<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Best Mornings with Me Jeff Grub, <v Speaker 1>your host from GiantBomb dot com. Thank you for tuning in. <v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're going to be talking about just <v Speaker 1>how powerful will that PlayStation six hand held be, and <v Speaker 1>a hot start for the Super Mario Galaxy movie. It's <v Speaker 1>gonna be a good one because we have Jana Choa <v Speaker 1>on the show. Jan, how are you doing? <v Speaker 2>I'm sleepy? Yeah, me too. <v Speaker 1>I didn't really, I was just like trying to fit <v Speaker 1>in things I should have been doing over the weekend, <v Speaker 1>but I was gone at packs. So I'm like fit <v Speaker 1>doing a little bit more painting so we could do <v Speaker 1>some wallpapering this weekend. Wallpaper's back, Jan, I don't know <v Speaker 1>if you knew that wallpaper is back. <v Speaker 2>Wallpapers back, yes, And so I'm doing some of that. <v Speaker 1>So I had to get ready for and it's going <v Speaker 1>to be a busy weekend because we're gonna do some <v Speaker 1>Easter stuff for the kids and go see the Mario movie. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, not a lot of time. I got to <v Speaker 1>fit that in here. <v Speaker 3>Holy smokes, I didn't realize this weekend was Easter. I've <v Speaker 3>just been living like a heathen meat on Fridays and <v Speaker 3>just not giving anything up. <v Speaker 2>Oh, no, you can't do that. <v Speaker 3>There's too much fish. You gotta eat the fish first. Oh, <v Speaker 3>I'll gladly eat the fish. I mean, we all ate <v Speaker 3>a bunch of lobster. That's close enough, someone enough, someone <v Speaker 3>brought to the sea, they say, exactly. So what brought <v Speaker 3>this up to my attention when we were mentioning about <v Speaker 3>how many the sheer volume of lobsters we ate over <v Speaker 3>the packs weekend? Is that not a sea dog? <v Speaker 2>Almost? <v Speaker 3>Is that not a fancier hot dog to some? <v Speaker 1>Yeah? I mean the way it was presented, it did <v Speaker 1>feel a bit like a sea dog. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean. <v Speaker 1>And the thing about lobster is, you know, it's it <v Speaker 1>is just one meat, which is not something hot dogs <v Speaker 1>can often claim. But if you did like imitation crab instead, <v Speaker 1>then that you're getting real close to just being a <v Speaker 1>sea dog. So I think I think we're onto something. <v Speaker 1>I think we're pretty close to cracking that nut. <v Speaker 2>Jan there we go. We're on the case. <v Speaker 1>Thank you everybuddy for hanging out with this week. As <v Speaker 1>we sleepily get through everything, it's gonna be good. We <v Speaker 1>got some more stuff happening, but we should probably explain <v Speaker 1>what we're doing here, and explain ourselves. You can also catch the <v Speaker 1>show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. <v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so <v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with reports claim PS six <v Speaker 1>handheld surpasses Xbox Series S in graphics tests. <v Speaker 2>This comes from. <v Speaker 1>A couple of places, but mostly that Kepler L two <v Speaker 1>person that we talked about a little bit earlier this week. <v Speaker 1>They have a track record of being pretty good at <v Speaker 1>at least knowing what the specs are for upcoming hardware, <v Speaker 1>and they have a pretty good idea of like especially <v Speaker 1>with AMD stuff. So this is the big the bulk <v Speaker 1>of the story that the handheld that will be launching <v Speaker 1>alongside the PS six is going to be more powerful, <v Speaker 1>generally speaking, than an Xbox Series S. <v Speaker 2>Here's how Kepler L two put it in a post <v Speaker 2>on neogaph. <v Speaker 1>GPU is a bit ahead of the Xbox Series S <v Speaker 1>in raster, which is like the traditional way of presenting games, <v Speaker 1>and of course massively ahead in ray tracing and path tracing, <v Speaker 1>which is the alternative, the new new way of doing things, <v Speaker 1>something that like, you can be way better at ray <v Speaker 1>tracing and path tracing and not be that much better <v Speaker 1>at raster, And that's kind of what happened with the <v Speaker 1>switch To versus the Xbox Series S, where Xbox Series <v Speaker 1>the Xbox Series S is probably a little bit more <v Speaker 1>powerful still than the Switch To in traditional rastered graphics fidelity, <v Speaker 1>but once you out on any path tracing or ray tracing, <v Speaker 1>the H two has enough of the specialized juice to <v Speaker 1>make that stuff work really well, and so you get <v Speaker 1>situations where it's like, oh, this game that kind of <v Speaker 1>ran like shit on the Xbox Series S is running <v Speaker 1>really well on the switch To. Surprisingly, so with this <v Speaker 1>PS six handheld, it's sounding like you won't have any <v Speaker 1>of that. It'll just straight up be more powerful than <v Speaker 1>Xbox Series S and then also have extremely good rate <v Speaker 1>tracing performance on top of that, then to compare it <v Speaker 1>to the switch to which you know, one of it's magical. <v Speaker 1>The magic sauce that does have jan is the DLSS. <v Speaker 1>It hasn't much older version of that something that is helping, <v Speaker 1>but isn't like the modern standard by a long shot. <v Speaker 1>They're saying that the Pisser three tech that will be <v Speaker 1>in the PS six and apparently the PS six handheld <v Speaker 1>will lead to better image quality than even the current <v Speaker 1>DLSS four point five. So the top of the line <v Speaker 1>stuff that we're getting on the high end in Vidio GPUs, <v Speaker 1>this will at least be able to match or surpass that. <v Speaker 1>So you hope to hear these things for a device <v Speaker 1>that is still years off and in a lot of <v Speaker 1>ways we talk about at least for the home console <v Speaker 1>not having a lot of interest in I'm a little <v Speaker 1>bit more interested in the handheld for sure, Jane. And <v Speaker 1>this is the kind of stuff where it's like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>if you're gonna do this, Sony, and the idea is <v Speaker 1>to just have a PS six you can take with you. <v Speaker 1>This is kind of the realm you need to kind <v Speaker 1>of start at of I better be able to play <v Speaker 1>all the games that are coming out to this thing <v Speaker 1>on this device in a decent way. And if this <v Speaker 1>is the case, that's great, And then of course there's <v Speaker 1>a conversation around price, but we have no idea, so <v Speaker 1>I don't know what. <v Speaker 2>How do you feel about all this, Greb. <v Speaker 3>I'm in a similar space as you where I have <v Speaker 3>a lot of hesitancy towards adopting the next generation of consoles. <v Speaker 3>I feel like we haven't completely taken advantage of this one. <v Speaker 3>But all that being said, I am a sucker for <v Speaker 3>a good handheld. My other worries, though, on top of <v Speaker 3>performance and price, is how big is this thing going <v Speaker 3>to be supposed to be as powerful as an Xbox <v Speaker 3>Series S? Is this thing going to chew up and <v Speaker 3>churn through batteries? How hot is this thing going to get? <v Speaker 3>Because I've also been very curious about how PlayStation has <v Speaker 3>been pushing and positioning the PlayStation portal, because at first <v Speaker 3>it felt like a weird idea for them to put out, <v Speaker 3>and then it didn't quite land, But lately it's been hitting. <v Speaker 3>It's been a silent system sellar, not system sellar, but <v Speaker 3>like a product that is moving off of shelves so <v Speaker 3>much so that they included it in like the price increase, right, <v Speaker 3>I don't know are they learning anything from that? Is <v Speaker 3>it just going to be a big honkin screen with <v Speaker 3>two dual senses attached to the sides. <v Speaker 2>I am curious about what this is going to look like. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and I think that it is probably going to <v Speaker 1>be pretty big, pretty bulky. They are putting an entire <v Speaker 1>laptop into their similar to a Steam deck. This thing <v Speaker 1>is is certainly going to be expensive two hundred and <v Speaker 1>fifty dollars for a PlayStation portal today, and then that <v Speaker 1>doesn't have any of the real hardware in there to <v Speaker 1>run games. And then, like we're talking about comparing that <v Speaker 1>to what you would put in there today, that's not <v Speaker 1>what this thing is. This thing is you know four <v Speaker 1>Zen six uh yeah, six core processors. