821: REVENGEANCE

Giant Bombcast

We had a bit of a light gaming week on account of being busy, but Jeff, Jeff, Shawn, and Niki are still here to give you a nice, long (and sometimes heated) conversation about what we predict PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo will do in 2024!

Oh Friday. Oh my gosh, I love you so freaking much, Friday.
How's it going everybody? This is the BombCast Revengeance. Do the echo
with my voice please right now. Thank you? Echo echo, echo voice
echo. Oh sure, yeah, yeah, that's my job. You just
found out about it, but that's what's gonna happen. Welcome everybody to the
Giant BombCast Revengeance. That's right, it's Friday. It's time for you to
get just another second helping. You went back up to this the bar.
You're like, you know what, it wasn't blowing in another plate, But
here I am, and I'm loading it up with just olives and onions and
maybe banana peppers. Saved it at the end. Yeah, saved it with
those banana PEPs. Uh. Jeff Grubb is here. How are you?
I'm good? What's the What is like? Is that like your would you
consider that a meal? Like if I woke up in the morning I had
like a bowl of jalapenos, I would consider that breakfast. Sometimes it's just
the ramblings of a psycho. I don't understand. Never said it was a
bowl of alps, like a small ball? Is that small? It's so
weird. Oh my god, we must pivot out line. All right,
Well, no, I have a question. Are they fresh or pickled?
Listen, I would love them fresh, but they're pickled, Like come on
look at me. Oh yeah, he would die if he ate fresh alpinos
like a bowl of them, like a bowl. Yes, I would just
I would eat one occasionally, but like, yes, it would kill me.
Could you imagine going to a diner and then one of the items available
for order is fresh bowl that's so weird. I've had like a little like
cup of holopenos delivered to my table before, as like like like there's nacho
chips and there's salsa, and then there's a bunch of like a nacho just
sliced, and then I'll just munch on those. Okay, I was gonna
say, you're not supposed to do that. That's there. They're garnish.
They're garnished. They're not like okay, yes, but they're really tasty.
Well yeah, sure, no one's gonna argue with you there. I won't,
and neither will Nikki Grayson, how are you true? I'm good.
I'm good. I'm hanging out. It's freaking Friday, dude, you know
and that's huge as a person who loves Friday it's already Friday. That this
is the first short week in a long time where I've thought it's already Friday.
Yeah, it's not like I used to be like, short week,
give it to me. That's awesome. It's Friday's gonna be here before I
know it. And then that stopped happening at some point, and this week
it came back, and I'm very relieved. They're the best. They're the
best kind of week. I am a pro four day week person. Pass
it around. Uh turble Sean, how are you. I'm hanging in there,
Jeben. Very busy this week. Yeah, tell us about your week?
Uh, Jan, where are you? No, I'm getting everything done,
you know, everything's being taken care of us and everything. But I'm
just like, how the hell does Jan do this on top of everything else
he does? So yeah, I'm yeah. Well, I want to extend
our our our gratitude to you because you really are helping us out in a
way that, uh, I'm not sure we can really put into words.
Keeping the website on somehow, keeping keeping the lights on, keeping the plates
spinning, keeping the drinks filled, and keeping the jalapeno bulls filled up with
for that that shit that was my writer, Thank you. Just like,
imagine you're at a party and someone's just like passing that around. You're just
like, what the fuck is wrong? Would you share? I would keep
it to myself. I wouldn't pass it around. So strange. Speaking of
eating stuff, guys, I went to Korean barbecue after our LA excursion,
and I gotta say, like, that place was really good. And I
don't think the place I went to here was at the same level, but
it was like maybe ninety percent of the way there. It's still fun because
the think about Korean barbecue is it's a good time because the cook cook and
have it on the table. That's satisfying. Here's the thing, Okay,
I get home from LA and I say to Stacey and Dem, I'm like,
yo, we gotta do Korean barbecue. Just like take your jacket off,
Like what do you do? Like like like, no, it's two
am, but your jagging out. Let's go, I don't pants on.
It took like two weeks, so maybe three weeks to finally round up the
crew, and then we went out with another family that we're friends with and
everyone was like very They were like, oh, this sounds exotic, like
Backler is gonna show us a good time. And here I am feeling like
I got a lot of pressure on me now because I'm gonna have to like
be the jan where I'm like telling everyone what everything is and how we have
to cook it. It was a lot of pressure. It was a lot
of pressure. But I think we killed it. The only thing we fucked
up with. And I knew this was gonna happen because my buddy who I
went with, his eyes were way bigger than his stomach, and I kept
saying, like Jake, I don't I don't think we should order that much,
like you're this is like for a small football team and it's just like
seven of us and we over ordered. It was fine, but I some
of that game. Yeah, here's the thing, friends, when you when
you over order at Korean barbecue, you still have to cook everything before you
take up work. Yeah, you get your own fucking left of so you're
not hungry anymore and you've got to just get in that grill and grill it's
still just like you know, forking and stuff around full two. The smell
is making me nauseous as well, but here we just flipped the head and
put it in a little to go back. I went to the Korean barbecue
place once and they brought us the wrong like, they brought us an extra
plate of brisket. Oh, and they put it on the It was a
situation where they're like, here's the meat. Here. It goes on to
the thing, and then we like started to cook it. And then they
came back and they were like, is this y'alls? And we were like,
I don't know. You brought it to us, like I don't know,
And then they were and then they like talked amongst themselves and they're like,
oh, no, this is for a different table. So they picked
up the whole fucking heating element out of the table and then they threw it
away in front of us. They picked up the whole fucking plate and they
threw all of it away. It hadn't even finished cooking and they just tost
it. It was that's a crazy I was so upset. They're like,
not for you. They didn't even bring it over to the other table.
No, then just threw it away. We'd rather see this. You get
a three piece of meat. Oh my God, that is very weird.
You know, it never went back there because we were all mad. Of
course I would never can't be rewarded again, you know. Wow. All
right, so that was my Korean barbecue story. I'll be back at that
place because it was I think it was pretty good. All I was considered
being in a suburban Jersey. What else friends, what else we got cooking?
I'm with Sean where it's like, boy has a lot of work this
week. They're just kind of went on stop. I'm like, I like,
here's my problem. The week starts out. We're in that meeting and
like Jan Sick, Lucy and Tammark there, they're busy there. I think
there are stole on breaking. I knew what was coming and I was like,
oh, okay, I didn't really notice and I didn't think about it,
like we should do all this stuff. And I'm like, oh,
we should not have planned to do all this stuff. I should have planned
for way less of what we had planning for. Because I'm like, oh,
mag, I'm jumping from one thing to another. So yeah, at
this point, I'm like I'm gonna go get on the steam deck and just
lay on the bean bag and play a video game for like two hours tonight
playing a video game. I've been doing a lot of that. What have
you been playing? You play? You heard of his any game? Pickman
four? Oh? Oh, I heard of that? Yeah? You see
over there? Yeah? Wow, he triggered. Wait, time out.
You can't just trigger the thing after someone just breaks up. He's doing it
again. He's triggering everything. Wait, I don't. I didn't know you
trigger stuff on this man. He's triggering everything. John from Maryland asks,
actual, we'll get to that genuine you call me by surprise. When Nikki,
Oh my god, Jen, where the fuck are you? Jen?
