Speaker 1: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:37
Speaker 4: Well, welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday, April to twenty eighth, just a few days before the Oaks and the Derby here in Kentucky. Big storms hit the entire state yesterday. Hope everybody's all right. You can give selon the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line eight five to nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Avis and Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two seven to seven four five two five four In this edition sponsored by the TJ Mid Office called TJ He'll make Them Pay. Ryan Lemon is here. Shannon is in Louisville. I was just doing some some teaching Ryan of Billy right there, some radio mentorship.

00:01:15
Speaker 3: Mentor protege, because.

00:01:16
Speaker 4: You guys, Shannon on the pre show were giving away THEO Vaughn.

00:01:19
Speaker 1: Tickets, right, that's right, yep.

00:01:22
Speaker 4: First of all, I was like, well, why don't we give away theovon tickets on KSR? And he was like, I didn't think you'd want to, And I said, well, why didn't you ask me? He said, but I don't know. But then the way you all give it, right, Shannon, is you calling at the end of.

00:01:35
Speaker 1: The show today. Yes, but that's how you do.

00:01:38
Speaker 4: It most of the time. I mean, I hear you all give away tickets all the time, don't you almost always do it at the end of the show.

00:01:43
Speaker 1: We have tried to do contests before they usually blow up exactly.

00:01:46
Speaker 4: That's why it's great watching.

00:01:49
Speaker 1: Contest and we'll give you tickets.

00:01:51
Speaker 4: That's no, no, not now stop.

00:01:54
Speaker 1: No no no no. I mean, like that's what we were doing on the pre show.

00:01:57
Speaker 4: Yeah. But so I was saying to him, THEO Vaughn, while not my cup of tea, is clearly like hot now very popular like then. So I was like, listen, you've got something there that people really want. It's not like when Shandon's giving away sticks tickets, which I feel like he gives away every few.

00:02:14
Speaker 1: Don't beseech the name of sticks now give away sticks tickets ever?

00:02:17
Speaker 4: Maybe no, you all it's Kansas, all those groups, they're all the same. Then that's a that's a hot ticket, big big ticket.

00:02:29
Speaker 1: What is wrong with you?

00:02:31
Speaker 3: I said, big ticket?

00:02:32
Speaker 4: No you didn't. He needs I've got to send him somewhere for a little while.

00:02:41
Speaker 3: You're grown up.

00:02:43
Speaker 1: He didn't mean, I.

00:02:47
Speaker 4: Understand. But okay, So anyway, when's Drew getting back the way? It's not just Tuesday. Okay, shut up, you're you're silent for a minute. Okay. So as I was saying, you have big ticket, Shannon and you, I was like, Billy, you should integrate that in the show. People are gonna really want theovon tickets, and so find a way to make it like part of the show because that's a big prize. Yeah, and I and the proof was in the pudding because as soon as you all open the lines, they rang non stop, to the point you now have the lines X out because we were getting too many phone calls.

00:03:26
Speaker 1: And I agree with you. The problem was I didn't even know we were giving away with Theovon tickets about you talk to Billy.

00:03:32
Speaker 4: I was talking to Billy, and I said, so this was a mentorship of Billy. I'm not attacking you, Shannon, this was about This was about Billy. And so it was just a good lesson there for the for the future.

00:03:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, but we'll definitely do it a different way.

00:03:47
Speaker 4: When you have something big. Now, if you have something that's not big, like if you if you have Kansas tickets, then we don't worry about it. But when you have something big, like make it, make it part of it. So exactly if there's a game, if there's a game that's different, but if it's if it's now, then you they would. So it was just a little lesson. All right, I'll let you talk again. Everything all right, I think good.

00:04:14
Speaker 3: I think I was trying to say a big deal and a big ticket at the same time.

00:04:18
Speaker 4: You don't need to keep going over it. The point is, it's just interesting to me how everyone else is able, for the most part to not do that and you do it every day.

00:04:28
Speaker 3: That's just part of that's Velpenese. So we call it back in ot. Well, my dad's from Velping.

