They've hit leadoff homers back to back Bush and h Tucker to lead off the game. I mean that game was over in the first inning. It was two nothing in the first two hitters of the game, and you tell that game was pretty much over. But was look good. The Red Sox, though, are surprisingly good, So we'll see, it's gonna be interesting the next ten days. The Red Sox last last lost last night to the Phillies on that weird catcher's interference play. But this next ten to twelve days will tell a lot about the Red Sox.

Why is it because like I guess it's maybe because of what Scott said, and he throws from a lower angle and he really gets behind it. But we were watching the game in the Red Sox and they were taking a pitch and they were behind oh one, and then they had to get the split and then it's like oh two, and then they were like, all right, high fast, Why would you not just go up and say, our first heater I get. I'm trying to jump it, get on top of it and see if I can go deep because he's a fly ball guy.

He's not a ratic. He's around the zone. You feel like you know you have, You feel like you're not intimidated. When you seven the box, you know you're gonna get a good swing off. He's just one of those guys it's hard to square up.

Brandon Woodriff is on fire right off the get go. Coming back from major shoulder surgery. It took some time, aj he had some setbacks. He was just on our show the other day, but it's almost as if I mentioned this yesterday. They picked up two number one starters in Woodriff and Misowski to add to what was already somewhat solid rotation, and then the offense has started to pick up the pace. So they shut out the Mariners last night, and they keep rolling.

Listen, you just mentioned I was in the Cubs game the other day and I think Ken, it was either Ken or Adam one of them, asked about the Brewers and councils, like They're pitching is just so good. It just keeps getting better. Freddy Parult is having an unbelievable year. McGill's having a great year in the back end. They just keep finding guys and you bring back Woodroff and Misowski as he keeps going. This is a daunting task. Now they hit a little bit, They've gotten some of their guys going. You mentioned where Teazes started to swing the bat, yell, he's been doing good. Controversi has kind of turned it around a little bit. So, I mean, this team looks good right now, and I mean they're not gonna keep winning every single game. They're gonna lose eventually. But here's my thing about the Milwaukee Brewers. Nobody saw him here. Nobody saw him here last ye except for maybe Cratzy, But restled. You better watch out because if you go into a series and you get Freddy p Miserowski Woodrof with their bullpen in a short series especially, it gonna be tough to deal with.

But KP for me with Milwaukee, it's love averages at this point that they're able to withstand the superstars leaving. They're able to grow pitching right, develop it both within and even the guys they acquire often turned into golds. They've done that with their bullpen. It's always guys that nobody's ever heard of. And then here comes, you know, some young position players that they were able to develop. So the perfect mix is going on here right now. Pat Murphy plays the whole. Nobody knows us. We're average. Joe's kind of thing really well with them. What do you think of Milwaukee?

Speaker 4: We got to start talking about them in the same breadth as like the Houston Astros. It's just whatever they do seems to work. It's got to be a culture thing. It's an organizational thing. They're really good, like you mentioned, drafting and developing players, especially pitching. But they always find the guys that no one's ever heard of. And you know, they have guys in their bullpen that I couldn't even name who they are, and you go face him, You're like, this is the best picture I've ever seen and it's their seventh eighth sixth inning, their mop up guy. They just continue to find really good arms, really good players, undervalued players, guys that have just kind of bounced around from team to team. They find a home in Milwaukee. And someone's got to do with Pat Murphy too. He's just an awesome dude to be around. He's probably a great motivator. He probably keeps things light. And then you got some great leaders at the top in Yellie and Contrera's. It seemed like a great place to play, unbelievable stadium, great fan base. But they're obviously doing something right there.

Speaker 2: KP hold on. Let's slow down on the Astros comparison here because they got to win a World Series first before we can lump them because the Astros have won a couple. Now, I know they've done a great job with the Brewers getting to the postseason, but they haven't had a ton of success in the postseason. So until they get to the World Series and win the World Series and go to the LCS for how many every years in a row, the Astros were in it until last year. They're good, but the Astros have been even better, which is what's amazing.

They have players lead, they have superstars leave, and then the next guy just comes in and fills the spot. They lose guys, it seems like every day and they're starting rotation and the next guy comes up and they're just as good. They're great, and they just never seem to miss a beat. That's kind of how the Brewers have been, at least over the last couple of years. But to your point, they do have to go out and go a little bit deeper in the playoffs to kind of be in the same and obviously win it, to be in the same breath as the Houston Astros.

Speaker 1: So what are we doing at the deadline for Milwaukee Aja, They could use a little more punch from the left side of the infield. There's not a lot of punch to acquire on the left side of the infield. The name that brought up over and over for the best probably bad available at the deadline as Gino Suarez, but they're not necessarily trading him if they're hovering around the five hundred mark, So it might be difficult to find some really suitable Plan B and C options for Milwaukee, right.

