Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:34
Speaker 3: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:36
Speaker 4: Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio. Thursday, February the twentieth. I'm Matt Jones here live at the KS Bar and Grill where it's a snowy Thursday, but you can come out and see us have a little food. Tonight is Trivia, the Matt Jones Trivia Nights. You can come and play with it with your team. And I'm working on the questions. Got a lot to do today. I've gotten very little done, so this afternoon is going to be questioned writing time into Matt Jones Household you can give a shalloon Clark's Puppy Shop full nine A five nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto glass text machine is seven seven to two four five two five four In this sedition sponsored by the T J. Smith Lavas, he called Tj'll make them pay. Cats win yesterday against Vanderbilt. This young man right here was his first game. He went to. Nice good game to see because Kentucky wins by twenty one eighty two sixty one.

00:01:29
Speaker 5: Big night for Mari Williams. Uh.

00:01:32
Speaker 4: First player since Paul Gasol in twenty ten in the NBA, in either college or the NBA to have at least fifteen points in a game, four blocks, not miss a field goal, not miss a free throw, and no turnovers. I don't know who comes up with those with those stats, but he did it. Uh, And Colin Chandler, you're what is it, Johnny Rocker, role player of the game, Johnnie Rocker, role player the game. Came up seven points and looked comfortable. It was a good performance for him too.

00:01:59
Speaker 6: You know.

00:02:00
Speaker 7: Well, I'd like to say I had some inside knowledge that I knew he was going to do that, but I kind of just pulled that one out of my rear and it worked, and it worked.

00:02:05
Speaker 5: A little more things out of your rear. True. I think it's uh. I think it will help the team if we get you know.

00:02:11
Speaker 4: It was one point game at halftime and then kind of one of the better halves of the year for.

00:02:17
Speaker 5: Kentucky the second half, especially defensively.

00:02:20
Speaker 8: Yeah, Mario's perfect game was historically good and Olway had twenty. But my takeaway is, hello, Colin Chandler, if he can do that, you know, most games the most just something he can't even expect it all the time. But if he can continue to do that semi regularly, he just brings an athleticism that the other freshmen don't have. It's just a little different element to the game. So that was my biggest takeaway, favorite moment, and I hope he had a little bit of a breakthrough there.

00:02:46
Speaker 4: I like the second half because a guy called in the postgame show with stats, but basically the city.

00:02:53
Speaker 5: I don't remember the exact numbers, but.

00:02:55
Speaker 4: The overall theme was he played the best guys more, he didn't sub as much in the second half, and I think you saw it in terms of performance. He got a group in there that were rowing just went with it, didn't feel the need to just constantly change for the sake of change. And I thought it really really worked out, worked out well, and you got to see Kentucky.

00:03:17
Speaker 7: I mean we won by twenty points in the second half, held Vanderbilt to only twenty one points in the second half. I mean the defense was really something we hadn't seen much this year, and they really clammed down on Vandy.

00:03:27
Speaker 5: So they get a win.

00:03:29
Speaker 4: Uh, you know, if you have thoughts about the game, eight five, nine, twenty two, eighty seven. But more importantly to me, they're now seven and six, they're in the conference. They're gonna go play Alabama. I don't expect that to go well, but who knows. But I'm not not expecting it. But then I think that you're certainly in the tournament. I ain't gonna lose all the rest of the game and still be in the tournament. I think they they now are set up to get a bye in the SAE tournament if if they can kind of do what they're supposed to do and the fans get a little confidence after the win, Yeah.

00:04:06
Speaker 6: Your resume is strong. You're in.

00:04:08
Speaker 7: You know, we we said they needed to win that game last night, but they've got so many quad one wins they're they're in okay. Now, it's built on what we saw though last night. You're still playing short handed, but it seemed to be playing better because you know, with the Channer playing point O Tega got to stay at the two, Bray got stay you know, a lot of the three.

00:04:23
Speaker 6: The both of those guys played well last night.

00:04:24
Speaker 4: It is clear that for Mark Pope, there seems to be a definite, uh desire to keep Oway at the two.

00:04:32
Speaker 5: I think they think, and you know, when you.

00:04:34
Speaker 4: Go to Pete point guard five, which is what they did last night, you clearly are wanting to keep Oway at the two. And I think that's probably a good decision as long as Perry Chandler or Amari if they're running the point, don't turn the ball over.

00:04:49
Speaker 8: Yeah, oh way, as good as he is not a great ball handler, and he hasn't practiced point guard. I mean, they didn't think they'd have to get down to their fifth option. So Perry, even in June, was running point guard in practice. That's why I think Pope went to him in the last game. That's kind of been his role. Oh wait, I mean there was a game the last game before this one looked like he had pam on his hands. You couldn't even hold onto the basketball. So I just don't know that he'll ever be the option there. Look at you with the pam you paying took breakfast this morning.

00:05:16
Speaker 5: I guess do I use a lot of pam? Yeah?

00:05:19
Speaker 6: No cooking in the kitchen.

00:05:20
Speaker 5: I don't think that's anything I've ever purchased in any form. I know spray well, I mean I know what it is. You spray it and it.

00:05:28
Speaker 8: Like a little nonstick, yeah, little slippery.

00:05:30
Speaker 5: I just I don't think I've ever gotten it.

00:05:32
Speaker 8: But he doesn't look like a comfortable ball handler outside of my breakfast reference.

00:05:36
Speaker 4: There, Andrew Carr became more and more like the car from the beginning of the year. I think I thought we'd been kind of at like fifty percent car. Maybe we got closer to seventy five percent. Tom Pope clearly made a change in the second half and he was like, we are getting the ball inside, because I think six of the first seven plays in the second half started with a post up by either Williams or Carr, and that was clearly a good decision.

00:06:04
Speaker 7: No doubt they went to that to second half because they've taken to a size advantage that they had with a Marian Carr down there. You know, going to the season, Drew and I both thought Carl would maybe our MVP. I think this back injury is really stting back, but you're right, seeing some signs and maybe he's getting closer and closer to being back to full strength.

