<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Best Mornings with Me Jeff Grub,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're gonna be talking about next gen
<v Speaker 1>consoles because a new one just got confirmed.
<v Speaker 2>And what are your Mario Daye traditions?
<v Speaker 3>Me and my family, we have a turkey, of course,
<v Speaker 3>we get the family together, we.
<v Speaker 2>Play Sonic games. We're blasphemous.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, leave the plunger out so we can leave candy
<v Speaker 3>in it. Exactly right, exactly you know, the kids know,
<v Speaker 3>the kids do that. It's gonna be a good one
<v Speaker 3>because it's Finelle Friday.
<v Speaker 4>Everybody.
<v Speaker 2>We got Jason Fonelli, Nelly, how are you doing it?
<v Speaker 4>Is that?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's a thing, Finelle Friday. Here we are, yes,
<v Speaker 3>feeling good on a Friday. Another week over heading towards
<v Speaker 3>the weekend. Here, lots of things to talk about, some
<v Speaker 3>surprising things I didn't expect to talk here about until
<v Speaker 3>next week. I thought you specifically, which shake the details
<v Speaker 3>of the first thing we're gonna talk about since you'll
<v Speaker 3>be at g DC.
<v Speaker 4>That's fun.
<v Speaker 3>Uh, but yeah, uh, it's been been an interesting week
<v Speaker 3>so far. Good, good stuff, bad stuff, weird, stuff, and
<v Speaker 3>we're gonna try and get to all of it right now.
<v Speaker 2>That's right, It's gonna be a good one.
<v Speaker 1>Uh yeah, Jason, I gotta I am going to GDC,
<v Speaker 1>so I'll be traveling here very soon and then at
<v Speaker 1>the end of the month, we'll be at Packs. Are
<v Speaker 1>you can I announce publicly that you'll be there or
<v Speaker 1>am I blowing up your sport?
<v Speaker 2>Let's go?
<v Speaker 3>Getting back to Boston for the first time in three years.
<v Speaker 3>I am so excited to check that out. I always
<v Speaker 3>like Packs East. It always was like I would go
<v Speaker 3>there and find my new indie like big game. And
<v Speaker 3>I feel like this year already with things that I've
<v Speaker 3>been approached with. Uh, there's some there's some highlights, there's
<v Speaker 3>some good ones should be good. I I'm looking forward
<v Speaker 3>to getting back out there.
<v Speaker 1>It's been a minute since I've done some traveling for
<v Speaker 1>like an event like GDC. I guess it was like
<v Speaker 1>Packs last year or something like that. But I've not
<v Speaker 1>been to GDC proper in a very long time, so
<v Speaker 1>like more than a decade. Yeah, because I I assumes
<v Speaker 1>Ammy was born, I stopped going. It was just kind
<v Speaker 1>of bad time in every year. So yeah, so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm looking forward to get back out there, hang out
<v Speaker 1>with jan, hang out with Nikki, get some get some
<v Speaker 1>work done, do a panel.
<v Speaker 2>If you're gonna be a GDC, come see my panel.
<v Speaker 2>It's gonna be good.
<v Speaker 1>Right afterwards, Phil Salvador's got his panel for the Video
<v Speaker 1>Game History Foundations, So watch that.
<v Speaker 4>You can do a double feature right there. It's gonna
<v Speaker 4>be what a one to two punch? That is hell? Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>I love that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, we are gonna have Packs East panels.
<v Speaker 1>Like we're still like working with Packs directly on exactly
<v Speaker 1>what they because we try to help them out and
<v Speaker 1>like fill in things that they need because we have
<v Speaker 1>a pretty good relationship with them, so they're kind we're
<v Speaker 1>kind of working with them currently on exactly what would
<v Speaker 1>best serve Packs East. So we'll have the final details,
<v Speaker 1>i'm sure pretty soon about when you can see us
<v Speaker 1>at Pax East. I think we've been saying generally Friday
<v Speaker 1>and or Saturday. We're gonna have multiple things, So again,
<v Speaker 1>more detail to come. All right, Hey, it's Friday, Jason,
<v Speaker 1>what do you say we get into it?
<v Speaker 4>That sound good? Let's do it, baby, here we go.
<v Speaker 1>Let's explain ourselves. Most weekdays that's the wrong thing to say.
<v Speaker 1>It's giant bomb dot com slash Join. That's how you
<v Speaker 1>become a premium member. I'm telling you it's Friday. This
<v Speaker 1>is going to be a mess of a show. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>everybody who supports us, we appreciate it because it ensures
<v Speaker 1>we can continue doing what we like to do over here,
<v Speaker 1>and we can only do it through your support because
<v Speaker 1>we are independent games media out here on our own,
<v Speaker 1>no corporate backers. We have you instead, So if you
<v Speaker 1>go to giant bomb dot com slash join, you can
<v Speaker 1>ensure all that will continue to happen. And again, we're
<v Speaker 1>very thankful to everyone who has shown up. But if
<v Speaker 1>you can't do so financially, we get it. Tell a
<v Speaker 1>friend about the site. That also helps us quite a bit.
<v Speaker 1>As far as this show goes, most weekdays, I Jeff Grubb,
<v Speaker 1>willhelp piece your gaming life back together. That includes breaking
<v Speaker 1>news and maybe even some of our own original reporting.
<v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a
<v Speaker 1>bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If
<v Speaker 1>you were watching live on twitch welcome, you can always
<v Speaker 1>listen to the show later on podcast feeds by searching
<v Speaker 1>for game mes mornings or find the RSS.
<v Speaker 2>Feed on giant bomb dot com.
<v Speaker 1>You can also catch the show later with chapters and
<v Speaker 1>timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with Xbox confirms its next
<v Speaker 1>console will run PC games and it's co named Project Helix.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Andy Robinson at VGC. Yeah, they confirmed this.
<v Speaker 1>This is something that kind of was happened while we
<v Speaker 1>were I think we were doing Marry Me Tomadacci yesterday
<v Speaker 1>and this kind of just popped up and I was like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>and then as I had a chance to go and
<v Speaker 1>read the details, it started to fit together.
<v Speaker 2>A little bit more easily for me.
<v Speaker 1>Where it's like the timing of when they were gonna
<v Speaker 1>probably start talking about this device with developers was probably
<v Speaker 1>always this GDC. So there's the choice of do you
<v Speaker 1>kind of say something because you know it's going to
<v Speaker 1>start the leak that I mean that happens a lot
<v Speaker 1>a lot of times coming out of the GDC before
<v Speaker 1>the launch of a new console. That is when we
<v Speaker 1>start to hear a lot of these rumors. So I
<v Speaker 1>bet there's there was always a conversation that they would
<v Speaker 1>start talking about it now. But I bet it doesn't
<v Speaker 1>hurt that Asha Sharma can sort of like put her
<v Speaker 1>stamp on things and be like, hey, we are moving ahead.
<v Speaker 1>And what is more moving ahead for a maker of
<v Speaker 1>a console than a new console?
<v Speaker 3>Jason h Yeah. There also seems to be a hint
<v Speaker 3>of narrative control. I feel like if they announcing that
<v Speaker 3>she's going to be a GDC to talk about it
<v Speaker 3>and then just getting out of head and saying, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>we're gonna be talking about this console sort of makes
<v Speaker 3>sense in a let's just turn the rumor mill off
<v Speaker 3>right now sort of way right right. This is what
<v Speaker 3>we're doing, This is our intention. We're not going to
<v Speaker 3>hide it. Come to see what we have to say now.
<v Speaker 3>Is it going to be informative? Probably not in this
<v Speaker 3>early stage, especially if they're going for twenty seven? Is
<v Speaker 3>it going to be one of those Mark Serni ASMR
<v Speaker 3>videos that he did for the PS five a GDC
<v Speaker 3>in twenty twenty that puts us all to sleep because
<v Speaker 3>that man I would read, I would listen to him
<v Speaker 3>read the phone book.
<v Speaker 2>Who knows?
<v Speaker 4>Who knows?
<v Speaker 3>It could just be I do think Project Helix it's
<v Speaker 3>called that because as mentioned in this little announcement that
<v Speaker 3>we got, it's gonna run Xbox and PC games intertwined helix.
<v Speaker 3>Someone someone felt real creative when I thought of that.
<v Speaker 3>But that lends to a lot of questions, right, PC games,
<v Speaker 3>How are we going to be going through Steam? Are
<v Speaker 3>we going to be going through games for Windows? Are
<v Speaker 3>we going to be going.
<v Speaker 4>Through an Xbox? The native Xbox app just translated onto
<v Speaker 4>this device?
<v Speaker 2>Is it going?
<v Speaker 3>Because I think it was you that mentioned last night
<v Speaker 3>the the marketplace, the thirty percent cut?
<v Speaker 2>Is there?
<v Speaker 4>Are they going to give people a way to get
<v Speaker 4>around that now?
