Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: All right, there's a couple of things going on. The Tiger Woods story is not just a sports story. It's a whole lot bigger than that. But next week is the Masters. Is Tiger going to go? Is Tiger going to go to the Champions dinner on Tuesday night? Tiger's also involved in a public golf course project there close to Augusta National. Will he go there for that? Is he going to play? Try to play in the Masters. If you've won the Masters, you get an invite. But now not all players who have won the Masters decide to play in the Masters. They become too old, they don't want to put up ninety five as their score. Tiger has not let Augusta National know if he's going to be there or not to participate. Now fifteen former winners have told the Masters they will not be participating in the actual tournament. As of this morning, Tiger has not let anybody know anything. There is a report that Tiger is still practicing, and that would give you maybe some credence to Tiger will still try to play at Augusta. Will he even go? You know, if he's not going to play. Will he go to the Champions dinner on Tuesday night? He's got a press conference now, at least he was scheduled for a press conference to talk about this public golf course that they're launching in Augusta and he's part of it. He's part of the design team. Is he going to show up? They want Tiger there, they want him at a press conference. This is prior to his arrest.

00:01:43
Speaker 3: Is he going to.

00:01:44
Speaker 2: Go and if he goes, is he going to talk to the media? Will he say I can't talk about that, which I don't know who is who his advisors are, and what their game plan would be for something like this. But this was supposed to be a really big deal. I didn't think Tiger was going to play. But as I said yesterday, I've said a couple of times, there is a photograph of his private jet there in Augusta recently, and you usually go a couple of weeks prior if you're going to be playing in the tournament. We'll talk to Jim Bones mackay, who now works for NBC, get his thoughts on the Tigers situation. He'll join us coming up next hour. Reggie in the final hour of the program. We've talked about it. I know I talk about it maybe too much, but keep this in mind. On March twenty fourth, Victor wembn Yama's MVP odds were plus twenty two hundred. As of this morning, they're listed at plus twenty five.

00:02:43
Speaker 3: Here he comes. He put up forty one. Last night.

00:02:47
Speaker 2: SGA put up forty seven. They won their sixtieth game. Reggie Miller texted me late last night and he said, I want to revisit the MVP conversation.

00:02:58
Speaker 3: I don't know.

00:02:58
Speaker 2: Feels like reg I was Reggie doing. I think it was doing the Thunder and the Knicks last night.

00:03:05
Speaker 4: Is that the Sunday night game? You did Thunder?

00:03:07
Speaker 2: Okay, that's probably why he wants to talk about SGA. But you know, you get to your sixty wins. If you have the most wins, I still think that SJA is going to be your MVP. But the fact that JJ Reddick, the Lakers head coach Doncik was suspended for his sixteenth technical so he didn't play. Lebron had a triple double last night, but JJ said he the way Lucas playing, he would be my MVP. Well, I expect him to say that. It would be news if he said, how are you kidding? Sga is or Victor is going to be but you're going to give your guys support there.

00:03:45
Speaker 3: Luca to me, is still the best player in the game.

00:03:48
Speaker 2: He's not going to win, and you know, it can come down to subtle things like if Denver had the best record in the West, then Joker would win the MVP.

00:04:00
Speaker 3: They're on a run.

00:04:01
Speaker 2: If the Spurs have the best record, then Wemby would probably be your MVP. Should it come down to who has the best record? Is that the most valuable? You know, I've said before with Jalen Brown, you carry the Celtics for half the season, maybe three quarters of the season, Tatum comes back, and now you're the team with the second best odds to win the championship behind OKC. Jalen Brown to me, I would put him ahead of Luca. I wouldn't put him ahead of Sga. I wouldn't put him ahead of Wemby. You could put him ahead of Joker and have a legitimate case. You know, his numbers aren't the same, but he's been great. He's been great for the Celtics. Quietly, this was supposed to be one of those, Well, this will be an off year, maybe the Pistons of the team that plays for a championship out of the East, or maybe the Knicks, or maybe the Cavs. Now it's Boston with the second best odds of anybody to win the championship. The other story is Dan Hurley and his I don't even know how to describe this because it's not a headbutt, but it's almost a meeting of the minds where they touch foreheads after the shot, and you're thinking, what is he thinking to put yourself in a position like that where you're touching foreheads with the official with four tenths of a second left for you to go to the final four. Now, a lot of people this became more than just a basketball situation. Everybody has an opinion because if I look at this and I listened to social media, you know, Danny Hurley is polarizing, but it doesn't look good. But I have to put it in context here, and I think that's the hard part for people, because you've already made up your mind that Dan Hurley, why would he be taunting the official when you just hit a shot four tenths of a second your team is leading, and Seth Davis from CBS said, for context, the referee is Roger Ayres. He's worked multiple Final Fours, known for his toughness and his sense of humor. This struck me as Danny Hurley messing with a buddy more than intimidating a ref This is after the Mullen shot, so Hurley was obviously not mad at the officials. Social media was in his kind and didn't offer that context here?