00:06:20
Speaker 5: Yeah. I was very impressed with how he with how he played.

00:06:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I just I thought, I love the switch to go into the post. I mean, this is that is not what they thought they would be doing, I can guarantee you or in the early year, they didn't think we're gonna be posting teams that way and going one on one in the post.

00:06:38
Speaker 5: But you know what, it worked.

00:06:41
Speaker 4: One of the signs of a coach is you adjust to what your team needs in a given moment, and I think they.

00:06:46
Speaker 8: Were able to do that. Yeah, and still almost got their thirty threes. It was like we either posting up or taking a good three. There was a moment in the second half and I can't even remember what they got out of it. He might have gotten fouled, but Andrew Carr got triple teams, and I thought, if they're triple teaming and Car, that's how we want to play because that leaves open a lot of shooters around the perimeter. So that was a moment, said, I don't remember. I think I got so excited that they even triple team them. I don't even know what happened next. But if he's drawing that that changed the offense, so we get to win.

00:07:13
Speaker 5: Uh. There were some interesting things I think that happened.

00:07:15
Speaker 4: First of all, they had two babies directly behind the bench, almost as like a smack in your face. Not only did you say babies shouldn't go, they decided to put two on the front row.

00:07:27
Speaker 7: I am convinced convinced that was either a plant or AI because I don't think no way that would happen that a couple hours.

00:07:34
Speaker 4: I don't think I've ever seen two babies in the front row. And then of all the games.

00:07:39
Speaker 7: To have it there, I thought it was not only two babies, perfectly well behaved babies, like you know they but the cameras caught them a lot, and every time he's in, they were just kind of just sitting there like they were watching the game, so it had to be aid they.

00:07:54
Speaker 4: Have to pay for the ticket because I didn't see empty seats next to them, correct, So that says to me that maybe, Shannon, there's a if you're rich enough to sit in the front row exception, because I saw I saw people sitting on either side of them, so I kind of wonder if they had a ticket. Drew, I think we should have sent someone down there to make sure those.

00:08:14
Speaker 5: Are pope seats.

00:08:15
Speaker 8: That's usually where leand sets, So I'm gonna be careful that could be a Pope relative.

00:08:19
Speaker 4: I don't want to I want to be in I just want to know what they were going to do the ticket policy.

00:08:24
Speaker 8: Well, I'm all in on they don't need a ticket. That's why Ryan, you acknowledged they were well behaved. Does that change your stance at all?

00:08:30
Speaker 5: Yeah?

00:08:30
Speaker 4: Are you gonna with Mark Pope's presumably his family. Do you want to say they're allowed into the game.

00:08:36
Speaker 7: I say, my general thoughts are, maybe you should not take your babies to the games.

00:08:40
Speaker 6: Get a babysitter, enjoy.

00:08:44
Speaker 5: This guy.

00:08:44
Speaker 4: This guy, He and Billy don't know when to stop, do they just they just keep going, And then they wonder why they have difficulties. They just they they want they will just double down, double down.

00:08:54
Speaker 7: I got a lot of support though on this, this hot team from social media, who well, well.

00:09:00
Speaker 5: There you go.

00:09:00
Speaker 4: If it was on Twitter, that's that we've seen that to be rational discussion.

00:09:04
Speaker 6: I think.

00:09:05
Speaker 7: So, yeah, you know, I'm waiting out for Elon maybe make it a national thing.

00:09:09
Speaker 5: No, he's gonna disagree.

00:09:10
Speaker 4: He lets his children go up his nose in the Oval office, so I don't.

00:09:14
Speaker 8: I don't think he's gonna agree with you. But dude, we need a baby night. Let's go all the way in like encourage bringing babies. Yeah, I won't be here the night we do that. Here I'll be I'll let Brian handle.

00:09:23
Speaker 7: Now, if you UK ends up having like, you know something, they have a baby race at halftime when they get the babies, they line them up at halftime and zee you like this. I think it's funny. But if they end up doing that, then we know that it's just they're just rubbing it in my face.

00:09:35
Speaker 4: So Kentucky gets the victory. You got Alabama on Saturday. Alabama loss last night to Missouri. By the way, Missouri is nine and foreign conference and we're the only ranked team.

00:09:45
Speaker 5: They still have left to play, like really like they have.

00:09:47
Speaker 4: A chance to go to finish like second in the SEC, which is I you know, no offense.

00:09:54
Speaker 5: Listen.

00:09:54
Speaker 4: I love Pope getting all his credit and Kelsey. There's a lot of people that deserve but I to me, Dennis Gates has got to be the coach of the year, right He went eighteen last year in the SEC, and they are.

00:10:06
Speaker 7: With a lot of the same guys. They're nine and four and they ran Alabama last night. I watched that game after they were up twelve nothing in two minutes, just like that, they got guys. They scored one hundred and ten points last night. They are really really good. They're they're you know, don't look now, but yeah, Missouri may be the hottest team in the conference right now.

00:10:24
Speaker 5: So but we play Alabama now.

00:10:26
Speaker 4: They're coming off to double digit losses in a row to Auburn and Missouri. Do you give us any chance Saturday? Let's assume Butler and Robinson don't play.

00:10:38
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I haven't been nearly down as like ninety percent of I did not have one moment sweat the Vandy game. I was very confident Texas and fell a part at the end, but they should have won that one. I just think this is a very good team, even without the injuries. Now Alabama will be favored, and I will pick Alabama to win. But I give Kentucky you probably one out of three, twenty five percent out of four that neighborhood.

00:11:00
Speaker 4: Wow, that's we won out of three. You think we played that game three times we win won?

00:11:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think so.

00:11:06
Speaker 8: Maybe twenty five to thirty percent in that ballpark.

00:11:08
Speaker 5: That's very Uh, that's very optimistic. I like that.

00:11:12
Speaker 8: I just I haven't I know a lot of fans want to jump off. Maybe I'm looking through blue glasses. I haven't been really down at any point. I recognize the roster and I'm impressed by what they've been able to do with all those guys out.

