I mean, I'm almost sixty. 00:01:11 Speaker 5: That's unbelievable. By the way, every time you say that, it throws me. 00:01:14 Speaker 2: Off by yours, by yours not mentality. 00:01:18 Speaker 4: True, but I act like I'm twelve, and I'm okay with that. Why not. Matt's the second oldest. And then Drew and Shannon are kind of like are babies. 00:01:28 Speaker 5: Although we don't really feel like babies. 00:01:30 Speaker 4: Drew, you are the baby, and you're having these old man episodes this morning? What is wrong with you? 00:01:35 Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm getting old. I walked in here and spend a few minutes looking for my computer and our new friend here from Nashville's like you didn't bring a computer, went back to my car and got it. Had something to tell you a topic we had and I'm just sitting here in my brain's just spinning. It can't come to me. We were talking about a day when Matt's gone we can finally speak freely about this topic that I can't think of, neither one of us here looking at you, going uh uh so, yeah, I guess I'm field it. 00:02:00 Speaker 4: This morning, I have learned that I have to take notes. If I have an idea for the show, I have to put it in my messages or my notes or my calendar or something. Oh, I'll just forget it. 00:02:10 Speaker 5: Earlier this year, I've always been pretty good about writing things down. Have like an idea for a website post or something, I go to the notes app But I have to have it to do list now. I surrendered to to do lists this year. I have one to do this every day. Yeah with like times. If I get behind, you better catch up, like it'll it'll pop. 00:02:29 Speaker 4: Up an alert mister your appointment. Yeah. 00:02:32 Speaker 5: I'll put little things on there too. It's not big stuff like go do the radio show. It can be little. I'm just a little chore where I have to do. But I have to write stuff down now. I want to embarrass myself. I had to give myself a note to remind me to get gas on the way to work this morning. I was on empty last night. I had to write myself and put it in my calendar, get gas. Part of it is you can't be late for the show. It's not like a job where you be like hand five minutes behind. I'll catch up. I mean the show starts. In the show starts, so something like gas, we already cut it close as is. You don't want to get in your car and look down and be on empty set. I've done that before. I've done that this month and it's only the sixth. 00:03:11 Speaker 4: You know, I'm naked in the shower listing pre show. 00:03:13 Speaker 5: I don't need to hear about that. And when I get out, let's stick with. 00:03:17 Speaker 4: The every day. I listened to Shannon Naked, Appreciate, Appreciate, and then I get out and I look at my phone and look at the alert popped up get gas. Reminded me I need to get gas before I go do the radio show today. 00:03:29 Speaker 5: I can't make play. Literally yesterday on my to do list, app I had gas, get gas. I had to get it by one pm. Well, welcome to the forties. Yeah, it's fun. You want me to read my to do list today? Okay, twenty things on there. I won't go through all of it. 00:03:41 Speaker 4: Gentlemen. This is Drew Franklin's to do list for Thursday, November, like. 00:03:45 Speaker 5: I do the radio show. We'll check that off and new you have that on your your that one, that one's pretty common. 00:03:50 Speaker 6: I got. 00:03:50 Speaker 5: I got a website post. I gotta finish. Been working on it. It's on your to do list. I have that done by three thirty or I started getting behind. We got a happy Hour on YouTube today. Watch that, Okay, un comfortable everyone joined us. Got that at four. I'll check that out off five. Then I got a few private things, shopping, some gifts. I don't want to read that out in the air, but I gotta get those done. I gotta design some T shirts for Nashville, all kinds of things. 00:04:14 Speaker 4: Yeah, because your wedding anniversary is the Tuesday, the day of the Louisville game next week, is it. 00:04:19 Speaker 5: Yes, That's why I gotta get those gifts. Thank you. Put in my anniversary. 00:04:25 Speaker 4: It's eleven. Eleven, the best number at all of the numbers. 00:04:29 Speaker 5: There we go. That's how we get through our days. 00:04:31 Speaker 4: And that's why you better put that on your to do list, because you cannot forget to get your wife Abby and anniversary. 00:04:36 Speaker 5: She's fired up about there being a basketball game that night. I'll tell you that the. 00:04:39 Speaker 4: Other things standing that got we did this morning before the shows. All the fun stuff happened before the show starts. Herew's having the old man moment and Mario is just getting embarrassed because Bronnie got on his head last night by Victor Wimbin Yama. Yeah, I mean it's awful. 00:04:54 Speaker 3: I know that Mario is a big fan of Lebron or Lebron Bronni, right, he loves some Bronni. But he got absolutely embarrassed aby that dunk. I mean, that was that was that was ugly. 00:05:04 Speaker 5: Every morning Mario he doesn't say good morning, Hey you look nice today, or hey you look bad today? Hey do you remember your laptop today? The first thing out of Mario's mouth every morning is see Brownny last night and tonight. There's a little tear in those eyes when Mario explained to me what happened. I don't know why he jumped with Wimby, why, I don't know what he thought was going to happen. Four, But Mario is in a bad place today. 00:05:26 Speaker 4: Bronnie looks like a little looks like me if there like a little kid out there. 00:05:30 Speaker 5: And then there's that picture where Bronni is at like the height of his jump, and he's still looking up at Winby, who's cocking it back on top of his head. Wemby looked a lot like Colin Chandler on that clip. 00:05:39 Speaker 4: Yes he did, okay, which brings me which I I I butch by the way, I brought the abasic glass text machine. Oh do you remember the number? 00:05:48 Speaker 5: Okay? Five oh two? 00:05:49 Speaker 4: Yeah? 00:05:50 Speaker 5: Seven? 