Episode 111 - The Carcharodons!

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we will be starting our coverage of the Carcharodons! Opening with what the hell is a Carcharodon, and where are they in the codexes? After that we dive into how they function with as solid debate over whether or not they are chaotic good (John believes they are) and then a bunch of examples of why Brad believes they are not. With focuses on how the fleet functions, their support staff (they are not really there willingly) and how they reinforce themselves (also awful). We then dive into how they wage combat and why they are have been sent to the other side of the galaxy. We then close out debating on what each of us thinks their true origins really are.

[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the 40-K-Lore cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Forty-Killer, cast with me, John Barsati and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_01]: The sky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Today, we'll be diving into the gray sharks of Forty-K, which, interestingly, is the name my son, his teammate named their soccer team, and I love him to the end of the Earth.
[SPEAKER_01]: but they were so bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it broke me, how bad they were at soccer.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think the act of kicking the ball made the kids fall more often than it moved the ball.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can back this up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now that I was there, but I did talk to you during this soccer game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Horrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you had to put that out multiple times.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I was raging at like, wow, I don't know what to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's much better now.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is that was years ago, he's much better now, but I still had that moment of, wow, this is hard to watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's our all children sports.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Forty-K-Lorecast, the weekly show on the Lord of the Warhammer Forty-K universe, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m. eastern time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Please follow and comment in the cast as it does help us out quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are currently the number one Forty-K-Lorecast globally.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's because people like it, comment and listen.
[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, if you like the cast, when you hear more of Brad and I, click the link to our YouTube page, the 40K Lord cast, there we've got the old versions of this show, our Q&A sessions.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've also got the links to the history of 40K with Brad and myself and the guest.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now, well, it was kind of recorded to Old Man in their handler, Brad did, and I had to admit he sent this to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was beautiful.
[SPEAKER_01]: I looked at it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The imagery was nice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Organization was nice, but there was one thing missing.
[SPEAKER_01]: What was missing, Brad?
[SPEAKER_00]: So I may or may not have an hot mic.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what I say may or may not, I said not.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we didn't have audio.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's coming very shortly at the time releases, I guess within a week or so, you guys will have it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we have that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also on today's cast, we're going to try and not do.
[SPEAKER_01]: Going to take a cardia.
[SPEAKER_01]: We did that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't get rid of you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want the tech a cardia compared to how I feel today.
[SPEAKER_01]: Can I train out yet today brought to you by my numbing migraine in the show notes is also a link to our patreon massive Thank you everyone is contributed as ready as always Patreons really a great way for us to help grow this cast a lot of you been helping us out with it We only have one tier in our patreon and it gets you this show and the 40k
[SPEAKER_01]: and the history of 40k, add free, and it's $4.99 or 32.06 Danish Krona.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's how you pronounce it, by the way, because maybe you, like me, are afraid of heights, and would like to never have to experience that fear.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, good news, you can move the Denmark, because it's one of the flatest countries on Earth.
[SPEAKER_01]: With a high point, I had looked up of 561 feet, which is lower than some buildings I've been in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or sorry, or 171 meters, because it is Denmark, we should probably respect their measurement system.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also great if you like riding bicycles, which, because it's the primary mode of transport there, which is cool, but it's not saying much when you're also one of the flatest countries on earth because you pedal three times and just kind of coast as opposed to like a bouton where I'd be more impressed.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you move the bouton and use a bike to get around,
[SPEAKER_01]: You, you had calves.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm from Ohio.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing wrong with being flat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ugh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Funding, though, also could I do when I have some interesting features?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't know this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Denmark is a massive agriculture country and pigs are one of their big ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: The pigs at number the people and Denmark two to one.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also there's someone that's very short to the ground.
[SPEAKER_00]: The dains are very, very tall.
[SPEAKER_01]: The other not that Dutch, you don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even think you can go to Holland.
[SPEAKER_01]: Candle, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you'd have to break a stool and then turn the showers on.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's whole country sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, last piece of a Denmark for those who don't know, they also own Greenland, which is impressive, because Greenland is 50 times larger than Denmark.
[SPEAKER_01]: Bye, Mike.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lastly, we also have our discord link to it in the show notes.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's growing really well.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a lot of kind of great little features in there now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Our new moderator team, we expanded our moderator team and it's gotten a lot better.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've added some new features and new channels, a lot more functionality.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a, if you like Warhammer 40k really any element of Warhammer 40k.
[SPEAKER_01]: jump in, enjoy yourself, is literature, there's gaming, there's now a lot of memes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there'll be a barone art channel for if you make your own art, everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I even thank the mods in a while and I finally had the list in front of me.
[SPEAKER_01]: So here we go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you to Savage Duck, ours, Toba, Tyrant, Herschmitt, Zemsta, J. Solarsia, also congratulations.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kufulu, query-travely, maestro-riven, Steve, girls, nougals, a wargamon, twin-demise, curl, slonechis, chosen, and silver.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have a lot of mods, but when you're at almost 11,000 members, you need to have lots of mods.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, I just want to do a quick little shout out to Ben, who I was in Arizona for work, and ended up being my Uber driver, and this is the show.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, hey dude, hey man.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, but let's get into the meat of this thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Car caradons.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to start off with the simple question, I think a lot of you will be asking, honestly, what the hell's a car caradone?
[SPEAKER_01]: And...
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think, and I want to cover it's a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I do know that thanks to discussions with GW that have had that the overwhelming majority of 40K fans are really more tacit fans.
[SPEAKER_01]: They find the game and the lower cool and interesting, but they don't endeavor to read every book, codex, white dwarf, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't even talk GW to know that, but they told me so screw it, we'll go with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: and I should call out that a lot of people for that reason probably aren't aware of the carcaradans because they're not in any codex and they've only personally ever seen the one army painted this way.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say like I can do my research, I don't own a space-marin army currently, I own death watch, but that's kind of that's so so.
[SPEAKER_00]: Spacemen on the Jason.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I need to build a space minority.
[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the things I'm doing is we, and we've got a lot of requests for Carcaretons, Astros, Minotars, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing I am going to do at the end of doing a bunch is I'm going to pick one and paint them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Carcaretons right now are kind of sitting in that.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're sharks, which is cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're gray, which is pretty easy to paint if I'm being honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I got some fun with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, see how this goes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the car caretons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Quick overview on them.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are an exiled space marine legion, but they are loyal to the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're more pseudo-personanongrata within the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why into what extent will be covering in depth?
