00:01:02

00:01:06
Speaker 4: He'll make them pay you guys, I hope for listening on streaming or on your stations that have the pre show. For the rest of you, you might be hearing this from like ten thirty to eleven thirty on the repeat version of the show, depending on where you are. But we are excited this morning, Kats with an early tip off in a big game.

00:01:26
Speaker 5: Ryan.

00:01:27
Speaker 4: We spent all day watching games. Yesterday, we spent all day talking brackets. We just looked at the status of all of our brackets here right now, and now it's time for Kentucky to actually play.

00:01:40
Speaker 5: Well.

00:01:40
Speaker 6: When I woke up this morning, went got in a shower, and that kind of hit me like, wait a minute, this is it. This starts for us right now. We've been you said, watching everybody else play. Now it's time to put our uniform on and go out and play.

00:01:50
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:01:51
Speaker 4: By the time you get home from work today for those of you that maybe are either on your commute or just got in, unless you're skipping work to watch.

00:01:59
Speaker 5: The game, which you should be.

00:02:00
Speaker 6: Yeah, w why not?

00:02:01
Speaker 4: I mean, I can't imagine what you're doing this afternoon that it's better. But unless you're doing that, when you get in your car to go home today, Kentucky.

00:02:11
Speaker 5: Will either be in the round of thirty two or the season will be over.

00:02:14
Speaker 4: Like we're in that. We're in that mode and it's exciting. Yesterday we spent we spent most of the day at the arena. Ryan and I got there right after UK finished practicing because we were doing the show. But then we watched I guess some of Iowa State, Tennessee State.

00:02:34
Speaker 5: Purdue Queens, all those schools.

00:02:37
Speaker 4: We were right there and we, you know, got to watch them do whatever it is they do.

00:02:44
Speaker 6: I bought a six dollars choco chip cookie.

00:02:46
Speaker 5: He's really mad about that, Shannon. The chocolate chip cookie was six dollars.

00:02:50
Speaker 4: But part of me wants to go like this is what when you buy things at sporting events they cost too much.

00:02:56
Speaker 3: That's part of the syntax, right, Yeah, it's a syentax.

00:03:00
Speaker 5: That's exactly right.

00:03:01
Speaker 6: To any choco cookie over three dollars, that blows my mind.

00:03:05
Speaker 5: Well, you cookie, but you also understand you didn't have to pay for.

00:03:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, the fact that you bought it, I mean they didn't have to get that's that's the market for it.

00:03:12
Speaker 4: Then, because the thing was, I will say this, I didn't know they were six dollars, and I just took one and walked away.

00:03:19
Speaker 5: Oh wow, quickly, you take a little moral high ground, all right.

00:03:27
Speaker 4: Normally the media food doesn't cost money, okay, And apparently it is on the house the rest of the week, just the first day they but I didn't know because normally we've never had to pay. By the way, I've always thought, I've always thought it was weird that the media got free food. It's my entire life. I've been like, why do they give us food? So I actually one of the people not complaining about this. But I walk over and they are cookies and sodas, and I was like, oh okay, and it looked like a.

00:03:55
Speaker 5: Big kniice chocolate a big knife. So Shane and I took the cookie and I took the soda and I sat.

00:04:01
Speaker 4: Down, and an hour later Ryan comes over and goes, can you believe they charged six dollars for this chocolate chip cookie that I got?

00:04:09
Speaker 5: And I went, they didn't charge me.

00:04:12
Speaker 6: We're all look at you, like what?

00:04:14
Speaker 4: And he show how did they not charge? And then I realized that there was a guy there to pay, and I just walked past him and.

00:04:19
Speaker 3: Didn't know he doesn't care, and he clearly didn't care.

00:04:23
Speaker 4: So now I have a moral quander. Right, I already got the cookie, you already ate it. But I'm probably on video having stolen a cookie.

00:04:31
Speaker 3: The cookie monster came in.

00:04:33
Speaker 5: I was the cookie monsterage.

00:04:35
Speaker 4: So I walked back and I looked at the guy and said, I took a cookie. I didn't know that we charged, and he goes, well, we do charge, and I was like.

00:04:44
Speaker 5: All right, here's six dollars. So I went back and paid it.

00:04:47
Speaker 6: You did, You did go back up and pay for it.

00:04:49
Speaker 5: But uh, but but you. But Ryan was very upset. But anyway, after we had our six dollars.

00:04:54
Speaker 4: Cookie, Mario was there for the UK stuff players.

00:04:59
Speaker 5: That Kentucky to the extent there was any news, Kentucky had a full practice. We watched Queen's, Purdue.

00:05:06
Speaker 4: Iowa State, and Tennessee State, and they did kind of what people do. They running a few drills, they shoot a lot of shooting, just a shooting like you know, it's it's a it's.

00:05:17
Speaker 5: Not really a real thing.

00:05:18
Speaker 4: And I think last year can that's what Kentucky did for the most part, But this year I did find it interesting. They did five on five they were the only team all day that went up and down the court five on five, and I thought that was I actually kind of liked that because I've always thought this always felt like to me, it was a wasted hour. You're on the court, you're playing with the balls, and guys just kind of stand around and goof off. I was like, well, why wouldn't you take it seriously? It looks like UK, because I don't think they did that last year. So I do think UK took a different strategy.

00:05:51
Speaker 6: I've never ever seen a team do that. I think I have a full out five on five practice of this little it's like forty five minutes I'll get on the court, like Yeah. So for Kentuck Lucky though, you know, maybe a month or so ago, you heard Pope talk about how they changed things up with their practice routine try to make them ready not fall behind early in these Did you.