00:05:50 Speaker 4: Uh huh, I. 00:05:52 Speaker 5: Felt like there's an eight in here. Helped me out. And then eighty five eighty six thirty four to thirty five thirty five thirty six eighty Okay, I'm rusty, that's on me. 00:06:03 Speaker 4: I vote to seven thirty five thirty six eighty. I brought it because MaTx and I here today. We need to You know, people can review work with a show with us. And there's a great question on there from like a week ago, and now it's even better. I think I want you to give if you I think the way they put it with if you were an alien and you came down from outer space. Okay, you knew nothing about Kentucky basketball. You knew nothing about who their freshmen were, who the returners were, who the transfer portal guy? All you're judging is what you've seen from the Purdue game, the Georgetown game, and now we can add the Nichols game. Who's your starting five after what you've seen, just what you've seen, who's your starting five? I thought that was a good question. It is. 00:06:45 Speaker 5: It's a little unfair because I haven't seen the injured guys, so I would. 00:06:48 Speaker 4: Love to say that's it. We can't even talk about them. 00:06:50 Speaker 5: Also, this analogy is exactly what I said about Cutter Bowley in the fall. We went to that media practice in my exact words, or if I were an alien that just landed and watched football practice, I would say that's the starting quarterback. That was my analogy in the fall. So I've probably done this once, but I guess I would have to say, uh, oh way, Aberdeen, di you bat? 00:07:11 Speaker 4: Okay, I think those three are given. Yeah, I think those three are locked in. The other two I think are up for debate. 00:07:19 Speaker 5: Malcolm Reno would hit his free throws. I think I would. I would say him, yep, but one for six last game. I'm still giving the slight edge to Garrison. Okay, But if I'm an alien, I'm like, who's this other guy? Because he's looking pretty good too. Those are tough for me. But the free throw shooting alone, I'll give Garrison the edge. Okay, So then I still need another guard or wing. Yeah, you know Trent. Noah's hurt, and Trent has started all three games. Do aliens know how rold ankles work? 00:07:46 Speaker 4: I do. 00:07:47 Speaker 5: I understand what I just watched. 00:07:49 Speaker 4: Do you think Trent has played well enough to. 00:07:51 Speaker 5: He and Cam aren't making their shot? I would probably just have to be like that, that curly haired blonde kid. You know, he's been inconsistent, but I'm putting him in there. I think that's that'd be my group. Aberdeen Chandler, O Way Diabate slight nod to Garrison because of Marino just being cold from the free throw. 00:08:07 Speaker 4: All right, Channon, and what are you going with? 00:08:09 Speaker 6: Oh? 00:08:09 Speaker 2: Way for sure? 00:08:10 Speaker 3: Uh, Colin Chandler, especially the way he played last game. Garrison Diabate and I'd probably throw Jasper Johnson in there. 00:08:19 Speaker 5: And if I'm an alien, I see that Colin Chandler dunk and I wonder if he's one of us, how did he get here and play for this team. 00:08:25 Speaker 4: I'm really tore between Jasper and Chandler because Chandler's The game against Nichols is fresh in our mind. He struggled against Georgetown and didn't play that well against prdue those. 00:08:35 Speaker 2: Yea, but those games didn't count though, well. 00:08:38 Speaker 4: They counted this exercise. 00:08:39 Speaker 5: Aliens don't know anything about preseason and posts. They just they just can't watch the game. 00:08:43 Speaker 4: So I think I'm I'm going Aberdeen at the point, oh Way at the two, and Diabate at the four. That's those are given. But then I think I'm going with Jasper and Malachi. 00:08:56 Speaker 5: I don't think you can wrong and be wrong in saying that. 00:08:59 Speaker 4: Colin will be my first guy off the bench because he could play any of the three spots. I like that. Yeah, he can come play the one, two or the three. But if you didn't know, you know, I think that would be your the group we're talking about those five or six guys. 00:09:11 Speaker 5: Yeah, a lot of ups and downs with all those guys too. Maybe Diabode has been pretty steady, but it's been an inconsistent start so far. 00:09:19 Speaker 4: Yellowvich hasn't done much, Cam Williams hasn't done much, Trent Noah hasn't done much. 00:09:25 Speaker 5: Surely Trent and Cam Williams, it'll start going in eventually. I mean, I don't think people were lying when they talked about how well they shot all summer. I mean that's all we heard. I'm worried there's been a little bit of a jinx on that, a little bit of talking about him too much, lift him up too high, and it hadn't shown. But surely that will level out. And I think part of it's just been the offense hasn't had the flow with out a point guard and you know it all works together, you all gotta be complimentary. And in that first half we saw when they weren't moving the ball and they were sitting around looking at each other, they just took turn chucking up threes and that's not gonna help him at all. 00:09:56 Speaker 4: I heard Jack Gibbings on the Leech Report this morning and he was talking about how when you're a good shooter like that in practice, you're just catching it and shooting it. He said, he compared it to a golfer you try to you're trying to aim your golf shop instead just swinging, just going back and just swinging and just hitting it. No trying to aim the ball. He thinks that's what Cam Williams is doing in the game, not in practice, but in the game kind of just hesitating just enough. He's just trying to push it through. Yeah. 00:10:22 Speaker 5: That and like Chandler obviously went three for three in the second half. He looks more confident when it's more of catch, shoot, react than initiating as the lead ball handler. And then even just all of them, they need the offense to be working, Like oh Way can't drive when they're just passing around the perimeter. He needs shooters out there to space the defense so he can get a lane. I mean, all of it, you know, works together. That's the beauty in the offense. And then in that first half when they're just looking at each other, nobody can do what they're supposed to be doing. 00:10:49 Speaker 4: So do we know anything about Trent Noah's ankle? 00:10:52 Speaker 5: Is he sounds like he's good to go? Pope called him a liar? Uh was it? 00:10:57 Speaker 6: What night? 00:10:57 Speaker 7: Was that? 00:10:57 Speaker 4: When we play Tuesday night? 00:10:59 Speaker 5: Tuesday night? Yeah, after the game, because Trent was saying at halftime, I'm good to go, put me in, put me in trainers. Like he says he's good. Pope's like he's lying to you. We're gonna sit him out, but he he was very active during halftime and in the shoot round it looked like he was ready to go, So I would I'd suspect he's fine. 00:11:13 Speaker 4: He had a boot yesterday. 