[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Forty K. Lorcats with me, John Barsati, and Brad Chester. [SPEAKER_00]: This guy. [SPEAKER_00]: Today, we're starting the most confusing of all the lesions. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpha lesion. [SPEAKER_01]: So, basically, we won't argue at all. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have to be honest, this is one of those weird ones where it's super confusing, but in a well-written, good way. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm excited about it. [SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: Real quick, pop this stuff off. [SPEAKER_00]: Forty K. Lorkas, the weekly show in the Lord of Warhammer 40K Universe, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m. Eastern. [SPEAKER_00]: All of you freaking rock for all the comments and follows you've done. [SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't done it, please do it. [SPEAKER_00]: It helps us our algorithm massively. [SPEAKER_00]: You get this show and the history of 40K, completely ad-free, or for 31.95 Danish Kroner, because you're just minding your own business, living on the world's largest island. [SPEAKER_00]: Just not bother anyone on the world's largest island. [SPEAKER_00]: Fun fact, Greenland has almost no roads, like back to the future too. [SPEAKER_00]: Most people get around by boat because the only roads are inside the city. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to travel around Greenland, you need a boat. [SPEAKER_00]: It's also home to some of the cleanest air and water on the entire planet. [SPEAKER_00]: And they have polar bears. [SPEAKER_00]: Which is an animal? [SPEAKER_00]: I think ranks the highest on want to see at zoo, not outside of zoo. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because there's 75,000 people that live in Greenland and all of them are at risk for a polar bear attack. [SPEAKER_00]: It's really, I think tigers above it. [SPEAKER_00]: I thought if I'm ranking out stuff, I don't want to open my front door and see. [SPEAKER_00]: I think tigers number one and then polar bears number two, but I'm willing to have this debate with people. [SPEAKER_00]: My mind is not made up, is all I'm saying. [SPEAKER_01]: I really don't want to open my door, ever. [SPEAKER_01]: And see something that goes, ooh, delicious humans. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, jump in the discord if I missed the animal there. [SPEAKER_00]: But I those are the two that come to mind of really cool at zoo, really not cool, not at zoo. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: By the way, lastly is always the most important link in our entire thing though is our Discord. [SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't joined our Discord, join our Discord, 11 and a half thousand people have. [SPEAKER_00]: So you should be part of that. [SPEAKER_00]: And our Discord's epic. [SPEAKER_00]: We just finished our incredible painting competition there. [SPEAKER_00]: That was mans those cotton people were guiding people are talented. [SPEAKER_00]: And somebody made me want to paint less because I feel bad about myself. [SPEAKER_00]: but great spot for questions for telling me I'm wrong about Terminator 2. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not for coming for coming in and just asking Brad and I stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: But also just interacting with other people about hey, what do you like as far as books, literature recommendations, game play recommendations, really anything. [SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful spot. [SPEAKER_00]: How did that go? [SPEAKER_01]: About Terminator movies. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, if I knew how to use discord better, I would have been able to do that poll in two seconds to win that poll. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was nothing showed. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how to use discord and need moderators, more than that poll, because it would have been Terminator 3, would have won with 90. [SPEAKER_00]: I would, Terminator 3 would have won that poll, the way dictators and like central Africa win elections. [UNKNOWN]: No. [UNKNOWN]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Population 500,000, I won by six million. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but anyway, let's get on doing. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get into Alpha Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, a little disclaimer here, guys. [SPEAKER_00]: This has been a fun one to write. [SPEAKER_00]: Every Legion we've covered so far has been kind of easy to write, because they all have a nice linear timeline. [SPEAKER_00]: The Legion is founded by the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: They do a collection of interesting, but not often consequential things while working for the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: The Legion gets to the verge of destruction due to issues they encountered while with the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the Legion finds their prime mark and all is better in the world. [SPEAKER_00]: And then if they finally take a side in the Horus Heresy, flash for 10,000 years forward, those Horus Heresy choices matter. [SPEAKER_00]: That's everyone. [SPEAKER_00]: Except for Alpha Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpha Legion are totally all over the place. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is one of those ones where they're all over the place because GW did a great job. [SPEAKER_00]: I actually think [SPEAKER_00]: Alpha Legion and Orcs are some of the best work GW has done, because they really did a master class in giving you just enough to keep you interested, but never giving you enough to contradict themselves completely. [SPEAKER_01]: beautiful obfuscation. [SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: Which is what the Legion's all about. [SPEAKER_01]: And we're gonna, it's so funny because I'm gonna stick in so much because we've got what we prepared, but also there's so many small things that happen in the Alpha Legion and they also contradict themselves of what they did. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the book opens up with Alpharius from the first person saying this book is a lie. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is fantastic. [SPEAKER_00]: It's incredible. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's get into what we know, don't know kind of know or might be completely wrong about. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'll go this. [SPEAKER_00]: So the Alpha Legion, originally our known as a 20th Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: And that is also a maybe because we're not even sure what we know about the Alpha Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: But let's just go with 20th for now. [SPEAKER_00]: And [SPEAKER_00]: Also real quick note, I don't know with the numbering mechanic because in some readings, some of I've read for this, it says, oh, the 20th Legion was a 20th founded Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: But the Emperor would have had a plan. [SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if numbers actually matter. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know when the primarks even were created. [SPEAKER_00]: We kind of can infer a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like somewhere within a thousand years. [SPEAKER_00]: But the idea of like, hey, did the Emperor make the first Legion? [SPEAKER_00]: And that would say it's made the third legion, or what I think, it just made 20 at the same time, but had different recipes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I think is. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is also, I had an original, just like the wolves and the bloody jails. [SPEAKER_01]: He had their own anomalies of what was going on in the bloodline. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's really odd because the blindels actually aren't listening to it's this it's the Wolves and the Salamanders and the Alpha Legion who are the ones who have the the blood angels Anomaly appears to be an accident whereas the Wolves and the Salamanders was intentional Authentic of the Ultra Alpha. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all of them have their things [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they've all messed up by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: The wolves, it was in their appearance, the salamanders, it's more, it's both physical, but also it seems more mental with them. [SPEAKER_00]: But the 20th Legion, we have no idea what their unique feature is. [SPEAKER_00]: Except we kind of can infer it later, because there's no clear explanation to them having a unique gene seed, except that their special trait becomes pretty apparent, which is these guys, yeah, these guys [SPEAKER_01]: Very, very, then he's. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, the truth is of the 20th legion that, well, truth is. [SPEAKER_00]: Whenever I say, by the way, on this whole cast, every time I say the truth is, air quotes, guys, we don't realize that you're going to use the truth is like I used literally. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the truth is so. [SPEAKER_00]: 20th Legion was created for covert actions, whereas all as we said, I, my opinion is the Emperor had 20 recipes, two of them didn't work out, and the 20 recipes were all meant to do something somewhat different except I've also pointed out some of them do the exact same thing, different complaint for a different day. [SPEAKER_00]: But the 20th were meant to be covert actions. [SPEAKER_00]: And these guys, there is some overlap here, not night look, because you also at night [SPEAKER_00]: And you also have a dark angel. [SPEAKER_01]: What are a lot different, though? [SPEAKER_00]: And the ultramarizer. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, everyone can be sneaky. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's not even sneaky because these guys were also sneaky to everyone else. [SPEAKER_01]: What they were doing at half the time was a mystery. [SPEAKER_01]: What one of my favorites is the fact that Conrad Curse thought these guys were too sneaky. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let that sink in. [SPEAKER_01]: The night Lord Primark was like, hey, guys, you really got to figure out what's going on, you know? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and I think that's, this is what's important here. [SPEAKER_00]: I have obviously complained quite a lot through the cast about just GW reusing stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: It comes up quite a bit. [SPEAKER_00]: This, halfway to an hour a little bit different. [SPEAKER_00]: So the night lords were meant to be a sneaky territory. [SPEAKER_00]: They would infiltrate an enemy and then basically use shadow tactics to make everyone there terrified for their lives so they would surrender. [SPEAKER_00]: The raven guard are sneaky, but they might have forward deployed. [SPEAKER_00]: They could get in the case of bread, censuring and devastators. [SPEAKER_00]: We could infiltrate nine inches off of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knows how sneaky they are. [SPEAKER_01]: God. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think they would be dainty. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, dainty, light stepping food. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, centurion devastatingers, but yeah, this is what they were saying. [SPEAKER_00]: The Raven guard, the Raven guard, they were designed to sneak forward and then they would attack. [SPEAKER_00]: The Alpha Legion were more like CIA, KGB, MI6, definitely. [SPEAKER_01]: Those guys were, hey, I'm just going to destroy their supply chains and stuff before anything happens. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, they had their own way of doing things, even inside the Legion, the Legion was known as other people were doing. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and the thing I want to point out is one thing that I do like about Alpha Legion is, obviously, I'm an Ultramarine fan. [SPEAKER_00]: not subtle and I'm not saying sorry for it because I shouldn't. [SPEAKER_00]: They're awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: But the ultramarines also will do stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: They won't do what the night loads do, but they'll do stuff like what Ravenguard does. [SPEAKER_00]: They can be as good in melee as the first Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: The ultramate can do all the things. [SPEAKER_00]: The ultramate can't do without Felicia does. [SPEAKER_00]: No one can. [SPEAKER_00]: The stuff without Felicia does no one replicates. [SPEAKER_00]: So I do want to give them credit that I think they [SPEAKER_00]: So it's a small, so maybe, and we'll get to that more next to the next. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what I caught more in the next episode we do. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a huge, maybe on that. [SPEAKER_00]: But let's kind of think what I call the first hints of a hidden legion. [SPEAKER_00]: So the 20th legion were very similar design and creation to the first legion. [SPEAKER_00]: In that, their purpose was to do things the emperor needed done, and like the first legion, they were going to do them in complete secretely, but different. [SPEAKER_00]: is go eliminate this thing in the galaxy that no one can know about. [SPEAKER_00]: Zinos, large human colonies, the psychers, stuff at the Ampergust, these guys I don't need anyone knowing that they even exist. [SPEAKER_00]: The 20th thing would do with yours up that you knew existed, rebellious leaders, potential adversaries, it's basically before the official SS norm came in, that's what they would do. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, also, if you're heavily influenced by Melkador, you're going to do some sketchy stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, that's what's, but originally, the 20th Legion were doing the assassins stuff because remember, the official assassin arm didn't form till later, Malkador formed it after the emperor's ascension in the middle of the Great Crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: So before that, [SPEAKER_00]: Stuff still needed to get assassinated. [SPEAKER_01]: And I went through this out. [SPEAKER_01]: I, this isn't one, like, a lot of the other legions shunned, for instance, the world leaders because of the way they went about stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: A bunch of the legions shunned the alpha legions, because they just didn't like how they did stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: They know they trusted, too. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they, that's, I'm saying, but they didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: They did, like, like I said. [SPEAKER_01]: You're the night Lord saying you're doing sketchy stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Roboot Gilliman was not a fan of the Alpha Lee. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll get to it a little bit later in this cast, but more than in the next cast, the Alpha Legion had one friend out of 18. [SPEAKER_00]: Like August 17, it was so. [SPEAKER_00]: What's fascinating though about the alpha legion in their early phase is that despite being a stardees, they were pulling off these assassinations and the stuff they're doing with a high level of grace and precision. [SPEAKER_00]: The stardees, remember, the early part of the stardees were just a better version of a thunder warrior. [SPEAKER_00]: They were brutal. [SPEAKER_00]: They were coming in our places, shock and all. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, kick in the door like everyone's gone. [SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, at an era where you had a denim venom in vocatus assassins, which later became Caledus, vindicate, etc., the Alpha Legion, or the 20th Legion assassins, were pulling off the same stuff with the same level of style and grace, where they didn't even know who was doing the killing, who was doing the kidnapping. [SPEAKER_00]: The only thing you knew was, I can't put you to do that show, because, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: and a star-taste showed up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you weren't sure if you was there or not, that's that is still. [SPEAKER_00]: Which does beg the question of how big were these guys originally? [SPEAKER_00]: And I do wonder if the... [SPEAKER_01]: I still think that they're small. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I agree with you. [SPEAKER_01]: On Tara, no one noted it. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to get talking about the size of it. [SPEAKER_00]: But that's my thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Part of me is thinking that it's possible a 20th legion may have actually been, they talk with them having a unique gene seed. [SPEAKER_00]: It may have been, they were just smaller. [SPEAKER_00]: It may have been that they were closer in size to a regular human and therefore were able to do a lot of this stuff in the early phases and perhaps over time. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't really know because they're sort of chaos now. [SPEAKER_00]: And they are chaos, but whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: over time, the 20th legion though, becomes this stoic secretive force of the emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: Similar to actually the inquisition of the modern era, where they're moving around the galaxy of their of seemingly own accord, but with absolute authority. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a look, the stories early on are super cool. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's talk about this because of the fact that during the unification, during the Great Crusade, they have, oh, [SPEAKER_01]: nothing and a lot at the exact same time, which means that I don't know how many there are because we thought we were going to get into this because they do a lot of things. [SPEAKER_01]: But they're also just kind of not in a ton of the most famous engagement stuff they're doing. [SPEAKER_00]: They're in thing almost none of the engagements. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll call it. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: That's my whole face. [SPEAKER_00]: They're free crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: They're just gone. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk more again in the next episode. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what we're getting to the heresy. [SPEAKER_00]: But they're like, there's really almost no talking about their fleet or anything until the heresy when they show up against the white scars. [SPEAKER_00]: Up until that point, we get small bits of them here and there. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give a brand theory on this, because this isn't the beginning of this. [SPEAKER_01]: I really think that they were made to snuff inside threats. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not only, but I think that was one of their main things. [SPEAKER_00]: It's possible. [SPEAKER_00]: And so here's what is kind of known sort of maybe. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what this whole thing is, sorry guys. [SPEAKER_00]: So there are these stories of ships passing through war zone conflict zones with authorization codes that are so high, you can't even figure out where they came from. [SPEAKER_00]: That's, and that was, these were in theory 20th leadership. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't have to be because it didn't say, there was no markings on them. [SPEAKER_00]: They just came and went almost like an inquisitor or a great night ship would, where it's like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, [SPEAKER_01]: this because they would show up inside this engagement that was taking place in a system and you would see it. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, again, Alpha Legion friends would yell at us if we didn't say that. [SPEAKER_01]: and the Alpha Legion would show up not his Alpha Legion, just his hey man, there's a ship that's showed up and do their own thing and do sound after they did it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're like, yeah, let's talk about this get wild. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of this stuff that they were doing because what's cool about them, actually, we shouldn't call them Alpha Legion at this point, they're so at 20th Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: What's amazing about the 20th Legion? [SPEAKER_00]: The only evidence [SPEAKER_00]: The 2nd legion exists, happens many years after you get to somewhere that they've been because they're going out and doing all these covert operations and they're basically causing worlds to go into rebellion just before the great crusade gets there. [SPEAKER_00]: So you get out there. [SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like weird luck is occurring. [SPEAKER_00]: You arrive in a sector and it's their recent unfortunate death of a key leader has just occurred Meaning that the resistance is not strong or all of their orbital defenses just happen to be disabled or their emperor is Like as you pull in get shot by number two. [SPEAKER_00]: This just happens to occur [SPEAKER_00]: that's the evidence of the 20th legions. [SPEAKER_00]: This is what a lot of us that they're doing, but that was then kind of out in the dark space, but what the one that probably is referring to is what the Alpha Legion fans really love, which is they also, and the other legions didn't love this one, would appear on a battlefield. [SPEAKER_00]: dressed as a different legion for Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: So by the way, you probably gave them a ride there, also so you are, you know, but this is back in the era of the numbered legion. [SPEAKER_00]: So you know, we'll go with seventh legion. [SPEAKER_00]: you're fighting, you're doing an engagement. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't, these legions don't fit at this point. [SPEAKER_00]: They're huge, 50,000, 60,000. [SPEAKER_00]: So an extra dozen dudes don't really stand out. [SPEAKER_00]: And this dozen dudes come down in one of your thunderhawks. [SPEAKER_00]: And they just kind of go off to the left, the same way modern dark angels do. [SPEAKER_00]: When they're hunting the fallen, where they're like, they're here. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, we're totally in this engagement. [SPEAKER_00]: We're just starting to check over there real quick. [SPEAKER_00]: And they would go over there, [SPEAKER_00]: capture someone, either person, technology, whatever it is, and then leave. [SPEAKER_00]: And then after where someone would be like, hey, was there good doesn't dudes here? [SPEAKER_00]: Has anyone seen them? [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone that goes, yeah, where did they go? [SPEAKER_00]: And also, who the hell were they? [SPEAKER_00]: And that's your evidence that they were there. [SPEAKER_00]: And Alfredo did this all the time, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: And eventually, once the primarks came into play, the primarks didn't think that was cool. [SPEAKER_00]: They were really not big fans of this maneuver of you pretending to be one of my sons and then doing stuff wearing also my armor. [SPEAKER_00]: They're wearing, which begs the question, where'd you get it? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, am I missing guys? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Do I need to go do a count? [SPEAKER_00]: Because I've noticed you're wearing my armor. [SPEAKER_00]: Not like, oh, a good paint job. [SPEAKER_00]: No, that's mine. [SPEAKER_00]: It has all the right codes in it. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, when you got really close to me, I didn't pick up on the fact you weren't one of mine. [SPEAKER_00]: What the hell is going on with you guys? [SPEAKER_00]: So now, what we don't know is a lot of their purpose at this time, that 20th Legion is kind of really, it a lot of things that you look at them. [SPEAKER_01]: When you go into, if you're online right now, and you just click it in Shadow War for them, they, that's kind of what they were doing. [SPEAKER_01]: When you look through Alpha Legion stuff, Alpha Legion has a lot of tiny stories about stuff they were doing. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, how many Alpha Legion are there? [SPEAKER_01]: They were either a full Legion or they were a tiny little bit of a band of brothers. [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't really specify. [SPEAKER_00]: My theory on them is I think one thing they were doing a lot of in this era was grabbing STCs. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing I think they were doing. [SPEAKER_00]: I think they were grabbing STCs and K-O-S, STCs, K-O-S and Zina Rolex. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that was their thing. [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Emperor was having, it's effectively the way pure John theory, if the world could be destroyed, as in the, it wasn't valuable enough, first legion. [SPEAKER_00]: But if the world had a lot of material or strategic value, the emperor had to conquer it, he'd send a different legion in and he'd send 20th in there, hey, grab these ten things and make sure no one sees them. [SPEAKER_00]: And 20th is like, right, and that's what they brought back. [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll cover later why that kind of backfired because Alpharius is a unique character. [SPEAKER_00]: But [SPEAKER_00]: they'll save the least. [SPEAKER_00]: So the Legion continues on in this kind of hidden realm until around 890 of M30. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's the third ragdand genocide. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is the first time the 20th Legion appears as a Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: They just they walk in and present themselves to Gilman. [SPEAKER_00]: for we could do that also a cool. [SPEAKER_00]: We have to go back in time now to out. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on. [SPEAKER_01]: I know because you have to. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was just saying during the like literally the representative, let me give this before we go into the full thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Because this is one of my favorite because it gives the whole IML various things. [SPEAKER_00]: That's where it comes from. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everything's stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because one of the guys shows up to talk to the lion in the middle of the ragdun wars and just goes, hey, I'm a representative, I am L Ferris, yeah, and you're like, it was that actually Al Ferris or was it some guy in the answer is, [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_00]: No one knows. [SPEAKER_00]: No one's sure. [SPEAKER_00]: But let's get into one of the equally crazy bits about affiliation. [SPEAKER_00]: They have two primarx. [SPEAKER_00]: So technically there were 21 primarx to start with. [SPEAKER_00]: We have two redacted and it's this become, this also makes it so hard to figure out what's going on with them because you've got identical twin primarx. [SPEAKER_00]: who change names and positions constantly. [SPEAKER_00]: So every story you hear about one of them, it could be the other one in vice versa. [SPEAKER_00]: And the best part is that the most known origin story of the Alpha Legion is the book, Alpharius, head of the Hydra, which is the only book of all of them written in the first person. [SPEAKER_00]: And it opens as Brad Mitchell heard with Alpharius saying, it's all a lie. [SPEAKER_00]: or is it because it's that it's the old thing of I always lie. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that one out of all the legions I do love the fact that they have the Hydra on them because, you know, if you cut off the head of the Hydra to grow back, that is how they operate, and I think it's fantastic. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a big fan of this on the way that they do. [SPEAKER_00]: I do. [SPEAKER_00]: The only thing it's interesting is actually the Hydra thing doesn't make sense in the early days. [SPEAKER_00]: The Hydra thing makes more sense post-heresy, and we'll talk about them. [SPEAKER_01]: In these words, that's when they're cast. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Right now in this early phase, they're not a Hydra. [SPEAKER_01]: That's cool rules, though, because you used to be able to for fans of older, when they're cast, if you would kill the other warlord, somebody else, because I'm saying, well, I'm saying, when they're chaos, they are a hydro. [SPEAKER_00]: What I'm saying is before they were chaos. [SPEAKER_01]: I got you. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: You're in great place. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I digress, but let's get into it. [SPEAKER_00]: So two names, alpharius and oh my god, alpharius being the first, oh my god, meeting the last. [SPEAKER_00]: And they have not one, not two, but a whole bunch of founding stories, because why not? [SPEAKER_00]: And we have no idea what you're true and it's fun as hell. [SPEAKER_01]: And also, [SPEAKER_01]: During those founding stories, any of the stories can have alpharious and I'll make it swapped at any time. [SPEAKER_00]: We have no idea. [SPEAKER_00]: So, let's get into what we do know sort of maybe. [SPEAKER_00]: They are the smallest of the primarx. [SPEAKER_00]: They are larger than a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're larger than average of starlies, but not by much. [SPEAKER_00]: And that may not even be the case. [SPEAKER_00]: They might only primerize and it's possible that they might not even be that. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, or some news a big dude, but yeah, but I've been on the big group at least though the Horace he wasn't is when I'm getting like, yeah, yeah, and this makes more sense to me if you go with the first of them, yes, which is Elfarius was on terror the whole time because if he's [SPEAKER_01]: Primark sized. [SPEAKER_01]: It made no sense. [SPEAKER_01]: You do the bishemi. [SPEAKER_01]: Hello Philo Marie. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I am one of you. [SPEAKER_00]: This one's more funny because the chaos guys abducted all the primarks scatter them around the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: And Alpharius didn't go very far. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpharius was actually, according to the story, out the front door into the left. [SPEAKER_00]: Like if you, they can't. [SPEAKER_00]: Like he would have still been on the ring doorbell cam. [UNKNOWN]: But [SPEAKER_00]: He was the posit and what's called a Xenarium Plateau, which is the landmass just outside the original Imperial Palace. [SPEAKER_00]: It is now part of the Imperial Palace. [SPEAKER_00]: And according to Alpharius, the Emperor himself opened the door, looked out and chased off the porch pirates who were trying to steal the baby primarque. [SPEAKER_00]: The story is different now, but my interpretation is better. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were scavengers, the emperors killed them all, but I like Portspire and the emperors yelling at them through the doorbell camp. [SPEAKER_00]: But from there, the story gets even louder, because according to Alpharius, the emperors and Malkador raised him, teaching him all the ways of war, but all the truths of the galaxy, [SPEAKER_00]: This is debatable, how much they told him and he claims that they showed him all of this in an effort to enlist him to do the deeds necessary for the survival of the coming Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, even more fun, he was raised with Valdor. [SPEAKER_01]: cool them or like they were buddy has to tell the I love everything about this because this is one of my favorite stories because it just sounds like he's name dropping yeah oh yeah I also know that they're back in the day what yeah yeah Tom Cruise drove me to school Morgan Friedman was my tutor you're like [SPEAKER_00]: Man what the hell but it does but the problem is like it sounds like made up, but they does come up in the king in yellow Who yes, I know we all knew a lot of coverage of king in yellow. [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get there and funny story is alf according to alpharius He made up the first blood games with valdor because [SPEAKER_00]: on my pants, you got bored, they thought this up. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll fair it's decided. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, what if I just breach the Imperial Palace and fight my way through all the custodes until he was confronted by Valdohr himself? [SPEAKER_00]: A tradition that is continued to this day, which I find both awesome and hilarious because we can think about it. [SPEAKER_00]: What you do is, just for those who don't know the blood games, a custod goes rogue intentionally. [SPEAKER_00]: And their job is to do basically to try and kill the emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: Breach the imperial palace and kill the emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: And they'll enlist people with them or they'll do it solo. [SPEAKER_00]: And they try to get there and it's always really elaborate plans. [SPEAKER_00]: Until eventually, one of the, they're caught. [SPEAKER_00]: but they've messed up it of this is when they get caught, the custodians will surround them. [SPEAKER_00]: And they all kind of laugh and high-five, hey man, that was a pretty good plan. [SPEAKER_00]: It was, and then they'll turn to all the people who are helping the quote-unquote Renegade Custode and murder them. [SPEAKER_00]: Best case scenario they become servitors. [SPEAKER_00]: That's it, it's so, it's just like, oh, you guys are horrible. [SPEAKER_00]: So that was invention about Tharius according to him. [SPEAKER_00]: But under this set of events, Alpharius was at the Emperor's side during the early part of the Great Crusade, and which makes sense, because due to a smaller statue, he was just disguised as a nameless of Stardis, as opposed to, by the way, Vulcan did the same thing, who also was a nameless of Stardis, but stood out quite a bit. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, see the indictments. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can't. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think was where like emerald encrusted armor or something silly like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Where it was like, so that's it. [SPEAKER_00]: That dude's important where his alphar is just, oh, yeah, you guys want some tea. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: But according to him, he was there when the emperor met the lion and lorgar and alpharious claims he had a very strong belief in the lion, which we'll get to a lot later, but he really he actually really respected and thought highly of the lion. [SPEAKER_00]: Lion didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't reciprocal. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: So much no. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: When he was eventually set off to lead the 20th Legion, Alfares referred to it as the Ghost Legion, because its actual existence was only a rumor. [SPEAKER_00]: Even the newly discovered primarx didn't know of the 20th Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: They weren't told about it. [SPEAKER_00]: That's one of the stories. [SPEAKER_00]: Another one is Alpharius was left in a world named Barsovore. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is a thriving tech world setting Alpharius up in the initial to be like, Gilliman, hey, you're going to be a plus. [SPEAKER_00]: Like this is going to be kick ass. [SPEAKER_00]: Until the evil-second-worn people, the slaw, slaw, slew, attack. [SPEAKER_00]: This look at the slaw. [SPEAKER_00]: The slaw, if you haven't heard about the slaw before, we covered them in a Zeno episode, but they're a super psychic being that's made up of a million worms, all just kind of thriving under a robe. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what they are. [SPEAKER_00]: They're cool. [SPEAKER_01]: It's gross, but they're, they're, they're, they're, yeah, they're, they also put, they puppeteer people. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're incredible psychic powers. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, they, they, they enslave everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: And so the slog get there. [SPEAKER_00]: So, and enslaved, and, enslaved in the population, but they run into a primarque, who's able to actually resist them to a point. [SPEAKER_00]: So, they, [SPEAKER_00]: kidnap him and they bring him back to their mothership and their plan is to basically break his mind and turn him into their own puppet for to do evil throughout the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: But according to Alfarius, in his book, the emperor sensed his distressed offspring and personally led an attack on the slaw where he ran his ship into the slaw ship. [SPEAKER_00]: ran through the ship and rescued Alpharius killing all the slaw and brought it back to Terra and then went back to the original story we just told you about where like he raised him with Valdor and all that shit. [SPEAKER_00]: Then there's a different story where there's the Horus story which also could be oh my god this one's even weirder. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think this is just oh my god because I think that the twins got scattered. [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: because they also don't make it in, even in that book, they don't make reference very much to Omaha until much later. [SPEAKER_01]: So I actually think that his twin was scattered and he was not. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's again, full-brad theory. [SPEAKER_00]: So actually, and this story, I'm gonna tell you this story, and we're gonna talk about it again in about five minutes. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_00]: So this story, [SPEAKER_00]: Alpharius is discovered very late in the crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: Horace's fleet is moving through a section of space and they come under attack. [SPEAKER_00]: And the attackers ambush a small portion of the fleet and then flee. [SPEAKER_00]: Horace then orders his fleet to pursue and destroy the people who dare to attack his fleet. [SPEAKER_00]: But each time they pursue them, doing their jumps, they get ambushed again and again and again. [SPEAKER_00]: Until suddenly the vengeful spirit itself is under attack and is like rag-tag group of pirates [SPEAKER_00]: And by Ragtag, I mean, a bunch of dudes and a primarck. [SPEAKER_00]: So not one of them wasn't that Ragtag. [SPEAKER_00]: And after killing a bunch of just staring bodyguards, Horus goes and faces the attacker himself. [SPEAKER_00]: And although, should note, according to Alpharius, he didn't kill the just staring. [SPEAKER_00]: He just incapacitated them. [SPEAKER_00]: which I, I mean, death will, and can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, I was gonna say, yeah, you know, you know, but he does say I incapacitated them, but as soon as Horace looks at Alpharius, he stops fighting and realizes that this is a brother and they become best friends and instantaneously we have so much room for activities and in this story, Horace kept Alpharius from the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: and which horror spent months just bonding with him, talking about stuff, teaching him about the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: But the interesting is that the same time while horror is teaching him, Alpharius is not giving horror to any information. [SPEAKER_00]: As horror is trying to figure out where Alpharius was. [SPEAKER_00]: And so as they're traveling around this portion of the galaxy, that again, he was not leading like one ship by the way, he had a giant pirate fleet. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he had systems. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: He didn't because the problem is if your planet they went to, he would say, is this, are these your people? [SPEAKER_00]: And he and Alfred say, no, yes, and Horace would say to those people, is this your leader? [SPEAKER_00]: And they'd say we have no idea who that guy is. [SPEAKER_00]: And I said, but it was also a yes and no, yeah, it was really cool. [SPEAKER_00]: The whole thing is where the hell did you come from, dude? [SPEAKER_00]: And we may have an answer in that in a bit, but now it's another story. [SPEAKER_00]: In this one, Alpharius awakens on a ruined world. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a former human colony that was destroyed in the Dark Age of Technology. [SPEAKER_00]: And he was alone in the planet. [SPEAKER_00]: So you just start to exploring it, learning from it, who I am, what my purpose is. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm gonna be honest, when I read this, if you haven't seen Hitchekers die to the galaxy, in the movie, there's a scene where a sperm whale, if he's blanks into existence and tries to discover who he is, that's what I thought of while reading this, which I don't know why, but also Hitchekers kind of the galaxy's awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: So whatever, I'm allowed to reference that. [SPEAKER_00]: But in this story I grew up pirate scavengers arrive in the world to loot it and are murdered by alpharius who then steals their ship So pirate code Alpharius then takes the ship and goes to terror because he wants to go find the guy who made him and he goes to the emperor Are any of those stories true? [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, what we do know is that in the third ragged-end genocide, someone claiming IML fairies walks up to a line and presents himself with a fleet with him. [SPEAKER_00]: He does deny being a primer. [SPEAKER_00]: Lying the line does ask, or you a primer. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm basically just, I'm a representative. [SPEAKER_00]: Does he have a chapter master? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a representative, but I'm here to assist you. [SPEAKER_00]: And the truth is he was there for two reasons. [SPEAKER_00]: assist the lion if he didn't ragged in, but also to observe the lion. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpharius knew at some point, the emperor would see his power to someone and the Alpharius felt the lion was the best one. [SPEAKER_00]: But there's another reason he was there. [SPEAKER_00]: And the other reason is there's he sensed something else in this region, oh my god. [SPEAKER_00]: And as again, the story may or not be true, but alpharious joins, and it's like you can join the lion in the fight against the ragdand. [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the main worlds there is a rockled bars of war. [SPEAKER_00]: On bars of war, there is still, there's basically a very small holdout that the ragdand just cannot get through. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's because Omagon is there. [SPEAKER_00]: is this where he's been the whole time to end up here who knows. [SPEAKER_00]: But he's leading a small little like group of resistance against the ragdand and he's holding out against them. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpharius arrives with his retinue, slaughter everyone, including the slah who were there, and reunites with his twin. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we've got Wonder Twin Powers Activate, which is the reference Brad will get, and that's about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Why? [SPEAKER_00]: Why? [SPEAKER_00]: Always the worst part. [SPEAKER_00]: Why did anyone make that? [SPEAKER_00]: But the twins are now together and they unite and they make a decision. [SPEAKER_00]: We can't let anyone know there's two of us. [SPEAKER_00]: They just have to keep their existence hidden from everybody. [SPEAKER_01]: Hold on. [SPEAKER_01]: I got to get my cheat together. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no secret to this. [SPEAKER_01]: The upper knows what's going on. [SPEAKER_01]: They decide they're not telling the upper. [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, just no. [SPEAKER_01]: The upper knows. [SPEAKER_01]: Does he tell anybody? [SPEAKER_01]: No, because the upper is the worst communicator of all time. [SPEAKER_01]: That's probably what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: What are those? [SPEAKER_01]: Where they go? [SPEAKER_01]: We're very sneaky. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, dude, he made you. [SPEAKER_00]: did it's true. [SPEAKER_00]: There is a potential that since the one dude got dropped off in front of the house and the other one got teleported across the galaxy that maybe they did, he never made one of them. [SPEAKER_01]: None of them. [SPEAKER_01]: He produced the absent-minded professor and we forgot about the other one I made. [SPEAKER_00]: There's so many of all the in the history of dads in the entire galaxy who's most likely to forget he had 21, not 20, not 20 kids. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for like he didn't forget. [SPEAKER_01]: He just didn't care is like, Oh, yeah, this one's this one's right here the other one's super far away man. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that seems inconvenient. [SPEAKER_00]: So what they decide is alpharius takes up primary leadership and oh my god, I'm being second [SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to figure out how this sense actually is. [SPEAKER_00]: Is this like Alpharius is like the important one and Omega is actually second? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but the idea is Alpharius, the main one, but Omega would fill in for him on occasion. [SPEAKER_01]: Like a kind of a lot, according to the stories, though. [SPEAKER_00]: But this is where it gets even crazier. [SPEAKER_00]: This, remember the story we just told you about, the attack on Horace. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, then the next bit of the story is actually, they decide to introduce themselves the primarks this way, because remember, [SPEAKER_00]: The only thing the lion met was a dude claiming to be part of a legion. [SPEAKER_00]: So now that the theory of the story becomes, Alpharius and Omega'n work together to build this giant fleet to then go attack Horace to then introduce Horace to them, but it's Omega'n. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpharius is somewhere else. [SPEAKER_00]: Who knows, but the cool part is that they join. [SPEAKER_00]: And so the other 17 legions, now they take part in the Great Crusade sort of kind of because very sort of Donna. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because first off, I do need to take one little break here and shit on them. [SPEAKER_00]: They decide to take on because there is super secret legion, the hydra. [SPEAKER_00]: which is the exact same thing in Marvel. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's identical, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: We should call this out real quick that it's the logos a little bit different, but they both obfuscate. [SPEAKER_00]: They both, you know, yeah, yeah, they both infiltrate constantly. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no like history around them. [SPEAKER_00]: It's red skull. [SPEAKER_00]: That's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: But the thing about the alpha legion is what's important though is that they have no recruiting world, they have no official history, they have no recruiting strategy, we have no idea where any other legionnaires come from, we have no idea where they're based nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: And forget now, I'm talking about at any point in the great crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: We have no knowledge of it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we don't even know at least like the, you understand how the imperial [SPEAKER_00]: What we do know about them is that their job is to so confusion. [SPEAKER_00]: They go out and basically, you don't know they were there until after the fact, which is super cool. [SPEAKER_00]: So the question is, what is their true goal? [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get to the Alpha Legion in the Great Crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: So they take partly Great Crusade, but their style is [SPEAKER_00]: in conflict with the other legions. [SPEAKER_00]: They were wild. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not even just kind of like, I think a lot of the other primars in the leader, they basically just the legions themselves didn't like what they were doing because it wasn't how they were supposed to fight, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it also... [SPEAKER_01]: To them, they were also just not taking casualties and putting themselves in danger like the rest of the legions were. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a little bit of an answer on that. [SPEAKER_00]: The alpha legions, so when it look at it's the alpha legion, they, one of these incredibly intricate and complicated battle plans, almost never leading off frontal assault in enemy force. [SPEAKER_00]: They said they would use like really complicated subterfuge to create this like crescendo effect. [SPEAKER_00]: Like the Harley Quinn's and actually Zinge do. [SPEAKER_00]: They remind me of James Bond bad guys a lot though because all of their plans are just wildly over-applicating But they work though the difference the James Bond bad That's the difference because now I will say as with all GW writing Alpha Legion were superior to all as legions and their discipline intelligence and battle prowess [SPEAKER_00]: unless you're reading a book about different legion in which case they were the one service superior. [SPEAKER_00]: It really does remind me of us in the children talk about who's the best at something. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, [SPEAKER_00]: really good at that. [SPEAKER_00]: Just like the first Legion, but they're a black box of information. [SPEAKER_00]: You cannot discern their purpose or their goals. [SPEAKER_00]: But unlike the first Legion, this wasn't because they just didn't speak. [SPEAKER_00]: The Dark Angels are a negative percentage fun to be around because they still don't talk. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a hello. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, by. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: The Alpha Legion love talking, but they're always deceiving you. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the paradox I always tell a lie. [SPEAKER_00]: That is how the Alpha Legion just operate. [SPEAKER_00]: And they enjoy toying with their enemies. [SPEAKER_00]: Now the nightlords are even raven guard because those guys are their self is inflicted fear of panic. [SPEAKER_00]: The Alpha Legion are way more nefarious. [SPEAKER_00]: Their presence will go completely undetected until after the fact. [SPEAKER_00]: They'll work alongside their enemies day in and day out, setting up a trap. [SPEAKER_00]: And when that traps springs, anarchy and collapse, not that dissimilar from a gene store called. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, a good example of this is Tester Prime. [SPEAKER_00]: So Tester Prime is a human world that was just in compliance. [SPEAKER_00]: They'd essentialize government and a military [SPEAKER_00]: So it was the prudent maneuver would have been lightning strike them, descendant full force, cut the head off the snake, basically destabilize the world, and then force them to compliance after the fact. [SPEAKER_00]: But the alpha lesion thought that was boring. [SPEAKER_00]: So instead, they appeared in orbit and halted, which allowed the all the defenders to get these massively, I don't think they don't get, they made huge fortifications, perfectly prepared to repel the invasion that was coming from the alpha lesion. [SPEAKER_00]: And then, the entire military on the planet began to have one catastrophe after another. [SPEAKER_00]: Fuel and ammunition, so I was exploding. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that a lot of these things are just in one day. [SPEAKER_01]: All the silos exploded just killing thousands. [SPEAKER_01]: A bunch of their patrols got fake orders where they went into the middle of nowhere and got lost and killed. [SPEAKER_01]: They tried to fire their cannons, by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: on fake targets in the first place, but the cannons were improperly calibrated and basically killed those patrols. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so all this ends with about 90 percent of the entire military force of the world dying to just accidents and then they'm calling the Alpha Legion to surrender. [SPEAKER_00]: And the elf legion we're just like this is the best thing ever. [SPEAKER_00]: We are awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: And I want to be honest, it's pretty awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman felt differently. [SPEAKER_00]: He was kind of furious about this. [SPEAKER_00]: Dorne, Dorne's a separate story with them, but they viewed as the busy terrorism. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, this is not how it started. [SPEAKER_00]: We are super humans. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't fight like this. [SPEAKER_00]: We grab a chain of certain cut people's heads off like adults. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't do this kind of weird crap. [SPEAKER_01]: Ah, they do have a point though. [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, I have Felicia fans on this. [SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest things is, yes, are they super awesome to their stuff work? [SPEAKER_01]: 100% but kind of like where they got the word barriers cut, since... [SPEAKER_01]: is all of the stuff takes a long time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the real issue. [SPEAKER_01]: You might not like what the world leaders, the world leaders are doing, but they do it quickly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, especially from Gilliman, because Gilliman, I, the Ultrans were the best at bringing roles into Imperial compliance. [SPEAKER_00]: They were doing it rapidly. [SPEAKER_00]: Meanwhile, the Alpha Legion, I mean, what they do is cool, but yeah, it's like, hey, does that role in compliance yet? [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, we need two more months. [SPEAKER_00]: The plans are almost ready. [SPEAKER_01]: You could have, he's like, I've got seven more packages coming from acne. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'm almost done painting the fake tunnel. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, what are you doing? [SPEAKER_00]: But me, mom, Gilliman's like, yeah, and those three, like the extra month you need, I conquered 11 worlds. [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing? [SPEAKER_00]: So it became this began to create some of the strife. [SPEAKER_00]: between the legions, which doesn't surprise anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: The only primar who was supporting them through all this is Horace. [SPEAKER_00]: Horace sees this incredible potential. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, if you're going to have somebody in your back pocket supporting you, I mean Horace is [SPEAKER_00]: Well, because Horace, unlike the current rules, writers of games workshop, see value and diversity of space marine legends. [SPEAKER_00]: Just saying, imagine, magic, all the space really just had like diverse capabilities and rules, instead of just being a repeat over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_01]: But I actually think that Horace saw this as in the future chapter that he really lay a legion that he really liked too though. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, once we, you gotta think though, they've been winning for a while, especially where Horace was, because he wasn't involved in some of the contracted battles. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, these guys are like auto winning half the battles. [SPEAKER_01]: It's nice to have somebody that's going to be doing stuff in the future, like, hey man, while I'm getting the glory, you should go back and murder some, [SPEAKER_00]: Plan to hear you go for this. [SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite pieces of all this though is that so out there is no McGon art that they're faced with this problem. [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is we've got one primarx supporting us and 16 telling us that we suck So what do we do about this simple double middle fingers? [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna keep doing what we were doing, but we're gonna do it harder [SPEAKER_00]: And they just go heart date. [SPEAKER_00]: So what they start doing is picking harder and harder opposition going out there and this is by the way, a lot of primarcts do this. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not unique primarcts. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go prove myself with honor. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to take on the hardest battles, but these guys start putting on grander and more. [SPEAKER_00]: complicated to Brad's point about bond villains, where it's like entire systems are falling down to a single domino flick that just sets off this entire trigger. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just these incredible crescendos of world falling over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_00]: And every time they just do this [SPEAKER_00]: doing all the primarcs because it's still Rick Flare is a healer going, I hate you more now. [SPEAKER_00]: Every time you do this, we hate you even more. [SPEAKER_00]: So this isn't going great, but by the way, GW, good writing, because it is actually quite fine to read. [SPEAKER_00]: Now. [SPEAKER_00]: Another key piece that starts going on at this time, though, is the alpha-legion gene seed we're starting through all these actions, we're starting to see, it's got something we are going on with it, and is it shapeshifting or is it, we don't know exactly what it is, but it's never clear how they do this. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what? [SPEAKER_01]: Quick, quick aside for Brad there. [SPEAKER_01]: I do think it's shapeshifting because obfuscation is the part of the gene that the raving guard we're doing and I think it's I think that these guys can mimic others. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because also a bunch of stuff's gonna happen. [SPEAKER_01]: We won't get into it as much today's cast. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but unless you can shape shifts, some of the stuff does not make [SPEAKER_01]: make any sense. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Which they did. [SPEAKER_00]: And so we know how ferious and omega can do some goofy stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: And we also know that when you implant the gene seed, everyone takes on characteristics to a point of the primar. [SPEAKER_00]: A Horace axiom and looked just like Horace. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that all of us, thank you very much. [SPEAKER_00]: I think all day, if I'm not missing all the blade angels, they're all blonde haired, which is weird. [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, so out there is an Omigon, as we've said, with a smallest primarx, and they use that to their advantage, because it promoting actually some of their largest legionnaires to the rank of leadership. [SPEAKER_00]: So when they would stand around, it's some cool stories about this, Doran famously guessed right on one of these, but when they would stand around, [SPEAKER_00]: you couldn't tell which one was outfairious and which one wasn't because they would all be dressed the exact same. [SPEAKER_00]: They would outfairists always had a shaved head and they would all shave their heads. [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever outfairists looked like that day, everyone else did the exact same thing. [SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's a cool story, but there's a question about like, well, [SPEAKER_00]: did they actually put this much effort in or were they able to actually shift themselves a little bit? [SPEAKER_00]: Could they reconstruct some of their facial features? [SPEAKER_00]: Could they change their heights a little bit? [SPEAKER_00]: Because to Brad's point, we're done with infiltrating worlds, which are all human colonies. [SPEAKER_00]: So to start, we love this deep, who's shemmy meme, but it really is. [SPEAKER_00]: If there's a point where you're like, hey man, the eight foot tall guys, is anyone just going to ask a question about where he came from? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, or you can do the opposite every time I go to Sweden, they go, one of these guys is not from here. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, that's one of the day one, look at you and nope, no, no, no, no, we've talked about this. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, and they talk about this in the books a little bit, too, that they also will do surgery on people to make changes to their features, but I think there has to be a warplvel effect here. [SPEAKER_00]: Because the athletes are just, I do agree. [SPEAKER_01]: They also do some fantastic stuff once they're cast and they kind of just pause it off to social powers, but I think they were already doing that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because another good example of this is the world prints campaign. [SPEAKER_00]: This is one of the extra of this in the Imperial Fist one, but I find it funny, so I'm going to do it again. [SPEAKER_00]: So the world prints was, he was a prince ruling up a large human system and they were just refusing Imperial compliance. [SPEAKER_00]: So the Emperor sent the Fists and Alpha Legion to bring them into [SPEAKER_00]: Ed the fists do the fist do they start invading and they fight everywhere and the Alpha Legion also were in system [SPEAKER_00]: That's about it. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you have, Felicia? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And the fist of fighting and fighting and just no alpha legion anywhere. [SPEAKER_00]: And then one day, the entire world's resistance just stops. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's because in one night, every single member of the ruling class, children, women, everyone, died, Godfather won the style. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone but the world prints, just [SPEAKER_00]: every person he cared about died and they were all by the way killed by a friend of theirs. [SPEAKER_00]: It was like the Alpha Legion, like this is a night lord, they snuck in and murdered them and they're asleep. [SPEAKER_00]: No, all of them had their best friend shoot them in the head in one night. [SPEAKER_00]: And the world princess went, I surrender, but he surrendered, of course, to the imperial fists, which with this case was Rogol Dorne, because he didn't even know the Alpha Legion were there. [SPEAKER_01]: to, again, we covered this before. [SPEAKER_01]: Dorn was not happy. [SPEAKER_01]: Dorn was not this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Dorn thought this was a, we'll go with Dick move. [SPEAKER_00]: This was completely unacceptable for Dorn. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he thought it was beneath them wildly, but it wasn't, and it wasn't beneath them to be fair. [SPEAKER_00]: To be fair. [SPEAKER_00]: For Dorn's viewpoint is like, hey, I could just want this war. [SPEAKER_00]: You slaughtered innocence. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: It's one thing because that's where I will say the the one with Gilliman that one he they killed the military this one he actually killed random people which is like it's one's a little bit like listen a little bit darker. [SPEAKER_00]: But what we need to get to now is probably the most important part of the Alpha Legion story and the preheracy the Kabul. [SPEAKER_00]: So [SPEAKER_00]: at an unknown time during the Great Crusade, this critical event occurs. [SPEAKER_00]: Alpharius and Omegaon are contacted by a secret Xeno super organization known as the Kabbal, which GW kind of bailed on from being honest from a writing standpoint. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just too bad because it's a cool thing. [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't really cool. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just one of the cores though of the original effilizium because at their intrinsic value, these guys, this is a group that has the galaxy, the galaxy has a greater whole and they think that the imperium plays a big role in that so they don't want them, the imperium defaulted around. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're going to do a cast in the cabal, but there's really quick. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a collection of random Z-nose, who are highly powerful, highly psychic from all around the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't even know which races they are. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of them are likely to be small independence. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know how old the cabal is. [SPEAKER_00]: It could in theory be as old as the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: And their purpose in the galaxy is very opaque. [SPEAKER_00]: What we know is that they don't want their very pro-galaxy, they don't want to fall to ruin, but their peacemaker style. [SPEAKER_00]: So they don't care how many innocent people have the murder to achieve their goal, but that is their goal is to keep the galaxy from falling to ruin. [SPEAKER_00]: And so they meet with our theorists in Omigon, both of them because they knew that there were two primaries. [SPEAKER_00]: And, due to their connection to the war, they explained to Ferris and I'm going on that they are pre-cocks, and they've said, and I like this story a lot, by the way, that there is a choice ahead of them. [SPEAKER_00]: There is an upcoming civil war within the Imperium, and between the Emperor and Horace. [SPEAKER_00]: and one of two things will happen. [SPEAKER_00]: Should the emperor win, the humanity will grow, but over time it's like a fruit on a tree is not being picked, it will begin to decay. [SPEAKER_00]: And over time the imperium will become the most powerful driving force behind chaos in the galaxy, and it will feed chaos so much that another elder style cataclysm will occur, and chaos will breach into the galaxy and consume it. [SPEAKER_01]: cough cough the risk or whenever we're wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll continue. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the other option is Horace will win. [SPEAKER_00]: And once Horace wins, the loss of the emperor, the imperium will fall. [SPEAKER_00]: Human humanity will die. [SPEAKER_00]: But the burning will feed chaos quickly, but then it will burn out. [SPEAKER_00]: And there'll be nothing left to feed chaos. [SPEAKER_00]: The chaos gods will turn on each other and they will starve and die. [SPEAKER_00]: and they're by eliminating chaos in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: And they give the twins a choice, side with Horace and save the galaxy or side with the emperor and destroy it. [SPEAKER_00]: But both decisions will end in the deaths of the imperial. [SPEAKER_00]: It's to matter of when. [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll get out of you about this for another couple hours next week because I think much differently than John. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, on this because I think that they said, yes, yes, to both of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: There is so much fan theory into this one because this is again, we're covering one of the better writings GW has done and I'm super excited about this. [SPEAKER_00]: But you [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we are going to break there because next week, we have to get even more wild. [SPEAKER_00]: Are each brother chasing different sides? [SPEAKER_00]: Are they together? [SPEAKER_00]: Do they make up their own third option? [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: But now, so who got killed? [SPEAKER_00]: Ruckus. [SPEAKER_00]: Two of them have gotten murdered. [SPEAKER_00]: They've both been murdered and we still have them around. [SPEAKER_00]: Be exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: So, either way, next week we're getting into the lead up the Horace Harris. [SPEAKER_00]: See them in the Horace Harrisie and a little bit that beyond that. [SPEAKER_00]: But until then, John Barcidi, Brad Chester. [SPEAKER_00]: Disgusting. [SPEAKER_00]: See you next week. [UNKNOWN]: Thank you very much.