00:04:35
Speaker 4: You you knew that, right, Shandon, It makes perfect sense, Felponese. All right, So we this morning are waiting on recruiting stuff and to figure out if Kentucky's gonna have a roster. And this morning I was looking across the various college basketball sites and everybody has started to put out since the portal's slowing down their top twenty five's for next year. And we are ranked at this point in none of them. ESPN had their top thirty. We are not ranked in that the Athletic had their top twenty five. We're not ranked in that John Rostein had his top sixty. We were thirty eighth in that. So pretty much no entity has has ranked us. And it's in part because we have, like we still only have like six players that can that we'll see the floor. Right, So yeah, I mean you have you have Diallo, You've got Wilkins, You've got Cam Williams, Malachi Mourinho, in Ji, Trent Noah, and is that it outside well Braden Hawthorne. Yeah, so seven guys. Then you have Hawthorne's brother, and then you have Mason Williams. Maybe though one or two maybe those guys end up playing. I don't think you go and re have Reice Potter. I don't think you go into the season assuming those guys are gonna play Mother correct. Yes, So that's ten guys, three of which I think you can't really assume they're gonna play, and then if they do, that's an advantage. But none of those guys I just mentioned were ranked in the top two hundred recruits in their classes. Correct, So I don't think you can go in think and they're gonna play. So you then have five spots left, which I assume some of which will be filled over the coming days. So I saw some people online they were arguing with the folks about whether or not this is So this is what I want to do. Just tell Boyce we'll get him later. Okay, just exit, keep ex them out for a second. It has been said a lot about this show, and I totally understand the idea that like there's not been enough positivity, and we've talked about that, but I wanted to see the fan base out there that is feeling still very positive or feeling, if not very positive, at least optimistic both about next season and Pope in general. This is really a cry out for a minute to the people who say KSR slash UK fans are too negative, I want to hear from you to start this show today. Eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. I want to hear the people that genuinely, because there's a lot of chatter that Kentucky fans are too negative, they're being too hard on Pope. Matt Jones is too hard on point. I want to hear from you. I genuinely want to hear your argument as to why not that you hope he wins. We all hope he wins, right, Ryan, correct, not that you hope he wins if you believe it's going to happen. Now, let's open up the lines. Eight fun. You're not gonna get theovon tickets, but eight five nine to two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. I want to hear the case that there's up, that you're excited, et cetera. And if you don't call then I really think like if I want to hear it, because people get upset if you express the opposite, I want to hear it from people, and Shannon and I in part want to see what is the positive side of our fan base feel going in at this point.

00:08:22
Speaker 1: I just want to see if we get any calls after that, because we kind of did this last week and then we got one or two so.

00:08:27
Speaker 4: Well, but I opened it up that week to everybody, and the negative people tend to be the loudest. Yes, So what I'm asking for here is positive as it is now. The question, while they're going about us not being in any of the top twenty fives, is that correct? Do you feel like we're a top twenty five team as situated right now?

00:08:50
Speaker 3: I honestly don't. I think that's probably fair that they're looking out on the outside looking in on the top twenty five pole. I think they still got a chance to get there. But right now, if we're going like right now, at this moment moment, I don't think they are.

00:09:03
Speaker 4: Well, let's break that down. We were not a top twenty five team this year, correct for most of the Yeah, I mean we were ranked early, but once we started playing, we really were not a top twenty five team. If you go by position by position on paper, are we going to be better than we were next year? That's a good point, Diallo, So let's go player by playing Okay, is Diallo better than Aberdeen?

00:09:29
Speaker 3: I'd say so. I'd say you're you're improved yourself at point guard.

00:09:33
Speaker 4: Yes, I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm ready to say.

00:09:37
Speaker 3: That the Diallo slash Wilkins combo a point guard. I think it'll be better than.

00:09:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, but you can't do that because Diallo. You're gonna have to compare one of them. No way, Okay, you can't compare them both to Aberdeen. Then who you're gonna compare it? NOWA yeah, So is Diallo better than Aberdeen?

00:09:56
Speaker 3: I want to say yes.

00:09:57
Speaker 4: Okay, I'm gonna say I hope so. But by the end of the year, Aberdeen was pretty he was really good. I mean, by the end of the year Aberdeen was scoring eighteen a game. Yep, all right, O way versus Wilkins.

00:10:11
Speaker 3: I'd probably say it's closed, but Oway still has the edge there.

00:10:14
Speaker 4: I think you got it. I hope Wilkins ends up being the one. Yes, but I think he got at least initially pick up.

00:10:19
Speaker 3: I think so.

00:10:20
Speaker 4: All right, Cam versus Chandler.

00:10:23
Speaker 3: I think a second year Cam Williams healthy the whole season, Like I said, he was just kind of settling in at that starting spot when he got hurt. I say he'll step that up this year.

00:10:31
Speaker 4: He's that's a better So you think Cam will be a step up for the Chandler. All right, second year Malachi versus first year Malachai.

00:10:37
Speaker 3: Definitely an improvement. You know, we saw the jump he made from great crossing to secs. He'll make a big jump this year from freshman to sophomore.

00:10:43
Speaker 4: In Ji versus whoever you started at the four, whether it's Yellovich or Diabate or Garrison.

00:10:52
Speaker 3: I would say it's an improvement.

00:10:54
Speaker 4: Let's just say it's Yellowvich.

00:10:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, cause I think uh I heard that guy in Color Show. Yes, we were talking about it, and he was really broke it down that the Inji can play. You know, he's a good outside threat, doesn't post up to the basket at all, but he's a shooter four. That's what Pope Wanton is for.

00:11:10
Speaker 4: You to put him ahead of Yo probably, so all right, so you would have in your mind point guard Cam. You would have four positions. I'm not giving you Aberdeen because I think Aberdeen was too good at the Huh. I think second year Malachi is better. I'll go ahead and say in Jie will be better than Yellovich. I'm gonna say that. So I think our two bigs will be better Cam and Chandler. I don't know. I'll say Cam just to be positive, but I can't say our back courts better, even though I think our back court will be good. I think Alex Wilkins is good, but I think Aberdeen, to know what, I think, always going to be a guy that we're just gonna skip over. And I don't think that's a good Now. The bench as of today our bench last year, Yes, with all its problems, you had Diabate, you had Garrison right now, we have Trent Noah and Braidenhaw.

00:12:07
Speaker 3: Right now, Thorn. That's our bench pretty much so.

