Speaker 1: Some housekeeping at the top. Okay, a couple of things. Todd father, First, I know you've been thinking about this for weeks. You have new items at foul Territory shop dot com that include baby onesies, baby t shirts, the whole deal. I know you guys make fun of me for wearingish medium. This is a size that I actually won't wear for babies, okay, not for adults trying to look too tight in their shirts.

00:00:30
Speaker 2: Are you you telling us something or.

00:00:33
Speaker 1: I was just getting ahead of just making sure the potential shot fired. It's what I'm gonna's not on. So you guys are a little nicer than me.

00:00:42
Speaker 3: It's what I'm gonna get. It's what I'm gonna get Todd when I'm finished wiping up with him on the court, because he's gonna be my baby.

00:00:52
Speaker 2: Listen, you might be big and everything else, well you have no no rhythm, you have no footwork or for enough. It's okay, I can't wait to see these baby onesies. I gotta be honest with you. I'm really excited about this.

00:01:07
Speaker 1: Do this for me while we're talking. Just go go type in foul Territory Shop or the QR code. Either way, you want to go, yeah, do that, and then check that out while you're doing that. One other thing I would like to point out before we charge. We have been working hard behind the scenes, the team behind the scenes on the look of the show. Right now, it looks really nice. I like the name the foul line for the bottom line of the show. You've got team leaderboard standings, player leaders, little player profile photos. It's it's really nice, very nice.

00:01:48
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, for sure. The little kids look, they look cute. And these they're nice, good call. I like the water bottle, the water bottles stand less steal water bottles for real. Oh my god.

00:02:03
Speaker 1: There are some nice items, so everyone check it out. Foul Territory shop dot com. Let's charge, Let's charge. Do we have a controversy? You know what, Kratz. There are some people that are going to be jealous of showy Otani and of the Dodgers, and no matter what they do, they're going to say it's unfair. So George Springer had a little combo with Umpire yesterday and many people took it as him complaining to say that Otani was taking too long and getting extra time. Apparently that was not the case. Ken Rosenthal did some homework on that, and he explained it at the top of fair territory. I think there are some people that feel as if Otani gets his own rules. But in this particular case, if we went back, what five years ago to a National League pitcher needing a beat, we would have given it to him.

00:03:01
Speaker 3: That's where it's fine. I mean, but you can't you can't say they're not They're They're completely innocent of a shootany getting rules, Like the Dodgers do get an extra pitcher, I mean an extra player on their roster essentially because they can get an extra pitcher because of the sho Heotani rule, which just the whole schematics of it doesn't really allow any other team to do it unless you get I think the threshold's like fifty innings or thirty innings or something like that, which is which is really tough to crew. So you're you're almost like hamstringing yourself until that moment if another team can do it. But look, if a guy's on the basis, we're so far removed from the dh not being in the America, not being in the National League anymore. Like if a pitcher's on base. You're not gonna be like, Hey, come on, time's up now. If he's not on base, Yes, he has to abide by the same rules, but I think you know you would always get that picture. The extra time. Is Show Hey pushing it a little bit? Hey? That's part of the whole like competitive part, Like is this fair or is this not fair?

00:04:11
Speaker 2: Scott? Can you can you explain to us the show Hey rules so everybody can understand for like the listeners out there, like some people are probably what are we talking about? Explain to them first and then I'll get to my point if you don't mind.

00:04:22
Speaker 1: No, I don't want to. I'm kidding.

00:04:26
Speaker 2: Uh.

00:04:27
Speaker 1: The show Hey o Tani rule has to do with the fact that show Hey does not tax you on a picture count because he's designated as a two way player. And what some people think is unfair is that it gives the Dodgers technically an extra picture to use. Anyone can use the show Hey rule. You just need a Show Hey on your team. There happens to be no Show Hey on your team. Krats, What else do you want to add for my elementary example here?

00:04:53
Speaker 3: No, No, it's perfect explanation except the threshold was the threshold was too much. I think major League Baseball could look at it. If they're really interested in having guys that are two way players. Teams could explore. The Royals could explore with Jack Caglione, but to a mass, thirty innings is going to be so tough to me. I think there's a value there. I think there would be some kind of intrigue if Caglione can come in out of the not bullpen, out of the outfield and throw one hundred miles an hour from the left side and they only need to accrue maybe ten innings, and then maybe that would be a little bit more feasible. But they essentially made it out of reach for everybody, which was probably their thought process, so that teams wouldn't manipulate this.

