Best of the Bus: Patriots Training Camp Tour Ft. Mike Vrabel, Drake Maye & More
In the summer, the boys went to New England for a Patriots training camp tour, and now, just months later, the Pats are in the Super Bowl. The guys sat down for a must-hear interview with Mike Vrabel, who had just taken over as the Patriots’ head coach. Vrabel opened up about his departure from the Titans, his brief stop in Cleveland, and what it was like stepping into the challenge of rebuilding New England’s culture. He also shared stories about Jameis Winston’s locker room energy and discussed his vision for the Patriots moving forward.
Next, the guys caught up with quarterback Drake Maye, who was entering his second year in the league, as he reflected on his rookie season, his NFL Draft experience, and what it was like becoming the starter midway through the year. Drake also talked about how Coach Vrabel kept him on his toes and helped him grow as a young quarterback.
Linebacker Robert Spillane joined the show to share his incredible journey from an NFL open tryout to earning a $33 million contract. Spillane reflected on his grind, his early years with the Titans, and the passion that kept him chasing his NFL dream.
To wrap up the Patriots stop, Mack Hollins joined the boys to explain why he never wears shoes, how a random meeting with Australians shifted his mindset, and how close he came to walking away from the game.
If you missed this one over the summer, it’s a must-listen. And if you already heard it, it’s definitely worth running back again. Enjoy, boys.

Yeah, shit canned. 00:02:24 Speaker 4: Yeah, go ahead, Taylor. 00:02:28 Speaker 2: Yeah, don't get scared now. Ye ask the hard stuff. Let's go back on my feet. 00:02:34 Speaker 1: What took place in that conversation that led because when the season ended everyone's like Brave was gonna get extension. The rumor is that Braves is now going to go from an eighth sheet to actually have a little more of a GM role as well, maybe a little more power in the building. And then you walked into a meeting and you walk down though I can know. 00:02:48 Speaker 2: That wasn't a meeting. That those aren't meetings. You just get fired. 00:02:51 Speaker 1: They just called you and fired you. 00:02:53 Speaker 2: No, you walk upstairs. Yeah, you just handle it. 00:02:56 Speaker 5: I just said give me an hour and I'll be out of here. I want to talk to my staff. 00:03:00 Speaker 4: I feel like you. You wouldn't be a fun guy to to fire. 00:03:03 Speaker 5: No, it was meant again, they make everybody makes decisions, and uh I any question. No, I got thet I got the point, So get the drift. 00:03:15 Speaker 1: So there was never like a hey, what do you think could have happened differently? 00:03:21 Speaker 5: No, no that at that point. No, there was no Again, it was no discussion. I heard the message and I just said, give me an hour. I like to talk to my staff and I'll box my stuff up. 00:03:34 Speaker 4: Just spin the cup. How close were you to coaching in college, because there are rumors. 00:03:42 Speaker 2: Throughout not very close, not very clear. 00:03:45 Speaker 4: There are rumors about you potentially being the defensive coordinator at Remember when I texted you, I was like, hey, yeah, no interest. 00:03:53 Speaker 2: And what I text I'd even text back. 00:03:55 Speaker 4: Or no, I forget what you No? 00:03:57 Speaker 2: Not very close. No. 00:03:59 Speaker 5: And I love time in Cleveland. Yeah, I mean I love being on the offensive side of the ball. I loved just getting back to coaching. Helped the old ligne. You'd have loved it. 00:04:08 Speaker 1: You were in there all the time telling guys to wall off on the backside of duo, getting just getting the way in. 00:04:14 Speaker 2: Backside, inside out, deuce, near foot. 00:04:17 Speaker 4: It was there anything during that time with Cleveland? You got to have it there at leverage. 00:04:23 Speaker 2: Man reach, you take them on an angle, you find them. 00:04:24 Speaker 1: Are you running the same offense in Cleveland? 00:04:26 Speaker 2: Uh? There were some similarities. Yeah. 00:04:29 Speaker 4: Was there a time like just having that year in Cleveland to where you found or reignited some passion that you had that when you were you were at first head coach, all the expectations, all the pressure, and then you kind of just go into a consulting role and kind of having more fun around Cleveland. 00:04:44 Speaker 5: I think that that's probably there's some truth to that. I think there's some reality to that. I think you realize that you miss it, you know, and that you want to do it, that there's nothing else that you want to do. 00:04:56 Speaker 4: Do you have What do you feel like you learned from the first time as a head coach now coming into New England. 00:05:01 Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I think we learned stuff every day. I mean, it's just there's gonna be things that come up every day. Situation, injuries, you know. I mean we always talk about distractions are unavoidable. It's how we we handle them. And so just staying flexible, staying consistent, you know, focusing on the guys that want to improve, that are taking a message, and those things that sometimes I let the you know, the small majority affect all all the other positive stuff. 00:05:32 Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd always say, you can't fuck up my Friday, but. 00:05:34 Speaker 5: Sometimes sometimes they try. No, I mean they tried, Taylor tried, and all everybody tried. 00:05:40 Speaker 2: I think sometimes. 00:05:43 Speaker 5: I probably did. But it was a good message. It was a good tagline. 00:05:47 Speaker 2: How did you do that? 00:05:48 Speaker 1: Development of you and Jamis Winston running at the start of every. 00:05:52 Speaker 5: Practice, So they would go routes on air, right, and then they would go and I was like, I can I mean, I could push these guys a little bit, just goofing around. 00:06:01 Speaker 2: I'd wait till the last guy throwing take off. 00:06:04 Speaker 5: Running and just trying to have some fun down there in the Greenbrier down in West Virginia. 00:06:10 Speaker 2: Have you ever seen what a spirit that guy has? 00:06:12 Speaker 1: I was going to ever met a guy you think. 00:06:15 Speaker 5: It's like, you know, two three days in this is a stick, right, yeah? Three five second a week, two weeks. You're like, it's impossible to stay in character this long. 00:06:25 Speaker 1: This is actually really this guy is all time. 00:06:29 Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm like, now this is just a stick, and I'm like, nope, this is I loved Its awesome. 00:06:35 Speaker 4: When did it feel like New England was going to be a real possibility for you? 00:06:38 Speaker 2: Well, I mean just going through the process of interviewing and having he's doing teams reach out, he's doing right now the coach talk. 00:06:47 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think after the after the season, like that's when it heats up, you know what I mean, That's when people. 00:06:54 Speaker 4: Call how about this? 00:06:54 Speaker 2: How about this? 00:06:55 Speaker 4: So we get so because the coach Yeah, yeah, the interview process, everything else. Then give are you leaving a good inn? Are you leaving like after you have a good interview, and you're just thinking, man, what if I become the head coach of the Patriots? Hey, three banners up there. You reminded us all the time to work. 00:07:13 Speaker 2: No, I didn't the league. You're not in every single cheer in this meeting with you guys. You guys rejuice it a little bit. 00:07:22 Speaker 1: Hey, listen, just stay in front of your guys. 00:07:24 Speaker 2: Listen. 00:07:24 Speaker 1: What do I know I've done before? 00:07:26 Speaker 2: No, that is not true. 00:07:27 Speaker 1: Myself imperserrate that. 00:07:29 Speaker 2: But but what are you talking about? 00:07:35 Speaker 4: But legit? Legit, like whether you're flying back or you're driving and you're just thinking, what if I'm the head coach of the New England Patriots? 00:07:42 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think that that goes through. And I think that the timing was right. And had opportunity to come back here probably prior as an assistant, I didn't feel like that was something that I wanted to do or that was what was best for me at that particular time. And then I think the time was was right. 00:08:01 Speaker 1: Was the interview process a little bit different with the Patriots because you have the relationship with Craft called them up, say hey, what do you think? 00:08:07 Speaker 5: No, I mean, they were all about they were all about the same. Yeah, I mean as far as actually I met with Chicago, met with the Jets, and then met with the Patriots, and had talked to other teams, but didn't end up taking those interviews. 00:08:22 Speaker 1: Did any other teams offer you. 00:08:25 Speaker 2: Offer without an interview? 00:08:27 Speaker 1: No, like you end up talking to those couple of other teams. 00:08:30 Speaker 5: Oh No, I mean I think that that after meeting here, I think that it happened pretty quick over the next couple of days. 00:08:36 Speaker 1: When you go out to practice and it's like, you know, fans can come in the gen pops watching, they're excited. Do you ever hear anything about the twenty nineteen season when you Bill Belichick's Bill Belichick? 00:08:47 Speaker 5: No, I mean I don't hear anything about that specifically from the fans. 00:08:51 Speaker 2: Yeah. I meant people are excited. 00:08:54 Speaker 5: I'm glad that they're excited and they come out and it's it's a good environment. We had a bunch of fans in the stadium on Friday. That'd be a bunch up there today. They heard you guys were coming. 00:09:03 Speaker 4: They did, Yeah, they did tweet. 00:09:08 Speaker 2: I hooked up with your boy Frank. You ever interview Frank the Tank? Yeah? Yeah, how smart? 00:09:14 Speaker 4: He's an encyclopedia. 00:09:15 Speaker 2: I mean it was like just couth. 00:09:18 Speaker 4: Times you're walking, You're like where you know, where might this go? 00:09:20 Speaker 2: We just talked sports. 00:09:22 Speaker 4: Yeah, he is an encyclopedia. 00:09:24 Speaker 2: Knew everything about all the about the ages that I grew up in brown back then. 00:09:28 Speaker 4: Every crazy everything that was fun. 00:09:33 Speaker 2: What else? Kids? Everybody good? 00:09:34 Speaker 4: Everybody's great. Man, everybody's great. You've done what you've done? 00:09:38 Speaker 2: It too? Or how many more? We haven't. 00:09:39 Speaker 4: Uh, we're up in the air right now. But we're open to a third one. We're open to a third one. 00:09:44 Speaker 2: I was the La Wan crew. Do you guys go to Canada? 00:09:46 Speaker 1: Went to Canada? Just got back on the twenty first win. Willow turned eight and five. So when does wash Harry Potter for the first time? Yesterday before we gotten the plane. 00:09:55 Speaker 2: What's that maker set? Third grade? Yeah? 00:09:58 Speaker 1: Third well, second grade. 00:09:59 Speaker 2: Second grade? 00:10:00 Speaker 5: Hold back, held her back, the little one, little wand brain. 00:10:04 Speaker 2: Starts reading a little bit. 00:10:05 Speaker 1: I said, I think to myself, and you know what, we're gonna do you the favor that never happened for me, and we're gonna hold you back a little bit. 00:10:09 Speaker 2: Good get you there. 00:10:11 Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's it's tough. Because you risk you go again. You get three girls. It's Tony Do Yeah, yeah, yeah, and he's. 00:10:20 Speaker 1: The guy that chased. He was obviously chasing the boy got the twos. 00:10:23 Speaker 2: We'll do one more. Yeah, we'll have a little football player, okay or not? 00:10:27 Speaker 1: Yeah and again yeah, kids, just get it right like you did the first time and second. 00:10:30 Speaker 2: Time and the second time. The boys. Tyler's actually a BC helping out O line in turn. 00:10:35 Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you helped out in the spring and then they asked him to come back help for the season. 00:10:40 Speaker 2: So he's grinding, figuring out that figuring out the old uh grind. 00:10:46 Speaker 5: Yeah, like just the whole like you know, when you play, you you don't worry about you see the diagrams, right, you don't realize where those run diagrams came from or where the defense? 