<v Speaker 1>Yo, got me bad. It's the Internet. You're busy. Let's
<v Speaker 1>do this for December nineteenth, twenty twenty four. For the
<v Speaker 1>next hour or so, let me help you sort through
<v Speaker 1>the world of gaming. Game Mess Mornings Live with me
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grubb. Today more Nintendo Switched two leaks brings some
<v Speaker 1>potentially good news, and we must save Mariah Carey from
<v Speaker 1>her wintery prison. But first, please join me and welcome
<v Speaker 1>you today's co host the Game Mess Mornings. It's Jan
<v Speaker 1>A Choa, Jan. How are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>I am okay.
<v Speaker 3>I haven't had any cough drops today, but two days ago,
<v Speaker 3>after the BombCast, I was dying.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I uh was that just like losing the voice?
<v Speaker 1>Is that what the big thing was? I'm like, I
<v Speaker 1>thought I had a sore throat. It keeps kind of
<v Speaker 1>like beginning and then going away. I don't I don't
<v Speaker 1>know what's going on over here.
<v Speaker 2>It keeps going, it keeps going. We're okay.
<v Speaker 3>I realize perhaps when on a normal week, I'm used
<v Speaker 3>to sleeping at like ten.
<v Speaker 1>Or eleven, Uh huh.
<v Speaker 3>Adjusting that to a week of sleeping at four am, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>and then waking up two hours later may not be conducive.
<v Speaker 3>To your voice, especially when you have to yap a
<v Speaker 3>lot on a microphone and everything.
<v Speaker 2>So maybe maybe we're just catching up on sleep debt.
<v Speaker 1>Perhaps.
<v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, I do never want to see the JW again.
<v Speaker 1>I will be happy if we never hang out there again.
<v Speaker 1>If we never hang out there again, it'll be too soon.
<v Speaker 1>But I expect to be there within six months. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>for real. I slept through a giant explosion this morning.
<v Speaker 1>My wife woke up. My wife. There is a power
<v Speaker 1>plant not too far from where I live that is defunct.
<v Speaker 1>It has been kind of sitting there for years since
<v Speaker 1>we lived here, and this morning they finally did the
<v Speaker 1>final implosions on it. And boy, that implosion turned into
<v Speaker 1>an explosion. I don't know if it was supposed to,
<v Speaker 1>but I've seen the video of it, and it shook
<v Speaker 1>the entire area. It was massive, and we're a couple
<v Speaker 1>miles away. And it woke up Steph this morning at
<v Speaker 1>about five am. It was pretty wild stuff. Yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>should push the video of it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I feel like you'd be first in line to
<v Speaker 2>see that happen.
<v Speaker 1>If I had known it was gonna happen, jan I
<v Speaker 1>one hundred percent would have gone over to watch it.
<v Speaker 1>Some of the video of people taking a look at
<v Speaker 1>it was very cool. It was just a massive fireball
<v Speaker 1>and then these two stacks, you know, coal stacks. I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, they both just kind of could tumble over
<v Speaker 1>on top of one another. And it's right right next
<v Speaker 1>to the lake. So they did have to be very
<v Speaker 1>careful with it. But you know, it seems like everything
<v Speaker 1>went as planned as far as I can tell, other
<v Speaker 1>than maybe giant fireball. That didn't seem like they needed that.
<v Speaker 1>Not that I'm complaining. Giant fireballs are cool. Yeah, so
<v Speaker 1>I the answer of apparently I will not wake up
<v Speaker 1>from an explosion. Oh did you are you looking at it?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>I think Hammond of Texas linked to it and chat, Yes,
<v Speaker 3>that's it.
<v Speaker 1>Avon Lake power plant implodes. That's that's the one. Uh yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it was pretty cool. SHO would have saw it next time.
<v Speaker 1>I'll just have to wait, you know, a few hundred
<v Speaker 1>years for them to explode.
<v Speaker 2>The next thing over and you a defunct power plant.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you. I appreciate that. I did like like the
<v Speaker 1>way it looked, just go like driving past it. It
<v Speaker 1>had like this uh rustic look to it, and uh
<v Speaker 1>but it was falling apart, so I guess I'm glad
<v Speaker 1>they're going to destroy it. Apparently they're going to do
<v Speaker 1>something cool over there, so that could be exciting. J
<v Speaker 1>and I am still definitely recovering from the trip. I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, uh, the extra day the Universal was fun,
<v Speaker 1>but maybe a strategic air in terms of me being
<v Speaker 1>able to get back into the swing of things. I
<v Speaker 1>don't know. Nah, yeah, well.
<v Speaker 2>I M no, I don't think it was a strategic area.
<v Speaker 2>You deserved to grub.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you appreciate it. Yeah, it was. It was. It
<v Speaker 1>was a lot of fun. But boy, I'm like every
<v Speaker 1>day now, I'm like, Okay, I'm gonna do this and
<v Speaker 1>this and this, and I get like halfway through the
<v Speaker 1>first thing, like I'm still very sleepy. So we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>get back in the swing of things here eventually. But
<v Speaker 1>I'm looking forward to this weekend. Although now because we
<v Speaker 1>were gone for so long, there's like five Christmas things
<v Speaker 1>that we're going to try to cram into this weekend.
<v Speaker 1>We got the Christmas Train this weekend.
<v Speaker 2>So oh yeah, all aboard everybody.
<v Speaker 1>That's one. Yeah, it's one of my favorites. Each year.
<v Speaker 1>You have any Christmas stuff you're gonna try.
<v Speaker 2>To do Oh who knows greb who knows?
<v Speaker 1>I know? Well, yeah, just singing we're.
<v Speaker 3>Hanging and clagging the holiday season. Hell yeah, Well we're
<v Speaker 3>gonna figure something out.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's explain what we do here most weekdays, I,
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Greub, will help peace your gaming life back together.
<v Speaker 1>That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our
<v Speaker 1>own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the
<v Speaker 1>input of a bona fide expert who will make me
<v Speaker 1>look smart. If you are watching live on twitch, welcome.
<v Speaker 1>You can always listen to the show later on podcast
<v Speaker 1>feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find therss
<v Speaker 1>on giant bomb dot com. You can also catch the
<v Speaker 1>show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the Morning Mess with a leak suggests switch
<v Speaker 1>to has haul effect sticks and is more powerful wind doc.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Ollie Welsh at Polygon. The rate of
<v Speaker 1>leaks about Nintendo's next console is intensifying, although the same
<v Speaker 1>can't necessarily be said of genuinely new information emerging from
<v Speaker 1>those leaks. However, a particularly substantive report has emerged from
<v Speaker 1>Reddit user Next Handheld, who claims to have seen and
<v Speaker 1>handled a final release version of the console and its
<v Speaker 1>doc albeit well powered off. The Verge reports that has
<v Speaker 1>spoken to Next Handheld and heard and seen enough including
<v Speaker 1>photos to believe their claims. Among those claims, so the
<v Speaker 1>console appears to be called Nintendo Switch to the same
<v Speaker 1>moniker used as a convenient shorthand by almost everyone since
<v Speaker 1>it became clear that Nintendo was making a straightforward successor
<v Speaker 1>to the console to the Switch SAFA, farewell to your
<v Speaker 1>dreams super Switch fans. The Verge says the systems dock
<v Speaker 1>displays the same logo as the original Nintendo Switch, only
<v Speaker 1>with a two attached to it. Next handa held excuse me?