<v Speaker 1>I mean if it's a PC, yeah, just straight up yeah,
<v Speaker 1>there's gonna be a lot of ways. I mean, I
<v Speaker 1>think that's why Epic has been so on board, right,
<v Speaker 1>Epic is famous for not wanting to pay those cuts,
<v Speaker 1>and it kind of a made that stand on PC
<v Speaker 1>and on mobile and made less of a stink on console.
<v Speaker 1>And I feel like it's because they had this partner
<v Speaker 1>in Xbox where they've been talking about this for a
<v Speaker 1>long time.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, I think the idea is to let.
<v Speaker 1>Let these developers and publishers do whatever they want on
<v Speaker 1>this platform. Put out you put on your own store, whatever,
<v Speaker 1>and then give people access to their Steam games and
<v Speaker 1>their epic games.
<v Speaker 2>Really the question is Xbox games.
<v Speaker 1>If this is a PC, so we're going to get
<v Speaker 1>backward compatibility from Xbox And it sounds like, yeah, that
<v Speaker 1>is exactly how they'll do it. So, if you own
<v Speaker 1>a disc for an Xbox game and it's you know,
<v Speaker 1>supported through whatever, the backward compatibility looks like here, which
<v Speaker 1>I imagine is going to be a pretty big list
<v Speaker 1>but maybe not everything, then you can put that disc
<v Speaker 1>in a drive that they sell you separately and play
<v Speaker 1>that game on this PC that is also an Xbox
<v Speaker 1>It's going to look very different. And to me it
<v Speaker 1>sounds like a competitor to the Steam machine as opposed
<v Speaker 1>to the PlayStation. So and that's probably a good position
<v Speaker 1>for Microsoft to like like retreat in two sure, because
<v Speaker 1>they could sell ten to fifteen million of these things,
<v Speaker 1>and that would make them very competitive in this PC
<v Speaker 1>consoleized space. It would make them a kind of a
<v Speaker 1>very very very distant third in the console space.
<v Speaker 4>So does that, you know, is that their motivation here?
<v Speaker 2>I don't think so.
<v Speaker 1>I think their motivation is, as a lot of people
<v Speaker 1>in chatter pointing out Jason, this is ah as always
<v Speaker 1>Xbox getting treated as the trojan horse when it was
<v Speaker 1>once the box to put windows in the living room
<v Speaker 1>in one way or another, it has now certainly transformed
<v Speaker 1>inside the walls of Microsoft into the trojan horse to
<v Speaker 1>get AI into the living room.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Probably.
<v Speaker 3>Unfortunately it's a PC, it's just going to be filled
<v Speaker 3>with copilot stuff, just sort of without without a doubt,
<v Speaker 3>and let me just put it out there so there's
<v Speaker 3>no confusion. Fuck copilot anyway. I also too, I think
<v Speaker 3>there's a there's a train of thought to follow here
<v Speaker 3>in Xbox being very inspired or intrigued by the switched dynamic,
<v Speaker 3>because if you compair this thing with your rog ally
<v Speaker 3>or any future iterations of the rog ally, you essentially
<v Speaker 3>have the switch experience right there right can play it
<v Speaker 3>on your home console, or you could take your rog
<v Speaker 3>ally and have the exact same experience, perhaps with the
<v Speaker 3>same OS. Because aren't they developing wasn't there rumors to
<v Speaker 3>that they were developing some sort of new gaming Windows
<v Speaker 3>OS specifically for this, Like yeah, apparently that's like the
<v Speaker 3>most important thing about this. According to the reporting, that
<v Speaker 3>Microsoft wants to get this right more than anything, and
<v Speaker 3>it is that dual side of basically Windows working like
<v Speaker 3>Steam OS.
<v Speaker 2>So you launch your Steam Deck, it goes into gaming mode.
<v Speaker 1>That's how this new Xbox would work, and hopefully eventually
<v Speaker 1>the Ally itself would get that update, and then you
<v Speaker 1>could go into a desktop mode and do all your
<v Speaker 1>Windows stuff there as well, and it's a full computer
<v Speaker 1>in that mode, and then it just has this very
<v Speaker 1>very streamlined version of version of its OS in the
<v Speaker 1>gaming mode. We are far away from that from what
<v Speaker 1>we've seen from them dropping the Ally, but I think
<v Speaker 1>you're right that they are building it as one ecosystem
<v Speaker 1>so that people can jump between these devices. It's just
<v Speaker 1>like inherently a little bit less compelling than what Nintendo's
<v Speaker 1>doing and even probably what PlayStation will end up doing,
<v Speaker 1>because the prices on this PC hardware is so high,
<v Speaker 1>because the subsidies just aren't there for it in the
<v Speaker 1>way that they can kind of be early on for
<v Speaker 1>a console.
<v Speaker 2>So I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, people will be into this idea because there's
<v Speaker 1>people who like gaming on Windows PCs and if this
<v Speaker 1>sort of opens up new avenues to do that, that
<v Speaker 1>will find an audience.
<v Speaker 2>It's just not the size of a console audience, so Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I think there's a question a lot of people have,
<v Speaker 1>Jason of like who is this Xbox going to be for?
<v Speaker 1>And it's for a very different person than the Xbox
<v Speaker 1>has been for up to this point. I think, except
<v Speaker 1>for those people that might have a massive collection of
<v Speaker 1>games that they acquired exclusively on Xbox, this is them saying, hey,
<v Speaker 1>we're going to throw you a bone and still give
<v Speaker 1>you a way to play those games.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, and also too, we can talk about the tech
<v Speaker 3>and the underlying communications between rock Ally and OS and
<v Speaker 3>all these other ideas till the cows come home. None
<v Speaker 3>of it means shit that the games aren't there.
<v Speaker 4>Right right?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Because you're you're you want to make an Xbox,
<v Speaker 3>you're gonna have Xbox exclusive titles hopefully, or at least
<v Speaker 3>Xbox Studios made titles. Whether you're still putting them on
<v Speaker 3>PlayStation or not, that's a whole nother discussion for later on.
<v Speaker 3>I if the games aren't there, it doesn't mean anything.
<v Speaker 3>So if they don't, I don't think there is a
<v Speaker 3>console I can think of in the last like maybe
<v Speaker 3>decade or so that has I mean, every every every
<v Speaker 3>console needs a strong launch lineup, but this one, this
<v Speaker 3>one needs, like it is vital to have a strong
<v Speaker 3>first party, first party launch light up or else it's
<v Speaker 3>dead in the water. Yeah, And it's like, I mean,
<v Speaker 3>do I I don't even know if I expect them
<v Speaker 3>to have any exclusives whatsoever. Like I know that there's
<v Speaker 3>a conversation about going back to that somewhat, but what
<v Speaker 3>they are talking about here, I just don't see how
<v Speaker 3>that really works all that well. I mean, so when
<v Speaker 3>this system comes out, when they are making a new
<v Speaker 3>game at Xbox, are they making that game a PC
<v Speaker 3>game or one of these, or an Xbox game that
<v Speaker 3>runs on the Xbox side exclusively of this PC that
<v Speaker 3>they just put out.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think so.
<v Speaker 1>I think they just make every game a PC game,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like, well, that runs on our new Xbox,
<v Speaker 1>so do the old Xbox games. But this is a
<v Speaker 1>PC game that also runs on the Xbox PC. So
<v Speaker 1>it's just inherently there's this this thing where it's like
<v Speaker 1>they are making their device so open that it would
<v Speaker 1>be kind of weird for them to be precious about exclusives.
<v Speaker 1>And I think that that puts them in a situation
<v Speaker 1>where it's like the Steam Deck again, where the Steam
<v Speaker 1>Deck doesn't have a launch lineup right, it has a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of third party games that we're going to be
<v Speaker 1>out on everything else, including PC. Now it's running on
<v Speaker 1>the Steam Deck, and I think then that's that's what
<v Speaker 1>they're trying to get at here, the best place to
<v Speaker 1>play all the games you already have, and we're not
<v Speaker 1>trying to sell exclusive So yeah, and it inherently has
<v Speaker 1>a lower ceiling because people are just going to be like,
<v Speaker 1>I can play this on a device I already own.
<v Speaker 1>I don't need this Xbox to buy specifically, right right.
<v Speaker 3>But also, as you just mentioned, that's a hard sell, right,
<v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, you can play these games you already own.
<v Speaker 3>But if the console was you know, one thousand to
<v Speaker 3>fifteen hundred dollars, because RAM prices are through the fucking roof,
<v Speaker 3>nobody's going to invest that to play a bunch of
<v Speaker 3>stuff they already have, or god forbid, they come in
<v Speaker 3>more expensive than the PlayStation, which they did last time.
<v Speaker 3>I think that I think same or yeah, maybe maybe
<v Speaker 3>it was the same. Maybe the different models is what's
<v Speaker 3>messing me up here. That could affect them as well.
<v Speaker 3>There are a lot of very big outliers here to consider.
<v Speaker 3>As we go into this next console cycle, whenever that
<v Speaker 3>may be. But I don't know. It does seem like
<v Speaker 3>Xbox and Sony are going in two different trajectories when
<v Speaker 3>it comes to access to their biggest titles right here.