00:10:56 Speaker 2: Yeah right. And so it's on visio and he's like that. 00:10:59 Speaker 5: The first time I said, hey, all the film all these cards on visio, he goes, I was there for four hours. I think I got three cards done. He's like, there's got to be a better way for this. And then he figured it out, and you know, and then Carter's back in Nashville. 00:11:13 Speaker 2: How often is Tyler looking for a job? What is he doing? He looks looking for a job. 00:11:19 Speaker 5: He graduated from Tennessee Tech, played baseball, and uh is looking for a job. 00:11:24 Speaker 2: The pats. No, he's not coming. He's not leaving Nashville. 00:11:27 Speaker 1: He's not saying you. 00:11:29 Speaker 4: Know, he ain't trying to get No. 00:11:31 Speaker 2: He he loves Nashville. He killed me up here for the games. But he just a room. 00:11:35 Speaker 1: He went for a summer and was like hanging out. He would it was awesome. 00:11:39 Speaker 2: He know, he's passed chasing jocks around everything else, laundry. Is Tyler? 00:11:44 Speaker 4: Does he pick your brain a lot on the. 00:11:46 Speaker 2: You know, he was asking about coverages. 00:11:48 Speaker 5: As an offensive lineman, I think as a young one, you don't really worry too much about coverage, and now that he's drawing cards, he just wants to know, you know, coverages and rotation and whether the week's safety is down or the week's safeties suring. Is he outside the end? You know, all the things that we would talk about. You know, I think he's just understanding the game. I think he's excited about helping young players. He was a developmental player and so he's like, I get to work with the threes. There's some young guys that I think have potential, So I think that there's some excitement there from from helping those guys. 00:12:21 Speaker 4: Does he want to coach coach with you one day? 00:12:23 Speaker 5: I don't know about that, you know, I mean, I just I think he wants to see if he wants to coach and if he's willing to go on this journey. 00:12:29 Speaker 1: What was the conversation like with him, because I was before before we're going, I was trying to catch up on what he was up to. Huh, And I just saw that July thirtieth, he was on injury reserve in twenty twenty four, I assumed, like, okay, he's out. 00:12:39 Speaker 5: So he and Tyler just decided that he didn't want to do to practice squad again. That had been his, you know, his decision, and again I that's that was his path, and I think he realized that he you know, missed football, loved football, wanted to be around it, and finished his degree and in the process of doing that helped out in the spring, and then you know, they asked him to come back for the season. 00:13:04 Speaker 1: Was there any type of conversation between you and him where you're like, yeah, I know, you don't want to the practice squad again. 00:13:08 Speaker 2: There was there was like a coach and a dad conversation. 00:13:11 Speaker 1: Gotta wear different hats. I'm sure that was a tough for you to go back and forth. 00:13:15 Speaker 2: Well it wasn't. I think a while ago it had. 00:13:17 Speaker 5: I mean, I told you there were some things that I regretted, you know, growing up when they were growing up. There was things that I regretted the way that I handled it and was, you know, borderline embarrassed with things that, you know, just not being able to differentiate the coach and the being demanding. And then Dad and so, by the grace of God, got past that and had another opportunity, and so it was a good conversation. It was, Hey, here's what I would say to you as from a coaching perspective. 00:13:47 Speaker 2: Here's what I would say to you as a dad. 00:13:49 Speaker 5: And so he made his decision and I think he's really happy about it, and uh, you know see where this goes. This coaching thing goes for him. Yeah, like Tyler dude, Oh he don't, Yeah, he's harmless. 00:14:03 Speaker 2: The other one the. 00:14:06 Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna he's gonna catch fire here. 00:14:08 Speaker 5: So plenty of ink and there you know. I mean they they love the ink guy. I mean they could thank Taylor for for hooking him up. Joey, Right, joe here's in town this past week. 00:14:17 Speaker 6: He is right. 00:14:18 Speaker 4: Anytime Joey's in town, I feel like Carter's over there. 00:14:20 Speaker 1: So at first it was I think you were like, hey, Carter wants to get some mank you got a guy. He comes in right, So we kind of got them hooked up, and then eventually it became Joey text me and be like, Hey, I'm coming into Nashville for a weekend. 00:14:31 Speaker 2: What you're doing here is like Tyler had him come to Atlanta too for a couple of guys. 00:14:34 Speaker 1: Like, yeah, Joey's just out there doing mercenary work for other guys. 00:14:39 Speaker 4: I got a question for you. You are you're big on culture and painting a clear vision, whether it's a weekly game plan or whether you're coming in for the first time as a head coach and kind of painting how the organization is going to be. What is the best advice you've received on building culture, whether you've been a fly on the wall witnessing something, or you've kind of learned in conversation with the former Code. 00:15:02 Speaker 2: Uh, here's what I've learned. 00:15:03 Speaker 5: I've learned that we can have different personalities, we can't have different mentalities, and sometimes what's that buddy, that's a bar? I just sometimes get caught up that we don't that that people may be different than me. I think I struggled with that early on, and and now I've realized that if the mentality is the same how they maybe act off the field or what their personality is, or they may not be you know, I would say that we all kind of have this similar personality right pretty close, but there's a lot of people and players that are successful that don't. And I have to be okay with that if ultimately their mentality is about the culture that that we want to have here, And I think that's what I've learned. 00:15:46 Speaker 4: Would you say that's what you've learned, is that growing pace as a head coach is that more earlier in your assistant coaching. 00:15:53 Speaker 5: No, I mean I think as a head like as a head coach, right, whether it's you know, just players that have different persons now he's but still got their job done and did it the way that we asked them to do it. You have to be okay with you know kind of what their vibe is just walking around let them. Yeah, they got to be them. 00:16:13 Speaker 4: You excited to have CARDI be a couple of games this year. 00:16:15 Speaker 2: I don't know. I thought that. I don't know. I haven't seen her yet. I haven't. Well, I'm sure we'll double. 00:16:22 Speaker 1: Sure you are Friday out there. 00:16:28 Speaker 2: We'll see. 00:16:29 Speaker 1: There's a level of excitement when you heard one of your players dating a famous lady, like, oh, we have our own Taylor Swift. 00:16:33 Speaker 2: Now, yeah, I guess so, I mean, I don't you know, I don't you. 00:16:39 Speaker 1: See the revenue from this past year sixteen billion extra in revenue. Yeah, and I started trending upwards in Kansas City. 00:16:45 Speaker 2: When you know, I don't know. I mean, I'll see that. 00:16:48 Speaker 5: I mean I try to meet everybody's family that comes, and a lot of people come out. 00:16:51 Speaker 2: If she's here, I'll say hi. I don't see how that goes fair enough? 00:16:55 Speaker 1: You there was a big we talked about this on the podcast. Is twenty eighteen Rapes was a lot different than twenty twenty two rapes. What vrabel are? You are the Newland Patriots players getting are like because you go walk into a place that has those banners on the Wallay. 00:17:11 Speaker 2: Somewhere between those two. 00:17:13 Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think you just learn and again you're just trying to set things and make sure that again there's there's an individual role that the players trying to create, and then there's the the idea of building a team, and I have to try to combine those two, right, So do you evaluate treatment and culture those things like if you. 00:17:35 Speaker 1: Walked in the Titans facility and the culture was very like all over the place, very sporadic. We didn't really have an identity of who we were when you walked into here, was there? Like, did you get the same sense of like culture? 00:17:46 Speaker 2: I needed to. 00:17:48 Speaker 5: I felt like it was important to make sure that all those systems and the programs and everybody around the players was sound, right, that that was there was a structure there, that the support systems was sound and cleaned up. And then we focused on the players, you know, because the players aren't. 00:18:05 Speaker 2: Around in February. 00:18:06 Speaker 5: Everybody's gone, so it's like operations and and video and equipment and training and player engagement, all these things that were set up that I wanted the players when they came back that they were you know, they were they liked what they saw. They believed in the program that we were building. And then and then now we're we're focused on the on the football side of it. 00:18:27 Speaker 1: When you're going and you get the call and you're like, I'm gonna be the head coach of the New England Patriots. Were you essentially like Ron Bergen getting the band back together when you went and got stretched and Frank and all the boys popping up, rolled over, rolling. 00:18:41 Speaker 5: Over, and I was, you know, some of those guys you can get. Some of them you can't. Some guys are under contract. But again, those people are important to me and I hope to the players we had. 00:18:56 Speaker 2: They were part of our success. 00:18:58 Speaker 5: And certainly, you know Stretches, he already has had a feature article in the Boston Globe. 00:19:05 Speaker 2: There's another one coming down the pipe. I heard. 00:19:10 Speaker 1: He's starting to feel himself a little bit right next to yours. He's looking for a window. 00:19:15 Speaker 5: He's getting a window. We're building a new building. You got a window next door. 00:19:18 Speaker 1: That article came out. 00:19:19 Speaker 5: Those are his demands, but no, he's he's, uh, you know how important Stretches and the best you know, Frank and and and Ryan and all the assistant coaches were able to get Big Tea and Hass. I think Hass does a fantastic job. The old line room has got three good coaches in there. So just trying to give the players everything that they need. And you know, we're big on connection and we think that's important and and hopefully we can continue to do that. 00:19:45 Speaker 4: How about Bob Splaine, Bobby getting another stint with Bobsplaine, him being undrafted. 00:19:52 Speaker 2: I told him the other day. I told him the other day. 00:19:54 Speaker 5: I was like, I said, after you knocked the ship out of Derek, I said, if. 00:19:58 Speaker 2: You stop hitting. He's like, what do you tell you? Get serious? 00:20:02 Speaker 5: You remember when he smoked Derek on and so then I was like, actually smoked Derek. I said, you haven't hit anybody since then. He's like, what do you I was like, dude, I said, you're too easy man, just for that because I was just He's like, you try to get my blood. 00:20:15 Speaker 2: Pressure on all the time. 00:20:19 Speaker 4: But that's been awesome to see he signed what like a thirty three million dollars deal. 00:20:23 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean everybody's got their own journey to the National Football League and. 00:20:27 Speaker 2: You've used Yeah, we don't care how you got here. All we came about is what you do when you're here. I cut your aspect. 00:20:35 Speaker 5: It was a rookie mini camp tryout. Yeah, and those are like you're doing those. It's like favors, Like get the guy a hat and a T shirt and send him on his way. 00:20:43 Speaker 2: And now here he is. 00:20:44 Speaker 1: Just came in doing his thing. Contract got Harold. Who is Jack? 00:20:49 Speaker 2: Doctor Gibbons, doctor doctor Gibby. 00:20:51 Speaker 5: Yeah, what's crazy? Now we have a Gibson and a Gibbons. We have Antonio Gibson. So it's Gibby and doctor Gibby. 