<v Speaker 1>Next Handheld also claims the Switch to JOYCN controllers will
<v Speaker 1>have Hall effect joysticks. These sticks work using electromagnetic fields
<v Speaker 1>and don't require physical contact between their sensor components, making
<v Speaker 1>them much more reliable and immune to the drift issue
<v Speaker 1>that have plagued the switches joy cons. Hall effects sticks
<v Speaker 1>are common in third party controllers, but have been a
<v Speaker 1>rare and official console controllers up to this point, so
<v Speaker 1>this is a significant upgrade. They were used actually in
<v Speaker 1>the first party Dreamcast controllers, which is why those controllers
<v Speaker 1>still work pretty much as advertised. Even more fascinating, the
<v Speaker 1>next handheld leaks just the switch to will have extra
<v Speaker 1>power wind docked. The leaked t the leaker t's that
<v Speaker 1>asking if the DOC had its own cooling fan was
<v Speaker 1>the right question, and that the Verge has seen evidence
<v Speaker 1>events on the dock. Next Handheld also said the DOC
<v Speaker 1>is rated to draw sixty watts of power versus forty
<v Speaker 1>five watts for the undocked console. The implication is that
<v Speaker 1>the DOC will increase the console's graphical capabilities, either through
<v Speaker 1>its own upscaling hardware or by allowing the switch to
<v Speaker 1>to run hot in an essentially overclocked mode. This is
<v Speaker 1>suggestive to the old rumors of a switch pro device
<v Speaker 1>that never materialized, supposedly a switch that would be capable
<v Speaker 1>of four K display on a TV when docked. It's
<v Speaker 1>a little tenuous, but the purport does bring the dream
<v Speaker 1>of four K Nintendo gaming one step closer, one small
<v Speaker 1>step closer I suppose to reality. I mean, jan, I
<v Speaker 1>think even when docked, we're you know right, We're not
<v Speaker 1>gonna get native four K, but like upscaled four K
<v Speaker 1>with a slightly sharper base resolution. That sounds plausible, right, I.
<v Speaker 3>Think at bare minimum Nintendo has to be able to
<v Speaker 3>do that. For as much as folks don't quite care
<v Speaker 3>about graphic fidelity when it comes to Nintendo games, I
<v Speaker 3>feel like, just with how common four K TV's cheap
<v Speaker 3>as well four K TVs have become, especially during the
<v Speaker 3>holiday season, you're gonna need at least some type of
<v Speaker 3>upscaled four K when docked. Now, I'm someone that never
<v Speaker 3>docks my switch, so may not appeal to me. But
<v Speaker 3>if there is a promised power improvement when playing docked
<v Speaker 3>and perhaps like you can kind of overclock it, then
<v Speaker 3>for sure the most interesting thing is like the hal
<v Speaker 3>effect sticks grub because if I was Nintendo, one of
<v Speaker 3>the biggest missteps that I want to avoid jumping out
<v Speaker 3>the gate is immediate joycond drift or whatever they're gonna
<v Speaker 3>call the switch to S controllers if they pop out
<v Speaker 3>or not. I mean, if it is going to be docked,
<v Speaker 3>I'm going to assume that they also pop.
<v Speaker 1>Off, and like the word there is like they just
<v Speaker 1>use a new magnetic connection to connect them to the
<v Speaker 1>dot or to the base unit and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, it sounds pretty similar.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>I also didn't realize that Hall Effect sticks weren't only
<v Speaker 3>for video games and the apparently they're also used when
<v Speaker 3>it comes to heavy machinery.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I bet that that's like super important for
<v Speaker 1>that sort of thing, right where it's like you can't
<v Speaker 1>have drift in a forklift turns out, Yeah, that would
<v Speaker 1>be bad. Yeah, I mean in hall effect is an
<v Speaker 1>old technology. It's been around for a long time. Like
<v Speaker 1>I said, it was built into the Dreamcast controller, so
<v Speaker 1>they've been using them in video games in one way
<v Speaker 1>or another for a very long time. I honestly, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know the history. I bet it goes back way
<v Speaker 1>further than that. Even usually when like a technology is
<v Speaker 1>named after a scientist, it feels like it came from
<v Speaker 1>some time in the mid nineteen hundreds. Yeah, so that's
<v Speaker 1>good news. You're right, this will avoid the drift issue,
<v Speaker 1>and we'll just make these controllers more a lot reliable
<v Speaker 1>in general, and that'll be nice to have, and you know,
<v Speaker 1>I won't have to feel the need to go get
<v Speaker 1>third party things that are gonna last. It'll just be
<v Speaker 1>it'll just come with these controllers. And Nintendo knows for
<v Speaker 1>as much as having controllers like break slowly over time
<v Speaker 1>is a benefit to these companies. They sell a lot
<v Speaker 1>of controllers to people who have controllers that are a
<v Speaker 1>little bit scuffed. Uh. They know that they're good at
<v Speaker 1>sewing that stuff anyhow by introducing new colors and variants
<v Speaker 1>and things like that, so they're gonna be just fine.
<v Speaker 1>And those controller profit margins that are super high are
<v Speaker 1>not going to go anywhere like they can. They're gonna
<v Speaker 1>survive this by giving us reliable controllers. Yeah, I mean, uh,
<v Speaker 1>at this point though, as we get these rumors and
<v Speaker 1>we sort of haven't got the oh, and here's the
<v Speaker 1>weird thing about the switch too, yet, I'm starting to
<v Speaker 1>feel like there probably isn't a weird thing. And are
<v Speaker 1>you a little disappointed by any of that or you're
<v Speaker 1>like just happy the Switch two is going to be
<v Speaker 1>more switch.
<v Speaker 3>I'm a little disappointed just because you know, when you're
<v Speaker 3>looking at PlayStation and Xbox, like, these are just consoles
<v Speaker 3>at this point, right, They're just box, big boxes that
<v Speaker 3>play games, and the games look nice. With Nintendo, there's
<v Speaker 3>always like that fun gimmick, even if they abandoned that
<v Speaker 3>gimmick fairly early into the consoles or the portables lifespan,
<v Speaker 3>Like when was the last time you had a game
<v Speaker 3>that innovated? Like everybody won to switch.
<v Speaker 1>That's right, of course, Yeah, exactly.
<v Speaker 2>Uh huh. So I would have enjoyed seeing some type
<v Speaker 2>of gimmick. I mean.
<v Speaker 3>Maybe there is one, Like we talked about you and
<v Speaker 3>Mike to last Tuesday, talked about the possibility of there
<v Speaker 3>being a camera on a switch to, and I think
<v Speaker 3>that'd be fun, that'd be interesting. There's the infrared camera
<v Speaker 3>already built into the joy cons so some type of
<v Speaker 3>C button or a capture butN would be cool. I'm
<v Speaker 3>still holding out for the watch.
<v Speaker 1>Grub Yeah why, I mean, honestly, if there's some sort
<v Speaker 1>of hardware gimmick, watch still seems on the table. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'd be.
<v Speaker 3>Really up for if Nintendo kind just married the portable
<v Speaker 3>portability aspect completely with the switch to and like the
<v Speaker 3>home console factor, because I feel like they're there. You know,
<v Speaker 3>when when a peak public transportation was a thing pre pandemic,
<v Speaker 3>you must have run into so many people with a
<v Speaker 3>switch switch in their backpack or like on their persons
<v Speaker 3>traveling through the airport. There's got to be so many
<v Speaker 3>people who switches there, so street passing would be a
<v Speaker 3>fun little gimmick thing again with a switch to, if
<v Speaker 3>they had it. I'm a big fan of how with
<v Speaker 3>iPhones if you Nick Nikki Grayson showed this to me.
<v Speaker 3>But if you just like bump your iPhone next to someone,
<v Speaker 3>you'll share your contact info. Something like that with the
<v Speaker 3>switch to would be really cool. I really want a gimmick,
<v Speaker 3>but we don't need a gimmick. If we get stronger,
<v Speaker 3>better performance out of a switch to, that's coolists yeah,
<v Speaker 3>but I want something dumb.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And I think that people in chatter are like saying,
<v Speaker 1>if there's something dumb is going to show up in there,
<v Speaker 1>something weird, it'll probably be in the OS. It'll probably
<v Speaker 1>be in the software. Uh, some new you know OS
<v Speaker 1>feature that they haven't that they can't show off yet before.
<v Speaker 1>We can't get leaked yet because we haven't seen that stuff.
<v Speaker 3>Maybe they got rid of keyboards on the switch OS
<v Speaker 3>and it's all just rotary style.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, Yeah, let's do it. We'll bring back the rotary style.
<v Speaker 1>You know it'll be it'll be fun and quirky because
<v Speaker 1>it's Nintendo and you can't complain about it. People are
<v Speaker 1>asking like, Hey, what are the weird buttons on the
<v Speaker 1>back of these renders that we keep seeing. Uh? Those
<v Speaker 1>they're like little buttons below the shoulder buttons, but kind
<v Speaker 1>of like in the nook where your finger goes, so
<v Speaker 1>it looks like you could be pressing them while you're
<v Speaker 1>playing games. I bet those are just still to detach
<v Speaker 1>the joy cons from the device. Uh, it would be
<v Speaker 1>hard to imagine that they would be used for it
<v Speaker 1>much more than that grub.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, what have we been looking at this the wrong way?
