00:00:00 Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. 00:00:04 Speaker 2: Final Hour on this Tuesday, Dan and the Dan Nets Dan Patrick Show. More of your phone calls coming up each seven to seven three DP show, Good Morning. If you're watching on Peacock, download the app if you haven't done so, you can also watch on the NBC Sports Network. I ran down the DraftKings odds after yesterday's the free agency frenzy for the Super Bowl odds. The Ramsey your favorite, followed by the Seahawks and the Ravens their time. Then it's the Bills, Chiefs, Packers, Niners, Eagles, Chargers, Lions, and Fritzi wanted to know. One of our callers wanted to know where the Broncos. Well, the Patriots are next, then the Texans. Then it's the Broncos, Jags and Bears. Then it's the Bengals. Bengals have better odds than the Cowboys and the Buccaneers and the Steelers and the Vikings and the Colds and the Commanders. Wow, so you start to look at I guess it's surprising. Now I will be surprised if the Patriots make the playoffs this year. I just think they'll be a little bit of a dip, but they're probably eleventh best odds. Then the Texans they're actually tied with the Patriots, and then the Broncos as well. And as one of the callers said, hey, you know, we're a healthy ankle away from going to the Super Bowl, and you're probably right. The Jags, Jags at plus twenty five hundred, the Bears plus twenty five hundred. Then you got the Bengals plus three thousand, the count Cowboys plus thirty five hundred, but the Buccaneers and the Steelers Steelers at plus five thousand, Vikings plus six thousand. That'll improve once they get Kyler Murray. In my opinion, the Steelers, I'm assuming Aaron Rodgers will be back. I don't know if there's any possibility he could go elsewhere or this deal would entertain Kyler Murray. But Albert Bria, the Monday Morning quarterback, joined us last hour and he said, Kyler wants to go to the Vikings. It's just a question of do the Vikings won him? All right, poll question for the final hour of the program, seat and it's going to be what. 00:02:15 Speaker 3: We got many We got a million of them up there right now. Maybe some of our most eclectic slash diverse poll questions. Okay, the one from Paul who had the best day yesterday? Right now, Malik Willis has about forty nine percent of that vote, followed by Fernando Mendoza. 00:02:29 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul didn't beyond financially he was going to get paid anywhere. Did Milik Willis's career get better noticeably better? 00:02:38 Speaker 2: Well, he has a chance to be a starting quarterback. 00:02:41 Speaker 4: On a team that had a fire sale and has very few weapons left in the cupboard. 00:02:48 Speaker 2: I don't know. It feels are you saying he should have stayed in Green Bay as a backup quarterback instead of going to Miami? 00:02:53 Speaker 4: Now, I would say, was there a better football option out there because the money would have probably been equal? 00:02:59 Speaker 2: I think there is, unless he was going to go to Arizona because it feels like the Vikings are going to go with Kyler Murray. Do you want to go to Arizona? Do you want to go to Miami? Yeah? I mean. 00:03:12 Speaker 3: Yeaes sed I mean if you look at the teams that were maybe interested in them, right at the Dolphins, Cardinals, Browns, Jets, maybe with the Steelers, I suppose could have been maybe the Vikings, but maybe they weren't. Maybe that money wasn't right. You know, this might have been we might think that there were more people interested in them than there really were. 00:03:39 Speaker 2: Yeah, and the money, I mean, it's not a lot to get a guy who's going to be a starting quarterback three years and it's sixty seven and a half million dollars total. That's pretty good, pretty. 00:03:50 Speaker 3: Good, especially since he just spent three hundred and fifty million for one year or two. It's an unbelievable bargain. 00:03:57 Speaker 2: Not exactly that, but close. My numbers might be off a little bit. 00:04:01 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul next year two will make fifty six point five million dollars fifty five. I double checked this. He's going to make fifty six point five to a next year fifty five from Miami, one point five from Atlanta. Malik Willis will make twenty three million next year. Fernanda Mendoza will make thirty three point five million. That combines for fifty six million. 