00:06:33
Speaker 3: Why no technical?

00:06:35
Speaker 2: Well? I kept saying, okay, what is the context of this? Has Danny Hurley been interviewed since this to ask about this moment? I haven't seen anything, but I'm surprised. I would figure local media availability somebody would ask him about that. But I don't think Danny Hurley would pick that moment to try to intimidate the referee because you're already leading.

00:07:03
Speaker 3: That would cost you the game.

00:07:05
Speaker 2: It felt like, hey, that was a moment almost, you know, like, how do you like them apples? That's the feeling I got. You know, Matt Damon and Goodwill Hunting, how do you like them apples? Maybe he's saying, hey, what do you think of that? But I haven't heard anything from him, But the context of it I think is important with this official veteran official and their relationship, I don't know, but I would love to find that out if somebody is. I mean, we weren't going to ask for Dan Hurley again. He joined us last week and gave us a lot of time. But I haven't even seen a statement that. If I'm Yukon the sports information director, can you put out a statement there? When is their media availability for Dan Hurley and Connecticut Because it is a big deal and he's polarizing to start with. And look, I've watched that video fifty times. It feels like I just I come away with these same what the hell is going on here? Like I've seen a lot in forty years doing this. That's wild. You're gonna you're gonna touch foreheads. I can't say it's ahead butt, it's not. But I'd love to hear from the official. Hey, I've known Hurley. You know we went back and forth. You know, whatever you're reasoning is on this or description is on this.

00:08:39
Speaker 5: Yes, Marvin, I've seen the meeting of the minds between players, maybe the coach and mullins. If they would have done that, that would have been fine, but the ref that's almost like doing that the john Shire.

00:08:50
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just wild, Yes, Todd.

00:08:52
Speaker 6: You don't want to know or believe that a coach and a ref our buddies. At the very least, it's a bad look. So that's that's the only a problem I have there. If it's being described as that's just something between two buddies, that's just not well.

00:09:04
Speaker 2: I don't think that's correct. I don't think they're buddies, but I think there's familiarity there that they're both competitors. I don't know if unless Danny Hurley comes out and says, oh, yeah, man, we socialize.

00:09:16
Speaker 3: We're buddies, you know, on and off the court.

00:09:19
Speaker 2: I mean, if he says that, then yeah, that you can read into that however you want to that. Well, he's got his buddy out there. They travel in the same circles and you know, this official has done some final fours. I'm assuming they cross paths quite a bit if they're playing in big games.

00:09:37
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:09:37
Speaker 7: See, that's actually a bigger problem if they're like, well, we're buddies on and off the court, Like yeah, okay, that's not supposed to be happening. Yeah, I do find though that the more like you. I've watched it a good jillion times, and it gets kind of more bizarre slash more amusing each time that I watch it. The thing though, that I keep coming back to is you. Obviously you watch Dan Hurley in that moment, you're like, dude, what is this guy doing? But when you the ref he has no reaction. He doesn't even it's not even odd to him at all.

00:10:05
Speaker 4: In the moment.

00:10:06
Speaker 7: If some dude came up to you and put his forehead on your forehead, ninety nine point nine percent of people would be like, yo, what are you doing, dude?

00:10:12
Speaker 3: Yes, well the heck, because.

00:10:13
Speaker 7: It's just an odd motion to make. This guy is like just going through to the scorers table, almost like ah, I gotta see how much time is left, you know, like he's just doing business, get out of my face kind of thing. He didn't even, he didn't even react at all to it.

00:10:26
Speaker 2: And usually you would get the almost overreaction if somebody was trying to head butt you, you would bounce back, flop, but there was no emotion. There was I mean, there was pause, but then that was it. He just kept moving to the scorers table. Because he wanted to get the exact time. Then you know, all of a sudden, it's three tenths of a second instead of four tenths of a second, or maybe it's four tenths of a second.

00:10:51
Speaker 3: But Hurley is a mess, you know, his jacket.

00:10:54
Speaker 2: Is kind of on and off, and he's walking down, can't believe what just happened. And then all of a sudden he see him coming and it might have been something as hey, what do you think of that?

00:11:04
Speaker 3: And then they move on. Yeah, PAULI like.

00:11:07
Speaker 8: You, guys, I've watched this twenty times and if you had to describe this to someone, it's almost hard to find the words. It's like Danny Hurley was speaking in tongues or having an outer body moment because he turns and they kind of run into each other. And then if you keep watching the video, there's a longer video. The ref goes to the scores table, doesn't say anything back and is working on the rest of the game.

00:11:26
Speaker 2: And Hurley just goes back to the bench and resumes coaching. But yes, it was a If you look at the headlines there, you know it's a headbut's official? Why not a technical call to mean social media, and I get it, I get it. Any other coach, we probably would have been a little more lenient. And if John Shier did that and they you know, had a shot, big shot, now he could have done it to the official after Mullins hits the shot, like what the hell what just happened here?

