Mmm, Okay, here we go. I'm gonna try this out, Okay,
live from San Francisco. Okay, all right, what do you think?
Yeah? Sure, why not? I've been working on it. I've
been working on that one for weeks, shopping that Yeah, man, Friday
to go. Yeah, here in San Francisco, we are live. Thought
about sticking an adjective in there, sunny San Francis mother, all right,
yeah, foggy today, poop covered San Francisco. That's that's accurate. That's
always accurate. That doesn't change with the weather. That's true. As long
as it's truthful. That's all. All of these things A fact based podcasts.
That's what this is, always has been, always will be. It's
uh, it's July twenty six, twenty sixteen. It is a historic day
here on the Giant bondcast. Yes, and and historic and historic okay also
grammatically correct and historic factual and grammatically correct historic. It depends on how you
cross the age, right, if it's a silent age, if you say
historic, then it would be and it's gonna be a vowel sound if you're
doing and I don't think that works. Yeah, it's but but yeah,
I think I think it sounds fancier if it's if it's historic, yeah,
historic, say herb herb. Okay, I thought that you'd like added an
age to it, so herbs herbs yeahs other words. Yeah, herb is
your uncle. Herb is what you put in your herb cells ads for the
radio station. That's correct, that's the AM radio station. Uh, we're
live, Yeah, yes, I can tell. I could tell by the
feeling in the pit of my stomach. Live on the internet. Oh man,
No, it's fun. Yeah, it's getting better by the moment,
exactly any other show. We're fine. You do that every week, and
yeah, you're live all the time. Yeah, Jeff runs that thing.
There are cameras, There are cameras pointed at us so often at this point,
I live most of my life as if we are live on the end.
You know, that's a good policy, which is actually like a bad,
horrible road to have gone down. Dance like everyone is watching pretty much
basically pretty much. Yeah, yes, we are live now. So if
you're listening to this, uh know that we are now broadcasting this podcast live
for Giant Bomb Premium members over at giant bomb dot com. But the video
version of it will also go up for everyone after the fact on YouTube and
and on the side itself, we'll we'll have links to that stuff too,
and the audio version will exist as it always has been. Nothing, nothing
will change their choice. Yeah, it's all about the choice of a new
generation, all about providing you the new generation shows video and here we are.
Yeah, okay, uh yeah, I chose pepsi. Yeah, no,
that's that's yeah. I did too. They had that fine arm motion.
Have you guys seen crystal pepsi out there yet? I heard it was
coming back, bring it back for the summer? Is it just an Amazon
thing? But it sounded like it was like a two three month engagement.
Crystal Pepsi was always was disgusting. Oh man, it was terrible. That's
not how I remember. I remember it as being like someone took like a
third of a pepsi and two thirds of a of like a sprite or a
seven up and then poured them together. Here so it's like this but no,
but like the cola flavor doesn't mix with that citru that that that kind
of clear flavor very well. It's like McDonald's people would ask for half coke
half sprite all the time. That's something that people request. Sometimes those are
bad people. It's fine. As someone who has mixed together some sodas in
his day, I will tell you those are bad people. Okay. Suicide
from suicide, we did. We did suicid so did we. I don't
know if it was a regional thing. That's that's that's everywhere. Yeah.
Yeah, I gotta go find some crystal PEPSI I need to I need to
remember. I need to know. I bought but like last year, I
bought like they put out like Mountain Dew do Shine and these fancy like moonshiny
looking bottles and stuff, and that was all real sugar and all the other
stuff. I bought one of them, uh off Amazon or something that showed
up and I'm like, oh, this is fancy, and I set it
aside and now I'm pretty sure is it's expired? Uh And I haven't touched
it. I don't know if it tastes good. It probably never did.
Yeah. So when they say now we'll see like pictures of it exactly,
yeah, I'll be selling that. Yeah. When they say real sugar,
so that comes like it's cane or it's sugar cane is where real sugar comes
from right, Okay, So that's a big kind of bamboo things or whatever,
and you get sugar out of you grind it up and it turns into
sugar. Yeah, so artificial sugar is that just purely chemicals? But well,
I mean sugar like normal sweeten. Uh, soda is sweetened with corn
syrup. Yeah right, and that's supposed to be bad for you, right,
Yeah, that's why is that bad forse? Corn's good for you?
I like corn corns great, yeah, like syrup pancakes like syrups do it
for you. But it's tasty though, I guess that makes sense. A
lot of things aren't good for you. It's corns here, literally, stuff
that comes out of like a cob of corn. Yeah, they squeeze the
one I don't know how, and then whatever drips out of it is poured
directly into the bottle. And at what point does it get unhealthy? Though?
I believe me from vegetable it isn't industrial industrially produced. You can,
okay, Like, let's back up here. Just because it's a vegetable doesn't
mean it's automatically good for you. If you eat like a zillion of them,
you will die. If you drink it off water, you will die.
Like it's this is yeah, like almonds or something. Yeah, some
poison tastes like walnuts, right, yeah, yeah, they were like apple
seeds or something. There's some seeds out there with trace amounts something. Yeah,
I saw something lately recently. There was a package of seeds too many
of these, you know, in quantities and certain concentrations. Like things change
properties, so you cannot go back to this whole like it's a vegetable.
So let's this is what a lot of people like who are like trying to
get in shape, and then then their path leads them to just like I'm
gonna go vegan, Like no, like just because you're like then you're eating
three loaves of fucking bread a day, you dumb ass, Like that doesn't
doesn't it doesn't, Yeah, exactly, So this is exactly the same as
that. Okay, I believe that I just don't understand the process of how.
I mean, we could look at charts and all that sort of stuff
and eventually figure it out, but okay, that's that's I don't know either.
If you're trying to be a healthy drink less soda, that's easy,
Hey, I'm on that. Yeah you yeah, good stuff. You're given
your bladder workout today. I see, I have not had caffeine in a
week. I've not had an alcohol in like over three weeks. Hang on
last week when you said you were off caffeine, you were telling me this
as you were sitting there drinking or green tea. Yeah, well I did
a slight taper process. Okay, yeah, yeah, like very slight.
Like I have one day where I had like a green So you're even that's
pretty much done now. Yeah, I'm not having anything at all right here,
just water. I'll have like like carbonated water or whatever. How's it.
How's it treating you? It's fine? Day. I always drowsy in
the morning. What's going on? I get headaches or I did. For
a couple of days I had headaches. But outside of some yawning and stuff,
it hasn't been that bad really, part of like the withdrawal process,
correct, Yeah, yeah, totally and I expected that. And take a
couple of Ebyprofen. You're fine. Yeah, just take Ivyprofen every single day.
I do anyway, So yeah, I'm fine. Yeah, it really
has not been bad at all. I just missed drinking it because I like
the taste of soda a lot. Yeah, Like when I have dinner,
like I want to have a coke, could get caffeine free. I mean,
I have like diet marks is caffeine free. But I also don't want
to like have ten diet marks a day, which is something I totally would
do because then I'm not having so much water. So I'm just drinking a
ton of water. Good, it's good for you. Yes, sure,
you're committed to, but I can't kill you, that's true. Yeah,
yeah, still drink too much. Like the weak contest, you're committed.
You're committed to, uh making sure your pre diabetes just not become actual.
Yeah yeah, and I can do that. I just need all that guy
is a little kick in the ass every once in a while, and then
I'll just like lose thirty pounds and run a half marathon and be fine,
Like I'm well, I lost like ten pounds in the last month, so
I'm like, yeah, yeah, I'm on the right past the record cycle.
Yeah yeah. And the taco bell and also a new menu item and
it's all over and I get one of them and I'm fine, Okay,
yeah, okay, one and done. Jeff, Hello, how's it going
good? What's new? Oh? Gosh, the all of California's on fire,
which actually I guess isn't actually that new. It seems like every every
year literal fire, it's been it's been a slow burn literal fire. Yeah,
yes, okay, yeah, is that always just someone throwing a cigarette
out there window like some smokey the bear striking. There's you know, a
bunch of things. I saw some an arsonist was caught on camera nic recently,
like last week sometimes, so at least one of them may have been
intentional. Okay, yeah, I guess there are two separate fires. So
yeah, so I'm like in the middle of like planning vacation to where the
fire is. So now we are no longer going to where the fire,
and so a lot of a lot of plans just had to change super like,
which I mean obviously, like you know, that's there are peoples whose
homes are intend Those are the people that are in real trouble, whereas we're
like, I guess we're not gonna it's getting the state park that's now closed.
It was there was a shot on the news of like an entire hillside
on fire this morning. It was like a helicopter shot and all of a
sudden there was just a giant explosion on the side. Like yeah, Star
hotels cheaper they're on fire. Yeah, that might be good for a vacation,
that's true. That's a good point. Yeah, just bring like an
air quality filter. Yeah, just because everything's burning to the ground doesn't mean
that the economy has to fall. Beautiful sunsets there we go. Yeah,
yeah, they found they found one charred corpse in a burned out car up
there far. So it sounds like cents California to me. It's getting rough.
Yeah, uh yeah, yeah, that's uh that is crazy. But
uh yeah. So I've been kind of monitoring the situation, monitoring the situation,
making some changes to some like Okay, well if we're not gonna go
there, where we're gonna go, So we're going somewhere else. Just go
to like moderate or something. There's a lot of water, that's that's where
it's Monterey County is where all this stuff is. That actually, so yeah,
I got all that water we were going to, big sir. Somebody
didn't open up the aquarium and let all the you know, yeah, put
the fire out. Yeah, yesterday they closed the all the parks. Uh,
like yesterday in the morning, called and they were like, it's only
a couple of spots in the park that have been closed. You can still
come. And then like everything looked to midday and they were like wet.
I looked at a map and like the I gud there was like the distance
between the road we would have to drive on and where the fire seemed to
be was less than like a third this part of my finger. And I
was like, okay, that's that seems like a little too close to danger.
It's a scientific way to that's I am evaluate your risk. That's h
That's exactly all I play. This is like real I'm like, fire is
this fire? Watch this map? No, I don't know what it was
it was. I don't think it was a real time map, but that
would be kind of cool just watching it burn up on that map real time.
Yeah, I mean not cool. Yeah, but that's you're going on
dangerous road. Yeah. The drought that makes these things so dangerous because all
the trains are super dry. Yeah, definitely, it's still going on right,
Like I know we had some rain for a while. Yeah, it's
still like the Congress created dust bowl is effect. I've seen the signs.
Yeah, you know, those signs have been there for decades at this point,
really yeah yeah yeah, since the actual dust Bowl yeah probably yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, So I've been kind of doing that sort of on that
stuff. Yeah, you are you cramming in any video games? Yeah,
I've been. I have been playing there it is. I've been playing star
Bound. Yeah, that's out. Yes, I guess yeah, I guess
that came right. Yeah, officially that went to one point zero and left
early access this week. No, last week, the twenty first, twenty
three years involved something like that. Yeah, finally it's finally available and in
need of a lot of work still. So I mean, like these games
always are I mean Terraria, like the number of updates that game saw a
post, like, you know, hitting their release day, like you know,
obviously, I mean, does it feel unfinished or is it just feel
like, hey, it's a good complete game, but there's still stuff to
add. There's still there's still plenty of stuff to add, and there's still
like a lot of features that I would view as kind of quality. But
like some of the interface stuff just seems clunky, and I think a lot
of that game is built on the notion that you have played other games like
that before, and so there are things about it, and things about like
the crafting system and how you get from planet to planet and and that sort
of stuff is not explained particularly well. And you know, like I played
it in early access and fumbled my way around it when it kind of first
rolled out, So there I had an inkling of like how this stuff was
going to go, and that stuff hasn't changed that much, so I was
able to figure out, like, oh, okay, here's how I get
fuel for this ship to fly it somewhere. And you know, there's a
whole there's like this whole onboarding. There's like a long series of quests that
you kind of take on before you were able to kind of leave this the
system that you're you're orbiting and go somewhere else. Uh. And but in
that process, like they don't necessarily explain so that they're not actually teaching you.
It's not no, no, not that well. They don't spell it.
Hey, you need to build a coal furnace to reach the stars,
Yeah you don't, So you don't do that anymore. Now. Now that's
that's something that's changed since since I had played it last is now the fuel
for your ships exist on moons, and so Moon's orbit. You know most
planets, uh, and that's moons are pretty much barren except for this one
element that you go there and get. But the minute you pick up any
of it, uh, there is a crazy sausage ghost that appears and has
wiggly arms and this weird butt hole looking mouth and it's slowly ghosts its way
towards you. So you're kind of like constantly running away from this thing that
will murder you, like the ski free yetti totally basically the skith thing going
on, And so you are kind of running away from this thing and mining
as much of this fuel as you can, and then you can beam out
at any time. So as soon as you get to a point where you're
like I having a fuel or this thing's uncomfortably closed, you can hit the
button and escape. So are you sure he's not trying to teach you how
to play the game? You know? I have not let him catch me.
It did just say like, maybe, hey, a spooky ghost will
come and fight you as soon as you start collecting this fuel, and then
as you as soon as you collect it, the little robot friend says like,
hey, it's it's all. It doesn't happen. Maybe maybe the tutorial
is in that hole. So it's like picking up a key in Mario too
exactly. Okay, this is like it's like a Fanto situation, except a
very slow Panto okay, which is creepier in a way. Yeah, and
the but it's a weird looking creature. I don't know. So yeah,
so that's how you get fuel. Now you can only put that element into
your ship to to fuel the ship as far as I know. Maybe there's
something you can craft later that that makes it different. But uh yeah,
so you know, I don't know. I've been playing it a lot like
Terraria, except occasionally I go to different planets because I'm trying to find these
artifacts. It's kind of like a structure to it, of like you're trying
to assemble these six keys to do something to beat back the some evil world
beat. Yeah. A couple of people have compared it to Stardu Valley on
Twitter to me, do you see any comparisons there? It's something like,
is it like space Stardo Valley? I mean, is it side scroll it's
Terraria. Okay. Have you played Terraria a little bit? I couldn't really
get into that. Have you played Minecraft? Yeah? Yeah? What if
Minecraft was side scrolling? Okay? Now, what if Minecraft was side scrolling
had spaceships? I think that's okay. What if No Man's Sky was a
two D game and had a lot more going on? That's soon, Yeah,
we'll see. Uh so yeah, Starbounds. I really like it.
Uh It's it's a solid foundation, But I think I like Terraria better.
But Terrarea is also a way more mature game in a weird way, which
is weird to say. For your almost so I'm like like a home server,
like we're like, you're playing it like a posse for Terraria. I
did, yeah, and we've been talking, like I played with one of
them for a little while. Over the weekend. We went and shot a
big ufo that was beaming penguins with assualt rifles down at us over and over
again, which is a messed up, messed up thing to have happened.
But I've mostly been playing alone. You bring that character into online and so
your ship kind of comes with you onto the internet, so you can actually
take all your crafting stations and just plant them on your ship and just kind
of kind of have a mobile base for doing all the things you need to
do, Like Okay, I need to go h you know, smelt some
or I need to go back to my ship because that's where all all the
stuff is. All my stuff is down on a planet. I have a
planet where I about a teleporter, so I can easily get there without having
to go like be back to the ship then beamed down to the planet and
all this other stuff. You can kind of get there a lot more easily
once you've built that teleporter. So I'm doing all my stuff there. But
if I was playing more multiplayer, I would definitely at least duplicate all of
my crafting stations on my ship to make that a little more easy. But
the ship's ships come with fixed designs or can you like just straight up build
new ruins on there, so manly upgrade that. So this is something I
have like nine or ten different upgrade things that the tool tip for them kind
of says it's for upgrading the ship, but I have not figured out a
way to actually upgrade the ship yet. So the ships do get bigger as
you go, but I don't know how that actually happens yet. But yeah,
you you do have some limited and you can put platforms down to create
level you know, you can you can kind of build on your ship if
you want, like restructure the interior. I take it. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, yeah, not to necessarily the shape and design of the ship.
That's that's that's the stuff that I think you have to spend the upgrade
cubes to get. Makes sense. Yeah, so you know, I probably
spent like fifteen twenty hours playing over the weekend. It's kind of like,
you know, it's a good game to just have, like, Okay,
I've got other stuff on, like oh, there's a wrestling thing on,
I'm gonna put that in this other monitor and then play star and I need
anything I can find to distract me from wrestling. Yeah, yeah, it's
it's good again, you know. Fifth it's the past two wrestlings have been
okay, which is an unprecedented street That's that's true. So don't worry.
They'll suck it up tonight. I'm sure they'll find a way. They always
do. Yeah. Yeah, so a Starbound is a great game to have
on. Like I turned the music off immediately because it was super repetitive.