00:04:23 Speaker 2: Yeah. So it was a wild day yesterday from start to finish. And still you know, Trey Hendrickson could end up with the Cowboys Kyler Murray. He's going to be released tomorrow and I think he'll end up with the Vikings. The Malik Willis to the Dolphins, I wasn't surprised that he went there. I was kind of surprised at the philosophy of the Dolphins. Why not just let quinn Ewers play and then you'll be in the market for a franchise quarterback next year. It's probably what Arizona is thinking. They brought in Gardner Minshew. There so feels like they'll have a room full of backup quarterbacks that somebody has to start there. I like what the Raiders did. They spent some money, but it's only the first day and you know there'll be bits and pieces to fill in. But also what does this mean for certain teams with the draft? That's what interests me, probably more so as we move into the second and third day of free agency. All right, so new pole questions, Seaton or did you just clean up the previous questions? That was one. 00:05:23 Speaker 3: We got a bunch more here here's one from the mind of Todd Fritz. With their latest moves, and if Fernando Mendoza proves to be the real deal, the Raiders are silver and back question mark. 00:05:35 Speaker 2: Right now? 00:05:35 Speaker 3: Your options there are you bet you or easy there, easy there? 00:05:38 Speaker 2: Right now? 00:05:39 Speaker 3: Is that seventy seven percent of that vote canceling Magic City Night was smart or lame? 00:05:44 Speaker 2: Right now? 00:05:44 Speaker 3: The lames have that at fifty four percent of the audience. Let's see there was another one in here too that I can't seem to find, which is a better movie? Wedding crashers are old school? That is straight up fifty to fifty right now. And who's career would you want? Luke Wilson or Owen Wilson eighty percent? Owen Wilson, Dang Luke. You're gonna take that? 00:06:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Todd. 00:06:11 Speaker 5: Has Luke been in anything I've noted? Very recently? I see him on some phone commercial walking in the desert with a dog. As far as comparing Owen. 00:06:18 Speaker 2: And Luke's career, I don't know what Luke's been in. 00:06:22 Speaker 5: A recently bias alone, I would go Owen as well. 00:06:25 Speaker 2: Okay, uh Owen Uh is in a golf series I think, don't know what it's called, but I saw the promotional campaign around that. But I don't know what Luke's been involved in. Yeah, they've been They've carved out some nice careers, Sir, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Can you do an impersonation if it's only one word like you did your bread FARV. 00:06:54 Speaker 3: Every impersonation I have is essentially there's one word. 00:06:59 Speaker 2: Yeah, course, course course yeah. All right, we'll get to some phone calls here. Quiet day so far with free agency. Congratulations to Troy and Furman. They have punched their tickets to that big dance Team USA drop Mexico. And it was fun to watch it is It's one of those where I go, I don't know if I want to watch, and then I watch and I go, why do I say, I don't know if I want to watch it. I'm watching Korea against Australia and I'm going, all right, the environment is pretty good, pretty good. And now Team USA, I think they have Italy coming up. Is that right? And you throw out the records when those two get together. You just never know if Italy known for their baseball Italian baseball is no joke, yes, Martn. But here's the thing. Italians. 00:08:01 Speaker 6: Are they Italian Americans or are they like straight from Rome like you said, Mike Piazza, Like you know what, I have great grandfathers that came over from the Old country. 00:08:14 Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know the roster. Maybe maybe look at the roster and see how many players are from the United States. 00:08:21 Speaker 6: Yes, Marvin, I just got word from our expert Mario that it's a lot of Italian Americans. Okay, So like the Rocco Baldelli's of the World. 00:08:29 Speaker 2: Or Rock Obell Okay. Yes, Paul, I. 00:08:32 Speaker 4: Had the Italy Baseball roster up on my screen at all times. But it's it's probably two thirds USA born. Quickly looking at it, there's actually players that are born in both Canada and Venezuela on the Italy roster, which is interesting. So I would say it's mostly USA born players. 00:08:51 Speaker 2: Sunday Night Basketball and NBC in Peacock. Every Sunday night you got Nixon the Warriors Sunday Night on NBC and Peacock. We talked a little bit about Sga hitting the game winner last night, and he had a stat line that only one other player we believe in NBA history at least when they started keeping these stats, Lebron James, where he went for thirty five to fifteen and no turnovers, also hitting the game winner. Tony in California leads this off final hour. 00:09:20 Speaker 7: Hey Tony, Hey, guys, good morning. Oh, I'm so incredibly happy man. The Clippers beat the Knicks to reach five hundred, slid into the eighth spot. I'm a believer. We're so good now. Even when we lose to the Spurs, We've made Wemby cry and he said, quote, it was the toughest game of my career. That's the most physical team in the league. 