For The Dads is for every guy who needs a place to talk, vent, and laugh about all the insane, hilarious, and chaotic sh** (sometimes literal) that comes with being a dad.

Hosted by Will Compton–NFL Vet, creator of Bussin' With the Boys, and proud dad of two. This show isn’t about expert advice and how fatherhood is the greatest thing on earth—it’s about embracing the love and suck of parenthood every day. From balancing work and family to battling the mental load, fears, and the moments that wreck you in the best way, we dive into it all with honesty, vulnerability, and a sense of humor. Cause at the end of the day... us dads have no idea what we're doing.

Alongside Will is his producer Sherman Young, a recently new father who’s currently deep in the trenches of Fatherhood and loving every minute of it. Together, they’ll break down everything that can go right and wrong (...usually wrong) when you bring tiny humans into this world.

Expect funny parenting stories, laughs, call-ins, advice, weekly themes, and the kind of conversations you’d have over a cold beer in the garage. Whether you’re raising teens or still Googling “how to install a car seat”, For the Dads is the ultimate podcast for dads who are in it, about to be in it, or just trying to do their best while screwing it up along the way.

00:00:38
Speaker 3: Out there, which is a great way to get the family together to pregame for a little Saint Patti's Day.

00:00:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, we love talking traditions, weekly traditions, holidays.

00:00:49
Speaker 1: You know it's manual traditions, just another one to throw out there. Absolutely, we have a wide range.

00:00:53
Speaker 2: Of topics that we are going to talk about today. Ru and Mom went to dc ru is very sad to leave. Dad got to say internally, I was like kind of stoked on how sad she was, because it made me feel.

00:01:05
Speaker 1: Like, like, Okay, I'm doing I'm doing a.

00:01:06
Speaker 2: Solid job, and you're gonna be gone for a long time. You had a babysitter come over in game night. We have a lot and I have a an awesome, an awesome newsletter thing that I came across on X and I'm going to read at the end of the episode from this here from Derek Thompson. It's three reasons to be a parent in the short, little the short, little right up. The short, little new newsletter was phenomenal. We're going to hit that at the very end.

00:01:31
Speaker 1: Guys.

00:01:32
Speaker 2: We love building community. We have a show starter here about a little one being born from the release. This releases at six am. This this Baby's coming out what an hour after release and it was not planned around for the dads. But my man here Marcus Sesson on Facebook said he didn't hesitate to push for a Wednesday do date knowing that this pod dropped for the scheduled te section.

00:01:56
Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna read.

00:01:56
Speaker 2: This to shout out, shout out the community. Please sending this just to Deeke Sherman for The Dad's Pod because in typical New Dad fashion, I currently only have have Facebook for social media, cry laughing emoji boys.

00:02:08
Speaker 1: I's been watching for the Dad since day one.

00:02:10
Speaker 2: So it just happened that my wife and I had just completed buds training prior to the podcast launching. If there's new listeners out there, buds training is breeding until Dad status. It's been a while thirty eight weeks for us, which included a kidney stone, some fibroid complications did I say they're right? Fibroid fiboid fibroid complications, yeah, and.

00:02:30
Speaker 1: Multiple trips to the er.

00:02:32
Speaker 2: My wife has been an absolute stud throughout the whole process, and God has kept our daughter safe, healthy and growing currently seven pounds two ounces at thirty six weeks, gonna be a unit just like her.

00:02:43
Speaker 1: Old man was good good all to say that.

00:02:45
Speaker 2: I didn't hesitate to push for a Wednesday due date when scheduling our c section, knowing that you boys always dropped the pod on that day. He would mean in the world to me and my wife Katie Joe and what are and what will be our first born daughter, Mia Everett to have a shout out that they will be able to revisit this for years to come. Our c section is literally scheduled for seven am on March eleventh, Central Standard Yes, Central Standard time, so my Mt sixer that also doesn't miss an episode of the pod will more than likely be watching it.

00:03:19
Speaker 1: For from her recovery bed.

00:03:21
Speaker 2: This community that you boys have created is exactly what dads and families need, a space that reminds us all to be present, intentional, and authentic for our children and our partners. Marcus s congratulations. Shout out me Everett coming into the world.

00:03:36
Speaker 1: I was just about to.

00:03:37
Speaker 3: Say, Mia Everett, Hello, Hi, Mia, picture, I'm grabbing you.

00:03:43
Speaker 1: I'm grabbing your little hand right now. If you can hear this right now. Welcome to Earth. Yeah, welcome to the war the dads. You're surrounded by people that love you. We're excited to have you. Good stuff good. So it's awesome by Marcus. Congratulations to you guys. That's just a glimpse the way he the way he summed that up with the community and being present, intentional and authentic for our children and our partners is exactly what the show is about. It all while massively failing along the way.

00:04:10
Speaker 2: I think we can all say that Papa Team six, all of us collectively, the community that watches this, we are an alliance that this is also a lot about failing and learning from our fans and just wanting to be the best, even though there's no barometer on what like being a great parent is you and you intuitively know how well I feel like you're doing most of the time because I have one here and again. We read comments on this show, whether we're on social media at for the Dad's Pod, Spotify, YouTube comments, anywhere else. Email if you want to reach out to us and be featured on the show, writing in leaving comments, that's obviously the best way to do it. Who send you a little dad care package. Pop A Team six care package. Come on if you want to write a longer version, whether it's asking us a question or telling us a story, anything. If you've listened to this episode, you already know what I'm talking about. But if you're new and you don't want your voice to be on a hot line, or you are international and can't call on it from a you know, call to a hotline on American soil, Yeah yeah, that number or that email is six to oh one. The Dad's at gmail dot com. You can write in an email. We read emails, we read comments, We listen to hot line.

00:05:35
Speaker 1: Yep.

00:05:35
Speaker 2: We talk about our dad life, things that we're doing, things that we're going through, learning as a parent, learning as a spouse, growing pains, everything. We break all that down. We have a lot of fun. We think of it as dads just sitting around the garage having some cold ones, having some cold hollypop.

00:05:50
Speaker 1: And have they maybe making an off colored joke. So we joke, we said a joke about I ran last week. Thank god, there's no pushback. Why so we told the guy to drive safe where seatbelt?

00:06:02
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, But all to recall any dads that kind of forgot a little bit about last week's episode. We have some dad brain every now and then, we had some fun little comments or we have some fun little comments. Yeah, to read here, but just to talk about a couple of PT sixers that tuned in last week Noon in Podcast. This is a comment on YouTube from Noon and Podcast. As a PT sixer who's a single dad, I needed the conversation on no last week. I struggled with my son when I tell him no, when he gets upset. I need to do a better job of controlling my emotions, my own emotions during these tantrums, so that hopefully that sets a better example for my son to hopefully learn from them.

00:06:41
Speaker 3: So that slid dude, that is solid. Who was that again? This was from Noon and Podcast? Oh it was another podcast.

00:06:48
Speaker 2: I'm apparently at Noon and Podcast seventy two zero one three days ago on our YouTube channel.

00:06:54
Speaker 1: Hey shout out, no free shout out.

00:06:55
Speaker 2: That's the game most of the time is like you know you, we would always love to go win perfectly. It's like crystal ball. We do a little bit of breath work before we walk into the house. So we do a little bit of breathwork before this tantrum comes. So we're we're a thermostat. But a lot of times, you know, you can go sideways whenever it gets it gets bad, or it gets a little too long for your liking. You're you're kind of sitting there with them in their emotion and you're kind of being stoic about everything, and then eventually it gets a little too long.

00:07:22
Speaker 1: And you pop your lid. As well. That's ever a good thing.

00:07:25
Speaker 2: You use all your skills, you throw the toolbox at them with trying to help them and be with them and everything else. But a lot of times, as a dad, you walk away from a situation I know I do where I'm sitting there thinking about how I could have handled something differently, you know what I mean, And as I've talked about on previous pods, where you circle back and do like a follow up conversation just to let her know, Like number one, it's like apologize if she feels like dad was being mean or you yourself a second, I did go a little sideways in that moment, and then explaining the reasons why, here's how we can collectively, you know, make progress like going forward. Yes, you know what I mean. You're having like a like everyone's like a performance review with them.

00:08:04
Speaker 3: Yes, everyone's learning in that situation and the stadium pulse of a tantrum, I'm being introduced to it with Scarlett's cries and screams are getting very loud, and uh, I'm already like, man, this is gonna be scary when she knows how to formulate her thoughts into sentences with that volume in pitch, I'm.

00:08:25
Speaker 1: Gonna be in the chamber. I gotta be ready to go.

00:08:28
Speaker 2: Their little brains develop, Yeah, spoiler alert brings developed. We spoiler spoilers for New New Parents for it. It's like there think they're they're like thinking about everything. They don't have control over all their thoughts and emotions obviously, Yeah, they don't know how to articulate them, and it comes out it projects out as like tantrums. Yes, if you can't adapt, distract and overcome. If you can't distract them, that's usually the best thing is removing them from a situation, like going outside looking at the birds, looking at the trees, getting the crying to kind of stop, and then just kind of having a little conversation with them. Do you want to go back inside? Do you want to do this? Depending on what age that they're at. That's always usually been the best, and that was distract what adapt, distract, overcome tantrum happens.

00:09:13
Speaker 1: You have to adapt.

00:09:15
Speaker 2: Your perfect little child isn't being perfect in front of people in public to where you might be in your own head of like, man, what are people thinking? Obviously you want to block out that noise. But you are now seeing a situation where you have to adapt. You have to adapt to your toddler. You have to adapt to your little one. You have to distract them. Distracting is the best toolbox that you can use. Sting, calm, sting, poise, staying in the pocket. Let's go through our progression here, Let's adapt. Hey, there's an exit. Let's remove them from the situation. Let's just go talk to him, get them calmed down, like I said, looking at birds, looking at trees, feel in the air, Oh do you feel the wind?

00:09:49
Speaker 1: Whatever it is. There's a car. Oh my gosh, look at that over there.

00:09:52
Speaker 2: Distract them and you overcome the situation. Overcome the situation. If you have an older one, rubbing almost four makes me sadder every.

00:10:00
Speaker 3: Every every day. That's a big number.

00:10:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, but ru.

00:10:05
Speaker 2: Is one adapt Distract, distraction, doesn't work as much because they have more of a grip of what their emotions and what their feelings are to where they're doing their best to articulate. Or ru's a big solver, or she wants things solved. She's very independent. She wants them solved immediately. So something goes sideways and she wants it a particular way, she can get off the tracks a little bit, So the distraction with her is almost like distract removing her from the situation, getting down on her level, having a conversation with her and talking through This is why it's okay to ask for help. This is why it's completely fine to fail at things or not like that is tough, That is very frustrating. I know you want to get it right the first time. Then I'll bring up examples of her riding her bike or getting on the scooter or things, swimming, things that she's gotten better at to where there's there was a needed progress to take place before you could just jump in the pool to where you're kind of leveling with them like, hey, that is going to be hard. I know that didn't go the way you wanted it to go. Back in here, we're all good now. I'm sure you know, you start labeling their emotions. They're probably embarrassed that they were crying in front of everybody. Yeah, but you bring them back into the fold, and that is how you overcome. A small, little example of a situation.

00:11:13
Speaker 3: Someone that also needed to adapt, distract, and overcome in a huge way from our last episode is Trenton Cleins. Yeah, he's the one hundred and thirty seven miss Calls guy remember that one. Yeah, yeah, I was the one hundred and thirty seven miscalls guy. Voicemail on the pod today and one to give an update. So this is this is live. Not only was I three hours away, but my wife was also coaching a volleyball tournament in Tulsa, about two and a half hours from home.

00:11:46
Speaker 1: She's an absolute sicko.

00:11:50
Speaker 3: That's a I forget how many weeks pregnant she is, but like she was literally about to pop.

00:11:56
Speaker 1: She is a sicko. She drove herself home at a I'm eleven PM. Of course she did, yeah et six or just what you said, it would us sick out.

00:12:06
Speaker 3: She thought her water broke, so she was like, oh, I'll drive home really quick, make sure if it did or not. Then finally got ahold of him at four am, when the water actually broke. They both made it to the hospital. Luckily, they already knew that they had to do a c section because the baby girl was breach, so they planned it as soon as they got on a call with the doctor and showed up.

00:12:30
Speaker 1: Everything was good to go.

00:12:32
Speaker 3: Baby and mom are doing great and we got to come home on Tuesday. Thank you all, love you guys. That's tritting clients.

00:12:41
Speaker 1: Thank you trend for the update. Ten and a half hours wait for a volleyball tournament. That is sick.

00:12:46
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and Oklahoma does have some good gay hunting, so that Mike see him.

00:12:50
Speaker 2: That is that's a mentality of I'm not adapting to the world. The world will adapt to me, yes, sir, Yeah, yeah, like I'm going, I'm carrying all. We got a volleyball tournament. I'm close to pop in Like good, that's as you love to say. That's a thermostat. Yeah, that's a thermostat.

00:13:06
Speaker 1: Oh water Brooke. Let's see if I make it back two and a half hours home for a drive, like good. I dare you. Let's play.

00:13:12
Speaker 3: Let's play this little game I like to call is the baby coming or not. Yeah, low steaks, low steaks. I also have from Joe Thomas. You boys have been putting out the best sodes yet these past few weeks. Appreciate the heads up for March fourteenth, which you so graciously brought up a few days, few.

00:13:31
Speaker 1: Days from now.