<v Speaker 3>As you mentioned, it looks like they're just going to
<v Speaker 3>give everything to everybody, and they're they're pulling away from
<v Speaker 3>other platforms like PC and just saying you want to
<v Speaker 3>play our games, you have to do it here. Both
<v Speaker 3>share an inherent amount of risk, and if you put
<v Speaker 3>them next to each other, sure you'll be missing out
<v Speaker 3>on PlayStation's exclusives. But the play everything, yeah seems.
<v Speaker 2>Better, right, Yeah, I think so. I yeah, so, I
<v Speaker 2>just don't.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what the expectations inside of Microsoft are
<v Speaker 1>for this device. I bet they're pretty low. I don't
<v Speaker 1>think that they are thinking this is going to be
<v Speaker 1>their best selling Xbox. It's not going to sell like
<v Speaker 1>certainly not like the Xbox One, which I think ended up.
<v Speaker 2>Being their best selling Xbox.
<v Speaker 1>Ever not probably won't sell like the three sixty, which
<v Speaker 1>sold very very well, and the series has kind of
<v Speaker 1>been diminished since both of those. It's selling less than
<v Speaker 1>both of those, And this is like maybe older information.
<v Speaker 1>But I think that's right. And it's like, oh, I
<v Speaker 1>think it sells less than the series as well, so
<v Speaker 1>like what like, what are they like? And it feels
<v Speaker 1>like they know that. So I think they're shifting their
<v Speaker 1>strategy so much that if the if the thing sells
<v Speaker 1>five million units, they're like, well, that doesn't matter, because
<v Speaker 1>our strategy was never about this thing in the first place.
<v Speaker 3>Well based on next week, yeah, yeah, I'm sure we will.
<v Speaker 3>They're going to have a bunch of talks, I imagine,
<v Speaker 3>both private and public about this. Based on what I'm
<v Speaker 3>looking at right here, Xbox one never did catch up
<v Speaker 3>to Xbox three sixty. It did not, Okay, okay, I'm
<v Speaker 3>showing eighty four million for three sixty versus around sixty million.
<v Speaker 4>That's Xbox one.
<v Speaker 3>So nope, then, and I don't think they'll ever get
<v Speaker 3>to those three sixties sights of it.
<v Speaker 1>And it's been stepping down since then. That's that's much
<v Speaker 1>worse actually, So yeah, yep, okay, well then yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>think that they probably just expect this to continue that
<v Speaker 1>trend and oof, all right, let's take going here.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, go ahead please.
<v Speaker 3>You can also you could also argue those three sixty
<v Speaker 3>sales figures were inflated because of how many people had
<v Speaker 3>to rebuy it thanks to the red ring.
<v Speaker 1>They definitely were, but there's something to be said for
<v Speaker 1>having a console that's so good it can like people
<v Speaker 1>are like, instead of getting mad when it breaks, like
<v Speaker 1>I just need to buy another one. There's an art
<v Speaker 1>to that. There's been several consoles that have pulled that off.
<v Speaker 1>Xbox three sixty B the Worst Offender. All right, Like
<v Speaker 1>I said, let's keep going here to Nintendo direct for
<v Speaker 1>Mario Galaxy Movie coming soon, as Yoshi Popcorn Bucket revealed.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Edi mccooit at Game Spot. Nintendo has
<v Speaker 1>announced the next Nintendo Direct and it's coming up very soon.
<v Speaker 1>A Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie
<v Speaker 1>will be held on Monday, March ninth, at two pm
<v Speaker 1>Pacific time, five pm Eastern. This event will include the
<v Speaker 1>final trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is
<v Speaker 1>coming April first, and it's like the pre and if
<v Speaker 1>it's like the previous directs for Nintendo's movies, we may
<v Speaker 1>see and hear from Shagiro Miomoto and Illuminations, Chris Meladandri
<v Speaker 1>Again and then Nintendo Direct will not, however, feature any
<v Speaker 1>game information. Nintendo clarified to help set expectations. Yeah, okay,
<v Speaker 1>So we've had quite a few of these at this point,
<v Speaker 1>and I feel like we know what to expect, and
<v Speaker 1>it's usually like, hey, it's an advertisement for the movie,
<v Speaker 1>and then there's a couple of surprises about the movie,
<v Speaker 1>like they'll show the new characters and new voice actors,
<v Speaker 1>and I always have a pretty good time with this.
<v Speaker 4>We are healthily in the middle of their.
<v Speaker 1>Mario Day stuff right now, right we just had the
<v Speaker 1>Virtual Boy and Game Boy Advance games get added to NSO,
<v Speaker 1>and they are promising more stuff that we'll talk about
<v Speaker 1>for Mario Day here in a second, and the movie
<v Speaker 1>is clearly their focal point. Do you think there's a
<v Speaker 1>chance that they parlay that excitement into a Mario three
<v Speaker 1>D big triple A game announcement before the movie comes out.
<v Speaker 3>No after after. I think I think you let the
<v Speaker 3>movie happen and then you have another Nintendo Direct somewhere
<v Speaker 3>in the switch to reveal window that April somewhere in
<v Speaker 3>the middle of April, and then you put it there
<v Speaker 3>and maybe that's your holiday game or your first game
<v Speaker 3>in twenty twenty seven or something like that. Stends the
<v Speaker 3>amount of time that we're talking about Mario. Right, you
<v Speaker 3>can get feasibly a month's worth of Mario hype if
<v Speaker 3>you go Mario ten day up to the movie launch,
<v Speaker 3>then ten days after that, nine days after that you
<v Speaker 3>have a Nintendo direct, a regular old direct that just
<v Speaker 3>happens to have a three D Mario in it, right,
<v Speaker 3>and then plus a baby belt.
<v Speaker 4>A baby belt that's a fucking cheese. The Belle Bell
<v Speaker 4>Park is coming.
<v Speaker 2>Out like the cheese. Though it sounds a lot like
<v Speaker 2>the cheese.
<v Speaker 3>It sounds like it should be cheese and there should
<v Speaker 3>be cows everywhere. But yeah, so that's in there too, right,
<v Speaker 3>that's end of March yep. So you throw that in there.
<v Speaker 3>It sounds like they have a nice little pipeline of
<v Speaker 3>Mario hype going for the next month. I know, I
<v Speaker 3>am excited about this just by seeing the poster. Have
<v Speaker 3>you looked at the poster this morning? I looked at
<v Speaker 3>it a little bit. What called out to you, wart
<v Speaker 3>Wart is all in there?
<v Speaker 4>Oh? I didn't say.
<v Speaker 1>I saw I saw someone say decup villain, and I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>they're probably talking about Burdo and I looked at the poster.
<v Speaker 2>I don't see War.
<v Speaker 4>Let me take a look here the bottom left corner.
<v Speaker 3>Right, he's just hanging out with this little brown and
<v Speaker 3>this little I'm not saying the Super Mario Galaxy movie
<v Speaker 3>piss off chat, but yeah, but Wart is there right
<v Speaker 3>with Mauser. So you're gonna get some Mario to love,
<v Speaker 3>which is nice. Also, I don't know if you did this,
<v Speaker 3>but back in the first movie, there was a number
<v Speaker 3>you could text for Super Mario Brothers Plumbing and you
<v Speaker 3>kid this morning, Yes you got that texting.
<v Speaker 4>I don't think we saw him, did you? Did you
<v Speaker 4>get the other contact?
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I think they said they were going to like I looked,
<v Speaker 1>all right, So what's happening here? Explain for everybody?
<v Speaker 2>All right?
<v Speaker 3>So, so back in Super Mario, the original Super Mario movie,
<v Speaker 3>there was this number you could text and it would
<v Speaker 3>send you updates about the movie in the guise of
<v Speaker 3>a plumbing company super Mario Brother's Plumb.
<v Speaker 2>Mario brother Brother's Plumbing.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yes, this morning I got a text from them
<v Speaker 3>saying we're changing the contact to Gateway Galaxy. And when
<v Speaker 3>you open up Gateway Galaxy, the pit sure is not
<v Speaker 3>someone we've seen before.
<v Speaker 4>That's Rob. That's Rob.
<v Speaker 1>That's Rob the robot. Everybody, it's a robotic operating buddy,
<v Speaker 1>it's what that stands.
<v Speaker 2>He is.
<v Speaker 3>He's a robotic operator, but he is my gyro mate.
<v Speaker 3>And now he's here in this movie apparently, which is
<v Speaker 3>a nice little callback if you want to keep drip
<v Speaker 3>feeding me.
<v Speaker 4>Little shit like this until the movie comes out.
<v Speaker 3>That's why the the Yoshi popcorn bucket is adorable.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, I'm going to get that now.
<v Speaker 3>I sent a text to my wife this morning, Hey,
<v Speaker 3>speaking from your future, and.
<v Speaker 4>I just sent to the picture. She's like, oh cool,
<v Speaker 4>when's that happening.