00:05:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, so my question about though, it's not about time like people you're seeing spring or you're seeing guys upset about how long he's taken. There's no rule against time, right.

00:05:56
Speaker 1: No, there is a rule against time there everywhere on our game. But gets a longer clock because he's pitching, So yeah, okay.

00:06:08
Speaker 2: He gets he gets more time when it comes to him, he gets more time. So there's no rules for him because if he's on the base pass, he got to come in. He gets a little more time. I'm I'm saying that right.

00:06:19
Speaker 3: Right, yes, yes.

00:06:21
Speaker 2: So he gets more time and players are getting frustrated, and ultimately, you know, would I be that guy to getting frustrated? Yeah, when I played, I'd be like, hey, what are we doing here? You know? And that's just part of the back and forth banter and baseball, And I don't think anybody should be getting frustrated over about it. I don't think anybody should be getting like, hey, man, what do the Who do the Blue Jays think they are? Who the Dodgers think they are? This is the back and forth battle between players between staffs. And if I'm Sho Tani and I want more time, I'm gonna take as much time as I can until I feel like I'm ready to go out there, until an umpire comes up, Hey, hey, let's go here. You know what I'm saying. I will exude that all day, every day, And if I'm a player on the other side, I'm yelling at the umpire, hey what are we doing here? So again, who's in the wrong. I don't think anybody's in the wrong. I just think, Hey, that's the game a ship of baseball. Like, listen, he might be tired, but get his behind up there. Let's go. I want a tired show, hey, instead of a guy that's enlightened and ready to rock. That's the only thing I got to say about that part.

00:07:25
Speaker 1: Hey, we're here, let's talk about segeek. Todd Father knows what's up. Over thirty five million downloads. It's the number one rateed ticketing app. It's Territory ten for ten percent off tickets. It's the green is good, it's the red is bad on there, and we've let everyone know exactly what they should be looking for within the app, how they can get the discount. But what we should do nice and fresh today is see if there's a game that we should pick out for everyone. I mean, it's Thursday, there's not a ton of action. But have about tonight. We got three tonight, Todd Father, you got White Sox and Royals. I know where you're going. We got Diamondbacks and Mets at warda read Rigez against Nolan McLain and then the Rockies are in San Diego. Don't sleep on Randy Vazquez. By the way, and how much he's changed as a pitcher, and it was like a number seven starter and now kind of looks like a number three starter for the Padres. But anyway, I know where you're going.

00:08:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go to I mean, the Yankee game already started, So I'm gonna head the I'm gonna go to Queens. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you quite a little subway ride the Queens. I'm gonna watch the Diamondbacks by the Mets. Who's gonna squander? Who's gonna win that series? Say when Nol mcclan's got that sweet or that nasty pitch. So Diamondbacks found a way to win yesterday and we'll see Bundle up. It's gonna be a little nippy up here tonight. Uh it is.

00:08:47
Speaker 1: It's been really freaking cold this week. We are back to winter weather in New York City area. The code for you is Territory one zero ten percent off your next set of tickets at seat Geek. With that promo code makes you the link in the description to download the app and have the code automatically added to your account so you can use it later, and I.

00:09:06
Speaker 3: Don't think they need to put rules around it, like, oh, you know, he was running the bases. There's two outs. If there's less than three pitches to the next batter, then he needs a break. Like but I think there is some letting, letting the umpires police this and being like, hey, we got to get this out here. But also you're going to get a note from Major League Baseball if you rush the show. Hey, out to the mound and something happens to him. Last thing we ever wont is injuries. But you can't cater to one player. So I think it's like, like like what Todd said, it is a it is gamesmanship on both sides. And if I'm Dave Roberts, I'm sticking up for my player no matter what. I don't even care if he doesn't hit yeah at all in that inning or the last two innings. My guy can sit on if I can use that, and he needs that rest. He needs that time. Absolutely, you take your time.