But it's the sort of game where you want to be kind of maybe listening
to a pop It's a good podcast game. It's a good podcast, like
this podcast for example. Uh yeah, So I don't know that. That's
mostly what I've been doing. I've been looking at some of the other stuff
that's coming out, like I really want to play Quadraze Cowboys. Time to
play that? Did you play some of it? I hate that game?
Whoa, I think I really fucking hate Quadterlateral Quaterlateral Cowboy. Okay, I've
never been so instantly turned off of a game, And I fully understand that
this might just be a mean thing. I suspect it is. Yeah,
I think I'm gonna go ahead and sue, and I know a lot of
people really like it, and I assume it's the type of people that probably
spent a lot of time with command prompts, because that was a little bit
before my time, you know, outside of using to run Wolf and Stign
and Doom, I didn't really you know, I wasn't hacking stuff or putting
together in stuff. That's all you need to know. Well, okay,
if you can run Wolfenstein typing typing wolf three D dot exc that's happened.
You can get route to access to any sequels, injections go. Just everything
about that game seems like a giant pain in the ass. Like to open
a door, you got to plug a thing in and select like open underscore
door dot exe, and you have to type in all this stuff like terminal
door three underscore e X. That sounds amazing. You spent a lot of
time typing stuff and command prompts are doing whatever. Like You're much more you
know, computer focused than I've ever been, And so I have no nostalgia
for like this UI. Like the UI is just clunky and bad to me,
and everything is a pain in the ass. I played like twenty minutes
of it, and you can actually just skip to any job you want to.
So I was like, okay, maybe just the opening I'm hating,
let me just skip ahead to like the real game. And everything about that
game turned me off. It seems like the thing in that game and this
is I have not played it, but I've kind of been following it loosely,
not super closely, because he's been streaming development of it for a good
long time. But it seems like, Yeah, once you get beyond the
thing of like I'm just gonna type in open door, you are then typing
in you're like loosely kind of coding something that will turn off security and let
you open a door get past security. So it is kind of like it's
it's the hacking mini game large. But how many people is that for?
How limited is that audience people that actually have spent time coding. I think
it depends on how I mean, it depends on how easy that language is
to understand and how easy that stuff is. It From looking at it,
it seems way easier than something like Man, what was that? There was
a game there was like basically like a program of programming. Game was no,
no, no, not hacknet. Hacknet has some unichs in it,
but a man it was a games of that one based on like assembly language.
Yeah, I know what you're talking about. That one. That one
is too far. That's a game that I look at and go like,
man, I wish I was smart enough to appreciate this. Even if it's
simplified. It's a pain in the ass to have to type in this stuff
every time you want to open a door or get into a terminal. I
don't want to be typing underscores anytime I want to do anything in a game.
Yeah, if that's if that's like every single time you ever open a
door, then maybe that's what I want to clarify. Like, I did
not play that much. So like there were doors where you'd plug in your
thing and you just had to use like WNS to like select the command prompt
and then click you know, left click to select it or whatever. But
it's still like, let me just go up and hit a to open a
damn door or e or something. Well, I was talking to somebody who
was playing it over the weekend who talked about the door things specifically, and
they said, like you could pass a number of seconds to that argument or
that function or whatever to determine how long the door stayed open. So I
would immediately just type like, you know, ten billion into that field.
But then you're typing to open a door. But then like that's using the
tools there to get around that problem by just making the door stay open for
a billion seconds or whatever for every door you want to open. Yeah,
that sounds fun to me. Well, also, I mean one would hope
that there would be a gameplay reason to make sure those doors don't stay open,
like if it is kind of hack it, like a stealth situation,
like the last thing you want is that door to be open. Yeah,
yeah, but I don't know. I mean, you said you didn't get
that far, but no, not at all. So like I don't know
that the grander person who made it sound like like how long the door stays
open is a puzzle solving element in that. You know, I'm sure,
and I'm sure there's great stuff there if you're into that type of stuff.
But I just thought everything was clunky and ugly and bad and for me,
I mean, I've people got are into that the screenshots that I've seen,
like yeah, the weird like boxy people and stuff, but like I think
that's been kind of that. That's kind of the Blundow trademark. Yeah okay,
yeah, yeah for some people, they will love it. I've already
seen people on Twitter. That's fine. It is not for me at all.
I never want to play it again. I get it, though,
Okay, I wonder I don't know if anybody's I'm sure people finished it by
now, but I wonder how long it is because pretty sure some of a
lot of their games being like fifteen or in his I guess it's yeah,
single dude, but uh yeah, some of their games being like fifteen minutes
long and stuff. I mean there was a pretty big like chapter select when
you pick a job. I don't know how long each job is. This
would definitely seemed like it would be longer than some of the previous stuff.
Yeah, I mean it's been in the works for a pretty long Yes,
I'm super excited to play that. Yeah, and then I don't know,
I downloaded Headlander but didn't start playing. That's out say, yeah, last
name, you're shaking your head again. No, no, no, no,
she could break my heart twice. I just kind of shaking my head
because I also didn't, you know, play that long. I played like
that seems fine, I just didn't play. Yeah, I'm I'm judging by
the percentage completion thing. I'm like fifteen percent of the way through it.
So there are so there are neat things that I've seen in Headland, kind
of having looked at it once or twice from like, oh, this conceptually
seems kind of fascinating. It's almost like an avenging spirit kind of thing,
like possessing different bodies, odd world in some ways. I could see that
a little bit. I mean it's a Metroid Vaneo like it is, yeah,
that but stuff of like killing enemies and then like bringing your head down
to like in habit them, Like everything seems like more deliberate than the Metroid
kind of liked you know, So it's it's it's like a geist, I
guess, yeah, sure, like this warm. I mean it was the
director also directed Stacking, So yep, it's a lot of kind of similarities
there in terms of like taking over bodies that have different abilities. Okay,
is it like? But like, so look what I saw. I looked
intriguing, but I also came away from it going like there are neat ideas
here, But I didn't have a clear indicator if if the game was actually
going to be any good or yeah. So I mean, like I said,
I'm in an hour ninety minutes into it or something. Uh, It's
it's like a mix between a Metroid vanea and an adventure game. Okay,
Like it's not pure combat. You can't jump, right, you do have
kind of shadow complex style like right analog like aiming control fil and like angling
stuff to try to get and you can bounce shots off walls and stuff like
that, but it's not like a top tier action game, like it doesn't
have the shooting does not feel amazing, okay, and it's very much built
around the idea of like, these bodies are disposable and they're not gonna last
you long, so you constantly need to be hopping, right because maybe it
changes and there are there are like tiers of damage and stuff, so later
on you can get better bodies, you can take more hits and stuff,
but early on it feels kind of frustrating because you're taking a bunch of required
hits because the action is not tight enough for you to dodge stuff right necessarily.
There is a role. If you watch a trailer for that game,
you'll see it's like a bullet hell kind of situation. There's so many different
shots and that looks exciting. Yeah, it's a little uh strange to hear
that. There's like and you kind of have shield when you're just the heads.
Yeah, so the stuff that can fop off like and you have a
little shield like a little vacuum too, and flying the head around is like
super fun and satisfying. It's really maneuverable. It's got that cool looking shield
which has like an amazing like graphical effect on it, and it's fun like
flying the head around and like deflecting lasers as you go and that stuff.
But the did you land the head on dog yet? Yes? Taking over
the dog? Yes? Their side quests, like there's a side quest to
go find a specific dog and run it back to its owner or whatever.
So like that's what I mean when I say that they're like adventure game elements
in this, Like they're there are long stretches of no combat where you're doing
other other stuff, so you're never able to jump, not that I've seen.
There might be. There might be bodies later that let you jump over.
Sure, it does feel really restraining and something that you know, looks
like a Metroid style game not being able to jump and that's such a huge
Commando Yeah, yeah, yeah, a hook. There's there's a cover system.
There's like pretty much any room you're gonna fight stuff in, there will
be cover points that you can hide behind. But the enemies shoot super fast,
and the animation to get out of cover and shoot back is so long
that you will take hits just in the course of popping out and shooting them.
Yeah. So, like I started getting upgrades for like more health and
health regeneration and stuff like that, and it's kind of becoming a non issue
very quickly. But like first impression of the combat is that it's not amazing
for that type of game. Yeah, but it's got other stuff going on,
and the look of it is super fantastic. Yeah, it's it's like
this weird mix of well, it's like a bunch of seventy sci fi,
like the graphic design, the logo, and like the computers look straight out
of like the first Star Wars. Uh, it's all you know, it's
mass EFFECTI in that way. But then it's also like super sixties psychedelia,
like the whole the whole thing takes place on this like Robot Pleasure Palace,
and the robots all seem stoned all the time, like and and and I
gotta keep him and horny like a double five. Yes, it's a weird
game. Uh, there's a lot of there's a lot of fun stuff about
it, and like I said, it seems like the combat stuff is getting
better as I get into it, So I'm excited to play more. I've
nothing but good stuff about that. So yeah, I totally wanted to man
yep uh cool. Yeah, and then I have not played it, but
Marvel Ultimate Alliances out fucking like what that Marvel Ultimate Alliances just like, well,
I guess I have. I guess I have played it. Actually,
one and two is that just one other activision like announced and dropping Master and
last weekend during the Comic Convention, the good one and the bad one.
I don't I don't know that. I thought one one felt like the old
like X Men Legends games that were really good, and then I too didn't.
I don't know that I would say that two is like, yeah,
it's maybe not It's not the sequel you would want. But I remember playing
too, and you're like, this is still okay. We're being really repetitive.
And I think something that it's been so long. I think that Great
Path was not great. Yeah, I forget what it was that people didn't
like about two. Yeah, it's it's been a while. But I wonder
if Roster, Yeah, I wonder if those games are gonna stand out at
all in a world where Diablo three has come to consoles successfully, yeah,
and where Marvel heroes exist on the exists on the PC. Yeah, that's
true. Yeah, Marvel Heroes is like, you know, the really good
turn It. Yeah, you know to that game. They're both people that
loved, Like, these are both just steeper games than Ultimate Alliance, but
either of those games were totally so I just wonder if those games are going
to feel like rudimentary coming back to them now. Yeah, they had a
huge appeal as a console gamer back then because we didn't really get outside of
like Balder's Gate, Dark Alliance Legends of an amazing game. Yeah, those
games are awesome on console, but like I never really got into Diablo until
three right. Uh so, yeah, if you played one on the PlayStation,
you would have seen the direct controls it worked back then? Did it
work on Yeah? It was surprisingly good? Really Yeah. I don't know
that you would go back to it now, but but for something where you
looked at it when man, this is gonna be terrible. Diablo one on
the PlayStation was actually pretty okay. I learned command and cocker on the playsta
exactly. I played x Com on the PlayStation one without a mouse, without
because who would have a PlayStation mouse? That's crazy. No, I'm a
big fan of those games, man, seriously, Yeah, Like I just
you know, once I heard the announcement, I'm like, shit, let
me dig out my copy of you know, the Gold Edition of Ultimate Alliance.
Then I'm like this, Yeah, this game totally What was that like
three sixty launched somewhere around there after it was pretty much closed. It was
like seventy, should say, and the second one was like late oh nine,
early twenty ten something like that. Yeah, that's roughly. Yeah.
Yeah, they've been kind of yeah, quiet about you know what characters,
you know, what you could like I mentioned the Gold Edition that it has
like you know, all the characters in the Lock and DALC and shit like
that, and I don't know exactly what it's going to be included in these
and they've well they're at now so someone knows the answer to that question.
It's just not us. Uh, how much is it? It's sixty for
the bundle of both and then individually each one's forty. It seems like a
lot. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, have they added much in terms of
we know, no, I believe these are those games and there were some
platform specific characters for some of those games, like the DLC went off sale
at one point contracts expired, Like that was one of those games that,
like MVC three, like at some point just things stopped being available for it,
and you're like, what chipping here, some weird stuffy activisions been in
this habit right, Like they dumped that prototype prototy Master kind of out of
the blue a while back. I think they did something else like that them
specifically. Anyway, that probably gives you some ideas, right what those ports
are, Like, Yeah, that price taggs a little daunting. Yeah.
Do they have online? I guess they would. One would, one would
hope, one would hope especially man I might wait for sale. I don't
know. Yeah, see how that stuff shakes out. Yeah, yeah,
yeah definitely, Jeff, Hi, would you like to speak on gal Gun
before we move on? Oh? Sure that's a video game? Sure is?
Yeah? Yeah, gal Gun Double Pieces out next week. I've been
playing that. It's been nice to see it in English because you give it
play the Japanese version for so long exactly, and I just don't really know
the story, yeah, super well. But being able to you know,
read it and understand it, it's like, Okay, now I guess now
I understand the whole new appreciation. Really, what's really going on in gal
on, what's really going on a gal gun is that you are shooting women
to give them orgasms. Okay, just like real life, Just like real
life. What are you shooting them with? Uh? You Ford? No,
what's you? The name of the oh what are you shooting? Maybe?
And there is a specific term that they use. They don't actually say
orgasm either, You say you're giving them euphoria. Right, It's like that
mini game An Incredible Crisis when you're on the ferris wheel and you have to
move the analog stick until they become euphoric. Exactly, yeah, it is
exactly that. Uh yeah, So you get shot by an angel by a
cupid, but her guns are set to full instead of one, so it's
like you are getting thirty two times the power of one normal cupid arrow.
So instead of her just trying to help you, you know, become less
of a like a you know, a loser, and help you find somebody
instead, it becomes this very critical situation where your only chance, you're only
appeal to anyone anyone is happening in this one day. So you have one
day to find your true love. And also everyone loves you. Uh,
so you have to shoot these women to get them to these school girls.
I guess I should say to get them to back off because they are all
running up and trying to hand you things, which causes damage when they hand
you something. Wait. I thought that shooting them made them love you.
No, No, they already love you because you got shot with the arrow.
Yeah, so you are you are? You are intractive. The legend
of the super Popular it's, yeah, this whole thing. At one point
the game called me creeper Sama. So that's you know, the localization is
kind of taking some liberties and and you know in a way that they know
what game they're putting, what they have, Uh, they know exactly what
they have. Uh, it's it's so it's kind of a bad shooter without
like a light gun on rails. Yeah, definitely, it's on rails.
You have some spots where you can kind of rotate and and turn to face.
There's also, uh the dokey dokey mode where when you shoot them with
the charged up shot, you have a meter the builds as you play.
That's what brings into the camera mode, where you give them an extra personal
dose of euphoria by rubbing and touching on certain parts of their body and that
can affect your player's stats, which, yeah, it's gonna I was gonna
ask if you found any benefits to maxing the lewdness meter. So I guess
the none of that is coming to play yet. There are four character stats.
You choose what type of character you want to play. I chose pervert,
which was one of the four starters. There's another one that is what
I need to know what all the classes are called. I don't know the
they're unlockables. There's like there's like jock bookworm. Uh. And so there
are four different stats, and you there are four different characters you can or
you know, classes you can play, and each one has a predominant stat.
So it's like, you know, and this determines kind of which I
think, which girls might be more appealing or less appealing. Uh. But
those numbers change depending on what you do in the dokey dokey mode, So
depending on where you're rubbing to give them the special euphoria. What does dokey
doke mean? It's like a heart heart heartbeat, yeah, okay, sodoki
doki panic is Yeah, it's like a heartbeat panic. Yeah yeah, and
so yeah, so depending on where you rub them, you might get more
lewdness or you might get less. It's accurate, Okay, Im, how
how creepy is it? Like, I mean, aside from it's as creepy
as you want it to be. I mean, you know, it's it's
it's about choice. Can it be not creepy? No? No? Yeah,
I mean that's not whatever it's it is what. It's not bad.
It's not so bad. I've seen yeah, much worse, even on consoles
like exactly Center Kangura, like one of the most recent ones. It's like
in the first five minutes, like there's talk of like incest and it's like
this girl's like following another one just to have multiple orgasms per day, and
she gets turned on by dead people, and it's like, what the fuck
is going on? And in this game real life, that's what's going on.
That's what's going on. Okay, all right, uh yeah, so
it's uh, I don't I just don't think it's a great game. We'll
do a quick look of that and show it off, you know, like
it's it's fascinating, but I just I don't, you know, there it
really isn't much else out there like it, at least in this territory.
Sure, but I don't know that I would say that it's like some amazing
game. This was the first one to get localized. Yeah. Yeah,
the first outgun was not like you, you imported the I did original.
I imported it for achievements basically Virtual Cop with orgasms. Yeah, pretty much.
