Mmmm, hey, hi, Hello, it is Tuesday. Maybe the ten twenty sixteen disease and sickness plague are gripping the office here on the Giant BombCast. I think we can draw a direct line to the baby of the Yes, Griffin a strikeerff, you know what I gotta be right, babies hang on. First of all, I've never heard that child's name spoken. It's a good names before Griffin gripping a strike. It's like a superhero. Yeah, he's the one baby that has a direct line to this office. Yea. And Jason was the first to report the sickness. True, I will come in the middle of the night last night, popping unhacking. Jason didn't make it in today. It's and I was asking Drew right before we went live. So babies get sick easier because their bodies have not built up like immunities or resistance to certain things. Right, Okay, So babies get sick super easy, passed down to their parents, right, sure, Jason, the don't always They don't always pass it on to their parents because you know, it depends on you know, the resistances of the parents as well. Shouldn't Jason's body be prepared for baby sicknesses. I mean, he was a baby, so at one point, so that is assumes. So yeah, but you know, at some point, you know that if at some point you're just gonna get sick, yes, no matter what, Yes, that people are gonna get sick. You can't avoid it forever. Baby, no baby, Perhaps the mother has not been licking the baby enough. Yeah, what that's the thing. I don't know if there's any validity to that, but there is. There's the idea that if the mother licks the baby, the mother will build antibodies for whatever is on the baby. Is why. I like cats do that and then pass them back to the baby through the breast milk. Doesn't seem like I'm saying that actually works. I've heard that said before. I don't know. I'm a firm believer. And at some point you just need to let your kids get dirty and get sick, and that's that. Yeah, you can't necessarily exactly if you just like live, let them try to live this antibacterial life, then at some point they're gonna like some kind of super flu is going to come through in ten years and wipe out everybody, man sterilize everything. Yeah. No, sterilize everything so that something really nasty can get us something not nasty at all. Right, yeah, something something totally benign. Did you see that the new hand washing plan came out? Uh forget the CDC or who who devised this. It's like a new forty five second routine for like maximum for rubbing your rubbing. It's like an eight step process for like first you lock the palms together. Okay, all right, and you make it that makes a little fart noise. You can do it right. Then you like put your I can blow through you put like you stack one hand on top of the other and like interlock the fingers and twist that way. And like there's a giant diagram explaining exactly how to watch the whole Like here's the tears, the steeple, open the doors, and everyone's clean. Yeah, it's almost exactly that. Huh oh boy, Yeah, well, I mean dirty hands are a problem. Like every all that everyone decided like, oh man, we gotta save the environment. Let's switch to these air dryer things that just blow the nasty ship all over. The bathroom apparently, by the way, already filled with nasty shit literally just fecal part particles, yeah, surrounding us everywhere. But again that's you know, if you have to look, you have to inhale some feces now and then otherwise something really nasty is gonna get you. It's true. You have to expose yourself to the bad shiite. Just try not to think about it. I bet a lot of illnesses gripping the nation today here on May tenth and Charted four release day. Yeah yeah sure, Oh yeah, that's a second. More like Jason. I shouldn't have said that with Jason's manager in the room. More like sharted flues day. Okay, there you go. I don't know Nathan Drake, more like Nathan go on puke Okay, all right, yeah, all right Drake compuke don't really sound not really no, nope, it's got a k in there. Yeah. You wouldn't want to sully your reputation by coming into the office when you're sick. There we go, all right, welcome to Sam Francisco. No, I don't oh man on chart at four is out? Yeah? Yes, uh, Dan, you have played it to completion. Yeah, I can actually talk about it now. Yeah that's what you can't. No, you cannot, I can you got it? I wrote a whole dame review put put ear plugs in down there. I mean, We're not gonna, We're not gonna and I'm not gonna say any spoilers. You're not gonna sit here and exhaustively spoil the game or anything. Yeah, Brad, how par are you have? I'm almost I am like right at the end. It's like I'm really in the end game. Like some some late game reveals have happened. Okay, like a big twist just got dropped. I think, wait a minute, doesn't twist? Hang on, what is it? Blue dudes? God damn it. No, there is a shocking lack of supernatural bullshit game. Okay, yeah, from what you Also, you haven't finished it yet, so as to be fair, every Uncharted game saves it's supernatural bullshit for the last ten percent. Yeah, but then also every Uncharted game seems like somehow longer than you think it's gonna be. So you're probably two thirds the way through it and you're there's blue dudes. You to open the next door, as we man I like to be to be perfectly honest, I'm very clearly right at the point where blue Dudes would show up. Okay, if they're there, and it does go on, just like every uncharted it goes on longer than than Yes, that was the thing when we were going over your review before it went up, and you said, I was like, man, they really do all do that. Yeah, it's just like you you think that all the story stuff is kind of tied up and everything, and then it's like, yeah, there's a bunch of these big battles I gotta go through, which cool big battles and everything. But yeah, it's it's a little bit over long. Nothing crazy though, which Brad, I'm curious. I have not talked to you today about it, like are you with me? Whereas like the first few chapters, like they're good story wise and everything, I wasn't blown away, but then as it kept going I kept getting more into it. You know. Again, I've got like maybe two chapters left judging by the chapter selectlist. Yeah, but the second half of the game is dramatically stronger than the first. That was important for Like, absolutely there's some some huge story payoffs with some of the stuff they set up at the beginning, but they are also like there's a couple of chapters in particular in the front half that I would straight up called boring. Yeah, but there's but once you get further you're kind of glad they're there because I think they do a good job of establishing Sam Drake the character. I'm talking about extended stretches of just like climbing on shit. Yes, yeah, yeah, and that doesn't stop throughout the game, like you're climbing on ship. But I feel like later on they start finding ways to integrate the climbing with some puzzles. That's that's interesting. Wow, it's got real green in here for a seconds. All good. I'm still tweaking knobs back here. There's a lot of switches and buttons and dials which I was sitting and missing with lights and messing with with audio. So at the end of a space Odessey in here, Yeah, I am turned off some post processing and put some other ones on. So we'll see how it goes. Jeff, how you're you're also playing it? Yeah? Have well? Yes, I played some, say I am on chapter seven. Oh wow, okay, so I feel like I'm probably at the part where the game gets going, I guess, or I would say so, yes, although I would I would say eight and one. Well, it's just the discussion is gonna be a whole lot of try and guess it where you are without just spoiling where you are. I think I know where you are, and like you're actually coming in on kind of a I have moved on to a new location, and I am I started that point and I was like, you know what, I don't want to do anymore this right, there's an auction that you go to that I think is really exciting, but the stuff after that is pretty slow. Uh wow, Okay, I was gonna say the opposite and hope that it was gonna change soon. You got through that slow stuff and then it really picks up. I'll go through the slow stuff. So I'm not through the slow stuff though. I think you're You're is christ Man. You're at the cusp of when it starts getting really good. Think sure, Yeah, that is every Uncharted game got. You got just on the cusp of when you'll get it. No, no, I don't mean get it. I mean just when the story really picks up, and like it once it once it starts, and the story like I've always thought the writing was really good and previous Uncharted games like the dialogue and like you know, when Nathan's talking to Atlanta and everything. The banter, Yeah, I thought the banter was great, but I never really cared that much about the story, right, It was all just kind of the oh, mystical whatever, I gotta go find this thing, and then supernatural shit at the end. Whereas this is the first one where I actually really really liked the story from beginning to end. It feels like they grounded it a little bit. There are reasons your stuff to have, Yeah, your your motives, why you're why you are going out on this adventure. All this other stuff at least feels like it's grounded in something semi real. It's just they just tremendously more developed characters across the board, even characters have been around for since the beginning of the series, if they go in the way greater depth on like their backstories and why they're doing what they're doing. And I think, as I'd say so far from the early parts of the game, I don't like the brother character at all, Like, I just I think he's I think he's he's all right. And I grew to like him more as it went on, because, yeah, they kind of established him as kind of a sleeze bag and that sleeze bag. But look at that kind of shifty look at the hair in the jean jacket, like he's got dirt he's got he's got Jack Nicholson hair, Like he's yeah, yeah, he's like he's your dirt bag brother who was in prison a lot. He's just seen Ambrose. His look is like a couple of steps removed from Trevor from so like right, right, I mean, come on, he spend some time he's a dick. Well yeah, which is kind of a lock though. Yeah, speaking of that, this this game actually really kind of uh nods at like, oh, yeah, Nathan is kind of a dick. Like in the past he's like, oh, lovable rogue scamp Nathan Drake. Where he's this one, it's like they kind of acknowledge, like, yeah, he's kind of a selfish assocte. They go out of their way to remind you that, like, hey, this guy's a thief, like first and foremost he is. He has a thief and a scoundrel and puts that stuff and the treasure hunting stuff above more important things in his life. And yeah, it's they do a really really like stuff, no disrespect whatsoever. The first three games, like they're all really well made, but like they put all those games all put the treasure hunt front and center, like that's the thing you're doing, and like everybody is just there to serve a purpose in that hunt. Sure, Whereas here it's like I think, I feel like the characters are driving the story and absolutely the Treadsure hunt just plays a role, but it doesn't lose the big like set piece stuff and the big action scene like I would actually known for. It's even though even though the like the pursuit of the ancient mystery is not the main thing driving the story, I also think the Ancient Mystery is the best it's ever been, Like yeah, tell me in terms of them uncovering clues and like you trying to work as they're doing it to piece together what happened and what you're chasing, Like it's that stuff has never been more engaging. Like it's it's extremely well written and put together, and all the different locations you go to and everything, like it's another globe trotting adventure. Yeah, but like I like all the places you go to. Yeah, it's I think it's by far the best uncharted game it's I mean, it's got the same problem as the other games did, where like some of the action set pieces, some of the spectacles, like if you don't like dial a combo, your way through it exactly the way they want you to do it, like it totally just the momentum comes screeching to a hall. You know, that only happened to me a couple of times. There are a couple of those hand to hand fights where in the middle of like what seems to be a cut scene, like you'll Nathan's hand will go near something and all of a sudden there's a square next to it. It's like, oh shit, I totally missed that, and then you die. Yeah, there are a couple of points where I've practically taken my hands off the controller because it seemed like a cut scene and then you had to or you know, there's a spot where like like you're you know, they make you do some of the climbing and like a really breakneck like action packed fashion, and a couple of spots like, oh, it looked like they wanted me to jump to the left when in fact I was supposed to climb up and like it just kind of stuff is yeah, the first the first long climbing sequence was On one hand, it was nice because it felt like the climbing had some stakes by adding some stealth mechanics to ye to that stuff like, that's good because it's gameplay and where before it was just like there's one path through this good luck, you're never going to fall because this game's too easy, like just wait for his arm to reach out, like all that stuff was just kind of brain dead. So on one hand, it's cool that they kind of found a way to like make that, you know, a little more engaging. At the same time, it only exposes that maybe that system is not that great to begin with, because then it's suddenly like, okay, well because I didn't, you know, because the path forward was not obvious. Now I am stuck falling over and over again, or or standing out of this rooftop and going like, well, I know where I need to get to, but like I don't. I'm not sure where I need to go, and the controls are being a little finicky here, and I'm not sure if I'm able to do the thing I think it looks like I should be able to do. So I fell to my death five times in a row trying to make this jump, and like, oh okay, okay, I can make this jump. I just need to stand here instead of here, even though where I was standing seemed like the right place. Definitely, definitely like one too many spots where you're having to guess at the intense Yeah, the designers, it's like, Okay, it's not me figuring out what to do, it's just me guessing at what you wanted me to exactly. I guess I still prefer that where you're dying a lot to some thing like I remember Enslaved where you could only jump if it was a safe jump, like you couldn't jump to your death and that right, No, totally, but yes, I think you're right. But also I think it just speaks to like the whole system is flawed, Like from the core, it's it's all, it's all I can incredibly contrived. Yeah, it's you know, like it's not and one of those things where it's like, you know, like making it less of a game is not the answer, and making it more of a game is probably the answer. But I think the way they made it more of a game only kind of brings a few more problems into it, but I think that works more often than it doesn't. Though, like that those times do happen, like you're talking about where it gets finnicking and you don't know exactly where you're supposed to jump, But for every one time that happens, I feel like there's ten times where things kind of play out the way they want them to, and a lot of times that can feel really cool. Sure, it can feel like you're actually kind of influencing this and doing what you're supposed to do. But yeah, I see what you're saying, Like, I'm glad that the checkpoints are pretty generous though. Yeah, Like it's literally every every time you're every time you pause it, it's auto saving, it's doing stuff, it's you know, it's they've got some sparks stuff in there. Because you can restart at checkpoint, but you can also restart encounters. Yeah, so you don't have to roll back to the last story checkpoint. You can just start at the beginning of like the fight that you're in the middle of, and from the main menu, there's an encounter that, like if there's this huge set piecing that you want to see again, you can just go straight to that at any point. You don't have to have a save or anything. You don't don't even have start at the beginning of chapters to see specific action sequences. Like it's it's definitely to their credit they have broadened the combat stuff pretty significantly. Like you haven't really gotten to the stuff yet because I think it actually is the next chapter that you're headed to where the stuff really kicks in. But like the combat spaces are like way bigger, broader, and like, you know, you've got the grappling hook now, so like pretty much any fight you get into, you guaranteed there's like two or three grapple points where you can kind of swing around the sides of stuff and shot while you're swinging swinging, and you can like jump off and like land on a guy with a punch or and then this gun pops up in the air and you grab it out of the air. Does it have the multiplayer has the like charge, yeah, attack where you kind of hold down the grapple button then you can then just one ki square Does it have that? That doesn't need it, I assume, But no, no, that's totally a multiplayer that yeah, which that feels good. And multiplayer when you when you pull that off. You know. They they've also beefed up like stealth mechanics, Like yeah, I guess you've gotten to the point where you can tag guys like far Fry style like that that's in the area. Know, there's a little bit more in the way of stealth kills and stuff, But I feel like they added just enough stealth that I wish they had gone further with it. You know. It's like now I'm at the point where I wish I could like throw a rock to distract the guys, right, you know, like they didn't add any of that hiding in the tall grass and taking people out and stuff like that. Like that's that stuff felt pretty good. Yeah, that's pretty cool. And I like that you can just completely bypass huge gunfights. Uh, Like there are huge areas where it's like, well I can if I can sneak past all these guards, I don't even have to fuck with them. Yeah, they can just keep doing their thing. That's cool. I guess I just I just never really liked the shooting in these games that much. There's and I still feel that it's kind of not like not as good as it It's never been like best in class yeah, it's fine. This one I don't. I'm I haven't. I didn't play that much in chart at three, and it's so it's been a while. I feel like I'm lining up targets and cover yeah, where it's like Okay, I'm gonna now pull the aim trigger and shoot this guy and then for then the radical is like three inches higher than it feels like it should be based on me lining up where I think it should be, So I'm constantly having to like hold down the trigger then move down. I have found it just seems weird. Yeah, I'll say I found one rifle in the game that I actually like using, and that was in the last like that was around like chapter sixteen or yeah, like AK and most of the stock. Yeah, it's all rifles you get are so swimmy that it's just not Yeah, it's once you get to some of the more like tank like enemies that they'll drop the sweetness or yeah, the guns start getting better. But yeah, like the shooting is is what it is. Yeah, that's that's a bummer. There's a lot of stuff about that game like that I feel like should be better. For the number of them they've made now and all this other stuff like I don't I don't know, yeah, but people like can find it's for better or worse, like Uncharted has a feel to it and stuck to that for sure. They just kind of have stuff around the edges. But yeah, I mean it's weird to say that. Like, like Dan, I was just like you, like I was kind of bumped out when they announced that they were doing a fourth Uncharted team, I was like, oh man, PS four came out and I was like, it's like, all right, time for a new Naughty Dog trilogy. Let's see something new from these guys. I didn't want Last of Us two. Yeah, but I also didn't want to Uncharted four, like I loved Last of Us and I don't think it needs a second one. So I was to ask, what's the new thing they're gonna do, and bow Uncharted three Yeah that was the thing, Like, well, so fucking I'd say that until I saw the end of four, and the end is it's it's really good, right. But he's saying that's why I didn't want an Uncharted four. Yeah, dude, Nathan's think could be done, Like that's why I thought I didn't. They almost literally walk off into the sunset at the end of three on a beach or whatever. You know, it's like he explicitly says, like I'm out of this life. I'm done. Like that's it. That was the last adventure. Too old for the ship. But I think that's maybe the coolest part about some of the early parts of this game. Yeah, you see him, like like him getting back in, him not wanting to be it back in and why he gets back in, but then kind of realizing he sort of can't help but get back in. Yeah, and you see him, you see him just living his life at the beginning of this game, and that's that Stuff's kind of cool, really effective characters. And Drake can't stop. Yeah. Yeah, Like he still has a job, and like it's cool seeing what his job is and how he utilizes his skills for like a legal civilian way. You know, they do. They do a lot of good stuff with like I mean, this game is not exactly pulp fiction, but a lot of kind of flashback and flash forward stuff, like sort of playing with the order that events