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's like going to have. <v Speaker 1>Twenty four gigabytes of low power d d R five <v Speaker 1>x memory. <v Speaker 2>That's gonna be. That's gonna be a lot right there. <v Speaker 1>Even even two years from now things settle down, it's <v Speaker 1>still going to be very expensive to put that in there. <v Speaker 1>The three and nanimeter TSMC process which has its benefits <v Speaker 1>of you know, talking about how big is this thing <v Speaker 1>going to be that should enable them to shrink down <v Speaker 1>the cooling structure of it. It should run pretty efficiently. <v Speaker 1>It's still going to get hot, it's still going to <v Speaker 1>need a fan, but it's going to have to be <v Speaker 1>not quite as big as you would think otherwise. <v Speaker 2>But that is also expensive. <v Speaker 1>So there's just all these things here that line up <v Speaker 1>to scream that this thing is going to cost quite <v Speaker 1>a lot of money, and they kind of can't pull <v Speaker 1>back on that because the whole promise here is this <v Speaker 1>is not a Vita, This is not a PSP. This <v Speaker 1>is a PS six on the go, not even a <v Speaker 1>PS five like a PS six, which is another reason <v Speaker 1>why I think they will find ways to keep the <v Speaker 1>PS five around, because probably this will be the kind <v Speaker 1>of thing that, hey, we'll keep making games with the <v Speaker 1>PS five, and that means they'll also just work for <v Speaker 1>the PS six handheld. But yeah, all of this effort, <v Speaker 1>I think it's probably gonna pay off, though, because when <v Speaker 1>I think about the next generation of consoles, I'm not <v Speaker 1>too excited in general, even outside of all the factors <v Speaker 1>of costs and how much I'm not playing my consoles <v Speaker 1>or whatever. It's just, you know, there's no gimmicks. The <v Speaker 1>games look as good as I need them to look. <v Speaker 1>The cost associated with producing a video game don't go <v Speaker 1>toward making it look that much more special. It just <v Speaker 1>kind of looks like, Hey, let's them across the finish <v Speaker 1>line at this point, and I don't need a whole <v Speaker 1>new console to get that feeling. That's kind of crazy. <v Speaker 1>But the idea of having a very convenient, all self <v Speaker 1>contained PlayStation device that I could just have with me, <v Speaker 1>not even necessarily on the go, but around the house <v Speaker 1>is very appealing to me, even more so than the portal, <v Speaker 1>which I like the idea of the portal, A lot <v Speaker 1>of people have been enjoying that, but this this would <v Speaker 1>be Hey, I can then also take it with me <v Speaker 1>on vacation or when I do leave the house, and <v Speaker 1>that makes it all very much worth it. What do <v Speaker 1>you think this is a good strategy for PlayStation to <v Speaker 1>be pursuing this as one of the big imis for <v Speaker 1>their next console generation. <v Speaker 2>I think so, Grub, I think so. <v Speaker 3>I mean we've seen the success of the Switch one, <v Speaker 3>the switch to the Steam Deck. You know, these other <v Speaker 3>handheld pecs have degrees of success, right like the Asis Rod, <v Speaker 3>the gosh I forget what it was called the Xbox Asis. <v Speaker 3>The basis Roger Ally yeah right, Alix Yeah, Alix like <v Speaker 3>had a decent amount of success, But then we've also <v Speaker 3>seen our fair share of ones that are complete duds, <v Speaker 3>like the gosh was it Lenovo or was it logitariy <v Speaker 3>the first Lenovo legion Go kind of just came and <v Speaker 3>went yeah. But I would hope and guesstimate that PlayStation <v Speaker 3>has been doing their R and D and they strike <v Speaker 3>a good middle ground between portability, which is the whole <v Speaker 3>goal of a portable system, right and condensing that experience <v Speaker 3>in that format. Would you want stuff to pop out <v Speaker 3>of this or would you want it to be like <v Speaker 3>a contained unit like esteemed? <v Speaker 1>I I think I would want stuff to pop out <v Speaker 1>just because handheld like I like having my handheld with <v Speaker 1>me more so than I like to treat it like <v Speaker 1>a precious little. <v Speaker 2>Thing that I have to keep safe. <v Speaker 1>And so that means occasionally the analog stick is going <v Speaker 1>to get a little scuffed, and I do want I <v Speaker 1>want it to be very easy to swap things in <v Speaker 1>and out, and so yeah, I would like to be able. <v Speaker 2>To detach the side controllers or whatever. That would be <v Speaker 2>nice Grub. <v Speaker 3>I've been I've been on this mountain yelling and no <v Speaker 3>one is listening to me. I've yelled this at Nintendo. <v Speaker 3>I've been at Valve and I've yelled this at them. <v Speaker 2>Is it time, Jan Crub PlayStation? <v Speaker 4>His wrist is so naked. PlayStation a watch, tam PlayStation. <v Speaker 4>Give me a watch that goes with this system? <v Speaker 2>Please? What would it do? Jan? That's not for me <v Speaker 2>to figure out. <v Speaker 1>You're right, that not your job. You just need to watch, <v Speaker 1>that's all you're demanding. Please? <v Speaker 2>I saw chapter. <v Speaker 1>But oh well, they treat this like PSVR and PSBR two. <v Speaker 1>I mean the idea here would be they wouldn't have <v Speaker 1>to worry about it because again, it won't be a FETA, <v Speaker 1>it won't be a PSB, It won't have its own <v Speaker 1>unique games that only run on that device. So they <v Speaker 1>don't have to distract the developers with making separate versions <v Speaker 1>of their games or going to Bend and being like, hey, <v Speaker 1>can you make a portable and Charted. They can just <v Speaker 1>have the PlayStation experience on the go in a full <v Speaker 1>fat form. And yeah, I think that does mean that <v Speaker 1>this becomes the baseline though, right Jam, because they can't <v Speaker 1>make games that don't run on it, and that's that's fine. <v Speaker 2>Excuse me, that's fine with me, Greg. <v Speaker 3>Would you I think it'd be interesting if this handheld <v Speaker 3>was considered the just the straight up PlayStation six and <v Speaker 3>you could do similar things where you can dock it <v Speaker 3>and everything or plug it into a TV, and then <v Speaker 3>the big boy, bigger console would already be called the <v Speaker 3>PlayStation six pro straight. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, right, not a bad idea, Yeah, I mean they <v Speaker 1>probably they I wonder if they would be hesitant to <v Speaker 1>do that because they're, like, we want to sell a <v Speaker 1>lot of those in the pros always sell less. <v Speaker 2>But I mean they're gonna sell less. <v Speaker 1>Because of the pricing, right, not necessarily because of the name, <v Speaker 1>and that that much more, that bigger and beefier home <v Speaker 1>console will just inherently be more expensive. Although you know, <v Speaker 1>this thing's shrunk down, it's probably not going to be <v Speaker 1>that much more expensive than this. Yeah, it's it's not <v Speaker 1>a bad idea, Jan because again, I just don't know <v Speaker 1>what these companies get out of pushing the hardware that <v Speaker 1>much more. You know, obviously there's probably some some things <v Speaker 1>wait wait, like waiting to be unlocked to make things <v Speaker 1>easier for developers, But does that show up on the <v Speaker 1>you know, the marketing side of things, where it's like <v Speaker 1>and now that's the reason you got to have this device, <v Speaker 1>so drop your money. I'm not seeing a lot of <v Speaker 1>evidence of that, but yeah, who knows. You know, they've <v Speaker 1>done things one way for a very long time, and <v Speaker 1>it's always worked for PlayStation. I expect them to keep <v Speaker 1>replicating that. I hope they just find a way to <v Speaker 1>sprinkle this in as like, here's a new way of <v Speaker 1>us executing on that idea. And obviously the handheld has <v Speaker 1>been proven to work, like you were saying, switch switch <v Speaker 1>to Steam deck a bunch of examples of that now. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, hopefully they can just make a really good <v Speaker 1>portable version of the PlayStation and that would be my my, <v Speaker 1>my main way of playing PlayStation games going forward. <v Speaker 2>I would love that one hundred percent. <v Speaker 3>My other requests grub, we've been desired, we've been we've <v Speaker 3>been asking for it as well. This is not a watch. <v Speaker 3>I'm not asking for a which I am asking for <v Speaker 3>a watch, but of course he's asking for a watch. <v Speaker 3>Just give me a sidekick style screen. Yeah, I mean <v Speaker 3>that'd be swagging as hell. <v Speaker 1>Something that just kind of like with that Sony consumer <v Speaker 1>electronics design, Like, you know, they're they're, they're, they're, they're <v Speaker 1>sort of high skill level on that stuff. I think <v Speaker 1>they could do a good job of just making that <v Speaker 1>thing pop out so it can kind of condense and <v Speaker 1>be smaller when it is. I mean, I don't think <v Speaker 1>this thing's going to fit in a pocket, but when <v Speaker 1>it's time to throw it in a bag, just make <v Speaker 1>it more condensed. <v Speaker 2>That would be fantastic. <v Speaker 3>This is why I'm so upset about the design of <v Speaker 3>the PS five, because a lot of other Sony electronics <v Speaker 3>look so slick and cool that I don't know who <v Speaker 3>they let into the room to make the PS five. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, And I was wondering, like, because I I do <v Speaker 1>like it ironically, and Mike doesn't like that. He likes it, <v Speaker 1>you know, genuinely and with his whole heart and whole chest. <v Speaker 1>But is this gonna be one of those things where <v Speaker 1>it's like we look back at that era of the <v Speaker 1>goofy Sony design where it's like it looked like liquid <v Speaker 1>metal falling apart or like or melting, and that's what <v Speaker 1>their CD player looked like in the nineties. And I'm like, <v Speaker 1>I don't think so, No, I think it's just I <v Speaker 1>think the PS five is just kind of off for <v Speaker 1>most people, and it won't be looked back upon too <v Speaker 1>fondly beyond the very core audience. <v Speaker 3>I want this PS six and the PS six handheld <v Speaker 3>to look like a blocky gundom. <v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah, hell yeah, let's go. All right. <v Speaker 1>Let's shift over to the Super Mario Galaxy movie, which <v Speaker 1>we had been talking about because of the reviews from critics, <v Speaker 1>which weren't too hot. In fact, they were pretty scathing. <v Speaker 1>The movie's gonna end cinema, jan I really, I can't <v Speaker 1>stop thinking about how funny that Haveline is. <v Speaker 2>It's so good. <v Speaker 1>But hey, it's doing all right at the box office <v Speaker 1>so far. The movie launched last night, and it is <v Speaker 1>let's see thirty four million dollars in one night, Arding <v Speaker 1>to Anthony Alessandro at Deadline. Out of the Gate, Illumination, Nintendo, <v Speaker 1>and Universals, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is already breaking <v Speaker 1>records with a thirty four million dollar Wednesday. That's the <v Speaker 1>best opening day so far this year, besting Amazon MGM <v Speaker 1>Studio's Project tail Mary, which rang up a thirty three <v Speaker 1>point one million Friday. <v Speaker 2>Slash previews, but it's also the. <v Speaker 1>Best opening Wednesday in April, beating twenty twenty threes the <v Speaker 1>Super Mario Brothers movie, which brought in thirty one point <v Speaker 1>seven million dollars. Keep in mind no previews of puffing <v Speaker 1>up that figure. That first chapter during Easter stretch. Twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty three went on to to post a three day <v Speaker 1>one hundred and forty six point three million and five <v Speaker 1>day two hundred four point six million, which was an <v Speaker 1>all time. <v Speaker 2>Opening for Illumination. <v Speaker 1>The forecast for this movie right now does say that <v Speaker 1>this movie's probably gonna still end up coming in a <v Speaker 1>bit short of that massive twenty twenty three haul for <v Speaker 1>the original movie, but it seems like it'll be It'll <v Speaker 1>be right there. So I definitely had questions about whether <v Speaker 1>they'd be able to replicate the excitement for the movie. <v Speaker 1>I knew a lot of families were going to go <v Speaker 1>see it. I knew it was gonna make a lot <v Speaker 1>of money. Was it going to be breaking any records <v Speaker 1>the way the first one did? I didn't think so, <v Speaker 1>because I'm like, people probably got their phil last time, <v Speaker 1>and it turns out, you know, with these family focused. <v Speaker 2>Movies that doesn't That's not how it works. <v Speaker 1>That that they're every like, I'm always looking for the <v Speaker 1>next reason to take the kids out to go do <v Speaker 1>something fun, and this is one of the better excuses <v Speaker 1>where it's like, oh, everyone in the family knows who <v Speaker 1>Mario is and has some experience with them, so we're <v Speaker 1>all going to get something out of this. So it's <v Speaker 1>kind of a no brainer, and there's not a lot <v Speaker 1>of those no brainers out there, and it's showing up <v Speaker 1>in these numbers, right, oh, one hundred percent. <v Speaker 3>Greg, you talk about like bringing the family to the movies, <v Speaker 3>and I can't quite place the last time there's been <v Speaker 3>a gigantic movie that appeals to everyone, because I feel <v Speaker 3>like the casting also of the Super Mario movies is <v Speaker 3>targeted such a way that it will get older audiences in. Right, <v Speaker 3>you don't just cast Donald Glover and not expect him <v Speaker 3>to draw in that millennial millennial audience, not only that <v Speaker 3>has already drawn to the Super Mario movies because of <v Speaker 3>the IP, but also because like, oh, hey, I like <v Speaker 3>Glenn Powell. I kind of remember Star Fox. I like <v Speaker 3>Benny Safti. He's the weird actor, one of the Safti brothers. <v Speaker 3>So this was a no brainer. I don't know why <v Speaker 3>critics were so up their own asses thinking that this <v Speaker 3>was going to be the death of cinema and not <v Speaker 3>acknowledging that the the the greater balance grub of you <v Speaker 3>need this type of movie to draw people into the theaters. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I just you know what that they <v Speaker 1>can only view it on their own, like from their <v Speaker 1>own experience, right, and they're if you're going in there <v Speaker 1>and you don't have that value, or you don't have <v Speaker 1>that experience with Mario, or you don't value it the <v Speaker 1>same way. I am not surprised that many of them <v Speaker 1>went into it and were like this is physically painful <v Speaker 1>for me to sit through. And I don't have sort <v Speaker 1>of any problems with the reviews. I was just like, <v Speaker 1>this is it's kind of funny how hyperbolic these these <v Speaker 1>headlines are, and you know, I just I know it's <v Speaker 1>not the end of cinema, that's all. So when I <v Speaker 1>saw that one, I'm like, it's not the end of cinema. <v Speaker 1>We're gonna be just fine. But I really enjoy actually <v Speaker 1>reading those reviews because it's like, oh man, this must <v Speaker 1>be how it feels if you're someone who's like the <v Speaker 1>souper like I am super into games and you get <v Speaker 1>some some like real slop and people are like, oh <v Speaker 1>my god, this is the best thing ever. <v Speaker 2>It's like, yeah, I know how you feel about this. <v Speaker 1>I'm just gonna have a different experience because my expectations <v Speaker 1>are so divorced from what yours are that I know <v Speaker 1>this doesn't really matter all that much. <v Speaker 3>We are in a post Sonic three world in cinema, yes, right, so, <v Speaker 3>and I don't for as much as I enjoy the <v Speaker 3>Sonic movies, I don't think that they bring out any <v Speaker 3>deep emotional connection. It is I'm not sobbing at the <v Speaker 3>theaters like I am when I'm watching Hamnet or like <v Speaker 3>a different Chloe Jao film. But again, this is like <v Speaker 3>that popcorn entertainment. This is like the Top Gun Maverick, <v Speaker 3>but for families, where like, right, we're all going to <v Speaker 3>enjoy something here, and it may not be critically received well, but. <v Speaker 2>Like, guys, it's not gonna it's no one's gonna You <v Speaker 2>will be okay, we will be okay. <v Speaker 1>I expect to come out of this movie and have <v Speaker 1>the same criticisms as I had last time, which is <v Speaker 1>there's not much there. I I believe that they could <v Speaker 1>do something more interesting with Mario if they wanted to, <v Speaker 1>it's obviously they don't want to. And at a certain point, <v Speaker 1>like when they're making this much money, I got to <v Speaker 1>just be like, they're not gonna make that movie for me? <v Speaker 2>Did I? <v Speaker 1>So can I get something out of the thing that <v Speaker 1>actually exists before my very eyes? I'm gonna sort of <v Speaker 1>just put aside my my fantasy booking of like what <v Speaker 1>I would really want here and just try to enjoy this. <v Speaker 1>So that's where I'm at, Like I'm not gonna I'm <v Speaker 1>not gonna tilt Win Mills with this one. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, two things, Greb. This just feels like a con <v Speaker 3>candy movie, you know, very pretty to look atugar. It's sugar, <v Speaker 3>pure sugar to consume. And then the second thing is <v Speaker 3>whenever I see a lot of like dour and negativity <v Speaker 3>towards something, especially from like a critic standpoint, it was <v Speaker 3>Chuck that said this to me that it is exponentially <v Speaker 3>harder to try and explain why you do enjoy something. <v Speaker 3>And I'm sure these critics for even though they're like <v Speaker 3>cowering in their seats, cringing in their seats, and a <v Speaker 3>lot of them, I would completely respect. I hope they <v Speaker 3>cracked a smile at least once. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I mean I bet there's especially if you <v Speaker 1>do bring any sort of Mario nostalgia in there. <v Speaker 2>That's what they're playing on. I get it. <v Speaker 1>Well, you know, we can actually touch on that. Audiences <v Speaker 1>do seem to mostly like it. It's not as good <v Speaker 1>as as it did last time, where you know, at <v Speaker 1>fifty nine critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes for the first movie, <v Speaker 1>and then the audience Tomato meter was ninety five percent. <v Speaker 1>Now it's forty two percent for critics and ninety one <v Speaker 1>percent for audiences. <v Speaker 2>Still very good. That's that's better than most movies. <v Speaker 1>And it's like, yeah, at a certain point, like, what <v Speaker 1>are you trying to do with the film, Are you <v Speaker 1>just trying to get people a fun ride of an <v Speaker 1>experience something that they that is you know, sugar is <v Speaker 1>still substance, right, It is still a substance. It's is <v Speaker 1>it nourishing, No, but it's it is something that people <v Speaker 1>do crave and look for. And I think like we <v Speaker 1>could set that there and be like it's not doing <v Speaker 1>all these other things that I think like a Lego <v Speaker 1>movie does or any sort of decent Pixar film and <v Speaker 1>and those are also family movies, and those also often <v Speaker 1>make a lot of money. So why couldn't they just <v Speaker 1>do that with this? Well they didn't. They wanted They <v Speaker 1>went for the sugary route. Can you get any enjoyment <v Speaker 1>out of that? Ninety one percent of people are saying yes, <v Speaker 1>I can, and fair enough. <v Speaker 3>You know the other movie franchise, I guess now it's <v Speaker 3>a franchise that you think about grub is the Five <v Speaker 3>Nights at Freddy's movie. Yes, we're at two, We're probably <v Speaker 3>gonna get a third. And those are gigantic hits, because <v Speaker 3>that is an ip that, even though it's it's framed <v Speaker 3>as horror, still appeals to kids. And then like the <v Speaker 3>horror freaks out there that are just looking for the <v Speaker 3>newest scare or the newest uh horror movie are are <v Speaker 3>flocking to it as well. It's interesting to see the <v Speaker 3>divide from critical reception and general audience reception. <v Speaker 2>I uh so, I'm seen it Friday. <v Speaker 1>I will be curious to see like where I land finally, <v Speaker 1>because I'm like, you know, I have like this sort <v Speaker 1>of this small spectrum of possibilities where it's like, oh, <v Speaker 1>you know what they did make some small improvements to <v Speaker 1>what bothered me a little bit with the first movie, <v Speaker 1>and it's still that movie again, and that was what <v Speaker 1>I was expecting so great. Or it follows the path <v Speaker 1>of a lot of recent animated family movie sequels where <v Speaker 1>it's like they just did more and because of that, <v Speaker 1>it is more forgettable and I can kind of leave <v Speaker 1>it behind even faster than I did the first one. <v Speaker 1>That's you know, that's Wreck at Ralph, That's that is <v Speaker 1>Utopia too. That's a bunch of these movies recently, So <v Speaker 1>I think that's a possibility here. <v Speaker 3>For me personally, I'm I'm very I feel like I <v Speaker 3>will watch the movie this weekend grub and think, Wow, <v Speaker 3>that was fun, or wow that was okay. I like <v Speaker 3>Donald Glover. <v Speaker 1>Yep. I see people like, oh, this is just like <v Speaker 1>the Crimson Desert thing, but in reverse. Yeah, I don't <v Speaker 1>see it that way, But I know that's also completely <v Speaker 1>fair if people feel that way. Where I am looking <v Speaker 1>at Crimson Desert as a critic with a critical eye <v Speaker 1>of someone who has thought about video games a lot, <v Speaker 1>and if someone went into the Mario movie as a <v Speaker 1>movie critic and thought about thinks about movies a lot, <v Speaker 1>and what the medium can do, and that's why they <v Speaker 1>don't like that. Fuck yeah, give me that review. I <v Speaker 1>write a bunch of those, and I'm like, I'm glad <v Speaker 1>you wrote the review that way. And someone should be <v Speaker 1>saying that about any sort of project that comes down, <v Speaker 1>any sort of movie that comes out. Someone should be <v Speaker 1>standing up and being like, this is a medium worth <v Speaker 1>thinking deeply about. And I think video games are worthy <v Speaker 1>of that. And that's my job. It's not my job <v Speaker 1>to do that for movies. So my job is to <v Speaker 1>take the family to a dumb thing and have a <v Speaker 1>good time. And if it is sugary and forgettable, and <v Speaker 1>if that's what we're saying, Crimson Desert is fair. I <v Speaker 1>don't think it's even that sugary. I think it's kind <v Speaker 1>of has a lot of bad crunch to it. But <v Speaker 1>that's my experience. <v Speaker 3>It's it's like kind of like a jawbreaker in my opinion. <v Speaker 2>Yes, a little bit. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's go ahead and take a break. Well, <v Speaker 1>we got plenty more switch news to hit on after <v Speaker 1>we come back, as well as just drama in the <v Speaker 1>speed running scene. <v Speaker 2>I can't wait to get to that. <v Speaker 1>I had to like get a little creative because yesterday <v Speaker 1>was April Fool's Day, and I'm like, oh, I started <v Speaker 1>to fault the news and then I saw that one. <v Speaker 2>I'm like, I'm just gonna include it. No matter what. <v Speaker 1>If you want to skip out on the ads we're <v Speaker 1>about to go to, you can do that. Go to <v Speaker 1>GiantBomb dot com slash join become a premium member. Once <v Speaker 1>you do that, you can go to the site and <v Speaker 1>get ad free versions of the audio and video show. <v Speaker 1>In the meantime, though, we will be right back. All right, <v Speaker 1>We're back for game mes morning. That's Janichoa. I'm Jeff Grubb. <v Speaker 1>Let's get right back into it. Switch two price is <v Speaker 1>going to have to go up eventually. Former Nintendo sales <v Speaker 1>lead says. This is from Chris Scullion at VGC. Nintendo <v Speaker 1>will eventually have no choice but to increase the price <v Speaker 1>of the switch to hardware, a former Nintendo sales lead says. <v Speaker 1>In an interview on Kitt and krista podcast, the former <v Speaker 1>Nintendo employee, who is referred to simply as Quote Sean, <v Speaker 1>was asked about Sony's recent PS five price hike and <v Speaker 1>whether Nintendo would follow suit. Sean replied that while Nintendo <v Speaker 1>will likely do its best to resist increasing the switch <v Speaker 1>to price for as long as possible. He feels it <v Speaker 1>is inevitable that an increase will come eventually, and that <v Speaker 1>Nintendo's recent decision to sell digital games for less than <v Speaker 1>physical games in the US may be an attempt to <v Speaker 1>soften any backlash. Unfortunately, I think the I think eventually <v Speaker 1>the hardware price is going to have to go up, <v Speaker 1>he said. I think that there's things that they can <v Speaker 1>and seem to be doing to try to mitigate that. <v Speaker 1>But I also look at this move on software as <v Speaker 1>if I'm reading it a way to make a hardware <v Speaker 1>price increase. <v Speaker 2>A little bit more palatable. <v Speaker 1>We've seen info inflation being a problem for a while now. <v Speaker 1>Tariffs are a more recent nuisance, but they're not going <v Speaker 1>away anytime soon. The demand that AIS is causing for <v Speaker 1>chips is causing memory prices to go up, and you know, <v Speaker 1>within the last couple of weeks we have issues with <v Speaker 1>oil prices going through the roof. And when oil goes <v Speaker 1>through the roof, that's not just shipping costs that goes up. <v Speaker 1>There's you know, you can imagine to get to the <v Speaker 1>games from whatever, to get the games from wherever they're <v Speaker 1>being manufactured to the warehouse, to the retailers, to the shelf. <v Speaker 1>That's going to drive prices up. And this is another <v Speaker 1>one that I've been looking at too recently. He continues <v Speaker 1>to go on here, But there's other things that people <v Speaker 1>may not realize. Helium is a byproduct of producing oil. <v Speaker 1>Helium is a key and unreplaceable ingredient in making semiconductors, <v Speaker 1>which means hardware prices go up even more. It's an <v Speaker 1>un replaceable byproduct of making silicon wafers, which means if <v Speaker 1>you're Nintendo and you're producing cartridges, that's going to go <v Speaker 1>up as well. So helium is the substance on Earth <v Speaker 1>that we can make the coldest. It's the coldest thing <v Speaker 1>on Earth when we do make it, and it's in <v Speaker 1>a certain form, and that is crucial to making these <v Speaker 1>silicon wafers. <v Speaker 2>It's like and there's a. <v Speaker 1>Finite amount of it unless you are getting it, as <v Speaker 1>I brought a byproduct through oil, and if you run <v Speaker 1>out of supply, you just can't make your processors anymore. <v Speaker 1>You cannot make the chips that the game ships on, <v