There are certain yeah, you you by looking at the girls, you
get certain areas where their weak spots are, whether it's like breasts or legs
or head or whatever, and shooting them there much like a Justice shot Virtual
Cop, you get an ecstasy shot, okay, by shooting them in the
weak spot. So, yes, exactly that good stuff. Did you get
the screen cleaner with it? No, No, they send they send codes.
Oh that's a that's way. I guess it's out on the Vita also,
so they have some custom package where a screen cleaner, that's it's a
pair of panties. Mmmm. Just in case. Look, they that's the
that's their audience, that's the game they're making, that's the game they're localizing
and putting out. They should lean into it. I guess. Yeah,
Like, don't fucking half ask this yeah, if you want to bring your
creepy orgasm game over to the US. Fucking doing panties and pillows in there,
and they they're they're doing it for better or worse. It certainly are
Yeah sure, so yeah that's cool, Dan. Yeah, you can playing
anything else since I play a lot Overwatch. Oh what's that about. It's
the first person shooter from Blizzard Entertainment. Yeah, I've heard things about it.
Yeah. How's uh, how's on a treating on a school? I
am not great as her, as video evidence would suggest as well, but
she's great to have on your team. She's a real helpful So good have
I announced the blizz Con virtual items yet that you'll get for buying the ticket.
I want to see what they'll do with with seeing the virtual items.
I saw like the goodie bag, the physical stuff, and there's no dates
out there for yeah starting sting, they're selling virtual tickets notes. Okay,
yeah, so I wonder if I mean, but I had to. Traditionally
there are in game items for all the Blizzards games, so this will be
the first time for Overwatch, maybe many of which become like insanely valuable,
like go for like hundreds if not thousands of dollars on vas ridiculous. But
yeah, like with that that game being built around hats, I have to
wonder that. Yeah, you will assume they would have to do skins.
Yeah, for for something, Deeva is very good. Now. Oh yeah,
I saw I saw a bunch people saying she got buffed. I'm starting
to play with her, and she's she's definitely better. I loved her.
What did they? What do they do? So? Like her explosion when
she gets out, it's instead of four seconds to explosion, which gives people
too much time to run away, it's three seconds. And also now it
doesn't damage you when you pop out as divas, and like the cool down
time is like drastically or the old time is drastically reduced. The defense matrix
thing that the shield she can do is now a meter that governs that so
kind of goes up and down and tuned it on and off, just like
flipping it on, letting it, you know, run the four seconds or
whatever. Yeah, so it's like an ault fire. So I can just
hold the right mauch button or you can turn on an option, so it's
actually a toggle switch. So yeah, there's just a lot more options with
her, she just seems way stronger. She can get in and out of
situations with all her old's better and comes comes along quicker. So yeah,
she's she's much better now. She's super fun. She's still still playing every
day. Oh yeah, get a blue box every day. Yeah yeah,
I am too, man, I can't break away from it. Like I
bought Headlander last night, so I really wanted to talk about something on the
fucking podcast. It's supposed to Overwatch, and you know, I've got limited
time now. So it's like, you know, I've got a couple hours,
you know, per night where I can really sink my teeth into a
game. And I just find myself going back to Overwatch and I can't stop.
I just have fun every time I play it. Yeah, well,
I I just see I'm getting a little higher level now, so you know,
the I'm not doing ranks matches, I'm still doing casual stuff. I
don't like ranked, yeah, oh yeah, Ranked is terrible, but it
seems like there's more like steamroller kind of matches where it's like it's so lopsided
and I don't like being a part of, you know, the team that
just got steamrolled that's no. Sure, that happens way more incompetitive Yeah,
and it's longer too, so yeah, because it's like three rounds. Yeah
yeah. Have you heard about the Honor thing about how they can boot people.
I saw something about this today. So one of her abilities is she
shoots a tranquilize your dart, right, it puts you asleep for a certain
amount of seconds or until you take damage. But if you have three Honors
on your team and you just kind of like sequester one of the enemies around,
you can just keep shooting darts into them until the game recognizes you as
away from keyboard and boots you from the game. That's kind of funny.
So they'll it's pretty great. You just keep them asleep until they get booted.
You can only have like one character. Well that's just in general.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it'll probably fix that at something that would be
infuriating if that happened you. But we were we were talking a little bit
earlier, Brad, how do you think that like the general consensus of that
game is that like it's kind of for casuals. Oh no, I mean
I'm not saying everybody thinks, but like, who was it, Dan or
somebody seemed surprised that anybody out there thought that goal. But like I've totally
seen there is definitely a contingent of people that are like, the headshots are
too easy. Counterstrike Go guys, I've definitely seen people saying like, oh,
this is the baby team shooter for babies. I'll take it. You
know, I'm not a first person shooter guy. I have a great time
playing, and it's got me back into you know, that kind of competitive
like first person stuff. It got me into team based, class based stuff
in a way that I did not expect that set. I haven't played in
weeks. Yeah, I don't have any fun playing stuff like Counterstrike Go because
you know, everyone takes it's so seriously, talks the hardcore Quake live.
Oh yeah, talk about videos, talk about that, yeah, here and
there, here and there. I'm not I'm I'm not saying that I'm doing
well. In fact, I would actually say that in some of these rail
fights, I am doing downright poorly, but you're still having a good time.
But I'm still having a good time. I like use the zoom,
Yes, I was like I would like zooming in and popping off for a
quick rail and Yeah, like that feels extra satisfying. Yeah, not all
the time, you know, it kind of depends on on where you're at
what you're doing, but yes, yes, sometimes you need zoom. For
the third week running, I'm gonna say I should download Quick Life. You
should haven't done yet, You should probably do that. It takes a good
game. Besides Overwatching. I had booted up a God Eater again a little
more Monster Hunter, but really just barely touched those guys. Yeah, man,
uh when I know we talked about it already, but I'm just,
oh, I can't believe you didn't fall into the Monster Hunter hole again.
Yeah. That was hard to avoid actually, because this game is really good.
It's just man, with God Eater out and Overwatch and there's just a
lot of other stuff that you know, I've heard people describe Monster Hunter is
kind of like the greatest hits of previous Monster Hunter? Is that why you're
not getting into it? Because it feels like kind of done that? But
you know, with the addition of the new like super moves, and that's
really exciting to me, and that's that that change is enough of the game.
The core game play I think too indice me. But just haven't gotten
around to all the stuff. The different styles seemed like that was like a
huge amount of new mechanics to that's that's a big, big change. But
at the same time, you know, we're kind of treading through, you
know, familiar environments and monsters and I've done it, man, I've done
that for hundreds of hours, and yeah, I just don't have a huge
straw. Oh King of Fighters demo, Oh yeah, yeah, it's super
good. So I've mentioned it before, like, you know, my initial
impression of that game, you know, moving to three D and you know,
just some of the character models didn't leave a yeah, good impression on
me. But once I get hands on in that game, like it to
me it plays a lot like old KOA. You guys seem pretty happy with
it on I would, Yeah, it took me a little while. Like
when I when I first when we first played that demo on the show last
week, it was like something about this doesn't feel right, the timing,
the spacing, just something about the the jump speed, like just all of
it felt off to me. But I think that I went back because it's
like overly animated and it's in three D. It just it looks different and
there's I don't know, it's doing something weird in your head. Yeah,
but I but playing a little bit more like Okay, actually this timing does
feel right. This is starting to line up. I think there's some stuff
with the art style, Like it just doesn't look great. Guy's dinosaur ko
doesn't look like Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I mean there are elements of
the art that I actually really do like, but some of it just feels
like this knockoff. It feels like, you know, some of the games
like like a fighter's impact or a critical blow, like some of these like
kind of like there, they're far better looking. Yeah. Three D fighters,
Yeah for sure. This is this feels like a throwback to like the
PS one era when everyone was making a three D fighter and they all looked
super generic that uh non design perhaps. Yeah, as far as the design,
the mechanics, you know, totally separate from that. I just mean
when you look at it, you go like, this just seems like some
also ran fighting game from the Fighting game Boom of the late nineties. SK
has been out of the game for a little while. Yeah, maybe they're
a little rusty. Yeah, and like some of the new like s and
case characters like I don't know, they're just I don't know what it is.
Is it too much too much anime for you? Maybe maybe like that
Sylvie character she's got, like you like anime? Uh I do? I
do, But they're they're a sub genre maybe not anime that maybe he doesn't
want anime King of Fighters, you know, no, I wouldn't mind it.
So yeah, they added like a super movie I want to kid fighters
and a lot you know, street Fighter for you know where you got a
big like cinematic attacks and shit like that. So, I mean they're adding
stuff to it feels good. I'm really excited for it. There's so many
characters. I think that's that's where the argument about the art kind of starts
to be a little more acceptable when you're like, oh, you know,
some of these characters faces don't look great up close. But there's like fucking
a thousand characters for this game or it was like fifty a big number,
bigger than most three D fighter, most polygonal fighters have been as of late.
So still got that Geese, Yeah, I believe they still got that
Storm was pretty awesome that there was a bad guy named Geese. Yeah,
Raging Storm. Yes, he's my dude. He's my dude. I got
a lot of dudes in that game. Yes, Brad, life is so
much better without Clash Royal. Yeah, you were right. Fuck that trash
ye terrible was right? Like how long ago Jason was on the band guard
of that. I think you were the first one that I think you were
telling me I shouldn't delete it. You kept talking about how great it was,
Brad. But he wishes, he wishes you ill, so he you
know, I want to just say, way ahead of the curve. Yeah,
never download. This might be the funeral for Clash Royal. Discussion on
here if we've also deleted it and not playing never cool with that. I
never even played a match in that tournament you made me join. Yeah,
I watch. I joined the tournament at your behest, and then I played
it like a public match just to get warmed back up. And I hated
that match so much that I immediately deleted The game. Was great, Yep,
it's it's good to be here. Yeah. I think I might.
Actually I might have played one match in that tournament. I don't think you
did. I can't remember, but no, you played public matches and hated
that. Yeah, it's terrible. Now we all get to get on that
Adventure Time puzzle quest. Yeah, I need to check that out. That's
the thing, Like, I feel way better with Clash Royal out of my
life, but I haven't found anything to replace it. I don't. You
don't have to. You don't have to fill that point. You can just
sit and be a person like on on the bus. I have been reading
a lot now you're being crazy. You can read, you have. I've
been reading a lot more since Clash Royal went away too. What if you
got it a tap tycoon? Mmmm? Tap my Katamari? No legs on
it? Oh yeah, I know, I've pretty much I should uninstall it
because it's like nag notifications are the worst. It's like where are you prints?
Where art thou? Like? Fuck off? That's where I'm at.
And even if you have the option to turn that stuff off, if they're
like too like aggressive with it, I'm like fuck you get exactly yeah,
yeah, over aggressive. The minute they have a notification that says like that
basically acknowledges that you haven't launched the app in a while. Yeah, that's
where I'm like, Okay, I'm done. With this. I handloaded a
game that started sending the notifications before I ever played it. I didn't think
that was even loud. No, that shouldn't be. Maybe you must have
you had must the app. Maybe I like accidentally launched it at one point
and killed it. Obviously you can turn notifications off. Yeah, I like
to. With a lot of these games that I'm installing and checking out.
I'm actually curious to see how awful they get with them, so I usually
turn them all on. Are you still collecting cards? I mean I still
have that thing installed and get a daily bonus. That thing is the worst.
It's real with notification. I did leted that pretty quick. I'm gonna
I'm gonna say wrestling app talk counts as wrestling talk. It's a game save
that. I've got a pretty limited addition today with a Tommy. Also,
that's not a game. It's it's it is one hundred percent out of game.
Yep, it is okay, it is the realist game. It is.
No, it's famous dot app a game. No, okay, what
are these things? What do you call probably not just apps? Fucking distractions?
I mean, you call it like some fucking thing you can do.
You call them bad social networks. I don't know, you know, it's
like, yeah, it's a social network network. Yeah. Have you guys
touched that since that? Yeah, I've been logging into it and just like
I keep favoriting my wife. Okay, now she's like worth more than I
a famous Yeah, I just buy Danny O'Dwyer from time to time. Okay,
uh, Eric Tay was getting too rich for my blood. I was.
I was camping the John Romero page for a while. Yeah, yeah,
I don't understand what the fuck. I was an early investor in Adam
Boy's futures. Oh yeah, and get yes, so that that is like
an amazing actual use of that thing, just you know, yeah Twitter speculation,
right, Yeah, there is a game there if they if they turned
that, if they were famous, into a game they could Sellan was the
one that when mentioned that one, it's like you knew you're going into evil
sep Killian was going to blow up, so you got in on the ground
floor. Like that's actually kind of amazing. So I wish it was more
like that, But that stuff is so weirdly unpredictable and like you know,
like that doesn't make any sense. So it's it's that's dumb, but there's
a cool core ride. Like basically came out of like I think I said
this last week, but I came out of messing around with that and messing
around with this digital trading card thing, thinking like, man, I could
I could make a I should make apps because there's a game in there that's
not do better, that's not being pulled out. It could do better than
that that I I think you could do. Let's do it. No,
no premium feature. Giant Bond makes an app? Okay, yeah, how
hard could it be? Yeah? We all have phones. Yes, well
that's true. That's all all all phone apps are made on phones. No,
not a lot of people use your Friendly. It's all touch based.
Just swipe things around totally and you have an app. Uh Drew Scanlon Yes,
and all the hubbub Yes, we had not really checked in down there
at the command center. Yeah, how things going turn account? How many
screens? I had one more screen? Boxes and dials and sliders and a
lot of stuff over the stuff going on? How's it going good? I'm
still making a way my way through uncharted four very slowly. Yes, it's
chipping away. Where did you land on? Like the difficulty level and aim
assists stuff because it seems like a hot topic for a while. Yeah,
I turned it away down. I turned it like it's almost off. The
more I have to shoot guys, the more I think about it, I
feel like I would have had a better time with that game if I had
turned our stuff down. I've also been looking real hard at rim World,
which people say in hushed tones it's like to our Fortress, scary, but
it also looks a little like Factorio and run Oh yeah, it's like double
Runaway. It sounds cool if, yeah, you don't have anything else to
do with your life. Rim World seems like one of those games is that
the people that are talking about things that happened while they're playing rim World make
it sound amazing, But then I look at it and look at what you're
actually doing, or like, I don't know if I will play enough of
this to have amazing stories of my own. Yeah, I mean it's that,
you know, that's that's Eve, that's the war Fortress, like you
can you can. I mean that that's like Starbound and to a certain extent,
you know, you're kind of making your own fun. But uh,
yeah, you can read tales of those games, tales of the world all
day long. But like teasing those tales out for yourself. It's rim world
dot xxx. This is where my tails live. Let's go buy that buy
let's go buy some domains. We can't people hear this now that it's a
live show. We cannot do the thing where we go register the domain before
the show goes up. You never discussed joke. Domains again are down?
Okay, all right, well it's time for us to take our first break.
Let's go think about what we've done. Okay, we'll be right back,
and we're back. We are. I think, I think we're still
alive. Welcome back. Think this thing is still going. Yeah, this
rattle traps still chugging along down there, evidently. Yeah, fingers crossed.
Not swearing up a storm, but it normally does. Your cross You don't
run out of cold down there before this thing's over. Shovel as fast as
I can. Yes, indeed, I'll get ready to shovel a little faster.
Signed for some news. Chuck Chuck, Chuck, chuck. Headlines of
the world, news happened, news all around the world. I mean we've
been we've been retorking this thing on tuesdays for a while as we prep for
this thing. Yes, sometimes recording on Tuesday pays dividends. Occasionally on days
like today we get an extra day and news some stuff happened. Yeah,
like stuff happens on Tuesday mornings a lot. Yeah, and we have some
stuff this morning. Uh. Euro Gamer has published a giant info dump on
what they believe the Nintendo NX to be. Right, I'm not sure how
much of this had ever been out there and confirmed by outlets before, but
like, you know, the top level, Hey, it's a handheld that
right connect to your TV. Check it will be like their one platform.
They will not be making a separate handheld and a console next time. It's
just going to be the thing. The fact that it's connecting to a TV.
Has that been kind of so that's what I'm saying, like it,
I mean, obviously that's what everybody has assumed this thing would be for,
Like, I'm super into that a year or two now. But I don't
know, I don't know if any outlet ever came out and said, hey,
we have confirmed there's been a lot of third hand stuff they're knocking around
for a long time. Kind of basically saying most of this stuff. Yeah,
but they go a lot but no one Yeah, I feel like no
one has ran like felt comfortable enough and run down enough like sources to put
it together into a new story until now. But yeah, like the notion
that this is a hybrid handheld that hooks up to a TV, like that's
been that's been chicking around for a while, unified Nintendo platform. But yeah,
they they go a lot deeper with details. The big thing to me
here is that they suggest there is a modular control scheme on this thing.