00:10:01
Speaker 2: Dave Robert Yeah, I'm gonna give you a funny example. I'm at a high school game today, literally ten am game, and this is so far from Major League Baseball, but it's funny as all hell. I'm at a high school game today. Kids round in third base gets thrown out by a lot I'm looking at my brother. It's my nephew's game, and the kid wasn't running. I'm like, something's wrong with this kid. So they go to him. They can't play the kid. I guess he hurt himself, his ankle or something. It's been like five minutes now, nobody's going to left field in the position. Ten minutes after, we see the kid coming out of the john and I guess he was going to the bathroom. He comes out and the parents are screening. Bro, you gotta go play left field. He goes, I can't even take a dump let alone, you know, enjoy the game. So the kid had to run out, pinch it go in the left field. My man took his good old time in the bathroom there, and he had no clue what was going on. I just thought it was pretty funny. That's just baseball. One oh one, I got it.

00:10:56
Speaker 1: They gave him. They gave him a five minute bathroom break during the game.

00:11:01
Speaker 2: No, the inning ended and the dude was in the bathroom.

00:11:04
Speaker 1: Oh he was still in And then they were waiting for him.

00:11:07
Speaker 2: He had no clue that he was supposed to go to left field because the dude got hurt. It was just it was a spectacle. Everybody was laughing, Hey, what are you gonna do? I'mpire waiting until he got out. That was nice.

00:11:18
Speaker 3: Never, I would never poop during a game. There's not a chance. All poop. Always got scared back in Oh when I was when I was in the game, because there's unless I was sick, Like I was, tell him, sick, sick, you are not pooping in the game, No chance because of that. Like I'm worried. I'm sweating for that kid.

00:11:36
Speaker 2: I people know me. I had a big incident when I was nine years old, ten years old, and it ran down my leg and thank god we have black pants on the My coach said, Todd, you're coming in the pitch. I said, oh my god. I did one warm up pitch. Next pitch, a kid had a triple three runs. I ran to the bathroom. Everybody's crying because we're out of the All Stars. I was just glad to get out of there and get all that off of nightmare or night mere as.

00:12:04
Speaker 1: You said, nightmre.

00:12:07
Speaker 2: Well, Yes, that was It was just fun. Stuff that happens that people remember, like, yeah, guy had to go to the bathroom. Give him it's time. Okay, show Hey wants an extra minute or two. Other team's going to be pissed, but Dodgers are going to have his back. That's all good stuff, right.

00:12:23
Speaker 1: So, like I was saying, show Hay pitched well, that team ultimately lost it as a comeback win for the Blue Jays, and Otani said that he wasn't feeling great on the mound. That makes you think are the Dodgers worried? Are they going to try and slow play it even more than the once a week or so start. We do have Doc Roberts sound I do want to just sneak that in here.

00:12:44
Speaker 2: Real quick too, you know what I think?

00:12:48
Speaker 4: Just talking about the World Series, obviously they were a little frustrated about, you know how long show Hey takes, you know, emmy twin innings. But if he's on the basis, you know, there's got to be some grace, which I think the umpires trying to give him. But yeah, I mean, if you're on the other side, you're trying to rush him as much as possible and treat him like any other pitcher. But you know, the truth is is that he's different and so but I understand that they're they're right, Yeah, and for.

00:13:15
Speaker 1: The days, they were able to stamp a six game losing skid, so they'll take whatever I mean. Flatty Junior was celebrating after the game two hands up, like, gosh, we've had a week Otani. This is the quote. If you're looking at it. I'm not going to read the whole thing, but you know, he was not pleased with his performance, despite the run prevention results looking pretty good. He said, there was fatigue from consecutive games on the road, so take it for what it is. The Only thing that I'm thinking about is does show, hey, Otani make enough starts to win a cy Young Award. When you hear a postgame comment like that, and I feel like he's pretty straightforward, I'm concerned. I think they will be a point or two this season where the Dodgers try and ease off him, even more so than they already are doing with the rest days. With all of that being said, I just think it's going to be difficult for him. I know that. I said, I think he has a chance, but Kratz, he's going to create I think quite a whole now MVP, as long as he stays healthy, Locke, that's an auto. We don't even really need to waste time on that. But Si Young to me is interesting. That's a bucket list goal for him. But it's just going to be difficult as the age gets higher in number, with the injury history, where the Dodgers are as a team, they don't desperately need thirty stars out of him, They'll take twenty.