<v Speaker 3>You know how? We've seen reports that the switch to
<v Speaker 3>will have magnetic joy cons versus the slotting in DA cons.
<v Speaker 3>Perhaps someone mentioned this in the chat of what if
<v Speaker 3>there is an interchangeable TAT mode?
<v Speaker 2>What if it's just tate?
<v Speaker 1>Oh all tat oopsal Tate oopsal tat.
<v Speaker 3>What if what if Nintendo's, like you know what, everyone
<v Speaker 3>is playing Landscape on their phones or Portrait on their phones.
<v Speaker 1>Right, let's just do that. That would be an incredible game.
<v Speaker 1>All Nintendo Switch two games are in portrait. Get used
<v Speaker 1>to it. You can't see anything coming from your peripheral
<v Speaker 1>in Mario screw you.
<v Speaker 2>People will have to turn their TVs on.
<v Speaker 1>The side they sell, they begin selling tall TVs, Nintendo's
<v Speaker 1>tall Nintendo Tall TVs.
<v Speaker 3>Oh my god, Grub just wait, everybody timestamp this now
<v Speaker 3>twelve nineteen, twenty twenty four, Jeff Grub and Jan She'll
<v Speaker 3>finally cracked the code.
<v Speaker 1>We did it, everybody, We got into the system and
<v Speaker 1>we broke them. Yeah. Hey, boy, of the weeks are
<v Speaker 1>coming out really fast. And I think that that continues
<v Speaker 1>to mean that this thing is in manufacturing and it's
<v Speaker 1>beginning to get out there and people are getting their
<v Speaker 1>hands on it. And you would think that Nintendo would
<v Speaker 1>want to come out and confirm it and talk about
<v Speaker 1>it so that they can avoid these situations, but they
<v Speaker 1>just don't seem to care. So they'll now they continue
<v Speaker 1>to seem to be announcing it on their own timeline,
<v Speaker 1>which at this point still seems like sometime early next year.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, who knows.
<v Speaker 1>Well, who knows? All right, let's see here, stick with
<v Speaker 1>the future hardware stories. Sony and AMD are partnering to
<v Speaker 1>launch a project called Amethyst that will change gaming forever.
<v Speaker 1>This is from oscar on on Docale at Game Reactor.
<v Speaker 1>Just weeks after the release of the PS five Pro,
<v Speaker 1>Sony is already looking ahead to its next major technological
<v Speaker 1>break through. This time, the company has decided to partner
<v Speaker 1>with AMD, once again, the tech leader behind the custom
<v Speaker 1>chips in both the PS four and PS five, as
<v Speaker 1>well as the Xbox consoles. Together, they're launching a game
<v Speaker 1>changing project called Amethyst, which aims to dramatically improve gaming
<v Speaker 1>graphics and overall gameplay. And a recent presentation, Mark Serni,
<v Speaker 1>the mastermind behind the PS five and PS five pro,
<v Speaker 1>shared new insights into Sony's latest console. One of the
<v Speaker 1>most exciting reveals was the announcement of Amethysts, a collaboration
<v Speaker 1>named after the fusion of AMD's signature red and PlayStation's
<v Speaker 1>iconic blue. The goal of this initiative is twofold First,
<v Speaker 1>the companies aim to create an architecture that is optimized
<v Speaker 1>for machine learning. This technology will enable more efficient processing
<v Speaker 1>of neural networks, especially those used in game graphics. This
<v Speaker 1>vision is to push the boundaries of what's possible by
<v Speaker 1>integrating fully fused networks for a smoother, more immersive gaming experience. However,
<v Speaker 1>the impact of machine learning won't be limited to just graphics.
<v Speaker 1>Serney emphasized that one of the main goals of Amethysts
<v Speaker 1>is to make machine learning more accessible to gain game developers,
<v Speaker 1>allowing them to directly implement AI and enhance both gameplay
<v Speaker 1>and visuals. In fact, the partnership isn't just about creating
<v Speaker 1>proprietary PlayStation technology. Instead, it's about fostering a broad shift
<v Speaker 1>in how machine learning can be used across devices, revolutionizing
<v Speaker 1>the gaming industry as a whole. On the graphics front,
<v Speaker 1>the collaboration will focus on developing a high quality set
<v Speaker 1>of neural networks specifically designed for game visuals. With this,
<v Speaker 1>both Sony Interactive Entertainment and AMD will have flexibility to
<v Speaker 1>work independently on advancing the technology. The hope is that
<v Speaker 1>this will lead to more detailed graphics and greater use
<v Speaker 1>of advanced features like ray tracing and path tracing in
<v Speaker 1>years in upcoming games. In other words, Amethysts is set
<v Speaker 1>to take gaming visuals and gameplay to the next level,
<v Speaker 1>bringing us closer to the next frontier of interactive entertainment. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>I think it's probably time that these big companies, both
<v Speaker 1>on the hardware side and on the platform slash game
<v Speaker 1>creation side again looking at like, Hey, we have sort
<v Speaker 1>of found a rut that we've fallen into with game
<v Speaker 1>visuals and what is gonna what is the next step?
<v Speaker 1>Is it just getting even better performance from rasterization or
<v Speaker 1>is there something else beyond It's it's kind a little
<v Speaker 1>bit similar to what's happened with the hardware overall, where
<v Speaker 1>you know, Moore's law was it's going to get twice
<v Speaker 1>as powerful and half as expensive every eighteen months, and
<v Speaker 1>that has slowed down over the last couple of years.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, at the same time, the improvement and
<v Speaker 1>game visuals has slowed down just based on you know,
<v Speaker 1>the return on investment or what's called when like you
<v Speaker 1>either way, yes, the return on actual putting the money
<v Speaker 1>into getting better visuals. It's just not having the same result.
<v Speaker 1>And so it's like, Okay, well, is there something that
<v Speaker 1>could be done that is a new new idea of
<v Speaker 1>creating graphics, And that seems to be what they're going
<v Speaker 1>after with this, with this idea of machine learning powering visuals.
<v Speaker 1>In the first place, we've seen some like early tests
<v Speaker 1>of this and it's like this weird thing where the
<v Speaker 1>AI is generating the video game on the fly and
<v Speaker 1>while people are interacting with it, and then it works
<v Speaker 1>for like fifteen seconds and it falls apart. Maybe that
<v Speaker 1>is the future. I don't know. One thing I do think,
<v Speaker 1>jan is it's very difficult to get the games industry
<v Speaker 1>to adopt a new technology like this unless it is
<v Speaker 1>just fundamentally better in every way, And so it feels
<v Speaker 1>like this has an uphill climb, But I think it's
<v Speaker 1>worth investigating.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, one hundred percent, I will say, from someone that
<v Speaker 3>doesn't quite care about graphic fidelity.
<v Speaker 2>Or performance, this does.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it is going in one ear and out the other.
<v Speaker 3>I understand that by a one hundred percent agree with you, Greblake.
<v Speaker 3>You're going to need a lot of people to have
<v Speaker 3>to adopt this, And when graphics jazz seems like it's
<v Speaker 3>all over the place, it seems like it's going to
<v Speaker 3>be definitely hard to find some uniform approach to tackling this.
<v Speaker 3>I mean, if it's within Sony Sony internally, can can
<v Speaker 3>you know, have their studios, have their internal studios that
<v Speaker 3>they're also working with, like, hey, just go push this dogs,
<v Speaker 3>but personally grab like I.
<v Speaker 1>It's just yep, no, it's right.
<v Speaker 2>I'd rather care about like, hey, make the Mario look smooth.
<v Speaker 1>Make Mario smoother. They've been afraid to do it, and
<v Speaker 1>it's time that they get over their cowardice and make
<v Speaker 1>the smoothest Mario possible. I do have an interest in, uh,
<v Speaker 1>the gameplay side of things and what that can unlock,
<v Speaker 1>you know, changing the way that the graphics are rendered.