00:11:23
Speaker 5: Would you go one out of three?

00:11:25
Speaker 7: No, I don't know if I can go that high. I was thinking more closer to like fifteen percent, because I think Alabama's going to be red hot mad. They lost to Auburn and then just lost on the road of Missouri. They're going to come in back home.

00:11:36
Speaker 4: I mean, if we were to beat them, I think they fall the fifth in the SEC Alabama Alabama team that almost was right number one this week. I mean, so there's a you know, it would be a huge win if we won.

00:11:47
Speaker 8: No that I wish they had won last night. I think coming off a loss makes it even harder. So maybe one out of four instead about one out of three after losing?

00:11:55
Speaker 6: What do you put them after a low?

00:11:57
Speaker 4: Just because I think at Alabama you have to score at least ninety points.

00:12:02
Speaker 5: You have to.

00:12:03
Speaker 4: There's no way you're not gonna beat Alabama score in less than ninety.

00:12:07
Speaker 5: And I just don't know if you add up our roster, how we get.

00:12:10
Speaker 4: To ninety with the group we had, with the group we had, because I mean I think to get to ninety when we were scoring ninety, we had to have ten to fifteen from from Butler and twenty from Robinson. So you take that out. Where am I getting those other points? That's my only thing?

00:12:23
Speaker 7: And when Alabama was here, got the Kentucky played really well that day. Alabama just a better team that day. They are a better team overall. So yeah, I think we're running into a hornet's nest on Saturday.

00:12:33
Speaker 4: But also I think tomorrow is the epitome of a free game Saturday. If we win, that's great, but if we lose, it won't cost us in the seeding. It won't hurt us in anything like. It's really a free game. And then you end up with a four game stretch to fintash the year at Oklahoma, Auburn at home, LSU at home at Missouri. I think if you go two and two, you're great. If you could somehow go three and one looking at a three seed in the NCAA tournament. So I mean, I I last night was so important, and now that they've won, Ryan, I feel better about it.

00:13:10
Speaker 6: Yeah, Cod was with you, with you?

00:13:11
Speaker 7: I felt like they did you know these last six games to split them, win three, lose three. Okay, you got the one win you should get. Get these other wins, and you're still sitting pretty good.

00:13:18
Speaker 8: No One the one els you coming here, that's the last. It won't knock you out of any tournaments, but that'll be a bad, bad loss.

00:13:25
Speaker 4: I do think Peter Burns should be punished, No, we should award for bringing me.

00:13:30
Speaker 5: Up during the game.

00:13:31
Speaker 4: I think that was you know, you can't bring people up when they don't have a chance.

00:13:35
Speaker 5: Shannon to fight back here's your.

00:13:37
Speaker 3: Chance right now. So if you got something you want to say to Peter.

00:13:40
Speaker 5: But that was a national broadcast.

00:13:42
Speaker 4: So a guy found the picture of me that we've seen before, which is me, and like I think I figured it was the fall of two thousand and seven standing with Rob Goodell and.

00:13:52
Speaker 5: I'm wearing a little uh button. Yeah, it's a little button that says beat pay and beat.

00:13:58
Speaker 3: Band that we had to have beat the Andy buttons that.

00:14:02
Speaker 5: I had to beat Fandy buttons.

00:14:04
Speaker 4: I had to beat Vandy button and I had it on and uh the hair, I mean I was overweight, cherubic, that was what I was described as cherubic. I had a mullet that was not not good on many forms and that and then Peter Burns made fun of it during the thing.

00:14:24
Speaker 6: During the halftime show where We're all one.

00:14:26
Speaker 4: He said, Nebraska is playing as bad as Matt Jones's hair looked ten years ago.

00:14:30
Speaker 5: First of all, Peter, that was fifteen plus years ago, more than fifteen.

00:14:34
Speaker 8: I don't think I knew you then, and I've been with KSR fifteen years.

00:14:37
Speaker 4: It's going clap was sports Mob with Matt Rob days.

00:14:41
Speaker 5: That's how long I would have.

00:14:42
Speaker 8: Said something to you you have said something?

00:14:45
Speaker 7: Yes, okay, Well didn't that look kind of change the course of your career?

00:14:48
Speaker 5: Yeah? We well I'll mention a little bit. What'd you say?

00:14:52
Speaker 3: I have the clip if we need to hear it again.

00:14:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll play the clip and we'll take your calls. A five nine twenty two eighty seven. We're here at the Chaos Bar and Grill.

00:15:00
Speaker 5: Come join us.

00:15:00
Speaker 4: Cats big win over Shannon's Dirty Doors. We'll take a break and bring it back to Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. A F nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. One person rights, Matt, don't you think Kobe Bray is gonna have to still take more shots? Played thirty one minutes, took six shots, Yes, but they were.

00:15:21
Speaker 5: On him like glue.

00:15:22
Speaker 4: I mean, he he, He maybe had one or two he could have taken that he didn't take. But they, I mean they clearly their their game plan was Kobe Bray is not gonna beat us, like we're not gonna lose. So if somebody else does, I mean, they probably didn't think Colin Chandler was gonna do what he did. Probably don't think Amar Williams is gonna score what seventeen and not miss a field goal, But they were not gonna let Kobe bray beat.

00:15:46
Speaker 7: I love the fact that he came out and took the first shot. I mean, you know, he's got to do that. He's gotta be a little selfish and can look for his shot. And I really tried to watch him last night. You know, theyre when he's coming off the screen, he's trying to get open, they're like hanging on him and going on it.

00:15:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, like they're not They do not.

00:16:02
Speaker 4: They would sag off every other player, including al Minor who's three for four, but they were not leaving Kobe Brea.

00:16:08
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:16:09
Speaker 8: Pope mentioned that in a postgame show, either after Texas or the one before that, someone asks, you know, right and Kobe getting open, and he basically said, they are not calling this stuff off the ball. I mean they're holding, they're grabbing, they're doing everything they can to keep him from getting it.