00:14:34
Speaker 3: Come on, Dodgers fans, Come on, Dodgers fans, Bring it on. He's not gonna win a sy Young. And that's okay, Like I'm not saying he like if he wants to, he could set his mind to it. He would have to eliminate something. He would have to eliminate the rest so that he's ready for the postseason not going to happen. He would have to eliminate the fact that the Dodgers could really care less if he wins a cy Young. He would have to eliminate constantly hitting every single day because there is a wear and tear. Is that wear and tear different than other people? Absolutely, And we're talking about him going from like a number one to a cy Young award winner, Like we're not talking about him like stop like not hitting as much so that he can like become a number one. He's a legitimate number one. He has the stuff to do it. The whole package will not allow him to be a cy Young. That's okay, like that, that is totally fine. I just don't see it happening because I don't think that Dodgers could care less if he wins a cy Young or not. And so he won't get his starts, he won't get his strikeouts, he won't get his innings. He will get another MVP.

00:15:50
Speaker 2: Let me ask you, guys this question. Is is it safe to say? And I'm hearing it from you, I think this is your answer. But if he doesn't get a certain amount of starts, is he still the automatic MVP? Yes, A Bill you think so?

00:16:09
Speaker 3: Yes, Yes, I don't think.

00:16:11
Speaker 2: I don't think it's a lock. I don't think it's a lock if he doesn't, if he's not getting all those starts. In my opinion, I'm not saying he won't, but I don't think it's a lock if he's not. If he's not a two way player and he's just hitting all of a sudden and not much my opinion.

00:16:26
Speaker 3: You have to tell me, you have to tell me who, what type of season I don't even care what player, what type of season is going to take a guy that, let's say he only makes fifteen starts, he's gonna make way more than fifteen starts, is going to take Shoheo Tani's MVP award away from him because he's gonna hit. He's going to hit. He's shown that he did it as a DH. How many dhs have ever won an MVP like I think two before that Noe that is his award. Everyone else is playing for second place.

00:16:58
Speaker 2: And I'm not saying you're wrong, and I agree with you one hundred percent. Kyle Schwarber goes off and gets fifty and one hundred and thirty. No, okay, I'm just telling you we got we got guys that could do that. And I'm only saying this. I'm only saying this. If he doesn't, all of a sudden, they're like, oh, we're not going to throw him for a month or two and let it go, and all of a sudden and he you know, I'm not saying he won't, but I'm saying there's guys out there that can all of a sudden take off and be right there where he is. But nobody's on his level. Remember that, I don't want people coming at me. Nobody's on his level. I get it. But if he's not that white player the whole time, then then we there's other options that might have, might very much might have an opportunity.

00:17:42
Speaker 1: If they give him a month off and he ends up with nineteen starts, he's still winning it. Then the differential that would have to be created with his overall hitting and pitching stats versus anybody else is so so drastic. You basically need a and you need an all around player. I mean, not no knock on shore, but he's just he's just a DH So that was an easy one for him last year. But you need like a judge or a wit to even give it a shot. And then you need Shohey's number of starts to be pretty low because you know he's gonna perform. I mean, he's got a double oer right now or a triple O.

00:18:19
Speaker 2: What happens if he doesn't all of a sudden, they look back now, they go back home and whatever, Like, hey man, let's see he's up on the thrown. We're not gonna throw you here. We'll wait till the All Star But just for saying he's just a hitter now, is it still is it's still a lock.

00:18:34
Speaker 3: Yes, still a lock, because then his hitting is then his hitting is just going to increase. I see his hitting go down a little bit, but he's unlocked some different levels with his hitting in the last few years when he hasn't been the one year where he didn't pitch, and then last year he came back. I think he made eighteen starts. He was coming back and rehabbing through that, so he was still doing other things. If he takes a month off of pitching, two months off of pitching, he's still going to hit, and I think it'll elevate his hitting and then he's going to come back in the second half and make ten to twelve starts. Obviously, this is all hypothetical. Nobody's catching them to me. To me, you're going to have to have like a Ronald Vicuna or a Corbin Carrol that could go, you know, fifty to fifty type of season and then Shohey only having thirty homers and twelve starts. I think may still catch him like that's that's how much of a difference there is when you're pitching, when you're starting. It's not like he's just coming in a bullpen and getting a save or something, which would still be crazy. Is otherworldly. So when people, when Major League Baseball players vote for the best player in the game, I'll say it again, you guys are idiots.