<v Speaker 1>Steph sent me a text about it. Sam, We're gonna
<v Speaker 1>get this. I'm like, all right, sweet, let's go listen.
<v Speaker 3>Out of context, but that comes it sounds so much
<v Speaker 3>weirder coming out of you when my wife is also
<v Speaker 3>named Steph.
<v Speaker 2>They're all all wives are named Steph.
<v Speaker 1>That's just what we've established this in fact.
<v Speaker 3>And all moms are Karen, which is funny because my
<v Speaker 3>mom is actually Karen. It's sounded like I send it
<v Speaker 3>to her, she said it to you. Just some weird
<v Speaker 3>thing going on there. But yes, Rob Wartz. The right
<v Speaker 3>side of the poster has what is supposed to be
<v Speaker 3>Bowser Junior's little planet thing, but the little squiggly line
<v Speaker 3>that's supposed to be in mouth folks an awful, awful
<v Speaker 3>lot like a certain mustache. If you ask me so,
<v Speaker 3>I imagine we'll win too.
<v Speaker 2>I think so too.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah. Yeah, very excited for this movie. Can't wait. So
<v Speaker 4>the Mario stuff does continue.
<v Speaker 1>There is other festivities for Mario Day that includes those
<v Speaker 1>NSO games. This is from Nintendo Wire. There's not a
<v Speaker 1>ton here like this is. This is a sort of
<v Speaker 1>relaying of what Nintendo has said about what they plan
<v Speaker 1>to do for Mario Day. And Nintendo's like, we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>have Mario games on the NSO that you could play,
<v Speaker 1>like just reminding people to go play Mario games on NSO.
<v Speaker 1>Now that does include the new Virtual Boy games and
<v Speaker 1>the Game Boy Advanced version of Mario versus Donkey Kong.
<v Speaker 1>But still it's like, Okay, we already announced that they're
<v Speaker 1>gonna have Mario related game sales from March eight through
<v Speaker 1>the fourteenth. They don't look like great discounts, but there's
<v Speaker 1>a handful that might be promising. They're gonna have a
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart World event throughout March. The Mario Kart World
<v Speaker 1>Mind Nintendo Open offers weekly races versus races, coin Runners
<v Speaker 1>Knockout Tour, where participation earns three hundred and ten min
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo Platinum points.
<v Speaker 2>We should do that.
<v Speaker 1>I like those platinum points. I can see stuff from
<v Speaker 1>their weird store every once in a while. And then
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna have in person events that are meeting greets
<v Speaker 1>with Mario to be held at the Nintendo Store in
<v Speaker 1>New York and San Francisco on March tenth. And then
<v Speaker 1>they have like some sweepstakes for the Universal Studios theme park. Okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that sounds pretty good. I get it, Like it's mostly
<v Speaker 1>just an advertisement for other Mario stuff. That's always what
<v Speaker 1>Mario Day is. Does it feel like they're holding anything back?
<v Speaker 1>I saw people being like, Hey, maybe they pull a
<v Speaker 1>Mario the Original Mario movie and kind of announce the
<v Speaker 1>new Mario game in the credits of like this movie
<v Speaker 1>or something like that. You don't think they have the
<v Speaker 1>potential of doing anything like that these days, right?
<v Speaker 3>Oh no, no, not not with screeners and leaks and
<v Speaker 3>things like that. I would think they they for all
<v Speaker 3>of the leaks that happen in games once in a while,
<v Speaker 3>unless someone goes into their servers and pulls a gig
<v Speaker 3>eleak sort of thing. Right, they tend to keep things
<v Speaker 3>close to their chest, right. They tend to be pretty
<v Speaker 3>good at that. So I don't think they would risk
<v Speaker 3>attaching the end of the next Big Mario game anywhere
<v Speaker 3>in this movie at all, right, at least not in
<v Speaker 3>the first weekend run right, maybe after that if my
<v Speaker 3>Nintendo Direct prediction is a little earlier than I think. So,
<v Speaker 3>if they movie comes out April first, you have the
<v Speaker 3>direct on April I don't know, eighth whatever that whatever
<v Speaker 3>the calendar looks like there, and then you put the
<v Speaker 3>trailer for the New Marrio movie at the end of
<v Speaker 3>the movie going forward.
<v Speaker 2>Oh do that.
<v Speaker 3>But I don't think it's gonna happen right when the
<v Speaker 3>movie comes now. I think, I really do think they're
<v Speaker 3>just focused on the movie itself right now, as indicative
<v Speaker 3>by these other celebrations like Super Mario Party, Jambourine intend
<v Speaker 3>to switch to Edition plus Jamboree TV. Being ten dollars
<v Speaker 3>off is not a big deal, right, but it could
<v Speaker 3>if you look at it a certain way. All these
<v Speaker 3>things together could be the beginning of the fortieth anniversary celebration,
<v Speaker 3>and they extend it for as long as they.
<v Speaker 4>Can, right, I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I mean yeah, they at least extended through the run
<v Speaker 1>of the movie, and it's like that they will not
<v Speaker 1>be quiet about it through there, and that gives them
<v Speaker 1>a lot of time to fill in the gaps with
<v Speaker 1>a real, eventual Nintendo direct where we actually get all
<v Speaker 1>the answers to these kinds of questions, even if that
<v Speaker 1>answer is there's not a three D Mario game to
<v Speaker 1>announce yet because it's too soon after Donkey Kong, which
<v Speaker 1>is still a possibility. Sure, all right, that does it
<v Speaker 1>for the Mario Day talk. Let's take a break, everybody.
<v Speaker 1>We got plenty of more headlines to get into. We'll
<v Speaker 1>do that right after these messages. If you want to
<v Speaker 1>skip out on the ads, go to GiantBomb dot com
<v Speaker 1>slash join become a premium member there. You could find
<v Speaker 1>ad reversions of the video and audio shows. In the meantime,
<v Speaker 1>we will be right back. All right, we are back.
<v Speaker 1>It's Game mess Mornings. Jeff Grubb, Jason Finelli. Let's do
<v Speaker 1>some more headlines here after five years Star Wars Knights
<v Speaker 1>of the Old Republic remake gets an eleven word update.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Darren Bontius at GameSpot. Five years after
<v Speaker 1>it was first announced, Saber Interactive Star Wars Knights of
<v Speaker 1>the Old Republic remake has finally gotten an update, albeit
<v Speaker 1>a very predictable one. In a new interview, Saber Chief
<v Speaker 1>Chief creative Officer Tim Willitts offered a terse summary of
<v Speaker 1>the project's current status. He said, quote, yes, it is
<v Speaker 1>still in development. That's all I can say. The game
<v Speaker 1>was first revealed in twenty twenty one. Details on the
<v Speaker 1>remake of the Byword classic have essentially been non existent
<v Speaker 1>for the last couple of years, but reports have serviced
<v Speaker 1>since then of a turbulent development cycle. Back in twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty five, it was claimed that a developer, Aspire, had
<v Speaker 1>been removed from the project and that the studio behind
<v Speaker 1>the upcoming Hell Raiser revival, Madhead Games, was handed the
<v Speaker 1>reins of the remake. The same report also claimed that
<v Speaker 1>a potential remake of the Star Wars Knights of the
<v Speaker 1>Old Republic two had been put on hold while work
<v Speaker 1>continues on Kotor Star Wars fans can also look forward
<v Speaker 1>to a new one, Fate of the Old Republic being
<v Speaker 1>made by a new studio. Yeah, So you know, this
<v Speaker 1>keeps coming up because there is obviously still the weirdness
<v Speaker 1>around the original announcement of this game, which happened at
<v Speaker 1>a PlayStation showcase and.
<v Speaker 4>PlayStation say to play one of them, Yeah, yes, and
<v Speaker 4>PlayStation was.
<v Speaker 1>Involved in the publishing, and then since then, the trailer
<v Speaker 1>for that announcement has been removed by PlayStation from its
<v Speaker 1>YouTube page.
<v Speaker 2>And that's because, as I reported.
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation did not want anything to do with this game
<v Speaker 1>in the state it was in when it was being
<v Speaker 1>developed by Aspire. After getting updated about it, they're like,
<v Speaker 1>we're out, We're not involved. I don't think that's changed.
<v Speaker 1>I think Sony's still not involved with this project. I
<v Speaker 1>think I don't think that is going to change back.
<v Speaker 1>But it has been taken over by a Saber and
<v Speaker 1>the studio it's working with to get it done, and
<v Speaker 1>they've been working on it ever since. It's been a while.
<v Speaker 1>This thing's probably due to reappear here pretty pretty soon,
<v Speaker 1>especially with Fate of the Old Republic getting announced. It's like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>how do you try to set up those two things
<v Speaker 1>to sort of compliment one another. I bet Lucasfilm is
<v Speaker 1>interested in that. What do you take away from this?
<v Speaker 2>You know?
<v Speaker 1>Yet another confirmation, this time from the actual head of Saber.
