Welcome to the NXT Podcast, your home for weekly NXT reviews and insight.
The beautiful part of NXT is that when one dream ends, another dream begins.
Find all of your NXT news, recaps and analysis right here. So
with that being said, we only have one question for you. Are we
thought? So let's get the show started right now. All right, guys,
this is Memphis Mart coming to you for a review of one sixteen of
the NXT show Getting Ready for Vengeance Day. Now. I've taped this whole
show and it was a fantastic show, just freaking fantastic. But we're having
Blizzard twenty four here through the South, and somehow that recording got screwed up.
I don't know how, don't know how, but it did. So
we're going to try this again. And they come out with the first match,
which is a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic qualifying match where you got Trick
and Mellow, you know, kind of not on the same page there.
And even when they come out, their music is mixed. Like the crowd
when they hear whooped that Trick of course is all happy. But when Mellow's
music goes on, everybody's so and Mellow of course is noticing these things.
But wow, we come out with Nofie and Blade and and Nofi is wearing
the polka dots and in tribute to mister Dusty Rhodes, which I still say,
that's a travesty what Vince McMahon did to Dusty when he finally got him
in the WWE. He puts them in polka dots. Yeah, maybe comes
back to get him, you know. But yeah, the match is pretty
good. Trick is every week is surprising me on his advancement and how good
he's getting. So yeah. And then o Fie and Blade they do an
over the top move where the you know, Trick and Mellow is thrown outside
on each side, and I believe it's Blade that jumps over the top rope,
hits Trick on one side and then goes around on the other side,
jumps over the top rope and does a D D T right before they get
to the desk tight area. Good move looks great, a good match,
a really good match. But they're pushing Trick and Mellow here because they got
an angle at an angle and uh yeah, so that's who's gonna win this
match, is Trick and Mellow and they go from there. They got a
quick little promo with Valen Henry about the Lady's twenty person battle roll, and
uh, they do a quick little promo with Dragon Lee and what happened with
him in the North American Championship, losing it like he did to Obo Femi,
and with Alexis King of course in there too. Uh. Then yeah,
we've got a quick little promo with a Lil Lavie and Electra Lopez and
uh, of course you got Tatum coming everywhere. So yeah, yeah,
uh they actually get Omas I mean, I'm sorry, ob U and uh
yeah, he's out there and he's, you know, doing pretty good on
the stick. To tell you the truth, says he's a war lee,
a Jerian war leader, and he's been tested a d one athlete, you
know. But the crowd starts doing a Daniel Brian Danielson or a Stone code
what they're doing or whatever it was. And every time he makes a statement,
and of course he tries not to break character, but it's hard.
And then you got Dragon Laid coming out, standing up to his belly.
But I mean, you know, coming up to him and doing an open
challenge. Yes, now, Oba announces that the open challenges are gone,
but but I'm considered. So we go from there, and we've got Eddie
Thorpe in the locker room with some Rooks and Hank and TYNK and they're just
around giving Eddie his flowers, and Trey bar Hill comes in, another Native
American wrestler, and comes in and says, we'll so and of course if
you get some people like that together in the room, you got to have
die Jack. So die Jack comes in and of course he is mad,
and uh and uh and pretty much we know we're gonna match coming up.
H then you're gonna have a tag team match. They bring out Lyra Bakurra,
that lady's champ. She comes out and does her regular opening and everything,
you know, with the the things on her shoulders there or whatever.
And here comes Tatum with the same get up. So yeah, pretty good.
But before the match they do a little promo where Trick and Mellow or
in the drag or in the locker room, and here comes dragging off and
uh he lets Trick know that, hey, you know, I wasn't medically
cleared to do the last match, so I am now and you will get
your shot at Vengeance Day, which of course Drik is real happy about.
But now mellows like, yeah, well woman, we're going for this the
stusty Rhodes Cup, and uh, you know, and uh it shows a
little a little more of a separation between the two, but they're gonna go
from there. And you got Lyra and Tatum are going against uh miss Lopez
and uh and a little of ice and uh, you know, they're gonna
have a pretty good match because Larra can definitely go, Tatum can go,
and uh and so can uh uh Lola and Electra. So a pretty good
little match. Let's see here, I'm trying to get to where we are.