You can't be that sick. Enough is enough? Anyway? You know it's
Friday. Nikki brings up Pickman four, and all hell breaks loose. Listen,
you're playing Pickman four. Yeah, so I have never I played Pickman
one when I had my GameCube, and I didn't like it because I was
afraid of the bugs on the TV. Expect you to say that there,
Oh man, there was Nintendo fucking loved a bug in the early two thousands
when I when I didn't get through Metro Prime either, because you in the
first level ofmentary prime when you're on the ship, you get through the you
go through the whole fucking thing, and then there's that big bug in the
tube that you have to shoot. And I got there and then I started
screaming, and then I turned the GameCube off and I took the disc out
and I said, Mom, we have to take this back. And then
we took it back and I got a different game, but I'm playing Pickman
four. I downloaded the demo while I was in New Zealand, and I
was like, oh, I'll play the demo on the plane on like one
of my flights to determine whether or not I will like the game. I
got thirty five minutes in and I passed out in the middle of playing it,
and I was like, well, if that means that it's not for
me, and then all you guys were talking about it, and I was
like, Okay, I'll give it another shot. So I replayed the demo
earlier in the week and I had a blast, just like was like it
like it all clicked basically immediately, and I was like, okay, I'll
buy the full game. Bought the game, and I'm having such a good
time. It's like it's so it's just fun. It's chilled. The pacing
is really good. The speed at which the game goes from like oh,
nothing, nothing bad is happening to you. Everything is on fire and I
need to like put this fire out, and then it's like, oh,
you put the fire out, easy piece. But it's like they're stress somehow
they found a way to like like make faux stress, like, yeah,
it's stressful, isn't It's like once you realize, oh I handled that,
Oh that wasn't so bad, but oh my god, all this stuff is
going wrong, and they like even when they get to the point where like
later in the game there's like this more time segment. They got rid of
the most of the timing elements here, like the day style ends, but
they're not trying to rush you through in a thirty day segment. They have
something like that later in the game. And even that, it's like you
could work yourself into a shoot thinking that, oh I got to get this
stuff done, but you're gonna find out like, oh, I could actually
get through this in about half the time that they give me. So yeah,
it's it's really neat. And I think there is also such a big
one of the things that pushed me away from it, especially when Piman three
came out, was I was like, I don't know if I have the
bandwidth mentally to manage all of the things that I thought that the game would
make me manage. But so much of Pickman four, I don't want to
say plays itself. But they have, like they have so thoroughly sanded the
edges of this game. Yes, like the fact that I can open the
map and be like, Okay, I don't want to I physically don't want
to hold the stick to walk to here, but I can go over there.
I can just go over there, and then I'm just like okay,
well the game will take me over there, and then I'll do the thing
that I want to do, and then I'll tell the game to take me
back to this other place and then it'll do it. It's so nice like
it it feels it's a very considered experience and like I feel like I'm being
taken care of as the players, especially like having just hopped off of Pokemon
Violet because I finished that up also earlier this month, literally on a whim.
Yeah, I was like, it's like, what if I finished this
game that I literally got ninety eight percent of the way through and that game
fucking sucks. But that game like has no there's it doesn't for many reasons,
right, Like that game was not ready to come out when it came
out, like obviously we all everyone, yeah, like I don't want to
relitigate Pokemon Scarlett Violet. But even from a conceptual perspective, that game does
not give a shit about the player. It doesn't feel like it does.
Pickman four very much cares about whether or not I'm having a good time all
playing it, and I can feel that and I appreciate it and I'm really
having a blast. And the thing is like with Pickman, uh, there's
an evolution there where it's like they kind of got to that point over time
where they're like, actually, that is going to be our new north Star.
It was not always what the right the hallmark of the Pickman series,
the thing about like going to the map and setting away point and your character's
just running there. They came out with that for Pickman two, and when
they had you have like controlling like two different characters at once. Yes,
you had to send one character over there, and you could still control two
characters to once. In this game, one could be og and one could
be your character. You never have to do that, not really, you
can if you want, if you like wanted, like, oh, like
I'm gonna go take care of all these things at the same time, that
would be nice. Well then do it and pickman two. You had to
do it, and so you were managing all this stuff, and so they're
like, well, we got to give you ways to be able to manage
two things at once. In a way that felt very like we are going
to specifically challenge the player and what they're capable of, even if it's a
player who might not necessarily feel capable of that thing. You know, it's
a game. Eventually, you're gonna get good enough at it. This game
is like, No, the fun thing here is the loop. It is
looking at what's ahead and being like, I can't wait to get that thing.
I see it's a giant thing over there. I can't wait to have
enough. Yeah, that can walk through water and go pick that up and
then come through here. And that that big ambastard over there that shoots fire,
I'll attack him and he'll be dealt with. And like, I just
have this plan in my plan in my mind. And now that I'm here.
I can't wait to just do this and this and this and this to
accomplish that. And then once shooes you do that, you see another thing
and it just strings you along by the nose. Yes, And it's so
it's so it's expertly crafted. Each of these spaces is so like lovingly considered
that at Nope, it it's like it kind of feels like, you know
how in Breadth of the Wilds when you find a thing or enters the King,
when you see a thing and you're like, oh fuck, I can't
wait to get to there eventually, And like sometimes you like try to make
your way over there and then you get distracted. Right, sure, Pigment
four is not the scales not there, the scope isn't there. You're not
going to get distracted. But each of the things that you will find are
so thoroughly worthwhile. The first like I pulled a game Boy micro out of
the fucking ground. Last I lost my mind. I was like, this
is the sickest shit in the world. I didn't even think anybody know we's
talking about this guy. The worst game point into ever made. That's the
weirdest one. And then I was like this is so sick. I'm gonna
put it back in my little in my little spaceship and then they're gonna It's
like, it's so cool. It just it feels lovingly considered. It feels
it's a very warm game, and I really appreciate that. Yeah, like
I speak about it, it's that that actually makes me want to like maybe
think about possibly maybe doing something. Yeah, well, like the demo is
the demo. The demo is good, and it carries over to the main
game, so it's not wasted time. So if you end up play liking
the demo, well then you just carry that save over into the game after
you buy. And if you don't, well no, no, you know,
no skin off your ass. Yeah, yeah, the demo say skin
off your ass. I think that's really good. I think we should more
people should say it. Yeah, if I would have been afraid to play
this game if I didn't have the demo straight out. So, like,
if you are like I don't fucking know, just like do the demo like
in them, like you can complete that, you'll know immediately if it's for
you or not, because the lou is very simple. Yeah, I think
at least the first thirty minutes. By the after that first thirty minutes,
the tutorialization up front might make you feel like, oh, it's going to
be talking to me like this the whole game. It's like, no,
once it gives, once it presents you the loop, it's gonna mostly set
you free to enjoy that loop. Mm hmm. Yeah, it's a it's
a really spectacular game. Yeah, I really enjoy it. And it's uh
one of the easiest games to one percent, not because the difficulty levels loon,
which you know it is, but just because it's so encouraging in one
of making you want to play. Yeah, it makes you want to just
like see that next thing, and it feels manageable. Honestly, Like the
two best games the one dred percent probably came out this year, Spider Man
two in this Yeah, like just so easy to do both those games.
What is it? What is it about Spider Man two that made me be
like, yeah, I'll fucking do it all of it. I think I
think it's mostly a them responding to the criticism of Spider Man one being like,
no, man, I don't really need to do fight five crimes in
every single one of these blocks in your entire city, don't be crazy,
And they're like, you know what, you're right. We're gonna give you
like maybe ten of all of these little tasks that we built for this game,
and once you do that, you're good. Now you could like we'll
have some other stuff for you to do. But once you've done that,
you know, yeah, we realized that this stuff's not gonna be fun the
thirtieth time, but it's still fun the ninth tenth time. Yeah, the
ninth or ten times hits. Yeah, exactly. And also there's like a
bunch of the side quests are really good, so you're encouraged to go explore,
you know, like the music side quests and our thing is freaking awesome.
Yeah, yeah, that's all that stuff. It just like all feeds
back into itself. So I was a little more down on Spider Man two
than our people, but I didn't like just exploring the city was actually my
favorite player of that game. There's something about that game that I think they
really did find ever since Morales, they really did find like a good groove
of not overwhelming you and it. I mean, there's definitely more stuff to
do in two, but it still feels peppered in uh careful enough that it
isn't this thing that you just roll your eyes at, right, because it's
because a lot of times it's like, Okay, I got into a side
quest and now it's like its own little mini campaign with its own rewards,
but like you feel like you accomplished something in the fiction of the world.