They won't maybe, I mean, we don't know what they're gonna have to give up because the Yankees and some other teams are really in on him too, So with the price, just get driven out of their price arrangement. Yeah, they need somebody on the left side of the infant. I don't know who that could possibly be. I really don't because Suarz is the name that everyone looks at. But I mean, there's gonna be somebody traded, and KP knows us too that we're not expecting it's gonna There's gonna be a shortstop or a third baseman or somebody that's gonna get traded, and you're gonna be like, wait, no one saw that. Maybe Kenzy's a coming, but us normal folk aren't going to see that coming, right, So I don't know who that name is, but something's gonna go down, and it might be like the Brewers trade from a position of strength and maybe a bullpen piece or a starter to another team to get a maybe someone that's under control that we haven't thought about. I don't know who that might be, but we'll see what they need one more bad at least for because I'll tell you what. There's a guy we haven't even talked about, Abner Rebay. Have you seen his numbers and his stuff he chunks up there every day? Are you kidding me? With that stuff that he throws like? That dude was unbelievable this year. Check out his numbers. Speaker 1: Yeah, I gave him an ounce of love yesterday when we were shouting out the bullpen that basically no one can name aside from possibly Trevor McGill at the back end closing things down. And also because you know he could be vocal at times and kind of speak his mind. But besides that, Yeah, your Reba has been a star for them. Mears the kid who they picked up last year around the trade deadline from Colorado. I mean, come on, most people probably saw that coming. Milwaukee very specifically targets a no name from Milwaukee, has good peripheral numbers. Shocker. Now he's really good out of the bullpen for them. Anyone else that we can think of, I mean, shortstop is even tougher to find for a first division replacement option. Joey Ortiz just hasn't hit.

Speaker 4: Feel like every every year someone gets traded or two players get traded that no one even knows is available. I would expect, you know, two or three of those names, you know, at the end of the trade deadline and you're like, never saw it coming. So maybe there's someone out there that you know, none of us are thinking about on the left side of the endfield, maybe a team that's in it or you know, gonna wait right up until the deadline to make a big move, probably someone under control that you don't expect getting traded. But it feels like Milwaukee's you know, it's their time to kind of, you know, maybe sell some of the prospects and go for it.

Speaker 1: This year, they might beef up the bullpen even more so too. I Mean, the thing that they have to figure out aja is how to win and get deep into the postseason. This group has to figure out how to get through the gauntlet of the National League. They're going to have to take down teams like the Phillies, Mets, Dodgers, et cetera in that National League side before they could even get to the World Series and think about winning one. And you're right, I mean, that's the big difference between the team like Milwaukee and Houston. Now Milwaukee has to do it with an even lower payroll than Houston, So that part's impressive for them to maintain winning every year and be in contention for a playoff spot, But they haven't done a lot of damage in the playoffs.

Speaker 2: That was yeah, that was kind of my point, like they've been great, they've been gotten, they've gone to the postseason. They I mean they listen, they lost a heartbreaker to the Mets last year when Peede Alonzo swinging just crushed their soul when he went opo off Devin Wims pitching like nobody had hit in like five years. So yeah, I mean, they've had some close calls. They've had opportunities to get there, but they just haven't gotten it done. So how do you take that next step? I think it's a cute story. It's a fun story. It's like the Twins for all those years right in the Al Central. They'd win the Central, they get there and they'd lose in the first round, but they'd always have to play the Yankees. They could never get over that hurdle. So it's one of those strange things about the Brewers. For some reason, as good as they are, they just can't figure out how to get deep into the World Series and possibly win one.

Jim Boden put out his intel from thirty Teams around the League Notes column in the past twenty four hours, and he talked about how they're looking to improve the left side of the infield. So he said they're among the teams who could be in play for Suarez, like we mentioned, but he did at least provide other names that are interesting. I don't know if any of them are realistic. He said they could be in play for Ryan McMahon of the Rockies. Obviously they have to let him go. That ownership group loves him. The Cardinals with noelan Arnatto and his full note trade clause.

He said that the Brewers have been linked to two speedy Marlins infielders Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez, both under a billion years of team control too. I mean yesterday, I don't.

Speaker 1: I mean, Otto Lopez is a fantastic defender. He's having a really good year. These are two Marlins players that have helped them stay away from being one of the terrible teams in baseball. I mean, the Marlins are better than the Braves record wise. Lopez about league gabbage batt ops plus at ninety eight from second base, where he was elite last year and this year at the position. And then for Xavier Edwards, I mean, he's one of the fastest players in the league. He's also right around the league average with the bat three point fifty eight on base percent, so he's getting on base thirty six percent at the time. He doesn't that much pop. And he'll steal thing about.

