Breaking Down The Braves' Schedule Mess After Wet Wednesday

I was really hoping we were going to get another baseball game tonight with Chris Sale on the mound, especially after such an enjoyable opener to the series on Tuesday. But I think it's kind of everybody suspected today's game just never had a chance of being played, Tomorrow's game never really had a chance of being played, And now with just a couple of days left in the regular season, plus the potential now for a Monday maybe double header, things are very very interesting for a plethora of reasons.

Speaker 1: We did cover the game on Tuesday, which is why Scott and I were not going to go deep into that game now, because we already did on this podcast. But a good boy to start there. Scott is kind of talk about like where things are at this stage the Brives to win the opener on Tuesday. I mean, you and I haven't talked since then. We don't have to break down the game, but the arkitecessus last night was basically like, hey, the job's not done. But that was a necessary step one for the Braves. Obviously, a huge game, the biggest leverage spot of the season, so to speak, and they went out and won it, which kind of was nice, especially not knowing what was going to happen.

Speaker 2: Game depthsit, it would be pretty pretty gross. Yeah, I mean, it was huge to win the opener last night, and I mean, in some ways it felt like the season maybe hung in the balance, And maybe that's a little hyperbole to say, but overall, I'm not sure. I mean, it was a huge game for a variety of reasons. Obviously, when you only have six baseball games left in the season and the race is as close as it is, every single game counts. It also gave the Braves a at least in the moment, a six' five tiebreaker, edge which is the regular season record between two. Clubs so should this come down to a, tie and frankly it may come down to a. Tie The braves would have the tiebreaker in that, situation assuming there's not two games to be played On monday and we're GONNA i, mean we could literally talk for probably two hours about all of the contingencies and just chaos that could come in the next ninety six plus. Hours but to answer your, question it was a massive win for The. Braves they played really well in all three. Phases defense was, awesome the pitching From schwellenbach in particular was. Awesome The bats had a couple of big. Hits it was very much an enjoyable game and thank god The braves found a way to Win game, one otherwise it would have been with the rain added on a very very painful couple of.

Off it was very strange those things. Happened The mets could have done, that they chose not. To it's supposed to be a two game series and it became a three game, series Which i'm glad WHY i should, Say i'm GLAD i understand why The braves would naked back and just be, like, hey by the, way remind them of, this because it's not only us that's in because you, know the games In, atlanta the focus is obviously going to be On atlanta when the game is In. Atlanta we all kind of understand. That but that was a non that was a non trivial. INCLUSION i would, say.

Decades, YEAH i, mean, okay in a perfect, world well a perfect, world it would have been seventy degrees and not a cloud in the sky for all three of these, games and The braves would have swept and we'd be popping the champagne because they made the playoffs that didn't. Happen and you can't control the, weather you can't control the. Rain AND i, know seemingly all of the talk for the last twelve hours as, well why didn't The braves move the? Game why didn't they relocate the series to one of the? Domes all of those. Things there are so many layers to rescheduling and moving a baseball game like, that a Major league baseball, Game AND i, Tweeted it's not like you move a high school football game On friday night because one of the fields got vandalized and you just call up the athletic director down the street and, say, hey let's use your. Field there's so much that goes into, this and you, know from everything from money to, logistics to, travel to support staff and. Security this is hardly a let's figure it out in five minute. Situation and of course The braves are going to be made out to look like the bad guys because they're the ones hosting the. SERIES i would be inclined to ask if if these three games were In New york and a hurricane was, coming would The mets have foregone fifteen million dollars in gate. Revenue would they have moved the series To philadelphia just for? KICKS i, mean come, on it's it was very. MUCH i, mean it kind of felt like high school bickering to, me the way that maybe the teams were using the media to kind of point.

Whatever they had power and they didn't exercise. It SO i am not above taking shots at The commission's. Office they are very bad sometimes at like foresight and being proactive and instead of. Reactive that is all, fair and, LOOK i will say The braves are. Blameless i'm not gonna come on here and be, LIKE i know The braves acted. PERFECTLY i don't know number, one what happened behind the. Scenes we don't know. That BUT i do know that The commission's office could have could have overruled The, braves even if the brains were being finicky or. Whatever manfrey could have been, like you know, what, guys we're Playing, monday or we're playing at ten am On. Wednesday that was one of the ones THAT i, hated, honestly was like one of the play at nine am this. Morning i'm, like, well because they don't play basebat nine.

Back, basically both games are if. Necessary at this point in, time no one has said that explicitly from The commission's, office like right now it seems Like commisier's office has the authority to just, say don't play these. Games they have not said that they're not going to play them if they're, Irrelevant but we'll come back to. That it's an early. Start it's a one to ten start for game, one followed by forty minutes after for game. Two and going back to That Joel sherman, piece he REPORTED i think On, twitter even if The diamondbacks are, eliminated which would which would be, hard but it could happen if they were eliminated By monday and The braves And mets have not settled their seating, yet it will be at the commissioner's discretion whether to Play, monday explicitly for. Seeding, basically there is a scenario where The diamondbacks just flop the rest of the. Week you, know they have they have four more, games four more, games and if they go on four, plausible not, likely but, plausible then maybe this is all. Moot and then we have this separate argument, Essentially braves And, Mets, okay do we play these games or? Not and maybe that comes down to whether The braves And mets are.