[SPEAKER_00]: But they're terrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, everybody that loves your sharks.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're bad, bad people.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the truth on them very simply is there a nomadic chapter that do all their work on the edges of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, we edges of the galaxy on the dark space.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're known for two things, stealth and brutality, and it's really more the second one.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are dirty.
[SPEAKER_01]: They fight dirty.
[SPEAKER_01]: They play dirty.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are rough.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, they do have a series of novels that are pretty good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're concurrent on there's three of them, but they're mean appearance and a lot of the main lore that we'll talk about here came out of a forge-world publication back in 2011.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's called Imperial Armor 10, The Badab War.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is key, because while we have had a regular game going on with the code Xs or 40k, there was another company called ForgeWorld.
[SPEAKER_01]: And ForgeWorld is really, depending if you're competitive player or a casual player, you're opinion of ForgeWorld will be quite different.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason I say this is ForgeWorld made additional models for the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: some of them were so overpowered they actually got banned within the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when I say some of, I kind of mean most of them, but forge with the same time if you're more of a lore person wrote epic stories around this stuff to bring it to the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: So for example, forge world is where death quirks of Creed comes from.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were never a codex army, they were always a forge world thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: They made amazing models, but the really cool story behind the creaks.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're a lot more of the players got into them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they also gave us the Leviathan and contemporary dreads, decimators.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those were fun for a while, weren't they, Brad?
[SPEAKER_01]: Brass scorpions, the mantelts, oh yeah, the mantelts, which wasn't really good, but when someone would play, what do you do about it and more?
[SPEAKER_01]: But, they also gave us, gave me my gargantuan squiggle, which is one of my favorite things in my entire collection of 40k, and my creag Army, who I also really like.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I also should, well, though, to be fair, I didn't play in 5, 6 or 7, so the real nasty that was forage world didn't affect me.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I understand for those of you who hate forage world to the end of this earth,
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I saw the decimator rules, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: In seven-thedition decimators were wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just go wish him everything was wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but decimators would horrifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: But my point is, if you never heard the car caradons, that's cool and it's kind of expected.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have, I hope that we do them justice here because they are pretty badass.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's get into car caradons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Car caradons are unknown origins.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only the most encrypted records of the Imperium know their true history.
[SPEAKER_01]: And to this point, no inquisitor has been able to find
[SPEAKER_00]: I do like the drawing points for a lot of people with them is they're shrouded in mystery and they're very crazy about what they do.
[SPEAKER_00]: They use questionable tactics and their founding is one of those because it also has conflicting.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think a lot of people just a lot of people love the mist keeping the mystery in 40k.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and there's a lot of, this is when we talk about some of these off chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: These will be one, I mean, Legion of the Dand are really wild, but even like blood ravens from the Dawn of War series, they have an unknown origin and people tend to love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I actually like it too.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's what I'm leading this way into building my new army.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, let's talk a bit more about them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what we know about the Carcara Dons is at some point their primarc sent them out to the edge of the galaxy to hunt down the enemies of the Imperium with impunity.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which Primer was it unknown and we'll cover that at the end of this cast Brad and I are going to do some John and Brad theory.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what we know is it happened before the Horace Heresy or right up around the outbreak.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's been moved around a bit, but the most recent lore points to them.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying the hitting of the book they're looking at.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the novels and the period of armor are all, they do conflict themselves, yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of time between the two of them, unfortunately.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we've covered this before, the space marine chapters operate with a good amount of impunity in the galaxy, the car caradons are totally different.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are effectively independent in their actions, most similar to the Black Templars.
[SPEAKER_01]: because the car caradons exist to engage and slaughter the enemies of the imperial whether there's e-nose chaos or trader which is really weird because they are exiled they are actually yeah oh they are for some of the artists that is there's some other exiles who are actually more but the car caradons are loyal that's the most important they want to put out they are loyal to the imperial they're bad at being loyal they're the most chaotic good group you could possibly ever see you just I mean can't a good
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're chaotic good, but they're chaos level.
[SPEAKER_01]: Keep, I'd be like, they're not good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, they're alignment is good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just, they're so chaotic.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't always do good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is it kind of how, that's why they're a great definition of chaotic good.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not a well-accepted one when you're on the receiving end of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I was just, you know, anytime you try to say, you have a good, and then I have to talk to you about red ties
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the car caradons have a very specific set of skills.
[SPEAKER_01]: They will find you, and they will kill you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you need to do a car caradon army.
[SPEAKER_01]: I should 3D print a Lee and Nissan head on the chapter master.
[SPEAKER_00]: The red wake will have a problem with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they will, but I'm also a big fan of Darkman.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm always making Darkman and call it a day.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you bring it up an obscure movie reference.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, hello Darkman.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not an obscure movie.
[SPEAKER_01]: Darkman is fully obscure.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't seen that, that's on you.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's on you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen Darkman, but I see everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Darkman's fantastic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, how do they remake that stuff?
[SPEAKER_01]: They remake in the garbage stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, how he stole a lot, he just used them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, in doing the Car Caradonne's work, they're traveling dark space to the galaxy, and they appear almost at random, not each of the damned random, another army.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now they don't just do warpane, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the Car Caradonne's sit out in the darkness of space, they're supposedly they never contact the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's just a rumor.
[SPEAKER_01]: There is always there's so much mystery in the intrigue within the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's entirely possible the car carried on to have a direct line of the loads of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's entirely possible.
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's so far out what's important about them is they sit beyond the sensors.
[SPEAKER_01]: So no one even knows where they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the only contact the Imperium has the car carried on is when they suddenly will appear to fight a foe of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: after which they will kind of leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, every time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, now the cool part about the car caretons, unless, well, I'm gonna say this is a cool part, unless you are near them, which point you won't think this is so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: They operate in an odd way to keep their numbers and equipment up.
[SPEAKER_01]: They raid planets for initiates and slaves, more on that in a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: as well as hold on red ties.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, go to the second one though.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also, they, they rated pillage so much that they have different names for what they're pillaging for.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they have different pillaging processes.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've got the red time.