00:11:15 Speaker 5: Yeah, they did the two K NBA two K thing came to campus. Did you see that? 00:11:20 Speaker 7: No? 00:11:20 Speaker 4: I didn't see that. 00:11:21 Speaker 5: It's like a big lab like a bus. But then they scanned the players because Kentucky's gonna be in the new video game. Oh no, that's how Trent was spotted. They parked that thing outside the Joe Craftson there's a million pictures of it online. But it's very cool for the players. They all get to go in there and it does a complete body scan so they can be in the video game. But part of that is that's how Trent was seen in a boat a boot. I hope they scanned him without the boot for so he can be in the game. But you know, with boots, we all worry when you see you got a boot. This happens almost every season, but it's boots are pretty common these days. It's a precautionary. They're gonna be walking around campus in a boot. If they turn it ankle, it doesn't mean three four months, six months. They wear boots all the time. 00:11:57 Speaker 4: Oh take it was in a boot most of the summer. 00:12:00 Speaker 5: Toe injury very very common, So. 00:12:02 Speaker 4: We're not for sure about Trump. At Juleen that he's probably going to be He was. 00:12:07 Speaker 5: Very active at halftime. I thought he was gonna come out and play the second half of the last game, Pope just took the precautionary measure because it's Nichols h But I'd be surprised if Trent's out too long. Maybe they hold him one more game just to be safe, but he was moving around pretty well. 00:12:21 Speaker 4: And then Jalen Law. 00:12:25 Speaker 5: I don't know anything, but just as a fan, I really hope they get him a game before a little because I feel like he's close and I don't want Louisville to be his first game, especially on the road. You want to get him a rep before that. But they're also you don't want to push him too soon. But there's one game between now and Louisll. So I hope he's out there, And if I had to guess, I would say yes, But that's not an educated guess. That's just hearing how close he's been for several weeks. 00:12:49 Speaker 4: Do we know if he's in contact drills now, he's been practicing. 00:12:52 Speaker 5: I don't know if it's been one hundred percent, but he's he's been ramped up and practicing in some form for a while. I mean even the family practice we went to. He wasn't doing five on five's or real aggressive in the drills, but he wasn't just sitting there and watching either. He was doing some stuff. 00:13:06 Speaker 4: So we want to hear from you today. We'll take a lot of phone calls. Eight five, nine to two to eighty seven. We have a special guest coming for the second hour. It's right Cash Daniel's coming in. 00:13:16 Speaker 5: He might have some thoughts on the current state of the other team. 00:13:19 Speaker 4: I mean perfect, you know, and we talk about the Kentucky's winner of Florida. You think of him, yeah, you know, that's his game. So Cash will be here to talk about We'll get in the weeds on UK football and talk about his wrestling careers. 00:13:28 Speaker 5: Also, I'll check this first segment off my to do list, all chipping away at that. 00:13:32 Speaker 4: But before we go to break, we do need that. I just want to acknowledge, you know, Louisville is still a city in mourning and the death toll now, Shane, I think is up to twelve. 00:13:41 Speaker 2: I think that's right, yep. 00:13:42 Speaker 4: And Governor Bisheer said they don't expect to find any more living bodies, so the death hold more than likely will increase. One of the those dead as a child. So you know, we know, we know the city of Louisville in mourning. A lot of people that live in that area are traumatized by it. You know, happen right here in your backyard. So just want to acknowledge you know, we're thinking about you guys, praying about you guys, and uh, hang in there, because it's it's gonna get worse for it gets better, I think, yeah. 00:14:10 Speaker 5: I mean, the loss of life is absolutely tragic, but there's several people in Louisville who just witnessed it. You know, Nick Rouse doesn't live too far our friend from from the site. I mean that the whole city's going through right now, and thinking about everyone, especially the ones most impacted. 00:14:24 Speaker 4: Well said, all right, we'll take our break, come back. Go to the phone lines eight five nine two aight, oh two two eight seven Ryan Drew and Shannon, this is Kentucky Sports Radio. All right, welcome back, to Tekey Sports Radio, Ryan Drew and Shannon uh give us a call today eight five, nine two, eight h two to eight seven. We'll try to get as many calls as we can. I do want to go to the Av's and glass text machine. Okay, I'm glad I brought it. Five O two seven, thirty five, thirty six eighty or thirty six thirty five eighty. 00:14:56 Speaker 2: You don't even know your own. 00:14:57 Speaker 4: Thirty five thirty six eighty. 00:14:59 Speaker 5: You had to look at the back, look at the back. I love the numbers on the back. 00:15:02 Speaker 4: On the way, I don't remember. Okay, this is one somebody says. If I'm an alien, I'm going small ball with Aberdeen, Johnson, Chandler, o Way and Diabate. Okay, I hadn't thought about that. 00:15:14 Speaker 5: Angle Wait say that again. I missed a person. I heard four names. 00:15:18 Speaker 4: Say Aberdeen, Johnson, Chandler. Okay, I didn't catch Johnson, oh Way, gotcha, and Diabte. 00:15:23 Speaker 5: I can see that. I'm enjoying the Jasper experience so far. It's it's been it's been a little a little messy, but it's been fun. 00:15:29 Speaker 4: He's just a score man. He can just get the ball in the basket and he's not afraid to take that shot either. 00:15:34 Speaker 5: So oh, that's that's the case. And in the Georgetown game, I think he took four in a row and Pope took five steps onto the court and yelled at him. But that's the fun part. He's figuring it out. He comes from ot, he's young, he's got the got the creator in him. Uh, they'll get that dialed in. But so far, it's been fun watching him. Just you get used to everything. 00:15:51 Speaker 4: His dad didn't sent me a text kind of upset. We out at him yesterday for sitting at the very tippy top of Rupperina, But that's just that's a dad man. We those of us that are dad that have kids at play, we understand why you do that. 00:16:04 Speaker 5: And when the arena is as empty as it was, he wasn't hiding very well. I know his intent wasn't to be seen, but that section was pretty empty. Even if it wasn't his dad, people in there would be like, who's that person way up there in that seat? That's so unnecessary for them to be in the top row. 00:16:17 Speaker 4: Eighty's six six. I mean, it's not like you can hide up there and you see him up there. 