00:11:59
Speaker 8: Yeah, Paul, the headlines are fascinating all over the country, even international headlines. Dan Hurley headbutts ref, Dan Hurley physically confronts ref, and there's real people that were bothered by this. Terry McAuley is the NBC rules official. He said he was disappointed that the official didn't do his job and tee up Danny Hurley in the moment.

00:12:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's why I think we need context here, and we need it from Dan Hurley and the official. I think this is really important and I would hope that somebody can get, you know, some kind of statement or if Dan Hurley wants to join us and talk about that great or the official. Do the officials do any interviews?

00:12:39
Speaker 3: Todd? Can we get Roger Airs?

00:12:41
Speaker 4: We'll certainly ask is.

00:12:42
Speaker 3: He I don't think he's working this weekend, so he's got some time. We get sometimes umps and refs.

00:12:47
Speaker 4: There's all kinds of rules about that, but they.

00:12:48
Speaker 8: Say no this they know, yeah, Paul, he might be recovering from the attall, look, we should be give a little patient PTSD.

00:12:56
Speaker 3: I've been discharged from the hospital.

00:12:57
Speaker 2: We do know, oh, post traumat stress Danny PTSD.

00:13:04

00:13:43
Speaker 2: He's Jim Bones mackay, NBC Sports on Course reporter, former caddy for Phil Michelson and Justin Thomas.

00:13:50
Speaker 3: How you feeling today, Bones, I'm doing great.

00:13:53
Speaker 4: Dan. How are you?

00:13:54
Speaker 2: I'm good? How many miles do you think you've walked? In your career as an on course reporter and caddy. It's a good question. A guy came up to me once to determine. I think I was in the Open Championship and he had done some math around some what caddies had done. He told me I'd walked around the globe twice with a golf bag bag on my back. So my knee still hurts. So if that's any indication I've walked a lot. Have you had a game time decision whether you were going to be able to caddy for Phil or justin.

00:14:26
Speaker 10: You know, certainly traveling around the globe and doing certain things you've run into, you know, food poisoning and things like that. I missed a couple of days over the course of thirty years of caddying, but I've never had like a major injury or anything like that that kept me from working.

00:14:40
Speaker 2: Before I get to Tiger, I want to ask you about Phil Mickelson, because we haven't heard much from Phil either, and I don't know is he do you expect him to be at the Masters?

00:14:49
Speaker 3: Is he still wanting to compete on a high level?

00:14:53
Speaker 10: Yeah, I think Phil's a guy that would think he could win the Masters. Into his sixties, so it's just the way he's built. He's you know, back playing competitive golf again now on his tour, so I would expect he'll he'll show up at the Masters and he'll be intent on winning.

00:15:09
Speaker 2: What's it like though, for a caddy and a player, Let's say this time, you know, leading up to the Masters, what are you doing? What's your player doing to get ready?

00:15:20
Speaker 10: I think watching you know again gets back to what we're some of what we're talking about today with what the incredible Masters app and what's available out there in terms of watching previous Masters and picking up you know, breaks on greens and wins on twelve and things like that. So there's there's so much you can delve into now, especially again once you get into the Master's App, which is an award winning and the greatest app in sports. If you ask me that you can learn to help you out there on the golf course.

00:15:49
Speaker 3: But are you playing? Are you going to Augusta a week before?

00:15:56
Speaker 10: There's real rules in terms of what the caddies can and can't do. You can't, you know, just go out there as a caddy a week before and walk the golf course a number of times and roll balls on the greens. You can only do it once your players showed up to town, so to speak. The players can can play as much as they want to, but the caddies really don't get a chance to get a crack at the golf course until tournament week.

00:16:16
Speaker 3: When's the last time you played AUGUSTA.

00:16:19
Speaker 11: Last November?

00:16:21
Speaker 3: How'd you do.

00:16:24
Speaker 11: It's getting away from me a little bit.

00:16:25
Speaker 10: I'm at that age now where golf and I aren't getting along that well.

00:16:29
Speaker 11: But I did all right, thank you.

00:16:31
Speaker 3: IBM.

00:16:32
Speaker 2: And the Masters are unveiling a new AI powered feature. This is what Jim was talking about. So this is an immersive way for fans to experience the Masters. You go Masters dot com and tell me more about the app of what fans can experience with this.

00:16:50
Speaker 10: Well, you know, you can get out there through the Masters app and you can see every hole, every shot, every player in real time. It's an amazing thing. It's it's an award winning happens. It's a it's a must have in terms of keeping up with what's going on in the tournament if you're not on property. And it's got a couple of additional features this year. It's got the Master's Vault Search, which enables you to go back over fifty years and just you know, type in, you know, Tiger's chip shut on sixteen, and it'll bring it up and show you, you know, great moments in past Master's history, or Jack Nicholas's amazing pot on sixteen and nineteen seventy five on his way to another when it's just an incredible way to immerse yourself in the tournament and get ready fired up for this year's Masters.