[SPEAKER_01]: rentizing great ties.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because they also go through it and pick up technology all around there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And even their fleets themselves appear to be stolen.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're they're still ships and then customize them in, you know, for what they could scrounge around.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is most important about them, though, is their tactics.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are masters of stealth.
[SPEAKER_01]: They wait for the most opportune moment and then strike with brutal force when they hit, creating an opening and then pouring through the gap with genuinely horrifying efficiency.
[SPEAKER_01]: They leave nothing but slaughter behind them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll be honest, I'm not really sure how to cover them in more of a linear fashions.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're just trying to kind of move around a little bit because I just said slavery initiates rating.
[SPEAKER_01]: We just get, I don't know what order to do them in.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just going to pay out it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you very much.
[SPEAKER_00]: You got a problem with your life at Willbro.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not neutral.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've never sided with chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've never sided with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do bad things.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've never sided against the image.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I, as I being taken on a ship as a slave, I'm not checking cat it good on the, oh, you're not real.
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, but my point is that other chapters have done things with Zenos, other chapters have aligned with enemies of Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys haven't.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just nuts.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just out of their minds.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have a talk about good soon.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going to have a big shout about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just get going.
[SPEAKER_01]: So
[SPEAKER_01]: a second ago, I mentioned they have slaves.
[SPEAKER_01]: And let's talk about the card, how the card carried on's replenish themselves could might be one of the most interesting pieces of it and it's the key part to their novels.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, there are nicks of chaos and loyalists in some of their behaviors.
[SPEAKER_01]: My point about chaotic good, which is why later, I'm gonna have some strong opinions about their true origin.
[SPEAKER_01]: But,
[SPEAKER_01]: All of the chapters of Space Marines have massive fleets.
[SPEAKER_01]: Homeworlds are at least in the case of like fists and their successors, fortress worlds they can pull from.
[SPEAKER_01]: In addition, they all recruit from the Imperium for like support staff, crews for their ships, armories, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Carcarradans is an exiled chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they have to fill their ranks with what they can scrounge up out basically in the void of space.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk slavery.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me say that in a positive note so that we don't get banned.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Carcarradans have three big needs.
[SPEAKER_01]: Equipment, Marines, and personnel.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're start with a personnel.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll cover it later, but the carcars are not the Black Templar when it comes to the Imperium poster boys.
[SPEAKER_01]: While the carcars and the Black Templar will both ruthlessly prosecute their enemies, the Black Templar don't just slaughter countless in a sense while hunting down their enemies.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going to get to the bedab or at some point, guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just say part of their tactics also that's why they're aggressive tactics don't have a lot of fans in the local population big air quote in the word fans
[SPEAKER_01]: So after the because with the black temple or the back timber come through and they, you know, wipe out the Zeno's or this chaos incursion and they sit there and the pop of this goes, the yay, the black Templars are here and they've come to say, how can we join you?
[SPEAKER_01]: What can we do to help you?
[SPEAKER_01]: You just saved me and everyone I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to help the black Templars.
[SPEAKER_01]: The black Templars say, well, if they're young enough, you can go trying to become a black Templar.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not, you can come to support staff.
[SPEAKER_01]: When the car carried on's finish where they're at, everyone is just making that face of, please let them leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are they leaving yet?
[SPEAKER_01]: So this lack of volunteers leads the car carried on's to volunteering a bunch of the populists to come join them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And by joining them until morale improves.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: And by joining them, it means come hop on our ship that's going to travel in the blackness of space.
[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, these guys are super dower.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like a fun group to hang out with.
[SPEAKER_01]: So instead, they just take a tie to the local populace that they just put a tie though, because a lot of times they take the populace.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's happened a couple of times where they'd actually take the pens.
[SPEAKER_01]: So here's what I'll say, depending on how far into the galaxy they are, they take a different percentage.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's based on if it's a fringe world, they can take the whole populace.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they'll take the tree one in Perium.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for anyone to care, but when they've done a couple of events and butabs, one of them, where they've been closer to the galactic core, in that case, they just take a decent percentage.
[SPEAKER_01]: They Anderson their rules.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we use the word any doubt.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hell, there are no rules.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is one of those things where when we say they take slaves, I mean, we're talking, I wouldn't compare it to the horrific North Africa and Southeast Asia.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is more I think meant to be akin to the press gangs that we saw in merchant fleets like the 16th and 17th centuries, because they don't buy and sell people.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just take them against their will and make them work until they die.
[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe you know, maybe they're all doing sea shanties, what do you think?
[SPEAKER_01]: you're walking around a car carried on fleet people are just harmonizing hundred percent soon may the weatherman come no yeah hundred percent that's that's exactly what i was thinking when i just got stolen you know guys let's say it's a good sea shanty it would be funny it would actually be really funny if that's what the car carried on is going to plant a planet with sea shanty's playing behind them tens of thousands of people getting stolen
[SPEAKER_01]: singing the Weller band?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're going to sit right here and you're going to work on this engine, and by the way, when that bell rings you sing and you sing well, or else, because the truth is they do treat these guys like garbage, by the way, these, it's, it's, it's pretty rough.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you read the stories, the viewpoint that they have is not strong in the superiority of, what's I, the viewpoint they have is quite strong in the superiority of a space marine versus a regular human.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I do want to point out real quick a little diatribe here.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is different than the rest of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, not all of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, the populouss of the Imperium are not enslaved.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just kind of trapped in a cycle of horror.
[SPEAKER_01]: which is probably way better.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like that you need a the source because you keep saying some of these in the same.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, okay, so let's do one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to talk about because we talk about the car carried on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's not that different.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it really is because if you're on a high-world, for example, you have a job and a factory.
[SPEAKER_01]: You need to do that job.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you're not enslaved to that job.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could stop, but it's your only employment.
[SPEAKER_01]: So people do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do leave jobs and they go become merchants.
[SPEAKER_01]: They become, you know, working on a space vessel, or they join a criminal organization.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even the garden and peer of the fence forces are really not that different from most modern militaries.
[SPEAKER_01]: You sign up for a set period of time.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you try to leave early, the commissar shoots you.
[SPEAKER_01]: All you have to do in the garden, for example, is just,
[SPEAKER_01]: serve until the imperium successfully defeats chaos all windows and puts on every single rebellion in the galaxy and then you can go home.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's probably going to happen soon.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the car caradans are more like Astro telepathic and how they handle psychers that don't get to be librarians or inquisitors.
