<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Games Mornings with Me Jeff Grub,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're gonna be talking about a much
<v Speaker 1>anticipated switch to upgrade and is China really gonna save
<v Speaker 1>us from Ramageddon? We'll find out it's gonna be a
<v Speaker 1>good one because we had Jane Choe on the show.
<v Speaker 2>Jan how are you doing?
<v Speaker 3>I am doing okay, Grub perfectly.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, Yeah, I'm all the same. It's, you know, busy
<v Speaker 1>in a bunch of ways. Steph was in Switzerland last week.
<v Speaker 1>Now she's she's actually an SF right now, so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>she's doing some work out there. But she'll be home
<v Speaker 1>here in a couple of days and we'll get things
<v Speaker 1>back to Normaldel. Then I have a bunch of travel
<v Speaker 1>here coming soon.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, it's it's busy, but it's good. The kids
<v Speaker 2>have been really great.
<v Speaker 1>We're playing a lot of Minecraft that continues to be
<v Speaker 1>a lot of fun, lovely. Yeah, But how you doing otherwise?
<v Speaker 1>You've got any games you're into right now or anything
<v Speaker 1>like that.
<v Speaker 2>As far as.
<v Speaker 3>Games Grub, I think playing Overwatch yesterday with Mikey was
<v Speaker 3>bad for me because then I continued to play more
<v Speaker 3>Overwatch by myself, still playing a little bit of deadlock.
<v Speaker 3>All of these games. There's another game that i've I
<v Speaker 3>should finish at this point that has occupied some time,
<v Speaker 3>and there are other games coming out on the horizon.
<v Speaker 3>But Grub the thing I want to talk about real quick.
<v Speaker 3>Last week I ran three miles on straight through and
<v Speaker 3>I had a terrible time. Yesterday I did the same
<v Speaker 3>thing completely fine. We're building up, we're building up the lungs,
<v Speaker 3>we're building up the legs. We're a machine, grub, so you're.
<v Speaker 2>Scene results through consistency. That doesn't sound right. I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>it's weird.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know if people have thought about this.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think you might have had all It's just
<v Speaker 1>one of them hacks. This is one of the hacks
<v Speaker 1>so that people are doing is.
<v Speaker 3>One of the Okay, if you do something a lot,
<v Speaker 3>it gets easier.
<v Speaker 1>Right, Jan Can I ask you a personal and maybe
<v Speaker 1>sensitive question about this journey you're on.
<v Speaker 2>I think i'd know where you're going.
<v Speaker 1>Go ahead, Okay, we'll see. Look, you're doing a lot
<v Speaker 1>of effort. You're making a lot of efforts and making
<v Speaker 1>a lot of gains, a lot of self improvement. You're
<v Speaker 1>taking it seriously. Have you had the conversation with yourself
<v Speaker 1>about caffeine? No, I was thinking of like today, I'm like, man,
<v Speaker 1>I just I chugged this stuff down.
<v Speaker 2>I need to start thinking about it. And then I did.
<v Speaker 1>I did think about you, and I'm like, he's I
<v Speaker 1>think I saw like one of your posts or something
<v Speaker 1>and something about like yeah, getting fit and all that stuff.
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, I wonder how Jan's handling the whole coffee
<v Speaker 1>thing with this, because it's like, you know, caffeine, it
<v Speaker 1>has its place, but I drink a lot of it.
<v Speaker 2>Jan, I don't know what I'm gonna do about it.
<v Speaker 3>It's bad. I switched to like this like Thermis morning
<v Speaker 3>instead of a cup because this holds two cups.
<v Speaker 1>It's you know, what is like what's pre workout is
<v Speaker 1>pre workout just mostly caffeine.
<v Speaker 3>From my understanding, it is just straight of caffeine. That
<v Speaker 3>is something I don't partake in because I already drink
<v Speaker 3>a lot of caffeine. And I say that, and then
<v Speaker 3>I'm also going to share that before most times, before
<v Speaker 3>I run or go to the gym, I will drink
<v Speaker 3>a Celsius right a Celsius does also have caffeine, but
<v Speaker 3>the way they market it makes me feel better about myself.
<v Speaker 1>Grub Yeah, but they do also like I think Celsius
<v Speaker 1>is the one where it's like, don't worry, there's two
<v Speaker 1>hundred milligrams of caffeine in here, like we're just we'll
<v Speaker 1>tell you straight up, like you're.
<v Speaker 2>Gonna get what you need from this. But then it
<v Speaker 2>has it's a pretty drink, like it looks nice. It
<v Speaker 2>can't hurt me.
<v Speaker 3>I will say I did shotgun one once and I
<v Speaker 3>afterwards I felt like I could fight God. But because
<v Speaker 3>of how celsius can's look, they look very similar to
<v Speaker 3>white Claw.
<v Speaker 2>Yes they do.
<v Speaker 3>And an officer of the loss Any shot cutting a
<v Speaker 3>Celsius out in public and stopped me because he thought
<v Speaker 3>I was drinking alcohol in public. I showed him the
<v Speaker 3>Celsius can and then I think he was more scared.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, oh no, okay, this is bad. They're out here
<v Speaker 1>with their two hundred milligrams of caffeine. Pete and Chatsa's
<v Speaker 1>legal pre workout is basically just caffeine.
<v Speaker 2>But questionable pre workout is the good stuff. I'm gonna investigate.
<v Speaker 2>I need to see what's going on?
<v Speaker 3>You and I are the last people that should ever
<v Speaker 3>get into pre workout.
<v Speaker 1>I don't need, yes, absolutely do not need to touch it,
<v Speaker 1>but I it has peaud my curiosity for sure.
<v Speaker 2>So Okay, I think we've we've broached the subject.
<v Speaker 1>Now, Jan we'll check back in in a few months
<v Speaker 1>to see if like we've had any sort of time
<v Speaker 1>to look inward and reflect about coffee and caffeine.
<v Speaker 3>What's not gonna happen? It's not it just drink more water.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe that's true.
<v Speaker 1>That off sets it at undosity damage. I think I believe.
<v Speaker 1>So let's explain ourselves. We're Giant Bomb. We're independent video
<v Speaker 1>game internet dufases. We like to make stuff, but we
<v Speaker 1>need your help because that aforementioned independent part.

<v Speaker 1>Things are are happening, so uh look out, look and
<v Speaker 1>we we'll have more to announce here pretty soon. I'm
<v Speaker 1>like thinking of like I'm mixing up a bunch of shows.
<v Speaker 1>Mike's actually got another one he's working on. So yeah,

<v Speaker 1>as this show goes most weekdays, I Jeff Grub will
<v Speaker 1>help piece your gaming life back together. That includes breaking
<v Speaker 1>news and maybe even some of our own original reporting
<v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a
<v Speaker 1>bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If
<v Speaker 1>you are watching live on Twitch welcome, You can always

<v Speaker 1>giant bomb dot com. You can also catch the show
<v Speaker 1>later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning Mess with. Nintendo is finally giving
<v Speaker 1>a Zeno Blade Chronicles game the switch to treatment. It
<v Speaker 1>has happened to everybody. This is from Chris Copindio at GameSpot.
<v Speaker 1>Ever since Nintendo began releasing upgrade reads of its first
<v Speaker 1>party switch titles for Switch two, fans have been clamoring
<v Speaker 1>for refreshed editions of the Zeno Blade Chronicles games on
<v Speaker 1>the new console, and the company seems to be aware
<v Speaker 1>of the demand, shadow dropping a switch to version for
<v Speaker 1>Zeno Blade Chronicles X, which was among the most requested
<v Speaker 1>I believe on the e shop today.
<v Speaker 2>That's out.
<v Speaker 1>It's now The clumsily titled Zeno Blade Chronicles X Definitive
<v Speaker 1>Edition Dash Dash Nintendo Switch To Edition sports a frame
<v Speaker 1>rate of up to sixty frames per second on TV
<v Speaker 1>and handheld modes with a max four K resolution docked
<v Speaker 1>and ten adp undocked. It's available for digital purchase now.
<v Speaker 1>The upgrade pack for players with the original game so
<v Speaker 1>it is going to have a cost is five dollars
<v Speaker 1>with a full switch to game now retailing if you
<v Speaker 1>want to get it straight up for the switch to
<v Speaker 1>for sixty five dollars. So they're just going to build
<v Speaker 1>that cost in there. Okay, Yeah, people have been asking
<v Speaker 1>for this. It sounds like it's mostly performance update. I
<v Speaker 1>think people were like wondering what was taking so long here,
<v Speaker 1>and I wonder if the thing that was taking them
<v Speaker 1>so long is figuring out exactly how they wanted to
<v Speaker 1>approach charging people money for this because it is like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>well it's a performance patch and that's five dollars.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>People have been demanding it so much, maybe that's worth it.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, what do you think.
