<v Speaker 4>I'm pretty positive ninety percent sure that, like I discovered
<v Speaker 4>ww period because of these figures going to Toys r
<v Speaker 4>US seeing on the shelves. There's this weird narrative and
<v Speaker 4>maybe it is true, not in New York where I
<v Speaker 4>grew up, like that these were hard to come by
<v Speaker 4>because I remember going to Toys r US singles two
<v Speaker 4>packs always there.
<v Speaker 1>And me going like, what who are these guys? What's this?
<v Speaker 1>Blah blah?
<v Speaker 4>And then I find ww on Saturday mornings and Saturday nights,
<v Speaker 4>and you know, and then eventually, you know, we'll talk
<v Speaker 4>about later in the show, like there's a lot of
<v Speaker 4>crossover here, like how many guys have gloobs that also
<v Speaker 4>have Hasbro's you know what I mean? You could kind
<v Speaker 4>of when they jumped to WWF or vice versa, you
<v Speaker 4>could beat them to market. You know, Rick Flair comes,
<v Speaker 4>you already got a globe ready to go into your
<v Speaker 4>your Hasbro fig fed. So that was like the real
<v Speaker 4>exciting aspect of these that they were all in scale
<v Speaker 4>with your you know, already flourishing w.
<v Speaker 1>F Hasbro collection.
<v Speaker 4>So it was literally the way I discovered that there
<v Speaker 4>was a secondary promotion in America that was on television
<v Speaker 4>and had product like this.
<v Speaker 1>So that's how I discovered it all. I was so young.
<v Speaker 1>I don't remember what came first, the figures of me
<v Speaker 1>seeing them on TV. But I had them all, and
<v Speaker 1>like you said, Brian, I remember them being plentiful in
<v Speaker 1>the stores. Pillman was hard to find for me, Brian,
<v Speaker 1>Pillman was hard to find for me, But I eventually
<v Speaker 1>got them and I had them all.
<v Speaker 3>So you're getting these like in nineteen ninety two.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, I had these as a kid.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, without a doubt. I have vivid memories of
<v Speaker 4>them being on the shelves, especially at Toys r US,
<v Speaker 4>especially the two packs. And I want to say every
<v Speaker 4>the ones that I obtained, and I had the original,
<v Speaker 4>you know, American twelve, and I think I got them
<v Speaker 4>all via two packs.
<v Speaker 1>Really can't. Yeah, maybe Sting and Luga were like separate,
<v Speaker 1>but see, I don't even remember the two packs. I
<v Speaker 1>remember getting mine, at least seeing them at Kitty City.
<v Speaker 1>I don't recall when I got them or where I
<v Speaker 1>but I got them all, like I said, And you know,
<v Speaker 1>I was a big WCW fan. Of course w WF
<v Speaker 1>was my number one, but I loved it was something
<v Speaker 1>different and I loved like I remember It's It's War
<v Speaker 1>Games ninety one where Sid and he ate power bombs
<v Speaker 1>Brian Pillman and he gets caught on the top of
<v Speaker 1>the cage, Like I remember stuff like that, right.
<v Speaker 3>And you were watching the same thing, Brian, or you
<v Speaker 3>don't know, you just had the.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, I was very It's funny because I grew
<v Speaker 4>up really appreciating Brian Pillman became one of my favorit wrestlers.
<v Speaker 4>But when I was five and discover the guy, the
<v Speaker 4>simplicity of that we had the same name, Brian was
<v Speaker 4>like flying Brian, that's so cool. I was like, he
<v Speaker 4>was my favorite, and that was like, in my memory,
<v Speaker 4>the first one I got, So I don't remember having
<v Speaker 4>trouble finding him because he was the one I wanted
<v Speaker 4>the most and I got him like from jump in
<v Speaker 4>my mind.
<v Speaker 1>At least, my number one was Sting. I even had
<v Speaker 1>Sting come to my birthday party. Mark and you both
<v Speaker 1>the picture if you're looking it might not look like
<v Speaker 1>Sting because that's my dad's friend, Kenny Theston from the gym,
<v Speaker 1>and he got a baby powder in his hair.
<v Speaker 4>You were then to look a look at you like
<v Speaker 4>crushing that buddy with that that that's which is not
<v Speaker 4>a glue product.
<v Speaker 1>But look at those cars that you could tell that's
<v Speaker 1>early nineties. Oh my god, god, oh my god.