Uh let's see all right, Yeah, pretty good little match. It's
just that I keep getting a distracted. Tatum looks like, uh, you
know, like the Ladies champ, and she's doing the same moves, and
it's just a yeah. I guess they say flattery is the you know,
the best or the most sincere compliment there, So yeah, I guess she's
given her a compliment. But uh uh Lola of course is going to do
her dance moves and uh and and the matches, like I said, was
pretty good. But there again, they are pushing you know, the ladies
Champ and uh and Tatum. So they are going to win this match.
Now afterwards, you know, they've really been pushing this Arianna Grace and uh,
they've got her in the locker room and she starts into a past kind
of acceptance speech where she's saying how she's willing to win the battle wrong.
And she does pretty good on her interviews and uh, you know, not
so bad. It's not so bad on that one. But yeah, now
we've got the build up here where they're really pushing. I believe they're getting
ready to really push Rich Holland. And he's got the look. He's got
everything you could ask for. I've been getting better and better in the ring.
I guess a little stuff still. But he's going against Mark Coffee of
Gallus uh and you know he can work. He can work, so and
this is not going to be a squash match. They're not going to do
that to Mark Coffee. So the match is really pretty good, really pretty
good. The Gallas brothers don't really get involved. I mean it's a good
solid match by Mark Coffee and uh, you know in the end, Ridge
because he's getting that push it's gonna hit him with some monster clotheslines, I
mean monster jblworth Worthy clothes lines and get the pen. But like I said,
Mark Coffee looked really good. I'm sorry I kept saying Mark Coffee.
It's Joe Coffee. Man can't edit this out. So yeah, Joe Coffee,
you know, the damn Coffee brothers, because they're good to the last
drop according to Booker T. But yeah, the match is good, solid
match. You know, the Coffee does definitely have to carry the maxim but
in the end they're gonna have to let Ridge win. So that's just the
way that goes. But afterwards you've got gallous and they're not happy about the
loss. So they whooped the craft out of Ridge and they keep looking for
somebody to come help Ridge, but no one does. Ridge is on his
own. He's on an island. Now the angle has begun. So yeah,
that's what we've got. And then they go from there to a creepy
innex t anonymous ex post exes used to be Twitter uh and uh yeah,
Jacy Jane is is, you know, planning and talking about past accomplishments and
explaining some things to some of the ladies that were helping them, so kind
of creepy that they got somebody spine on the ladies back there. But yeah,
Ja c Jane is creating her own a little Inharnthia or creating their own
little knicks there. Then you got Key Lana Jordan doing a little promo and
you know, not so bad, not so bad on the stick, but
not as good as we have with Baron and Braun. The Baron and Braun
show. Yeah, I think Baron was told Braun the wrong time, and
of course Braun shows up and they always threatened a math quiz with a Steiner.
It's an old Scott Steiner joke. But they pretty good little interview,
kind of amusing, you know, the characterisms between the two. So who
knows a budding tag team? I think to not. But Braun did say
that he was thinking about Baron in the shower, so yeah, and he
had a name for the the tag team. I think he called it wolf
Dogs, and Baron didn't like it, and then it was a Wild Wars
and Baron didn't like it, and they agreed on a holes. Okay,
uh, now we're going into another Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament match qualifying
match. We've got Chase ud Dukes and the m v P in Riley Osbourne,
the high flying, good looking young kid they're bringing on that has thea's
going against l w O with all the teamwork and everything. So yeah,
then you know what you're gonna get out of this match. You're gonna have
a lot of flying. But with this Riley Osbourne kid, you know,
they they're really pushing him good. So he got some good time. It
looked good, you know, he sold good. I mean kind of surprising.