00:06:08
Speaker 5: Like that, because I actually did.

00:06:09
Speaker 6: I think it maybe be a good move on his part to try to get more focused and ready for the game today.

00:06:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, so I thought that was an interesting and anyway, and it wasn't just Mark Pope's uh philosophy.

00:06:21
Speaker 5: I don't I do not think they did that last year, so I don't remember any are you.

00:06:25
Speaker 3: Are you worried about their legs at all?

00:06:26
Speaker 5: Though? No, come on, fatig it's forty five minutes. I mean, come on the scene.

00:06:33
Speaker 4: Ina, guys yesterday played didn't make one sub the whole game.

00:06:36
Speaker 6: Five guys played a fall four.

00:06:38
Speaker 5: Did you know that? And didn't make one sub the entire game.

00:06:40
Speaker 4: So I mean, now, granted they got tired at the end, but uh, but but I not at all.

00:06:47
Speaker 5: I liked it.

00:06:47
Speaker 4: I think we watched all day and I probably pointed out six times Ryan where the ball bounced down somebody.

00:06:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, like you could watch it. So I think getting used to that is good, beneficial.

00:06:59
Speaker 6: So it's good that's we're going five on five up and down the court to help you become more used to that basketball.

00:07:03
Speaker 4: I think that's why you do it, as at least to me. So then in the locker room, they open the locker rooms. It's always been unique to me that the NCAA Tournament is the first time you can go the SEC and the NCAA Tournament where the people are allowed in the locker room. You know, UK, and UK's not the only school. I think every school in the SEC does this other conferences. I don't know what their policy is, but you're not allowed in the locker room during the season.

00:07:30
Speaker 6: Right you used to be, Yes, I remember that.

00:07:33
Speaker 5: I never was part of that. Was that your era?

00:07:35
Speaker 6: Yeah, when I first got here Patino in ninety six, you could go in the locker room after the game and talk to the players.

00:07:40
Speaker 4: So I do think there's a period of getting used to that for players. I don't know if I think those locker rooms should be open, but regardless of where they should or not, they are right, so you have to get used to it. Again, we weren't there. Mario was there. Did you think, Mario the players look loose? No, well that's a little shaky what they were joking around a lot.

00:08:09
Speaker 5: Okay, that's good.

00:08:10
Speaker 4: Mario interviewed all the players asking what it meant by get money to touch money, and they all looked at him like, I actually thought it took guts for you to do it, because that seems like something an old white guy would ask, and you are like one of their peers, and you asked, and they seem but they explained it.

00:08:27
Speaker 6: Yellowch was the best.

00:08:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, Yellowch was like, I don't know.

00:08:30
Speaker 6: I Honestly, I don't know anybody what that's about. I just say it, but I don't know what I'm saying.

00:08:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, I just do it. I like that.

00:08:37
Speaker 4: So but if I'm glad the players were lose, I mean overall, I don't know that there's much you.

00:08:42
Speaker 5: Can clean from yesterday.

00:08:43
Speaker 4: But but but it occurred, then then you have the pope press conference thing. I we just people discussed, including me online quite a bit. You know, I don't want to it's the games today, There's no reason to go into it might be a conversation for next week. His uh comments about the axle thing. I don't want to get too distracted on it because it's it's game day and so ultimately let's let's focus on the game. But regardless, we are now ready for Santa Clara and how we feeling.

00:09:13
Speaker 6: I almost say just one thing. If he had talked to the media after the pairing, they would have asked that question five days ago. We had to deal with him the day before.

00:09:19
Speaker 4: It is an example of why you should have the press conference Monday, yeah, or right at the parent then you wouldn't have gotten asked about it the game day before the game.

00:09:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, So Santa Clara, how do we feel like? I said, I kind of woke up this morning in the shower, Like, wait a minute, this is woke up in the shower while were you sleeping in the show.

00:09:37
Speaker 6: I was in a big blue slumper.

00:09:40
Speaker 5: You woke up? You woke up in the show?

00:09:42
Speaker 4: Did you see SHANEA by the way, what he wore when we walked out the house for dinner? And that wasn't He wasn't trying to be funny. That is what he came out of the house.

00:09:51
Speaker 5: In, very sad.

00:09:52
Speaker 4: We weren't going to somewhere nice, but he didn't know that. He had no idea where.

00:09:57
Speaker 5: We were going.

00:09:57
Speaker 4: And we walked out, and and and you said that it was Dane Key's jacket.

00:10:01
Speaker 6: It was Dane's jacket. And all they fit. They pull their hoodie up over.

00:10:05
Speaker 5: It, but it doesn't fit, and especially doesn't fit when you put the hoodie on.

00:10:08
Speaker 6: Yeah, I had, and it was all kind of crunched up. I hadn't stretched out yet yet, you know, I'd just put it on.

00:10:13
Speaker 5: And can you imagine walking the house like that?

00:10:17
Speaker 2: I can see man boob, I can see nipple poking through like there's a whole lot going on there.

00:10:21
Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not a great dresser.

00:10:23
Speaker 4: I understand, like I wear hoodies and hats and and and so I'm not I get it.

00:10:30
Speaker 5: But I give Ryan credit.

00:10:33
Speaker 4: Like you, there may be no person more comfortable in who they are than you, you know what I mean, Like there is some value to that. You just you are you, and you are fine being you. I don't care.

00:10:47
Speaker 5: You don't. You really don't. And people say they don't care, but they can't.

00:10:53
Speaker 6: Of course they do.

00:10:53
Speaker 4: Like people will say I don't care what people think, but then you can tell by the things they do, whether it's a one or a man.