00:17:32
Speaker 2: I was surprised hal hilly when I first went to Augusta back in the early nineties. It doesn't People don't assume that it's going to be hilly in Georgia Augusta. That's really surprised me. And the elevation, the changing and elevation. That's why you know when we talk about these guys have to walk this course. You don't get you don't get cards, You've got to walk it. And that's what you know when you're looking at Tiger trying to be able to play in previous years. Maybe this year that elevation takes its toll on these guys. Yeah, it's you're you're exactly right, It's what you know.

00:18:07
Speaker 10: First timers say without you know, question the shocks and the most about being on the property is you.

00:18:12
Speaker 11: Know, walking up eight or you know walking up.

00:18:15
Speaker 10: The even the first spairway, if you will, to your t shot, it's it's it's rigorous, and it takes.

00:18:20
Speaker 11: A toll on your body.

00:18:21
Speaker 10: And not only does your golf game have to be in good shape, but you have to be as physically as well.

00:18:26
Speaker 2: What do you expect from Tiger next week? Where is he going to be in your opinion?

00:18:31
Speaker 10: Oh man, it's such a tough question. I hope he's there. I certainly hope he's at the Champions dinner. You know, it would be great to have people rally around him there. Whether or not he plays, I don't know. I'm sure the events of last week, may you know, affect whether or not he ultimately does tee it up in the tournament. But where wherever he is, I hope he's got, you know, his friends close by, and there's a lot of people out there that are that are there for him, so to speak.

00:18:59
Speaker 2: What was it like though You're there with Phil and Phil's going toe to toe with Tiger and you're the caddy. Are is there part of you that's competitive with Stevie Williams. You know, Tiger's cat like you you have to this is my guy, that's your guy. You know, how did the caddies kind of approach that rivalry?

00:19:22
Speaker 10: Yeah, there's a little of that, certainly with you know, with Steve and I. You're you're competitive. I was actually pretty good friends with Tiger and still am and and and certainly you don't want that to become a factor when you're out there trying to win the Masters on a Sunday. I'm out there doing my thing with Phil. But uh, you know, those guys, you know, we're obviously on a different page for most of their careers in terms of, you know, how they went about things and their relationship itself. So I usually kept to what I was doing with Phil, And you know, if you had a moment, you might have a conversation with Tiger about this or that, but uh, you know, usually, you know, those guys got paired together late on a Sunday to win the Masters, are some other huge event. You're you're you're just you know, clawing and trying to pick up every shot you can.

00:20:06
Speaker 2: What is it like now you're an on course analyst, but when you see the live players and the regular PGA tour players interacting like is it well, you tell me if it feels like forced a little?

00:20:20
Speaker 3: You know they can't.

00:20:21
Speaker 2: Are they buddy buddies still even though they're playing on rival tours?

00:20:25
Speaker 10: I think it depends on the player. I mean, you know, you look at a guy like Dustin Johnson, I mean, he's still you know a lot of people love Dustin and for good reason.

00:20:33
Speaker 11: He's a He's.

00:20:35
Speaker 10: A wonderful guy, and and I think when he left to do his thing, he.

00:20:39
Speaker 11: Did it in the appropriate way. I just think it depends.

00:20:43
Speaker 10: Player to player where some of the guys might have left in a different fashion.

00:20:49
Speaker 2: Tiger at his peak, Scotty Scheffler right now in the embryonic stages of his career. Can you make any comparisons between those two?

00:20:59
Speaker 10: I can say I never thought in my lifetime I'm sixty years old that there would be another player that I would say, Hey, my gosh, he's entering that conversation.

00:21:09
Speaker 11: Is he as good as Tiger? No, he's not.

00:21:11
Speaker 10: I mean, Tiger is by far the best player I've ever seen. But I didn't think i'd see another player this good in terms of what Scotty Scheffler is accomplishing on the PGA tour.

00:21:22
Speaker 3: What's your signature moment?

00:21:27
Speaker 10: I guess that conversation with Phil and the trees at number thirteen and Augusta in twenty ten, when we had a little back and forth as to what the best you know, strategy was out of those trees, and of course Phil wanted to go for it, you know, from the moment he set foot behind the ball and saw that there was a gap in the pines. And you know, it's not that I try to talk him out of it, because he was insistent on going, but we had to get that club selection right. It worked out nicely and on his way to his third Master's victory.

00:21:56
Speaker 2: But how does that work where you have to have an opinion in he gives you the opportunity to have opinion. What happens when your opinion doesn't coincide with his?

00:22:07
Speaker 11: Well, he's the boss, certainly.

00:22:09
Speaker 10: And Phil was a you know, wasn't a very opinionated you know, strongly he he he had he was. There was no self doubt there with Phil and that was great. It made it easy to work for him. And uh so, you know, usually when his mind. He had his mind set on something. You know, he was going to go ahead and go and do it, you know, and I would I would say my piece and and kind of back out of there.

