[SPEAKER_00]: middle-clinty at the age of eleven was like I'm watching this movie and I was like this sucks this is so bad I hate this so bad and then my mother picked me up she's like how is the movie I like it was terrible why did wear that come on in welcome to my dad I'm Kelly my friend Stacey London we're doing a show [SPEAKER_00]: where we watch it and say shit exactly that's what we like to do we no longer comment on actual people style anymore because we've grown as people and also the world has changed but we realize that we can still say shit about characters about fictional people so [SPEAKER_00]: We're doing this series. [SPEAKER_00]: We're having a great time with it. [SPEAKER_00]: And today is a very special episode because we're doing scenes dealers. [SPEAKER_00]: We're not going through a TV show or movie. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to choose each are three favorite looks from a movie. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, leading lady in a movie who has stayed. [SPEAKER_00]: with us the entire time. [SPEAKER_00]: When we saw them on the screen the first time they literally took our breath away and now they live rent free in our mind. [SPEAKER_01]: And the issue is just three was really hard. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know if these are the top three of the top three but I had so many choices. [SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like [SPEAKER_01]: are there other scene stilers? [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure. [SPEAKER_01]: Did we choose these for specific reason? [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: These women continue to impact us. [SPEAKER_00]: I will say that I think my three are my real top three scenes. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh God, I can all time. [SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't do my top three. [SPEAKER_01]: It will true scene stilers because we're doing the film. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I tell you what, like for example, would you put Michelle Fifeher [SPEAKER_01]: What am I going to put what I put at the number one of all number one's Catherine Geneva in the hunger? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we're doing the whole movie and let me tell you those looks are so good. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's a whole episode. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: So these are my real three and these are my fake three bullshit three. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm excited. [SPEAKER_00]: Nonetheless. [SPEAKER_01]: None of the less as it might, so like I chose dogs. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, these are great scenes together. [SPEAKER_00]: I know your scenes killers are in the orphaned. [SPEAKER_01]: And as our viewers, and I will say Clinton, I do think that these really do reflect your top level, top three, two, one. [SPEAKER_01]: So you taste in an obsession, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: So you want to see her? [SPEAKER_00]: Am I starting? [SPEAKER_00]: I thought you're starting. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm happy to start. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: At number three, guys, I do not want hate around this. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: First of all, we ranked them because we ranked them. [SPEAKER_01]: And I telling you why we ranked them, how we ranked them, it was emotional impact. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: On-site, emotional impact. [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking, you know, raw feeling. [SPEAKER_01]: Raw, like, get to the subconscious right away. [SPEAKER_01]: Share in Moonstruck. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, all of Moonstruck she is amazing, but when she is sitting by the fire, in a white slip and a black heart again, having had her hair and makeup done getting ready for a night at the opera with Nicolas Cage. [SPEAKER_01]: Really, I mean, she, it's almost like she can't believe she's so beautiful. [SPEAKER_00]: I will say that it's probably one of the most impressive movie makeovers of all time, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, very true. [SPEAKER_00]: She starts out as like a little bit of a plain Jay and accountant and turns into a va-va-va boom, bam. [SPEAKER_01]: And now she does this dire hair. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, dire hair, but the curls are a little bit more defined, right? [SPEAKER_00]: True, much bigger. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and I love the way that she's done the eye makeup, because she's got deep scent eyes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she does. [SPEAKER_00]: She actually plays up, even makes them even more. [SPEAKER_00]: She makes them look even more deep. [SPEAKER_01]: And she does that with pink eyeshadow, isn't that fabulous? [SPEAKER_01]: I love pink eyeshadow, I don't have deep eyes, but it looks great with brown eyes. [SPEAKER_01]: I really love that contrast. [SPEAKER_00]: And that shade of lipstick, really, it's just perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: It's perfect when she's by the fire. [SPEAKER_01]: She's like caressing. [SPEAKER_01]: Remember how people used to say, why are you smelling the shoe and what not to wear open? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't feel like I was ever smelling it, but okay, whatever, the way she fondles that shoe is how I felt about the shoe. [SPEAKER_01]: She gets fondle. [SPEAKER_01]: I get sniffed. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, just so you all know if you're watching a listing when we did what not to wear. [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes stay safe. [SPEAKER_00]: We have when we explain the mannequins what they were supposed to be wearing and what's supposed to be look more shopping. [SPEAKER_00]: We'd have to go and pick up the shoe and it required a deep knee bend and sometimes we look at each other like I just don't have it. [SPEAKER_00]: Who's picking up the shoe? [SPEAKER_00]: All right, well, here she doesn't close up. [SPEAKER_00]: Nice bushy brow, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a bushy brow. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is not a 90s. [SPEAKER_01]: This was 87, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So this was still when we had big. [SPEAKER_01]: We had big hair. [SPEAKER_01]: We had big sleeves. [SPEAKER_01]: We had big outfits. [SPEAKER_01]: This coat, everything about this look is just stunning. [SPEAKER_00]: And the brook shield brow. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't forget about Brooke Shields. [SPEAKER_01]: Brooke Shields. [SPEAKER_01]: The way Nicholas Cage looks at Cher. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: Is really the way you want somebody to look at you. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he wants her. [SPEAKER_01]: He looks hungry. [SPEAKER_00]: They want to do it. [SPEAKER_00]: Wow. [SPEAKER_00]: He wants to do it with her. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: This is a fantastic look. [SPEAKER_00]: is her her coat like beat it or something. [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it's beat it or teared and she takes it off when they walk inside to the opera house, which is so stunning and beautiful and looks so similar today, which is amazing. [SPEAKER_01]: This strapless black A-line dress look house. [SPEAKER_01]: any of those cabs aren't just doing it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, take tight with a little red matching shoe. [SPEAKER_01]: Like the red is like matching the lip. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's so good. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad she had a little bit of shine in that and the coat. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what, I actually think the dress is burgundy. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a burgundy velvet, but you can't see it in this light. [SPEAKER_00]: they're going to the opera in New York City. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I will say this, unfortunately, people don't dress like this at the opera anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: I went to see La Boe, I'm not all that long ago. [SPEAKER_01]: Really? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: No, Timothy Schelmese doesn't have any cares about the opera. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a care Timothy Schelmese thinks about the opera to be honest with you. [SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, there were some people dressed up like this and some people were just wearing jeans and whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, we talked about the pajamaification of America at 25 years ago. [SPEAKER_00]: You sure did. [SPEAKER_01]: Where do you go to dress up now? [SPEAKER_00]: I honestly don't even know. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you got to put others somebody's wedding. [SPEAKER_01]: Getting this dressed up for any occasion is so delightful. [SPEAKER_00]: Really delightful. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that is a worthy number three. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't you think? [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, gorgeous. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, everybody was talking about this at the time by the, for the record. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, like remember that when this movie came out, everybody was blown away by this look and for good reason. [SPEAKER_00]: It is so impactful. [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I could get my hair to do this. [SPEAKER_01]: I really think I would I would actually try that now at my age I remember somebody saying to me you remind me a little bit of share and I thought oh my god What would I need to do? [SPEAKER_01]: Well first I'd have to have a brow lift and then I probably have to do a nose job But if I did the hair Totally right [SPEAKER_01]: That's where we need to go. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, remember the sunny and share show? [SPEAKER_00]: That was some good show. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: I would kill for one of those dresses. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, fantastic. [SPEAKER_00]: Bob Mackie. [SPEAKER_00]: OK. Moving on to my number three. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I have talked about this woman's look a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: I read number three. [SPEAKER_00]: Only because we decided on the criteria of which one made the most impact on you at the time that you saw. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, emotional. [SPEAKER_00]: emotional impacts. [SPEAKER_00]: So my number three is Wendy Torrance played by Shelley Devol in the shining in the 80s. [SPEAKER_00]: Now this outfit right here. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay watch this watch her work this mother fucking outfit right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: The scarf and the cigarette as accessory. [SPEAKER_01]: fantastic and the scarf colors matching so perfectly with the embroidery in this yellow what 40s or 50s jacket it's like it's Mexican yeah right i think it has like um applique on it that's of um cacti and others sort of self-wester's scene oh so it might not be a Mexican it could be a it might be a Mexican look i think it's just some braille under yeah uh the [SPEAKER_00]: It's a remarkable piece and the way it is Accessorized with the scarf. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's just let's just put this in context. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, context for a second. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, she and her husband who is slowly going insane and their son have been locked in a lodge Snowed into a lodge for more than a month now at this point. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay? [SPEAKER_00]: There is no there's nowhere nobody to come save them. [SPEAKER_00]: Not anywhere close. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, all those scatmen crawlers does but so she got up that morning and she was like I'm gonna tie this scarf around my neck not necessarily just to keep me warm, but I'm gonna do the jauntiest scarf in the history of scarfs [SPEAKER_01]: But it took Kate for her to do a John T. Scarf. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not okay for Joe Beth Williams, even though her child has had his arm broken in the past by her husband and also traumatized. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're alone in the middle of nowhere, but she still gets dressed. [SPEAKER_00]: There alone in the middle of nowhere, she still gets dressed, but at this point, the shit has not hit the fan just yet. [SPEAKER_01]: Not yet. [SPEAKER_00]: No, you're in a close. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she should be able to feel the vibes at this point, but still she's got faith that everything is going to work out just fine. [SPEAKER_00]: So she ties that scarf so perfectly around her neck. [SPEAKER_00]: And then you'll notice that she holds the cigarette in the opposite hand of the scarf. [SPEAKER_00]: Because if she had the cigarette in the same hand of the scarf, she would be all over. [SPEAKER_00]: It would be a balanced. [SPEAKER_00]: It would be a balanced. [SPEAKER_01]: It would be absolutely too much weight on the left. [SPEAKER_00]: The symmetry of this also just can be appreciate the straight line of the gene here. [SPEAKER_01]: It's an excellent gene and that gene literally is on every single shopping list for spring. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It's back. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: When I saw this, I was like, man, that bitch knows how to access her eyes. [SPEAKER_01]: And I got to tell you, Clinton, I have seen this movie quite a fair amount of times. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I will always know that, you know, like oversized cowl, turtle next sweater and that sort of thing. [SPEAKER_01]: But I, [SPEAKER_01]: have not truly clocked how good this outfit is. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it is remarkable. [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like BODY. [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it could have been made yesterday for 2026. [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it was handmade. [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it's a true vintage piece. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's really this is some custom [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, do you feel the chills, feel the chills now? [SPEAKER_00]: Because you know what I just noticed for the first time, look at the print of the scarf, okay, and look at the tile work on the floor, and then look behind where the doors are, the work around the doors, the patterning around the doors. [SPEAKER_00]: This is when the costume designer and the set designer are besties, they have meetings and they talk about shit so you get a scene that looks like this. [SPEAKER_01]: So instead of matching the background, you go. [SPEAKER_00]: your go exact. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: It just all works. [SPEAKER_00]: It really does. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the yellow, the pop of yellow in these browns and reds is kind of just genius as a shock. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally. [SPEAKER_00]: And also, just can we appreciate the patch pocket, the curve. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_01]: With cacti on them, there's really a lot to say about this. [SPEAKER_01]: out fit much more so than share in a slip. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you know what I'm saying? [SPEAKER_01]: The impact is real, it's the same, but for very different reasons. [SPEAKER_00]: And even her hair, it's like she got the wispy bang going on and she's got this such a perfectly placed ponytail going in the back. [SPEAKER_00]: I just love the height of the ponytail. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, at the reason he's also, she's got bangs and she's got the layer. [SPEAKER_01]: So she's got a nice whisp going on, right? [SPEAKER_01]: She's not like me with one length of hair. [SPEAKER_01]: But I also think that her hair is quite thin, which is why you could get it that high with that kind of twist to it. [SPEAKER_01]: If she had more hair, I think it would be really, really hard. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like everything works out perfectly. [SPEAKER_03]: Perfectly. [SPEAKER_01]: They did the right pony for the right texture of hair. [SPEAKER_01]: They did the right line for the right body shape, like everything about this works for me. [SPEAKER_00]: Proposal, give a little bravo to the costume designer, Malena Kenanero. [SPEAKER_01]: Malena Kenanero. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right. [SPEAKER_00]: And Shelley, please rest. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, may you rest. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Our number two, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Number two, don't get upset. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I knew this was going to be controversial, but I also knew that I could not choose a living in John instead of you. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And when she sings cool writer with that eyeliner and that red lip and that bump inner hair such a good bump a black V neck and a black skinny Jean I literally lost my mind. [SPEAKER_01]: I saw that boot. [SPEAKER_01]: I saw her swing her leg over a ladder and I thought, [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how anybody gets away with looking like that. [SPEAKER_00]: I totally understand where you're coming from because to see this now, it's like, wow, I mean, Michelle Fiverr, ex-school is it? [SPEAKER_01]: And like, shining from the inside. [SPEAKER_01]: And like, you never see her this kind of playful and happy she did all these kinds of things, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right. [SPEAKER_01]: Here she is, like, smirking while she's singing? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, keep in mind what I'm about to say, I do not want to yuck your yam or anything like that. [SPEAKER_00]: But I just want to say, from my point of view, when I hear this movie come out, [SPEAKER_01]: 1982, it came out right when Poltergeist came out, I guess. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess so. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: So. [SPEAKER_01]: Or the year before, Poltergeist. [SPEAKER_00]: The movie Greece, the original movie Greece, meant so much to me, like it was, it changed my life in the way that I was obsessed with the original Greece. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I fell in love with the living, and the original Sandy, who was played by a living in John. [SPEAKER_01]: And you love Sandy when she was a good girl. [SPEAKER_01]: And I only love Sandy when she was a bad guy. [SPEAKER_00]: I really got to tell you something that you should rethink that. [SPEAKER_00]: You should absolutely rethink liking bad Sandy more than good Sandy. [SPEAKER_00]: But I know why. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because you're going to tell me she changed her style for a man. [SPEAKER_00]: Man, even at the age of what was I? [SPEAKER_00]: Seven, eight, at the age of eight years old. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you just changed your look for a man? [SPEAKER_00]: What the fuck? [SPEAKER_00]: I want my money back. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean Terry is a good mother. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Terry is Terry was a very good mother. [SPEAKER_01]: Terry made you respect women young and I am here for it. [SPEAKER_01]: I get it. [SPEAKER_01]: I really do, but I'm just saying from a style perspective, I wanted those black then stretch pants so bad. [SPEAKER_01]: I got them in purple and I also had candies so when I tell you that this look for me is the bad sandy look because she is wearing the pink lady jacket inside out so that it's black that and instead of the pink satin on the inside she looks like a bad girl and I guess I just always wanted to be the bad girl not the good one. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't get it. [SPEAKER_00]: And look, Michelle fiber looks amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: She's dancing, she's moving, she looks happy, the hair is blowing. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, everything about this is fantastic. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't believe I didn't like it when it saw it the first time I couldn't help it. [SPEAKER_01]: The prejudice. [SPEAKER_00]: Is there a, I had a prejudice against her? [SPEAKER_00]: But now I'm old in that prejudice because I'm a huge Michelle fiber fan. [SPEAKER_01]: And also, I didn't know, like, she's got rhythm. [SPEAKER_01]: She can dance, like, she's just this moldy talent. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, she is a scenes dealer for sure, and of course we have song the variety show number that they do. [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking I might even show her in the Christmas tree outfit because she looks so beautiful, but it doesn't compare it to the cool girl. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the cool writer, the outfit, I'm sorry, she's, she wants a cool writer, she's a cool writer, she's a cool dancer, everything about her is cool, and she's got legs. [SPEAKER_00]: But days, all right, Michelle, but we love you. [SPEAKER_00]: We love you. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, my number two, and this is going by the emotional impact that this movie had on me or this character had on me at the time, is the character of Lisa Fremont played by Grace Kelly, [SPEAKER_00]: in 1954's rear window. [SPEAKER_00]: I just want to show you this when she's going around the room. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look and changing on the lights. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you got to be honest here and say Jimmy Stewart certainly looks like he wants to eat her. [SPEAKER_00]: Where's that coming from? [SPEAKER_00]: The fact that they just said dinner? [SPEAKER_01]: Nick Cage. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to tell you. [SPEAKER_00]: Cheers. [SPEAKER_00]: What happens right before? [SPEAKER_01]: Am I? [SPEAKER_01]: Am I the only one that understands my logic? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but just right before the scene, they served. [SPEAKER_00]: They have lobster again. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: OK. No, no. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, he did. [SPEAKER_01]: The lobster, right? [SPEAKER_01]: But stop. [SPEAKER_00]: But stop right here, a vision in black and white with a red lip. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there is literally nothing wrong with this outfit at all. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's start from the bottom. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got a strappy, sit black sandal. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Going up from there without a hat. [SPEAKER_01]: Is it a healer? [SPEAKER_01]: Is it a flat? [SPEAKER_00]: It's I think it's real. [SPEAKER_01]: It would be revolutionary. [SPEAKER_00]: It would be, but I pretty sure she's wearing a small heel here. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the very full diatmanous skirt in white with almost like a pattern like branches coming down from the waist, and that's done in black over the fullness of the skirt. [SPEAKER_00]: She's got a skinny little belt in a shiny black. [SPEAKER_01]: A knatched. [SPEAKER_00]: Snatched. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the top of it is a deep wide V in a short sleeve in black. [SPEAKER_01]: It almost looks like a leotard. [SPEAKER_01]: It almost looks like a bat. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it went especially when you get the Declatage and you have the all of that clavicle. [SPEAKER_00]: She's also wearing white opera gloves. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: She's clutching a black square bag. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's wearing a pearl choker necklace with matching pearl earrings and the red, blood-red lip. [SPEAKER_00]: sticking out like just like boom coming at you. [SPEAKER_00]: I just think that this is perfection. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure this is E to the head, of course it's E to the head. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean this is also 1950s woman, but this is just it's like artwork to me. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it is our work. [SPEAKER_01]: And to be honest with you, 1947, right? [SPEAKER_01]: That's Christian Dior with the new look. [SPEAKER_00]: Look. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: In 1947, when you look, came in. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is the epitome of that silhouette. [SPEAKER_01]: And what I was going to say is that, you know, there's something about this deep, deep, deep that I find really attractive. [SPEAKER_01]: The problem, [SPEAKER_01]: as we know, right, is not everybody can pull that off with to the same effect, because she's got such a small frame widening her shoulders with the width and the volume of the skirt really works. [SPEAKER_01]: But if she wasn't so petite, I think it would be very, very hard to put her in something that tight. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think they made her look wider and bigger by giving her that V because she's so petite and it gives even more impact to the outfit, right? [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, [SPEAKER_01]: It is elegant. [SPEAKER_01]: It's what you think elegance is supposed to look like. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know what, this is a lesson in proportions really, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Because the proportion of the skirt has to be balanced by the proportion of the top. [SPEAKER_00]: And you've got this all this white and you've got a little bit of black, but how do you make it look balanced? [SPEAKER_00]: You widen the silhouette on the neckline. [SPEAKER_00]: And you keep it, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And now she is wearing the same pearl necklace that Tengina from Poltergeist War. [SPEAKER_01]: Little tighter, a little higher up on her neck. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if Tengina could get up that high. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Tengina doesn't quite have as much neck as Kelly does here, but like look at, I mean, look at the makeup. [SPEAKER_00]: She's that's actually more color into the eye than I remember. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But this is a fantastic movie. [SPEAKER_00]: Grace Kelly is wonderful in it. [SPEAKER_00]: She goes on a little adventure later on in the movie. [SPEAKER_00]: That's really, she wants to prove that she is an adventurous type to get Jimmy Stewart to marry her. [SPEAKER_01]: Another look changing her oh, yeah, she does but she doesn't change her way It's her way. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: She opens herself up to exciting experiences for a man. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's different than wearing hot pants Okay, all right. [SPEAKER_00]: That was my number two. [SPEAKER_01]: Well an excellent number two [SPEAKER_00]: Great. [SPEAKER_00]: You're number one. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: In the movie, The Grifters, which you may or may not remember, this came out in 1990. [SPEAKER_01]: Stephen Freers was the director and the writer was Donald E. Westlake and the costume designer was Richard Bruno. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, Richard Bruno. [SPEAKER_01]: had this genius idea. [SPEAKER_01]: There is a red dress that we see a net betting in that is one of the first of all. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's just a body out of yaddi dress. [SPEAKER_01]: It's Airvay, LaJay before he was around, right? [SPEAKER_01]: And it is super tight fitting. [SPEAKER_01]: you cannot wear a bra with this dress. [SPEAKER_01]: And I just could not believe how beautiful it looked on a net bending. [SPEAKER_01]: It sculptural on her. [SPEAKER_01]: She's wearing that bold cup. [SPEAKER_01]: Everything about this with the short spiky hair really felt like strong independent women. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you think about the accessory? [SPEAKER_01]: I love that almost looks like I'll support you that kind of cupped to me. [SPEAKER_01]: That big silver. [SPEAKER_01]: I love the earrings. [SPEAKER_01]: I think the simplicity of it really speaks to the architecture of the dress. [SPEAKER_01]: The bag doesn't work at all. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why it's on her shoulder. [SPEAKER_01]: But you need a clutch with this dress. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't be like hauling a kid over here. [SPEAKER_01]: your shoulder. [SPEAKER_00]: You can do crossbody here. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally need a cut. [SPEAKER_01]: But not only does it look incredible on her. [SPEAKER_01]: Many scenes later, it looks amazing on Angelica Houston. [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, whoa, you pulled that trick twice. [SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty impressive. [SPEAKER_01]: Same dress. [SPEAKER_01]: different actress looks just as stunning. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, when are they going to start making that dress now? [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was 1990. [SPEAKER_01]: It was 36 years ago. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but he's nobody's bringing back now. [SPEAKER_00]: I got to tell you though. [SPEAKER_00]: Somebody should because I know if you walked into a party wearing that dress, you would turn heads today. [SPEAKER_00]: All these years later, 36 years later. [SPEAKER_01]: No, and that's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: There are pieces. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think the reason that I had this hand to emotional impact on me was because I thought it was sexy. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was simple. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought the color was beautiful. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought she and Angelica both equally look beautiful in it. [SPEAKER_01]: But even more importantly, it's to hate with me, right? [SPEAKER_01]: 36 years. [SPEAKER_01]: And when we started talking about scene Steelers, I was like, that red dress. [SPEAKER_01]: Those are the things that kind of stand the test of time because you love them, not because they're necessarily trends or that you're ever going to see anybody in them or, you know, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: But they can inspire the way you want to feel. [SPEAKER_01]: And that to me is an amazing impression. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't think I ever gave it the amount of consideration when I was watching the movie. [SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, it is, it's a really special dress. [SPEAKER_00]: The fact that it works on those two women equally well. [SPEAKER_00]: I love the back detail. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the back detail is what makes the dress. [SPEAKER_01]: What I think makes the front industry is the drape and how low the armhole is. [SPEAKER_01]: So you have to get that drape. [SPEAKER_01]: You cannot wear a bribe. [SPEAKER_01]: You got titties. [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, you're shit out of luck here. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you see a lot of side boob in this. [SPEAKER_01]: You see a lot of side boob and a lot of nip. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, hey, it's like nobody was using high wood's best kept secret. [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's it's tasteful nip. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's tasteful nip and Angelic Houston is supposed to be junkie sex mom, but she supposedly had him when she was like 14. [SPEAKER_01]: So they're kind of like weirdly into each other. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, like, a lot of it. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of it. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Time for my number one. [SPEAKER_00]: I have to set the scene. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the scene, please. [SPEAKER_00]: So the year was 1980, which makes me 11 years old. [SPEAKER_01]: Me too. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And I say to my mother, I'm young and love with Olivia Newton John, like in love with Olivia Newton. [SPEAKER_00]: I hear that she's doing another movie. [SPEAKER_00]: Calls after Greece after Greece yeah, so I say mom can you take me to the movies? [SPEAKER_00]: I want to go see the first met in a first showing of Xanado on Saturday So I go to the movie theater. [SPEAKER_00]: I think there's like an 1130 or 12 o'clock show This is when your mom used to just drop you off right couldn't get a friend to go to see Xanado with me I went by myself Nobody has wanted to see it [SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sad we weren't friends so my mother dropped me off as anodoo by myself I pay my child's feet, you know, it's like a dollar fifty four fifty I get my milk duds and I sit down in the theater at me only one And I'm so fucking excited to see Zanodoo. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so you had a private screening [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of did. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: So then, about four minutes into it, this scene happens as a mural on the wall. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a mural of Zeus's daughters. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: The music. [SPEAKER_01]: The music. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And the mural starts to come to life. [SPEAKER_00]: And these women become silhouetted in neon one at a time. [SPEAKER_00]: shake their hair out, release the stiffness from their necks, and they are wearing these drapey diatvenous floral printed dresses with lots of fabric in the arms and extra fabric panels in the skirt, and in the sashes, and they are looking at you like, where alive? [SPEAKER_00]: The song I'm alive is playing, and they're doing these dance moves and little clinty. [SPEAKER_00]: is having a non-sexual orgasm at this point like I'm just like what the fuck is happening on this screen like I can't take this right now. [SPEAKER_00]: I was in love with each one of these women one more than the next I'll tell you about the one I was the most obsessed with other than the living in John. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: They're just dancing. [SPEAKER_00]: Look at the I mean you know the choreography here is fine. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's modern dance. [SPEAKER_01]: They're all great there. [SPEAKER_01]: And you can tell they're all classically trained dancers. [SPEAKER_00]: They're beautiful. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this black woman with the not on on top of her head. [SPEAKER_00]: I had never seen a black woman with a hair like that. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, what is on top of her head? [SPEAKER_00]: And she's fabulous. [SPEAKER_00]: This woman now, I think, looks like looks like Lady Gaga. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, definitely. [SPEAKER_01]: You're a manata. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally, right? [SPEAKER_00]: And then, Olivia Newton, John, as Kira, she starts to come alive. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why she does this movement with the hands in front of the face. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that she was directed poorly. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Olivia's like, I'm alive. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, now I'm watching this again. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, what the fuck? [SPEAKER_01]: Who told her to do that? [SPEAKER_00]: Right? [SPEAKER_00]: Why are you doing this? [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, she's the only one who's surprised. [SPEAKER_00]: But she's alive, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: But the rest of them are like, I knew this was gonna happen. [SPEAKER_00]: I have a dance for it. [SPEAKER_00]: But there she is. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm alive, living in John, not a train dancer, but she's got, she can move. [SPEAKER_00]: She's got, she's got the move, she's on her foot. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she can sing dance and act. [SPEAKER_00]: So this is also interesting, right? [SPEAKER_00]: This is like a peasant dress, a peasant style dress. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: In a luxurious fabric. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Like why are the daughters of Zeus? [SPEAKER_00]: like wearing peasant dresses. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, you're royalty. [SPEAKER_00]: You're right, you could be wearing whatever you want. [SPEAKER_00]: But I just think this is, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: There's just something, like when you're talking about a scene that stayed with me, this really stayed with me. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I love that a do and I don't remember this scene. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, is that fucking crazy or what? [SPEAKER_00]: That's fucking crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just interesting to me that I don't remember this, especially when they are outlined in neon pink. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't remember that, you don't remember when they run, they all run off and they, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, they all, [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: There are the music for all of the artists. [SPEAKER_01]: Is that what we're supposed to understand? [SPEAKER_00]: There's a muse for everything. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a muse for the dude. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Look, this whole plot falls apart so quickly. [SPEAKER_00]: Look at her. [SPEAKER_00]: Look at her and yellow. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And our roller skates. [SPEAKER_01]: And then this dude, I was like, did somebody not get Andy Gibb? [SPEAKER_00]: Andy Gibb was not available. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, we don't have to talk about the rest of the movie because little Clintie at the age of 11 was like, I'm not saying this movie. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, this sucks. [SPEAKER_00]: This is so bad. [SPEAKER_00]: I hate this so bad. [SPEAKER_00]: And then my mother picked me up. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, how is the movie? [SPEAKER_00]: I was terrible. [SPEAKER_00]: Why didn't wear that? [SPEAKER_01]: But. [SPEAKER_01]: But weren't you like, mom, mom, mom, mom, the music. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd by the time, I mean, the music this scene, which lasts about a minute, I don't know how. [SPEAKER_01]: I need stayed with you. [SPEAKER_00]: Stay with me. [SPEAKER_00]: But the rest of the movie is so bad for me. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so bad for me. [SPEAKER_01]: It's so bad for the scene with Jean Kelly. [SPEAKER_01]: And at that point, he was getting older. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'll never forget because his voice is not as strong as hers by that point. [SPEAKER_01]: And the song is so lovely. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's about him remembering his love. [SPEAKER_01]: And she looks like his love from the war. [SPEAKER_01]: His voice is a weak and I just try it was like this is it said. [SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to be You know who's getting old at that point, but he gives it he really really did so I will call that another a great podcast called how did this get made? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we love them. [SPEAKER_00]: They do an episode on Zanna do the movie which is hilarious Which is why I know about the podcast because you sent it to me and said you've got to listen to one on Zanna do [SPEAKER_00]: It's such a great episode of how to this kid made. [SPEAKER_00]: So watch that, everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, those are our top three each. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a total of six and seen Steelers leading ladies. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: And we will definitely do more scenes dealing for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: For sure. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're more leading ladies in our future as our movies.