<v Speaker 1>I think that is they'll taking the long way around
<v Speaker 1>to get to video games that are probably still going
<v Speaker 1>to look pretty similar to what we have from rasterized
<v Speaker 1>graphics at the moment. And I know it's like pretty confusing,
<v Speaker 1>but right now, just the developer makes a world, they
<v Speaker 1>use a bunch of tools to say, hey, this is
<v Speaker 1>what the system should do when it needs to render
<v Speaker 1>out the graphics, and AI would be able to like
<v Speaker 1>be like do that on the fly. Supposedly that's what
<v Speaker 1>they're going for. That's what they're trying to do on
<v Speaker 1>that side of things. Again, I think at the best
<v Speaker 1>case scenario there is probably we get games that look
<v Speaker 1>maybe about the same, but somehow we're a little bit
<v Speaker 1>easier for developers to produce. There's something to be said
<v Speaker 1>for that, but we're not going to notice that all
<v Speaker 1>that much. A game that does have the ability to
<v Speaker 1>use machine learning for enemy interactions that is still very
<v Speaker 1>I'm very I'm very curious about that. I remember like
<v Speaker 1>seeing an early example of machine learning and they're like, here,
<v Speaker 1>we're going to build a three D model, and then
<v Speaker 1>we're going to tell the model learn the most efficient
<v Speaker 1>way to walk and like basically teach yourself the best
<v Speaker 1>walking animation. And they sent the thing through the program,
<v Speaker 1>you know, ten million times in a few minutes, and
<v Speaker 1>it came back out and it like it had a
<v Speaker 1>pretty decent walking animation that it had just learned itself,
<v Speaker 1>and it looked really natural. And it's like, if you
<v Speaker 1>could build a whole world that was operating on that
<v Speaker 1>on those same rule sets of hey, do what's best
<v Speaker 1>for yourself to like under the certain set of parameters,
<v Speaker 1>I think you could create interesting gaming worlds that that
<v Speaker 1>feel more alive. But you know, we haven't seen the
<v Speaker 1>proof of that, but hey, that's what they're going to
<v Speaker 1>try and investigate with this, And I'm glad that Sony
<v Speaker 1>md AMD are pushing forward on these ideas, even if
<v Speaker 1>it does even if we know the motivation here is
<v Speaker 1>they are at a point where it's harder and harder
<v Speaker 1>to sell us new hardware because are the current consoles
<v Speaker 1>we have and the current GPUs we have in a
<v Speaker 1>lot of cases are good enough, and so they have
<v Speaker 1>to create the fomo. They have to create the four stops,
<v Speaker 1>a lessons of Sure, here's what the new technology could
<v Speaker 1>do that your old technology can't. And that's clearly the
<v Speaker 1>motivation here. But still, maybe we do get something new
<v Speaker 1>and interesting. And gaming has always been about novelty and
<v Speaker 1>the next new weird thing, and this could be it.
<v Speaker 2>I think maybe we shouldn't trade the machines to walk grove.
<v Speaker 1>The machines should just sit down and say there, yes,
<v Speaker 1>stay in your chair, please all right. Sony to become
<v Speaker 1>largest share shareholder of from software parent company Kadakawa. This
<v Speaker 1>is from James Batchelor at Games Industry dopi IS and
<v Speaker 1>this is a follow up to a story we've been
<v Speaker 1>talking about for the last few weeks. Sony is increasing
<v Speaker 1>its stake in Katakawa Corporation, which will make it make
<v Speaker 1>it from software parent to parent's biggest shareholder. Katakawa owns
<v Speaker 1>from Software. Just to be clear there our owns a
<v Speaker 1>significant portion of it. The company announced such strategic capital
<v Speaker 1>and business alliance agreement which will see Sony acquiring more
<v Speaker 1>than twelve million new shares in kata Kawa in January
<v Speaker 1>by January seventh, twenty twenty five, for around three hundred
<v Speaker 1>and eighteen million dollars. Added to the Katakawa shares that
<v Speaker 1>the PlayStation firm previous previously acquired in February twenty twenty one.
<v Speaker 1>This will give Sony an approximately ten percent steak in
<v Speaker 1>the company. Sony already owns a fourteen percent steak in
<v Speaker 1>the elder ring developer from Software separately, which is owned
<v Speaker 1>and the rest of that is owned by Katakawa. The
<v Speaker 1>agreement goes beyond the stale the sale of shares. The
<v Speaker 1>two companies are planning to work together in the future
<v Speaker 1>on a number of joint projects, including adapting some of
<v Speaker 1>Katakawa's ip into live action films and TV dramas, co
<v Speaker 1>producing anime works, and expanding the publishing and distribution for
<v Speaker 1>both kata Kawa's anime and video games. The news comes
<v Speaker 1>after Sony indicated interest in acquiring Kattakawa Corporation at the
<v Speaker 1>end of last month, and that would have been a
<v Speaker 1>full on acquisition, and you know Sony's interest there expressing interest.
<v Speaker 1>Kata Ka was like, hey, we know you want to
<v Speaker 1>work together. We either acquire us full sale or wholesale
<v Speaker 1>excuse me, or let's figure something else out, And this
<v Speaker 1>seems to be them figuring something else sucks. Sony maybe
<v Speaker 1>didn't want to actually go through with a full acquisition.
<v Speaker 1>They've always been hesitant about that because Katakawa has a
<v Speaker 1>lot of other businesses that Sony is not interested beyond
<v Speaker 1>the anime and the video games. Don't know what else
<v Speaker 1>to say about this much. I suppose, Hey, a strategic
<v Speaker 1>partnership does lead to both companies maybe getting a little
<v Speaker 1>bit more of what they wanted. Sony loves anime right now,
<v Speaker 1>that's the big part of their business. You think this
<v Speaker 1>means a lot more video games based on anime from Sony.
<v Speaker 3>I don't immediately see that being the case scrub because
<v Speaker 3>you know, track record for video game adaptations for anime
<v Speaker 3>not never really being superstellar, not saying that they're all bad,
<v Speaker 3>but I can't remember at least the last time one
<v Speaker 3>was particularly striking, maybe sparking zero from this year.
<v Speaker 2>But I feel like this is.
<v Speaker 3>Sony making I don't want to say smart bets, but
<v Speaker 3>smart investments with From. They see that From is a
<v Speaker 3>fucking powerhouse when it's coming to games, and there are
<v Speaker 3>other aspects of Katakawa's uh uh.
<v Speaker 2>Tend rolls in the industry.
<v Speaker 3>I've seen some people say that this is this maybe
<v Speaker 3>kind of ugly for anime, Yeah, a.
<v Speaker 1>Lot of the anime business.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, so we'll we'll have to see in a bit
<v Speaker 3>about how that's going to affect the anime business. But
<v Speaker 3>I I maybe maybe we're going to see an uncharted
<v Speaker 3>anime grub. Yeah, maybe we're going to see a sad
<v Speaker 3>Dad God of war anime.
<v Speaker 1>It's about time, absolutely, Yeah. I think that from the
<v Speaker 1>anime manga side of things, I know that this is
<v Speaker 1>like this puts even more eggs in one basket, although
<v Speaker 1>not as bad as it would have been had Sony
<v Speaker 1>did actually went through with the acquisition of kata Kawa.
<v Speaker 1>So maybe this avoid avoids the worst case scenario there.
<v Speaker 1>But Sony does seem to be the one major conglomerate
<v Speaker 1>that is making bringing all things together an anime and uh.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think people have super positive feelings about like
<v Speaker 1>what happened when like Sony had Country Roll and acquired
<v Speaker 1>like some of the other stuff. I can't remember what
<v Speaker 1>the other ones were called, but they kind of brought
<v Speaker 1>them all under one Roof and people seem to be
<v Speaker 1>a little bit less than enthused about what happened there.
<v Speaker 1>And if this like follows that trend, I imagine those
<v Speaker 1>fans could be even more frustrated. And then when it
<v Speaker 1>comes to the games, Yeah, I think you're right that, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>they probably won't have the resource to be able to
<v Speaker 1>immediately make a ton of games based on all that stuff.