play out in different time periods, which is fun. Yeah, and like you know, considering they created the brother character for this game, and like they go to a bunch of flashbacks, like they fill out things about Nathan Drake that have never been mentioned before, right, and they kind of don't plain why it's never been mentioned, but yeah, it kind of makes sense, that's the thing. They do it like definitely enough that it doesn't feel like they tacked it along, right, Like it's like, oh, this is this was just the backstory of the character all along. And I will say, you know, I'm sure by the end of the game they've found even more reasons. But right off the gate, right right off the bat, the guy that seems to be the antagonist of this game is a fucking dick. Yeah that guy guy, Yeah, yeah, right, yeah yeah. The reason yeah, man, he's man, fucking what a weasel. That voice acting and the animation, everything about it. It's one of those things that, like the the graphical fidelity really goes a long way to you know, the facial ticks and just like stuff. Yeah. Fuck this guy specifically in that auction chapter, like cave in the front of his face with the butt of a rifle. The scene over and over, the scene the scene at the auction where you're like you're in the middle of a black tie affair and all of a sudden he just like smacks the drink out of Sully's hand. It's just like, oh man, it's on so je if you're saying in a good way, right, Yeah, I think that's that's. Yes, they've done well by the characters and stuff like that. It just it's it's it's a visual quality thing, I think as much as anything else. But also you know, just the quality of the performances they're getting out of that motion capture and acting voices, all this other stuff. Just the way that stuff comes together, uh, really goes a long way to just you know, even the early parts of the game, as you see kind of Nathan Drake getting sucked back into the life and just the way his face looks after all these years and and all this other stuff, Like it's it's it's it's yeah, it's a quality is so high. Like there's there's something that happens about midway through the story that kind of takes the wind out of his sales. Nathan's Yeah, and in like pretty much the entire chapter after that, even the banter with the brother, just the off the cuff clips and stuff. Yeah, like you can hear it and everything he says. In his voice, you can tell he's like still dwelling on the thing that just happened, you know. It's it's so it's like subtle, but it's so effective. And all the new characters, I think, you know, Rave, there's this girl, Nadine and Sam. I think they're all great additions, and I think they're more fleshed out than any of the you know, villains or side characters in the past. It's it's it's so weird to me that, you know, I could not have cared less about getting a fourth and Charted game before this, and like at this point, I've never cared more about what was going on in Charted game. Yeah, it's it's it's superbly done, but still, ye still, I wish I actually enjoyed playing it. That's that's maybe my problem with it. And that's been my problem all along. As you can look at it and you're like, man, these are so well made. Uh just the technical prowess on display and all that other stuff, but man, I mean I just get no satisfaction out of the shooting or climbing. You know. It's it's the same thing it's always been. It's a mass market thrill ride. You know, it's it's made for like ten or fifteen million people to play, you know, not not just people literal way into Dark Souls or whatever like it is. It is. It's got mass appeal, you know. And there are spots where like like I hate that they pop up a giant glaring icon every time you need to use the grappling hook Oh yeah, like it just floats, you know, on this edge of the screen. Anytime you're within like one hundred yards of a grappling hook point you need to use, it just pops an icon up. Like I wish that they use some kind of more environmental cues for stuff like that. No one ever looks up. I guess again, it's a mass market game and for all these people, that's what I'm saying, can do it. There's a no hud mode and the options you can just straight up turn off all had stuff. Huh. I wonder, like you know, they are spots where, like you said, like you just straight up have to hit a button prompt like like a quick time event. I would have to match zom those stay on. Yeah, yeah, you know they would have to. Yeah, I guess so you're probably right but I mean, I I love spectacle, and while I'm with you that maybe some of the nuts and bolts aren't as refined as you know, like the best shooters in the world. I don't think any game does spectacle as well as entry. Yeah, I would agree, Yeah, yeah, like that they showed a D three. Uh, I'm trying remember how much they showed. They showed it was the motorcycle chase, sliding understuff, but they showed like the jeep stuff at the Sony Prescott. They eventually put I think that you're right with the stuff that you and I saw. They put out a video. They eventually put that stuff out that I mean, that's to at the point I'm at in the game, that's still like the most crazy exciting sequence that's happened, and like it's it is second to fucking note. I'm glad I didn't see that crazy it is, Yeah, I can't. Everything showed the whole thing that happens after that. I saw the jeep thing at the press Scott meeting, the like the closed door meeting, they had a D three. They showed the rest of that sequence, and I'm so glad I see and they and they did end up. Yeah, he's he's right. They put out a video of that afterward, and like that's so far. That's been kind of the marquee action sequence in the game, so that was publicly available. Like that whole sequence, the chase and everything. Oh man, I'm so glad I didn't see that getting getting dragged behind the truck and yeah, that was the sequence where like, yeah, literally my jaw dropping like the whole time. It was like holy shit. At the same time that that was definitely like us watching it back in the three years, like man, fucking holy shit. Yeah. Yeah. At the same time though, like when I was playing through that thing, like like when you're you're at the point where you're driving the jeep and you kind of need to jump out and grapple onto the truck to to like my jeep like clipped a rock or whatever, and I lost just enough speed that I lost the distance I needed to catch up to that thing, and then I just failed out. You know. I've had a few like weird technical things of like, uh, you know, there's the part where you're kind of walking around. This is all early on stuff, but you know you're kind of walking around this party and following someone and he's like just walking into stationary AI characters and getting hung up and then clipping through, you know, like other enemies clipping through staircases and just like freaky shit like that happening along the way, Like there's some there are some rough edges there. Sure, yeah, like it like it's it's that stuff is so awesome when it works that it just makes me. It just makes me sad when it doesn't, you know, like it's it's it's a little unfortunate, but yeah, and that only serves to make those moments stand out that much more. Like it's this uncanny valley thing almost at this point where you look at that stuff and go like, man, it's so close. Uh, but this is still a video game, and it's still fucked up in the way all video games are fucked up. I had I had a real Terminator two moment when I was in the back of that truck shooting at the motorcycles driving alongside. I was like, man, this feels just like that scene in the La Rivere Motorcycles, Like, oh man, it was absolutely something else when it works. Uh, it's a really really good game. Yeah, still an uncharted game. I think it's as big of a jump up as two was to one. I mean, you know, it's huge. After four games, they're kind of way into diminishing returns. Yeah, it's it's it's more of that. It's just kind of better done than it's ever been before. Three I think was super or just more uncharted. Yeah, you know, three kind of disappointed me. I mean, it's still a really well made game, but I don't think it really did much to to top two at all. I think two is a better game, sure, but yeah, I think four is a huge jump up. So then I guess the only question left now is you guys ready for Last of Us two? No? I want something new? What if they did? What if they did Last of Us two? I mean, I'm sure it would be a great game, but I like that as a standalone, incredible thing like that, the story was so wrapped up at the end, just leave that beat. Only if they did a true detective thing. Yeah, yeah, totally, that was gonna say. Yeah, that's the only way. That's the only way I'm okay with that is if it's like none of the characters from the first game or even mentioned. Yeah, it's the same world story in that world yeah, because then then you fill the bullet point, the marketing bullet point of like this thing sold of Brazilian copies and people line up to buy another one. If it's called the same thing, you know, they would do the dumb thing though, where it's like at one point, like you're pulling up to an intersection and Joel drives buying a pick up, which is the gas. It's just it's like Joel rides by on Giraffe. You know, on Charted four is the second h It's the second game from Naughty Dog that you know Druckman and Straylie have directed, and like, those are two of the best written third person action games I have ever played. So I will I will pretty much follow those guys anywhere at this point. But it would be nice to see something new on Chart four in stores now. Great game. I don't know if we've been playing much else. I memberships are on sale. Yeah, we should point out the membership of music were we go? We've been playing the membership sale, Yeah, we've been playing hitman U The Giant Bomb. Premium memberships are on sale for a handful of more days this week here. If you've not gotten in, uh that would be giant bomb dot com slash upgrade if you want to look into that. Thirty five bucks for for an annual subscription, and that's you know, that's a way to get in on the Mario Party party happening tomorrow Wednesday. That's a way too. Let's say, if you wanted to maybe at some point in the relatively near future watch this podcast to be recorded live. Oh, that would be a way. Now fucking now, I find out before it goes up on the site, before it goes up on YouTube, you could watch it as it happens. That's that's coming pretty soon here. So uh yeah, giant bomb dot com slash upgrade for those I told Rory we would mention it last week and I forgot so memberships on sale. Still some time to get in. Yeah, here are dumb sound effect. Yeah sign up? Yeah, Mario Party Wednesday, the day after this podcast goes live. I hope, I hope everybody's not like have died at that point. I mean, wouldn't be kind of poetic though, if Mario Party ended with me getting all of you sick? Isn't that kind of in the spirit that is? I feel like every Mario Party party has ended with me feeling sick. So why would Mario Party Party six beau different? This one has a microphone. Great, Yeah, let's all breathe into the phone and do you have each other sick? Do you have the microphone? Yes, we have the microphone, microphone. Is this a GameCube one? Yes, it's the third GameCube one. I think I played it back in the day. Not much though, Like people have been tweeting at me saying, like there's a whole day night cycle thing, there's like auction stuff going on. There's a microphone. Like some people told me this is the best Mario Party really yeah, wow, finally, Yeah, it'll be good to play a good one. Doesn't somebody say that about everyone that we play? Then? No, I don't think so. I said that about three, three is my favorite. But yeah, some people say six. So every third Mario Party is yeah, get a good one. That's the nine, three, six and nine. Yeah. Everyone loved nine obviously. But yeah, we've been doing the we did the Hitman thing. We've just sent next DLCI. There's Hitman content on the site. It's been very fun. That game is great. Yeah, it's really great. I keep really great. I keep meaning to dig into that. Yeah, I've not played it yet. I mean it's a Hitman game, yea, necessarily, Like I always found the old Hitman games to be a little clunky, and it seems like maybe they are. They along the way, they've maybe kind of at least streamlined it a little bit. It is still janky and weird, but it's there's no other game that lets you just fuck around as much as this game and like present some really bizarre situations, Yeah, in which to fuck around. Yeah, you know, like you'll just stumble upon conversations and be like, oh man, I'm gonna I could kill him by dressing up like his dead mom and coming out of one rab or something. If you want to sneak into an underground science lab and take out a bunch of hazmat suit wearing scientists by throwing cans of expired spaghetti sauce with their heads, or replace someone's golf ball with an exploding golf ball and pretend to be as golf coach and take him out onto the links and then he blows up. That type of shit. Yeah, okay, that sounds all right. It's great. People. The people in the Hitman universe are like the worst judges of character and identity, and like, all you have to do is put on somebody's clothes and they immediately will think that you are that person. Doesn't matter if that person had a long mane of hair. Yeah it's a bald guy with a barcode on the back. Oh, I guess that's that guy. We got a haircut and a barcode. Age forty seven is the best impressionist in history. Some stumble on a circumcision knife randomly, the circumcientist. I keep a few around. Yeah, you never know, you never know. Those are those are a joy. I look forward to every new DLC they do. Absolutely, Yeah, we will keep checking back. It's kind of awesome that that game worked out, Yeah, because that thing, like it was all that's weird, late minute late changes and stuff. I mean, people seemed really sketchy. People were skeptical enough when they first announced it. Yeah, whatever weird business model that had then and then yeah, like two months before release, they were like, we're refunding people's money that bought that package and changing it to an episodic model. It's like, oh, you're building a nightmare, right, There's no way this is going to turn out to be get any good at all and instead like they are killing it so far. Cool, And I really like the model, the episodic thing like those have never been the games that I want to sit down and play a six hour marathon session. I wouldn't want to do one mission after. These maps are too big, there's too much going on, Like it would just be too much hit Man. Yeah, the missions are really long. It seems like by just having like one or two missions out it really if you do like playing it, it probably inspires you to spend more time in each one that you would normally. Right. Yeah, it's it's really a great model for that serious specifically totally cool. Uh Dan, you mentioned Overwatch. Yeah, I like that game. Yeah, I like that a lot. Like I had not seen any of it in action until we did that Unfinished with you playing it, and it looked really good. But now now that I've played it to a decent amount, I'm super looking forward to the full release. The last beta that I got into, I played a little bit of it and kind of just I don't know, it just sort of rubbed me the wrong way and and I was just like, well, you know, I didn't really any Team Fortress games. So I guess it makes sense that I wouldn't like this and kind of moved on. But it's with this open bet, I kind of just jumped back in and messed around with it a bit, and it's it is incredibly well made. Yeah, like just and like in a very friendly way. That game that has is assumes you know, no, that is hilarious. It's like, it's great fucking follow this character around the environment in case you don't know how to walk in a person game. Yeah, if you thought, look up chief right, yeah, now it's like look left soldier. Uh yeah, it's uh. They make it easy to kind of I feel like jump into any one of the characters. Like I was playing the there's the they had running one that was just like every time you spawn, you're a different character mode and and so you know you kind of have to hit F one to bring up the like here's the list of what all these abilities do. So every time you spawn, you okay, I'm gonna spend like three seconds looking at this, go I'll figure it out, and and just running out there and trying to figure it out. Like I didn't feel lost the same way I feel in a lot of other games with a lot of other characters, you know, the like other kind of mobis and other kind of class based games and stuff. Yeah, and like the cool down on the abilities is short enough that you can just try it out. Yeah, and it's not a big deal. And it's not you know, like some of the stuff about that game, like Doda or something like that, with the shop and all that. You know, there's just a lot more to worry about with that stuff. So you know, this obviously a pretty different kind of game still, even character in class based because Battlebourne has that thing where we have to hold up and you have to pick the like, yeah, you level up, like there's there's no leveling zero. There's zeros force of a match, right, yeah, I mean you get your old but yeah, that's it basically. Yeah, So they've adapted some of those concepts into a just a friendlier ship but from the friendliest thing. And I wonder if people hate this, but I guess I would have seen people complaining about it, But it just it feels like that game has some very generous auto aim even with a mouse, where like I was I had shots that I was lining up well enough at a great distance. I was using a may and she's got an alt fire that shoots this ice spike and then she's got her up close kind of ice missed thing. Uh, And I was lining it up with someone was the sniper sniper character that's pretty far away and just kind of like, I'm just gonna shoot some shots in their direction, maybe get them to move out of the way, and every one of those hit or every one of those fired on target in a way that like they shouldn't have. Is that one of the like slower projectiles, because I kind of noticed that with I played as Genji a lot, the guy and he throws three shurkens and it does seem like there's a bit of a home to him. Yeah, or they're like it just feels like, you know, maybe the radical is a little bit bigger than you think, and it'll just kind of dial in the rest of it for you, which under normal circumstances in a lot of shooters, especially on the PC, you'd be like, man, that's terrible, no thank you. But in this case, with some of those slower attacks and stuff like that, that like end up getting frustrating in a game like that, Like it actually felt kind of welcome of just like, hey, let's just make this easy going, like, you know, have a good time. Yeah, just have a good time about it, get close, pull the trigger, It'll be okay. I mean games like that, it's always a balance between like how survivable are you and then how much does it take to take down? Yeah, and this game, like it doesn't feel like you're particularly survivable in this game. I mean you're playing, well, you're gonna you're gonna make it. But if you're just like if you're taking fire from an enemy, you die pretty quickly. Yeah, I mean that forces you to play tactically. Yeah, it doesn't. Ever, it doesn't feel to me at least like a game, you know, like you you're just getting sniped all the time or I don't know why I died or things. It's not Call of Duty where you're dead every five set exactly, but also rolled up behind the shotgun. Yeah, usually when I die, I know why. The response times are pretty shorter. They are, but the penalty comes in a lot of the slower characters and like you have to run back to combat. So it's almost like a battlefield situation of like when you do die, you're like, okay, now I have to trudge all the way back out here, and so that made me want to maybe occasionally play as some of the characters that had just like movement abilities. That's yeah, I've gravitated towards the ones with like jet packs and like fly. Yeah, she she get off the ground with it. Yeah, so I didn't realize that at first. I just thought it was a boost boy, but then I just used the right stick you can fly on and stuff. Okay, that's cool, you guys even awesome. You guys all playing on PC or I'm playing on Xbox. Actually it feels yeah, it feels great. I heard, yeah, I heard. Just you know, Blizzards never made a first person shooter game before, but Blizzard is really good at making tough yeah, paying attention to the detail, Yes, they certainly are. Yeah, if it feels fantastic. Yeah, I was a little worried how it would work on consoles because it seemed like such a twitchy, mouse and keyboard kind of game. But it's, like I said, like, even with the mouse and keyboard, it feels less twitchy than you know, Quake, you know, than like a typical shooter would feel like a typical competitive shooter for sure, Like it feels like they've they have deliberately kind of toned down the twitch to have it be a little more like, like I said, just pointing their direction for a trigger it'll happen, and kind of make it maybe more a little bit more about like team composition and like classes working together. Yeah, because you know they do the whole thing when you're picking of like you, yeah, you healer, or you should have another engineer. That's