<v Speaker 3>I think for five dollars if you already have the
<v Speaker 3>base game, I don't think that's too much or too
<v Speaker 3>steep of an as grub, especially because this is a
<v Speaker 3>game that folks are going to spend more than fifty
<v Speaker 3>hours in, and in fact, I think with Zeno blakee
<v Speaker 3>Chronicles X, I think I remember Jake Decker saying that
<v Speaker 3>the game doesn't really start until you reach fifty plus
<v Speaker 3>hours in. So if you have to pay five dollars
<v Speaker 3>an additional five dollars to upgrade the game, but the
<v Speaker 3>game runs at a much more stable pace. I think
<v Speaker 3>that is an okay exchange to make. I know, I
<v Speaker 3>personally held off because I think when Zeno Blade Chronicles
<v Speaker 3>X came out on the switch, it came out at
<v Speaker 3>a very busy time of the year, and not that
<v Speaker 3>this time isn't any less busy, but I am more
<v Speaker 3>inclined to go check it out. Now that being said,
<v Speaker 3>I really want Zeno Blade Chronicles three uh to get
<v Speaker 3>that switch to treatment. But if this this has got
<v Speaker 3>that grub, I think that does it. That means that
<v Speaker 3>perhaps we will get more of these switch to upgrades
<v Speaker 3>in the horizon.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. I think they're just get They're gonna keep at it.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's uh, that's been the word that's been
<v Speaker 1>the reporting is they're they're working on a lot of these,
<v Speaker 1>so expect quite a few. And yeah, I'm like, I'm
<v Speaker 1>definitely split. I think you know, it's uh it is.
<v Speaker 1>It doesn't seem like it's worthy of five dollars and
<v Speaker 1>yet uh someone points out in chat like, uh, remember
<v Speaker 1>out Nintendo treated the WEU to switch pipeline where it
<v Speaker 1>was like we weren't getting refined versions of those games.
<v Speaker 1>Now there was no back or compatibility there, So that's
<v Speaker 1>the big difference. So they're porting the games that required
<v Speaker 1>a lot more work, But if you already owned the game,
<v Speaker 1>you could get a slightly better version on the switch
<v Speaker 1>for a full price, Like you have to buy the
<v Speaker 1>game again entirely to get Super Super Mario three D World,
<v Speaker 1>and you had to buy that again. Now they added
<v Speaker 1>extra features and stuff to justify that, but still it's like,
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad that they are doing it this way if
<v Speaker 1>the alternative is just releasing it again as a switch
<v Speaker 1>to version with maybe some extra stuff to justify us
<v Speaker 1>having to spend sixty dollars again and yet five dollars
<v Speaker 1>for performance, especially in this case where it might be
<v Speaker 1>a little weird because we did here at the time
<v Speaker 1>that people found code in the games that would unlock
<v Speaker 1>the frame rate, and it's like, well, you know, isn't
<v Speaker 1>it just that simple to flip on a switch, And
<v Speaker 1>it's I always got to stop myself be like, it's
<v Speaker 1>probably not that simple. So that if this probably did
<v Speaker 1>involve them going in there and doing labor, and yet
<v Speaker 1>it's the kind of stuff that I just feel like,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, I don't feel great about the price,
<v Speaker 1>but if the alternative is them not doing this at all,
<v Speaker 1>so be it.
<v Speaker 2>I will.
<v Speaker 1>I will likely pay up often, although in this case,
<v Speaker 1>I'm not a Zeno Blake guy, so I probably won't
<v Speaker 1>show up for this one, but I know Zeno Blake
<v Speaker 1>people will.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, Yes, indeed they will grub. The other games that
<v Speaker 3>I'm curious if Nintendo will circle back around to is
<v Speaker 3>perhaps Fire Emblem Three Houses, and I played a lot
<v Speaker 3>of that game, and I don't necessarily feel like I
<v Speaker 3>need to check back up on it, but if that
<v Speaker 3>was an option, I might get back into the dormitories
<v Speaker 3>and party with the gang over there.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I think they'll probably just do all the rest of
<v Speaker 1>the Zeno Blade games here now going forward. This one's
<v Speaker 1>shadow dropping kind of kind of out of nowhere, you know.
<v Speaker 1>It's they've done that with these before. Still feels like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>they're going to get this out of the way and
<v Speaker 1>continue on doing this with the rest of the Zeno
<v Speaker 1>Blay games and a bunch more Nintendo Switch one games.
<v Speaker 1>They've done a lot, there's still a lot left over
<v Speaker 1>that they could give this treatment to all right. Todd
<v Speaker 1>Howard claims the majority of Bethesda of that studio are
<v Speaker 1>on Elder Scroll six, but also don't expect Starfield two
<v Speaker 1>point zero soon. This is from Jordan Miller at VGC,
<v Speaker 1>but as the game studios director Todd Howard has claimed
<v Speaker 1>that the majority of the studio is currently working on
<v Speaker 1>the Elder Scrolls six. Speaking to kind of Funny Games,
<v Speaker 1>Howard said that the game was going well and that
<v Speaker 1>the team is happy with it. However, Howard then followed
<v Speaker 1>that by saying it's going to be a while yet.
<v Speaker 1>The game was first announced in twenty eighteen. We're able
<v Speaker 1>to play the game. We're about to pass a big
<v Speaker 1>milestone internally, Howard said, the majority of the studio is
<v Speaker 1>on that game and some of our partners. A release
<v Speaker 1>date for the Elder Scroll six, or even a release window,
<v Speaker 1>hasn't been shared, though Howard has spoken more openly about
<v Speaker 1>the project in the last year. Elsewhere in the interview,
<v Speaker 1>Howard addressed reports that the new content will be coming
<v Speaker 1>that new content will be coming to Starfield soon. He
<v Speaker 1>says it is not not Starfield two point zero. I've
<v Speaker 1>seen some of that. So for the so for expectations setting.
<v Speaker 1>It's the kind of thing where if you love Starfield,
<v Speaker 1>we think you're going to love this. Rumors have persisted
<v Speaker 1>for some time that a PlayStation five version of the
<v Speaker 1>game is on the way. Howard was also asked about
<v Speaker 1>the Fallout series. Despite the game's TV adaptation continuing to
<v Speaker 1>do well both critically and commercially, a new single player
<v Speaker 1>entry in the franchise hasn't been released since twenty fifteen.
<v Speaker 1>He said, it's understandable when these big franchises people love,
<v Speaker 1>people want brand new experiences.
<v Speaker 2>He said, we're working on stuff.
<v Speaker 1>There's a time to announce that we have irons in
<v Speaker 1>the fire man can never say that word. When pushed
<v Speaker 1>on how many Fallout games the company is working on,
<v Speaker 1>Howard reaffirmed that multiple games are coming. I bet that's
<v Speaker 1>you know Fallout three remake, like similar to Oblivion. Yes, yeah, Oblivion,
<v Speaker 1>that's probably happening. And then a new game is probably happening.
<v Speaker 1>But what does that look like? How long does that take?
<v Speaker 2>Who knows?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, so let's start with Elder Scroll six. Yeah, most
<v Speaker 1>of the studios working on it. It's still gonna take
<v Speaker 1>a long while. Not too much of a shift in
<v Speaker 1>our perception of like where that game is at, right,
<v Speaker 1>this is what we expected.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Ever since I this is one of those instances,
<v Speaker 3>Greb where I feel like it was probably a major
<v Speaker 3>disservice to the team and the game to announce it
<v Speaker 3>so early, just because there's already the perception that video
<v Speaker 3>game development's going to take a long time. But now
<v Speaker 3>that you've announced it and put it out into the world,
<v Speaker 3>people are just going to be very annoying and persistent
<v Speaker 3>about it. But for the rest of the team to
<v Speaker 3>shift their focus on too, Elder Scroll six makes complete sense.
<v Speaker 3>I personally have never been the biggest Elder Scrolls fan,
<v Speaker 3>but I do appreciate the audience's fervor for it, particularly
<v Speaker 3>our own Mike Manhatti and Chuck Zimmerheld. How much do
<v Speaker 3>they love dem Scrolls?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if Mike does I actually love it,
<v Speaker 1>because he was when I was talking about the console thing.
<v Speaker 1>He's just like, nah, I don't get it, and that's
<v Speaker 1>very much his his like the Smash Brothers thing for
<v Speaker 1>everyone else where. He's like, uh No, you guys don't
<v Speaker 1>play as much as I do, so you don't get it.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think he truly appreciates Elder scrolls. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's see here. What else they Starfield two point oh.
<v Speaker 1>You know, I'm surprised it's not Starfield two point oh,
<v Speaker 1>and like it mus it must be like continue to
<v Speaker 1>be like part of their original plan for for ongoing support,
<v Speaker 1>and they're delivering that still, and that's like holding them
<v Speaker 1>back from doing a full revamp. But I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>what do you think that that they should be doing
<v Speaker 1>with Starfield.
<v Speaker 3>I actually don't know at all what the focus or
<v Speaker 3>priorities should be with Starfield. Grub that is a release
<v Speaker 3>that completely missed me, just wasn't interested in it at all.