<v Speaker 3>He could he he could barely say less right he
<v Speaker 3>eleven words? That's all you got for us. You can't
<v Speaker 3>elaborate a little bit, can't tell us what's going on.
<v Speaker 3>You have a whole generation of people hanging on to
<v Speaker 3>this remake by a thread, and all you give them
<v Speaker 3>is eleven words of encouragement. That seems not great?
<v Speaker 4>Right?
<v Speaker 3>Like that, you could have said, you know, we've had
<v Speaker 3>a couple the obstacle, or back on track, or you'll
<v Speaker 3>hear something relatively soon if you would. I mean, he
<v Speaker 3>can make that decision, right, He's he's the chief creative officer.
<v Speaker 3>He can do whatever the hell he wants, even if
<v Speaker 3>it's wrong. But I I don't know. And then to
<v Speaker 3>hear that madhead Games, which I can barely say without snickering,
<v Speaker 3>is taking over the development of this after also doing
<v Speaker 3>Hell Raiser is fifty to fifty right because Hell Raiser
<v Speaker 3>looks nuts. It's right cool, that looks cool. It looks
<v Speaker 3>like they're really capturing what that franchise is supposed to
<v Speaker 3>do that took Knights of the Old Republic is a
<v Speaker 3>bit of a pivot, right, Yeah, it's a little old.
<v Speaker 1>But it's like I do think Sabers like the way
<v Speaker 1>they seem to approach things is like, let's just get
<v Speaker 1>teams that are very technically capable and like know how
<v Speaker 1>to work with the tools they have, and then you know,
<v Speaker 1>the content matters less in terms of like the stylized
<v Speaker 1>or the stylisation of the content. Like, oh, one's sci
<v Speaker 1>fi and adventurous and one's a scary Morgan. They're both
<v Speaker 1>kind of they're both single player games with with with
<v Speaker 1>story elements and and recognizable characters that need to be
<v Speaker 1>sort of portrayed in a way that people can instantly,
<v Speaker 1>you know, glom Onto, I could see how this can
<v Speaker 1>work if they can just if they can get over
<v Speaker 1>that hump of like working on something that is slightly different.
<v Speaker 1>I'm I'm pretty interested in this and pretty confident, just
<v Speaker 1>because they have been a little bit defiant ever since
<v Speaker 1>that the stuff did fall through and they did take
<v Speaker 1>over from a spire and they're like, no, we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>get this done, and we believe in it. At least
<v Speaker 1>that's kind of the word I always hear out of
<v Speaker 1>out of a saber. So yeah, I think that we
<v Speaker 1>should see this pretty soon. You're right, if it was soon,
<v Speaker 1>I wish you would have just said, hey, we do
<v Speaker 1>have something coming soon.
<v Speaker 4>It must not be ready yet.
<v Speaker 3>And I think that's why he can only say so much,
<v Speaker 3>because it's it's just enough spot where it's like they
<v Speaker 3>need to let the team cook and that's and that's
<v Speaker 3>all they have going for it right now. And maybe
<v Speaker 3>that changes here relative and you know, in the next
<v Speaker 3>few months.
<v Speaker 1>This thing could also take a couple more years, right, Like,
<v Speaker 1>there's no guarantee that it's going to come out soon, right.
<v Speaker 3>And meanwhile, chronic dreams like that, don't look over here.
<v Speaker 3>We've got nothing going on, don't even don't pay attention
<v Speaker 3>to us. Eclipse is just a thing. But I think also,
<v Speaker 3>I think both of these companies are going to benefit
<v Speaker 3>from focus being taken off of them because we're getting
<v Speaker 3>zero company and Galactic Racer alone could do a lot
<v Speaker 3>of good based on how that's looking, you're I so
<v Speaker 3>maybe they're kind of hedging their bets that these Star
<v Speaker 3>Wars games are good enough that the fans are associated
<v Speaker 3>and they can just kind of go head down, figure
<v Speaker 3>things out, and come back when they're ready. But attention
<v Speaker 3>will turn to them again, especially if we start to
<v Speaker 3>hear about fate of the Old Republic before we hear
<v Speaker 3>more about Kotor.
<v Speaker 4>That would be a disaster.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, so, I mean, and it's and you know, if
<v Speaker 1>they come out back to back, like if koetor remake
<v Speaker 1>can come, even if codem remake comes out like right
<v Speaker 1>after FO Tour, I think they can make it work.
<v Speaker 1>But it's it's gonna be it'll be better if they
<v Speaker 1>can get Kotor out quite a bit before that.
<v Speaker 2>So we'll see that. That uh, a chronic dream game.
<v Speaker 1>I remember when it got announced, but I don't remember
<v Speaker 1>what year that was, but it was a long time ago,
<v Speaker 1>right We're talking four years.
<v Speaker 4>Was it the same showcase? Right around the same showcase?
<v Speaker 4>It was a one I think what was it it was?
<v Speaker 1>That might even go back to like the launch of
<v Speaker 1>the PS five. I mean, so it might be twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty even.
<v Speaker 4>I will take a look at that. Either way, it's
<v Speaker 4>like we'll be on to something here.
<v Speaker 1>At the time, I remember being like, hey, I'm hearing
<v Speaker 1>a lot of like this game's not coming until twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty seven. Uh, and it was like then the other
<v Speaker 1>report be like, now it's coming out next year, twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty two or whatever.
<v Speaker 5>It was.
<v Speaker 4>Okay, so this was a Game Awards twenty twenty one.
<v Speaker 2>There we go.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, that sounds right, Okay, yep, so okay, so yeah
<v Speaker 1>that was That's a long time and we still have
<v Speaker 1>just not seen a peep of that game either. So
<v Speaker 1>I'm twenty twenty seven starting to look pretty right for
<v Speaker 1>that one. Okay, let's keep going here. Pokemon Company stands
<v Speaker 1>firm against the White House's political meme.
<v Speaker 2>This is from Amy Hart at Polygon.
<v Speaker 1>The Pokemon Company has issued a statement pushing back against
<v Speaker 1>the White House's use of Pokemon branding and imagery and
<v Speaker 1>its political propaganda. On Thursday, the White House took to
<v Speaker 1>the social media website Twitter and posted an image designed
<v Speaker 1>to mimic Pokemon's new game Pacopia, featuring the words make
<v Speaker 1>America Great Again, a slogan used by the Trump administration
<v Speaker 1>to usher in a racist future. In the background of
<v Speaker 1>the posted meme, Iconic series characters such as Pikachu, Magic Harp,
<v Speaker 1>and Slowpoke can be seen, while fans have also used
<v Speaker 1>Pocopia's font for funny posts The White House's politically motivated
<v Speaker 1>post prompted the Pokemon Company to respond, we are aware
<v Speaker 1>of recent social content that includes imagery associated with our brand.
<v Speaker 1>Seventhyrothy dev, a company spoke person, said in a statement
<v Speaker 1>given to The New York Times, we were not involved
<v Speaker 1>in its creation or distribution, and no permission was granted
<v Speaker 1>for the use of our intellectual property. Our mission is
<v Speaker 1>to bring the world together, and that mission is not
<v Speaker 1>affiliated with any political viewpoint or agenda. I think people
<v Speaker 1>are giving them a little bit of extra credit here, Jason,
<v Speaker 1>because no other company right now has released like Microsoft
<v Speaker 1>got had its call of Duty stuff used in an
<v Speaker 1>atrocious post about the war in Iran, and it's just
<v Speaker 1>call of duty images and how fun it must be
<v Speaker 1>to kill people. And Microsoft didn't say anything. Activision has
<v Speaker 1>not said anything at least as far as I'm aware,
<v Speaker 1>And people were expecting the Pokemon Company to kind of
<v Speaker 1>do the same thing here, and at the very least
<v Speaker 1>they did come out and publicly say that they were
<v Speaker 1>not involved in They don't approve of it. I don't
<v Speaker 1>think this is the toughest stance to take, though, but
<v Speaker 1>they did something.
<v Speaker 2>What do you think.
<v Speaker 4>It's the same that this can be done with such impunity.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and.
<v Speaker 4>Also I understand why they don't rock the boat. It's
<v Speaker 4>just the situation.
<v Speaker 3>It's the situation we find ourselves in right now, especially
<v Speaker 3>with a foreign company like Pokemon, right they if they
<v Speaker 3>come out here and say, hey, you do that again,
<v Speaker 3>We're going to suit you into the ground, then the
<v Speaker 3>hate machine starts right and the hate machine could go
<v Speaker 3>all the way back to you know, the Japanese government,
<v Speaker 3>which is leaning slightly more to the right now as
<v Speaker 3>I understand it, and they could try to get Curry
<v Speaker 3>into good graces with Asian Orange, and then we're it's
<v Speaker 3>all of a sudden, Pokemon is coming under all this
<v Speaker 3>despite being the most popular franchise in the entire world.
<v Speaker 2>It is bleak.