really cool, dude. Have you guys found people give two ships about that or do they just pick what they want to? I've tried to don't. I don't know that I can speak for the rest of the brandom people I've played with, but yeah, I don't know. So I'm curious to see what the the environment that game will create, like like what kind of tone will the player base take and will it be different on a per platform basis, because it's so far I've only encountered one person using voice chat and he fucking sucked. So, uh was just like the worst fucking Like what can I believe you guys are fucking bullshit that you get from a lot of games like this. So I don't know, But like the text has been you know, there has not been a lot of it a text chat and what has been there has been okay. So I just wonder if it's the sort of thing, like because if it's the sort of game where people are going to just brate you and and all this stuff like the wrong call, yeah, then then forget it. But so far it's not been that. It's been nice. Yeah. I could see that being a huge emphasis if and when it moves into like esports territory, which I have to imagine is coming, I guess, you know, because like like like with Competitive mobis like the drafting phase is like a huge part of the game, right, Like that takes like ten to twenty minutes in some case is of like picks and counter picks and bands and blah blah blah, and like did you can see that like getting a team that plays together all the time and having like kind of an optimal build or team composition. And I think that will depend on the map and the mode. You know, like if you're escorting the payload, you're gonna want to go this way. If you're on attack, you're you don't want to do this. You know. It's like there's they're going to be uh situations like that, but I don't know. It was fun to just try stuff out, like just okay, they're escorting the payload. I'm gonna build this ice wall in front of the thing and see if it stops. Okay, it totally does. But then eventually it did break through and they shut the wall down or whatever. It was. It's fun to see how those characters to put together, Like the I can't remember the name of the character who's like an esports champion herself, and she's so her mech will get destroyed. She can run her right, there's like a whole other movement and weapon mode when she's out of the mess while you're waiting for another mech to spawn. Speed Rumbler. I had a good run with her where I ended up blowing up four mex in one life and that awesome. But I wasn't necessarily using the mech destruction like that's a big part of it is like making sure it blows up near somebody or there's a self destruct. Yeah, if you're if you're doing one of the modes where you're you know, taking a point or something, if you have to get really far away from it because that thing's radius is huge. You do get really far away. Yeah, because the one time I get it going, like one time, my meter actually filled up and I still have the MEC. I was like, fucking awesome, Yeah, fuck this shit, And then I kept running and still dige. I thought it was gonna be like a murderdom grenade from right. Yeah, it's huge. Yeah, I don't know, it's it's yeah that that game feels really good. And I wonder like if it's maybe because I played some battle Balling before this or whatever, but or just you know, some of the other games I've been playing that Like, I just feel a little more ready for that thing. But that game is easy going in a way that I did not expect, and I wonder. I guess my worry is that as you say, like, as they get further and further down this esports hole, uh, will that eventually totally destroy that game for people who just want to have a good time, right, I mean that would mostly be on PC, you would think, right, probably, yes, But I mean, well, people are talking about Yeah, people are capable being shitty on regardless some platform, and if they if they watch enough tournaments to feel like they know what they're doing and then want to dictate that to the rest of their teammates who are random strangers trying to have a good time. Then that gets in the way, all are you doing the strat? Yeah? Because fuck you, That's why. I mean, yeah, I'm not. I'm certainly looking to have a good team makeup. And I've you know, I've played the Healer, even though he's a shitty DJ. I had an amazing run with him. I had a couple times was playing that playlist where you spawn, like it just picks one for you, and I was like, Okay, I guess I'll play this guy, and then had an amazing time. Yeah. I think if they have that mode in the final game, I think I'm probably just gonna play that. Yeah. I get the impression that maybe that's like something they can rotate. What that mode is kind of the here's the Weekly because it kind of build it as a weekly mode, So I wonder if they'll just kind of rotate through it. But yeah, the random, the random character of the stuff, I thought was that was a a good, cool, low stakes way to get exposed to a lot of different characters, which is smart. Do we know if the current open data is the entire game, because like, I haven't played it since the last alpha phase, but even then I felt like the number of modes was a little lacking. I don't know for sure. I have seen some people say that it is meant to be pretty close to the final game, which how many modes are in? Now? Do you know? It's it is like play versus Ai, and it is play versus Humans, And it's custom game if you want to try to, like, there's some rule changes you can make there, but then you're you're obviously like looking for you know, friends and all those stuff to frow it up. And then there was the random hero mode. You don't get to pick map. You don't get to pick what like if it's a payload map or whatever. It is, like you just get to go to the maps. I suppose that that's probably true. I don't know. I don't know. I didn't guess. I didn't play enough to see the same map with different modes on it, but I don't I assume you could take the payload shit off a map. My impression was it's My impression was, it's basically either deathmatch or payload, and that's kind of it. No, well, there are objectives to take and stuff, so it's like, you know, here's point A, and sure, when when you have point a, a meter fills up for your side and someone else is trying to take it and do the other team, I'm trying to take it back so that their percentage fills up. Whoever gets to one hundred first wins. And that's a multi round thing because they're a straight death match. No, okay, maybe I was wrong about that, but the point it's not that I've seen point being in terms of like modes and objectives. It's pretty standard shooter fair totally. I felt like there were a lot of maps. Yeah that's good. Well I didn't, you know, I only played like I played maybe six hours or so, and it felt like a lot of variety. And visually, I really like the design of the mass Yeah, they're wildly different. Look at the characters. I really like the art style in that game, and it works in a way that I did not expect. Some great it's so funny coming so close to battle Born. Everything about battle Borne rubbed me the wrong way immediately, from the characters to the sense of humored. And I played some more of that in the last week too, I also did and it's awful. I keep thinking about it. Yeah, for some reason, I keep thinking about playing more battle Born. It makes me angry, Like I'm angry and how much I hate that game. Every time I play it. I'm just mask for me. It's been this real curiosity of like, I feel like I need to spend more time with this to try to understand why it's the way it is or why it's rubbing me the wrong way so much. But yeah, it seems impenetrable in a way that Overwatch handles all the abilities and stuff so well, like on console, on Xbox it's just the leftipad and it's like, oh, there's my abilities. And I hate every time in Battlebourne because there's so many characters. I want to try them out and see the abilities. But then every time I level up, it's like, all right, I'm gonna hold it up and try to read this real quick and see what's going on and what ability does what. And it's organized in such a messier way, and Overwatch it's just so clean and streamlined and I have a good sense of what my character is. Battlebourne just looks worse. It's more obnoxious. I think having a lot of characters locked out of the gate yeah, just kind of. I mean, I understand not wanting to overwhelm people with choice, but at the same time, it's left me wondering, like, oh, is the next character I unlock going to be one that's actually fun to play? Because I started rotating around to different characters there and didn't find anything I liked either. So it's you know what, Overwatch gives you a ton of choice, but I've never once felt overwhelmed playing that. I went through and did a match against Ai with every single character before jumping online, and that was awesome. I loved doing that because, like you get to find the characters that suit your play style. Yeah, and it didn't. It didn't never seem to me that like this is a better character or whatever. It was just more like, oh, someone else is probably really gonna like this one, yeah, but I'm gonna go with this guy. Yeah, I don't know. Uh, the battle Born stuff. Like I plus playing on PS four, it seems like match making time times have only gone up really and like the first couple of days it was fun. But yeah, well it's I mean, it's not like out of control or anything like that. But it was like the games I played, and I was waiting a little bit to get you know, you'd get like five people in for a split second, and then one would quit and then someone what else would join in, and you know, even before the character selection, so they weren't even doing the dickish thing I did when I was trying to, you know, see a different characters, see like stick with a character for a little bit. Uh. And then sure enough, like I got into a match and I was playing the one where it's there's a you know, the creeps are trying to run into like a goal goal kind of like points. That one was sort of an interesting and then the goals move like halfway through the match or whatever it is, but a neat idea. It's, yeah, that seems like a neat idea. But then the other team got like twenty points up on us, and the like the goal is five hundreds of twenty doesn't seem like this insurmountable thing, and then two people immediately quit. Nice. I was like, okay, and you can't surrender. So it has a surrender mechanic, but it seems like you can't surrender for the first chunk of time, like eventually, and eventually someone on our team called a vote for surrender and I said, sure, I'll stop playing. Have you guys mostly been doing the competitive modes? Yeah, so I've been trying to the first time I played it was a story and that's when I super super hated it. But then the competitive stuff is better. It is better playing you know, that kind of mobile like mode and everything, but it's still not good. It seemed like it could be okay if you had a team of people you knew and you were all communicating and trying. I would say that about damn near any game, right though, you know that's the That's the thing we always say, right, is like, yes, it's definitely is, because then you've got something to focus on other than the game. I guess, I guess what I actually mean is like that seems like maybe the only way to play it effectively. Maybe, yeah, because there are enough things on the map you have to activate in different like skills to synergize together and stuff. But also like the game does a bad job I think of againd of like showing you what those things are and kind of letting you learn the maps and stuff, like the perspective works against it. Yeah, they've got that prologue mission which kind of serves as a tutorial in there, but it doesn't it lars how to fucking shoot things. You know what a checkpoint is? Yeah, it seems like it's a tutorial for the campaign missions. It's tutorial for the multiplayer, which is the thing you need some info on. Yeah, I don't know, man, it's I that's I'm well, I'm very curious about a lot of things about Battle Born, specifically because I just I think like so many of the dessistant decisions that went into making it seems so questionable, like top the bottom. It's like, man, like this seems like it should have been better, Like like look, I know, like there are people that that have I feel like there are people that have it out for Gearbox, like like post Aliens, Like there was just kind of this this absolute things took a turn for the people's perception of that studio, But I still think of them as like, you know, Borderlands one was incredible with some flaws that then they didn't necessarily fix in Borderlands two, But Borderlands two still had a lot of things going far and man, they're certainly capable of making a fantastic game. But then post Borderlands two, I feel like they haven't ye or even Borderlands two, I would not say it's fantastic, but post has just been Duke Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines said the two presequel you could kind of Autrelia did a lot of work on that, so that's not necessarily but like it was a Borderlands game, it's you know, so it's and and their logos on it. I think they did do some work on it. It's not like they just farmed at all that it seems like the consensus on presequel is it's kind of the weakest Borderlands though. Definitely, Yeah, definitely, But man, there's like there's Borderlands three that exists in my head that's like fucking incredible. Yeah, Like yeah, And I think that they are totally capable of making that game, Like I think I was saying it last week, like it's just there are so many things that have changed about the way lute shooters are that if they really lean into you know, and if they really lean into Borderlands three the way that they seem to be, it could be really it could be the thing you always wanted Borderlands to be from playing the first game. But yeah, man, it's yeah anyway, I feel like a lot of people have kind of turned on that studio a little bit, but I still feel like that they are like seasoned and capable of making a really grand game. So that's that just serves to make Battle Born that much more confusing. Of just like, man, it just feels like they looked at the landscape, placed some bets, and then didn't necessarily execute, Like I think in some cases they placed the right bets because I think they looked at, you know, the kind of the landscape of like, well, on console, there's probably going to be a market for like people if we take some of these kind of MOBI esque mechanics and find a way to adapt them for a console audience. There's money in the middle of that, which it worked when they tried to do Gablo and first person shooter. That totally works. So I can see them being like, well, let's do another genre. Yeah yeah, And but so I understand like maybe why business would have led them to this point and why why they would have placed these bets, But man, I just the execution across the board, and then I guess, like the humor thing is especially disappointing because it feels like them doubling down on like some of the worst parts of the Borderlands too. Uh. And then it's just like, man, there's I think they're just laying on too thick. Yeah. We quick look like you know, like I feel like maybe one out of ten jokes like kind of hits yeah for me. Yeah, So like what if there were ninety percent fewer jokes, you know, Yeah, as opposed to every single line of dialogue trying right, every single character has to be like I'm the funny robot. It's like, no, the other robot with the funny robot. Uh, they're just throwing Kansas spaghetti at the wall. Yep, but none of them are sticking. Yeah, it's whatever. I don't mean to harp on on battle Borne. It's certainly it has certainly seen enough of that. Yeah. Yeah, and kind of I guess kind of a mean spirited way to some extent. Yeah, but yeah, I don't know, Like for me, it's just it's it's this situation of just like man like Gearbox felt like it was poised to just take on the world coming off of Borderlands one, and then everything has happened since then has not been living up to that potential. And I really feel like Porderland's three is going to be that make or brick moment. And I know they've got it in them. Yeah, No, they have it in them to make that game and have it be awesome. I just man, maybe they've had some crack squad of designers working on the kernel of Borderlands three all this time, you hope now ready to go, like the battle Born team rolling onto Borderland's three, like the stuff they said about it, Like they talked about Borderlands three it was like a couple of packses ago and they were like, hey, we're ready, but we need people, so like it was part of like a higher recruitment drop. They were like, hey, Borderland three is obviously gonna come, Like we're not idiots if you want to help make it, like we have a ton of fucking openings. Yeah. Uh. And then more recently, kind of in the in the wrap up of the battle Born uh pre released cycle, in the news cycle and stuff, they kind of reiterated like, Okay, Bordoine's three, let's fucking do it. Uh man. Man, that's a game that's that's encouraging at least just bring rolling back to life, just at least in tech treat form, just that exact tech treat done. The most survivable character they've ever made done. Uh did you did you have the shield or just the turret? He had the turret with a shield on the front of it, bubble around it so you could stand in the radius hurt in the second one. I mean it was fine, but it was it was not broken the way the turret was in the first game of just like, I can survive anything this game has to offer because I picked this character. And I guess there were some people that felt that way about some of the other border went Lands one classes, which I guess that's the mark of a of a well designed game. Yeah, if you have people that are vouching that way for every class. I really felt like Roland was just busted in a way that was absolutely fun and like fun to play that game alone, even which was not the ideal way to play it, but you know, you could get through it. You could survive just about any encounter. I just I need better encounters out of a new Borderlands. Yeah, especially was I mean the boss is like the rack High When Borderlands one was broken, you could just kind of stand in one spot and just shoot it until it died. It was kind of farmer Racks. You could fall off the ledge and just kill it like it was just there. They've they've had exploitable boss fights in a way that they need to not and they just weren't like very interesting encounters to begin with, even if you weren't exploiting him. Uh yeah, Like like a Borderlands three that takes all the best lessons from like Destiny and the Division totally and stuff and becomes it just like takes those lessons and goes, nah, fuck it, well, you know, and goes a different way with it. I think that that's that's totally viable. Also, Yeah, I just I I need more interesting things for a team of people to do in a loute game. Sure, Like, Yeah, like Destiny's been good with that with the Raids and Divisions got some some cool stuff. Like battle Borne would have been a decent diversion in Borderlands three. Sure, sure, like in the context of a much wider thing having that be like, because you know, they've never really done a good like competitive multiplayer in Borderlands. Yeah, you know, they've had duels and stuff like that that like theoretically is kind of neat but never quite works out. That death match arena, yeah, it was not good. I like how it started if you slapped someone and they slapped you back, and that was the other way. That was a great It's a good way to initiate a like put a dome over these people while they fight and and go. That was cool. Well, battle Bourne is what it is. But I'm I'm actually kind of shocks to hear this much enthusiasm for overwatching here like that. I mean I was. I was definitely surprised, you know, because it I played it and like, I'll probably just you know, Soldier is the fast moving class for shooter players, Like maybe I'll stick with that, And I was like, ah, fuck it, man, Like, I you know, like that's he's he's got his healing radius thing. That's cool, makes them a little more survivable. That's neat. But let's you know, I heard people talking about all these other classes. Let's get in there and try it out, And like, the more I spent time looking at other classes, it was like, Okay, this isn't a situation where it's like here's a bunch of shitty melee classes and the one shooter. It's like, okay, they all have some pretty good fun shooting options, Like there's some good stuff in there. That said, the soldiers alt it's pretty great. Just that visor. It's just like we'll just hold in the shoot everyone. That's a pretty good one. But I think that's it's yes, totally. And also like seeing that from the other end of seeing his visor and seeing the big thing out in front of it, like the big kind of red hud in front of him as he's doing it. It's a really cool indicator of like, fuck, I need to get away from this asshole. Like they're really good at kind of like what they're silhouettes and stuff like It's yeah, they've those guys have made some video games over the years, uh, and they've seemed to have picked up some things along the way. It turns out they're quite good. Turns out they're all right at it. Like I you know, I was shocked, you know, like from