00:19:48
Speaker 2: Idiots.

00:19:49
Speaker 1: Okay, Oh, we all knew this was going to happen, and we're not even ten percent into the season, so it's definitely going to play out this way for the rest of the year, amcrats. The National League Central has more winning teams right now than all of the American League. The Reds, Brewers, Pirates, and Cardinals are all above the five hundred mark. In the American League, you have the Yankees, the Guardians, and the Rangers. This detailed tweet put together by our friend Bob Nightingale. He also posted last night, I believe the record right now is forty eight and thirty. I think he posted, Yeah, the National League demolishing the American League in matchups at the moment, I mean Central.

00:20:36
Speaker 3: Sorry, sorry, everybody in Antal Central is starting to spend money. Sorry, the Brewers got a Brandon Woodriff, spent a lot of money on Brandon Woodriff and kind of in free agency qualifying offer clubs. Clubs are spending money and Central's ruining baseball. That's it. It's just unfair. They have such an advantage over everybody else. They don't have as much travel as the East and West Coast teams. This is gonna that something needs to change, probably a salary cap.

00:21:05
Speaker 1: Actually, in addition to that, what I think they should do Todd Father, is I think every team needs to start from the same exact location for their travel. It's totally unfair. The Midwest travels less, So everybody has to be in the exact equidistant part of the country wherever that is, and then you begin your road trips.

00:21:24
Speaker 2: Very well, very well said yeah, I listen, there's nothing you can do. This is how it always happens. The Pirates come out hot, they'll fizzle, the Brewers are gonna be up there, and it's in the reds. I mean, I'm hoping the Cardinals keep cooking. But yeah, it's nice. I'm not mad about this at all. This is great. This is great for baseball. Midwest gets a little love. They get some excitement in there, and listen, we need all this for baseball too. Get all the teams above five hundred. Lot of parody here, a lot of parody. The baseball is starting to come around with you know, a couple owners starting to spend a little bit more so that that's the best part about baseball. You spend some, you get good in return.

00:22:07
Speaker 3: On a serious note, this division is going to beat each other up. I don't think it's going to beat each other up like the National League East or the American League East. I think they're going to beat each other up because they don't have the quintessential doormat that they've had for years. You look back in the even in like the two thousands, early two thousands to two thousand and ten or twelve, when the Astros were in the Central and the Cardinals would beat up on them. The Pirates sucked and the Cardinals would beat up on them, and the Cubs would suck and the Cardinals would beat up on them. Like there's a change in the NL Central. The Reds made the playoffs last year. I think the Reds pitching is too freaking good to not make the playoffs. That's why I picked them. Even with Hunter Green down and their offenses starting to come together. You have a Sal Stewart in that lineup, and then you go over to the Pirates. They're not going to be a doormat. Do I think they're a playoff team? No?

00:23:04
Speaker 2: Do.

00:23:04
Speaker 3: I think they have a scary, scary playoff pitcher in Paul Skins if they make it. And should that city get playoffs, Yes, because the freaking fans come out there and they absolutely love their team, and I couldn't find a better place to go when they do a blackout night in the playoffs in Pittsburgh. All that to say, the favorite for the division was supposed to be the Cubs, and I think the Cubs are currently they're flags flying in last place, so this division is so much better. I think the Cardinals will still end in last place. I think their pitching is young, and young pitching doesn't necessarily able to hold up the bullpen. So I think there's a lot going in on in this division that hasn't gone on there in the general last five years, not necessarily last year, but different things are going to happen in that division that I think will precipitate these types of like whoa, Okay, these teams are pretty good, and I think they are pretty good, but I think the division is just it's laid out differently, and so it'll be interesting to see how many teams actually finish above five hundred.