[SPEAKER_01]: No autonomy and you will do what you're told.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you try to not do what you're told, I will
[SPEAKER_01]: That is how the car carodonts treat their people, the humans that are on there.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are pressed into service, they will do the task given to them by their new lords, and that they disagree the airlocks right there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just simply.
[SPEAKER_00]: And one of us is wearing power armor, which is sealed.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, they're pretty gross.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, the car carodonts also possess tens of thousands of void borne within their
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's definitely chaotic.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good John, let's continue on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay, out of good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I do want to, so I'll defend the Monaco to defend.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I guess it's defend, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: The reason the car caradons are this way is they've been separated from the Imperium for 10,000 years.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when the Carcaradans originally came up, this was the time when the space marines weren't just an elite arm of the Imperium, they were the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Emperor's plan was to take a million space marines and conquer the galaxy with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: All the regular men and women around them were support.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, full-groom and Gilliman and Sanguinius, they were kind of cool to the squishy humans around them, but Lehman wasn't, and obviously wasn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even Horace didn't treat the guardsmen that were around him very well.
[SPEAKER_01]: They viewed them all as collateral, and either used them to get in the way of stuff or just told them to get out of the way while I go do something.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, if you think about the car carons from that perspective, they come from this era.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, they see humans as just horrifically inferior.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have fear.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can't.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I guess they can both get poisoned.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but what does the biggest thing for why they look down on them is because Marines have a focus and a drive because they're made to do a certain thing and they think that all regular people just don't have purpose.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of discuss them that they don't why aren't you doing the thing you're supposed to be doing?
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, what is the thing that you're supposed to be doing?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think a lot of it's also it's seeing fear within someone bothers Marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: They understand it because you mean you think about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: We call it they shall know no fear It's true though.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't work in the but they will take up that else say that is the rule Is they shall know no fair and but that's the idea as a space marine never has fear They have they might be timid going into something because they they want to preserve forces but they don't have fear so when they see fear
[SPEAKER_01]: just bothers them at their core, depending on the level.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're going to carcarrot on who lives out in the blackness of space, randomly attacking the enemies of mankind, they're not a big fan of someone saying, hey, it's scary over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about how you make a carcarrot on because this is also terrible and horrible.
[SPEAKER_01]: All space-mrayed factions take casualties, carcarrot on to no different.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when they take casualties, they have to preserve the gene seed.
[SPEAKER_01]: The same time, space screens do have a limited lifespan.
[SPEAKER_01]: In it varies obviously in the hundreds of years, but the car carons have been out there for 10,000, so you've had to replace them a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, most space-married factions get aspirants and then you add the gene seed to them and turn them into space-marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: Deifieds, yeah, meal fights, become scouts.
[SPEAKER_01]: Car caradons have a little bit of a problem which they're not really that full of volunteers and there's no Recruord so they're gonna do something called a red-tive Which actually sounds better than it is?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like we're being honest so a red-tive is
[SPEAKER_01]: Viking raid on a settlement during the red tide the car carried on to pick a human often imperial planet they will descend upon the planet and just start kidnapping citizens.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not like one or two.
[SPEAKER_00]: A metric ton of bros get picked up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, now in the book, is it read time?
[SPEAKER_01]: The thing is the book, they targeted the planet Zartak, which was a prison colony.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the first one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was implied, maybe when they do this, they're not going to agree worlds and taking everyone to their targeting prison colonies, which,
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's they're going anywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe that for one second.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they'll either straight up raid the place or the other one that they will do is if a world is under assault from rebellion, Xenos, or chaos, they will attack.
[SPEAKER_01]: They will slaughter all of the enemies.
[SPEAKER_01]: But afterwards, they will walk up the imperial governor and inform him that hey,
[SPEAKER_01]: We did a pretty cool thing for you to be nice if you could take some people back.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, it is pretty scary because the car care gods like to fight melee combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it is pretty terrifying that these guys just chain sorted everyone to death.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then walk up to you, still dripping and saying, so we lost some people and some supplies.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wonder if there was a way you could make that up to us.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the, it's a pair of governors, Joe, like, well, how many do you need?
[SPEAKER_01]: And they'll come back with, we'll let you know when we're done.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the car carried on's take them up.
[SPEAKER_01]: So whichever method they go, they fill their hold with people.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the car carried on's divide them into three groups.
[SPEAKER_01]: Group one are the surfs, which is the slaves, but they call them surfs.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess that's better.
[SPEAKER_01]: Group two are the ones who refuse to become a surf.
[SPEAKER_01]: Group two isn't around.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to say, otherwise known as dead people, exactly, yeah, that was easy.
[SPEAKER_01]: But group three of the special ones, these are the people that could be turned into space marines, also just pre-team boys, that's what they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: The car carried on's labeled the entire group of the aspirants, did they ask to join this?
[SPEAKER_01]: No, did they express any interest in doing this?
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's important.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't ask me any questions.
[SPEAKER_01]: The group is then taken to the battle pit part of the ship, and they fight each other to the death until only a few are left.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the car car.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a battle royale.
[SPEAKER_01]: Basically.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: With weapons and those that survive, literally, they're then put through the process of having a jeancy then planted, during which they also go through a lot of indoctrination.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not a John opinion, that's written in the books, which kind of makes sense, because they have to take up a bunch of people who didn't want to be a space-free in the first place, made them all fighter to the death, and then turned them into super soldiers, so in that second part, you probably want to make sure that they're loyal, so they go through this mass of indoctrination.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is how the car carried on's keep themselves up with a functioning fighting force.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you might be asking a fun question.
[SPEAKER_01]: How the hell are they allowed to do this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, technically, well, there's two technically's.
[SPEAKER_00]: One, they're not, two, they are.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're not because they're an exiled.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not supposed to be doing any.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they're not.
[SPEAKER_01]: The difference is when we say they're exiled, they are in exile.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are not excommunicated, which when you say exile, the falls of the earth.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the joke I had here is they have an old code,
[SPEAKER_01]: But it checks out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Effectively, they've got some orders from very long dead, lords of terror that allow them to do these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these orders, they think.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of the heat is that they have the piece of paper that Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec has, which says, I do what I want.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's funnier than that because what it really is this piece of paper.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know how old it is or how old it is, but much like a road trader A warrant of trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It because this was signed by someone who was a Lord of Terra It's good forever.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they can't just rock up to an imperial colony and say, we're here for your people.