00:12:10
Speaker 4: But the assumption is we will add to that, yes, with a guy like that Justine Saving As of now, you do believe even what we have now is better than last.

00:12:20
Speaker 3: I think it's better. I just don't think it's a top twenty five team, though, do you.

00:12:24
Speaker 4: That's the thing is is it how much better? And I don't know, Shannon, do you think the roster as it stands now is better than last year?

00:12:32
Speaker 3: No?

00:12:33
Speaker 1: No, I don't. I think you have a hard time finding anybody better than a way consistently scoring double digits every game for you like he did. Aberdeen by the end of the season was playing as good as any guard. And I just don't know. I'm not convinced that these two guys that are bringing in are going to be better than those two, that those are really two talented guards that we just lost.

00:12:54
Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, I'm opening up the phones to this is this is supposed to be for positive people, not theovon tickets, not.

00:13:04
Speaker 3: That phone lines lit up?

00:13:06
Speaker 4: How old is Theovonn? By the way, just out of curiosity, what is his age? Because he's he's my age right or close to mine.

00:13:14
Speaker 3: I know nothing about his comedy. I know he's Diego Pavia's buddy.

00:13:17
Speaker 4: But like, he's not Theovonn. He is forty six, so he's he's Would you have thought that he was that age?

00:13:28
Speaker 1: No, I looks good for the thirties.

00:13:32
Speaker 4: He's forty six years old. I give him credit because he certainly doesn't act forty six years old. His actual name is Theodore Kapitani von kirt Naowsky.

00:13:45
Speaker 1: The third, the third. Yeah, so there's two others before him, Yeah.

00:13:51
Speaker 4: There were two other Theodore Capitani's von Kurt, not Satowski's, and they were like, let's keep it going.

00:13:58
Speaker 3: What's his Vanda.

00:13:59
Speaker 1: Amazing digle pabys mom.

00:14:02
Speaker 3: That's why he became a vany fan, just because he lives there, just because he's he's he was from.

00:14:09
Speaker 4: He was lived in New Orleans growing up.

00:14:13
Speaker 1: Me and Papy are buddies.

00:14:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's but I mean that's also interesting though, right, Channon, Like he and Paby are, but I mean Pobby is in college.

00:14:23
Speaker 1: Right, it's a little strange, Like I don't have too many college kids.

00:14:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I guess when I hung out with Max, I still him. But he was like in his late twenties when he plays is a pab in hes late twenties? Now, No, that's true. I guess Pabby is like twenty four. How did you see by the way the Ravens brought him Pavia for mini camp. Yeah, and somebody tweeted, that's rude of the Ravens to bring him in many camp instead of actual camp.

00:14:47
Speaker 1: That's terrible.

00:14:49
Speaker 4: That's a funny line for a little short quarterback Mini camp. You don't like that.

00:14:55
Speaker 1: Shaded He's undersize, but I think he could do good do.

00:15:00
Speaker 4: You think you'll play You think you'll play one down in the NFL.

00:15:02
Speaker 1: Probably not. He'll probably be in like the Canadian Football League or something fooball.

00:15:06
Speaker 4: Leagues where you should go. I picked team number one.

00:15:08
Speaker 1: I think maybe the UFL for the loisvill King.

00:15:11
Speaker 4: He should play in the Canadian Football League. Wider, wider field is better for him.

00:15:16
Speaker 3: It'd be a superstar.

00:15:17
Speaker 4: It'll be a star there if I'm the Canadian and they can pay more money than the UFL can Yeah, that's what That's what Diego Poppyo did. We'll see if he does. If I'm nine to two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, they made the ruling on the five for five rule. Paris High School is having their coach debate tonight and we will deal with more It's next here on Cansel Welcome Back Turkey Sports Radio. A. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. There's a kid from George Rogers Clark. Yes, Jerome is it Jerome Moos?

00:15:51
Speaker 3: Yes?

00:15:52
Speaker 4: And he plays at Washington State?

00:15:55
Speaker 5: Right?

00:15:55
Speaker 4: How did he get there?

00:15:56
Speaker 3: Started it? Morehead went from GRC to Morehead for two years and went to Washington State last year.

00:16:01
Speaker 4: So he has one year left.

00:16:02
Speaker 3: I think, so one year left?

00:16:03
Speaker 4: Did he play on GRC the title team?

00:16:06
Speaker 3: He was the best player one three years ago.

00:16:09
Speaker 4: So Keith Taylor at the Winchester Sun and a couple other people reported that he has committed to Kentucky, but Kentucky's made no announcement, and I've been told that he kind of has said he'll come, but the Kentucky is asked him to hold off. Do you think that's true.

00:16:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what we heard about McBride. They kind of told him to hold off. So I think maybe they're these guys are maybe they're playing b if they don't get to playing a guys.

00:16:37
Speaker 4: If you were a kid like the kid from Winchester and you committed Shannon and they say hold off, would you? What would you do?

00:16:44
Speaker 1: Be looking elsewhere? See where else I could go? If I could play at Kentucky?

00:16:47
Speaker 4: What if it was like your home state school where you've always wanted to go.

00:16:51
Speaker 1: They don't really want me, though. If you want me, I'm committing to you and you're saying hold on, hold on for one let.