You know. The timing was a little off with l w a little
bit. Uh it could have been chased, you though, it could have
been Duke oh Dike may have been a little slow this week. But yeah,
pretty good match. You know. L w O does get the win
though, so they'll be squashed next I mean, they'll be wrestling next week
and uh yeah, but a pretty good match, pretty good match. And
then we're gonna go to Tony D and Stacks and Adriana because it's her first
time being in the ring. And they kind of, you know, kind
of comical with their little promo, you know, because they keep saying that
you remember when you beat up you know whatever, and she goes, yeah,
but she deserved it, and then it's always she deserved it, and
they said, just make everyone in there look like they deserve it, and
uh so yeah, little bridge talk, you know, kind of funny.
Uh, we have our weekly Joe Gasey sighting and Joe Joe is in a
suit anchorman style ready to help with the next match. So Gaysey's becoming a
fan favorite. Uh you got a quick little promo because you've got Von Wagner
sighting. No m darn mensa are trying to explain the Cup rules to Von
Wagner and mister Stone and he wants a match. But no Am of course
is playing a little koi and trying to make a kind of a reference that
Von Wagner may not be the smartest guy, but Von may be playing him.
So we'll see where that goes in the future. But we've got our
match now with Joe Gacy on the MinC. You got Jack versus Trey bear
Hill. Okay, and bear Hill coming out. It's no Eddie Thorpe entrance,
but he does his best and this match is pretty good. You know,
bear Hill is definitely needing some ring time and everything, but you know,
Dijack gets some big kicks and and everything. But at one point in
time, Dieject goes over by the desk and makes a reference to the Ankerman
there Joe Gacy, which Joe plants a forehead on his forehead, a little
head but there, and you think that, you know, bear Hill is
gonna win, but nope, nope. But they did make it look pretty
good. But you know, Dijack gets a spin kick in and wins the
match. So yeah, but after the match, you know, you've got
Lexus King coming out because you know they've been having a little few bear Hill
and King kind of in the back side of things, and uh so yeah,
and then Gaysey jumps on dog Jack. So you know, I didn't
like the ending of the match, but uh the finish, the finish wasn't
so bad. It wasn't so bad. Uh. And then we have a
J. B. L sighting the wrestling gord. Yeah, Bradshaw runs into
Briggs and gives him a little advice there, you know, a little big
man advice and told him that's why he picked him. Uh so, uh
yeah, not so bad. Uh, not so bad. And then after
that we're going into the to the battle rule. But we had this uh
this no Quarter Catch Crew. Uh. They do a little promo and and
pretty much they're saying that they negotiated their contracts to where you know, they
can have like kind of like those Freebirds. You know, when the Freebirds
showed up, there were three guys. You never knew which two out of
the three they were the Freebird rules. Well, I guess they're kind of
reinventing that. I guess with the Quarter Catch Crew, I don't know,
but according to them, when they show up, you don't know which two
or I guess three need depending or one which one is going to actually wrestle
in the match. And yeah, so they and then right then you kind
of know something's up when they bring the first people out for the announcing of
the battle. Role in the first area is the Dame with of course Miskill
James with probably the best entrance right now on NXT, Love the Love the
helicopter coming in in the strut. She does afterwards, for sure, but
is he Dame? I did not realize how big she was, how tall
she was, I just until this match happened. I just did not I
guess I hadn't paid attention, you know, you know, but she is
a rather tall young lady, so may be very good in the future for
her. And we have an injury, got an injury report, Cora Jade,
and you know, she just come back off an injury. So I
don't know what this whole deal was, but they actually said that, yeah,
they had a replacement for and she ended up being a little bit you
know, you know, making a little bit of an impact too, so
you know, not so bad. So let me see, let's get the
notes ready for this battle roll, the twenty lady battle roll with the ending
going into a fatal four way. Now in a battle role, you know,
a lot of times it's a good way to get all the wrestlers out
there and get them some airtime. But it can be pretty boring. You
wouldn't think that with all the people in the ring, but yeah, it
can be pretty boring. I've been to a few. Usually when you had
a one with Andre the Giant in it, you know, back in the
old days, because you just couldn't get Andre over the top, and it
would take four or five people if they didn't want Andre to win it,
it would have to be like four or five, maybe six people getting Andre
over that top broke and even so you can go back to some other Royal
warriors were like a big John stud back in the day, you know,
or Mongolian stomper if you want to go old. So these guys were just
just everything. It took everything out of everybody to get them over because of
their size, and it looked good when they were trying. So but in
this particular, the ladies battle roll we have, you know, pretty good.