[SPEAKER_01]: This says I can have them.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was Ted.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Ted the Lord.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally was.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, one other fun thing of that they do that's less horrifying is great eyes.
[SPEAKER_01]: The issue with the edge of space is it's pretty dangerous out there, and a lot of explorers have gone out there, searching for a world to settle, resources to gather, relics to gather, and in their travels, around the dark edge of the galaxy, the car caradons have come up on the remains of many set explorers because, well, go well, let's also talk about this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this, that happens quite a bit, but also if you and I are standing with a piece of Archaeotech and the red, the car caradas decide they want to roll down and grab it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty much a get your own jump or take this.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's that the car caradans, they're always in the search for like archeological sites or people currently holding the technology and it's the edge of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I played a lot of wing commander private here, so these guys are playing in and the car caradans are trying to find a technology because with it, they can then do one of two things.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can either use it for themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: or they can trade it back with the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because this is one of the things they are in exile, but they are not exiled.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Carcheridons are allowed to interact with the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also don't grow.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they add back with care.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they don't, they don't, they don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: They add back with doing that or what.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they actually can do this above board.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if the Carcheridons are space marines, the pack between the Imperium and the mechanic can still still stands.
[SPEAKER_01]: As such, when they find technology, they're expected to share it with the Mechanicum, and the Mechanicum are expected to share technology back to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is how the Carcarron's are able to replenish their equipment.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which, this is a side note for me, as I said, when I'm thinking about building an army, one challenge you have is when you want to build a carcarron army,
[SPEAKER_01]: can you use what models can I use?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because in theory, all car car don't should be firstborn Marines, and they should be using equipment from the Horace Heresy-ish, you know, power armors, all those things.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what up primarismarismarismarines?
[SPEAKER_01]: because Primera's brains were created by call and thus the ad-meck.
[SPEAKER_01]: So can the car carried on straight with the ad-meck to get supremacist?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an arena suit, but that's the thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I, we have a couple of disagreements on this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they can, we talked about this when you're talking about building an army because of the fact that the car carried on's trained with the ad-meck, you can get the knowledge how to make Primera's now from the ad-meck ring and from call.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess so because otherwise because it would suck at always a 50% of the line you couldn't use.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if I'm going to build a car car economy, especially when they're mailing already, they're getting new stuff and they're also making new marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: And please let me know when discord guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am not aware of the car car at on-law because it's so recent or it's like dark old, including anything mentioned they had primaries marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because the last interaction, they've appeared in the liethon, but still, I just don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, but we're going to debate their genes seed later, but in order to do that, we need to talk as much as possible about how they act in the function.
[SPEAKER_01]: And because I think those are the greatest hints as to what the car carried on's really are.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about their mission.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is wild, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Dark Airnons are banished a dark space by their primarque, whom they call the forgotten one.
[SPEAKER_01]: What great a front did they do?
[SPEAKER_01]: No one knows.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what we do know is it had to do with the fury and the fury, which was they engaged the enemies of mankind.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I say that, and I wanted to sink in for a moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: The pre-Harracy, this small group of space marines were so violent and so aggressive and hunting down the enemies of the Emperor that it was decided that's better if we just sent them over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So violent in the defense of the Emperor, an organization that included the space wolves, the fists, and the fists were nasty during the pre-Harracy,
[SPEAKER_01]: blood angels, dark angels, world-eaters, and nightlords.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of them exist, and they went, no, these guys can't be around anymore, send them somewhere else.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they probably weren't super cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: In effect from what I can glean is they were fervently loyal, but couldn't control their impulses.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like the war dogs who later became the world-eaters during the Great Crusade.
[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe more like Thunder Warriors is what I'm kind of leaning into them.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's one of my theories on them is they may have Thunder Warrior, Gene Seed in there, because they're just so violent and so aggressive that yet it could claim lands and conquer foes, but there's nothing left to claim afterwards because the survivors want nothing to do with the Imperium if they're even worse survivors.
[SPEAKER_01]: So my theory, or section written down in an effort to spare them what is the inevitable wrath of the emperor or malkador, their primarquaint, yeah, you guys got to get out of town.
[SPEAKER_01]: I should mention when we talk about this history of them being exiled by their prime mark back in the pre-Harracy days, there is a bit of conflict there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some things have them actually being kicked out in the 30s.
[SPEAKER_01]: Second millennia, some things have them.
[SPEAKER_01]: the outbreak of the Horace Heresy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's moved around a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: The stuff I'm quoting is some of the more kind of more recent stuff that I've read, showing that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And also lines up, honestly, more logically, the idea of them being kicked out so late, but there's no records of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the things that they are that, I don't know, and I'm taking a stand on this.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were the space sharks.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Karker, they're, they share all the common things with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: early.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was an early one.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just it doesn't make sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: They'll be later given that there also weren't a lot of primarks later, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: So when did the primarck kick them out?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because the most of the primarks were gone by M32.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it also affects like the cool thing about the car caradans is that a lot of their history is redacted.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll never really go and listen to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the first thing that they officially tell you about is during the Astroprath
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and just but not much we just know that they existed during the exact same.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the first stacking of the galaxy during that period, which by the way, as far as just you guys, and then there's the thing called the Astro Pathours.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's all we know about them.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the most, it is maybe the most redacted thing and all of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was a war.
[SPEAKER_01]: It probably involved Astro paths.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was called the Astropath War, but we're not even sure of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: We shouldn't even know that much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cool little side one.
[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about what they are doing out in the far side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are out in the far side of the galaxy, prosecuting a war against every enemy of the Imperium, where then we may not every enemy of the area.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're not picking and choosing, they're yes, but also,
[SPEAKER_01]: But also when I find this personally fascinating, we've heard stories before of space marine factions or other groups being set on a war of atonement where they have to go out somewhere, perform some cissophie in task and either die in the process, but if they don't die, they're allowed to rejoin the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: They come back into the emperors loving embrace.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're cured on some of this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the cure counts are just so you guys live out there now.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is where you are.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't.
[SPEAKER_00]: And also, we're totally cool with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: All we wanted to do was wreck face.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And let's talk about how they wreck face.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they are a mix of raving guard, world eater, and dark angel, if I'm being honest, which is pretty badass.