00:16:56
Speaker 4: Me put it in a different way, let's say let's say KSR had a chance to be on ESPN and they tell us we're putting k s R on the ESPN, but first we have to see if this other show we'll do it, and if they don't, it's y'all, we're gonna wait.

00:17:16
Speaker 1: Right Yeah, but I've already got in this case of school like he's you know, like.

00:17:21
Speaker 4: Let's say, let's say an inferior brand would take us, but ESPN's waiting.

00:17:31
Speaker 1: Bird in the hands, worth two in the bush. You got one that's right here, ready to go, right now, you got this one of the toll.

00:17:36
Speaker 4: Yes, if both programs are good. But my guess is with Jerome Morton, he's looking at a school like Washington State or Kentucky.

00:17:43
Speaker 3: Probably like you said, he's from just right down the road. So maybe he's a guy that maybe would wait where Justter McBride's a guy maybe like I'm not gonna wait around, man, I want to find somebody that wants me.

00:17:51
Speaker 1: Matt. What if you had two women that wanted to be with you and one says, well depends on.

00:17:59
Speaker 4: Its on is your dream? Like is your dream woman? Or no? I mean I'm saying okay, So use me. If cal and Stampford both want me for a basketball then I'm just gonna go to the one that's ready to go. Yes, but if Kentucky and Creighton want me, I may wait for Kentucky. Not it's not even courtesy, it's just because that's what I want to do. Right I'd rather be at Kentucky than at Wichita State.

00:18:29
Speaker 3: Who's how long do you wait?

00:18:30
Speaker 4: Though? Well, I mean that's depends on if you think you're gonna lose the Wichita State on and.

00:18:34
Speaker 1: Kentucky sort of wants you, but not all in on you. They sort of want you if this doesn't work out, Yeah, sure we'll take you, but we're.

00:18:41
Speaker 4: Not telling me. If like you had a chance to work for Serious XM as the main rock guy, and your other job was going to be you know, Jackson Wyoming overnight, you're not waiting?

00:18:55
Speaker 1: What can I stay here with you? Guys?

00:18:58
Speaker 4: I'm being serious, though, I mean you're not. You understand my analogy for a kid like that, Kentucky may be by far his best offer. Yeah, I think it is his best offer. I think his other offer would be stay at Washington State or go to like a mid May.

00:19:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, and drunk, grew up in Lexington. He's a Lexington kid, went to middle school here, but he played his high school balled GRC. So this is like, I'm sure his dream school.

00:19:21
Speaker 1: I would say State before I got to another.

00:19:24
Speaker 4: Well, I think then then it wouldn't work for you. I think there's a lot of people who would wait, would wait if it's your dream school, if it's your dream if it's if it's me and it's Kentucky.

00:19:33
Speaker 3: I'm gonna what, even knowing I'm gonna probably be a eight to ninth tenth man CONVENTI I'm still gonna wait now.

00:19:38
Speaker 4: But if I'm a kid that has like Ransick an offer from Florida State too, then I might.

00:19:42
Speaker 3: Go, Yeah, a bigger school.

00:19:44
Speaker 4: Yeah uh, one person writes Matt. Regardless of what you say, your characterisiction. Characterizations of Mark Pope are counterproductive. If you say he's nerdy, awkward, uncool, et cetera. I don't know how you come back from that. If you're if he does well well, I do think he's nerdy, awkward and uncool. But I think, Shannon, I'm nerdy awkward, maybe not awkward, but I'm nerdy and uncool.

00:20:08
Speaker 1: You can still win and be and have those characteristics.

00:20:11
Speaker 4: I don't consider those necessarily negative characteristics. Yep, they might be. But like I'm a door, I know I'm a doork. I embrace my dorkiness.

00:20:24
Speaker 1: I feel like Pope does as well.

00:20:26
Speaker 4: He does. But I don't know. Dorkiness for me works on the radio. Would it work in recruiting. I don't know.

00:20:33
Speaker 3: I think it could work in coaching, but it doesn't work in recruiting, that's the big question.

00:20:37
Speaker 4: No, But like you're right, I do think Pope is nerdy and kind of uncool. I don't know if he's awkward. Maybe a little bit, But that doesn't mean you can't be successful. Of course, not there are I would say, I'm trying to think. I'm sure there are coaches out there that are nerdy, awkward and uncool and it would work. Who would be one?

00:20:57
Speaker 3: Brad Stevens, the first name came to my mind.

00:20:59
Speaker 4: I find him to be I don't know if he's nerdy. I think he's just like a plaint like calm. Who's somebody that's well, like we used to say Tom Crean was nerdy.

00:21:11
Speaker 1: Yes, but I would say in a way is I don't know that he's cool, he's sort of he's cool.

00:21:17
Speaker 4: I don't know that would call him nerdy. I Crean was nerdy, awkward and none cool. But he got Dwayne Wade to come.

00:21:22
Speaker 3: He did very successful up there.

00:21:24
Speaker 4: Took him to a final four. Yep, he had Ola depot and honestly, he's been the best coach Indiana's had in the last thirty years. Sure, so yeah, I mean, I feel like you can still make it work.

00:21:35
Speaker 3: You just got to get to play.

00:21:36
Speaker 4: But I don't think that's an incorrect characterization. And again, I would use those words to describe myself as well.