00:09:42 Speaker 2: I'm a believer. 00:09:43 Speaker 5: Dan. 00:09:43 Speaker 7: I know you're still a little incredulous. 00:09:48 Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to wait. I'm going to play the long game with the Clippers there. I'm just curious what happens to Kawhi Leonard after, you know, they do that investigation. I don't know what the comissioners waiting on, but it feels like Pablo Torre is still kind of trolling the commissioner of what are you waiting for here with Kawhi Leonard and somehow does he end up a free agent. Let's see. How about Zach and Knoxville? Hi, Zach, what's on your mind today? 00:10:22 Speaker 4: Hedp? 00:10:23 Speaker 7: Thanks for taking my call. 00:10:26 Speaker 8: I'm pretty sure that all that Magic City gear is going to the same place that the eighteen and o Patriots. 00:10:34 Speaker 2: Super Bowl gear is going. 00:10:36 Speaker 8: There was a story on ESPN years ago about how they send that out to Africa or you know, certain places. So there's going to be a bunch of kids walking around with some Magic City swag. 00:10:48 Speaker 7: And I was just. 00:10:50 Speaker 8: Wondering, if you know, you remember you had that conversation with Jonah Hill about if he was, you know, if he's not as funny, if he since he got skinnier, do you think it would have the reverse effect on Todd? 00:11:06 Speaker 2: If Todd got skinnier, he might be funnier. Wow, I didn't expect that from Zach. 00:11:17 Speaker 5: They don't get funnier when you get skinny. And that was totally unnecessary to draw a kind of connection. 00:11:23 Speaker 2: To Zach gets it. 00:11:25 Speaker 3: Zach gets it. 00:11:28 Speaker 2: A little bit of a reach just to take a shot, and how about we try it Todd. 00:11:35 Speaker 5: Well, that's something I should be working on, humor or not, I should be working on dropping some LB's. But I find it hard to believe that as you get slimmer, you would become funnier. That just doesn't seem like that would happen. There's very few funny well, Jerry Seinfeld, but you want to see someone that's like kind of out of shape and sweaty and angry and sarcastic. So well, how come I'm not funny? 00:11:54 Speaker 3: That's not chubby and Adam, you know, Chris chob. 00:12:00 Speaker 2: People with you know, are you calling Will Ferrell fan? 00:12:07 Speaker 5: I think it's easier probably to laugh with and at somebody if they got good material and you're like, thank goodness, I don't look like that, and they're saying something funny, they got a better chance of getting some chuckles. 00:12:17 Speaker 2: Okay, right, thank you sir. 00:12:21 Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks Zach. 00:12:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, Paulie, you. 00:12:24 Speaker 4: Could go the other way, Todd and put on twenty and see if you would get even more funny. 00:12:28 Speaker 5: Yeah, just where it might have get a laugh that I just got even more calories. 00:12:32 Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a rough moment when I'm uh bringing that up to Jonah Hill because he had lost weight and I was just curious, do people look at you differently? I wasn't saying you're not as funny. I was saying, do people look at you? 00:12:50 Speaker 3: And he didn't appreciate that, you know, he did not appreciate that was his last appearance on the show. 00:12:55 Speaker 2: Yes, yes, And I think Will Ferrell likes to remind me of that moment with Jonah that was unfortunate. 00:13:02 Speaker 4: Yes, yes, Paul, this might be irony. But if you remember the movie Funny People with Sandler Jonah Hill's Seth Rogan, jonah Hill's character says something about Zach about Rogan's character, you're you're not as funny now that you're in shape, or something like that. He actually says that in the movie because in the movie he gets in shape. 00:13:24 Speaker 2: Maybe that's where I got it from. 00:13:26 Speaker 4: I remember that line from the movie. I don't remember exactly the line. 00:13:29 Speaker 2: But I remember Jonah Hill going, Dan, are you really gonna ask me that? I went, yeah, ye, not. 00:13:37 Speaker 3: To sort of pile on, but it was right around the same era that you asked a college football coach if their weight impacted their ability to recruit, and they didn't appreciate that. 00:13:51 Speaker 4: I remember the name and the question. 00:13:53 Speaker 2: I do too. 00:13:54 Speaker 3: I was just trying to leave that out, but that they also did not appreciate that question. 00:14:01 Speaker 2: And that's why we don't win His sports em me right there. You know, I give it and I take it away. AnyWho, Yes, Todd. 00:14:12 Speaker 5: Not everybody gets your sense of humor. That's what it all comes down to. Your wife says it. Everybody says it. They said, My you just gotta loosen up a little bit. 00:14:18 Speaker 2: Do you think I'm too thin to be funny. 