of the wider screen. But these are they're fantastic little Chinese portable devices.
And I love mine. I've talked about of mine like all the time,
so you've probably heard it before. All right, all right, yeah,
I think we're gonna wrap this up. There's any like one last question from
Steel Night two thousand. Are all your chip bags blown up like balloons because
of the altitude? So no, that only happens when you like go from
low altitude to high altitude. So a lot of the stuff they like in
Colorado, like would be packaged near here or at this altitude, so it's
not like it's shipped in from sea level and then comes up here and then
blows up because the atmosphere and there's like higher. But I've definitely had a
situation where we would drive from like where we're at, which is about five
thousand and six thousand feet, and then we would go up to a mountain
town and we'd go to like ten thousand feet and something would be blowing up,
or we would I would take a drink of my water going through there's
like a the Eisenhower Pass or something like that, which is like a tunnel
through the mountains at ten thousand feet, and I would take a drink of
my water in that tunnel, put the lid back on, set it down,
and then when we got on the other side of the mountain and drove
down to like seven thousand and six thousand and five thousand feet, it would
be condensed and smushed and stuff because the atmosphere was getting greater and stuff.
It's something you don't feel normally, but it's happening. So yeah, okay,
all right, that was fun. Tummy Robbins. Good morning, Mr
Grubb. It's a lovely day here in Denver. Are you going to go
out and see the fall leaves anytime soon? If so, where I hear
aspen is the spot. Any drive through the mountains is great. Right now.
There's a ton of aspen trees that are turning golden right now. I
have one in my front yard that for some reason it likes it loses leaves
all year. It might be dying, but my it's it's losing a ton
of leaves right now before anyone else's. So I need to find out what
species that tree is and find out what's going on with it. But yeah,
but yeah, going on and drive into the mountains, just taking seventy
or whatever is pretty good, but going to like Breckon Ridge, Aspen all
that stuff. It's it's fantastic. Okay, so let's get out of here.
If you want to yell at me about my preference for cats, my
distaste for Kingdom Hearts, or anything else, you can get me on Twitter
at at Jeff Grub yell at me there. That's fine. I told And
if you want to help me out inside Nintendo jail, some send me some
E cards. It's our currency in there. I don't know. All right,
we're gonna wrap this up. Thank you everybody so much for listening.
I'm back with another new episode next week, on next Thursday. We're getting
into the holiday season, so it's gonna be a lot of new games to
talk about. We'll see how much news there is to talk about. I
do think some stuff will start loosening up from the Game Awards here pretty soon
as as that starts to get solidified. But I'm sure i'll have something else
to bring you. Definitely looking into stuff all the time until then, though,
how take care of yourself. Have a good one and goodbye.