Yeah, you're like kind of controller components that will snap onto the side when
it's in handheld mode that you could theoretically then like pull off and use as
controllers at home, kind of kind of napped together as you were playing on
the table, so you're like getting rid of like an iPad thing in the
middle. Not as well. So, I mean they posted they had an
illustration attached to this, which I think was just there and interpretation of what
this would be, and like the things they had almost looked like two little
we remotes or it would almost feel like, you know, almost like if
you had a tablet that had a Bluetooth controller hooked up to it that you
wanted to play on the go, Like you just set that thing down and
you're playing like this. Yeah right. They just kind of in front of
it. They didn't necessarily say that the two controller things would like snap together
or anything like that, but you know, because or two separate, you
know, you have to kind of look at, you know, the types
of games that might be made for a platform like this, Like we still
don't know anything about whether it will have a touch screen on it, so
there could be elements of like, well, you might dock this but still
have that whole unit in your hand while it is quote unquote docked, because
you might need the touch screen as a controller like a we you like solution.
But also if you look at Zelda and you played Zelda, how much
touch screen was in Zelda? Like, man, that was there any I
don't think there was any. In fact, was it even turned? I
think maybe they had a map down there. Many think you're like, we
came out of that demo going like this is the most like controller and button
driven game that has made in a very long I feel like that was kind
of the general consensus around that stuff. So I look at that and say,
well, if they're making this game for both platforms, then maybe they
don't have a touch screen on that thing, because if you think about it
in terms of this is a handheld that you need to be able to also
hook up to a TV and play a game there, you kind of can't
have a touch screen unless that handheld is always going to be in your hand,
and then you've got a like a DS like solution, which then you
wouldn't be able to take advantage of when it's in handheld, right, So
I think that starts to maybe make the case the touchscreen is out, but
maybe there are the features that are exclusive to one mode, whether you're docked
or on the go. I think that would be well, so that the
powers in the device, right, So it's not like the DOC is some
base station full of guts. So you know, theoretically you wouldn't want to
do that. And if you look at where their business has been, where
the handheld has kind of been leading the charge and the console is not making
things that would be exclusive when it's docked to a TV, seems like a
risky endeavor. Yeah, for kind of the space that this I look at
this as like a successor to the three DS more than a successor to the
WU, but also both you know, well yeah, I mean it's kind
of it's kind of bed of union of the two. Yeah. But but
in the grand scheme of things, like where it'll like where it'll kind of
probably fit power wise, where it'll kind of finably fit, Like, this
isn't gonna be some huge you know, some people are like, oh,
they're finally gonna make a powerful Like no, that's not Endo, that's been
Nintendo. And on top of that, if it's portable, like you kind
of can't do that, yeah, if you want it to have any kind
of bettery life. So the euro Gamer says, report talks about cartridge.
Yeah, they're saying it's cartridge based, which makes sense. Yeah, I
heard. Uh it's it's a little less powerful than PS four is the one,
Like they're so this this says it runs on some version of Nvidio,
tigray, that stuff. That stuff seems like the least certain aspect of this
whole thing. Yeah, yeah, like they so Digital Foundry, which is
part of your Gamer, posted a separate article just about that chip, and
even they said, like, might that might not actually be the chip?
Like maybe it's the next generation Tiger that's not out yet that they're basing this
on. But but they seem to be firm on the just like that chip
set in general, that company that that style. Yeah, but like there's
a lot of detail in that article about managing your expectations for how powerful this
thing's going to be. Like if they make it sound like it super powerful,
yeah, that's not that's not what Nintendo does. It doesn't make sense
for them to and also it would be very hard for them to do that.
In a hand out factor they mentioned some examples, like they basically make
it sound like that that thing could run games at ten ADP between thirty and
sixty depending on the games, like for some recent games, not games that
are not yet out. Sure like it is it is fairly modest from a
power perspective, No problem with that. It sounds fine, But Nintendo like
better than a three D S Nintendo squeezes blood from stones, but that stuff,
like, it's incredible what they do with hardware that they have. So
I mean, I look at this as you know, unifying down to one
platform is great because I'm tired of having to get two platforms to get all
of Nintendo's output. So having that stuff like Okay, buy one platform,
you'll get all of Nintendo's games. Yep. Yeah. The idea that like
every game that they make could be something that they put folk exact effort.
Every one of their teams is going to make games for this device, I
think is you know that's powerful, yes, as opposed to like this kind
of split catalog where you're like, Okay, well you know, I want
some of these WEU games. I want some of these three DS games,
Like you know, those are weird choices. There's expensive choices. I'm I'm
gonna get a prettier Monster Hunter and I'm gonna be able to play it on
a TV and I'm happy. I mean, yeah, Monster Hunter is a
weird one because it goes where the installed base is. Right, So like
three DS is huge, but it who's to say whether this thing is going
to be equally huge, But well, yeah, I guess it was.
It was PSP then three DS, Yeah, we one, Yeah, they
did tree. Yeah, they always those games go where the Yeah there was
a three one that they had played as well. I mean a lot of
that comes down to Japan, you know, like a lot of it is
just how much this thing is and how much they build it, as this
is a new three DS versus the society. I think, you know,
the Monster Hunter makes sense on the handheld because of the way people play games
in Japan, whereas like the console market is not that much of a factor.
Yeah. There these days it is kind of becoming like less mainstream more
of a of a niche. There's a couple more points about the rollout of
this thing in the story. I'm just gonna read these quotes. Finally,
we've heard from one source that NX Planning has recently moved up a gear within
Nintendo ahead of the consoles and veiling, which is currently slated for September.
TGS is also in such I don't I don't know if those two things would
coincide or not. Is not the Yeah, they normally don't treig on TGS.
They could have an event like they could the week after, or direct
could be timed around that stuff. Maybe. Yeah. And then they also
say after the confused pr fiasco of the WU launched, the company is already
settling on a simple marketing message for n X of being able to take your
games with you on the go. Yeah. So the idea that being seamless
is awesome because I love that idea with the Vita and cross play, and
sometimes it worked all right. I remember Rogue Legacy was pretty good that way,
but always having to make sure like you know, you got to really
read over that thing, like okay, I'm not overwriting my current thing,
like I could literally just pick it up and take it on the bus perfect
even even something like like I've played a lot of crypt of the Necrod Answer
between PS four and Vita. But yeah, they're like like, oh crap,
I left the house without remembering to go sync my saved from the PS
four Oh well, yeah, it's never been seamless like this sounds like it
could potentially be seen. I mean like literally all the stuff will live on
the handheld. So yeah, and I'm in a position where I'm not on
a bus, like I don't have that many opportunities to play a handheld system
that isn't me you know, I've been playing Rhythm Heaven sitting in front of
my PC, so like here's this big, great monitor and I'm fucking hunched
over this three DS. Uh. So the idea of being able to play
all these games and you know, play them on the TV, Like that's
super appealing to me, because yeah, I don't want to. I don't
want to, hunch, I don't want to play games in bed, not
video games anyway. So yeah, I think this, this is a this
has always sounded like a smart move from them, with with the direction that
this stuff has been been heading. So yeah, a good way to play
to their strengths. And yeah, definitely simplify their offering. Yeah, definitely,
that's that's all exciting. And then their second platform becomes phones. Yeah,
you know in a way where they're kind of well, I mean I
should have been talking specifically about their games crossing, see what that animal crossing
is going to be? Yeah, right, But yeah, speaking of that
stuff, I had to I really felt like I should hold my tongue back
when the Pokemon Go stuff was first blowing up because there was so much snark
out there, like when it became the biggest thing in the world. Yeah.
Yeah, from people going like, oh, good job Nintendo, like
you know, shunning phones for so long, Look what happens when you actually
make a game, and like the whole time, I'm going like, no,
no, I didn't make that game. Yeah, talking about. But
I felt like, I whatever, that's like needlessly pantic. I don't I'm
gonna get into stupid Twitter arguments with people. But apparently the investment world affused
a tip. Yeah we're two there you go. You should go be an
analyst, right, because someone needs to be able to like, hey,
idiots, Michael Packard, we're coming for you. Well, I felt insane
because my mom texted me, you know, like, go was that phenomenon
that people that don't even follow games text you about. My mom was like,
yeah, I've been hearing about this thing. I heard Nintendo's stock is
flying up? Should I invest in them? And I was like, well,
they don't make that game. And she sent me links yea from these
websites saying like oh Nintendo socks. I know it did bloated, but I
didn't know how to explain her like, no, they don't make that game.
They own like thirty two percent of that company or something like, I
don't know why their stock. Also, just as a general investment tip,
like if she's hearing about how the stock price is soaring, that's not the
time to invest time. Yeah, that you should buy that stock. But
yeah, I felt that's like that shouldn't be happening, Like their stock shouldn't
be going out there. Their stock price more than doubled after that thing.
They were bigger than Sony Google that their market capital ttician Yes, was bigger
than than the entirety of Sony for a while. But then yeah, they
they messaged investors on Friday, I believe it was. Yeah, they basically
came out and then set the record straight and they were like, hey,
we don't make this game. We only get a portion of the proceeds.
Yeah. They were just like, our forecast is not going to change this.
The expected revenue from this game was already factored into our forecasts, so
you kind of know what we have going on. And then yeah, so
the stock has fallen dramatically, but it's still quite a bit higher than it
was before all this stuff happened. In terms of brand, it's still you
know, it's they've got Pokemon games coming out this year, and I'm sure
they'll sell way more now. It's yeah, it's that they totally don't You
don't think I don't. It moves the needle pretty yeah, I bet,
I bet there's like some kind of extra renewed interest people are talking about Pokemon
more than they maybe ever have. Yeah, Like that's got to help when
they've got two new Pokemon games coming out. I feel like the people,
like the widespread phenomenon of Pokemon Go seems like so tapped into the nostalgia of
original Pokemon that this would be a great time for them to put out an
easy way to play red and Blue, like this new one with you know,
like, hey, I love Pablo, don't get me wrong. Yeah,
Populo is amazing, but it's not fucking Squirtle and charming. It's not
the fucking original ones that you know that those people were. I bet.
I feel like if someone were to pick up a modern Pokemon game having only
played that first game and and not and not really stuck with it, but
then playing Pokemon, go get it and go like Pokemon it's mechanically too dense
in some ways, it hasn't changed that much. Gameplay wise, it's changed
that much. It hasn't changed, I think. But I also think like
people don't remember that those games, Like we're fucking like there was a lot
going on, and that's true, that's true, and I just don't know
that. Well, maybe it'll sell more, but I don't know that those
people will will walk away from its satisfied customers. Yeah. Also, I
still think a lot of the the momentum behind Go is down to people's first
like major experience with AAR and GEO cashing and stuff and like's like incredibly novel.
Pokemon is obviously like the X factor there that makes people drawn to it.
It's a social in a way that like this three DS game will definitely
not be. But yeah, it's those elements that are unique to Go that
are yeah, that are what are drawn people that. Why are people obsessed
with this? The mimic you the have you seen those? People are obsessed
with the the new Pokemon that dresses up like Pikachu. It's like some internet
phenomenon. But no one's talking about Poplio. Everyone hates Poplio. Populo is
great. Everyone loves Poplo and I love loves this stupids Poplio Pikachu rip off.
Show me people that no one hates pop Google maybe pab I was about
to google. I can't do that, Yeah, because people whom can't see
that suff Yeah. Hey, but that owl with the leaf bow ties I
was cool too, Yes, No, nothing, all three of them are
nothing. Wrong with that strong uh strong showing from the new Pokemon. God
help us. We have to talk about Sonic. Do we the the Hedgehog
that it looks all right? That stream? Did you watch it? Tell
me about I ended up turning it on while I was driving home, uh,
and just listening to it as I guess it was a crush forty is
the name of the band that's it's a guy guitar player. You know,
you worked on a lot of the music. They do a lot of the
vocal music for the Sonic games. Uh, it's rough. Yeah, there
was a stage show. There was a stage show. That whole thing was
like some multi hour thing. I think it happened at comic cons like around
comic Yeah, and they charged people to get into this thing. Uh so
it's tied to like an anniversary. Yeah it was, and so they ran
through. They had a lot of stage events. Didn't involved them announcing two
games, uh, and like announcing like hello, kiddie mash ups a bunch
of other stuff Sonic Sonic and Lego Dimensions. Yeah right, they're already announced
that. This was them showing the gameplay, which yeah, there was a
full long infomercial break where they were just spending time talking about pizza roles,
and it was just like Sonic that there's some overlap there, Yes, marketing
synergy, I like both yeah, uhnzz yeah that whole thing. The audio
was real, I mean whatever like that at some point, like you know,
harping on the production whatever. Fucking putting on big live shows is hard.
Uh, Shit's gonna go wrong. Uh. And a lot of it
did with the audio of that stream for a lot of it. But it
was just like watching this crowd of people sitting there, watching these two dudes
on stage play these songs. I was like, this is all so terrible.
Songs are so off Sonic. How to be led to the stage by
someone else Sonic is not in a position to dance. The person in the
Hello Kiddie outfit was able to fucking get right out on stage. Didn't quite
line up the eyehole. Yeah, must have gone wrong the Sonic outfit.
Uh that Yeah. Anyway, the stream, there are people that have cut
together like some of the shit show moments of that thing. It's not worth
getting into because whatever reminded me of the Twitch con rave at times. How
about that, except there were more people there. I guess I've said,
all right, well let's talk about the games. There are games that came
out of this. Yeah, yeah, one of them. I guess this
is officially what they're calling it, Project Sonic twenty seventeen. It was just
Project twenty seventeen. It appears to be a follow up to Sonic Generations,
where they're taking same team Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic and putting them in the
same game, which Classic Sonic is the chubby one and he's got black eyes.
I think Modern Sonic, I want to say, has the long legs
and he's got green around the black. I feel like in order to pull
that sort of stuff, like you know, maybe there's Sonic lore I missed
at some point, but I feel like if they wanted to make that distinction
at some point and put them in the same game, and I know they
probably justify it with their universe fucking weird shit, but like they should have
just taken a mega man X like approach to that stuff and had like a
more solid break where like more than just the character design change. Yeah yeah,
yeah, because instead it's just like here's Sonic and Sonic and you're like,
okay, one looks different one like the one they call Classic Sonic looks
like shit and it's just like they made it polygonal, but it's not.
It's not capturing the fucking art of original fucking Sonic on the Genesis that well,
you're like, oh, check it out, we made Sonic and garbage
Sonic. Those are names I can get down with. Yeah, it's just
fucking whatever. Who like, I don't actually care so much about any of
that stuff because it's a Sonic the Hedgehog game. Yeah, I mean,
it's it's the team that made Colors in Generation, which seem like the leader
were element Sonic games were We're better than most, but better than most is
a fairly low bar in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog, and I feel
like it's just at some at times, it seems like they just keep redoubling
their efforts to make you forget why you liked those original Sonic games in the
first place. Yeah, well that games out at the end of next year.
When you've got a guy on stage talking about like, I'm the guy
that runs the Twitter account, Do you like what I'm like, like,
No, wow, No, I do, not, sir interesting anyway,
Yeah, the other game, Yeah, if you want to remember you're nostalgia
for Sonic Sonic Mania is for you. I guess that looks all right.
That looks like an old fucking looked all right? Did Yes? It was
you know way no, No, it was weird, yeah playing it,
Yeah, let's play an old flow weird. But when they've announced it,
just like the announce Sonic Mania, you had people going like, that's a
Tonic bring back, Yeah, Sonic four. Amazing. It didn't look as
true to the classic Sonic Sonic Mania does. Sonic Maia looks like Sonic Media,
looks like a rambo. It looks way beyond that, like fidelity,
wise, sharpness, there's a like still pretty pict quality and stuff like.
They are obviously trying to evoke that stuff, but I'm not making it.
It is not just a modern Genesis game. They've got the three characters the
Matter or the three playable characters the Matter, and then it seems like they're
ignoring all the stupid little you know, Pink Rabbit Friends or whatever, you
know, all those extended Sonic characters that came with Adventure and beyond. I
mean, there's a bunch like a classic Assonic game. There's a bunch of
actual levels from the original games in here. Yeah, from from one,
two, three and Sonic CD. So Christian White has working on this and
he did some of the port work. Yeah, or like Sonic CD,
like when those versions came out relatively recent. Okay, it was because that
guy and Simon Tomley are the two names dropped in this article. And it's
like people that have been, you know, well well known in that specific
scene for caring about the classic Sonic I suppose Okay, I think that's how
that goes. Ok Yeah, they're playing to the bass here is what you're
saying. What bass? It's like what Because watching that stream they announced the
Sonic Mania stuff and then then they kept dropping those and if you like modern
Sonic, we might have something for you. It was like this mind blowing
thing, like there's a split in the thing like modern Sonic classics, Like
what the fuck is wrong with you people? I'm sure there are some active
message words that debate the stuff, surely, Yeah, I bet, uh,
yeah, I bet. It's It was just it was crazy to see
Sonic on display and being celebrated in a way that seemed completely out of step
with like the actual quality of the games over the years. It was like
the celebration of this thing that's been like mostly shit. It was like,
yeah, fucking twenty five years of Sonic. Three of those first three years
were all right, and then there was like one in the middle that maybe
some of you could justify liking, kind of like the first level of that
Dreamcast game. Yes, the first was all. That was first level.