Speaker 2: Murph though, I'll tell you this right now. Murph will take a shortstop like Joey Ortiz that makes all the plays. He'll He'll listen. There are certain people out there Murph. I don't know how well KP's Murphy, but Murph is a pitching defense and he's an old school guy, right, Yeah, he loves homers. Everyone knowves homers except Kevin Sitzer. But listen, the bottom line is Murph wants a guy that will play shortstop and pick it. Willie Domins was great when he was sitting thirty homers for him, but Joey Ortiz makes all the plays defensively and whatever they get out now, in order for them to upgrade, it has to be a significant upgrade, right, Because Joey Ortiz is there for a long time. He's under control, So they're not just going to go out and be like, oh, let's go get a short stop for one year. That could stunt Joey Ortiz's development. They're gonna need a significant upgrade. And that's why a Gino Sporez works. Maybe McMahon ar and I was not going to Milwaukee. He wouldn't go to Houston. He's not going to Milwaukee.

But yes, even if they did acquire someone like that, that's not an impact bat. Those players are both brewers Ish players. For me, aj they both play I mean again, like I mentioned, Lopez is playing a lot of short stop this year too. They're both scrappy. They do a lot of the little things well. But I don't think that the Marlins are going to be trading away there five years of control type guys. We talked about Kyle Sowers yesterday and how that was shot down, and they're not going to deal him away after it sounded like they would be open to conversations, you know about the best plays to buy, sell, trade or look for that special card in your world. You see some players get some positive results. It should be a reminder of fans. It just you know, it's hard. I know what it's like to be a fan of other sports and other teams. But originally they misdiagnosed him, and I can only imagine when you get a diagnosis and then you're working your way back from rehab and really you shouldn't be working your way back yet, how much damage could be done.

NAT's nothing surprising there, and then possibly both Aja the Rays, the Guardians, the Cardinals, the Twins, the Rangers, the Royals, the Diamondbacks and the Angels.

Yes, The ones to me are they're intriguing are the buyers and sellers, possibly because like the Rays do a really good job of this of trying to thread the needle where they'll trade somebody, but they'll get somebody back that might not be as big of a name, but it fits the role that they need, right. Diamondbacks are the ones that, like they're they going to try and get rid of Gallon to bring back some other pieces, even Texas, Right, it wasn't that long ago, you know what I'm saying. So I don't know. I think it's it's an interesting you know. The Angels again, we talked to Jodell. What are they Cleveland, Minnesota. They seem more like the seller type to me, case is in a weird spot because they made the playoffs last year. The sellers are pretty obvious. The buyers are pretty obvious to me. The intriguing teams obviously are possibly both because we just don't know what's gonna happen. That's why this trade deadline is gonna be fascinating because there's not as many sellers with high quality products as in the past.

Speaker 4: Yeah, the one team that I'm looking at that I'm interested in is Cincinnati. Is there on the buyer's list and with the recent success that Milwaukee's had. Obviously, Ajau talked about how good the Cubs have looked and are playing. Cincinnati is the third best team in that division. Are they a top six team in the National League? I know they're you know, maybe three or four games out of a wildcard spot, But is that a team who's can kind of switch to a seller maybe a buyer and a seller depending on how this next week goes.

Speaker 4: I still kind of view things from a player's perspective. You know, you you you played a ton of games up until this point, and you kind of feel like your team's destiny is you know, based on this next week. You know there's you can go oh and six in April and you know it's talked about and you just continue to play the games. But if you go in oh and six. You know, this could be your the difference in your team buying and selling, you losing teammates, friends, you getting traded. So it's interesting that I've never kind of viewed it from a GM perspective of how you kind of view this last week leading up into the trade deadline.

Speaker 1: And this has to do with percentages. Most front offices have a percentage of what they think a playoff appearance looks like for them at the moment, and that's what they play too. They look at the standings and then they also look at projected totals for the rest of the year. I've heard GMS on the record in the past couple weeks mentioned stuff like that the Reds are three and a half games away from a playoff spot right now, matched with San Francisco and with the Cardinals, right but they have the Cardinals as on the fence kind of team where San Francisco and Cincinnati are three and a half out in a different spot. I think part of that, Kevin, has to do with where those teams are in the bigger picture. The Cardinals came into the year doing nothing and just riding the youth getting more playing time, and this being an adjustment period. They I think themselves probably didn't think they were going to be in this spot close enough to be in playoff range. They haven't played as well lately. San Francisco bought, I mean they bought in the off season. They bought it the when Raphael Devers was available. And for Cincinnati, I think they're buying into the starting staff they have. They have some great swing and miss there. There's probably one or two prospects because they keep drafting pitchers high up, probably one or two prospects that could make appearances in the second half of the year and be a big deal. I mean, we've seen Chase Burns already pop up for them. Hunter Green should be back soon, I think. So maybe they're looking at their staff thinking, hey, our best might be yet to come, and our percentage chance is higher than some of the other teams in a similar spot.