00:21:44
Speaker 3: To be honest, I think Mark Pope would maybe use those words to describe himself.

00:21:47
Speaker 4: Would I bet he would? All right, So now with that to the side, the positive case for Pope. These are positive piece, Okay, JC lead it off.

00:22:01
Speaker 6: Hey, guys, uh, I'm more optimist.

00:22:05
Speaker 7: I'm not.

00:22:06
Speaker 6: I don't think I'm an fine the sky kind of guy, but more optimistic about the uh, the the lineup we have, the roster we have right now. If you listen to one of the one of your KSR guys, Brandon Ramsey, I don't I know y'all got full time jobs. I'm retired. I listened to him a lot and look at it at Dance Analytics. He really likes our by court uh. And I think we're just, you know, if we can land Stokes or the uh, the kids from Iowa State, you know, I think we're I think that we're that one position away. Of course, they're big stars and they're big iss and I believe the one from Iowa State, bitch, he'll be backed because you know, I appreciate Collin.

00:22:48
Speaker 4: I want you to give me, not the case for being optimistic. Now. If we get Stokes, I'm in. Everybody's everybody's in. But the question is the case for optimism today with the roster we have today, yeah, or just the state of the program in general. We'll take a break. Bary Backsksorry, TJ. Smith personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay.

00:23:11
Speaker 1: Now more Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones Dabbo.

00:23:18
Speaker 4: Now that's a white nerdy, very much awkward and cool coach.

00:23:23
Speaker 3: But he's had success, had great success for a long time.

00:23:26
Speaker 4: The difference is, I don't think Mark Pope is self righteous, which I think Dabo is which is what annoys me about him. I think Mark is not self righteous at all, and that I like that. See, I think Dabo is he's what, he's all those nerdy things, but then he's also like acts like he's better than you, which Mark Pope does not do.

00:23:44
Speaker 3: That, No, he doesn't. It seems like a lot of them up and coming college coaches are kind of nerdy guys, you know, like who Nat Oates kind of nerdy guy, Mark Byington and Vandy's kind of nerdy guy.

00:23:57
Speaker 4: I don't think Natoats is a Mark Byington maybe a little. I think Nate Oates, I mean he's.

00:24:02
Speaker 3: A math teacher before he became a coach.

00:24:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's not what I mean. I mean a personality type. I mean, I I consider Natos actually to be sort of a jerk. I don't think that he's a I mean a jerk that wins. But like Todd Golden and Nate Oates are not awkward, They're just jerks. The same with Danny Hurley. Like I wouldn't call those guys.

00:24:23
Speaker 3: Off the court. I call them kind of nerdy. Golden and Oates both, I think they're kind of.

00:24:28
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, he's Shannon the text from Golden World.

00:24:34
Speaker 3: They were very nerdy.

00:24:35
Speaker 4: But you know, well you have a wide VERTI you see you you think Oates is I mean Oates is like I think.

00:24:45
Speaker 3: Off the court, he's kind of just a nerdy, analytical math teacher.

00:24:50
Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess you and I just have different Definitely, Shane Bamber's a nerd. That's a good one. Yeah, you're right about Jamn Biemer. That's a good all right. So the NCAA announced yesterday no five for five or they're doing five for five, but this year's class is out right, so basically way out Aberdeen as of now out. But remember Aberdeen's argument is not just I want to play a fifth year. His argument is I got hurt my freshman year and only played twelve games, yeah, which the limit is I think eight, And so he's like, look it was four more games. So remember, the people just are assuming the Aberdeen's out. Aberdeen's arguing something different. I don't know if he'll win, but that's what he's arguing. Way though now out as an option. So Kentucky, now the options of getting fifth year guys, at least on paper are out. Now people say, well, they'll go to court. Here's what their argument is going to be the NCAA for years. The thing the NCAA can't do is they can't make arbitrary decisions while they have a monopoly. Okay, courts have said the NCAA has a monopoly on basketball, which is on college basketball, which is true, and so they've said, your decisions have to be rational, they have to be related to a purpose, and they have to be consistent. You follow that a little bit, Shannon, You fall that so the NCAA. Where the NCAA gets in trouble is when they make decisions that affect some guys but not others, but can't explain why. So the hope for the NCAA on this five and five rule is they're going to say five years, no exceptions, all the time. Now it becomes consistent. Yes, their rationality is five years is how long it takes people to get out of school, no exceptions. Five years. That's going to hold up in court in my opinion. Now, the problem they have is with these seniors. The senior is going to argue, now, wait a minute, you've been letting people do this forever. Get a fifth year. The last few years and you're gonna start letting everybody do it next year about us? Why are we the only group that's getting singled out? That's gonna be their argument.

00:27:06
Speaker 3: Will they win?

00:27:07
Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't think it's a terrible argument.

00:27:09
Speaker 3: No, it's not.

00:27:10
Speaker 4: The argument is gonna be looked since COVID, you've given everybody five.

00:27:13
Speaker 3: Years, six and seven years in some cases.

00:27:15
Speaker 4: I mean, here's this is actually a very interesting argument. They're basically like, everyone that's graduating now got five years because of COVID. Starting next year, everyone's getting five years. Why are we the only group that don't get five years? Correct? And Shannon, you can see how that's not consistent and.