<v Speaker 3>And I feel like upon its initial release kind of
<v Speaker 3>I don't want to say fell flat, but mixed reviews
<v Speaker 3>for sure. Eventually warmed up to a couple people. I
<v Speaker 3>don't know if it has the juice to get a
<v Speaker 3>lot of people back and interested in a two point
<v Speaker 3>zero release. I know that you've been checking out that
<v Speaker 3>Star Wars mod, and if anything, I'm more interested in
<v Speaker 3>that rather than like anything new from straight from Bethesda.
<v Speaker 3>If anything, I'm more interested in potential mods for it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it like him saying, like, if you love Starfield,
<v Speaker 1>we're doing more of that.
<v Speaker 2>It's oh, oh okay.
<v Speaker 1>I just thought you might be a little bit more
<v Speaker 1>concerned with winning over that audience that didn't love the game,
<v Speaker 1>because yeah, that's a larger portion of the audience, it
<v Speaker 1>seems like.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, especially if they're gonna like try and have a
<v Speaker 3>port go to the PS five, I think you would
<v Speaker 3>want something slightly brand, spank and new over there versus
<v Speaker 3>more Starfield.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, let's see anything else from this.
<v Speaker 3>I'm just surprised that they haven't, Like, I know that
<v Speaker 3>flipping game development around is difficult, but I feel like
<v Speaker 3>they had to have known that the Fallout TV show
<v Speaker 3>would be good, or at least they had to have
<v Speaker 3>known that of the production of the Fallout Show and
<v Speaker 3>with all of this Amazon money attached, that it could
<v Speaker 3>be okay, it could take off. So I'm a little
<v Speaker 3>bit surprised that there still hasn't been any type of
<v Speaker 3>major adjustments to make another Fallout game other than just
<v Speaker 3>like kind of putting new paint on existing Fallout games,
<v Speaker 3>especially with just how popular audio like the general audience
<v Speaker 3>is for Fallout and them learning like, oh, this is
<v Speaker 3>a game series, cool, let me go check it out
<v Speaker 3>and it isn't the easiest thing, or at least the
<v Speaker 3>translation isn't one to one.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think it's If anything, it illustrates just how
<v Speaker 1>difficult it is to make things happen in games these days,
<v Speaker 1>where it's like, oh, we need to be able to
<v Speaker 1>react fast to the shifting regality on the ground. Fallout
<v Speaker 1>is now one of the hot properties, not just in
<v Speaker 1>games but in media.
<v Speaker 2>What can we do about that? And it's like, not much.
<v Speaker 2>We just can't do much about that at all. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>It's a similar story with the Twisted Metal show, which
<v Speaker 3>I feel like has been like a quiet success at
<v Speaker 3>least in our circles. I think they're on They did
<v Speaker 3>an already air season two. I think they're about to
<v Speaker 3>have a third season of the show, which is wild.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, I'm curious, would folks out there at all
<v Speaker 3>be interested in like a tell Tale Dispatch style Fallout game?
<v Speaker 3>Would that be up anyone's alley?
<v Speaker 1>I think they could get away with that as long
<v Speaker 1>as people knew real new Fallout is coming. Yeah, this
<v Speaker 1>was like and then we're also doing this, I mean
<v Speaker 1>the Silent Hell method. Right now, here's the remake, here's
<v Speaker 1>a new game, here's another new game, here's something different,
<v Speaker 1>here's one from Anna Pirna. It's like, oh, oh okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and everyone's like, well, Silent Hill f so good, and
<v Speaker 1>Silent Hill two remake was so good. You have a
<v Speaker 1>lot of leeway right now, and they would need something
<v Speaker 1>along those lines to be able to get to be
<v Speaker 1>able to deliver that without people being like, this is
<v Speaker 1>not what we were talking about when we said we
<v Speaker 1>wanted more Fallout more from this interview. The Elder Scroll
<v Speaker 1>six will use an upgraded version of Starfield and Skyrim's
<v Speaker 1>game engine. This is from Thomas Franz's at GameSpot. Because
<v Speaker 1>this Todd Howard has reaffirmed that the Elder Scroll six
<v Speaker 1>will use Creation Engine three, which is, you know, different
<v Speaker 1>from the Starfield one that was Creation Engine two. But
<v Speaker 1>of course, as always, these tools are just refined over
<v Speaker 1>a long period of time. It's still going to be
<v Speaker 1>one of those games. And I don't know if anyone
<v Speaker 1>should have ever been expecting anything else that they were
<v Speaker 1>never really going to be like, let's completely scrap the
<v Speaker 1>way we've made games and go full into like Unreal
<v Speaker 1>Engine or something.
<v Speaker 3>M yeah, Greb. Someone brings it up in the chat.
<v Speaker 3>Laise Sugum posits, how is Capcom releasing three resident evils
<v Speaker 3>every year and everyone needs two decades to make one game?
<v Speaker 3>And I think that's just tied to these very hyper
<v Speaker 3>specific studio video game engines, right, Like the RI engine
<v Speaker 3>has worked for Capcom in such a way that they
<v Speaker 3>can make tweaks and improvements to churn not churn out.
<v Speaker 1>But like flip and that was a recent investment, like
<v Speaker 1>relatively speaking, that was a recent investment. They dropped their
<v Speaker 1>previous engine, which was I can't remember the net framework
<v Speaker 1>or something like that. They dropped that and moved to
<v Speaker 1>this and it made a big investment and decided to
<v Speaker 1>do that in like the last ten years. And a
<v Speaker 1>lot of these other studios are either using engines that
<v Speaker 1>are run by someone else, or is their own engine
<v Speaker 1>that they've had for twenty five years or something crazy
<v Speaker 1>like that. Yeah, MPT framework, thank you chat so you know, And.
<v Speaker 3>I'm sure a lot of this is adapting an engine
<v Speaker 3>to kind of like future proof it and just be
<v Speaker 3>able to get more talent to work on the game.
<v Speaker 3>But it just it just makes the black box of
<v Speaker 3>video game development more or mysterious for me, grub just
<v Speaker 3>looking on the outside.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, agreed. You know, I'm glad he's out here talking
<v Speaker 1>about this stuff. I do really love the Elder Scrolls games,
<v Speaker 1>and I love the Fallout games, and I want to
<v Speaker 1>see them be able to kind of get back into
<v Speaker 1>the get their groove back a little bit, and Elder
<v Speaker 1>Scroll six does feel like an opportunity to do that.
<v Speaker 1>But also it feels like an opportunity for them to
<v Speaker 1>just be like, we're never gonna we are fully stuck
<v Speaker 1>in our ways and we have not been able to
<v Speaker 1>sort of.
<v Speaker 2>Grow and change with the times.
<v Speaker 1>And the feeling you have about Starfield is the feeling
<v Speaker 1>you might have about all of our games going forward,
<v Speaker 1>because they just aren't advancing in all the right ways.
<v Speaker 1>So it's this huge opportunity to kind of like prove
<v Speaker 1>the haters wrong or to sort of have this resurgence.
<v Speaker 1>And I bet they want to get it right. I'm
<v Speaker 1>sure they're well aware of most of that perception. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>all right, let's let's take a break. When we come back,
<v Speaker 1>plenty more headlines to get into. We might here about
<v Speaker 1>Sony Santa Monica's new game here pretty soon, we'll talk
<v Speaker 1>about that. We'll get to all that after these messages
<v Speaker 1>If you want to skip out on these ads, go
<v Speaker 1>to GiantBomb dot com slash Join become a premium member.
<v Speaker 1>There you can find the ad free version of the
<v Speaker 1>audio and video show. In the meantime, we will be
<v Speaker 1>right back. It's Games Mornings. We're back, Jeff Grubb, Janetchoa.
<v Speaker 1>Let's make this happen with this next story. The God
<v Speaker 1>of War Credos actor says fans will hear about what
<v Speaker 1>we're doing this summer. This is from Andy Robinson at VGC.
<v Speaker 1>God of War actor Christopher Judge has claimed that his
<v Speaker 1>next game will be announced this summer, fueling speculation that
<v Speaker 1>it could be Santa Monica Studio's next big project. Judge,
<v Speaker 1>who plays Cretos in the upcome in the modern God
<v Speaker 1>of War titles, was talking to a streamer at Fan
<v Speaker 1>Expo in Vancouver, Canada, who asked the actor about the
<v Speaker 1>recently announced God of War trilogy remake. It's not clear
<v Speaker 1>if Judge is aware that the conversation was being recorded.
<v Speaker 1>Judge confirmed that he won't be appearing in the trilogy
<v Speaker 1>remake since original actor of Credos actor TC Carson will
<v Speaker 1>be reprising his role, as announced in a recent State
<v Speaker 1>of play live stream. According to Judge, the remake will
<v Speaker 1>feature a new fighting system, and then you'll be hearing
<v Speaker 1>about what we're doing probably in late summer. That's the
<v Speaker 1>quote right there. While he did not clarify who this
<v Speaker 1>comment was in relation to the context of the conversation,
<v Speaker 1>has led many to assume Judges referring to God of
<v Speaker 1>War developers Sony Santa Monica or Santa Monica Studio. The
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation developer's last major project was twenty twenty two's God
<v Speaker 1>of War Ragnarok. Creative doctor Corey Barlog, who helmed to
<v Speaker 1>twenty eighteen God of War but stepped aside for the sequel,
<v Speaker 1>is understood to be working on an unannounced project, and
<v Speaker 1>Sony Santa Monica is currently celebrating.
