Episode 130 - The Minotaurs? NOPE suprise its the Lords of Terra!!!!
On today’s cast I tricked Brad into talking about the Lords of Terra by telling him we were going to talk about the Minotaurs. We start with their origins as the magisters temporal, and how that set up some of the “challenges” the imperium would have with them for the next 10,000+ years. Then we move onto the Council of Terra, which also kind of sucked, but was at least functional. Unfortunately we then get to the grand council of reconstruction which was the last time it functioned in a way that benefited the imperium at large, cause that is when the Imperial Senate was created. From there we just dive into the nightmare of bad choices that happened. Until at the end we set up the perceived need by the lords of terra for the Minotaurs.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'd really just brag, costly references it, so we might as well give Guam a glow up. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Guam is lovely. [SPEAKER_00]: And if you're going to build a naval base in the middle of Pacific Ocean, Mars will build it in paradise. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd located just west of the International Date Line. [SPEAKER_00]: Those who don't know, it's been a military outpost for the U.S. since 1898 when the U.S. won it from the Spanish and the Spanish-American War, except for that little three-year period where the Japanese had it and were total dexter in that period of time. [SPEAKER_00]: they were holy God. [SPEAKER_00]: But it is also a paradise. [SPEAKER_00]: The average temperature is 85 degrees Fahrenheit for those of us with use of real temperature, but or 29.5C for all your weirdos. [SPEAKER_00]: And interestingly, it has the tallest mountain on earth technically, because Guam is on the Mariana island chain. [SPEAKER_00]: So Mount Lamlam is measured from the seafloor, which is kind of cheating because it's on the [SPEAKER_00]: But it's technically 38,000 feet high. [SPEAKER_00]: So 11,500 meters, which is a little BS. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But fun. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm going to start measuring my height. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, standing in things. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Breds on the chair. [SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, it's the chair counts. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: But for those, we do have listeners in Guam, because we have mostly, I know you have plenty of military. [SPEAKER_00]: But for those who are there, Guam is also a major MMA spot in the Pacific. [SPEAKER_00]: And if anyone's looking at train there, go to steel athletics. [SPEAKER_00]: It's over in a time winning. [SPEAKER_00]: Go find JJ. [SPEAKER_00]: He's the owner there and tell him you know me because we're listening to my podcast You'll blow his mind JJ and I train too good together. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well for a key owns this spot JJ Did you just a different 10 years is a good is a good body he moved out to Guam to open the gym out there and he's a great guy These actually I think he's a range of reserve is now too, but great guy with your own Guam go check out steal athletics [SPEAKER_00]: Lastly, our discord, it's also in the show notes. [SPEAKER_00]: You should also join our discord. [SPEAKER_00]: Lots of people are there. [SPEAKER_00]: Great spot for the, during ask us questions. [SPEAKER_00]: Tell me all the stuff I got wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: I took a lot of heat for that black beard comment. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm gonna stand by it, just come with it. [SPEAKER_00]: I like dying on stupid hills, but more importantly, it's a great place to interact. [SPEAKER_00]: It's really been improving a lot recently. [SPEAKER_00]: We're getting a lot of him coming in there, if we have another painting competition coming up soon. [SPEAKER_00]: But we've lost that for great literature advice, just great camaraderie. [SPEAKER_00]: People just trying to hang out, learn more about the lore and just beat other people. [SPEAKER_00]: get in there join. [SPEAKER_00]: It's completely free. [SPEAKER_00]: Like every discord should be no one should charge for discord. [SPEAKER_00]: It's free. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to stay over and over again. [SPEAKER_00]: I hate when people charge for discord in a while too. [SPEAKER_00]: I know it. [SPEAKER_00]: I get yelled at the while. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to bring it. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to bring it back. [SPEAKER_00]: don't charge for discord. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't charge for things that no one charges you for. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a dick move. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, all right. [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of dick moves, surprise. [SPEAKER_00]: We're not talking about the Minotars today. [SPEAKER_00]: Brad is super upset about this. [SPEAKER_00]: We're actually covering the lords of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: Because, in order to cover the Minotars, we have to cover the lords of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: And I started writing it and decided, suck it, Brad. [SPEAKER_00]: We're doing the lords of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: And the next episode [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So this is actually a surprise episode of the Lords of Terror. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's really great. [SPEAKER_02]: It's getting ready for a cast and then we do a different cast. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Grab your nitroglycerin tablet because it's party time, Brad. [SPEAKER_00]: Literally has them. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, none of you can see this one camera. [SPEAKER_00]: Brad actually just pulled out nitroglycerin. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's, uh, [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what we can do to Brad's heart rate. [SPEAKER_02]: So, I actually, let's talk about why we have to talk about the minitors first. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, sorry, talk about the literature to talk about the minitors because the minitors, [SPEAKER_02]: wanted, sorry, the lords of terror, which we will goug dump into. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep, wanted a patsy marine to go do marine things or do lords of terror things with marines, and now we're going to talk about how much they suck. [SPEAKER_02]: They've always sucked, and they always will suck till the end of time. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: This is the longest set of show notes we've had in four to five months. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because the board of terror are fascinating, fascinatingly awful. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, so the lords of terror actually do. [SPEAKER_00]: I like this history because it's kind of fun to go into, mostly because it's just circular of terrible ideas, becoming more terrible ideas, becoming, yeah, predictably. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's just talk about how they started. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: take side. [SPEAKER_02]: This is the reclamation war over Tara takes everything he never does anything to the nobility and a lot of this nobility class were just hey you get the state nobility if you join as part of my side. [SPEAKER_00]: What the Emperor the GW writing is very very [SPEAKER_00]: Britain-based. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what they know. [SPEAKER_00]: It's what they know. [SPEAKER_00]: It's meant to resemble 19th century Britain massively. [SPEAKER_00]: So the Emperor and Malkador, they start consolidating power as they're moving through, but they realized they couldn't destroy the nobility class. [SPEAKER_00]: They could clip the wings a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: but if they destroyed them, it actually would cause a bigger problem. [SPEAKER_00]: So as they accumulated lands, they gave them new titles, new tasks, so they could still feel important, but never give them any real purpose or meeting, which is. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but they also had kind of a lot of resources, so they still, because they kept giving up land effectively, you know, it would be land back in the day, [SPEAKER_02]: But they still had a ton of resources because they did want them to do stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: They needed them to. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the truth is, like the Emperor Malkador, they couldn't, and we're talking about it's more later. [SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't just control the populace. [SPEAKER_00]: They still had to have people in charge. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's easier to take the people who were already in charge and what them still be in charge and just have them not stab you in the back. [SPEAKER_00]: And so that's they also need their kids to make the cuss notes. [SPEAKER_00]: That's also a thing to did help. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's also the I mean speaking, that means someone was valid or bad. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but they also they had I bet your valdard killed him. [SPEAKER_00]: I bet your valdard killed his valdard killed his valdard. [SPEAKER_00]: No idea, but 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just in my learn he did for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of them. [SPEAKER_02]: But you had a figure that also they pulled us some of the early Marines from these places, too. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, of course, from different places of terror. [SPEAKER_02]: But the things they needed people to take care of the populist, can take care of resources that they're going to need when they start pushing out into the great crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: This is what they start with. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's go with the very first inception of it, which is called the Centatorium Imperialist. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the governing body made up of chosen nobles across terror. [SPEAKER_00]: This is before the great crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: This is during the, like, kind of the name for explanation words. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: This is during the recommendation words. [SPEAKER_00]: So this idea was actually pretty genius, where it's some of the agnognobles the fault, because one problem that they were always going to have was the nobility that they just conquered, were thirsting for power. [SPEAKER_00]: The whole history of terror, with the techno barbarians and everything, was everyone was trying to get as much power as they could get. [SPEAKER_02]: You call this genius, Blake, this is genius. [SPEAKER_02]: I sure, if your genius idea is to grab the backstabbyest of backstabbers and put them all together until they get backstabbers. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, he killed the backstabius once, but what he did was, the Emperor created, you know, he basically put himself in Malkador all the way at the top, but then he created almost like a middle class, for lack of a better phrase, of power, underneath him and said, you guys can all be here. [SPEAKER_00]: and some of you can be upper middle class and some of you are lower middle class of power. [SPEAKER_00]: And then you can all just stab the crap out of each other in here, as long as you leave me alone. [SPEAKER_00]: He basically must trickle down economics that doesn't follow away, which finally doesn't work, but side note for different, for different kinds. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll go on. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go with my ultra rare reference. [SPEAKER_02]: He did a Chinese downhill. [SPEAKER_02]: There are no rules. [SPEAKER_02]: And yes, that is from hot dog of the movie. [SPEAKER_02]: Go look at it. [SPEAKER_01]: It is from hot dog of the movie. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but he just tells them, hey, what are the rules? [SPEAKER_02]: There are none. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't mess with my stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: and stab each other galore, and you could, how do you go up in the rankings? [SPEAKER_02]: Do stuff that I don't want to hear about. [SPEAKER_02]: Also, make it so you don't interrupt what I'm doing. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he doesn't care. [SPEAKER_02]: There's a free for all going with this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we know he gave him all a very, very basic. [SPEAKER_00]: Here are four of you get to be in charge. [SPEAKER_00]: Lucky not four of you. [SPEAKER_00]: He, better but he said there are four jobs someone can have. [SPEAKER_00]: that's what he said. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's four jobs. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care who gets them, but they're going to be done. [SPEAKER_00]: If it's the same guy when I come back. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but they're all going to get achieved. [SPEAKER_00]: That in this sets the stage away for the entirety of the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a job that has to get done. [SPEAKER_00]: The job at better get done. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't give two F's who does it? [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that the Emperor even called these guys whether actual names, I think he just chose, you know, Ted, Billy, Jimmy, and Don, and those were the names that he gave to them. [SPEAKER_02]: They're like, that's a different guy. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't care, is everything still on time? [SPEAKER_02]: Good to hear you could be standing on that guy's dead body right now as long as I'm getting my troops And by supplies, I do not give a shit. [SPEAKER_00]: And so let's talk about the first four lords of terror Which is you know the called a magister's temporal where the master of the administrative [SPEAKER_00]: the grand provosti marshal at the arbytes. [SPEAKER_00]: The chancellor of the state's imperium, money guy, and the lord commander militant of the imperial armies, duh. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about them, because it's kind of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: So the first, the first lords of terror, you know, these people were meant to handle the day-to-day of the empire, just super basic level. [SPEAKER_00]: Money, administration, keep the order, make the military work. [SPEAKER_02]: but from day one there is drama and I love this because by the way if you want to know more about this no shit there's drama john you have a bad again a bunch of guys that are getting their job by any ruthless means possible [SPEAKER_02]: Is there gonna be some issues? [SPEAKER_02]: Probably, yeah, this is awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, but he's doing call that suck. [SPEAKER_00]: We get a lot of comments about where do you get this stuff from? [SPEAKER_00]: Valdor has a book. [SPEAKER_00]: Go read. [SPEAKER_00]: If you mind 2020, a lot of this comes out of the Valdor book. [SPEAKER_00]: It's actually one of the cooler books if you were to learn about the this era. [SPEAKER_00]: So, we have these four ones. [SPEAKER_00]: The first one I would like to talk about is the very first master of the ministerautum who sets up the ministerautum to be what it is today. [SPEAKER_00]: His name is Noom Retravia and he came from a very powerful noble family in the Americas. [SPEAKER_00]: who smartly joined the emperor like on day one day one look at it and we're like yep like we're we're we're we're investing yeah we are investing on the ground floor here this is the these guys are buying Bitcoin in 2002 like this that's how they saw this one he got his two he get his whole cards and win I'm all in [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: This guy is one of my favorite and least favorite because he's actually very intelligent. [SPEAKER_02]: This guy has a plan. [SPEAKER_02]: He rocks now. [SPEAKER_00]: He's your favorite, but he's also the worst because he's what sets up all the bad things. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: everything. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, this guy is, hey, is this going to make things slightly better for me and worse for every single person in existence? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I'm going to do that. [SPEAKER_02]: He does. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: No, immediately does. [SPEAKER_00]: No one was quite an intelligent talent in what he, but it's the best way to light yourself. [SPEAKER_00]: So he looks around. [SPEAKER_00]: And basically, looks at all the potential jobs and realizes that this Imperium is going to get big. [SPEAKER_00]: And a big thing is going to have bureaucracy. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to put myself in charge of the bureaucracy because that'll make me the most powerful person in this thing outside of the emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to make sure that everything goes through the bureaucracy. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it enhanced the things. [SPEAKER_02]: He set it up so that you could effectively [SPEAKER_02]: everything could be slow. [SPEAKER_02]: He made it inefficient purposely to steal easier. [SPEAKER_00]: He, this guy's so much. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's like it's amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're back to him in a second, because while you had him on the other side, you had this guy Pelop's driving door, who is the head of the estate's imperium, who was massively over his head. [SPEAKER_00]: Pelop's his job was to find all the money to fund all the [SPEAKER_00]: which is a lot because you remember like the person still needed money like it's one thing to remember is that you know the emperor the imperial is not slaves like we there is imperial currency people get paid for their work there's a lot of debate over the value of it and there were a lot of Bolshevik style revolts over the last entirety of the period but there is a currency [SPEAKER_00]: and palops, though his job was have the money to do all the weird things, the emperor, and malkador want to do, like build a hidden fortress under the Himalayas. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: His doctor evil plan. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I mean, over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: So he has that's Pelopps' job is I have to build a layer of volcano. [SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be. [SPEAKER_02]: He's doing all the Peter Griffin stuff to it. [SPEAKER_02]: Just honestly, I need a helicopter with my face on it, but this guy is so dumb. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: One, he's watching the guy that works with him. [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously steal money can't figure it out. [SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't really know how to do [SPEAKER_00]: But this is, but that's what's great. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he got it probably because no one helped him. [SPEAKER_00]: So no one that guy would be just spoke about. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, come to the hey buddy. [SPEAKER_00]: I got an idea for you. [SPEAKER_00]: I can use my bureaucracy to get all the money you need. [SPEAKER_00]: Just so don't worry about it. [SPEAKER_00]: I got you. [SPEAKER_00]: You just sit there and tell me where it goes. [SPEAKER_00]: And no one effectively just makes Pelop's his puppet. [SPEAKER_00]: And it goes cool. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think puppets just like around the world are mad that you compare them in one move, no one now controls half the government. [SPEAKER_00]: On the other side, though, which by the way, by the way, this is how the lords of terror will function forever. [SPEAKER_00]: A couple, main people will, well, Junice, you rule over a bunch of the other lords of terror who are too weak to really exert themselves in any way, shape or fall. [SPEAKER_02]: And I just assume that literally Pelop's had a hat that just said, chief awesome dude in charge of awesome stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: And they just dived in. [SPEAKER_00]: I view Pelops the way I view most of the people in Eddieocracy. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I think it was. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's what, it's what plants crave. [SPEAKER_00]: Brando has electrolytes. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like the beginning. [SPEAKER_02]: By the way, this novel is one of the reasons there's many reasons I hate Lord's Day. [SPEAKER_02]: But this really kicked it off, when you're like, hey, day zero, the guy in charge of the money was given a PlayStation 5 and told the go sit in the corner and then he was the best, and you're like, [SPEAKER_02]: What else do I do? [SPEAKER_02]: Now that's it, man. [SPEAKER_02]: You're awesome. [SPEAKER_02]: You're so awesome. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't even need to do anything. [SPEAKER_00]: The one I found funnier, though, is this was Puffer Puffer Puffer Puffer. [SPEAKER_00]: It's Cleason Y. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so it was Cleason. [SPEAKER_00]: Cleason was the first Lord commanded militant, the head of the Imperial Army, which sounds super powerful and super cool until you remember Malkador existed. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, back it up, and Alcador was pretty hands on about things when Malcolm wants to be hands on. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not just hands on. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember we said like, you're a puppet, think of this one more is the literal sense of Malcolm's hand is actually up and inside you. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Malkador basically was like, yeah, Kleson was a figurehead at best. [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing Kleson did happen without Malkador telling, I don't know if it's a heresy, so I'm going to go with she, without telling her exactly what to do. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, and then it's so funny because, [SPEAKER_02]: Melcador being the scamiest of scammy dudes of all time knows that no him is doing all kinds of sketchy stuff so he just has her show up every time and just go I vote whatever you don't [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Please, Tom's job was to say, no, every time, no, I'm said, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: She didn't matter. [SPEAKER_00]: She didn't even matter. [SPEAKER_00]: She just heard tired job was to cause problems. [SPEAKER_00]: But my favorite one of all of them, because a really cool story, is a Woma kind of kind of worry. [SPEAKER_00]: She held the title of Grand Provost Marshall. [SPEAKER_00]: She was the head of what later became the art bites. [SPEAKER_00]: She's a really cool story in this novel. [SPEAKER_00]: Actually, probably the best story in this novel, I'm being honest. [SPEAKER_00]: and she was in charge of upholding the law of the Imperium, which you're going to discover in a second, really sucks because of who's in charge of the Imperium, like really sucks. [SPEAKER_00]: So Owoma is a super cool character. [SPEAKER_00]: She came from a region. [SPEAKER_00]: It's supposed to be an Africa, but it's really the Balkans because it's constantly being conquered by different techno-barbarians, like over and over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_00]: And all she's learning is like, oh, people in charge [SPEAKER_02]: Mummy has a wild sense of morality and yes, she learns it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what she learned. [SPEAKER_00]: She learns that this power corrupts and so the emperor sees her and goes perfect. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put this person in charge of keeping justice and order in my My kingdom or my imperey and whatever you want to call it and this is one of the few people I can do who will not actually corrupt [SPEAKER_00]: But the problem with the Emperor, though, is he doesn't actually think this one through, because she's going to dull out justice fairly. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's fast forward now, a decade or so, before the onset of the Great Crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember, when the Thunder Warriors all tragically died to a man fighting the last Battle of Terra? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like there's a bunch of bullshit. [SPEAKER_02]: No, everyone knows that he might, hey, what are we going to do? [SPEAKER_02]: Weirdly enough, Valdoin, some custos were also there. [SPEAKER_02]: and they decided that they wanted to see who could kill the most thunder war. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the reality was valedore and like seven custos called a meeting with a thunder warriors and got very stabby in that meeting, but a few of them got away, including the primarck of the thunder warriors, which don't get excited that primarck is meant general. [SPEAKER_00]: I think what to say. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's a primer, they're just them at general, but he seems Oostan and he was the head of the Thunder Warriors. [SPEAKER_00]: Oostan and its chunk of Thunder Warriors escape, the outdoor slaughter and they hide out, but they send word back to the high lords of terror what happened. [SPEAKER_00]: Woma, along with a head of the biotech division, who's name is Amara Astarte, and I didn't use to say that out loud. [SPEAKER_00]: Why just get it, get it, decide to do something about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is a little bit complicated. [SPEAKER_00]: And we've got to cover this story more in some later bits, but Amara Astarte helped create the Thunder Warriors and the custodes, but her greatest legacy was the Space Marines. [SPEAKER_00]: But when the primarx got warped away, she wanted to kill all the spacemars. [SPEAKER_00]: Because she's like, look, without the primarx, this project is doomed. [SPEAKER_00]: They are going to destroy the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: Cough, cough, cough. [SPEAKER_00]: She was right. [SPEAKER_00]: But, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, [SPEAKER_00]: we're not marching on the palace and then she was going here to arrest the valdore because she did not blame the emperor or malkudore despite it obviously being their call but she was going to arrest the valdore. [SPEAKER_02]: You can't play with one of them because she wanted to actually arrest and she knew if she was going to arrest the emperor malkudore they were going to get killed instantly. [SPEAKER_00]: And I, I over right into this, I think this was her kind of, she wanted to test the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: She was going to arrest Faldor and basically hold him on trial in front of the Emperor and Malkador of like, hey, this guy just murdered a bunch of people for no reason. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you want to do about it? [SPEAKER_00]: Which the Emperor would have been like, yeah, it's fine shut up. [SPEAKER_00]: but that's a sign of a different day. [SPEAKER_00]: What I love about this though is that as she's going towards the Imperial Palace, she gets joined by the Thunder Warriors, they're Primark, but also these pseudo Thunder Warriors, pseudo space marines called Castellan exemplars, which were the special [SPEAKER_02]: So, let's tell what actually is going on here. [SPEAKER_02]: She might have got Valdar to talk. [SPEAKER_02]: He's not much of a yapper, by the way. [SPEAKER_02]: Not a lot of conversations coming on him. [SPEAKER_02]: Tucky, tucky. [SPEAKER_02]: But... [SPEAKER_02]: If she wouldn't have got joined by all these guys, I think that everything would have happened as bad as it did, but effectively what happened is you showed up with all of this force and Valder went, oh, I didn't know this was boots of mighty ass kicking time and tell you showed up with this many guys. [SPEAKER_00]: I love you because I mean, they show up with this great plan. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to march in there. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to grab Valdor. [SPEAKER_00]: He's going to surrender. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to hold him at home. [SPEAKER_00]: And he has a great line about this. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's got a good plan. [SPEAKER_00]: They'll get punched in the face. [SPEAKER_00]: And Concenting Valdor had that punch in his pocket. [SPEAKER_00]: So they basically, they approach it with all. [SPEAKER_00]: And this probably thousand of them are two thousand of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Come walking up. [SPEAKER_00]: Valdor walks out so low and looks at them and just says look, so you guys you guys just surrender now and they're looking at like what are the most Yeah, yeah, seriously, you guys are going to surrender now. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a stupid no, and they're like no, we're not you are going to surrender now trust me and they come to know we're not we're not all right [SPEAKER_00]: And then 10,000 first Legion of Starty is comporing out of the complex because they were ready. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is full blown, you know, Death Star episode six like that they are fully operational and just wreck everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean kill everything quickness. [SPEAKER_00]: although Valdor does battle the prime mark of the Thunder Warriors, they have a nice little chat during it and he does put the Prime Minister Thunder Wars out of his misery. [SPEAKER_00]: But not a conversation. [SPEAKER_02]: He just talks shit to me. [SPEAKER_00]: The other weird part of this though is that Amara's party sneaks off during this and gets down to the lab where they're [SPEAKER_00]: building the space marines and she has a bomb with her gets confronted by a custod and then suicide bombs the lab to take it out but this made no sense because this is the year 30,000 right now is 2026 and I have a full cloud backup of my computer so yeah so she blew it up and the emperor was like yeah it's in the cloud I don't know you blew up all my chances [SPEAKER_00]: although then it gets lost later I don't know because then like when Ravenguard want to get a copy of it it's like oh you have to go over there it's hidden like you couldn't just go to Microsoft and like all right pull it up there there's no Google drive you're gonna pull that from I do love the fact that Veldor [SPEAKER_02]: Gives her clemency. [SPEAKER_02]: It does. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, but I like this fact because effectively what he says is, you're just too good to be part of the world. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Darren. [SPEAKER_00]: This part is great. [SPEAKER_00]: At the end of it, everyone's day except for WOMA. [SPEAKER_00]: She survives basically. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, a lot of them survive. [SPEAKER_00]: Velder stabs all of them. [SPEAKER_00]: But he WOMA. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be like, oh, magic, it's both of these the only survivor, but she's the only story by the way, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Valdoard does start to talk while he's finishing people, yes, like, just like, hey, you know, you're kind of a good person, stab, and you maybe this isn't the right job for you, stab, but he does tell her, like, look, I'm not going to kill you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even going to punish you. [SPEAKER_00]: The only thing, but you don't get to be a lord of terror anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to ask you just to leave basically the imperial complex and he settles her outside of that and gives her a very good life She lives out the rest of her days in peace and what he sets the stage though. [SPEAKER_02]: I just kind of tells her You aren't morally sucking. [SPEAKER_00]: No, you cannot be you. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly [SPEAKER_00]: What I like about is that he doesn't hold her at fault at all. [SPEAKER_00]: He recognizes everything she did was correct. [SPEAKER_00]: But also for the job of hearing Williams, you can't be. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, he gives the agent speech with serenity. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: You're like, I can't live in this world. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I have to, I'm a monster. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: This is what he's just like, yeah, man. [SPEAKER_02]: If you're going to be in this job, you have to be terrible. [SPEAKER_00]: And so there goes the first and only good Lord of Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's move on and let's then we have 12,000 years of sun. [SPEAKER_00]: So now it's going to evolve. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_00]: So Terra is conquered. [SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor sets a site in the galaxy, but now there's going to be a lot more moving parts. [SPEAKER_00]: And so to achieve this. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to, we have to expand out from the Magister's temporal. [SPEAKER_00]: So that gets dissolved and we get two things. [SPEAKER_00]: We get the Council of Terra and the War Council. [SPEAKER_00]: The War Council is the Emperor, Malkador, and Valdor. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a fun council. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they add Kelobor Hall and then they keep adding primarks as they go. [SPEAKER_02]: It is, it has, they get discovered. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but we're not talking about that because that would give Brad joy. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about the other side which is all lords of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: So at this stage, they're called the council of terror because that was about their level of power. [SPEAKER_00]: They were a council who would give you a told the shut the f up whenever the emperor got upset. [SPEAKER_02]: Let us set this stage a little bit because we haven't talked about in a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: What are the big things about it? [SPEAKER_02]: At this time, the upper and mouth contour are wildly. [SPEAKER_02]: They have their talents and everything. [SPEAKER_02]: They keep everything very, very close to the vest, which obviously becomes terrible once both of them are gone. [SPEAKER_02]: But at the time, there's a lot of things that they're doing that make it. [SPEAKER_02]: So they don't care that this is effectively a puppet council. [SPEAKER_02]: is they hope they have their hands in and they're personally doing it. [SPEAKER_02]: Both of these guys are widely coyote super genius. [SPEAKER_02]: They can manage so many things at the same time, and they are. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, in the comments, they basically, the purpose of this council of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: The whole reason exists to do the stuff that the emperor, Macro, aren't dealing with at that moment of time. [SPEAKER_00]: everything they do at some point, the emperor mackerel are deal with and they kind of set it up path and go, okay, I've started it, just finished this and then they leave. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the idea and they kind of set up there but as we'll get to later this is this will burn them. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the person also won because the people in that they put in charge are terrible. [SPEAKER_02]: you follow what I was doing. [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, cool man, you're in next gender. [SPEAKER_02]: You're a generational genius. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't do what you were doing, even if I didn't suck, I still couldn't do what you were doing. [SPEAKER_00]: But let's talk about the actual structure. [SPEAKER_00]: Because I do like what I'm at the very first council of terror, I do find funny. [SPEAKER_00]: Because the very first thing that they do is the head of it, the first Lord of the Council is, of course, Melcador. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, but, and then Melcodore goes, all right, and below him, he puts Valdor as the captain general the custodian guard. [SPEAKER_00]: And the reason he does this is a not unsuttle hint, reminder that there's a bunch of custodes on terror. [SPEAKER_00]: And if you idiots try even one stupid thing while we're off-world, these golden bananas are going to come in here and make sure you understand, we may be on the other side of the galaxy, but they're not. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so they don't have any actual role besides just threatening at this point. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no purpose them in there other than to kill the lords of terror if they do something stupid. [SPEAKER_00]: But they have no, they have no purpose on this council. [SPEAKER_00]: Other Valdores with the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: He came and vote or he's, you should not even around. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, yeah, but if you guys do anything, all of my guys come in here and like, pulls you from them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So we're clear, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: So we're clear. [SPEAKER_00]: Awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: But then we get into the actual beat. [SPEAKER_00]: So obviously, we still have the adept as a minister of them. [SPEAKER_00]: We still have the state's imperium, the Lord Commander militant, and the Lord of the Arbytes. [SPEAKER_00]: Those are all there. [SPEAKER_00]: But we've added a bunch more. [SPEAKER_00]: The first one is, well, the astronomicalons there now. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's important. [SPEAKER_00]: So they had, so we can't travel. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we have the head of the astronomical because if that thing doesn't [SPEAKER_00]: is the first master. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so separate from them, but also equally important is the Navis, Navis, Nobelite, which is the Navigator probably is more powerful than that, because the Navigator houses become dynasties and super powerful and it's remarkable. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you get one without the others. [SPEAKER_02]: It's true, it's just as far as people that can wield stuff, though, the houses become super powerful, even though they're not- Oh, yeah, you're a council, I'm saying. [SPEAKER_00]: So the difference is I would say, it's where I'm agreeing with you, it's where it is the head of the astronomical, and it's just the head of the astronomical, and that's a dude who's in charge of that. [SPEAKER_00]: The navigator houses are the mafia. [SPEAKER_00]: because they just sit there and they're like, yeah, if you guys want to ever do anything, you need us. [SPEAKER_00]: You can't do any of this without us, you know, whatever we say, much money and power, it's crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: And there's still incredibly powerful right now. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're also super messed up. [SPEAKER_02]: You also read psychors for a long time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're not great. [SPEAKER_00]: You also have the after-pathic choirs since sanctioned psychors, just basic general psych or presences in general. [SPEAKER_00]: So to this end, Nemo Zing Meng becomes the first master of the adaptive telepathica. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll cover him actually by later this year when we talk about the siege of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: He has a pretty big role in that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: At the same time, the Imperium is growing. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we need supplies. [SPEAKER_00]: So the merchant fleet that we've covered before becomes into existence. [SPEAKER_00]: And so given the size and scope, the head of the merchant fleet gets a seat in the council. [SPEAKER_00]: The one I found interesting though is so does what's called the Order Hospitalier, which is also randomly, that's French, but it's unimportant. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the group that oversees all the doctors, nurses, etc. [SPEAKER_00]: in the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: and given the imperial is on a war footing then still is it makes sense but I was actually surprised it wasn't part of the administrative. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which they didn't get folded in, but they eventually get folded into the sisters' abandon, which I think. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not their sisters' abandon, remember the sisters' abandon, are part of the, they're part of the, they're part of the aristists. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that's why the deptists are aristists because they're part of this later. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a weird, they move around a little bit. [SPEAKER_02]: Because there's so many layers. [SPEAKER_02]: When I think of [SPEAKER_02]: a sister. [SPEAKER_02]: That old. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's surrounded by six or seven other layers of, but my favorite one of all this is the deptus mechanics. [SPEAKER_00]: The story of the ad mech joining this is actually great. [SPEAKER_00]: So the ad mech, [SPEAKER_00]: are currently not well-liked in the Imperium and that stretches back to the first time they were back. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're not really changing it. [SPEAKER_02]: You're like, hey, man. [SPEAKER_02]: No one really likes them right now. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's how it's been forever forever. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone has viewed them as weird and untrustworthy and spoiler alert. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's been right the whole time. [SPEAKER_02]: 100%. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And at the time, they're always doing something shady. [SPEAKER_00]: But the thing about the ad mech is they make big shit the imperium needs and they know it. [SPEAKER_00]: And they don't really like being told what to do by some like weak, all fleshy, squishy things. [SPEAKER_00]: So one of my favorite stories comes in this era. [SPEAKER_00]: So the ad mech joined the lords of terror during the horrors, heresy. [SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't get in before that because they just been [SPEAKER_00]: big stalling tactics. [SPEAKER_00]: And so when they went to join the council of terror, the idea was to show the loyalists on Mars that should they side with the Emperor that he would respect them and treat them as an equal. [SPEAKER_00]: So they give them a seat of power. [SPEAKER_00]: But the other people was sad seed of power didn't want to give them one because, you know, it's more power to give up. [SPEAKER_00]: And even the other members of the loyalist mechanical didn't want to want to be part of it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Because they knew that if they joined the council of terror, they would then be part of the Imperium, which they didn't really want to be either, because they thought the Imperium was all weird, too. [SPEAKER_00]: They just wanted to play with the weird stuff [SPEAKER_02]: Also, it's the middle of the heresy, things aren't exactly going swimmingly for the NBA. [SPEAKER_00]: So all of this comes down to a, they actually try to assassinate the head of the mechanic, um, who's trying to negotiate with the council in order to join it. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, this all ends in this really hilarious scene, which is the council of terror called a session to debate the addition of Mars to the council of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: And they get there and the majority of the council say, no, [SPEAKER_00]: But they go beyond saying, no, they start saying, well, since Mars has fallen to civil war, and they're been attempt on the life of the ambassador, the treaty that the emperor had side with Mars is no-in-void, and it's pretty obvious that the people of Mars can't really govern themselves. [SPEAKER_00]: So therefore, the only thing to do would be for Tara to govern Mars, and they begin debating with each other and yelling each other, which of them should be in charge of Mars, and while they're doing this, the building starts to shake pretty violently by the way. [SPEAKER_02]: I'd love this in the fact that somehow they infiltrated a Titan. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, how are your scouts? [SPEAKER_00]: No one noticed because the Mechanicum kind of saw this one coming and they brought with them. [SPEAKER_00]: The Imperator class Titan Magnificent in the Sendius who is 55 meters, so 166 feet tall, [SPEAKER_00]: which walked up to the building they were all in, lean down at which point the ambassador from Mars went, so are we getting in or not? [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, they still have that seat to this day. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: That was an excellent negotiating tactic. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Oopsies, but then we'll move from then to the post-seize of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: So Council of Terror mostly actually survive a siege of terror, [SPEAKER_02]: real quick on setting this up though. [SPEAKER_02]: Everything isn't disarray because we no longer have the Emperor and Makador both gone. [SPEAKER_02]: It is a wild free for all the only person holding anything together with anything is Bobby G right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is a little bit of this because the custodes bail. [SPEAKER_00]: They went, all right, we're going into the palace. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to secure the emperor and we're not even popping our heads out for a while. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but crime marches. [SPEAKER_02]: Remember, I remember how I said, the emperor in Malkador, held things close to the vest. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the vest are loud gone. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of those even exist anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: It looks disintegrated. [SPEAKER_02]: And the other one is currently a flesh puppet on the throw going. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm supposed to fight a lot of battles great. [SPEAKER_02]: But yes, no longer there's so many things that again, they were in charge of that they were personally doing all the time. [SPEAKER_02]: You have a huge vacuum of power. [SPEAKER_02]: Bobby G is taking care of [SPEAKER_02]: day-to-day trying to fix the amp. [SPEAKER_00]: It's even harder than that because the problem is you have all the prime marks are back and they're split on what to do. [SPEAKER_00]: You've got, and my split not much. [SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman is like, hey, let's fix crap. [SPEAKER_00]: Dorn and Vulcan are on time fine. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll fix crap, but I got stuff to do. [SPEAKER_00]: Correx actually had already left. [SPEAKER_00]: Correx actually bailed immediately. [SPEAKER_00]: The line and Lehman were on their way out the door. [SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, the issue is the entirety of the Imperium is looking at the space marines with a, hey, assholes, but I, because the Imperials isn't had just looked around. [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't the Imperials seasons that had just stormed the castle. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a stardice. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, demon a stardice, but still, that's splitting. [SPEAKER_00]: It's still a stardice. [SPEAKER_02]: A lot of very a stardice. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, look, an awful lot like the you guys were just fighting us, you know, the emperor's children just did to the gap, you know, like this is one of my favorites, yeah, we have some opinions about you all right, so the council is shifting a little bit and then looking at the space marine's going, hey. [SPEAKER_00]: These guys aren't necessarily the angels of the emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: They're kind of the bringers of doom. [SPEAKER_00]: And their desire is also, what they need to keep in mind is whole desire to go run out and chase down the traders and go kill them, meant that they were gonna grab a bunch of resources to go do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Resources that they could have been used to rebuild terror. [SPEAKER_00]: Like when Lehman and them left, they took a bunch of important crap with them. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like could we use it? [SPEAKER_02]: Well, it becomes even worse because the council of Tera becomes the grand council of the structure. [SPEAKER_02]: This is literally this is when Palpatine becomes the upper just for a while guys [SPEAKER_02]: the grand council of reconstruction gets a ton of new powers and ability to get stuff and they're like this is just until we reconstruct and it should only take somewhere between one and 40,000 years. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, more importantly, this also is when they create the senatorman perialis which becomes the lords. [SPEAKER_00]: If that's what the lords tariff run. [SPEAKER_00]: So Gilliman runs the Grand Council of Reconstruction, and he's able to do this despite the misgivings of the Sanatorium because he had a hidden ally, the Assassin's Guild. [SPEAKER_02]: The Imperium uses such crazy, look guys, I know that you're probably incompetent and corrupt, but these guys over here will stab you in the face. [SPEAKER_00]: It isn't amazing though when you look at the history of the Imperium that the Assassin's Guild are actually one of the better groups. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, over and over again, but he's dudes in the galaxy, you're like, you're just, look, man, I know you guys killed people for a living, but you're still better than the council was actually against Gilliman. [SPEAKER_00]: And then one of the guys that will cover him later got himself a seat on the council by telling the head of the a bit of stratum, well, everyone around you is an assassin right now. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm getting in right and then he got in and then he told the rest [SPEAKER_00]: So those are your choices. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And to be as always, I've said before, Gilman did everything correct. [SPEAKER_00]: He had, but he does. [SPEAKER_02]: He does make it. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the problem is, sorry, he did things too correct for a while because everybody that's on this new, I'm just going to call them loads of terror because that's just what they end up being. [SPEAKER_02]: everybody that's involved in this makes a wild amount of money and power like the next hundred to two hundred years are just these guys not even knowing what did their scrooge make duck jumping into their piles of money. [SPEAKER_02]: they have so much, which also means they become less and less effective though, because nothing but prosperity has ever been in front of them. [SPEAKER_02]: We eventually becomes the world of the beast, which right on the second. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so what happens is, Gillam and those sets it up well. [SPEAKER_00]: They, [SPEAKER_00]: re-regrableuna, they reclaim Mars, shipping lanes, all that stuff stuff is rocking and rolling. [SPEAKER_00]: And Gilliman also does another genius thing, because Gilliman is a, he is perfect to just deal with it. [SPEAKER_00]: But he also understands diplomacy really well. [SPEAKER_00]: And what he does is he made sure that as he was rebuilding the Imperium up, he made sure all the members of the senatorum, [SPEAKER_00]: We're getting wealth and glory during this era. [SPEAKER_00]: Each of them were successful. [SPEAKER_00]: Each of them were having their own little glow up, so all of them Didn't want to backstab Gilliman because things were going well, and so this was going well It's growing, but then Gilliman gets stabbed by Fulgram and it all goes to shit [SPEAKER_00]: Let's fast forward a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman dies in, well, dies. [SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman gets stabbed in 121, and then 31. [SPEAKER_00]: Within a millennia, the senatorum has been transformed into the nightmare that is the lords of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: The 12 posts ofsters quote great importance to the Imperium, nine of which, by the way, will always be present. [SPEAKER_00]: The administrative, the inquisition, the minitorum, the canigas, ourbites, navigators, astronomical assassins, can't get rid of them, and telepathica. [SPEAKER_00]: They all kind of hold, and then these three others will kind of [SPEAKER_00]: military leaders, states, Imperium, merchant fleet will move around. [SPEAKER_02]: Because they get absorbed a little bit a lot of times, one of the other nine are in charge of that, because certain families become super, super powerful to be fair. [SPEAKER_02]: You say that there's nine all the time, but sometimes those nine are not nine. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, oh, it actually does go down, but there's always supposedly 12. [SPEAKER_00]: boards of terror now just it gets a little bit goofy because then you actually look at them I then at this point there were six. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't I don't write the stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just I'm repeating what's written. [SPEAKER_00]: So the war the beast we covered but in effect we get to the war the beast and yeah all these guys suck like royally suck like these are neppo babies running their dad's companies in the ground so like Colin Farrell in horrible bosses is basically Warren Buffett compared to these [SPEAKER_00]: My gate is it's that. [SPEAKER_02]: I was about to say that Colin Ferrell would be such a step up from the words of Terran this time. [SPEAKER_00]: They make absolutely no decisions other than letting the imperial fist deal with it Which causes all but one fist to die the imperial fist becomes singular Is a result of their decisions and then the orgs arrive on terror They all freak out and do nothing about it In fact the only thing that the the only time they get their stuff together is when the imperial fist do a [SPEAKER_00]: to tell you. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't get their stuff out of it. [SPEAKER_00]: The fifth kill everyone. [SPEAKER_00]: No, they didn't kill it one. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, they just, he just makes himself Lord Commander. [SPEAKER_00]: That's, they didn't kill everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: He just killed Rhett and to kill everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: Unless the colon became Lord Commander, that's what happened. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you [SPEAKER_00]: But the war in the beast concludes and the imperial fists decide that they're not going to rule the empire as a space I mean that's one thing the space Marines by the way have never been the lords of terror except a very short period of time This is because of space Marines are not meant to be they are meant to be out fighting and they are not meant to be back on terror ruling [SPEAKER_00]: So here's what you have to do, your imperial fists, you're going to leave and you need to leave someone to restore terror. [SPEAKER_00]: You need someone to do it the right way, leaving someone who's pure of heart with a strong moral compass, able to discern proper course of action no matter the difficulty, someone who has valued diplomacy and respect the values put forth by the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: the head of the assassins? [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly who you put in charge. [SPEAKER_02]: Trigger, bitch. [SPEAKER_02]: Who already murder people in the council? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so five, four, you six of M32, dragon, vengor, vengor, it takes control of the Imperial Senate, and I love this part of the Imperial history, because it actually is funny. [SPEAKER_00]: He looks around at all the lords of terror, post-war, the beast, and as a head of assassins, he had an intricate file in all of them and just goes, reviews, everyone's strengths, everyone weaknesses, and realizes the best thing for the Imperial, he is to kill every last one of them. [SPEAKER_02]: And he also does it, the end of Godfather's style. [SPEAKER_02]: He kills them all at the same time. [SPEAKER_02]: And replaces a bunch of them with countless sets. [SPEAKER_00]: That's my favorite part. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of them he puts in new people, but he has a moment like, I can't replace all 12. [SPEAKER_00]: So he's telling us assassins take the spot of them. [SPEAKER_00]: So it looks like, oh no, Ted's still alive. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm always not gonna look, he's right there. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this is magical. [SPEAKER_00]: And for a hundred years, Van Gogh rules the imperium until the imperial fists swing back around. [SPEAKER_02]: Please think about this because the imperial fists come in and go, Oh, come on, man. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they have to, but then the imperial fists do it again. [SPEAKER_00]: They land, fight, kill Van Gogh and leave. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's lead, just leave. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't do anything. [SPEAKER_00]: They just kill off, oh, then of course, and all of the other current heads of Marsha Terra, and leave, but Ultramarine's exist. [SPEAKER_00]: So a decade goes by, and the Ultramarine's chapter master are bad, along with 50 other chapter masters show up on Terra, because this power vacuum it turned [SPEAKER_00]: Tara into like post Shikai China if you don't know that is look it up. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like the 1915 China it sucked, but the the periods about the collapse. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: The chapter masters just they'll descend on Tara and they do this great thing. [SPEAKER_00]: They basically go to Tara and say, All right, everyone who wants to be a Lord of Tara raised their head. [SPEAKER_00]: And I all do the cool meet us here and everyone goes into this big meeting room and a day or so later There are 12 lords of terror and everyone agree those are the lords of tannimously Everyone leaves and goes yeah, those are the 12 people we're okay with this and the 50 chapter masters Remember 50 chapter masters leave and go so we're good [SPEAKER_00]: I always thought that guy was right for that position. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: What a, thanks guys. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone else. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're all perfectly aligned on this situation. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we have another 4,000 years of the Imperium growing and festering and stagnating. [SPEAKER_02]: Just, you know, we talk about this technology stagnated. [SPEAKER_02]: The ability to live in the Imperium stagnated horribly. [SPEAKER_02]: But the Imperian is growing crazily still, even though we're losing everything, also during this 4,000 years, this is when it really sucks to be part of the Imperian, because the Imperial life starts to blow, which is what the part of what makes this actually able to happen, which is Goge Vandere. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so the Imperial Creed starts to grow at a fevered pinch during this time. [SPEAKER_00]: All during this time, the Astardase become more and more detached for the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: And the custodes are hunkered down, I keep in the Emperor safe. [SPEAKER_00]: So the only people watching over the Imperium is the Imperium itself, which just opens the door for a colossal failure. [SPEAKER_00]: some point during the 36 millennia because GW is not very clever in their writing. [SPEAKER_00]: They decide that the Ecclesiarchy would have levied their own tax the population. [SPEAKER_00]: And I can go into the pros and cons of Lutherism and redistributive tax system. [SPEAKER_00]: It's mostly pros. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, civil education based on leasing ordinance, blah, blah, blah, basic framework. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a basic framework of how most countries [SPEAKER_00]: one of John's degrees might be in this deal with it, but the Ecclesiarchy in the 36 millennia went hardcore 15th, 16th century Catholic church because the Ecclesiography writers are all at the end. [SPEAKER_02]: Between the last thousand years before this, the Ecclesiarchy becomes wildly the most powerful thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they do it, but I'm getting as GW basically was copying what the Catholic Church was doing in the 14th century where the Catholic Church was. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, where we're doing or they call we basically, you're paying the night to go to heaven, etc. [SPEAKER_00]: This type of stuff comes into play. [SPEAKER_00]: But the Ecclesiarchy starts dropping their own ties on everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: And what this does is it's putting effect a double tie on planets and a lot of plants can't afford this. [SPEAKER_00]: However, at the same time, the Ecclesiarchy had built up their own military, big one. [SPEAKER_00]: And so anyone who fails to pay the tie, the Ecclesiarchy would declare them heretics and invade and just take it. [SPEAKER_02]: Were you actually talking about indulgences on a swimming? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because indulgences. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, go ahead. [SPEAKER_02]: You lost me for just a second. [SPEAKER_00]: I thought you were saying something else, but it's a good memory. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember indulges, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: That you're good. [SPEAKER_02]: I thought you were trying to see something else. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go ahead. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: So during this time, around this era, the 360 first master of the Mid-Astratum was elected. [SPEAKER_00]: This is Goge Vendier. [SPEAKER_00]: Goge, goge sees the power within the Ecclesiarchy, but he sees on-tapped potential. [SPEAKER_00]: The Ecclesiarchy had been using the power for influence and monetary gain, but he realized no, there's way more here. [SPEAKER_00]: so he went for it. [SPEAKER_00]: He uses the administrative to prove air quotes there guys. [SPEAKER_02]: By the way, so many air quotes for both of these they said, well, I'll be us. [SPEAKER_00]: So he's going to prove that the head of the Ecclesiarchy was a trailer to the Imperium, but he kind of was. [SPEAKER_02]: So what all of those guys were at the time if you want to go pull a lot, but that's what I was going to say. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, man, you know, sick one had those in the other, but he then sees this guy, Paulus III calls him a traitor and executes him. [SPEAKER_00]: He then shows the entire populist that the rot from Paulus wasn't just him. [SPEAKER_00]: It spread all the way through the Ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_00]: Only a noble entity, such as the great administrative, could purge it of the corruption. [SPEAKER_00]: So he declares himself the head of the administration and the Ecclesiarchy in order to purge the Ecclesiarchy from the corruption and he begins a rather public campaign by the way of executing Cardinals. [SPEAKER_00]: And what I like about this though is that he's about to seize for himself a massive amount of power. [SPEAKER_00]: And yes, but he had to disguise it a little bit because he had to keep himself safe from the other lords. [SPEAKER_00]: So Goge does this really clever maneuver. [SPEAKER_00]: Where what he does at first is he basically plays up on taking it to the Ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_00]: Because don't forget, all the other senatorms hated the Ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_00]: because they had been gaining a ton of power and they've been flaunting it. [SPEAKER_02]: So he's coming at the same time, like this though. [SPEAKER_02]: Just the church becomes such a powerful entity and it's the church versus the state at the point of time. [SPEAKER_02]: But you have these noble families which are basically at odds with the power of the church. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so he just, it's it looks like outwardly at first he just slap in the church down and so all the other people are like cool, so there's going the church is basically going to lose their seat who cares awesome and he starts almost redistributing some of their wealth because he doesn't care about the money he's got the administrative he's good to the other lords of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: But the real thing he's doing though is he's taking control of what actually matters, which is the power of the Ecclesiarchy, and which is two things they're spy network and the populace. [SPEAKER_00]: So one by one, he starts taking control of the other lords of terror because he got this incredible spy network to know all about them. [SPEAKER_00]: but he's got the people too. [SPEAKER_00]: So he can basically go to any Lord of Terence, say, you're going to bend in my will, or I'm going to declare your heretic and your dead. [SPEAKER_00]: You cannot stop me at this point. [SPEAKER_00]: Turns out though, he's nuts. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, real nuts. [SPEAKER_00]: Super nuts. [SPEAKER_00]: Like maybe chaos corrupted level of nuts if we're being honest. [SPEAKER_02]: He also probably holds the most power than any non-marine has ever held in the period. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And over this time, he begins a campaign of slaughter throughout the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: He does discover the planet of San Leor, which is Valkyrie, just deal with it since we went to this week cover this episode of Battle, who in the end meet the Emperor and they're super unhappy after they meet the Emperor with Goge and make that very clear to Goge. [SPEAKER_00]: She bunches and before any of that happens, the Space Marines have to invade Terra again, [SPEAKER_00]: And I bring that up because it's kind of the last bit I wanted to talk about here because it gets us set up for what we were We were supposed to talk about today and we're going to talk about next week, which is the miniaturs. [SPEAKER_00]: The lords of terror have an issue and the issue that they have is military power. [SPEAKER_00]: So the lords of terror wield incredible power within the Imperium, incredible power with almost no checks on it. [SPEAKER_00]: They have really two checks on their power. [SPEAKER_00]: One is the internal one, which they all hate each other. [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, there's that. [SPEAKER_02]: But the second one is the one that's come back to hunt them, time and time again, which is the Astartys. [SPEAKER_02]: Every time they get a little too big for their bridges, the Astartys show up and go, yeah, we're real tired of you guys doing the nonsense you're doing. [SPEAKER_02]: I had to attend on your mother. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you think about the history of terror, siege of terror, the start is, where the beast, the siege of the start is. [SPEAKER_00]: They put an assassin in charge. [SPEAKER_00]: That was a start is. [SPEAKER_00]: Who killed the assassin, they put in charge. [SPEAKER_00]: The start is. [SPEAKER_00]: Who killed Goge, the start is. [SPEAKER_00]: Also the inquisition and the ecclesiarchy or lords of terror, they have some issues with the start is over and over. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so the problem, the lords of terrorists aren't running into is what can they actually do about the astartase? [SPEAKER_00]: Because sending the imperial military after them isn't actually that easy, because A, the astartase are much better fighters. [SPEAKER_00]: So your casualty ratio is not ideal. [SPEAKER_02]: You go 1.2, because a lot of these guys are loyal to the attorneys, so you can't exactly grab them and go, yeah, man, I've been fighting with this guy my entire life, I'm not turning on him. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, guys, when you should go fight the space walls, yeah, I'm not doing that. [SPEAKER_00]: My wife. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: They saved my life. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I've been with these guys for the last 30 years, which is all of my life. [SPEAKER_00]: That's an angel of the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: No, and so the issue they have is every now and then they can prove all these guys these are corrupt They can do it, but that's hard. [SPEAKER_00]: You they do have the assassins who can kill in the Stories, but assassins fight solo and okay, you send a couple of assassins out. [SPEAKER_00]: They'll pick off a few of star days, but they will die for it and they also aren't outnumbered by a star days. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the custodes don't even ask don't ask don't do this and the sisters get a little bit tricky because of the fact that the sisters want to know what the holy reason Oh, yeah, fighting yes if the authorities in question are corrupted so the Astro claws [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, the sisters would have happily killed off the Astro clause. [SPEAKER_00]: No problem. [SPEAKER_00]: But that whole thing we did with the space wolves. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that wouldn't have gone well. [SPEAKER_00]: That wouldn't have gone well at all. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's the issue. [SPEAKER_00]: So they need it. [SPEAKER_02]: And I do a little replay on that. [SPEAKER_02]: Also, when you make the sisters go fight somebody that they don't think they should have been fighting, the sisters will come back to have a talking to you about why. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's talking is going to involve [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and maybe one of their many weird as paint engines, yeah, you don't want to be [SPEAKER_00]: So with the lords of terror needed, or effectively was their own space marine chapter, but a better one. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna get into this a lot next week. [SPEAKER_00]: So they decided to build their own. [SPEAKER_00]: One that will do their own bidding, one that they could arm with extra technology and do up. [SPEAKER_02]: And the wild technology that nobody else was getting is they were using a bunch of stuff that had the big no buttons on them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, when you make the rules, there are no rules that's kind of half the fun. [SPEAKER_00]: And so next week, that's what we're going to get into. [SPEAKER_00]: Now that Brad has a chance to collect himself and talk about the Lord's attire for an hour. [SPEAKER_00]: I hate the Lord's attire so much. [SPEAKER_00]: Next week, we're going to get into the minitars. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to, or maybe I'm going to surprise Brad. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about just poisoning space means for an hour. [SPEAKER_00]: But why did you do that tonight? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm bored. [SPEAKER_02]: I had a bad appointment today. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop hurting me, John. [SPEAKER_00]: It's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a doctor's can do it. [SPEAKER_00]: I can do it. [SPEAKER_00]: But [SPEAKER_00]: But next week, we're going to talk about, actually, I'm not going to know the Tars. [SPEAKER_00]: They're mysterious origins. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of their appearances in the lore, which actually are disjointed. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got a very odd histories. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, oh yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And, oh, God, I missed the imperial armor books because some of their lore is really cool. [SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, the other books had great lore. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: The more of the dad, which I'm doing at a depth of con, which will be about when this episode's coming out, is because of Imperial armor. [SPEAKER_00]: That's where you get car car redones from. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so anyways, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: With that, John Barsotti, Brad Chester. [SPEAKER_00]: This guy. [SPEAKER_00]: See you guys next week. [UNKNOWN]: Thank you very much.