00:22:35
Speaker 11: But uh, he The.

00:22:38
Speaker 10: Thing that's interesting about that shot out of the trees was I worked for the guy for twenty five years. It was one of only two occasions where we got ourselves into a bit of a pickle where he told me what he was going to do before I even gave him the yardage. So he on that particular shot, he had his mind made up and he was ready to roll.

00:22:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, and it turned out great for both of you guys. Uh, tell us one more time how people can access all this data AI from Masters.

00:23:05
Speaker 10: Yeah, it's just available through the Masters app. You can get get it there on your phone or on your on your on your device, and it's it's just an incredible thing to have and to you to be able to keep up with this year's tournament. And uh, it's the most amazing app in sports that I've ever come across.

00:23:21
Speaker 3: Good to talk to you, Jim, thanks for joining us.

00:23:23
Speaker 11: Thank you, Dan, take care.

00:23:25
Speaker 1: That's bones Mackay. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. Reggie Miller was on the call Nick's Thunder on Sunday Night. Coast to Coast.

00:23:42
Speaker 2: Tuesday presents a doubleheader on NBC in Peacock Tonight, Kevin Durant, the Rockets play host to Jalen Brunson and the Knicks from Houston and eight Eastern on NBC. Reggie there with Mike Tariko. I'm getting these text messages from you late last night, all these like you you're telling me what you want to talk about.

00:24:00
Speaker 3: You're producing your segment. All right, I'll let you go.

00:24:04
Speaker 12: Like not at all. We work in conjunction, Theodore.

00:24:09
Speaker 2: I thought, maybe all of a sudden you fell in love with SGA for.

00:24:14
Speaker 4: The MVP, not all of them.

00:24:16
Speaker 2: Are you made your decision that SGA is the MVP on Sunday night?

00:24:20
Speaker 3: Is that what happened?

00:24:22
Speaker 12: Not only Sunday Night, but just watching the game last night in that overtime thriller versus the number one seed in the Eastern Conference Detroit again, I know they were without Kaid, I know they were without Durham. I know they were without Isaiah Stewart, but the Thunder we're missing some pieces as well. Jadub didn't play Isaiah Hartenstein. But who shows up to me? He SGA should be again. And I said this on air on Sunday. There's level to that. There's levels to this. And I am never going to take anything away from Wimby because Wimby deserves and he will be winning these awards for a long time. But if we are going to give out the highest award in our game, which is the MVP of the regular season, I get it regular season. I'm going with SGA just for the simple fact minutes played. I mean, I look at Wimby's minutes and they both missed around the same amount of time. I believe SGA missed twelve games. Winby has missed fifteen games, eight and four without.

00:25:33
Speaker 4: SGA, ten and five without Wimby.

00:25:36
Speaker 12: But for a while there, Wimby was on a minutes researcher and if you look at minutes, and this was a wild stat. Lebron has played less games than Wimby, but has more minutes than Wemby.

00:25:50
Speaker 4: Right now, that's the point I'm making.

00:25:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, Wemby's coming off a blood clot and look at the numbers that he put up, and look at the season that they've had, and if and if we do this, because this is what you know, some of you animals like to do. Yes, certain guys don't play defense. And you know, did any of those animals say anything about James Harden when he was winning MVP that he.

00:26:14
Speaker 3: Didn't play right?

00:26:15
Speaker 2: Nobody said that right now all of a sudden, Luca can't play defense, Joker doesn't play defense.

00:26:21
Speaker 3: Jalen Brunson doesn't play defense.

00:26:24
Speaker 2: Uh, if we're going to use that, then Wemby defensively is an A plus correct Okay, as an offensive player plus OKB plus U s G A.

00:26:39
Speaker 4: A minus B plus. He's he's an eight.

00:26:43
Speaker 12: A plus scorer, a minus two B plus defender.

00:26:49
Speaker 3: That's Beau really friendly.

00:26:51
Speaker 12: Oh no, No, he was second in steels a year ago on his way to the m v P.

00:26:56
Speaker 2: There are a lot of guys who were up there in steels who aren't great defenders.

00:27:01
Speaker 4: Reg Okay, so are you saying that SGA does not play defense?

00:27:06
Speaker 2: No, I'm saying he's nowhere near what Wemby is.

00:27:10
Speaker 12: He's not an A plus for Womby and defense B plus in offense.

00:27:15
Speaker 4: Maybe I'll give him.

00:27:17
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I'm just saying, nobody talks about SGA's defense. Nobody. Now, he might be hotly rated, nobody talks about that. But I want to know where the analysts were when James Harden was considered the best player in the game. Yes, and Regg James Harden doesn't play defense. Now, he probably was up there in steels. I'll bet you Larry Bird used to be up there in steels. And Larry wasn't a good defender.