<v Speaker 2>God of War's twentieth anniversary.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, so yeah, he's, you know, being asked about what's
<v Speaker 1>going on here, and then you'll be hearing about what
<v Speaker 1>we're doing probably in late summer. Are we to assume
<v Speaker 1>that he is talking about Corey Barlog's new game, and like,
<v Speaker 1>and he's in is he on that game as well?
<v Speaker 2>Like he's the guy war voice actor.
<v Speaker 1>There's no reason to assume that he's going to be
<v Speaker 1>playing a character in the new different game that has
<v Speaker 1>nothing to do with God of War, right, yeah.
<v Speaker 3>Ed Grub, I think this is hilarious how voice actors are,
<v Speaker 3>specifically in audio game industry. It's like, Gang, you all
<v Speaker 3>know a long video, you work with these devs, you
<v Speaker 3>work and see you've done work, and you know that
<v Speaker 3>this work will not come out until several years later.
<v Speaker 3>So it just astounds me that it's not just Christopher
<v Speaker 3>Judge here, and you know, God bless Christopher Judge. He's
<v Speaker 3>just very excited, he's very attached to the series at
<v Speaker 3>this point. I think he's great as Credos. But it's
<v Speaker 3>just so funny that the concept of an NDA escapes
<v Speaker 3>all of these voice actors. Because there was the Zeno
<v Speaker 3>Saga or Zeno Gears leak we saw and other voice
<v Speaker 3>actors talking about their work like it doesn't matter or
<v Speaker 3>none of this stuff is sensitive information. But I could
<v Speaker 3>perhaps see this leading to a Sony Santa Monica reveal
<v Speaker 3>as to what Corey Ballrog has been working on for
<v Speaker 3>the last couple of years this summer.
<v Speaker 1>I yeah, yeah, sure, it wouldn't surprise me at all
<v Speaker 1>if Barlug and that team are like it is a
<v Speaker 1>different game, different universe. Let's make sure that we keep
<v Speaker 1>Judge employed because we like working with him a lot,
<v Speaker 1>and he's been very good for like the promotion of
<v Speaker 1>that game, Like when he shows up, people get excited
<v Speaker 1>and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, I think the.
<v Speaker 1>Assumption is that Barlug's not working on a God of
<v Speaker 1>War game.
<v Speaker 2>So that is why it's a little bit like tricky.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, what is he Maybe he's talking about some
<v Speaker 1>other God of War thing that is happening separate from
<v Speaker 1>the remake, separate from all this other stuff. We'll find
<v Speaker 1>out later this summer they'll probably have some other state
<v Speaker 1>of play, maybe even a showcase following up the summer game.
<v Speaker 2>First time we'll see.
<v Speaker 1>The other thing we're talking about here, though, is apparently
<v Speaker 1>he has some insight into the remakes of the original
<v Speaker 1>God of War trilogy, which he is not involved in.
<v Speaker 1>That is TC Carson, but he has some insight there
<v Speaker 1>where he says it's going to have a new fighting
<v Speaker 1>system better not Yeah, I know I want those games
<v Speaker 1>again and I want him to play like those games.
<v Speaker 2>I'm concerned here.
<v Speaker 1>What this means is it is the God of War one, two,
<v Speaker 1>and three but now they play like God of War
<v Speaker 1>twenty eighteen, which, like those are good games. God War
<v Speaker 1>twenty eighteen is a good game. There's a reason I
<v Speaker 1>am craving the original God of Wars that should I
<v Speaker 1>be concerned here?
<v Speaker 3>Jan I hope this is just a quote or some
<v Speaker 3>conversation taken out of context, and maybe would judge perhaps
<v Speaker 3>means or what we can parse out is there are
<v Speaker 3>quality of life changes versus completely rehuling the combat, because
<v Speaker 3>I think Sony and PlayStation have to be aware that
<v Speaker 3>there are people out there that have a fondness for
<v Speaker 3>the original God of War trilogy because of how it controls,
<v Speaker 3>and that it would wouldn't serve anyone to completely change
<v Speaker 3>that up to adapt the twenty eighteen control style.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I just it's so easy to hear someone say
<v Speaker 1>something and to extrapulate into the exact thing that would
<v Speaker 1>give me the most anxiety about what this game could be.
<v Speaker 1>The way they are positioning it though, is like one
<v Speaker 1>two three trilogy remake. It does sound like they are
<v Speaker 1>doing a lot of work to change how this game
<v Speaker 1>behaves and maybe making it into like one continuous experience
<v Speaker 1>that has one, two, and three.
<v Speaker 2>And if that's the case, it's like, yeah, they.
<v Speaker 1>Could, they could make a lot of changes, but yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm just not sure exactly what to expect. And I
<v Speaker 1>wonder if internally at PlayStation they're like, hey, we gotta
<v Speaker 1>we have to make it play more like the modern
<v Speaker 1>ones because that is what will get people to show
<v Speaker 1>up to buy the game. I don't know if they
<v Speaker 1>should believe that, but I wonder if that is what
<v Speaker 1>they believe.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know why that would come up in conversation
<v Speaker 3>or come up as a thought grub, because like, I
<v Speaker 3>feel like you don't get to God of War twenty
<v Speaker 3>eighteen without the foundation of that original series, and like
<v Speaker 3>those two games are or those games are a fork
<v Speaker 3>in my head in terms of controls, because like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>twenty eighteen is a different game than those original ones,
<v Speaker 3>so it makes sense to have a different control style. Also,
<v Speaker 3>they're going for something radically different. Tones are radically different,
<v Speaker 3>among other things in those games.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, I'm not sure.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see it's this thing's still a long ways off.
<v Speaker 1>Sounds like they are still just kind of getting things started,
<v Speaker 1>so we probably won't get anything from this game for.
<v Speaker 2>A couple of years.
<v Speaker 3>Again, so we'll see that being said, Hey, put Christopher
<v Speaker 3>Judge in more things because like the man's voice great,
<v Speaker 3>and like you said, grub, he's he champions a game
<v Speaker 3>very very well.
<v Speaker 2>A good ambassador.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, absolute, and then uh, and then I would like
<v Speaker 1>to see him and T. C. Carson in a game together.
<v Speaker 1>So maybe they can work on the Corey Barlog project together.
<v Speaker 1>Gef the new h new credos old credos. Let them
<v Speaker 1>kind of talk back and forth. That would be fun.
<v Speaker 2>That could cool. That could be yeah cool, Actually, that'd
<v Speaker 2>be neat.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and they both have a lot of like, uh,
<v Speaker 1>like you know, swagger and stuff like that, so be
<v Speaker 1>fun to have those characters butting heads or something like that,
<v Speaker 1>whatever they would be, that'd be neat.
<v Speaker 2>Uh, all right.
<v Speaker 1>Kristen Bell will be Amy in Sonic the Hedgehog four.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Eric hittelback Uru at Game Reactor. One
<v Speaker 1>of the most post credit. One of the post credit
<v Speaker 1>scenes in the third Sonic the Hedgehog Movie revealed that
<v Speaker 1>Amy will finally be joining the team in the fourth movie,
<v Speaker 1>but it did, just like the other teases in previous movies,
<v Speaker 1>not include her talking.
<v Speaker 2>So who could be voicing Sonic's pink friend now? We know.
<v Speaker 1>Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic in the Movies, has
<v Speaker 1>confirmed the rumors that Kristen Bell will be the voice
<v Speaker 1>of Amy in Sonic the Hedgehog four. This is definitely
<v Speaker 1>not her first time voice acting. She is Anna in
<v Speaker 1>Frozen okay, now yes, and now also Amy in Sonic
<v Speaker 1>the Hedgehog.
<v Speaker 2>That is a good get I like. I like Kristin Bell.
<v Speaker 1>She's one of those celebrity celebrities that I bet a
<v Speaker 1>lot of people hate, but you know, it's just because
<v Speaker 1>I don't know. Some of the celebrities just have an
<v Speaker 1>attitude of like, here's all the other things going on
<v Speaker 1>in my life, and I don't think people respond to
<v Speaker 1>that too well. But I like her and always have.
<v Speaker 1>But I'm a Veronica Mars fan, so that's that's a
<v Speaker 1>big part of it.
<v Speaker 3>Likewise, Grub always been a fan of Kristin Bell. Definitely.
<v Speaker 3>I think I've enjoyed almost everything she's been in. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>and I think this is just adding. The only thing
<v Speaker 3>I don't like about this, Grub is that this gives
<v Speaker 3>Dax Shepherd more money to just sit in his stupid
<v Speaker 3>fucking studio and continue doing his weirdo podcast.
<v Speaker 2>It's a weird podcast.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yeah, yeah, there are some conversations in some interviews.