[SPEAKER_01]: So first off, stealth.
[SPEAKER_01]: they're using 30 k tech a lot of times to keep themselves in their fleets totally hidden to the last minute possible.
[SPEAKER_01]: One thing I was teased brought about is in 8th edition we had a codex mistake with the raven guard where you were able to salt sensor heads can infiltrate infiltrate it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's totally normal just because those guys are mobile fortresses doesn't mean that they can't be sneaky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the car cannot actually could have pulled that off.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how sneaky they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are known for incredible scouting operations.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, when pre, they don't really use heavy equipment, but heavy troops into areas and doing stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also use their scout abilities very well.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have a large number of Neo fights, you know, okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have team majors.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also use a shits on a scouts.
[SPEAKER_00]: They deploy so many more scouts than normal forces too.
[SPEAKER_00]: because not only do they they figure out what they're going to do the sneak up they use surgical strikes, but their scouts are supposed to be part of that hand-a-hand attack.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, oh, then they are there might be a more melee army than blood angels from being honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what's amazing about the scout pieces, how they use it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they go out and they scout looking for any weakness in the enemy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what they do is, when they figure out what a weakness is with a lightning level, quickness, they attack and try to force a breach.
[SPEAKER_01]: If they discover that the resistance, they were wrong about anything, they immediately pull back and disappear.
[SPEAKER_01]: reanalyze what they just did and then hit a different spot to break through.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the thing that we talk about space marines doing a lot but a lot of stories that don't cough cough space wolves.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm already going shut up and they go but what's cool about them is they actually will pull back and then pick a new spot.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's terrifying about them is when they do get a breach.
[SPEAKER_01]: They
[SPEAKER_01]: poor through the breach, and just completely slaughter everything inside there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The carcaret ons has written, do not ask for nor will they grant surrender of a foe.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are there to kill and will not stop until every day.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, hey, we always have so much extra room.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the place where we're supposed to put prisoners, but we don't take any of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the section over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the cool thing is, we've been talking about this, they do possess ranged weapons, but they're in a close combat army.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chain swords, lightning claws specifically, are their favorite.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cutting down foes really creates much blood and havoc as possible.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't really even use vehicles very much because, can't believe they're just stealthy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Land Raiders are not stealthy, even rhinos and razorbecks.
[SPEAKER_00]: I did think this when I read what reading our notes before we did this of how do I not have a car caravan's army they play exactly like I play all the infantry super did just strikes brutal They're very similar to the world leaders in their attack although the one key difference I'm going with original world leaders not you know obviously not chaos world leaders
[SPEAKER_01]: original world leaders they would do a lot of blood and horror in like horror in their attacks and it was kind of a warning to other people like hey you don't want this happen to you, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Garcara don't it's not a warning that's just how they do stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, are you trying to warn people?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know what you're talking about.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorite things the car car don't do is actually ship the ship battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: They use it's the same technology as the world leaders use.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have these like large chain guns on their ships for like whatever is.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they shoot harpoons into the ship next to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then pull that ship close, and then run into the ship and kill everybody.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's their preferred method of space combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is... Well, you're nothing wrong with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love everything about, you know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm starting to care and I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know it really isn't more you read about.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, these guys are awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: The creepiest part about them, though, is how they go right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you need to say epic creepy.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're not doing it.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is terrifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, when your current chapter master is known to almost never talk and when he does it's in a whisper, because your entire chapter does all their murder and silence so he never needs the speak louder than a whisper, that's it gets crazy people talk.
[SPEAKER_01]: When in combat, no matter how loud and crazy the battle gets, the car caradons are silent.
[SPEAKER_01]: They'll box to each other a little bit just communication, go left.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing you hear in a car caradon assault is their armor and their weapons.
[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, the other side.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say anybody that fights with them, they'll think since banana pants weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's terrifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, let's get to the best part about them, which is why neither Brad nor I have one of the armies because Terminator's suck on the tabletop, but Carcaret on Terminator's do not.
[SPEAKER_01]: They still suck on the tabletop, but in the lore they do not.
[SPEAKER_01]: All space marine chapters have Terminator's, and they're always the most elite.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the car caradans, I think their term is pushing to just stare and elite.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they call them by the way, the Red Brethren.
[SPEAKER_01]: First off, they have a modified suit of Terminator armor, which is covered in rooms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh no, let's talk about this first.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I want to set this up to talk about how vicious they are.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're called the Red Brethren.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, John.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why are they called the red brethren when they are in full white armor?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because as soon as they get there, they hand to hand and they are covered in blood.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's why the red brethren.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I love the fact that you're like the red brethren.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's a white terminator.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're all white.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, give them a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in it, they'll fix that.
[SPEAKER_01]: They use, and these terminators are, again, to present heavy melee.
[SPEAKER_01]: They all use relic weaponry, which is, if you want them with that means, intent the dish and you can have an enhancement on your characters, these guys have an every single term there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Using just insane, like, music lightning calls, primarily.
[SPEAKER_01]: I actually not aware of the music and vermin thunder hammers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're mostly lightning calls and chain swords.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're also even cooler thing about them from the Lord is that they're both terminators, but they're also like space marine chaplains.
[SPEAKER_01]: But because only the most car caradani of the car caradans can become a red brother.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love everything about that one, car caradani of the car caradans.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to that, sir.
[SPEAKER_01]: They believe in the mission of the car caradans more than anyone else, and they deploy to battle not just as battle support, but also as battle supervisors.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the main ones they do is a red tie.
[SPEAKER_01]: So when a red tie that's happening, the red brethren deploy and they take up observational posts to make sure that the tie goes well and making sure that the people performing the tie are following directions correctly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this can actually means that they will come into conflict with the car caradons themselves because just like with a chaplain in a legion,
[SPEAKER_01]: they might deem a captain or if there's a company master not doing the job well enough and they'll just come relieve them of command in the middle of a red tithe I have a big fan Karkey another reason to collect and have an army of these is because they have some of the most badass titles
[SPEAKER_00]: of anybody who is shade lord, shade lord is a chapter master, Reaper, Reaper Prime, a void brother, which is just a regular, if you're a regular guy, you're a void brother, I, and it's just, they have such like sinister titles, it's just wild.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the coolest things about the red brethren is teleport strike.