00:16:21 Speaker 5: I mean, I saw him and didn't know who it was. I just thought, man, that guy just wants a good seat. And that's when somebody's like, that's Dennis. I like squinted, like that's Dennis. 00:16:28 Speaker 4: There's another one on the a vision glass text machine. If I'm an alien and I don't know much about basketball, I'm asking to put that super tall guy named Mark Pope in the starting five. 00:16:38 Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true. I got a little age on him compared to the others, but just from the height, you know, I could see showing up on Earth and being like, who the hell is that? 00:16:46 Speaker 4: So what was your biggest takeaway from the season opener against Nichols. Is there something that you're let's go your most positive and then maybe your most negative. 00:16:57 Speaker 5: I guess it's very clear the Chandler's are two. We suspected that, and he got his opportunity to try running the show a little bit, but we saw what happened when they switched at halftime, slid him over and put Aberdeen in there. So I guess not giving up on Chandler and seeing that he's much better off the ball, better reacting than being more of the creator initiating I'd say that's my biggest takeaway because he had a great half and we learned exactly how he needs to play, So that's my big one there. I'm still worried about overall shooting, I guess, but as I mentioned in the first segment, that was mostly in the first half when the offense was so clunky. So hopefully that'll fix itself and when Noah's healthy and then whatever Cam Williams is going to become, those two have to get it going. They can't keep missing because they're the shooters on the team. 00:17:43 Speaker 4: Shannon, what was your biggest takeaway positive and negative from the game against Nickels? 00:17:47 Speaker 3: State that Nichols that it was clear that Mark Pope worked on defense in practice all week and not offense. I mean defensively. You held Nichols to fifteen points. I think what was the overall record, like eleven. I think it was the few points ever scored at Roperino, So that was impressive. But then the flip side of that, the ugly part was the offense. The bad shooting free throws too, have got to improve. That was that was pretty ugly. 00:18:11 Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's hard to not realize this is not our team at full strength. But when you see the product on the court, both you guys are right. Shooting outside shooting has not been what we thought it would be. And Shannon said at free throw shooting, I mean, they practice a lot on free throws and they have not shot free throws. 00:18:29 Speaker 2: Very well at all, twelve for twenty two. 00:18:32 Speaker 4: I mean, so is it too early to get worried when this is not even our full strength team yet, or is there a reason to get a little worried about the shooting. 00:18:41 Speaker 5: Oh, you gotta worry about it because it was in all preseason games and the and the Nickels game. Now, if you wanted to do a little silver lining, I think oh Way and Jasper took the other than Marino. They were four for five each. Chandler was like two for three or one for two. So your guards, you guys that are playing a lot having ball, were hitting them. And don't mean to pick on him, but Marino going one for six really brought the team average down. Now, the team average still matters, and he took the most free throw so that definitely matters. But it seems there's just a couple of culprits so far that aren't knocking down their shots, and you know, always a guy it's gonna take a lot of them. Him going four for five. That's good to see. 00:19:18 Speaker 4: And I don't think Malachai is a bad free throw shooter. Maybe it's just is it just getting getting caught up in the moment and then it gets in your head, you know, free throws mental kind of like hitting a five foot putt. He gets in your head and all of sudden you can't hit anything. 00:19:30 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I have the box score up now. They missed ten free throws. He and Dubote miss seven or eight of the ten. Yeah. That those guys are gonna play and they're taking a lot of free throw so they got hit them. But it doesn't seem to be a whole team issue except for the team percentage. 00:19:44 Speaker 4: On the recruiting front. Tyrant Stokes, the kid from Louisville, kind of was in the headlines yesterday. He's been kicked out of school or did he leaves school? You get in trouble at School's what's exact the exact story there. There's something about he got a disciplinary issue and he decides to leave school. Here when the season is just getting ready to start. 00:20:03 Speaker 5: I believe the official word says he hasn't withdrawn to explore new opportunities. You know, that might be a nice way of putting it. Sounds like something happened there. Disciplinary might be more of the way. I genuinely don't know, but there's message boards and the buzz is that he's not completely innocent of withdrawing and exploring new opportunities. I don't know if it's just a fit with the team, or if there's a locker room issue or what, but I've heard that saying he would draw up Withdrew to see other opportunities as a polite way of putting it. 00:20:35 Speaker 4: Well, it's it sends off alarm bells. The season is just getting ready to start. You're the number one player in the class, you just narrowed your list of three, and you're getting almost kicked out of school. Does that if you're a coach, does that alarm you a little bit? Or yeah? 00:20:52 Speaker 5: And if there's disciplinary actions and like if there you know, there's there's rumors out there, some some locker room stuff. You know, if that's true, you do worry. This is a your top target at Kentucky and you don't want to bring someone in with some baggage. So I mean, Pope, you can't turn down Tyron Stokes really, and you're all in on him, but you do have to protect your own locker room if he comes here, if he is an issue. That's one thing Kentucky's been so good with, even with Cal. I mean, there are a few little spats that we've mentioned, but overall, we've had pretty good character guys that haven't had big, you know, being baby issues behind the scenes or anything like that. And you want to keep that. 00:21:26 Speaker 4: Yeah, there's already been culters. 