00:14:22 Speaker 7: Me? 00:14:22 Speaker 5: Personally? I'd left a lot of things you said over the years. I don't think weight does. 00:14:27 Speaker 2: But I'm your boss. I'm your boss. 00:14:28 Speaker 5: Yeah. But that being said, you know we've given taken shots at each other over the last twenty plus years, so that doesn't get in the way of that. 00:14:35 Speaker 2: But if I gain twenty pounds, we'll be hilarious. Thank you, Dan and Naples. Hi Dan, what's on your mind today? 00:14:45 Speaker 9: Quick question for mar based on your Buffalo take. 00:14:48 Speaker 10: Do you think dak fiance and her fans are happier with her second round exit or do you think they would have been happier, you know. 00:14:54 Speaker 9: Making it to the big show? 00:14:56 Speaker 7: Hang up and listen. 00:14:58 Speaker 2: So Dak prescotten Is have broken up? 00:15:02 Speaker 8: Uh? 00:15:02 Speaker 2: Would you rather just be dating or make it all the way to you have a bachelor bachelorette party and then all of a sudden you decide you're not getting married. 00:15:13 Speaker 6: Marvin, Well, they didn't get married, so he probably he won in this in this scenario, right, so you'd rather do. 00:15:22 Speaker 2: Did she win? I'm talking about that? So definitely. I don't know what happened in this relationship. I don't either. They both they both had their bachelor bachelorette parties, and then all of a sudden they announced that they weren't getting married. Yes, Todd, Yes, can of worms. 00:15:39 Speaker 5: But we're kind of what we're hinting at and dancing around the elephant the room. Would you sign a prenup or expect your future spouse to sign a prenup is kind of what we're saying. 00:15:48 Speaker 2: Uh TMZ debunk that story. Yeah, full debunking, debunking. Harvey Levin defunk debunk vent. 00:15:57 Speaker 5: It's a fun question asked. 00:15:59 Speaker 2: Okay, if if your wife made a whole lot of money, would you sign a prenup? Todd? 00:16:05 Speaker 5: I would be. I'd be offended at first, like, really, we're already planning on getting divorced, and you're, look, you're worried about me taking half. But if I really loved her, and I would probably go. 00:16:14 Speaker 2: Say, she's got a billion dollars, but you have to sign a pre nup, and. 00:16:18 Speaker 5: She's like smoking hot and everything and all that kind of thing, and I'm just really the head over heels. There's no other on the planet. 00:16:23 Speaker 2: When she looks like I like that. 00:16:25 Speaker 3: Right now, you're you're debating whether you should sign a prenup if this smoking hot billionaire one because. 00:16:30 Speaker 5: I don't know what I'm gonna get in the future. This may be my only chance for me. But I would sign it. I guess, yeah, i'd sign it. 00:16:37 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul, I think I would sign it if I married someone who had a gigantic career financially before we met, and preup you still get something. It's not you walk out with a zero. 00:16:48 Speaker 2: Well, a lot of times you get paid with each year of marriage. So let's say you get a million dollars with each year of marriage. Then you get to twenty five years, you get a ten million dollar bonus Seaton prenup you sign? Would I? 00:17:06 Speaker 3: Of course? 00:17:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I would too. 00:17:09 Speaker 3: It's really not a big deal to me. 00:17:11 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's her money. She made it. Yeah fine, No, But ill now, would you ask somebody to sign a pre Let's say you're worth a billion todd, would you ask your fiance to sign a prenup? 00:17:26 Speaker 5: I would say, can you just sign something from me? And I wouldn't you know, just like kind of block out to redact what's on there. No, I would, Uh, I probably would. I would ask for if she woul wouldn't mind signing that. 00:17:36 Speaker 2: But but you you'd be offended if your wife your yes. 00:17:41 Speaker 5: Initially, Initially I'd be like I'd be offended. Would be my initial reaction, Like you're worried about me. That's why I'm in this because I want half your money if this doesn't work out, and then I would calm down and say, yeah, where do I sign? 00:17:52 Speaker 6: Yes, Martin, if she helped me build a billion, no, but if I come in already as a billionaire, yes, prenup? 00:18:02 Speaker 2: Yes, sirt Right, let's take a break and we'll get more phone calls. You got one. No, No, I didn't make any money when I met my wife. 00:18:13 Speaker 3: It'd be an awkward conversation to have now though, Yeah, I was just thinking, why do we get our paperworking order? 00:18:17 Speaker 2: What do you think about a premium? That would be an awkward one now at. 00:18:20 Speaker 3: This point in the game, are releasing a car's paperwork. 