<v Speaker 2>I think I have been great and are.
<v Speaker 3>Good most of the time, just not my cup of tea.
<v Speaker 3>But Christen Bell's got to be raking it in at
<v Speaker 3>this point because not only do you have like her
<v Speaker 3>like movie career and like her television career, but you're
<v Speaker 3>getting those Disney residuals grub and now you're gonna be
<v Speaker 3>getting those Sonic residuals. And I know residuals for some
<v Speaker 3>actors are like hit and miss, but if you are
<v Speaker 3>like on the top tier of voice talent, you have
<v Speaker 3>got to be doing okay yep.
<v Speaker 1>And these Sonic movies feel like they are gonna do
<v Speaker 1>okay for forever. Like I think every generation of Sonic
<v Speaker 1>fans going forward is going to like latch onto these
<v Speaker 1>movies in a big ways.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, especially that third one. It's so good. It's
<v Speaker 2>like this.
<v Speaker 1>True masterpiece of working with brands and comedy and comedic
<v Speaker 1>actors and just letting them sort of do their thing
<v Speaker 1>while also still being true to for the most part,
<v Speaker 1>to the core like Sonic Ethos.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's a fun time. I should watch that movie again.
<v Speaker 3>Do you think she's gonna sing.
<v Speaker 2>I bet so.
<v Speaker 1>I'm not like, maybe not a huge musical number, but
<v Speaker 1>I bet she'll be a musical character, you know.
<v Speaker 3>Sure, Also, grub this just opens the door for more
<v Speaker 3>spin offs. I know that we have that paramount plus
<v Speaker 3>knuckles show. Right, this is definitely going to lead to
<v Speaker 3>an Amy the Hedgehog side series, even maybe a side
<v Speaker 3>movie or whatever, just because hey, they know that Sonic
<v Speaker 3>not only appeals to all of the kids, it specifically
<v Speaker 3>appeals to the dumb boys. Now we got a pink
<v Speaker 3>one which will appeal to the girls.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>And they definitely know how that what they're doing with
<v Speaker 1>that that stuff in the Sonic world, so they'll be
<v Speaker 1>able to do that with the movie.
<v Speaker 2>You're right, like a TV spin off or something.
<v Speaker 1>Like that that feels like this the Sonic you know,
<v Speaker 1>movie universe can go on for forever. Right, Like the
<v Speaker 1>fact that they're just now introducing Amy, it's like there's
<v Speaker 1>all these other characters you have to come that they
<v Speaker 1>could latch onto and like mix them up in a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of different ways where it's like, now it's this
<v Speaker 1>movie's more about Amy and Shadow interacting with one another,
<v Speaker 1>and the movies do just keep making more money each
<v Speaker 1>time I think?
<v Speaker 2>So, yeah, yeah, what do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Uh grub? I mean, there's several characters from the games
<v Speaker 3>that we could introduce, you know, there's the whole spo, Charmie,
<v Speaker 3>the b Vector, the Alligator Gang. But then no, we
<v Speaker 3>did get Metal Sonic, right we did in the.
<v Speaker 2>Third ye did? Yeah you?
<v Speaker 3>But then there's the comics, the Archie style comics that
<v Speaker 3>you could introduce. Get Sally Acorns up in this, Ruge
<v Speaker 3>the Bat.
<v Speaker 1>Was Rouge Never Rouge has not been teased yet, right, No, No,
<v Speaker 1>I dream that, not that I'm dreaming about Rouge the
<v Speaker 1>Bat everybody, but I just I thought I could have
<v Speaker 1>been tricked by something.
<v Speaker 2>I just assumed that happened.
<v Speaker 3>Here's my casting for Rouge the Bat, Lady.
<v Speaker 1>Gaga, that is inspired, that is has that has to happen. Now,
<v Speaker 1>Holy moly, that would be amazing.
<v Speaker 3>Paramount cut the check and then put all of us
<v Speaker 3>in a Sonic movie.
<v Speaker 2>Please, oh yeah, we gotta be Can we please be
<v Speaker 2>chows in?
<v Speaker 3>Let us be chows.
<v Speaker 2>We'd be such good chows. That would be amazing.
<v Speaker 3>Kill us off immediately, but let us be the chows.
<v Speaker 2>Right, just give it. I don't even like. I don't
<v Speaker 2>even need a speaking line. I just want to make noises. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>come on, or.
<v Speaker 3>Let us be like. I'll be Sbo grubbleb Vector, Mike,
<v Speaker 3>you will be Charmie the Bee. Dan will just be Dan.
<v Speaker 1>Dan will just be Dan as another human in the movie,
<v Speaker 1>right next to the cyclops.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, perfect. I want to be big. The cat is big.
<v Speaker 2>The cat in there yet?
<v Speaker 3>No, no, he's not.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, Ben Starr is big. The cat is actually right,
<v Speaker 2>mecha robot. That's good.
<v Speaker 3>Oh oh oh oh. I love Ben Starr. But Samoa
<v Speaker 3>Joe as big the cat.
<v Speaker 2>Oh that is yep?
<v Speaker 1>Oh man, Okay, yeah, I'm I'm falling more in love
<v Speaker 1>with these Sonic movies.
<v Speaker 2>So I'm all aboard.
<v Speaker 3>Let's someone get me into ca.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah you're hey. Casting director Janicho has a nice sound to,
<v Speaker 1>a nice ring to it. Let's keep going. Those Monster
<v Speaker 1>Hunter Wilds on switch to rumors refuse to go away.
<v Speaker 1>New data mind evidence adds fuel to the fire. This
<v Speaker 1>is from dom Pepiat at Eurogamer. Do you have a
<v Speaker 1>sense of deja vu? Because data minders believe they've discovered
<v Speaker 1>more evidence that Monster Hunter Wilds could be coming to
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo switch to a sentence we've already typed out.
<v Speaker 2>Here on Eurogamer.
<v Speaker 1>In the year twenty twenty six, we're back on familiar
<v Speaker 1>ground following the release of a massive update for Capcom's
<v Speaker 1>The Latest Action RPG this week, in which the Japanese
<v Speaker 1>publisher unleashed a flood of new content into the game
<v Speaker 1>to tide us all over until the next big DLC
<v Speaker 1>drop comes, which we're apparently going to hear more about
<v Speaker 1>in the summer. As part of this big final update,
<v Speaker 1>Sleuth's digging through the game's newly updated code think that
<v Speaker 1>they've found an unearth more evidence that the game has
<v Speaker 1>a switch to version in the works, in the form
<v Speaker 1>of a tutorial image depicting switch to local multiplayer. So
<v Speaker 1>the image is just for people sitting in a circle,
<v Speaker 1>all huddled around, putting their switch tos right next to
<v Speaker 1>each other, playing Monster Hunter Wilds together in a local
<v Speaker 1>multiplayer setting, something that is very traditional to this series
<v Speaker 1>and not surprising to see. It's like, of course they're
<v Speaker 1>going to want to do that that, you know, all
<v Speaker 1>the stuff lines up here. We don't need these leagues
<v Speaker 1>jen to have these rumors because Monster Hunter popular everywhere.
<v Speaker 1>Monster Hunter very popular in Japan, Nintendo Switch far more
<v Speaker 1>popular in Japan than any other platform, and the Montster
<v Speaker 1>Hunter works really good, really well as a portable game.
<v Speaker 1>Switch To is portable. Like all these things just line up. Also,
<v Speaker 1>Capcom has just publicly said they are very interested in
<v Speaker 1>supporting supporting switch To with all of their games, and
<v Speaker 1>they're making big efforts like Pragmata is coming to switch To.
<v Speaker 1>The one caveat here has been performance, and it does
<v Speaker 1>sound like they've improved performance quite a bit even before
<v Speaker 1>that weird DLC check thing popped up and was causing issues. Right,
<v Speaker 1>So I think if that is not no longer a
<v Speaker 1>big hang up, it will prevent this game from running
<v Speaker 1>on switch to in an acceptable way.
<v Speaker 3>It has to happen, right, Yeah, And I feel it
<v Speaker 3>could be a huge return to form grub because a
<v Speaker 3>lot of my friends originally played the Monster Hunter games
<v Speaker 3>on gosh, was it the DS or three DS?
<v Speaker 1>Three DS was a bunch there was a bunch of
<v Speaker 1>there's like one of the fan faves is on three DS.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, So a lot of my friends would just like
<v Speaker 3>huddle up in my living room, ignore me, and play
<v Speaker 3>Monster Hunter together on their three DS's so I feel
<v Speaker 3>like this would be pretty big, specifically in Japan grub
<v Speaker 3>for at least to get to the switch to people
<v Speaker 3>to just party up locally and go on hunts together.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, I I you can kind of see it, and
<v Speaker 1>I would I would be interested. I'm I might just
<v Speaker 1>go back to Rise though, because that that one seems
<v Speaker 1>a little bit more of my speed, and I know
<v Speaker 1>people are the fans really like going back to that
<v Speaker 1>one now, But yeah, I don't know. It would probably
<v Speaker 1>be better if a bunch of people were playing with me.