the genesis of like we were making this mmo right and fuck it just wasn't coming together. So here's the shooter portion of the MMO that we scrapped. It's like, okay, well, so we've never made a shooter before. Okay, well, all right, so here's all this cast off work that you're kind of repurposing into this Team Fortress clone. That'll be good, Like oh wait, no, actually, okay, fuck me. I guess all right, but I guess like that's seeing the number of skins and unlock balls and all other stuff, like, I wonder what kind of business they cram into that after the fact, Yeah, especially like the pricing disparity. You know, it's forty on PC and sixty on console. Well so, but there's a sixty on PC also because it's just like it's they're just getting currency getting you're getting skins. Yeah, and and so that Origins edition or whatever it is is the only one they're selling on console. So it's yeah, I don't see how this stuff goes. Yeah, yeah, I wonder if it's got enough legs to support sixty bucks. But we will see, surely, you know. Well, yeah, I guess I guess we won't know for a bit. But at the same time, Blizzard has a pretty good track record of supporting its games for a good long time. That is very true. You know, they're just we will we have not seen the last Diablo two patch probably you know, uh, that's fucking weird. Yeah. Total Diablo three is still getting like much of like yeah, like recommend update. It's not just like security stuff, you know, like like that's yeah, you're not wrong about that, damn for sure. I'm glad that they didn't just fall down a Hearthstone hole and say like, yeah, let's sit on this money for totally, because I don't ever want to play Artstone. I keep thinking about it. It's good. Have you played it? When I first came out, I played a lot of it and not have taken you for I would either. I'd never played a CCG before, and I heard people saying like, oh, this is like the best way to get into it because it explains everything really well. Got on my iPad and played a lot of it. I played through all the tutorial and just kind of at that point I was like, nah, it's just this isn't like I just don't like building decks. I don't like that type of ever. Supercard Yeah, well that was like look at the numbers, put the highest one in. Done like it. You know, that's not really a deck building a lot of strategy there. There's minimal strategy and I think they've they've added a little bit to it over the years. But uh but yeah, like that's just that's not the That's another type of strategy game I'm looking for, is like, you know, what are the combos? What card combos don't want to make? And oh, if the draw is gonna be right, look at this this that's it would be a great segue into forty minutes of clash royal talk. Great, finally let's get going move on. You know, instead, what's that? I don't think I would have pegged you for a solitaire slash horse racings game either. That just seems like a game that anyone can enjoy. Everyone loves horse racing. Horse racing very hot right now, it's at first, I actually thought it was some kind of meta prank game when I first started playing it, because it just kept doing these tutorials and tutorials and tutorials about these systems and mechanics that were just increasingly elaborate and confusing, And I thought the name of it this is it's like a six or seven dollars download. I thought it was going to be some weird fucking joke on like some commentary on tutorials and confusing systems. But I eventually, after playing it enough, I kind of figured out how it works. But like Drew, what was your impression when we started that we did a quick look. It'll be up on the side this week. Yeah, what was your impression on what I was showing you? There? It Well, so the quick look starts and you you basically go through every single system in the game. And as someone who like likes systems, like loves learning how to fly you know an E ten ward Hog, uh, and play super complicated board games with Austin Walker. Uh, it was a lot. Yeah, but I know why all those systems is in there, and once it clicks, it actually does feel pretty good. But I think it's just especially confounding because I think a lot of people saw that trailer and it's like, oh, okay, it's like a little Solitaire game where the faster I play Solitaire, the faster my horse. Yeah. I was hoping for some kind of like whearted cross between like horse raiding racing, like Solitaire with a little bit of horse racing weirdness applied to the weirdness, and they keep piling systems on top. You know how Dark Souls has a lot of weird. Man, it's on of weird systems, the dark souls of Solitaire games, like oh, if you're in a level three comfort zone, when you're running on the inside track, always in a level three comfort zone, you'll build more unity power and which if your horse is in a good mood and you rub the giddy up button during the in between Solitaire races, you'll get more energy, which translates into enthusiasm for the final stretch, which it there's so much shit going on in that game, like made bind Nintendo, It's game freak. Oh wow, yeah, watch the quick look it's it's Is it good? I think it is. I've got a plane trip coming up, and I'm totally down. That is that, sincerely the core of the game. The faster you play Solitaire, the faster horse. I mean, that's one of the nine thousand things going on. Like by the end, when you're in the home stretch, you're actually just controlling your horse with arrows and trying to like get around other horses to get in front of them, So you're not even playing Solitaire at that point. No, there's a point where you have to draw the path of your horse and guess where other horses will be. Yeah, based on the for its own forecast frozen synaps of horse racings. Would you have to you know, manage your your stamina, which if you go along the outside it will be a less crowded pack, but you're burning more stamina, which means you won't be able to use as many boosts in the home stretched horse. Yeah, like there is so much going on in that kind of incredible. A thousand angry Nintendo fans are going to send me shitty messages for asking this question. But with this, with this game work on a phone? Uh yeah, yeah, yeah, because yeah, I would. This sounds amazing and I really want to play this, But convincing me to continue carrying a three DS around with me is becoming a very I don't see, Like, I don't know mand you see those Pokemons sun Moon starters. I mean, don't you want to train that fucking cute little owl to fight for you and live inside a tiny ball and murder? Don't you want to train it to murder? And you put it that way kind of? I mean, damn near everything is on the touch screen, like you can hold an L to speed up. Well, I mean it's rhetorical because they'll never put it on a phone. Yeah, like that doesn't seem like wading. Well so far, it seems like they're about putting like phone specific things on phones and not just pouring games. Yeah, there have to phones. Yes, we'll see, but we'll see if that's maybe they'll change in the future. But although I am back to carrying my three DS around everywhere because I restarted Across three D and remember that that's like the best Funds game. God damn, it's so good. My three DS, my new nintens of three DS has been sitting on my nightstand for this entire calendar year with the battery dead. I can't remember the last I had a bottle of water on top of it for a while. Okay, falls, yeah, well it's a bottle. It's a bottle. The Solitaire horses are calling you, Jeff, Yeah, I yes, I want to play horse Solitaire. But actually, hearing you describe it as this very complex game is making me want to play it a little less. But as you like, it's going to seem super confounding and impenetrable when he first started. But if you just keep playing, you kind of start figuring out what's going on? Skip that tutorial? No, because like I played a bunch at home on my personal three DS, and then we have to do it on a capture kit because of the way three DS captures go for a video. So I thought like, oh, I can just hit X and skip through all this stuff, but no, I had to tap through a lot of dialogue. It seems like if you didn't, if they let you skip the tutorials and then people did, they would get to the other end of it. Yeah. I would actually recommend watching our video. Yeah, it starts a little weird because you do go through all the systems really quickly, but honestly, I kind of got a good sense of what the game was doing, and then when you started playing it, I was like, oh, okay, I didn't exactly remember what every single thing did, but I knew how it all kind of worked together. I think it would be easier to grasp if you watched or listen to someone who knew, Like if you watched the video and just saw me playing it and describing things, rather than like just going through the text tutorial, which is it's a lot to dese Yeah, it's it's It's cool though, I like it. I'll probably play some more of it. I like when snow gets wacky. It super wacky. Can get super wacky when they feel like it. I mean, it's the very Japanese. The very first thing that happens is you go to train your first horse and it's just sitting there on the track and you tap move a few times, and then it bucks you off and kicks you in the stomach and you die because you get trampled by a bunch of other horses. Okay, and so you die immediately a horse? Are you a horse racing enthusiast ghost? I mean, an angel does visit you in the afterlife, bring you back to life so you can get better at solitaire? Are you saying? Are you saying in heaven everyone is playing solitaire and watching horse racing. I guess, so, okay, start my life. Man, I've been in heaven all along. It's fucking weird. But I mean for the price too, I'd say check it out. Yeah, Uh, it's something. It's also technically not solitaire. It's like a sort of slimmed down you're really just snicking colors or suits or other things. It's just ace to two to three to two, three, four, You know, yeah it's it's yeah, some variant of Speed Solitaire. Yeah, yeah, interesting, Yeah, all right, maybe it's a firm maybe. All right, Drew, got anything else besides overwatched real quick before we break here. I played Twilight Struggle with Austin Walker. That's awesome. Yes, I hear good things about that. Yeah, that's fun. It's also another game, uh, with a lot of systems going on. Really good tutorial. But maybe I was gonna suggest watch me and Austin's video if you want to learn strategy. But don't do that because I'm pretty sure we're not doing the right thing. But to get it, to get an understanding of how it all works. That game is great. It's like fifteen bucks on Team Wow. That's got online play. Yes, it's head to head. Yes, I haven't tried it, but it's like they're on the men, like cold cold Cold War risk? Right? Yes, really wouldn't the pitch? I keep hearing? And it's one on one. Yeah, you can play against the AI, but it isn't one on one goal excellent. All right, Well I'm sorry you have played a little Fantasy Start Online two on the PlayStation four. It's out it's out on the PS four now in English. I did know, of course, okay, I did. I did randomly happen to see that your most recent trophy was all Japanese. I threw and saw that it was facing Fantasy Star or a Hamster game started. I started to ask, and I was like, you knowe, nope, I don't need to know. They have They've added episode four to that game. Episode is one through three kind of all took place in the same environment and all this other stuff. But now when you log in, it asks you if you want to do one through three or four and four as is like a different area and also other stuff. I want to say, four as you going to Old Earth and fighting in Japan or something from a trailer I saw a while ago. I think that's this patch, but I don't know that. I had never thought that game controlled especially well with a controller when you're using a range character, so it's kind of shooting is all kind of based on hitting critical spots, right, yeah. So yeah, and the number of actions on your palette are such that, like the triggers are not always going to be the thing you use, so you have to take your thumb off the right stick to shoot some of your heavier shots, and it's not a great way to play it. If you can use a mouse keyboard on I think you can, because the PS four keeps like he keeps having loading screen tips involving the keyboard and saying like hit all f to sit down in the lobby, you know, or whatever it. I mean, it's in Japanese. But uh, but I thought like, man, I've got to relatively high level character. I wonder if I log in, I'll just get a bunch of trophies. It turns out no, so but I did go fight a boss to get one, and there's a bunch of annivers item that fucking games nonsense. But the English patch still works if you're playing on PC. So that's that's still the right way to play. It always been on PSFO. I thought it was just on Vida. It was just on Vida, and then PS four just came out, just came out. Then can you just go get that? It's free to play? Right, Yeah, so so you can just go. You don't even need it. I guess you just need a Japanese account. You create your Japanese account and then but you don't download it from the Japanese store, and then you make your Japanese account primary on that PS four and then you log into your US account or just use the Japanese one if you don't care. But if you want all your trophies on one account, then I logged into the other one, which then makes it hard because then you can't if you wanted to ever spend money on it, you would be playing on an account that can't access the store. So you might be able to buy all that stuff on the PC and then it would still integrate in anyway. Yes, you you it's it's easy to play it and does not cost and he money for you to do that. Should they should they just localize it. I seem like they're so close at this point. I know, I know it's not trivial, Like no, I I think they missed their window. You know, I said it before, but I think that like the time for PSO two has passed. Yeah, and it's you know, it was well made for what it was, and I still I still enjoy it and there's cool stuff about it. But I think that it's sort of happened, and I think that a lot of the players that wanted to play it are now just like if they're in in English speaking territory and they want to play it, they could either play the like behind the Times, like Southeast Asia version which has an English translation. There's apparently quite bad. An official English translation. It's already been done. Apparently it's quite bad easy I've not seen it. But it also it's like it's apparently not in sync with the Japanese servers, which there are fan made English patches for that version of the game that you could then just kind of install through the PSO two tweaker and also stuff, and you know, they'll walk you through all the cap shows that you have to enter herera Ghana into your into a window and don't play PSO two instead plays two es for Android and iOS. Okay, I installed Blue Stacks on my PC, which is an Android emulator, thinking I want to see what the PSO two mobile game looks like. No, I don't know. I tapped on the screen to kill some rappies. But then now I got through the tutorial and got back to the main menu, and I have no idea how to actually get into anything. Can you feed your mag on the go? I? Oh no, but it supposedly that has an English patch, but I couldn't get that working. Wow, patching an emulated Android game? Yeah right, fan made English patches for enable enabled notifications to receive messages from your mag Yeah, yo, man, you better feed me your mag can tell you win. It's hungry. I downloaded the uncharted game Fawn Mobiles since we're talking about that. Yeah, apparently, I don't know. It seems like a like a Match three or something. No, it's no, it's like a Larcraft go knockoff. Oh, it's like board gamey does it tie back in? Do you get relics that you then use for the the regular games? They just have a fat list of all the things you get in the real game. Yes. I think it's all multiplayer. I can check if you actually care. Also, the Nathan Drake is so weirdly stylized in this game. His neck is about again just the draft stuff is into somewhere. Yeah. Yeah, there's a there's a bunch of outfit like costume options for multiplayer, uh, and some weapons, skins and stuff. It's it's whatever. I don't know. The puzzle game seems okay but not amazing. Also, it appears to have signed me out of the PlayStation Network since I last used it, so never mind. Then, all right, I guess that's the games we've been playing. Let's anybody else has anything super pressing. We should take a break, can do. Let's take a break, and we're back. Time for the news. That's that. Oh I'm sorry, did you say the news? I did? There? It is? Oh yeah, basking Walter Cronkite to chime in here with these hot hot headlines. I'med Bradley. Yep, Bradley was cool. Glasses you can take off. We're gonna be on video. Oh that's true. Yeah, I guess that's grave news. That's when a game gets to late. Yes, roll roll up your sleeves and Dromeda, roll up your sleeves kind of like, loosen your tie a little bit and take your glasses off. Tithing to get real America. Turn this chair around, sit on the back of it. That doesn't happen, the cooler news would. All right, well let's see if this news is cool enough for you. Last week we had a new call of duty. This week we have a new battlefield. It's called Battlefield one. Finally, one battlefield to unite us all one war. Obviously one console, the Xbox One. Yes, there's so many different ways you could go with It's called battlefield Numeral one. Uh huh. It is said in World War One, the Great War. It's being it's it's great. It's being co marketed by the Xbox One. H huh. But we'll be coming to multiple play. I actually like this name. Ya. It could only be better if they called it battlefield Great. Yep would be that would be all right, the Great Battlefield. Yeah, that would be okay, Drew, what's your read on this? This is a very let's say, cartoonish depiction of World War One. I mean there's dub step in the trailer. Yeah. That song was also used in in a movie trailer for g I Joe. The specific white stripe socks of that song. Yeah, I think I think there's a really big opportunity for them to change up the way that battlefield feels. Oh, I don't know about that. I think oh yeah, no, no, yeah, you're yea, yeah, I don't think there's a possibility. Yeah, you're absolutely right that there's an opportunity. But I mean in terms of what they will do, I don't think they don't think like World War One, it's very different exactly beyond just like the trenches, right, like everyone knows that, but like this is when people were figuring out modern warfare. Yeah, like air combat wasn't really effective. Yeah, like so later or later, Yeah, I was, I was reading bombing. They figured out bombing from planes, they figured out tanks, like like I was, I was reading a discussion of this announcement trailer and like I didn't verify this, but I saw it said in the discussion that the majority of the tank fatalities in World War One were from like user error, effectively from tank malfunctions, like tanks killing their own operators. Yeah, stuff, because because they were so all that stuff was so new, you know, right, Like it seems like a weird time to go back to because like World War Two was where the industrialized warfare like really happened. And if you look at how he is framing it, they're they're really calling there. I think the language they're using is like this is the dawn of modern warfare, which is like, yeah, but are you just saying this is yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, are you saying it's just a skin on your rusting? That's what I'm And it sounds like that. The classes in the game are similar to how they've always been, but then there are horses, you know, so it's like, which are motorcycles? Right exactly? Yeah, slower motorcycles. Yeah, with the DLC armor, hopefully, how do you repair the horse? You get out there and you take your wrench and no, it's like Fable the Journey if you have connected side of it. When you're building your your custom class, you can swap out grenades for carrots and problem solved. Okay, Yeah, I would like them to go real weird with this. Yeah, but I don't think they will. I think it. I think the trailer looked well. I think what they're saying sounds all right, and I think it's good of them to do something different. I didn't think they would do it. I honestly thought that for sure they were gonna go future. But then the more I thought about it in the wake of this announcement, I was like, oh, you know what, they're also putting out Titan Fall two. Yeah, so ea has the future covered with certainly is a differentiator. Yeah, they wouldn't need to do twenty one forty three, uh, you know, because that would that be just more Max more Titans t mode, So it makes sense for them to have like it, like the existence of something like titan Fall and even Star Wars battle Fronts. It was a certain extent probably gives them a little extra leeway to try something out, and they need to try something out everyone asked you. Yeah, I'll definitely salute them for doing the non obvious. Yeah, different, But yeah, I just wonder how different will this game feel and will that matter in the grand scheme of things. The other thing I learned is that apparently the rest of the world has like a much more Apparently Europe feels very differently about World War One