00:16:22
Speaker 4: And yeah, one of the things, again, this is good coaching by Pope. He would when he got the ball on the block to car and Williams and isolate him. He would put Kobe Brea on that side and then he would take everyone else to the off side. So the defender had a choice either go one on one with Williams and car or double down from Brea, but then leave Brea wide open. And they just let him go one on one and then we were able to finish.

00:16:45
Speaker 5: So it worked out.

00:16:46
Speaker 8: And our guy Jacob has a story up Kentucky is ten and oh when Brea has ten points and they're ten and oh when he has three threes. So to the point we keep bringing up no pressure Kobe Braa, but if you come back to score ten.

00:16:57
Speaker 5: Points, you win or lose based on you.

00:16:59
Speaker 4: All right, So this is the clip of Peter Burn's being you know, a jerk last night on the halftime show.

00:17:07
Speaker 5: Go ahead, looking back to SEC at halftime report. All these teams right now are on the bubble.

00:17:12
Speaker 9: SMU looking good, VCU looking good, North Carolina looking good.

00:17:16
Speaker 5: Nebraska right now they're on the bubble. They look worse than.

00:17:19
Speaker 7: Matt Jones's hearing style about ten years ago, seventy or forty said, have you seen that thing?

00:17:24
Speaker 5: It's trending on Twitter right now. I don't think I want to it. It would be a monstrous for all.

00:17:30
Speaker 3: Have you seen that thing? You've seen that's a weave or something.

00:17:34
Speaker 4: Like Patrick Young, Patrick Young, And is that Pat Bradley or what's his name?

00:17:39
Speaker 6: Yeah, Pat Bradley is.

00:17:40
Speaker 5: Sitting there laughing in the background. Patrick Young didn't even know who. I've said nice things about those two guys.

00:17:45
Speaker 3: The one guy goes, I don't think I want to see it.

00:17:46
Speaker 7: I don't think I want to see it. I was watching halftime and I thought I heard it. I thought, didn't you say Matt Jones had to rewind less do again?

00:17:54
Speaker 6: He got you. He gave Peter Burns you.

00:17:56
Speaker 5: That was the one that posted it.

00:17:58
Speaker 4: Now to your point, that was the hair I had when my mom saw me on ESPN and said, if you're gonna be on television, you need to get a haircut.

00:18:08
Speaker 5: And I didn't like this.

00:18:09
Speaker 4: Was as I was walking out of my first ever ESPN appearance. I was so excited to call my mom and tell her, and that was her answer, and I got really frustrated at her. I was like, I was just on ESPN, that's what you're gonna say, and she was like, I'm just trying.

00:18:23
Speaker 6: To help and I'm always gonna be mom.

00:18:26
Speaker 5: She was right, and uh changed everything.

00:18:29
Speaker 6: It took me a while and then did you immediately get it cut after?

00:18:32
Speaker 5: I mean I had some pride. I was gonna keep it for a little while. But it's it's you know, you have you start looking in the mirror and you go.

00:18:39
Speaker 7: That's the look I remember when we first met, when you start coming to the Tubby news conferences way back in the day, hair shirt, tail hanging out, stuff hanging out of your backpack, big floppy coat on.

00:18:50
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:18:50
Speaker 4: Well, you know, we had a person texting text machine and say, how many people can say they look better at forty six then they did it twenty nine?

00:19:01
Speaker 5: True? That is true.

00:19:02
Speaker 4: Yeah, but it also isn't a good testament for twenty nine that that's the way to look at that.

00:19:08
Speaker 3: A lot of people peak too early in life. Some people peak you're still climbing that hill, buddy.

00:19:12
Speaker 5: That's right, that's right. I peaked.

00:19:14
Speaker 4: I did not peak too early. I think that picture was very close. Oh you had sixty five.

00:19:17
Speaker 3: Look out, Yeah, you're gonna be clooney the.

00:19:20
Speaker 5: Hotest sixty five year old uh in the world.

00:19:23
Speaker 4: All right, So am nine twenty two eighty seven?

00:19:26
Speaker 5: How was the crowd last night? It was good.

00:19:30
Speaker 8: It wasn't all the way all the way full. Always looked at the two in zones to see if those get full. It wasn't all the way to the top. But I think there's something about these snow games. People that go, they feel like they earned it. So once they're inside and beat the weather, and you know, a lot of people are getting tickets the other people didn't want getting them on the secondary market. It was a very excited crowd. Just I wouldn't say it's not in the category of some of the others we've had this year, but still very good.

00:19:52
Speaker 4: I had a person trying to climb to the game fall down my.

00:19:55
Speaker 5: Yard and slide.

00:19:57
Speaker 6: Oh no, I heard a.

00:20:00
Speaker 4: I look, and I looked, and there was somebody at the bottom of the hill and I could trace through the snow where they had slid. Because some of these people, by the way, don't cut through my yard. There are people who cut through my yard. And one of them ended up absolutely flying down the hill.

00:20:17
Speaker 7: You know, maybe he should have known not to climb a hill covered with snow and the wet and snow and ice during no you know, when it's fifteen degrees outside.

00:20:24
Speaker 5: Did you see what happened? At the North Carolina game.

00:20:27
Speaker 6: I think that's all this.

00:20:28
Speaker 4: So North Carolina had a snowstorm like leading into the game into like and so you know, you think we don't handle snow well there here, they really don't handle it well there.

00:20:39
Speaker 5: And uh it.

00:20:40
Speaker 4: Was in North Carolina n C State, so I guess a ton of people just weren't gonna go. Plus they've been having bad attendance this year, so they made the decision. They just opened up the building and they said if you can come, if you can walk here, you can come in. They still, by the way, didn't even come close to filling the building. But what they ended up with was a game of pretty much all students. Uh huh yeah, So I mean the court was surrounded by students and then the president got on the mic and said, hey, thank you all very much for coming. Got some news for you. No class tomorrow, and the place just all now. And they had probably their best atmosphere in a decade, beat NC State by thirty.

00:21:22
Speaker 5: Because of the way they we've.

