Episode 27 - Hive worlds (Yes they are as bad as you think)
On this episode we cover where the vast majority of the citizens of the Imperium live. In fact probably close to 90% of them live in Hive Cities. Are they good places to live? no, in fact might be the worst. Crime? yep. Daemons? yep. Roving bands of raiders and marauders under your feet? also yep. Not to mention corruption, disease, industrial accidents, and corpse starch. So hop in for a fun trip to an imperial hive city.

[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast. [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Forty K. Lorcass with me, John Barsodium, Brad Chester. [SPEAKER_01]: This guy. [SPEAKER_01]: Once again, like and subscribe to the podcast, join our Discord and some of the other communities we have going now, Facebook page, everything. [SPEAKER_00]: You should go to the Patreon. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, also this is a Patreon. [SPEAKER_01]: Who's that one too? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not good at this. [SPEAKER_01]: Our goal again, just for listeners, we want you guys having a reaction with you. [SPEAKER_01]: So these things, it's not just a cast of us telling you our opinions of Laura and then good luck with it. [SPEAKER_01]: The discord especially is a great way to get in contact with Brad and I, we're in there quite a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: We see us discussings up with people all the time. [SPEAKER_01]: If you think we got something wrong, we think we got something right. [SPEAKER_01]: If you have more questions, go in there. [SPEAKER_01]: We could not be more happy to have you all in there. [SPEAKER_01]: I love sprawling conversations too. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, the people will say this, I look at our discord more than I look at about fifty other groups that I'm actually in. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: So the Brad use the key word they're sprawling. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's a good way to bring us into our topic at hand, which is high worlds. [SPEAKER_00]: urban sprawl defying. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so in our last cast, we kind of dove into deeply into what imperial space looks like, how imperial spaces organized, even how some of the imperial spaces governed. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we jumped into a lot of the key worlds, but we had to leave one world off. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's because it's high worlds and high worlds represent the most important, they might be the most important worlds. [SPEAKER_01]: They all of the imperial. [SPEAKER_00]: It's also where everybody lives. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is it. [SPEAKER_01]: So [SPEAKER_01]: Let's dig right in into what high roads are. [SPEAKER_01]: They are probably the second worst place to live in the Imperium outside of an actual invasion. [SPEAKER_00]: And depending on who's invading you, I still might want an invasion. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's actually a good point. [SPEAKER_01]: How say something nice about Tao? [SPEAKER_01]: If I were an imperial world and the Tao were invading, that's the best of my options because I won't lose. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive into what a high this. [SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to explain how big a high world is. [SPEAKER_00]: High world is like a course on. [SPEAKER_00]: But a billion times worse, because hybrids also go miles and miles and miles underground in levels, which like each level is it's almost own ecosystem of things happening. [SPEAKER_00]: So level one could be [SPEAKER_00]: and they get worse to be honest with you, as a lawyer you get. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and so they're called hives because of the way that they people interact with them, but they're really are just spires. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a, it's a very cool tower in the middle and it expands out. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's, it is, there's money coming though. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it's pockets, pockets that go down, down, down. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: But they also go, and so I said, it's course, huh, because it's huge and it goes in, like literally, [SPEAKER_00]: unrealistically high. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, miles up, miles down hundreds of miles wide. [SPEAKER_01]: What's crazy though is the size of the population where we're getting in Necromanda in a bit here. [SPEAKER_01]: Necromanda has a hundred billion people on it. [SPEAKER_01]: For our efforts, the Earth has eight billion and Necromanda is a city. [SPEAKER_01]: So the high protocol have upwards of ten hives on the planet and each hive is ten plus billion people. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're bordering on some of these places made, they won't get to a trillion because that's how the math works. [SPEAKER_01]: But you know, we're getting close to a trillion people on a single planet living in a few. [SPEAKER_00]: And also these places do not produce food. [SPEAKER_01]: No, we'll get to that in a minute. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Brad used to chorus on, I actually was mid guard because I've been playing Final Fantasy. [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like that level where it's just, it's just this giant city where the further up you are, the better, the further down you are is whole. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's nightmarish in a actual nightmarish level. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, this is as bad as it gets barring demonic incursion. [SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes happens. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Generations of people will live inside of the hive and they will live there. [SPEAKER_01]: never even seeing the outside. [SPEAKER_01]: The only chance you really have to leave the hide is to join the Imperial Military. [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the big things is some of these people have never seen outside is an actual outside. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: If you're in one of the lower levels, you've never been to the surface. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll get to the surface a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not missing much. [SPEAKER_01]: So the hive kind of breaks down into four groups. [SPEAKER_01]: You have a little ability, the middle class, the lower class, and then other, other is real bad by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: And really enough that the middle class isn't that much more than the lower cast. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just people that get to [SPEAKER_00]: shit on somebody that's life is also shitty, but shit here the nearest because you're an asshole basically. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: And as we said before, the entire imperium, if you were an imperial planet, you know, three things to need to do. [SPEAKER_01]: One, pay your taxes. [SPEAKER_01]: Two, ship your supplies, three worship the gut and worship the emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: And three is only available if someone says, someone asks, be the other first two are gonna happen all the time. [SPEAKER_01]: The high cities are the quintessential of this situation. [SPEAKER_01]: This is where all of those things happen, non-stop. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, remember, a high planet will have more people in it than multiple systems will. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a core for the imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the people in charge do not not not want [SPEAKER_00]: their shipment of widgets to stop because it'll mean someone will show up and find out why and you are probably doing some terrible shit to stay in power because you have to have your ten to a hundred billion people that are super not happy as we'll get into it about what's going on and you're keeping them in line with probably not the greatest methods no and because you are in [SPEAKER_00]: pretty much dire straits, because the Imperium also doesn't f-around. [SPEAKER_01]: When the high-world stops producing, when the high-world is one percent off, they are sending an inquisitor. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, and he usually goes, hey, top guy, you get killed. [SPEAKER_00]: Next guy, don't let this happen again. [SPEAKER_01]: These are, and that's what makes, and we're going to get into how hellacious this life is going to get. [SPEAKER_00]: The best thing about is they make some of the best stories. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with this. [SPEAKER_01]: This is why we're moving. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, from a setting standpoint. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's super exciting because there's James Taylor's chaotic cold going on. [SPEAKER_00]: There's just regular rebellions. [SPEAKER_00]: There's the regular stores, the drugs, and the lower cities, and there's biker gangs, and there's all these things going on that you can do, hey, what kind of setting would you like inside this? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that's all available. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, hive cities are, and we're going to dig into some of the cool side notes, I think, but the concept of the hive cities, this is what, and you're writing, forty can, you want to write a forty-case story that's not just an invasion, this is where it is. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, the inquisitors are always going to hive cities. [SPEAKER_00]: There's something old even if you didn't know you could just show up and I said in your high world just feel like some shit's probably happening. [SPEAKER_01]: If you were an inquisitor and you were given a quota you would just go to a high city and not your a century of quota out and then go back to your regular. [SPEAKER_00]: I like to hang out. [SPEAKER_01]: I went to the high of city. [SPEAKER_01]: I caught seven hundred cult members. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd thirty five, you know, Zeno's encouraged us, blah, blah, blah. [SPEAKER_01]: So can I go back to doing my regular job now? [SPEAKER_00]: To get something specific, though, it's pretty hard because you have to find it. [SPEAKER_00]: You're like, so all I have to do is weed through these hundred billion people that live here and find this one guy who's doing this. [SPEAKER_01]: All cities that one guy might not even be part of the hundred billion. [SPEAKER_01]: He might be living in the underhives, which spoiler were getting to them in a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: So first off, let's talk about the value of the high of cities for the empire. [SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorite statistics I saw was that he sing a high city in one hour, can now fit a million imperial soldiers with all the weapons, closed munitions food that they need to fight and encourage it. [SPEAKER_01]: One hour. [SPEAKER_01]: This is, these things are absolutely critical. [SPEAKER_01]: And that is not unknown to forces of, well, I was saying, it's, it's, it's lava don't, but it's well aware of this. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: This is also, it's well known to the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: I know that you know that you know that I know. [SPEAKER_00]: So while Abba now knows about this, we know that Abba now knows about this. [SPEAKER_00]: So he's trying to send in infiltrators. [SPEAKER_00]: People destroy shit, start rebellion, screw the system. [SPEAKER_00]: We know he's doing that. [SPEAKER_00]: So we send people in the inquisition to stop that from happening. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's a definite game of spy versus spy going on at all times. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, there's also all the regular shift that's happening. [SPEAKER_00]: That's not anything. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just this place sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's also the normal like rebellions and all that all that kind of crap. [SPEAKER_01]: They're, but not only are they are they key for production. [SPEAKER_01]: They're also key for recruitment. [SPEAKER_01]: So I compare your guard recruit all these projects. [SPEAKER_00]: And they can take. [SPEAKER_00]: Really, however many you want, because it's so overpopulated, does it make it up? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a city has ten billion people in it. [SPEAKER_01]: You go take a million. [SPEAKER_01]: They don't notice. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, okay, cool, we can go fight this war now. [SPEAKER_01]: You've also got space screens like the imperial fist used necramunda as a recruiting world for them. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, mainly because it's also they just grab all the fighters, but yeah, yeah, yeah, these things becoming credible breeding grounds for space marines for imperial guardsmen for really [SPEAKER_01]: Sikers for, you know, for the black fleets. [SPEAKER_00]: The black ships are not your favorite thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the black ships are just doing regular trips to these places for obvious reasons. [SPEAKER_01]: These things because it's not the imperium needs two things that fight a war munitions and people and high for what's given them. [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the best things and one of the terrible things that the high for all does [SPEAKER_00]: is, hey, these produce minor psychors keep all those people together. [SPEAKER_00]: They'll keep producing offspring of minor psychors and we'll keep scooping them up. [SPEAKER_01]: They'll keep scooping them up and feeding the emperor with that, which at some point we're going to do a cast where I tell, we discuss what the emperor does with all these psychors, but that cast is not this one delicious. [SPEAKER_01]: As you might expect, a lot of things to go on in high cities, the Imperium would not be super okay with from an inquisition standpoint, government standpoint, moral standpoint that I'll give two shifts. [SPEAKER_01]: But from those standards, again, though the hives are so critical as long as everything keeps showing up on time, we're gonna let it go. [SPEAKER_00]: Because again, we're at a never ending state of war in the answer to that was where is the war, Brad? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes. [SPEAKER_01]: So let's dive into how a hive world is built, because we realized we never talked about this. [SPEAKER_01]: So like we kind of touched it. [SPEAKER_01]: I guess we maybe did a little bit of something. [SPEAKER_01]: The hives are built on planets whose resources have been used up. [SPEAKER_01]: And by used up Brad, we did come this last one. [SPEAKER_01]: If I used that, we mean literally it's all gone. [SPEAKER_01]: Like the ocean's got pulled up because the spaceships need to have drinking water. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're just going to come to your planet and take all of the water. [SPEAKER_01]: which again, poor GW writing the way gravity works, if you take all the water off a planet, it would actually collapse on itself, but we're gonna skip that and move on with our day. [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, there's little moments of GW writing it under my skin pretty quickly. [SPEAKER_01]: So sometimes, yeah, all the minerals are gone, all the water is gone. [SPEAKER_01]: Some of these build foundries on a planet that just convert the world to the bleak toxic wasteland. [SPEAKER_00]: And I saw space balls that I just wanted to use the vacuum. [SPEAKER_01]: So as you're doing this though, remember, as the imperium is coming through and mining and ripping a plant apart, they have to bring people in because we can't use men of iron. [SPEAKER_01]: Did that once? [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't go great. [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't go great. [SPEAKER_01]: So as a result, this giant populace is built to just strip all the resource out of a planet. [SPEAKER_01]: And eventually you get to that last day where you got the last resource out. [SPEAKER_01]: And all these people are sitting there. [SPEAKER_01]: So what do you do with them? [SPEAKER_01]: You can ship them in another world. [SPEAKER_01]: Or you can start making shit. [SPEAKER_01]: There you go. [SPEAKER_01]: And so they just build factories. [SPEAKER_01]: And the, effectively in the death, and why not have your in death, the world like a life, like a dread not, but sadder. [SPEAKER_01]: The idea is that the Imperium says the world may not be of mineral value to us anymore, but it can be from production. [SPEAKER_01]: So these high planets are horrifying on the outside. [SPEAKER_01]: No one, as we discussed before, people don't see outside. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not a lot to see. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a toxic wasteland, you know. [SPEAKER_00]: All of them are that bad, but a lot of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they end up being that bad again because there's too many people here. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the planets just get wrecked. [SPEAKER_00]: So you really can't even... Even if it was halfway decent, it's a shit show. [SPEAKER_00]: Real soon. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I did actually I did make the count in mid-Guard earlier. [SPEAKER_01]: And when you leave mid-Guard and you're exploring, you actually have like green grass. [SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't happen in high world. [SPEAKER_01]: You leave a high world and it's a madmax toxic wasteland. [SPEAKER_01]: So with that, let's go that that was the outside. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's do the inside. [SPEAKER_01]: So you mean your sweet pod? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so [SPEAKER_01]: If you're living inside of a hive, not a lot of, you know, one bedroom apartments with the, the foyer. [SPEAKER_00]: Big jam as many people as humanly possible. [SPEAKER_00]: It is crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: You're basically sleeping in a sleep pod for a lot of people. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, a lot of people are going to, if you've read about this, you're going to fight back on that, because like they usually send in the stories around [SPEAKER_00]: the gangs and things like that, they make themselves more space because the farther you are away from the exact production of whatever, basically the farther down you go, the more crazy is happening. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because the idea here is that we're going to have you live. [SPEAKER_01]: next to your factory. [SPEAKER_01]: If those people, people who know a lot of the industrial revolution, this was a pretty common, very industrial revolution where you have entire cities, so they're towns, and people would live next to the mind that they all worked in, or the factory that they all worked, and this is a normal way to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: The same is the same way for hives. [SPEAKER_01]: In the hive, whatever part of the hive, your production doing, you live there. [SPEAKER_01]: And Brad's right, you'd have like a sleeping pot, or maybe like like a very small personal pod, you and the family live there, spoiler alert, they never call it out, but there's total child labor the whole way through this. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the second you can do anything. [SPEAKER_00]: As soon as you can do anywhere, you're hooked up. [SPEAKER_00]: And again, they will just modify you. [SPEAKER_00]: Not maybe as bad quickly as they add neck will. [SPEAKER_00]: But most of the time, if your family's supposed to make widget B, you get cybernetics so that you produce widget B better. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: People in goods also have to move around the hive. [SPEAKER_01]: And to other hives, the same planet. [SPEAKER_01]: So there's this incredible network of trains, elevators. [SPEAKER_00]: Because you are literally, there's people that make blanks, like cars. [SPEAKER_00]: The Toledo makes the things they get sent up the Detroit to finish the cars. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is a planetary thing that has to happen. [SPEAKER_00]: John's neighborhood makes widget A, that I need to make widget B, and then we send widget A and B, much bigger together. [SPEAKER_00]: So that can now be the wheel of a tank. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And that doesn't get, that gets set down the line to the next one. [SPEAKER_01]: And I just hope you all can envision like what this is like where you're talking about this hive where there are things coming in and out of the council, they'll think going up out in the outer space because we're having it out with being shipped off world. [SPEAKER_01]: This, when we talk this, this is why I like the term hive for a hive world because it's just busy. [SPEAKER_01]: There's constant things moving going against. [SPEAKER_00]: constantly moving all times, and also in a lot of these places, people trying to stop that from happening and other people trying to stop you. [SPEAKER_01]: There's also, yeah, there's a little bit of conflict of building around it. [SPEAKER_00]: You have to be real cool with, oh, some shit blew up again. [SPEAKER_00]: Fourteen guys got done down right next to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why that would slow you down. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I got nothing. [SPEAKER_01]: I got nowhere to be. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get this let's get your foreman is like, I don't really want to hear anything about that. [SPEAKER_01]: keep building. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of an amazing place, not in a good way. [SPEAKER_01]: But where stuff is just, it's, everything's in flux around you, because it is, it's all about efficiency. [SPEAKER_01]: The raw, because the way a high world works is the raw materials come in and the high world sends them out the other side as a fully finished product. [SPEAKER_01]: They're probably multiple stops in that process. [SPEAKER_01]: So everything just flying all over the place. [SPEAKER_01]: One little issue with this though is, as I kind of went through it, a hive. [SPEAKER_01]: So just numbers for people can follow, because I went and did, it was a Wikipedia search, took like, eight seconds, but still. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, Earth has eight billion people on it, okay? [SPEAKER_01]: Most hives have one T billion people on it. [SPEAKER_01]: However, most hives are barely twice the size of London or New York City. [SPEAKER_01]: And now I will admit when I was doing that math, it made it clear to me that it's quite possible that the writers at GW may not have architectural degrees because that math doesn't actually work. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it does if you go. [SPEAKER_01]: miles and miles down in the ground. [SPEAKER_01]: If you take an average height of a person and you put this many people in an area, it actually doesn't fit. [SPEAKER_01]: But that was something... It'll quit. [SPEAKER_01]: I had an Excel show. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of us are shorter than other people. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you very much. [SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's true. [SPEAKER_01]: Just so you all can understand, what goes through my head is undoing these things. [SPEAKER_01]: All you do notes, and I'm doing work at the same time. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to bounce back and forth. [SPEAKER_01]: I have an Excel sheet up for work, and I just did some basic math. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a world of fantasy, so we can go with that. [SPEAKER_01]: And so as far as how these numbers work out, but we'll skip that. [SPEAKER_01]: As we've discussed though, as all of you are aware, Earth struggles a little bit with feeding its population. [SPEAKER_01]: We have starvation on the planet as a stance. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, let's shrink that space down and multiply the number of people by twenty. [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the planet can't feed these people. [SPEAKER_00]: And the thing is, is that here's one of the biggest things that comes in, is they also send food, which the nobility do not distribute correctly. [SPEAKER_00]: And you also have a lot of the population is unaccounted for it, because these are more people than they are even half of the jobs. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, it's a dark note, but it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: The Imperium only counts the population in a high city of the working population. [SPEAKER_01]: They don't count like there's no one out there with a little like the guy at the door who's clicking the button there that was someone walks by. [SPEAKER_01]: The Imperium actually has no idea how many people live on a high road. [SPEAKER_01]: They show how many people work on a high. [SPEAKER_00]: And they send supplies for that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they fight over that. [SPEAKER_00]: Quite a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Two things that obviously pop up out of this is the first one is waste. [SPEAKER_01]: The next one is food. [SPEAKER_01]: See these are the cover waste. [SPEAKER_01]: So you have to deal with human waste and industrial waste. [SPEAKER_01]: And I will say the Imperium is pretty green. [SPEAKER_01]: They are masters. [SPEAKER_01]: And I've recycling green is people. [SPEAKER_01]: I like how you're the one that's nibbling. [SPEAKER_01]: Hell yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: You're seventy-six. [SPEAKER_01]: So, everything in the Imperium is recycled. [SPEAKER_01]: So, whatever factory, for example, they build the factories. [SPEAKER_01]: If, you know, a material A comes into the factory I'm working on, and I'm converting it into a product, whatever bits that material I don't use, is a factory right next to me that would use that, but whatever they're building. [SPEAKER_01]: The same is true with as each level of the manufacturing goes by, each factory, whatever extra bits that they are left with, they then go to the factory next door to be converted into something else. [SPEAKER_01]: same as true with human recycling. [SPEAKER_01]: So all of the wastewater that comes out has to get recycled back through. [SPEAKER_01]: All of, like, there's no fresh water sources we're pulling from. [SPEAKER_01]: All of the clothing that's someone that people aware, that's the guy that just died next to you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And this gets us to the gross part, which is food. [SPEAKER_01]: So we discussed that there are agro-worlds. [SPEAKER_01]: And the agro-worlds are producing food for the Imperium. [SPEAKER_01]: They can only, but remember, a lot of what they're going to produce is going to get sent to the warships who are on the frontiers. [SPEAKER_01]: Hive worlds have a different way of feeding themselves. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a really cool thing called corpse starch. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's exactly what it sounds like. [SPEAKER_01]: How do I say this correctly? [SPEAKER_00]: They actually mix it together. [SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of weird, actually. [SPEAKER_00]: because we're not cannibals. [SPEAKER_00]: No, but they're literally making protein powder out of it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the best, the easiest thing I can say. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, because they do mix it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not like just ground up dude. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's there's a ground up rat. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying, it's grown up, yes, to be honest with you. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a bug, rat, human, weird protein powder mix that they make. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not like you're just roasting a, you know, put a tan on the barbie. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what you're trying to do is they effectively take all of that together and they make gross ass protein bars effectively. [SPEAKER_01]: It does make sense that these hives millions of people not to mention bugs, rats, whatever passes for rat and the planet are currently on are all dying every single day and just them decaying would kill the entire hive. [SPEAKER_01]: So they're rounded up. [SPEAKER_01]: hourly, effectively and thrown. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, if you're at the back of the chest, if you're at the back of the train and snowpiercer, yes, this is what you're eating. [SPEAKER_00]: This is effectively what they were making. [SPEAKER_01]: And as we've discussed before, the chaos gods don't really care if you're doing something in their honor, they just care that you're doing something that they would like. [SPEAKER_00]: Like are you doing something? [SPEAKER_00]: Is this heinous awful, awfulness? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if Nurgle for this one, it feels like a Nurgle one. [SPEAKER_01]: This is very Nurgle, because he's like, I'll just stop the populist. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, they're still getting food. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is why, and I'm going to touch back this a lot with violence and stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go into this more, but one of the reasons that there's so much fighting is that there is food at the top. [SPEAKER_00]: What was the movie where they lowered the table down in prison? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it was terrible, but yeah, no, it was awesome gross, but the one of the biggest things about that is [SPEAKER_00]: lots of gang activity and stuff like that is I want to chicken wing not a bug person protein bar. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't need ground rat and cockroaches today. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go up there and I'm going to shoot somebody because we did get a shipment from that aggro world. [SPEAKER_00]: Where is it? [SPEAKER_00]: It's being stored in warehouses for people that have more money than me to have. [SPEAKER_00]: I would like to kill. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to do that not eat the left over people. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which I still had a funny moment where I was going through that. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought, what if the jukarian rated, you know, a high world and then found the guys making the corpse starch and just had that moment of like, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when your car go, hey, man, are you guys all right? [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, did you? [SPEAKER_01]: Did we? [SPEAKER_01]: Were we already? [SPEAKER_01]: Did we conquer this? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's I, I'm good? [SPEAKER_01]: Why do you not look like us, but you're doing us stuff? [SPEAKER_01]: You guys have problems, man. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you guys know you can just grow food, right? [SPEAKER_01]: It's an option. [SPEAKER_01]: We used to we growing in the freaking web way. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what you guys are. [SPEAKER_01]: You guys are weird. [SPEAKER_01]: But to Brad's point, this does leave a... I mean, these are talking with billions of people on the edge of a revolution at all times. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's not... [SPEAKER_00]: The edge of revolution would be considered full rebellion revolution, but that's just how high world's work. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's technically in revolution at all times. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just, I think, you know, are we still producing what we need to produce? [SPEAKER_00]: Cool. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, then it's mostly, it's still, it's, we're working under acceptable numbers here. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, that's what the inquisitors are always coming through and looking at this. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, [SPEAKER_01]: Basically, a Nyquistar show set there and say, hey, there's an uprising in a hive. [SPEAKER_01]: It's bread said, yeah, and like that's that's normal. [SPEAKER_01]: The question is basically, is this part of a, are they just upset in which case, whatever, or is there a bigger issue where we have to actually, is this a coordinated, do we have to rising burn the hive down? [SPEAKER_00]: All right, do we bring, are we bringing an order smiley as older senos? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or we just tell the imperial governor to bring in more our bites. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: We need the, the beatings will continue until morale increases. [SPEAKER_00]: But that's where you get into some of the greatest parts in that though, is the stories of who's showing up, are you trying to stop? [SPEAKER_00]: Is this a real thing? [SPEAKER_00]: Also, it gets into some real questionable storytelling because most of these, there's a lot of the bad guys that are just bad guys and taking advantage of bad situations, but also, hey, man, are you gonna kill those dudes because he wanted some chicken? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the answer is, by the way, yes. [SPEAKER_01]: The answer was always, so let's go to the classes and the hives. [SPEAKER_01]: It's both the classes and the hives, but it's also the structure that I think about hives for those following along at home is it goes top to bottom. [SPEAKER_01]: Very simple. [SPEAKER_01]: Top is going to be your nobility, which is a combination of obviously the impiro governor, but also anyone else who kind of carries clout within within the hive would sit up in this era. [SPEAKER_01]: You're probably going to have members of the Ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_01]: You'll have any visiting members, a cumbersome military. [SPEAKER_01]: They're all going to, because they're all going to, because they're all the recruiting world. [SPEAKER_01]: The, the Imperial Guard has, as a base there, the archives have a base there. [SPEAKER_00]: It is layered down. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it is definitely talked about them. [SPEAKER_00]: Because you have these people that are just in charge of making sure things. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's a ton of people that are just, you are the minister of this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's, so they're all the way at the top. [SPEAKER_01]: And so they actually can, in theory, look out the windows. [SPEAKER_01]: As I said before, it's a toxic wasteland. [SPEAKER_00]: So, but you can, you are getting the best food. [SPEAKER_00]: You also just put up a goddamn hollow vid of whatever you want to look at and pretend you're looking at. [SPEAKER_01]: You can do that and you've also got, it's also safe too. [SPEAKER_01]: You're very far away from the common folk. [SPEAKER_01]: So you just get to live your life up in your, you know, it's not only an ivory tower, it's pretty dark metal, but you're up there. [SPEAKER_01]: Either way, you're up there and you're not really being bothered. [SPEAKER_00]: It's, yeah, it's a guilty cage, but it's still. [SPEAKER_01]: not a hive. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't let it live up there. [SPEAKER_01]: Then you have this weird middle level that exists. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not overly well defined, but effective is this is kind of where the middle management of the factories live. [SPEAKER_01]: These people in their purpose is to, well, there's not a glass ceiling. [SPEAKER_00]: There's, you have levels of nobility. [SPEAKER_00]: You have levels of the Ecclesiarchy type thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then you have. [SPEAKER_00]: It is not a glass ceiling. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a metal. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you were the visible representation of the nobility. [SPEAKER_00]: Even though you're not living as nobility, you're not living exactly the way I am. [SPEAKER_01]: But you work for the man. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the problem. [SPEAKER_01]: And also, I can get you. [SPEAKER_01]: So these guys, this middle level, they get a little bit more space. [SPEAKER_01]: They get a little bit better food, which the Brad's point makes them incredible targets for everyone else. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just this weird little kind of spot just above. [SPEAKER_01]: So these people, effectively, they also live next to the factory that they're in charge of. [SPEAKER_01]: They live in a nicer view. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not, they're not on top of the furnace. [SPEAKER_00]: These people also tend to be, well, at least in the story. [SPEAKER_00]: So they tend to be the worst because they want to stay the hell away from the drugs that they have to interact with. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: And so they have their own [SPEAKER_00]: Many gangs themselves, because they have enough pole to get people. [SPEAKER_00]: I can make your life slightly less shitty. [SPEAKER_00]: You need to have guns to make sure that people with guns don't take me. [SPEAKER_01]: These guys are, they're also in position. [SPEAKER_01]: I would, I would argue. [SPEAKER_01]: they are more corrupt than the nobility usually because of that because they've got the thing is the nobility that but we need to send them with imperium set up as it's largely futile so if you're a member of the nobility if you're a member if you're upper member of the guard the ecclesiarchy whatever it is you're good you'll be good your children will be good generation you'll be okay these people are much more in the moment good oh it's my carry yeah you could be gone in a second [SPEAKER_01]: So they tended the much more susceptible to the ways of chaos to, you know, a corrupt. [SPEAKER_01]: These are the first people you go to, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Because they also have the easiest way to disrupt. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they need somebody to put a wrench in the mechanism. [SPEAKER_00]: these guys. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Texas. [SPEAKER_01]: That from there we go to the lower levels, which unfortunately are not the lowest level. [SPEAKER_01]: Get there in a minute. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_01]: The lower levels. [SPEAKER_01]: This is what we discussed with these are workers in fact. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's it's weird though. [SPEAKER_00]: How they send out because they are this. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a honeycomb network, but it's like a spider web almost. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just this intertwined because of the fact that goods need to move planet wide every single day and be gone. [SPEAKER_00]: You were talking about, we can, and our can produce so much shit. [SPEAKER_00]: It only produces that shit because there's high speed railways that have no safety, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no. [SPEAKER_00]: That are zooming by you. [SPEAKER_00]: They effectively have like open subways just like, yeah, man, don't step in front of that train that's moving in, eight hundred miles an hour. [SPEAKER_01]: It might be out your front window. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're front door. [SPEAKER_01]: You have a window. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. [SPEAKER_01]: It might be out your front door. [SPEAKER_01]: So you have to open your door and hope it's not coming. [SPEAKER_00]: But they have people living in and around all of this. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just this interconnected circuitry system basically of [SPEAKER_00]: tunnels and elevators and trains and everything else, but they have the lower levels, wrap all around this, where they all live, because why need somebody that is making here this product, but I also need people that can transport this product, and I need people to fix this thing, and I also need extra people after these people get killed because that's gonna happen. [SPEAKER_01]: So how are we gonna happen? [SPEAKER_01]: We have to have more and more and more. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and your family just lives there. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, everyone lives there. [SPEAKER_01]: That would conclude, as we just said earlier, the official population of the hive. [SPEAKER_01]: So we've now covered the let's not use, well, we're going to let's say a hive has ten billion people. [SPEAKER_01]: What we used to describe was where those ten billion people are. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, we're going to get into where another probably billion people are. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's a big number bottle. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, the people, the population, the under-high, this isn't like the, oh, the under-counted homeless of a city. [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about an entire, another city that just happens to be underneath the city. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like also China also looks like who are also very very hungry and it's called the underhives. [SPEAKER_01]: Now when I read stories of the underhives it's very evident to me that the writers for GW felt the same way about Mad Max and fall out that I felt. [SPEAKER_01]: It started off, they don't have to actually if I was reading a lot more about it. [SPEAKER_01]: The original underhives remind me completely of Mad Max and then as we've gotten [SPEAKER_01]: later into like the like early zeroes. [SPEAKER_01]: It seems to take more of a fallouts swing do it. [SPEAKER_01]: Which I'm laughing because that would line up exactly with releases because Mad Max came out in late seventies thunder dome was like it was at the eighty five and then fall out one would have been like ninety three. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, one of the best part. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to go with those. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember, we're talking under highs. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not talking small tunnels. [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking gigantic under city. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like this could be anywhere between hundreds of yards to miles. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, these cities are like me, fifty miles wide, you know, but it's just the height of it. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, what we get, oh, that's if you have a, I point it again. [SPEAKER_01]: If the, if the high road is fifty miles wide, the underhives may also be fifty miles wide and two miles deep, it is giant. [SPEAKER_01]: And to be fair, there's more space. [SPEAKER_01]: You do get a bit more. [SPEAKER_01]: You get a bit more elbow room. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, I will room as long as you're willing to fight and you take the things that will kill you to the end of the death. [SPEAKER_01]: And so from here, we're going to take a quick departure. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not much of a departure into for those who don't know a game in Forty Kay called Necromanda. [SPEAKER_01]: And fun to share. [SPEAKER_01]: It is an amazingly fun game. [SPEAKER_01]: It can be hard to find you to play with you, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Super fun game. [SPEAKER_01]: So what GW and so the reason we're going to talk about Necramundas at Necramundas is GW's explanation of this world. [SPEAKER_01]: So Necramundas is on the planet Necramundas. [SPEAKER_01]: It is the hive of Necramundas on the planet Necramundas. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just having the largest hives in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's also they said it wasn't unique. [SPEAKER_00]: This is just what happens exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: And it is a really actually extremely fun game, but I do know a lot of the people thanks to our discord. [SPEAKER_01]: Lee with this are hobbyers. [SPEAKER_01]: you need to be looking at cremunda models. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a complete side note here, but I just want to point out if you want to just, if you want to paint some looks cool, they're cremunda. [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to kid bash something that looks way, way more amazing than it is the game. [SPEAKER_00]: Still considered it's a GW model show. [SPEAKER_01]: It's completely legal. [SPEAKER_01]: They do is one of the greatest sources for kid-bashing and proxying I think within the game. [SPEAKER_01]: The vansar are just cool as hell looking. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like they're cow meat you carry, but like the best bits of both. [SPEAKER_01]: So seriously, if we talk about this, go look up Necromanda. [SPEAKER_01]: You may have never played it. [SPEAKER_01]: The rules are actually pretty good. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a very fun game, but the models are really great. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just something I wanted to bring up. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, back to the topic at hand. [SPEAKER_01]: So the underhives are below the production level. [SPEAKER_01]: So the people that live here, they're not producing. [SPEAKER_01]: They're just trying to survive. [SPEAKER_00]: And they are made up primarily. [SPEAKER_00]: The ones that are, I can't say primarily, there's a ton of people that just live here. [SPEAKER_00]: But the things that matter, I guess, are the fact that they just make up gangs. [SPEAKER_00]: They have huge bike or gangs. [SPEAKER_00]: That's why we get into the badmacks thing. [SPEAKER_00]: These are people that are violently trying to survive. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: They are killing, stealing. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, this is part of, high of life is that you have a billion extra people [SPEAKER_00]: in a large percentage of them are armed and getting what they get survived. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Brad said it well or there's effectively X amount of resources available as far as food and there's X plus X times four people. [SPEAKER_01]: So you gotta do two things. [SPEAKER_01]: One kill people and make the resources go further and two make sure you have the resources. [SPEAKER_01]: This creates effectively a lawless place. [SPEAKER_01]: They talk about the art bites. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't go down there unless they're grabbing someone who did something bad in the upper levels. [SPEAKER_01]: The comparison I make here is actually to a movie. [SPEAKER_01]: It's in Portuguese. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you've seen it called City of God. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, watch it. [SPEAKER_00]: Watch because it's one like a bunch of awards, but it's [SPEAKER_01]: It's so depressing. [SPEAKER_00]: It's one watch. [SPEAKER_00]: That's it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's you're feeling too good about yourself. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you ever think like man, life's life's pretty good. [SPEAKER_01]: Or actually, if you're like, life's pretty bad, how bad can it get? [SPEAKER_01]: Watch the account. [SPEAKER_01]: And no, it's kind of a true story. [SPEAKER_00]: But like, it's they don't, they don't go down there and do anything about it unless you are frequently doing something about if you impede the production, then [SPEAKER_01]: People go down and try to go. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, as you'd expect, if someone does some sort of like, explosion, if someone does something to the upper levels, and they need to run away, they're going to run it under high. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's where you're, that's where you're safest. [SPEAKER_01]: So the artifacts will come down there, but they're coming down there just for you. [SPEAKER_01]: They have no interest in dealing with, with the lower levels. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they come down there. [SPEAKER_00]: They come down and force. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, because they have to. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, this is, you're not, again, this is why I got to use the city of God. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a very good reference to this. [SPEAKER_01]: The imperial guard would struggle invading Necromanda. [SPEAKER_01]: Space Marines would succeed. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't get me wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: But these are not gangs who are like, you know, like the movie Warriors where they're, they're armed with baseball bats. [SPEAKER_01]: They have plasma weapons. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is, they have they also steal, remember, they're making armaments. [SPEAKER_00]: They're making guns. [SPEAKER_01]: They're making the weapons of the Imperium, so they have them. [SPEAKER_01]: In fact, they have them and they've jury rigged and they make them better. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they literally go up and they steal the weapons they're making and then go back down. [SPEAKER_01]: So this place is super fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Aside though, from all these war bands, you've also got other people down there who are just fleeing the Imperium. [SPEAKER_01]: So mutants, you know, there's a certain level where you mutate enough that the Inquisite, the Ordozino says, eh, yeah, you're not okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, we get to a certain point where before they do that, you're like, you lift this thing better now. [SPEAKER_01]: So the mutants are down there because they haven't otherwise they just get murdered. [SPEAKER_01]: You've also got troubles. [SPEAKER_00]: You should we should have probably covered this rate reactor up at some point in time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it might just got seven arms. [SPEAKER_01]: Four arms is a problem. [SPEAKER_01]: Three or five, it's like a holy hang grenade. [SPEAKER_01]: Three or five are probably okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Four arms in issue. [SPEAKER_01]: But you've also got a lot of rebels who lived down there because as we said, this is indictment. [SPEAKER_01]: You're living in high. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no upper mobility. [SPEAKER_01]: You're hungry. [SPEAKER_01]: You're eating ground up dead people for food. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember, I also has bugs for hats and protein. [SPEAKER_00]: There enough. [SPEAKER_00]: And I can't even remember what there's an actual mixture. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there is a full ratio. [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want to go that far. [SPEAKER_00]: I nerd it up all the time. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure, Brian. [SPEAKER_00]: I looked it up, damn it. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember exactly what it is, but there's literally a they talk about it. [SPEAKER_01]: As a result though, you've got rebellion is always being formatted down here. [SPEAKER_01]: So you've got just to recap, roving gangs who are just trying to rule the underhives. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got mutants who are quite powerful. [SPEAKER_01]: They're actually part of the gangs. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got rebel groups who are down there who are just, their goal is to plot and attack, to go kill the nobility. [SPEAKER_01]: And then you've got this last group. [SPEAKER_01]: which are probably one of the biggest dangers to the hype for being honest and it's unregulated psychers. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, also partially not their fault because when you find out that your other option is to take a boat ride to death, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They go and hide. [SPEAKER_01]: But as a result, you do have quite a lot of unregulated psychers who are being, let's just say, recruited by certain forces. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's not a great place. [SPEAKER_01]: Chaos cultists in coming. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: So this kind of unsurprisingly, these conditions of the hive lead to quite a lot of corruption, which creates chaos cultists. [SPEAKER_00]: And the weird thing is, is that cascultus on the surface just looked to be a legit rebellion. [SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty easy to get people your cascult. [SPEAKER_00]: If you're like, how is your day? [SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, I worked eighteen hours and then I slid into my pod after eating my dust burger. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, what would you like to do anything but this and they're like? [SPEAKER_00]: I can get you real food and get rid of the people that are doing this to you. [SPEAKER_00]: You're like, all right, I'm in. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what they're regular rebellion. [SPEAKER_01]: But you don't realize when you get to the meeting, everyone's got things carving to their skin, because they're actually there worshiping the siege. [SPEAKER_01]: And now you do too. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: Screw it. [SPEAKER_01]: The last group we have down there, and we haven't covered them yet. [SPEAKER_01]: We will in the future are Jacyler Colts. [SPEAKER_00]: And the thing is, is that you put this in here. [SPEAKER_00]: Jeans dealer coats are wildly insidious because they're more like invasion of the body snatchers. [SPEAKER_00]: Because the jean dealer shows up as one. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And he basically starts grabbing people and they breed into you over generations. [SPEAKER_00]: And you were literally biologically, well, now worship the patriarch. [SPEAKER_00]: as your deity. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we're going to do a lot of stress in the tyrannics, but just like that, they are, these other call is terrifying. [SPEAKER_00]: It is by far the scariest thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And I know about chaos. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the craziest thing because the infiltrate. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the infiltration, I guess. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the long play. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the infiltration quick. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: This is like the literal generational. [SPEAKER_00]: They want to get all the janitors on the higher levels. [SPEAKER_01]: They do, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: It's like I'm going to block us and you're dead right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That being said, though, the under-high is not ignored by the nobility. [SPEAKER_01]: They are very well aware of its existence, and they actually use it for a lot of their own advancements. [SPEAKER_00]: They also fund some of these gangs and stuff because they want certain under hive gangs to be in charge because they let them kind of do what they want as long as they don't stop the flow of the spicy. [SPEAKER_00]: And also they know they don't have enough food. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, not enough food worth them having to share their food. [SPEAKER_00]: So they literally let these people have supplies and stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: If you weed out some of this populist, it'd be great. [SPEAKER_01]: Great. [SPEAKER_01]: They also work as a really good distraction for those lower levels. [SPEAKER_01]: Because remember, these whole places when the edge of revolution, it is in uprising at all times, but people on the lower levels are aware of the underhives. [SPEAKER_01]: And what they don't want to do is, as bad as your job is, [SPEAKER_01]: working in your factory all day, going into your sleeping pod, eating your dust burger. [SPEAKER_01]: It's still, I'm not having to fight for my dust burger to the death every single day. [SPEAKER_01]: So it does kind of help keep the population in line a little bit of like, look, guys, you could rise up and murder all the, all the inability, but you're just going to be in the underhive now. [SPEAKER_01]: Is that really what you want? [SPEAKER_00]: And they also have people to blame. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Like any time that shit goes bad, whatever, why do we need to lock to down? [SPEAKER_00]: Why do we need to have these draconian martial law in place all the time? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, obviously, because these guys don't kill you if I don't do this. [SPEAKER_01]: If you have an industrial accident, you want to tell the Imperium there was an industrial accident and one of your, you know, one of the people you put in charge of factory blew it up. [SPEAKER_01]: No, you blamed the underhive. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what they did. [SPEAKER_01]: The underhive is a massive use of the inability from a PR standpoint. [SPEAKER_01]: It's also works very well for entertainment because, you know, [SPEAKER_01]: Just take some money, build a fighter pit. [SPEAKER_01]: Is anyone surprised they built fighter pits? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of bread and circuses, we have dustburgers and fighter pits. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just, it's wonderful. [SPEAKER_01]: As we said, some of these imperial nobility [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they do a little vacation to a pleasure world. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is literally the people that they recruit by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I know. [SPEAKER_01]: And they were out of pleasure world. [SPEAKER_01]: And it was really fun. [SPEAKER_01]: And now they're back at their stupid hive. [SPEAKER_01]: And I want to go torture some people under hives. [SPEAKER_00]: And the slonesh pit. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of slonesh influence throughout the hives with the nobility. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually overall. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So chaos does really well in hives. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Nurgals just, Nurgals just watching them eat people. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's got to be a way. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, he's just putting pest on. [SPEAKER_00]: It just couldn't be happier. [SPEAKER_00]: You're like, Warren, you're like, weird. [SPEAKER_00]: You put a hundred billion people out of planet. [SPEAKER_00]: And people got sick. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't believe that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He just, corn has the entire underhives to just giggle about slenash to just look at a nobility going. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on. [SPEAKER_00]: Come on. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what I do. [SPEAKER_01]: And then Zeech is just enjoying [SPEAKER_00]: of a whole lot of people. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I just want to move up. [SPEAKER_01]: No problem. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on in. [SPEAKER_01]: These things and that's what makes these high. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's so funny is that they are as much as we talked before about the Emperor's, they're directive of don't fall the chaos and then the Imperium built chaos begins. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's really grounds. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like there's nothing chaos loves more than a high world. [SPEAKER_01]: There is one more piece though of the underhives. [SPEAKER_01]: That's really important. [SPEAKER_01]: And it has to do with stuff we've covered before. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's, the term here is side muscle, but it's, it's hired muscle for the nobility. [SPEAKER_01]: The nobility has an issue. [SPEAKER_01]: It's, they are protected from, to a point from revolution and what have you by the Imperial Guard and the Arbites and what have you. [SPEAKER_01]: But there's no protection from the rest of the nobility. [SPEAKER_01]: Because just stay by from it from a structure standpoint. [SPEAKER_01]: We're a pyramid. [SPEAKER_01]: You're at the top of the pyramid. [SPEAKER_01]: If you have too many other nobles who have too many kids who have too much this in your family, it begins to lose influence. [SPEAKER_01]: You've really got one option. [SPEAKER_01]: And that is go kill that family. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the art bites aren't going to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: The Imperial Guard aren't going to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: The Inquisition you might let trick them into, but you might get yourself killed in the process or your planet blown up. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's not going to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: So what do you want to do? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go higher my own little group of thugs. [SPEAKER_01]: Higher guns. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: And wow, those are the under high work for this. [SPEAKER_01]: They are. [SPEAKER_00]: They also pretty easy to find them. [SPEAKER_00]: They're in fighting pants. [SPEAKER_01]: They're in fighting pants. [SPEAKER_01]: Now the fighting pet, you're a pretty good fighter in the fighting pit. [SPEAKER_01]: Can you go visit this apartment tonight to a clock in the morning and make sure everyone there is dead? [SPEAKER_00]: Just letting you know they have a ton of stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, weirdly enough, I'm not telling you how to bypass every lock and secure a point. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Their code is seven. [SPEAKER_01]: But moving back up from there. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's the bottom. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's now kind of take the hive as a whole and what daily life is like in a hive. [SPEAKER_01]: First and foremost, it sucks. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: All day. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember, you probably have some extra pieces you don't want in your body because it makes you work your widget making machine a better. [SPEAKER_00]: You also almost saw outside once and then you didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: You're eating a dustburger and [SPEAKER_01]: Well, everyone you know is dying all day. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's a chance you might get killed. [SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't get killed, your day still sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: Because all you're in, you are a very, very, very small cog in a very, very large machine. [SPEAKER_01]: And no one cares as long as the machine works. [SPEAKER_01]: The thing I was thinking about is like, what your protection is, like, from danger, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So the art bites, the inquisition, the space marines. [SPEAKER_01]: focus is just the imperium that is the imperium running. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're all pretty ham-fisted in how they would respond. [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, unless you also, unless it's the Santa Matters that show up, if a marine but contingent shows up to fix your problem, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think they're gonna fix it with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're all they're still when you're standard munition from your basic gun is a RPG because that's what a boulder is. [SPEAKER_01]: True. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is. [SPEAKER_00]: It does some collateral damage. [SPEAKER_01]: The analogy that I drew up here was an imperial citizen is being bothered by a protection or like some sort of organized crime and the imperial finds out about it. [SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be one of three things they're going to ignore it because production's not been affected. [SPEAKER_01]: they're going to go in and destroy the entire gang and anything everything around it. [SPEAKER_01]: So which also was you, which also was you, or they're going to actually just go even further in level and entire section of the city because it was bothering, it was interfering with production and we could more reliably blow this whole thing up and rebuild it and get back to production goals. [SPEAKER_01]: Remember, we build really fast and notice how none of them were arrest the criminal and make them stop. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: So has it a burial citizen? [SPEAKER_01]: This sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: So this does lead to a pretty nice thing of, uh, you could just leave, not on a vacation, but you could join the Imperial Guard or the Imperial Navy, or if you're in a fight pit, you could get brought into the space marines. [SPEAKER_01]: The entirety of this world is focusing around, you know, production, it's a shit place to live. [SPEAKER_01]: So when someone says to you, hey, you want to get off the, you want to get off planet? [SPEAKER_01]: The answer is just yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I do. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I love everything about what's going on. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just thinking about how the entirety of the every high world hasn't fallen to gas. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it doesn't make, it doesn't make sense. [SPEAKER_01]: Every high world should just be on this chaos. [SPEAKER_00]: And you have to remember the entire time you're pumped with love, the Emperor, the entire time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, from the Ecclesiac. [SPEAKER_00]: There's just so much propaganda being pumped. [SPEAKER_00]: You're working, twelve to sixty dollars a day. [SPEAKER_00]: And the entire time, it's just [SPEAKER_01]: propaganda pumped through the place in all times. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why this happened, but I now have this vision of like pro emperor rock music like Christian. [SPEAKER_01]: Just being blared. [SPEAKER_01]: It just people singing praises. [SPEAKER_01]: No, it would be more like his hymns. [SPEAKER_01]: It's probably just non-stop. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the music you hear is people singing the praises of the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: Watch some of the stuff on Hammer and Bolter and stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: I have some heads of that stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: I have some of the Imperium, like when they just have literally it blurt out the Emperor and stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: because it just has the flying servitors and stuff, just cruising around. [SPEAKER_01]: But what we'll say is bad is all this is, we're talking about how bad it is. [SPEAKER_01]: Living on a high-world though does have some advantages when compared to the other worlds. [SPEAKER_01]: You're not under threat of xenome incursion, because you're sent for chasing. [SPEAKER_01]: Right, that's true. [SPEAKER_01]: It's, that's probably incursion. [SPEAKER_01]: That's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, [SPEAKER_01]: You know, they don't get rated for shit because it's big. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's the promise your your life sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to spend every day for the rest of your life and it's sucking, but you will live the life until probably a piece of machinery falls on you and kills you, which is still better than slave cult kidnapping you. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, so what call out a win? [SPEAKER_01]: And it's yeah, relatively safe from, you know, [SPEAKER_01]: The imperialism is heavily invested in you, and though you're world not blowing up. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, the thing is is that you have great space defense, so you're probably not getting invaded from there. [SPEAKER_00]: You might die from several other ways because of gangers and explosions and general my life. [SPEAKER_00]: But really enough, I'm not getting enough of vitamin. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm probably just going to die from that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you're living this sixty. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to. [SPEAKER_00]: But you're probably not just going to get [SPEAKER_01]: stolen. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is better. [SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to have random pirates showing up and just like kidnapping your entire world. [SPEAKER_00]: I still think it's pretty terrible. [SPEAKER_00]: I might just go with fight the pirates off. [SPEAKER_01]: I would happily join the Imperial Navy. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like this has this has got to be better. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go get. [SPEAKER_01]: That's who it killed in the foreign world. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I believe the ad mech is it's a fifth. [SPEAKER_01]: That ad mech. [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_01]: Period. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a fifty-an-hours, right? [SPEAKER_01]: It's a fifty-an-hours. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a fifty-an-hours that is your average once deployed. [SPEAKER_01]: It wants to deploy your average life by the fifteen hours. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'd probably take that over work in some of these hives like that. [SPEAKER_01]: I get a full, I get a flash light rifle. [SPEAKER_01]: That's fun. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's just craziness is going on. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's, it's very interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: You have weird, weird opportunities though. [SPEAKER_00]: If you're willing to immediately be a criminal, [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I view this, I mean, there's a lot of these old games like Win Commander Private here. [SPEAKER_01]: It's some ways even actually fall out. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's so much of these types of games where we've all played victims where you're, you can, you start in a place like a high of C, because where you always start. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, fun fancy seven. [SPEAKER_01]: That's where it starts. [SPEAKER_01]: It starts in a high of C, and then it's the adventure of leaving it to then do more with your life. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's an RPG heaven is what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: So very much. [SPEAKER_00]: However, if you don't become the main character, you are probably not leaving a great life. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think the conclusion, I think a hive, hive worlds does it suck? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Is it better than eighty percent of the other options? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about eighty percent. [SPEAKER_00]: I really sucks man. [SPEAKER_00]: It does. [SPEAKER_00]: It has a good way. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what? [SPEAKER_00]: It is not better than eighty percent of the other options. [SPEAKER_00]: You're always your thing, you have it from I am the PC here. [SPEAKER_00]: I am the player character. [SPEAKER_01]: That's true. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what, even you met the agro worlds where it's at, isn't it? [SPEAKER_00]: Aggravil is probably the way to go. [SPEAKER_01]: Depending on the Aggravil, again, again, if you're not making the look and you're actually making like wheat, I mean, fortress road would be kind of cool too. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you get a lot of good views of just armory world. [SPEAKER_01]: You're right. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the one armory world has the less chance of cast incursion. [SPEAKER_00]: You're just, you're right. [SPEAKER_00]: You're in the sweet spot of [SPEAKER_00]: I'm probably not going to get killed by random pirates and stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to go with a road trader. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going with that. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, road traders. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking to worlds now. [SPEAKER_01]: You said, I know, and I'm cheating because you're sick because you were right. [SPEAKER_00]: And that was like, that's again. [SPEAKER_00]: You're the player character. [SPEAKER_01]: But I was right. [SPEAKER_01]: Like now, I'll just change it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's where it's at. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, so with that, that'll kind of conclude this coverage. [SPEAKER_01]: Next week, we're planning, we're going to start covering our mom. [SPEAKER_01]: We wanted to dive back into another individual character. [SPEAKER_01]: And we decided to go with our monks, he just got a bit more depth to his story. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's aware of his name and his existence, but now all you're about to know is backstory as well, or his back stories. [SPEAKER_01]: He's got a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a big name, and he's been doing some stuff just to the beginning of the lore of humans, I guess. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's been around, and he's played an incredibly important role in a lot of the biggest moments, not the least of which is Magnus becoming an even prince. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, someone could Google for me and give me in the comments on Discord. [SPEAKER_00]: How many recalls are too many? [SPEAKER_01]: I think Brad might have eaten twenty. [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, enjoy that. [SPEAKER_01]: This might not be good colors. [SPEAKER_01]: Once again, join our Discord.