00:11:01
Speaker 5: They're doing stuff because they want to.

00:11:03
Speaker 4: Look like you know, anybody who like Jack's their truck up in the air, and it says, I don't care. Come on, dude, you care. I care, like we all like I think most people. You really don't care.

00:11:13
Speaker 6: I tell you should live life, right, you know, just every day, live life and be happy. His life's too short not to be happy.

00:11:18
Speaker 4: And I said, I take your picture. I didn't spring that on him and Shannon, he was.

00:11:22
Speaker 5: Like, yeah, he was trying to poe you like, no, just stand there.

00:11:26
Speaker 4: No, I just wanted you to stand there because you that's what you look like anyway.

00:11:30
Speaker 6: But you saw all the ladies like lining up when they saw me, Like.

00:11:33
Speaker 5: Shannon, there was a woman at dinner.

00:11:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, that Mario and I agreed might be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life.

00:11:43
Speaker 5: Oh okay, I have ever seen in my life.

00:11:47
Speaker 4: She walked by and like Mario and I completely agreed, that might be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

00:11:53
Speaker 5: And Ryan goes, want me to talk to her? Now, I can help you, guys, But I actually think he would have. Yeah, did you no? I know, because I'm not gonna bother this person the most in the world.

00:12:04
Speaker 3: You won't talk to her? Come on, man, I was with, Yeah, makes you look better?

00:12:12
Speaker 4: Maybe so, But I just loved the confidence that you even thought one would do that.

00:12:17
Speaker 6: He was gonna tell her a joke that Jimmy just told us at the table or something.

00:12:19
Speaker 5: The man who hosted at the restaurant. Ryan just came up and told er, Shannon just came up and told dirty jokes the whole.

00:12:27
Speaker 3: And Ryan wanted to lay one of those on her.

00:12:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, And what I thought was interesting is you walk up to a table full of strangers This is like a seventy year old man. You walk up to a table full of strangers just start telling jokes. How do you know they're gonna be okay with it? I think you see right, you don't care, and he doesn't care, and so it must be okay. He literally the whole night just kept coming up and telling dirty jokes.

00:12:49
Speaker 6: Like really dirty jokes. Ones we can't tell our mothers.

00:12:52
Speaker 5: No, And I go, man, I'm trying to eat anyway, all of this to get your.

00:12:59
Speaker 6: Great game stuff.

00:13:02
Speaker 4: When you see the Santa Clair team, we're bigger than them, bigger, We're stronger than stronger.

00:13:08
Speaker 5: We're fast, faster. Now they might be able to shoot better.

00:13:11
Speaker 4: But the way Texas A and M played Saint Mary's, if you watch that game, which ended up being a low scoring game.

00:13:18
Speaker 5: That's what Kentucky needs to do.

00:13:20
Speaker 4: Texas A and M just out athleted and played them, you know, physical, and that's what Kentucky.

00:13:27
Speaker 5: Needs to do today.

00:13:28
Speaker 6: The defense that Saint Mary saw last night and what Santa Clair will see today is something they've not seen all your life.

00:13:33
Speaker 5: They just don't get that athleticis they don't.

00:13:35
Speaker 4: But if you watch the Miami Ohio game, if you watch the VCU game, if you watch.

00:13:41
Speaker 5: The high Point game.

00:13:43
Speaker 4: The common denominator in all those games is they got the other team to play their style. They got the other team to not do their advantage, which was athleticism. Side. Mario and I were watching Kazag in Kannessas State and they had that Graham e k who.

00:13:59
Speaker 5: Kiss they had no chance of guarding.

00:14:01
Speaker 4: But Gonzaga went long stretches without giving him the ball, and like, you cannot play their style. So for Kentucky, they've got to, like play their style, get the ball, get to the basket, don't just.

00:14:15
Speaker 5: Settle for jumper.

00:14:16
Speaker 4: Like do the things that they're good at, and then I think they will be okay.

00:14:20
Speaker 6: Yeah, you attack the basket, man, You take advantage of your strength. I've got strength inside. On the defensive end, you know, you do you put your that athletics dosn't been talking about. They've not seen anything like that before. So put a lot of pressure on the basketball.

00:14:31
Speaker 4: Duke and Siena was the same way. Duke gets into a shooting contest with Cena. Next thing you know, they're down thirteen. But then the second half they just locked them down.

00:14:40
Speaker 5: Defensively, huh. And what did Ceena score eighteen points or something in the second half?

00:14:44
Speaker 4: That was it some tiny amount because Duke was like, all right, we may not be shooting well, but we're gonna make sure.

00:14:49
Speaker 5: You don't score huh. And that's what they did.

00:14:52
Speaker 4: And Kentucky has to do some version of that. If we play Santa Clair's game, then we give them a chance to win. We have to play the way we play and then we should be okay. As you saw in the A and M Saint Mary's.

00:15:03
Speaker 6: Then we saw teams do that. To us, it come out be physical pushes around. That's what we need to do the same.

00:15:08
Speaker 5: That's all we heard.

00:15:10
Speaker 4: A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. If you need a vehicle, you go to Don Franklin Don Franklin Auto dot com. They are driven by family. Got the best parts, the best selection, best prices, and it's all at Don Franklin twenty eight stores. Every time I read this, it seems to add another one. There's one near you, or go to Don Franklin Auto dot com. It is driven by family. We will take a break and be right back. It's KISR. Welcome back, take you sports Radio. Great day games yesterday, it was lasterday. Was why we love the NCAA term. You know, last year, very few upsets in the first round, people kind of thought, all nil portal, does that mean that stuff's gone?