00:13:32
Speaker 2: If you're listening right now, a few days from now, how many days away are we? So it will be three days? Three days listeners are hearing this that does involve Let me just check the calendar. March fourteenth and Saturday. Oh, great day of the week, March. Great day for some grilling of steaks.

00:13:49
Speaker 1: Yeah. Rather you like to do a reverse year. Maybe you like to do the chef.

00:13:54
Speaker 3: I know you love doing some steaks in the oven sometimes keep the juices in as long as possible.

00:14:00
Speaker 1: Uh yeah, on the steak. Yeah yeah, I was thinking too, Yeah, on the steak.

00:14:06
Speaker 3: And then you're saying, obviously we know what comes after the steak, and I believe the steak is prepared by wifey as well. You do not have to practice that. If you want to practice it, the pet sick but grill butter it up.

00:14:22
Speaker 1: Butter butter it up? Do it?

00:14:24
Speaker 3: Uh? Do it Chicago style? Get some grilled onions on there. Uh what's the uh one where they put the oyster on top of it?

00:14:34
Speaker 1: What's that called of the steak? Sometimes crotter on there? Yeah, a little surf and turf. Yeah yeah, hey, surf and turf. That's a nice paper. Is Pittsburgh styles the Pittsburgh rare? Yeah, the Pittsburgh evenhere they black and.

00:14:54
Speaker 3: Then it's just bleeding on the inside. Just quickly, just get it rolling O. So yeah, Steak and blow Job Day is coming up. I put on my wife and i's joint calendar. Good job, Joe. She will be thirty seven weeks pregnant at that point.

00:15:13
Speaker 1: Joe. That sounds ideal for you and your sweet empty SICKO. Hey, sweet, look, I know you're on the drying Master. I was listening for the dads. You know what you listen to it? You just let me know what your thoughts are. I'm about to fucking few. What is this from a podcast? Shut the fuck up? Who is who is Willie one shelf? What is a fat Stafford? Let's hope the stars aligned for your boy. Baby girl number two is due on three twenty six, but she might come earlier. Any advice for the second kid, and how to get my firstborn daughter to address to having.

00:15:53
Speaker 3: A little sister. She has quite the sassy personality. This will be interesting. Pet sicko, pet fit out. I feel good about this one. This one feels in my ballpark.

00:16:06
Speaker 4: Roue.

00:16:07
Speaker 2: She's got a sassiness to her, very much like a very much like a firstborn type a.

00:16:12
Speaker 1: All the things she wants to be involved. She wants things to go her way.

00:16:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, you try and manipulate the game to make her feel like things are going her way. But second one coming in what we did with Rue is making Rue a part of the experience, like making her a part of this newborn, this next child, next kid, Scotti. She is entering into our family. Rue, you are a part of this family. So when Mama had Scotty and we were sitting there with Scotty, whenever we were bringing Rue to introduce her to Scotty. And I know I've said this on previous possible man's asking a question, So any new listeners anything for your second child. As I'm bringing Rue into the hospital room to check on Mom, the entire goal is let's check on Mom first and then we will introduce you to Scotti. And Rue comes in the room. Our our nanny was holding Scottie. So that way Mom is just laying on the bed by herself and checking on mom. Crawl up on bed, hug mom, checking on Mom, be excited for Mom. So that way, when Ruth comes in, it's like you're you know, we're dealing with very you know, the developing brain. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So we're walking in the science or the research or the things that I was reading on this is that if your first one walks in and mom is holding the second one, This isn't like across the board. This isn't like an aggressive opinion that I'm about to say.

00:17:32
Speaker 1: This is just what I was reading.

00:17:33
Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, that's fascinating, Like I can get my head, I can wrap my head around that. But your first child sees mom holding the second one. The first child in their eyes and in their brain, they are your entire world. And now mom is holding the second baby. Not that they throw a tantrum, not that they get upset, but just building the foundation of what this is going to look like the whole tribe.

00:17:55
Speaker 1: The new baby is entering into our tribe.

00:17:57
Speaker 2: Rue is going We wanted Ru to walk into where Ru was checking on mom first and loving on mom and checking mom, and then we asked.

00:18:03
Speaker 1: Hey, do you want to meet Scottie?

00:18:05
Speaker 2: And then Rue's like all of us go over together or around the area together. Yeah, meeting Scotti for the first time. And we're telling Rue, you know, we're fired up for Rue and how she's gonna be a great big sister and you're gonna love Scotty so much. She's gonna love you. She's already been telling us about you. Yeah, she knows, like she can't talk or anything, she's been telling us about you. And matter of fact, Scotty got you a present for when we get home. We end up going out and buying This was shout out to Stephen Shay. He kind of gave you this idea before we had. Scotty and I went out and got Rue some like jewelry from frozen something at Walmart.

00:18:40
Speaker 1: Let's go.

00:18:40
Speaker 2: And so when we brought everybody home, the gift was sitting there. Oh, Scotty already got this in in and Rue opens it up. So it seems like baby sister is giving big sister a gift already, just to establish like the foundation and love and everything that's going on yeah with Rue, the dynamic of having your second one, the dynamic of having two kids, and a lot of times, like a lot of our language when we had the newborn wouldn't be Rue, I'll play with you, or I'll get your toy, or I'll get your milk, or i'll do this thing for your first child. Hey, I will do that for you when I get done with Scotty. A lot of our language and verbiage would be Hey. If I knew I needed to feed Scotty and Rue just wanting me to play with her or get a toy or debt it, can you get this, it would be Hey, Scotty, when I'm done feeding you, I got to help Rue out. Okay, when I'm done feeding you, I gotta go play with Rue. And then I would lean down and tell Rue I just let Scotty know whenever I'm done with her that it's all you know. I'm gonna play with you or I'm gonna get you your bottle or whatever the thing is. But we would change a lot of our language, so it's not like we're diminishing Rue wanting our attention and we're like we can't right now, I have to feed Scotty, and they just in their brain they're seeing you. They're witnessing like damn, like I was the kid, or I was I'm the one that you guys always mess with, and now this new kid comes in and you're with her all the time, or you're telling me no because you know I'm getting punched down, because you're holding Scotty, or because you have to do things for Scotty. A lot of our language would be talking to Scotty as they don't know what's going on, and you're just telling them whenever I get done doing this with you, I'm going to go attend Roue.

00:20:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to go tend to.

00:20:16
Speaker 3: Rue, talking loud enough so Rude can hear, and yes, exactly, so Rue is witnessing the dynamic going on. So those were like little things that we did when introducing Scotty, our second one into our world as a family, when we're thinking about the same things you are, which is how do we balance the dynamic or how's the first one going to feel? Those were a few tools that we leaned on to kind of help us introduce Scotty into our family, and they're phenomenal together, Like Scotty kind of bullies Rue. But Scotty, well, we'll jump into it. But dude, Scotty is so funny. Dude, with the way she plays. We had a little play Dave. I'm sure we'll talk about it later in the sude. But her dangling stuff in front of you and then pulling it away from you was She's electric. It was like watching Will Compton play with Will Compton.

00:21:07
Speaker 1: It was. It was honestly incredible. She's fun to be around.

00:21:11
Speaker 2: But that would be Those are things I look back on and I'm like, I'm really glad I learned those things, and I'm really glad we incorporate them because it obviously challenges us because again, you're kind of making a lot of reactive decisions where they're they're pulling at you. There, people are needing different attention. You can kind of get in your old own head and then you just react. I'll get that in a second. I got to finish with your sister.

00:21:29
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:21:30
Speaker 2: For it's like I'm like, okay, I'm I'm coming across these things. I'm like, oh, that that does make sense to me. Like let's try these and then Troll and I are talking about them collectively, we're both kind of leaning on each other. Hey, I found this, you found this. I love that idea. You're kind of feeling like a team building out how you're going to you know, grow this foundation for Ru and Scottie. Yeah, you're also on the same page with your wife. You're doing learning things with your wife.

00:21:53
Speaker 3: And I'm just I'm sure that that exact same format of with Rue for the introduction of Scotty will be the same way of like during big events of Rue's first time trying out for a sports team and Scotty's old enough to like know what's going on, and bringing Scotty along of like we got a cheer on big sister and we got it.

00:22:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's about big Sister.

00:22:16
Speaker 3: It kind of like creates that whole dynamic of we we we Yeah.

00:22:21
Speaker 2: And then down the road when Scotty's going through her first things and Rue's wanting to go to the playground or I don't want to do this, and you're having those moments of telling her, hey, Scotty came to it comes all your stuff, like oh, this is all like, this is how we go about this is Scotty's very first time and how did you feel when it was your first time and Mom and dad, we're all excited for you. Felt good, right, you are now part of this with helping Scotty like she's very excited. You've gotten to do your first time or you gotten to do your ballet class and we love doing it with you. Yes, and that probably made you feel really good and really comfortable. And now we want to We want Scotty to feel all the same things, all the same excitement. How do you think she would feel her big sits? Try to smile on her face watching her helping her, not too much, don't get out there on the day floor with her instructing.

00:23:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but helping her and just being happy for it make her feel really good.

00:23:09
Speaker 3: And dude, I hate to jump ahead, but I think you're gonna have no trouble at all having Scotty be willing to help. Will you please tell the Sichos about when we asked Scotty to help teach Scarlett how to crawl and what comments, because that was one of the best moments I've ever seen in my life.

00:23:30
Speaker 2: So on Sunday we had a little playdate with Scotty and Scarlett.

00:23:35
Speaker 1: Very quick Scotty between naps. Eight months, Scarlet's eight months. Scar Yes, Scarlet's eight months. Scotti's fifteen months or sixteen months. Scotty's actually shout out, Scotty, she's sixteen months. She's sixteen months March tenth, come on yesterday, she was sixteen months. But we're upstairs.

00:23:55
Speaker 2: We're in the playroom and they're both sitting across with each other, you know, kind of playing with toys together, Scotty grabbing stuff or like trying to pull the We're like, hey, we share, can you give that to scar scar And she'd hand it over and give it a scar Star, and we're doing the whole thing where you're trying to Scarlet is just fascinated with Scotty.

00:24:10
Speaker 1: She's fascinated to be them sest with Scotti and.

00:24:14
Speaker 2: Sharm was telling me that they were trying to work on crawling with her and like doing tum me time and doing all these things to where it's like getting her up to her base, like using her arms and using her hands and getting her up to her hands and knees, and so we're like, Scotty, will you show Scarlet how to how to crawl? And I kind of put Scott kind of put Scotty on the ground. Scotty like crawls a couple of steps and then like stops, you know, and then does the whole stand.

00:24:34
Speaker 1: Up literally literally the loudest grind of all time.

00:24:38
Speaker 2: And so Sharm takes Scarlet and lays Scarlet on her stomach, and we're trying to help her crawl, like come on, you gotta you gotta get your hips up or try to push your trying to push your legs to where her knees get upright, and Scottie walks just walks over there.

00:24:52
Speaker 1: She's fasting by Scarlet too.

00:24:55
Speaker 2: She walks over there and she just starts grabbing Scarlet by the back of the onesie to lift her up and.

00:25:00
Speaker 3: Then heaving dude, like full on both hands and trying to just.

00:25:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, like around the like around the waist, like grabbing the back of her one's and like lifting it up to where the closes are stretching. And then we're laughing like hey, Scotty, like give give Scarlet some space, like she's gotta we gotta give her some space.

00:25:17
Speaker 1: And then Scotty.

00:25:18
Speaker 2: Would like walk back over and get to her hand is around like her shoulder and around like the side on her stomach and she's trying to like take and lift her up.

00:25:26
Speaker 1: Bro. We explicitly asked Scotty before this, We said, Scotty, Scarlet's trying to learn how to crawl. Do you think you can show her how to crawl?

00:25:36
Speaker 3: So she totally received that message as a sixteen month old from you. Crawls over to Scarlet and she said, Scarlet's not crawling. So she's like, don't worry, I got this, gets up and just is like she's not getting her hips up. He was like, watching will try and teach somebody how to attack.

00:25:53
Speaker 1: The egg up. She's like, get it, get the hips off the ground. What are we doing?

00:25:58
Speaker 2: It was like watching Dane Gables had enough in his wrestling room and he's going and helping position all.

00:26:03
Speaker 1: The wrestlers on the mask.

00:26:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, Scotty just again just waddles on over and she's trying to take full control of the situation at grunting, trying to like lift her up all around like the hip airy and everything else. Like she's not getting too much where she grabs her face or anything. That's what I'm sitting there being nervous about Scottie.

00:26:18
Speaker 3: He was saying very which I as a parent, I'm like, bro, I got no problem. Like Scotty even kind of fell on Scarlett at one point and Will was like, oh, I'm like, dude.

00:26:30
Speaker 2: Every parent goes the dynamic, whether you're with a great friend or whether you're around like a stranger. There's just there's something going on that's happening in my brain to where we all know we do things differently, even though we're all kind of aligned on same things we want to happen with our kids. And when my kids like standing over yours are grabbing or in my brain seeming invasive or getting to where she could like fall over her like fall in her head, I'm thinking of worst case scenarios and thinking like I don't want to just let this go and let this happen because I don't know how you're.

00:27:01
Speaker 1: Feeling in the moment. I don't know why anything's going on.

00:27:03
Speaker 2: So you're just trying to think your instinct is control your kid a little bit, because we're trying to have like some manners. Oh, and you have no control over what your little ones are thinking. You you're sitting there and you're.

