Yeah, I thought, no matter how big the ruse, no matter how well it's funded, it's hard to get a bad idea off the ground and make it profitable.

And because it became right on the right on the hills of the murder and butchery and of Jamal Kashogi, it was really fresh in everybody's mind, and it wasn't hard to connect those dots.

Speaker 7: There's There's just no way what they were doing was sustainable if they were looking to make a profit, which clearly they weren't. They were going to never make a profit. But in terms of trying to diversify their economy, trying to get some other so of revenue, but tried besides the Petro. You know, I don't think that the Saudis are going to give up on golf in that regard. I still think they'll try to build golf courses and hotels and all of that in Saudi Arabia. But as it relates to competitive golf, it was an abject failure because people really only watched sports that matter, and everybody saw through this ruse and knew that it was more of an exhibition than a competition.

Speaker 7: He had propped up the idea of an elite tour of players and famously Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas stood up and said no. Look, we had the chance to do something similar back in our heyday in the sixties and seventies and early eighties, and we said no because it wasn't good for golf. But Greg just it seemed to me, was only interested in what was good for Greg. Let's get a small group of guys together and let's just play a week after week after week. Now something like that came along, called the wgc's There was a small group of guys. Tiger almost won half of them. And guess what, the world of golf lost interest in them because what matters is the pipelines to building professional golfers. What matters a lot or underdog stories, unheard of stories coming to fruition in the game of golf, and so they.

Speaker 2: I'm looking at this returning member program now Brooks literally paid the price, So I guess Patrick Reid is going to have to do the same. Is this going to be still open for John Rahm and Bryson Deshambeau, Cam Smith, anybody else.

Speaker 7: I'd be surprised if the deal that Brooks Keepka got or well Reid is going to have to qualify, and he is going to qualify, So maybe that'll be the path back for a lot of these guys that don't have existing exemptions, but they came back because they wanted to play more traditional golf. It was their choice to come back. These players are only coming back when Live folds at the end of this year. They'll only be coming back because they have no other choice. So I think the road back will be quite a bit bumpier and more expensive.

Now there's some of them, a few of them that'll have existing exemptions, but I still just don't think that it's going to be as easy as it was for Brooks or Read. They can't keep them from coming back. A lot of people text and say, why are they even letting them back? I mean, legally they can't do that. They have to have a pathway to coming back, but it is interesting that they were paid exponential amounts of money to go play for Live. They're going to have to pay to come back and play on the PGA Tour.

But Rory, Yeah, absolutely, Rory went out there. I think he was hurt by was it June sixth when there was this framework agreement between the PGA Tour and Live? Felt like he probably felt like he'd been betrayed a little bit because he did put it all out there on the line. But I would imagine he feels some vindication at this news.

Speaker 7: I mean, proponents of live will say that the tour is better now, but look, it tilted the game towards greed. It muddied the meritocratic aspects of the game of golf. It is likely that the philanthropic foundations of professional golf, which has been so important a big part of professional golf, it's likely, in my view, that those foundations will get eaten into to some extent to pay this future equity of PGA Tour players. And you can say that it's stalled or killed the trajectory of many a player, and some would be Hall of Fame players, and it divided the game. And right now I would say that even if these players come back, the persons are so out of touch with reality that they're not sustainable.

He actually went to tour events to recruit players to go to live and was a big part of the lawsuit levied against the PGA Tour. And by the way, Bryson Deshamba was setting on that lawsuit all the way until.

Nothing comes close to the WM Phoenix Open. You know, there were a few tournaments that were pretty festive. Durrau used to be back in the day festival. We'll see if it's that way this week.

And then the Thunderbirds run that and they're the you know, I think they blend business in philanthropy better than any organization I've ever run across.

And they tried to get Tiger to go there as well, and you know it was just the money speaks or tells you only so much. And it still comes back to the reason why you play, and you play at this level is the competition that you're playing meaningful golf. And Brandon was talking about that there was no meaningful golf on LIV and there was no reason to tune in unless you go, boy, I haven't seen John Rahm swing, okay, or you know Dustin Johnson, mean, Bubba, I you know, there just wasn't anything there. Deshamba's the one guy who would bring in eyeballs, but these were still meaningless tournaments. Everybody's already got their money, everybody's already won. And that's what we love that, you know, Brandal talked about, we love that guy who is getting a chance to maybe win a tournament. He's come so close, or you haven't heard of him and then here he is. Or you get a dynasty like Tiger or Jack or Arnie or Watson or run down the list of all these great players that have had their run. That's what you love and live live just overestimated the viewing habits that people were going to tune in because why there was no reason to let me see Nick in Massachusetts. Good morning, Nick. So if that's the case, Vegas is going to have NFL Baseball, NHL, They'll have the NBA, and then they could have the mL A. Decade ago, even one of those teams in Vegas was a long shot. You know how many people are in the metro area two point four million, that's twenty fifth largest in the country. It'll be interesting to see if they can support all of this.