00:24:12
Speaker 1: Yeah, And for a good example of how this is going to average itself out, let's go to the American League West. Right now, the Seattle Mariners have the worst record in baseball. They are four and nine. That's not going to continue. I'll say it again, that's not going to continue. Take three. That's going I'm just kidding, or is it now? I do not think it is. The Rangers are the only team above five hundred in that division by what a game. But the Astros are one game under five hundred. The Angels for now are one game under five hundred. But I want to focus on Houston for a moment. They just got swept by the Rockies and they had one of the disaster innings of the year in terms of injuries. Also, I think they have a five runs in the inning that we're talking about here, which is the second inning of that game. Jake Myers leaves mid at bat hurt. Christian Javier warming up doesn't appear for that second inning. They had a feeling something was wrong because I saw j Blue Bob was warming up in the bullpen for the Astros. But Javier's dealt with a ton of injury and issues over the past few years, so now we're at a point where for him it's right shoulder tightness talking about Xavier, and its lower back tightness for Jake Myers, and it adds to an injury list that is racking up for Houston right now. Positive side of things, as you just saw on the screen one click before this was Christian Walker, who's off to a six start best first couple of weeks. I think that he's had to start a season in his career, so it looks like maybe he was just getting his feet wet last year. But overall, Kratz, that was a nightmare inning for the Astros, and we'll see how much they can take to their pitching staff. I mean, Chandler Rome was tweeting during the game yesterday like they're about to face the Mariners, the division champs them last year, and I don't know who's pitching in this series coming up.

00:26:03
Speaker 3: I mean, that might be fine. If you watched the Mariners hit right now, So I would definitely just roll into the series and be like, Okay, we're gonna take our six era and we're not going to try to poke the hornet's nest there. Because the Mariners are about to break out. It could be a bad time for the Astros to be playing them, but we'll see, we'll see, because they haven't hit yet. But yes, it's a nightmar. It's a nightmar for the Astros because they're hitting like they're crushing it. And how much did they add to their pitching. They went out and got tattoo you I who was touted as a yeah, you know, what kind of contract could this guy get? And then all of a sudden, the league was like, wait a minute, we're not sure how much we want to pay for a guy who essentially has one above average major league pitch and that's his slider, and he has two big league pitches. But they don't feel like a two pitch starting pitcher should be getting more than eighteen million dollars a year. So he's going to have to take a brunt a huge part of this load for this team, and the games are a lot longer for the Astros. I say that because you had Hater in the in the back end of the bullpen. And look what happened in September. This team faded at the end, not because Hater wasn't there, but because they didn't have that shutdown inning at the end of every game. All of a sudden, you're playing eight inning games. It makes it way easier to be able to figure out six out of your starter, you know, one out of a bray You, and then you're just kind of questioning where that eighth inning is going to come from. Now, all of a sudden, a bray You has to slide into that role. They may need to use him a little bit more. And all of a sudden, your starters aren't going very long and Hunter Brown is down. Who was your seven inning guy every five days? So yeah, I'm not saying they're cooked. I'm saying they're in the spot that they did not want to be in in April, with how little it did, how very few additions they made to this pitching staff.

00:28:05
Speaker 1: A couple more things to hit in hot corner. First Off, suspensions were announced soon after our show on Wednesday. But here's the little caveat Kratz. The seven Games that were given out to Solayer and to Rinaldo Lopez were immediately turned into five games for Lopez. He agreed with the league to knock that down, so they both appealed. I haven't seen an answer on so Lair yet, but Lopez reaches that agreement for five AKA, he's not missing a start. So Grandma Cauley has been on the show before laid it out for us. You've got Thursday's off day to reset the rotation and then you can just get right back to Lopez in less than a week. Wow, they really punished him. I mean, you lose some money, some game checks, but that's it.

00:28:52
Speaker 3: What are they punishing him for getting charged?

00:28:56
Speaker 1: That's They did give him five games though, So it's like, if you don't believe in him getting punished and don't give the suspension out, we're going to give a five game suspension Like it means like what are we doing? It literally means I know, right, even in cases, here's the thing. If you think that someone like this should be suspended, right, krat said, no, I'm not sure where I'm at. I didn't play, so don't listen to me. But Todd father, if you think that a starting pitcher in this situation should have been suspended. Five games doesn't do anything, No.