Yeah, I would have going through a little museum that teaches you about music,
and it's like, fucking Christ, this is this is awesome. This
is all like actual, real, true ship and I'm having a great time.
The rock Steady Batman's did that really well? Moving into where you're like,
oh, I mean Riddler trophies like changed every trophy writ large. Yes,
absolutely, Yeah, you know so I think that's like, uh,
you know, taking the best kind of uh notes from from that implementation and
making it work. Yeah. Like I'm still playing that game. I still
think. I still think it looks so goddamn good. It's ridiculous, Like
it's weird. I I play it sometimes like far away on a on a
TV, and then sometimes I'll play it like right in my face and it's
just bananas, like when you really just get stuck. I play it high
a lot, and I just feel like, yeah, that's what I was
getting at, and you're just like looking at it and you're just sort of
like, oh, is that like the reflection of the Yeah? Cool?
There was there's a shot where my spoilers sorry, Miles gets a new suit
he's get in the Spider Man game. Was it the daft Punk suit he
has? Because that's pretty cool? The daft Punk suit is good. No,
when Miles like gets his his his suit, his suit, that is
like he's like, I'm gonna go make a suit his final story suit.
There's a bit where where he's got these fucking ugly ass Adidas forty x's one
of my favorite shoes, but when he puts his weight down on the on
his feet, the shoes compress, and I was like, you motherfucker.
Yeah, what kind of budget allows for that? Yeah the hair suit whereas
hair is out for some reason. But yeah, that game looks unreal.
Like if if video games always looked like this, I would lose my mind.
Yeah, it's like, oh they almost can't Like, yeah, the
world couldn't handle it if they all looked that good. But that's like the
thing, like these days we get to a World place. You're like,
man, I can't wait for that next generation of consoles where ever game's gonna
look like the Last of Us part too. It's like, oh, homie,
you oh, you don't get it, do you. It's not you.
It has nothing to do with the power. It's the budget. It's
a budget. It's the budget, like they had the budget to make that
look like like that on the PS four. That's the difference back then.
Then. That's not going to suddenly change because we have more powerful hardware.
It's the budget. Yeah, what uh, what else does anyone playing?
I I know, I know. We could say we're playing Prince of Persia
and yeah, nothing about it. We could say that, yeah, we
might have might have some extra codes that we'll be able to get you.
So okay, yeah, it's maybe the game that we will talk about a
lot here in the next couple of weeks. But that's all we can say
right now is that we're playing. I guess we could talk about like,
hey, it runs nice. They confirm that themselves. It runs great everywhere,
and guess what, it runs great everywhere, So yes, confirm what
they confirmed publicly already. You can kind of not worry about that, so
wherever you are planning to play it, yes, you're gonna be fine,
but that's it's been taking up a lot of my gaming time. That so,
and next week will be able there you said next week, I think
the next I couldn't remember exactly when the embargo was. Yeah, it's the
eleventh, so oh perfect. We could say, I'm just looking at like
what we can actually say, like all the things that are in the green
text columns and green uh yeah, PCR. We'll talk about that on the
next week. Could be like we'll do a review for the next BombCast Revenge,
so totally. And the and the cool thing is like we're all playing
it on different platforms I feel like, right, like so so that's cool.
It's it's film, Steam and PC and I'm playing out on the Asis
rog ally things like that. So yep, we will. We'll have a
lot to talk about that with that game. That's not gonna be the first
big game of the year, and then it's kind of going to start up
again here through January and February. There's a handful of games that will be
popping off, like a Dragon Wentz Tacking and it's like twenty six I believe
Yeah, twenty six damn crazy. I know. It's like it's like they
haven't stopped, you know. I think, uh, I do think,
Like there is this weird thing that happens at the end of a calendar year
where I just sort of like look back and I'm like, I'm looking at
my list and I'm just like a sorry, guys, you didn't make it,
Like you just just didn't just couldn't help you out. You know,
I couldn't. I couldn't touch you. And now that December is January,
you are no longer qualifying for my time, and it's fucked up. Like
I've yeah, I gotta change that habit, I think. But that's because
Sean decided like he's fully one. That's exactly why I'm embracing that. I'm
just like, nah, So if I have like no or yeah, if
I have nothing lined up, if I have like just intense downtime for whatever
reason, like if there's a lull in the summer or whatever, I'll go
back and I'll see like, Okay, what games did I not get around
to last year? But otherwise I'm just like, man, I'm I'm gonna
play Prince of Persia I'm gonna play back in. I'm gonna play Persona just
as these games come out. I'm just not gonna worry about anything. And
then if I have downtime, I'll get back to some of that stuff.
Yeah, yep, Live your life, Fridle Fantasy seven to two? Is
that? Is that? This? The next one is next month, Nikki?
Because Square Enix they're being uh, they're being sly over there. They're
releasing on February twenty ninth. Really, so that way weary in four years?
Yeah, weirdos. I don't know anything about Square Nicks, but I
know they love number. Shit. Man, the marketing is going wild for
that game. You see the green comet that's gonna come our way like crazy,
dude, Well they should send it into space. They got there's billboards
and stuff here in LA. They're launching a comet. You can do that.
Yeah, if we do anything, now, that's that's cool. I
think that's cool. Yeah, all right, is anyone else playing anything or
should we take a break and get to the featured topic of the episode.
Let's do that. Yeah sounds good. Okay, all right, we'll be
right back. We're gonna talk about some things of note. As you do
at the top of every year. Stick around and we shall be right back.
Welcome back to BombCast Revengeance. Uh, there's a colon in there somewhere.
I'm sure there's four of them, at least on this show. Yeah
the b I can add Collens wherever you guys want. I'll make it happen.
That's good, it's gross. Uh. Jeff Grubb describe what we're gonna
be we're gonna be doing here at the magazine feature of this episode. Yeah.
Yeah, So Beck like, hey, we need a topic for this
week. Why don't we just do a prediction episode, like official predictions for
the year. So I figured, like to keep it easy. We'll probably
mostly stick to the big three, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, But if
you guys want to throw anything spicy in there, feel free. Uh,
we got we got the live chat here. You know. If you guys
have a specific prediction you guys want to ask us about, use to ask
a question. But we'll see if we can get to any of those.
Uh. But yeah, what we're gonna do is we're gonna make some predictions,
safe predictions and then outlandish prediction predictions for each of these companies. So
something like, you know, if we want to be like, oh,
the switch to might happen. That feels pretty safe at this point. What
else do you have in your back pocket that you would either really want to
see or you think would be could happen. It could be really out there
still though, So yeah, where should we start. Let's start with what
I think is like the most uninteresting company right now? Sure? Yeah?
Would you let's see if you guys think the same company is as uninteresting as
I. We're all going to say at the same time. Ready, sure,
yeah, three two one most interesting? Very proud of him? What
just happened? We all said different things, that's what does that happen?
And also different things I said, I said, Sony, Oh yeah,
I think that's the correct answer. Actually, it's okay. I think that's
the most interesting because it's the most unknown. But what you are does this
lean into your prediction at all? Jeff Or? Yeah, well it does
because I just think I I just I don't really see a tremendous amount of
like first party stuff necessarily on the horizon, right, I mean, maybe
I'm looking over things. Well, do you think it's possible that we like
they've been very quiet because they're gonna have big surprises this year, Like,
isn't that possible? Sure, sure, I just know either. But I'm
I'm like, that's my optimistic stance, is that they've been quiet for a
long time, and that just means we'll have even more to be excited about
when they finally start talking again. I like your thinking, it's wishful.