<v Speaker 3>It is frustrating. It makes me very like that was
<v Speaker 3>a fun thing we were all doing with the Pocopia generator,
<v Speaker 3>right like people were writing dumb shit. I put the
<v Speaker 3>Scott Steiner Steiner math in there just to be dumb,
<v Speaker 3>like we were having a good time. And then they
<v Speaker 3>had to go and pissing our soup, as they tend
<v Speaker 3>to do. I mean, it has to infect everything. It's
<v Speaker 3>just necessary for how fascism works.
<v Speaker 2>It just they have to.
<v Speaker 1>They want you constantly thinking about them. That has to
<v Speaker 1>be every part of our life has to be completely
<v Speaker 1>filled with them. And so yeah, of course they weren't
<v Speaker 1>gonna leave us alone, and it's it's just, of course,
<v Speaker 1>it has to do with a you know, a terrible
<v Speaker 1>administration that is running the most dystopian war I've seen
<v Speaker 1>in my life, and it's deeply troubling just how unhinged
<v Speaker 1>everything about this is. Where it's like, can't you can't
<v Speaker 1>trust anything, like it seems very clear what's happening. No
<v Speaker 1>one in the Western media is kind of just flat
<v Speaker 1>out saying what's happening. And then the fun little stuff
<v Speaker 1>we used to kind of try to try to escape,
<v Speaker 1>which I'm brave enough to admit I am very cowardly
<v Speaker 1>and weak enough to be like someone who does need
<v Speaker 1>these escapes right now because it's it's kind of tough
<v Speaker 1>out there. And so for them to kind of once
<v Speaker 1>again take over another one of these corners, even just
<v Speaker 1>in a tiny way like this is very frustrating to
<v Speaker 1>see and you do want to just say, hey, this
<v Speaker 1>company that is famous for suing everybody that goes for
<v Speaker 1>both Nintendo and the Pokemon Company, although in this case
<v Speaker 1>it would be the Pokemon Company.
<v Speaker 2>You know, do something, do something more than this.
<v Speaker 3>You would do it if it was an individual making
<v Speaker 3>a fan mod of your game.
<v Speaker 2>Why not stand up to someone who certainly deserves it.
<v Speaker 3>But it's it's easy to pick on someone who's not
<v Speaker 3>your size, especially easy to not do it to someone
<v Speaker 3>who's much bigger and has nukes. And the worst part
<v Speaker 3>is the people who do decide to fuck this we're
<v Speaker 3>going after You seem to have some pretty good success, right,
<v Speaker 3>Like the tariffs were made illegal. I think there was
<v Speaker 3>a someone in Taco, right. Trump always chickens out right.
<v Speaker 3>It's it's like you seem, yeah, you have to just
<v Speaker 3>like be ready to withstand the hate machine. As you
<v Speaker 3>pointed out, Like, yeah, like as soon as he points
<v Speaker 3>his his psychos at the Pokemon Company, Nintendo, they will
<v Speaker 3>pay a price that will be very will shake them.
<v Speaker 3>It will be traumatizing actually, and it's you know for
<v Speaker 3>the actual people who work at that company, let alone
<v Speaker 3>any money that they might have to deal with to
<v Speaker 3>spend to deal with the situation. But yeah, you just
<v Speaker 3>if you just kind of stand up a little bit,
<v Speaker 3>eventually You're going to look better on the other side,
<v Speaker 3>and at some point the fever has to break and
<v Speaker 3>you want to be one of these companies, you know.
<v Speaker 3>I know they don't want to be, but they should
<v Speaker 3>want to be one of these companies that actually did something. Obviously,
<v Speaker 3>we can't rely on companies to do anything here.
<v Speaker 1>That's the whole point. Is the reason he has power
<v Speaker 1>is the elite have decided this is normal and okay
<v Speaker 1>because it benefits them.
<v Speaker 3>That is also on an aspect of fascism. So what
<v Speaker 3>can we do about it other than the things we need.
<v Speaker 2>To do about it?
<v Speaker 4>Uh all right?
<v Speaker 1>Arc Raiders was recording private discord dms. Another fun story.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Blair mar Allen Games. There's a reasonable
<v Speaker 1>expectation for privacy that comes with using direct messages, but
<v Speaker 1>no one should ever count on that. That's what some
<v Speaker 1>players may be discovering now that they've learned that Embark
<v Speaker 1>Studios Arc Graders was recording and storing their discord dms.
<v Speaker 1>According to Insider Gaming, the issue was uncovered by a
<v Speaker 1>computer engineer, Timothy Meadows. He discovered that when arc Graders
<v Speaker 1>was linked to players discord accounts, it stored their private
<v Speaker 1>messages locally on their PCs, as well as the Discord
<v Speaker 1>tokens needed to access them. If Embark had been intentionally
<v Speaker 1>spying on its players, that could have been enough to
<v Speaker 1>go through all of their private messages. Embark has already
<v Speaker 1>acknowledged the issue and shared a hot fix to take
<v Speaker 1>care of it on the game's discord channel. Embark stated
<v Speaker 1>that excessive user information had been saved, and the company
<v Speaker 1>assured players that their personal info and messages weren't reviewed
<v Speaker 1>or stored outside of their own machine.
<v Speaker 4>I don't believe you.
<v Speaker 1>I don't believe any of you fuckers anymore, like okay
<v Speaker 1>the one that really and I got to just remember
<v Speaker 1>this for the rest of my life. It is a
<v Speaker 1>lesson that I need to have learned the story about Hey,
<v Speaker 1>doesn't it feel like when we have a conversation in
<v Speaker 1>our home between ourselves, our loved ones, with me with
<v Speaker 1>my children and me with my significant other that when
<v Speaker 1>I go to do something on the internet, it feels
<v Speaker 1>like a piece of information that only happened in one
<v Speaker 1>of those conversations started showing.
<v Speaker 2>Up as an ad in my life from Google.
<v Speaker 1>Well that's weird, but they probably are figuring out some
<v Speaker 1>other way Nope, they were listening to you. They were
<v Speaker 1>listening to you. They actually were listening to you. And
<v Speaker 1>it's like, oh, they are always doing the thing. Every
<v Speaker 1>time the person out there that's saying the sky is
<v Speaker 1>falling and we dismiss it, or I dismissed it. I
<v Speaker 1>won't put that on anyone else. I was wrong, they
<v Speaker 1>were right, and it's going to be right here as well.
<v Speaker 1>They did this on purpose so they could have more
<v Speaker 1>of your information. They've taken so much of our information
<v Speaker 1>and sold it and traded it and build profiles to
<v Speaker 1>better exploit us. Of course this seemed normal to them,
<v Speaker 1>one more step on this path that we're already on,
<v Speaker 1>this dark, dark path that we're on.
<v Speaker 4>Of course they took the next step.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I like this is the kind of thing where it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>this company embark has just had several strikes against them,
<v Speaker 1>the AI voices this stuff.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's time that they just get.
<v Speaker 1>Slapped by somebody, like the European Union should come down
<v Speaker 1>and slap these guys for this.
<v Speaker 4>This is make an example of them kind of behavior.
<v Speaker 2>Right.
<v Speaker 4>Oh, it's egregious.
<v Speaker 3>It's the there's an expectation of privacy there that apparently
<v Speaker 3>does not apply to these companies, or so they think, right,
<v Speaker 3>this is like I hadn't even heard about this, This
<v Speaker 3>is the first time hearing about it. And but why
<v Speaker 3>why do they need these direct Are they looking for
<v Speaker 3>critiques about the game? Are they looking for like what
<v Speaker 3>the fuck do they.
<v Speaker 2>Even need to be in there for?
<v Speaker 1>I mean, like I think it's like the se why
<v Speaker 1>is always sort of like one layer below, get me
<v Speaker 1>as much data as possible, and like there's a marching
<v Speaker 1>order to get as much data as possible about the
<v Speaker 1>players so we can use every single detail we know
<v Speaker 1>about them to better position our game to succeed.
<v Speaker 2>Another example, like I think in the early days of Overwatch, or.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe the middle days of Overwatch, I remember the chat
<v Speaker 1>being or in like the the matchmaking being like surprisingly
<v Speaker 1>efficient at putting people together that would be likely to
<v Speaker 1>talk about the same things in chat. So I remember
<v Speaker 1>I would always bring up I was watching a lot
<v Speaker 1>of RuPaul's Drag Race with Stephanie back then, and I
<v Speaker 1>would always like bring up my favorite queen in chat
<v Speaker 1>every once in a while. And I started getting put
<v Speaker 1>in games with other people who had their screen names
<v Speaker 1>as some of those queens.
<v Speaker 2>I had mentioned, and it was like, that is not
<v Speaker 2>a coincidence.
<v Speaker 1>Obviously, they are using anything I've said in here to
<v Speaker 1>put me in games with other people that I might
<v Speaker 1>be able to have more of a conversation with. So
<v Speaker 1>if the game becomes stickier, they are doing that, like
<v Speaker 1>not one hundred percent of the time, because it's like
<v Speaker 1>that doesn't account for all the times they're able to
<v Speaker 1>overlap over and over to hit you from different angles.