Speaker 1>the nand memory, the nand flash memory, and so that <v Speaker 1>like a lot of these companies are running into that <v Speaker 1>already already, and it's gonna get worse here pretty soon <v Speaker 1>before it gets better. So I think Jim when he <v Speaker 1>talks about being being inevitable to me, it's like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>we do see them trying to maneuver and avoid raising <v Speaker 1>prices as much as they can, but it does feel <v Speaker 1>like they've done a lot already, and that was when <v Speaker 1>they were probably thinking inflation and oh no, these tariffs <v Speaker 1>are pretty bad. And now we've listed three or four <v Speaker 1>other reasons why price pressures might be increasing, or prices <v Speaker 1>might be increasing due to other pressures, and like they <v Speaker 1>were not expecting that. So it feels inevitable because there's <v Speaker 1>there could be even more reasons why prices are going <v Speaker 1>to go up around the core a corner waiting for them, <v Speaker 1>and they have to be ready for that as well <v Speaker 1>as dealing with what's right in front of them. <v Speaker 3>The thing that I'm hearing Grub is I should be <v Speaker 3>going to my local party supply store and buying as <v Speaker 3>much helium as possible. Yes, so I should just be <v Speaker 3>sitting on a bunch of helium tanks that I can <v Speaker 3>try and sell back to Nintendo. <v Speaker 2>I think. So it's time to invest in helium. <v Speaker 1>Now, that could be a situation where I think that's <v Speaker 1>it's like helium three, And I don't think that's what <v Speaker 1>you get at at party city wells of helium. That's yes, <v Speaker 1>might not know that, Yeah helium three, Yeah, you're mislabel <v Speaker 1>it on eBay and then dip. <v Speaker 3>My new concern grub with this helium heist is what <v Speaker 3>if I accrue too much helium that my house just <v Speaker 3>starts floating away. <v Speaker 1>Well, then you're just in an up situation and that <v Speaker 1>was always where you were destined to end up. <v Speaker 3>Jan So yes, yes, both as Russell and the Old <v Speaker 3>Man and the Dog, the Holy Trinity. <v Speaker 1>Actually they did a fusion dance. <v Speaker 3>But you know, everything that Sean was saying kind of <v Speaker 3>felt like a no brainer. It just felt like, oh, <v Speaker 3>you know, the rising tide is coming or high tide <v Speaker 3>is coming. Of course, price is going to eventually climb <v Speaker 3>up on the switch to But the insight about helium <v Speaker 3>is interesting and now and just like a fun little <v Speaker 3>fact that I learned today. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I've heard like the helium shortages for <v Speaker 1>a while apparently, and I could be misremembering. So if <v Speaker 1>there's anyone who's actually an expert on the stuff in chat. <v Speaker 1>Feel free to yell at me, but like they store <v Speaker 1>helium in caves and like that the cave like helium <v Speaker 1>storage is running low, and so they're like even people <v Speaker 1>are saying even Party City doesn't have a lot of helium. <v Speaker 1>I'd say, okay, So, man, that's that's a weird thing <v Speaker 1>to have to deal with. <v Speaker 3>Do the employees or cave dwell cave people that have <v Speaker 3>to go inside the helium caves? Do they have to <v Speaker 3>wear a gas mask and fear that their voices are <v Speaker 3>gonna go up? <v Speaker 1>That's why the mold people sound so strange, Jan, That's <v Speaker 1>just that's how it works. <v Speaker 2>That's science. Brother. Wow, yep, we learned. We learn a <v Speaker 2>lot of new stuff on the show. Absolutely. I was <v Speaker 2>born in one of those caves. Thank you, Chat. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's let's keep going here. Analytics firm says <v Speaker 1>Nintendo Switch and Switch to third party ecosystem sales are <v Speaker 1>up seventy six percent in twenty twenty five. <v Speaker 2>This is from my Nintendo News. <v Speaker 1>Video games analytics firm and peer Is reported that combined <v Speaker 1>third party software sales on the Nintendo Switch and Switch <v Speaker 1>to have helped boost third party video game sales in <v Speaker 1>the Switch ecosystem to two point three billion dollars from <v Speaker 1>the second quarter of twenty twenty five through the fourth <v Speaker 1>quarter of twenty twenty five. The firm also reveals that <v Speaker 1>the third party sales are up seventy six percent year <v Speaker 1>on year, as they were one point three billion dollars <v Speaker 1>over the same period in twenty twenty four. Warner Brothers <v Speaker 1>was the big one to benefit here. Apparently Hogwarts legacy <v Speaker 1>continues just to pick up a lot of that juice. <v Speaker 1>It's wild how that continues to happen still, and then <v Speaker 1>ban Dynamico and EA also saw the benefit of this, <v Speaker 1>So ja I'm trying to like, look at that timeline. <v Speaker 1>Q two of twenty twenty five is when the Switch <v Speaker 1>to launched, right, Yes, so there's probably some just like <v Speaker 1>extra money going around from people who are excited about <v Speaker 1>the new hardware, being like I'm gonna get Mario Kart <v Speaker 1>and maybe a couple other games, and it just feels <v Speaker 1>like inevitably one or two of those games might end <v Speaker 1>up being third party. So my question would be, do <v Speaker 1>you think this is momentum that is building and will <v Speaker 1>be sustained throughout the generation and grow as switch to <v Speaker 1>becomes a better platform for third party games, or is <v Speaker 1>this like an early blip. <v Speaker 3>I want to hope it's it's more of the former <v Speaker 3>grub that it is going to be an other safe <v Speaker 3>haven for third party games and other indie games, like <v Speaker 3>whenever it is an option to get a code for <v Speaker 3>a game. Lately, I've been leaning if there's a switch <v Speaker 3>to version, switch to version, Yeah, go get the switch <v Speaker 3>to version. That being my second choice after PC versus <v Speaker 3>choosing an Xbox or PS five console code. And I <v Speaker 3>hope that this is the start of bigger and better things. <v Speaker 3>We've seen that you've played through r E nine all <v Speaker 3>on the switch to so it is definitely capable of <v Speaker 3>handling a full experience like Resident Evil nine, and then <v Speaker 3>not only that, but the first party support stuff like <v Speaker 3>Pacopia has been doing gangbusters. We're going to get to <v Speaker 3>Tomadaci life in a second. But I hope RI nine <v Speaker 3>is like a good It is a step in the <v Speaker 3>right direction for third party games. I'm confident Pragmata is <v Speaker 3>going to be completely fine on the switch to. Capcom <v Speaker 3>is doing a lot of work to make sure that <v Speaker 3>those switch two games are are running well and on <v Speaker 3>top of like the bigger publishers out there, I hope <v Speaker 3>that there's a lot of indie success on the switch <v Speaker 3>to as well. <v Speaker 2>Is Peak available on the switch To on consoles? I <v Speaker 2>think it's stead only PC only, right, it. <v Speaker 1>Might be PC only. I don't know Peak on consoles. <v Speaker 1>H Peak the Columbia is not currently available on consoles, <v Speaker 1>so there's still yet. <v Speaker 3>To pull that, if and when that happens, and if <v Speaker 3>that team is capable of making it happen on the <v Speaker 3>switch to that with game chat. <v Speaker 1>Grub, yes, I mean I think for a lot of <v Speaker 1>those friends slop like part like party hangout games that <v Speaker 1>have been popping off online with proximity chat, Uh yeah, <v Speaker 1>I think incorporating that with game chat and having the <v Speaker 1>cameras and then still using the end game prox chat <v Speaker 1>is a really fun, untapped concept that I think a <v Speaker 1>couple of these games are are going to leverage and <v Speaker 1>find some success with. <v Speaker 2>I think. <v Speaker 1>Like the question marks for me are coming out of <v Speaker 1>Resident Evil nine and be playing that and being like <v Speaker 1>this is not just acceptable. It is a completely great <v Speaker 1>way to play this game. It's not the best way, <v Speaker 1>but I thought it was fantastic, And so the switch <v Speaker 1>to is sort of proven itself to me that it <v Speaker 1>could be a good platform for current modern releases of <v Speaker 1>Big tripa a third party games, something that the Switch <v Speaker 1>one never really was. And so okay, you know it's <v Speaker 1>true for now, it might might not be true going <v Speaker 1>into the future. I don't think that a lot of <v Speaker 1>people still recognize that yet, or if they do, they're like, well, yeah, <v Speaker 1>it was rising at Evil nine. Come back to me <v Speaker 1>when it's like five to six games in a row <v Speaker 1>that all came out on the PlayStation five, the Xbox series, XPC, <v Speaker 1>and switch To and the switch To version is kind <v Speaker 1>of standing shoulder to shoulder with all of