[SPEAKER_01]: So all space marines can teleport.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys don't teleport nine inches away.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just put it down.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, not all of the face screens.
[SPEAKER_00]: Terminators.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's it like?
[SPEAKER_01]: All space screen terminators have to go to teleport strike and the lure they do it differently to hop some of the better effectiveness than the other to red brethren do it with horrifying efficiency coming in.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't arms length the way from people.
[SPEAKER_01]: they teleport in and then immediately slaughter something that they're standing next to do more slaughter than teleport away and teleport back down elsewhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are rough and there's stories I forget which one it was but there was a story where it was a bunch of imperials we're about to be overrun by chaos and all of them they just smelled ozone and a bunch of car car designers appeared killed everything and then teleported away.
[SPEAKER_01]: and everyone just out sitting around going like what just happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now another weird one about them and I guess it's cool are their librarians because obviously they recruit and train psychos like anyone else does but their psychos actually have two additional powers.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is more like a D&D thing for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're a wizard.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I have lines with some of our
[SPEAKER_00]: Sankers are badass in the books like Manoeufeu is like a bad dude, but their psychers are bad people is the other thing too.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're real bad people.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're all bad people.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they've got these two powers and I find them to be kind of funny because the one power is called the depth.
[SPEAKER_01]: which is the power that creates fear in somebody, making you, they describe it as it makes you all of some believe you're in a giant watery expanse that's ice cold and just sucking all the energy out of you and all you do is panic, allowing you them to easily kill you.
[SPEAKER_01]: But then the second one is 100% a finishing move in a video game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it is called the Rending Mall in which case they cast up power and the ground around you reforms into a giant shark that comes up out of the ground and eats you and then goes back into the ground.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you just cast a subting from Final Fantasy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was going
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little odd.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: One other thing about them is what they look like because we haven't really discussed this very much.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the car caradons are where it's a gray armor and they carry a bunch of icons and jewelry.
[SPEAKER_01]: Their armors, in effect, it's a bunch of like etchings and flares.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was the first time I read this, I was thinking, Chockeys, but not Joanna.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because she's like, it's like Ryan.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he wants to have you have a minimum months 11 now, but you could want to put more on there if you want to yeah, it's like that you got you got to be like Brian you got Loaded up all the way, but yeah, it's not buttons and stickers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Although you could do that if you're building the army.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's usually depictions of aquatic predators I kind of want
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be honest, what I've read this forth I'm actually grown because it was so lame.
[SPEAKER_01]: The cavity decorates themselves in ruins of ancient aquatic predators.
[SPEAKER_01]: They live in the great expanse of space.
[SPEAKER_01]: I understand they're trying to do this shark thing, but also I want to point out there were no oceans on earth during the horse heresy around them because they all got melted during the techno-barbarion wars.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of weird.
[SPEAKER_00]: Still the best name of war.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we should also mention what they look like outside of the arm.
[SPEAKER_01]: So as a result, their genes, he's pretty prone to mutation and degeneration.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they physically do look a little bit different.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're skin, and this is varied a little bit in the code X's, but it's written more specifically being extremely pale to the point like grayish,
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want maybe purplish you, they'll almost dead, like a dead body, which is probably not helped by the fact that they are never in sunlight, because they live inside of a ship where there is no sun, because they're on the void of space.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're skin pushes towards translucent with a purplish hue.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what's the bigger piece about them that they're eyes, which are completely black.
[SPEAKER_01]: So good news, if you gotta paint them, and you like me to like painting the eyes on your space marines, just black.
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to do anything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just make the rise black and you are law-racured.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, because it's a whole eyeball, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not the Irish, the entire eyeball.
[SPEAKER_01]: Making them look fricantarifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, from there, what I wanted to finish up with is...
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, I'm just, yeah, you're not selling how sketchy they look.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can, I want to give you a quote from one of the books.
[SPEAKER_00]: Tiberius, when his face is revealed, it's a corpus white nightmare with half the bones of his face to expose the bloodless grimace.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is eyes?
[SPEAKER_00]: There's so little depless black.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a direct quote from the retide.
[SPEAKER_00]: These guys, other marines, think these dudes...
[SPEAKER_00]: are scary.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what I like is, there are planets where they show up to save the populist.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, let's think about how that experience goes.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're under assault, Zeno, Chaos, Rebellion, whatever it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: The core characters are going to show up in power.
[SPEAKER_01]: They show up fully masked.
[SPEAKER_01]: You see great power armor.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've got a shark on them, which you don't know the shark is, but we'll skip that problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: and you know they go through and do the whole thing and afterwards it's oh let's go thank our saviors off pops the helmet the dude may be speaking and we say a whisper it's more like someone who's totally lost like their voice so maybe like Marlon Brando and godfather i think they given that his voice is from the grave is each then so the undertaker all right now i'm back in
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm back in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, don't tease me without much of a good time.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so that's, and then they take a hell of a day to be like that, and then they take their helmet off, and they, you're talking to what looks like the largest corpse you've ever seen with pure, like, depth of space black eyes, soulless black eyes, thank you very much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who then informs you that he'd like to have some of your people, please.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably going to be great for everybody that leaves with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: He seems trustworthy.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like to cut of his jib.
[SPEAKER_01]: But let's finish this up with what we think the car carrots are.
[SPEAKER_01]: And before Brad and I jump into our personal theories in the origins, I'll give you what does exist in the lore out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: most of the lore revolves around them being Ravenguard.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is because, we have not a Ravenguard cast yet, but before core acts took over the Ravenguard, the original founding of them stem from a pre-dark past.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Terranborn Ravenguard held from what's called the Asiatic dustfields, they were masters of stealth, but they were really brutal.
[SPEAKER_01]: They would infiltrate upon it, they'd butcher them in the night.