00:29:28
Speaker 2: It does well. They lose a lot of money, of course, But for him playing wise, yeah, yeah, I get that he threw a punch with a baseball in his hand and actually landed it, so that that deserves the suspension in my book, Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not sure what the right thing is. Take the five days. He'll be ready to go, and I'm sure he'll be throwing somewhere and he'll get everything he needs to get done before his next start. And you know, Celeira probably come down there. If he gets five, then Cilaire should definitely get five as well. In my opinion, I disagree with that.

00:30:05
Speaker 3: You can't have dudes charging the mound. I get it. Seven days is seven days is a lot, but you got to set a precedent. You can't have dudes charge in the mound. But to me, like you prove major ly. Baseball proved my point. They gave him five days. It doesn't matter. Like he's not missing a start, he's not hurting his team. His actions were not deemed to be that big of a deal. But they're they're putting the suspension out there because you know they're to me, it's just eye watched.

00:30:35
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:30:36
Speaker 1: And also just to be clear, so it's five games, right, so you have the off day Thursday, but then he already missed Wednesday, so that counted as one game. Then they got a three gamer this weekend, so that's getting you to four. Doesn't pitch Monday and he can pitch on Tuesday.

00:30:52
Speaker 3: No, it's five games, five games.

00:30:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I said, So it's five games, not five days. Thursday is an off day for the team, so he is activated on Tuesday because he accepted that suspension Wednesday to sit Wednesday. So that gets you going, hey, let's get this done quickly. And I do remember a day when this stuff took forever. We'd be waiting on the appeals, and if it was a reliever, you'd just wait until the reliever was used twice and then be like, okay, I'll take the day or two off, thank you. So that part was stupid, and I'd always wonder why it took so long during the you know, the delay with the appeal. But in this case, yeah, he doesn't really get punished and so Lair does. So for some people that think so Leir should get punished a lot more. He is getting punished a lot more. He's getting punished more than five x more. Raynaldo Lopez is essentially not getting punished. You can make a case that he maybe is starting a day later.

00:31:44
Speaker 2: Maybe let me ask let me ask you this. Does he have a day off of those five games? Is that what you guys were just saying.

00:31:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well Thursday the braves are off, so that doesn't count that.

00:31:56
Speaker 3: That was my point.

00:31:57
Speaker 2: Is he getting paid on that off day because that's not a day of five games? You know, I mean that would be six days. Then that he doesn't get paid you know what I'm saying.

00:32:06
Speaker 1: No, but I think you guys get paid on or you used to get paid on games, right, it's it's based on games that it was based.

00:32:13
Speaker 2: On the one hundred and eighty two days.

00:32:16
Speaker 3: I thought, ye, yeah, off days, off days, you do get paid off days.

00:32:22
Speaker 2: Is he not going to get paid that day? Is what I'm asking. Do they take that off even though that's not five games?

00:32:28
Speaker 3: They would just take five five days of pay off? They wouldn't.

00:32:31
Speaker 2: They wouldn't either way, either way, either way.

00:32:33
Speaker 3: Either way, And it doesn't like honestly, all that money goes to charity anyway. So to me charge the mound, hit a guy, all that stuff you should get. You know, your favorite charity just got boosted up. So thank you, Ronaldo Lopez.

00:32:48
Speaker 1: That's right. That part's good. We love that. Here's some bad news that I thought got almost no attention yesterday, and I was surprised Zach Eflin is done for the season.

00:32:58
Speaker 2: I didn't hear.

00:32:59
Speaker 1: Remember, Yeah, it barely got coverage. Kind of weird. He had successful right elbow UCL preconstruction surgery and this was yesterday and he's done though.

00:33:10
Speaker 2: You know he was.

00:33:10
Speaker 1: Getting the elbow checked out, got the surgery. It all happened pretty quick. And the Orioles lose a starter who they paid double digit million dollars this year. I mean that sucks for the oaths. I wasn't knocking the signing at the time. Kratz, And it's an injury that pops up, but this would have been a nice guy to eat some innings for them. Eflyn's I think, got a point in his career where he's not necessarily going to be and he's always had some injury issues, right, I mean, you saw him in Philly. So he's not a one eighty five one ninety guy, but could have hopefully eaten up one hundred and fifty innings for the starting rotation. And he goes down for Baltimore early in the hunt.