00:27:46
Speaker 4: Uh, he was a great king.

00:27:50
Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, But I've been saying SGA is the MVP. I think he's going to win the MVP. I think Luca is the best player in the game, and I think the.

00:28:01
Speaker 4: Best score in our game.

00:28:02
Speaker 2: I will say that, But he's the best rebounder score in a he's leading in a sith.

00:28:08
Speaker 4: I would no, I think that.

00:28:12
Speaker 2: I mean, you Kich, That's what I'm saying. Jokich is the best best player in the game in my opinion, I agree to Okay, but if you don't. If Wemby's not getting it this year, he's getting it next year.

00:28:25
Speaker 4: If he plays enough games, yes, yes, but he'll I think.

00:28:30
Speaker 12: From this point forward, SGA will win it. But starting next year, Wemby's on the clock.

00:28:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, defends the player of the year. He's on the clock to win MVP.

00:28:41
Speaker 12: But also too, can we please see the Spurs in a playoff series?

00:28:46
Speaker 3: Are I agree?

00:28:48
Speaker 12: Okay, we're gonna get the m v P and he hasn't even played one playoff game again regular season, I get it, but I want to see the Spurs in a playoff series.

00:28:56
Speaker 2: But I don't think that m VP regular season should be pred catered on how well you've done in the postseason. We did that to Jannis, We did that to Joker, and I don't think it's fair. It's the regular season. It's almost as if, what if the Spurs knock out OKC, SGA wins MVP and the Spurs beat OKAC, we can.

00:29:17
Speaker 4: Come back on here and reevaluable.

00:29:20
Speaker 3: Well, then they've given the MVP to the wrong guy. Correct.

00:29:22
Speaker 4: Well, well guess what. They're on a collision course, so let's find out.

00:29:29
Speaker 12: All I know is a dude started the season twenty four and one and right now they're eighteen and two. Since the All Star break again. I know the Spurs are eighteen and two or nineteen and two as well, but I'm leaning towards I'm not leaning.

00:29:45
Speaker 4: I am.

00:29:46
Speaker 12: Woman's fine with SGA as the MVP right now.

00:29:50
Speaker 2: All right, you sent me some notes last night. You want to talk MVP Braylan Mullin, shot and Dan Hurley, and then you want to talk about what Duke did wrong. Okay, let's start with what Duke did wrong ten seconds to go. Then we can get to the shot, and then we could get to Dan Hurley.

00:30:09
Speaker 12: And this is why you in practice, whether you're at the grade school level, high school and obviously in college, you work on situational basketball, okay, and knowing time.

00:30:26
Speaker 4: Score, foul situation.

00:30:30
Speaker 12: There was no reason for Boozer to attempt to throw the ball over.

00:30:34
Speaker 4: I know all of the.

00:30:36
Speaker 12: Yukon Huskies players were going for the steal and all that, but all Kayden had to do was hold on to the basketball escape dribble, dribble left right.

00:30:45
Speaker 4: They were going to foul him. He did not have to give up that basketball.

00:30:50
Speaker 12: So knowing time score because they were up to at the time, even if he makes one or two with no timeouts left, it was going to be virtually impossible for U come. But when you give up the basketball, when you attempt all it took was a deflection which happened steal bucket. No one time plays situational basketball. And I'm not saying they don't practice that a duke. Obviously they coach Shire that system.

00:31:19
Speaker 4: They do.

00:31:20
Speaker 12: But when you get caught up in the moment, people don't understand how big some of these moments are. In the heat of the moment, stuff happens, and I feel for the Boozer boys. I feel for Carlos. It's tough. But I was telling people this too, this too shall pass.

00:31:41
Speaker 3: He's only eighteen.

00:31:43
Speaker 2: I felt bad that I felt bad, But I have to give Yukon credit because it was a great defensive play, a pass and Caravan had just made a tough shot. His was going to be contested. You see the trailer. Always worry about the trailer. And he finds Mullins, who has, you know, wide open from thirty seven feet out and he was able to take a jumper.

00:32:08
Speaker 12: And if there's one player on that team that you didn't want to leave open, yeah, was Braylan. I mean, arguably the best shooter on that team, even as a freshman, and what a moment for him, his dad, Josh, a kid from Indiana. It's it's a Hoosier type ending for them, because that's all we do in Indiana. I'm an adopted Hoosier. So when I say we, I consider myself a Hoosier. That's all those kids do in Indiana is think of moments like that.

00:32:43
Speaker 3: How did they lose him?

00:32:44
Speaker 12: To you Conray, it doesn't matter how they lost, we still claim him. Okay, he there's a chance for a shot like that to come home to Indiana for the final four. His dad, Josh, his family, Greenfield Central, where he played high school. He was mister Indiana Basketball. All these things were set up for that moment. And by the way, that's a logo shot people. Yeah, I mean that's the thirty five forty foot shot to advance your team to the five or four.