00:21:02 Speaker 2: Jack's got the doctors. Get every answer in the book that. 00:21:06 Speaker 1: You Every year around this time you pop up a film this ship that gets you beat film from the year prior. What are like three or four key plays you saw on last season that you pull up in the screen. You're like, guys, this is the ship that gets you beat. 00:21:21 Speaker 5: Oh, not being able to take advantage of bad football, right, two minute execution, those are big ones. 00:21:27 Speaker 2: Guys throwing the ball to the. 00:21:29 Speaker 5: Official, you know, celebrating after a gain as the clocks ticking and you're thirty yards from field goal range, ball security, right, all those things. I mean, it's the same stuff. It is the same, the same stuff. Just try to build an identity around our effort in a way that we finish, you know, I think Taylor will remember it's hard to finish when you're looking back for the ball or you're directing traffic and all those things. 00:21:55 Speaker 2: We talk about it. 00:21:58 Speaker 5: But taking care of the football right, being able to take care of football. I still think fundamentals are important. I think technique is important, offensive lines of technical position, you know, and then again, whether it's don't do dumb shit to hurt the team or a softer, gentler version is making great decisions on and off the field. 00:22:20 Speaker 2: I don't know. 00:22:21 Speaker 5: We had some opportunities to have a scrimmage on Friday. Guys got excited, you know, taunting three fifteen yards, pointing in somebody's face, you know, throwing the guns up, all that stuff, just things that you know, it would just it's hard to be that good for all that stuff to not matter. That stuff has to matter, and we'll get there. I'm confident that we will. 00:22:48 Speaker 4: There's always some good Friday tape. 00:22:51 Speaker 5: Yeah, we're not there yet. We're so far from Friday tape, just because you know, we're at the ground floor yeah, you know, we'll break out. The first one, we we did have a good meeting. 00:23:02 Speaker 2: We split the teams up. 00:23:03 Speaker 5: We had a draft, and we put together like a draft reveal, right for this scrimmage off Friday night. We had like a draft reveal. So we split the coaches up, had two separate head coaches. They drafted stretching. I were like the commissioners of the draft, and then they had we put all these funny pictures of these guys from high school and all this other stuff. And I was like Johnny Carson going through like on the reveal, and they had the draft music, and I mean, the guys had fun like something. Remember when you didn't know if I was like joking or not joking. So I would be like, you can laugh. 00:23:36 Speaker 2: It's like we're still at the stage. 00:23:41 Speaker 5: We're still there where I'm like that if it's funny, laugh, And I mean I kind of go back and forth and they're not sure when I go to the joke, so I let it loose. 00:23:51 Speaker 2: The other day, a lot of laughs. 00:23:53 Speaker 4: And it was because you'll be caught in the middle of a you're breaking down film and team meetings and your roast, and then it's like you know, you're like holding in your laughter because like this is a serious moment. Then when you throw a joke, it's like, yeah, then laugh right. 00:24:11 Speaker 1: Because you will. You do like to flip on a dime on a swim, Right, you'd be like, Taylor, what were we doing here? We pay you how much? I'm like, this is awful. You're terrible and everyone terrible, and you'll be like saying all these things. You'll be like doing your podcast with your boy will right, Well, yeah, what do we what are we doing? So you get it's a it's it's a process. It's a process. 00:24:39 Speaker 2: How many shows are you guys traveling a lot? Oh? 00:24:42 Speaker 4: Yeah? 00:24:43 Speaker 2: Where were you before this? 00:24:45 Speaker 4: So we had some time off. 00:24:47 Speaker 1: We we knocked out tight ending you at the last week of gym, and so then I went to Canada. 00:24:51 Speaker 2: You guys were basically the ball boys for that thing. Weren't you run around? Yeah? Whatever they needed. 00:24:57 Speaker 1: Water, No job too big, no job too small. 00:25:00 Speaker 2: Wow. 00:25:02 Speaker 5: I mean it just looked like, I mean, every every clip you guys were there like with water towels. 00:25:08 Speaker 2: It was hot. 00:25:09 Speaker 4: We're there to serve, man. 00:25:10 Speaker 2: I looked like it you were serving. We're giving back to the youth ball washing. 00:25:17 Speaker 4: You said, Taylor, so is gonna be there here? 00:25:19 Speaker 1: We can we can we hang out, we can hang up, we can. 00:25:21 Speaker 2: Open we can sure, we'll go cameras there. Okay, good? 00:25:25 Speaker 4: Can we bring Yeah? 00:25:28 Speaker 2: And then what other teams you've been to? Any other teams? 00:25:31 Speaker 4: You're first one. 00:25:32 Speaker 2: Then we got made the voyage. Uh, this is it Virgin territory. 00:25:36 Speaker 4: He was always once. Once you got hired, it was circled. We gotta get it. 00:25:39 Speaker 5: It's funny back up, like all you have to do is just text daddy. 00:25:45 Speaker 2: I'll text you back. Whether you guys can come, that's jokes. 00:25:50 Speaker 4: But we met the draft. We we texted or we met Victoria out at the draft. She was awesome, Veronica. Oh, Veronica, I'm so sorry. 00:25:57 Speaker 2: That was. 00:25:59 Speaker 1: It's our Hey, you're gonna you're gonna muscle through that. But we met them at the draft and they were really excited. They were obviously seemed like you may have been talking about saying some nice things. 00:26:07 Speaker 2: So we were like, I showed that clip. 00:26:09 Speaker 5: Where will you showed them the clip that I sent about the cost fumble on the goal line? 00:26:15 Speaker 4: Oh? 00:26:15 Speaker 2: Yeah, I told him about it. 00:26:17 Speaker 4: I didn't run a meeting and show them. I wanted to, but you showed the team. 00:26:20 Speaker 2: No, I didn't show the team though. 00:26:21 Speaker 1: You showed any man reaches. Yeah, man reaches from like. 00:26:25 Speaker 2: I don't know, like we had a POD's drill in there. 00:26:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, probably not good then yeah. 00:26:31 Speaker 5: Oh you know what, it showed a fit drill and and you got over extended and you got jerked. 00:26:35 Speaker 2: Remember the FID drill though rock set. 00:26:38 Speaker 1: Which we can be honest with you now that we're on the other side. Yeah, I think that's a dumb drill. 00:26:42 Speaker 2: I don't. I think the past is good, right because. 00:26:45 Speaker 1: Again you're staying level. I'm never in the special. 00:26:49 Speaker 5: No, you're talking about not on the not on the cutoff, not on like just the rock set right where we snap out. 00:26:56 Speaker 1: Also also a dumb drill. 00:26:58 Speaker 2: Again because you got over extend ended and then got jerked. It wasn't a dumb drill. Its bad techniques because if you and I are. 00:27:04 Speaker 1: Both going at each other, we're going and we're fitting and then we're setting. But they already know what's happening, and then as soon as I say it. 00:27:10 Speaker 2: Right, but I didn't say get over extended, didn't get no shoulders out over the. 00:27:17 Speaker 1: Create hands and side. 00:27:18 Speaker 2: The jerk and the transition, and you on my you on my base to be a little wit. But yeah, a little bit more of a yeah you were kind of not over your skis over. 00:27:26 Speaker 1: But you did show did you show any man reaches? 00:27:30 Speaker 2: I mean, I think we showed you could do this? You did? Yeah, a couple of pools out on the corner. 00:27:42 Speaker 5: His highlights were like talking ship to a corner back that was thirty five years old. Yeah, run it again, tell her we can only run so many toss cracks. 00:27:50 Speaker 2: Again. I don't know how you get on the corner. Sorry, I don't know how you get on the corner. Truck get over. We're going to get you on the task. Many times. You have to walk the end a couple of times. 00:28:01 Speaker 1: No, no, it's not left. Yeah. All I loved it perimeter playing man, It was just fun to kind of be out there feel like an athlete for a little bit. 00:28:10 Speaker 4: It was nice. 00:28:12 Speaker 5: What have you seen from remember that the tie Sambrello four I cut off. I was like, this is how we're supposed to do it. Everybody actually great on the four. I know, great on the four. I So we're showing some of that. We showed you on the backside. Thanks getting vertical. You know, Cincinnati stretch cut behind you. 00:28:29 Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, you know you just I just don't call you and tell you every time. 00:28:33 Speaker 1: You just hope you made enough. 00:28:35 Speaker 5: Showed Will Slice in the seven clinic tape. 00:28:42 Speaker 1: He didn't think to catch the ball playing slice in the seven real quick for the viewers that are sitting. 00:28:46 Speaker 2: Here just transitioning out job, we were mugged up too. 00:28:49 Speaker 4: We were down to the line of scrimmage and they had you know, it was double double near a gun or weeks side side and running back went flat. So you just know, is about the run of seven round we're in ot we're trying to make We're trying to win this game. Yeah, third down and around the sticks. Once I saw the flat rode, I'm like, oh, I'm going to slice up under Sam Inside, I'm trying to go through the low hip to slice underneath the tight end. 00:29:10 Speaker 2: Slice it. 00:29:11 Speaker 4: Ball hits me in the hands, I drop it. However, third down we're off the field, we go down. Corey Davis catches a touchdown. 00:29:17 Speaker 2: We all celebrate in the corner for. 00:29:19 Speaker 1: The Yeah, the boys. 00:29:23 Speaker 2: That was crazy. Yeah, that game. 00:29:24 Speaker 1: What you need to do Mitch on that clip is you just need to have it on faces he was talking because you could just see the smile. Will Is explaining the tires. Yeah, proud, very proud. 00:29:35 Speaker 2: But we had You've. 00:29:37 Speaker 5: Heard the story of his his recruiting trip, right, we had breakfast at the hotel, and then we basically did the deal I was thinking about. You know, we basically negotiated that contract over breakfast, me and you an agent, right, yeah, but it just it wasn't a very big contract. 00:29:54 Speaker 4: That was the most the most I had in my career though. 00:29:57 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so that was bad season. 00:30:00 Speaker 4: Yeah, you were thrown out. Nichols was in the first round. I'm sitting at a bar in German Town. I'm like, fuck me, yeah, yeah, I don't know what time. 00:30:08 Speaker 1: It is going back to the draft. Ye, and I'm sure I'll get a very probably, Yeah, I'll get the answer we're probably all expecting to get. 00:30:17 Speaker 2: When the A. J. 00:30:18 Speaker 1: Brown trade happened. Yeah, there you see the video, you see you stand. 00:30:21 Speaker 2: Up, I mean listen that that is. 00:30:24 Speaker 1: But also before as long as I'm the head coach of this team major. 00:30:27 Speaker 5: But I didn't want to obviously, nobody wanted to have him walk out of there, you know, I mean the contractual terms weren't going to you know, it just it didn't work out, and it's disappointing. 00:30:38 Speaker 2: The thing that I am most proud. 00:30:40 Speaker 5: Of is just still the relationship with AJ and players that I've coached, whether it be you guys or or other players that you know, continue to to text or check in on or just think about when they're in the summer or what they're doing, or their families or you see that they're having kids. Like I think that's that's important, and I'm glad that that's still something that that that happens, right, that there's still some sort of relationship after, you know, after coaching them. 00:31:11 Speaker 4: Allegedly, there's some footage out there of Will Campbell. You're getting put on your back from a Will Campbell. 00:31:24 Speaker 2: Happened. 00:31:25 Speaker 5: I mean, I'm almost fifty, I'll be fifty, and I don't know, twelve days, ten days. 00:31:30 Speaker 1: Did you expect that though? 