00:21:27 Speaker 5: Very important in this innile world. 00:21:28 Speaker 4: There's already been stories where Pope is kind of shaking recruit hand like, you know, hey man, thanks good luck to you. I think you're realizing he's not a good fit for what he wants to do. And I guess they have to look at that. And I'm not saying I don't know what Tyron Stokes did. I don't know what the situation it is, but you know, he's a Kentucky kid. He grew up in Louisville. Kentucky was supposedly the number one team on these final three, so obviously there's a lot of interest on both parts. 00:21:51 Speaker 5: There, definitely, And if it is something he's out, you know, altercations and really getting in trouble, you're gonna have to there's a little scale there. How good at basketball are you? What could you potentially do to our culture that's been so good? And Pope, especially with his messaging of team in Kentucky at number nine, you don't want to bring in a bad apple and because that can derail anything. 00:22:09 Speaker 4: Before we go to the phone line, I do want to mention too. The UK women are in action tonight playing Monmouth. Is it a special Girl Scout game? 00:22:17 Speaker 5: No, the Girl Scout Game was later. I don't remember seeing anything attached to it. I'll try to look on the fly, but it's not the Girl Scout Game or the Okay or whatever the other. 00:22:26 Speaker 4: They host Monmouth a historic memorial Coliseum at six thirty. Darren Hedrick got the pregame show right here on six thirty WLAP at six point fifteen if you want to tune in. 00:22:35 Speaker 5: But oh, it is Girl Scout Day. I thought that was next week. I apologize. I thought maybe sorry Girl Scouts. I thought that was Buffalo on Sunday. 00:22:41 Speaker 4: So what does it mean if you wear your girl Scout uniform you get in free or a. 00:22:45 Speaker 5: Half price or I don't know what it means. Also, while I'm looking at this, I got updated. I mentioned Sunday, that's the volleyball game, not basketball. I said there weren't general mission tickets. I got on there. More so do it all? They released one. I got mine last night. 00:22:58 Speaker 4: All right, there you go, there's your UK update, and we come back. We'll go to the phone lines eight five nine two A two two eight seven, Ryan Drew and Shannon right here on Kentucky' Sports Radio. Bay Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ He'll make them pay. 00:23:14 Speaker 3: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:17 Speaker 2: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:19 Speaker 4: Little Darius Rutger to get us going here on this Thursday edition of Kentucky's Ports Radio. Thank you, mister dude, appreciate that. Uh, you know, he's he's probably down to his South Carolina game. Cocks have not had the season they thought they were gonna have either. They were all high in Mighty thinking maybe they're gonna have the playoffs. They're struggling a little bit too. 00:23:35 Speaker 5: Or if you talk to him, is he doing all right? 00:23:37 Speaker 4: He's doing all right, you know, hanging in there. We kind of been sharing our football woes a little bit. But uh, you know, he's a happy man that he got engaged, just got engaged. Yeah, yeah, he's. 00:23:46 Speaker 5: Got an older engagement. He's getting up there a little bit. 00:23:48 Speaker 4: He's exactly the same age I am. We're a couple of months apart. 00:23:51 Speaker 2: Are you gonna maybe you should get engaged? 00:23:53 Speaker 4: Eight five nine two two eight seven. That's our it's our Clark's pumping shop phone. 00:23:58 Speaker 8: ORMs. 00:23:58 Speaker 4: Wanna call and get him bib be a one call. Who's been waiting for a little while, Shannon, So let's get him on. Who we got. Let's go to John John, Go ahead, John. 00:24:05 Speaker 6: Hey, guys, how's it going? 00:24:06 Speaker 5: How you John? 00:24:09 Speaker 6: Pretty good? Hey? 00:24:10 Speaker 8: Uh listen, just a quick question for you guys. Regardless of like coach, regardless of who our coach is, whoever, whatever, any one in the program, do you ever think or do you ever see like Kentucky football ever being I don't know, or maybe just this a program in general, just being a like a balanced school, you know, like how Florida used to be or something of that nature, you know what I mean. 00:24:39 Speaker 4: Appreciate the phone call. Yeah, we had this conversation some when Kentucky football was winning nine ten games and Kentucky basketball, though kind of dipped a little at that time. They couldn't get him around the same season at the same time, Drew, do you ever foresee a time where they're both at their best? 00:24:55 Speaker 5: I think there will be some runs where Kentucky football is uh is above what we used to seeing, and we have a few years where both of them are rolling. When when Cal and Stoops were having their little or little in house fight there, that's kind of when football was rocking, and that was a fun time. But I don't think we'll ever consistently be living in that world. It'll happen occasionally and we'll love it, but it's just in the sec I don't think we can do it year after year. 00:25:20 Speaker 4: I thought there was a chance when Stoops had the football team rolling, I thought Cal would get up the basketball team back up making some final four runs. They just couldn't get them going at the same time. 00:25:30 Speaker 5: And see, Mike, Yeah, but as we saw during that stretch, I know we all grew up wanting to play basketball, and Kentucky basketball is our baby, but that football when they were winning ten games and Stoops had it at the peak. That was a lot of fun too, and the fan base really got behind it. People were right, back, is this a football state? 00:25:47 Speaker 6: Finally? 00:25:47 Speaker 5: Yeah, it was just very short lived, and I think that will continue to be the case even when we pop back in for those fun moments. 00:25:52 Speaker 4: Aby's a glass tech machine, not gonna judge the shooting until we get low back. His job is to run the offense. It makes sense for the offen has to look discombobulated without him. Well, I guess the count argument is they looked pretty good when Aberdeen was in there running the offense in the second half. So what's your take on it? 00:26:10 Speaker 5: Well, they're exactly right. I mean, we're trying a great football team that doesn't have a quarterback right now. I mean, the guy who's gonna initiate and run the show is sitting in street clothes. But in that second half Aberdeen proved that he is the service back, serviceable backup. We've wondered how Pope would rotate the back court. You got Jasper who could do a little bit of both. We thought Colin Chandler might be able to do a little both. Maybe not at this point, but Aberdeen was six assists and zero turnovers, playing limited minutes, had that flashy no look past to Reno there in the second half. I think he showed what the offense looks like when you have a point guard out there. 