00:00:12 Speaker 1: Adley Richmond joining us right now on FT Adley. It's great to have you on. You probably caught a little bit of what we were just doing. It's it's a little bit of a rough day, honestly as an American. 00:00:21 Speaker 2: How you doing, man, I'm doing good. I'm having a great day. 00:00:26 Speaker 3: Yeah, good good. Yeah. 00:00:28 Speaker 2: No, I put on the tighter shirt I can. 00:00:29 Speaker 3: I told you. 00:00:30 Speaker 4: I mean I feel like I should take my undershirt off off for this killer hoodny thing I got here. 00:00:36 Speaker 3: Now you try to keep up. I mean, these things are freaking what you do this off season? 00:00:39 Speaker 2: Oh, I got a Tyler O'Neal's program. 00:00:41 Speaker 4: Oh I was gonna say, yeah, yeah, that's smart. 00:00:46 Speaker 2: Best shape of your life? No, I mean every year says that every year. 00:00:54 Speaker 3: You can't always be in the best shape of your life. Yeah, that's great. I just believe. 00:00:59 Speaker 4: I mean, if you're Tyler and you you can. But not us regular common folk. Yeah, not us catchers, nobody, no catchers ever in great shape. 00:01:06 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we're you know. 00:01:07 Speaker 3: We're catchers. Yeah, yeah, you're not. 00:01:10 Speaker 4: You're not rolling out there with a six pack looking like Tyler O'Neill. You know, it's a huge butt because then we get hit by balls and it hurts more. 00:01:16 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:01:16 Speaker 2: No, that's that's a that's a real thing, you know, just like a little bit of a little punch. Yah, yeah, just a little a little bit. 00:01:22 Speaker 3: Right. What house camp going? Everything good so far, It's been great. You're healthy. It's like the biggest thing for you. 00:01:28 Speaker 2: Absolutely. I mean that's I want to play as many games as possible. It's the worst being hurt, you know, it's uhs tough, tough being on the bench and feeling like you can't contribute in that way. So definitely the most important thing standing on the field. 00:01:41 Speaker 4: Have they talked to you about and uh with sam here Samuel hear a catching sharing like to keep you healthy, they give you a number and say, hey, one hundred and twenty games Hunter games hundred and ten. 00:01:57 Speaker 3: Has all been asked you that question? Or is it just play as many can? 00:02:01 Speaker 2: I mean that No, I mean that conversation, I guess hasn't been had. And I think for me, it's I want to play as many games as I can. That's that's my goal. 00:02:10 Speaker 3: It should be. 00:02:11 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you've done okay, so yeah it should be your goal. Yeah, how do you what's the biggest thing the spring that you want to work on. 00:02:20 Speaker 2: For me, it's just it's one of those things where I want to be in the best possible spot I can be going into Opening Day. I want to make sure that my swing that I want to have for the year is like I'm trending in that direction starting with Opening Day and whatever that is like for me, it's getting that one percent every single day, like getting my feels in the cage, making sure like I'm looking at video ever rep has intention to it and like how am how am I seeing the ball? How am I getting swings off? Am I barreling balls? All that feedback is is super important going into Opening Day. So That's where I'm trying to get to and where I want to be at all. 00:03:06 Speaker 5: Right, the bat, the bat makes your money, but I'm pretty sure you want to win a World Series. So the connection with the pitchers is what wins that World series for you guys, What does that what does that look like? What does that look like on a day in and day out? Basis spring training what you're looking for from you got some new faces. You're also trying to bring bradish back, who was a cy young you know, had cy Young votes before he got hurt, and then Trevor Rodgers has to repeat what he did in the second half. What does that look like in spring training for you, because to me, that's the most important part of your job. 00:03:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I mean, it's a lot of meetings, It's a lot of conversations with with guys like in bullpens and just after innings in the dugout. All that feedback, all that communication from from them is huge and super valuable. And I think just understanding, especially with the new guys bass Bassett, understanding how they operate, what kind of feedback they want and what they want to see in game. You know, what's going to allow them to give up three runs in the first and then go seven innings three runs up, you know. So I think just having those conversations, understanding how they operate is is huge and definitely been a lot of meetings. 