00:33:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's tough.

00:33:48
Speaker 3: That's tough when you bring a guy in that had twenty eight starts in twenty four, he had thirty one and twenty three didn't work out. His exact his exact words were, I wanted to go better in Baltimore. Like and he's just he's that kind of guy, Like he's that like gamer type. He has experience of like when he was with the Phillies, he was a starter's whole career, got hurt and then when they made that playoff run, he moved to the bullpen. So you know, he's that like, he's that guy that's okay doing what it takes. And I think this team needed that in the offseason. But I think really what they needed was that top of the rotation guy to add into what I think Bradish is gonna be. He's off to a slow start with Trevor Rodgers clearly shows that he is from last year off to a hot start. I think they needed that other guy, and Zach Efflin was a nice piece, but now you know it tests their depth for sure. Lucas Gilito line too.

00:34:56
Speaker 1: I mean we've been saying that about many teams, that the problem, at least for some is that they feel as if he's going to have to jump into the scene. And there are a lot of recent known cases of pitchers that are not able to figure it out if they signed so late. I think it's totally just my case. Yeah, take your time.

00:35:18
Speaker 3: Right, he's going to cost a fraction of what he was asking for. Clearly what he was asking for was not it. You give him, take the whole take the whole six weeks, whatever your spring training build up is. I don't care where he tells me he is. Take the whole six weeks in Norfolk. You sign two different rehab assignments. Maybe it's not a big league deal. I doubt he doesn't. Doubt he signs a non big league deal just because you can never be guaranteed a spot if they give you a minor league deal. But to me, you take the give him a big league deal three or four million. You say you're gonna do two rehab assignments, down in Norfolk, so it's essentially twenty plus days each time, and then you're ready to go. Don't don't come to me and go. I threw sixty pitches in my last bullpen at Boris's place or Cressy's place, like, do it the real way that it would be a real spring training and then you bring him into the rotation.

00:36:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see what they do. Right, Yeah, ten million bucks Todd father for Ethlyn. He signed pretty late for his age thirty two seasons, so he goes down and I guess he'll put I just.

00:36:32
Speaker 2: Feel like he's been so long. I thought he was a lot older. Don't ask me why. I feel like we've said his name for years.

00:36:39
Speaker 3: He's in his tenth year, he's in his test season, Like that is that is crazy. He'll get it this year. Unfortunately, he'll get it on the il.

00:36:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's thanks m.

00:36:52
Speaker 1: Right, that's it for hot corner. But yeah, for the Orioles. I mean, the rotation still looks better than did last year on paper. But you know, the early injury bite like that really does hurt. You know, We've had a few of these by far, the injuries coming in droves in the past week more than you know spring training usually the arm injuries and the reconstruction, elbow surgery stuff. I mean, it comes throughout the year, but you hear a lot of it in the first few weeks of spring training. I could be wrong on this, but I don't think I am. We did not hear as much about this for known starters in the big leagues this past spring training. It seems to be popping up more frequently here again, now, Kratz, do you agree. I know I mentioned that the other day. We didn't really have a conversation about it, but I do think that we've seen you know, we didn't see as much as we usually saw in spring training, and sure you could. I don't know. I say the World Baseball Classic was part of that, but I just didn't feel like we heard as much, you know, in a good way about players going down, And.

00:37:51
Speaker 3: I'm not mistaken. I don't have the exact number, but Will Carroll when he was on, he said this spring training has been one of the lower and he didn't say a number when we had him on, but Will Carroll of Injury Territory said the number of injury pitcher injuries in spring training is less than has been the previous year. So without the exact number, don't quote me.

00:38:14
Speaker 1: Okay, but that's a show that you can check out to learn more about what's been going on. This week is the relevant week for it for sure. Injury Territory part of the FT Network. Yes, someone asked the other day, They're like, you have a show for injuries. So it's like, yes, we do.

00:38:27
Speaker 2: Well.