00:27:12
Speaker 1: Both parents and you're stating there watching your little ones player go at it, and both parents are kind of standing there like we're or any boundaries.

00:27:18
Speaker 2: This one seems a little bit more aggressive than mine. Like that, parents probably thinking I wonder if this is okay. You're sitting there thinking I don't mind this at all, But I'm like.

00:27:27
Speaker 1: Well, what does he mind? This?

00:27:30
Speaker 3: Being is as at an eight month old Scarlett is a perpetual dough in headlights, Like she all she can do is sit up straight and smile.

00:27:39
Speaker 5: That that's what there will was Vince Vaughn and wedding Crashers talking about the dates. Is she happy? Am I at the date? Am I talking too much? Is she not talking enough? Like the dad version of that, that is like the vibe. It's like you're sitting there. Do they think this is okay?

00:27:53
Speaker 2: I think this is okay, but I will I won't let it be okay if I feel like you don't think this is okay. But if you think it's okay and I think it's okay, and we just think, if the worst case scenario happens, and we're all okay with that together, we can allow that to happen.

00:28:04
Speaker 1: But if we don't want the worst case scenario that I'm thinking.

00:28:06
Speaker 2: Of my head to happen, then I can just I can intervene and pull them off. But if you say to me, hey, I'm totally cool with this, I'm thinking, oh, I I'm cool with this too.

00:28:14
Speaker 1: I just didn't know, you know what, let him wrestle. Yeah. Yeah.

00:28:17
Speaker 3: And I was the girl on the date that that looked at nervous guy and and just said, hey, it's all good.

00:28:23
Speaker 1: It's all good, no matter what. Keep saying like, hey, it's all good. I was like, I know you're concerned, and I appreciate that.

00:28:30
Speaker 2: I just know Scotty goes about her business with the reckless advantage, you know what I mean. Like it's we're talking about we're talking about Scott's Yeah, we were.

00:28:42
Speaker 1: I forgot about that.

00:28:43
Speaker 2: It's dinner on Sunday night with the boys, and for the first portion of dinner, like, I'm getting Scotty her snacks. I don't tell your mother. I'm feeding all these snacks and you weren't even known. Scotty's really sitting there with us, We're chopping up, keeping up. Scotty's just like on her best behavior, just having a great time. She's smiling, guys are engaging with her every now and then. But then the back half, when she's kind of getting a little wrestless or she's done eating, she won't eat her chicken. I'm like, sweet, are you gotta stop eating fries? And you gotta eat your chicken? And we kind of let her. I pick her up, I let her out of her out of the high chair, to let her kind of walk around Pinewood Pine Woods, an officer spot here in Nashville.

00:29:16
Speaker 1: No free shoutouts, but got a lot of space to walk in and there's like bowling and others.

00:29:20
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and Scotty's just having a great time walking around, kind of working the room, going around the wall. Hey, not that far and now you can't like leave our site. Yeah yeah, kind of getting on you know. Other people were fascinating thinking she's adorable, but she's kind of like leaning on their booth. I'm like, Scotty, hey, come over here. But she's just having a great time. Ryan's messing with her. All the boys are messing with her.

00:29:40
Speaker 6: Yeah.

00:29:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, she was a lot of fun.

00:29:42
Speaker 3: The best part too, of the uh saga of Scotty training Scarlet to crawl was will then coming in and pulling Scotty off of Scarlet fully and being like, hey, too much, guy, too much, but appreciate you. And Scotty didn't break down into fl tears, but she was letting you know, dude, you explicitly asked me to teach her how to crawl. She wasn't getting her button there, and now you're pulling me off of her.

00:30:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, what doesn't make sense to me that she can't crawl? Like can't all of us crawl? And you said we got to get her going. Hey, Scotty, teach her how to crawl? And what am I doing teaching her? And then now you're pulling me off of her. But she literally was like ah ah, she.

00:30:23
Speaker 1: Didn't like it.

00:30:24
Speaker 2: She didn't like it. Great dad hack. For over the weekend, I was solo with Scottie. Mom and Rue were in d C for the weekend doing Bar three sight seeing and doing a lot of things on Mom's in with Bar three and so a great dad hack is having the boys. I got a couple obviously, play dates, things that burn time. I take Scotty to the coffee shop, burn some time there, take it to the playground, burn some time there. We did a playdate that else burnt time before nap time, but also the boys. I conned three of the boys from the shop to essentially help me watch her eat. Yeah, because I wanted to get her out of the house. Let's go get some dinner. Was it just gonna be me and Scotty? I would, I'll be totally fine if it's just me and Scotty. But how can I also cross off a social aspect of my life, like I haven't eaten at all or anything yet, like one on one with Derek or gotten to know him outside of the shop. Yes, I was hopeful you were gonna be one of the guys to respond. But I reach out to all the guys who are from that work with busting.

00:31:18
Speaker 1: I reach out to all the boys who were that I knew were in town. Full chat.

00:31:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, meal On, your boy who wants to come? Really set up? It's gonna be an early dinner because it's basically gonna be it's gonna be with me and Scotty, But anybody interested if you guys hit up, made a smaller group chat and basically told him I just conned you guys and essentially helping me watch Scotti.

00:31:37
Speaker 1: What we eat dinner. But great dad hack out. There is a good day.

00:31:40
Speaker 2: Hit off some friends stuff, hit off some work stuff, hit off some Scottie stuff.

00:31:45
Speaker 1: It scotti around people.

00:31:46
Speaker 3: I went and got pot belly with BC four my guy here with Scarlet. That was actually on Valentine's Day. That was our Valentine's Day date, little daddy daughter date. And but dude, so easy and fun to just rip with a friend. Yeah, like any parent that's sitting there, that's like, I'm never gonna see my friends again. Oh contrere. It's it's very simple to go. Just grab a bite. I did, grab a lollipop, grab a drink. Like I'm a believer in that. I don't see anything weird in that.

00:32:19
Speaker 1: He also, you didn't even need to.

00:32:21
Speaker 5: It was funny because like you texted the smaller group and said, haha, I've conned you into watching my daughter eat with me, and all I think all three of us were like we kind of knew that, we could have assumed there was something else here, but like that's we yes, we want to go.

00:32:38
Speaker 1: Funny. He was like, I got all of you guys, and we're like, all right.

00:32:43
Speaker 2: We were totally cool with in the beginning we kind of knew what we were signing up for.

00:32:46
Speaker 4: You said free meal though, right, but you're getting a check right. Oh my god, I was. He was texting back and go I was with Alex. I was like, damn, Will's having everyone else to eat and I'm gonna miss it.

00:32:59
Speaker 1: And now it's like, oh, that's crat.

00:33:01
Speaker 4: Oh he just said that he conned everybody into watching scott And she goes, that sounds even better, Like what's the That doesn't sound like a drawback at all.

00:33:08
Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, it was a lot of fun, man, Like it fired me up coming in the next day and some of the boys were talking about how fun Scotty was and everything else. Because again, like as a parent, and you you just think in terms you don't want to be.

00:33:20
Speaker 1: I don't know, you don't want to annoy people with your.

00:33:22
Speaker 2: Kid, And I know that's a fake assumption, that's a fake fear that we all make up.

00:33:27
Speaker 1: But you're sitting there.

00:33:27
Speaker 2: It's like, you know, number one, it'd be fun to go out and socialize, but you don't want to sit there and annoy people with all the things you got to do with being a parent. And now that I'm singing out loud. I sound ridiculous. I sound ridiculous saying that.

00:33:42
Speaker 1: It's not ridiculous thing unless you're like that type of guy that's like, hey, I or gal of like I really hate babies.

00:33:50
Speaker 3: I really hate small children. Why in the world is my friend asking me to hang out with them? I don't see who would not be like down and cool to hang that you. I wouldn't already know going into asking the question. They don't really care to be around, or they don't for whatever reason they want to draw a line and hey, no kids, Yeah, no kids, which there are those no kids situations obviously, like hey, we're doing this big golf trip, we're doing this big hunting for sure, and then you roll up with you know, Scarlett on your chest.

00:34:22
Speaker 1: They're like, what in the world you got a shout out from demon?

00:34:26
Speaker 5: Because we were sitting there and Scotty was kind of operating and like ran over another family and this and that, this and that, and I believe the words Dared said were like hanging out with shrm so much, like I'm so much better around babies now because we was all talking about like our comfortability with like children and things like that, and he was like, yeah, I don't really get babies, but like scar scars helped me get.

00:34:47
Speaker 2: Babies, Demons Demons twenty four And when he explained some of that stuff like being around Scarlet and everything else, I'm like, buddy, I'm with you, Like I completely understand where you're coming from. Before I had my kids, like, I wasn't a big baby guy. Not that I didn't like babies, but anytime they wanted me to hold him, I was always very nervous to whole kids. Yeah, I don't know how.

00:35:07
Speaker 1: I didn't have like, you know, any game with like talking to the child. You know what I mean? Yes, story, I do the little baby voice.

00:35:14
Speaker 2: I never felt comfortable doing it around people or like operating with kids. I was like, I was the same way as you. Obviously I'm a parent now, so you're you're way more comfortable, you have way more fun. It's kind of like open your eyes, Like, man, it's weird how much I was just kind of uncomfortable around babies. But I wasn't a big baby person whatsoever until I had real.

00:35:34
Speaker 3: I feel like naturally people from birth to like probably around like Ruth's age, because Ruth's like really out and about at three almost four. Uh, like they just kind of only do stuff with the family, or they're only doing stuff at the house, so like you don't really just run into a bunch of newborn babies.

00:35:54
Speaker 1: All that are true.

00:35:55
Speaker 2: And if I think back to me growing up, like my dad was an only child. We lived in Francis County where my dad's parents, my grandma and grandpa that were talking about a couple of others, Yes, those are my dad's parents. So we grew up around My dad was an only child, so there was no uncles. Like my mom, she lived away her her family's kind of scattered across the country. But I didn't grow up around you know, aunts and uncles or where there's new kids coming into the fold. Like Whyatt is six years younger than me, so by the time why it was born. No, Cody's a year below me. So there's two of us and we were a great part. And then Whyatt was the youngest who's six years younger than me, So you know that I just we were never around babies or kids like some of my like one of my best friends, Logan, they were they were like twelve of them. So he was always very good with babies a couple of different marriages, and ultimately there was a full twelve of them. Some are step some are step siblings. So he was just always comfortable because he's around the house and operating with a newborn or whatever it is, or.

00:36:55
Speaker 1: He was always comfortable.

00:36:56
Speaker 2: But I just didn't grow up around where there's kids everywhere, and I just knew what to do all the time.

00:37:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what makes sense? Yes, and thank you for sharing that.

00:37:04
Speaker 3: That's actually really cool to hear from demon And and Asket's sick.

00:37:08
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he.

00:37:09
Speaker 2: Still thinks raising a dog is the same as he does. He does there are those people again.

00:37:14
Speaker 1: And there are those parallels. I'll give him that, Yeah, there are.

00:37:18
Speaker 2: My parents got a Conyan named after Conan and the Barbarian and rottweiler who they trained and did all this stuff. They spent a year with Conan before they were doing that to trial, before they had me, before they had their first kid right on. So some people do think in a way like responsibility of a dog, because there are a lot of responsibility there are a dog. Then when you become a parent you almost laugh at the dog people. But I completely get It's like you sit there and trial run a dog. We had Waffle before we had Rue. Yeah, Waffles. You know, she's pretty low maintenance. She's a bulldog.

00:37:47
Speaker 1: Yeah. But there are those parallels, like to.

00:37:50
Speaker 3: Those dog people that that equate it to having a baby. I will say this, if you are raising actual puppies, like you you get that dog when it is a puppy and you're having a house breaking stuff, I do think it's a good training tool of like throw yourself into some suck.

00:38:08
Speaker 1: Absolutely, Like if you're ready for the sixer, do you have a dog chef girl, a pseudo. I'm like a stepdad to okay step step dog dad. Yeah yeah, yeah dog stepdad. Yeah.

00:38:22
Speaker 2: But if you're a Seeman Team sixer and you don't have a whole lot of responsibilities going on to where you might have a job, or you might be going to school or whatever, it is, absolutely you want to get into what the world of responsibility and not saying you don't have responsibility of course, but if you're caring for a little puppy like that is gonna break you. It's gonna make you think about how you structure your weekends, how you kind of structure your day to day because you do have to map out what a routine looks like to where it does pull from you and other angles where you're like, fuck, I.

00:38:49
Speaker 1: Have this dog.

00:38:50
Speaker 2: I have to think about my dog. My boys are going out of town. Who am I going to get to watch the dog? I gotta start thinking about all these things.

00:38:56
Speaker 3: Yes, I gotta wake up at three o'clock in the morning to clean up this p and poop puddle or they pooped. They pooped in the fucking bed and I'm having to claim that. Throw some newspaper on it.

00:39:04
Speaker 2: Throw some spray and spray. Yeah, we kind of just got off on a tangent there. We got to keep it under an out, do we do? Did you have something?

00:39:15
Speaker 4: I just wondered while we were doing the callbacks from last episode, Smith and Lenz pizza's money all remember Derek and Will got into it, right we we got it Friday. I'll I'll pass it to you guys. But that might be the best slice in Nashville. It's gonna be hard to argue that one. Yep, awesome pizza.

00:39:35
Speaker 2: And by the way, we got in a little taff we got in a little dust up last week. The under the under arching theme there is we are allies. We are allies. I need a deep to be mobilized more. In previous engagements that we've we've had over the food topic. However, Derek crushed it with Smith and Lyn's Great Pizza in Nashville. Loved every slice add about of him. He brought it to the shop. How many box of pizza? About eight box of pizza.