00:18:24 Speaker 2: This is a bad idea. Yeah, posting up you know it'd be it'd be a tough initial conversation. But no, I didn't make any money. She didn't make any money. She canna have it all when I go, she can have it all. I don't care. 00:18:41 Speaker 4: Binding contract. 00:18:44 Speaker 2: Let's take a break. We're back after this Dan Patrick Show. And you go back to college and Johnny Manziel was obviously great, fascinating, but it felt like the bailout was I just throw it up there and Mike Evans is going to catch it. And I remember at some point we go, you know what, this guy, Mike Evans is really good. Now Johnny got all the attention. And if you were going to guess how many career starts for Johnny Manziel versus Mike Evans in the NFL, Johnny had eight, And if you look at career earnings, Mike Evans one hundred and fifty five million in counting. I think Manziel made about thirteen million dollars. But looking back on that college career and it just felt like Johnny would run around and throw it up and Mike Evans would catch everything, and then all of a sudden we realized he's a first round draft pick as a wide receiver and now he's going to be a Hall of Famer. 00:21:07 Speaker 6: Yes, Marvin, can Mike Evans get like a hand or a leg of the Heisman Trophy because he was a big part of the reason why Johnny men is won. 00:21:17 Speaker 2: I don't know where that Heisman is for Johnny, but yeah, sure, why not? If I win a Sports Emmy, I would like to give out pieces of my Sports Emmy to our audience. Just maybe melt it down or chop it up and just give out little pieces there. Just giving back, Marvin. Okay, yeah, but that's just giving back. That's all that is giving back to the people. Yeah, Mark, how. 00:21:46 Speaker 6: Many pieces can you put this sports me into? 00:21:49 Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm going to try to find out, just little like a little nugget there. 00:21:54 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul, you could probably grind it into fine dust and put it in like little bottles that everyone gets one. 00:21:59 Speaker 2: Okay, all right, maybe I do that. Yeah, maybe I just get back to the community that they're part of. The It's not going to happen, but it sounds really good that I'm offering that up. Yes, Mark, we have to just get there. Yeah, yeah, not just get there. We have to win it, right, Mark, or. 00:22:17 Speaker 6: We'll be disappointed. 00:22:20 Speaker 2: I'll be disappointed if we don't get nominated. Steve Kerr, the Warriors head coach, dropped this little nugget on us last night where he was talking about the NBA schedule being too long. 00:22:32 Speaker 12: I know this will not be a popular opinion in the league office, but I will continue to say it because it's obvious we need to play fewer games. We need to take ten games off the schedule. 00:22:46 Speaker 4: I think it would be. 00:22:48 Speaker 12: Great for the league. And I get it, it's revenue and you'd have to get everybody to agree to take a little less money, and that's a really hard thing to do. But what I know about the about coaching, about how hard it is to play the modern game with the pays in the space, I think it would be a more competitive and healthier league if we played for your games. 00:23:12 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not popular. It's not going to be popular with the fans, with the players, with the owners, the TV executives, pretty much nobody. Because what you're getting paid now, you're going to say, what, hey, will you take how much? Fifteen percent, twenty percent less? You're going to do that? Some guys are getting you know, you're going to get a million dollars a game, so you're going to say, hey, can we take off ten games? We want to take away ten million dollars. These players are like, we don't have to play in these games. We still get paid, So don't blame us, although we do blame you. But I don't think anybody's going to sign up to let's play seventy two games for you know, is the minimum of postseason awards going to be fifty five games? Is Steve saying that he thinks players will play in more games if I take away ten games, They're still going to load management? 