I think I also think, like, to me, the most hype about
that company right now is a PS five pro, which people are essentially just
like wheeling into existence, and it doesn't feel time for one. From my
position, I think like you are trying to juice something that doesn't need to
be juiced at the moment. Calm down, you horny little weirdos. Juice
Like, why do you want to spend five hundred dollars again, you fucking
morons? Like relax, just just relax. Why are you so eager to
give five hundred dollars or your money? You couldn't find a PS five for
four years and now you're like, well it's time for a pro. Here
we go. Take here's my wallet. Take what you think I should have
back, Like, I'm like, mostly just entirely on the same page.
With you. I think people will argue, I'll just trade in my PS
five and that'll get like me, like three hundred dollars of the way there.
I'm like, okay, whatever, I'm like, like, you're right,
I mean, and to be fair, that's why they do it.
They do it because they can keep the prices high by putting out new hardware,
and we kind of I don't know. I think we saw the results
of it the last generation and it just didn't make that much of a difference
at the end of the day. I suppose it was nice to have a
handful more games running at a high frame rate. Yeah, that's what I
got out of it. I'm I'm happy that I was able to pill for
an Xbox one X off of the fan out of the fan Bite office right
before the pandemic so I could go free control. And then the world shut
down. And do I still have that Xbox one X? Maybe? Maybe?
Who's to say, who's to fucking say? But like, yeah,
I don't, I don't. I nobody. Here's the thing that I really
don't understand. Nobody owns nobody, which is to say, very few people
own televisions good enough to have a PS five or an Xbox Series X look
as good as those things can do. So why are you going to try
to buy your your TV at home? Probably just goes at sixty fucking hurts.
Yeah, well, here's the thing. The way, like, if
you look at Luayn, Nintendo's done it in the past, right, they
see that who buys our hardware? You know that, you know, at
least at first, who's the people that spend the most money on our hardware,
at least the ones they don't wait for a price drop ever, and
it is the same hardcore audience. So what they do is, let's make
new hardware for these idiots. That idiot's name being Jeff Grub, and we'll
just get him to buy it over and over again, and then he'll do
something with this old ones. He'll sell it to someone else. He'll hand
it to a nephew or something like that. And then now we got we
made more money by selling another piece of hardware to an idiot. And then
he is going to increase our install base because he's probably gonna give our hardware
to someone else as well, the old hardware. So like, and that's
I think all these companies recognize that the best people to continue to monetize at
all times. Is the most hardcore of the most hardcore, But it's it's
how big is that audience? Like how much that huge? But they will
spend a lot of money. They do spend a lot of money. That's
like the top ten percent of the people in like the PlayStation xbox audience probably
spend a significant amount of the money on these platforms. I mean, like
the majority of people are not rich, right, we know this will be
true, right, So it's like, I just I don't know. I
need to like see more of that. I want to dig deeper on that
to really like understand what's going on that leads me to where I'm at actually,
because I want to know the why of the PS five Pro because at
this point we basically know it to be a thing unless something ractically changes.
And there's always a y for this hardware. You know, people are like,
you know, rich people are gonna do rich people stuf. They're just
gonna buy a new hardware. Sure, but there's always at least a justification
for it. Like what was for the pro? What was it like for
PS four pro? It's four K tvsky back. Yeah, you know,
in the PS three era. The entire point of the PS three was blue.
Right, there's always like Sony in particular, since they have their own
stack. Yeah, exactly, there's always a reason. So I'm wondering,
like, what is the reason for PS five pro And I wonder if maybe
it's gonna be a slight pivot and may they lean because we've heard about this
ray tracing stuff maybe being better than ever and made that niator. Yeah yeah,
so maybe they're just gonna lean hard into that and say this is something
that you can't really get on your PS five either. And that's like rough.
I think that's a rough position to be in because the ray tracing buzzword
has already failed. It does not work as a marketing term. And then
if you're if you're the is going to be like, well, we do
really good machine learning image reproduction. It's like that space is kind of already
owned by d LSS and it doesn't feel like a great buzzword anymore. And
then to what end it's like, okay, so we can upscale to eight
K TVs that people definitely don't have, and s a K is also a
bad buzzword because people have recognized now I cannot tell the difference between a lot
of people are going to tell you, I can't see the difference between four
K and ten ADP. Everyone can't see the difference between eight K four K.
There you and Jason, we're talking about this this morning. Of like
a lot of people are like, I can't tell the difference with ray tracing,
even though if you show someone screenshots, you have to be educated enough
to like a bad buzzword though, if you have to be educated about it
exactly, and that's why it's not great for which is why I'm wondering,
like what what is the justification going to be? Because what letters are you
going to put on the box? Because because I just looked at the I
just looked at the PlayStation five box recently because I was throwing it into the
garbage can and it has eight K on it? For what? Oh it
does it just k on? That's crazy? Waiting Series X processor has eight
K etched onto it? What do you mean? Like, if I'm not
mistake going to fucking get there? The PS five also doesn't even support AK
output yet it's still not there or did they do that? I thought I
thought it did it? Like but like a lower frame rate. I thought
it was like thirty frames per second eight K. I thought it just like
literally the ability of hookup to an ak TV never came. I could be
wrong about that. I thought that was still just like I mean, like,
who's even able to try that? Exactly? That's the thing you can't
go about because you don't have an a k TV, none of us.
I mean, it reminds me so much of like UH, and the timing
of it is perfect with CS here, like this is all CS is.
And I still think at large, the UH, the tech marketing hive mind
sees people as just like big number, be happy, like a bigger number,
bigger pro thing. It's got a plus now, and like I think
for the majority of transactions, like that's enough to get people over the finish
line. I really do think so, you know, with their spending,
right, maybe it is really the thing that's ultimately going to bottleneck, whether
or not you know, someone like converts on something like that. But it's
just as simple and as stupid as big number, you know. So,
and this is maybe maybe we're stumbling on a better way to have these discussions.
There are big things that we know are coming down the line, and
maybe we could just kind of air how we feel about all this stuff.
Right now we're talking about the PS five pro. Let's just do a few
more questions on the PS five pro. Beck, are you said five hundred
dollars? There's a chance this thing's five fifty or six hundred? Cool?
Go spend it you have? Okay, So over under. Let's I'm gonna
set the over under at like what is it? Five on one? Is
where five hundred one dollars is over? I guess I think over also?
Now then you know I just threw out five hundred there just to make a
joke, But yeah, I think this is a north of five hundred.
It has to be over because they're not going to make the PlayStation five cheaper,
right Usually when they put it, they put it on sale a bunch
of times, but they're not going to officially drop the price. Yea,
MSRP is not going to go down, so like it has to, it
has to be over, Greb. If you have a memory of this better
than I do. PlayStation Direct has never reduced the price on PS five.
I believe. I believe that has all been retailing. Oh yeah, that
sounds right. Yeah, so it has to be a five ninety nine machine,
like totally, yeah, I think so. And this thing probably will
be like primarily available through direct at first. I mean you could try to
get it through retail. I'm sure the cost. I can't remember the leaks
chat feel free to chime in with helping here, maybe, Sean, maybe
you remember is the PSI the PSI pro is gonna have the disk drive?
Still, right? I think I think so? Yes? Okay, so
yeah, then at that case, I'm with you guys over. I think
it's probably six hundred dollars. I think it's six hundred bucks. I don't
think higher than six. I think six is the cap. Oh yeah,
yes, definitely, And if you get it well, because some people are
saying like seven hundred and I'm like, I don't think they could go away
with that. The number seven definitely won't be in there, I guess.
But also no way got chance. And it's like five ninety nine seems like
the most that, uh, the average person would not even the average person,
the high end consumer who wants to spend this amount of money is going
to spend on a piece of electronics to put in their home system. Yeah,
okay, so then we get a PS five Pro. It's six hundred
dollars, probably launches much later this year, probably over the holidays. What
what game do they pair it with? Like they're they're probably gonna want to
have something to go right away with it. I fucking know it already.
Fucking Destruction All Stars too, NAC three. Yeah, Destruction All Stars two
an Act three, that's all they fucking need. What's the ear game?