00:40:03
Speaker 5: Up in six and then a ranch for each one when it was all said and done, yet six all taken the problem.

00:40:09
Speaker 1: And to put out there people who are ranch people with pizza one ranch per box. We were light on ranch. We right on ranch.

00:40:15
Speaker 3: But with this type of pizza and we can get into it. We can get into it. You don't need a whole lot ranch. But this is my one note one. When I took my first bite, I completely understood where my boy Dick was coming from. In three seconds, Yeah, said I would die on that hill any day with you now. Like I went up to him, I said, truly like top five all time. We had an artist in place back in Fort Worth that was like some big name pizza chef guy from like one of the big cities LA New York, and it was very reminiscent of that, if not better.

00:40:53
Speaker 1: I told him tough five, all time, great pizza, to the point Derek will tell you too.

00:40:57
Speaker 2: When I got in the smaller group chat about dinner, I had options in my head, but I'm like, based on the resume that Derek is painting youtwo with him and beer and food and everything else, I'm like, what are some spots wind up just obviously landing on Pinewood. But I have nothing but respect for Derek's for Derek's paller. Derek, blindfold me, spin me around, and then just.

00:41:21
Speaker 1: Pay something in my mouth. Put something in my mouth. I don't care that you free Saturday, Yeah, sta can blowjob day.

00:41:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, March fourteenth, blindfold me, spin me around, and put something in my.

00:41:32
Speaker 1: De only Hey, Derek, what are you doing on the fourteenth? You only gonta worry about the first part, don't worry about the second part.

00:41:39
Speaker 5: When he shot me the text being like, hey, you know, I got some food ideas I'd love and you did say I'd love to hear what Derek. It was a good stamp of approval. Feeling like I feel like I got a good stamp, Like if I send you to somewhere or I show you a song or a movie, like I feel good about it. But the other side of it is I brought this up at dinner, like adding a kid to the mix. It threw off my whole skip because if you were like me and char are going to dinner or rinks or something, you know what I mean, then like, hey, no, I'm like, dang, we are bringing Scotty, Like what would be? Which is why we picked Pinewood because there's a lot of room to move and like it's a pretty watched environment, so you haven't.

00:42:11
Speaker 1: Been to the other spots.

00:42:12
Speaker 2: I admitted, Now, whatever you think is going to be the best environment for Scotty. Yeah, because I threw a couple of Mexican like Fonda Fonda on Eighth Avenue or on twelfth on one of them. I think it's found on twelfth very like a little more money, but great Mexican food. Awesome Mexican food. Masorrow is another Mexican texts Massero text mex on twelfth.

00:42:37
Speaker 1: Have you been there? I've been to the one in Fort Worth, Okay, but that's a that's a good one.

00:42:41
Speaker 2: I was, you know, I'm like, I wonder if they've been to this spot or somebody's gonna be like, hey, let's go here. We ended up laying it on piewood. But yes, nothing but respect for Derek's food.

00:42:50
Speaker 3: Just a little future note for any pet sikos out there that are gonna invite me to a meal. But I'm more specifically talking to this group. I went to the corner bar with Jared and his girlfriend and it was listed as a restaurant. We walked into it. It was very much a bar. And now I might be speaking out turned for other pet siccos I felt very comfortable walking in with Scarlet and we had her a little high chair thing, and I did get some looks from the people sitting at the bar top going, oh, that dude's walking in here with the baby.

00:43:29
Speaker 1: What was that gonna look like?

00:43:31
Speaker 3: Scarlett was on her best behavior and you know, didn't cry at all, but I just plopped her right there and we just we sat and Nate wings and they had some drinks. I was driving, so I didn't partake, but like, I felt very comfortable in that situation.

00:43:47
Speaker 1: It felt normal to me. Yeah, I don't know if other people like, you know whatever, so.

00:43:52
Speaker 5: Did that thing because you were bringing up about like dog people and babies comparing. I have the same thing that you described when I take as my dog's a pitbull to dog park where he fights at other dogs, and I'm thinking, I'm cool with it? Are they cool with it? The dogs are playing, and there was a quote, I'm gonna do another quote. You aren't who you think you are. You aren't who they think you are. You are you think they think you are, which is a tongue twister to say, shirm you walk, You aren't who you think you are. You aren't who they think you are. You are who you think they think you are. So when she walks into the bar with a baby, he's not just shirm and he everyone at the bar probably didn't care, but he goes. Those guys are probably thinking this guy is bringing a baby in when we're all nobody cares. That guy's probably thinking about ordering this third beer or something. So yeah, I get that a lot.

00:44:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, yeah, that is true. That that is a really really good point.

00:44:49
Speaker 3: I am often and you know that about me too. I'm an overthinker. I think I think a.

00:44:55
Speaker 2: Lot of us people in general kind of overthink everything. I see what you mean, You're like people pleaser, You think a lot about yeah, yeah, everything going on.

00:45:03
Speaker 1: I don't have a problem. I'm just here for the food. Yeah yeah, all right, and I love my kids. Sue me.

00:45:11
Speaker 3: I have a nice little kind of a follow up comment from last week.

00:45:16
Speaker 1: I have a bigger one.

00:45:18
Speaker 2: Yea, yeah, this is a saddler one. This is from following up last week. I have gotten several messages about the message I had with reading the book and my mom and everything else. This is from Landing freet Does on Facebook. I just want to give a big shout out to Will for being so vulnerable about how much he misses and still thinks of his mom since she passed. I was watching the video of him talking to talking to Rue about her, and it got me really emotional. I lost my dad a while back, two days after he watched me play football for the first time in college.

00:45:48
Speaker 1: Just like Will missus his mom. I missed my dad every day.

00:45:51
Speaker 2: It's been thirteen years, and I still think about him randomly when I'm sitting in traffic or when I wanted to talk to him about cool fishing video I just watched. We'll probably know is this shit doesn't get any easier. We just kind of learned how to cope with it in a little bit and get a little bit better with it over time. I'm a father of a beautiful four year old girl now, and I can't help but think of what a great grandfather he would be. Oh, how much you would love spending time with his granddaughter, how much he would make her laugh. It hurts so much knowing that they will never get to have a relationship together, and I'm sure Will feels the same absolutely, my friend. I guess the beautiful thing is that, in a way, my dad is still in me. It's still in me with the lessons he passed down to me and the love he gave me while I was still here. Maybe that's how my daughter gets to see him through me. Thank you for reminding me that it's still okay to miss him, and it's still okay to feel so emotional about it, no matter how long. It's been very good message, Land, and I do appreciate that, and I empathize to you with on all of those levels.

00:46:49
Speaker 1: It is.

00:46:49
Speaker 2: It's dude, it and when I want to keep myself in an optimistic perspective, ripple effect on making myself feel like you're at peace with it, or you have a happy is from it is like I do think about because my mom is at the forefront of my mind a lot with a lot of things, whether it's with parenting or missing or wishing I could talk to or send her a message, all of that stuff. I do feel like I parent better because of everything that happened, because I feel so emotionally attached to it and I think about it a lot, and it's helped me reflect on the mom that she was to me when I do feel like I communicated those things to her a lot, like she knew how much like we were, we were tight, and things you still think about.

00:47:34
Speaker 1: You're like, ah, man, did she fully know that?

00:47:36
Speaker 2: I wish I could just tell her and articulate it so well one last time how much she knew. And I'm like, ultimately, I do know that, and I know it pours through me with parenting because I know how precious now that it's Now that it's gone. I'm not saying I didn't I took it for granted, or I didn't appreciate it.

00:47:53
Speaker 1: Obviously. You battle with.

00:47:54
Speaker 2: Those demons all the time because you want such closure on a moment like that you felt got taken from you versus you knew what was gonna happen, or this was the plan the entire time, and you kind of package it like like I am the dad I am because my mom was such an example and I'm able to reflect on how much she meant to me because it's gone, it doesn't happen anymore, So I get to think about what she absolutely did for me over time, through all of my years of life, through all my communications. Now that I'm parenting and trying to be intentional and trying to think of ways to connect with Rue and Scottie and be a dad, I'm like, I know she went through all of these same things, and this is what this meant, and now that I see it from this perspective, these are all the things that she did on why the decision led to this.

00:48:47
Speaker 1: Once upon a time in my childhood.

00:48:49
Speaker 2: Like I think about all those things to where I know it gives me that north star, that guiding light in my own parenting that I might not be if she was still here. And I say that I can probably be saying because I'm just trying to always wrap my brain around it a nice silver lining, yeah, silver lining with all because I do I get angry, and.

00:49:07
Speaker 1: I talked about it a podcasts in the past.

00:49:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, I do get angry knowing that she can't be the grandma that I knew she was going to be, Like she would have been the best crush crush because it makes me laugh at my dad, or you know, get frustrated with my dad because he can't just come in for the weekend. If Tarl and I are going to go out of town and doing and our own thing, and I can't just leave the kids with my dad.

00:49:29
Speaker 1: You know what I mean. And I just know it's like my mom would be up.

00:49:32
Speaker 2: But at any moment I wanted to to worry, You're almost we would have had to create boundaries for my mom because she would have loved me and Grandma so much, or putting her input on things that she's not not a part of her has to know like hey, we're our own tribe. Like she was a very A type personality, badass mom. And I do get angry knowing that RUE will never know her through her own relationship with her. She's going to know her through me, through my actions and when I'm having my moments and I'm trying to until I'm blue in the face, hoping that I can imprint on what Grandma would have meant, even though you never met her, you never talked to her, you never talked to her. But yeah, man, I empathize with all of that message. I appreciate you writing in man and knowing thirteen years somebody who's lost somebody super close, not too long ago. It's been four years for me because I lost my mom when charl was pregnant with Rue, and knowing that it can be as long as thirteen years and then it just never goes away.

00:50:28
Speaker 3: And will this might not be the time or place so like cut me off. But what was the cause or timeline? I don't know if I've ever asked you that.

00:50:38
Speaker 2: So the cause was she had a blood clot, she got knee replaced, she got a new replacement, her second one for her other knee, and she was so excited to get it done because her other knee felt so much better, and.

00:50:51
Speaker 1: She got a knee replacement, and weeks after.

00:50:54
Speaker 2: I don't know this to be fact, but in my head, she I remember when we were talking on the phone because that was year I went to the Raiders for my last year of playing, where I went to Las Vegas.

00:51:03
Speaker 1: It was planning on Raiders. I got signed.

00:51:05
Speaker 2: I actually went to my last moments with her was I went back home and visited. We went to a high school football game to watch ye coach, and we spent the weekend there and it was a lot of fun. I went to the Raider Junior Football League and watched the kids on Saturday. We had a great time. And that was in That was around. That was in October November. Shortly after that is when I got the call to go to Vegas to finish out. I was on the team for five weeks to finish out the year with the Raiders, Yes, where Rich Pasaci was the head coach. And I remember being on the phone with her, like checking in about you know, her rehab, like the knee, like all the post surgery stuff, and she was excited and bragging to me she's not taking it. She's got off her title and all because she's very much like a high pain tolerance woman, like a person who's they want to be a badass. They want to do things faster than hey, it's going to be a four month rehab. She wants to get it done in two. Like she was very she was like that like, I'm like that.

00:51:59
Speaker 1: I was about to say apple didn't fall far.

00:52:02
Speaker 2: And when it happened, it was I COVID was taking place and we were about to play the Cleveland Browns and our game got postponed to a different date.

00:52:17
Speaker 1: We were flying out. I was in Cleveland.

00:52:20
Speaker 2: I was in my hotel room because we were about to play the Browns the next day. And I get a call from Wyatt. I get a call this thing happens here. Because obviously I go back to the spot and we don't have to go fully into it. I want to I'd like you answered my question thoroughly. Okay, just say you know. I got a call from Wyatt and she he was yeah, let's move.

00:52:56
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and all essentially they I was just I didn't know, And you answered that question fabulous.

00:53:03
Speaker 2: If I get beyond that moment, yeah, all of that that took place, Besatch comes.

00:53:07
Speaker 1: He's sitting in my hotel room with me go home.

00:53:10
Speaker 2: They allowed me to be home for like two weeks because obviously it's like it's my last year playing. We know, we know him there for being a culture guy, covering some kicks, covering some punts, like I'm tight with everybody in the Raiders organization.

00:53:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, the Raiders organization, the fan base. My teammates were pivotal, pivotal for me in that in that moment.

00:53:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, guys speaking about me and to me remembers A Jones, a receiver.

00:53:34
Speaker 1: He's mentioned me in the postgame presser.

00:53:36
Speaker 2: We they ended up beating Cleveland and guys had all the greatest messages are like, dude, it was.

00:53:42
Speaker 1: My heart will forever.

00:53:44
Speaker 2: Raiders will always have a beast of that because they helped me through one of the hardest times, the hardest time.

00:53:49
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:53:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I get to go home for a couple of weeks and as you know, it's very emotional, very tough. It's it sucked, man. It was the most brutal time ever for a lot of us, our family, everybody.

00:54:01
Speaker 1: Yea.

00:54:02
Speaker 2: Because she was a centerpiece of a lot of things. She was a school principal for a Catholic school, Saint Rose of Lehman de Soto, Missouri, and so she touched a lot of people. And as I'm doing my own research on the back end of finding closure, god, what fucking happened?

00:54:19
Speaker 1: Because it was sudden.