00:24:15 Speaker 4: Steve, Yeah, Pauline, this is a really frustrating thing, and I bet a fan hearing it just gets crazy. Steve played Her from eighty eight to two thousand and three. He was one of the last generation of guys who generally played eighty to eighty two games. Why with the modern medicine and technology and hydration and food, can't guys play seventy five plus? 00:24:39 Speaker 2: Why? I would like for Steve to address that just say, hey, this is the reason why I don't think you get private planes. I think the NBA has tried to do a pretty good job with back to backs, trying to, you know, mitigate uncomfortable, awkward travel moments. But everything's at your fingertips health wise. These are better conditioned athletes. I mean, we love to talk about how they're better athletes, but then those guys who smoke cigarettes and drank beer after games, those guys were able to play. I'm not quite sure I understand what Steve is saying that ten games is going to make that much of a difference. If ten games means players will still continue to play the number of games they're playing, and we're down to seventy two, okay, you know Baseball talked about this going back to one fifty four. I think you could go back one fifty four and nobody would notice. It wouldn't be a big deal. But you got to tell me, why are you doing that? These TV contracts salaries are based off of eighty two games, one hundred and sixty two games. So no, it's not a popular opinion by Steve. And look, he's not afraid to say it, but I can't imagine you're going to go back to these owners and these players in the players' Association say, hey, by the way, we want to reduce salaries. Hey, but the good news is you don't have to play in ten more games. Okay. If I'm a player, I'm like, well, I don't have to play in those games. If I don't want to, nobody's forcing me. 00:26:17 Speaker 6: Yes, Mark, If you think the perception of the NBA is bad, now imagine if they went down ten games, Like, wait, you barely play seventy games that you want seventy two games? 00:26:27 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Poe. 00:26:29 Speaker 4: I know it's hypothetical, but if you told the fans will drop to seventy games and everybody plays all seventy they tried to play all seventy, which is not possible. Everyone would sign up for that. If you know what you're getting. That's the problem. You don't know what you're getting night tonight. 00:26:43 Speaker 2: Well, they can say we're trying to play in as many games, but you have coaches who rest their players. So I mean, everybody's complicit on this because I got to have my players ready for the playoffs. And I understand this. I go back to Greg Papavich, It wasn't popular, but it certainly was effective. I'm like, hey, we don't have to have the best record. I want Tim Duncan and Manu and Tony Parker rested for the postseason. And I get it. His job is to win championships and he did that. Now it's just a different athlete now because you can say, well, Michael Jordan wouldn't do it. I don't know how a modern day Michael Jordan would be. I assume he would as competitive. He would want to play, or Isaiah or Magic or Larry. I don't know, but I do know that these players, if they are better conditioned and treated, better paid, better off season, staying in shape, like all of these things, that should factor into them playing more games than less games. Yes, Mark, do. 00:27:51 Speaker 6: You think some of these guys will end up regretting not playing in all the games they could have played, because, like you said earlier talking about the Kelsey's retiring, when it's over, it's over. Michael Jordan, I think he'd give up half of his fortune to be healthy and play one full season of NBA basketball again. So do you think those guys that are playing now in load managing will have regrets? About not playing all the games they could have. 00:28:15 Speaker 2: No, no, because you can play more seasons, you're gonna make more money now, unless it's individual numbers where you want to get to a certain milestone. Other than that, you know, I don't think they're going to look back and regret, like, man, I should have played that game in Cleveland. I sat that out. 00:28:34 Speaker 4: Yeah, paulin I was just taking a look because Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves, he has a reputation of playing. He's not a load management guy. He's young, he's healthy, but he's averaging seventy nine starts per season over the past five years. And that's cool, but that's an anomaly. 00:28:50 Speaker 2: Yeah, but I wonder how long that's going to take. You know, that'll last. I mean, it's great. You want to be able to go see the Timberwolfs and you want to be able to go see him, and of course Rudy gober But. 00:29:03 Speaker 6: I didn't mean to laugh like that. 00:29:04 Speaker 2: I'm sorry. That's that's for you. Yes, Paul, six years ago. 00:29:09 Speaker 4: Last night was Rudy Gobert licking the microphones in his hands the day before the NBA season closed up shots. 00:29:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Cameron in Indiana. Hey Cameron, Oh Hey, how's it going. 00:29:27 Speaker 9: So I just got a couple of things for you. So I was, first off, if I went seventy three and nine, I'm going to advocate for shorten con season two. If no one can be my record, then I'll live in NBA history for that. Secondly, if I'm the player, I'm putting up all the points and stats, but I can I'd rather be remembered to be close to a Hall of famers than somebody who just load managers. 