<v Speaker 1>It's hard to find a development team to just drop
<v Speaker 1>everything and be like, Okay, now we have you know,
<v Speaker 1>let's say conservatively fifteen new things from Kata Kabo we
<v Speaker 1>could begin working on to adapt. That's not gonna happen
<v Speaker 1>that way.
<v Speaker 3>No, No, And I don't think you could do an
<v Speaker 3>asset flip of a game and make that work unless
<v Speaker 3>I don't know, maybe you're bringing skins into an existing game,
<v Speaker 3>But then what did so sure apply skins to? Perhaps
<v Speaker 3>hell Divers, But I mean we'll talk about hell Divers
<v Speaker 3>too soon in the news.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, that's right. And it's like, you know, what, is
<v Speaker 1>Sony going to start producing anime games on the level
<v Speaker 1>of a bandy Namco? Like they're not going to do that.
<v Speaker 1>Like band Namco makes decent money from some of those
<v Speaker 1>some of them do better than others. Some of them
<v Speaker 1>are better than others. Those anime games from Bandy Namco,
<v Speaker 1>but they feel they're all about sevens out of tens.
<v Speaker 1>And I don't think Sony wants to be in the
<v Speaker 1>business of just churning that kind of thing out.
<v Speaker 3>No, no, And also with like we we've talked about
<v Speaker 3>this at length, but like the cadence of Sony is
<v Speaker 3>like triple A big blockbuster James, that's not going to
<v Speaker 3>translate to an anime game anytime soon.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's take a quick break. When we come back,
<v Speaker 1>Mariah Carey is trapped on a block of ice and
<v Speaker 1>we gotta do something. We'll talk about it after this.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we are back, and as promised, Mariah Carey
<v Speaker 1>is currently trapped inside a giant block of ice in Fortnite.
<v Speaker 1>This is from John Walker at Kotaku. If you updated
<v Speaker 1>Fortnite yesterday. Yesterday, you will likely have noticed that the
<v Speaker 1>island is now half covered in snow. Furious gingerbread men
<v Speaker 1>are scattered about, and there's an enormous monolith of ice
<v Speaker 1>sticking out of a hillside. Leakers are claiming that Mariah
<v Speaker 1>Carey is going to emerge from within that ice. Fortnite
<v Speaker 1>has boasted some very peculiar tie ins in the past,
<v Speaker 1>more recently reaching a lunatic fever pitch where so many
<v Speaker 1>ips and franchises are involved at once. That October saw
<v Speaker 1>people dressed as Edward Scissorhands and Jason Vorhees taking up
<v Speaker 1>arms against Doctor Doom with the help from Iron Man.
<v Speaker 1>In November, you could battle Snoop Dogg in M and
<v Speaker 1>M while sporting a brand new pair of Nikes on
<v Speaker 1>your mworphous blob creature. It's a corporate soup of cameos
<v Speaker 1>and crossovers, which viewed from the outside, can appear rather gross,
<v Speaker 1>and now, Mariah Carey, of all people are getting involved
<v Speaker 1>in the mix. I'm a recent convert to Fortnite, drawn
<v Speaker 1>in by my ten year old having made the lazy
<v Speaker 1>but understandable mistake of thinking it's just a cacophony of
<v Speaker 1>cartoonish noise. Turns out, beneath the corporate tians and embarrassing
<v Speaker 1>celebrity endorsements, it's one hell of a solid online shooter.
<v Speaker 1>I thoroughly enjoy playing Idealian duo's with the boy blah
<v Speaker 1>blah blah. Anyway, Mariah Carriyes in some ice. Yeah, listen, that's
<v Speaker 1>I hope it thaws. She comes out, she sings the
<v Speaker 1>song on Christmas Eve. I don't know. I don't know
<v Speaker 1>exactly how it's going to go down, but I continue
<v Speaker 1>to think these dumb celebrity tie ins are getting weirder
<v Speaker 1>and weirder in all the best ways.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm all for this type of celebrity endorsement or
<v Speaker 3>like ham fisting a celebrity into a game. It's fun,
<v Speaker 3>it's dumb, it's I don't think it's hurting anyone, I
<v Speaker 3>guess unless folks that don't celebrate Christmas are very offended.
<v Speaker 3>But hey, you can at least see a giant Mariah
<v Speaker 3>Carey perhaps, Yeah what if? What if like Mariah Carey
<v Speaker 3>fights Godzilla?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah she should. That would be fantastic.
<v Speaker 3>It's it's so funny because like the sentence that you
<v Speaker 3>read of Jason Voorhees and Edward Scissorhants fighting Doctor Doom
<v Speaker 3>with the help of Iron Man is like the promised
<v Speaker 3>dream of the Ready Player one movie.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and it's just happening Fortnite. It's just Fortnite, that's right.
<v Speaker 1>The metaverse is real and it runs on real engine. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's I think this sort of thing continues to be fun.
<v Speaker 1>They know what I mean. Fortnite is just the best
<v Speaker 1>at these events. They really are that they know how
<v Speaker 1>to change up their map in a way that will
<v Speaker 1>get people curious and come back in. And I'm definitely
<v Speaker 1>I definitely want to see this from myself. I don't
<v Speaker 1>know see exactly what like how I get a Mariah
<v Speaker 1>Carey to emerge, but I want to see it.
<v Speaker 3>Two things grim One, I just want Titan Fall three
<v Speaker 3>to just happen, but in Fortnite, I feel like that
<v Speaker 3>is a sooner possibility. Two, what if the actual thing
<v Speaker 3>inside that block game that Peter Mullin you was talking about,
<v Speaker 3>What if it was actually just Mariah Carey.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>What if we just were tapping on the cube and
<v Speaker 1>Mariah Carey was trapped in there, and uh we unleashed
<v Speaker 1>her and we just didn't know, we didn't know, But
<v Speaker 1>we soon got to the center of that cube. So
<v Speaker 1>we have it. We successfully rescued Mariah Carey. Everybody once
<v Speaker 1>already we could do it again. Yes, the Curiosity Cube
<v Speaker 1>all right? Hell divers two boss says, blame us, not
<v Speaker 1>Sony for kill Zone DLC pricing and that that us
<v Speaker 1>I believe means that he held Helldivers to developers and
<v Speaker 1>not you know, us, me and me and jan Me
<v Speaker 1>and Jane had nothing to do with it. This is
<v Speaker 1>from Eddie McCoo at GameSpot. The newly launched kill Zone
<v Speaker 1>DLC for Sony's Helldivers two has not gone over entirely smoothly,
<v Speaker 1>as some people have made their feelings known about the pricing.
<v Speaker 1>Arrowhead CEO Shams Georgianni recently responded to fan questions, and
<v Speaker 1>among his responses where confirmation was confirmation that Arrowhead, not Sony,
<v Speaker 1>bears responsibility for the pricing decision. It's a partnership with Sony,
<v Speaker 1>he said on the Hell Divers discord, as reported by IGN.
<v Speaker 1>But we are in the driving seat behind these decisions.
<v Speaker 1>This one is on us. Georgiohnny also planted out how
<v Speaker 1>the kill Zone DLC is the first crossover content and
<v Speaker 1>Hell Divers two, and the studio will be figuring it
<v Speaker 1>out as we go along. The executive went on to
<v Speaker 1>mention how DLC is optional, but the more paid content
<v Speaker 1>the company sells, the more free content the studio will
<v Speaker 1>be able to release the first wave of kill Zone
<v Speaker 1>items in Helldivers two launched on December eighteenth and will
<v Speaker 1>be available until December twenty third. The content ranges in
<v Speaker 1>prices from ninety credits up to about six hundred and
<v Speaker 1>fifteen or about seven dollars for the new Assault rifle.