00:54:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, she made she made a yelp sound that my dad heard in the other room and she was just gone. There was no there was no life ambulance came. They're hoping it's okay. You're hoping it's okay as they go to the hospital, but it was it was gone, you know what I mean, There's no there was no like, can we be doing something right now?

00:54:38
Speaker 1: Could something of happened before that? And in my brain when I wrap it around.

00:54:41
Speaker 2: It's like maybe I've been her getting off the baby tilan Ar the Thailand R, like was she's still taking her her meds or things that like got the circulation going to where this blood clot didn't form. You battle through all of that shit, bro, And that is essentially what happened. And that was that was in twenty It was a twenty only one. Yeah, R was born on April third and twenty two, So that happened in December. December eighteenth, twenty one, right before Christmas. My last message from her and I still haven't it's what's your address so I can send you Christmas gifts?

00:55:17
Speaker 1: You know that's a good Hey, that's a good grandma. Dude, dude, she was fucking the best.

00:55:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, yeah, God, I get uncomfortable doing.

00:55:30
Speaker 1: No, You're fine. I hate the crying all the time. Yeah, I know everybody's okay with it.

00:55:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's just man not to cut you off or segue. But one thing that I meant to tell you this off the pod was when I made that video either a week ago or two weeks.

00:55:48
Speaker 1: Ago, where you were talking about your mom.

00:55:51
Speaker 3: I just went through your Instagram and I was like ripping images off of your Instagram for like some great pictures of you and.

00:55:59
Speaker 1: Ma where you're reading captions.

00:56:00
Speaker 3: Dude, Will It was so great because he just gave me an insight into the relationship with your mom, just a tad bit because I've never heard her voice.

00:56:12
Speaker 1: I've never mattered nothing.

00:56:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, and you had a capture on there that they were having a family dinner the Comptons were and you made an extremely off color joke.

00:56:22
Speaker 1: About putting her in a home. Yes, and you're I love that. His as reaction that he put in the caption was, William, Yeah, because I have done that around the office and others have too whatever, Will like go too far with the joke?

00:56:39
Speaker 4: Do that?

00:56:39
Speaker 1: Oh Will Dude? That just made me laugh.

00:56:43
Speaker 3: So I just I thought that was hilarious that she and you play it in the caption that she was smiling when she said William too that she she loved your humor so right.

00:56:55
Speaker 1: Like, if I'm putting that caption out there, it'd be like, oh, why are you treating your mom like that? It's like, dude, we have I bust their balls all the time.

00:57:02
Speaker 2: Like the running joke that will still try and laugh about with my old man is I would literally tell them like if my dad is having like a brain moment something where you're laughing at your old man, yeah, I just beg dad man, I'll be honest with you. I hope I hope you go first if anything happens. And this is back before obviously everything took place, But you're just making those jokes because it's like what.

00:57:26
Speaker 1: Are you going to be?

00:57:27
Speaker 2: How are you going to do anything without Mom around? But I'll be okay if you go. I don't want you to go. I'll be okay if you go first, because at least mom, Yeah, we know how to operate. My dad has done an incredible job picking himself up, and you know that's a process as well for any anybody who's gone through something like that.

00:57:47
Speaker 1: Are similar. They understand this dynamic and my dad's.

00:57:51
Speaker 3: Relationship with I think it is so funny, is like I never joked with my dad, uh or well I did, but like I didn't do that type of joking with my dad. And when I was on the phone with him the other day, I just love how like you keep that same Will like sense of humor across the board, even with you like not really having any personal relationship with my dad. I'm on a phone call with him and the shirt contest is going on, and I called my dad and he had graciously offered to buy some of the shirts and was wondering which shirt he needed to buy for the PT six shirt to win.

00:58:31
Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, which you won, which he's one.

00:58:35
Speaker 3: And it's not like my dad bought a crazy amount, as the story will tell. But my dad when Will gets on the phone, he walks up mid combo and he sticks his head in the car and he's like.

00:58:46
Speaker 1: Mister young, you know, blah blah blah.

00:58:48
Speaker 3: He's just like being Will. And my dad is very proud to tell Will that he's buying four shirts, four PT six shirts. He's like so excited to tell Will that it Will goes four get thirty five those a rookie numbers. We got to bub those numbers. And my dude, wait.

00:59:08
Speaker 1: On my dad and he's like, oh, well, then I'm like, Dad, he is kidding.

00:59:14
Speaker 5: Bought all the tumblers down. His dad bought every single for the Dad's coffee tumbler. And we were talking to the Merchen team and they're like, yeah, we ran out of that by like thirty Did.

00:59:23
Speaker 1: You hear that story? No, he bought it as a Christmas gift for his office. That is amazing And your dad is awesome.

00:59:31
Speaker 2: And and even when I'm saying it, I almost now understand the dynamic that's happening because number one, your dad's so proud of everything that you're doing. And yeah, he also wants me to know how much it means to him, how much like it's it's like a he's he almost he wants to be we are on the personal level. But it's like a moment for him and I am just.

00:59:50
Speaker 3: Like and you're doing loss at the end of the day, and Boss in his mind is like this, and you know, he's like, man, like, what you're doing for my kid?

01:00:00
Speaker 1: And then you also are Will Compton's you.

01:00:03
Speaker 3: Have like these jokes that you'll throw in that will just catch my dad's so off guard.

01:00:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hilarious. It is fun, dude, it is fun. It's very funny. That made me laugh really hard. Nothing ever come across the first pitch video with my mom. Yes, you showed it to me the other day. Yeah, we're at the Cardinal game.

01:00:23
Speaker 2: It was my It was the second time I got to do a first pitch for the Cardinals, and so I was. My mom grew up. She loves baseball. She loves the k City Chief, she loves saying Louis Cardinals baseball. She loved it, like wed go and uh, we just randomly on a weekend, she'd be like, let's get in the car, we're gonna go up and scalp tickets. And she just worked the streets like she was very much like that, where you're going up. We don't have any tickets, We're gonna scalp tickets. I got to watch Dontrelle Willis with the Florida Marlins. I love, you know, fantasy baseball, playing triple play on computer, backyard baseball. I loved baseball growing up, and the Florida Marlins were in town playing the Cardinals in Dontrell will was throwing, and I love Dontroll Willis because he had this arm action, this sideal action where he just kind of had to swag. He had the juice, and so we got to watch him. We got to watch him play that day. But I knew my mom loved the Cardinals so much, so the second time I got to do a first pitch, I'm like, hey, Mom, I want you to do the first pitch, like we'll walk out to together, but I want you to throw the ball because I know she's in heaven getting to go and see all this stuff. They're taking us behind the scenes, showing us facilities and doing all the fun things. And we get out there and I know my mom's about to throw, and I kind of know her our emotion.

01:01:31
Speaker 1: You throw the ball like that, You throw a ball like the girl. You throw a ball like a girl. You throw the ball like a girl. So they took him over to get out, but I'm busting her balls.

01:01:42
Speaker 2: We're doing quotes from what's the movie with Tom Hanks, the women's baseball movie Their Own, We're doing quotes from a league of their Own. But she goes out there and I'm recording and she throws it, throws the pitch in the dirt, and I'm.

01:01:55
Speaker 1: Like, oh, trash, trash. She's like putting the camera in her face.

01:01:58
Speaker 2: But that's a video I always look back on just to see moment that.

01:02:03
Speaker 3: That is a funny clip worth Chef putting into the episode.

01:02:07
Speaker 1: Dude, all right.

01:02:08
Speaker 7: Going out for going out for our first pitch.

01:02:14
Speaker 2: I gotta bring it all the way out to the mound.

01:02:17
Speaker 1: This is the Mother's Gate, the Mother's Day gift.

01:02:19
Speaker 7: Everybody there you go, damn mom.

01:02:35
Speaker 1: Trash tread because it's Yeah, Will is just out of bashly Will in that moment. You were sure that dude. I've got a lot of.

01:02:46
Speaker 2: Cool messages over the last week from friends of the family, like friends of my mom. Oh good, just like writing about that message. I woke up to another one this morning from my boy, uh Foster Moreau, who was the tight end on the Raiders at the time, that saw that clip and he sent me a really nice message. But yeah, man, I number one, I appreciate you guys. Is you guys sitting here with the boy as I talked through something.

01:03:09
Speaker 5: Yah, did one call out just to say people were asking the comments if it was like a templated book she wrote, or if it was like an empty notebook that she filled because a lot of people were curious.

01:03:20
Speaker 1: There's like books that can happen nowadays.

01:03:22
Speaker 2: So yeah, it was a templated where there's questions from her past growing up. Thinks her parents taught her old friends that she spoke about, like she's answering questions in like a templated book.

01:03:34
Speaker 1: Then it gets to my birth.

01:03:36
Speaker 2: You know what she envisioned for me when I was young, And it seems like she stopped writing in it when I was a senior in college because there's no mention of like, you know, the NFL or anything like that. She talks about how proud she is of getting to play college football and playing in Nebraska.

01:03:51
Speaker 1: But it's a very much like a templated thing. Part of me.

01:03:53
Speaker 2: I took so long to even look at the book or even think about it. I never opened it to where I'm like, did she write is just like a journal, to where she wrote to me in it, you know what I mean to her. I had no clue what I was about to open. Yeah, this new ru was having such a hard time, and I'm like, man, I've been talking about doing this, it seems like the moment to do it. Uh, but yeah, it was a templated book because there's a lot of them now that are kind of sold out there, which I I love that, and I like tell myself, I need to do that for my kids because I think it's a really cool thing. Oh buddy from away past episode putting us on game with a journal.

01:04:27
Speaker 1: Remember Spotify and the email account too.

01:04:30
Speaker 3: That's been a dad hack that's come up plenty of times of create a Gmail account or whatever email service you want to use and just email it every single day and then once the kid is old enough, give them a password and the email address and they can get through and read through that.

01:04:46
Speaker 1: Yeah.

01:04:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, And dude, honestly, it's a I feel like, I don't know this to be a fact, but I feel like it. This was this was a situation that really helped incubate this show, you know what I mean, Like from as from a a position of it impacted me in such a way, especially with Charli being pregnant and having rue and articulating what I wanted to be as a father and gravitating towards all the dad content and the world out there because I just love it. I love getting whatever new ideas are out there. When people write in with questions and I might not have the answer, but I like see myself in those questions because I would gravitate to a lot of dad content that goes on, yeah, towards being in the podcast game and everything else. It's like, man, this would be this would be really cool. Like essentially, you're making a show speaking to your old self that you know, my mom made such an impact on me that it has impacted me in my own journey as a dad, which having the show has been has meant the world. Like whenever you guys reach out, whenever you guys do comment about this stuff as awkward as I feel crying or when my mom's stuff comes up in my brain, I'm like, man, does this stuff come up too much?

01:05:50
Speaker 1: Am I crying too much about this? People? You don't know how much joy.

01:05:56
Speaker 2: And how much value you guys do bring to me when I see that it does help impact or help somebody that has missed their dad for thirteen years. Beck was It was nice seeing that and understanding that we all do. We all go through this shit together. Yeah, and you're kind of one listen or one conversation or one comment or right up away from connecting to something that feels like yeah, I should see it this way, or yeah, I am feeling that anger and you just feel like you're not alone, you know what I mean?

01:06:26
Speaker 3: Yes, And it's great to be able to smell the flowers from a standpoint of being able to see the community that has been built from this. We talked earlier about the Jared Ladds Twitter group before the Dad's Twitter community that he started and a lot of dad up to one hundred and ninety eight members now, which that's let's go, that's sick. But in that group, like these dads are just like posting pictures of like them hanging out with their kids.

01:07:01
Speaker 1: Like it's the most dad coded group ever. Like we've got our own Facebook now, it's like a Facebook for these dads and be like I took my.

01:07:12
Speaker 3: Kid fishing, we went to this pizza spot like blah blah blah. But like the just to be like entered into that world of being surrounded by other people that are like, man, family is so important and being a good dad is so important, and having that constant reminder, yeah, being a part of this show like kind of puts the blinders on because it is my job to like do the show and to interact with that community. But it is also a nice refresher sometimes of like, man, I'm so lucky to be a part of this community and see all this positive I have the most positive timeline on the internet quote graphic, like I really do. It's crazy, it is. It's awesome. So oh and shout out to you for ideating this show. But shout out to the community.

01:08:04
Speaker 2: The shout out to the community. Askment because it does. It's like you almost it helps you if you just think of the brand or the community and you factor it into one singular person. It feels like you almost have like an accountabil a buddy. Yeah, because there's a lot of times where if I'm getting frustrated or I'm thinking, because it's obviously it's it's an ongoing cycle all the time, I'm almost like thinking about stuff we've said on the show, or thinking of a write end that somebody had, you know what I mean to where you know.

01:08:34
Speaker 1: You're dealing with it in real time.

01:08:36
Speaker 2: Of you know what the Willie one shelf like anytime Charles talking about hanging up something now or doing something like that now infiltrates my brain to where if there's no if there's no none of that, who knows whatever cycle it would have created if like I don't want to do this, I'm being.

01:08:52
Speaker 3: So serious when you say that, But prepping for this show, we used to have that or not used to have we still have it. The the trenches segment that we'll do sometimes, and the trenches segment that I would have sometimes.

01:09:06
Speaker 1: Is solo Dad weekend.

01:09:09
Speaker 3: That was like something that I was like, man, I'm going I'm really going through the shit, and not to make light of anything that's been submitted to us.