00:29:57 Speaker 2: You know, once again, I'm old school, and I would want to play as much. But you know, you've got a factor in today's athlete and their approach to this, and if you could play less games, more seasons, more money, they're gonna look at this as a business person and I can't begrudge them for that. If you would have said, hey, Larry Bird's gonna play less, but he's gonna play three more seasons, I would sign up for that. Or Steve Nash, some of these players who their careers were cut short, but they would try to play in at least seventy five to eighty games. Yes, Marvin, but I. 00:30:38 Speaker 6: Think with Larry Bird, I'm not sure the amount of games that he played. It's how he played. You see all these montages of him running into the crowd and diving and hurting his back while doing that. So if he had played differently, I think it's different than the amount of games. 00:30:52 Speaker 2: Maybe maybe, but that you know, when people look at his career and they're like, I thought he played longer. You know, same thing with Steve Nash. Well, these guys were on the sideline. You know, Nash would be getting stretched on the sidelines when he'd come out of a game. 00:31:07 Speaker 6: Yeah, Mark Maggice, Johnson and Larry Bird played eleven and twelve years. It felt like their impact on the NBA. It felt like they played for twenty years, but they only played eleven and twelve years. 00:31:20 Speaker 2: Really, Matt in Ohio, Hi, Matt, what's on your mind today? Hello? 00:31:27 Speaker 10: Guys? 00:31:27 Speaker 2: How are we doing? Great? Matt Good? A couple things for you. 00:31:33 Speaker 10: I believe when you guys, when that sports semmy, you should mount it on the hood of your vehicle and just make it up noxious and make sure everybody knows. And secondly, I am willing to go to New York when that time comes and not only hold a sign, but go straight John cusack boom back boombox over my head and hopefully it's. 00:32:02 Speaker 2: Raining that day. All right, Well, thank you, Matt. We appreciate the loyalty. Yeah. I can't invite the audience to join us in New York for the night of the Sports Emmys if we get nominated to then go out and celebrate with us, but I would like to. 00:32:19 Speaker 3: Yeah, if there happened to be a spontaneous gathering of like a meetup of our fans there that we in no way, you know, organized, but it just naturally happened. 00:32:29 Speaker 2: I'm I don't see it. Okay, could we take all if we win the Sports Emmy? Can we take off the next day? Oh no, no, we got to take a victory lap though you're talking about I just because we'd be out late. I just want to make sure I understand what your guys, you know, motives would be. Mine is. I'm showing up every day. It's a super Bowl. You guys are going to show up as well. 00:32:58 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, okay, WITHOUT want. 00:33:00 Speaker 2: To make sure are you talking? Come on, I'm talking to Todd. 00:33:03 Speaker 5: Not just a victory laughter. So the worst thing you could do after winning the Emmies to mail it in and then take the day off. That what would that be saying to the academy and the voters. 00:33:11 Speaker 2: Academy, right, I agree, I'd like to have a parade. I'd like to have a parade the lock. 00:33:20 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul, First we get nominated, but if we win, we come in wearing the same things we wore the night before. 00:33:26 Speaker 2: That could be nothing wire to wire, yeah, could be you know, a wild night there on the bus coming back, just you know, the last time we went in and I said to everybody, look all supply beers here, just know that there's no bathroom here. Well, Tyler's drinking like a sailor. Next thing I know, We're about forty five minutes outside of New York City and he is just you know, like when your kids are trying to cross their legs and they're dancing and holding themselves. And Tyler goes, I really gotta go. I said, Well, we're on like the parkway here, like I said, there's no rest stops here. I know, but I really gotta go. So we get the bus driver to pull over, and then Tyler runs under a bridge like it felt like a quarter of a mile away and then he came back. He said, thank you, thanks so thanks, thanks so much. I said, Tony, you can't have four beers on the way down here and then not have to go. And he goes, I didn't know there'd be traffic. I said, it's New York. It's New York during rush hour. Oh my god. Yeah. So maybe no alcohol going down. Maybe maybe we're just alone with our thoughts. We get ready. It's like Hoosiers, you know, when they were getting ready to play for the championship. Very quiet. Maybe a prayer, maybe a few prayers. We'll take all that we can get. We got to get nominated first. When when are the nominees out? 00:35:03 Speaker 4: Usually the first few days of April's announced. 