<v Speaker 1>So maybe I'll just go with whatever one people decide
<v Speaker 1>to adopt here in the next year or so.
<v Speaker 2>All right, so let's keep going.
<v Speaker 1>Gamers thought China would save them with cheap RAM, but
<v Speaker 1>it's not that simple. This is from Zach Swizen at Kotaku.
<v Speaker 1>For a few months now, many gamers had seemingly pined
<v Speaker 1>pinned their hopes on a company in China to help
<v Speaker 1>alleviate rising prices on RAM resulting from the ongoing and
<v Speaker 1>worsening memory shortage fueled by AI hyperscalers and tech giants.
<v Speaker 1>But while new tests show the Chinese developed RAM is
<v Speaker 1>good for gaming, it's unlikely to be the silver.
<v Speaker 2>Bowl that many had hoped for.
<v Speaker 1>Over on the Reddit forum for PC gaming, which is
<v Speaker 1>PC master Race, one of the largest PC gaming communities
<v Speaker 1>on the Internet, people have been talking about Chinese tech
<v Speaker 1>company c x MT, with some hoping that the d
<v Speaker 1>RAM maker could help produce more consumer RAM while the
<v Speaker 1>bigger players like Samsung pivot to supporting companies hungry for
<v Speaker 1>parts and memory to power future.
<v Speaker 2>AI data centers.
<v Speaker 1>The idea being that while the big RAM makers focus
<v Speaker 1>on that, CXMT will be there for the little guys
<v Speaker 1>AKPC aka PC gamers looking to upgrade their rigs without
<v Speaker 1>taking out a.
<v Speaker 2>Loan to do so.
<v Speaker 1>Cxmt thirty two gigabyte DDR four ram reportedly is selling
<v Speaker 1>for less than one hundred and fifty dollars online, and
<v Speaker 1>that caught the attention of a lot of gamers. Even
<v Speaker 1>though DDR four is older and slower than DDR five,
<v Speaker 1>it represented a more affordable option and results have shown
<v Speaker 1>that it performs pretty close to anything else that is
<v Speaker 1>equivalent and is often much more affordable.
<v Speaker 2>So that's the good news.
<v Speaker 1>The bad news is in the last few weeks, cxmt
<v Speaker 1>ram has also gone up in price, something noted by
<v Speaker 1>Tech Spot and others. The company can't produce nearly as
<v Speaker 1>much as its biggest competitors, and it is likely raising
<v Speaker 1>prices as demand increases, shattering some gamers hopes that CXMT
<v Speaker 1>would be the hero they hoped for in the ongoing
<v Speaker 1>memory shortage. So I mean, just to put this like plainly,
<v Speaker 1>what has happened here? You know, s Kehnez, Micron, and Samsung,
<v Speaker 1>their RAM has gone up a lot in cost and
<v Speaker 1>price because AI has been their focus and all that
<v Speaker 1>AI like memory, the high bandwidth memory is being sold
<v Speaker 1>to them, and so they're putting all their focus on that,
<v Speaker 1>and their previous business of selling consumer RAM has been
<v Speaker 1>either ignored or like kind of completely taken off the
<v Speaker 1>table in the case of Micron. That demand, though, isn't
<v Speaker 1>just happening in the AI space. There was increased demand
<v Speaker 1>for traditional DDR five memory and DDR four memory even.
<v Speaker 2>And that is also causing the price to go up.
<v Speaker 1>And now because these other providers are not meeting the demand,
<v Speaker 1>CXMT is getting more attention, which translates to more demand,
<v Speaker 1>which translates to higher costs.
<v Speaker 2>They also are.
<v Speaker 1>Not gonna be able to scale up and be able
<v Speaker 1>to make a ton a ton more like uh like
<v Speaker 1>fabrication facilities to produce this stuff overnight, so that demand
<v Speaker 1>is not gonna suddenly be met by supply because CXMT
<v Speaker 1>decides to do so.
<v Speaker 2>So cost will likely go up there as as well.
<v Speaker 1>That doesn't mean that like this is going to be
<v Speaker 1>like a situation where they're going to be selling their
<v Speaker 1>memory for as much as these other companies, but it's
<v Speaker 1>not going to be some major discount. And like Zach
<v Speaker 1>said in the beginning of the story, not the silver bullet.
<v Speaker 3>Right, Yeah, Greb. It's just very it's not fun, but
<v Speaker 3>it is entertaining to see a lot of gamers and
<v Speaker 3>other tech people put their hopes overseas because they know
<v Speaker 3>that there is nothing for us over here, despite whatever,
<v Speaker 3>despite whatever governments local governments here will say of like, no,
<v Speaker 3>we're gonna we're gonna build facilities. Yeah, sure, okay, cool,
<v Speaker 3>build the facilities, and we know that the fuck if
<v Speaker 3>you somehow managed to build those facilities, get the resources,
<v Speaker 3>train the people, we fucking know that you won't be
<v Speaker 3>serving the public or the consumer. You will just go
<v Speaker 3>straight back to the fucking sam Altman's of the world.
<v Speaker 2>Yep. And that includes CXMT.
<v Speaker 1>They have allocated twenty percent of their RAM capacity for
<v Speaker 1>producing RAM to AI, for sewing it to AI companies.
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, grub I I think folks will at this
<v Speaker 3>point know that we are against the proliferation of AI.
<v Speaker 3>But for anyone out there that is still on the fence,
<v Speaker 3>fucking go touch grass. You have a fucking human life
<v Speaker 3>with this.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's not anything it does, Like, even if you
<v Speaker 1>like it, it's not work. It's not good enough to
<v Speaker 1>justify what is happening here. This is this is like
<v Speaker 1>it's going to have this knock on effect where people
<v Speaker 1>are gonna just like leave gaming and it's gonna have
<v Speaker 1>a detrimental effect like, oh, you'll be able to make
<v Speaker 1>whatever game you want using AI.
<v Speaker 2>Good luck with that. Probably not.
<v Speaker 1>And even if you can, no one's gonna care anymore
<v Speaker 1>because they'll just move on to other hobbies because it's
<v Speaker 1>gonna get too expensive. You're still gonna need a local
<v Speaker 1>machine of some sort to do this stuff, and you're on.
<v Speaker 1>I have to pay seven hundred dollars for a machine
<v Speaker 1>that has four gigabytes of RAMS so I can access
<v Speaker 1>the RAM you have in the cloud.
<v Speaker 2>Fuck off, and.
<v Speaker 3>It's gonna continue to try and kill other forms of entertainment.
<v Speaker 3>I saw a skeet of this dude saying I raised
<v Speaker 3>thirty k to make an AI movie. What should I
<v Speaker 3>make it on? It's because that dumb fuck doesn't have
<v Speaker 3>any original ideas. Yes, that would be so stupid, because
<v Speaker 3>like I'm gonna rip my hair out grub Anyway. I
<v Speaker 3>say all this to say, fucking go use your fucking
<v Speaker 3>human body. Go fucking experience life. Don't have AI dead
<v Speaker 3>tell you what your grocery list should be. Go fucking eat.
<v Speaker 3>Go eat like a trash panda. Go get some crazy puffs.
<v Speaker 3>Oh definitely, go get some crazy puffs.
<v Speaker 2>Don't make your.
<v Speaker 3>Own lude art of rouge the bat, even if it's bad, or.
<v Speaker 2>Hire someone to do it. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, man, that guy was like thirty five thousand dollars?
<v Speaker 2>What should I be doing? I was thinking sci fi?
<v Speaker 2>It's a bit. You haven't even decided the genre. What
<v Speaker 2>are you talking about? What do you mean? Sci fi?
<v Speaker 1>But that's too obvious for like, you suck, dude, you
<v Speaker 1>suck so bad.
<v Speaker 3>Go fall down some stairs. No one likes you, you
<v Speaker 3>don't have any friends.
<v Speaker 1>Clearly, Oh man, Okay, who gives them thirty five thousand dollars.
<v Speaker 1>The population of gamers speaking of is shrinking past pre
<v Speaker 1>pandemic levels, according to industry reports. This is from Alex
<v Speaker 1>Hopley at Game Reactor. More games want more of your
<v Speaker 1>time than ever before. You've probably noticed. If they're not
<v Speaker 1>after your money, they're after your time, so you spend
<v Speaker 1>all the free hours you have grinding for that next battle,
<v Speaker 1>past level or limited time skin. It's a trend we're
<v Speaker 1>only likely to see increase. Companies will be forced to
<v Speaker 1>make the most out of a shrinking gaming population. According
<v Speaker 1>to research by industry analyst matthew Ball, gaming populations have
<v Speaker 1>been shrinking in major markets across the world. You'd expect
<v Speaker 1>that when comparing the figures to pandemic levels, as people
<v Speaker 1>had little else to do except for game during the
<v Speaker 1>COVID nineteen lockdowns. However, we're getting to a stage now
<v Speaker 1>where the number of gamers is dropping below the numbers
<v Speaker 1>it saw prior to the height of lockdowns and territory
<v Speaker 1>territories like the United States and Canada. Why is this Well,
<v Speaker 1>it seems that video games are losing the war of
<v Speaker 1>our attention. We've talked about this a bunch in the
<v Speaker 1>same period in the same period analyzed by Ball, we
<v Speaker 1>see that TikTok watch time increased by fifty million hours
<v Speaker 1>in the United States. Spending on OnlyFans also more than
<v Speaker 1>doubled in that same timeframe. Good for all them. In
<v Speaker 1>Liman's terms, gooning and scrolling is beating gaming these days,
<v Speaker 1>it seems.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, who wrote.