<v Speaker 1>They're doing it ten thousand percent of the time. They
<v Speaker 1>are coming at you with ways to position their product
<v Speaker 1>so that it, you know, infiltrates your life from every angle.
<v Speaker 1>And so I don't think they're like, hey, we have
<v Speaker 1>a very specific plan for how we're going to use
<v Speaker 1>these discord dms, but it's part of a wider web.
<v Speaker 1>And that's the like, so when we talk about regulation,
<v Speaker 1>talk about the EU coming after them, I'm not saying like,
<v Speaker 1>go there and just punish them for this thing. We
<v Speaker 1>need to this overall over arguing behavior needs to be
<v Speaker 1>dealt with. This idea that our data is so up
<v Speaker 1>for grabs that it can be treated willy nilly, that
<v Speaker 1>needs to be regulated. You know, it should go so
<v Speaker 1>far as every gigabyte of data collected about us results
<v Speaker 1>in a payment made to us by these companies, So
<v Speaker 1>at least they have to think about it first. That's
<v Speaker 1>that's value I created by existing, and you're you're getting
<v Speaker 1>value from it? Now, why do you get the money
<v Speaker 1>from it? And I get nothing? At least just build
<v Speaker 1>some barriers here, So these companies have to stop and
<v Speaker 1>think before they do something like this.
<v Speaker 4>It is egregious and frustrating. It's only getting worse.
<v Speaker 3>There are two stories I can think of outside of
<v Speaker 3>this where something similar happened. There was one with I
<v Speaker 3>think proton Mail. It was found that they were giving
<v Speaker 3>information to the FBI and ICE for something. And then
<v Speaker 3>Kyle who runs Life three sixty they a study came
<v Speaker 3>out from Georgia Tech that basically said their security is
<v Speaker 3>so shit that a stalker could need like two or
<v Speaker 3>three pieces of information and know where their prey is
<v Speaker 3>at all times thanks to these these fucking apps.
<v Speaker 4>So like, what are we fucking doing here?
<v Speaker 2>What are we doing here?
<v Speaker 4>Right there?
<v Speaker 3>They they these these tech sorry, these tech companies are
<v Speaker 3>basically cashing in on the fact that we spent two
<v Speaker 3>decades in a era of technology of convenience, right where
<v Speaker 3>their things were not necessary, but they were nice to have,
<v Speaker 3>And now they've stuck all these things in there that
<v Speaker 3>they are saying.
<v Speaker 4>That are now necessary. You need AI.
<v Speaker 3>You need these things for safety and peace of mind,
<v Speaker 3>and we're all fucking falling for it when we live
<v Speaker 3>just as fine without it as we eventually will without
<v Speaker 3>it again, when either the bubble bursts or people come
<v Speaker 3>to their fucking senses. It's frustrating to be played with
<v Speaker 3>like this, our emotions, our anxieties. People talk about anxiety
<v Speaker 3>and depression being at all time. You think it's on
<v Speaker 3>fucking purpose.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's clear against us, I mean for real, Like
<v Speaker 1>I will always point to that one day on Instagram
<v Speaker 1>where the algorithm broke and it started showing people gore
<v Speaker 1>and terrible like sexual videos and sexual violence.
<v Speaker 2>Videos, and like, oh man, and just the algorithm broke.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, no, that was part of a literal sig
<v Speaker 1>op that these companies were using against us to make
<v Speaker 1>us feel anxious and vulnerable so Trump would have a
<v Speaker 1>better chance of winning. It happened, right, and the line
<v Speaker 1>lead up to that it was all about pitting us
<v Speaker 1>against one another, a lot of racist stuff so that
<v Speaker 1>you get what you get pitted against other races, and
<v Speaker 1>it was so clear that that's what happened. They know
<v Speaker 1>what they're doing, and they know how to use this
<v Speaker 1>stuff against us, and it's at a certain point that
<v Speaker 1>is going to have to break as well.
<v Speaker 4>It reminds me of I'm sorry my kids.
<v Speaker 3>My kid's school got hit with like a ransomware attack
<v Speaker 3>a couple of years ago, and I couldn't fucking figure
<v Speaker 3>out why. It's a polling place. Yeah yeah, and it
<v Speaker 3>happened in like September.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, of course, let's keep this dystopia world.
<v Speaker 2>Who are going?
<v Speaker 1>With one last story on that topic, PlayStation five is
<v Speaker 1>showing different players different prices for the same game.
<v Speaker 2>This is from Lewis Parker at Kotaku.
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation users have just spotted that Sony is experimenting with
<v Speaker 1>a quote new pricing method often referred to as ab pricing,
<v Speaker 1>that offers users different prices on the PlayStation store. Unfortunately,
<v Speaker 1>this isn't actually new, as Sony has been offering users
<v Speaker 1>dynamic prices for several months now, as noted by push
<v Speaker 1>Square a few hours ago. A thread titled PSN game
<v Speaker 1>prices goes up when signing in was posted on the
<v Speaker 1>r Mildly Infuriating subreddit. As you could see from the
<v Speaker 1>image in the thread, Assassin's Creed Unity should be on
<v Speaker 1>sale for three three pounds seventy four cents pence whatever
<v Speaker 1>it is in the UK. However, after logging into their
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation network account, the user noticed that it was that
<v Speaker 1>they were instead offered the price of nine to ninety nine.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Cool.
<v Speaker 1>Dynamic pricing is something that is going to sneak into
<v Speaker 1>our lives, like all this other stuff more and more.
<v Speaker 3>It's not illegal even in the EU, it's not illegal.
<v Speaker 3>In fact, I think it's been ruled to be allowed.
<v Speaker 1>You would hope though, that instead these companies would be
<v Speaker 1>afraid of the very loud and demanding gamer user base
<v Speaker 1>that they're trying to sell people to sell people, sell
<v Speaker 1>things to, because these are people that like to hunt
<v Speaker 1>for discounts and feel like they have command over the
<v Speaker 1>price that they pay for. Something that is part of
<v Speaker 1>our culture as gamers is looking for deals, selling games
<v Speaker 1>used making the money, making the dollar really stretch. And
<v Speaker 1>one of the ways we do that is by collectively
<v Speaker 1>sharing prices with one another and being like, heyre's here's
<v Speaker 1>a good deal, and that is like part of how
<v Speaker 1>we are are are manipulated into spending games because they
<v Speaker 1>made us feel like we got a good deal. If
<v Speaker 1>the deal feels like it could potentially be a lie,
<v Speaker 1>if I don't trust that this price is like the
<v Speaker 1>lowest price I could get because they know I want
<v Speaker 1>to buy this game, so they're just charging me that
<v Speaker 1>extra four or five percent on top, Like suddenly all
<v Speaker 1>that culture shatters and it's it's it's this, Oh, they're
<v Speaker 1>just going to find ways to get me at my
<v Speaker 1>most vulnerable moment to get me to spend the most
<v Speaker 1>money as possible on this product. And it's just another
<v Speaker 1>time that they're using all this data against us, right,
<v Speaker 1>and not to mention.
<v Speaker 3>It it seems bad courts the fact that you're subscribed
<v Speaker 3>to PlayStation Network and you're getting the higher price you
<v Speaker 3>should be getting the dis kounded price for being a member.
<v Speaker 3>Should you not anything about nothing about this makes any sense?
<v Speaker 3>But you're completely right. Dynamic pricing, surge pricing, as the
<v Speaker 3>rideshare apps like to call it, just one more layer
<v Speaker 3>of bullshit on a increasingly large bullshit sandwich. Isn't it
<v Speaker 3>all these again, these things of convenience have become importance,
<v Speaker 3>and now they're being turned against us, and it's just
<v Speaker 3>a matter of time.
<v Speaker 1>I feel like, yep, the movie, you know, the showing
<v Speaker 1>of movies industry that you know, the theaters tried dynamic
<v Speaker 1>pricing for seats a few months ago, maybe last year sometime,
<v Speaker 1>maybe a little bit longer, and there was a pretty
<v Speaker 1>big revolt against that, and I don't I bet it.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe it probably a snuck back in at some places,
<v Speaker 1>but I just remember people being like, Hey, we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>be loud about this because this sucks and we don't
<v Speaker 1>want to deal with this, and that kind of helped
<v Speaker 1>quell that at least initially.
<v Speaker 3>Hey remember when they tried to sell Out of Worlds
<v Speaker 3>Too for seventy bucks and we all went, you better
<v Speaker 3>fucking not and we're.
<v Speaker 2>Like, yeah, that's right, man.
<v Speaker 1>And now it's like if they released that at seventy bucks,
<v Speaker 1>now it'd be like like a few months later really
<v Speaker 1>and like, yeah, I guess whatever, all right, So different
<v Speaker 1>prices on PlayStation. Last couple of stories here, Sega explains
<v Speaker 1>why it is so important for them to have Yakaza
<v Speaker 1>on the Nintendo switch to This is from Nintendo Everything.