00:27:33
Speaker 1: Rational, right, I can see why they would be upset.

00:27:36
Speaker 4: So the court. I could see a court saying, NCA, why just this group?

00:27:42
Speaker 3: Right? Why are you?

00:27:43
Speaker 4: You know? I don't know what their answer is gonna be. And so I think when these seniors file the case, which they will, which they will, I don't think it's a terrible case because now, starting next year, I think the rules will be what they are. I think it's a legitimate question for them to ask if everybody got to do it before us, and everybody gets to do it after us. Why are they the only ones that don't get to do I agree.

00:28:11
Speaker 3: That's why I feel like they've got a really strong case to win it.

00:28:13
Speaker 4: And so we'll see. But they're gonna have to file quick.

00:28:16
Speaker 3: It's got to happen quick.

00:28:18
Speaker 4: And well, it don't have to happen quick, all right, Rose, go ahead, Rose, Hey.

00:28:23
Speaker 7: Guys, I'm coming in hot today with positivity. Obviously you can get a call of it's positive. Okay, First of all, we need to let Punk cook, all right, I get it. Last year was terrible, but I think we had a whole bunch of guys that were not the right fit for the roster. But if we go back to his first season, I didn't know who a Mari Williams was. I didn't know who Andrew Carr was. I didn't I barely knew Lamont Butler except for his final four performance. And we said all season on KSR, you know these guys. He didn't have NBA recruit nobody on the are nobody's gonna be an NBA draft kick. We got one sitting on the bench Boston right now. We got Kobe Braa with his son. I'm just saying what did guy do his job? If all these guys he's getting are going to work with his system, then I am not concerned.

00:29:15
Speaker 4: We were just let me let me just give the countercase. That first year I think was good. I think it was a great start, but it was supposed to be the start of a building block of creating a national championship program. If we have the same year we did then or worse, are we moving in the right direction.

00:29:38
Speaker 7: You know, I'm going to say that when Pope created that team last year, I think he lost his mind. I mean, I think he got excited. We had a good first year, and he just started recruiting anybody that would you know, he had all this money to throw at him, and I just think, I mean, he we all can agree he was not. He was not Suppope we saw the first season. So I have to stay positive, all right.

00:30:04
Speaker 4: I like it roast. I'm gonna have to go to the next person, but I appreciate it. Derek, go ahead, Derek.

00:30:11
Speaker 5: Hey, Matt, longtime listener. I think the main positivity that I have looking forward to as far as his basketball program is we are going to be hiring a new athletic director who will not accept mediocrity.

00:30:24
Speaker 4: Thanks, Well, that's an interesting point. I mean that that is a big wild card in all this is who they hire is athletic director, because you'll learn a lot about where UK is by who they hire, in my opinion, and they may hire somebody who has the exact opinion that that caller said.

00:30:42
Speaker 3: We've seen it a million times. The new athletictor comes in wants to hire his own guy. If things aren't going well on an unper standard, he wants his own guy in that chair.

00:30:51
Speaker 4: Remember positive, we're looking for positives any cause I don't know that that one shit, it was necessarily positivity. No Blue, go ahead, Blue, Hey.

00:31:02
Speaker 8: I am, I'm going to echo what they said. I'm positive in the fact that we got rid of MIT's Bible heart Barnhart, and you know, I think we got to bring in a good a d. I think uh Pope is a great x as and O coach. I don't think he's going to see do anything dirty to hurt the program. He definitely needs a general manager to recruit. So yeah, I'm positive this Tyranne Stokes school can come or go. It doesn't matter to me. Let's play ball and the person.

00:31:33
Speaker 4: You don't want You don't want to be calling You don't want to be calling high school kids who we want to come here. You don't want to be calling fools.

00:31:42
Speaker 8: Well you you may not want to. I think, as a parent of four, I think he's acting like a fool.

00:31:48
Speaker 4: But I think, yeah, I mean, if why is he because he's waving, I mean he's he's using his maximum leverage because he's the number one kid. Do I wish you would pick it?

00:32:00
Speaker 8: Sure?

00:32:01
Speaker 4: But I will remind you a lot of the players that we've loved the most in UK history by May, by April twenty seventh hadn't picked John Wall, hadn't picked, Jamal Murray, hadn't picked. I mean, I'm sure if I sit here and went through them, the twins hadn't decided. I mean, there's a lot of dudes that we've loved that haven't hadn't picked at this point.

00:32:24
Speaker 5: I get it.

00:32:24
Speaker 8: I get it, and it's definitely emotional because we want him here and then we're retired of the Shenanigans looking at all the posts. But again, I just think it's foolish to act that way. That's my own old man personal opinion. It's a new way of doing things. And you're absolutely right. He is grabbing the biggest bag you can get.

00:32:44
Speaker 4: So, yeah, I appreciate the call. You allso have to remember that it used to be Ryan recruits waited till a lot longer. Oh yeah, they here's why they don't do it now, because the portal kids take their spot.

00:32:55
Speaker 3: That's right.

00:32:56
Speaker 4: So kids are committing to ky if it feels like kids are committing to college is earlier, you're correct. But they're doing it because they want to get their spot before the portal kids come and take them all. Tyron Stokes is so good he doesn't need to do that, right.

