I'm concerned I may never <v Speaker 4>get back to one hundred, but that was before I <v Speaker 4>went to the hospital. Is it? <v Speaker 3>Is it oscillating? It all or is it a solid <v Speaker 3>sixty percent? So I'm not sure which one would worry <v Speaker 3>me more. <v Speaker 4>It's like a solid sixty's right. <v Speaker 3>Then that feels like, oh, is this just the new <v Speaker 3>one hundred? <v Speaker 4>Yeah? Yeah, yeah, And then I fear that I'll start expanding. <v Speaker 4>H What is it when you get a promotion but <v Speaker 4>it's not a real promotion. It's a side emotion, a <v Speaker 4>side motion. <v Speaker 3>Yes, we're good. <v Speaker 4>At words, folks, That's why I'm here on Thursdays. <v Speaker 3>We're poets, is what they say. Lateral there we go, lateral, lateral. <v Speaker 4>Yes, absolutely, this may feel like a lateral expansion of <v Speaker 4>my energy where instead of going up, I'm just gonna <v Speaker 4>keep staying at sixty. <v Speaker 3>But to the side, I'm a I'm gonna be a <v Speaker 3>Disney next week. I'm gonna latterly expand at every meal. <v Speaker 3>I cannot wait. It's gonna be a good time. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>I'm doing all right. I think it's like oh of <v Speaker 3>those days where I actually get sleep that's helping, and <v Speaker 3>then going outside is helping. I'm just not still not <v Speaker 3>doing either of those things enough. I need to, like, yeah, <v Speaker 3>I need to like get a streak going, and I <v Speaker 3>should do that now, because it's like when else, you know, <v Speaker 3>I'm gonna wait and get just get more into the <v Speaker 3>dumps here now. No, I'm just gonna sleep more and <v Speaker 3>go outside, and that that's the big plan. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, what about sleeping outside? <v Speaker 3>Listen, I'm not against it. In fact, I'm for it. <v Speaker 3>Fresh air. That sounds real good, real nice. It was <v Speaker 3>when I was playing Call Dunt even Nikki the other <v Speaker 3>night they said that they forget like when things like <v Speaker 3>when you do something, it's like, oh this made me <v Speaker 3>feel better or hey, I did this and it made <v Speaker 3>me feel worse. Either way, you forget. So it's like <v Speaker 3>I forget how good like working out makes me feel, <v Speaker 3>and it's like, oh, if I just remember that, I <v Speaker 3>would probably do it more, but I don't. All right, <v Speaker 3>let's explain what we do here most weekdays. I, Jeff Greb, <v Speaker 3>will help peace your gaming life back together. That includes <v Speaker 3>breaking news and maybe even some of our own original reporting. <v Speaker 3>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a <v Speaker 3>bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If <v Speaker 3>you are watching live on twitch Welcome, you can always <v Speaker 3>listen to the show later on podcast feeds by searching <v Speaker 3>for game Mes Mornings or find the RSS on giant <v Speaker 3>bomb dot com. You can also catch the show later <v Speaker 3>with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right, <v Speaker 3>we have a lot to get into, so let's start <v Speaker 3>the morning mess with dragon Quest three HD two D remake. <v Speaker 3>Reviews are out. Quite a few reviews came out. Now <v Speaker 3>it has an eighty five on Open Critic. Kind of <v Speaker 3>you know, moved up and down a little bit. It <v Speaker 3>seems like it's settling in at around eighty five. Got <v Speaker 3>three stars from Danielle Lucas at Eurogamer, who wrote, some <v Speaker 3>excellent enhancements make this the ultimate version of dragon Quest three, <v Speaker 3>but it could still do more to make it wholly <v Speaker 3>welcoming to newcomers. Then Carrie Brunskill from a PC Gamer <v Speaker 3>gave it a ninety one out of one hundred and <v Speaker 3>said the exact opposite, dragon Quest three HD two D <v Speaker 3>is welcoming for newcomers, a fans dream, and a truly <v Speaker 3>timeless classic. And then it got four point five stars <v Speaker 3>from Chris Shiv at Hardcore Gamer, who wrote dragon Quest <v Speaker 3>three HD two D remake is how a classic game <v Speaker 3>should be remade. The new graphic style brings dragon Quest <v Speaker 3>three into the modern era. While maintaining the original iconic designs. <v Speaker 3>The quality of life improvements also make the thirty six <v Speaker 3>year old game feel modern without sacrificing the core elements <v Speaker 3>of the original experience. Jane, I read a little bit <v Speaker 3>of these reviews here and there and consids it seems <v Speaker 3>to be it's still Dragon Quest three. It's and that means, <v Speaker 3>you know, lots of random encounters and a need to <v Speaker 3>grind so that you're appropriately leveled for some later encounters <v Speaker 3>in the game. That's what that game always was. They <v Speaker 3>did not change that, and it doesn't sound like they <v Speaker 3>have an option or a slider to reduce the need <v Speaker 3>for grinding or to reduce the number of random encounters. <v Speaker 3>So if that stuff bothers you, it's going to bother <v Speaker 3>you here. And yet this is still the best way <v Speaker 3>to present this game, and they did make a lot <v Speaker 3>of improvements and it looks real, real nice. <v Speaker 4>So I have it. <v Speaker 3>I'm gonna start playing it. I think, just maybe look <v Speaker 3>at it mostly for me personally. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I wanted to get this going so we could <v Speaker 4>talk about it when the review embargo dropped, or at <v Speaker 4>least on the BombCast. But I have a very long <v Speaker 4>flight coming up, and this seems like the perfect game <v Speaker 4>to play on that the game looks absolutely gorgeous. I'm <v Speaker 4>glad that dragon Quest is getting some love because dragon <v Speaker 4>Quest has felt like the forgotten child at Square Enix <v Speaker 4>for a while now. But yeah, I agree with a <v Speaker 4>little bit of the grinding mentality. I could do without it, <v Speaker 4>or at least some type of option to get rid <v Speaker 4>of it, to just streamline the experience for players, just <v Speaker 4>because I don't want to say grinding is outdated, but <v Speaker 4>it just is very tiresome when there's so many other <v Speaker 4>games out that being said, there's portions of metaphor Infinite Wealth, <v Speaker 4>even Rebirth this year that did have a little bit <v Speaker 4>of that grinding culture still associated with it. But hey, <v Speaker 4>if you have always been curious about dragon Quest, I <v Speaker 4>think this is like the perfect like entryway. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. I mean, I'm not of the opinion that grinding <v Speaker 3>is inherently a bad thing. That's you know, that that's <v Speaker 3>playing the game in a lot of ways. It is <v Speaker 3>just so in order to play this game, I got <v Speaker 3>to play more of the game, is what you're saying <v Speaker 3>when you tell people you got to grind. You know, <v Speaker 3>obviously too much of anything could be bad. I think <v Speaker 3>there's a point where grinding becomes boring. That is also true. <v Speaker 3>So I guess personally, I would not have minded if <v Speaker 3>they would have been would have taken maybe an editor's <v Speaker 3>eye with modern gamers in mind and their sensibilities in mind, <v Speaker 3>and said, hey, let's just create a modern difficulty option <v Speaker 3>that tries to respect people's time maybe a little bit more, <v Speaker 3>but still keeps the grinding in there to some degree <v Speaker 3>and maybe provides a sort of balance. But they doesn't <v Speaker 3>sound like they did that, and at the same time <v Speaker 3>doesn't sound like that's going to ruin the experience for <v Speaker 3>most people. It just meant if it's if you're you' <v Speaker 3>have a predilection against that sort of thing, then maybe. <v Speaker 4>So Yeah, if this is your first foray into like <v Speaker 4>a GRPG, and your first foray into like having to <v Speaker 4>grind for a levels to beat encounters, this may be <v Speaker 4>a little bit off putting, right, But I mean, for <v Speaker 4>I hate to say it, but for fans of the <v Speaker 4>genre grub, I think this will be a very this <v Speaker 4>This feels like a perfect game for the holiday break <v Speaker 4>coming up. Yeah, yeah, for sure, just just tuck in. <v Speaker 3>Yeah for me, you know, maybe it's not the grinding <v Speaker 3>so much. I never loved even I like turn based battles. <v Speaker 3>I like RPGs vaguely here or there. IM not a <v Speaker 3>huge DRPG, but I've liked some here and there. It <v Speaker 3>was always the random encounter, so that was like, yeah, <v Speaker 3>I love this. It was I think that was one <v Speaker 3>of the things early on where it's like, oh, super <v Speaker 3>MARIORPG is very much for me because I could see <v Speaker 3>the enemies on screen, I approached them, I go after him. <v Speaker 3>It's just a mental thing. I think at a certain point, <v Speaker 3>it's just like a little block there. And you know, <v Speaker 3>I think the genre as a whole is like we're <v Speaker 3>keeping turn based battles, but we are shifting away from <v Speaker 3>from random encounters for you know, for the most part, <v Speaker 3>not entirely obviously. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>Actually, I think that is a thing that upsets me <v Speaker 4>the most. Scrub having to do random encounters, just because God, <v Speaker 4>even in the game like let's go Pikachu and Evy, <v Speaker 4>being able to see the Pokemon yeah that you specifically <v Speaker 4>wanted to catch, like improve the experience huge. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I kind of don't want to go back in Pokemon, <v Speaker 3>which is like, you know, when I was franchise, like <v Speaker 3>no random Acounters. That's the whole thing. You're going out <v Speaker 3>and you don't know what you're gonna get. It's kind <v Speaker 3>of want to know what I'm gonna get. I think <v Speaker 3>it makes it better and it does. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. Yeah, But that being said, it's great to see <v Speaker 4>reviews for a remake of an old ass game. Grub <v Speaker 4>getting a lot of love at six years old? <v Speaker 3>Is that for real? Yess? That's wild? Yeah, I mean, <v Speaker 3>oh my god, yes, that makes sense. <v Speaker 4>Right. <v Speaker 3>The the you know, Famicom would have been out what <v Speaker 3>in eighty family computer, the family computer, yes, which Dan <v Speaker 3>also didn't know it was. It was family computer for Famicom. <v Speaker 3>There you go. So you got a buddy there. And <v Speaker 3>you know, I was born in eighty three and I'm <v Speaker 3>forty one, gonna be forty two. So yeah, thirty six <v Speaker 3>as that would have been the later a later Nees game, <v Speaker 3>later Famicom game. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I I'm curious if this inspires Square Enix to go <v Speaker 4>ahead and try and I mean they've been on this <v Speaker 4>trend of doing HD two D remakes. HD two D <v Speaker 4>has been like the hotness for some subset of JRPGs. <v Speaker 4>I'm curious as to what they may be planning to <v Speaker 4>also do next. You know, hey, Prono triggers right there, y'all. <v Speaker 3>I mean, I think that's that would I think that <v Speaker 3>would work very well. I mean, cron trigger already looks eight. <v Speaker 3>They are not timeless, looks timeless, you know, don't need <v Speaker 3>to do much to it. But I bet it would <v Speaker 3>look really good if they did HD two D. And <v Speaker 3>you know, I think there's people who are a little <v Speaker 3>bit over HD two D. I think that that is <v Speaker 3>more a some HD two game. HD two D games <v Speaker 3>were garish, were a bit too much. We're kind of <v Speaker 3>like turning the bloom up to fifty out of ten. <v Speaker 3>And it seems like they've really dialed it in here <v Speaker 3>where it's like they had again they took maybe took <v Speaker 3>an editor's eye and said what would make this game <v Speaker 3>look the best, not the most. And so I think <v Speaker 3>that they are taking an artistic event towards it now <v Speaker 3>and that is a good sign for the longevity of <v Speaker 3>this HD two D idea. That think they could do <v Speaker 3>this a lot more. <v Speaker 4>The Star Ocean remakes from earlier this year absolutely gorgeous, <v Speaker 4>and they were skewed a little bit differently than the <v Speaker 4>HD two D right style that we normally see it. <v Speaker 4>Oh jeez man, what a good year for j RPGs, <v Speaker 4>RPGs in general. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 4>I started a dragon age the Vailguard the other night <v Speaker 4>was a treating you. I think I like it. I <v Speaker 4>think I like it. <v Speaker 3>That seems to be the sort of the response I <v Speaker 3>hear most frequently is I think this is okay. I <v Speaker 3>think I like this, and like, yeah, you know, it's okay. <v Speaker 3>But with that uh like increase in the pitch at <v Speaker 3>the end of the sentence, so I think this is okay. <v Speaker 3>I'm surprised I like this so much. Some people, you know, <v Speaker 3>does the pitch goes down? I think it's okay. But <v Speaker 3>for the most part, people seem mostly positive on it <v Speaker 3>in a like, hey, I'm surprised by this sort of way. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>a lot a lot RPGs this year, and you know, <v Speaker 3>as a genre, so it's like, if you are going <v Speaker 3>to ask people to come and like dedicate a portion <v Speaker 3>of their personal like fandom budget of like, hey, I'm <v Speaker 3>going to be a fan of something, RPGs seems to <v Speaker 3>be the right genre to do that. And it's like <v Speaker 3>you can kind of get an attached to somebody for <v Speaker 3>a long time. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, definitely. You don't see people getting attached to <v Speaker 4>the Nicki Minaj model in Call of Duty. Just actually, <v Speaker 4>never mind, just us. <v Speaker 3>Just us. The other review that popped off yesterday is <v Speaker 3>Lego Horizon Adventuress a seventy two on Open Critic, which, <v Speaker 3>to be fair, it bounced up from where it started. <v Speaker 3>It was like in like the high sixties on Open <v Speaker 3>Critic when it when it first popped off, so kind <v Speaker 3>of it's climbing up a little bit, a little bit <v Speaker 3>lower than I was expecting based on the time I <v Speaker 3>had with that at a summer game fest at the <v Speaker 3>at the A killy S Summer Festival where I played it, <v Speaker 3>and like, this seems pretty fun. This seems like kind <v Speaker 3>of lighthearted and kind of joyous. Seventy two on Open Critic, <v Speaker 3>though five out of ten from Dalton Cooper at gam Rant, <v Speaker 3>who writes Lego Horizon Adventures has some things going for it, <v Speaker 3>but it's a boring game that fails to live up <v Speaker 3>to other Lego or Horizon titles. Two stars from Catherine <v Speaker 3>Castle at Eurogame, who writes too simple and childish for <v Speaker 3>adults and to one note to convert the kids, Lego <v Speaker 3>Horizon Adventures does little to recommend it to either existing <v Speaker 3>Horizon fans or series newcomers, and then Mark Delaney at <v Speaker 3>GameSpot gave it a seven out of ten, says via <v Speaker 3>Bricks and Minifigs, Horizon is charmingly remade for a younger audience, <v Speaker 3>though it's formula commissions may strain players of all ages. <v Speaker 3>Do we get a code for this? I don't know. <v Speaker 3>I'm na ask for one, just to see if. I <v Speaker 3>kind of want to see my kids reactions to it, <v Speaker 3>because they they haven't seen anything for Horizon other well, <v Speaker 3>that's not true. They saw it an Astrobot. Oh right, <v Speaker 3>they saw they have those stage in Astrobot, and so <v Speaker 3>my okay, here's another take on this game that here's <v Speaker 3>the real game over there. I'm just like, hey, does <v Speaker 3>this do anything for you? Are you more curious about <v Speaker 3>this world? Look at this heroic woman doing stuff. Is <v Speaker 3>that something that you, as little girls are interested in? Maybe? Maybe? <v Speaker 3>So we'll see this is the game that you know, <v Speaker 3>they're still playing a ton of Tiers of the Kingdom, Like, well, <v Speaker 3>when Breath of the Wild came out, this is the <v Speaker 3>game that distracted everybo That was the game that distracted <v Speaker 3>everyone from Horizon or maybe you want to check that <v Speaker 3>out now. I don't know what the reaction will be. <v Speaker 3>Maybe you know, they haven't played a lot of Lego <v Speaker 3>games either, though, so maybe they'll be interested in that. <v Speaker 3>I don't know. Hey, a lot of the reviews JAN <v Speaker 3>are people saying I don't know who this is for. <v Speaker 3>And you know, I'm not someone who finds that a <v Speaker 3>very useful thing to say in a review, Like we <v Speaker 3>say it all the time on this show, so I <v Speaker 3>get the sort of urge to want to say that, <v Speaker 3>but in a review, just tell me is it for you? <v Speaker 3>Are you having fun? Don't imagine someone else that'd be like, <v Speaker 3>is this for them? And yet I totally get what <v Speaker 3>people are saying. It's like, if it is not for <v Speaker 3>Horizon fans and it's not necessarily super engaging or for kids, <v Speaker 3>even yea, who this is for is pretty damning, right right? <v Speaker 4>I mean, this feels like a slight misunderstanding as to <v Speaker 4>the existing place they audience or Horizon fan base where <v Speaker 4>I Horizon has always felt like a fairly serious type <v Speaker 4>of game, and that's pretty involved and expects you to <v Speaker 4>get invested into Aloy's story and get invested into the <v Speaker 4>world that putting it in lego form feels a little <v Speaker 4>bit too twee and a different type of whimsy than <v Speaker 4>the series is kind of pushing you to feel. So <v Speaker 4>it feels like a misunderstanding of that. And I don't <v Speaker 4>necessarily think that the existing Horizon fan base is skews <v Speaker 4>that young to want a lego version of a game. Also, <v Speaker 4>I just don't I understand that the Horizon franchise as <v Speaker 4>a whole is much bigger than this website will would <v Speaker 4>lead you to believe, oh for sure. By that being <v Speaker 4>said again, I don't think the Horizon fans are particularly <v Speaker 4>clamoring for another entry into the world of Horizon through <v Speaker 4>the Guys or through the lego vehicle. Right. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, you know what it reminds me of when a <v Speaker 3>corporation is like, look, we have this thing, we want growth, <v Speaker 3>so let's go sit, let's have a meeting. Let's put <v Speaker 3>a meeting on the schedule, invite all the stakeholders here, <v Speaker 3>and everyone throw out ideas for what can we do <v Speaker 3>to get a new audience into this thing. And people <v Speaker 3>just throw out stuff and they're like it's like half <v Speaker 3>hearted and they don't really believe in it, but they're <v Speaker 3>just trying to keep the meeting going, and someone says, Horizon, <v Speaker 3>we can get that to grow, but what if we <v Speaker 3>reached out to kids. What can we do to reach <v Speaker 3>out to kids? And they just like, I'm a kart <v Speaker 3>racer this or that, maybe we can do one of <v Speaker 3>those lego games. And then and then some like older <v Speaker 3>person or some like the higher ups say, oh, I've <v Speaker 3>seen my kids play those lego games. That'd be great, <v Speaker 3>do one of those, and it just sort of happens <v Speaker 3>because people are like, this is what we kind of <v Speaker 3>want this to happen, and we think this is the <v Speaker 3>vehicle to make that happen, and no one really understands, <v Speaker 3>no one really involved understands like like, well this is <v Speaker 3>actually gonna work. Yeah, and then we kind of end <v Speaker 3>up with this. It's it's odd, and I think we <v Speaker 3>always felt that way, and now kind of seeing the <v Speaker 3>delivered product getting received this way, it's like, Okay, it <v Speaker 3>is exactly what we thought it was going to be. Now. <v Speaker 3>Seawana Chet has been playing it. Apparently Shanna Che Show Turbo <v Speaker 3>Sean has been playing it, and he says that he's <v Speaker 3>been enjoying it. It's simple but fun, and he also <v Speaker 3>agrees it's kind of aimless in terms of the audience <v Speaker 3>that it's trying to reach. Yeah, the game's out on <v Speaker 3>switch though, so so Yeah. <v Speaker 4>The bummer part of it also being on switch grub <v Speaker 4>is that I think this has a high likelihood of <v Speaker 4>out selling Astrobot. <v Speaker 2>Uh. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, you're not wrong, that's bah boy. Ouch. Yeah, you're wrong. <v Speaker 3>You're not wrong. It's a kid's game with a brand <v Speaker 3>name and maybe some marketing on a switch where that <v Speaker 3>those kinds of games just sort of sell. Lego games <v Speaker 3>just sort of sell. I bet, I bet at least <v Speaker 3>matches what and at least matches. <v Speaker 4>And you know, for the like the Lego diehards out there, <v Speaker 4>there are existing Horizon. At least there's the Tall Neck <v Speaker 4>the Long Neck creature Lego set from Horizon, so that's there. <v Speaker 4>I don't know, like when I think of Lego Star <v Speaker 4>Wars or even the other Lego offshoots of other games, <v Speaker 4>it just feels like a fun Easter egg hunt or <v Speaker 4>a fun reliving of the different franchises or movies. I <v Speaker 4>just don't feel that with I don't have that desire <v Speaker 4>with Horizon. But maybe that's because I don't like Horizon. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'll say when I played it, it was like, oh, <v Speaker 3>I'm like, I vaguely remember starting those games, and they're <v Speaker 3>making a lot of jokes that even I get about <v Speaker 3>the story. And I do really like the Lego sense <v Speaker 3>of humor. Yeah, you know the Lego Star Wars specials, <v Speaker 3>the Lego Star Wars TV shows. Uh, they have a <v Speaker 3>very sharp wit to them, and that is preserved here, <v Speaker 3>at least through the first little bit that I played. <v Speaker 3>And it's like, oh, yeah, this this skewed take on <v Speaker 3>this very serious story. It's like, I know that that <v Speaker 3>does work for me. And yet I think you're still <v Speaker 3>right in that when you say do just when you <v Speaker 3>ask someone do you want that, I think most people <v Speaker 3>will be like, I don't know. And then I think <v Speaker 3>once they play it, Oh this is fine. Sure I'll <v Speaker 3>accept this. I'll enjoy this, but it's not something I <v Speaker 3>was asking for. And there's a gap always between serving <v Speaker 3>people something they don't know they want and some of <v Speaker 3>the people think they don't want. I think it's something <v Speaker 3>something that people think they don't want, not that they oh, <v Speaker 3>I don't know if I want that. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. Someone had joked around in chat it was either <v Speaker 4>this or Lego Last of Us. I'm not gonna lie group. <v Speaker 4>I think I'd be into Lego Last of Us. <v Speaker 3>That would be a very that'd be very interesting. Yeah yeah, <v Speaker 3>I mean, but this is this game apparently shuns like <v Speaker 3>they explained cultist to kids and stuff and the game, <v Speaker 3>so yeah, well there's always gonna be that weird thing <v Speaker 3>of like, this is a mature idea, let's put into <v Speaker 3>a Lego game and then let's turn it into a <v Speaker 3>fun kids story. <v Speaker 4>I guess if they wanted to do this with any <v Speaker 4>of their other existing franchises again, Horizon wouldn't be my <v Speaker 4>first Sony pick right. I would think of a Lego <v Speaker 4>God of War would also be funny. Yeah, yeah, Last <v Speaker 4>of Us even like a Lego Ratchet and Clank or <v Speaker 4>Lego day Sean, a Lego day Sean. Yeah, imagine a <v Speaker 4>motorcycle completely built out of Lego I. <v Speaker 3>Go and chart. <v Speaker 4>It would be funny. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. I hope that, you know. I don't know if <v Speaker 3>I hope, but I wouldn't mind if this turns into like, Okay, <v Speaker 3>well that was fun. Let's do that again with all <v Speaker 3>our other franchises, like you're suggesting, And I hope this <v Speaker 3>doesn't derail it at the very least if we never <v Speaker 3>get another PlayStation first party Lego game based on one <v Speaker 3>of their franchises, I'm not gonna beat an I I'm <v Speaker 3>not going to lose any sleep. But if if they <v Speaker 3>show up, like a year and a half from now, <v Speaker 3>and they do have one of those ones you mentioned about, Okay, this, <v Speaker 3>I'm glad they're doing this. This seems like a decent <v Speaker 3>way of taking what they have and trying to reach <v Speaker 3>more kids. Sure, maybe it didn't work great with Horizon, <v Speaker 3>but that doesn't mean give up on it. And that's <v Speaker 3>where I'm at. You know, if this is not for me, this, <v Speaker 3>if this is not for my kids, Okay, maybe the <v Speaker 3>next one could be. Yeah. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>If this means that Sony is trying to skew towards <v Speaker 4>younger audiences or have more fun in general, I'm all <v Speaker 4>for it. <v Speaker 3>Yep. All right, let's keep rolling here with this first <v Speaker 3>story outside of the review, Phil Spencer says Avowed wasn't <v Speaker 3>delayed due to quality concerns. This is from Tom Ivan <v Speaker 3>at VGC. Microsoft has said that Avowed's delay wasn't the <v Speaker 3>result of quality concerns with the game. Obsidian's RPG was <v Speaker 3>once scheduled for release this year, but in August, Xbox <v Speaker 3>said it was pushing the title to February twenty twenty five, <v Speaker 3>with Microsoft having a relatively large first party line up <v Speaker 3>for late twenty twenty four. It said at the time <v Speaker 3>that it wanted to give players backlogs some breathing room. <v Speaker 3>Spencer discussed the delay in further detail in an interview <v Speaker 3>with Game File. Shout outs to Steven Tatillow in game File, <v Speaker 3>we can afford it when we have the Diablo expansion, <v Speaker 3>then Black Ops, then Indy and the Great Circle, he said, <v Speaker 3>we didn't have. We didn't move it because Obsidian need <v Speaker 3>at the time they'll use the time. Spencer added, Xbox <v Speaker 3>Game Studios head Matt Booty and I we plan it out. <v Speaker 3>We talk with the game Pass team. We said, Okay, <v Speaker 3>let's make sure we paste this out a little better. Okay, <v Speaker 3>Jan Let's accept everything he's saying at face value first <v Speaker 3>and say and say, okay. They are trying to make <v Speaker 3>sure they spread out these games to give each game <v Speaker 3>the best chance to succeed. Isn't that something that we've <v Speaker 3>asked them to pay attention to in the past. <v Speaker 4>Totally one hundred percent make the because Microsoft is releasing <v Speaker 4>so few games make every game feel like an event, right, <v Speaker 4>like a ten poll. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, and it's this I think does increase the chances <v Speaker 3>of Avowed being able to do that. You know that <v Speaker 3>call dude. It turns out Black Ops six did take <v Speaker 3>a lot of oxygen out of the room. People were <v Speaker 3>right to get out of the way of that game. <v Speaker 3>You know, they and they you know, they know what <v Speaker 3>they're doing. That's why everyone they sort of like, that's <v Speaker 3>why it feels like, oh man, this is the year <v Speaker 3>already over and now there are still games coming. Obviously <v Speaker 3>we just talked about some, but it feels like a <v Speaker 3>lot of big publishers got out of the way and <v Speaker 3>they knew to do that, and they were right, and <v Speaker 3>Microsoft might have known better than anyone. How Black Ops <v Speaker 3>six was trending. It's like, let's just not have a <v Speaker 3>vowed be caught in that wake. Let's see if we <v Speaker 3>can give it its own space earlier in the next year. Now, <v Speaker 3>early next year is not some dearth of games. There's <v Speaker 3>not some dearth of games. There's gonna be a lot <v Speaker 3>of stuff coming out in February specifically, it's very busy <v Speaker 3>so on the but maybe none of those are Black <v Speaker 3>ops six, right. <v Speaker 4>I I guess I still fear for a Vowed having <v Speaker 4>to deal with other games even in that February time slot, <v Speaker 4>because it took me a hot second to remember what <v Speaker 4>a vout even was. <v Speaker 3>Uh. <v Speaker 4>And if you know, we who are trying to stay <v Speaker 4>on top of the release calendar are having that issue, <v Speaker 4>it doesn't it doesn't bode well for about future if <v Speaker 4>they choose to dump it in February. And I hope <v Speaker 4>that it isn't being dumped and I hope it's actually <v Speaker 4>being propped up and like refocused to to uh give <v Speaker 4>it that proper attention upon release. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think it's part of it is maybe to <v Speaker 3>build a little bit better of a marketing plan for <v Speaker 3>the game. They were probably getting pretty close to it. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, But Greb like, it's if it's gonna be releasing <v Speaker 4>around the same time as Monster Hunter. Yes, and I <v Speaker 4>know that there are two very different games about is <v Speaker 4>more right Skyrim esque? Right? I feel like that Monster <v Speaker 4>Hunter audience has grown so so much over the last <v Speaker 4>couple of years that with money being tight as it is, right, <v Speaker 4>they're to hold their dollars and purchase Monster Hunter instead <v Speaker 4>of Avowed. <v Speaker 3>I think you're right that it's uh. You know, we <v Speaker 3>talk about Matt Piscutella at Sirkana, the industry tracking firm, <v Speaker 3>talking about black hole games, games that just have these <v Speaker 3>massive gravitational wells that suck everything in. Monster Hunter is <v Speaker 3>not one of those, but it's like a mini one <v Speaker 3>of those, where like every time a new one comes out, <v Speaker 3>it does sort of have its own a well of <v Speaker 3>gravity that that that does get capture a lot of people, <v Speaker 3>and it's getting bigger and it does feel like it <v Speaker 3>could be, you know, in the early part of next year, <v Speaker 3>could be the biggest one. <v Speaker 2>Uh. <v Speaker 3>At a certain point, though, you got to just release <v Speaker 3>a video game, and if you have it done, you <v Speaker 3>got to put it out. And if you are looking <v Speaker 3>at what you can control, which is your own games, <v Speaker 3>and you do have Indiana Jones and Black Ops six <v Speaker 3>and Diablo Expansion, and they're like, okay, in the holidays <v Speaker 3>are gonna be a bit messy because that, and people <v Speaker 3>are feeling a little bit squeezed on their wallet. Maybe <v Speaker 3>they feel a little bit better than the early part <v Speaker 3>of next year and we put it out then, and <v Speaker 3>maybe they also are coming off of hey, we I <v Speaker 3>just did get Black Ops six or I got game <v Speaker 3>pass because of Black Op six and what am I <v Speaker 3>looking forward to next to play? Maybe, Okay, I guess <v Speaker 3>this Avowed game is something to pay attention to. Now, <v Speaker 3>I think you're right that a lot of people aren't <v Speaker 3>paying attention to Avowed. It's not it's not breaking through, <v Speaker 3>But that's okay. Now they have a little bit of <v Speaker 3>time to begin that story. Maybe they can accomplish that. <v Speaker 3>You know, the last round of previews were more positive. <v Speaker 3>I think so if they can do another one of those, <v Speaker 3>get one more push, I think that can help. Now <v Speaker 3>let's disregard all that and say, I don't know if <v Speaker 3>I believe him when he says that that it's it <v Speaker 3>wasn't about quality. I maybe it's not entirely about like, <v Speaker 3>oh this was a bad game of we're fixing everything. <v Speaker 3>But it's like that last you know, a few weeks <v Speaker 3>of polish probably is going to help make it a <v Speaker 3>better game, right. <v Speaker 4>A hundred percent? One hundred percent I for a game <v Speaker 4>that is maybe UH have previewed not the best, I <v Speaker 4>think that they need to jump out to get out <v Speaker 4>the gate completely fine in one hundred percent grub where <v Speaker 4>if this game even is hinted at having a couple <v Speaker 4>issues performance wise or gameplay wise, whatever, it's gonna inhibit <v Speaker 4>a lot of people from picking it up, even as <v Speaker 4>like a curiosity buy, even if they're not necessarily into <v Speaker 4>Monster Hunter, they're not into Black Ops six, and they're <v Speaker 4>still looking for a Skyrim adjacent game to play. I <v Speaker 4>don't know if any negative buzz around it performance wise <v Speaker 4>is gonna help, Right. <v Speaker 3>And then let's see what else do they have for <v Speaker 3>We'll talk about South of Mid ninet a second. But <v Speaker 3>if I'm trying to remember what else does Microsoft have <v Speaker 3>for next year that they've like confirmed, it's it's these <v Speaker 3>two games may and then there's a lot of possibility <v Speaker 3>for maybe even Perfect Arc to come out, something like that, <v Speaker 3>a fable that could come out. So and then if <v Speaker 3>these games are like, oh, it's about give this game <v Speaker 3>its own space avowed, maybe that does mean like that <v Speaker 3>stuff is definitely in the later half of next year, <v Speaker 3>which I think we all kind of are feeling is <v Speaker 3>probably the case. All right, let's get this next one. <v Speaker 3>I just added this into here. Classic RTS games Warcraft <v Speaker 3>and Warcraft two fully remastered are are They have been <v Speaker 3>fully remastered and they're out now. This is from Zach <v Speaker 3>Swyzen at kotaku a. Blizzard has announced that the original <v Speaker 3>Warcraft and Warcraft two, as well as its expansions, are <v Speaker 3>being remastered and re released as part of a new <v Speaker 3>battle chest. This new package also includes Warcraft three Reforged, <v Speaker 3>which has received a new update, new updates improving its <v Speaker 3>visuals and all this is available now. Now we knew this, <v Speaker 3>but there's also like, Okay, we can see how these <v Speaker 3>games look now, and it's yeah, I'll say, someone who's <v Speaker 3>never played a lot of Warcraft, when I see the <v Speaker 3>updated visuals, I don't see much of a difference. But <v Speaker 3>a lot of people who really like Warcraft are like this, <v Speaker 3>this new shit looks like shit. They hate it. Oh, <v Speaker 3>it's so, I think. I think the the problem is, <v Speaker 3>like there's they're taking the classic sprites and putting them <v Speaker 3>through filters that maybe smoothed them out a bit too much, <v Speaker 3>which I hate when that happens in my games, And <v Speaker 3>so I appreciate that. I'm just like looking at it, like, <v Speaker 3>I don't know, it looks it looks kind of the <v Speaker 3>same to me. So again, I'm not someone who this <v Speaker 3>would affect, but yeah, why can't they get these Warcraft <v Speaker 3>remasters right. They struggled with Warcraft three Reforged, and as <v Speaker 3>part of this, I think they made some updates to <v Speaker 3>that too. But I mean, this is one of your, <v Speaker 3>you know, venerated franchises. Why can't you get this right? <v Speaker 4>Maybe they're scared of Doda. They just don't want they <v Speaker 4>just don't want Doda to to happen again. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, if they want to, like a just handicap it, <v Speaker 3>kneecap it. So I just can't get to that point. Yeah, exactly. <v Speaker 3>I did watch Mike play some of this last night <v Speaker 3>and he hit one button and it went back to <v Speaker 3>the old graphics instantaneously, and it was very funny to <v Speaker 3>watch his chat and they're like, oh, it looks so <v Speaker 3>much better. Oh thank god. And I'm like, okay, I <v Speaker 3>see that this is affecting you guys greatly. Again, I <v Speaker 3>just I don't notice it. But hey, I might play <v Speaker 3>these games. I have always been Warcraft curious, would like <v Speaker 3>and this seems like a decent way to play it, <v Speaker 3>So I might do. <v Speaker 4>That, you know, I might do the same grub. I <v Speaker 4>checked out StarCraft two for the first time earlier this year. <v Speaker 4>My brain is still broken, so maybe Warcraft Warcraft two <v Speaker 4>will help fix it. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, maybe these are all like available in like a <v Speaker 3>big package together, I think. During Wednesday's Warcraft thirtieth anniversary direct, <v Speaker 3>Bizzard announced a series of updates to existing Warcraft games. <v Speaker 3>For example, Warcraft Rumble is getting new heroes and we'll <v Speaker 3>be playable on PC next month. Forgot about that game. <v Speaker 3>And Warcraft's spin off card game, I think it's like <v Speaker 3>a imagine. It's like a clash of plans. It's a <v Speaker 3>mobile game, I think. And warcraft spin off card game <v Speaker 3>Heartstone is getting a Star StarCraft mini expansion in January. <v Speaker 3>That's interesting. But the big news was the announcement and <v Speaker 3>release of a new war Craft Arts collection, bringing remastered <v Speaker 3>versions of the first three games to a new generation <v Speaker 3>via a just released updated edition of the classic battle Chest. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, and I guess you Warcraft three reforged as well, <v Speaker 3>which again I think they did update to make it <v Speaker 3>a little bit better. So a two point zero update, <v Speaker 3>all right. <v Speaker 4>No, Warcraft Rumble does look like Class Royoh. <v Speaker 3>You can play that too. <v Speaker 4>I need I need to stay away. <v Speaker 3>Oh boy, oh no, South of Midnight's release month might <v Speaker 3>have been revealed by mistake. This is from Jonas Mackie <v Speaker 3>a game reactor. We've had a lot of news about <v Speaker 3>The South of Midnight in the last couple of days, <v Speaker 3>following the release of a lengthy documentary about the development, <v Speaker 3>as well as further information revealed in interviews. Thanks to that, <v Speaker 3>we now have a lot more light into the seemingly <v Speaker 3>quirky action of venture game, which which lets us explore <v Speaker 3>a fantasy version of the American Deep South. If people <v Speaker 3>are trying to like place this game, it was the <v Speaker 3>one in the Xbox showcases that had that maybe not <v Speaker 3>stop motion but animated on the two's yeah, sort of <v Speaker 3>look to it. It was like, you know, jerky, but <v Speaker 3>in a positive way. It had a very strong style. <v Speaker 3>The characters had like, very a strong visual appeal, and <v Speaker 3>it was like, Okay, we're going to tell a story <v Speaker 3>about black characters in the American South. So it stood <v Speaker 3>out in its distinction in that way as well. We <v Speaker 3>have gotten a lot of information about it recently, but <v Speaker 3>now there might be some indication of when it's coming out. <v Speaker 3>What we don't know, however, is when it will be released. <v Speaker 3>Xbox Game Studio hasn't wanted to be more precise than <v Speaker 3>saying it's coming to twenty twenty five, but perhaps we've <v Speaker 3>gotten a much better indication of the release date thanks <v Speaker 3>to a possible mistake. Microsoft, Compulsion Games and Cook and <v Speaker 3>Becker have announced a massive vinyl edition with the music <v Speaker 3>from the game. It's called the Art and Music of <v Speaker 3>South of Midnight box Set, and it's described as follows. <v Speaker 3>The Art and Music of South of Midnight Box Set <v Speaker 3>consists of a breath taking one hundred and sixty page <v Speaker 3>art book with gold foil and gilded edges, and a <v Speaker 3>two LP vinyl with the full soundtrack of a soundtrack <v Speaker 3>of the game presented in a beautiful gatefold, all with <v Speaker 3>original concept art and designs from the production of the <v Speaker 3>game to further expand upon Hero Hazel's magical, mysterious world. <v Speaker 3>The set includes a gorgeous South of Midnight comic book <v Speaker 3>by award winning artists Rob Gilroy, an artist and artwork <v Speaker 3>on Metal or an Artwork on Metal, and a big <v Speaker 3>Tour's fridge magnet featuring an alligator and an airboat. Previously, <v Speaker 3>it was stated that this is no longer the quote. Previously, <v Speaker 3>it was stated that the massive vinyl collection would be <v Speaker 3>released on April thirtieth, twenty twenty five, but after people <v Speaker 3>drew attention to this in the media and on social media. <v Speaker 3>That has been mysteriously removed. Now people are theorizing jan <v Speaker 3>that they were asked to remove the date because maybe <v Speaker 3>they aren't aware of how sensitive this is for video <v Speaker 3>game companies, and so they accidentally revealed a date that <v Speaker 3>could tell the story of when the game is coming out, <v Speaker 3>because people are like, would this come out before the game? Now, <v Speaker 3>that's possible. It could come out April thirtieth, and the <v Speaker 3>game's coming out in May. But I don't think it <v Speaker 3>comes out. I don't think this comes out in April <v Speaker 3>thirtieth and then the game comes out in November. Right, <v Speaker 3>It's like if it comes out to a few weeks <v Speaker 3>before the game at most, Right. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, especially the way that they're formatting all of this <v Speaker 4>extraneous stuff, I wouldn't. It just feels like both would <v Speaker 4>get lost in the shuffle if you're not releasing them <v Speaker 4>at least in close proximity to each other. That being said, <v Speaker 4>Grub very excited for this game. I've been watching a <v Speaker 4>lot of movies with airboats or boats in general. I <v Speaker 4>think I want to get out on the water, Grub, <v Speaker 4>And I remember, I don't notice one well. <v Speaker 3>I love jackets. Are they work? You know, just wear <v Speaker 3>one be a truth boy. Yeah, I really jive with <v Speaker 3>the with the vibe of this game. I'm interested to <v Speaker 3>see like a different game that just feels this different <v Speaker 3>that that is going to be refreshing. And yeah, it <v Speaker 3>also looks like it's going to be action adventure. There's <v Speaker 3>going to be meat to the bone of the game. <v Speaker 3>So you know, not that if it was a narrative <v Speaker 3>visual novel, I would have a problem with it. But <v Speaker 3>it's like it just looks like, oh, they're really putting <v Speaker 3>out a big game that feels different. I'm excited by that. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, and I'm excited for this to be coming out <v Speaker 4>of Microsoft as well. Please more like this, yep. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, And I you know, I think that was the <v Speaker 3>story of the development is they started making it and <v Speaker 3>as they were like, what can we just do to <v Speaker 3>make this, you know, feel like its own thing more <v Speaker 3>and more? And that just led them down this path <v Speaker 3>over here and you know, to start a black woman <v Speaker 3>and book. Yeah, let's let's get that more of that. <v Speaker 3>That would be great. All Right, We're gonna take a <v Speaker 3>break now. When we come back more to talk about, <v Speaker 3>including the future of you know, maybe a PlayStation five <v Speaker 3>game that could be coming out next year as well. <v Speaker 3>What's going on with that PlayStation five price cut that <v Speaker 3>we talked about earlier this week? Right after this all right, <v Speaker 3>we are back. And you ever watched like the to <v Speaker 3>the Fastest two minutes that Chris Berman would do on <v Speaker 3>Monday Night Football where he would go, do the whoop, whoop, <v Speaker 3>and then whenever like there was some weird thing happened, <v Speaker 3>they go when you were just doing that sound before <v Speaker 3>the break, That's what it reminded me of, and else <v Speaker 3>reminded me. I wanted to do that. When we were <v Speaker 3>introducing the show and I said PlayStation's latest switch game, <v Speaker 3>I wanted to go, huh. <v Speaker 4>Like Chris Berman, I'm glad that I can. I can <v Speaker 4>pull at the strings in your memory. <v Speaker 3>Grow Yeah, fastest three minutes. Thank you. The people over <v Speaker 3>at part of my take, they do fastest two minutes, <v Speaker 3>all right. Horizon the multi Yeah, the Horizon multiplayer game <v Speaker 3>will release next year. According to a rumor. This is <v Speaker 3>from Alex Hopley at Game Reactor. It's full steam ahead <v Speaker 3>on the Horizon train, as Sony and Gorilla Games are <v Speaker 3>once more working towards an upcoming release set in the <v Speaker 3>post apocalyptic American Midwest. After two solo adventures as a <v Speaker 3>loy and we're ready to take on some robotic dinos <v Speaker 3>with a friend as Horizon is set to go multiplayer <v Speaker 3>in its latest release that will come out in twenty <v Speaker 3>twenty five, at least, that's according to speculation leading from <v Speaker 3>a new job listing. As spotted by Eagle Eyed Joe <v Speaker 3>wrapped over on Twitter, Gorilla is looking for an intern <v Speaker 3>that will help the online project through the first half <v Speaker 3>of twenty twenty five. They'll be ensuring the game is <v Speaker 3>ready to launch during that time, so we can imagine <v Speaker 3>that pushes the release date to the second half of <v Speaker 3>next year. Of course, of course, nothing is official here, <v Speaker 3>so keep that tinfoil hat on, but we do know <v Speaker 3>a Horizon multiplayer game is in the works. Okay. As <v Speaker 3>always Jen with these sorts of stories, it's like, okay, yeah, <v Speaker 3>I mean, there's only so much you can glean from <v Speaker 3>a job posting that was probably dictated to somebody by <v Speaker 3>someone who might know something who might and then that's <v Speaker 3>something they might know might be from someone who doesn't <v Speaker 3>really have a decision about when this game is coming out, <v Speaker 3>even in their head. So it's a chain of decisions <v Speaker 3>that maybe this means something, maybe it doesn't. Now let's <v Speaker 3>again let's accept that. Okay, sure this is coming out <v Speaker 3>next year. That one makes sense because if you have <v Speaker 3>been working on this game since Horizon too, and then <v Speaker 3>probably in parallel with Horizon two, you will probably with <v Speaker 3>the hopes of this would be an in between game <v Speaker 3>between Horizon two and then whatever comes next to Horizon three, <v Speaker 3>and so you wouldn't want this to be like five <v Speaker 3>years on and you want to probably get most of <v Speaker 3>the team working over there on the next big, major <v Speaker 3>single player of narrative adventure Horizon game. So get this <v Speaker 3>out in twenty twenty five if possible. Sounds right to me. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I mean the tool set and resources or assets <v Speaker 4>available for not Monster Hunter Horizon must be pretty expansive, <v Speaker 4>where you know, working in tandem or in parallel with <v Speaker 4>Oh well, I just we are really bad. Sorry, sorry, sorry, <v Speaker 4>we cussed with the existing teams. I feel like it <v Speaker 4>is a doable job. I think I may be more <v Speaker 4>interested in this than the lego Horizon. Yeah, just because like, hey, <v Speaker 4>you know, like the the tools at your disposal as <v Speaker 4>a player to hunt, the different mechanical monsters can be <v Speaker 4>pretty fun. It is pretty expansive. So doing that with <v Speaker 4>like a gang of folk that could be fun. I <v Speaker 4>is everyone constantly talking or is it just like dead silence? <v Speaker 3>Uh? Yeah, just like Oh I should pick that up. <v Speaker 3>Oh my bag is full. Just I'll be doing that <v Speaker 3>to you constantly. I can't wait. <v Speaker 4>Bag is full, My bag is full, My bag is full. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. I think I generally agree with you that I <v Speaker 3>am at least academically curious in this one. I am. <v Speaker 3>I always like the idea of having something fun to <v Speaker 3>do multiplayer that could be a little bit different than <v Speaker 3>the last game we tried. And uh, you know, Gorilla <v Speaker 3>has built a world that at least looks really beautiful <v Speaker 3>and does have some cool mechanics. And if this means <v Speaker 3>that there is a de emphasis on U kind of <v Speaker 3>you know, dragging me through the story, which I know <v Speaker 3>a lot of people love, and I don't think it's <v Speaker 3>done bad, it's just not for me, then okay, maybe <v Speaker 3>this one could be more for me. And either way, though, <v Speaker 3>they're they're not building this game with the hopes of <v Speaker 3>we got to win over Jeff Grubb, it is we <v Speaker 3>are trying to build a bigger and bigger Horizon universe <v Speaker 3>that gets more and more people in. So let's get <v Speaker 3>the multiplayer in so we can maybe get the kinds <v Speaker 3>of people who are hesitant, and then they will be <v Speaker 3>interested in going in and checking out the other Horizon games. <v Speaker 3>And that means having a new Horizon game, the real <v Speaker 3>Horizon game after that. And you know, we heard recently <v Speaker 3>the reporting. I think you know, Jason was telling us <v Speaker 3>what Jason Shreyer was telling us when we had him <v Speaker 3>on the BombCast that you know a lot of people <v Speaker 3>from the team, they're not working on Horizon three. They're <v Speaker 3>all working on this Horizon multiplayer game. That is they <v Speaker 3>want to get past that. They want to like, yeah, <v Speaker 3>get to a point where those people are working on <v Speaker 3>the next big thing. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I can't imagine. I'll say this folks at home, and <v Speaker 4>I know you get frustrated any and every time we <v Speaker 4>talk about Horizon. I don't think we're saying that Horizon <v Speaker 4>is a bad game at any point. Yeah, it is, <v Speaker 4>just we just bounce off of it. I think for <v Speaker 4>me personally, it is a little too much like a <v Speaker 4>Red Dead redemption to for me, it feels like a <v Speaker 4>bit more of a chore to play the game. Sometimes. <v Speaker 4>That being said, I'll be open, I'll be by curious <v Speaker 4>to this Horizon's multiplayer game. Be you why guys, all right, <v Speaker 4>come on, come on you and I'm curious to check <v Speaker 4>it out. I think this is this is probably the <v Speaker 4>better strategy in my head, rather than doing Lego Horizons, <v Speaker 4>because okay, you want to get that audience want that <v Speaker 4>plays games with their friends. This may be a good <v Speaker 4>on ramp where you have one diehard Horizon fan that <v Speaker 4>gets their friends into it. Because it's a multiplayer game. <v Speaker 4>It can be a game where you hang out in right, <v Speaker 4>where maybe the story isn't as much as of the <v Speaker 4>focus because it is a multiplayer game where you and <v Speaker 4>like three other Joe Schmo's can just goof off and <v Speaker 4>hunt monsters and maybe go fishing for mechanical dolphins. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, honestly sounds pleasant to me. So we'll see. And <v Speaker 3>you know, again, this rumor is only it's barely a rumor, <v Speaker 3>but I think when we kind of think about it <v Speaker 3>circumstantially and where PlayStation's at and the kinds of games <v Speaker 3>that they've been working on recently, and maybe like you know, <v Speaker 3>having recent disasters in the live service space, it's like, Okay, Grilla, <v Speaker 3>You've done a lot of work here. We do think <v Speaker 3>this one can work. We do want different things in <v Speaker 3>the Horizon world. So we're not going to cancel this one, <v Speaker 3>but maybe wrap things up. Maybe let's just wrap that. <v Speaker 3>Let's just kind of add some closure to this process. <v Speaker 3>Get this game done, get it out the door. And <v Speaker 3>I think a second half of twenty twenty five release <v Speaker 3>date sounds like it would line up with that as well, <v Speaker 3>so we'll see. Earlier this week talked about a PS <v Speaker 3>five price cut for the holidays. There is an update <v Speaker 3>there and maybe it's less certain than it was, maybe <v Speaker 3>it's a little bit more nebulous. PS five price cut <v Speaker 3>for the holidays has been edited out of new Sony trailer. <v Speaker 3>This is from Eddie McCoo at Spot. On November twelfth, <v Speaker 3>Sony published a marketing trailer for the PlayStation five that <v Speaker 3>ended with the announcement that the Digital PlayStation five Slim <v Speaker 3>would be marked down for the holidays. That trailer has <v Speaker 3>since been edited and re uploaded to remove all mention <v Speaker 3>of the temporary discount. The trailer original originally stated that <v Speaker 3>the Digital PS five Slim would be on sale until <v Speaker 3>December twenty fourth for three hundred and eighty dollars. The <v Speaker 3>system originally launched for four hundred dollars before Sony raised <v Speaker 3>the price to four hundred and fifty. Bringing it down <v Speaker 3>to three hundred eighty dollars for the holidays is a <v Speaker 3>nice offer, and hopefully it comes back. Microsoft already slashed <v Speaker 3>the price of the Xbox Series X by fifty dollars <v Speaker 3>for the holidays, So I didn't know that. I guess <v Speaker 3>I didn't realize that. The video has since been re uploaded, <v Speaker 3>with many commenters poking fun at Sony for editing out <v Speaker 3>mention of the deal. Game Spot has contacted Sony to <v Speaker 3>try to find out what's going on here. What do <v Speaker 3>you think, Jan, what do you think is happening? <v Speaker 4>I don't think they want to advertise a price cut, <v Speaker 4>super I don't think they want to advertise for the <v Speaker 4>price cut when they're struggling to sell the PS five <v Speaker 4>pro is the basic gist of it. <v Speaker 3>Grub Yeah, and I wonder if it's like putting it <v Speaker 3>in a trailer from Sony makes it feel like this <v Speaker 3>thing is like almost officially having a price cut that <v Speaker 3>feels semi permanent. Where I Yeah, sure, they said it <v Speaker 3>was through December twenty fourth, but it's you know, early November. <v Speaker 3>I guess it's mid November. Now, it's not that long, <v Speaker 3>but it's like, you know, it still feels like there's <v Speaker 3>a long time till Christmas and we're not a Thanksgiving yet. <v Speaker 3>People aren't really fully in the Christmas mood yet. And <v Speaker 3>it's like, Okay, for the next several weeks, this thing's <v Speaker 3>going to be three hundred and eighty. It'll be hard <v Speaker 3>for the thing to go back to four hundred and <v Speaker 3>fifty after that. That would feel pretty aggressive, so they <v Speaker 3>maybe they don't want to have it like just in <v Speaker 3>a video forever that says this thing is three hundred <v Speaker 3>and eighty dollars, because then people be like, it wasn't <v Speaker 3>this thing three eighty? And then also they you know, retailers, <v Speaker 3>some retailers are like, we can't do that price. That's <v Speaker 3>you know, just the way things are right now. That's <v Speaker 3>too aggressive. We're just we're not we're not interested in <v Speaker 3>even like you know, stocking more ps fives slims if <v Speaker 3>you're gonna have to sell it at that price, So <v Speaker 3>you know, no, thank you, And I doubt most retailers <v Speaker 3>are behaving that way, but maybe one or two are <v Speaker 3>and that has caused some headaches for Sony, and they're like, <v Speaker 3>you know what, we will talk to our retailers and <v Speaker 3>they can put the three hundred and eighty hour price <v Speaker 3>tag in their you know, holiday flyer. They're black black <v Speaker 3>Friday flyer that everyone gets when they walk in the store, <v Speaker 3>they open the website, they can announce it there and <v Speaker 3>that makes it feel more like a price cut at <v Speaker 3>the retailer and less of a Sony mandated thing. Beyond that, though, <v Speaker 3>jan I struggle to understand why they would have done this, <v Speaker 3>because it's like, if you took all the time to <v Speaker 3>put that into a video, that must have been like <v Speaker 3>a decision that you all agreed on. Why backtrack on it? <v Speaker 4>I think you maybe onto something about putting it into <v Speaker 4>a trailer and like an officially made video by PlayStation <v Speaker 4>kind of just cements it as that it is forever <v Speaker 4>going to be stuck at that price rather than a <v Speaker 4>temporary holiday price cut. Where now there's that expectation of <v Speaker 4>going to a retailer, so you go to a Target, <v Speaker 4>Walmart wherever, and hey, ps five, the PlayStation said this <v Speaker 4>is only three eighty how come it's not and then <v Speaker 4>you'd have to go through the whole price match delio. <v Speaker 4>So perhaps that is the reason. Maybe they did feel <v Speaker 4>external pressure from retailers. I feel real dumb as a <v Speaker 4>consumer grub because the second you said three eighty, and <v Speaker 4>I already have a PS five, right, I don't need <v Speaker 4>a PS five Slim. I don't need a PSI Pro. <v Speaker 3>Same. <v Speaker 4>I hear that three eighty, I'm like, that's a good deal. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean, like, you know, I am like not <v Speaker 3>like super interested in getting a second PS five, but <v Speaker 3>I have thought about it here or there, and the <v Speaker 3>plan was just get a PS five Pro again three <v Speaker 3>eighty seven hundred and twice as much, almost basically effectively, <v Speaker 3>especially well, I guess they both wouldn't have the disdrive. <v Speaker 3>But you know, once I start the you know, honestly, <v Speaker 3>I get a PS five Pro, I do think I <v Speaker 3>should get a disdrive for this, because it's the Pro. <v Speaker 3>I want everything with it. I don't necessarily to feel <v Speaker 3>that way about the Slim Digital, but whatever, that's just me. <v Speaker 3>That's not a fair comparison. Still though, almost twice the price, <v Speaker 3>so I'm like, well, I have the PS five Pro <v Speaker 3>is still not something that I'm just sitting around thinking <v Speaker 3>maybe I will get that. That's like, that's going to <v Speaker 3>take a real effort of saving money, putting it aside, <v Speaker 3>and then going out and making that choice. Three eighty <v Speaker 3>is a lot easier to just be like, oh, I <v Speaker 3>got that money to spare right now, I'll should just <v Speaker 3>go get that thing. So, I mean, I think that's <v Speaker 3>what they want you to feel. That's what they want <v Speaker 3>people to begin thinking about the PS five At this point, <v Speaker 3>it's a life cycle. We are deep enough that it's like, hey, <v Speaker 3>we kind of want to start getting that next tier <v Speaker 3>down of people who are more price sensitive. So again, <v Speaker 3>it made sense when they made this announcement. It makes <v Speaker 3>a lot less sense now that they've just completely re <v Speaker 3>edited the video. That's why it's like something must have <v Speaker 3>gone wrong there. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, you think you think they thought like, hey, what <v Speaker 4>if we just what if we don't do a price cut? <v Speaker 4>What if we just put it out and people just <v Speaker 4>buy it? Yeah, let's let's continue squeezing money out of people. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, part of it. I mean I know they wanted <v Speaker 3>to keep the price as high as possible for sure, <v Speaker 3>but after last year where they they had several long <v Speaker 3>term aggressive price cuts for the PS five to try <v Speaker 3>to reach a certain number number of PS five sold. <v Speaker 3>It seems like that's a tool they want to go <v Speaker 3>back to. But I don't know. Maybe they just announced <v Speaker 3>this in a different way at this point. Maybe it's <v Speaker 3>got a special announcement. Maybe that's like, let's save that <v Speaker 3>for right the week of Thanksgiving, for Black Friday, so <v Speaker 3>it can feel like a bigger splash even than what <v Speaker 3>they were getting now. <v Speaker 4>So yeah, maybe a holiday themed state of play. Perhaps <v Speaker 4>I'm not saying anything. Okay, barks at home, don't don't <v Speaker 4>get don't get worked up. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, Jans saying it though, everybody you should get worked up. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>that state of play. I know that the rumor was <v Speaker 3>going around, but a December one that people were hoping for. Again, <v Speaker 3>I just haven't heard about it. And when I asked <v Speaker 3>people who would know, they hadn't heard either. So we'll see. Okay, <v Speaker 3>last couple of stories here. Bethesa workers go on strike <v Speaker 3>against Microsoft. We talked about this briefly yesterday. Let's just <v Speaker 3>get a little bit more of the details. This is <v Speaker 3>from Blair marin Ell at GameSpot. Last year, quality assurance <v Speaker 3>workers at Bethesta and ZeniMax Studios formed ZeniMax Workers United, <v Speaker 3>the largest certified a video game union in the United States. <v Speaker 3>Now that union is putting its collective power to the <v Speaker 3>test in a brief strike against Bethesta and ZeniMax's parent <v Speaker 3>parent company, Microsoft. ZeniMax Workers United has been attempting to <v Speaker 3>negotiate a deal with Microsoft over remote work requirements, while <v Speaker 3>also limiting the number of outsourced QA workers who can <v Speaker 3>be brought in on Bethesta Bethesta's projects. The union didn't go, <v Speaker 3>didn't say who Microsoft, or didn't say you excuse me. <v Speaker 3>The union didn't say who Microsoft is outsourcing QA work too, <v Speaker 3>but it accused the company in ignoring request to negotiate. <v Speaker 3>They have continually given us their first proposal again and again, <v Speaker 3>and it's become obvious that our different mobilization tactics have <v Speaker 3>not worked. Test Lead Ryana Ecker said, Eckers yes, said <v Speaker 3>don't know. Ecker said, told inverse sorry her name ends, <v Speaker 3>and said and that threw me off. This one day <v Speaker 3>strike was called in an attempt to make Microsoft more <v Speaker 3>receptive to addressing the union's concerns. Yeah, this is this <v Speaker 3>is a tough one because it's like Microsoft has puts <v Speaker 3>on this friendly front publicly about its position towards unions, <v Speaker 3>and then you know, of course internally it's much stiffer. <v Speaker 3>It works a lot stiffer, and that is causing, you know, <v Speaker 3>headaches for these union members, and so they're trying, I <v Speaker 3>think they're trying to like demonstrate here's what we could <v Speaker 3>do to cause you more problems if we withheld our labor. <v Speaker 3>I hope this shakes something loose at Microsoft. At very <v Speaker 3>least it's getting attention. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. The more attention that this gets, this I would assume, <v Speaker 4>the stronger case the Bethesda workers would have against Microsoft, <v Speaker 4>because Yo, I strongly dislike grubbed. The little that I <v Speaker 4>know about game development, it feels like QA teams across <v Speaker 4>the board, whether they're internal or external, are constantly being <v Speaker 4>misused and abused. <v Speaker 3>Yep, Yeah, it's I really disliked this. The return to <v Speaker 3>work policies being used by these companies. I mentioned that yesterday. <v Speaker 3>I'll just repeat, like, I hate that. They really just <v Speaker 3>think of it as a new way to fire employees <v Speaker 3>without having to fire them. It's yea, we can tell <v Speaker 3>these people to return the office, and if we do that, <v Speaker 3>certain people won't return. We know it's a certain percentage, <v Speaker 3>So we're going to save cost an easy way, and <v Speaker 3>if a union has the ability to get protections against that, <v Speaker 3>they should do everything they can to establish that now <v Speaker 3>because it's not going to get fixed by labor law. <v Speaker 3>I mean not anytime soon for sure, and probably never <v Speaker 3>realistically in America, probably never. So yeah, do what you <v Speaker 3>can as a union to enshrine those protections, because that <v Speaker 3>is an unfair lever that these companies can pull to <v Speaker 3>use against you, and they the attemptation for them to <v Speaker 3>use it will be too strong for them to resist <v Speaker 3>under the capitalist system of Hey, we can get returns <v Speaker 3>for our investors if we save this much money, but <v Speaker 3>laying people off will look bad. So what can we do. Well, <v Speaker 3>we can look good to our investors by telling us <v Speaker 3>say we're going to be serious and tell them return <v Speaker 3>to work, come back to the office. And then at <v Speaker 3>the same time, we know we'll save money, which is <v Speaker 3>what we really want. That's too tempting. It's for them <v Speaker 3>to ignore, so they will keep doing it. So you've <v Speaker 3>got to get protections against that. Grub. <v Speaker 4>Here's a wild idea. Maybe these companies save money by <v Speaker 4>just you know, getting a smaller office. <v Speaker 3>Perhaps, Yeah, right, I mean there's so much of like <v Speaker 3>how they've invested in corporate real estate, office real estate <v Speaker 3>is such this like tangled web, and that's what they <v Speaker 3>really don't want to deal with, so they just do <v Speaker 3>all this other shit instead. Okay, well, that's not our <v Speaker 3>faults that you made these poor decisions, like you always <v Speaker 3>do your weirdos. Okay, last story. Ag Alanuma explains why <v Speaker 3>Zelda's gameplay takes priority over story. This is William Dulan <v Speaker 3>at Nintendo Life. Legend of Zelda's longtime producer, ag Alanuma <v Speaker 3>has recently been doing the press rounds to promote the <v Speaker 3>new entry, Echoes of Wisdom, but he's also been discussing <v Speaker 3>the design