00:33:19
Speaker 4: Kudos to you, mister.

00:33:20
Speaker 2: Mullens, Reggie Miller on the program, it'll be the Knicks and Rockets at eight eastern on NBC and on Peacock. Okay, then you have the Dan Hurley moment with Roger Ayres, the official. How would you describe it? And if you're the official, What would you have done?

00:33:39
Speaker 4: Wow? What a level.

00:33:42
Speaker 12: Of discretion here by the official, because you can easily make a case. And I am I'm gonna say and sit here and say, I am surprised a technical foul was not called because you could have you could have lost it on that. I understand celebrating, even jumping on the floor because there was still time left in the game and some of the Huskies were on the floor. I've seen technicals fouls called in the college.

00:34:08
Speaker 4: Game for that. None was given. But the mean mug and the slight Is it a.

00:34:17
Speaker 3: Headbut no, no, it's not head to head.

00:34:20
Speaker 4: Oh they were were they touching one another?

00:34:23
Speaker 3: But that's not a head butt. You and John Sears might have been.

00:34:26
Speaker 4: A head headbutt, but he smirked, mean mug.

00:34:30
Speaker 3: I think they rubbed foreheads.

00:34:33
Speaker 4: Okay, so they head buddy, they.

00:34:35
Speaker 3: Didn't head butt. They had rubbed. They met together.

00:34:40
Speaker 4: Very surprised that I was not called.

00:34:43
Speaker 12: I give the official and officiating crew a lot of credit for swallowing their whistles because as unbelievable moment that was for Brayln Mullins, for Yukon basketball, it could have been mirrored in contra if that official would have blew the whistle and gave coach Hurley a technical for them, So I would have been two shots from anyone, I assume, yeah, and you could have easily lost that game. Well discretion by the official, Theodore.

00:35:20
Speaker 2: I think that's two people in a moment, a public moment, who understood each other. Yea, And that's why nothing was called.

00:35:29
Speaker 12: I think there was history there between that particular official ye and Dan Hurley, because again, you could easily made a case and far be it.

00:35:41
Speaker 4: From me to support anything that Duke does.

00:35:44
Speaker 12: Sorry Grant, but if you're a Duke fan, you could easily make a case that should have been a technical foul.

00:35:52
Speaker 3: Do you hate Duke?

00:35:53
Speaker 4: No?

00:35:55
Speaker 3: Did you Duke?

00:35:57
Speaker 12: Duke is They're a lot like the Knicks. They just think they're better than everyone else.

00:36:03
Speaker 4: That's all.

00:36:05
Speaker 12: They think their brand of basketball, their style of basketball, their players are better than they I had this conversation with Billy King all the time, one of my best friends in life, assistant coach with the Pacers, and we just go back and forth.

00:36:18
Speaker 4: All the time about Duke basketball, the brotherhood, and I get it.

00:36:21
Speaker 12: I love them, I love Coach k I love a lot of the players. I've played with a few duke players in my lifetime, but they just think they're better than everyone else. And that's what that's why. It kind of rubs people the wrong way.

00:36:34
Speaker 3: How can the Knicks feel this way? They don't win anything.

00:36:38
Speaker 4: Oh, they've won.

00:36:39
Speaker 3: They've been successful in nineteen seventy three.

00:36:43
Speaker 4: They had a good run. In the nineties, they had a great run in the nineties.

00:36:46
Speaker 3: They didn't win.

00:36:48
Speaker 12: They went to the finals twice. They knocked on the door, and not everyone could be a champion. All right, we're all on your cotels.

00:37:00
Speaker 2: What what what changes will the Knicks make? And they gotta make a change.

00:37:06
Speaker 4: Well, can we see how this? Okay?

00:37:08
Speaker 3: All right, okay, ladies out you got you got two.

00:37:11
Speaker 2: Guys who were bad defenders in Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns, And in the playoffs they're just gonna single those guys out and go at him.

00:37:22
Speaker 12: Look, I will say this about Brunson. He leads the league and he leads his team in charge. Is taken to me. That's a form of playing defense. I'm sorry, and you can say what you want about him. I want Jalen Brunson on my team. In close moments in playoff basketball because the dude just has it. So you you can hate on Kat all you want. I'm never gonna hate on Jalen Brunson because you go to play.

00:37:54
Speaker 2: I love Jalen Brunson. I'm I don't want Carl Anthony Towns. Do you want Karl Anthony Towns? If you're Jalen Brunson, you just answered my question. You just answered my question the pause.

00:38:16
Speaker 3: You don't want Karl Anthony Towns. Yes, that's your second option.

00:38:22
Speaker 4: He's a he's a good player.

00:38:25
Speaker 3: He's a really good shooter, shooter, and that's it.

00:38:29
Speaker 4: But at times he does get lost.

00:38:32
Speaker 12: In a lot of times, good teams and great players will find a way to put him in picking rolls in certain situations.