You were like, man, he is going fast. At least most of
that first level, I don't know, but by the end of it is
like when you're running into the camera and the whales behind, you're like,
that whale looks good, but this is not even a video game anymore.
Yeah, uh yeah. Anyway, Sonic Medea has got they're like remixed versions
of stages from those old games. They've also got some like totally new zones
and stuff that's not like a new attack like a dash or whatever the hell
this this seems like a like a Mega Man nine kind of situation. Yeah,
they're really like leaning into there's maybe a little more elaborate than that.
Yeah, yeah, totally. Yeah. The drop dash looks almost like a
butt stomp into into a roll kind of. Yeah, it's just like preloading
the spend Ash. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know he was
there and playable. Oh wow, yeah, yeah, that's out Believe next
screen, yeah, Spring, and then the next the other game is out
Holiday next year. That's an next game. Really Yeah, the Project Sonic
like the end of that trailer, So I joined the Resistance, which is
like the fucking most amazing fucking words you get attached to the end of a
fucking Sonic trailer. And so the TV show is about yeah, yeah,
right, yep, yeah, uh so maybe that fits right in. But
then yeah, it was Xbox one, p S four PC and n X
Oh it's on okay, yeah, right, what are we resisting? Then?
If it's on doctor doctor, gotcha Eggman if you will, Eggy Wait,
which is it? If it had been they clarified it recently. Nick
is like his government name, and then Eggman is his nickname. Egg Man
is what they called him in Japan. Yeah. I don't know about the
split, just on point around the Dreamcast they win with egg Man worldwide.
Right, so Robotnick is his Christian name? Is what you're saying, Yes,
yes, he was born that is his name. Okay. Eggman is
just something people saying just good to know. Now, do you do you
think that they should have gone a similar route with street Fighter at some point,
like having these characters have different names in different territories. Do you think
they should have squared it up and just made that's what I mean around the
world. They happened a final fantasy, you know, where they had to
like finally set the record straight on which is which. Yeah, I'm glad
that we've Yeah, it's across the board like pretty much the same now,
so like it was way confusing, did they actually? I think so?
Okay, so if you buy a Japanese street Fighter five, it's not Vega
anymore. I'm pretty sure. I'm not positive. I don't know. Everybody
just calls them Dictator or you know, yeah, any of the character stuff.
Yeah, I guess it's God, you know, I don't fucking know
now, Yeah, that would be news to me. If they had unified
it. I don't. I don't know that they did, but shit I
didn't. Yeah, I don't know for sure. Yeah, oh my god.
Okay, street Fighter street Fighter is definitely esports. If they're like weird
pet names for all the characters, like that's that's that's that's only it's only
those ones because there's international confusion around which one. When you say Vega,
who are you talking about? Right? Uh, everybody knows what pottam means.
I feel like they should have fixed that problem right around Street Fighter four.
They should have just gone with the Japanese names totally. That would have
been the time. Not calling him Bison would be weird though. Yeah,
just that's why you make our names the real names, and then you're good.
Sure it wasn't. It wasn't the problem originally that you couldn't call the
boxer they were. They were a little afraid of the idea of a Mike
because of a Mike Tyson thing, which I think of why they rotated a
marine in the first place. Uh. Speaking of kind of unexpected retro game
announcements, there's a pac Man Championship Edition two. Yeah. Yeah, that
officially got announced. I think got it got rated at one point, or
the trademark got out or something like the name, but the name had been
floating around a few weeks ago, but they officially came out. And so
here's trailer. It looks good, looks pretty good. Games are great,
Giant Ghosts, it's good Giant ghosts ghosts. Ye, so yeah, I
couldn't tell from the trailer if that's like a straight up boss fight or if
that was more of a cut scene kind of thing. But there are there
is a fucking there's a ghost almost the size of the board in the in
that thing. And there were shots where pac Man like leaves the board and
like like slams unto the ghost in space some stuff. It also seems like,
you know, you know how the mazes would change when you would eat
the fruits and stuff like that. It seems like like now like you'll see
the amazing like coming out of the background of slamming the new one out of
the way and you're kind of into this new spot and stuff like this just
sounds it looks really man. Also, I really appreciate that they didn't just
call the ceed X two. Yeah, they went back to Championship edition,
added to two, and then that leaves the door open for more d X
version of this. Yeah, they're gonna double the clock speed. I am.
I am constantly like stunned at how well they have handled the pac Man
franchise and revitalized it periodically, keeping it true to the concept of like way
back then like CE and the cd X were amazing games, Like two fifty
six is really good to the New Adventures. Yeah, yeah, Drew,
you can't say that without doing the pac Man voice. What you're talking about,
do the Second Genesis Pacman voice. They just they've just been so smart
with it, you know, like like those those two downloadable games came in
at just the right time in the right format, and then like two fifty
six capitalized on they found a really great way to take the Pacman mechanics and
put them into non pac Man games, because those games kind of aren't pac
Man anymore, but the concepts are still. Yeah, the concepts are there
where you're like, you know, yeah, those base things are there,
but it's not about like, hey, I'm gonna try to play for as
long as i can perfect game. You know what. Whatever your goals were
in original pac Man, they can't all be pac Land. You know.
It's true. There have been some real fucking bad pac Man games over the
years. Which one did you have the hang glider in that that was pack
Land? Probably? Probably, oh, yeah, that might have been.
Yeah, they did that puzzle game Higher Higher, that's what they say during
the I believe you I want maybe we should build that ratio of like good
to bad pac Man games. Sonic the Hedgehog suggests there like super classics like
pac Man at his best is better than Sonic the Hedgehog at his Best?
Are you no doubt? Are you suggest a ranking of pac Man professor pac
Man number one? It's a game? What more do you need? Hanley
Man? Do we count the ramhacks and bootlegs and stuff in the arcades pac
Man in the title pucke? No? All right, well, I still
want Namco to expand their Champion Edition stuff too. More of their franchises they
did like Legions and X were not good game, and they tried that with
like Centipede, they did some XBLA that's not new version that that thing was
the Yeah, the stainless steel games like Warlords and Centipede, those were fucking
terrible. Yeah, Dick Doug Championship Edition. Yeah, I think there's something
to be said for, like, let's pump up a thousand fucking poo because
it wants like like some of the ideas of pac Man Championship editions set into
dig dug or like rally X. You probably do Bosconian, you know,
like there's just they've always handled their classic franchises really well, because like,
way before they were doing all the mid Way Arcade collections and all the XBLA
stuff Namco Museum yea for PlayStation one, they were putting out those collections.
That was awesome back then, they were doing that way before. Yeah.
The thing I would say though, is that those games that were rereleased in
Namco Museum are the games they just keep rereleasing over and over again. Yeah,
I feel like there are games in the Namcoke catalog that don't get rereleased
as all. Like they just put those four games out on PS four,
right, and yeah, there's like here you go, here's another way to
buy dig Dug all right, Yeah, Okay, they made a there's a
Galagha ticket redemption machine that looks like a big I think it's I think it
may have come out on iOS also or something, but it was it's like,
you're it's like Galaga challenging stages boiled down onto this big you know,
have you seen like the Flappy Bird Kaid cabinets that are just like like jump,
Yeah, it's it's one of those. Wow. But for Galaga with
this giant Joystick. I saw it. It's super weird, but there's a
mother ship you fight at the end of it. It just looked crazy.
Does it use like the art styles Gaga does? And if you get the
mother's ship you get like double tickets, So like that almost looks like a
base for if you were to make a new like a Galaga champions Yeah,
because, like I know, Legions wasn't amazing, but like I would give
one of my toes for a really good Gallagher remaker. Yeah, some kind
of Galaga Legiance had like its own art style and as other stuff going on,
it was kind of a different and they did the like classic art style
stuff and it's still just played weirdly. Yeah, it wasn't terrible. No,
it wasn't terrible. The second one was better than the first, thank
Yeah, but it was nowhere near as good as like the way they did
Pac Man the Championship stuff. Yeah. The game's coming out in September.
Also cool. That's that's alarmingly soon. Yeah, that's September. Sounds like
the far flung future. But shit, man close like a little over a
month, you know what, You know what, Madden will be out sooner
than you think Yeah, you're right, Madden is coming. That's why I'm
fitting in a vacation while I can, because Madden returns for good month or
so. Oh yeah, totally. Yeah. No, when Madden comes back,
it's I mean, you're going on the competitive circuit. Yeah, I'm
e Madden all the way. Indeed, all right, for our next story,
I am going to throw to our chief Chicago correspondent, Jeff Gersman,
all right, live from the Windy City. Yeah, that's right. I'm
out here in Chicago. It's going on. No one can see me because
they can't see this is all rigged, a fake, But here I am
in Chicago. Jeff. What's it like where? Well, it's crazy out
here. Video games are going to be developed in Chicago. Again. Well
that's another great question. So this Adam Boys, formerly of PlayStation their third
party production. They're the vice president of publisher relations. It's the crash bandicoot.
Sure guy, right, Nope, nope, he left. Sony relatively
recently said he was looking to focus on getting back into game development, and
then he went and sign up with Iron Galaxy out in Chicago. Yeah,
so I guess maybe they're gonna make games. No there, Yeah, he's
going to be the CEO of Iron Galaxy, which we had Dave Lang of
Iron Galaxy on this podcast a couple of weeks ago, former CEO now founder
and see three po see three pos. Isn't say that on the business cards,
I imagine, I don't. That doesn't sound like a real title to
me, but he tweeted it. He didn't. The CEO a CPO,
yes, a CPO yes. Yeah. Chelsea Blasco has been with the company
for a long time is now the chief product officer. Uh yeah. So
that's all business ramblings and sit shifts and all that sort of stuff. But
I think the upshot of it is is a lot like what what Lank said
when he was here talking about, you know, kind of other opportunities for
the company. Is it sounds like that they've got, you know, this
kind of work that they do all the time for kind of porting games to
either platforms or you know, kind of coming in on games and working on
them for a while. The other people's games that need you know, they're
yeah, the mercenaries of the y, they need commandos. They need someone
to just air drop onto a game and six it or whatever it is.
Uh yeah, and that's that's been a big part of their business for the
eight years or so that they've been around. And yeah, they've done a
few of their own games over the years, and it sounds like they want
to grow that part of their business, and so Adam is coming in to
kind of lead or help lead the charge on on that front. Uh.
And so there was announcement and you know, the interview ran Adventure Beat today.
Uh. And it sounds like that they've got games in the works that
are not announced, So they're they're working on some stuff. I suspect this
means that you will see them try to push into bigger things than they've been
doing in the past. If you look at the games that had like the
Iron like Iron Galaxy published, it's been you know, like stuff like Video
Ball just came out, smaller kind of stuff. Yeah. Yeah, it's
been you know, like Recketeer, Dive Kick, you know, caps Force,
this sort of stuff, some of which they developed themselves, some of
which they partnered with people that were developing it or you know, co developed
that sort of stuff. I think what this will end up meaning is you
will probably see some bigger sized games from them down the line, and you
know, like Adam's a guy that in his position at Sony probably did a
lot of business deals and saw a lot of numbers and knows a lot about
how that stuff works. Uh, in a way that would probably be super
advantageous if you were suddenly on the publisher side tried to do those deals from
the other end. So that's I suspect that that's uh. You know,
they talk about leveraging their strengths and stuff like that, like they I don't
know they've I su Yeah, like I said, I think we'll see some
bigger things from them down the line. Well if the press photos they released
starting to go, those are bigger things, right, they are poised to
take over the world. The wedding photographers they hired for that thing to not
get enough money. I don't know what they paid them. I don't know
what. It was amazing photos, very top they found to get the skyline
shot that way. But man, I've got a new wallpaper from my phone.
It's just a blown up image of Dave Lank's face. Yeah, it's
a big doofy one with no hat. The best of the three, all
the three of them, is amazing. That is a really some mixtape cover
right there, they're the new Fujis. You can tell how proud of it
Lang is in that picture. He knows if it's going to come out,
is exactly so happy he's done. You can want to present see that.
Yeah. Uh yeah, so I you know, I think I think that
this is a this is a smart move for them, uh you know,
kind of having having known them for a while and kind of knowing kind of
where their heads are at and kind of what they're lining up to do,
what they're how they're they're kind of thinking about it. It seems really smart.
Uh. I think. Yeah. You saw some people, you know,
they were like, oh man, going from PlayStation to some publisher,
Like that's a step down, Like, yeah, CEO not not when you're
running a coach. This is kind of how it works is you get up
to a certain level of the big company, then go run another company and
then you know, either you stay there and do your thing or but that's
a huge resume builder of like hey, I've been a CEO of a company
of over one hundred employees, but now let's come back in Yeah not a
C three po I mean yeah, Either either to go run a small company
and make it huge, or then you have CEO on your resume, Yeah,
and you go run a bigger coupital. You know, there's all kinds
of options from that. That's just a you know, like from a career
angle, I think that that's that's probably smart too. But but I think
from the business angle and the types of products that it will that they'll kind
of grow to make, I think that makes a lot of sense with where
they're at right now. I look forward to seeing what those goofballs get up
to. Yeah, Yes, that'll be fun to watch, for sure.
They that much is I think they'll make they'll make it fun to watch one
way or the other. Indeed, definitely. All right, last story I've
got it's there's not a lot else to say here, but it's just a
little to follow up on the steam item gambling stuff from last week. Cease
and desist letters went out to twenty three mostly counterstrike gambling sites. Yeah,
and like one Dodo one, the one that I used actually the ones man.
Yeah, I know, Okay, so I've got I've got the letter
in front of me. But you know, it's it's pretty standard stuff,
like it's they're they're they're following up or they're following through on what they said
they could do. They're telling them to cease and yes, also desist.
Yes, they asked those sites to stop operating immediately. But three yeah,
jeez, that dude, the amount of money that I have heard is tied
up in the world of cso item gambling is unthinkable, is a legal cease
and assists kind of just like a nice way of being like, hey,
why don't you be cool and take this down? Or basically that it's like
going to court. It's that shot across the valve of like, hey,
you can't do this, and we're telling you to, not giving you a
chance, and before we go to court, and if you stop, then
we're cool. Yeah okay, yeah, we are not going to sue you
yet, but if you don't stop doing what we say you should stop doing
the warning shot. Yeah okay, yeah yeah. Twitch has gotten on board
with the stuff too, like they have also clamped down dramatically on this stuff,
like well after Valve did yeah they yeah, they a way that like
they moved after like ceremonial or kind of. Yeah, but they have banned
some streamers. Okay that we're involved with the stuff. But they haven't really
said much about you know, why or for how long or whatever. But
yeah, they just want people to gamble in cheer points. Yes, yeah,
uh so yeah that that stuff seems to be going away for real.
Well see I will. I saw the list of sites that got this notification
and went and looked at a few of them, and or maybe this was
before the season assist went out, but I went and looked at a couple
of these sites last week, and every single one of the sites I looked
at said like, we are not shutting down. There's features that are probably
offline interesting, but we're bringing those features back. Everything's fine, Do not
panic like it. It seemed like very much thislike everything's gonna be cool.
We will keep doing what we're doing. Just we didn't need to make some
adjustments to be in line with what Valve saying. But we're still going to
be here doing stuff, which I don't know how much of that is like
legit, and how much of that is like please don't withdraw then you have
from us because we can't actually cover it, or because I meant they pay
out money right, or they pay out other items. The DODA gambling stuff
I did just paid out other items. Yeah, but at that point,
like, I don't see what's so wrong about it, But are they pay
out diamonds then you convert into you walk to the store next door exactly.
Yeah, chinko thing still holds up. Yeah. I don't know what the
nature of that stuff is, but it did seem like that of the sites
had postings saying like everything's fine. Yeah, I wonder if they'll find a
way to circument that stuff. I am. We have to keep an eye
on it. Uh, that twenty three news sites will pop up, that's
true, right, exactly. That's there's probably too much money involved in this
for to all go away completely. Will set up in some weird territory and
try to try to keep it going on the kind of Strike and Go island
set up on the Caymans or something. Counterstrike finds a way it always has.