Crazy so there is so much uncertainty at this. POINT i, think really all we know is That philadelphia is locked into one of the top two seeds and basically nothing else is decided other Than San, Diego la And milwaukee are all guaranteed playoff. Spots but for these final two wild card spots and the balance of The National League, west we just don't. Know and it's going to be very day by. DAY i tweeted out like a mini rooting guide for The braves the next couple of. Days we are obviously rooting against The, mets and we're rooting against The. Diamondbacks But, brad there might also be a scenario where The, braves and this would be a far fetch, scenario but there might be a scenario where The braves are actually rooting for The mets On, sunday depending on what The. Diamondbacks it is going to be, chaos AND i, mean it sucks that we're even at this point with all the, weather but it's also kind of fun at least. ME i was like nerding out looking at the schedules and kind of the the situations and what means what it is going to be a crazy weekend For Major League baseball and maybe even Into.

Huge so if they don't play, again which is, possible The braids have the edge head to head if they. Tie The braves also have the edge over The diamondbacks in, tidebreaker which we've been talking about for a. While people were kind of ignoring it and making It braves Marks mets like a week, ago and we were, like, hey, guys don't forget about The diamondmacs and The braids have that advantage which is huge and looking even more likely that it might matter than it was. Before so that's kind of WHY i actually had somebody replied to me in A dm TODAY i kind of tweeted out The braves playoff odds by some of the sports, books some of the fangrass, projections et. Cetera and it's they're pretty. High they'll like give a sixty or seventy year, range and somebody that's, like why would that, Be i'm, like, well because they have the tiebreaker that when you get down to the last five games of the year or four games The diamondbacks, case if you have the tiebreaker edge on both, teams that's like a ten percent, bump if not, more because there are lots of scenarios where you tie these. Teams of, course now it's like really convoluted and basically you have to throw any projected system Because monday's game is like a total breaker of all. Math but, uh it's not of small. Things scott AND i feel like we have to like just keep saying it over and over. Again The Brave mets thing is even. Weirder but even The diamondbacks, like, hey that's that one's side field. Delivered if they, tie they tie and Go. Braves, yeah you know it's again chaos is the.

Arizona The mets could play that game but have literally nothing to play for at that, point and right and throw a bullpen game and Sent Pete alonzo And lindor who has the back the back.

Win, yep they could go out there and not play anybody and Throw Dais Bill hernandez for three innings and do whatever they got to. Do so it's it could be as much as it could be really fun for a not for, us because, look if it Matters, monday we're going to be, angsty to be, sure but for a neutral baseball, observer it could be either incredibly awesome and entertaining On, monday or it could be a total. Farce and like that's kind of. Weird like this whole situation is very weird with that that that little wrinkle and the potential that The braves can you, know be rooting for against The mets based on what's going, on and then you get you could get to a situation where one team is trying that one's not trying as hard On. Monday it's like it's so.

UP i mean if if The, brave like let's hypothetically, say if The mets win game, one it means The braves are the sixth seed and The mets are the, five or vice, versa but it means they don't have to play game one sixty two all day, long, whatever like whatever we need to.

Day that is the looming factor above all of this is That number, one it might be you have to travel To San, diego but even if It's, milwaukee like that's that's not down the street and it's the next. Games if you have to play a doubleheader and use your entire pitching staff to navigate a winner go home double header On, monday and then turn around and play On. Much if they had a day off in, between it would suck to play, doubleheader but it would not nearly be the consternation that it is right. Now it's because they have to literally, play and there's no flexibility. There Apparently baseball as basically, said that's not moving like they're playing On. Tuesday, whoever whoever gets since playing On tuesday wherever they have to, go no. Flexibility so if they play a double, header it's, like, man is there anybody gonna be able to pitch On, tuesday like the Breath braves Or mets if they have to, play even if they win comfortably semi, Comfortably And i'm using that in inquisition. Marks let's say The braves sweep a doubleheader On monday against The. Mets we all. Celebrate they're gonna have to use every single avaiable pitcher to do, that almost, Certainly, yeah and then you go Into tuesday as an underdog against anybody because you don't have the.

Arizona both of those teams own the tiebreaker Over. Arizona The braves won the series outright and The mets And diamondbacks split three to. Three but then it goes To Inner division record and The mets have the edge. There so, again it could be very. Weird IF i had to bet, Today brad very officially eight Pm eastern On, Wednesday i'm going to wager that game two is not needed On. Monday it may not necessarily be a good thing for The. Braves it might mean if they don't have a good weekend Against Kansas, city they it may not even come to, That but, Regardless i'm gonna guess that they only have to play one On, monday which is not ideal by any. Means but it's not having to go eighteen innings of kind of balls to the wall all. Out use everybody like it's a game.

Things so provided they get To, atlanta the forecast looks. Okay and if, it even if it doesn't, happen they can get in a double header On. Saturday it looks pretty good over the. Weekend so these games should those three games should, happen The roles could clench a wildcard spot as soon As, thursday so that is potentially helpful for The. Braves they're playing The. Nationals The nationals have been a foreign on The brave side this, year but they're not as good as The. Royals theres have been stumbling a little bit down the. Stretch we should at least acknowledge. That but if they take care of, business you might have a hangover game at some. Point you might have a team, that even beyond a hangover, game is not necessarily quite as motivated as they typically would be because they won't they won't have much to play for because they're not if they get in the, wildcard their division race is over in The. Central once they get, in they're just laying up for the, playoffs which could be a, big big factor towards the Lab, yeah.