[SPEAKER_01]: Their actions were normal.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they were in no moods.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was saying, they also blurtured everybody in the night.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're enemies, just if are you in this general vicinity, will you're getting killed tonight?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and what happens is Corax then comes in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Corax didn't have a great upbringing, but it's better than this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And just says, no, you guys aren't doing that anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's actually written in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a bit of a conflict because Corax couldn't convert all of the chapter over.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the, some members of the chapter just disappeared during this era.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so the belief is that the carcaradans are a part of this, where he just looked at them and they could not do what he wanted them to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: But because they were tearing born space marines, they still were incredibly loyal to the emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he had a choice of Dwight, just want to kill off these workers or send them to the galaxy and let them do it out there where it won't be a problem for the emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he does that.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've been a little bit of my theory in this because
[SPEAKER_00]: they talk about them being gravy guard and this is why I like the time frame of them being my personal of them being before the Horace Heresy and or but the exact same time because you can't be a successor chapter of the raven guard after the raven guard goes down to co-rex and fifty guys exact after the extra pod mustard drops that mascara so I feel that this makes more sense to me and none of this is canon because they're again shrouded mystery well this is what I think they also
[SPEAKER_00]: They work as savage Ravenguard and they, all the stuff they do.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Ravenguard.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, you very, very certain terms.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're, uh, uh, the shade lord.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a term they use.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like 100% they're, um, they're all successor of that, you know, but because they left before because it doesn't make any, again, that's why you either have this timeline or a much, much later timeline, because it makes no sense of, during.
[SPEAKER_01]: but there is some conflict there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first one is there's a book where there's a group called the Ash and Clos.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Ash and Clos are an exiled.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're a true exiled.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're renegade.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're a renegade loyalist force.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: They actually are, they did enough bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Imperium did kick them out.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they still are not chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're out there just also fighting chaos and Zenos, but they're much more solo than the Carcaretons are.
[SPEAKER_01]: They refer the Carcaretons as not brothers.
[SPEAKER_01]: They call it, they refer the Carcaretons as actually being more akin to the world leaders and having history there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, the Carcaretons hold no affinity or connection to any other space marine legions.
[SPEAKER_01]: But my favorite one of the, we'll call it Canon Conflict, but it's written in Conflict.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Car Carotans will show up and with the death watch ever now and say, hey, I'm here to fulfill my duty.
[SPEAKER_00]: This cracks me up so much because I just think of this as to the Bishemi.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, fellow Space Marine, a fellow, sorry, fellow death watch.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here to do my duty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who the hell's that guy?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's just Steve.
[SPEAKER_00]: What?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like what is happening?
[SPEAKER_01]: Why is Steve here and his guys like Steve can fight?
[SPEAKER_01]: So I say, we let Steve end.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, like everybody else comes with these rits of all the things that they did to become part of the death watch and then Steve just showed up and went, yeah, man, I got the email and I came.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, no, there was no email, Steve.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was on the email.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you should check.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even your death watch fortress is a knock at the door and you open it.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a space Marine there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm here to do this thing for a bit, and then they leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what's the reason I bring that up is that one of the car carried on serving with the death watch died.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so when the death watch apothecary went to grab the gene seed,
[SPEAKER_01]: The noticed this is chimeric.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's got mixes of numerous different everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it was a stew.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which leads the question of were they?
[SPEAKER_01]: Are they an off chapter?
[SPEAKER_01]: Were they actually was a mixture?
[SPEAKER_01]: They were they an experiment?
[SPEAKER_01]: Or is just 10,000 years of degradation of the gene seed makes it not really clear?
[SPEAKER_01]: But Brad, I'll let you go.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you had your theory already.
[SPEAKER_01]: You want to add anything else to where you think they're from?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, my biggest thing is I think that they are as close to castes who can be because more we're talking about with the degradation of the gene seed.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've had to jury rig effectively the gene seed over again a 10,000 year span.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that
[SPEAKER_00]: I like that they're shrouded in mystery and I don't want to know the exact because I like the I like the debate of this, but I think that there are origins.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't see them not being raven guard initially because they use terms.
[SPEAKER_01]: I disagree.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're in the North.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't, but think about when it's happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: The reason why is the reason thing of the night, the world-eaters is first off the way they fight, which is because the night lords are not that good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, well, that goes a good at fighting a combat against overwhelming odds in their favor.
[SPEAKER_01]: The world, the world-eaters are, don't, they care not.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going through this gap until you have it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But when we did the world-eaters cast, the one thing I want to bring up is the world-eaters remember got broken up early on.
[SPEAKER_01]: They had their own almost codexistarties moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: by the emperor's well-before-angron ever got there right and they were split up in different groups and the ones that we know are the war dogs were the most were the biggest one but my theory is that the one that forgotten one who exiled them was Melcador.
[SPEAKER_01]: It actually was that you had a chunk of these, just remember, the world leaders are being pulled from all over terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was no one area.
[SPEAKER_01]: But if you pull a bunch from one spot that were like the Asian or the Asiatic Wastes, again, I'm going way off the deep and on John theory.
[SPEAKER_01]: But my theory is they come, they're actually a world eater group that were good at stealth.
[SPEAKER_01]: But because like world haters, they just could not be controlled.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now could or could it makes the thing of it this way?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give you a part of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just if you're going to go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can't like the to cast type thing on that.
[SPEAKER_01]: The nightlers for me make more sense because the nightlers don't fight.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but that's the whole thing you take those guys, the, those, that offshoot.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I think it's sent out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the reason I like this world, the idea, though, is because if you think about we talked about this earlier, they're able to show up anywhere and just take humans, like it's nothing.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a weird ability to have unless the person who said you could do that was malkador and who else would take a group of drooling murderers and just say all right, go fight over there and kill everything over there, then malkador that is a malkador.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're home, alkador think it's still be a river.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be
[SPEAKER_00]: And at the time of this recording, my current army that I just put on the board was raving it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, good for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, but with that, we're gonna conclude this coverage of the car caradons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Next week, we're gonna actually not talk about them at all, but we'll talk to them again in two weeks, because next week, we're beginning the Badaab war.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was doing the research for this and the Badaab war is massive.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I realized it might not be pronounced Badaab and for those of you who don't like
[SPEAKER_01]: Bad news, you're going to have to listen me say it wrong for an hour and a half times.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because next week we're going to talk about the beginning of the bed dev war.
[SPEAKER_01]: It might be buddhob.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, say no.
[SPEAKER_01]: For those of you who are saying it's buddhob, fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: I will be honest, we're going to record the next one of these before this one publishes.
[SPEAKER_01]: So all of your comments on me how to pronounce it better will fall on deaf ears.
[SPEAKER_01]: I apologize.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, until then, John Barsati Bradchester.
[SPEAKER_01]: Disgusting.
[SPEAKER_01]: See you all next week.
[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