Uh, that's it for news. Let's do bladder check. I'm good?
Are wow? Really? Yeah? And you drink most of that three
of these today? I'm good? Jeez. Wow. You guys want to
just keep going, then sure, let's keep going. Then let's three to
emails. Yeah, podcast at giant bomb dot com is the email address.
Okay, where you send them? All? Right? What's an email?
I gotta say it? Everything? Is that like a snapchat? Just in
case people don't know, do I snap it with words and permanent? I
send you pictures of my nude crotch and then you read it on the air.
If you make wrong people mad and Russia will take them from you.
And I need those emails. Give them to the world topical. Very nice.
Yes, Jonathan from Sugarland's Texas writes in sugar Land, Yeah, I'm
like, wow cool. Jeff has mentioned Go Go thirteen a few times and
videos and podcasts. From what I could tell, he really loved the NS
games. But have any of y'all actually watched or read the series. I
started watching the series from the movie to the anime TV series, and holy
shit, take James Bond, make him a professional hit man and watch him
become a living three sixty no scope, Yeah, it's yeah. Every stuff
is fucking bananas, is like in a good way. Like every single time
you see Duke Togo out doing dirt, it is always fucking the impossible shot
and he's got to go fucking spend four hours getting a new gun made,
and while the guy's making the gun. Duke Togo's making love to a woman,
and then he gets the gun and then goes and shoots the guy and
then it's over. It's just like you thought the game was. Like the
game had. The game had some some allusions to sex in it. At
the time, you were like, fucking yeah, man, I'm like early
kind of rudimentary cuts scene type stuff, right, yeah, yeah, kind
of see. So that's moving together, yeah, and then gets dark.
He gets all his fucking health back. That's a really good name, Like
it's better than James Bond. There's a live action goal Go movie that I
really want that I that I bought. It's it's unfortunate because the movie came
out on Blu Ray in Japan, but that doesn't have the English dub on
it or subtitles or anything like that. From what I've seen, it's like
Charles Brown the last time it came out in the US. It's this fucked
up transfer that just looks like dog shit and just but I think I'm I'm
watching that one too. Yeah, I bought it. I bought it off
eBay for bringing bring a lot of money. So yeah, once I'm once,
I finally watch it. I'll bring it in for you. Uh.
Yeah, there's been was it like the Queen Bee? There's another like movie
length there, Like I think there's like two movie length animated features, uh
and I watched both of those. One was better than the other. I
forget which was which though, and then the Yeah, there's a series also
which uh seems like it might be pretty good too. To Duke Togo,
it's a raw motherfucker he looks at too. Yeah. Yeah. One of
the one of the ones, the one of the animated features is like at
one point he's fucking run around the jungle and fucking's fighting. It's fucked up,
man, It's yeah, it's it's there's kind of kind of nothing happens.
Also, like that's maybe the other secret of some of this stuff is
like all of it seems very just kind of like he's just gonna be silent
and he's gonna fucking get his gun and he's gonna make his love and he's
gonna murder and and that's what he took exactly. That's what he does.
It's just that over and over again from what I can tell. And that's
all right, So you know what you're signing up for Yeah, and they
are linked to deliver h Elliott from Scotland. While looking at the history of
the awesome yet doomed Dreamcast, a game came to my attention called Sega Gaga.
Yeah, a game so insane and indicative of the state of Sega at
the time that it defies belief. I wondered if any of you guys had
ever had the chance to play it or have any memories of it, is
of its release and reception? Did it come out here? It did not,
Okay. I bought a copy of it, and it looks I looked
it up. It looks Yeah. Second, guy, guys, is insane.
It's like exactly a fan RPG, you know, kind of just just
like pulling together all of these references to Sega past and present from your Segata
san Shiro's and I assume he's in there. Uh. And what happened to
Alex Kid? Yeah? Yeah, Kid in there? I believe. Yeah.
Like it just looked like the screenshots just like just look like a mashup
of like, see what it is. It's a master up of all this
Sega stuff put into an RPG. Uh. I think I talked about it
on the on the podcast before. Yeah, somebody from Sega like translated that
stuff and sent it over to Game Informer, and I put together a video
of like, you know, some subtitled section of like Alex kidd oh wow
from that game. It's out there on YouTube somewhere. But yeah, that
was my first experience with Sega guy. Yeah, I'll never heard of it,
and yeah, yeah, no, when that game came out, it
was it was you know, when we were in the height of going to
Tokyo a lot of times per year, So of course I ended up with
a copy of it, uh, and it just looked awesome, but also
was all the way in Japanese. Uh. That was actually one of the
games when I was kind of at my height of like, man, I
should finally just learn Japanese, finally learned to read this shit. That was
actually the game. You'd be amazed, like how it started me on that
path of like man, I should do this, and I fell away from
it and whatever. But like you you'd be amazed how little you need to
learn to actually make like a huge difference exactly. Yeah, Like it's just
pretty simple the stuff that you would need to know just to look just kind
of learn like what like hiragana and yeah, the basic those basic alphabet but
then also like you know, the kind of kind of stuff is just like
English words, right and you know transliterated, so like it's like, oh,
I can tell what opt, how to read options, you know,
like that stuff like that is super useful. Yeah. Yeah, so I
thought about doing that for that game, but just never never did. Uh.
It sounds like there was some efforts in going in to trying to like
fan translate it, but I don't know how far that actually got. Does
that work? Like I know, the Dreamcast got so incredibly busted opened in
terms of piracy and stuff like right, there's homebrew and all that stuff.
Yeah, yeah, it would just take them doing the work. Yeah.
Yeah, it sounds sounds like a pretty dense game though. Yeah, that
seems like it would be a pretty big undertaking. I don't know if it
ever do. I don't know where that project ended up, but that would
be fun to see that game spring came in. It's like the opening of
it, we would not be able to get too far, well what does
the gameplay still make it effort? We mentioned it, we would not be
able to get that far yeah, it's uh yeah, I hit some language
barriers pretty early on. Okay, but maybe you remember just enough to get
us by there's some people in this office. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
maybe we could just sit someone down with us and and walk through some
of it. But yeah, as your go too, you're willing out somebody
here. Oh boy, uh probably Alexa okay, Justin Haywald, Yeah,
okay, just Peter Nohaney, I bet. Yeah, but he's got he
knows enough to to haggle a pency. That was enough to get more copies
of Gradius. Yeah, I always need more. Yeah. Uh, here's
an email from Drew No thanks, sure, a different I mean totally Drew
Scandal that wrote this Hellogi bomb. Me and my friends were browsing Wikipedia to
try to see if Matt Pinfield was still alive. Oh yeah, okay,
I'm pretty sure he is. We noticed a band named Headboard played on his
show farm Club. I was wondering if it was that Headboard and if so,
are there any stories and word video proof things I was? I mean
that aired on USA. I was at a Nintendo event in Seattle. It
was a for Ocarina. I guess they had a scavenger Hunt around Seattle around
that time, and I remember watching that. This was after I was out
of that band, And I remember watching that show and watching all these reduced
pieces of Matt Pinfield in Pedaluma with the rest of these people while we're in
this band I used to be in and watching the way that that band was
presenting itself on this mainstream stage and just shaking my head in utter fucking disast.
Wild. I think Alex might have been out of the band by then.
Two. He might have neither of you guys. Maybe he was.
Maybe he was in the band. Okay, maybe he was. He may
have met Matfield, he may have met one who can say he's not from
around there? Is he? No? Okay? No? No, So
yeah, this was. This was after I was out of the band.
I chose the video game things and not the band that seemed to desperately want
to get signed and would be willing to change anything about the music they were
making to get there. I see, Yeah, basically, so that's just
yeah. They did technically open for Eminem and Doctor Dre though. That was
the very first episode of that Farm Club show, and as I understand it,
it was so farm Club as a website, and it was like this
like contest of like, you know, bands trying to win this contest.
And I think they won the contest to get on the show, and they
were actually owed a bunch of money that I don't think they ever got because
the whole thing kind of just blew up not long after that. Uh but
yeah, yeah, no, they they went and did that thing, and
I remember sitting in a hotel room and watching it and just going on,
fuck that, man, what the fuck? Yeah you guys you were there
for the run DMC show. So that was after I was out of the
band. Came back as a one night only thing because they needed someone who
could wrap. Okay. I always thought that was cool to be able to
tell somebody that opened. That was indeed pretty cool. And yeah, we
did a reunion show in Pedaluma like three years ago or something like that.
It was fun to get everybody back together and and do it. Uh yeah.
Also, I'm super depressed that people are now We're not at the point
where people are wondering if Matt Penfield is still alive or not, which means
that everybody got old. Matt Penfield seems like the sort of person that will
be around forever, whether you like it or not. It's also true,
Uh, he's not from Pedaluma, but you know who is who not a
rider? Yeah. I found that out in the in the course of my
kind of hot You on a Stranger Stranger Things. I'm about here for a
week, I am I'm two episodes from Shah people. So it's really good.
People would very, very very occasionally see her around downtown. It didn't
seem like she was around that much. In fact, I would say I've
seen Bam Marjara around Palm or all right. In fact, I've one,
definitely seen Bam around Pedaluma more than one on a rider, because I think
Bam was with someone who was from Pedaloumas. Around the holidays. They would
come to town. And so if you were hanging out downtown Bam Marjara which
opened the bar you were drinking out, and you'll look over and go nice,
ok, guy, All right, she's bad. No, no,
no, he gonna travel with any of the rest of the family. Cindy
Crawford was spotted at a twenty nine super grocery store and Wassa, Wisconsin once.
Yeah, my friend's sister dated Jake Busey, So I spent a Thanksgiving
dinner with Jake Busey. Nice, that's that's better than Cindy Crawford. That's
dark. We saw Benjamin brad at a gas station once. That's pretty cool.
Yeah right, that's not bad. That's not bad. Metal Edge of
Wood waiting in the line for Star Wars. Okay, that's what I got.
We saw Jeremy Piven in a parking lot in la and he seemed like
a dick. Yeah, I would believe check Out. Yeah, uh yeah,
you should watch that show. Yeah. I go to She's She's super
good and it yaha. Soundtrack is so good. Yeah, yeah, I
wish they'd put the score out. It's I think it's m what does it
survive? Isn't the band? I think? Uh, I'm not sure if
they put that actual score out. So I don't think what is the show?
What it is? It is like what it is a it's an eight
episode like intense nostalgia trip throwback to It's like a mashup of like Stephen King
and like a lot of eighties Burke stuff. I heard some people invoke freaks
and geeks a little bit, A little bit. I mean, it's like
when you when you do that, you have to put in some teen drama.
Yeah right, yeah, yeah, there's some of that. But yeah,
I would say there's some of that, and that's kind of by the
numbers. It's very eighties. Not a strong point of that show. It's
it's very eighties, like kind of weird monster movie Spielberger, Steven came some
a little bit of John Carpenter like in look and feel and stuff like that.
It's it's it's real good. I would call it like a loving homage
and not like an annoying like winking and Dutch like remember the eighties awesome like
it. It's it's not Armada, right right, yeah, no, it's
not. It's not like a reference fest like it's it feels. It feels
pretty much like it could have been plucked from that era and and like it
it holds up. Uh, that's it. I I think they should stop.
I think it ends so well that they should just not make any more
of it. But it's so popular that they totally will even stranger things.
They could call it the thing like strangest things like that that may even call
that is where do you? Yes? That's like I think it should totally
be an anthology kind of thing, because the name even sounds like Amazing Stories
or something like that, where like every season should be like a different mystery
and stuff work for things worked for True Detective. Well that's the thing,
you kid, You gotta you gotta nail a premise every every new season with
that format. So that's tough. That second season. Didn't even watch it,
So so just don't eisod doing a third right? No? Are they
not? No? They put out a DVD said and it says a True
Detective the Complete series. Jeez man. Yeah, the second one was fucking
terribly. Went from on top of the world to yeah, the first season
is one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen. Second one say,
impenetrable. Yeah, terrible. All right, there's an email from Adam
twelve will be the next three fight or five character bookt Okay, many both
and spies were ridiculed to bring us this information. That is the entirety of
the clandestine email. But do you think sure, why? Like why not?
At this point they're leaning heavily into you know, a Sert Fighter three
stuff. So sure jury is out today? Right? Yeah? Jury came
out today? She the second to last year. Yes, yeah, the
last one. The last one. Jury is still an awesome Jerry is still
out still Ye yeah, it's Jerry duty today. Okay, I just got
summons yesterday. Jerry, you do so jealous. Everyone keeps getting I want,
Yeah, you want to serve on a jury. I think they'd be
super fi. I agree, like it's it's it's always comes with the worst
time, But if all other things being equal, I would love to be
like some crazy of a case is pet seems like, you know, if
I ever if I ever get to a point where I get to retire,
I'm just gonna try to be on as many churches as Yeah. The first
year of the I think it was the first year of the site, or
maybe the second year. I got a summons and made it to the final
round of selection on what was going to be a month long murder travel Oh
man, and were you kind of excited? But also like this was a
month this was less than two weeks. I was. I guess it would
have been the first year because this was less than two weeks before TGS.
Oh yeah, yeah, it was the year we wants TGS. Yeah,
I was like, I gotta go to Japan. I had to write that.
I had to write like a thing to the judge saying I got a
business trip. I can't. Yeah, I had to do that for E
three last year. I think you were ducking them for a while, weren't
you. Yeah, yeah, yep, I had. I did the call
in thing or from the from the website deferral, and then I had from
my second deferral, which was the E three one ahead to go in and
then like sit through the thing, and but I got out of it.
It's like completely sabotage your your chances. I mean, if you just get
in there and start like espousing racist views and monster person was actually committing a
felony, that'll that'll work. Yeah, we just all become felons. I've
got time solved a lot of problem again. So I was talking to somebody
about that over the weekend who said that if you say you don't trust expert
testimony, that's a good way to, okay, get excluded, because you
know, both sides of the the defense and the prostitution, have like rights
of refusal in terms of who I think will be a good jury. So
why would you say you wouldn't trust it? Because you don't want to be
on because that's a trick to get out of being But there's no like actual
reason you would say that, right, dude, I don't try to take
the world around you and tell me if there aren't a lot of people who
don't believe expert testimony, good point, good point, or you could do
your civic duty. Damn. Yeah, like I want to. I'm saying
these people are insane. I don't. I ain't got time for this ship.
That's the that's that's the the push and pull. I would love to
do it, but I don't. It sounds super interesting and I would love
to be, like, you know, associated with something that's really really interesting.
But man, that's I gotta take time off from work. Yeah.
I only want to be on a case if it's attached to an A list
director. Yeah, you know, if it's like a good like a good,
like double homus. I don't like. At least you want to get
sequestered for six months. Oh yeah, get paid your twelve bucks a day?
Hell yeah? Is it twelve bucks? I think it varies by I'm
back in a right. I have a friend of mine just had a dry
duty in Texas rec and they paid him less than his parking cost every day.
So exactly how does that work with like, you know, people have
jobs. If there's some like laws, yeah you have to so you can't
like so people keep getting paid from their real not necessarily I think especially,
and again it probably very different, but yeah, it also probably varies by
locality. Would you guys still pay me if I went I don't know the
CBS policy on jury duty, but if you periscope, I bet, I
bet you totally would still get paid. I want it for two weeks.
I want to I want to say. I want to say people that are
paid an hourly wage or screwed, like if your salary to keep getting paid,
but if you're not working hours then you're kind of just yeah. But
I think the only time your employer can kind of raise a stink around it
or do anything is in these situations where it's like, hey there's a trip
book, Hey there's like a you know, like extra circumstances around it where
you are vital to the running of a business, Like if you were a
sole proprietor of a two person business and you were like this, I have
a hard ship. It's I like one person cannot run this thing for like
they will, Like, that's what I That's what I said in that murder
case. I think I was like, hey, we're a four person startup.
I'm a quarter of this thing. Like I can't really afford to miss
this. Do they feed you as well? If you get sequestered, they're
doing something for you. But I think like normally like they may do lunch,
but this, okay, all right, I might I might do that.
I think I think your twelve dollars is supposed to go towards feeding your
lunch on your days. That won't even that won't. I think also,
you can't use the internet sequestered. If you're sequestered, supposed to be really
cut off from all media access. And yeah, I think that's the idea.
I put my phone in airplane mode. Yeah basically okay for yeah,
as long as it takes. I don't know if the adventure time I'll still
work, then all right, pros and cons to doing your civic DA must
be done. Uh. Here's an email from Corey in Pennsylvania. Last week,
you mentioned that the NES version of Tetris isn't the best version. This
raises the question, what is the best version. I recently built a retro
pie and have been hankering from some Tetris. I'm mostly going to be playing
alone, so pet Tetris Battle Guiding probably isn't for me. I don't know
what is the best Tetris. I don't know if that best single player Tetris.