00:04:26 Speaker 3: And have you talked to Bassett? 00:04:28 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean does he talk to you about the whole pitch comedy thing where he'll hit a button and he'll go, oh no. 00:04:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, he'll shake himself off on the pitch. Yeah. 00:04:38 Speaker 2: No, I mean I've been on the other end of that. And I've seen that the spring training. I think, you know, those buttons get tricky sometimes, and especially like for them when they're feeling around and they're like, I do it sometimes too, where I hit the wrong button and you know, I'll hit slider and then it'll be backpick and I'm like, no, no, not that, And so. 00:04:55 Speaker 4: How do you how do you because I know we didn't have you know, we actually had to use the yeah fingers. 00:05:00 Speaker 3: So what happens if you hit the wrong is there like a delete? 00:05:03 Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, there's you know, you have the cancel or you know that's when guys are just shaking their head and just you know, there's no one on base and you give the pickoff and you're like, okay, no that's not delete. Yeah yeah, yeah, cancel, cancel, cancel. 00:05:15 Speaker 4: You have it on your shing guard, Yeah, if you take it off, because I see Alejandra Kirk he takes it off and holds it sometimes he just doesn't want to reach all the way over here and do it. 00:05:23 Speaker 2: I just I mean, I just go right off the knee. 00:05:25 Speaker 3: You know, you got to cover it. You don't wan anyone's stealing your fingers. 00:05:27 Speaker 2: Yeah, it can't be given off the you know dexterity with the forum. 00:05:32 Speaker 1: The number one rated ticketing app is seat geek and you can get ten percent off on seat geeks app by using the code territory ten, so you should use it. 00:05:41 Speaker 4: Aj Oh, I'm definitely going to use it for WBC games and Jammy because I want to go to the semi. 00:05:46 Speaker 2: Finals in the finals and they're going to be sold out. 00:05:48 Speaker 4: Absolutely spring training games for the people out there who want to go to spring training games. Absolutely great idea best seats Radar one through ten and I recently had to use seageek to buy tickets to a Florida Gators basketball game that was sold out. So I love the code territory ten percent off and the rating is the best. 00:06:03 Speaker 1: Yes, he's talking about each ticket rated on a scale of one to ten, so you know you're getting a good deal. So look for the green dots. Green means good, red means bad. And of course we have a code for you, like I mentioned, it's territory ten for ten percent off your next set of tickets at se geek. That's ten percent off any tickets with promo code t E R R I O R Y one zero. Make sure you click the link in the description and download the app and have the code automatically added to your account so you can use it later. 00:06:30 Speaker 2: Thank you to see geek. 00:06:32 Speaker 5: How quickly do you do that? Because you hear it at the same time and like you're like, oh backpick, oh crap, do you have to hit cancel? Or is a picture look at you and go nobody's on base? Like what are those interactions? 00:06:47 Speaker 3: Like? 00:06:48 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's like sometimes it's you get a smile out of them if you know, you mess up, But most of the time it's you're trying to get it in like quick enough to where like if you do give something wrong, you have time to to you know, press cancel, go back, hit something else, just. 00:07:03 Speaker 3: Say cancel in your ear. Yeah, so it says back that cancel kids. Yeah. 00:07:06 Speaker 2: Or I mean if there's if you give something like that and there's no one on base, then I just go straight to whatever else it is because. 00:07:12 Speaker 3: Is in your voice no no robot voice. 