<v Speaker 1>A second batch of kill Zone crossover content arrives on
<v Speaker 1>December twenty third. It remains to be seen if Aarrowhead
<v Speaker 1>will make any changes to its pricing strategy for the
<v Speaker 1>second wave. That's not true. Well, it remained to be seen,
<v Speaker 1>and now we've seen it. They came out with a
<v Speaker 1>message staying that the second half of the content will
<v Speaker 1>be free as a response to the backlash year Man
<v Speaker 1>pricing this stuff has always been treacherous for these companies,
<v Speaker 1>and it feels like Man, every game that you hear
<v Speaker 1>having a huge, successful live service game launch, they eventually
<v Speaker 1>find a way to step in it when it comes
<v Speaker 1>to content pricing. Down the line, happened to titan Fall
<v Speaker 1>a bunch of times, I'm sorry, happened to on Apex
<v Speaker 1>Legends a bunch of times. Ye, It's definitely happened a
<v Speaker 1>Fortnite before. It's happening here now, and I got I
<v Speaker 1>can't help but think all this over some kill Zone content.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, right, the kill Zone freaks, the hell gasts,
<v Speaker 3>the hell gasters out there will will probably pay whatever
<v Speaker 3>penny they they are asked for for that hot kill
<v Speaker 3>Zone content. It's always hard grub because if you price
<v Speaker 3>it too high, the people that aren't even interested in
<v Speaker 3>these specific cosmetic packs, sometimes their good will will be ruined.
<v Speaker 3>And then you'll just have a bunch of people complaining
<v Speaker 3>online that we're never gonna buy it in the first place,
<v Speaker 3>which is unfortunate. Yeah, and then that's just gonna be
<v Speaker 3>some like negative stink online.
<v Speaker 2>But I guess good.
<v Speaker 3>On Arrowhead for being like, all right, sorry, here's your
<v Speaker 3>kill Zone stuff, here's your glowy orange eyes.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I mean, and maybe giving away the second half
<v Speaker 1>of the stuff for free encourages more people to actually
<v Speaker 1>pay for the first half, So maybe this still works
<v Speaker 1>out for everyone involved. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I just.
<v Speaker 1>Never been like on bloy, I can't wait to get
<v Speaker 1>more hell gased armor on my video game characters.
<v Speaker 3>I feel like in the last two weeks, us as
<v Speaker 3>a whole have been talking a lot about.
<v Speaker 1>Kill Zone has just infested us and from left and right.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, and I don't know why I don't Those games
<v Speaker 3>were okay, But why why is kill Zone still here
<v Speaker 3>in twenty twenty four?
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Why don't we talk about vector Man?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, put vector Man in Hell Divers two.
<v Speaker 2>There you go, there we go.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I get that Herman Holst is in
<v Speaker 1>charge of this whole operation. Now, maybe maybe that gives
<v Speaker 1>killed Zone. That kills a little shield there.
<v Speaker 3>Also, the bread crumbs turns out there just slices of
<v Speaker 3>bread grub.
<v Speaker 1>Also, it's kill Zone. I can't every time I read it,
<v Speaker 1>I want to say kill Zone. Eh. So, yeah, sounds delicious. Absolutely,
<v Speaker 1>put some cheese in that. Well.
<v Speaker 3>The thing is, folks, I know, yes, let's all punch
<v Speaker 3>and shoot Nazis and video games, but I think you
<v Speaker 3>get to play as that to dress.
<v Speaker 1>Up as the Hell guests.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, which isn't the same.
<v Speaker 1>No, it's definitely not the same. It is. It is
<v Speaker 1>the exact opposite in fact of punching a Nazi dressing
<v Speaker 1>up as one. Yeah. I don't know. Again, I feel
<v Speaker 1>for any studio that like this is the business model
<v Speaker 1>and clearly like they want to keep paying for everything
<v Speaker 1>going forward based on this game. And we know at
<v Speaker 1>this point that studios need to have paid DLC to
<v Speaker 1>really make that makes sense. And so being able to
<v Speaker 1>figure this out and be like, hey, is this something
<v Speaker 1>that is enticing so you'll pay this much for it?
<v Speaker 1>And the truth is a lot of people do pay
<v Speaker 1>that those numbers, those figures, those higher numbers for these
<v Speaker 1>kinds of content, and that's why it gets priced this way.
<v Speaker 1>And then a lot of people are like, well, I'm
<v Speaker 1>never going to do that, So it just like looks
<v Speaker 1>bad from that perspective, and I think these companies try
<v Speaker 1>to walk a narrow line and it's hard to pull
<v Speaker 1>that off. All right. There's a rumor that the Elder
<v Speaker 1>Scrolls for Oblivion remaster might be announced next month. This
<v Speaker 1>is from Jonas Mackie at Game Reactor. During the high
<v Speaker 1>profile Microsoft leak in the fall of twenty twenty three,
<v Speaker 1>when Activision Blizzard was being acquired, it was noted that
<v Speaker 1>Bethesda was currently working on a remaster or remake of
<v Speaker 1>the Elder Scrolls for Oblivion. Since then, we haven't heard
<v Speaker 1>anything more about it, but several insiders have claimed that
<v Speaker 1>it's still on the way, including the usually very reliable Clobrial,
<v Speaker 1>who recently hinted at of release in twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 1>Excuse me now? Joining the chorus is insiders is insider
<v Speaker 1>ecstasis a person who has gotten a lot right before,
<v Speaker 1>but also a couple of false alarms. He annown says
<v Speaker 1>that the game could possibly be shown off during the
<v Speaker 1>alleged Xbox event early next year, but whether they will
<v Speaker 1>whether that will actually happen remains to be seen, given
<v Speaker 1>that it will be a very long time before the
<v Speaker 1>Elder Scroll six is released, Perhaps a refreshed Oblivion would
<v Speaker 1>be a nice occupation of preoccupation until then, or what
<v Speaker 1>do you think is what the story here says? Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this is one where, if I'm remembering the rumor right,
<v Speaker 1>this is the one that was going to take the
<v Speaker 1>basis of Oblivion, take what they have from that game,
<v Speaker 1>and keep the gameplay mostly intact, and then apply a
<v Speaker 1>new visual layer powered by Unreal Engine on top of that.
<v Speaker 1>So the visual engine would be Unreal, the gameplay engine
<v Speaker 1>would be game Bryo, was that what it was back then,
<v Speaker 1>And they would just do these two things together, and
<v Speaker 1>so they would like visually would pop and look like
<v Speaker 1>a modern game, and then it would still play like Oblivion,
<v Speaker 1>which sounds great to me. I love Oblivion, and I hope.
<v Speaker 1>I think also this could be a test bed for
<v Speaker 1>the future for them, where maybe that's actually how they
<v Speaker 1>end up making Elder Scroll six, where it's like the
<v Speaker 1>visuals are powered by Unreal so it can look as
<v Speaker 1>modern as possible, and then underneath that they could still
<v Speaker 1>do all the fun stuff they do with an Elder
<v Speaker 1>Scrolls game because they still have all of the code
<v Speaker 1>there as well. Hey that sounds good to me.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, post Malon has been waiting for a new Elder
<v Speaker 3>Scroll Rolls grubs, so like, we got to satisfy post
<v Speaker 3>the any any way possible.
<v Speaker 1>We got you must say it. We got to like
<v Speaker 1>make sure post It gets what he wants. Yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>Oblivion was the one that got me in the originally
<v Speaker 1>with Elder Scrolls. I have never really gone back to
<v Speaker 1>Moral Wind. I always wanted to. I know people love
<v Speaker 1>Moral Wind, but Oblivion was definitely mine. I had a
<v Speaker 1>great time with that, and that's why I was like
<v Speaker 1>so excited when Skyrim was coming out. I think that
<v Speaker 1>kind of bringing back Oblivion would be fantastic in this
<v Speaker 1>holdover period between now and when Elder Scroll six comes out,
<v Speaker 1>because we do the math every time. Jan Elder Scroll six.
<v Speaker 1>You know, Starfield came out, was it last year? Was
<v Speaker 1>that last year? Was that the year before last year? Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>Last night, last year. So we're still several years away
<v Speaker 1>from the Older Scroll six in best in the best
<v Speaker 1>case scenario, so like three years maybe if everything is perfect,
<v Speaker 1>but probably more probably closer to four or five years.
<v Speaker 1>So if we could get Oblivion next year, that fills
<v Speaker 1>in the gap.
<v Speaker 3>Right, that fills in the gap, I'd personally be I'm
<v Speaker 3>fairly interested in checking out a remastered or a reworked Oblivion,
<v Speaker 3>the only Elder Scrolls game I ever checked out with Skyrim,
<v Speaker 3>and I enjoyed that when that came out and when
<v Speaker 3>that continued to come out for the next four years.