00:15:52
Speaker 5: It was great, you know. Still the last top four seed to lose in the first round is Kentucky. Did you know that? No?

00:16:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, But but nevertheless, it was a lot of fun yesterday, like that is what it's supposed to be.

00:16:07
Speaker 6: Last night we all cut him up to watch Saint Louis and Georgia and your boy Kream abdul jabbar.

00:16:11
Speaker 5: Dude, Cream was killing killing. Let's go over the games real quick. Cream. I love seeing it. I feel like a proud papa. You know.

00:16:19
Speaker 4: I say a lot that I gave him that nickname. That's a little misleading, Like I gave him the nickname. I saw it, somebody like commented it, and then I just go, that's a great name, and I started calling.

00:16:32
Speaker 5: Him ran with it. So he gives me credit for it, and Wikipedia does.

00:16:35
Speaker 4: But I actually wasn't the technical person, but I was probably the person that made it famous. But there was some there's actually some listener here's probably the first one to have said it, but it's taken off and you know now they just keep adding to him, Milk Chamberlain, Larry Nerd, Larry blurd I saw Kevin mcpale. Yeah, Shaquille Oatmeal.

00:16:58
Speaker 5: You know, to make fun of the guy, and he look, he's not making fun. He's awesome.

00:17:03
Speaker 6: But he's a good player.

00:17:05
Speaker 7: The dude can played like he is and his he's beat up, yeah, but he's got like bruises and he's got He's like me like, I'll just get in the shower and I'm like, where did that Bruce come?

00:17:16
Speaker 2: He looks so unathletic, but somehow he always makes big plays and big shots and.

00:17:21
Speaker 5: He makes and he's a great passer, great passer. So I mean, they they killed George.

00:17:27
Speaker 6: Ran him off the floor, killed him like Georgia, What I mean, why.

00:17:33
Speaker 4: George even come? Yeah, like they they got destroyed. Then you had high point. That's the moment of the turn. It is, that's the moment of the tournament. They come they're down eight, they come back, they win. Their student announcers screaming is the hot I mean, that's the star, Like that's the best story so far. The best story of the tournament so far are those student announcers. You got the one guy who gives a great call, and then the other one just looks like he's having a heart attack.

00:17:56
Speaker 5: He doesn't he doesn't say a word in.

00:17:58
Speaker 3: The whole video though.

00:18:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, this sitement guy like, he doesn't say a word.

00:18:03
Speaker 6: No, he just very animated in his reaction.

00:18:05
Speaker 4: He's just like, and the first guy is going. First guy makes a great call. Actually, we'll play that as the introx s okay, because that that's amazing. Then Sienna legitimately looked like they could beat Duke. Yeah, that would have been the biggest upset in the history of the tournament.

00:18:24
Speaker 6: Yeah, Duke overall umber one, see yes, dominant team.

00:18:26
Speaker 4: I think Virginia was a number one overall seed, but it's Duke. Sienna beating Duke would have been the biggest upset I think in the history.

00:18:34
Speaker 5: Of the tournament.

00:18:35
Speaker 4: They led him most of the game, most of the game, and then uh, Duke came back and won. Then you had what u vcu VCU beats North Carolina another game. They were down nineteen points in the first and the second half. It's the largest NCAA tournament come back in the second half ever.

00:18:52
Speaker 6: Wow, that was a fun game to watch. Also, yeah, okay, going back to the high Point game, just one minute, talk about the dude to hit the game winning shot.

00:18:59
Speaker 4: I mean, what has to be one of the most amazing stats in basketball history. He had not made a two all year and he hits the game winning shot on a.

00:19:09
Speaker 3: Two baller, right, I mean, let me talking about clutch.

00:19:13
Speaker 4: Going into the game, he had sixty eight made threes and zero made twos march and then he gets the layup and you could tell as he was shooting and he was like.

00:19:24
Speaker 5: I've never done this before, lines, I don't I don't know how this.

00:19:30
Speaker 6: Play works the game when he shot to win the game, is your first two all year in the NCAA tournament.

00:19:35
Speaker 4: That's crazy, That's crazy, but it's awesome. Ye like that is That is an awesome moment. And of course John Caliperi now can go to the Sweet sixteen having beaten Hawaii and High Point.

00:19:50
Speaker 6: Oh I didn't realize that's how they played.

00:19:51
Speaker 3: He got the same thing in the SEC tournament.

00:19:53
Speaker 5: He did.

00:19:54
Speaker 4: He got the exact same draw on the SEC tournament. You don't have to play anybody. He had to play what old miss and Oaklhore Homer to go to the Sweet sixteen.

00:20:01
Speaker 6: He's doing something right.

00:20:03
Speaker 4: He's living right now. I mean part of it is you get a seed that allows.

00:20:07
Speaker 5: That to happen.

00:20:08
Speaker 4: But that's the thing about that four to five matchup. It's the hardest second round game unlesson upset is pulled.

00:20:15
Speaker 5: Uh huh.

00:20:16
Speaker 4: And there's a decent chance of an upset. So when you're a four or five, you've got a chance of that happening.

00:20:22
Speaker 6: Like it just happened right here, and it happened for him.

00:20:24
Speaker 4: So they play the cal can get the Sweet sixteen having beaten Hawaii and high points.

00:20:30
Speaker 2: What's count of me out the Dog's Barker Park car.

00:20:36
Speaker 3: You forgot to hammer that last nil in my coass right.

00:20:39
Speaker 5: From Little Rock to Jonesboro. You know they don't poop in the ozarks. What like?

00:20:47
Speaker 4: That's what that that's what he's gonna do. But that's all right, you know, I guess they they earned that. What else did we see yesterday? TCU Tom cream Yeah, dude, don't bet against Tom Crean.