00:31:31 Speaker 2: No? 00:31:32 Speaker 5: I just you know, I mean it was a four eye, right, I was going into four eye and it was the backside cut off and he got going and I caught my foot. I didn't get my second step in the ground, Like what am I gonna do. I'll back up like we were getting knocked out. 00:31:44 Speaker 2: I loved it too. Did you sad that I loved it? I just was like, that was a good rap. But I just, you know, give him a pat. I mean, get back on the line. Let's go. Yeah, I mean you. 00:31:53 Speaker 1: Got to get one back, extra heart on that next one. 00:31:58 Speaker 2: I mean, it happened. It's not like he was more. 00:32:00 Speaker 1: Three next time. We got to shade it in a little. 00:32:03 Speaker 2: Bit, pad back. It's not It's not like, you know, I was fine. I popped back up. Everybody else thought, you know what I mean, I thought it was a bigger deal than I did. 00:32:13 Speaker 1: You're seeing a lesser man would have stayed down. 00:32:15 Speaker 2: I mean he had never done that to me. Yeah, you're right. I mean it was a good It was a good block. 00:32:23 Speaker 5: He got into it, got the backhand and the stern him and I didn't get my second stuff on the ground, and I asked over tea kettle. 00:32:30 Speaker 1: Yeah, it was like six seven yards. 00:32:32 Speaker 2: It was. 00:32:32 Speaker 1: It was awesome to see. We need that clip. 00:32:35 Speaker 2: Have you seen it? He showed it to us, But Will showed you at the clip, somebody. 00:32:41 Speaker 1: He showed you haven't seen anything. 00:32:43 Speaker 2: He has it on his phone. We haven't seen JP. He was probably all gassed up. I'll get him back, don't worry. 00:32:51 Speaker 1: That's what I'm afraid. 00:32:52 Speaker 2: He was. He where's it? Will He was, gasp, he's a boys. 00:32:58 Speaker 4: Once I get done with this little a two minutes you, I'm Sorry'm laying it all out there. Willie. Well, he said, once I get done, I gotta show you guys a clip that I think you'll enjoy it. 00:33:06 Speaker 2: Yeah, And he hit me over there. 00:33:07 Speaker 1: I was like, I'm gonna start to walk out, and we're like, hey, you said you had a clip for us, Like, oh yeah, I'm like, I don't him over How are you trying to get it out? 00:33:19 Speaker 2: Man? 00:33:20 Speaker 1: Come in? 00:33:21 Speaker 2: They laid it on the line. They laid it on the line for me. I gotta go on the show. You got to come on the show. 00:33:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, have fun. 00:33:32 Speaker 2: I just wanted to. Oh you don't want to? Oh, okay, that's fine. We only have for I think we Stacey's got the time limit. It's time. 00:33:43 Speaker 4: How about Tory at the time we have uh, Veronica, come on, sorry. 00:33:49 Speaker 2: I got I got local medium bud light. 00:33:53 Speaker 4: You know how everybody, anybody would do anything for a bud light, a nice cold bud light. What would coach for. 00:33:58 Speaker 2: A no free shout out? 00:34:00 Speaker 4: What would coach Rable do anything for? 00:34:04 Speaker 5: I can't say family, can't say family. I mean obviously another banner up there, Like, that's what you do. 00:34:11 Speaker 4: For that banner. 00:34:12 Speaker 2: We've we've discussed this already. 00:34:14 Speaker 1: Well yeah, but what else? 00:34:18 Speaker 2: What else would I do? Yeah? For the banner, I'm gonna work every day. I meant cutting off any more appendages, you know what I mean? 00:34:27 Speaker 5: Like, that's that's why we're doing this, you know, other than to provide for our families, it's to to win championships. Like you guys know this spiel. We've been through this. You guys are trained. You guys are trained. 00:34:39 Speaker 2: Rats. 00:34:39 Speaker 1: Would you cut it? 00:34:41 Speaker 4: He already said on the second one, he's well. 00:34:44 Speaker 1: Yeah, because we went to the AMC Championship. 00:34:46 Speaker 5: When he said, that's it, boys, I want an honest evaluation of practice. 00:34:50 Speaker 2: What I gotta gotta Can I tell you something? 00:34:52 Speaker 5: I want an honest evaluation of practice. Obviously, and if I'm missing anything, let me know. 00:34:57 Speaker 4: You know, obviously you got to create the evidence and build the legacy and everything else. But I'm legitimately so juiced that you were the head coach of the Patriots just because you were a hell of a player at Ohio State. You're a health of player in the league with the three banners and the three Super Bowls. And I hope, I hope, hang on, hang on. 00:35:14 Speaker 2: This one's for Jin too. 00:35:15 Speaker 4: I hope you take time to just have perspective of how fucking cool. 00:35:20 Speaker 5: I appreciate that. I will try to stop and smell the roses along the way. I hope you guys come back for a game. Promise, Can I get a Can I get a headset? 00:35:30 Speaker 4: I'll stay out of the way. You have stretches, Okay, Drake May, welcome the bust with the boys. You know, keep you set him up, You set it up. 00:35:45 Speaker 2: No, okay, Drake May. 00:35:47 Speaker 7: What's going on? How you doing hanging in there? 00:35:50 Speaker 4: Yeah? Right, Oh dude, we're doing great. 00:35:53 Speaker 1: Josh Allen vibes already off the top. I'll be honest with you. You got a nice little person player. Give me the team keys when you're talking to the media, talking to the media, yeah, pervorable team keys. 00:36:06 Speaker 2: Yeah, in the media. 00:36:07 Speaker 7: Yeah, speak for myself. 00:36:08 Speaker 2: Yep. 00:36:09 Speaker 7: No talking about injuries, that's correct. Don't talking about expectations, right, don't talk about scheme. 00:36:15 Speaker 1: Don't talk about scheme. 00:36:16 Speaker 2: Is there another one? You're on it? 00:36:18 Speaker 1: You seem like there was one more. I feel like all of them. 00:36:21 Speaker 7: No comparisons is the same. It's kind of expectations comparison, No comparison thing same one. 00:36:28 Speaker 1: Oh yeah, do you see yourself a lot in Josh Allen? Do you guys think you're very similar? Football players? Both mobile, tall, handsome. 00:36:38 Speaker 7: You know the quarterbacks? Uh, you know, he's the m v P. I think the comparisons are. I got a lot of work to do, you know, with kind of even give me in the same you know, stratosphere or atmosphere as Josh. So luckily in the division, so we have got some good matchups I'm looking forward to. But really, comparisons, I'm just trying to be myself and hey, at the end of the day, some people think that, I mean, that's a lot of respect for him, But at that I allow work to do for that. 00:37:05 Speaker 1: Let's pivot real quick on the sports though. I'm apologize for interrupting you. Will you and Josh Allen one on one pick up basketball? Who's winning that game? 00:37:14 Speaker 7: I think myself as a hooping yea and hoops for sure. 00:37:17 Speaker 1: Who do you think Josh Allen the night before the draft was in a YMCA playing pick up basketball. 00:37:22 Speaker 4: Did Pat tell you that we have our sources exact time? What are we talking about? 00:37:27 Speaker 1: So Drake the day it was in Detroit? Correct, the day before he gets drafted first round pick by the New England Patriots. He's at an indoor gym at a YMCA, playing pick up basketball with a bunch of gen pop. 00:37:42 Speaker 2: Just trying to get war your stats. What was your numbers? 00:37:44 Speaker 7: My brothers were in there, so we had some good competition. But just get the nerves and you're going, you know, you and the will Yeah, you know kind of being at the draft. 00:37:54 Speaker 6: I'm not sure. 00:37:55 Speaker 2: You get nervous. 00:37:56 Speaker 1: You get nervous whether you get whether you're there where the draft's happening or you're sitting at home and doesn't matter. 00:38:00 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I was nerds. I have nerds for three days. Disappointment. 00:38:06 Speaker 1: Was there a piece of you ever throughout? Like when you're going to the draft process of day one hit, you're like, what if though. 00:38:12 Speaker 4: One hundred percent, I want to say Bill Belichick got some projected guy. He was like in the lower rounds, and he drafted him in the second round and on the first on the first night, the Chargers called me being like I kind of forget what the how the conversation went, but. 00:38:26 Speaker 2: I'm like, maybe I'm a Day two guy. 00:38:28 Speaker 1: No ship. 00:38:29 Speaker 2: Then they drafted damn man. He was a great player. I played longer, but he's a great player. 00:38:37 Speaker 1: Yeah he had the build though, Yeah he had stirred on him. Sturdy, were you surprised if the Patriots drafted you. 00:38:43 Speaker 7: I think I was just pumped, you know, kind of the feelings you just want to get drafted somewhere. So I was really just pumped. I think I knew there was a chance possibly here. You know what a great legacy this place has been, and uh hopefully were trying to get back to that. 00:38:56 Speaker 4: What's the first several months been like with coach Rabel? 00:38:59 Speaker 7: It's been awesome. I mean, I'll know it's uh it's hostile now, Oh we know it's awesome. You gotta bring you gotta bring it and leave it. He goes at the door. I'm sure, y'all. I'm sure you check y'all a few times with personalities of y'all two but uh, I think you know, we watch the old film with Big Taylor's in there watching Podrell watching you over there. 00:39:17 Speaker 4: How was he doing? 00:39:20 Speaker 7: I think you may I heard something new. 00:39:21 Speaker 2: Know damn you know. 00:39:25 Speaker 4: And when Ray was answering the question talking about how he had to drill up at you and POSEI you got over leverage, I'm thinking to myself, you know, Rave was just loving the fact that he could kind of just body bag you in front of some other. 00:39:34 Speaker 1: And the fact it's like that's not for anybody else. And I know five people on this football team that was for Raves and Stretch. Yeah, and yeah you kinda laugh, like, look at that idiot right there. 00:39:44 Speaker 7: No sat the first pitch, dude, come on, yeah, bro, you kind of looked like good forms, like a little bit of Randy Johnson in. 00:39:52 Speaker 2: This Let it go? 00:39:54 Speaker 1: Yeah, bring my show. 00:39:55 Speaker 2: You know. 00:39:55 Speaker 1: Redemption is coming, really, I don't know if we can say the date yet, but it is this month. I'll be catching redemption. 00:40:00 Speaker 7: Where was that? 00:40:00 Speaker 2: What? 00:40:00 Speaker 4: God? 00:40:00 Speaker 7: Game was that at the Redemption? Another game that you just threw. 00:40:03 Speaker 1: Oh that was in Saint Louis. 00:40:05 Speaker 2: Yeah, Saint Louis. 00:40:06 Speaker 1: And Buddy, I'll tell you this nerves No, I was like, I'm about to rip this. I'm about to throw this thing high sixties. 00:40:13 Speaker 2: Yeah, which was good for me. 00:40:15 Speaker 1: And I walked out there. Buddy was standing behind the mountain just saying I'm gonna rip this thing. He was like, I didn't even say a word. And then that happened, and I was like, oh my god, I'm still in disbelief. Yeah, and I think I'm like kind of getting the yips now too, Like I go play catch and like I'll put a couple in Wolf's chest and then there'll be one. Oh, buddy, Ill every day really I get, I get to the shop, we do work, and then I'm like, come play catch with me. 00:40:40 Speaker 7: That's really bad. 00:40:41 Speaker 4: So we'll see. We'll see. 00:40:42 Speaker 1: Have you ever thrown person? 00:40:43 Speaker 7: I thought about throwing curveball or something one time the first pitch. Yeah, I haven't thrown one, but if I did, I'll throw a curveball or something. 00:40:49 Speaker 8: Baseball guy, grown up, Yeah, baseball. 00:40:51 Speaker 4: Guy, you have a whole family of them. 00:40:53 Speaker 7: I got a bunch. 00:40:54 Speaker 4: I saw one story where it was like, uh, what was it People magazine? Where your mom would make like thirty six eggs for you guys would just be a war. 00:41:01 Speaker 7: We got some big dudes, some big fellows rolling around. So a bunch of hooligans. 00:41:05 Speaker 1: Who's most athletic in your family? 00:41:06 Speaker 7: Think a mom. I'm speaking from a mom. 00:41:09 Speaker 1: But you know dad's punching air right now. 00:41:12 Speaker 7: He's old and fat now, so. 00:41:14 Speaker 4: You give it to yourself over the other brothers. 00:41:16 Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, they'd say the same, they would Yeah. 00:41:19 Speaker 4: They know what's up or they just pounding the steering wheel right now as they listen. 00:41:22 Speaker 7: Now, my brother is definitely a tune in. My brother's a big fan of the bust with the boys. 00:41:27 Speaker 1: Patrick playing the Tians? I think what was Collins? 