<v Speaker 3>So circling back to Oblivion, I'd love to explore that world.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. Yeah, And maybe the yes, as Old says or no,
<v Speaker 1>I'm sorry at and Chad says, is the horse armor
<v Speaker 1>DLC included, And boy, that was the first that was
<v Speaker 1>that was the first a DLC pricing scandal. That was
<v Speaker 1>and that was a long time ago now and we're
<v Speaker 1>still doing that dance, aren't we?
<v Speaker 2>Uh?
<v Speaker 1>All right? The Witch or four may not be released
<v Speaker 1>on Xbox Series S. This is from Marcus Person at
<v Speaker 1>Game Reactor. During the Game Awards, we got a first
<v Speaker 1>look at the upcoming hotly anticipated next Chapter and the
<v Speaker 1>Witcher saga from CD Project read a technically impressive showcase
<v Speaker 1>that clearly demonstrated the potential of Unreal Engine five and
<v Speaker 1>the groundbreaking visual splendor that the graphics engine enables. But
<v Speaker 1>will it really be possible to offer such a visual
<v Speaker 1>spectacle on current consoles? Yes, with some compromise, of course.
<v Speaker 1>But what is a bigger question mark is the Xbox
<v Speaker 1>Series Ex's little brother, the Series S, a console that
<v Speaker 1>is caused some problems for developers in the past, and
<v Speaker 1>an interview with Eurogamer, CDPR avoided commenting on whether the
<v Speaker 1>Series S will meet its ambitious targets, which are for
<v Speaker 1>director Sebastian Kalimba gave the following comment. When asked of
<v Speaker 1>the game could be released on Series S, he said,
<v Speaker 1>I cannot right now tell you more specifics regarding that. Now,
<v Speaker 1>that's not an answer, So it's like no big reason
<v Speaker 1>for the like to assume that it wouldn't be on
<v Speaker 1>the Series S. I think in general, though, jan a
<v Speaker 1>certain point, there probably is a cutoff for that Series
<v Speaker 1>S that is before the Series X.
<v Speaker 3>Right, Yeah, I someone eventually is going to draw a line,
<v Speaker 3>and this may be one of the first rumblings of
<v Speaker 3>a game just straight up doing it right.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, my understanding is Xbox has a rule
<v Speaker 1>that if you put a game out on the Xbox
<v Speaker 1>Series X, it has to be on the Series S
<v Speaker 1>as well. But they've all they've began like putting cracks
<v Speaker 1>in that rule here or there where it had to
<v Speaker 1>be like feature, like each feature that in the one
<v Speaker 1>version on X has to be on S as well.
<v Speaker 1>And I think with Balder's Gate three, that's the one
<v Speaker 1>where the co op wasn't exactly gonna work. Maybe there
<v Speaker 1>was another game out there that was pretty similar. They're like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>we have to maybe like let people have a little
<v Speaker 1>bit more wiggle room so we can get all these
<v Speaker 1>games out on both consoles. At some point, like there's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be games that could run on Series X can't
<v Speaker 1>run on Series S no matter what. And I think
<v Speaker 1>at that point does Microsoft say, well, then you can't
<v Speaker 1>put the game out on Xbox Series X. That doesn't
<v Speaker 1>make any sense. So they just have to have You're right,
<v Speaker 1>that line in the sand and some game, probably not
<v Speaker 1>from first party but from third party, will be the
<v Speaker 1>first one to cross that, and that's just an inevitable
<v Speaker 1>and really at that point, I imagine when that happens,
<v Speaker 1>it could be around like a twenty twenty six time
<v Speaker 1>frame where potentially Microsoft could have their next step up console,
<v Speaker 1>whether that's a full next gen or some sort of
<v Speaker 1>pro model ready to go. So then the X kind
<v Speaker 1>of maybe by default becomes the S model and then
<v Speaker 1>the S just goes into the background.
<v Speaker 2>That does that make sense? That one hundred percent makes sense.
<v Speaker 3>It's very interesting also factoring in Microsoft's new strategy of like,
<v Speaker 3>that's an Xbox, that's an Xbox, but in this instance
<v Speaker 3>the thing that is an actual Xbox may not be
<v Speaker 3>an Xbox anymore.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, maybe that would be this is all an Xbox
<v Speaker 1>on but this is Xbox on it. That's not a
<v Speaker 1>fucking Xbox.
<v Speaker 2>How dare you not?
<v Speaker 1>Yep? Yeah, I mean this is people in Chadel like, yeah, Mi.
<v Speaker 1>Microsoft made things a little bit messy for themselves with this.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think the series S worked out the way
<v Speaker 1>that they were kind of hoping. I know it has
<v Speaker 1>sold pretty well all things considered, but it was not
<v Speaker 1>like the answer to the problem where they're like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>how do we kind of build a system that it's
<v Speaker 1>more appealing to a mass audience that's more price sensitive.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, well, you got the price sensitive gamers, the
<v Speaker 1>people who are like, they have a PS five, they
<v Speaker 1>have a PC, maybe they have a switch. Well, I'll
<v Speaker 1>get an Xbox Series ST because it's more affordable. And
<v Speaker 1>I could justify that got those people. The average person
<v Speaker 1>out there that is hesitating about spending any money on
<v Speaker 1>a console. Three hundred dollars was still kind of too expensive,
<v Speaker 1>and I think we're going to spend three hundred dollars
<v Speaker 1>on a system they got a switch. So the Series
<v Speaker 1>S just didn't work out the way I think they
<v Speaker 1>were hoping it wouldn't.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, uh yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So that's not to say as John's yeah, they would
<v Speaker 1>barely have a console business without the Series S. That's
<v Speaker 1>also fair. But it just didn't do all that they
<v Speaker 1>were hoping for. And I think we know that based
<v Speaker 1>on the recent ad campaign that you mentioned of everything
<v Speaker 1>is an Xbox. At one point it was supposed to
<v Speaker 1>be like, no, if you want an Xbox, get a
<v Speaker 1>Series S, and now it's like, just use your phone.
<v Speaker 1>Oh right, all right, last story. Here a roundup of
<v Speaker 1>reviews for Sonic the Hedgehog three of the film. They're
<v Speaker 1>in here from Liam Dulan at Nintendo Life. Sonic the
<v Speaker 1>Hedgehog's third big screen Outing arrives this week, and the
<v Speaker 1>critic reviews are now rolling in. The outing brings Shadow
<v Speaker 1>into the picture with a gun, and it seems if
<v Speaker 1>the reviews have mostly been enjoying the fun and family
<v Speaker 1>friendly action so far. Many reviews are also praising Jim
<v Speaker 1>Carrey's efforts, as well as the addition of Keanu Reeves.
<v Speaker 1>Variety said it was faster and more fun. Here's a
<v Speaker 1>pull quote from the review. The plot finds more room
<v Speaker 1>for Master Emerald, the superpowered jewel introduced in the last
<v Speaker 1>Sonic film, and foretals the Fox and Knuckles the Echidna,
<v Speaker 1>who are now part of Sonic's super Critter hero team.
<v Speaker 1>But the real star is Fowler's shape shifting filmmaking, which
<v Speaker 1>is deft enough to reveal rebel in blockbuster overkill and
<v Speaker 1>skewer it at the same time. GamesRadar Plus thought Sonic
<v Speaker 1>three was predictable but great fun ordinate three stars out
<v Speaker 1>of five. Sonic the Hedgehog three, then, is a piece
<v Speaker 1>of overstuffed franchise affair that's simple and predictable but great fun.
<v Speaker 1>Anchored by two great characters, Sonic and Robotnik. It's a
<v Speaker 1>family friendly adventure that does nothing to revolutionize the formula
<v Speaker 1>Flower has developed, but keeps the wheels turning fast enough
<v Speaker 1>to get everyone except I did for a sequel, and
<v Speaker 1>that seems to be how the rest of the reviews
<v Speaker 1>kind of go over it as well, Jane, where it's
<v Speaker 1>like it's between the ay, this is exactly what you want.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone that's involved here knows what they're doing. Everyone that's
<v Speaker 1>turning into performance is doing it in a fun and
<v Speaker 1>memorable way. And then it's it's just predictable. It's fine
<v Speaker 1>in a lot of other ways. That sounds completely acceptable
<v Speaker 1>to me. Jan how about you.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm not expecting something groundbreaking with a Sonic movie.