01:09:16
Speaker 1: But like now in my head, I have these.

01:09:20
Speaker 3: Ride ends of oh my dog died, I got in a huge car accident, almost died, had to get surgery, blah blah blah. At least I get to hug my kiddos though, and I'm like, man, what am I doing writing down the trenches.

01:09:32
Speaker 1: I had to have a solo Oh whoe is me? It was just me and my daughter this weekend? Fuck, Like it really did shift my perspective so much of like, bro, I'm so freaking lucky, It's unreal, and like, yeah, I could get emotional if I went further, but that that's it. I'm very low. I need this show. Well I do have some building there, so I see it. That counts. We did have a ride in.

01:10:02
Speaker 3: If we want to go into some quick dad comments and then maybe we hit to crack a cold one.

01:10:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do it. Mark, So what is this? What is this? Preface as? Is this and this I see email?

01:10:16
Speaker 3: Uh yes, but it was preface as like general comments.

01:10:20
Speaker 1: Okay, general comments.

01:10:21
Speaker 3: So this one is fun because although it is email, it's quick. Caitlin's husband wrote into the show last week and I forget his name, his first name, but he.

01:10:36
Speaker 1: Like he casually Zach. He casually was like, you.

01:10:40
Speaker 3: Know, there's this great this great quote from my old ball coach back in the day, Pete Carroll and Will and I like laughed very hard at that because they're like, oh yeah his old ball copy.

01:10:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, just nonchalantly Pete Carrol, just a little old Peete Carroll and so, uh yeah, man, one of my old mentors of mine, of Vince Lombardi, my old fish you don't know who he is, my old fishing buddy, Nicholas Sabin, Whatst. Virginia guy back in the day he goes by Nick. Yeah, he goes by Nick. He's got this great quote you just spoke at the White House. But uh, his wife rodin and this is what she had to say.

01:11:21
Speaker 3: Her name is Caitlin. I hope I'm pronouncing this correctly.

01:11:24
Speaker 4: A bear.

01:11:26
Speaker 3: Or keeber mt six here, mom of three, married to the hottest USC offensive lineman to ever set foot in the coliseum two thousand and six to twenty ten.

01:11:39
Speaker 1: Did he play in the in the Rosewell game? That means he would have played in the rossee Oh six, right, that's that was fo It was four years old because he's Reggie bok he one was Yeah, Zach.

01:11:57
Speaker 3: Zach Abert number seventy four and no hot offensive lineman is not an oxymoron.

01:12:03
Speaker 1: Single ladies.

01:12:04
Speaker 3: Courtney Strong in parenthese she actually wrote that that's not Caitlin's obviously an empty sicco Uh find yourself an offensive lineman. They get the job done, best husband and best dad. Two comments empty fit. I'm a nurse, shout out Jillybean, and I made it a priority to wake up at five am before uh work four times a week to get my workout in in the garage squat rack dialed in waits ready to go, and let me tell you, empty sixers. It's a game changer for my mental health, my physical health, and hey, if I'm being honest, it's kind of an empty shockwave for the hubs. Works both ways. Crying laughing face, hashtag.

01:12:50
Speaker 1: Put a bow on ito, Uh siko, that's a good looking for right. I want to be as that flow? Still going on with that? Did he play with Clay? Yeah?

01:13:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, God, you gotta ask Clay about Zach. He'll be like, Oh, the hotty number seventy four and what's her name? Kayln Kaylin, and god, she's I'm sitting here listening. It's like the pet Fits world. It's not even done.

01:13:20
Speaker 1: Oh we're still gone. We're still no, but continue your thought. No we finished. It's seeping with all these I know what you mean.

01:13:28
Speaker 3: Other comment for the girl dads out there, we have two girls and got our boy two years ago. Our family is complete and so full of love and joy. Watching our girls love their brother is incredible. I'm gonna share some advice, and someone told us when we decided to roll the dice for one more, don't make eye contact when you're trying to make that boy, I'm going to.

01:13:50
Speaker 1: Read that again. I'm going to read that again because that that this is this is my game, this is raw game. This is from her.

01:14:04
Speaker 3: Don't make eye contact when you're trying to make that boy. That's all I gotta say. It's evidence based, this is backed by science. Essentially. Love what you guys are doing.

01:14:16
Speaker 1: Keep it up. MT six out that. Put that in a frame. Put this one in a frame. That's a great one.

01:14:22
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and as good as he gets right there, I'm gonna put it on the shelf.

01:14:25
Speaker 1: You literally am.

01:14:27
Speaker 2: Don't hey, you want game on how to make a boy? Don't make eye contact? I wonder if that came from her or came from him.

01:14:39
Speaker 1: Like, think if it came from her and they're about to hit the shockwave and she's looking at him and she's like, don't make eye contact with me, trust me. And the fourteenth would be a great date to test that theory out. I mean, you get a little bit out.

01:14:55
Speaker 2: You're hitting a different we're hitting a different No, no, you're in a different coaster.

01:14:59
Speaker 1: Yoh sure, but who's to say, you know, I don't just go to six lags and go, oh, I'm only gonna do that one. I'm only gonna do the mister Freeze.

01:15:09
Speaker 3: Oh, We're gonna do Mittal Freeze like five times, guys. That's the only one. No, we're gonna work our way over to the Titan. We're gonna do Batman a little bit, and you know we're gonna hit shock Wave.

01:15:18
Speaker 1: But just know when we hit that Batman, don't look me in the e Don't fucking look at me. Don't you fucking look at me. You look away right now. That's that's amazing. Shout out Kaitlyn. Shout out Kaitlyn.

01:15:30
Speaker 4: A quick quick clarification the national champion champ. That game was five oh six, so we're both we're all kind of right on that.

01:15:38
Speaker 3: Okay, thank you for the clarity. Should update from Chef.

01:15:43
Speaker 2: I got a couple here on Spotify Jeff four days ago, new listener, dead of two beautiful girls four months and twenty seven months. That's two brother, can't believe I'm just not discovering you guys. Better late than never, Stoked to be a t PT sixer. Let's go, Jeff. Thank you for joining the brand. Thank you for joining this army of bt sikos.

01:16:07
Speaker 3: Jeff Better late than never better, Nate than lever, Jeff, We're glad to have you. Yeah, we're glad to have you. Nick Dido on Instagram. Boy, his mom is fighting for her life at night with the three week old, but tomorrow morning starts the war, my war at home. The toddler is ready for potty training, and mornings are dad's responsibility.

01:16:28
Speaker 1: Good.

01:16:29
Speaker 3: We have to start this on the right foot. Tonight I moved the kid potty in the right position, covered the couches and blankets, and studied the material.

01:16:38
Speaker 1: I think we're ready. As a US Navy sailor. Thank you for your service.

01:16:43
Speaker 3: Thank you sir, for fourteen years now we have sailors around the world kicking ass right now so that I can be on leave to take care of my family. Thank you for their service. So is potty training important?

01:16:57
Speaker 1: Yes? But will it break me?

01:16:59
Speaker 6: No?

01:17:00
Speaker 1: God bless you more. Good ship on it? Ship but yeah. The new comment this week hashtag ship on it. Good ship keep going. They'll just stop with bt make our life hell.

01:17:20
Speaker 3: But this is how we learn. The obstacle is the way. Put a bow on it, put a blindfold on it. Yeah, if you're trying to have.

01:17:28
Speaker 1: A boy yeah, yeah, don't look him in the eye. I do have a quick new dad one. I only have one.

01:17:32
Speaker 2: I still got, I still got another one, still got another one. From William Dousa on Spotify. The fella's laying here watching the podcast with my three week old baby girl in my chest, talking about pet fit. There is such unaccountability up for pet Fit. It's staring us in the face. Shirt it is we can touch off in the face. Something we can do is sign up for then here we go. Oh now now we got we got an idea. Man with William, I signed up for a half marathon in May. So this is a half marathons that's a slow burn and it's helped me get out and work out and go on runs. Since I signed up, I really felt better with my health and it helps that you have something to work towards. Once that event is over, the routine is set. Thank you. My mind has never gone Listen, this is Dan Gable quote. My mind has never gone very far from what I wanted to accomplish.

01:18:35
Speaker 1: He threw a Dan Gable. Can I see that? Yeah? Absolutely, well this one will go somewhere as well. Okay, we'll just start hanging up comments. We're just gonna start hanging up comments. That's a new thing. Pek fit has got to be a reality it it is. Did you see the call out that I got? I don't so no, remind me now, remind me, tell me about it.

01:19:03
Speaker 3: Somebody wants to race me to a sub two hundred weight. He's at two thirty and he's six foot I'm at two twenty five or far two point fifteen and I'm five foot eight.

01:19:20
Speaker 1: So I feel like I one hundred have the leg up on him right Possibly, who knows.

01:19:27
Speaker 3: Possibly it could be a genetic freak, isn't it kind of it's kind of harder for the leakier guys to drop or is it harder for shorter guys to drop weight?

01:19:36
Speaker 1: It just depends. Depends. But he wants to race me to do sub two hundred for diapers, depends on That's a that's a good challenge. That's a good challenge.

01:19:45
Speaker 2: But as far as pt fit goes, we think about routine and structure. Because I've been hitting my Zone two this week, but that's about it. I have a sore. Next is outfitting the weight room at the end of this month.

01:19:54
Speaker 1: Two.

01:19:55
Speaker 2: Zone two is staying within a heart rate of zone two heart rates, so mine is like one twenty five. I have to one thirty five. I won twenty five to one for I stay in that zone. The structure right now is getting one hundred and fifty minutes a week, so five thirty minute sessions and that's that's light work to what I need to be at. Okay, But pt fit there's an opportunity for routine and structure for this community to where you might have that challenge.

01:20:21
Speaker 1: But what is the overall framework that we can give ourselves? Yeah, how will this be implemented into my life?

01:20:30
Speaker 2: What I think in my head is I think of you know, Form Energy. They're they're a partner of ours in the Busting with the Boys universe. Yes, first Form or Andy Furcella had a framework called seventy five Hard, which is like more of an extreme like it's it's an awesome framework in formula and everything else, but it's almost like, how can you do an iteration to where this pt fit is not only a movement but an accountability thing for dads, like for us in our community. Yes, whether it's you know, smaller things, whether it's like you know, hitting strength workouts, x amount of times a week zone to her cardio x amount of times a week. Steps getting your steps, and people are big on getting their steps, and who knows. I'm opening this up, but I do think there's something there because bro, I know for me personally, I've got to get right. I've got to get like on it like Charo Charo crushes it. She got her You know how I said, I did my DEXA and I'm like twenty seven percent body fat. Yeah, six hundred grams of visceral fat. She does the same thing as I do. Her stuff came back after essentially seven months, She's down like four percent body fat. Her viscral fat is way down. Like she like I have six hundred grams, she's got like one hundred or eighty five.

01:21:45
Speaker 1: Maybe I've read she's fresh off Kiddo number two.

01:21:48
Speaker 2: She's grinding Shit's being a great partner for me right now on like because she knows I've been a little disappointed in myself about all of that stuff. Like I sit there, I use jokes, I do all these things for my insecurities and everything else. But she's been a great partner on like how can we structure stuff because it's essentially it's like waking my ass up.

01:22:06
Speaker 1: Earlier than you know.

01:22:07
Speaker 2: We already wake up at like six thirty am, seven o'clock. Get the kids going, she does the kiddo's upstairs. I'm the dad who you know, well, whoever gets out the feed while first. But I'm making breakfast and lunch for Rue and getting breakfast going for Scottie.

01:22:20
Speaker 1: Like we have our roles to where our susans. We crush it together.

01:22:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's like, man, how can I own the morning because I know it's just me going to bed earlier, and I know it's just me waking up earlier and getting the work in.

01:22:32
Speaker 1: Because she even brought up I feel like you need to be.

01:22:35
Speaker 2: Around an accountability buddy or a group or something, because you don't have that now that you're not done playing football. And clearly I've fallen off the I've fallen off the bike when it comes to my own self care with me being the only individual doing it or taking control of what my structure is going to look like. She's like, I think it'd be good if you got around other people, whether it's me and you. Now that we have our little room set up in the house, like if we do stuff in the morning together.

01:22:59
Speaker 1: She's been all the time.

01:23:01
Speaker 3: Yes, A running group, a online group.

01:23:05
Speaker 1: Yeah.

01:23:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, She's like, I think you just need the team aspect, and my brain just goes to it's like pt fit.

01:23:12
Speaker 3: Yes, dude, I think we have a huge opportunity. And also a side note, a very funny moment with Will being at your house. I was asking you about some financial advice. It then turned into you talking about your health and stuff, and you were almost like trying to explain like your health situation and how you're wanting to get back on track. And it wasn't like you were defending yourself to me, But in that moment I wanted to be like, Will, do you do you see who you're talking to? Like you got enough, Like, hey, don't worry you're preaching to the choir, buddy, right, I'm right there with you, I know, but but not to soften the fact that you are very passionate about this, and I equally saying, can I very quickly just because you like hit so many buzzwords, talking about first form, talking about seventy five hard all that stuff. I have a really great email from Emmett Rodriguez that touches on all that stuff I read no shit, yeah yeah, rip it. So Emmett says, what's going on? Boy, has been a long time listener. And now once you start by saying thank you, the last the cries, the advice you have shared have given me a great perspective and better feeling going into my first baby. Boy, let's go, Immitt. I want to talk about pt fit. I was once three hundred and fifteen pounds at about the age of eighteen. Around that period in time, I began having a rhythmias in my heart. My heart would spike all over the place. Despite being an athlete in middle school in high school, I.