00:20:58
Speaker 6: He picked that for you with.

00:20:59
Speaker 4: That, say I bet against us I picked the KSR parlay Shannon got every leg.

00:21:05
Speaker 3: Were off because you went against the point spread.

00:21:08
Speaker 5: I don't like the point spread.

00:21:09
Speaker 4: It's hard to do the money line though, in the in the first round because the spreads are too big. But uh God, if you faded me and you bet against me in every spread, you would have won.

00:21:19
Speaker 5: You haven't won again today, then we're putting one out.

00:21:23
Speaker 4: I think they should draft Kings, should just put the opposite of what Matt says out.

00:21:28
Speaker 6: The anti chass.

00:21:29
Speaker 5: It's really strange. I'm work.

00:21:33
Speaker 4: I think there's something too knowing to there's too much about it. I know more about college basketball than sport, and it's the worst thing I gamble on. I don't know anything about the NFL, and I've won our pick contest eight straight years. I don't know anything about it. In college basketball, I feel like I know a lot. And the ESPN Radio bracket pool, Myron metcalf is a college basketball reporter and he's in last. I do think there's a part of this that you like. There is you're in first place in our pool and you don't know anything.

00:22:06
Speaker 6: And I just went through and picked it in like five minute.

00:22:10
Speaker 5: He's in the ninety six percent time, and he doesn't know anything.

00:22:15
Speaker 6: Just picked it, so you don't think about it too much. Just pick on impulse.

00:22:19
Speaker 5: Maybe that's a.

00:22:20
Speaker 3: Key stated in the Airbnb not even a holiday inn.

00:22:22
Speaker 4: I know, so I do think the NCAA tournament. I don't even know why I tried to pick these games.

00:22:27
Speaker 5: So do you have your.

00:22:28
Speaker 6: Party already today?

00:22:29
Speaker 7: Yeah?

00:22:30
Speaker 4: I gave him one, but I mean I wouldn't bet it. Say it and it's mine. Yeah, I might bet it if it was the exact opposite. I got every.

00:22:37
Speaker 5: Game wrong last night?

00:22:39
Speaker 6: How many games were on it?

00:22:40
Speaker 5: Well?

00:22:40
Speaker 4: I mean I actually made money yesterday betting because I bet on high point to win.

00:22:44
Speaker 6: So you hit that party early in the after I hit.

00:22:46
Speaker 4: I hit the early one. But at not every game wrong? Can you get every game wrong?

00:22:52
Speaker 6: Takes skill?

00:22:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, so we do that again. If I'm zero for eight, that would be pretty We'll take a break, very back, Skia. Sorry.

00:23:01
Speaker 3: TJ Smith personal injury attorney called TJ.

00:23:04
Speaker 4: He'll make them pay.

00:23:05
Speaker 5: Now.

00:23:06
Speaker 2: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:09
Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:11
Speaker 5: He starts now Johnson Show. I love it. I love these dudes. I love how excited they got. I loved it. The one guy you don't.

00:23:38
Speaker 4: Hear the other guy's voice because he ain't talking, and just just an awesome set of excitement.

00:23:44
Speaker 6: I've heard it a dozen times and still got chili bulbs right there. These are students, right, You're students were students at high Point.

00:23:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very cool because they don't have regular radio broadcasts so that their students.

00:23:53
Speaker 5: Do the game.

00:23:53
Speaker 4: That's fantastic that I wish, you k I wish all colleges also had a student broadcast yep, but they don't do it. Puppet Shop makes it easier and cheaper with Clark's Rewards app. Download the app turn points every time you shop, save on fuel during cold weather mornings. It's Clark's Pump and Shop drive through, drive in, pump in Shop, family owned and local Clark's Pumping Shop, Return, refresh, refuel at Clark's Pumping Shop eight five nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. Text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. Virtually every text or mini text or want to talk about Pope's comments, So let's give it one minute. I think Pope had reasonable things to say in some ways about the current media environment. He also used it as just a chance to air grievances. It was odd for me that he did it in that moment because it was Yaxel. The quote from Yaxel was from him. It wasn't from some anonymous source. He always brings up these AI images about like when his these stories about his wife and all these things, which that's just random people on the internet. So I I here's what I take from it, less the specifics of It's just been a tough year I think from Mark in terms of communicating the way he wants to communicate with the media and with the public. And it we be interested during the off season to see, like why did that happen? And how can that get better? Because it's very rarely a good idea to have that tension and I'm not really sure who Mark's mad at in some ways, you know, and I wish that that weren't the case and hopefully that it will get better. It was weird because it was Mark's story of the Herald asking him a question about the ap Like, it wasn't random people on the internet in their underwear. It was like the most the biggest journalist in terms of journalism that there is at Kentucky.

00:25:49
Speaker 5: It's been a weird year. He's been weird about and the media going back to what he ducked about after.

00:25:54
Speaker 6: The Louisville game in Michigan State Michigan State game, there's just been a lot of them.

00:25:58
Speaker 5: It's just been odd. It's just been an.

00:26:02
Speaker 4: You know, again, it's not it's not a huge deal, but it's just been odd. And I hope again, like if we have a good weekend here, a lot of that stuff goes away. You win these two games, you win today, and you win Sunday, and a lot of these sort of secondary things that have been in the conversation they just kind of melt away. So that's why I hope it happens for him, and I hope it happens for a fan base because a lot of the stuff we worry about will no longer really matter if you just win.

00:26:31
Speaker 5: If you just win, That's who was it? Just win? Baby? Was that who said? Just win? Baby? Parcel Dicka?