philosophy of the Zelda series in general. Speaking <v Speaker 3>to Washington Post reporter Gene Park recently, Alanuma shared one <v Speaker 3>rather interesting fact, mentioning how his team always prioritizes the gameplay, <v Speaker 3>with the story then used as a vessel for the gameplay. <v Speaker 3>Excuse me, here's exactly what he said. I've never really <v Speaker 3>made a game where you think out think of the <v Speaker 3>story first and then go into gameplay first. When you <v Speaker 3>think of the gameplay, what you're trying to do, what <v Speaker 3>you're trying to think of after that is how you <v Speaker 3>can get players to understand that gameplay. The story becomes <v Speaker 3>used as a vessel because it has a beginning and <v Speaker 3>an end and the players move through it. I think <v Speaker 3>it would actually be kind of difficult to do the <v Speaker 3>reverse and start with the story and then try to <v Speaker 3>match the gameplay mechanics to that. And that's I bet <v Speaker 3>this is how most people probably make games. And I <v Speaker 3>think personally, I'm just as I'm biased towards this. I <v Speaker 3>think that's if I'm going to play a game and <v Speaker 3>I noticed that it feels this way, I'm probably going <v Speaker 3>to prefer it. It's not the only way to make games, <v Speaker 3>for sure, but I think it has benefited this Elder <v Speaker 3>franchise right. <v Speaker 4>One hundred percent. It's interesting that there's in this specific <v Speaker 4>interview there is the story. Isn't the bigger focus for <v Speaker 4>al Numa and the team. That being said, Tears of <v Speaker 4>the Kingdom was probably one of the better of stories <v Speaker 4>and games in the last couple of years for me. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 4>So whatever workflow they're deciding to do at Nintendo with <v Speaker 4>al Numa, keep doing that dog, You're hitting it out <v Speaker 4>of the park. Keep doing ascend and then you can <v Speaker 4>ascend with whatever else afterwards. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, and I think it just makes sense, right, you <v Speaker 3>want to build something innovative in the gameplay, and then <v Speaker 3>when you got to sort of fill in, you know, <v Speaker 3>kind of paint by numbers with the story a little bit, <v Speaker 3>those confines can help you, will help rein you in <v Speaker 3>and force you to focus on the things that will <v Speaker 3>really be meaningful to people. And again, if that the <v Speaker 3>result is something that was as moving as Tiers of <v Speaker 3>the Kingdom, then I'm all for it. Although I know <v Speaker 3>there's a lot of Zelda fans who don't love Tiers <v Speaker 3>of the Kingdom, but I think it's because it doesn't match <v Speaker 3>the lore. I'm like, get out of here, your nerds, <v Speaker 3>youh damn nerds. All right, that's it for the headlines. <v Speaker 3>We have a poll question. Let me get that up <v Speaker 3>and going for everybody right here, and that means click <v Speaker 3>this and that and that's gonna refresh, all right. Do <v Speaker 3>you think the next Halo will release on PlayStation? Also? <v Speaker 3>I'm going to just say yes, but I'm not sure. <v Speaker 3>And hey, maybe I just put it over the top <v Speaker 3>there say yes, forty nine percent say no? Yeah, real, <v Speaker 3>flip the coin there within the margin of air. I'm sure. <v Speaker 3>Yeah again, Jen, I just I really don't know what <v Speaker 3>this looks like other than when I was talking to <v Speaker 3>Lucy about it yesterday and I thought about it. Let's <v Speaker 3>just how I like to think about a lot of <v Speaker 3>things on a longer term. If you really like project <v Speaker 3>things out in the future, what feels like it's going <v Speaker 3>to happen by then, And by then it's like, well, okay, ten, fifteen, <v Speaker 3>twenty years from now, Halo's just on everything. PlayStation probably <v Speaker 3>looks very different. It will be on PlayStation at that point, <v Speaker 3>They'll be everywhere. So why if they're thinking long term <v Speaker 3>at Microsoft, which I think they are, why wouldn't they <v Speaker 3>just say, let's just skip to that. And that's why <v Speaker 3>I think Halo's on the next PlayStation or on the <v Speaker 3>next Halo's on PlayStation. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I think with you know the success of Black <v Speaker 4>Op six and you know that releasing multi platform it <v Speaker 4>is a no brainer, especially with the Halo franchise kind <v Speaker 4>of struggling where it is right now, why not just <v Speaker 4>expand as much as you can Because Xbox or Microsoft <v Speaker 4>isn't in the business of trying to sell you a <v Speaker 4>specific box specifically anymore. They're just trying to reach the <v Speaker 4>gamers where they're at, and if they can hit PlayStation fans, <v Speaker 4>I think they will one hundred percent do that. Also, <v Speaker 4>there's something slightly like cool and taboo about seeing master <v Speaker 4>Chief on a PlayStation five. Ye imagine a Cortata skinned <v Speaker 4>PS five. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, apparently, you know, there's rumors, and these rumors haven't <v Speaker 3>corroborated by few a little bit of reporting that Call <v Speaker 3>of Duty is gonna get item crossover micro transaction crossovers <v Speaker 3>with Halo and Gears of War and stuff like that, <v Speaker 3>and so you know, master Chief in Call of Duty <v Speaker 3>in PlayStation's probably gonna happen very soon. I mean, it <v Speaker 3>was master Chief in Fortnite, so maybe that's already happened. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>but yeah, yeah, you know it's now it's gonna happen <v Speaker 3>in a Microsoft game as well. <v Speaker 4>So like it's only a matter of time as well, <v Speaker 4>Grub until we see a mobile Halo shooter. <v Speaker 3>Right, No, absolutely, right, yep, matter of time we'll see. Okay, <v Speaker 3>I got a new pole question. We'll get to that <v Speaker 3>in a second. Jan Achoa, what do we have going <v Speaker 3>on that we should tell people about later? Today? <v Speaker 4>We have an episode of voicemail dump truck tomorrow. One <v Speaker 4>last game this morning is before you depart for a <v Speaker 4>well deserved vacation. Grub looking forward to it. Yep, throw <v Speaker 4>your photo. Well, now you should take pictures of the fam. <v Speaker 4>But don't you need the Yeah, and you need the <v Speaker 4>Disney app. Don't you dare check up on this website <v Speaker 4>Tomorrow GB kids next door, we'll be playing a bit <v Speaker 4>of Black Ops X. Maybe I can convince Sean and <v Speaker 4>Nicky and Minati if Mike is free to play some <v Speaker 4>web fishing before that. Perfect. <v Speaker 3>I would like to see that. <v Speaker 4>And then next week and the following week are gonna <v Speaker 4>be a bit funky here on the website. Grub apologies <v Speaker 4>folks for things kind of being turbulent in terms of scheduling. <v Speaker 4>Not only will Grub be gone all week, but I <v Speaker 4>will be gone for most of the week as well <v Speaker 4>on some secret of Shanman stuff. And then follow it <v Speaker 4>the week after that is Thanksgiving, so it's a shorter week. <v Speaker 4>But hey, the people will be holding down the FLT. Yep, <v Speaker 4>don't worry about dour days that we don't worry about <v Speaker 4>the days that we are gone, because maybe the days <v Speaker 4>will be shown. <v Speaker 3>Today in a little bit, uh, you know, bar in <v Speaker 3>any last minute meetings which have been happening recently. I'm <v Speaker 3>going to try to do some VR stuff before we <v Speaker 3>go into Voicemail dump Truck. I got Batman VR ready <v Speaker 3>to go on the headset. I just got to make <v Speaker 3>sure that the connection to the PC for streaming it <v Speaker 3>is good and we'll do that next So we'll probably <v Speaker 3>start in about an hour. But yeah, I'm gonna do that. Uh, <v Speaker 3>it'll be a good time. So I might play some <v Speaker 3>mud Runner VR as well. If if Batman can't keep <v Speaker 3>us entertaining for the whole time, we'll see which probably <v Speaker 3>will be able to We'll see. Okay, all right, new <v Speaker 3>Pool question, are you getting Lego Horizon Adventures? Yes or no? <v Speaker 3>Just you know answer Honestly, I want to see how <v Speaker 3>people are feeling. We'll get the results of that for <v Speaker 3>Gameless Mornings to talk about here on Giant Bomb tomorrow. <v Speaker 3>One more time speaking to Giant Bomb. Just stick with us. <v Speaker 3>We'll have plenty of fun stuff. Definitely, we'll have Voicemail <v Speaker 3>down Truck all that stuff later in the meantime, though, <v Speaker 3>Jan I think that's going to do it for us. <v Speaker 3>Thank you so much for hanging out with me today <v Speaker 3>and talk about video games. Man, I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 4>It's the only way to start a Thursday. Also, wish <v Speaker 4>a speedy recovery to the hall meet im Ron Kahn. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, shout outs Damron. Man. He's a tough bastard. He's <v Speaker 3>going to be fine and yep, just looking forward to <v Speaker 3>getting them back doing one percent of the stuff he's <v Speaker 3>always done. I I've always really respected him and hope <v Speaker 3>he's all right. Okay, thank you all so much for watching. <v Speaker 3>You are the best audience in gaming. Until next time, <v Speaker 3>I have a good one, Take care of yourself and goodbye. <v Speaker 3>See you for Gameless Mornings tomorrow