than we do here, Whereas it's it's not like, I mean, this is maybe you know, my World War One is not really taught heavily in school, even in Europe. In Europe, I'm not, I'm saying it is, Oh yeah, And I'm saying like, like I saw people that were in Europe and different parts of the world going, fuck this, what the fuck are they doing even depicting this war? Oh my god? Is it because of like the weapons are used, Because specifically it was it was the brutality and remembrance and also stuff totally. Yeah, No, but like the sheer, the sheer scale of the KA that was the pretty good war. I mean they just sat around drinking their tents all the time. I saw the documentary, Like you should, you should look up some of the figures on the casualties, like in terms of you would have multiple tens of thousands of people dying a day, like you're talking, and you're talking about I think is specifically like with England and France, like like things that destroyed a generation, like like literally a generation of young men just eradicated, you know, like like like it's it's almost interesting that we've got enough time and distance from that thing now that we can depict it in this like cartoonish fashion. That's that's another part of why I'm afraid of this, Yeah, because every era of war has been depicted in right, You're right, yeah. I feel like the World War one and two in particular are just featured like killing and brutality on a scale that has never been seen before since you know. I mean, obviously there are other really horrific wars otter literally any war is filled with like absolutely yeah, But I'm all I'm saying is that like when I think about World War One, I think about it's the war before the war that everyone knows about, because World War Two was much more heavily taught when I when I was in school. Oh yeah, Like it was like I learned a lot of nuts and bolts about World War Two along the way, whereas World War One was like is the thing that led to World War Two? But it just seems like other parts of the world have a very different approach than than the US has, at least through the kind of the formal schooling. Yeah, you know, like especially in Europe, those suit wars are they practically still exist in living memory, you know, like there are certainly people around who very tangibly feel the effects that are trickled down from those events, but the case with two even more so, Like yeah, yeah, I don't know, Yeah, I mean, it depends on the person. All this other situation is all I'm saying is that I saw people angry about this, that that EA would would dare to depict World War One because of that sort of stuff, and that that I was taken aback by that because like it's just like, sorry, say, world War one not super on my radar, not something I don't think they even covered it in school. Yeah it was you know, oh the Kaiser Okay that was and literally like that was the one with the pointy helmets. Yeah, yes, yeah, which is not a great band, but you know they did their part. Uh. I also get a kick out of seeing a lot of say Europeans misconceptions about American school systems, when what subjects are emphasized and which one should be and stuff like that. It's like, yeah, and even the quality of education from school to school, you know, like there's like there's there you can't make any assumptions there about what people have been have been educated on. Yeah, but yeah, I was I did not expect that to be the thing. I expected it to be more like, oh, they're gonna have to educate people about why World War One was different from World War Two because no one's gonna know. It's like, oh, apparently, like that's maybe just an American perspective on things. Yeah, I mean it's it's a much grayer area like World War Two for Americans very easy too, good guys, bad guys, right, yeah, world War one's a little yeah, yeah, when you try a good guys, bad guys, world War One and especially if you're trying to sell it in this territory and here's your Harlem hell Fighters pack, and you know, is this game just going to be about the Americans being the best part of World War One? Was that actually factually accurate? Like? What story will they tell? They came in really late? Yeah, just like World War Two? Yeah? Uh so, yeah, what story gets told in this game? Just you will probably matter to a lot of people. Pony up for the two hundred and twenty dollars ultimate addition of this thing, if you want to get the whole story. No, that's okay, they're going hard on pre orders, comes right, Yeah, your own Mustard gas. Oh jeez, here you go. H Yeah, that's uh yeah, I think that could be a cool game. Yeah, I hope. But at the same time, like I think making a game that is faithful to that conflict while making it a good fun shooter seems hard. Hard, but not impossible. Yeah, I bet considering a battlefield is it's going to focus on being a big fun shooter. That's I don't think it's not gonna teach us a lot of this war. Then at that point, like why do it? That's it's a new weapons. That's where the point it's it's it's not new cool weapons, it's old, broken weapons. Uh. That I mean the idea of like having the good gameplay systems of battlefield with like horses and a different era and different weapons, and you know, I mean, that's that's why. But that's that's the thing like if you you know, if you think about weapons, like they've been somewhat faithful to weapons in the eras that they've chosen to tell from. Uh you go back past World War two. You know, even a lot of the guns in World War Two not that fun to shoot. Uh, So you go back even further than that, Like it just the actual like the idea of I'm on a horse shooting a gun is something you probably would have never done back then because the guns were fucking garbage, and you would do it and maybe I'm sure someone tried it and maybe they got lucky once, but they probably just got dead. Uh And and so yeah, I just think that that's that's the stuff where it's like Okay, I mean, yeah, sure, you know, use a new setting and all other stuff, but like if you're just gonna like play ground it up and just make it like this, fun shooter. They will why, Yeah, I'm kind of World War One with you. That's why I don't change anything. Then it feels even more exploitative. Yeah, yes, yeah, that's why I said on UPF I wish they had just gone back to World War Two again. I feel like it's it's been long enough that that would be acceptable, and and you get the setting that is more compatible with that, that kind of just ridiculous battlefield hygiene, planes and aircraft carriers. I we'll see, you know. Yeah. I thought that what they showed look good, and I like that they're trying something new, So I'm I'm excited. I've definitely am excited to see what they're doing with it. I'm gonna write it off, certainly, but no, but I think they've got a lot of interesting challenges and I'm I'd like to see them tackle them, you know, like like in a way that like if they just went back to World War Two, those problems are solved, those questions are answered, Like that's not interesting, It's it's different. I'm really really interested to see how a big budget World War One game turns out, because we haven't really had one of those. Besides Darkest of days yea, the biggest of budgets, the darkest of days. Yeah. And then I don't I don't know, like the that that an Infinite Warfare seemed to be going in like different directions with similar goals. Also, I'm really interested to see how both of them. Yeah, it's nice going. It's nice to see how differentiated they are at this point. Also, like because apparently like shooters can't come out without having some kind of rival scenario drop up, like it's one of the other. There's there's some crazy like like like dislike war on YouTube taking place between this and Infinite Warfare. Yeah. I think Hershberg had to kind of address the dislikes on their YouTube trailer in an investor call, which seems like the dumbest, like he should have just actually said, you know. His quote was like, well, you gotta love gamers passion, when it should have been it's fucking I don't know if you like. Maybe he doesn't know, but it's like, I don't know if you know this, but likes and dislikes on YouTube actually don't fucking mean anything. Uh, it's views, so deal with it. Yeah. Uh, yeah. It was kind of a throwback to when I was watching the Twitch premier of the trailer the Battlefield one. I just saw all that, like the twitch chats kind of rip cud rip cut, rest in peace, cut fuck you cut man. This is back to like who was it Modern Worker three? In Battlefield three? That felt like the fever pitch of Call of Battle and then like, you know, the certain factions in EA try to get that going Metal of Honor? Oh yeah, you know what was it above the call? Above the call? Yeah, check out these beards. Wow, they've really been at that for a while then, haven't Yeah, I mean or whatever. They had to, you know, they they had to differentiate themselves from the prominent like number one game in the category. And I don't know if they have they ever outsold called the Duty. I don't know if they know certainly not Medal of Honor. That's fuck man, what a misgui the licensed gun? Yeah? What a single player? Right? Yeah, that was the word they mentioned some campaign stuff. Could you just straight up play as al Qaeda and Medal of Honor? And that turned into a huge thing and like mainstream Fox News and everything like and they had to change it at the end. I think I think you're straight up well I think they did change. I think it was the Taliban at some point it was like that's right, you're gonna plays the op four, right, okay, and didn't necessarily address it. I want, I want to say that was the thing they did. Didn't go the America's Army rape right, you are always America. Yeah, everything. They are always the trists. It's like real life, they are always the terrorists. Right, that's that's yes, Jeff, God damn it. Uh yeah, on a game announcing tear in the last week. Yeah, not only did Battlefield one come to light, but they're making another Star Wars game. Oh right, yeah with respond Yeah yeah, even though third person action, yeah, adventure so h yeah. So Stig gosh his last names sis. Right. Yeah, this this article is just yes, stick Asmison. It's just labeled a letter from Stig. Uh yeah, he he's he's directing it. He he've got a War three fame. Yeah. I didn't even realize he had gone to respond they said that. Yeah. Like there's multiple weird angles about this, Like, okay, respond went from like publicly stating they were kind of a lean team that sort of Fall one scraped together the first Titan Fall and like focused on what was important about it to the exclusion of, like, you know, a campaign and other stuff like now tight Respond is now a two game studio. Like you say, they are hiring aggressively to staff up for the second game, as they were making Titan Fall two as well. But if they're in the hiring staffing up phase, then one would presume that this is something that they you know, I mean, EA has the game coming out of it was a vote voting votive. Which which game are we talking about? Yeah, that's the it's the game that viscrole Amy Hinnig game. Yeah, but it's like she is, I think right, and it's it's I think Hinnig and Jade Raymond working on that game story stuff for the Visceral game. Yeah. I thought I thought h was a Visceral Motive. I want, I thought that motive was just like a story studio and they were just crafting that part of the game. Maybe maybe so, but I don't know the point. The point is there. The upshot is that EA has two third person Star Wars action games in development at the same time right now. Cool. There are not There are not that many third person action games these days anymore. I guess not when when the tier of games got eradicated, that game, that genre went with it. So I guess that stuff kind of fell away as like like that's based rain, it's course, and like Specop's the line came out and did its thing, and like there hasn't been a ton of stuff since then. It's like the stuff that does exist ends up being like Gears, which is it is third person, but they are making a first person shooter style game around those mechanics. Like it since we got uncharted some tomb Rators, well that's the thing. All the well tomb Rators, the second tum Rator did some interesting stuff, but generally like very familiar and like well worn. Yeah they're locked into that. Yeah, but then you get into the character action end of things, the more kind of tentlem my cry and combo focused type stuff. You know. I guess I guess when you put it that way, like they don't say what kind of third person action game it is, like Force Unleash three. I mean, not like you joke, but like totally one of these branding one of these could be like a Force Unleashed style like Force Placed style. Yeah, I'm totally fine with that, and another one. One's exactly okay, you are learning this, you know how, you're thinking bad form, and then you do a ton of combos, you match the X button until everyone is dead. I guess yeah. I mean, you know, all we really know about either game is that it's a third person in Star Wars action game. But you're right, they could. They could be very different. You could make a character action game with that. I'm trooper that has the whip around things, everyone's favorite animated gift machine. Yes, that's kind of it on this story. And also, if they're staffing up, this game is not soon. Whereas you figured that the Visceral game, they've been on it for a while, Like that's is that out this year? They haven't said. You could totally see that being You figure if battle Front was last year, then they need something for this year, right to keep their Star Wars fucking machine rolling. I want a Star Wars movie every year, Like I could say, I want to is this Rouge one? I don't know if it's related to Rogue one or not. They haven't said that's the thing, like I want to say. They announced the Amy Hinting game at the same time they announced battle Front right, thank you, right, because like it was, it was part of them saying they got Star Wars, they got and then this announcement seems like it could be pretty early, but they wanted to tie into fucking Star Wars marketing hype with early may ship. Sure. Sure, or you know, maybe they just thought the existence of this thing was going to leak and they were like, let's just get out there and announce it and start hiring people. Yeah. I mean if they need to hire people, they need to do something. Yeah. And especially since mass Efact has gotten pushed into next year. Now you could totally see the visceral Star Wars game. Maybe who's making that game? What's that mass Effect? It's like some it's still byoware is it still Edmonton or is there yeah? There, yeah, totally Yeah. Old Republic is still coming out of Austin. That's still by Aware. I want to say, bywere Montreal is is the core of the new mass You might be right? I think is right. I don't know. They came out, they made a big deal out of out of saying like here are the creative leads on the new mass Effect. I want to say, if they were in Montreal, Eric Pope. Yes, yes, secretly been working behind the scenes from Ubisoft. He's working on that's how Yeah, he's just getting his car registered, making the new mass effect. I just kind of I'm kind of excited to see a bunch of new Star Wars games coming out. Yeah, like it's been a while since there was you know, like Lucas Arts was always so like hot and cold with that stuff. You know, it's like they're going hard on games and then they're pulling back on games, you know, like it just constantly. I found my invite to see Star Wars thirteen thirteen eighty three recently and I was holding it over the weekend. So that looks so good. Yeah, that was a cool fucking demo. That was crazy at the time. I wonder I actually kind of wonder how it looks now now in light of Yeah, we actually didn't even mention the fact that Uncharted four is like fucking the most amazing looking game I have ever seen, like regardless of platforms. Unified too, yeah, I mean, you know, the frame rate is what it is. Yeah. Uh Like obviously if you put the same game on a PC, it would look better, But what if you put it on a more powerful PlayStation four. I would like to see that, Okay, I would be really curious to see what that looks like. You know, I glanced at the Digital Foundry breakdown a little bit, so like, of course they were harping on like here's the temporal anti aliasing they're using or whatever, but like, sure enough, like it is the sharpest looking game I have ever seen on a TV. Like it's like, yeah, it looks parts of it look like CG. Like it's yeah, it's fucking crazy. How good that game looks? Why did I bring that up there? I wonder that was shown pre PS four? Yeah there was a real Engine three even. I think that was the same E three where they showed watch Dogs and everyone's like, oh, that's obviously okay, this is the first next end games. Ye little did we know? But yeah, actually, like put what Watchdogs turned out to be next to Uncharted four, and like, oh yeah, when you see what a Charted four looks like, it almost seems crazy that they are rushing out on a better version of the PS four because it's like, wow, this thing is. But also maybe that's it. Maybe yeah, maybe they were wrapping up on Charted four and said here's our tech report for you. Guys. We're done this as much as we can do. You can, you can find the libraries. We'll squeeze another three percent out of it here and there. But come on, you may you may well be right. But that game has cross fades, does it? Yeah? Video cross fades, which is real tough to do in games. I would love to know how they do it from scene to scene, from scene to scene. Interesting. So like you think about you have to render one scene and then another and then fade, like render both of them at the same time during the fade. Yeah, I don't know how that maybe the maybe it's fading into a video that was I was just gonna say, I suspect they were using some prerecorded video and there to hide because there are no load times once you get in the game. Yes, just go and go. But the fact that the movies are indistinguishable from the game like says a lot. Like fucking it's a really really good looking game, all right. A couple more minor stories here. We talked a lot about the Nintendo announcements last week about n X coming out next year and how they are mostly pulling out of E three this year. Remember how they said Zelda was the only game they were bringing to E three, Yes, they meant it. They're not They are not doing a Nintendo direct, they were not doing any kind of press conference equivalent. They will just be streaming that Zelda game for a day and that's it. Now. They will be going at the nine am Tuesday morning slot that they always have occupied, even even when they were doing a stage show, right for that that is when they will start streaming, right Yeah, like they're they're still in that time slot. But yeah, they're actually only bringing Zelda teeth. So I guess this basically dashes any hopes that they were even gonna announce any other games at E three, Right yeah, I mean where would they do it if I'm not going to have the kind of set out of the game. But I wonder, like they still have the new Pokemon stuff coming, so like I wonder if that just doesn't show up, what the deal is with that. I don't know, Yeah, well that be out and that won't be out by then. No, they just know anyway. But I think that's it in terms of like announced products that they have, right Yeah, I mean that's kind of cool though in a way, because that is the game that people are most looking forward to. So if we just get a shitload of information and footage from that game, like, that's cool, Yes, But also I don't want a shitload of information on the new Zelda. I want a five minute breakdown of like here's what it means that there's an open world in this game, and here's a type video that shows you that you're not gonna watch hours of Yah, I'm gonna play that game. Yeah, yeah, like I don't. I'm not gonna watch that, you know. That's that's you know. I would I would like to see thirty minutes or an hour of it. Yeah I am. I am intensely curious about what I would. I would watch it. I don't need to sure, I don't need to see anything else. We're all gonna play, all right. I would like to play the new Legends of Zel the game. Yeah, we're all we're all gonna PLA n X. But I'm still super curious. Yeah, just yes, you know, what's what's new about it? Yes? If nothing else, I would like to manage my expectations. Sure, yeah, I mean, if they if they roll it out and it just looks like everything else or but it's like, oh, now you walk longer between dungeons, right, cool. Right, we were talking about this the other day, like, you know, they they've they've been saying how much they're going to change things up and this is going to be a new approach for the series and stuff. But I feel like they kind of also said that about Scafford story. Yeah. Yeah, a lot of those same people. Uh, but we shall see. Still very much looking forward to seeing more of that. Uh. Person to five got a date in pan it is September fifteenth, Alright, that'll make us it's link go up with the date, yep, yep, whatever, Go on a second. Yes, uh, you have seen a lot of Personafford being played. Yes, they I believe they said in the past that they were kind of localizing alongside development, so there's a possibility that the weight between versions is not huge. But they have not said