00:26:40
Speaker 6: It might have been Bill Parcells?

00:26:41
Speaker 5: Who was it, Shannon, I don't know. Coach just said just win? The NFL coach it was Bill Parsons.

00:26:47
Speaker 6: Davis Al Davis okay, Al Davis another example, by the way of the sun is always worse than the day.

00:26:57
Speaker 4: So anyway, win today when Sunday, and we won't be talking about now. One thing is, I granted we're not far from Kentucky, but we've seen almost no Kentucky fans.

00:27:09
Speaker 5: No.

00:27:09
Speaker 4: I saw a handful of them walking out of that practice yesterday, yep, but other.

00:27:15
Speaker 5: Than that none. Do you think that gets better today? I do?

00:27:18
Speaker 6: Okay, the times that Kentucky's been here, the crowd has always kind of flooded to town. So maybe they came last night for the game today at noon, or maybe.

00:27:26
Speaker 4: They're driving this morning because it's not very far. Yeah, but I was struck, like at the practice there were more. I was say, there were more Purdue fans than Kentucky fans at.

00:27:35
Speaker 5: That practice yesterday.

00:27:37
Speaker 4: Little odd, little odd. But again we're close, so you don't have to make the right.

00:27:42
Speaker 5: We'll see what it looks like here in a couple hours. Who's next, Shannon, Sam, Sam, go ahead and.

00:27:46
Speaker 8: Sham Hey, guys, how's it going. I'm about thirty minutes outside of Saint Louis.

00:27:52
Speaker 5: Hey, there you go. There's an example.

00:27:53
Speaker 4: So hopefully that's right, Yeah.

00:27:57
Speaker 8: I just wanted to talk about how some of our fans are a little dooming, and you guys kind of just mentioned this, but it's not I'll use your line. It's not crazy that that we can win two basketball games.

00:28:06
Speaker 5: It's three. It's not crazy that we could win three.

00:28:11
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I think bad Michigan is asking a lot, but it is not crazy to win three.

00:28:17
Speaker 8: Go ahead, Yeah, I mean seven seeds, eight seeds make runs every year. We have Otaga away. It's not like we have a bunch of bombs out there. We've got good players with tournament experience that are old guys. So I mean, it's not crazy. I'm not expecting us to go to the championship or anything, but people are acting like the season's over. We've got all summer to complain. Let's get excited and go win a few games. I'm with you.

00:28:42
Speaker 5: Just look at yesterday. I appreciate the call. Just win Texas place BYU.

00:28:47
Speaker 4: Okay, those are two Power conference schools and SEC versus a big twelve five seed difference between Texas and BYU, and Texas controlled the game and one basically led the whole game.

00:28:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, ce Cee over a Big twelve school. There's a five seed.

00:29:03
Speaker 4: Difference between you know, Kentucky and and and Ilowa State, Texas A and m SEC school plays a West Coast Conference school in Saint Mary's controls the whole game and wins.

00:29:19
Speaker 5: That's what we have to do today against Santa Clair.

00:29:22
Speaker 6: When you have better dudes than the other dudes, you should win the basketball game. Take advantage of your strengths. Like you said, I feel like we need three guys. If O take a in Aberdeen show up that we think they are, who's the third guy. It's gonna be Chandler. Somebody's got to step up today, be that third guy.

00:29:37
Speaker 5: What's your biggest worry, because I have one. What's your biggest worry?

00:29:40
Speaker 6: Well, we mentioned how they're three point percentages similar to ours, but they shoot like about twice as many as we do. If they get hot and just start bombing them in from everywhere, then we get discombobulated and try to do too much and try to play like we're don't know what we're doing. If we have a time when we get behind like that, that's my biggest worry.

00:29:55
Speaker 4: I worry is you cannot fall behind by double digits in this game because it will be harder for us to come back because they have they they shoot so many threes that if you get down eleven, it's gonna be hard because all they got do is hit one and it kind of makes it even you.

00:30:13
Speaker 5: This is a game.

00:30:14
Speaker 4: I don't want to see us having to dig a hole because that I think would make us then play a style that's what they want, where we're out there jacking three.

00:30:22
Speaker 6: So we don't.

00:30:22
Speaker 4: We don't play that, right, We don't really, I mean, we rarely play that well, so we cannot kind of continue our path of all of a sudden, we're down twelve and the whole game we're sitting there trying. Then we cut it to six and we're like okay, and then they hit three and it's nine, Like we can't. We can't do that. We've got to be rich A and M. Yesterday was the example of Texas against by Us.

00:30:45
Speaker 5: Example.

00:30:45
Speaker 4: They came out and they led early and they just kept that lead throughout the game.

00:30:50
Speaker 6: I think we went it on the defensive end because they get that lead and then lock them up on the other end of the floor.

00:30:56
Speaker 5: Eighty seven. Who's next, Adam, Adam? Go ahead? At him.

00:31:02
Speaker 9: I totally agree with you on filling out brackets. Last year had a pool of about twenty family members and me and my father in law are really the only ones who follow college basketball, and it was you know, my two youngest sons eight and five, came in, came came ahead of me.

00:31:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean on the ESPN radio with Myron is in last and I am like in eighth out of fifteen and we're the only ones to watch it. And the people that are winning are people who I know don't even watch the sport.

00:31:41
Speaker 5: And you're like, well, what are you supposed to do?

00:31:42
Speaker 9: You know, Yeah, it's insane. Have you seen the movie The Hangover? Yes, there is a scene in there that Bradley Cooper looks at Zach Galafanakus's like, are you really wearing that? As they're about to go out in the town. It's like, are you.