01:24:57
Speaker 1: Was severely out of shape.

01:25:00
Speaker 3: During the time, I was hospitalized for a week and had to have two ablations and coded during the second one. Coding is very serious for anybody outside of the medical realm. That's when the little thing beside the hospital's bed starts going deep and everybody in the floor runs in. That's a coding is a big deal. Thankfully, I had a great cardiologist and nursing staff that shocked me back to life. While waking up, I would come in and out of sleep and listen to my parents talk about me and how they didn't want to lose me. This was the first time I saw my dad cry. Being the oldest, I quickly understood how they could have easily buried their child that week. The amount of pain and guilt I had created for them, I knew I had to change. Once medically cleared, I began my fitness journey, dropping to about two point fifty over a year three fifteen to two point fifty in a year. Then I found first form, became a legioneer while applying for physical therapy school and committed to seventy five hard Through that I got down to one eighty five and probably one eighty five from three fifteen to one eighty five, and probably the healthiest I have ever been. He's now twenty nine years old and he exercised and exercise is his career now. As a physical therapist, I prescribe exercise, so I have to look the part, but I had to let myself go a bit currently two twenty, but now that I'm expecting my first son, I have recently been moved by living to see him grow and being able to play and run with him, show him how badass his dad is, and inspire him to always prioritize health. He doesn't know it just yet, but he has already made my life so much better. And I'm so grateful that I get to be his dad. Best from Fort Worth, Texas. I'm telling you, we just there's something in the water.

01:26:58
Speaker 1: He also really juices me up. Man, keep providing these pictures.

01:27:03
Speaker 2: That's for Sella right there on the right, the guy he's due.

01:27:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, they're awesome. They are awesome people. Missouri boys. Really yeah.

01:27:12
Speaker 2: When we when we went out to do and Isa Bush, yeah HQ, that's we went to their place. Like I was on Andy Forcell's MFCO podcast, like back in twenty fifteen, where I'm talking about like Redskins football lead like all this stuff. Like I'm a massive first form fan love the Forcella brothers. Shout out sal and Andy. Okay, that's they're awesome dudes, man, they are awesome dudes. And that culture is is incredible. It's an A plus like people that finding go on to and buy into it. It's it's all time will plus to compliment them. If there's any first form people listening. When Will H went and.

01:27:52
Speaker 3: Visited their office, you said something to the effect that it was like touring a football program like and you'll do the spring tours, and that it was the best run football program that you have come across as far as team buy in and mentality within the door, their.

01:28:09
Speaker 2: Culture, operation, people, the way the way they do anything is the way they do everything.

01:28:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, core values.

01:28:18
Speaker 2: It's it was fun to go to because you almost get inspired with our own business culture and everything else because the way they do everything is very it's very tight. But also everybody is bought in because they do personal development stuff with their company.

01:28:34
Speaker 1: It's clean, it's beautiful.

01:28:35
Speaker 2: It does seem like a like someone sunk money into a perennial D one university. Yeah, it's as close to a football facility in college Division one as you would get, in my opinion, to any company culture that's not like in football.

01:28:50
Speaker 1: You know what I mean. They're supplements, their fitness, they're all these other things. But it is. It's incredible, man, truly, it's incredible.

01:28:57
Speaker 3: That's so sick, dude, And I love how much it got you from coming back. You talked to individually everyone in the office, and I got to hear you each time telling.

01:29:07
Speaker 1: A different uh fact. But the word is. In fact, it was like a different attribute about their company that you'd forgotten. A detail, Yeah, a different detail that you'd forgotten, and you'd be like, oh, bro, they don't even they don't even have cleaning. They don't have a cleaning crew in the office. They pick it up, they pick it up. You don't pick it up. They dock your pay. Imagine he imagine if I did that around here? What do you think what happened?

01:29:40
Speaker 3: I'm sitting there with like eight like cups on my desk. I'm like, yeah, I mean, good call out last. This is the last new dat comment. I'll just what else do we have?

01:29:50
Speaker 1: Because I know we've been we've been rocking. Yes we can, we can hit this because.

01:29:54
Speaker 2: There's there's six over here I haven't read. Sometimes you just gotta think we're rolling.

01:29:58
Speaker 1: You just gotta have an instinct to be like, okay, we don't crack a cold one. Let's crack a cold one. Pt.

01:30:06
Speaker 3: Sichos et Sicicos st Sichos.

01:30:10
Speaker 2: And goon Berets, goon Bereys and the goon Bereys.

01:30:14
Speaker 3: I feel like they we haven't been mentioning them enough. But somebody we have been mentioning enough because we can't stop talking about them. Is Lollipop and will I.

01:31:03
Speaker 3: I messed with Grape heavy as well, and that was from the blind taste. That's funny enough. I walked away with the Classic Grape and the cherry. I was messing with the cherry heavy. And I've never messed with any cherry flavor. If I'm picking flavors, cherries never at the top.

01:31:21
Speaker 1: With Ollipop.

01:31:22
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was maybe number one. I forget my rankings. However, Ollipop, it's one of our favorites we talk about all the time.

01:33:41
Speaker 1: Charlo takes roof everywhere. Why she's taking you? But yeah, I know, well she did off and I was like I cannot keep it. You're gonna take rude. Not my first born, but getting a rock with Scotty.

01:33:54
Speaker 2: Scotti's again sixteen months, and I feel like the fifteen sixteenth month parties were person really starts coming to life when you're if you're a parent, you got a younger one, like with Scarlett. I know I've told you this, but it's like I remember back to Rue, around sixteen months is when their personality and everything comes to life because they can walk, they can do all the things to where they know what they're trying to do, and they're starting to look at you and try and listen and everything else.

01:34:16
Speaker 1: Yep. So it was kind of.

01:34:18
Speaker 2: My first weekend or a few days with Scotty where it's just me and her, like taking her around town, going eat with the boys, getting her around different people because on Friday, Clump and Jerry came to the house too, and them just just interacting and socializing her with my buddies, with my friends, and it was just a lot of fun, like being on a routine, playing with her again, taken her around town. It was just a lot of fun to connect with Scotti where it's just me and her and not the whole tribe of the entire family, where it's me, Mom, rue Scottie, like it's just me and her, connecting, me and her doing everything, getting to know her, her waking up from her nap and be like daddad dad, dad her in her mind like that's the only one he does, the only one here banging on the crib dad. Yeah, I don't think I talked to her. I'll be up in three minute, sweetheart. And uh, but it was just fun, man. I had a good time with Scotty. So that's what my kracker cole.

01:35:08
Speaker 3: One goes to congratulations on that Kracker cole and I got to see it personally, and I'm glad I did because you were operating. I just want to shout out this one moment when you had both oven mits on and you were making Scottie's pre nap launch and uh, the chicken nuggies were not ready yet in the oven and she was letting you know from the high chair da with the hands going and you had both oven mits on.

01:35:35
Speaker 1: You go, honey, hey, I know, I hear you listen, but they're not ready. They need three more minutes.

01:35:42
Speaker 3: And her kind of makeup face like ah, shit, and y'all like having that little communication with each other. Yeah, it was incredible to see. She's incredible, true too. She put down the fruit.

01:35:55
Speaker 2: The point I keep opening up these little the little oranges. What are they called?

01:35:58
Speaker 1: Cuties? Tanger danjerine cuties them? I ate sharing? You want one of these? She's running through them right now. Scarlett sucked that entire one, you know, her mouth.

01:36:08
Speaker 3: I had to fish it out of there, and I got some notes from Mom. That's the number one way to make them choke. You did not put your finger in there and pull it out? Did you actually do that? I was like, babe, my fish looked it. I went in there. I didn't push you more in. I got in there, scooped it out.

01:36:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, there wasn't a problem. How else am I supposed to get it?

01:36:29
Speaker 4: Go?

01:36:31
Speaker 1: Suck it out? I mean, what are we doing?

01:36:34
Speaker 3: My crack a cold one was couple's date night, and it would have been playing at your house. But I was guessing that might have been yours, so I wanted to differentiate I equally that would have been my crack a cold one. Okay, we had a date night, a couple's date night with a babysitter.

01:36:53
Speaker 1: We're talking full fledged, the real deal thing.

01:36:56
Speaker 3: Jill and I got to go to Popstroke in Antioch, and uh, if you've never been to Popstroke, it's a nice little puppett kind of like adult putt putt thing where you know, adult bevies are flowing. They got the waiters running out to the course like mid putt putt. It was so much fun. Dude, really got to turn off dad brain. Got to celebrate the couple that we were with Brian and Hillary. She is very pregnant, due like towards the end of May, so we're getting to like celebrate that.

01:37:29
Speaker 1: Just fine. Getting to be out there, dude, and get your hair down.

01:37:33
Speaker 3: Let your hair down, dude. Jill's coming up to me. She's she's got some little drinking poos in her. She's coming up to me and she's putting her arm around me and looking up at me and doing the I'm like, come on, man, hey, w'd that ben man with that shit been trying to put a bow on it? Oh yeah, dude, winking on my boy. Brian giving Jill a kiss.

01:37:54
Speaker 2: Hey, I'm gonna take this one home, and nice I went over.

01:38:00
Speaker 1: There and taking her in nice pot, babe, nice put Yeah, but yeah, dude, it was, it was huge, It was. It was a great night.

01:38:08
Speaker 3: And shout out Julia or babysitter again, I am not doxing her because you're not taking her from me.

01:38:13
Speaker 1: That's our babysitter. And you do nothing but.

01:38:18
Speaker 2: Encourage the dad's prioritizing a date night. Yeah, you talk about it a lot. That's put it on the calendar.

01:38:24
Speaker 3: Execute, execute, execute execute. That's part of my lesson the week. But I hear that you have a lesson of the week as well. I have an awesome one and we're coming up on an hour. So do we want to jump into some voicemails?

01:38:37
Speaker 1: Yes.

01:38:40
Speaker 3: First one is I guess I'll eat the pizza. This comes from Jared Ladd. Jared lad Come on, Jared, Hey.

01:39:43
Speaker 8: No, I don't know what to do, but UH appreciate all before you guys give us for dads. But again, I just don't know what we'll do. I guess I'll just sit here any people by myself. Oh it is what it is voice.

01:40:04
Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. We go through a lot of storytelling.

01:40:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, on this pod, people have write ends where it's it makes you reflect and think, why do I sweat the small things when you hear stories like this? And to me, this is another example of perspective. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, to where it's like why, I don't know.

01:40:28
Speaker 1: You're Marri of that group on Twitter that I was talking about where everybody's sending them photos in of hanging out with their kids. Who's the one that's sending the most photos with their kids in there? It's Jared lit Jared let That's like the only thing he likes to do in this world.

01:40:44
Speaker 2: Like I cry about my mom all the time. And when Jared Ladson's in a voicemail, yeah, of my wife took the kids at six Flags. When I got us in the house, a quiet house and have a whole piece of to myself, it makes me think, why am I?

01:41:03
Speaker 1: Why do I even get caught up?

01:41:04
Speaker 2: Hey, I understand what I went through with my mother when I have a pet sixer out there right now with a house to himself. Yeah, and nothing but time, nothing but boredom in pizza and cheese and sports and.

01:41:19
Speaker 1: Video game March madness.

01:41:21
Speaker 3: It's start the conference tournaments were starting up. Oh my god, and dude, silver Lining. I just want you to know I get how you could feel like that. Jared doesn't want you to feel like that for a second, like he understands how you could feel that way.

01:41:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, Jerry, we appreciate you calling in, man, Thank you, dude.

01:41:46
Speaker 2: You guys talk about our vulnerability all the time, Like to call in and be that vulnerable with us about what you're going through. Papa Team six for the dads. We're all thinking about you, our heart is with you, we're all praying for you.

01:41:59
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, man, I almost don't have words that's all right. Hey, just before this gets to sloppy, I'm just gonna move into our second voice, okay, if that's all right. Yeah. Yeah. This one's titled Crying Again. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. This one's titled we made It. What's up? Boys? Andy here down in Florida just bought my family a lake house.

01:42:27
Speaker 4: Yeah you did.

01:42:30
Speaker 1: That's all I had to say. Yeah you did, brother, Let it. Let's go. Let's go do that one right there.

01:42:43
Speaker 2: You just go out stand and you look at the lake, and I got this house for the fam, Like that is a goal that he should be so damn proud of himself.

01:42:52
Speaker 3: And brother, Brother, it's a boat, a CD, a pon tune, whatever it is that very first time that you're pulling pulling out into the water, get that dal get that bumping on the boat, dude, and also grab.

01:43:10
Speaker 2: The most sentimental song that you have and just stop the boat somewhere out in the middle and just stop it. Have some piece and quiet play the most sentimental song you can, and just maybe a tear rolls down your face because you should be so damn proud of yourself for getting to a point where I bought my family a fucking lake House and fucking belt that song too, like all the sacrifice, the responsibility, everything, Yes, feel so worth it when you're gonna have that moment. Grinder grinder, very quick note, Jill and I did like our own little valves like separate of the wedding ceremony before, and that was like the dress reveal too, and hey, you know your boy so one.

01:43:53
Speaker 1: I cry and I'm crying. I'm getting through it.

01:43:56
Speaker 3: Number four on that list, Jill, Jill Young, I promise to you that I will purchase waterfront property and we will sit on that front porch and we will be wrinkly and old and we'll be holding hands and rocking chairs.