Or maybe that was never a game? Maybe you just take a picture of
pictures. Oh yeah it does, Mark Serni being a weirdo. Yeah,
you just needed anyway. By the way, they did implement that to the
not the PlayStation headphone stuff, but the I think it was the end zone
stuff. Actually end zone stuff. They moved it over there. It's kind
of funny. Yeah, but not like this Bloodborne remastered. Yeah, that
would for sure. Honestly, it's probably one of these new Horizon projects,
right that was the best selling game apparently ever is the Horizon Uh so uh,
you know that's obviously after a lot of sales and stuff. But they
believe in Horizon. So maybe yeah, like Horizon MMO project Ready Ago or
something like that. Would that be from a different studio because we did get
the VR game last year for Yeah Too. I think they're working with a
different studio on on that. I just I just say that because Horizon seems
to be their big thing right now, so I feel I figured they maybe
want to pair up something like that. But and like something from Naughty Dog's
probably not going to be ready, so they've already done all the remakes at
this point, so I think are we in the crazy predictions slot? Maybe?
I think maybe Sony Pictures announces a Horizon motion picture this year. Yeah,
they are making a TV show, but I wouldn't be surprised that they
may also plan to make a movie. Oh yeah, they should do something
with that. I think maybe that would be more interesting to me because the
act of playing those video games is to me like pulling my own teeth out,
Like you couldnot you you couldn't pay me to want to play those games
for longer than like fifteen minutes. Our Wolves and Chain points out, And
this is actually might be right because we've heard this rumor it could be the
Horizon one remaster for Yeah, because they're going to do that finally, Oh
God, tell me say something. I couldn't want. Yeah, like me,
me and Mike did a podcast here and I we are We're talking about
the Dead Space remake, and we were like, you know, more of
this is probably actually a good thing. When it's something older, something less
accessible, bring that up is always a good thing. But of games that
came out in the past, like five ish years, it's just like,
come on, you know, what are we doing. Everyone who wants Horizon
has it, like that's already played it, Like, yes, I don't
know. The newest ones of the of that game are identical to the first
experience. It's not like this game is evolved in a way that people were
like, wow, look at the look at the journey Horizon has been on
you know, Like, no, it's the same game. I don't know.
All right. So then before we get completely office Sony, what is
the state of psv R two by the time we are at the end of
this year in the trash can I think, I think they I think they
release official PC support. I think it goes down by fifty dollars, and
then I think they say we're good on it. Actually, yeah, it's
gonna be the state of PSBR one and the Vita before it's in the second
year where they're just like, oh, this was a hit, put on
life support and then we're just out of here. Yeah, yeah, like
it's too late. It's so nuts that they launched that thing with no like
with not like one triple a Sony game. I think it's the most underdiscussed
shocking thing that they did in the last five years. Yeah, how how
did that happen? So again, like this is how I've heard it goes
down at Sony these days. Is Sony Proper, not PlayStation, not Sony
Interactive Entertainment. It's really hot and horny for hardware that they love. But
yeah, and they're like that's that end zone stuff. They're like, hey,
we're gonna ride your coatails with this en zone shit, so get ready.
PlayStation PlayStation is like, come on, guys, we have our own
stuff with all these downs, all right, whatever, And what I've heard
is it was Sony really new PSVR two. For whatever reason, it's like
love making hardware because it's good because they yeah, and they used to make
a ton of TVs and like their TVs don't sells well anymore. These make
a ton of cameras. The cameras don't sell so well anymore. It's like,
well, put all that those engineers on this stuff instead, but slap
PlayStation on your on your work and it's going to sell. It's like,
man, PlayStation is a very delicate thing where it's like that audience has very
specific expectations and PSVR two is just not meeting them because the people I think
really behind that effort doesn't really care to meet them. It'sn't even thinking about
that. They're just like, hey, this is a we are just using
the resources we have to do something and putting PlayStation on it. And that's
what that project end up ends up feeling like, so, yeah, their
cameras really not sell well, I mean their cameras are they're pointing shoots they
used to be. But also like, yeah, their phones don't sell anymore.
But I feel like their SLRs are like dominant in that. Yes,
but that is not making money for them in the way that it's making Yes,
Sony's making their money actually in the mormal imaging space. Sony makes their
money off of selling phone sensors. Yeah, yeah, totally, and then
they'll just put those into whatever fucking phone. Right. They have a couple
of good business like they also I think working, well, no, this
is Samsung. I'm completing that, okay. So yeah, they sell the
phone, phone sensors for cameras, and then the business that really makes the
money is PlayStation, and that's kind of it these days. They people always
point out they have a pretty big insurance business selling insurance in Japan. Yea,
even that it's not making a ton of money for them anymore. So
yeah, it's like that's why everything kind of circles back to PlayStation, and
it's why play station seems like, hey, you're on top, why are
you kind of acting like you're in a corner, like raising prices on everything
and like looking for advantages to like nickel and dime. It's like, because
they got to make that money. But that's always been Sony's mom, And
I was, yeah, they like when they're in first, they get cocky.
Yeah, it's always it's Hubris. Yeah, like they just they're they're
like, there's nothing we can do wrong, and it's like, well,
if you look at your own history, folks, the last time you were
in this position, things went pretty bad for you. It's just really weird.
But I think the thing is like they don't have like in Xbox three
sixty is not waiting in the wings, right, Like Microsoft is not going
to come out with something this year that is going to shift the tides such
that we are having a different conversation about them. But I do think I
transition to Microsoft because of that. But yeah, we finish your thought,
please, that's it. I just think that they get really cocky, but
I think the the odds of them getting bitten in the ass for it are
low now. I just think it just like turns into complacency if it would
have to just be a like series of disappointing like their most most hard core
fans and they like right now the fans are antsy about the lack of first
party announcements, but they're not like it's it's not hurting Sony yet. That
would take a very long time I think before they got to that point.