00:32:00
Speaker 5: That's what I did yesterday? Yeah?

00:32:04
Speaker 4: I mean, I I appreciate it's called you're being very sort of considerate in your comparisons. If I get Bradley Cooper, but I do think Zach galifan Akis in that movie has a little Ryan in him.

00:32:14
Speaker 6: I thought, I he's winning me, I was Bradley Cooper. No you don't like Cooper.

00:32:20
Speaker 5: No, you do not, you do not.

00:32:22
Speaker 6: I'm Zach galifan Akis.

00:32:23
Speaker 5: Yes, grow a beard and it's you, I will say.

00:32:26
Speaker 4: Though, when you don't pull the hood up, it doesn't look quite as bad. There was something about the hood and the tightness that combined to to to make that p rats is locally owned and operate appliance furniture mattress store serve the air for your area for over seventy five years. 00:32:58
Speaker 5: Uh. What was it you told me about Rondo's kid?

00:33:01
Speaker 6: He's an eighth grader, started to point out for North Laurel, he had nineteen points at halftime last night. It's wow finish with twenty five as they won their first opening round game nineteen and a half time, nineteen at halftime in eighth grade and eighth grader dominated so they really.

00:33:17
Speaker 4: Haven't been any upsets in sweet sixteen. I guess North Laurel beating Warrenson.

00:33:20
Speaker 6: That was probably an upset. Yeah, for sure. Marshall County won yesterday. I told them North old the one, yes, Rogers Clark.

00:33:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, and then remember the other one, Grace Grayson County beat Taylor.

00:33:32
Speaker 6: Grace County beat Taylor either right, yeah, he if.

00:33:34
Speaker 5: I'm nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven. Shannon and I had a big night, our big afternoon yesterday, which we need to talk about. Yes, we do need to talk about it, and then more as we get you ready.

00:33:44
Speaker 4: It is the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealers KSR pregame show slash KSR Regular Show slash.

00:33:50
Speaker 5: Mario was late this morning. This is Kentucky Sports, right. Pierre Rondo Junior.

00:33:59
Speaker 6: And we may have actually said North Laurel he plays at north Oldham had several people say we accidentally said.

00:34:04
Speaker 5: Who's you by we you and you.

00:34:06
Speaker 6: I don't think it was me.

00:34:08
Speaker 5: No, I just said North Laurel One. I didn't say Pierre Oldham Blay. Yeah.

00:34:10
Speaker 6: I didn't think we messed up with Pierre Rondo. Several people said we said it wrong. But he plays for north Old One.

00:34:15
Speaker 5: I mean, I wouldn't shock me.

00:34:17
Speaker 4: Yesterday, Shannon and I did our relationship podcast. It is on the Interrupted feed. I would say to you, if we lose today and you want to cheer yourself up, listen to it.

00:34:26
Speaker 5: If we win, do it as celebration.

00:34:29
Speaker 4: Shan and I answered fifteen questions from listeners about relationships.

00:34:33
Speaker 5: And I think, Shannon, we helped people.

00:34:35
Speaker 2: I think we saved the world yesterday with that podcast. Helped everybody's relationship. And I want to pay you a compliment for a show called Interrupted by Matt Jones.

00:34:43
Speaker 3: You didn't interrupt me one time? Wow, not one.

00:34:46
Speaker 5: No.

00:34:46
Speaker 4: I did have somebody say, who would have thought how far Shannon had Matt have come since the first show that they're now doing shows to get her on relationship?

00:34:53
Speaker 3: Only took us fifteen years to get there.

00:34:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, but we finally did a show together just the two of them. I enjoined it. I think that's a good niche for you.

00:35:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a lot of fun.

00:35:01
Speaker 5: Really enjoy What are you laughing at? Because I was sitting over there on the couch, listen you guys do this show.

00:35:07
Speaker 6: I'm about to jump off the chair. Because I want to you guys, are you were forty years old and never been married.

00:35:14
Speaker 5: I've done it twice. Yeah, I've been through the means.

00:35:17
Speaker 3: You need to listen to that podcast.

00:35:20
Speaker 4: You should be listening to us. Yeah, we have a combined zero divorces.

00:35:25
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean you got pal you when it comes down to it, You're got to be the man of the house whenever she tells you to do the laundry. That's how life goes when you're married.

00:35:36
Speaker 4: Do the laundry. What are you talking about? We didn't have any questions about laundry. We had questions that were important, like about uh, you know, when you know you have the one and and and whether or not you should stay in the sleep in the same.

00:35:48
Speaker 3: Bed, function all kinds of good stuff, all kinds.

00:35:51
Speaker 5: Of good stuff. And we did. We did sensitive topics in sensitive ways. You know. The text machine is where people have been me their feedback.

00:36:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been amazingly positive and uh you know a lot of women liking it hearing the man's perspective.

00:36:08
Speaker 5: Uh huh.

00:36:09
Speaker 4: Listen, if you want to do your own one and could do it, I don't know what. I adore you, but why would anyone listen to you.

00:36:17
Speaker 6: You know, I could see a woman listening to a man perspective, but she's still the boss.

00:36:21
Speaker 5: She still see its lines like that.

00:36:24
Speaker 4: No Alpha, he's beta exactly.

00:36:30
Speaker 3: He's he's gotta be some balance.

00:36:32
Speaker 5: Ryan, He's gotta got some bald. You gotta have a little I mean, you know, I have a have a beta side.

00:36:36
Speaker 4: You saw me on the bull that was very beta, But there there's an alpha side too, beating.

00:36:44
Speaker 5: You know, you gotta you gotta mix a match.