00:41:29 Speaker 2: There? 00:41:30 Speaker 1: Was Pat Collins there? 00:41:30 Speaker 7: Yeah, he was there. 00:41:31 Speaker 1: We came down just to go meet his brother, just like because he was that big of a fan of us. And I was like, yeah, I'll go down there for sure. 00:41:37 Speaker 2: Absolutely. 00:41:37 Speaker 1: And we met the night that night before at the Pegle Porker. Yeah you got Troy Nunes exactly. 00:41:42 Speaker 4: Yeah, bring it back to Rapes. 00:41:45 Speaker 2: I need a pet peeve. 00:41:47 Speaker 1: What pisses you off about Mike or how about this? 00:41:49 Speaker 2: What uh? 00:41:50 Speaker 4: Instead of what pisses you off about Coach Rabel? What would piss Coach Rabel off about you? Or what would be a pet peeve of Raves that. 00:41:59 Speaker 7: He has a you not celebrating after rescore. 00:42:03 Speaker 1: They did go viral, didn't. 00:42:04 Speaker 7: Yeah, he just's I agree. I mean it's hard to getting the end zone. 00:42:08 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:42:08 Speaker 7: I think you saw the clip. We didn't score enough of them last year, so, uh, just getting excited. I think it's there's so much mental game going on in the game, you know, in practice playing QB, So just getting excited when do something good. That's tough, you know. I think I need to do a bad job of that. We go through hard to simulate, you know, in practice when it's actually a real touchdown the game. You know, it's easy to run down there with the boys, but you know the old lines gotta run down there, like oh I got run fifteen yards back. 00:42:33 Speaker 1: Yeah, tough boys cruising. 00:42:35 Speaker 4: Over there exactly celebrating after touchdowns. 00:42:39 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:42:40 Speaker 1: I saw you throw a few touchdowns today in the red zone, and I didn't see you run into the en zone and celebrate. 00:42:46 Speaker 7: Yeah. 00:42:46 Speaker 1: So is that a coachable coachability thing or is that just hey, we're in this is not a team period. 00:42:51 Speaker 4: No. 00:42:52 Speaker 7: Yeah, it was one on one seven, So I think he still get some excitement, for sure. What's what were the things that y'all did back in the day he got mad at Oh got me? 00:43:00 Speaker 4: Yeah, every probably just being on social media, yeah yeah, yeah, he'd bring up posts every now and then. 00:43:07 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:43:08 Speaker 4: There was one time where it was like Darren Bates was injured and so he was sitting out of walkthrough and in my brain he was just getting one over. I'm like, oh, you're just You're just wanting to chill, like you ain't in that bad of shape. So I bought this neck brace on Amazon, and then I like took a video because he had like the yellow jersey on. I'm telling him, hey, throw this on, throw this boy the neck brace, and we're kind of busting his balls in the locker room and I'm videoing it. I put it up on social and he texted me later that night and he's like, you think this was smart? And dude, fear just filled the entire part of my body. And so I'm sitting there looking on how I should respond back to Verble kind of like is he kind of messing with me? Should I like send a joke back because we all know he's playing like it's all good. And he put it up in the TV the next day. My asshole was was tight as. 00:43:56 Speaker 1: You walk in that TV room. It's really the first one when you come act for OTAs because everyone's kind of done their thing. Maybe he posted something in January. He knows. John Striker knows, and he will show Mike Rabe. Yeah he's not. He is on it. He has dialed in. 00:44:11 Speaker 2: I think, yeah, he's the OP. 00:44:13 Speaker 1: I don't think you understand how much of a win it is for you guys to have stretch on this team just yet, like you guys will realize how big of a win it is to have. But he's definitely the OP. I had a time Bill O'Brien got fired from Houston and I was commenting on how I was like fired up about him getting fired, and Raves like called me and chewed me out for like five minutes about how disrespectful that is. And I don't know Bill and all this stuff, and that was. Walking in the next day was very difficult. 00:44:39 Speaker 2: It was. It was scary, But I. 00:44:41 Speaker 1: Saw him the next day he like pat me on the asid walking down the hallway. So he's kind of always doing this and you just don't really know what to do. 00:44:48 Speaker 4: He bullies you until he knows you're broken a little bit. Yeah yeah, and kind of stepping on egg walking on eggshells. And then that's when he buddies you up and he's like, why don't you laugh? And it's a joke. 00:44:56 Speaker 2: It's like, well he was, he was. 00:44:58 Speaker 1: Sitting here with us before y'all's practice being like, you know, is they don't know that I'm joking yet and stuff like that, So you know, I'll tell him. He if it's funny, you can laugh in the team meeting room. I'm thinking, we're still there. We've known you since twenty eighteen. We're still like, Dan, there we have. That's how rape likes. 00:45:15 Speaker 7: I saw the clip of you y'all about to fight in the bus. You like your chances, you. 00:45:20 Speaker 4: Think against rape? 00:45:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. 00:45:22 Speaker 4: I got too much respect to think that I could take him. 00:45:25 Speaker 2: It's almost like yeah. And then he's a little real and it's kind. 00:45:30 Speaker 4: Of like he's just got the power dynamic of father's son, you know what I mean. It's like, hey, will do you think you can whoop your old man? It's like you just don't. You don't really go there mentally. And then when he bulks up it's kind of like he's a long he's a specimen. Hands to scratch his knees a little bit. 00:45:45 Speaker 1: You're saying, you're saying Rape is your daddy right now. 00:45:47 Speaker 4: I'm saying he's got that's the type of respect that I have for him as a father. 00:45:51 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:45:51 Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I see him as like a father figure. 00:45:54 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:45:54 Speaker 4: Yeah. You know, we swapped text in the off season. He checks on the family and stuff. He's like a mental mind. 00:46:00 Speaker 2: I love that. 00:46:00 Speaker 4: So I just appreciate him, you know what I mean. When he walked up, like, you know, hey, don't get sensitive on me, Braves. 00:46:06 Speaker 9: Like. 00:46:08 Speaker 2: Between two of you. 00:46:10 Speaker 1: He likes Will a lot more than me. Yeah, he like I. He I think he definitely views me as like he coached me really hard when he got there, and I was like, he'll lighten up eventually, and it never really happened. And then I like got cut eventually and it's kind of just not stopped. Will was like they brought Will in, he was doing the core for he was like a light and did the Rabel thing and that went over really well. And then once Will was out of the building, Rabel was like, that's my guy. Yeah, I'm I'm Will's buddy, but that Will's Rabe's friend. Does that make sense? 00:46:46 Speaker 4: Taylor was an asset that they needed to produce at the highest level at all times, so when he get injured, I'm sure that kind of plays into the psyche of what his view was of Taylor, Like, I'm an asset, but I'm more of an asset, like, uh, you know, like one of those uh. 00:47:00 Speaker 1: What was a gester? You know, first off gestures the people that would entertain the king. 00:47:06 Speaker 4: What's the animal that you keep? Then they just give you good vibes, are there for you? 00:47:10 Speaker 1: Golden retriever, no support, emotional, sporting. 00:47:15 Speaker 4: Yeah, Like my ass set ability was like being the support animal in the locker room. 00:47:19 Speaker 1: Yeah, and we'll you know, just Will was a locker room guy. So Raves would always be like, we're gonna hold our high or our best players to the highest standard or whatever. That's like his phrase he always says. And he would call me in his office, Hey, what's up, Raves. I'm trying to be buddies, always trying to be buddies. No, he'd be like, coming here real quick, and he pulled up some film. We just sit in silence for a little bit while I play some couple of plays of me like not doing videos. We hold our best players to the highest standard. Correct, yes, sir? Is that the highest standard? 00:47:48 Speaker 4: No? 00:47:49 Speaker 2: All right? 00:47:49 Speaker 1: I need you to play better next week? 00:47:51 Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. 00:47:52 Speaker 1: And there be games too, I like walk away from games were like, bro, I that was a game. I kind of have myself a little I think I have like four or five players, and I put that guy the dirt. I was good to protection blah blah blah. I felt good about it. And as I'm like truly feeling good about myself, I'm getting a text from Braves be like, need you to be better next week? And it was always it was always that Will. I would I would sit over and watch Will and Braves be like, how the fuck do I get to that? 00:48:15 Speaker 4: I just had to get a couple of tackles on special Teams or Slice of seven when once a game or something. 00:48:21 Speaker 1: Because when he said here was like, hey man, you're showing some man reaches. He's should you getting overextended on on on a play action clips just killing me. 00:48:30 Speaker 4: That's kind of the difference in dynamic. But this is about this podcast. You're doing very well and asking questions about us now we're getting the five fingers. Take us through the process last year being thrown into the fire, because on the outside, it seemed like when you got drafted you were going to be somebody who was kind of like maybe groomed in on the sideline throughout the season. Then the season was going the way it was. You had coach Mayo, he was he was in his first year. Then you kind of get thrust in and thrown into the fire. Was that something that you expected or what was the learning curve as that decision? Uh was made? 00:49:03 Speaker 7: No, I think you know, we had the Texans here at home, so it was a good in front of home crowd. You get thrown into the fire. I think it's something that they're like, man, let's see what I got. I think it's, uh, you go out there and you see the Neil Hunter, will Anderson, you know when you go out there in your first drive and you're like, this is the NFL. 00:49:19 Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Specimens. 00:49:22 Speaker 1: Especially Hunter dude. 00:49:23 Speaker 7: Yeah, good guys a lot. So I think you know, from there, I think just ultimately confidence, I think that's what I think you kind of appreciate yourself. You do all that practice, to do all this training camp, go out there and just a lot of bullets. See what you see what you got, And you know, I think, you know, the biggest thing is these guys we still played hard. You know, I think we uh, you know, we were in some close games and you know, season didn't go with the way we wanted, But these guys fought hard. I think, especially those guys up front, they fought for me hard. And you know, the at least I do is get back and go out there and compete, and you'll leave it all out there. So that's my approach to it, and it's not gonna change. 00:49:54 Speaker 4: Was there ever a moment of discouragement during your rookie year, Like, as you guys are out there and you're performing, whether up to your standard or not. 00:50:04 Speaker 7: You know, once you really hit and I think kind of the you know, ten losses in the season, you know it's tough. You got there and you're out there playing. You probably know in the back of your mind you're not gonna make the playoffs. You're out there playing a you know, a gruesome game, and you're out there just battling, and I think that's really what you're kind of finding these guys like who can I really go to war with? And I think that's what, you know, I was trying to approach it myself, like these guys are gonna see me am I still competing hard and you know, scrambling around and trying to make plays or just gonna throw it in the dirt and keep back up and punt. And so I think that's kind of is what I kind of used last year, as you obviously want to you know, win more games this year, and that's our plan. So uh, I think everybody feels good now. So it's it's going into your week one to see you when the real bullets go times. 