00:07:15 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just some you know, some chat GBT voice that need to you know, you can make it your voice, yeah, absolutely, And then you could have a button to be like if you you suck. Yeah. Yeah, they were trying to get that like after strikeouts, you know, have have something pump up? Yeah, just like way to go, great job. Yeah. 00:07:37 Speaker 5: How often does that happen? How often do you hit the wrong button? Because this is all new for me and AJ we never got to play video games on the field. 00:07:44 Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd say probably two or three times a game, so wow. Yeah. I mean it's just like the thing is with some of them too. You have like like some of them, if you press it once, it's like it's something. If you hold it, it's something else. And so sometimes like if you press it and you don't hold it, then it's like something else that you don't want. So sometimes it just like you just it malfunctions. 00:08:11 Speaker 4: Do you ever come into the dugout after press you're like Slider and it gets hit for a homer. 00:08:17 Speaker 3: You ever come in and be like, this is a video game. 00:08:19 Speaker 4: It's supposed to go down in a way to your picture, Like you didn't follow the A button I hit? 00:08:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean if they leave it in the nitro zone, then it's no, No. 00:08:29 Speaker 3: Can't blame you that I pressed the A button. 00:08:31 Speaker 2: No, I mean that's the thing too. As a catcher, as you know, is like you got to account for the misses and like what they've been doing and throwing on that given day. And so it's like you're trying to, you know, say, okay, if he throws a slider here, but he might miss here, and I think that's still gonna be okay if he misses here, So uh, then it's on me, you know. 00:08:50 Speaker 5: So take us to the off season. Take us the off season when you're seeing things come across the ticker or when you're getting calls hey, have you ever had interaction with this guy? How much are you? Were you a part of any of the discussions of guys that you guys ended up trading for signing, and if you weren't, tell us your reaction or like the group thread reaction as you guys found out. 00:09:16 Speaker 2: Are you asking if I got like calls on on certain guys. 00:09:19 Speaker 5: Like anybody like like, do you, hey, Adley, do you know anything about Pete Alonzo? You're like, Hey, it's a lot of dangers. Do you know anything about shame Box? 00:09:27 Speaker 2: Like, yeah, they're not They're not calling me for advice really at all. 00:09:32 Speaker 3: Now, just the person did they call you? Yeah, not as I think. 00:09:36 Speaker 2: If if they think I know someone. Then I'm sure they'll they'll ask what you know, what do you got on a certain guy? But I'm not getting. I'm not getting. 00:09:44 Speaker 3: Did they call you before they move the fences in? 00:09:47 Speaker 2: No, No, that they called Pete. Maybe I don't know. 00:09:51 Speaker 4: You they maybe I would think they probably did. They're like, hey, Pete, by the way, if you want to sign here, we'll move the fences in twenty feet before you left. 00:10:00 Speaker 2: Perfect. Perfect? Yeah, I mean that that thing is? 00:10:06 Speaker 3: That was that was formative? 00:10:07 Speaker 4: Right? 00:10:07 Speaker 3: What they call it? 00:10:09 Speaker 4: Very big word from high school graduate? Uh, more than one syllable. 00:10:13 Speaker 3: What are they call it? Mount Baltimore? Yeah, the thing? 00:10:15 Speaker 2: Yeah, why did you do that? 00:10:17 Speaker 4: Because the coolest part about playing at Cammon Yards was the defence was low and you could get moments like where Manny Ramirez ran up and caught the ball and high five to the fan and then threw it back to like you can't do that anymore now. 00:10:27 Speaker 2: No, I don't know if they're like planning on doing something with that, like new area with the fence moved in and it's kind of like the fence a little bit lower. 00:10:34 Speaker 3: Okay, that affects your right handed power though. 00:10:37 Speaker 2: For sure. Yeah, yeah, for sure, close to the fence to help the pictures. Yeah, I don't know. I mean so it's like, yeah again they you know, they're not asking me for my my take. 00:10:51 Speaker 4: Shame they should you just give it. You should just see it going into a Lias Like listen to Mike, here's the deal. We're gonna sit down, We're gonna figure this all out. 00:10:57 Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, we got to just go over the analytics of like what's the optimal for pictures, pitchers and hitters. 