00:36:46
Speaker 4: I did enjoy your conversation on libido. Yeah, I mean, well we handled it sensibly. It's a fair question that comes up in relationship does people? And someone asked, you know what if at a stage of your life you each have different labimas, and Shannon and I.

00:37:01
Speaker 5: That that happens to people. You have to uh and we fixed it. What's up next?

00:37:07
Speaker 3: John Short?

00:37:08
Speaker 5: I'm perfect, perfect John Short.

00:37:12
Speaker 10: Go ahead, Oki, Donky gready Americans, thank you very much. Well, we're going today, a boy, Tim Biggins I started. We lost last night. We're going to meet James manson Marve for twenty five Biggins and we're gonna win in baseball to night and defense will be rare we neededlation, we needed lead the nation's offense and defense and steals and assists.

00:37:36
Speaker 5: That's right. If you do all that, I got a good chance to win. Thank you. John. The baseball team did lose last night to.

00:37:42
Speaker 6: At Ole Miss. The three games series started yesterday, so yeah, it was a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series.

00:37:48
Speaker 4: You know, hopefully we can get him back, get get him back today. I want you to read Bob and Jamestown's text to you, because you know Miami of Ohio won. So I was gonna let him Shannon call the show ready, and he didn't. No, that's okay, Well we'll put him.

00:38:02
Speaker 6: He's here.

00:38:02
Speaker 4: We gave him the chance. Here's what Bob and James down do, the short version of what he said to you.

00:38:06
Speaker 6: Yes So I was texting yesterday, said Matt was gonna let you come and call in first and talk. He says, Ryan, I was in the garage getting exhaust work done on a street legal Chevy Copo Camaro dragcar. I crossed four rivers and two snowstorms to pick it up in Omaha.

00:38:23
Speaker 3: I want to hear more about it.

00:38:24
Speaker 6: Okay, there's more, Ryan. I'm ready for spring and it has sprung Weather's absolutely gorgeous today. Ready to put top down on that seven hundred horsepower Copo Camaro convertible and let it fly. Our local sheriff did the out of state vehicle inspection personally on this bad personally. Wow, that's our boy.

00:38:44
Speaker 5: That's that's that's great. You don't no, it's game day, it's day day, and that you gave the chance.

00:38:52
Speaker 6: Talk about Mamion Ohio, he's talking about his new Chevy com.

00:38:54
Speaker 5: Are you do you think they have any chance against Tennessee today? Oh? That's today. Yeah.

00:39:00
Speaker 6: They shoot like they did the other night. Man, they can have beat anybody. They were bombing them from everywhere.

00:39:04
Speaker 4: It would be the perfect wouldn't a perfect day be we win and then they beat Tennessee.

00:39:09
Speaker 6: Yes, Maybelehio beach Tennessee.

00:39:10
Speaker 4: Which would which would open up the possibility of us playing them. Yeah, you know, if we beat Iowa State, they be Virginia. I mean that's a it's a long shot.

00:39:17
Speaker 6: But like what you say, every year, the first four winner win.

00:39:21
Speaker 4: I said, every year, first four winner wins their next game. But when that's already happened, Texas did it, you know, Texas did it? I think something like since the first four started, I think every year but one one of those teams has won, has won their first round game. Yeah, so that's one of the things I always look for. I ended up I picked Texas to win the game. That's by you, because I thought that would be What do you.

00:39:44
Speaker 6: Think has a shot today?

00:39:47
Speaker 5: I mean they have a shot, but I would pick Tennessee. Yeah, but they have a shot.

00:39:51
Speaker 6: Yeah, they aim in his back and look good in the SEC tournament.

00:39:54
Speaker 4: What do you think about the fact that UK Santa Clara is the most bet game in the tournament.

00:39:59
Speaker 6: So I don't know if you know this or not, but a wise philosopher once said, we don't just move the needle, we are the needle.

00:40:06
Speaker 4: But do you think that's because I mean the spread is two and a half. I mean there's clearly a lot of people betting against us, probably a lot of I mean obviously got to four and a half. Yeah, we started opened it two and a half.

00:40:17
Speaker 6: I thought opened it three and a half, and then it went to.

00:40:19
Speaker 5: Four and a half, and now it's back to two.

00:40:20
Speaker 6: And that's what I bet. I bet it two and a half.

00:40:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, there's a world where we do what A and M did to Saint Mary's, and we just went by like.

00:40:31
Speaker 6: Fourteen because we just we're just bad, stronger.

00:40:34
Speaker 4: But then there's a world where we get behind and with three minutes to go, the whole crowd's gonna root against us.

00:40:41
Speaker 5: I mean, everybody there that's not a Kentucky.

00:40:43
Speaker 6: Fan we'll be rooting against them, will be rooting.

00:40:45
Speaker 4: For Santa Clair, including all the Iowa State fans that are there.

00:40:48

Speaker 4: They'll be There'll be a bunch of Iowa State fans there and they will be rooting against it.

00:40:56
Speaker 5: Yes, for sure.

00:40:57

00:41:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, ks Bar, you could come watch the game there. I expect a big crowd and hopefully a happy crowd there. We had good crowds yesterday, but this is this is different. You know, I think it's a massive game for some of these guys about whether or not they're going to come back. I talked to somebody yesterday who I think really knows and says there's a lot of these guys that just don't know. They said that, like, I think it's a really good chance we have Chandler, there's a really good chance we have Cam. But for a lot of the rest of the guys, they don't know for real, like not just saying that they really don't know. This could be huge in terms of determining that. So there's a lot on the line today in one basketball game against the team we barely know. A five' nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven. We'll take a break right back.