We have a bunch of little inlining, uh you know, spots in
there that that kind of make it interesting. So I can't I can't say
anything too bad on this, uh. I mean they they let a few
storylines come up which I thought were great. Well, you had something like
you had easy and Lash legend putting a couple of ladies out there and they
are both now Lash an ex WNBA player, so Izy was close to her
height. You know, at last she's been looking great. I don't know
when they're going to finally give her her own push. But in this one,
let me see, you had miss Jackson was the first out. You
had Blair Davenport being the last in Blair and you know they even had a
koffe moment. If you go back Kofe wanted Kofi Kingston's biggest thing is he
was in a battle role and was thrown to the floor and he never hit
the floor and he was able to go around the arena and jump back in.
Well, Miss Jordan did her version of the of the Kofee Kingston.
I didn't hit the floor, and it looked pretty good, you know,
I mean, I got to say it looked pretty good. Of course she's
gonna get thrown out a little bit later, but it looked pretty good.
And then you had Lola Vice on the outside apron after being thrown over,
and who knocks her off but hm, Electro Lopez and even does the dance
Lola's dance after she throws her out. But then the very next person eliminated
is Electra Lopez. So we got a little fighting on the floor. We
got some flighting, fighting fighting going on out there, and yeah, so
it was not so bad. You got towards the Fatal four way. You're
gonna end up with Miss Jordan roxand of course the Prodigy Valin and Keana James.
So that is the way the Fatal four way ends up, and it's
pretty good. You know it's it's pretty good, but it seemed like on
this show they just had some bad ends. The match was good, just
kind of you know, I mean, Jordan looked good. She really surprised
me, you know, so you know I was, I was pleasantly surprised
on that end. Actually I didn't think she had that long of a time.
I mean, we did have the good THEA did get to throw Ariana
Grace over the top rope, so that was kind of kind of good.
That was thea's highlight of the night. So yeah, and then during the
you know, the fatal fool way, as I said, it was pretty
good. Keana almost gets knocked off yet I mean it's just uh, several
things that surprised me towards the end. But Lash going over like she did
kind of surprise me, you know for sure, and uh you thought Valid
at one time was going to pull this off, but Miss James takes her
completely out of the whole thing, and then it looks like COUNTA James is
gonna pull it out. Uh you know, she takes out Rock sand big.
I mean, everything's set up, but of course now you've got the
ladies all going at it full speed and uh, you you're gonna have a
winner, and uh you know that's just the way. It just doesn't end
like I thought it should. You know, I don't know. I mean,
you know, you got all your close calls. But the winner,
of course, it's going to be Rock Sand the Prodigy. Uh you know,
Uh okay, no sense of crying over sp oak milk. She wins
the tournament. Like I said, pretty good tournament, just not happy with
the Papa Rocks. Then of course Lyra comes out and with the belt and
they have their little stare off. So yeah, that's pretty much. That's
pretty much the way it's gonna go, folks. You know, a couple
of bad innings, but they covered a couple of them up. Everything but
the battle roll they covered up with a good finish. So anyway, all
right, guys, I guess we're going to be done here. As I
said, I apologize for the late show, but I don't know what happened,
but here we go. We retaped it, we recent it out,
so I hope you enjoyed. We had another show come out this week.
I did one with Maintenance Maverick and the God now Michael Gross. So check
it out if you get a chance. It's Mullet Manners Wrestling Memoirs, So
go check that out, guys, and while we'll be back next week of
course. So if you're going through this arctic blast, everything it's about done.
So guys, just just pull through. We just got a few more
days. And if it's a regular weather for you, man, it sucks
where you are because this snow and this Memphis, Tennessee was colder than Anchorage,
Alaska last night. So not a record that I want to keep having.
So anyway, guys, this is Memphis Mark, and if you can
get out there and help some shelters out because of this time of the year,
the holidays are done and you know, all that volunteering and joyful cheer
is gone. So help these guys out and spay and neuter, and this
is Memphis Mark and them out. Thanks for listening to the WWE podcast.