those, then <v Speaker 1>I could sort of start buying into this ecosystem for <v Speaker 1>those kinds of games, for endie games. It's got to <v Speaker 1>continue to be like one of the key homes for <v Speaker 1>those where it's like people like to play games on <v Speaker 1>their switch and they like these littler games, and that's <v Speaker 1>just a match made in heaven. <v Speaker 2>That was true on the Switch one. <v Speaker 1>It was always the eas and these other publishers that <v Speaker 1>never really found a home on switch And you know <v Speaker 1>that's true going back to many previous Nintendo consoles as well. Now, <v Speaker 1>while that's been true. The Switch was the first time <v Speaker 1>I think Nintendo sold more than a billion pieces of <v Speaker 1>software between itself and all of its partners on one <v Speaker 1>of its consoles, and so people did buy a lot <v Speaker 1>of games for that thing. I'd hoped that there was <v Speaker 1>a lot of them out there for sure, but still <v Speaker 1>selling more than a billion pieces of software is huge. <v Speaker 1>They want to continue that, so if they can, I <v Speaker 1>think they had there's a chance to carry some of <v Speaker 1>this momentum forward. I don't think it sort of flips <v Speaker 1>the narrative on its head though, where suddenly everyone's just <v Speaker 1>buying their third party games on the switch to. <v Speaker 2>Obviously that's not. <v Speaker 3>The cards unless, like we see a massive dip in <v Speaker 3>like engagement with the PS five because of the cost <v Speaker 3>just skyrocketing and the folks just clamoring for stuff they <v Speaker 3>can only get on a switch to. It's funny, though, <v Speaker 3>because I also feel like a lot of this motion, <v Speaker 3>at least in the indie scene, is kind of just <v Speaker 3>not really acknowledged by Nintendo. Sure, we'll have our like <v Speaker 3>Nintendo Indie World Showcase, but like when I think of <v Speaker 3>like the Switch one, some of these standout titles for <v Speaker 3>that is not just the first party Nintendo stuff. But <v Speaker 3>I think of dead cells. I think of Hades, yes, <v Speaker 3>and with the switch too, I think of like. <v Speaker 1>That's my Hades two machine, and that was like the <v Speaker 1>one Nintendo adopted, right, Nintendo adopted Hades two is like <v Speaker 1>one of its own. And then it doesn't go to <v Speaker 1>It doesn't like do that frequently. It does that every <v Speaker 1>once in a while. <v Speaker 3>Grub, We're we could totally see a world where Zagarias <v Speaker 3>or Melina way show. <v Speaker 2>Up in a Smash game. <v Speaker 1>Huh oh yes, I think, yes, Zagarace is going to <v Speaker 1>be in Smash in one way or another for sure. <v Speaker 1>But I think could just straight up be a character <v Speaker 1>in a new Smash Brothers game. Yes, that's possible. That <v Speaker 1>would be awesome. I would really I would actually prefer Molina, <v Speaker 1>I think, but I think it's Zagris that they pick. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's keep going here. Yes, did I do <v Speaker 1>this one? <v Speaker 3>No? <v Speaker 1>Tomodacci Life Living the Dream, Fact details seventy me limit <v Speaker 1>and Nintendo Switch to improvements, and those are the two <v Speaker 1>big things I want to talk about. But this is <v Speaker 1>from Nintendo everything. Let's go over some of these questions <v Speaker 1>that they answered in the Fact save data and islands. <v Speaker 1>There are not shared islands between users. Everyone on a <v Speaker 1>console gets their own island that has their own mes <v Speaker 1>and its own story going on. So it's not like <v Speaker 1>I can bring my mea to your island, sort of <v Speaker 1>like Animal Crossing and have it. And I'm thinking of <v Speaker 1>the original Animal Crossing now, I actually don't remember if <v Speaker 1>that's how well, no, that is how it worked, because <v Speaker 1>Animal Crossing New Horizons on Switch one jan that was <v Speaker 1>like one island per system. <v Speaker 2>That was very weird. <v Speaker 1>It's not like that at all here, Okay, as far <v Speaker 1>as Nintendo switched to compatibility. This was a question to me, <v Speaker 1>Jacuz I've been playing that demo and I got the <v Speaker 1>demo right after Nintendo Switch boost Mode got released, which <v Speaker 1>is that function on the switch to that makes Switch <v Speaker 1>one games run as if they're being docked so that <v Speaker 1>you can get ten ADP. And it was curious in <v Speaker 1>this case because the demo on Plane is the Switch <v Speaker 1>one release and because of that, it was running in <v Speaker 1>boost mode, so I couldn't use the touch screen, and <v Speaker 1>I was like, oh, why can't I use Why isn't <v Speaker 1>this working? And then eventually if you press the touch <v Speaker 1>screen enough times, a system level icon pops up it's like, <v Speaker 1>you know, you're in boost mode, touch screen's not going <v Speaker 1>to work. It was like, oh, okay, weird, So I <v Speaker 1>guess I really hope there's a Nintendo switch to version. <v Speaker 2>Well sounds like there will be. <v Speaker 1>The game is playable on both the original switch and <v Speaker 1>switch To. Playing on the switch to offers advantages like <v Speaker 1>reduced loading times and the game chat feature requires a <v Speaker 1>Nintendo Switch online, and then the switch to handheld modes. <v Speaker 1>The answer there is the game runs at a higher <v Speaker 1>ten ADP resolution in handheld mode on the switch to <v Speaker 1>and does not support the handheld handheld mode boost feature, <v Speaker 1>so they will turning that off and instead just running <v Speaker 1>it in a basically native way on the switch to, <v Speaker 1>so you could still. <v Speaker 2>Use the handheld touchscreen mode. So they thought about that. <v Speaker 1>That is that is nice. <v Speaker 2>And then the other big headline here is the seventy <v Speaker 2>meter limit. <v Speaker 1>I say that's a big headline because in the community <v Speaker 1>over there on the Tomodachi Life subreddit, this has been <v Speaker 1>a big point of contention. They're like, what's the limit <v Speaker 1>going to be? I need to have endless means. I <v Speaker 1>want to have two hundred me's on my islanch. Do <v Speaker 1>all kinds of crazy shit, you can only have seventy, <v Speaker 1>although that certainly seems like enough to me. <v Speaker 3>I will say that seems enough for me. That's enough <v Speaker 3>for our crew plus the extended family. And then I <v Speaker 3>guess the people I know in real life. <v Speaker 1>Yep, yes, exactly like I want, right, I want my <v Speaker 1>immediate family. I want you guys, I want, And then <v Speaker 1>I want basically just w WCW wrestlers from the nineties <v Speaker 1>and in Walluigi shack shat, shack, of course, shack and shat. <v Speaker 2>You know that's yeah, of course. <v Speaker 3>And then I like about them, the various genital people <v Speaker 3>that people are, Yes, the buttholes and the ppees. <v Speaker 1>Yes, they're just a whole island of that. <v Speaker 3>Oh god, there's gonna be a whole island of. <v Speaker 1>That pp island. Welcome everybody. <v Speaker 3>Uh. <v Speaker 1>There's some other stuff here about me, gender and relationships, <v Speaker 1>which people did get a good look at in the demo, <v Speaker 1>and it did seem really well done. Players could choose male, female, <v Speaker 1>or other for a me's gender, and this does not <v Speaker 1>affect the core game. For romantic partners, players could choose male, female, other, <v Speaker 1>or a combination. Relationships and babies can occur regardless of <v Speaker 1>the chosen gender system it's they're setting. It's just going <v Speaker 1>to function the way it always does. And then social <v Speaker 1>media sharing, they are saying that that is pretty limited. <v Speaker 1>Posting images and video of the game on social media <v Speaker 1>is permitted subject to Nintendo's guideline and the social media <v Speaker 1>platform's rules. However, some console functions like direct posting or <v Speaker 1>automatic image uploading are not supported for content captured from <v Speaker 1>this game, So they are going to put a little <v Speaker 1>bit of a roadblock up. I wonder what if that's <v Speaker 1>something they get rid of eventually, because it's not. It <v Speaker 1>already hasn't stopped no, like the sharing of PP Island <v Speaker 1>Jan So I just don't know what they think they're <v Speaker 1>doing here. <v Speaker 3>I feel like it is the whole family aspect that <v Speaker 3>is keeping them from doing it. But I hope this <v Speaker 3>is one of those rare instances where NINTA is like <v Speaker 3>all right, fine, yeah, I mean, I'm glad they're like, <v Speaker 3>all right, fline, this is for Nintendo. Almost feels like <v Speaker 3>the best case scenario of like we're gonna wash our <v Speaker 3>hands of it and we're not gonna help you share <v Speaker 3>your perversions and your dirty little memes, but you can <v Speaker 3>do it if you have your own ways of accomplishing that, <v Speaker 3>because we're in a very different space than we were <v Speaker 3>with the original Tomadacci Life coming out. You know, like <v Speaker 3>streaming is a gigantic part of the culture now and <v Speaker 3>sharing and shareable clips, short form video that a lot <v Speaker 3>of those streamers, a lot of those short form videos <v Speaker 3>will push sales of because people want to engage with <v Speaker 3>the silliness, the goofiness. <v Speaker 2>Or see Pepe Island for themselves. <v Speaker 3>So I hope Nintendo just makes it easier to share, <v Speaker 3>and if that is a thing that they actually do, <v Speaker 3>I think that is good news for other online sharing <v Speaker 3>support for Nintendo things, perhaps of a Mario making variety. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, right, exactly. They'd have similar concerns there as well. <v Speaker 2>I'm sure. <v Speaker 1>I think hopefully what happens here is they get out <v Speaker 1>of the blast radius of the launch when they would <v Speaker 1>probably expect the most like unhinged stuff to happen, because <v Speaker 1>the people who are you know, just trying to poke <v Speaker 1>around and see what's possible, see what they see, the <v Speaker 1>naughtiest thing they can do that will wear off pretty quickly. <v Speaker 1>They won't ever go away, It'll wear off pretty quickly. <v Speaker 1>For the vast majority of people. So maybe we get <v Speaker 1>six months out and they're like, ah, we turned that on. <v Speaker 1>For the people who are still really playing this, I <v Speaker 1>would I would be completely happy with that. Again, for me, <v Speaker 1>this is the best case scenario because I would much <v Speaker 1>rather have all the uncensored options and and have Nintendo <v Speaker 1>sensor sharing on the back end, as opposed to them <v Speaker 1>going in there and trying to figure out some filter. <v Speaker 1>That's just gonna make it annoying for to like do <v Speaker 1>something that is actually maybe probably not like innocent arnocuous <v Speaker 1>and just has a weird like little phrase in there <v Speaker 1>that they might get through their filter. That's that never <v Speaker 1>makes for a fun time. <v Speaker 3>No, And I also, uh, this is just a journal <v Speaker 3>curiosity grub because I'm not super familiar with Tomadacci life <v Speaker 3>at least the original. <v Speaker 2>Can these die? <v Speaker 1>I don't think so? Okay, yeah I don't think so. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>this is it has a lot in common with the sims, <v Speaker 1>but it's much more laid back even than that. <v Speaker 2>So I don't know. <v Speaker 3>I just want a Viking funeral for some means. I <v Speaker 3>just think that'd be I mean, man, maybe you couldn't. <v Speaker 1>Maybe maybe eventually, like we'll crack the system open and <v Speaker 1>we'll modit, we'll add all that stuff ourselves. <v Speaker 2>It'll be a good time, lovely. <v Speaker 3>But like all of the cliffs that I've been seeing <v Speaker 3>just from the demo alone grub are like absolutely hilarious. <v Speaker 1>It's very funny. And it's even like seeing the same <v Speaker 1>scenes like just different characters or different topics. It's funny <v Speaker 1>kind of every time. So far, it's like we have <v Speaker 1>only seen a very very very small fraction of what's <v Speaker 1>in there. I think that that will be the question, <v Speaker 1>how a robust how far does it go? Is it <v Speaker 1>sort of like a one note game? Or are they <v Speaker 1>able to elaborate on it and introduce a lot of <v Speaker 1>different ideas. <v Speaker 2>I hope so grab like. <v Speaker 3>An interesting twist and other difference from in our our <v Speaker 3>I guess general monoculture and culture as a society is <v Speaker 3>that reality TV wasn't as big of a thing, specifically <v Speaker 3>dating reality TV shows, and like the prevalence of just <v Speaker 3>like Kardashian style shows right wasn't as big with the <v Speaker 3>original Tomadaci Life coming out this, I could see people <v Speaker 3>just making certain like tableaus of scenes and re enacting <v Speaker 3>like other moments or or creating the shareable content through <v Speaker 3>this it's going to be bonkers. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I want I want more confessional style interviews in <v Speaker 1>Tomodacci life. <v Speaker 2>That would be great, all right. <v Speaker 1>Coin pusher roguelike Raccoin hit a massive Steam sales milestone <v Speaker 1>in just twenty four hours. This is from Jen Glennon <v Speaker 1>at Polygon. Shout out to gen fans of Balatro take note. <v Speaker 1>There's a new rift on the Moorish number goes up <v Speaker 1>genre on the scene, and it's already doing some impressive <v Speaker 1>numbers on Steam. Reccoin, a coin pusher roguelike builder which <v Speaker 1>we just did a quick look of, where you combine <v Speaker 1>special coins and powerful items to trigger massive payoffs, launched <v Speaker 1>on March thirty first. The very next day, on April first, <v Speaker 1>the team at developer Dora Coon Dora Raccoon shared on <v Speaker 1>Blue Sky that Racoin had sold more than one hundred <v Speaker 1>thousand copies on Steam in just the past twenty four hours. <v Speaker 1>That the game is obviously just popping off. <v Speaker 2>I did see it doing very well. <v Speaker 1>A lot of people were playing it concurrently on Steam. <v Speaker 1>It goes to show like there's room in this genre. <v Speaker 1>People have realized very quickly. Oh, I'm a fan of <v Speaker 1>these things and I want to get on the next <v Speaker 1>new hot one one that is that continues to be <v Speaker 1>like one of the powerful aspects of a platform like <v Speaker 1>Steam where these games usually are happening first, where people <v Speaker 1>really quickly recognize that this is something new. I tried it, <v Speaker 1>I love it, I know why I like it, and <v Speaker 1>so I'm on the lookout for the next thing that <v Speaker 1>is going for it. And then on the other side <v Speaker 1>of the developers, I think playstack is involved in this <v Speaker 1>as well. Yeah, yeah, it's like playtack, just like we <v Speaker 1>will laser target you guys. Then if you're gonna show <v Speaker 1>if you're promising to show up, we'll laser target you <v Speaker 1>with the thing you're looking for, and we'll work with <v Speaker 1>the developer to make sure they know the best way <v Speaker 1>to make a game that will appeal to you. And <v Speaker 1>it just seems like everyone knows what they're doing in <v Speaker 1>this and it's cool to see it working out. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's great for the devs, and I think it's <v Speaker 3>something to be said grub about smaller games in general, right, Yes, <v Speaker 3>like it is incredibly difficult. I believe Vitelli was talking <v Speaker 3>about this, but it's incredibly difficult about for these like <v Speaker 3>big gigantic publishers to be as nimble and as mobile <v Speaker 3>as these smaller studios. But I think, yeah, you know, <v Speaker 3>there's something to be said about these smaller initiatives that <v Speaker 3>just can run away with a funky idea and get <v Speaker 3>a decent amount of success from it. So I don't <v Speaker 3>know why these bigger publishers don't. I mean, they did <v Speaker 3>have smaller initiatives inside of them, and then they closed <v Speaker 3>all of them or force them to work in other stuff. <v Speaker 3>But great, fantastic for ratcoin's developer. I love raccoons pushing <v Speaker 3>coins growth. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I need to play this. I like raccoons, I <v Speaker 1>coin pushers. I need to get in on this action. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I always wonder it's like, man, could EA have figured <v Speaker 1>out a PopCap a little bit better than what it did? <v Speaker 1>But oh my god, they always follow the same pattern <v Speaker 1>of let's acquire PopCap, let's let them do what they <v Speaker 1>do for a little bit, and then suddenly we're going <v Speaker 1>to wake up one day and be like, we need <v Speaker 1>a bigger return on investment from everything you do, so <v Speaker 1>therefore you have to make bigger games. And now they're <v Speaker 1>making Not that those games were looked upon like unfavorably <v Speaker 1>A lot of people really liked Plants versus Zombie's Garden <v Speaker 1>Warfare the shooters, but it's like, obviously that's great that <v Speaker 1>you're doing that, but you need the focus should still <v Speaker 1>be PopCap mickey PopCap style games. <v Speaker 2>And then they just stopped doing that and they just <v Speaker 2>went away, and it's. <v Speaker 1>Like, there's there's got to be a way for a <v Speaker 1>big company like that to navigate that space in a <v Speaker 1>way that is not going to eventually just eat up <v Speaker 1>what the thing originally did in favor of bigger and <v Speaker 1>bigger games. <v Speaker 3>Like, uh, there are so many different mini games with <v Speaker 3>any game that you can just spin off a Queen's <v Speaker 3>Blood solo dolo experience would do crazy Town Bananas. Here's <v Speaker 3>my pitch. All right, we you know, there's some people <v Speaker 3>that work at Disney out there that we're fairly associated with. <v Speaker 3>I'm talking to you right now. <v Speaker 2>Right there's a certain card game. There's a certain card <v Speaker 2>game in Star Wars grub Oh yeah, I'm giving yeah. <v Speaker 2>They should just elaborate on that. <v Speaker 1>Subot trow yeah, oh shit, oh man, cut the check, <v Speaker 1>let's do it now. Thinking about that, I want that <v Speaker 1>real bad. <v Speaker 2>I don't even know how to place the. <v Speaker 1>Buck that's pretty Listen, you can pilattro that up pretty quickly. <v Speaker 2>I would really enjoy that. Oh my god, how fucking <v Speaker 2>Watto in there. <v Speaker 1>Give it like the just the old vector graphics style <v Speaker 1>crch like treatment and make it look like you're playing <v Speaker 1>it on a Star Wars in movie display. <v Speaker 2>Oh that'd be that would be fantastic. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's get these last couple of stories. Resident <v Speaker 1>Evil Trilogy is now on Steam. This is the GOG <v Speaker 1>optimized ports. <v Speaker 2>It was on Gog. <v Speaker 1>Now it's also on Steam, so you can get Residuevil one, two, <v Speaker 1>and three of the original versions running in really top <v Speaker 1>tier order on PC. <v Speaker 2>Let's see Resident Evil games. <v Speaker 1>Each one is priced at ten dollars and you can <v Speaker 1>get them with a discount for the a little bit <v Speaker 1>for the next few days through the next few weeks <v Speaker 1>through April fifteenth, so you could pick those up. And <v Speaker 1>then finally, Super Mario brother speed Runner claims he's being <v Speaker 1>sabotaged from Amelia Zohlner at Kotaku. Speed Runner Nifski, who's <v Speaker 1>been known for being the second fast fastest person to <v Speaker 1>complete Super Mario Brothers, has spent most of twenty twenty <v Speaker 1>six working toward a monumental achievement being the first person <v Speaker 1>to tie with a theoretically perfect playthrough of the game. However, <v Speaker 1>after a particularly sudden rule change that voided his preferred <v Speaker 1>method of input, he's now accusing the game's speed run <v Speaker 1>dot Com moderation team of conspiring against him and his progress. <v Speaker 1>In a YouTube video published Monday, Niftski alleged that the <v Speaker 1>current any Percentage world record holder Average eleven, conspired this <v Speaker 1>is a quote, conspired with certain Super Mario Brothers won <v Speaker 1>leaderboard moderators and others to rig the vote to ban <v Speaker 1>input swapping for the purpose of sabotaging my any Percentage <v Speaker 1>TAZ tie progress. That's a lot, but basically what he's <v Speaker 1>saying is he's trying to tie what is the theoretically <v Speaker 1>fastest speed run you can do and Super Mario Brothers, <v Speaker 1>which one other person has done this average eleven, and <v Speaker 1>his method Nifski, of doing that requires him from that <v Speaker 1>doesn't require but he prefers to go from using a <v Speaker 1>controller in certain segments to using a PC keyboard as <v Speaker 1>an input method for different parts of the segments. And previously, <v Speaker 1>like six months ago, maybe not even that long ago, <v Speaker 1>the moderation team, which is nine people voted eight to one, <v Speaker 1>like the goddamn Supreme Court to approve input swapping, and <v Speaker 1>they're like, yeah, that's fine that we don't think that <v Speaker 1>that is against any of the spirit of what we're <v Speaker 1>going for here. <v Speaker 2>So thumbs up. <v Speaker 1>And then suddenly, as it seems like he might be <v Speaker 1>getting closer to accomplishing this, things changed and he's accusing <v Speaker 1>some scene drama of getting in the way of him <v Speaker 1>accomplishing this. I mostly included this jam because it's like, <v Speaker 1>as a reminder, all these fun spaces, if it's people <v Speaker 1>and they're competing or there's just people existing the side <v Speaker 1>by side, everything eventually just becomes politics. Everything becomes people scheming. <v Speaker 1>It goes all the way down to the bottom, it <v Speaker 1>goes all the way up to the top. It's everywhere. <v Speaker 1>It's impossible to avoid. But yeah, scene drama. <v Speaker 2>You know. <v Speaker 3>I wish for easy resolutions for all those involved, just <v Speaker 3>because I don't know. The speed running community seems very <v Speaker 3>tight knit. It does does seem like one of those <v Speaker 3>communities where everyone does know everyone, and I don't know <v Speaker 3>what it is grub. I think this is a big <v Speaker 3>week for sabotage. It is stage is, it's out there. <v Speaker 3>Now I'm waiting, is someone out there trying to sabotage us? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it could be, could be this this moderation team <v Speaker 1>on speed run dot com. <v Speaker 2>Who's to say? Yeah? <v Speaker 1>I mean that The King of Kong's fist full of <v Speaker 1>quarters is where I first realized. It's like, oh yeah, <v Speaker 1>this sort of backstabbing can happen in anything. And uh, <v Speaker 1>the way that those growing men behaved trying to set <v Speaker 1>a world record in Donkey Kong, It's like, yeah, okay, <v Speaker 1>if it can happen, there can happen anywhere. And of <v Speaker 1>course it's still happening in a Nintendo related video game scene. <v Speaker 1>All right, that does it for the headlines. Let's get <v Speaker 1>to the poll question from yesterday. I should have the <v Speaker 1>results right over here. I am going to refresh. The <v Speaker 1>question was, are you seeing the Mario Galaxy movie in <v Speaker 1>the next two weeks? I am so our thirty eight <v Speaker 1>percent respondents. Sixty two percent of people said no, they <v Speaker 1>are not. <v Speaker 2>So. <v Speaker 1>I think that says like the audience here is like, yeah, look, <v Speaker 1>I'll check it out, but not a ton of excitement. <v Speaker 1>But thirty eight percent is you know, that's a lot <v Speaker 1>of people going to see a movie out of the <v Speaker 1>four thousand that voted, So I would like I kind <v Speaker 1>of wish I could like quickly compare this to like <v Speaker 1>how other movies would fare, Like what did people do <v Speaker 1>with Project tail Mary? I bet our audience was even <v Speaker 1>more than that for Project tail Mary wouldn't be surprised <v Speaker 1>by that. That movie did very well. <v Speaker 2>Are you Jen? <v Speaker 1>Are you seeing Mario in the theaters? You have plans <v Speaker 1>for that? <v Speaker 2>Yeah? Plenty, see you this weekend. <v Speaker 3>I thought about, uh, perhaps tonight, but I'm too sleepy, <v Speaker 3>grub I'd probably fall No. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I get it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, that's the poll question from yesterday. Let's see, <v Speaker 1>we need a new poll question. Let's see, should we <v Speaker 1>just do one about the PS six handheld and the price? <v Speaker 1>What do we think it's gonna cost? Yeah, we'll come <v Speaker 1>up with one about the PlayStation six price, basically, how <v Speaker 1>much do you think it's gonna cost? And we'll give <v Speaker 1>you a range of Let's say I'm gonna start it <v Speaker 1>at guess five hundred. I think that even that's pretty low. <v Speaker 1>Five hundred to six hundred, six hundred, seven hundred, seven hundred, <v Speaker 1>eight hundred, eight hundred, nine hundred plus something like that. <v Speaker 1>I think that's probably where most people are gonna end up. <v Speaker 1>We'll come up the exact verbiage, get that posted up <v Speaker 1>for you all here pretty soon, we'll get the results <v Speaker 1>to talk about it here on Giant Bomb on Game <v Speaker 1>of Morning's tomorrow. Speaking of Giant Bomb voicemail. Dump truck <v Speaker 1>coming up pretty soon, right, Jane. <v Speaker 3>Yes, we have our dear portal pal Mary Kish joining <v Speaker 3>us on the dump truck and speaking about Tomadotci life Greb. <v Speaker 3>We're gonna continue marry Me Tomo Dooci in its hottest <v Speaker 3>dating show later this afternoon and also gang tomorrow for you. <v Speaker 3>Pf Our dear friend Samantha Coleman is joining us. You <v Speaker 3>won't want to miss it. <v Speaker 2>Yep, it's go. <v Speaker 1>We're gonna have a lot of fun. We'll play some <v Speaker 1>to Samantha's bringing her new game. It's gonna be a <v Speaker 1>lot of fun. Everybody cannot wait. Okay, let's see With <v Speaker 1>all of that out of the way, Jane, I think <v Speaker 1>what I'm gonna do now is say thank you for <v Speaker 1>hanging out with me today and talking about video games. <v Speaker 2>Man, I really do appreciate it. It's the only way <v Speaker 2>to start a Thursday. <v Speaker 1>And thank you for all watching and listening. You are <v Speaker 1>the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a <v Speaker 1>good one, take care of yourself and goodbye.