I mean that ten Getting Tetris is probably all right. I never isn't
that the n S one, that's the the weird black car. Yes,
Tetris is the game Boy one, the highest selling one, probably everyone had
that Probably probably Tetris DS is really good. That one's great, really good.
Yeah. The next Tetris for End sixty four was good because that's got
a that's got a meta game to it where every line you complete goes towards
building like the seven uh monuments like that. Cool, so you're you're kind
of building stuff as you play. That might be probably play alone, but
that's that's a good four player game as well. I totally forgot about Tetris
DS. Yeah, that's probably my favorite ever, although a lot of that
was around the multiplayer features, and it sounds like he's not going to be
doing that right. Just it's still just I think if you Tetris like the
ones that get played and you know for speed Run and you know in the
awesome games None Quick and stuff like that, like when they're doing those are
like Tetris, Grand Master Ace like those the Yeah, those those arcade games
are probably well tuned for single player play. I can see that. Yeah.
Well, and actually, like Puyo Puyo, Tetris has enough with the
two blending of game modes going on that like there's I don't know, I
thought there was enough to to keep you going, even single player classic,
and it's got a whole campaign that kind of mixes all the different types.
Like that's a it's a big game. Ain't gonna run your retro pie.
But you could import that game that never came out. No, no,
no, it's a license thing. Right. Oh man, he's got it
here. That's a bummer. I should come out. Yeah, I've been
thinking about, Yeah, putting like a retro pie. And we've got that
X arcade like two players joystick. Is that the one that three five is
running in right now? No? No no, no, no no no.
This is a over by my desk. Actually, not one of the
cabinets here, not one of the cabinets. No, it's it's small like
two player units. Like it's like a control surface for like people running mame,
like two players set up and all this other stuff. It's it's hooks
up through the keyboard. Yeah, yeah, yeah I can. There's lots
of different hookups. But yeah, I was thinking about like putting a raspberry
pie in there. HDMI out self contained little units. Yeah, thats cool.
That could be neat, do it. It could be neat. Think
about We've got a raspberry pie powering these screens around our floor that are like
showing like stats and web server load and all this other stuff. So I've
just grabbed one of those because everybody every day I think about the one that's
right behind me and think like I need to pop the SD card out,
installed cooler shit on it, and then just turn this TV into a fun
zone. I learned about raspberry pie because probably five or six months ago,
somebody in the office I think it was tied or someone was like, hey,
they're giving out free raspberry pies down on like second mission. I was
like sweet, and so I went down there and I did not I had
never heard of what raspberry pie was. I was expecting to get us slice
of pie, and they were giving out little microchip things that doesn't fucking pie
And I came home with nothing. He didn't even wait to get one.
I don't remember. I had to do some dumb thing or tweet something.
I remember that happening, and they totally wanted you to like yeah, and
I wasn't gonna do that. I just want to pie. Yeah. Also,
those things are like thirty bucks, like it's yeah. Also, I
would have no idea how Also, yeah, they take some doing. I
mean that's all. It's a lot easier than it was. But I've got
a first chen one. I still love it. Yeah, I've got an
older one. Yeah, someone sent in in a mailbag. Someone sent in
an older one that I messed around with for a while. Turned mine into
a bootleg airplay Yeah okay, yeah that's kind of fun. I took Dru's
advice and turned my Kindle Fire into an awesome emulator machine. Yeah that's so
weird. I did the same thing actually, yeah, the same weekend without
know when we were doing that. Yeah, it's great. A little Bluetooth
controller. Yeah, I got some flights coming up, so it'd be great
for that. Cool, cool, emulation. It's I think about it a
lot, you do, Actually, yeah, that's have for about twenty years
now, thought about it a lot, was it? Uh yeah, ever
since Nesticle basically yeah, Freeesticle nescal was mind blowing. Yeah, it was
like for a lot of reasons, Passo Fami before that, an e nest
and stuff like that that were like like shareware things like Passo Family only played
stuff in yellow and only played Map zero books. Having that icon was as
amazing for the icon as it was just Mario. It was an iconic emulator.
It really true. It changed everything. Yeah, was it on the
podcast or we're just sitting around the office when you were talking about that in
sixty four emulation stuff recently that's sitting around Yeah, so that they're yeah,
they're using Vulcan to move to like low level emulation of the Nintendo sixty four.
They've basically been hacking support on a per game basis for in sixty four
and all this plug in based stuff that's always just seemed really JANKI. Uh
So the lib retro people, the retro archs people have a Vulcan based U
emulator core for the n sixty four out Now that it seems to be doing
it, and I'm trying to do it in a more accurate way, which
is fascinating. Vulcan seems to be doing a lot for that type of emulation.
Uh, in a way that I never would have known. Yeah,
that's because why would I because I'm not a technical person. But but Vulcan
seems like it's leading some very interesting moves around that stuff. Yeah, stuffs
exciting, uh, Ian sends in an email that I think is awesome.
I really enjoyed this email of the week. Yep, pretty much. Brad,
Jeff, and Jason. Your presumption that fighting games are one in the
mind and do not rely as heavily on your ability to react was fairly spot
on. I just wanted to add a fun bit of info in your discussion.
You brought up the Diego Perry video and how he likely already knows the
proper timing to perform that particular Perry. You're spot on with this assumption,
but the real beauty in this moment comes from Diego knowing exactly when Justin would
attempt to chip out with the super Yeah. Yeah. In third Strike,
the way that Chun superworks is that it comes out so fast and travels such
a far distance that in order to Perry the first hit, you already need
to be pressing forward the input for Perry before the super flash freezes the screen.
Digo was expecting Justin to throw out a random super because he is very
quickly moving back and forth from a range well outside of Chun's farthest normal.
Digo knew well before the Perry the exact input he needed to win against what
his opponent was likely to do. Digo had already beaten Justin before the flash
of the super at that point. Is just muscle memory. Yeah, I
guess that's that's like super. That's such an iconic moment. It's like,
you know, it's the springboard for you know, a lot of people getting
into the scene, and you know, the clip gets passed around. They
showed it on ESPN, they showed it coming back from break like, they
did show it during the like never gets hired watching it. It's it's so
much fun. Yeah, it gives me goose bumps. And I don't know,
I don't know from fighting games, but just then A god. I
liked that they had that in that challenge mode for U for that rerelease of
Third st they said like, hey, try and do it. Yep,
did you ever do it? Nope, I got all right at us,
Yeah I got try to do it on our extra life stream and she yeah
she got mind close but that's cool. But yeah, god, I still
thinking about that moment. Just try and put it into contacts. You know,
you know this is you know, Grand Finals, you know this last
round. God damn it to have that. I mean, anybody can look
at that, Like the Drew was saying, you know, you don't have
to know all the nuances of street fighter to look at the life bars and
realize that he is coming from a way behind and eken that one out and
more importantly the crowd reactions and they don't have to know anything to realize that's
something crazy is happening there. Yes, people got hype, Yes, a
little bit, Yes, hyping a little bit of hype. Hype increased that
day, for sure, Hype was born that Yep. Andrew from Bloomington,
Illinois sends in a weird email, pop Pop. If wolves became hyper intelligent
and killed us all, do you think they'd all be doing our jobs in
a couple of years, like Wolf Uber Driver and Wolf Paint salesman. Yeah,
wolves can't drive cars. You don't think so? If even a smart,
hyper intelligent wolves, how long they would build cars that will little wolf
cars? You know they would eventually? Wait, would they have even if
they're super smart? Like dolphins are super smart, but they don't have vocal
cords? Are they gonna be able to talk and like, hey, we're
gonna put together a car factory and make a little wolf cars. Yeah,
they find a way. I don't think so. I don't think so.
I think they'd just be really smart wolves. You're also you're also the guy
that thought you could successfully fight a wolf, though, so I'm not so
sure. I stand by that. Not sure. I want to see that.
What would you be armed? With the things on my person? It's
like my keys, So I guess I would just have to like get it
on the ground and put my forearm across its neck and then like stab it
in the brain with my keys, or punch it in the head until its
brain was dead, or stab its eyes. Uh, you know you gotta
fight dirty wolves that balls, right, you can kick on the balls.
It's probably adds effective with a wolf as it is with a man. Yeah,
I think i'd be fine. I've never been in a fight with a
human, but I bet I could take a wolf. I see no reason
to think otherwise. I think. I think you just figured out your next
stunt video. Okay, yeah, I want to shoot that. Set it
up? How far can I getting? Mario three? Wolf is on you,
let's see. Jeremy from Wisconsin writes in about Contra one. It was
briefly noted that Contra one is missing from the classic ne NES mini lineup.
The game has never been resold in a standalone digital form for seemingly no reason.
The arcade version was an early XPLA release, and ne NES superc as
well as SNES Contra three are both available on the E three S and e
U. The MSX two version of Contra one is available on the WE and
we U in Japan only. Even more unusual is that the NES version of
Contra one is unlockable in the DS release of Contra four. This is the
only time it's been officially playable on a non NES system, except for a
PC compilation release in the nineties. There's there's a lot of speculation about imagery
being too similar to the movie Aliens or contractual disputes with an original developer,
but neither makes sense considering the inclusion in Contra four. It's one of the
most popular in NES games, so there must be a real reason why Kanami
keeps excluding it and isn't selling it on virtual console. Any ideas or connections
you can leverage, No one works at Konami, anyone. Actually, I
did get an email from Kanami, from someone representing Konami asking us if we
wanted to go play their soccer game. Which what do you say? I
said, no, thank you? And why don't they invite us to go
play that m G S three machinko machine. Yes, I would go look
at that. I just send us one for sure. Yeah, they're not
putting that on the US, I know. Yeah, this is like a
weird, weird little retro mystery. It might just be maybe maybe it's just
a situation where by that game being so known for its thirty lives code,
it's just too easy. But they have to it'd be easy money. It's
popular. They wouldn't turn down that money because it's too easy. Maybe they're
putting it onto Well I was gonna say, maybe it wouldn't make sense to
put on platforms that can't handle two player, but that DS one probably was
just single player on Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Maybe it's whoever,
like is high up. Maybe someone at Konami worked on that game and
got in a fight with someone and there's just some deeply personal, horrible thing
where now they're just like, fuck that guy left after Contra was done,
and then I led super C. We're putting super C in that thing.
Fuck that guy. It might just be that. It might just be that
SEP like some deeply held grudges that exist in the Konami management. I mean
that's yeah, you might be right. There are a lot of dumb things
like that. I think that probably are across all of video games and not
just Konami that you're like, Oh, that's is this their version of Vents
hates macho Man. Yeah, I don't know why. I don't know why.
I gotta be some reason. Okay, sounds sorted. Uh Seth and
Berkeley while listening to the June twenty first Show, Jeff drop a quote from
Robert de Niro in Heat, and Dan seemed confused by it. Dan quote,
Dan, have you never seen Heat? If not, what the fuck
is wrong with you. I actually, I think it was like two years
ago on this podcast, I said, I haven't seen has that come up?
And everyone told me that I should see it, and so I bought
it on Blue right and he's awesome. Okay, all right, well,
what's the question? You have seen? No idea? Who knows? Huh.
I didn't pick up on that, but yeah, we watched and it's
awesome. Yeah. This podcast is doomed to repeat itself. He yeah,
kind of yeah, Yeah, stuff happens. You just gonna tell the same
stories over and over again. We talk about the time the cops rated my
house. Uh, let's see. Javier has a site question of sorts.
I have to say that you finally found the perfect formula for the Ranking of
Fighters show, with the last one a ninety minute video with two games yep,
sixty for the serious good game and thirty for the other goofy mediocre one.
No, that's just that's science the science dictators. Yeah, that's the
formula was tattoo assassins, the serious one obviously, okay, of course,
and of course, the question, how do you decide what is going to
be premium content? Why aren't the Ranking of Fighters videos premium science, you
know, is for everyone. I think that, you know, there are
too many cases of science being locked behind paywalls, you know, being published
I mean, hi flute in tech journals. Yeah, we don't charge for
you know, our encyclopedias or uh, you know, for the wikis.
I mean, this is a service that we need to provide. You're sharing,
you're sharing your findings for the good of man kind of exactly. Yeah,
that information needs to be free. Yeah, yeah, that that's pretty
much. I mean, yeah, like the the stuff that we kind of
look at look at is like, oh, this is kind of supplemental to
the wiki in some ways or stuff like that. Like a lot of that
ended up being free. That's kind of how we've we've been leaning with some
of that stuff. Try to find a good mix. Richard from England,
I was wondering is there a general consensus in regards to which of the two
consoles, the Sness and the Genesis created better sound, including music and more
general sound effects. Also, could there be a case for personal preference despite
obvious flaws or limitations in the hardware of either console. No, it's just
the Genesis is factually better. There's no personal preference involved. Do you like
the Genesis Street Fighter two music better than the Supernintendo one. I think that's
a different case because that's music that was not created on either one of those
platforms, and I think they're both shit. I thought the general consensus was
that the Supernintendo Street Fighter music was way way better, and I brought that
up in Tim Turry, who you know, loves those games. He was
adamant and he's obsessed with sixteen BIVI video game music that the Genesis version is
far ship. I would have to go back and listen. I can't tell
you one way or the other. I think they're you know, the fidelity
of sampled sound on the Genesis, especially in that game, is lower than
on the next. That's a pretty common thing. But you know, there
are two different technologies being used to produce the music, so some tracks are
going to sound better one way than the other depending on what the original source
material. Let me, I kind of like the Genesis like the Unique like
Warbly. Yeah, I don't know how to describe it. I think I
think that's an FM synth is what that is. Okay, that's cool.
Sound is better nothing sound. Genesis sound is dirtier. Sound is to sound
the way the N sixty four looks like someone like someone filled your ears full
of vasiline. But I'm not saying that's bad. I'm just saying that,
like there's a certain sample rate that you know, they're packing digital samples onto
a cartridge, it's not meant to be there. You know. The Genesis
was a little less capable of playing that stuff back in some cases, so
they didn't attempt it this frequently. I mean, not knowing anything about sound
quality or files or how this stuff is done at all. I just know
that like linked to the past when I think like sixteen bit music, So
yes, that's stuff that's coming out of the synth that's not like you know,
sampled sounds, still music coming out of the downs, so that stuff
is a lot cleaner. And Chris Berker, That's what I'm talking about,
Like I love a lot of those stuff or something like NBA JAM. I
remember loving the announcer way more on the Genesis version because I have both versions,
and everything was muffled and weird on Superintendent and it didn't have music on
Superintendo it did on Genesis. I'm like ninety nine percent sure of this because
I owned both them, played them both all the time. I don't think
the super Intendi version had music weird. Yeah, yeah, I would have
to go look at that and that's that is really strange. Yeah yeah,
I think, you know, it depends on the poor that depends on each
individual game and stuff like that. They both have their strengths. I think
the Genesis just has a unique quality to its sound in the world of consoles.
I mean, obviously those protestors were used elsewhere and stuff. It's good
baselines on that system. Great grindy. Yeah, found sounds like everything's just
like slap yeah kind of thing going on. It's so good to jam and
earl. There's a lot of digital samples in that that that give it it's
it's vibe. But there's there's still some good synth stuff in in that game
too. Indeed. Uh, let's see Tim from Columbus, Ohio. Am
I the only one that doesn't understand why we refer to downloads as digital All
games on discs are digital? Or you take that back, are you putting
a vinyl record into your PlayStations? Isn't a wave form on the disc?
It's digital too. We could just call it a download and save ourselves a
syllable. And then here's the reason I actually pulled this email. Ps.
I actually read up a bit and it sounds like laser discs may have had
some analog games. This is a good question for Jeff pps skyline. Chili
sucks, ass. You don't put sentiment in chili, you animals. Cincinnati
is a hellhole that Ohio should make Kentucky take. If Trump wants to build
a wall, it should be between Cincinnati and the rest of Ohio. I
devote for that sentiment in Chili. Yeah, yeah, they would there.
I can see that. I would put a little bit of sentiment, and
you don't want to put too much, though it'll I think Chili I think
has a little too much. Yeah, too much. Too much sentiment is
a little too noticeable. It's it's kind of when people have sent in cans
and stuff like that. I have eaten all of it and it's been all
right. But yeah, uh yeah, just just a pinch. But yeah,
like, what's what's up laser discs being an analog? What's yeah they're
about that's you'd have to I'm I don't have the Wikipedia page memorized for why
ano, why laser discs are the way they are. But yes, that
is an analog storage medium, and yeah there were so, yes, there
are some video games that run off of laser disc and I don't know if
that's like a yeah, if those loaded in an analog capacity the way they
they would load off a tape or something, or or if they put like
a CD layer and then analog video layer. I don't know how the game
stuff like Pyramid Patrol and stuff like that, I don't know how they did
it. Let's go get our hands on a Laser Active or they're too expensive
and they're only get all that shits is getting more expensive. I would love
to own a Laser Active and those games, even though none of them are
particularly great. I would love to play Pyramid Patrol for the second week running.