<v Speaker 1>This, Jan This is Alex Hopley over at Game Reactor
<v Speaker 1>Differ Alex Okay, yep, just really making it so we
<v Speaker 1>can understand what's going on here speaking our language. Yeah, Look,
<v Speaker 1>I think gaming's just stagnated, right. I think that's what's
<v Speaker 1>happened here. I think that like it's going below pre
<v Speaker 1>pandemic levels. Well, we're still playing the games from pre pandemic.
<v Speaker 1>It's still Fortnite all these other things, Like Overwatch is
<v Speaker 1>one of the most exciting games right now, and there's
<v Speaker 1>nothing wrong with that. But I think, I think gaming
<v Speaker 1>is a an industry, a medium that has thrived on
<v Speaker 1>innovation and novelty, and a lot of the people who
<v Speaker 1>are responsible for that are now in a position where
<v Speaker 1>taking chances on innovation and novelty is so prohibitively expensive
<v Speaker 1>that they're afraid that if they do that, their whole
<v Speaker 1>company will collapse and the'll lose their jobs and their
<v Speaker 1>stock price.
<v Speaker 2>Will tank and all this stuff.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I think the industry just kind of is
<v Speaker 1>in this weird point where it's like, hey, we're waiting
<v Speaker 1>for the next big thing that kind of wins people over,
<v Speaker 1>even if it's like the next among us or whatever.
<v Speaker 1>We haven't had had one of those in a little
<v Speaker 1>bit of time really since the pandemic, Like there hasn't
<v Speaker 1>been some new thing come along and win people over.
<v Speaker 1>All the things that are happening. There are still trends
<v Speaker 1>from that time, including like our graders arc greaders delivering
<v Speaker 1>on the extraction concept that became popular kind of going
<v Speaker 1>into the pandemic and then during the pandemic. So that's
<v Speaker 1>the problem to me, jan am I missing anything no grub.
<v Speaker 3>I think. On top of that, there is like a
<v Speaker 3>level of passive consuming that has like quietly crept over
<v Speaker 3>and taken over a lot of people's attention spans since
<v Speaker 3>the pandemic, where you know, video games you do have
<v Speaker 3>to be a favorite level of engaged, even your miscllaneous
<v Speaker 3>gotcha games or your random clickers out there, Like there
<v Speaker 3>is a level of engagement where you have your focus
<v Speaker 3>has to be tuned in, and maybe the only other
<v Speaker 3>thing you can do is listen to music, listen to
<v Speaker 3>a podcast, listen to an audiobook. Meanwhile, there are people
<v Speaker 3>out there that that can't sit down anymore and focus
<v Speaker 3>on a video game. There that's why short form view
<v Speaker 3>videos are a big threat to companies. Specifically Xbox Is
<v Speaker 3>highlighted that as one of their primary forms of competition.
<v Speaker 3>How gaming battles that. I don't think there's an easy
<v Speaker 3>one to one to try and draw up, but I
<v Speaker 3>think just the current world where we live in, where
<v Speaker 3>people are just looking for quick distractions because the world
<v Speaker 3>is on fire, is just how it's going to be.
<v Speaker 3>And also where since we've exited the pandemic and people
<v Speaker 3>have returned to whatever normalcy we're at right now, they
<v Speaker 3>don't have the time, and like prices are increasing across
<v Speaker 3>the board.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's a big part of it.
<v Speaker 3>And also, like one of the big pandemic games that
<v Speaker 3>a lot of my friends got into that aren't normally
<v Speaker 3>into games is something like Animal Crossing. And I know
<v Speaker 3>that there are many alternatives out there. You know, we've
<v Speaker 3>talked about Hello Kitty Island, Adventure, Disney Illusion Island? Is
<v Speaker 3>it Illusion Island?
<v Speaker 2>The no? I think so?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah that, and of course there is God what's the game?
<v Speaker 3>The star Stardu Valley. Some people only want the brand
<v Speaker 3>name experience that comes with a new console, so they're
<v Speaker 3>just looking for Okay, well, what's the next animal crossing?
<v Speaker 3>They don't have one. I've done what I can with
<v Speaker 3>this Island. I have terraformed fits several times. All my
<v Speaker 3>friends stopped playing, so I'm just.
<v Speaker 2>Dream like yeah, yeah bad.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. So a lot of those people that like don't
<v Speaker 3>play a competitive shooter like a Fortnite even a Call
<v Speaker 3>of Duty war Zone have since moved on because they're
<v Speaker 3>Nintendo didn't like while the Iron was hot to to
<v Speaker 3>kind of keep that audience around.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think yeah, And it's like, can Nintendo like
<v Speaker 1>invent a new one of those?
<v Speaker 2>Is Tomadocci Life going to be that? So? Well, we'll see.
<v Speaker 1>It doesn't feel like that necessarily feels like I'll like it.
<v Speaker 2>It'll be for the.
<v Speaker 1>Audience that has shown up for it before, and maybe
<v Speaker 1>a slightly bigger audience than was on the three DS game.
<v Speaker 1>But I still think, like, uh, even Nintendo's not innovating
<v Speaker 1>like they once were, and all these other companies are
<v Speaker 1>just trying to like deliver on the hits because their
<v Speaker 1>stuff is so expensive now they can they have to
<v Speaker 1>like play to that that very specific audience.
<v Speaker 2>You know.
<v Speaker 1>Sony was asked, Hey, are you going to increase the
<v Speaker 1>price of your console like ram Is is going to
<v Speaker 1>force you into a situation where you're likely either losing
<v Speaker 1>money or at least breaking even on your on your
<v Speaker 1>console that's six years old, So this is a time
<v Speaker 1>where you'd like to be making money on that. And
<v Speaker 1>Sony's response to that was, we will make more money
<v Speaker 1>by base extracting more value from people who are already buying,
<v Speaker 1>who already have our console and are already in our services,
<v Speaker 1>so they're gonna find new ways to monetize us. Sony's
<v Speaker 1>been doing that for years now. That's how prices have
<v Speaker 1>gotten so high. That is why prices went up on
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation Plus and all this stuff.
<v Speaker 2>So they're gonna there.
<v Speaker 1>Their innovation continues to be focused, and this goes for
<v Speaker 1>most companies in the space on the business model side
<v Speaker 1>of things and not on the gaming side of things.
<v Speaker 1>And it feels like we are overdue for that swing
<v Speaker 1>back in that direction, and maybe that is like one
<v Speaker 1>of these big companies does take on a friend slop
<v Speaker 1>idea and like delivers on that in a really big
<v Speaker 1>new way.
<v Speaker 2>But I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>Something about the charm of friends slop is like like
<v Speaker 1>no one's claiming for the really accessible friends slop game.
<v Speaker 1>They the way they were for maybe extraction shooters, like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>when are we gonna get the call of duty the
<v Speaker 1>very easy extraction shooter. Well they did that a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of times, and people like, we're somewhat interested in that.
<v Speaker 1>But friend slop games, the whole idea is anyone could
<v Speaker 1>start playing those. So it's like even some of these
<v Speaker 1>trends are like maybe more at home on the endie
<v Speaker 1>side of things. So these big companies trying to justify
<v Speaker 1>their businesses aren't finding an easy way of like taking
<v Speaker 1>what is happening in the innovative spaces and putting their
<v Speaker 1>own spin on it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I feel like these Triple A studios greb it.
<v Speaker 3>They're such in a weird deadlock position because they don't
<v Speaker 3>it is too costly to make any type of drastic
<v Speaker 3>moves or adjustments to try and innovate that they do
<v Speaker 3>have to play the waiting game, so they're potentially just
<v Speaker 3>losing out on other ideas, and also in the Triple
<v Speaker 3>A space, they're also playing the waiting game, waiting for
<v Speaker 3>GTA six to come out. And I know it's become
<v Speaker 3>a long running joke at this point that G two
<v Speaker 3>six will save the industry, But how does that save
<v Speaker 3>the industry?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think it will make the overall the headline,
<v Speaker 1>the top line number look really strong, and then you'll
<v Speaker 1>go in there and be like, oh man, here's another
<v Speaker 1>news story about.
<v Speaker 2>How Ubisoft is just completely falling out part and yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it will bring in back.
<v Speaker 1>So it will bring back many of those people have
<v Speaker 1>lapsed as gamers, but it's not the.
<v Speaker 2>Solution to like the long term solution.