00:21:24
Speaker 7: Talked about Chapel Hill that is like, it's not a good environment for college basketball.

00:21:28
Speaker 6: They need to do something like that.

00:21:30
Speaker 7: They may have stumbled on something where they realized, hey, we can make this a special place to play by putting the students around the court.

00:21:36
Speaker 8: And even though they won big, where it was probably the loudest pop of the night was the no class.

00:21:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, so that was kind If you watch that, that's kind of a cool thing.

00:21:42
Speaker 3: Who's up first, Shit, let's go to David.

00:21:45
Speaker 10: David, go ahead, David, Hey, good morning, Thanks for thinking my call. I loved I had to watch the game last night, but I loved how he seen it work. You can actually hear the crowd a little bit better now. They even had a little segment on the environment, and I think they had Reperina at second, which was frustrating, but I'll take that. I guess that.

00:22:09
Speaker 5: I think was it where we second to Auburn.

00:22:11
Speaker 4: Yes, I think that's fair to be honest, if you're just talking about in game environment.

00:22:16
Speaker 5: Sure.

00:22:17
Speaker 10: I was actually calling in. I've been wanting to call in for a while and and usually can't because we're in school.

00:22:22
Speaker 5: But we got thirty seconds real quick.

00:22:25
Speaker 11: I was just gonna say. Jay Williams, when he was speaking to you, asked if he thought you represented BBN, and you kind of dodged that. I think you should have answered yes, absolutely. How many weeks go by without multiple people calling saying first time, long time? Like this is a show where BBN calls in constantly, and I think you can take heart in the quality of what you guys do that. Yes, I think it is an accurate represented representation of who we are.

00:22:53
Speaker 4: Well, I appreciate the call. I think this show most certainly represents BBN does Matt Jones in particular on some things.

00:23:01
Speaker 5: I think it's true. On other things I probably don't. But the show without question, TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

00:23:10
Speaker 1: He'll make them pay.

00:23:11
Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:15
Speaker 5: Here's Matt Jones underappreciated Hate Junior song.

00:23:18
Speaker 2: Here Shannon Right Daniels been right right, the same thing, even more, underappreciate.

00:23:24
Speaker 5: That's under appreciated, So under appreciate it. I thought it was hate juke.

00:23:27
Speaker 3: You're trying to give it to somebody else.

00:23:29
Speaker 4: So Charlie Daniels, everybody knows devil went down to Georgia. But what other songs does he have?

00:23:34
Speaker 3: Long hair? Country Boy?

00:23:35
Speaker 4: Well, you got this one, which I thought was Hank Williams Junior. So who else, anything else. I mean, if you get a devil with down to Georgia, you.

00:23:43
Speaker 5: Don't really need anything else. That's a legendary song.

00:23:47
Speaker 3: I'm sure there's maybe one other one, but I can't give it.

00:23:49
Speaker 4: One in like the nineties that became a hit, but I can't remember what it is. All right, let's talk about a couple of things here. Hockey tonight. We don't talk a lot of hockey on this show, unlessen I'm saying my Carolina Hurricanes. But tonight maybe the biggest hockey game. And who knows how long for people care in USA and Canada. I'm not sure when's the last time.

00:24:14
Speaker 5: I mean, first of all, are you gonna watch?

00:24:15
Speaker 6: I want to watch at the beginning of it, see if they fight like they did the other day.

00:24:18
Speaker 5: But you don't want to know if we win.

00:24:20
Speaker 4: I mean, this is for the championship of whatever this thing is that we're playing in.

00:24:24
Speaker 7: Yeah, I want to see who won, but I don't think I want to sit there and watch the whole game, whole thing.

00:24:27
Speaker 5: See.

00:24:27
Speaker 4: I bet you it's gonna be a great crowd. I mean it's in Boston, which is a hockey town. The Canada guys seem to be taking this unbelievably seriously, like they're taking this as you know, Trump wants us to be the fifty first state.

00:24:43
Speaker 5: We're gonna show them more better.

00:24:45
Speaker 4: The US is clearly wants to fight, so we started three fights in the last game, so clearly we want to fight.

00:24:51
Speaker 5: Like, I think it's gonna be awesome. Are you gonna watch it?

00:24:53
Speaker 8: I'm absolutely gonna watch. And that's coming from someone who I couldn't tell you the last time I've watched hockey. Yeahbe ever sat down and turn my TV on to watch hockey. But tonight I'll make sure what eight o'clock ABC, I think.

00:25:05
Speaker 5: Eight o'clock ESPN, ESPN, eight o'clock ESPN. I think it's gonna be great. I'm gonna watch it. Go Usa.

00:25:11
Speaker 4: Uh you think we boo the Canadian national anthure?

00:25:16
Speaker 7: I don't be boo the anthem, but boo them hockey fans are a little different, so I'll bet they do.

00:25:23
Speaker 8: I'll be booming from my couch.

00:25:24
Speaker 5: I think you boo, you boo the anthem? I mean they booed like it's.

00:25:29
Speaker 3: Get it back to them, give it back.

00:25:30
Speaker 4: I mean, it's fun, it's it's it's like sports, hate is not the same. Like if if they were burying a Canadian soldier and you booed it, then you'd be awful. But it's a sporting event, and it is. It's like wrestling, it's a sporting event. When the mount he came out with this Canadian flag, you boo, that doesn't mean you hate Canada.

00:25:51
Speaker 5: So I think it's all right, especially since they booed first.

00:25:54
Speaker 8: You know, if we were the first to boom, maybe there's a debate, but we owe them a boo. I didn't even put syrup on my pancakes this morning, all out on Canada.

00:26:02
Speaker 11: Up.

00:26:02
Speaker 5: I'm not getting rid of srrup.

00:26:03
Speaker 4: I think we can have whatever wars with maple stuff. It is really good. We're not We're not getting rid of syrup. But yeah, I'm I'm watching. I think it's gonna be exciting. It's been good.

00:26:14
Speaker 7: For the sport because when else do we, uh, the country kind of pay attention to hockey.