Those fans are worried about, hey, oh, you're shifting all this all
these resources to live service games, but they are giving them the benefit of
the doubt, especially like hey, Spider Man two, we really did like
that. Actually, so absolutely so Microsoft isn't going to have a pro this
year of their own sounds like they basically said that explicitly. I think that's
all right, So then sure, what do they have this year? How
do they kind of get on top of their own narrative a company that has
you know, I think it was like, hey, we're waiting for Starfield,
We're waiting for Starfield, and then Starfield comes out, It's like it's
got It is a bag, like a very mixed bag, to use a
cliche, and that has that led to it's like, okay, well that
wasn't the answer, So then is that now the next game going to be
the answer. It's the same thing for Microsoft as always, right, We'll
just wait to the next thing. And when are they going to get out
of that rut? Yeah? Go ahead, Nikki. I was just gonna
say, I wonder if the Xbox solution for this year is actually not software,
if it's hardware. I do think that they should release a PlayStation portal
style thing like that that roadmap leaked right and there was there were no handhelds
in there, and how up to date that is hard to say, right,
but I do think that there is a two hundred dollars sweet spot where
they just get an Android phone off of some white label and then slap controllers
on the side of it, and they're like, listen, you can play
most of the games that are like switch Path, like switch Power Level will
run natively on this thing. And then yeah, I think I think it's
really important that some of those games run native. And then some of the
bigger ones either you stream from your big Xbox or stream from x cloud or
whatever. But like, I think that is probably their move because I don't
what are they gonna do least another fucking Halo, Like no, Like,
I don't know. It really is troubling and weird. I think in their
effort to like, you know, become this you know, gobbling up all
these developers and all this literally a decade of it now of them just being
like, well, buy you when we're gonna grab you, and like,
obviously that hasn't. I mean, they're like the Yankees, right, Like
they buy all the best players and they fail to win the World Series time
and time again. Yep. And that started in twenty eighteen, just to
point that out, twenty eighteen when they start started buying stuff. Yeah,
when they really started buying a ton of stuff obviously. Okay, so no,
they bought Minecraft and stuff before that. But this like current generation of
like buying a ton of studios really kicked off a twenty eighteen with those five
studios. I think, okay, so the better part of a decade then,
yes, And I think, uh, there is something I don't know,
like what's the disconnect where Sony is able to pretty much consistently and reliably
nail blockbuster first party stuff time and time again and Microsoft continuing to basically,
uh, you know, fumble at the goal line. I mean, Starfield
was not the flop that Red Fall was. Oh certainly not, certainly not,
but but it wasn't what starter Field needed to be. Though it clearly
was, yes, exactly, it wasn't the answer to all of xboxes problems,
which is kind of how I think fans were positioning it and really hoping
it to be. I mean, I think it comes down like a lot
of it's timing, a lot of it is the the commitment to seeing through
contracts, Like they put out a series of pretty good games that came out
for PlayStation, like Death Loop, like came out of PlayStation like oh okay,
so like that we're just not going to count that one for you,
sorry, Like that that the problem is the Xbox games, right, So,
yeah, you put out an Xbox game on PlayStation, you're just not
going to get credit for that. Sorry, they have, but like I
don't want to discount what they do have going for them, right, they
have the best value in gaming for my for my money. I still think,
and I think the development like that the approach that they've taken where they've
had, like people are pointing out High Fi Rush last year and I Pentiment
the year before, where they're letting these studios try other things that are smaller
that is not happening at PlayStation. If anything, they are eliminating that by
getting rid of japan studios and things like that. So and you know,
I think people are like, why is Microsoft doing this? And we're wasting
resources on that instead of doing the big games. It's okay, Yeah,
they still Microsoft has a problem matching Sony's big Triple A output, sure,
but they are making a lot of different kinds of games in a way that
feels more sustainable long term. And now that we're getting this point where like
hearing Spider Man three is going to be three hundred and fifty million dollars or
something like that it's kind of looked like maybe that was the right choice all
along, finding a way to build a brand on a bunch of different,
slightly smaller games and having stuff like CF Thieves that can last for ten years
and be really successful for a very long time. It's like, I think
Sony would kill for a C Thieves, right, Yeah, So there's a
foundation there. I think the problem here is the perception that what Xbox is
doing is wrong and what Sony is doing is right right, because Grub brought
this up there day on one of the shows where he was like, it
does feel like PlayStation has won the console war going on right now, but
now what like what does that get you? Whereas, yeah, what does
that make exactly? Like core gamers don't want to acknowledge them Microsoft expanding in
the way that they have been into streaming, into mobile, into all these
different types of experiences. That is what the future of gaming is. It
is, you know, all of us playing our games on our PCs or
a high end Xbox consoles, but also the more casual people just firing up
a streaming game, We're just firing up a mobile game or whatever. And
like, I guess that kind of plays into what Nikki said about like a
handheld and stuff like that. First of all, I would like to use
this platform to say, hey, everyone who's saying Series S handheld literally never
going to happen because it's physically impossible. The polery is out there, and
something that lasts longer than like ten minutes on a bat yea, what we're
getting. We're getting like the fifty seven hundred US, the very popular chip
that's in a lot of stuff right now. There's some others along that line.
Uh, And it's like that it's a really amazing efficient chip, and
it's just so far away from a Series S R. The idea of being
able to like slap US an S down into something that size and then being
able to have the same experience, because that's what people are hoping for,
right They want they don't want to like skip. They see the Series S
and they're like, oh, this is like the size of my stick them
on. So anyways, that's a little bit on the side. But I
think that's because if a lot of people aren't looking at what Microsoft is doing
with partnerships on like mobile controllers and stuff, you know, the kind of
like a backbone they slap onto your phone. That is like part of their
strategy right there, is to get you know, you can sell someone a
one hundred dollars backbone through a partnership, get them on game pass. Boom,
you got on our game pass subscriber, and we know that's what they
constantly want. And that's why I think they have a good strategy as not
a traditional strategy. So people are looking as like, oh, you're failing,
right, but they're looking at the numbers like, nah, dude,
we're good, Like this is working, and I like that it's different.
I like that it isn't what Sony is doing. I think I think it's
better for everyone that they have these sort of competitive and differing strategies, and
I think I think they're good. They're gonna We're gonna get to later this
year and people will be like, oh my god, the PS five pro.
What is Microsoft going to do? And I think Microsoft's position is going
to be and if they're smart, they build a market, get out of
this, get a PC. Yeah, it's more powerful than that PS five
pro already and it's just gonna get more powerful. And in a couple of
years, we're gonna we are gonna have a news console in a couple of
years, and that's gonna come way before a PS six seems like it might
come, and so we'll leap frog them then with that hardwork. That's what
you care about. But for now, get a PC. It's it's been
more powerful than what the PS five's pro is gonna be right alone, they're
gonna be. But I think they're literally saying, get a PC and play
Last of Us one, like you know, do that. It's so but
it's so strange that like they are. It feels like Xbox has in the
past been afraid to offer the personal computer as a part of their suite because
they you know, they don't control the store, right not yet, Why
do they just make a personal computer? And like this this this has been
in the back of my fucking head literally for six years, because the idea
that there is not an Xbox PC that I can go into Target and buy
that runs Windows, that like I can like dual boot into an Xbox interface
and into a Windows interface. And you sell this to people and you're like,
hey, do you know how you go to school and you want to
play video game and you also have to do computer work? Because you maybe
edit video or edit photos or whatever, you're some sort of like learning how
to be a creative person. It is so nuts to me that there is
not a seven hundred dollars PC that is Xbox branded that does all of these
things and also can run Photoshop and the Adobe Suite, like maybe change the
name or something, but like a surface Xbox yeah, like yeah, like
yeah, like some I did think that's where they were headed at some point.
So I thought they're felt like that was coming. Like we said that
they're not gonna like put an Xbox piece of hardware into a handle form factor.
But what if they made their own Steam Dex style handheld and it is,
you know, plays off of what they've accomplished with. It has a
good version of Windows that's made for handheld, which is something that they've been
talking about. Like so yeah, what if that's where they actually do where
it's like, yeah, this is your PC. You can just plug into
a dock and then it does run your Xbox stuff, has the Xbox app.
Yeah. That's the beauty of their strategy is that's so open ended,
and that's why I actually like that. Like Backler said, it's different,
it's different. Yeah, let's they hit a couple more things on Xbox before
we do a quick Nintendo round up that the games. So we didn't talk
much about like what Sony's gonna have for games this year because we just we
really don't know on the game this morning. This morning, me and Jason
talked a little bit about Ghost of Sushima two. Maybe come along Ghost two,
that that could happen. We have no idea. We'll probably here soon.
They got a lot of third party stuff coming though, so they're gonna
be just fine. Xbox has has a ton of games already announced, starting
with help A two, which probably will come out this year. Uh,
but what else do you guys like from like Perfect Dark Baby? Yeah,
avowed, where's that? I'm excited about that whenever it does come out,
If it does probably this year, it's gotta right. I think it's that's
a possibility. Gotta all these fucking games gotta come out this year, right,
because it seems like it didn't come out last year? Yeah, Like
where's Skates Story? Where's that at? Yeah? Show me that one?
Where's that that one? Mega Blocks Halo game? Yes? That put that
ship out? I think those ones are the most likely we should get updates
on Perfect Dark. That's probably still a year away at least. Uh.