<v Speaker 4>But Kenny all kidding aside, that is a testament to

<v Speaker 4>would have a Sting impersonator come to your fifth or
<v Speaker 4>sixth birthday party like that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, w W is a big deal.
<v Speaker 3>I've heard this story before, and when Broski sent me
<v Speaker 3>this text, I literally in my head wasn't even thinking.
<v Speaker 3>I thought of myself, Oh yes, Brosky met Sting when
<v Speaker 3>he was little. I was. I just briefly looked at it.
<v Speaker 1>Well, that that guy actually Kenny Theston. He's done a
<v Speaker 1>lot of w CW work as Sting. If you look
<v Speaker 1>at some w c as in the early nineties, it's
<v Speaker 1>Kenny east A dressed his sting. Oh my god, we

<v Speaker 1>Mark were you You were actively collecting these in college?
<v Speaker 3>Well a couple of years ago, I think during the pandemic.
<v Speaker 3>I got my hands on on this and.
<v Speaker 4>I bought that for you as a gift to Toyhio.

<v Speaker 3>I knew that. I knew that you got me one
<v Speaker 3>of these because I have the UK one and I
<v Speaker 3>just wasn't sure which one you got me.

<v Speaker 3>I was staring at this picture of Rick Flair and
<v Speaker 3>I realized that's how I first saw Rick Flair in
<v Speaker 3>a toy asle. What like in a toy asle, just
<v Speaker 3>who is this guy? Who is this older guy on
<v Speaker 3>these toys? Know, I didn't know what WCWS was until
<v Speaker 3>ninety five, probably, so I didn't see any of that stuff.
<v Speaker 3>I didn't even really know it existed, so maybe it
<v Speaker 3>was earlier. It must have been earlier because I was
<v Speaker 3>watching Rick Flair in the WWF, But the first time
<v Speaker 3>I saw Ric Flair was in a toy aisle on
<v Speaker 3>a Globe Action figure set, So that's the first time
<v Speaker 3>I was introduced. Now, as far as the Glube line goes,
<v Speaker 3>I didn't know it existed until me and Steve Negron
<v Speaker 3>we're playing our fig feds and it was it was
<v Speaker 3>later on. It was probably ninety five when we started.
<v Speaker 3>So we would see these in hobby shops. There was
<v Speaker 3>a in the Holy Oak Mall. There was a small
<v Speaker 3>collectible store and in the glass case they would occasionally
<v Speaker 3>have a Hasbro like that's where we got our Dusty Roads.
<v Speaker 3>It was five dollars loose.
<v Speaker 1>I would say, Lucy right, loose.
<v Speaker 3>Gloops, And I remember seeing the loose Rick Flair and
<v Speaker 3>arn Anderson and I was, you know, really interested in
<v Speaker 3>wrestling ninety five ninety six or whatever and being like,
<v Speaker 3>holy shit, bro, we can get these and use these
<v Speaker 3>in our fig fit. So that was the first time
<v Speaker 3>I was sort of like really paying attention to this
<v Speaker 3>as a line. And then Obviously, the Internet existed a
<v Speaker 3>little bit, so you could you could do some research
<v Speaker 3>on what existed. But I didn't even know about the
<v Speaker 3>UK stuff until we started doing this podcast.
<v Speaker 1>We'll talk about that. I might have been like in
<v Speaker 1>the WWE when I learned of that.
<v Speaker 3>Right, yea.
<v Speaker 1>But a little history lesson on the WCW figures from Galub. So.
<v Speaker 1>Glub was a company, if you watch toys that made
<v Speaker 1>us Jewish lightning. Robbie Kanoff he was a big wrestling fan,
<v Speaker 1>and you know, he convinced Glob to go after you know,
<v Speaker 1>the the WWF at the time because Tube had figures,
<v Speaker 1>I don't want to call them bootlegs, but cheap stuff
<v Speaker 1>that other companies were also making. Eventually they got the Smurfs,
<v Speaker 1>the A team. They thought, Okay, we need to be big,
<v Speaker 1>we need to be mainstream, we need WWF. They went
<v Speaker 1>to Vince McMahon, who already had an offer from Remco. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>so then Galube beats that offer, but in comes LJN
<v Speaker 1>and blows them ball out of.
<v Speaker 3>The waterhould have been ninety four, by the way, eighty four.
<v Speaker 4>But they basically stooged themselves to a universal that was
<v Speaker 4>acquiring LJN and they like blew them out of the
<v Speaker 4>water with the offer and that was it. But yeah,
<v Speaker 4>Robbie came off spearhead at all because he was such
<v Speaker 4>a wrestling fan, and that goes on throughout the years,
<v Speaker 4>right because he you know, launches Simpsons toymakers and gets
<v Speaker 4>w C again and.
<v Speaker 1>Then eventually ECW you know, so then you know, once WWF,
<v Speaker 1>you know, LJN lose the license, it goes to goes
<v Speaker 1>to Hasbro. WCW is a thing now and Glube's like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>let's go after these guys. And they do, they quickly do.
<v Speaker 1>And that's why that's been said. Why they're you know,
<v Speaker 1>the PBC material, no articulation, just because they signed the deal.
<v Speaker 1>They had to get them a.
<v Speaker 4>Market quick, which is a kind of animal and I
<v Speaker 4>guess not at the time, not you know, desirable, but
<v Speaker 4>like we were kind of alluding to when we start
<v Speaker 4>to show that they're the sculpting is exceptional on these
<v Speaker 4>They're like little works of art. And I think maybe
<v Speaker 4>as a kid, you probably weren't appreciating. I think you
<v Speaker 4>were probably appreciating the scale, you know, intertwining with your
<v Speaker 4>Hasbro stuff, but I think as an adult collector you
<v Speaker 4>look back at these and are like, oh my god,
<v Speaker 4>some of these are like wonderful, like really really well done.
<v Speaker 4>As a kid, it didn't really bother me to be
<v Speaker 4>it did Yeah, right, I guess yeah, because I think
<v Speaker 4>they were still in dynamic enough poses where you could
<v Speaker 4>use your imagination and it's not like like the hasbros
<v Speaker 4>can move it the waste and they're a little bit
<v Speaker 4>but that's it, you know, like Mattel Ultimate Style with
<v Speaker 4>you know, endless options.
<v Speaker 1>You know, you're barely getting by as it is.
<v Speaker 4>And I think we're coming right off of l j
<v Speaker 4>NZ that had no articulation too, so it wasn't so
<v Speaker 4>out of the realm that these things, you know, don't move.
<v Speaker 3>Just like the fact that Flair has the hand that
<v Speaker 3>you could you could chop with, like even though it's
<v Speaker 3>not in the same direction or whatever, you.
<v Speaker 1>Could Definitely we'll talk about all the moves we do