00:50:48 Speaker 1: Remember that rookie wall when you're sitting there in the middle of November possibly like walking into December. You know, you're out of the playoffs, like you said, you're you know, ten losses, you're probably not gonna pit the playoffs, like you will not make the playoffs with ten losses. And you see these guys, you know, you're twenty one years old. You got these guys that are in their thirties they kind of know. So you see guys kind of talking about Cobbos and Lucas all of a sudden, I'm gonna go over here. What are we doing for a vacation? Like what was that like from you from like a just a going from college to NFL. 00:51:15 Speaker 7: No, No, it's different. I think even the first thing I know is these guys got families. You know, it's not the locker room in college where you're hanging out and going back to someone's place and you know, watching football. Yeah, I think stuff like that. It's more like you're like your families and you leave here and like I said that rookie Wall kind of after you know, after the bowl season, you go straight to training and then you go straight to the draft preps. So it's a long year, long years of these rookies. That's what I'm telling these guys on our team, you know, Will Campbell, those guys, it's a long year. And I think, you know, from there, you give up here to Boston. I never been up here in the North and you get out of meetings at five o'clock and next thing you know, it's dark outside and it's fifteen freeze. I think I had a whole different element of the morbidness up here of the winners. So I think that's really really right around your teammates and you know, when you are in the building, try to make it as you enjoyable as you can. And I think definitely you see guys not like you said, not checking out, but no one kind of what's what's in the end and kind of the light the end of the tunnel is not you know, looking you know too bright. I think you can see that in the NFL, which is you know credit then you guys want to you have you know, lungevity in the years and you know, credit their bodies and you know, you can see injuries is a big part of the game. So there's two sides too, but hopefully not in that situation. 00:52:24 Speaker 1: Yeah, when you got like your routine in your first year and you hit the wall and everything like that, what are some changes you're making for yourself and your in your daily routine during the football season. 00:52:33 Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a great question. You know, I think Jakobe set was someone great for me to learn from, you know, a veteran this league, playing a bunch of different offenses. He's the man, you know, just hanging out outside. We should go to dinner. I think it's different. You got my wife up here, now in the season, so it'll be different having her up here. But really just it's about ball, I think, trying to change, trying to find what's work, kind of find a rhythm throughout the weeks and hopefully if you, you know, get w in the wing column, just try to repeat it. And if not, you gotta change something where study more, get with the guys more, do something different. 00:53:04 Speaker 4: I have one more question for you, and I want to take you back to college your senior year. You're Drake may Hey. Is he gonna go first? 00:53:09 Speaker 2: Overall? 00:53:09 Speaker 4: This kid's a specimen. He's this, He's that. You start off seven and oh eight and oh ranked ten in the country. Is this Drake may kid? Is he about it? And then Virginia and Georgia Tech happened? What the fuck happened against Virginia and Georgia Tech? 00:53:27 Speaker 7: Those the same thing. 00:53:28 Speaker 1: Those are the kind of questions you're getting a bust with the boys, hard hitting jobs right there. 00:53:32 Speaker 7: No, I think it was it was tough. I think we twice two years in a row. My last two years two years I played, we lost to a Georgia Tech at home. We ranked tenth in the country. We were like nine to one, and then we lost to Virginia. That next year, we were like maybe seven or eight in the country at home. Yeah, I think it's uh fucking christ this kind of story nor Con football. 00:53:52 Speaker 2: Really. 00:53:53 Speaker 7: You know when I was there, we just couldn't find a way to get over the hump, kind of get into that next category of of wins and being that next kind of vision of respect you know, around the country for our football program. And I really think it was just unfortunate. 00:54:05 Speaker 1: This is my last question. Well, is your welcome to the NFL moment. If you got to go with the thing you have to go, you to be fast. 00:54:12 Speaker 7: I think the Neil Hunter. I think we came out of halftime. I just threw a touchdown. My first touchdown was fourteen to seven, and we're getting empty and yeah, I get stripped sacked to start off the half the first play, and then from there it was kind of like, you know, holding the ball in this league, you gotta get rid of it. 00:54:26 Speaker 2: So get rid of it. 00:54:26 Speaker 6: Dude. 00:54:27 Speaker 1: Appreciate your time. Thank you so much. Yeah, I appreciate you. 00:54:31 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:54:33 Speaker 4: We interrupt this episode because we were brought to you by Neutral Vodka Seltzer. Have you tried Neutral. If not, you are missing out. Neutral is so much better than any seltzer that I've tried. It's made with real vodka and real juice, and that's what makes it delicious. Neutral comes in a variety of flavors like watermelon, orange, black cherry. There's also new flavors lime and strawberry. Because Neutral is the perfect drink to bring when hanging with friends, because it is. 00:54:57 Speaker 2: Such a crop pleaser. 00:54:59 Speaker 4: Whether you're watching watching the game at the bar, watching in the backyard with friends, hanging out and grilling with in the backyard with friends, or you're at a tailgate before on game day, bring Neutral seltzer. Keep it tasty with Neutral. Back to this episode, Robert Spulaane. 00:55:17 Speaker 9: Yeah, come on, I appreciate you guys having me on. 00:55:20 Speaker 2: Thank you. 00:55:20 Speaker 4: Absolutely welcome to Busting with the Boys. I am personally fired up. I know Taylor's fired up as well. But just as an undrafted linebacker, you were a rookie mini camp tryout, like the gutter the gutter of gutters. Rabe was kind of saying too, He's like the meatia camp trial. Guys like you just have them there to be bodies for the people you bring in the draft picks you bring in the other preferred undrafted free agents that you bring in. You weren't one of those. You got what an offer coming out of where'd. 00:55:55 Speaker 2: You go to college? 00:55:56 Speaker 6: To Western Michigan, to. 00:55:57 Speaker 4: Western Michigan, bro and now all the way to just signing a three year, thirty three million dollar deal to be with the Patriots a second stint with coach Rabel. We're fucking proud of you, bro Stoked. 00:56:12 Speaker 6: Definitely come a long way. 00:56:14 Speaker 9: Hasn't been easy, A lot of trials and tribulations. You know, when you started as an undrafted player, they look at you as an undrafted player for the remainder of your career. So I still have that chip on my shoulder every day I go out there. I tell myself you're undrafted. You know it's time to go earn it. 00:56:29 Speaker 1: When did you think you had? Obviously you could tell you love ball And we tell the story. We told the story in the podcast multiple times of us sitting after I think. 00:56:36 Speaker 2: It was Pittsburgh he reception. 00:56:38 Speaker 1: Hand reception had like seven, eight, maybe even ten tackles and you're kind of walking by and we're like chopping it up in the corner a little we're a little banged up, and I'm like, hey, man, kind of did your think out there? And you kind of get a little nervous. You're like, I love football, and you kind of just kept it moving and it's like we joked and laughed about it, but like, brother, that those are the guys that make it, the dudes that sit there, and they're like, you have to truly love playing this game to be put in the position you were in the NFL and now to be sitting where you are now. But at what point was it that rookie minni camp? Was it after your first year, when were you like, oh, I can I think I can actually play in the NFL. 00:57:12 Speaker 9: I think our first practice as a team, when I got the veterans in there after rookie Mini Camp, and I saw what the NFL was, I knew I had a chance to make it. I had an internal confidence right away that I am undrafted. I'm the ninth man on the roster of the ninetieth overall, the ninth in the linebacker corps, and I feel like I can make myself good enough to be good in this league one day. 00:57:34 Speaker 4: But you get cut, then you go on practice squad you get cut, I believe in October if I remember right, And then you end up signing with Pittsburgh in the next February, like after the season's over, so you're you know, technically the saying is, you're on your couch for the rest of the season. Did doubt ever creep in your mind? 00:57:55 Speaker 9: Yeah, it's hard. It's hard when you get cut in the spend four months at home. You go out to la for a tryout, they send you home without giving you a call back. You go out to Denver for a tryout, they send you home without getting a call back. 00:58:11 Speaker 6: Go out to. 00:58:12 Speaker 9: Pittsburgh for a tryout, and just as we're walking on the field with six inside linebackers, they signed one of them. They take one of them upstairs and say we're gonna sign you in front of everybody. 00:58:23 Speaker 6: So I go out for the tryout. I'd leave without a call. 00:58:26 Speaker 9: I in turn, decided to give them a call back and give them a piece of my mind and say, why the fuck did you bring me out here? What was the fucking point of bringing me out here if you already had your mind made up? And it was that energy, that fire that they saw in me. And two days later, they gave me an opportunity. 00:58:42 Speaker 1: What are they saying on the phone so you call them, Hey, patch me into Mike Tomlin. 00:58:47 Speaker 6: It wasn't Mike Tomlin. 00:58:48 Speaker 4: It was. 00:58:50 Speaker 9: Kevin Colbert's son, the head, one of the head scouts that invited me to the tryout originally, and he called me, or I called him after the tryout saying, what was thet of you bringing out here? We just talked on the phone before I got out here. You want to give me an opportunity? And I felt like, that's bullshit. You gotta signed a guy without even giving me a shot, and uh, he just oh, yeah, we're gonna We're still looking at you. We're still looking at you. I'm like, yeah, bullshit. 00:59:15 Speaker 6: Whatever. 00:59:16 Speaker 9: Didn't expect to hear anything back from them. Two days later, they gave me an opportunity to come in for a ninety man roster spot and kind of worked my way through practice squad, through special teams, and then got my opportunity to play defense. 00:59:30 Speaker 6: When Devin Bush went on. 00:59:32 Speaker 4: That when you decided to call them and give him a piece of mind, is it like your frustration was at an all time high when you're going out and doing tryouts because me like doubt, doubt being the wrong We're more of like discouraged that you're putting in all this work, you're persevering, you're staying resilient, you believe in yourself. Did it just get to a point where it's like, I gotta I gotta figure out why this isn't happening. 00:59:53 Speaker 9: Yeah, without a doubt, I wanted answers. I wanted I felt like I was wronged. I felt like I had to ability and the capabilities to one day be a successful player in this league. So it really bothered me that I wasn't getting that opportunity. And I honestly believe if I didn't have that chip on my shoulder, I wouldn't be here today. 