00:11:03 Speaker 3: What we're gonna have Trevor Rodgers on what what? 00:11:07 Speaker 4: What did he change in the second half to make him because he was unbelievable in the second half. Yeah, a little bit more in the second half, but his last like what fifteen starts are incredible. 00:11:17 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he from what I understand, I think just getting back to his identity and you know, I think his velo ticked up a bit. And obviously we have phenomenal pitching coaches, so great job pitching coaches and training staff and everyone else had a part in it. But he's also just got a great mindset and for him, I think it's just a matter of time. Like he's he's one of those guys. He works super hard, super diligent about his work, and you see that, and everyone wants him to have the utmost success because it's just the best person. And last year he went out and dominated and he's just super super competitive and I think I love watching him pitch. It's been awesome spring training so far. He's uh, you know, he goes out on the mound with with authority and confidence and you love to see that. 00:12:06 Speaker 5: How much is WBC? 00:12:07 Speaker 3: Have you been watching? 00:12:10 Speaker 2: What What? 00:12:11 Speaker 3: What? 00:12:11 Speaker 2: You can? Uh? You know, you catch catch glimpses and uh, you know in the hot tub, cold tub, and when you go home. It's just tough with spring training over on the East Coast. And you know, you got early bedtime here in early wake up, so. 00:12:24 Speaker 4: You're not grinding until midnight. I started at nine o'clock. I can't make it too. I'm too old for that. 00:12:28 Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's just you know, bedtime gets earlier and earlier older yet and so you catch what you can. I saw this morning the Bad News. 00:12:39 Speaker 5: Did you did you see the handshake tobacle between a Rosarina and cal Rawley. 00:12:46 Speaker 2: I heard about it. I didn't see it, but you know I heard about it. 00:12:51 Speaker 3: Who's your best friend in. 00:12:54 Speaker 2: Best friend in baseball? 00:12:55 Speaker 3: Not on the Orioles. 00:12:56 Speaker 2: Yeah, oh gosh, uh, I mean I got I got some some Oregon State boys name one, okay, I mean I don't want to see anyone out love. 00:13:08 Speaker 4: Let's step Stephen Kuan comes up to beat off the game and what's up, dude? 00:13:13 Speaker 3: And he goes like this, what are you doing? 00:13:15 Speaker 2: I see I don't know the backstory on it. 00:13:17 Speaker 3: You know, he's Kwan. 00:13:19 Speaker 4: Walks up leading off the game in Cleveland and he goes badly, what's up? Are you shaking his hand? 00:13:25 Speaker 2: I mean the thing is, it's like I don't know what goes on in like the USA locker room. I don't know if that's like what like what they talk about, like how how they're approaching the game and whatnot. 00:13:35 Speaker 4: And if I ain't shaking his hand, I'm a dick. That's a dick when I played. You know, don't talk to me. I'm gonna get you up. Yeah, I mean, I mean that have to be you're nice. I wasn't nice when I played. 00:13:48 Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't feel like it's tough. It's tough. Everyone's everyone's different. I mean, I don't I don't know, I don't know. 00:13:56 Speaker 3: I don't know. You didn't say yes, he didn't say yes to the Kwan and Jake Love Kuan. 00:14:00 Speaker 2: I mean, I'm yeah, I don't know. 00:14:04 Speaker 3: I don't have a good answer. 00:14:05 Speaker 4: No, it's tough because it just depends right like you, Yeah, I don't know what's happening. 00:14:09 Speaker 3: No, you don't know what was discussed. 00:14:10 Speaker 2: No, exactly, and you just don't know, like maybe maybe that's how US team's like approaching it just as a as a whole, or I don't know, like I'm I don't know the backstory on it. So it's tough, tough to have it. Take. 00:14:23 Speaker 3: You did play for the US team, right, the collegiate team one year? 00:14:26 Speaker 2: Yep. 00:14:26 Speaker 3: Yeah. What was it like putting the USA on your chest? 00:14:29 Speaker 2: Oh, it's awesome. 00:14:30 Speaker 3: You guys win. 00:14:30 Speaker 2: Awesome. Yeah, we didn't have like a tournament or anything, but we had you know, we played against Chinese type page Japan, went down to Cuba. So it was an awesome experience. 