Okay, okay, what's the one that had the steely Dan music in the
in the trailer Contraband, Yeah, I would like to see something really at
this point. You give me hell Blade two, which I don't know if
I'm gonna love. I don't really love hel Blade one, but it looks
nice if you put hel Bay two out, and you put out like some
games like do some shadow drops equivalent to high Fight Rush, and then you
get About out this year, and as long as these games are solid,
that's a pretty good year, as long as we also get updates on all
of these other previously announced games. Yeah, I kind of felt that way
last year and we didn't do much a bit. So yeah, Fable right
exactly, And to be fair, we saw About and Fable at Summer Game
Fest last year. So they have that one that was Yeah, so one
of the chat points out you know what, they do have potentially a big
game for the year called Call of Duty. Yeah, they're gonna be fine
in terms of making money now absoutely they're gonna make a lot of money from
video games, but reasonably speaking like a Microsoft Call of Duty is not coming
until twenty twenty seven. Uh, like I mean, you know, don't
begin to be able to catch those checks, you know. Oh no,
yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure. But I
mean, like like a one that is not dictated by the calendar that activision
has been running, Like Jack Call of Duty game is not coming out one
this year, he's still under the PlayStation contract. I think, yeah,
and then that'll be the last one. I think. I can't remember.
Yeah, Candy Crush two. Is that that's them? Now? Maybe it
is. They will be making a lot of money from video games. Yes,
all right, Nintendo, Uh, we're I mean, we're all expecting
a Nintendo Switch follow up this year. It would be with this. Yeah,
they put the Super Nintendo Switch. Sounds really good to me, man,
I agree, seems like that's the most log like just just do like
I think it applies everything they want to imply about it. I think,
yeah, and it's the same. It's a safe one. It doesn't feel
like it doesn't feel like we you where It's like it was confusing because you
have so many people who understood what a Super Nintendo was versus a Nintendo exactly,
so I would love it, but because it's so obvious, it feels
like they probably will, but don't you want so? But so are we
all because no one calls I mean, I guess, I guess you do
call it a Nintendo switch, right, but you call it shorthand, you
call it switch called the switch. Yeah, so what are we saying,
like the super you don't want to do that, call it a super yeah,
but then like a shorthand, you could just be like SNS two,
which is okay, yeah, you don't want to do super switch. Yeah,
yeah, because I was I was trying. I was, I literally
for fifteen minutes yesterday, kept saying super Nintendo switch, Nintendo super Super.
You're just saying yeah, over and over, try to activate myself. But
it didn't work because people will call it a suit like. That's the fear
is if you call it super Nintendo switch, people are just going to start
to call it super switch. Yeah yeah, and that doesn't sound great.
You're right, it's like many syllables. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
I mean, listen, and I think they also would be like the alternative
is super Nintendo, and we don't want people doing that either, because we
don't want we want to keep the trademarks and very distinct and clear right and
don't make things feel generic. Why it could just be super Switch because the
nameline old platform is super Nintendo on the actual console says super Nintendo in all
big layers like they want you to call it super Nintendo, and then the
rest in the smallest things possible. Chat you keep dropping your name suggestions,
and I'll ask these guys, what the how they likely they think it is
the new Nintendo Switch. That's that's what it's going to be. Here's what
I think. It's very unlikely that that's what it is, because that would
imply it is just a pro model, and it's not. It's not going
to be a proble, or at least theyn't want position as a pro model
anymore. So I think they're afraid of that. Yeah, like none of
this switch plus none of this, Like well okay, what about switch to
No, I don't think they're going to be a number in it. That's
what they've never done number, yeah, other than sixty four. Yeah,
but sorry, I'm sorry, but that's not that's not the that's not me
being like, oh you got it's like, oh that was a weird thing
that like everything was into at that moment in Gay what was what was the
the code name for the switch was it NX, And it was yes,
n X, Yes, that's right. And then the code name for the
WEU was cafe. Is that right? Oh? How do you know?
Are you just flexing that? You know? I'm just flexing. It's one
of the situations where I'm like, asking these things is a question to show
off that I remember these things. You want to be games Jeopardy, you
want to But the thing they were, those things were instructive about, like
towards the the experience that Nintendo was trying to do. Right, Yeah,
this thing is redundant. Ideally they're not doing anything new with the next switch.
It is just another one. So maybe they do just fucking slap it
two at the end of it. I don't know. I wouldn't be shocked
other than I feel like Nintendo really likes be in a position where they're naming
is so strong that it does the thing where it was like, well,
every game is gonna have sixty four in it, and every game is gonna
be like oh uh Ninja, Guiden, Dragon Sword DS. Every game is
gonna be a DS call like Colin DS, and then everything's gonna be dream
Drop Distance or whatever because it's three d's like the three DS. I think
that Nintendo is proud that their naming conventions are so strong that the other developers,
other publishers want to fit into that naming convention. So I think they
will be like, we gotta, we have to flex in that way.
But I don't know if I also don't know if that's necessarily a good idea,
because then they try to do that with the WIU and they're like,
oh, yeah, everything will just be zombie you. Yeah. It's like
you know, people say, you know, I'm looking. I'm looking around
my shelf and my games over there, and I see a few this few
Switches games that have over they're physically I'm like, you know, that's square
in the upper left hand corner. You just add a super above the That
looks like some symmetry that it would be like a dumb reason that it is
what I want. I do want to be called Super Nintendo Switch same.
I think it's easy to poke holes in it, but I also think it
makes the most sense today. And then they could call the Super Mario gets
right there. Oh my god, they're playing forty chess man. That's it.
We've got about an hour. Any other thoughts about Nintendo. I mean,
because it feels like the whole like switch to is gonna take up all
the Oxygen game. Okay, well how about this METROI okay, game Pass
game pas is going to be on switch I don't think so. I don't
think we're there twenty four. We're not there. Somebody's gotta fucking make the
backbone sucks. And here's why. I know. Listen, this is not
what this show is. The backbone fucking sucks. You know why because the
phone is too small. Yeah, phone from get on my fucking phone.
That's crazy. Make a backbone for the iPad or the iPad mini and then
talk to me. So they also like they're flexible and I hate when it
feels like to discuss like that. It's disgusting. Yes, absolutely, okay,
Metroc Prime four, I have a bet with Mike. I can't.
Oh, Mike is insane on this one. He thinks that Metry Prime four
needs to be a next gen exclusive. I'm like, you are out of
your goddamn mind. They're not going to a Metra game platform that will have
only a few million units in the first month. Like no, uh,
if if it if it primarily comes out on the current switch, he's got
to buy me Marguerite Deville. If it primarily comes out on the next switch.
I got a Margerite. That's it. An entire takes his meal at
like I tried to get them into a shaving bed and they were not having
it, trying so hard. I don't need those flashbacks. I don't need
to go back there again. The steaks are a forty dollars meal. What
are we doing. I'm gonna get a drink. I'm gonna get a couple
of margaritas. Will be sixty dollars naked? Can we poler Is back along.
It's not about the money. It's not about the money. It's the
steaks. The steaks needs to Margarita bell. We're gonna get like Coco and
stuff. I want Mike to have to, like burn a Disney item.
I want you to have to do something else as as evil. I don't
love anything as much as he loves Disney exactly. Well, that's true,
Uneven, Yeah, I said what I said. I you also really are
underestimating how much. Mike. Yeah, let's let's like, let's think about
that. I feel like it's not is it too late to change the rules
here, I mean, if you want, like it makes just I mean,
I'll escalate that that game isn't going to be a Switch one exclusive.
That's easy, come on, of course it won't be an exclusive to the
Switch. I think I think it can still be exclusive. Why I really
do, like, well, it depends on how they handle because that's the
thing that's a big thing we don't know yet is how they handle switch games
on the Switch too, because ability, I mean, is it patches or
is it seventy releases? Yeah? No, right right, right, but
no matter what, even if it's that he's here, let's hear's not here
to kick me out? Okay, what else? But someone else is so
like someone on this podcast would try to jump in like that, we don't
know. We Hey, I please talk. Someone's like, I'm not touching
anything? Right? That was nice? Oh. What I'm saying is I'll
esc like the bet happily. All I'm betting is that Metroid Prime four is
not a Switch one exclusively. That's but it's a cross release either I don't
think it's a cross release. Oh you don't think it's a cross well,
but but it's back compact to qualify under that term. Like, I don't
think it's a switch one game, honestly, I'll go that far. Okay,
yes, and I could get a switch one game. Yeah. See,
that's that's where you're right. I think when people look at it,
they will say that is primarily a switch to game. Okay, and I
think they ook at it it will be primarily a switch one Vince. No,
I'm convinced, no, no, no, no, no, I'm
on MIC's side because because you guys are crazy if they already don't give a
bit about Metroid. Yeah, but but but they've they're realistic about it,
and they're like, we need as many people as possible to sell this fucking
thing too, because no one buys Metroid selling video games, they wouldn't be
releasing a Metroid. Well yes, but that's why very means Demetro for some
reason. But yes, he's right, he's right, another fucking Pokemon game.