anything about us dates. Oh right, yes, this is only the Japanese release date. Like they're being a weight at all. Seems like slightly crazy, h But it's not like anyone else is doing anything like that. You know, they're not in some competitive race to get out or if anything other game other RPGs should be worried about when they announced their ship. Yeah, I guess so, because that's a good looking trailer. Yeah did you I didn't see the whole thing. I just saw like a bunch of gifts floating around like it's it's it's various stylish with the the menu stuff and like just kind of the motion graphics that happened around battles. Yeah, pretty impressive spec Yeah a little bit. Okay, great, I need to look at this, Like the battle results display is really something. Yeah, it's some style to that thing. I mean, if if you thought like all the menus and all the other stuff around Persona four looked cool like this is, or if you thought like the UI and Catherine was good like that, you can tell that this came from like that crew cool, but like three or four steps past it, it's crazy wow, Like it's it's really neat God Katherine, holy shit. Yeah right, like the game that got them prepped to make another game on that platform then they never made this is this game is coming out on PS three. Man, it's when you put that in like that's it literally goes Persona four, Katherine, Persona five. Right, Yeah, man, they have not had a prolific output for a while. All right, well, that game's coming out soon. I guess the only other story is this the last one? This is yes, this is the last one. Microsoft announced today that like they're actually getting some of this Windows ten gaming stuff done kind of faster than I expected they would step, you know. They they they're on this Universal Windows Platform thing now, which is allowing them to do games across Xbox and Windows ten, and those PC games have not been great. Yeah, well it's not necessarily that the game's just run. I guess I should say they're requiring people that want to put games on both to do it this way. The UWP stuff is it's the Windows to anything that comes out of the Windows ten store, and then those apps, some of those apps, the lighter ones probably not games, uh directly anyway, could run then on an Xbox one as well, like Excel. Yeah. Yeah, connect, we connect and able to sell business. But we've been waiting for anyway. Yeah. So they've they've got v Sinc supporting the now. Yes, so they've they've added v Sinc. Uh Yeah, I think they've got g Sinc And free. So they got v g Sinc And free sync. Finally Xbox equals Sigma Open parenthesy. Yeah, you're able to unlock the frame right now. The games were capped previously. Uh, that's that's it for now. But like that, that's what I guess that capability expected. But the games themselves will still have to be patched to take advantage of it, so there's still they're still work this. Yeah, so they're they're getting there. Yeah, uh yeah, you know hopefully that stuff. They don't mention anything about overlays because that was also missing. Oh right, and then SLI support didn't work. Yeah, that stuff's coming together, but not as quickly as some people would like. I'm sure sounds like that new FORTSA was it forts to six apex or something yet Motor Sports six apex. That thing sounds like they did a pretty good job with that. Uh yeah, I guess I haven't seen it since the showcase event we downloaded it. That's been in it's in open beta, right, good job at what like? It just sounds like a good PC version. Well in contrast like Quantum Break in uh you know, well right, okay, some of the uwps a PC version of a game on Xbox. Like if you're taking it against other driving games. It doesn't support wheels. Like, there's a lot of okay you on the graphics side, and I saw people saying that it runs well, and uh yeah, I don't know. Their PC initiative continues to be pretty weird. Yeah, and that's kind of it. It is a pretty dry update. Hey, your frame rate is unlocked now if you're playing stuff onto UWP. All right, let's move into emails. Yeah, thereas emails. Emails it is. Dan didn't have his headphones on. Put them on for the music. I wanted to hear it. Do you want to hear it again? Yeah? Do it emails man, that's good, just loop it for the rest of the show. I like that. Let's maybe not to that bomb Castle job bomb dot com email address. Yeah, first email comes in from Giovanni and yeah that seems fun. Need need to remote kill switch for that. Oh I can't. No, nope, I actually kind of into this. Giovanni in Cologne, Germany writes in emails emails BombCast John vana COM's email dress. That's true. I can confirm these emails were written through that address. He says, we've been speaking about the NX for so long, but as with the Revolution a decade ago, the NX is just a code name and snow and and Nintendo excuse me, is going to name it something entirely different. What do you think they will end up naming it? Or do you perhaps think that they might actually end up keeping the NX name we've already grown to call it will not be NX. Yeah, probably it's the Nintendo Extreme. Man, that would be pretty good. Remember what the rumor that the WE use going to be called the Nintendo Nintendo I was way into that. I think that would be a solid name here. Uh. Also the Dolphin. I just I can't imagine that ever happening, But that is a really revolution. I mean they I think they flat out said they're done with the WE name, right, did they? I swear they they at least acknowledge that naming that WE you as such, probably didn't help them. Just go all the way and call it sports. Yeah, play after after WE, like anything is possible, because holy shit, do you remember the name? The morning that that name came out? I remember waking up to that news and being like what, I distinctively remember being in the office game spot the morning that the WE name came out and just go into like fucking what like not since Dreamcast, yeah, has such an ass nine sounding console, But the first one wound up working like people were Okay, that's what it is. It's called the Weed. Cared for three weeks and then it was done. Yeah, but then the We you never stopped being stupid like that night. Yes, the we just became the Weed. That's what it is. That thing's called the We We You to this day I hear and I'm like that that's fucking dumb. But like I think when I think about the name, I think about it. It's dumb in a business sense because it doesn't differentiate right, like the actual sound of it. Who cares? It's Yes, if you analyze it, it's dumb. But if you analyze most like Dreamcast is dumb and no one cares about that anymore. Dreamcast is an awesome name. It was. I remember when that got announced. He was like, man, fuck that, what are they doing? But it's like a dream catcher. That thing's doomed. It turned out we were right about the doom thing, But I don't think it failed because of its name though the names. Yeah, Nintendo really has been all over the place when they name their consoles. Yeah, the new Nintendo three d X okay, yes, okay, all right, Ultra sixty four, all right, that'd be good. That's a that's a pretty good name. First game, Mario one twenty eight, just call the game that. Just get it over with, yes and just say no, this was it all along. I saw your tweet about Battlefield one and the world where every Xbox one game just ends in a one yeah sixty four style. That would have been cool. That made me sad because I would have been Gears of four one. Yeah, yeah, Blood Wake one, uh Cocato Chojin one, Fusion Frenzy one. You should play some uh Man Act one. Okay, all right, sure, yeah, alright, that's the next number. Yeah, full full circle. Uh Andre writes in with a fun email. I like fun. I'm not sure how we're gonna handle this. We'll figure this out. I like fun. A while back, someone emailed the guys on the Beast Cast with a game of League of Legends Champion or g I Joe. To be a similar end, I'd like to see who on the Bomb Cast, with the obvious exception of Brad is the true Doda master with a game of Dota two Hero or American Gladiator. Oh okay, let's do this. Uh, there are ten questions here? Should I? Dan seems excited? Dan, I've watched the old American Gladiators. I even watched both seasons of the new one. Alright, so if you want to talk about Wolf and Gina krot I went stuff, I can do that. Okay, let's do it. You're in the hot seat. Okay, I don't know anything about Dota. Okay, Tusk that's that's that's Fleetwood Mac Okay, Jim and I Americans Titan Gladiator, Saber. Oh, I'm gonna say that's Doda, but I'm not positive. Okay, crap, I'm gonna have to keep all your answers in my head. Razor, that's I think that's Doda. That's Doda. Dazzle. That was a gladiator, siren Gladiator. That was the death one when instead of the horn they had a tapper. Yeah, Sven, that's gotta okay. Storm that's a gladiator. Well, no, no, Storm, because I can picture all the other ones in my head. Man, I'm talking about like Golden Nitro and stuff. But that's impressive. You know, you're gladiators. Storm, is probably a gladiator. Are you committing to this? Yes? I need your final answer, yes, okay, last one, Viper mm hmm, waiting for Larry Zanka. It's definitely Adam. That's definitely a Dota hero. Yeah, Malibu, Oh yeah, Malibo was great. Uh. Viper Viper, I'm gonna say that's a gladiator truck question. Viper is both okay, all right, all right, let's see. I'm trying. I'm trying to remember what which one? You've got almost all of them? Okay, you guys missed like two or three? Well, were we right on? Razor is Razor? Razor is doughta hero? Yeah, okay, yeah, because they wouldn't have named they wouldn't have named a gladiator exact same era as Razormost. Yeah. Oh, it was the exact logic I used to get to that answer. Also, by the way, oh gosh, I can't remember which one you got wrong. Storm is a gladiator okay, yeah, because my thought process on that was Gladiators would be out of touch enough to name a character Storm, but like Doda, they would know that there's an X man named Storm, but Gladiators it is probably just something fucking guy and a you know La studio. Yeah, I felt really concerned about copyright infringement when its yea, yeah, definitely, yeah, uh yeah you got. I want to say, you maybe got Dazzle wrong and you said gladiator. That's that's that's a doda. He says his name. Yes, okay, Dazzle, Okay, that was right on that one. Uh. I can't remember what you said for Siren. Syreen is definitely a gladiator. He's pretty good. Okay, we got at seven. I'm sad I missed one. Yeah, it's not bad. Did you ever did you ever go see the tour? No and they did the live stuff? Yeah, I went. I went to that when I was like thirteen. I just wanted to fire the gun. Yes, yeah, I just I just wanted to ide. I remade the entire assault course in my basement as a kid. I used a dartboard for the thing above, Like I would have my friends stand there with one of my NERF guns that had like a rotating barrel thing. Yeah, stand underneath the dart board. I had all the stations, the one up front with the fake like phone grenades and you had some phone balls. I had the nerve bow and arrow thing that you could try to shoot the I had a pitch back. You know, there's things you would throw a baseball at. And I never use it for actual sports stuff. I just use it as a net for my assault course in my basement. Cool. So yeah, remade the whole damn thing. That was definitely the best basement event. The wall was the scariest event because you get like ten seconds in your climbing. It's like, all right, this is hard enough. I'm climbing a giant rock wall, but then a horn goes off and some giant dudes just rushing up way faster than you to yank you off a wall. Yeah, that's that shows so good. They don't do a lot of basements out here. Nope, it's hard to find a basement man in the earthquake country. I assume this downs well, right, I assume do they have it in the Midwest because of tornadoes? Maybe it's okay because that's because Gornado country there's kind of no need for basements. But unless you need to put a video game website somewhere, yeah you should. If you have the option to have a basement, you should. Oh it's great. Yeah, basement. I was like, you can't stand up in it, but there is an addict. Yeah. You use basement like twice a year for tornado warnings, but then the rest of the time it's fun cool step down there and storage. It's just canned food. It's just a slightly clammy place with a cement floor. Noah, you can finish it. No, I don't carpet down there. They right toilet down there. Yeah, you're right. Uh, let's see. Next email comes in from where's this Guy's name? Greg and Taunton, Massachusetts, writes in about the Jaguar in the May third BombCast. While discussing fan reactions to the death of their systems, Jeff remarked that nobody owned a Jaguar exclusively prepared to have your preconceptions challenge because I was such an owner. I owned the Jaguar exclusively from nineteen ninety three to ninety eight, during which time I amassed a collection of almost all of the games available for the system until until I finally broke down and bought it into sixty four. Those those games got probably got real cheap at some point. Yeah. I traded it in the N sixty four eventually, but I still have two Jaguars four controllers and all of the games I collected over that five years. I enjoyed most of the games immensely, in addition to the usual love for Alien versus Predator. It had the best version of Wolfenstein three D. Give us a good I mean, it was a great console version of wolf I assume it was just wolf and Stein three D pretty much. They Yes, there's some stuff, but yes, I have fond memories of playing Doom and Deathmatch and Troy Aikman football with my father. This may be adventurous to Drew. There was a decent F one racing game that was always a bit difficult for me to get into. Also, Fight, I wish Jason is here to hear this, but Fight for Life also a Fight for Life is at least as good as the original Virtual Fighter. Just putting that out there, well, we'll see, yeah, I mean, science will have to convene on that. Maybe maybe back to back on those to clear that up. Double Dragon five, however, is probably the worst fighting game in the history of games. It's hot, It is not even hot. Garbage can say it's hot garbage, but that's overused doing a lot of cases where the garbage is not even hot. He even mentions he would like to see those games put through the process. So it's hot, garbage player applied some science too. I mean, hey, it's hot, man, smell that takes hot? Do you have to take it outside or burn it? Yeah? Yeah, okay, all right, microwabit m He goes on top. Yeah, we did. We We ranked ranked some fighting games over the weekend that went up on the size. You see a couple more. Continue to add games to the list. Yes, we're up to eight teams that have been ranked. Continued building the list. What's the number one the fighting games? I don't know. If I want to spoil it for people, okay, should watch, but I watch the ranking of fighters. It's all. It's all a provisional number one until the full list gets exactly because you never know. Right now we know the provisional best fighting game of all time and the worst. Yeah, what's the worst? It is called power moves, really deadly moves. If you guys, if you had the Genesis version, have you done terras cosci? Yep, it's a bad game, all right, let's just making sure. Uh. Mark writes in about PlayStation four trophy percentages since switching to the PS four this generation, I have myself far more interested in trophies than achievements due to the rarity data. I don't care about earning the trophies myself, but I do enjoy looking through the lists to see how many people completed certain tasks. With the soul of games, for example, you can see at which boss people bounced off the game. The percentage gap between each successive boss diminishes as the game goes on. This seems to say something about the determination of the type of person that plays these games. With Blood Born, seven point one percent have the Platinum, which is even more impressive considering only sixty three percent beat the first boss. Ground zero has had numerous complaints about its short length, yet only fifty one point eight percent beat the main mission. Compare that to the which or three, where twenty six point six percent of people finished that long ass game. Do you ever find do you ever find these percentages interesting to look at? Or am I just the boat the most boring man on the minute? I think I look at them all the time. Yeah, yeah, it's it's fascinating and you have to and I look at like achievement and trophy tracking sites to try to extrapolate that stuff for other platforms and figure some of that stuff out. The thing you have to remember with a lot of those percentages, though, is that if a game has become free, there is a sudden influx of people who didn't pay for it and are way less likely to do much more than launch it. So like ground Zeros I believe was with Gold or or something, so games that were free for a time, those percentages probably get super fucked up by the influx of new players that maybe don't care enough about it to play it at all, but they launch it once. Yeah, but you do find the cases where like super easy trophies that like you get as part of like a tutorial of a game are less than one hundred percent, and you're like, what happened? Like someone put the game in, launched it and then when I gotta go do something else and then never played again, or they launched it on like the wrong account, and so that counts the percentage, and like, oh shit, I meant to be playing it on my real account. Yeah, Like there's a lot of weird That data is really weird. Say I love that, I love the percentage, but I also on the Xbox side of things. I like how you can track. I love the custom tracking the developers can like what was it like the gone home Gone Home really good? Like it's really good. I wish I wish both those ideas existed on both platforms, Like they're both fascinating ways to look at the way people play games or the way you can sort it and see, like, okay, which achievements are my closest to getting because that bar almost filled up, Like that's it's oh yeah, the bar is really yes, that that stuff's really good. They Yeah, they both improved their like play data stuff in different ways, and I wish I wish that they they both had done everything. They're both really cool solutions. I wish Steam would evolve it's achievements a little bit more like it's like they are but like every other feature on Steam, like they made it and then the abandoned it, and they have percentages and stuff like that for comparison sake. But but I don't know, it just seems like the Steam they could be doing more with that stuff. Yeah, I guess. So. You know, it's still useful to like scroll down your friend feed and just see who's been playing what, Yeah, Like, that's kind of cool. I guess I'd never do that. I don't pay any attention to friends stuff, But what was I gonna say? Oh, it's like it's interesting to kind of well interesting, it's sometimes all over over some of the Steam achievements I've gotten, Like I'll play every time they add a new table to Pinball Arcade, it comes with five more Steam achievements or three or whatever it is, and man, no one has those. So you can have like your your trophy showcase rarest achievements thing on your profile and I put that up there and it is just like three DLC tables from Pinball Arcade, and then like fucking it's like, have a car in Firefall is also apparently one of the rarest Like it was something related to getting in a vehicle or something, but that I got like right off the bat playing Firefall. Maybe it was because I had the cool Digital Deluxe Edition or I don't know, but that might be a case where it's a free to play game, so a ton of people maybe well maybe a ton of people to play fucking Firefall, but maybe they launched it and then never played enough to get in a car. I don't know Firefall in stores now. Firefall, I guess you can still play that. I actually don't know. I assume so I would assume it's still running. Yeah, I feel like we would have heard if it shut down, somebody would have told us. Man, that was the battle battle Born Overwatch confusion of that day. Yeah, Firefall, titan Fall, tower Fall, fire Watch, and then Firefall had the StarCraft Fall. I didn't help. Yeah, video games, uh Nicholas wrote in the word storm onto all those names. Uh Nicholas wrote in about that l m AO box aim bought oh right, yeah, yeah, and there was the for TF two right that we talked about last week and we said that it seemed like that's how people got banned. Yeah, he wrote in a little more was an interesting little facts about that whole thing. This is basically he says, I'll just read the little thing. Apparently the story is as follows the LMAO box premium author. Because this guy was selling this access to this name bot for quite a while. He the author hosted his source code and a private gith hub repository. His gith hub subscription lapsed, but he kept uploading the source code, so it converted from a paid private repository to a free public repository. Somebody somehow noticed the public source code and emailed the repository u r L to Valve with the original source code. Valve was finally able to come up with a way to detect the bot, updated the Steam client, and then collected the list of cheaters. The fun part is that Valve has been pushing phone number acquisitions via Steam Guard, so when they vac banned the cheating