00:14:44 Speaker 5: Have you heard what the conversations is in the sense of and maybe you even had it because you guys didn't have You're saying you didn't have the championship, but you toured around with a collegiate team. Do you hear those conversations when guys come back from the WBC, Like, man, these guys, like everybody was all into the WBC, which could lead to what you were saying, Like, I don't know what those conversations were this year, but did you hear them or about them other years on from Team USA guys? 00:15:13 Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, I'm trying to think if we had anyone on I don't think I guess in twenty twenty three or when was the last WBC twenty twenty twenty three if we had Yeah, I don't know if we had anyone on the USA team, But like I think, Dean's been with Israel for the last two times and everyone's come back with just the utmost positive things to say about their experience. And Enrique just came back from the Panama team said it was a it was great and just a great time. Like you're playing in front of awesome crowds, super competitive atmosphere and everyone's into it. And so I've heard just very positive experiences from guys. 00:16:00 Speaker 1: We love Hello Fresh shout out to them and over one hundred recipes to choose from each week to provide variety. I mean, obviously, you guys did a lot in the offseason. 00:17:11 Speaker 2: We gave a lot of praise to that. 00:17:12 Speaker 1: I think you guys significantly improved what you've got, But damn the Blue Jays had a run last year. 00:17:19 Speaker 2: They improved. 00:17:20 Speaker 1: The Yankees are running the same team back, the Red Sox added pitching. What do you think of the division? And you know, I can mix it in with like the Classic. Do you think it's the best division in baseball? Toughest division? 00:17:33 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's I feel like every year that every year have been with the team, The AL East has always been talked about as a very strong division, and everyone's trying to win it. You know, everyone's bringing on pieces trying to trying to win, and you just you expect that year in and year out. So I think for us, it's something you're kind of used to, uh, And we're just focused on trying to like control what we can control in our locker room the day to day and making sure that we're doing the right stuff because at the end of the day, that's all we can control is is our clubhouse and our expectations what we do and hopefully like that takes care of takes care of it. 00:18:17 Speaker 3: Who are you living with this spring? Got? 00:18:20 Speaker 2: Uh, well, if you Gunner, you're great. 00:18:23 Speaker 3: Gunner's on here. 00:18:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, so Gunner. Gunner was living with us and whenever he gets back for you know, hopefully a day or two. 00:18:32 Speaker 3: No, you don't want him to win. What did you say he's back in a day or two? 00:18:35 Speaker 2: I mean for a day or two. Like I was like, I don't know the last day of the WBC, but it's next Tuesday, so yeah, and I think we leave Saturday or something. So yeah, like day or two. Okay, you know we bounce out. No, not in there. No, No, we're happy for Gunner, but you know we miss him. We miss him around the house. Uh. Westburg Kowser also in the house. So it feels like it feels everyone feels a little lost. 00:19:08 Speaker 3: Last year you had Lego. You guys were doing Legos and. 00:19:10 Speaker 2: Of cows Yeah, cowsers in on He's he was in on Legos last year. Now it's Pokemon. Two years ago we bought like a camera and was super in on photography. So he's all over the map and we never know what he's what did he do? 00:19:22 Speaker 3: Pokemon? He buys cards? Yeah, yeah, like you don't know how Pokemon. 00:19:26 Speaker 2: No, it's like it's like he's like talking about like the investment of buying Pokemon cards and like how much they He's just a you know, he's a bad guy, so he just whatever it's popular. 00:19:43 Speaker 3: I would love that, wouldn't. 00:19:44 Speaker 2: I love him. 00:19:45 Speaker 3: I love him, but I will did Holidays it was Jackson with you guys. 00:19:49 Speaker 2: No Jackson. Jackson has been a little too cool for our group, you know. He uh yeah, yeah, you can tell him. I said that. 00:19:58 Speaker 3: Yeah, I love Jackson, you love everybody. 00:20:00 Speaker 2: I know. Jackson's great man, He's great. But I do. I do enjoy you know, anytime. You know, haven't got to golf with him, you know, but when I do, it's it's a fun time because I just like talking. I like chirping in his ear and he just doesn't say anything back, but I know it gets under his skin. 00:20:17 Speaker 3: Really. 