01:00:12 Speaker 1: Yeah, when you when you go to the Steelers, you get on the ninety man roster, put the dark visor on. By the way, that was a nice touch, was very nice. Yeah, headaches head, Yeah, that's what it's all about. You go and play the Titans again, and there's a goal line stand and a lot of people. I believe there's a there's another reporter. He's on ESPN. He talks about him and Derek Henry in the whole He's taking Derick Henry ol and everyone always argues about it, but you actually stood Derek's ass up with the Derek. We love Derek on the show, but handled business was that like you're coming uh, you're coming out moment for. 01:00:47 Speaker 9: Sure, my first career start against the team that cut me two years prior. Anytime you step on the field with King Henry, you have to give him respect and you have to bring it all. If you take a slight second of the playoff, he's scoring a touchdown. So I knew at that moment that it it had to be there on the goal line with the team that cut me two years prior. All that worked up inside me and I was able to make a nice play on the goal line. 01:01:16 Speaker 2: Out there. 01:01:16 Speaker 9: Yeah, I felt the excitement from everybody in the stands. My whole family took a bus from Chicago to the game. 01:01:23 Speaker 4: Oh that's awesome. 01:01:24 Speaker 9: I had a lot of friends on the Tennessee Titans still at that point that showed me love after the game, So it was really a special moment for me. 01:01:33 Speaker 4: You put your face in the fan, did you feel it like as you were getting up to celebrate. 01:01:36 Speaker 6: I definitely lost a few years of my life in that moment. 01:01:40 Speaker 9: Yeah, I definitely gave the Good Lord a few years of my life. 01:01:46 Speaker 1: You have a did you feel it like you have a sting or anything like that. 01:01:48 Speaker 9: Yeah, they call it a stinger. But when you can't feel half your body and you're like, no, ship, I came off the field. Cam Hayward rips me off the ground. He's like, oh, spill sleeping, get off the field. So I run off the field and obviously you don't want to be wobbling coming off the field. So I'm like, oh, my shoulder sore, my shoulder. And I guess that's all part of playing in the NFL. 01:02:16 Speaker 2: So when you go to. 01:02:20 Speaker 4: As you're going through the Steelers, you get cut, you going practice squad, you get cut again early in the year, you get brought brought back the next week. Then when Devin Bush goes down with an ACL injury, you get your number calls. And then that game, I think you go on, you have like, you have a few good plays, and that next week Tomlin's in the in the press conference saying that you're going to be the starter. Take us through, take us through that process, and what that meant to hear knowing that coach Tomlin and the Steelers had that trust in you to continue to be the starter. 01:02:47 Speaker 9: Yeah, knowing that they had that trust in me, it was all I needed to go out there and succeed. Knowing I had the trust of the ten people around me. It's a very safe spot when you're in the middle linebacker of these defenses. You got ten killers all around you. So it seems very chaotic and a lot going on, but for me, that's like where I feel the most calm and Uh, having the confidence of the players and the coaches in that organization meant everything to me to go out there and succeed. 01:03:12 Speaker 1: How they break the news to you, they call you in the office, they play a truck or anything. 01:03:15 Speaker 9: Yeah, Tom Win called me in and he said, it's time to start living like a pro. 01:03:18 Speaker 6: We need to get you some new outfits. We need to get you a new car. 01:03:21 Speaker 9: You're you're our starting mid a linebacker, so you need to come in looking like it, playing like it. So it was kind of a fun moment for me, and uh, something I'll never forget. 01:03:30 Speaker 1: Did you listen, You'll get yourself a next you get. 01:03:33 Speaker 4: A new car. 01:03:34 Speaker 9: No, I And that's probably why they didn't keep me around too much longer. 01:03:38 Speaker 4: So you went on, you signed free agency with the Raiders. Did Pittsburgh not want you back? 01:03:44 Speaker 2: Uh? 01:03:45 Speaker 6: No, they they didn't. 01:03:46 Speaker 9: And it hurts to say that, and it it hurts to feel like that because you felt like you great, You made all these great connections, You felt like you poured your heart on the line, you felt like you did everything to be a good team player. But at the end of the day, this is a business and they don't always want you back. And it hurts, and it hurts, and it adds to that chip on the shoulder. But that's all I could do at that point was go out to Vegas my one opportunity no one else was calling, and go out there and ball. 01:04:15 Speaker 4: So who else was in the conversation when you were negotiating as a free agent ended up with the Raiders. 01:04:21 Speaker 6: It was the Raiders. It was just the Raiders. 01:04:24 Speaker 4: So when you were going into free agency, what were those conversations like in your exit meetings with the Steelers, Like as your interfergency. 01:04:31 Speaker 9: Before I went into free agency, that told me go out test the market and see what you get. We're going to offer whatever they give you, and we want to make you a Steeler. 01:04:39 Speaker 4: We love you and your brain. 01:04:41 Speaker 9: You're like, this is where I want to So I called them, oh I got an offer from the Steeler or from the Raiders, like I want to come back. What's the deal? And they were like, oh, good luck, have fun. So really that's how it happened. And obviously at the time you're sick, you're moving across the country, but at the same time you're so happy because somebody believes in you, and that's all you really need, like to have Patrick Graham out there, to have Josh McDaniels out there, believe Antonio Pierce believing in me as the player and as a person. That's what gives me confidence to go out there and do what I do best. 01:05:14 Speaker 1: What was it like when So was it March when I saw you at UFC? Yeah, yeah, and I was Plaine like walks by me. We kind of like I don't I'm just kind of walking and he kind of like he's like he could see you, man, like maybe goes I'm gonna be a Patriot and just kind of books it out of there. I was like you just you see, just beaming absolutely being back. When Braves calls you Were you just so fired up about the full circle moment? Was he the one that called you or the gym called you? 01:05:39 Speaker 9: Yeah, they offered the deal once free agency opened. Uh, And I knew I wanted to be a Patriot. I knew I wanted to get back with coach Rabel. I knew what type of person he is willing to lay his life on the line for his players. And Uh, it's just an organization that you want to be a part of. It's a historic organization and a new emerging team with a lot of new peace. And it seemed like a really good opportunity for me and my family. 01:06:03 Speaker 1: How does it feel for you when you walk out and do a scrimmage last Friday and you see all six of those banners standing up there in the stadium. 01:06:09 Speaker 9: Yeah, it's it's Uh, it's pressure. But at the end of the day, that's why we come out here. That's why we love doing what we're doing. We love when these these stadiums are filled out, sold out, rocking, loud and excitement, and uh, we're gonna have a lot of that this year. And I can't wait to see what Pat's Nation is all about. 01:06:28 Speaker 2: Uh. 01:06:28 Speaker 4: Your second Stanton Free agency, same kind of question, like when it was coming to a name with the Raiders, Like who is in the market for you before you ultimately decided on the Patriots? Like with the Raiders winning, you. 01:06:38 Speaker 6: Bat uh not not really? 01:06:43 Speaker 2: God damn. 01:06:44 Speaker 6: Yeah. 01:06:44 Speaker 4: And I feel like, uh, Max Crossby, You're gonna. 01:06:50 Speaker 9: Have to ask Max, because he went on the podcast and he said, you know, he's been in the office with the GM every day in the offseason. So I don't know what happened where the love loss was there, But at the end of the day, I have this opportunity here and I'm gonna do with everything I can to be a good teammate here and performed for the Patriots. 01:07:11 Speaker 4: Were there any other teams that were fighting for you before you decided here? 01:07:14 Speaker 2: Yeah? There was? 01:07:16 Speaker 6: Are you able to do you want to hear about it? 01:07:18 Speaker 4: Yea. 01:07:19 Speaker 1: So this is a podcast we do. We like, we like talking people. 01:07:24 Speaker 4: This isn't like, this isn't like a professional ESPN sit down. 01:07:27 Speaker 1: Yeah. 01:07:27 Speaker 9: I mean there was a team in the West Coast. There was a team that I had recently played for and won in the Mountains, and uh uh, they all showed a big interest and we're excited. 01:07:43 Speaker 1: So Denver Chargers, Titans close. 01:07:46 Speaker 6: It's very close. 01:07:48 Speaker 1: It's very close. 01:07:48 Speaker 2: Yes, And then it was the Rams. 01:07:52 Speaker 9: Uh yeah, well we'll we'll just say that's that was close. That was very close. 01:07:56 Speaker 4: Who who is the closest outside of the New England. 01:08:01 Speaker 6: I don't know. 01:08:02 Speaker 9: I mean once once it once, it came down to it in New England said and showed me that they wanted me to come out here. 01:08:09 Speaker 6: It was a done deal. I wanted to be here. 01:08:11 Speaker 9: Out of the four teams that were offering, I wanted to be part of the Patriots. So I'm glad that we got it done here and I'm excited to go out and perform. 01:08:20 Speaker 1: You know, splain when we're asking these questions, every everything we've asked as far as harmless. But he's thinking himself, what's that team meeting gonna look like when this podcast comes out and Raves goes plain, we're not paying you enough? 01:08:31 Speaker 2: You mean what you want to be here? 01:08:33 Speaker 9: No, I'm so excited and glad to be here. And and we we got a young team. A lot of free agents joined the team this year, so it's gonna look a lot different than last year. 01:08:44 Speaker 6: And we're just gonna go out and Uh, continue to work. 01:08:47 Speaker 4: What do you. 01:08:50 Speaker 2: Do? 01:08:51 Speaker 4: My best to ask question where you just won't give a bullshit answer? 01:08:55 Speaker 6: Are they all bullshit answered? 01:09:00 Speaker 9: Speak for you know, I don't want to say something stupid, no doubt. I am not a trained podcaster, so. 01:09:10 Speaker 2: None of us are. 01:09:11 Speaker 1: These other hypothetical teams that I may or may not have been close on. Did they offer even offer the same amount as the Patriots? 01:09:18 Speaker 9: Yes, they were right in the same ballpark anymore they were right in the same ballpark as the Patriots. 01:09:27 Speaker 4: Did you have a recruiting dinner with Rapes? Recruiting didn't like did you come out here to visit? And they Rabe was courting you around. 01:09:34 Speaker 6: Once once we signed your say. 01:09:36 Speaker 4: Before if you came out here for a visitor. 01:09:38 Speaker 9: So there was no conversation leading up to free agency. Once free agency hit, my agent called me at whatever it was noon that day and said, you know, the Pats really want you. So I was excited to hear that I've worked with coach t in the past or defensive coordinator, I've worked with Rabel in the past, and Uh, it just seemed like. 01:09:58 Speaker 6: The right fit for me and my family. 01:10:01 Speaker 1: You have to play the Steelers and the Raiders, two teams to have elite pass rushers. What are similarities and some differences you see between TJ Watt and Max Crosby. 01:10:12 Speaker 9: Yeah, two of the best in the league. Obviously, as you can see those contracts, those boys are living right. They are working hard. TJ is dominant, both on the left side of the ball. Both have the freedom to do whatever they want on a play. You know, if you have a non dominant edge rusher, you tell them set the edge. If you have Max and TJ, you tell them do whatever the hell you want because we know you're gonna make a play. So playing behind those guys has let me learn how to play behind people that like to swim gaps, like to find the ball. I think TJ has done a great job forst fumbles interceptions. Max has the best motor in the NFL, so he is unblockable for ninety snaps out of the game, which is unheard of from a d end I. 01:10:59 Speaker 4: Love it, Bobby, we're getting we're getting the wrap up signal. But dude, again, so proud of you. I think you are a fucking awesome example front drafted guys being a rookie MENI camp trial guy, to get all the way into your third contract, which is massive, especially at the linebacker spot. Man, and I wish you well this year, bro, stay healthy. 