accounts, they also vac banned every other account that used the same phone number. The other fun part is that vac band accounts can't trade or sell inventory items, and some of them had ten thousand dollars hat collections yep, and then like items that were just like super rare and almost unique and are just now gone. He included a YouTube link. He says, here is an amusing video of some preteen boys freaking out about their back. I think I saw that video. I haven't watched that. They have seen that video, but it's like a bunch of Yeah, it's a bunch of like high pitched voice skys going I don't even care, No, it's fine. I've got like nine caps. They're all bad oh oh, did you get all looking at it? I don't even care. Whatever, man, I don't care. I don't care if I have to pull that up. That sounds fun. Uh, let's see, Lauren writes in from Apple Valley, Minnesota. Anyody where that is? Yeah? And they got a river there. I've been on that river. Is it the Apple Valley River? It is? I had to rent? Is there an Apple Valley River Gang? I don't think there's a gang. But if you if you go down that river, you have to buy law rent another tube for your cooler full of beer. You can't just like tie it to your tube. So I gotta have stands in one tube and then have a separate tube for your beer. Actually it's kind of cool. You can just fill it with ice and then just like flow down the river and go out on the river. You gotta have some standards. It's nice. Apple Valley River gang A bunch of street toughs, that's right. Uh, let's see, Lauren writes in an emailed entitled Saints Rokyo Drift. That was my reaction to a Saints row game that takes place in near future Tokyo, a new city and a drift culture. Provide a reason to return to the Wheels on the Road gameplay and car customization, and then she includes a list of things that this game could have. Anime gang that fights with giant swords, why not a classic yakas a gang. These are things you could have in any Saints Row game, regardless of setting. But yes, a game developer gang that you beat via a JRPG boss battle, a Kaiju Gundam esque mech battles the boss from Iron Chef, and of course drifting. That's a good idea. I would totally be into a Saints Row game of that nature. That totally sounds like something they would do. From the title to all the ideas there, like yeah, yeah, good idea. And I feel like they have to they have to go more focused with the next one, right, Like they can't just they can't keep getting bigger and crazier because they've already gone it's not going to be Space Superhero already. But they think it also like out in different ways and say like, oh now it's like Destiny. I don't know, there's a bunch of multiplayer stuff they could get into if they wanted to get weird. Sure, sure that way. I like Yeah. I like our angle on it where like you're you're emphasizing getting back to the driving around and and being being a kind of an urban crime game. Like Saints were super smart, it'd be like stupid sleeping ducks. Yes, because that game wasn't stupid enough for Yeah, you can impale a guy with the sword fish. Yeah, yeah, games out right. Uh, let's see, Trevor writes in with a short request. Trevor from Utah, I guess I'm a damn child, and the talk of older computers on last week's episode confused the hell out of me, where things like an ATARI eight hundred and FM towns and PC eighty eight more like a computer or like a console in a modern sense. I know you probably weren't upgrading video cards and tweaking your sick rig with Neon blue lights at that time, but I'd assumed it was more like buying a comp Usa PC versus one from Circuit City or something, where it was still a damn PC that did PC stuff. But from the talk it made them sound more like consoles where you had different versions that only work on that model of PC. Please help. Yeah, I mean they were there were computers, you know, so you had a disk drive for saving programs, you had basic you could program your own stuff. You could hook up a printer to them, you could print shit out. At least with the you know, the Atari and stuff like that. Fmtowns. I'm not one hundred percent familiar with the Fmtowns actually. I think is more of a console actually, although quite a few of those hooked up to a TV, right, yeah, they all they all right, So there was that Commodo sixty four just tooks up to a television. You know, you can do the switchbox or you can do composite. Uh. And yeah, there were upgrades of a of a sense, but oftentimes yeah, like they were. The Atari eight hundred was very similar to the Atari four hundred. It just had more ram and and you know, it had a full keyboard versus the four hundred had of membrane and all the other stuff. But they were functionally very similar. So it was the PlayStation four point five Avatari, yeah more or less. Yeah, except I think they launched the exact same time or like not that far apart. It was more like, you know, hey, pick you know, your basic model, or get the get the advanced one. I guess I guess one of the big points that he doesn't seem to grasp is that, like they were all unique in terms of software, right, Yeah, Like like you couldn't just buy software that ran on all of them. So it's not like it's not like a bunch of idn't It wasn't the none of them ran well, they all ran some form of DOSS in a lot of cases or basic or something, but it wasn't. Yeah, like the Apple two and the Commodore sixty four were not similar. Yeah, they were similar in functionality, but the you know, you couldn't just have one game run on both. Like versions of software were coming out specifically for each of these types of I mean I had discs like Beachhead two, where like one side was the Atari four hundred eight hundred version, the other side was the Apple two version, so you'd you'd buy one disc and you could play both versions. But it was definitely different stuff. So yeah, there there was a competition in that sense. You know, it was kind of before the before things got standardized and the PC became the PC, uh, you know, and before DOSS and Windows became the thing. Yeah. Uh, they were just the resilient types of computers and they were older and thing right. Yeah, didn't didn't like I didn't IBM like sue over the PC compatible stuff, like wasn't it compact that? Yeah, there were people original saying like, here's a PC compatible and we have our own version of DOSS. They straight up like reverse engineered the ROMs or whatever to make that stuff work. Yeah. I want to say, you're right. I think it was like a big like precedent set. But then they were also like bootleg Apple two's being made and Apple try to stop that, uh too, So there was that stuff happening around the same time old computers. Uh. Do you guys want to hear about that mass effect ride? Yeah? Dave from Pleasanton has has been there own. Yeah, yeah, Uh, it is that? Where is it? California Great America? Yeah? Is that where it is? Where is great? Uh? It's it's Great America, but it's it's got some longer name now. It used to just be paramounts Great America before that was the one Great America when we went to know its Okay, he just reversed to it as California Great America. I think maybe that is what they call it now. Uh. Anyway, he used to have the Mirthmobile there. He used to be Marryotts. We're going to Marryotts because it was Paramounts America. I guess no, Marryotts were going, yeah, the hotel chamber, yeah, I assume, and then it became Paramount At some point they got that top gun ride. Yeah, it's my first roder cluster. Paramount got into the theme park buying business, didn't they, Because I remember we had we had Cara Winds, which is like the big North Carolina that's central old theme park, and at a certain point I think it became Paramounts. Caro wins, Yeah, I guess. Yeah. All right. He rode the mass Fact ride at California Great America. Here are some highlights. I thought it didn't open until, yeah, next week or something. I actually got an invite to go ride it myself. Yeah, I think next Tuesday. And I've believed they even referred to that as being before the opening. So I have no idea. I was just thinking so that the California Extreme, the old arcade thing is like right there at America is like the hotel is like it is right now store that. So I was thinking, if I end up going to California extreme, maybe I would go ride the mass Effect rides. Well, he's got a he's got a heart. The trip report firsthand account. Here are some highlights, he says. No one else in my family knew what Mass Effect was, so I told my five year old son it was quote like Star Wars, and he went with me, Uh, They're oh, okay, here you go. There was a banner outside saying the ride was in beta testing, whatever that means. Wow, it's one of those four D experiences where you're in a theater with moving seats to simulate being in a spaceship, along with occasional smoke and mist and weird smells. I mean, those are cool, but that's it's not quite I thought it was going to be both. I thought it was gonna be like like a bit of like some theatrics and screen stuff, but also you're still moving on I mean some of them do that, like the Transformers one at Universal Studios, Like you are moving around and it is a screen. I think this is the most telling. It took over the theater where a SpongeBob SquarePants ride used to be. The premise is you're on a tourship going on a vacation to a new planet via mass relay, but then a shows up and you fight it with help from Rex. I see a tour among the stars. Yep. Also clearly they're going with version two of the Mass Effect three ending here. Yeah, if they're still functional mass relays right there. No Shepherd except a brief mention in the beginning. Halfway through the ride, a huge alien creature spits water at you. They had to stop the show and turn all the lights on for us after this part because a kid in the front row was uncontrollably crying and freaking out. He was escorted out and they restarted the ride. Anyway, it checks most of the boxes you'd expect for a mass effect themed ride, a mass relay, a Normandy cameo, and dodging reaper lasers with Rex. Do you get to make any choices? Is there any like can you pull a renegade switch and make it over? That would be crazy ride. Everybody had two buttons and people voted on which course of action to take that would be cool, and then both of them ended up in the same place regardless, with like a weird kind of subtle middle finger along the way to be like, ah, you made that choice. That fuck you. Rackney Queen's still here, Yes, deal with it. Indeed, Uh, this email came in from anonymous. It's about Level Lord. Okay, did Level Lord right this? I don't think so. Okay. There was actually a name on it and she said they said, please don't read my name. Okay, my my viral marketing detector might be going off a little here, So I'm not sure. But because we were talking about Level Lord last week, we were talking about Level Lord. Hello. There's also it's written all in caps, like it's some old telegram or something with a bunch of stops in it. But here we go. Hello. I am a video game developer currently working in Denmark. We have partnered with the Level Lord. We have also partnered with Robert Atkins, the doctor that made He's dead. Okay, so I there's there's an artist, like an illustrator named Robert Atkins who they're talking about. It says, Okay, no bread, you heard of I am bread. This is no fucking bread. It's the name of the game. Yeah, no fucking bread. You were you take place in that the fucking gigantic house. Do not eat the bread. It's gluten free. Yeah no, do not eat any of the bread. But there's bacon everywhere. Just fucking throw it back. It doesn't matter, It doesn't matter. We have also partnered with Robert Atkins. Stop coming soon, Stop old franchise, Stop getting read a bunch of ellipsies. Stop hashtag the Level Lord is coming. If that is, if that is their viral k if this is, If this is, if that is how they choose to launch their campaign with hashtag the Level Lord is coming, I am all fair. We don't feel so bad about doing free advertising for them. Well, I don't know. We'll see where that ends up that guy. We will see. Good to know that there's still a project out there. Yes, if the Level Lord launch as a Kickstarter, we should keep a close by that launch with the playable protub side. Apparently you have to do that. Yeah, that's good if you come from that era. Yes, even if you want people want that. Even if you are a name from the heyday of shooters, you should have something to bring with you. It's gonna be just bad rats. Three sure at the Level Lord end. Yeah, yeah, it's nothing but a series of Now it's for real, just a series of giant bedrooms. Uh Nate from Salt Lake City wrote in about fruit on pizzas. A lot of people wrote in about fruit on pizzas, specifically pointing out that tomato is a fruit. Yeah, like that's a fun argument. Reminded of that? Great? Okay, thanks, Yeah, let's have that rad semantic argument over and over again, Internet. Thanks not. I can't believe you didn't say tomato. Yeah yeah, I guess. Yeah. Well this, this is this is a decent one. After listening to your heated debate not fruit on pizza, I thought I would let you know what people get up to around here. The cafeteria in my office building makes a pizza with barbecue sauce, pulled pork, bacon, and apple pie filling. Okay, I was on board until the last I've got it into. I mean, they put an apple in a pig's mouth and they cook it right, so why not apple sauce and apps. The staff told me they made it, made the first one as a joke, but people kept asking for it, and now they make it at least once a week. I mean, barbecue sauce on a pizza is great. Yeah, meat, yeah, it's chicken, chicken. It's good. It's Yeah. Also, there's a pizza place in town that makes a pizza with pepperoni and mandarin orange slices, also super weird, but I order it at least twice a month until I moved out of their delivery area. And it's h hot orange I just want. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know about no good color. Yeah, I guess that's kind of similar to pineapple, right, sure, sweet sourish kind of profile going on, but the pepperoni is so salt and yeah, I don't know, but it's usually ham and pine it right, Yeah, So like pepperoni pineapple, I wouldn't do because Pepperoni's just got such a there's a grime to est that ham on a pizza usually doesn't have. Not to say that ham cannot be grimy, because brother, I've had some grimy ham in my time. Yeah, that's what they called back in college. So grimmy hammy am come down the road. I'm super fascinated with this apple pie filling thing, though. Yeah, man, I would I would be done to try something like that. I would try that, yeah, sure, I like I love apple pie. Yeah, it is among my favorite pies. Is absolutely up there. I don't have you don't have to, but it's good. Why not? I lean toward not o man, I like just a good pure apple pie. Sometimes sometimes I think of like a vanilla ice cream or something like that, Like if you've got like some high grade vanilla ice cream where it's like this is like vanilla bean, motherfucker, then yeah, if it's but you just got like I don't know, we got a big thing of dryers. Let's fucking go. Like, I'm with you, but it's not the same. Are Dryers and Briars both? I was just confused about that. I thought it was so that's I think they are, Like those are both prominent ice cream breaks. I think you're right. Yeah, but there is a there is a regional split like Hellman's mayonnaise, best Freelanced also brand also a thing back on best Foods came Jars, it used to say, known as Helman's East of the Rockies. Yeah, yeah, we totally had us back home, and we also had Briers. Yeah so Harties, Yes, we had, dude, we had we had Hardis way before the Carl's Junior byout happened. Right, Parties used to just be an independent thing back back home, Frisco burger that had onions on it didn't put like onions right, No, no, no, like a cowboy burger. That's right. So Dryers is not Briars. No, Dryers is Eddies Dyes d y Eddy's Grand ice Cream. Oh maybe maybe not maybe not? Sorry, I mean, yeah, I thought you were just mistaking Briars. I don't think I'm no, I didn't think he was mistaking it. I just I don't think I'm me. I'm looking at the Wikipedia page for Dryers and there's no, there is nothing here about about Briars. Is it d r e y d r e y e r s. Wow? Yeah, Uh now I have to go to the dryer's page and see if I can figure out. Because so I went to the Grocery Outlet, which is your home for used food, and uh use it. It's it's kind of cast off. There's a really good you go find the grocery Outlet website and see if they still have like this half hour long video about like hey, we'll buy your food, we'll get you, We're get your purchase order like I fucking one day wait expire. They take take solicitations not not like for people not from like regular people, but from like if you're as or you've got a bunch of dted cans, okay, or you've got a bunch of stuff that's like, oh this is damn near expiration, they'll steel take it. They're like, no, we'll get your purchase order, like okay. It's not like in a fucking day. It's not like game stop and I can just bring in like an old loaf of bread and can't give it to them. No. Well, I thought we were very clear about this. Don't eat the bread sorry sorry uh? Or you poking something up at grocery aulet now, So there is there is still in Eady's. So yeah, the Eady's website d y s apostrophe s A or rather is the same as the dryer's website. So I think that is a regional thing. Yeah, we had okay, so that's what it is. That's because I found So I was at the Grocery Oulet and I saw a bunch of eads and I was like, that's a dryer's box. What the fuck? And I was like, oh, it's got to be one of those fuckings came from Foos mayonnaise. It was just like a regional trademark thing. It's like somebody else got a similar names well, or the two companies merged, but just rather than rebrand that, they're like, well this people already know this brand here, so fuck it. Keep the brand recognition. No, we have best foods. Yeah, we had helmets. Weird, man. I want to go to Hardy's now had good Probably it would just be a Carl's Junior, now, wouldn't I mean, because it's instead of the stars Burger. They just have the exact same burgers, just with different name names. Yeah. Does Carl's Junior have the Frisco Burger because I think Hardy's still serves that thing. I don't know, I've never that thing was Oh god, it was like I want to say, it was like Swiss cheese and mushrooms and something else on grilled sour. Though they may have that as a different Frisco thick Burger. She's a press release for two thousand and five. Is the thick Burger different from the six Dollars? I've never been to a Carls, so the thick Burger is the sixth dollar? That is that? I think that is their their name. I've never actually been to a Hardies, But I follow the stuff. Did it stars? Did it cease being six six dollars? No? No, I think they just didn't use the six dollar name here because they already had. Okay, I don't know, I don't know. Actually I don't think it was ever six dollars. I think it's just supposed to evoke fanciness, right. But yeah, at a certain point, I don't know that you can call something six the six dollars burger when it's actually eight or whatever. Also, six dollar burger in San Francisco is a deal, yeah, totally. Well, I don't think there are any Carls juniors here, so so to use this is so the So they introduced the thick Burger line, which I believe is just their equivalent for the six dollars burgers the Carls has uh And two years after the original Frisco was retired, they reduced the Frisco thick Burger just kind of bring back the the concept of the original Frisco. According to this press release, had a great taste. This is a quote from the Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Hardies. It had a great taste, combining the flavors of buttered and grilled sour goo bread bacons with cheese, tomato, nak onion flavored mayonnaise. The people crave it did have bacon on it, that's right. We want to went back to our original mayonnaise supplier from the early nineties to make sure that we exactly match that memorable taste the onion mayo provided. But now that's been reincarnated as a thick Burger, capital T one word. It's better than ever because we're gonna make it with a third pound charboyl and Angus beef patty. People who love this burger before we're gonna be blown away by Frisco Thick Burger. It's available as part of a combo Frisco Thick. What's a friend of Mine's shame? What happened to him? All right? They have a pretzel. I was trying to find another email and I couldn't help seeing the special if. Yeah, it's a pretzel. Pretzel buns got big at Windy's for a little bit there also also did I just see a moonshine Burger? Go buy? What the fuck is going on? To Carl Carl the Carls Junior website also is advertising this pretzel sandwich. That means we could get it in this in this part of the country as well. What is that moonshine burger? Carl is going through some stuff. No, I'm gonna go back to the Hartist side and look they put they put moonshine or moonshine taste something in the barbecue sauce. I got a press release for Sinco to Times, to Sinco to Mayo about making cupcakes with beer for frosting. There is midnight moonshine Burger part of the Midnight Moon. Oh yeah, Midnight Moon is good. What does the Midnight Moon. It's just a you can buy. It's moonshine you can buy at the store like we get it to fake pretty frequently, fake mass produced moon show. Is that not actual moonshine corn whiskey? Yeah, I'm thinking they may. I'm sure they make it pretty much the same way. But okay, it's pretty good if Nate coming out of a still out in the woods and moonshine, yeah, that's yes. I'm not clear about moonshine, and I don't necessarily want to even but I agree with you if it doesn't resemble an episode of The Dukes of Hazard. I don't want it. I'm gonna see if the Carl's Junior is advertising this moonshine thing. I think they they are. I think I saw a commercial A member of the Danika Patrick or something. A member of my family has a still in their front yard, in the front front yard. Well, it's no longer in use. It wasn't used for decades, not in the front yard. Now that it's not producing, it's safe to all right, one more email, two more emails? What do you think you stake some emails? All right? How many you got? I mean, I've skipped over it. Several email ship bobcasts John Bob dot com to email address. Send an email to that address. You can sound like these people who did exactly that. Like God, damn it. You've weaponized with the segment intro direct introduction music using it against me. All Right, fine, I'll read an email that I was going to skip from John. You guys always talk about how much better congratulations John, your email barely made the gray. It's it's not a terrible do You guys always talk about how much better the PC version of games are in terms of performance and graphics. I have always been a console guy, but I'm thinking of buying a gaming PC. The one thing keeping me from it is screen size. I play from my couch on a sixty five inch TV. My question is, how do you guys play on PC? Do you have a monitor at your desk? Do you run it through TV or just play on a laptop? What is the best setup? I do it on my couch on a big, gass TV. So yeah, I was actually wondering about that with you, because you're not like a traditional PC guy. Now do you even have it, like in any kind of desk setup where you could sit down at a mouse keyboard? Now? In fact, I bought some crazy chair on Amazon when StarCraft two, I think when Heart of this Farm came out with. It's like a fold out lawn chair, but like an expensive one. It's like one hundred and something dollars and it's got like a little tray or STU drinks on. But it's big enough for me to put a mouse pad and mouse. I've got a keyboard, so on the rare occasion I need to play some thing with the mouse and keyboard, I can pull out this weird chair. But that never really in that case, do you get closer to the screen. Yeah. Yeah. Also it's not a great setups, so I mean it's always just with a the Xbox Elite controller sitting on my couch. I say, like in a lot of cases, text on a PC game is optimized for you being close to monitor. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff like less readable for you at eight insistance in recent years. No, like maybe three or four years ago when I was doing this, Yeah, it would be harder to read stuff in the game. Like if there's some RTS where this mouse and keyboard where they know it's a mouse and keyboard game, like, they'll be more likely to have tiny text. Yeah. I couldn't read Ship from the original release of StarCraft two because I was sitting, you know, h eight feet back and couldn't see anything. But yeah, I mean the stuff I'm playing now, you know, I've played toumb Raider and all the metal games. Yeah, any anything that's like a port from console is totally fun on a TV. Yeah. Yeah, in the last couple of years, it's been really good. Well, isn't your PC like some giant ridiculous like Flaming Orange. It's Orman's rig Yes, it is a yellow and it's gigantic. I have a sea through panel on the side. Yes, it does neon lights. I think there's some. I think some of the cards inside light up like the okay, yeah, there's light tappening in there, and a bunch of fans and all sorts of crazy stuff. Yeah. Yeah. If you can, if you can stand to have a PC in your living room, or if you have space for it like that, hook it up, hook it up like a console, and it's use Steam Big Picture. You know. I don't even use that. Yeah, yeah, I mean I just have a wireless Logic Tech keyboard that has like the mouse pad built in, right, Yeah, and so I just, you know, I can see the Steam library without going in the big Picture mode and I just launch it from there. And the controller. Yeah, I'm hooked up to two monitors and I like running at resolutions above ten eighty. So having this big sixteen by ten it was like twenty five sixty by sixteen hundred monitor. Uh, you know, everything looks real, crisp. It's nice being close. It's a lot of pixels. It's a lot of pixels. Never enough though. I like having a hotas and a steering wheel. I don't know, man, So yeah, I have a desk in a month, Yeah, I just I don't like sitting at a desk to play games unless I have to. I sit at that desk whether I'm playing console games or PC. So sort of that kind of the same set up regardless, Like I'm in the living room for console games and an office room for a PC. I do have a Steam link set up, yeah, right, which has been working all right. Yeah, there's there're there are options out there. I kind of want to get one of those twenty one by nine monitors. Yeah, I saw I saw one of those at Will Smith's house. It is it is alarmingly wide. Yeah, when you see it in person, that's a lot of monitors, like two monitors, but it just sounds I have two monitors. But if yeah, what if there was no scene? Oh actually, hang on, you're talking about what twenty one by nine? Are there even wider ones than that? I don't know. I think that's what Will has I think that's what he's saying. That's what I intended, is the monitor that Will Smith was talking about. I can't remember if there's an aspect ratio that's even wider than that, but there always just can't get wide enough, all right. One more email from Joe in Atlanta. Greetings, bomb cast crew. Shame Jason's not here this week for this one. So my wife is house and dog sitting for her parents this week. My father in law was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and they took a trip to the mountains before he starts his treatment. Last night, my wife sent me a picture of something interesting her word that she found in the house. The picture was of a little box with Chinese texts and Chunley and Ryu doing the hunka chunka on the front. I have many questions, but the one I have for you, gentlemen, is this, Do we do the healthy thing, get it out of the house, humiliating my father in law and labeling ourselves as untrustworthy snoopers, or do we let it be and potentially let him ride off to Valhalla as a true street overlord. Ps new diet PEPSI is garbage water pps I forgot the important detail that he is eighty years old and my mother in law is only a few years behind. I think he got gotta live and let live, getta live and let street I think your two options there are one, yes, live and let's just let let him become the street over lord he was born to be. Or remove it from the house and don't say anything and just assume that they'll go. He'll go like where did I put my crazy pills? I lost? Odd? Damnit uh And that'll be that. Yeah, man, Street over Lord reaching a level of market penetration that I was not expecting. Yeah, though at the same time, Street over Lord actually does seem like potentially dangerous true. Actually, did the FDA come out, Yeah, the FDA came out and said they this actually has like actual vagrant it and that's some other stuff and we don't know and don't don't be careful with the stuff. So it seems like even people that are healthy and maybe you know, in the market for that sort of stuff. And and of the maybe an age, but I don't know, maybe is that is not not age appropriate Street over Lord and appropriate in any age. These are a lot of questions or a doctor, yeah, that we probably shouldn't give any real advice on. None of us are doctors, but I'm aware of No, I'm not a doctor speaking of FDA declarations such Yeah, I almost put that vaping announcement in the news now right, I don't know it quite passes. Must wait, what happen? They're starting to regulate stuff when some very heavy handed regulations came down from I guess I think it was from the FDA. I'd assume it would have to be there about about all the liquids going forward have to be approved by them before sale. Wow. Uh, and it's a very They're in the pocket of fucking big tobacco obviously, and it's a very expensive approval. It's like a million dollars in eliquid or something like that. Yeah, some heavy regulations hitting the vaping industry. Of course, this is gonna happen. Yeah, you know, regardless of the reason. It's regardless of whether you believe it is fucking big tobacco getting its fucking tendrils into the government and which snuff out the it's not the vaping freedoms you've previously enjoyed, or whether it's just like actual fucking good science of like, hey, sometimes these are made by a dude in the back room and there's zero regulation. So before you fucking vape this ship, maybe at least let us fucking look at it. Make sure it's not going to murder you. Both of those things can be true at the same time. So yeah, I don't know careful which a vape. Also, I you know whatever, that's people shouldn't vape, but also people shouldn't smoke. But if you're going to do one or other other of them, maybe vaping is okay. We don't know. We don't have the science. The science is not there yet. Wait for those approvals to happen. Ranking of vapors. That has to happen some science that hasn't even developed yet. Yeah, podcasting John Bonds all gross. Also that stuff is all gross. Smoking cigarettes fucking gross, vaping fucking gross. Some smells, some weird smells walking around downtown San Facisco these days. Yeah, you never know. When you see some guy blowing like ripping giant clouds, what's gonna come your way? It's like, oh, that's an nice This is a nice banana and blueberry blend, Like, oh, that's like cookie dough, Like, oh, that's weed. Also also like a strange uptick in the amount of weed that I smell around the office lately. I don't know what's up with there around the office, meaning like inside Oh, no, I'm been walking around like say a six plot r definitely around this office. Yes, the people are getting fucking high in the city constantly a lot. I mean it's always been drug It's always been the case, but like, just for whatever reason, I'm noticing it way more in the last few weeks. I went to get lunch or something like last week, and some guys just like packing a bowl on the sidewalk at that busy lunch time. That has been happening for a decade plus. Right here. I came out of here in two thousand and two to interview for Game Spot and there was a like banker looking dude in a nice suit crossing an intersections, hitting a bowl like as as he was walking across the Yeah, I mean, I know it's probably been going on. It's probably legal here, right. No, No, I mean I mean people have like medical stuff, because I still think even if you have the medical stuff, it's not that doesn't give you free rein to do it on the street. I don't think it's not like the same rules as like smoking cigarettes. I don't think so. I don't think I see a lot of people just walking around smoking weed. Yeah, I think It's one of the things where it's like it's it is not technically legal, but the cops have better shit to do. Yeah, and they you know, it's something they would nail you for if they were probably already looking at you for something else, like, oh, by the way, we need a reason to stop you. Oh congratulations, just smoking weed, So now we're gonna bug you for a while. But yeah, I don't know, I don't. Yeah. I see people just like walking down the sidewalk with the like beers and stuff too, which is probably technically that is definitely illegal, yeah, but yeah, but also probably bigger fish to fry. Yeah for cops. San Francisco a heating this stig nightmare brown bag. That shit, I got a fucking I got in trouble with the cops when I had a bottle of whiskey and a brown bag not drinking. It's the brown bag. As it turns out, it does not. I thought that was the whole point of the brown bag used to be used to be like a middle ground there of like the brown bag makes it okay, I mean, but the point it was just to be inconspicuous and hopefully they'll look the other way. That doesn't mean they can't still target you. This was like two thousand and four in the middle of the night in a alley in Kansas, and I wasn't even drinking out of it, Like, what are you doing at an alley in the middle of the night in Kands walking between house parties? And I had my old crow with me and it was in a bag and we're just walking down there and a cop comes up with a flashlight and sure enough I get a damn ticket. Well just just like for having like an open container. Is that? I mean, they had the lid on it, but it was on the way that it was like half drunk. Yeah, the same way that if you had a half full bottle in your car. But I'm not, but if it was possibly then well but yeah, I was walking around an alley like a bum. I'm not hurting anyone. Yeah, no, it's there are plenty of victimless crimes that are used to fill the fucking city's coffers in every city. That That was my move to save money in college was you would go to house parties and you'd have to pay five dollars for a cup, or I could just bring a leader of old crow which is eight dollars for a leader, and we'll get to you a way drunker, and you don't have to wait in line for the cake. That's a tip. I don't know. When we were having parties you paid at the door. If someone walked up with their own ship and said, oh, no, you buy it, you buy the cup. Yeah, we were selling cups at the fucking door. You didn't get into that. You were buying the cup. Wow, okay, like fuck you if you showed up with your own ship and said, no, I'm just gonna drink this and be like fuck you, No you're not. I constantly just showed up and drank my own Yeah, no, would have gotten you washed it down in the bathroom and you're yeah, you would have been you would have been not allowed into that party. And if you've been found at that party later, you would have gotten fucked up and making money back on the keg was serious fucking business. Tell we did not fucking take lightly. That's also no mc county parties. Yeah, serious business. And then someone would get stabbed. Yep. I don't know what one one party, but though though, wouldn't you know years after that when we had you know, a little more money to fucking throw a party with. Uh, we would go to the beverages and more and there at the at the BEVMO, they had a brand of vodka for a while there that was like four fucking dollars a bottle. It was actually it was actually pretty good vodka. Like it was some off brand. I don't remember what the brand was, but it was not some bottom shelf bullshit. It was like it was a decent, like low to mid grade vodka. You could drink. It was fine. So we bought like fucking three cases of and then just because none of us wanted to actually tend bar at a party, we just set it all out or just had it sitting there, you know, because where we're gonna put like, I don't know, just set it on the bar. It'll be fine. And so there's just a case of vodka sitt into the bar, which all disappeared in ten minutes because a bunch of fucking kids show showed up butch high school kids stuck stole it all Jesus and and or just we're walking around the party with their own individual bottle of Vodkas like this, we've made mistakes. And then a bunch of other ship got stolen that night. I wonder why. Uh yeah, that was we had some We had to call the cops on our own parties multiple times at that house, like it was should get out of hand. Yeah. I had to get that GTA back out from under my bed as opposed to the GTA coke mirrors. Yeah. Yeah, man, I was about to end the podcast, but there's a piece of breaking news. I feel like we should talk about Ben Fritz, who is a kind of I guess games a writer for hire. He used to write for Variety, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah. Like his Twitter bio says the t is covering the film Biz, Disney and more for The Wall Street Journal has just tweeted here's the tweet. Disney cancel struggling Infinity video game line takes one hundred and forty seven million dollars charge end of Disney as video game publisher. Whoa so yeah, shit, I guess Infinity is done. Wow, he doesn't. He doesn't provide a link. There's no like this was ten minutes ago. As of this recording, didn't even realize it was quote struggling. Yeah, the tweet tweet before that, Disney falls short of Wall Street estimates for revenue and earning, stock falls six percent and after hours trading. Right after that, he tweeted that they were putting an into Infinity, which I guess was the only like quote unquote big deal video game. They have some mobile stuff that they held onto themselves, but all the Star Wars stuff got offloaded too. Yeah. Yeah, and and they they would license out of the properties and stuff like that if anyone wanted them. Trying to find some more context for this, and I'm not seeing it anywhere, that's huh. Yeah. I mean so that if you broke down I think if you broke down the numbers for the Toys to Life stuff. Uh, last year it was a situation where Lego came in but the market didn't grow. Yeah, so they kind of took a chunk of of stuff, but people are getting increasingly smaller pieces of the pod same. Yeah, So that's but also I don't yeah, I don't know that I would necessarily have defined it as struggling, but I don't know what their books look like. Yeah, that's weird because that seemed like it was going to keep going for a while. Like if you're going to make a character driven like plastic figure line. Yeah, it probably will do well. You would think Disney would be at the top of the list, and you know, they were making a pretty fucking fascinating game with that stuff too, and that that came built out of that Toy Story three game. That toybox mode was in there, and then Infinity grew out of that, especially the number of franchises they were craming into that thing, Like, yeah, it's not just does Disney, Pixar, Marvels tied into like what the wristbands you would get at the party would do something in the game. You know they were that was like a there was a brand synergy to that fucking thing that you would have thought would have protected it from something like this. But huh, I don't have any other information, Like that's the tweet. I keep seeing everybody, everybody that's talking about on Twitter is just retweeting that same Ben Fritz tweet. So I'm not Let's see Polygon has now put up a story ten minutes after that tweet just sourcing that tweet. Let's if it just sources the tweet, if there's anymore in there, uh, I will read you the entirety of the Polygon story. Disney announced today that it would be discontinuing it's Infinity video game franchise. This story is developing, Disney announced that's different than a tweet that's the story. But yeah, it doesn't source that tweet, so they're obviously getting the same primary information from somewhere else or the same place. Wow. Anyway, it seems to be happening. I don't I don't know that we have any other info to uh, to add to that just yet, but definitely seems to be all the games Twitter is talking about at the moment. Yeah, I guess the weird one. Some context will follow on that. You know, some people there was just some announcement about Lego Dimensions adding some characters recently, so it seems like they're still in it. Okay. Yeah, I definitely seen a lot of people say coulating about the future of Skylanders, and I suspect their inlines Skylanders. Yeah, yeah, like our our amibo's the thing strong got Kali and Marie coming out the sunkay. I mean they've sold quite a bit. If they sold a lot of Ambo, Dan is single handedly keeping the amibo business going. I almost have all of them, uh, yeah, well, we'll see what happens with the stuff. Like I wonder if this is the year of the Toys to Life finally kind of flattened out. I would have said last year was yea, So maybe that's informing some decisions this year on some of this stuff. But uh huh yeah, that's uh. I mean, I don't know. Disney has always been kind of weird with its video game stuff, so maybe as soon as things weren't growing, yeah, for whatever reason, I mean it was just a new competitor in this space and stuff like that. Maybe they just cutn't run right, like they they visibly got out of big game development to begin with. Yeah, it just seemed like Infinitive was like the one outlier that was still doing well enough to keep around. So maybe they were just like, they'll get back in in five years and bring back that Pirates, the Carabby and RPG everything. I'll be fine. So they're sitting on our drive somewhere Guilty Party two. Yeah, uh well, anyway, yeah, I wonder, Yeah, that's uh, that's you know, they they have that that studio out in Salt Lake that did Infinity, So you have to wonder, like, is that still a going concern. Yes, are they they showing those people the door like? There's a lot of moving parts to this thing still, Yes, indeed. I guess we'll find out more in the hours ahead. Yeah, but for now, that's gonna do it for this week's edition. To the bomb Cast, Dan, You're free, okay, and play across for six hours. That sounds good. Yeah. I'm gonna get sick too, all right, I've been sick all this time. Uh cool, Well, thanks for listening. That's been the bomb Cast. There will be another one got the same time next week. We will see you then,