I'll say, we should get a hold Steve Lynn. Just keep that
guy in retainer. Yeah, we yes, bring some stuff in here.
We absolutely should. It's any of that stuff emulated. I don't There are
laser disc emulators, but they use like MP four's like that's just like here's
a rip of this disc or a capture of the super weird like in conjunction
with like rob like dragons Layer and Cobra Command all that sort of stuff.
Astron Belt Mock three, all that stuff is you know there there are there's
standard arcade rams that are just you know, being produced on a blue screen
and then the video gets dropped in behind it and you just need the video
and then also some data about that video, like a specific file. There's
a Daphne is the YEP is the emulator of choice for laser disc stuff,
and that stuff's really neat to look at. Now. I actually like the
video and astron Belt because it's all these like very fast moving shots over very
tiny miniatures and tiny miniature trenches in fake space and all this stuff. Like
it's just really neat looking weird shit. The games themselves are awful, but
you know whatever, on top of it being super expensive, is that stuff
just like breaking down at this point, Like something like laser laser just driving
there, it's like going to be next to impossible to repair. That think
some people stars trying to replace I think I think someone's made a replacement or
the lasers Disc player in like a Dragon's Layer machine with an SD card,
Okay, which is there's kind of a trend to some of these games.
You know, like NFL Blitz has a hard drive in it. There are
a handful of arcade machines that do have drives, whether it's an optical drive
or a hard drive, and in some of those cases, like those things
are starting to fail or to take it a little bit too long to load.
So there are definitely cases of people like I'm gonna make an SSD that
that has this Blitz drive that drive on it, and it'll loads so fast.
That's super awesome. I keep thinking about it. As an owner of
a Blitz machine, I would love to like have that, have that be
faster. That's cool. Let's do it. Do it, Yeah, let's
do it. I mean, the Splitz machine out here is broken anyway,
we should probably open it up and start trying to fix it seriously in the
state I want to play. Actually, I have like Steve Lynn actually gave
me a Blitz and Showtime Sports station board that I should just bring in and
put in this cabinet. We should just replace the one that is not working,
unless it's like a power like well, the way that thing heats up,
like it warms up and then dies, I wonder if it's like a
power I haven't had that issue as a monitor. Okay, yeah, is
fine. You guys were gonna do something with that machine a while back.
Yeah, like I played through together. I booted it up and played through
a full game of Blitz and I was like, oh, this thing works,
and then left it on over the weekend and it came back in Monday
and it was all fucked. So I turned it off and back on and
I could play like a quarter of Blitz and then it would just fucking black
out, and like, okay, those things fuck. That sucks. So
I need to get the keys to that machine from facilities so I can start
poking around at it. But I don't actually know what to do. Drew.
You want to hear some crazy cold war stuff? Yes, I do.
Okay, I haven't vetted any of this info, but it came in
from Kevin. It's gotta be good cold war Kevin. Yeah, that's him,
with the one and only on the subject of crazy cold war stuff our
forefathers did. My grandfather was in the US Air Force for about twenty years
immediately after World War Two. He became a weatherman of all things, which
you'd expect to be really fucking boring, but he ended up in some of
the most extreme places in the world. His longest post was at ful tool
thhu Le Air Force Base, which is a thousand miles north of the Arctic
Circle on the western side of Greenland. There he predicted weather over Russian airspace,
so you two spy planes could fly safely and with no contrails. That's
a cool weather man. He was integral to Project ice Worm, a failed
attempt to bury an entire ICBM base in the ice of northern Greenland. He
and one other guy were stationed about sixty five miles inland on top of the
ice cap, completely by themselves. They were essentially the scouting party. My
grandfather studied weather patterns while the other guy would spend literal hours catching snowflakes to
study how the snowpack would transform into a glacier. This was a top secret
project that only was made public when the Danish government did an inquiry into a
plane crash in nineteen ninety five, meaning the US attempted to build a base
on foreign soil without that country's knowledge. Sweet, he's got some other Do
you want to hear some more factoids? Yes? From from this guy's time
there. Metal gear during the during the project. A group of Inuit kids
walked there from their village on the coast just to see the two crazy Americans.
Apparently they had just walked across sixty five miles of the most inhospitable land
on Earth and back and did fine. The two of them were also caught
out by a sudden blizzard. According to him, the weather there could change
in five minutes, and we're too far away from their shelter. So they
built an igloo right there and nearly froze to death. Omar Bradley also visited
and gave them a turkey dinner in the middle of nowhere. It's a really
cool family story. Hard to believe how many people actually were involved in serious
James Bond stuff back then. Ps. Fuck May and her shitty ice gun.
Yeah, yeah, I can get behind that. Is that is awesome?
Yeah, that's a neat story, assuming it's all true, which May's
ice gun is pretty cool. Oh it's infuriating. Well, probably be helpful
in Greenland though, Yeah, why we could use we could protect We probably
need more. You can make an igloo like that, build nicklu Why did
they protect themselves against cold with the most cold of materials you're blocking blocking the
wind man. Yeah, oh okay, Yeah, that air's very cold.
The logs or whatever like logs aren't by nature cold like ice, and the
logs would be very cold. Just everything is ice. Yeah. Kind of
a lot of ices. That checks out, is my guess. Uh,
let's see a couple more emails. Yeah, let's do two more emails.
Uh, Johnson from Michigan. I wonder if that's their first name or last
name. That's how it was signed. Both extra John's son again, got
it? Got it? You know John? Oh? John? Yeah,
this is his son, John Junior. I see that's how that works.
I recently was the victim of your breaking and entering, and aside from my
luggage and laptop being taken away from me, my PS four and Xbox one,
we're also stolen, along with plenty of physical video games. I had
a massed over the years. Luckily, after screaming obscenities over the entire complex,
I had Renters insurance and was able to get proof of ownership over the
missing items by photos and receipts, all done painstakingly over an iPhone screen shot
marathon. Unfortunate events aside, I wondered if you guys had also had anything
valuable, either monetary or intrinsic, stolen from you, and how you dealt
with the sudden loss of things you owned Renters and shirts. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, you've you. I thought of your story immediately. Car Yeah
wait, car, a car a couple years earlier at a GPS and iPod
and stuff. Oh, I thought you put the car stole. No God,
no, no, somebody like some cracking like broke into my car and
took that stuff. And also I kept Xanax for anxiety stuff in my glove
compartment, and they stole the pills, of course, which just the boldness
of like, here are just some unmarked pills. I guess I'll take these
and eat these. But I guess if you're the type person who's breaking into
cars, whatever, if you look at a pill and punch in the things
that are written on a pill into there's a code on there. Yeah yeah,
but yeah, Renters insurance is cheap, and it can say maybe your
ass. Did you actually sit there and itemize every game that you lost and
write those out? Yeah? I even even a digitally I explained on think
on PlayStation and Xbox. I think I was able to redownload all that stuff.
But if I remember right, I think I had to be like man.
I reviewed so many goddamn we downloadable virtual console things and I tried to
kind of like okay, well, ay s ones or five bucks, and
I had this many of those and yeah, Renters insurance. It's a giant
pain in the ass, but it get Renters in surch Yes, yeah,
it's pretty cheap. My car got broken into while we were working at the
Sasolito office and they stole my GPS unit, which shows how long ago that
was. Uh, it was in the parking lot of a police station right
right across the street. That's that's bold. I don't remember that happening.
I remember that happening. Yeah, it was like I had the thought I
walked up to my car and saw like glass on the ground, and I
was like, oh, somebody's car got broken into, and then actually had
the thought while my vision was still there, that's what someone thinks when their
car gets broken into it and looked up in my window was shattered. It's
a bummer. My riom has got stolen off my Nova. Man steadies are
not the rooms you want to lose. They were well, they were not
the original rims or anything like that, but they were actually worth some money,
which is why they got stolen. That will happen. Yeah, I
had a party at my place once and there was a girl in my closet
trying to steal my change. I had a jar for change changed like like
in there, just like it seems like a hard thing to smuggle out if
there was a large quantity of it. There were enough people in the house
that you know, she probably could have gotten away with it. Seemed not
remorseful. When I said, like, hey, get out of my closet
in my bedroom, She's like, we had that might have been the one
we had to call the cops on. All right, last email it comes
in from hush uh. A friend and I were talking about having a Nicholas
Cage movie marathon, and I was going to recommend we watched them all in
chronological order, but I miss typed and started typing in chronomaniacal and thought about
how amazing that would actually be. Oh boy from his least crazy two most
crazy roles. Okay, maybe watching all his movies is not the best idea,
but if you could pick a few movies in chronomaniacal order, which movies
would Okay, where is he the most? Say? I have not seen
the National Treasure movies, but is he sane in that he's Okay, I
feel that I haven't seen like recent stuff. So yeah, he's he's kind
of been making some questionable choices right for a couple of years. Yeah,
especially like as of laid from what I've believe the stuff or whatever. He's
he's pretty low key in raising Arizona. Okay, he's not like a cartoon
character in that he's not insane. In The Rock, he's just a dork.
He's a He's a dork who's trying to be a cool guy. Okay,
so is so is is is the Rock at the beginning of this progression,
I mean he's super Nicholas Cagey and he's like, oh the name of
Zeus is butthole, Like you know, like there are Nicholas Cagey moments.
It was some friging slack Like, yeah, there's some major cage moments there.
God, I love that. I'd say leaving Las Vegas, he's super
crazy and yeah that is man, that's a movie. I saw that for
the first time a couple of years ago. Hold shit, face off,
it depends there's two. Yeah, Castor Troy or Shawn is a family man
who has to act crazy because that's how Castor Troy would act. Can't let
Pollocks know that something's up. This is getting really multilayered. So face off.
I'd say half pretty crazy. Half. I would say the character he
plays, I mean, is crazy the entire time. He just just Nicolas
Cage doesn't play him for the entire movie. But the character that he is
cast the bad guy, Yeah, okay, Yeah, he's nuts. He's
a madman, Yeah, sanest person Letton, Yeah, con Connor, he's
a pretty straightforward a wrongly imprisoned. He murdered a man with his bare hands,
wrongly but still me come on, he killed those people they were attacking,
His wife killed him. That's justifiable, justifiable, Yes, yes,
saying it's a little crazy someone, I think it's finally crazy, maybe to
kill someone, but it's still it's it's more crazy than the rock. I'm
not saying it's all the way crazy. And his time in jail made him
crazy. He fucking some shit happened, Yeah, and he was in jail,
so I'm sure he went a little crazier in there, because that's that's
rough times in there. Uh so, yeah, con Air is crazier than
the rock Face Off is crazier than conn Air. Has anyone seen The Wickerman
No? I have not, although that is kind of on the short list
of movies my girlfriend and I are gonna watch because I'm just pulling up his
filmography. I'm not either the Port of Call in New Orleans. I think
he's supposed to be super crazy, and I'm not saying this Drive Angry,
He's kind of straightforward. And then what was Wait? No, is he
from Hell and Drive Angry? No, Satan comes back from Hell? No,
he's from hell? He comes back from Hell? Or is that ghostwriter?
Am I going to consume? What? Who is ship? I've seen
Drive Angry like four times? Why can't I put those driders? Johnny Blaze,
the iron Lung right method man? What was what was that Cage movie
that Dave loved some knowing? Yeah, it's good. There was that in
next where it came out like the same year and they were the exact same
concept. Yeah right, Yeah, it's like he can see the future,
let's see, which I believe is just you know, they just followed him
around and shot. Yeah, it's a documentary stuff for a while. Those
are both documentary. Yeah. Throw out a couple others here. Let's see
kickouse. What was I can't remember what his role was. He was the
father. Wasn't he the father of Chloe Mortz? Yeah? Not not especially
nuts in that one. No, he's got a mustache. No, not
super nuts. Yeah. What was a honeymoon in Vegas? See that's in
that. I never saw. That's quirky. I get that confused with the
one where all the elvis is try to rob a bank and I think Kurt
Russell, that's a great movie, is it? Yes? I always felt
like I should have seen it as iced tea hanging upside down from a rope
with two oozies just spinning and shooting. Okay, all right, okay,
okay, I think is that what's the one? We're him and Dana Carvey
and John Levitts are brothers that rob a bank in the snow. Yeah,
it's it's like a comedy where they're like bumbling bank robbers. It came out
in like ninety four. I remember liking it. Yeah. I think it
was John Levitts and maybe not Dana Carvey. God, who's in that?
Is it? John Goodman? You know, I'm thinking of raising Arizona again.
The movies he did around that time. Let's see Honeymoon in Vegas,
Red Rock West. It could happen to you. None of these not ring
any bells? Maybe I really use the Lottery Ticket movie with Bridget Fonda,
okay for crazy in though. Let's go a little earlier nineties Vampires Kiss.
This is gonna drive me nuts. What's that movie Wild at Heart? No?
No, no, that's not right. Yeah, yeah, smooth,
I'm gonna zonde the ring any bells? Maybe I'm just thinking that John Levitt,
can you look up John Levitt? Happened before high School? High?
Whoops? John lovetts again? Yeah, we need to look up John.
I never saw High School High, but I saw the commercial for High School
A little cop cars going through the dreadlocks. Remember that that was the big
sight gag and the trailers. Yeah. I remember seeing the movie and thinking
it was funny when it came out. Probably has an age. Great.
Oh, you must be talking about American Tale. Five Goes West. No,
that's the one bank robbery. Dude, I don't know. He could
have been earlier. He did a lot of movies around that era. North
Love It, Get Work. No. North was the thing with Oliver No
Elijah Wood, wasn't it. Yeah, Oh my god, it's in the
snow. It's on the cover. It's the three brothers. Do you know
what I'm talking about. They're all like bundled up. They're like, hey,
we're idiots, but we're gonna rob this bank. I'm not. Oh,
this is gonna drive me fucking insane. Love It is definitely in it.
It's you love it. I'm pretty sure it's lovetts. I'm not seeing
anything. Bum blank bank robbery. It's like the beginning of GTA five,
but with John Lovett's Paradise. Now I'm sold. I don't see anything the
sounds remotely like that. We gotta move on, Yeah, we gotta move
I can't have this. I can't have a Nicolas Cage conversation anymore too much.
That's there you go. There's there's your totally randomly ordered list. I
gotta tick Twitter right away. I'm sure people have already tweted to me.
Yes, I'm sure thanks to the live bombcasts you will find out shortly.
Chronomaniacal is a really good word. That's great. Yeah, podcast jat on
dot com. That's all the emails that I got. I just looked at
the camera for the first time this whole show. That's weird. Probably shouldn't
do that, Drew, how did it go? GOODA thank you? I'm
still running. Yeah, hold together, I'm looking at chat just enough to
make sure that the stream is dead. Nothing is actually on fire. Yeah,
and it's not on fire yet. Digital rappids continue to flow. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, Yeah, there's a there's an there's a light.
It's not a red Okay, all right, time is probably limited there.
We should probably shut this thing down, stressing that machine in ways it was
never designed for well, it is designed for this. I just don't know
what's happening. Okay, all right, that's the thing. We're still going
out to the internet. So the thing is a black box trapped in paradise.
You just said that. Yeah, yeah, it sounded kind of familiar.
That's definitely it. Okay, all right, now you know now you
can add your cage Parathon sweet Lord of Awesome cage Man. He's the best.
I mean, he has a National Treasure snake eyes. Yeah, a
really good movie. What are your thoughts on eight milimeter. I am one
of the six people that thought that eight millimeter was a Okay, I didn't
James Gandel, Phoenie it's a snuff felt stuff doesn't existwoauin Phoenix and Machine Movie
like, it's only kind of controversial when it came out, or people it
was, since it was about stuff films. They were like, it's so
edgy and you watch it like, no, it's fucking I never saw the
sequel. Oh yeah, squel without Nicolas Cage directive video kind of thing or
something. It's like seeing elimeter. Yeah, that's good, it's good.
I was trying to think of So that's that's a good one. All right,
that's gonna do it. Then, for our very first live bomb cast,
seems to have gone reasonably well. Nobody's on fire. Yeah, that's
a good thing. We would probably get out of here before somebody spontaneously can
busts. Thanks for listening, Thanks for watching. We'll be back next week,
same time, same place.