00:26:18
Speaker 4: Not very often, very rarely does the whole country care about uh, like they're gonna care tonight. So it's the four nations face off championship, which doesn't seem like a real thing.

00:26:30
Speaker 5: Uh, but we're gonna do it. Now.

00:26:31
Speaker 4: Let me give you the schedule in UK sports coming up the next four days. There's something every night. Okay, So tonight UK women play Missouri at seven point thirty. This is the last game against an unranked team Kentucky plays. They finished with Tennessee LSU in South Carolina.

00:26:49
Speaker 6: That's tough.

00:26:50
Speaker 5: So they finished with quite a run. So they're gonna play Missouri.

00:26:53
Speaker 4: Then Friday night, LSU women's gymnastics comes to Lexington. The return of Livy done to Lexington at UH at Historic Memorial Colisee.

00:27:04
Speaker 7: Last time she was here, they had to have security and the line was out the door to get into that event.

00:27:08
Speaker 4: I would assume, I mean, this is that was a rup. I would assume it's gonna be even more here this time. Right, since it's at Memorial? Does she still she still does it?

00:27:16
Speaker 5: Right? Does she still? Yeah? She's still she's still in it? Yeah?

00:27:20
Speaker 8: Okay, I mean I'm not sitting down and watching LSU's matches, but I'm pretty pretty.

00:27:23
Speaker 5: Sure you yeah.

00:27:24
Speaker 4: And then Saturday, of course we play Alabama and basketball. Then Sunday Kentucky plays uh.

00:27:30
Speaker 5: Is it LSU? Who do we play Sunday? In basketball? L s U.

00:27:34
Speaker 6: I think the l s U is the first of the three biggies.

00:27:36
Speaker 5: Sunday is l s U. Yeah, here in Lexington.

00:27:39
Speaker 4: So in Lexington you've got two r We've got the road game against Missouri women. We got Livy Dunn tomorrow and LSU gymnastics and on our team Alabama Saturday, and LSU basketball with Kim Bulky and whatever she decides to wear on Sunday, And if.

00:27:55
Speaker 8: You want to fill in the spots at home, Baseball is away at Belmont and softball is also away, but you can watch those two on SEC Network.

00:28:03
Speaker 4: So a lot of stuff we're gonna have, just so you know, the trivia to night at the bar. We will have both the hockey and the women's basketball game on as well. And then for those of you going to either the gymnastics or the women's basketball this weekend, we'll have we'll be open here before and after. I would suggest to you parking at Memorial has become absolutely impossible.

00:28:24
Speaker 5: I mean like not just impossible, uber impossible. Yeah, just parking our lot.

00:28:30
Speaker 4: I'm just telling you, like it's a walk, but it's gonna be better. You try to park somewhere else. You're just gonna be walking just as far through neighborhoods.

00:28:36
Speaker 7: Yeah, after a game, you look, there are people walking blocks and blocks and blocks to get to the car because there is no.

00:28:40
Speaker 4: Part, there's no you might as well just park here. I mean, I honestly, it's as easy as anything else.

00:28:45
Speaker 5: Who's up next, Jordan, Jordan?

00:28:47
Speaker 12: Go ahead, Jordan, Hey man, I just wanted to get your thoughts on the roster maybe that we're looking at next year. So as far as like, I'm thinking probably a Kayden Lewis and Jasper is gonna be our starting guards. But what do you think the chance is always back? And then also do you think that our best bet is probably to go for two transfers As far as our bigs.

00:29:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, we're not. I would bet you a lot of money. Our starting guards are not too freshmen. I'm just you know, I think Jasper will start. I'd be very surprised if Kayden Lewis starts. The way Mark Pope's system is and how hard it is to run. We're not starting too freshmen in the back court, so you know, I I don't know what they'll do. If Oway comes back. I'm certain he's.

00:29:33
Speaker 6: Starting right, and if Kirk comes back.

00:29:38
Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't know if he'll start though.

00:29:41
Speaker 4: I mean, I maybe maybe, but I would be I could see Jasper and Oways starting appreciate the call if we get oh way back.

00:29:52
Speaker 5: Do you think Garrison is back?

00:29:54
Speaker 8: I actually wrote a little bit about this on the board last night. I don't think even though he has potential to make a big ump and can be the player of Pope wants him to be, I think it would be a little too risky to go.

00:30:04
Speaker 5: In with just him and Marino.

00:30:06
Speaker 8: I don't think, because if he doesn't make a jump, then I think you're in trouble.

00:30:10
Speaker 5: He's been disappointing in my opinion. I think they have to go and get a big and a point guard for I.

00:30:15
Speaker 4: Don't think he's improved a lot during the year, and I think the biggest drop offs this team happens is when a Mari's out in Garrison's which is unfortunate, but uh, I think that he I think that's you know, I think that's I think it's just true. I think that the biggest drop off that takes place for our team is Amri and Garrison out.

00:30:35
Speaker 5: Garrison.

00:30:36
Speaker 7: I think Garrison comes back next year, and he's a big player. But I think Drew's right. I think they go get another big in the transfer portal, a big, you know, fifth year guy that can come in and maybe push people around a little bit, because Malachai and Brandon's not that kind of guy.

00:30:47
Speaker 4: There's some reports by the way that Nate Amitt that we may now have the largest uh nil offer, and so maybe you can end up with him if you have four freshmen.

00:30:57
Speaker 5: Maybe Pope's gonna end up playing more freshmen than we think. And then we don't know.

00:31:01
Speaker 4: I assume Noah and Perry will be back. I kind of thought Chandler wouldn't, but then after last night, maybe he will.

00:31:07
Speaker 5: I don't know.

00:31:08
Speaker 8: Yeah, those three, I mean, you think the Kentucky boys would want to stay here. Who knows about Chandler, But I still think he has to go out and get a guard with experience that can tell a little defense.

00:31:16
Speaker 5: Definitely.

00:31:17
Speaker 8: I just I know we all like Kerr. I don't see a world. I don't know where you put Kerr. I don't know where he would go.