Speaker 4: I mean, they definitely have with Hunter Green and the emergence of Chase Burns and Dolo Like, that's a team that if you can sneak into the playoffs in a three game series, that's an incredibly difficult UH starting staff to face. So then you got a guy like Nick Martinez that you know could start coming the bullpen, but Cincinnati, like you said, they do have some guys coming up, you know that could fill some spots. But Cincinnati seems like the perfect team that should kind of be in the middle goodbye and could sell, you know, sell from some areas of strength to add to some areas of weakness. Knowing that they have some guys coming up. But interesting team. You know, you can never count a team with you know, their skip leading the way. They got a lot of young talent. It's I remember going there a couple of years ago, middle of summer when I was with the Braves, and it was kind of the emergence of a lot of their young guys and the place was sold out. And I remember watching on TV when they're in the playoffs too that it's such a great baseball place and it's a team that I'd love to see get in the postseason because I know how important baseball is to that city and they have such They just have a lot of young talent and they're a fun team to watch. Yeah.

Speaker 1: Bowden mentioned that the Reds are looking for an outfielder, they want some more offense, and then they're looking for some bullpen help. As is every team that's in the running. And he mentioned nowt Nick Crawls trying to push chips in right now, who's the GM of the team we know? AJ Terry Francona is in win now mode. I mean he came back to try and lead a playoff contender here.

Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not coming back to rebuild. And the Reds are in right, The Reds are going for it. The Giants, you mentioned Giants, Giants gotta go for it. They already threw all their chips in the devast trade. I mean, let's not kid ourselves either. The Devastrade and some of the signings they made Verlanders, those signings they made, those were to win now. Buster Posey's not gonna want to go through rebuild. He was brought in to help the Giants try to win now. So those teams to me, are going for they have to. But now what do they have and what can they get? Because this is a seller's market. So I don't know this Every trip day line is fascinating, but I just want to know what are the names that no one's talked about that all of a sudden is bam.

Speaker 1: Yeah. My thing is that if the Diamondbacks play well enough over the next week is going to make this market challenging. There are just not a lot of teams with good players that you can see making a major impact in the playoffs that are going to be available right now. I mean, we've gone through this, Kevin. But the White Sox don't have much to offer. The Rockies don't have much to offer. Marlins have a little bit. If they're going to deal away Sandi al Contra or Edward Cabrera, sure that can be an impact starter in the playoffs, and maybe they take advantage of a market like this and say, hey, there's not much available like what we have. I think Pittsburgh's going to trade Mitch Keller. I've actually been going back and forth with some commenters on YouTube that think he's got too many years left of team control. I'm like, I don't think that matters. They're going to look at where he's at right now and how there aren't starters like him available or not many of them. I mean, he could be a number three starter on a playoff team for me when I'm making a trade right or if I was making a trade at the deadline. Kevin, you're going to give up some significant prospect talent if it's someone that you think can start in October for you.

But you brought in David Price, and you know, that's a guy who's going to start game one or two for you in the playoffs. It's the price of doing business. It's the price of you know, putting yourself in a position to try.

You know, you think about a James Shield for a Fernando Tatis, but at the time, Fernando Tatis Junior was just an X Y and Z. And you know, we talk about those couple instances where you traded a player like James Shield for Frnando Tatis, but there's a million others where you know, you end up getting the better end of the player who's a proven commodity, and these prospects never really make it. So, I mean it's a hard balance for any GM. But but you know, as a player, from a player's perspective, when you when you put yourself and your team in that situation to you know, have the GM, you know, go out and and try to acquire players, it's definitely that shot in the arm you need this time of year where you know you're entering August and you've been at it for five six months, and you know, things started to get repetitive and tired, and you know, the.

And you know, talking to Alex a couple of years later, he learned a lot from that, just kind of from the morale standpoint of, you know, he didn't do his job to kind of, you know, push us over the edge and push us towards the finish line, and you know, we did a complete one eighty the next year, and you know, I keep talking about David Price and Troy tu Lwitski. We also went out inquired La, Troy Hawkins, Mark Low, Ben Revere. Like it was a full overhaul of our roster, and it energized the entire team. It energized that city. And you know, ultimately we didn't win the Ultimate prize, but it was a hell of a run.

I mean he's picked up right where he left off in the first half.