<v Speaker 1>the figures. But the first sign of these glue figures
<v Speaker 1>were at the nineteen ninety one New York Toy Fair.
<v Speaker 1>Look at the Steiner brothers, Rick and Scott. Look at
<v Speaker 1>Scottie cut off shirt hardcore Japan.
<v Speaker 3>You'd see the pictures, I mean the figs and even
<v Speaker 3>the big guys hang hanging up in the back there.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, back there in the box, I can see, yep.
<v Speaker 1>I like that. They showed up toy Fair with the
<v Speaker 1>straps the United States Tax Team Championship's pretty cool. If
<v Speaker 1>you see major at toy Fair this year dressed up
<v Speaker 1>in gear with some straps. We may have took it
<v Speaker 1>from uh this photo shoot right here there you go,
<v Speaker 1>But there are the Steiners right there, Rick and Scott
<v Speaker 1>classic tag team. There they are holding up the figures,
<v Speaker 1>looking proud, looking hungover. Look at he had a he
<v Speaker 1>was partying Tye Square that had pour. Wow.
<v Speaker 3>What is that blow up doll of sting there in
<v Speaker 3>the back?
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, what is that creepy thing? I don't know,

<v Speaker 3>Like hey, you know, we'd like to carry ten thousand
<v Speaker 3>of these figures in our stores across the country. That
<v Speaker 3>kind of shit, and then Luger walks in oiled up.
<v Speaker 3>It's just so insane to think about rules.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean Lex Luger, the tallt all package to me,
<v Speaker 1>Luger sting flair like that was WCW at this era.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, I I believe I started watching WCW
<v Speaker 1>when it is WCW because there's a weird like transition
<v Speaker 1>NWA ANDWCW. Then it's like just WCW memories of seeing that. Yeah,

<v Speaker 1>figures do have the NWA on the package. Speaking of figures,

<v Speaker 1>so confusing. WCWNWA is like Jesus Christ, just drop one

<v Speaker 4>smart Mark Sterling figure that says a real Killer with

<v Speaker 1>of added value in terms we've learned later on. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I see this Bruskie right now. When you
<v Speaker 1>display your loose gloub collection, do you have belts on
<v Speaker 1>every guy on all series one. Yes, wow, yes, you
<v Speaker 1>don't know. Really, I have a big baggie of all
<v Speaker 1>the belt I have all I have all.
<v Speaker 4>The belts, but I don't keep them in a bag,

<v Speaker 4>before we go any further, because it's going to just

<v Speaker 4>certain things. And then a couple of years ago we
<v Speaker 4>finally surface some reference shots of what the talent took.

<v Speaker 4>the super toy fan, you know, eyes and realize that,
<v Speaker 4>you know, sometimes these people it's just a job. So
<v Speaker 4>they're just getting reference shots, and they don't know everything
<v Speaker 4>about Rick Flair. They don't know that he's, you know,
<v Speaker 4>the Superstar World Champion, right They're just taking the photo
<v Speaker 4>they're seeing and turning it into you know, a four
<v Speaker 4>and a half inch PVC figure.
<v Speaker 1>That's their job, right right. So and then on the.
<v Speaker 4>Flip side, sometimes these wrestlers are told they don't know
<v Speaker 4>everything about the toy business. They're told to take these
<v Speaker 4>photos and they just kind of, you know, do it lacksadaisical.
<v Speaker 1>You'll see it a little bit. I don't want to
<v Speaker 1>get too far ahead of herselves, but you'll see it