00:26:45 Speaker 4: All that talk in the summer, who's gonna be the backup point guard, It's gonna be Jasper Colin Aberdeen. It's Aberdeen. I mean, I think he's won that job and proved to me, especially what he did against Perdue and then when he came in did in the second half against Nichols. 00:26:57 Speaker 5: Yeah, in that first half they barely played him with O Way, even though he got some minutes. He was with that second group. And then when Pope made the halftime adjustment kind of helped with Noah sitting out the second half, that's where we saw him go to the next level playing with the other guys and that even though it was one game that answered a big question, I think and Jasper can do it a little bit. I mean, his first career game was just a few days ago. He might be the third option there. Yeah, Shasper looks like he could he could go back. 00:27:22 Speaker 4: I think so. I think he could do it. Yeah, matter of fact, if I ranked him, I'll probably would put Low one, Aberdeen two, Jasper three. Now Colin, I'd drop him down to four in the point guard rotation. 00:27:31 Speaker 5: And hopefully it's not like last year where you have to get down before. Yeah. Uh, these injuries have been insane to start Mark Pope's career. That's why when Noah was laying down there in the middle of all the camera people and I couldn't even really see him. You could hurt a pin drop in repperena, and I'm thinking, my god, this team is so cursed. But luckily it looks like he hopped up will be okay. But it felt like here we go again. One more. 00:27:53 Speaker 4: Let's switch gears just for a minute. This this weekend, the high school's football playoffs start. Most of the games were supposed to be schedule for tomorrow, but there's bad weather coming into Kentucky and so a lot of those games have been switched to tonight. So actually there are a ton of games tonight open up the football playoffs, including your Bullet East Chargers Shannon. They host North Hardin tonight in their first round of the playoffs. Matt's Middlesborough Yellow Jackets host Harlan tonight. I mean, what a battle that is Middlesborough and Harlan thirteenth Regent showdown in Middlesborough. But Drew, you're Madisonville Maroons. I think you're kind of getting hosed. I couldn't believe it. They've played tomorrow night, so they didn't even move the game. They finished. Massionville finished eight and two. 00:28:36 Speaker 5: The eight and two for us, I mean, that's give us a super Bowl trophy forgiving eight and get him going eight and two in Madisonville. That's a huge season for Mama Roots. 00:28:44 Speaker 4: So they have to play at Greenwood. Greenwood finished six and four. Greenwood didn't move the game to tonight. They want to play in the rain, in the storm tomorrow night, and it's at growing. I think Massisonville North Hoptins is getting hosed in this deal here. 00:28:57 Speaker 5: Thank you for saying that for me, and I gotta be honest, Ryan, I'm not used to having to pay attention to the playoffs as a mass Mil Maroon, so I don't even understand how this happens. I know the format changed, what two years ago? Yeah, two years ago, I get it. This is new. Uh, it's it's it's get more teams in. Everybody's happy, but I'm not happy. How are we at eight and two going to Greenwood, the big city. 00:29:21 Speaker 4: Yeah, going to Bowling green How does that happen? I don't understand it. I mean, I thought I need to call I thought that the high seeded teams play the low seeded teams in the first round, in the second round of the playoffs, So how are they getting how are they having to go on the road to start with when they obviously won their district at eight and two? 00:29:40 Speaker 5: Is your boy j tach behind this? 00:29:42 Speaker 4: That is mister Sir Jullian Tackett, the honorable judge that he is, who I need to call him? Yeah, I don't know. Maybe somebody knows why why this is going on. But the usually these first round games and second round game for kind of a lot of them blowouts. 00:29:57 Speaker 5: Did anyone tell them that we beat Paduca Tilman? Has one brought that up at the committee. 00:30:02 Speaker 4: A very strong Puduka Tillman team that many thought might win that stay tight on five A. 00:30:06 Speaker 5: We scored seventy points in a game that was that against Owantsborough. No, they scored like seventy points get us. But that doesn't matter. Ryan, it was against Central Arrival. 00:30:14 Speaker 4: That's what I's gonna say. Even if you beat Greenwood tomorrow night, your next round game is against Owensboro that just beat you a couple of weeks ago. 00:30:22 Speaker 5: I'm driving to KHSA headquarters. Is that in lexus? 00:30:25 Speaker 4: Yeah? 00:30:25 Speaker 5: It talk to it. They're gonna hear from me today. I'm adding that to my to do list. Ryan offices. I need to start walking at about one ten to get there. 00:30:37 Speaker 4: Trevor the radio guy, Maddisonville's got to be having a field day, Trevor Rice, My goodness, I can't understand how they have to go on the road the first game and then probably play owens Borough in the second game. 00:30:46 Speaker 5: If we didn't have a basketball game tomorrow night, I would be making a trip to Bowling Green and I would I would be heard, they would know I'm there. Maroons. We gotta win. We can't let the system beat us. They're obviously trying to cheat us all success. They're trying to put us back in the dark in a closet like we don't matter. They're saying, get out of our playoffs. You don't belong here. But we're gonna upset Greenwood and we're gonna we're gonna beat Owensborough. I don't care if they put the chiefs in front of us. Three weeks from now, Madisonville is gonna keep rolling. 00:31:12 Speaker 4: Drew Franklin. Drew Franklin, Lazies, gentlemen. There you go, the little Madisonville rant right there that I think is well deserved because they're getting the hose a little bit over there. 