00:20:17 Speaker 2: Yeah, in one of these days, he's going to crack and he's gonna fire back with something hurtful and like what would be to him? Yeah, I don't know, like terrible wedshot, Like you have the hands of a brickmaker. 00:20:30 Speaker 3: Really. Yeah, he never says anything. 00:20:32 Speaker 2: I've never said that line on a course, but that could be something you could say, like any bad drive, like oh you mean to. 00:20:42 Speaker 3: I don't know where? 00:20:43 Speaker 2: Yeah, just like, oh did you know you like were aimed over there? And he just kind of continues. He puts his head down, he works, but you know, has yet to has yet to beat me on the course. 00:20:54 Speaker 3: Okay, that's good, is he or? No? Hopeful? 00:20:58 Speaker 2: Sure, and get him on here just so he can. 00:21:02 Speaker 3: He's scheduled, he's scheduled to appear. 00:21:04 Speaker 2: Yeah again, maybe too cool. You might get that. 00:21:06 Speaker 3: But we have we have, we have scars, we share with each other. So we're good. 00:21:10 Speaker 2: Oh. 00:21:10 Speaker 3: Perfect. 00:21:11 Speaker 4: So when you were at Oregon State, you were drafted one overall. Did you go to teams and say I can only wear orange and black? So that's why the Orioles picture. 00:21:21 Speaker 3: One to one? Uh? It was the Orioles are the giants were your only options? 00:21:25 Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean the colourway has been super easy. It's been an easy transition the entire time. I guess I'm just a man of man of comfort. 00:21:36 Speaker 3: You don't like, no, I do I do. 00:21:38 Speaker 2: Halloween's fine, it's totally fine. Uh, more of a you know, Christmas fourth of July. 00:21:43 Speaker 3: I get it. I get We have the clip of you. 00:21:46 Speaker 4: I wasn't on when you were on last time, I don't know, so I never got but you here, this is you and you know who you're tackling. I'm sure you've seen this at times. Is this the greatest moment in your sports career? 00:21:56 Speaker 3: Right here? 00:21:59 Speaker 2: I mean, this is the moment they get shown the most. At the time. It was the punter kick kickoff, kickoff, Yeah, yeah, why do you kick a touchback? Well, we were just trying to kick away from him and they did it sweitch, so like if you can't see the back angle, but like he was lined up on the other side, and then like as we were coming up to the ball, they like switched because they want to get him the ball obviously, So we were just trying to kick away from him and he got it. So uh, I ended up tackling him and then it was like me and all the other specialists like in you know, on the sideline afterwards, we're like, oh my gosh, like that was crazy, But it didn't feel like that big of a thing at the time because it was just like a group of six of us like kind of like yeah, but also we were losing at the time. 00:22:41 Speaker 4: So when you were the kickof they feel like a relief pitcher, like a special teams player like we used to. Adam Dunn used to call the all the relievers kickers because they only played like a quarter of the game, so they need him in special situations. 00:22:53 Speaker 2: I would say I felt so as a freshman kicker on the team two months into college. I felt probably much less than that. I would say, not a ton of friends on the team at the time, really low on the pulled podium, A specialist and a freshman, so, uh, you know, not getting a lot of convers You. 00:23:15 Speaker 4: Didn't use that out out at night, I know, like a you know, we're not Friday next. You played on like a Tuesday night. You were like you go out to a nice restaurant. Yeah, you'd say, hey girl, I'm a freshman kickoff specialist. 00:23:28 Speaker 2: No, I don't think I'm using that one. Uh, you know, it did help once once baseball season started, then some people are like, oh, well, we didn't know we. 00:23:36 Speaker 3: Played baseball catcher. 00:23:38 Speaker 2: Oh wow, you're actually like cooler than we thought we you. 00:23:41 Speaker 3: Know, you down here. 00:23:44 Speaker 2: Oh, you play baseball. It's a little bit. You're you're better than so yeah, tough ball. 00:23:51 Speaker 3: Yes, thank you very much for joining us. This is awesome. Yeah, thank you. 00:23:56 Speaker 2: Yeah, really good and we'll. 00:23:57 Speaker 3: See we'll see you in Baltimore, I hope. 00:23:59 Speaker 2: So all right, thanks guts, thanks sadly, you were awesome.