01:11:17 Speaker 6: Yeah, thanks for having me on. I appreciate Love you guys. 01:11:20 Speaker 1: Love you too, man, Thank you guys. Sorry, So let's get into let's get into this that outfit. This you're you're obviously rocking something special. What is the what's the reason for this? 01:11:36 Speaker 10: Uh So, originally there was function behind it. So six years ago I played Miami. Yeah, you know, it's ninety five degrees, feels like one hundred and two. But the ends of this don't get wet. Yeah, when it's like flowing through, it'll sweat up here, but the whole shirt won't get wet, so I can dry my fingers. 01:11:51 Speaker 8: And then every training camp now I just do it. 01:11:53 Speaker 1: I love it. 01:11:54 Speaker 4: Yeah. 01:11:54 Speaker 10: So originally the West function. Now it's pure style. Yeah, it's like eighty two outsider. 01:11:58 Speaker 1: How crazy is it going from a place in Miami to New England? And then you're probably in the shame game. But you hear one guy whispered, man, it's fucking hot out here, and what are you talking about? 01:12:07 Speaker 2: You have no idea? 01:12:09 Speaker 10: Literally, the guy's like it was like ninety three the other day. Dude like like, yeah, I don't know if I can go. I'm like, what are you talking about? This is like we got a ninety three degree day in Miami. Everybody was smiling here to ear like this is simple. 01:12:20 Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gorgeous out here. 01:12:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's super nice. 01:12:23 Speaker 8: Like y'all haven't even changed your cleats because they're soaking water through. 01:12:25 Speaker 1: Yet, right you start walking up the field and your your feet a little squish. 01:12:29 Speaker 2: Yeah, that's okay, we had a hot day. 01:12:32 Speaker 1: Yeah, how's it. How's the process been with with Mike and the culture and everything here in New England. 01:12:39 Speaker 10: It's been good. I think one of the biggest things. And I've been kind of in that New England style system of like work and get shit done, and I love that. 01:12:47 Speaker 8: Type of ship, like the guy who works hard gets rewarded. 01:12:51 Speaker 10: But having Mike, who was also played so he understands, like when he says some shit, it's like, Okay, he's actually probably done it. He's done some of the ship that he's telling us to do, so it works out. 01:13:00 Speaker 8: Okay. 01:13:00 Speaker 7: Cool. 01:13:00 Speaker 10: I can I can hear where he's coming from because he could pull up some tape with him actually doing it. He's not just talking out his ass. 01:13:05 Speaker 1: Yeah it's gramy as hell, but he did do it for fourteen years. How many times has he mentioned that he's played fourteen years in the NFL and team. 01:13:12 Speaker 10: Meetings, team meetings, I don't know. When he comes in the receiver room, it's straight to the touchdowns. It's like ten for ten or twelve or twelve. 01:13:18 Speaker 2: Whatever it is. Yeah, even I can do. 01:13:21 Speaker 1: When he first started the Titans, this he was AJ's first year, he put up all the receivers and their stats from the year before, and it was like, I think all of them had like maybe total eleven and then his was twelve or twelve twelve touchdowns. 01:13:36 Speaker 2: He like he out paid him. 01:13:38 Speaker 4: Was it until I want to say it was in the middle of the second time around that I was there, like twenty twenty. Yeah, when the room finally passed him in touchdowns? Which is it was something. 01:13:48 Speaker 1: That was that was a team that's big for the. 01:13:52 Speaker 4: How big? 01:13:53 Speaker 10: Well? 01:13:54 Speaker 4: How how finally do you look back on your last year with the Buffalo. It seemed like you had a lot of fun. I feel like you were in the headlines a lot more. Obviously, you've talked to it, you've spoken about your feet at length, But it seemed like you guys had a really fun locker room in Buffalo. 01:14:06 Speaker 8: Yeah, for sure, I had a lot of fun. The guys are great. 01:14:09 Speaker 10: Uh, anybody who's played their kind of nose. That's really all there is is ball and city loves you, and if you work hard, it like kind of turns over you're winning games. And when you're winning games, freaking no matter where you're at, it's freaking great. So yeah, I had a great time there and I was able to be barefoot and wild and yeah, oh that time, they just embraced it, and like people started wearing no shoes in the snow and I was like, hey, I'm not liable for any of that shit. 01:14:31 Speaker 1: Yeah, are you going no shoes in the snow? 01:14:33 Speaker 2: Yeah? 01:14:34 Speaker 10: On the on the walk in, yeah, walk in. No matter what the temperature is, I'm going barefoot. But if it gets blowed thirty five, it's just I don't know. I think the word I guess people use would be the placcification of America. People are so soft now, like, bro do something hard for once. It's not even hard to wear no shoes, But like if it gets blowed thirty five. I'm not an idiot, like I'll put shoes on, but walking into games, no matter what, I have to be barefoot. 01:14:58 Speaker 2: How long you've been doing this. 01:14:59 Speaker 8: For walking in the games? Probably three four years? 01:15:02 Speaker 10: Yeah, so I got hurt seven years ago, started training barefoot. Found these guys in Australia called m MT. They trained, They showed up to Philly. I flew him out, freaking barefoot out off the plane. I'm like, the fuck are you doing? Same way y'all look at me. That's how I looked at them. Started training with them, and then like three four years ago, I was like, what's the point of the shoes? 01:15:20 Speaker 2: Now? 01:15:20 Speaker 10: I just don't pack them and sit. Other than bathrooms and airports is the only time I were. 01:15:23 Speaker 1: Shoes really, So you you obviously going to a restaurant they excuse me, sir. 01:15:27 Speaker 10: If I'm by myself like this, and if they kicked me out, so be it. But if I'm with the group, I'm gonna wear shoes like I'm not gonna screw the whole. Yeah, but by myself I'll get kicked out of places all the time. 01:15:42 Speaker 4: But you probably have to be so thankful you found this. You found this group in Australia. 01:15:46 Speaker 2: Yeah you did. 01:15:46 Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean I was like about to retire, Like I couldn't walk for a year, Like just came off the Super Bowl, just won a Super Bowl and then for six eight months couldn't walk. I was like, yo, I just was at the peak too, I can't do anything. What was the injury again, grunt? I had a growin. 01:16:00 Speaker 8: I had surgery. 01:16:01 Speaker 10: Three months later toward the other side, had surgery again, and like couldn't walk, couldn't get back from it. 01:16:06 Speaker 1: And what was these Australians, these barefoot of Australians. What is the method behind? 01:16:11 Speaker 10: So they're called Melbourne Muscular Therapy. So muscular therapy is like their main thing body work. But then they also do so I was doing whim Hoff stuff. I was doing like breathing exercise, eye gazing, where you like sit interests from each other and stare in each other eyes. 01:16:23 Speaker 2: Literally. 01:16:24 Speaker 10: The first thing they did when they got to my house, they blindfolded me, picked me up on their shoulders to start carrying around the neighborhood. And this is like Philly and our season is not going too hot at the time, so now they see my weird ass doing this, and I'm like, what's going on, and they're like, we just want you to know that, no matter what, like we got you. And at that point I was like, whatever, I'm about to retire, I'll do whatever y'all say. And then within like three months, I was back running again. And you know when you get hurt and you all of a sudden get that like, oh I might be able to do this again. 01:16:50 Speaker 8: Yeah, it freaking change everything. 01:16:52 Speaker 1: Everything you're explaining to me sounds like the beginning of a cult. 01:16:55 Speaker 10: Sometimes the cults are right though, you know you're coptime. 01:17:03 Speaker 4: I'm scared even asking which cult is right? 01:17:06 Speaker 1: Right exactly? 01:17:08 Speaker 8: You got your yeah. 01:17:10 Speaker 1: No doubt, but did you? So they're picking you up there walking around Philly, and all of a sudden, you can you walk and feel great a few months later. 01:17:17 Speaker 10: I mean, the body work is the main thing. So they did bodywork on me. I would say between six and eight hours a day for two weeks straight. So I'm getting forty plus hours a week of like bodywork, holding muscles, just completely releasing all the tension in my body. In their mind, your body's kind of like a plumbing system and they're just clogs all over the place, So how can we help you unclog so everything flows properly. And that's what they did. Like you know, when you have a surgery, you wake up and your brain doesn't know. 01:17:41 Speaker 2: What's going on. It just wakes up. 01:17:42 Speaker 8: It's like, oh shit, this is this is completely different than what it was. Now just get fixed. 01:17:47 Speaker 10: And we're just so trained to Yep, you have surgery, so you're good, which your brain doesn't know. It went to sleep and it couldn't really control or had pain somewhere and it wakes up and like, now it doesn't know what's going on. So I think that second surgery just kind of shut everything down and they were able to get me back on. 01:18:00 Speaker 4: For the last couple of minutes. I would love to know what is your favorite thing about coach Rabel and what is one thing. 01:18:08 Speaker 1: You don't you think should work on you think he can work on? 01:18:12 Speaker 4: There we go because I was like, iron. 01:18:19 Speaker 10: I think he What I love is that he'll he'll get the competitiveness out of me. I love talking ship. I think he does too. And it gets that even though he's getting older and you kind of lose that that t level and that and that competitive, like I'm still a player, but he still has Yeah, he still has it and you can get it out of him and it's uh and it's great things that he could work on or improved. 01:18:45 Speaker 8: I feel like sometimes he gets soft on the guys. 01:18:47 Speaker 4: Now you know, oh you think so? 01:18:49 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he gets. 01:18:51 Speaker 10: I think it's more of a cb A thing than him though. I think he wants to get us to work, but I think he's like kind of forced not to. And sometimes I look at him, I think he really wants to like spaz on dudes, you know, like if somebody came late, how it probably was before the CPA changed a little bit and you couldn't be as like stricter guys. I think he still has it in him and he wants to let it out, Like I don't think he's allowed to anymore. 01:19:12 Speaker 4: So you think he's lost if you think he's got a little soft Yeah. 01:19:15 Speaker 1: So what you're saying is the pacification of America. Raves is a part of that. 01:19:18 Speaker 8: No, not really, it's like forced on him. 01:19:21 Speaker 1: I mean like yeah, he's picked up bull Yeah. 01:19:24 Speaker 10: Like yeah, like he really wants to just spas on somebody for like coming late or like doing some shit that like constantly happens, but he just like not allowed to. 01:19:31 Speaker 2: Yeah, and I. 01:19:32 Speaker 10: Can see it because I'm front row, and I'm like, I think, I think he's about to do it. 01:19:36 Speaker 8: He's gonna do it, and he's like, I. 01:19:37 Speaker 4: Can't do you look at him in like a way like you're kind of sad for him because he's coming. 01:19:41 Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, because now it's like this Twitter age like in thirty minutes will come out that Raves yelled at somebody and all of a sudden, Yeah, we gotta shut the team. 01:19:51 Speaker 4: When you see it in him, next time, you should just whisper it out, bro, do we gotta? Are we good? 01:20:04 Speaker 2: All right? 01:20:04 Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll listen to your thank man. We know you guys are in the schedule. We appreciate you taking that. 01:20:07 Speaker 8: Yeah, appreciate it. 01:20:08 Speaker 6: Yeah, appreciate it.