00:31:19 Speaker 5: We beat Paducah. And thanks for bringing up Ryan, because if I say we're getting hoes, people think I'm being all. But you are an objective journalist Twitter journalist. Yes, he's covered high school football in this state longer than I've been alive. It might not be true, but thank you for standing up for her. 00:31:33 Speaker 4: Or no, we're talking about Madisonville. I gotta ask you this. I was told there's a guy, a guitar player who's very famous for madis Field named Bosco France. Okay, you said you'd never heard of him. Well, you don't have to say that out loud. Maybe Bosco, I'm sure you're doing a great job. But no, I'm not familiar with. But he's, like I guess, famous for guitar player from Madisonville. 00:31:52 Speaker 5: This is a bad look for me. I understand we are the best town on earth. I love Madisonville. I am not familiar with Bosco friends, but please tell me more. 00:31:59 Speaker 4: I did. He's played with guitar and a lot of famous groups, and I'm hearing like he's he had a concert in Evansville last night. That's how I know about him. People are going to the Bosco France concert. Who was from Madisonville, and apparently he plays on stage in overalls. 00:32:15 Speaker 5: Well good. That sounds like a good outfit, and I'm proud of anyone from Madisonville that's out doing good things. I feel bad that I wasn't familiar with Bosco, but I like another good Madison Villian. 00:32:24 Speaker 4: That's right. Who are they? Frank Ramsey, john Hood, john Hood, Travis Ford. 00:32:29 Speaker 5: Zach Towell. We have more Kentucky basketball players than we should probably have. 00:32:33 Speaker 4: Zach Taw who got in the game the other night. It's right, big moment. 00:32:36 Speaker 5: Very proud of Zach too. 00:32:37 Speaker 4: Got in them again in the end of the game. 00:32:38 Speaker 5: From an sec family, his sister was a villa softball star at Alabama. 00:32:42 Speaker 4: Oh, she was a superstar. She was a pitcher, right, she was their picture. 00:32:46 Speaker 5: We played ball in Madisonville a little bit. 00:32:48 Speaker 4: But they get the hose when it comes to the football player until we win it. 00:32:51 Speaker 5: Edit Greenwood. 00:32:51 Speaker 4: All right, well take our break, come back. Go back to the phone line eight five nine two eight zho two two eight seven. If you got something you want to get off your chest, or if you want to support the Madisonville Maroons, we'll take your well. Eight five nine eight two to eight seven as the Clark's publics top phone number. We'll bright back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back k Taken Sports Radio, Ryan Drew and Shannon. My friend Mike just sent me the RPI rankings in the Class five A high school football. 00:33:15 Speaker 5: Okay, let's hear them. 00:33:16 Speaker 4: Madisonville is seventh. Oh nice, Greenwood their opponent on Friday, that they have to play at Greenwood sixteenth. 00:33:25 Speaker 5: Getting worked up, I'm gonna walk to KHSA right now. 00:33:27 Speaker 4: It makes no sense, it really does, and I'm on Madisonville side. But the fact that Greenwood won't even move the game to tonight where the weather's gonna be a little better, tells me they're out to hose madison Ville as much as they can. 00:33:38 Speaker 5: So I have a text from a source Yeah, it's my dad. He's a good source. He says, we're on the road because we lost to Apollo, and then Corey Price since the standings and Apollo was four and one in the district Worth three and two and they're in our district, so I guess that was the difference maker. 00:33:58 Speaker 4: Wait a minute, but that would just put you in second place behind Apollo well Worth. 00:34:02 Speaker 5: It's it seems complicated, but like the one, the two seed from this regent region plays the three seed from this rea. 00:34:08 Speaker 4: I don't know. 00:34:09 Speaker 5: Corey Price sent me a long explanation, there's even a spreadsheet, but it all comes down to Apollo Sea. I'm not kid. Look how much this. I can't do this on the air. This would be a bad radio. But uh, the loss to Apollo was apparently the difference. 00:34:19 Speaker 4: That's the difference. Make it say finished eight and two. Doesn't matter who you lose to. You lose one game the wrong people and it hoses you. 00:34:24 Speaker 5: It doesn't matter Massiveville. We play the team in front of us, and if we got to go to Bowling Green, we'll go beat the Bowling Green. 00:34:29 Speaker 4: All right, We've got the people on phone to get on. Get on with Drew here to talk about the Madison Mill maroon. So who we got you in the truth. The truth is on the truth, go ahead, truth. 00:34:41 Speaker 5: True. 00:34:41 Speaker 7: I didn't know you were from Madisonville. 00:34:44 Speaker 5: Best town on Earth, truth born and raised. 00:34:47 Speaker 7: All right, I know you got a good running back many half time. Yeah, yeah, I know me too. 00:34:54 Speaker 5: I know a lot of the hot Towers. He's a great running back. 00:34:59 Speaker 7: Let me tell you some that's the ticket, Matt Jones. Let me tell you that man joon't want you to hear it that you didn't want to give me no tickets to go to IU and touch. I guess what I got on December to see somebody for IEU reached out to me and say, I want you to go to the Louisville and Louisville and louis and I you came on December six, and you be able to go to the Big Ten championship game with over our states and Indiana played December to see when we're paying for everything, I can know that somebody for I you reached out. 00:35:39 Speaker 4: Well, that's all old thing that standing young citizens like yourself. 00:35:47 Speaker 7: Hey, let me you I'm gonna throw this into Madison Bell. You're wrong about Madison. You need to go back when I used to play gainst Madison Bell in the eighties, when you had O. C. Nichols, when Madison it was number one in football in Henderson County was number two and we beat y'ab. 00:36:05 Speaker 4: Listen, listen talking trash truth. 00:36:07 Speaker 5: If you want to talk Madisonville Henderson, we'll have to put the radio down because we don't get along. So that's that's for another time. But yes, you're right, there has been some good football history at Madisonville. Ever heard of a guy named Sonny Collins? I believe I've heard of that. We've had some good years. It's just been a since we've been in the conversation. 00:36:24 Speaker 7: All right, have you ever heard the two great guys played at UK played at Henderson County named Roger Bird and Familball. 