00:31:22
Speaker 5: I don't either. I don't expect him on the team next year. I'll just say that, you know what, I'm it's interesting you say that. I don't either.

00:31:30
Speaker 8: He's also a guy who has transferred three times since you've had an il. He could probably go get a starting role somewhere.

00:31:36
Speaker 5: I was told to watch a former coach of ours with Kerr.

00:31:40
Speaker 6: Really yeah, that Joel Justice.

00:31:44
Speaker 5: Just I was told to watch the guy up in New York City.

00:31:48
Speaker 7: That's great because you know Popa said many times he's tried to get Kerr, like three times and finally got him. I think I think he'd like I don't know. I think he'd like to hand it over to him next year.

00:31:57
Speaker 8: But you need defense. Kurr is good with someone that can go like a Lamont, and they don't have a Lamont with the freshman.

00:32:02
Speaker 5: Watch just watch the Johnnys.

00:32:04
Speaker 6: Watch the Johnny, Watch all the Johnnies.

00:32:07
Speaker 5: What'd you think of what other former coach of VARs in New York? Did you think?

00:32:11
Speaker 6: I didn't hear New York. I thought you're talking about cal Perry.

00:32:14
Speaker 5: She think I was talking about like the coach at Fairfield or something.

00:32:16
Speaker 6: Why not cal Perry would not want Kirk.

00:32:18
Speaker 5: No cal party we know. By the way, did you see what happened last well with z last night.

00:32:23
Speaker 6: Yeah, I did.

00:32:24
Speaker 5: What happens?

00:32:25
Speaker 6: Oh for ten he hits any of those, they might win the game.

00:32:28
Speaker 4: Let's let's hold on because I got to talk about there was a cow freaking out moment on Z that was it took my memory back the Richmond Roade Vet Clinic. I'm finished with the other one. I'm drinking my baby goodbye. That's right, this is the one. The I think he put this out. Maybe he put out in seventies too, But there was a version in the nineties, and I remember that nineties country.

00:33:36
Speaker 5: You know that's my thing, dude.

00:33:38
Speaker 7: I never doubt you when you say and you come up with the most obscure artist of a song I've ever heard of.

00:33:44
Speaker 4: And it's so terrible now and I loved it there af I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, so real quick. Cal had Big Z. He went oh for ten from the field last night, oh for nine from threes. My man missed nine threes, including he took two shots at the end. They were down three, he took the shot to time, missed it. Then they were down six. He took a three and air bawled it.

00:34:08
Speaker 5: Uh.

00:34:08
Speaker 4: Cal lost his mind at Big Z at one point when he didn't box out on a rebound. I mean, Cal called time out. I thought he was gonna explode. It was not Big Z's finest moment last night.

00:34:22
Speaker 8: And he's been so good for them lately. I think going into that game, he was like eleven for seventeen and in the three games before it, and he just kept missing after miss after miss, and I got admit. I watched Cayl's press conference. I haven't done that much this year. Just to hear if he'd say, I don't need you to make them all, you just can't miss them all. I thought it was coming, but he left me hanging there.

00:34:42
Speaker 5: I had one hundred.

00:34:43
Speaker 6: Dollars bet riding on it.

00:34:44
Speaker 5: There. They almost won at Auburn. They lost. That won't hurt him, but they got a couple.

00:34:48
Speaker 4: They got a decently easy schedule coming up, but they're gonna probably have to win like three of the five games to uh to get in. Shannon, I just saw that Delta all right, So this is an interesting question. Delta Airline is offering every person that was on that flight that flipped over. They're offering them thirty thousand dollars, no questions asked. They don't even have to wave their rights to other lawsuits, which really surprises me. I mean, that's it's kind of an like people are People are crushing Delta online saying they're offering them a measly thirty thousand dollars if they're really not making them wave their right to other claims. I actually think it's kind of a nice thing to do, as crazy as that sounds, because if you can, by the way, I don't think lawsuits.

00:35:38
Speaker 5: Against I don't think it'll work for reasons that are beyond the.

00:35:42
Speaker 4: But just off shin, I actually think offer the thirty thousand dollars, if I'm correct that it's no strings attached, is not a bad thing.

00:35:49
Speaker 5: Not bad.

00:35:50
Speaker 2: It's kind of a please don't sue us. Here's some money, and take this and behind you can still sue them, right, But I think that's in their mind, like if we give them thirty grand, they'll be less likely to sue us because of that.

00:36:02
Speaker 3: So I've assured those storys right.

00:36:05
Speaker 4: I don't think they'll win the lawsuits for again, a variety of reasons that are too long for this this show. But I actually see these headlines like, oh, Delta's meager thirty thousand. I mean, think about there were a hundred and ninety people on the flight, right, so that's gonna be three million, what six million dollars that they're gonna end up paying. I know that's not a ton of money, but they don't have to give them anything, so I don't.

00:36:32
Speaker 7: Know, And why wouldn't you go ahead and take it if you can still sue later. The people are some people that I can in the hospital. They got hurt, seriously, hurt. I'm sure that's a different story.

00:36:41
Speaker 4: Well, now they might be able to suit people who have actual damages. They actually might have a claim. I think it's gonna be really hard for people that were just scared. I think that's just gonna be a hard lawsuit. But I but the people in the hospital that might get a little different.

00:36:57
Speaker 5: We go ahead.

00:36:57
Speaker 8: I'm gonna need a little money from my lawsuit for throwing phone down the run way and breaking his nose as we're getting off.

00:37:02
Speaker 5: The plane, so that that will cost me a little bit, Drew.

00:37:05
Speaker 4: Not one person in this bar last night was I Billy. I mean people just kep coming up to me going I would punch Billy right in his face, like Billy had made me the most unpopular take of all time yesterday.

00:37:18
Speaker 5: So would my.

00:37:18
Speaker 8: Thirty thousand give me out of jail and cover those legal fees too, because I'm need a lot of money for that also, I have a lot going on in that situation.

00:37:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, Billy Shitton is Billy getting a little I heard him barking at you today.

00:37:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, Like what's happening with him?