01:44:13
Speaker 1: Vowed it. I love that. God, o God.

01:44:19
Speaker 2: And when you guys are sitting on that front porch and looking out during the when the sunset Golden hour, halfway sitting there, you see all the different shades of orange and purple and red and pink reflecting on the water.

01:44:37
Speaker 1: Just suddenly, I can't play it too long.

01:44:54
Speaker 3: Can't play it too long, and we may we may even have to supplement it with another song and just say that we are playing scroll up.

01:44:59
Speaker 1: But here is it a nice little yeah? Uh? You know we love the copy right in there in a clip in an edit. Hey, hey, I don't think so.

01:45:09
Speaker 2: But what it would have would have would have? What if I did it? What if it comes from my account?

01:45:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't do that. Wait really quick, hold on, I'm sorry. You know, we gotta compete. Yeah, we gotta get we gotta get right.

01:45:29
Speaker 3: I just wanted to say, uh, that sunset sounded really beautiful. It sounded like a spring sunset, maybe even a sunset on like March fourteenth.

01:45:40
Speaker 1: Per se.

01:45:43
Speaker 3: Uh, I feel good on voicemails? How does everyone else feel feel great? Will Compton? You said you had a lesson of the week, and I parlay to you, I will skip my lesson of the week and do it next week. And instead I just read a quick little dan Gable quote and then you pop into your lesson of the week.

01:46:04
Speaker 1: I don't think any PT sixers have a problem with getting fed a Dan Gable quote, especially big ten tournament, the conference.

01:46:11
Speaker 2: Sermon, it's just finishing wrestling. We're now looking at the NCAA's coming up. Okay, I think dan Gable is necessary. Yeah for this time.

01:46:19
Speaker 1: Matt Madness, mart March Madness, could I twist your Matt's arms. Tell me if I'm wrong here, twist your arms. You each do have a new dad? Shout out?

01:46:28
Speaker 5: That are some version of surprises that are very fast, very fast. Do you each have a new dad that chose to write in for the show and congratulate So if you, if you don't mind.

01:46:36
Speaker 1: I would love the shout out.

01:46:37
Speaker 2: Trevor Smith on X Trevor Smith, Hey Fellas. He sent just Hey Fellas at twelve ten pm in the DMS. Then it's twelve twelve another message comes in. Wanted to give a shout out to one of my best friends and new dad, Alec and his wife Tory, on the birth of their baby girl, Scottie. No doubt he's going to be a great dad and he's been a siko since the jump. Also, just wanted to send him some thoughts and prayers. He's got a lot going on with having he's got a lot going on with having BofA mind, Goblins and room forty all at once.

01:47:13
Speaker 1: No, No, and he's ugly as hell. Oh love your brother, congrats. Wait what is BofA? What's shine? Goblin Chef? Tellam you're the Semen team. Say what's room fortydelln What is that? What's both of me? What's a BofA both of these nuts? Who wrote that? Who the fuck wrote that? Room? Throw these nuts on you in your mouth? Yeah? Who the fuck wrote that?

01:47:50
Speaker 3: Trevor smith Man, Oh my gosh, dude, I was actually worried about it.

01:47:54
Speaker 1: I was like, he has three illnesses at once. Are the other ones? Are DC night strokes as well? I mean mine goblins. I think that's like it could be like a movie. Sounds like it. It sounds like a movie. It sounds mind goblin these balls. Oh, we joke. We're joking. We're joking. Hey, do you remember when I said that I had a no dad thing to read and you said, hey, you know, I get it, but we gotta you know, we gotta move on. And then I threw it. Yeah, I don't know where it went. Yeah, I'm so sorry you to read it or give you the no you yes.

01:48:32
Speaker 5: Reading the Lane from Spotify Lane longtime listener, first time commenter. The wife and I found out a few weeks ago we're expecting our second kid. March fourteenth. We're going to announce to the family. Great day to announce my two brothers. Tyler and Jordan claimed to be sickos. If they are truly sickos, they'll see my comment or hear it on the show and get to know first love the show and use a lot of the hacks with my two year old son. Pease don't tell mom or my wife. I told the PT six world before the family.

01:49:01
Speaker 1: I love that.

01:49:02
Speaker 2: If they're real sickos, they would obviously hear that, because you could be tuning in and in the moment your comment doesn't seem like it's getting read.

01:49:08
Speaker 1: Because we moved on. The real sickos stay tuned in no matter what. Yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like looking.

01:49:16
Speaker 3: They're there, tell the very very end when we say, hey the doe hushtag put a ball on it.

01:49:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, yea yeah, hashtag medium rare, honey. And I just realized, I say, you know what I'm saying a lot.

01:49:29
Speaker 1: Listen, buddy, I hear you. It's okay, yeah, buddy, okay, listen, hey listen.

01:49:37
Speaker 3: Also, I found the lame one mid Red I do say sorry about that, Deke, so sorry about that, but well.

01:49:44
Speaker 1: Dined, well done on the read.

01:49:46
Speaker 3: Ummm listen, let's oh Dan Gable quote then lets yeah, yeah, Yeahdan Gable quotes. This one comes from Dan Gable on The Joe Rogan Experience, episode number one, six hundred and twenty seven, and it goes as fallows, you know I was crazy. I was crazy. I was definitely crazy, and I used to run to work sometimes. It was a couple miles away, Dan Gable. That Gable is a sick Oh, he's a sicko. He was sick in the head. He's admitting it.

01:50:24
Speaker 1: He's crazy, probably a little crazy. You know what. I'm gonna run to work today. Why not. It's a couple of miles away. That's fine. I love Dan Gable, love them.

01:50:35
Speaker 2: This one comes from Derek Thompson on X It is at dk thomp th h o MP. I booked marked this one because when it came across my time home, I'm like, this is damn good man and it's a He captioned it a new newsletter in all caps, three reasons to be a parent.

01:50:55
Speaker 1: I opened it up. It's got a short, little short, a little something something.

01:51:00
Speaker 2: Okay, the baby you bring home from the hospital is not the baby you rock to sleep at two weeks, and the baby at three months is a complete stranger to both in a Jesus Christ in a we might have to edit this up in a phenomenological sense. That sounds great, phenomonological phenomenological sense.

01:51:25
Speaker 1: Okay, let's start that over.

01:51:28
Speaker 2: The baby you bring home from the hospital is not the baby you rock to sleep at two weeks, and the baby at three months is a complete stranger to both. In a phenomenological sense, parenting a newborn is not at all like parenting a singular newborn, but rather like parenting hundreds of babies, each one replacing the previous week's child, yet retaining her basic facial structure. And this is a quote parenthood abruptly catapults us into a permanent relationship with a stranger. That Andrew Solomon wrote and far from the tree, almost parenthood. It catapults us into a permanent relationship with strangers, plural to the extreme.

01:52:08
Speaker 1: It's a love.

01:52:09
Speaker 2: We got a lot of verbiage. It's a yeah. When you become a parent, you meet your child, and then you meet your child again and again and every day after that. You will never stop meeting your child. That is the one reason to become a parent, to have a child, is to fall in love with a thousand little beautiful strangers, and I.

01:52:30
Speaker 3: Think that is that could not be more true. Yeah, I definitely feel that way. I feel like I'm getting to meet a new person every single morning.

01:52:40
Speaker 1: It does feel that way.

01:52:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, And just again like the just all the thinking about all the new versions, Like now I think back to my crack of cold one and getting to spend time with Scottie at fifteen months compared.

01:52:50
Speaker 1: To when I watched her when she was a lot younger.

01:52:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, because I know I'm hanging out and building a connection with a completely different person because she's a little bit more with it. So there's a there's an element there that I'm getting a lot more joy from. Not that I didn't have joy when she was a little baby, but you do feel like you're with a completely new person. But I love that perspective. He does have a it's a newsletter. You'd sit there and click on the link and read all three reasons, one being loving strangers, the second one being ride the Rides, and three is titled Another Way. So this is his whole rite up on being a dad.

01:53:29
Speaker 1: That's sick, and that's just getting straight posted to Twitter. Yeah, yeah, and then under it like you know how you'll do the thread.

01:53:36
Speaker 2: He's got his link to the overarching all three reasons why, and he dives in on what it's like for him being a dad.

01:53:41
Speaker 1: Got it? And that was kind of the surface level, which again a lot of verbiage.

01:53:45
Speaker 2: I would have sit there and had to type in and google some definitions on a couple of these words, you know what I mean?

01:53:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:53:54
Speaker 2: But I do love the perspective on you are always meeting your child, coming across a different version every day, and they all pour into every day that you have with them, pours into the next day, which pours into the next day. So even as a parent when you think they're not going to remember this, or because you as you as an adult now can't recollect all of these memories from when you were before what four years old, maybe somebody has a phenomen logical.

01:54:23
Speaker 1: Memory when they were two, you know what I mean? Yeah, you know what I mean.

01:54:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, But just knowing that everything is so foundational for the next version and the kid's going to be.

01:54:33
Speaker 3: It is a very kind of scary eye opening experience. Was that I've mentioned on this show. We'll do very small amount of screen time with Scarlet with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Yep, and that's really it. We've only done Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to this point. Jilly Bean's at Target and shows Scarlet this mini mouse doll. Scarlet went ballistic. It's her favorite thing in the world, and there was like actual Jill could tell that. She was like, I know that thing. Yeah, I know that thing. Yeah, that's crazy, dude. How many months?

01:55:12
Speaker 1: Well eight? Yeah.

01:55:14
Speaker 3: And that's not to say like, oh, Scarlett's are super smart at eight month old. It's just that, yo, you might not think that stuff's impressionable. Obviously, she's you know, recognizing something and just witnessing all the development is just so fun. Yeah, fascinating for the parent when you see the next iteration of like, oh damn, she knew what that was. Yeah, and you're seeing them grow up in real time. It's dude, it is the best. It's the best.

01:55:41
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? What else is the best?

01:55:43
Speaker 3: Will If there was a date on the calendar, just to like put a bow on this episode, if there was a day on this calendar.

01:55:50
Speaker 2: If I don't think two long term and I just what's in front of me?

01:55:54
Speaker 1: What's the micro? The micro is the micro is March fourteenth? Oh really for what? For what reason?

01:56:08
Speaker 6: Oh?

01:56:09
Speaker 1: Steak and blow Job Day. That's a national holiday.

01:56:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, it is, so that's an official thing.

01:56:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, if you if you google what holiday is March fourteenth? Let's just look at it now.

01:56:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, so let's go ahead and get on the Google machine. What do people celebrate on March fourteenth? It? What's the internet say?

01:56:39
Speaker 6: Fuck Pie Day, International Day of Mathematics, Genius Day, National Potato Chip Day, and Bake a Pie in Solidarity Day.

01:56:53
Speaker 1: Ah so now I get a sneak, a blowjob and a pie. Damn of them. You can celebrate both. That's okay. Let me just all hit the dive, dive deeper in AI mode. Oh okay, what about.

01:57:09
Speaker 5: As you on March fourteenth? Well, what Wikipedia's Steak and Blowjob Day? It's also Steaking Knobber Day, our Friend's Overseasnobber Day.

01:57:21
Speaker 1: No, bah, I canna get your stiking. You gotta get me a jump.

01:57:28
Speaker 2: I just asked, I said, what about Steak and blow Job Day? Steak and Blowjob Day, often called Steak and BJ Day, is an unofficial satrical holiday celebrated on March fourteenth, exactly one month after Valentine's Day. It was conceived as a male response to Valentine's Day, which some feel is a holiday primarily focused on women.

01:57:54
Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, so I'm not saying that that's true, but that's fair. I see that. I see how they land on that. Yeah, that's like some ticket.

01:58:04
Speaker 2: Literally is widely considered an internet meme or a joke rather than.

01:58:07
Speaker 1: A legitimate holiday.

01:58:08
Speaker 3: Oh okay whatever, Okay, Well, it's near and dear to some people's Sorry, It's.

01:58:15
Speaker 2: Not recognized by any government or greeting car company, and it remains largely viral internet phenomena.

01:58:20
Speaker 1: Oh okay, is it recognized by any like podcasts?

01:58:23
Speaker 4: Think?

01:58:23
Speaker 2: Oh well, I don't think we need an answer. It is recognized before the dad's pat.

01:58:27
Speaker 1: Okay, cool.

01:58:27
Speaker 5: You see what the response to the response for Valentine's Day is the female version of Steak and Blowjob.

01:58:33
Speaker 4: Day follow up follower's a follow up follow on the fourteenth of April.

01:58:39
Speaker 1: I'm gonna pronounce this in correctly.

01:58:40
Speaker 5: It's cake and cannilingush knelgis, which is the FEMA fallatio if you will. So it goes Valentine's Day, Steak and Blowjob Days a.

01:58:55
Speaker 1: Little trip downside, get on down there. I'm good with that. That's good.

01:59:04
Speaker 3: That feels like a really great place to uh finish the Yeah, the episode.

01:59:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, to wrap the sode and we will keep the empty sixers in mind when we have this next April fourteenth coming, cake and kind of angus. Yeah, cake and kind of angus.

01:59:20
Speaker 3: You get some on Valentine's, I get some on steak and BJ you get something again, and then well that's we need to have been another one.

01:59:29
Speaker 1: March fourteenth and April fourteenth. We head south. We just head south. Came man, you don't have to move down. Then you visited? Yeah, put a blindfold on it. How should I put h? Good? So take out your trash. I love you for the dance, man, for the dance.