<v Speaker 1>And really it's like it's going to be another one
<v Speaker 1>of those platforms where they try to get you in
<v Speaker 1>there and here's a bunch of different community created games
<v Speaker 1>inside of Grand Theft Auto six. We're going to try
<v Speaker 1>to get you play in that way forever. And it's like, now,
<v Speaker 1>that's that's most of these things now, Fortnite and roeblocks,
<v Speaker 1>And I think that contributes greatly to that stagnation and
<v Speaker 1>is not the sort of thing that will break this
<v Speaker 1>trend that we're on.
<v Speaker 2>But less thing about this we should move on.
<v Speaker 1>The solution isn't trying to like make games that feel
<v Speaker 1>more like TikTok, right, like fast quick hits slot machine
<v Speaker 1>style feelings.
<v Speaker 3>No, and like that ties into something I wanted to
<v Speaker 3>bring up, where like I UGC has kind of become
<v Speaker 3>unwieldly grub and it's it's become the wild West out
<v Speaker 3>there because of how creators are taking advantage of audiences,
<v Speaker 3>especially or taken advantage of I mean, we've seen it
<v Speaker 3>across roadblocks. Who knows what GTA six is going to
<v Speaker 3>try and implement, but yeah, Greby, it's uh, it just
<v Speaker 3>makes me upsetty spaghetti.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, yep, it's yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Continues to be a weird industry that's always changing and
<v Speaker 1>now maybe especially weird because it's changing less in some
<v Speaker 1>ways than it ever has before.
<v Speaker 2>It's yeah, it's odd, all right.
<v Speaker 1>Last thing here, the Dusk blood adverts are also now
<v Speaker 1>appearing online. This is from my Nintendo News, following on
<v Speaker 1>from the news yesterday that the Dusk Bloods has now
<v Speaker 1>popped up popped up on the Nintendo E Shop under
<v Speaker 1>the new Releases section, and a Finish Retailer listed the
<v Speaker 1>game as a March twenty seventh release date. That's certainly
<v Speaker 1>just a placeholder, because that's in five friggin weeks. Multiple
<v Speaker 1>adverts have appeared across the web, including on Reddit. This
<v Speaker 1>all seems to suggest that something is set to happen
<v Speaker 1>soon with that Nintendo switch to exclusive from From Software.
<v Speaker 1>Do you get the sense that something's going to happen soon?
<v Speaker 1>Because I was like, man, this game could just come
<v Speaker 1>out much later this year, But now, yeah, they're putting
<v Speaker 1>out adverts, advertisements, If they have commercials up on websites,
<v Speaker 1>maybe they are going to get ready to talk about
<v Speaker 1>this thing soon at a direct on their own.
<v Speaker 2>What do you think.
<v Speaker 3>I feel like we had a story fairly recently where
<v Speaker 3>we're talking about how this may come out later in
<v Speaker 3>the year or yeah, much later in the year than
<v Speaker 3>anyone would actually want.
<v Speaker 2>Cool.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I want to see Dusk Bloods. If we're getting adverts,
<v Speaker 3>I am assuming that the game is in a place
<v Speaker 3>where that From wants it to be what it's going
<v Speaker 3>to necessarily look. If anything, grub I am more interested
<v Speaker 3>to see what Dusk Bloods is, if it's going to
<v Speaker 3>be similar to Night Rain or it's going to be
<v Speaker 3>an amalgamation of Bloodborn, Night Rain and who knows what
<v Speaker 3>else Animal Crossing, then I want to see it.
<v Speaker 1>The latest seems to be it's like, you know, I
<v Speaker 1>think from software games exist on a multiplayer space where
<v Speaker 1>it's like they all have some form of multiplayer, and
<v Speaker 1>the Night Rain was little and that's like, no, this
<v Speaker 1>is a game you're supposed to play multiplayer, and none
<v Speaker 1>of the other games have been that way. But I
<v Speaker 1>think I think this one might be a little bit
<v Speaker 1>more towards the it's better multiplayer side, but I think
<v Speaker 1>it's still primarily going to be a game that you
<v Speaker 1>could play single player without really missing anything. But that
<v Speaker 1>who knows. We'll find out more soon. All right, So
<v Speaker 1>that does it for the headlines. Let's get to the
<v Speaker 1>poll question from yesterday. Excuse me, let's do that real quick.
<v Speaker 1>I'm going to refresh and get the latest results here,
<v Speaker 1>all right, what do you want from the next Sonic
<v Speaker 1>New Sonic three D game, new Sonic two D game?
<v Speaker 1>I want Sonic Frontiers. Personally, Wow, this is a split
<v Speaker 1>result here, Fifty one percent say Sonic three D game
<v Speaker 1>and forty nine percent say New Sonic two D game,
<v Speaker 1>and I just voted for a Sonic three D game,
<v Speaker 1>So I'm sure I'm the one.
<v Speaker 2>Percent there that threw it off being fifty to fifty.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I think this does show that that
<v Speaker 1>Sega should continue doing both on a somewhat regular cadence.
<v Speaker 3>Right, Yeah, I personally, I don't know why I felt
<v Speaker 3>compelled to throw in a vote for the Sonic three
<v Speaker 3>D game, but something just is calling me grub the
<v Speaker 3>story that y'all were talking about yesterday with Lex It
<v Speaker 3>feels like a no brainer to adapt the art style
<v Speaker 3>to replicate the movies, right.
<v Speaker 2>Like, yeah, just be closer to it at least.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm sure there are kids out there that will
<v Speaker 3>look at existing Sonic games and be like.
<v Speaker 2>Mom, Dad, why doesn't it look like the movies?
<v Speaker 3>Why doesn't it look like John Ralphio?
<v Speaker 2>All right, let's see here.
<v Speaker 1>We'll have to come up with a new Poole question,
<v Speaker 1>which I did not do before the show. We'll do
<v Speaker 1>that here in a second. First, let's talk about what's
<v Speaker 1>happening on Giant Bomb today and through the rest of
<v Speaker 1>the week.
<v Speaker 2>What do we have jan in an hour?
<v Speaker 3>That's right, folks, we've moved up the voicemail dump Truck.
<v Speaker 3>It is now at ten am Pacific one pm Eastern,
<v Speaker 3>where we have a dear friend joining us on the
<v Speaker 3>dump truck. Today, Jesse Vittelli aka Young Almo is joining
<v Speaker 3>us on the pod and later today will be the
<v Speaker 3>live premiere of episode maybe we should just call it
<v Speaker 3>episode zero of Marry Me Tomadacci. That's right, Abby Russell
<v Speaker 3>is gonna join us. We're gonna make a bunch of
<v Speaker 3>little Tomadacci mes, have him roam across the island, and
<v Speaker 3>y'all will get to see more about what Marry Me
<v Speaker 3>Talmodacci is gonna be like. Turns out we're gonna have
<v Speaker 3>a winner grub and that winner will fall in love and.
<v Speaker 1>Then all great like like romance. Game shows absolutely exactly.
<v Speaker 3>Tomorrow another episode of Game Mess Mornings, and then we
<v Speaker 3>will have upf of some sort. I thought we were
<v Speaker 3>gonna do Overwatch there, but we did it for Delight Club,
<v Speaker 3>So who knows what we're gonna do tomorrow.
<v Speaker 2>Who wants more? Lord? Oh well, it's Lord only. Fridays
<v Speaker 2>is going to be a new initiative here at Giant Bomb.
<v Speaker 2>Of course.
<v Speaker 1>Man, I wonder, I wonder if the developers of the
<v Speaker 1>Lord are aware it's become a meme for us.
<v Speaker 2>Oh.
<v Speaker 3>That being said, people should check out the Delight Club.
<v Speaker 3>Very fun surprises with Obey the Insect God yesterday, and
<v Speaker 3>some fun Overwatch games as well.
<v Speaker 1>It is the best game about Sambos, which we said,
<v Speaker 1>and then the pr reached out and said, hey, can
<v Speaker 1>we use that quote on the Steam page?
<v Speaker 2>And I was like you absolutely, you can do that.
<v Speaker 2>That is fantastic.
<v Speaker 1>All right, new poole question, what do you think about
<v Speaker 1>Zeno Play Chronicles X's five dollars switch to edition upgrade?
<v Speaker 1>We'll give you much options like it should be free.
<v Speaker 1>I get it, you know, as long as they keep
<v Speaker 1>doing it whatever. We'll get all those up there for
<v Speaker 1>you to post and submit your feelings for this poll
<v Speaker 1>question that we'll get the results of on tomorrow's show
<v Speaker 1>here on Giant Bomb. Thank you everybody, all right? Anything else, jin,
<v Speaker 1>I don't think so.
<v Speaker 3>I know. We had a quick look for re Animal
<v Speaker 3>go up over the weekend. More videos coming out soon, folks,
<v Speaker 3>stay tuned.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you Jan for spinning today talking about video games. Man,
<v Speaker 1>I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>It's the best way to start a Thursday.
<v Speaker 1>Greb, thank you all for watching and listening. You're the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one,
<v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye.