00:36:33 Speaker 4: I know them Ball and Will Fiddler and Will Fiddler good point, Yeah, truth, appreciate it. Thanks for the phone call. Yeah, Sam Ball one of the greatest off eddion linemen ever to play Kentucky. 00:36:43 Speaker 5: It's gotten better in old age, been high school, Massvill Henderson and it's one of those we all have those. Our golf teams got separated on the punning. 00:36:50 Speaker 4: I'm going to doubt that Truth played football at Henderson though in the eighth Also, it's very nice they're taking him to the Louisville game. 00:36:59 Speaker 5: It is, however, going getting tickets to a Louisville game and getting tigs rupper in or two different things. 00:37:04 Speaker 4: That's true. 00:37:04 Speaker 5: Yeah, it might be able to walk right into the Young Center for wherever you want, not take away, it's gonna be exciting. It's cooled. Indiana did that. Uh, but it was it four dollars ticket to go see a Litiverle game these. 00:37:14 Speaker 4: Days, easy, easy, easy access to go to the Louisville game. So it was nicer taking Truth, No. 00:37:20 Speaker 5: Very very and it'd be good having an Awave fan in Louisville. I'll actually be an Indiana fan that day. 00:37:25 Speaker 4: Who's next, Shannon, Jay, Jay, go ahead, Jay. 00:37:29 Speaker 6: Good morning. 00:37:31 Speaker 7: Hey. 00:37:31 Speaker 6: The high school playoffs, the district's one place, two three plays four, et cetera. The one seed place to host the fourth seed. The two seed hosts the three seed. Madisonville was undefeated and went and got beat by Apollo forty nine to forty, and then Orangebroo went over and put a sixty one to seven. 00:37:54 Speaker 4: I'll be losing. 00:37:57 Speaker 6: Down there. So if Madison it is fortunate enough to win Friday night against Greenwood, I think Owen Sproul is not going to be real intimidated by him. 00:38:08 Speaker 5: Great appreciates phone call with everybody call him down on this trash talker. This is gonna be a different type of show. 00:38:14 Speaker 4: Oldensborough has Evan Hampton, grandson of our friend Doug Hampton, son of referee Brent Hampton, committed to Vanderbilt to play football at the Commodore. Is in the SEC. So he's definitely one of the best players in the state. 00:38:27 Speaker 5: The best thing Evan Hampton did was to commit from Louisville. Best decision. 00:38:31 Speaker 4: Let's get another call, Shannon. 00:38:32 Speaker 2: Who we got Let's go to Madison. 00:38:34 Speaker 4: Madison, go ahead, another call from Henderson. They're all calling from Henson. 00:38:39 Speaker 6: How are you doing, Ryan? 00:38:40 Speaker 4: How are you doing? Madison? 00:38:42 Speaker 9: I'm done? 00:38:43 Speaker 5: Sign. 00:38:43 Speaker 9: I got a couple of questions. One, what how did the Valpole game come about? Was Mark Pope put one of the coach? Uh friends with one of the head coaches? And then two, Uh, what's it gonna take for us to go bowling in football? I know we're not having a. 00:39:02 Speaker 4: Very good year, all right, that's appreciating. We'll get all right, appreciate it. Do the basketball. 00:39:09 Speaker 5: Why how we added Valpo? I don't know how Valpo became the team. They are one of the three teams in the BB and United tip Off Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism, But I don't know how they were selected. I don't know if there was a play in or how they qualified. I don't know of any Pope Valpo connections. 00:39:26 Speaker 4: I don't either. 00:39:27 Speaker 5: I mentioned earlier their coach is uh former Illinois player Roger Powell Jr. I don't know if there's any connections there, but no, I don't. I don't have the answer for Valpo. 00:39:34 Speaker 4: And what's it gonna take for the tekety football team to go bowling? 00:39:38 Speaker 5: Win more game, three more wins? 00:39:39 Speaker 4: What's gonna take? 00:39:40 Speaker 5: I mean, we all know it's right there in front of us. I guess you could take one more loss, but other than that, you gotta win. 00:39:45 Speaker 4: You gotta go three and one in your last four games. Yeah, that's the script, and you can start it off with Florida on Saturday. We're gonna talk about that. Cash just walked in, so we're gonna get into the weeds about UK football. To get his take on what he's seen so far and the rest of the season with you know, semed to be a little more optimism. I think going around now after they beat Auburn last weekend uh with me, I. 00:40:06 Speaker 5: Think you're that's a small group. I don't know, there's a lot of optimism. But I actually feel good about the Florida game, I really do. I'm still down on the overall operation. I was happy they got the win at Auburn and oddly feel good going into this week. 00:40:17 Speaker 4: You got time for another call, Shannon. 00:40:19 Speaker 2: Yep, let's go to mo. 00:40:21 Speaker 4: Mo, go ahead, MO. 00:40:23 Speaker 7: I was just listening to truth. Apparently he ain't right on nothing because Roger Bird is from Corba. 00:40:28 Speaker 6: He's not Fromerson. 00:40:30 Speaker 5: I knew. 00:40:30 Speaker 4: I thought he was from Corban, but I thought maybe there was another Roger Bird he was talking about from Henderson. Is that it all right? Appreciate the phone call. 00:40:42 Speaker 5: At a lot of region to talk over here. 00:40:44 Speaker 4: Yeah, the Bird family down in Corbyn definitely very famous and then Roger Bird probably their best player they ever come out of Corbyn. Thought maybe there might be another Roger Bird he was talking about. 00:40:52 Speaker 5: It didn't know, Well, that takes a hit with truth's credibility because I was actually going to defend him about the tickets that he said, uh Matt promised, But you know, if he's just making up players from Henderson, I don't know if I can believe him on the ticket thing either. 00:41:04 Speaker 4: And then before we leave and have good cash, join of Shan, let's play this Tony Romo thing real quick. Okay, if you haven't heard it, Tony Romo during his Sunday NFL game Primetime game, had a moment. I don't know what's the best way to put it. You've you've not heard this yet. 00:41:19 Speaker 5: I worked for the NFL and recorded Cover zero just yesterday and don't even know what you're talking about. 00:41:23 Speaker 4: Well, this is something you may have never heard during the NFL broadcast before. So Shan, let's go ahead and hear this is Tony Romo. He's fine, and you'll see right here. 00:41:33 Speaker 2: Paul's and then another hold right there. 00:41:36 Speaker 5: I think it was see all right. 00:41:45 Speaker 4: I don't know.