<v Speaker 3>Hearing it's Oh, that was a fun one. I think
<v Speaker 3>is going to be more than enough for families to
<v Speaker 3>head over to the movie theaters this holiday season. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I see. I don't think I was ever worried about
<v Speaker 3>Sonic three.
<v Speaker 1>Greb, Yes, Yeah, definitely, I think it was like that
<v Speaker 1>is going to maintain the level of quality that they've
<v Speaker 1>had with the first two movies almost assuredly and here
<v Speaker 1>we are not too surprising.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, I saw that Kristin Ritter is in this one.
<v Speaker 2>I'm a big fan.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, let's go love the writ absolutely, Yeah, it's this
<v Speaker 1>is Mike always says this. It's like they almost didn't
<v Speaker 1>make a billion dollars because they had that ugly sonic
<v Speaker 1>like it's it was such a important canonical moment in
<v Speaker 1>the history of this film series of they had a
<v Speaker 1>bad sonic and they like at the last minute changed it,
<v Speaker 1>and by doing that, they put out a film franchise
<v Speaker 1>that has made more than a billion dollars and will
<v Speaker 1>continue to make a lot of money and has TV shows.
<v Speaker 1>And it was all based on that, like that last
<v Speaker 1>minute panic because everyone was yelling at them that that
<v Speaker 1>was the ugliest character design they had ever seen. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>it's just a really funny thing to think about.
<v Speaker 2>Bullying work everybody.
<v Speaker 1>We did it. Everybody that we bullied them into making
<v Speaker 1>a billion dollars. Congratulations, which that wish that worked out
<v Speaker 1>for me when I was bullied.
<v Speaker 2>Mike, don't worry, I got you, Bud.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Uh, all right, it does it for the headlines.
<v Speaker 1>I got the pull question over here. I'll get that
<v Speaker 1>going right now. Make sure that that's going to be
<v Speaker 1>visible for everybody. Yeah, there it is. Okay, have you
<v Speaker 1>played Marvel Rivals? That was the one from nine days ago,
<v Speaker 1>so let's refresh here. Are you still playing Hell Divers two?
<v Speaker 1>I am not, although I'm curious about getting back into it.
<v Speaker 1>Seventy four percent of people said no, twenty six percent
<v Speaker 1>said yes. I think you know, it's pretty decent. Actually
<v Speaker 1>that a quarter of respondents are like, yeah, I'm still playing.
<v Speaker 1>This does seem like maybe a little bit of a
<v Speaker 1>self selection here of people who have played it before.
<v Speaker 1>Because one point four thousand people voted. Normally get around
<v Speaker 1>three thousand people voting, so these are people that probably
<v Speaker 1>did play Hell Divers too before, like no, I'm not.
<v Speaker 1>Seventy six percent said yes again, are you like? It's
<v Speaker 1>definitely a game I always want to go back to,
<v Speaker 1>But it also is like there's so much there that
<v Speaker 1>I'm like a little bit overwhelmed sometimes, Jan I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm in that overwhelmed camp where I don't know
<v Speaker 3>if any of my experience or any of my gear
<v Speaker 3>that I started with is still viable now. I know
<v Speaker 3>that a couple months into Hell Divers too, that you
<v Speaker 3>could still roll with your like default gear and be fine.
<v Speaker 3>But it feels like so much has happened Grubb. Yes,
<v Speaker 3>like there's robots and like ants and fire tornadoes. I
<v Speaker 3>think the fire tornadoes were forever ago, but there's like
<v Speaker 3>been several world changing events that have happened, and I'm
<v Speaker 3>very out.
<v Speaker 2>Of the loop.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and John Carson chat saying you can get just
<v Speaker 1>get by, just fine, just hop it and start playing. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I want to. I definitely want to play more of it,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like, man, I also want to go back
<v Speaker 1>and finish Space Marine two and play a bunch of
<v Speaker 1>other stuff. So hard to find the time, Grub.
<v Speaker 2>My biggest issue in my biggest problem right now is.
<v Speaker 1>Marvel Rivals. Yeah. Yeah, that was a lot of fun.
<v Speaker 1>I really enjoyed that game.
<v Speaker 3>I played more of it after we logged off, and
<v Speaker 3>I had fantastic time, even to myself.
<v Speaker 1>That's how you know it's it's actually fun is when
<v Speaker 1>you want to keep going back to it when we
<v Speaker 1>turn off the cameras. So yeah, pretty cool. All right,
<v Speaker 1>New Pole question, are you going to see Sonic three
<v Speaker 1>in theaters, yes or no. We will get the results
<v Speaker 1>of that here on Game This Morning. Is on Giant
<v Speaker 1>Bomb tomorrow, that'll be the last episode before the holidays.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, we'll get the results of the poll. Talk
<v Speaker 1>about on that show, I'm gonna have I think you're
<v Speaker 1>gonna have Eric van Allen come in and hang out
<v Speaker 1>with me, so ver Vanella will hang out for for
<v Speaker 1>that episode. Also speaking of Giant Bomb. Other things that
<v Speaker 1>are happening today, voicemail, dump truck, yes, sir. And then
<v Speaker 1>we will do Blake Club tomorrow.
<v Speaker 2>So love tomorrow.
<v Speaker 1>Indeed, Yeah, most of the stuff has arrived for Dan.
<v Speaker 1>He does. He knows his playing Terminators, so his outfit
<v Speaker 1>is showing up. Everybody. You're not gonna want to miss
<v Speaker 1>the reveal though. It'll be pretty funny. I'll just leather pants.
<v Speaker 1>I'll just say.
<v Speaker 2>The best part is he doesn't need to wear pants.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, exactly right, of course, that is yes, yes, that's
<v Speaker 1>always the best part is making the other the fellow
<v Speaker 1>Blake clubs uncomfortable with things that they don't need to
<v Speaker 1>wear because they don't really show up on camera. But yep,
<v Speaker 1>all right, looking forward to it, everybody, all right, anything
<v Speaker 1>else we should mention, Jan I can't remember.
<v Speaker 3>Game of the Year podcasts will be coming out over
<v Speaker 3>the holiday break. We're spacing them out every Tuesday and
<v Speaker 3>Thursday until all four episodes come out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so for the next two weeks. Yeah, yep, look
<v Speaker 1>out for that. And yep, like I said, last episode
<v Speaker 1>of Games Mornings before the holiday break, we'll come back
<v Speaker 1>after that. We'll get right back into things. So we'll
<v Speaker 1>see all that for that tomorrow. In the meantime, Jane Choa,
<v Speaker 1>thank you so much for hanging out with me today
<v Speaker 1>and talking about video games. Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>It's the only way to start a Thursday.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all.
<v Speaker 2>Oh.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, and I was on a podcast, that's right. I
<v Speaker 1>should mention this. Nineties Disney. They got it out real fast.
<v Speaker 1>Recorded this last night. I did my trip report with them.
<v Speaker 1>They would ask me a bunch of questions about Disney
<v Speaker 1>World and taking the family, and it was a lot
<v Speaker 1>of fun to kind of go over everything and talk
<v Speaker 1>about the talk about our thought process. And then we
<v Speaker 1>also did a trip report on me and Mike and
<v Speaker 1>Sean going to UH going to Universal Hollywood, so we
<v Speaker 1>talked about that as well. On nineties Disney so check
<v Speaker 1>that out.
<v Speaker 2>Mike, Mike manaughty, Can I do Disney World in five days?
<v Speaker 1>You do Disney World in five days? You can? I
<v Speaker 1>feel like you could do that in Fine. I think
<v Speaker 1>we had like five days of Disney and then six
<v Speaker 1>was universal. I think that's how it went down. Maybe
<v Speaker 1>we had six days of Disney all right, yeap, Mike says, sure.
<v Speaker 1>I believe in you, Jan, you can make it happen.
<v Speaker 1>All right. Uh, thank you, Jan, Thank you everybody for
<v Speaker 1>listening and watching. You're the best audience in gaming. Until
<v Speaker 1>next time, have a good one, take care of yourself,
<v Speaker 1>and goodbye. Go listen to nineties Disney