00:35:06 Speaker 2: Oh I dread those days, man, because I'll say, Paul today, No, not today? All right, Last golf for phone calls? What we learn, what's in store tomorrow? All of that when we return. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Last golf for phone calls? 00:35:36 Speaker 7: What we learn? 00:35:36 Speaker 2: What's in store tomorrow? And I got some information here Steve Kerr, Warriors head coach, said, you know what everybody could benefit if we played ten less, ten fewer regular season games the NBA. If you go back to the twenty eleven twenty twelve lockout, the regular season was sixty six games, and most people felt that that the players felt better, the basketball was better, better rested, and feedback when the fans was positive as well. If you start to look at the number of games that these players play, now, I'll go back to the twenty Let's see two thousand and nine Celtics, they played in one hundred and six games winning the title, the Mavericks in twenty ten, one oh three. Then it was the Heat at eighty eight, the Heat at one oh five. These are teams that won the title San Antonio in fourteen, one oh five, Golden State one oh three, Golden State in twenty sixteen, one oh six, Cleveland one hundred. So you go down the list, you're playing in right around one hundred games if you win the championship. So that's total regular season and the postseason. You could take away ten games and I wouldn't miss those ten games. The problem is the players are gonna want that money. The owners are gonna win something for the money that they're spending the salaries, and then the networks they're gonna want these players to play. I don't know how you convinced everybody, Hey, for the good of the game, you take less money, you can pay less money. I mean, the owners might say, look, I got you know, you're taking away four or five home games here. You know, the executives they're spending billions of dollars this eleven year contract, billions of dollars. 00:37:30 Speaker 5: I don't know. 00:37:30 Speaker 2: And how do you say that to the NBA Players Association as well? So take away ten games, I'm fine with it. You take away ten for Major League Baseball, I'm fine. I'm okay with all of that. But there are a lot of people who wouldn't be. 00:37:43 Speaker 4: Yeah, Paulie, I wonder if someone could look at this and say, if the NBA went to seventy games, but in those seventy games, everybody's playing, and they get rid of the stigma of load management, that they'll end up making more money because fans will tune back in for the next generation long term play. 00:38:01 Speaker 2: Yeah, these players today don't care. They're not going to care about the long term play. It's about them. They're on teams, but they're individuals here, and I think they look at it that way. How about this day in sports history, Paul, Yeah, this day in soft sports history, DAN nineteen forty one. The Brooklyn Dodgers. 00:38:20 Speaker 4: They announced that their players would start wearing batting helmets during the nineteen forty one season. 00:38:25 Speaker 2: You call them sauces. 00:38:26 Speaker 4: So off, that's how it starts. Next thing, you know, we have load management. 00:38:30 Speaker 2: Yeah, next thing, you want face masks on your goalies. You know, Mitch count started right there. Here's one. Nineteen seventy six Texas Tech sports information director Ralph Carpenter. He became famous for the first use of this phrase, The opera ain't over until the fat lady sings. That was nineteen seventy six Tech Tech Ralph Carpenter. The opera ain't over until the fat lady sings. Now we shorten it to it ain't over until the fat lady sings. We took the opera out of the equation. 00:39:11 Speaker 5: There, Yes, and what can we say now, weightly challenge? How does that work? 00:39:15 Speaker 12: Now? 00:39:15 Speaker 5: Did you shouldn't have refer to that phrase? I guess at all? 00:39:21 Speaker 2: Uh, big boned the the opera ain't over until the big boned lady sings. 00:39:29 Speaker 5: That seems safer the husky. 00:39:33 Speaker 2: Uh, Garrett in Wisconsin or no, it's Daryl in Wisconsin. Hi, Darryl. 00:39:40 Speaker 9: Hey, Dan, did you know that Owen Wilson appeared opposite Prime Reese Witherspoon and illegally blonde? 00:39:51 Speaker 2: Luke did? 00:39:53 Speaker 5: That? 00:39:54 Speaker 6: Was? 00:39:54 Speaker 8: That? 00:39:54 Speaker 5: Was? 00:39:55 Speaker 9: That was? 00:39:55 Speaker 7: Uh? 00:39:56 Speaker 9: Yeah, you're right? 00:39:56 Speaker 2: That was Luke Luke did. I'm glad I could help you whole for an hour. Yeah, he's gonna tell me Prime Reese Withersman. That was Luke. Yeah.