Like why is that matter? Yeah? Yeah, I mean they make
a lot of games still want to sell shiny and impressive. It is like
this is the hardcore game for their new console. That's why game when NINT
cared about that in the last fifteen years Prime when I can go to hell
except for back law. You're great to thank you anyways, how yeah,
keep that up. Flattery will get you everywhere. Boy uh no, But
like, what is this is the situation that dire for Metroid Metroid A completely
garbage can we give? How did for a game that probably has the budget
of Metrod Prime for It's pretty dire all right? But but like metroy Drag
comes out and sells three million copies, that's pretty good. Zeno Blade,
which is like over Bowl any other Metroid game. Oh sure, yeah,
but it's getting better yea with thirty two million units. Weird, weird life
cycle. Yeah, like Japan doesn't care about it. It's really is that
what it is? It's small, I understand. Yeah, they'd sendo game
so very well in Japan to a very small audience that they all just buy
it so very much. So the Japanese hate Metroid We're going on, don't
care. They just don't care because it was never popular over there back in
the day. It's not popular. METROI Metroid one did pretty good in Japan
and then none of the other ones did. It did very okay because it
was an FDS game. That's that's the reason why it isn't. Yeah,
like bizarre, I do want to I do want to ask one more question
on this specific topic. Yeah, Twilight is Twilight Princess a GameCube game of
a week. It's cross play. I mean people think of it as as
I think of it as a WE I think it's primarily a WEE game,
and primarily it is exactly to WE. But because it was a WE launch
people, let's be clear if they position it as a cross generation launch game
for the next system, Mike wins the best. He made that clear.
He was like he thinks people don't think of it as a switch To.
Yes, that regardless of that, I completely agree that if if it is
a cross gende game that they position as a launch game for the next system,
then Mike Manati wins the bet. Okay. So you're saying if switch
To is like the winning platform for it, if it's if it's equivalent to
and Twilight Princess, Yes, yeah, because that was my next question,
right, is like Breath of the Wild is a WEU game? Actually that
this switch, And to be clear, I think that is still relatively possible
like that that could happen. I just think there's I believe they are going
to get this game out this year for the switch, and it will be
the last thing for the Switch before they announced the switch to officially. I
think that seems right. That's that, and I know it seems kind of
it seems a little crazy to people who are like really big Metro fans because
they haven't heard anything about it in a very long time. I think they
will just sort of reset the clock on it. It's coming out in three
months. As by far the biggest Metro fan around here, I agree,
that's exactly what they're going to do. It is the fun. Did you
just say to me, oh my god, that's that was way too real
home. He and Mike don't like hearing that, like because because he says
he he hates Super Metroid. I never said that all the time to me.
He says, I hate Super Metro. I think there are games in
this series better than Super Metro. That's That's what I've said. That's wild.
Okay, Hey, what does the GIMI think about Metroid? What do
you think about Metroid? Yeah, in his fucking grave wherever he is.
All right, should we get out of your back, Lar? Yeah,
that's that's been great. I really enjoy talking with everyone about this sort of
stuff. This was a fantastic panel of predictions, both wild and completely reasonable.
Do you guys want to make any bets? Beck, you want to
show us how it's done? I just don't know what. I'm like good
to bed on here, Like, this is really not something I've ever gambled
on. In this day and age, you can type anything into DraftKings and
they'll let you spend money on it. You know that's true. Everything is
a prop bet in twenty twenty four. Here's the thing, right, I
don't feel super confident or like I don't have a horse in any race where
Like you both are clearly uh PICKit about prime for situation. But like,
I don't know what I would even feel that out? Yeah, I saw
it too, ny lock you this this is the work. This is the
fucking work. Is there going to be a Madden twenty five? In twenty
and twelve or eleven, they released as the twenty anniversary that Madden that year
was called Madden twenty five. Oh weird. I bet it's still called Madden
twenty five. Yeah, me too. I don't think it's twenty nine.
Remembers that. I'll say it's called mad in twenty five and we'll take the
bet and back if it's not called matt at twenty five. You have to
wear two pay for a day for a day. That's it. That's it.
Yeah, that's easy. What are you by your state? Okay,
no, to me, there can't be anything higher. But we can get
official pictures. Take in your new employee, idea has today with a two
payof have an employee? I need twenty four. I'm really wondering at this
point what hurts Jeff back on this man is just like, oh, yeah,
you can do it ever you want. What can we can we get
you to go out in figure skates and and do and do hockey and figure
skates. I can't, is the thing? Yeah, yeah, I can't
be. I mean I would do it as a goof maybe somewhere where someone
could record me doing that, but like there's too many safety hazards going on
there putting. I don't even know how do you even use figure skates?
They got a thing on the they got a thing on the toe, but
I can you hockey stuff? Yeah, I'm sure you can. Figure dangerous.
I don't know. I do like the two pey thing, like maybe
maybe I'll maybe I'll go to like an open skate and skate around with yeah
wire sweater. Yeah, I just like film Dibb's face as you walk in
the room. Yeah, like that'd be all right. And I'm doing this
over fucking mad in the game. I couldn't care less. If it's called
Madden twenty five, you win. You can come up with that restakes you
want for me if you if you want to hurt me, you can.
I'm very vulnerable, So go to town, Okay, can I can?
Can? I can? You're part of the bet, like your steaks be
tbd y yeah, and feel free to like take equivalent is that group?
Where's a bald cap for at least a day? Right? Yeah, I'm
not shaving my head again again, Like, yeah, I don't think that's
that's fun. What if I like the two pay and then just be like
you become a two pay guy? Remember Jason Alexander did that for like ten
months. Like I'm not bald anymore and this is me and I'm going on
the talk shows acting like I've always had hair. I mean, look,
two pays should be more accepted in fashion anyway. Oh my gosh, what
is it? What is this little that's pebbles, that's her little kitty cat
for months? Now it's up. How's it going to pay? Should be
more accepted anyway, I think, Uh, thank you for talking about this
marginalized community, you know, like it's it's Larry David as our poster child.
Uh, but you wear that like Dan Reiker got propositioned by like one
of those Turkish hair implant companies someone, Hey, come out here, We'll
pay for you to come out here. Yeah, and he's like, I
mean he thought about it, like it would be very weird to show up
with hair somewhere. No, I would I if someone could tell me,
like, hey, going to Turkey doesn't so much it is, for sure.
I have family marriages, they're better at it. Yeah, yeah,
I guess I would do that, all right, I'll do that. Well
that's literally knows a guy now. Yeah, so I would really enjoy if
I could go completely full expenses paid, I would do it, for sure,
Scout. I don't care. I miss I do miss my hair A
great deal like I don't. I feel like I feel like we can make
this happen. I miss my Send this dude to Turkey, Send me to
Turkey. I think I am Turkish too a little bit, so that would
be a double free. Yeah all right, well that's gonna do it for
Bombosces. I might be getting my hair back, and I also might be
skating around with a two peg. Literally flip a coin and you've got your
answer. Thank you so much to Jeff Grubb, to Nicki Grayson, to
Turbo Sean, everyone playing along in all the various chats. It's been a
crazy week, but we will be back next time. Hopefully jan Ochoe is
feeling much better. I have a RESTful and recovering weekend. Please we'll see
you next time. Bye bye, Steer