00:38:42
Speaker 4: He's gotten a little bit.

00:38:43
Speaker 2: Better at I know, you got to choose your words carefully because you're running. Yeah, all the Knicks fans out there don't like you anyway, so it doesn't matter what you say about Karl Anthony town they're.

00:38:57
Speaker 4: Seeing the same thing you and I are. Y Yes, the thing.

00:39:01
Speaker 2: Oh, by the way, you got a name for Vegas that the NBA like Seattle still gets the super Soon.

00:39:08
Speaker 4: Oh yes, I.

00:39:10
Speaker 12: Gotta think about that one, because there's a lot of ways we can go with this. What are some of the what are some of the names that are being floated? You know they're not Las Vegas.

00:39:20
Speaker 3: That somebody said the mobsters?

00:39:22
Speaker 2: Oh no, no, okay, here is the suggestion, the Las Vegas strip.

00:39:30
Speaker 4: No, because people are gonna think about strippers.

00:39:33
Speaker 2: No, no, well don't you think about that anyway?

00:39:36
Speaker 3: With Vegas.

00:39:38
Speaker 12: You don't have to be in Las Vegas. No, the Las Vegas. I can't say high rollers, No, the Las Vegas. I gotta think about this because you could be you can be very creative with this franchise.

00:39:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, but you gotta be careful with the whole gambling thing. I know, even though there's so much game.

00:39:57
Speaker 4: Las Vegas mobsters really.

00:40:00
Speaker 3: Are You're not a gambler?

00:40:02
Speaker 4: Are you not? Anymore? I mean I used to play. It's a waste. I know it's a waste.

00:40:12
Speaker 12: I mean, I don't mind going there and playing roulette. You know that's like fifty to fifty though a few numbers out there, secret number, head's big deal.

00:40:18
Speaker 3: Did you ever put your jersey number out there?

00:40:21
Speaker 12: Always I go with jersey numbers, I know, with kids ages, I go with uh, I go with MJ, I go with.

00:40:29
Speaker 4: Michael, I go with Larry. Yeah, wait you there's a block.

00:40:33
Speaker 12: I go with thirty one, thirty two, thirty three, Charles thirty four, like when you're playing roulette.

00:40:38
Speaker 4: But you know how you you could do a block of numbers.

00:40:40
Speaker 12: I can't see. This is how bad I am as a gambler. What's it called when you do a block? Or somebody, Polly, you can do a block of numbers.

00:40:48
Speaker 3: You play one chip in four squares on four squares.

00:40:51
Speaker 12: So I would do thirty one, thirty two, thirty three and thirty four and if one of them hit, then.

00:40:57
Speaker 4: We're going to make it right.

00:40:59
Speaker 2: But you put money on twenty three. Yes, I do, Okay, I have okay, yes I do it. Never hit for me, Mike never hit. Mike never hit, but it was you and it was magic Larry and Maroen, Yes, and then Charles thirty four.

00:41:21
Speaker 4: Yes, okay, that's my go to.

00:41:26
Speaker 3: Michael never bet on thirty one, he would never.

00:41:29
Speaker 11: No, he wouldn't.

00:41:31
Speaker 3: Or eleven, Isaia, look at you, look at.

00:41:36
Speaker 12: You starting things. Oh I would go ten for my Olympic number. So I would do ten. Eleven I did do. Isaiah twelve was someone famous too. I'm trying to think thirteen I did for Mark Jackson and Dan Marino, so.

00:41:52
Speaker 4: There was blocks. I would do.

00:41:55
Speaker 3: Good to talk to you. Love you, Love you, Dan, Text me again whenever you need.

00:42:00
Speaker 12: To text you in the middle of the night. By the way you responding to me. Sleep are you again? I know you're a vampire and sleep never?

00:42:09
Speaker 3: No, I can't. My mind's racing. You know, it's always racing.

00:42:16
Speaker 4: We're a team, we're a good change.

00:42:18
Speaker 2: Say nice things about Karl Anthony Towns tonight.

00:42:21
Speaker 4: I will, but he's got to rotate, rotate side.

00:42:25
Speaker 3: That Durant's gonna get thirty.

00:42:31
Speaker 4: I have the Knicks tonight winning.

00:42:33
Speaker 3: Oh you do okay?

00:42:34
Speaker 4: I do all right?

00:42:37
Speaker 2: In Houston, In Houston, Jaylen Brunson will take two charges tonight.

00:42:45
Speaker 4: Form of defense.

00:42:46
Speaker 2: Tune in to watch Jalen Brunson take a charge tonight. Karl Anthony Towns to try in the pick and roll. That's senior hate mail, the Theodore.

00:42:56
Speaker 4: He's the one that's killing your team. Not me, guy, not me.

00:43:02
Speaker 2: Reggie'll be on the call with Mike Tarco and Zora Stevenson. That'll be coming up tonight. Thank you, Reg. Let's break a bread or dene love y'all