00:37:32
Speaker 2: I mean I break maybe? So I asked him a simple question. I said, how much money do you think you would need to have in your bank account to where you could just retire and go on vacation the rest of your life?

00:37:42
Speaker 3: You go, And his answer was, well, you know, I'm a lot younger than you.

00:37:45
Speaker 2: You're a lot closer to social Security than I am. You'll be dead before me.

00:37:49
Speaker 3: I'm going. Good grief, dude. That wasn't the question.

00:37:51
Speaker 5: Wow, that seems like necessary.

00:37:53
Speaker 3: Yeah right there, Okay, you're killing me off already, damn.

00:37:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, Okay. It's a good question though. I like that topic. How much money?

00:38:00
Speaker 4: If I offered you a certain amount of money to never do anything again, what would that money be? You can't ever work again. You just have to live off what I give you for the rest of your life.

00:38:10
Speaker 5: What would you take?

00:38:11
Speaker 6: I mean a million sounds good.

00:38:13
Speaker 3: But a million is not what it used to be.

00:38:15
Speaker 7: Man, I'm fifty eight years old, ily got you know, twenty years left A maion probably do me pretty good.

00:38:20
Speaker 5: I think you're gonna die in twenty years.

00:38:22
Speaker 6: I mean that's probably average.

00:38:23
Speaker 4: How much do you think I like that guy right there with Yeah, it probably is.

00:38:27
Speaker 5: That was like that was a little harsh.

00:38:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, But I mean, all right, let's say you live twenty years, divide twenty five million.

00:38:35
Speaker 6: Oh, I can't do long math.

00:38:36
Speaker 5: Long math. Yeah, that's not a phrase. Long math is not a thing.

00:38:44
Speaker 6: Long division, long math.

00:38:45
Speaker 5: It's fifty thousand a year.

00:38:47
Speaker 4: Now, of course you could invest in all that, so I mean there's nothing but like fifty.

00:38:50
Speaker 5: Thousand a year.

00:38:51
Speaker 6: I can live on that easy.

00:38:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, send us side of college easy.

00:38:56
Speaker 4: And by the way, fifty in twenty years is not gonna be what it is today if you.

00:39:00
Speaker 6: Give me a million, though, I'm hanging it up like I'm good.

00:39:02
Speaker 5: I'm hanging it up.

00:39:03
Speaker 6: I'm retiring.

00:39:04
Speaker 5: Just done your.

00:39:05
Speaker 6: Biot, he's hopping out. Yeah, interesting, Well, well but you what did your about?

00:39:11
Speaker 5: More than that?

00:39:13
Speaker 4: But I'm also I'm twelve years younger than you are and might want a child or a person in my life at some point, a woman, So you know, it's also.

00:39:25
Speaker 3: Not helping himself.

00:39:26
Speaker 2: When it comes to negotiating his salary, he says he's going fifty grand.

00:39:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's right. Who's up next, Levi? Levi, go ahead, Levi.

00:39:39
Speaker 10: Hey, Matt, I know you touched on it last night, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts about Amari Williams on the SEC NOW postgame.

00:39:48
Speaker 5: Oh that was great. Yeah, I'm glad you brought that out.

00:39:50
Speaker 4: So Amari Williams, uh, you know that he doesn't say a lot, but I'm really I think it's very cool that he went on the post game with the SEC netw and he brought up the flooding in eastern Kentucky. I mean he's British, right, so like he his connection here is not the strongest. He just got here a few months ago. But to have the forethought to do that to talk about you know, Heather from Pikeville called the show last night who in her house is flooded? And Daryl from Pikeville that calls that you have heard from many years his house is flooded. I mean, we have a lot of people we know, and I thought Amari bringing that up Drew was just a really classy thing for a young man to think about in that scenario.

00:40:32
Speaker 8: Definitely, he just had one of his best games the year. I'm sure basketball is really on his mind at that point, but he still took the time to mention that. You know, I'm sure he's been to Eastern Kentucky a couple times. If anyone on the team might feel the least connection being from Nottingham, England. So it's very cool of him to say that, and just shows that the team really is thinking and really cares about this state.

00:40:51
Speaker 7: You know, he's on a heater, he got the triple double, hit a three pointer, had the perfect game last night. And for him to step up in that platform and recogniz what's going on in our state. For somebody that does you know, he's not from here, as you guys said, it hasn't been here very long, I think it speaks very very highly of his character.

00:41:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, I did too. I'm glad you brought that up, sir LEVI I appreciate it.

00:41:10
Speaker 3: Who's up next, Let's go to Sean.

00:41:13
Speaker 5: Sean, go ahead, Sean.

00:41:15
Speaker 9: Hey, Matt, uh, glad to see you got some Tony Randall aspirations about having children late in life.

00:41:23
Speaker 4: Uh yeah, I'm not that late in life for you know, come on, I'm that's not like I'm Robert de Niro having a kid at eighty three. Like I'm still I'm still it's still perking. I mean, we can still do.

00:41:38
Speaker 5: I don't know, I.

00:41:41
Speaker 4: Mean, you don't need to know about your parent might Go ahead, it's.

00:41:45
Speaker 5: Just all right.

00:41:46
Speaker 9: So when Pope first took the job, there was some talk about, you know, we might get to see some of that Patino era style defense. My question is, do you think with his offensive style that it's going to be hard to find players that plays his offensive style and still be able to get that Yeah.

00:42:06
Speaker 5: Maybe, I mean maybe, but it depends. I mean, I appreciate the call.

00:42:10
Speaker 4: So like, if he gets elite athletes Drew, then he can get elite athletes to play offense and defense like Patino did. But let's go back to the early Patino teams. They weren't good defensively. We gave up huge amounts of points. We just had to score a lot of points. When he gets the athletes, I think he'll have guys who can do both.

00:42:27
Speaker 8: Yeah, And I think that's why he's got to get a good guard in the portal and another big guy that can defend, because defense needs to be a priority.

00:42:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, we'll take a break, come back. I re number two. It's kso