00:33:09
Speaker 3: He's gonna play wherever he goes.

00:33:10
Speaker 4: He can wait, So Tyron Stokes, the only difference between Tyron Stokes and guys in the past is that guys in the past had to get locked in or ecuse me, guys in the past had spots waiting for now. Guy's got to get locked in or they'll go take a portal kid and you'll lose your spot.

00:33:26
Speaker 3: The high school recruiting season used to be right now.

00:33:29
Speaker 4: April Man used to be the last recruits. Would all remember because we'd watched the McDonald's game in the Jordan's game. You know all, we're gonna get this guy. It's different now, but Stokes is so good he can operate on his own time. He's got that uh word you hear me say all the time. Leverage. If you're checking out the odds at Keenland or at the Derby this week, remember to check on another odd your health. Kentucky Skin Cancer Center can make sure if anything's happening unusual on your skin, they'll check it out. Kentucky Skin Cancercenter dot com two seven eight four to nineteen ninety nine. Lou Holtz nerd.

00:34:26
Speaker 1: Yeah a little bit, yeah, yeah, but it was also probably tough though as a coach, I feel like part of it also like if you're nerdy, you're not seeing as like a tough coach that's true.

00:34:34
Speaker 4: He was kind of both.

00:34:35
Speaker 3: Jim Beheim, Yeah, definite, definite on the nerd scale.

00:34:39
Speaker 4: About Pat Kelsey, he's definitely yeah.

00:34:42
Speaker 3: I don't surprised we didn't. I didn't think about him, absolutely.

00:34:45
Speaker 4: Definitely, But he's done well in the portal and not hasn't coached necessarily.

00:34:49
Speaker 3: They better do well this year, is what they've got.

00:34:51
Speaker 4: They got, yeah, I mean, and you know, they're only ranked fifteenth in the press for all the high Louisville's recruiting class. ESPN has them ranked fifteenth overall.

00:35:00
Speaker 3: I'm surprised. I thought they'd be higher with what they probably.

00:35:01
Speaker 4: You know, I can see it because they spent a lot of money. But like, none of the guys they've brought in were the best player at the school where they were. Yeah.

00:35:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, the big guy Kansas was really really good, but he wasn't their star.

00:35:13
Speaker 4: No, he was good, but he was also like he had the way wait average twelve points a game.

00:35:17
Speaker 3: Like he was a double double machine. I think he's like he's got his great rebounds. Voted best defensive player in the country, I think or something that he was.

00:35:23
Speaker 4: Okay, I didn't know that. Still though, I'm just saying, I mean he I would have thought the way Louisville hyped the class. I was expecting to be like top five, yeah for sure, and their fifteenth in the in the ESPN rankings right now, which I'm sure the Louisville fans do not like. Happy birthday to uh from Middlesborough, Dick Tamer's.

00:35:40
Speaker 3: Birthdays to Dic Tamer, Happy birthday.

00:35:42
Speaker 4: Happy birthday to him. The if I'm nine two twenty two eighty seven, I have a question here for you. Do you somebody rights? Do any of the guys on KSR use or would consider using peptides?

00:35:59
Speaker 5: You have?

00:35:59
Speaker 3: Tell me what peptides are first.

00:36:01
Speaker 4: That's the Is that the thing Shannon? That like ozimpic?

00:36:06
Speaker 3: No?

00:36:06
Speaker 4: Is that not the same as ozimpic?

00:36:08
Speaker 3: Oh, I'm I don't know what peptides are.

00:36:11
Speaker 1: We need to know exactly what a peptide is before we talk about it. It's you mean like for weight loss? Is that what?

00:36:18
Speaker 4: Well, that's what the ozimpic is. Yes, but is ocempic a peptide or all.

00:36:23
Speaker 1: To nemino acid chain that regulates metabolism, appetite in fat storage.

00:36:27
Speaker 4: So yeah, so that's ozimpic? Yeah, yes, would you use ozimpic because you a lot. Everybody's on the ozempic. Now.

00:36:34
Speaker 3: Well, I have such a good looking body right now. I don't need a lot of improvement. Yes, if somebody gave.

00:36:39
Speaker 4: It to me, gave it to me, you wouldn't pay for it.

00:36:42
Speaker 3: Wouldn't pay for it.

00:36:43
Speaker 4: It's expensive, isn't it.

00:36:44
Speaker 3: I believe it's very expensive. Okay, but you you would you would use it if they gave it to me? Yeah? Sure, why not?

00:36:49
Speaker 4: But are you worried at all? Like maybe it's got long term effects?

00:36:53
Speaker 3: You know, I'm getting old, like you don't have very.

00:36:57
Speaker 4: Long term anything.

00:36:58
Speaker 1: That's my motivation here?

00:37:01
Speaker 4: Well so no, But but he's not saying. You're not saying I'm old, so I don't care about how I look. You're saying I'm old, so I'm not worried about long term effects.

00:37:10
Speaker 3: True?

00:37:10
Speaker 4: Yes, okay, what about you, Shannon? Would you use the peptides?

00:37:14
Speaker 1: No, I'd prefer to just do it the natural way, just try to not eat too much and work out. But you know doing that, and I know you're not. But I mean if you told me, like, all right, I can have a six packet, I don't have to work out I would consider it, you know.

00:37:29
Speaker 3: What about you?

00:37:30
Speaker 4: For me, it's I still feel like, I mean, Ozimpic's a little different because I think there've been tested on it. But there are all these people now online that hawk these like peptides from China, And for me, it's like it's have this has this stuff been tested? You know, like everybody got so worried about vaccines, whether it's COVID or others that have been tested or you know, but people will just inject themselves with anything that.

00:37:59
Speaker 3: Seem a little just keep you're coming from overseas and it hasn't been approved.

00:38:01
Speaker 4: So if I felt confident that the thing had been checked like substantially.

00:38:08
Speaker 3: Huh, did it have to be FDA approved?

00:38:12
Speaker 4: Probably for me, yeah, I mean I'm not saying that makes it perfect. Sometimes the FDA approves stuff and then later you learn about long But I certainly wouldn't take one that hadn't been Yes.

00:38:23
Speaker 1: So this is a shot, right, because I don't like give him myself. I wouldn't give myself a shot.

00:38:27
Speaker 4: I think you have to give it in your stomach.

00:38:29
Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm out, he lost me, right, am I?

00:38:31
Speaker 4: Right? Don't you just shoot it in your stomach or is that that's diabete.

00:38:35
Speaker 1: I'd rather run ten miles than do that.

00:38:38
Speaker 4: But isn't I think ozimpic. I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I.

00:38:41
Speaker 3: Think it was.

00:38:42
Speaker 4: Was it once a diabetes treatment because the whole point is it makes you not be hungry?

00:38:48
Speaker 3: I think so?

00:38:50
Speaker 4: And it works. I mean, it does work. I've seen people. I mean, obviously it works.

00:38:54
Speaker 3: It's not cheap, though, I don't think.

00:38:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's usually a rich, overweight people that use it.

00:39:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I mean I if I had a doctor that would tell me it's okay, that I trusted, maybe, But I also am not like in such a hurry to lose weight that I would do it. But if it works for people, I've seen it change people's lives. Yes, but I definitely wouldn't take the ones they sell on TikTok that are for aging and things like. I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't do that because how do you don't know anything about it?

00:39:27
Speaker 3: No, I wouldn't do that. I went with you. If a doctor told me, ye, man, it's it's all right, you're okay, I'd probably would go for it.

00:39:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, Jonathan go.

00:39:37
Speaker 9: Hey Man, first time caller, who I was going to say that, I'm a I'm positive because you know, Pope, I feel like it is not kind of sticking to the norm. I feel like he's move on for players pretty quick that he would probably keep, I feel like, and then also just the coaching staff. I think with Mo Williams, i'd play at the pretty big pickup in my hand for like the bar perspective. But yeah, I'm pretty exciting. Got Mali Camarino. I feel like just we were kind of loaning them last year, he kind of surprises and I feel like second year is gonna be pretty big and I probably got some at least three dudes. I feel like this year, who can just get a bucket.

00:40:11
Speaker 5: So I'm pretty pumped about that. So yeah, I'm pretty I'm pretty. I'm pretty positive. So hopefully everybody else can get.

00:40:16
Speaker 4: There appreciate it. Oh that's good. I think that's a very reasonable argument. One person writes, Matt, I think you would do it if you went to one of those clinics where there are doctors who give it to Yes, if I was gonna do it, like there's a new one here in Lexington that my buddy's part of the game day men's health clinics. Okay, so like that's one I could see, I could see going to and if I felt comfortable. But I can't believe the amount because you'd be talking to a doctor. I can't believe the amount of people though that just buy it.

00:40:45
Speaker 3: Off tto off TikTok. That's a little risky.

00:40:48
Speaker 4: Would you buy anything off TikTok and then inject it in yourself?

00:40:52
Speaker 1: No way, I'd have to be like doctors out of your head or something.

00:40:56
Speaker 4: An arm going out of your head.

00:40:57
Speaker 3: They have those that be become some weird side effect.

00:41:00
Speaker 4: All right, Boyce, you got about thirty seconds go. I don't know.

00:41:05
Speaker 8: I think Marino's gonna have to have a great Yeah, I know what happened to him last year, and uh.

00:41:14
Speaker 4: And Mark Pope got.

00:41:16
Speaker 8: Right, Mark and Mark Pope's got this great on the recruiting this year.

00:41:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I appreciate the call, boys. I think Moreno was the one really pleasant surprise last year. Big jump he made last year. I mean a lot of guys probably last year didn't give you what you want. I mean, if we're being honest, I think O way, Matt expectations, but I was a little disappointed in Garrison. I was disappointed probably in in how Noah played Chandler. I thought he'd be a little better, but he had his moments. Diabata. I probably thought i'd get more of Yellovich. I thought i'd get more of Low got hurt, but I thought obviously i'd get more of him. I mean, really, Aberdeen was probably about what I thought. But Moreno's the one player on the team that I can say was definitively better than I thought. He was going well.

00:42:11
Speaker 3: I thought he was number three on the death chart going into the season, but that's with the big.

00:42:14
Speaker 4: He would be the if you asked me before the season to the end of the season, the highest riser agreed yes would have been him. We'll take a break, come back number two. It's KSI