<v Speaker 1>Yakizas series chief director Rusque Horri has spoken about why
<v Speaker 1>it's so important for the Yakaza series to be represented
<v Speaker 1>on switch To. Sega has slowly been bringing over franchises,
<v Speaker 1>bringing over the franchises different games since the console launched
<v Speaker 1>last year. This continued with the Yakisa Kawami three and
<v Speaker 1>Dark Ties last month. It was notable since for the
<v Speaker 1>first time, the series had a new game launching day
<v Speaker 1>and date on a Nintendo system alongside other platforms. Nike
<v Speaker 1>Across Trend recently asked Horry about Yakiza coming.
<v Speaker 2>To switch To.
<v Speaker 1>Although we unsure if the series will sell well on
<v Speaker 1>the console immediately, he believes potential fans could pick up
<v Speaker 1>the games down the road and approach, and the approach
<v Speaker 1>allows Sega to broaden its reach. So I think this
<v Speaker 1>is a shift we've seen Jason about and this is like, again,
<v Speaker 1>give Capcom credit for Resident Evil and sort of establishing
<v Speaker 1>this and it really it just paid off with Requiem,
<v Speaker 1>where it's like we have a catalog of games in
<v Speaker 1>a series and the fact that there are so many
<v Speaker 1>of them eventually does benefit all of them because once
<v Speaker 1>you get someone into one of those games, they are
<v Speaker 1>much more likely to buy the next one, and then
<v Speaker 1>if they play two, I bet they're almost guaranteed to
<v Speaker 1>buy a third. And if you buy a third, it's
<v Speaker 1>like one hundred percent of the time. They're going to
<v Speaker 1>keep They're going to keep getting the rest of these games.
<v Speaker 1>And they're going to do that because they feel like
<v Speaker 1>they made an investment in their time playing a game
<v Speaker 1>and it's going to pay off because there's so much
<v Speaker 1>more to explore, so many other characters to meet other,
<v Speaker 1>so much more story to experience. And I think that
<v Speaker 1>they have seen that that has worked on other consoles,
<v Speaker 1>and so the fact that they're putting these games out
<v Speaker 1>on switch to slowly but surely the idea is maybe
<v Speaker 1>they don't immediately turn into smash hits on those consoles,
<v Speaker 1>but people will slowly pick them up over time, and
<v Speaker 1>they will they'll kind of replicate what they did on
<v Speaker 1>other platforms, where people pick up the game and start
<v Speaker 1>getting on that treadmill toward eventually buying all of them.
<v Speaker 1>I really like that way of thinking. It feels sustainable.
<v Speaker 1>It feels like it encourages these publishers to invest in
<v Speaker 1>their games and keep remaking them and keeping them alive
<v Speaker 1>on other platforms, keep porting them making sure that the
<v Speaker 1>next game is building on what it had before while
<v Speaker 1>going in interesting new directions, which I think is the
<v Speaker 1>definition of what happened with Requiem.
<v Speaker 2>So cool to hear.
<v Speaker 3>Right, Yeah, you use the older games, whether you're porting
<v Speaker 3>them or remaking them or whatever, to build the foundational
<v Speaker 3>tech that you can then use for the newest version
<v Speaker 3>of the game. Also too, based on the first story
<v Speaker 3>we talked about, the switch is now the most traditional
<v Speaker 3>of the gaming right. Sure, so there's an entire audience
<v Speaker 3>of people who just want to fucking play video games
<v Speaker 3>and not have to worry about the PCs or you
<v Speaker 3>know all that shit. They just want to pick up
<v Speaker 3>their console and play. If you can get your games
<v Speaker 3>in front of them, you may just create a brand
<v Speaker 3>new based audience base on Switch to a loan because
<v Speaker 3>they're the most they're the older gamers who just want
<v Speaker 3>to press play and go right.
<v Speaker 2>So that's a good point.
<v Speaker 1>Like, yeah, even like the PlayStation, pick that thing up
<v Speaker 1>and you could use it to be watching all kinds
<v Speaker 1>of video content and stuff like that, and it's like,
<v Speaker 1>now the switch, pick that thing up.
<v Speaker 2>You know what you're doing. You're playing a game, all right.
<v Speaker 1>Capcom has moved up the release date for Pragmata by
<v Speaker 1>a week. This is from Andy Robinson at VGC, but
<v Speaker 1>those are the details. It went from April twenty fourth
<v Speaker 1>to April seventeenth. That is exciting because that game looks
<v Speaker 1>real good. Every time I've played it, I've really enjoyed it,
<v Speaker 1>and this shouts that they're confident about it, right Oh.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, definitely shouts some sort of huts like, oh yeah,
<v Speaker 3>we know what we have here the demo. The demo
<v Speaker 3>impressions have been great. We don't have to wait any
<v Speaker 3>longer than we need to. Let's get this shit out
<v Speaker 3>and rake it in. I think this is another It's
<v Speaker 3>I think it's shafing up to be another Capcom hit,
<v Speaker 3>but a new IP hit, which is humongous for them.
<v Speaker 3>I am everything I see about this game. I want
<v Speaker 3>to play it more. I'm very excited.
<v Speaker 4>I tell you what.
<v Speaker 1>The Capcom's you know, recent role makes me want to
<v Speaker 1>go back and play some more Exo Primal where I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>I bet that game is actually even better than I
<v Speaker 1>remember enjoying it.
<v Speaker 2>I bet if there's even more to it, and I
<v Speaker 2>gave it credit for it at the time.
<v Speaker 1>That is so that's happening April seventeenth, basically five weeks
<v Speaker 1>from now. We are, you know, a little bit over
<v Speaker 1>a month from seeing that game out in the wild,
<v Speaker 1>and that's that's very cool. Finally, there are no plans
<v Speaker 1>for a Mega Man Legends collection, but it's possible.
<v Speaker 2>I did see this.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, that's Sean you okay, Bud. So yeah. Basically they
<v Speaker 4>were asked, was it in an interview?
<v Speaker 1>Let's see here a Zoomi shared his thoughts on a
<v Speaker 1>Mega Man Legends collection in a recent interview with RPG site.
<v Speaker 4>He said at this time, there are no plans.
<v Speaker 1>To do so at this time, but he does go
<v Speaker 1>on to say, however, as mentioned in a prior response,
<v Speaker 1>when we consider new collection projects in the future, a
<v Speaker 1>Mega Man Legends collection would also be one of the
<v Speaker 1>possible candidates.
<v Speaker 2>So it's not.
<v Speaker 1>Happening now, but it sounds like it's on their list
<v Speaker 1>of games series to give the treatment that they've given
<v Speaker 1>to the original Mega Man franchise and Mega Man X
<v Speaker 1>and Battle Network and now what is it, stard Legends,
<v Speaker 1>whatever it.
<v Speaker 4>Is, Stardu Valley, Mega Man. It's a different game.
<v Speaker 1>No Star Force that's coming out, okay, right, So like
<v Speaker 1>they keep doing it with all those other ones. Doesn't
<v Speaker 1>seem like they are they have any interest in stopping
<v Speaker 1>so sewn. Do you think they'll eventually get around to it?
<v Speaker 5>You know that scene from The Fresh Prince of bel
<v Speaker 5>Air where he looks at Uncle Phil.
<v Speaker 4>He's like, man, yes, that's Mega Why don't they want me?
<v Speaker 2>Listen to me?
<v Speaker 4>Listen to me.
<v Speaker 3>Just because there's no Legends action doesn't mean there's no
<v Speaker 3>thirty two bit collection that has Dino Crisis and Mega
<v Speaker 3>Man Legends and a couple of other capcom PS one
<v Speaker 3>games that you could throw in there too. Just because
<v Speaker 3>he says there's no Legends collection doesn't mean it's not
<v Speaker 3>going to be included in something.
<v Speaker 4>Jason. That's why I like you.
<v Speaker 5>You're a dreamer. Man. This is freaking weird. That's why
<v Speaker 5>I put it on there, Like, come.
<v Speaker 4>On, they did.
<v Speaker 5>They're doing literally everything else now as Star Wars it's
<v Speaker 5>the most difficult to get hold of. Nowadays, it would
<v Speaker 5>make no light collection.
<v Speaker 4>I don't want no Legens collection unless we get the
<v Speaker 4>prototype for three. That's what they're waiting for.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, man, you start talking about a collection of PS
<v Speaker 1>one capcom games, and my brain immediately went to the
<v Speaker 1>PS one Namco Museum Collection games. They have those awesome
<v Speaker 1>like three D museum spaces you can explore. If Capcom
<v Speaker 1>did that for their PS one games in like a
<v Speaker 1>long series of releases, like here's five games and here's
<v Speaker 1>another five games, that would be the greatest thing that
<v Speaker 1>has ever happened in the history.
<v Speaker 2>Of the world. I would love the rule. That would rule.
<v Speaker 1>All right, I should play Mega Man Legends. That does
<v Speaker 1>it for the headlines, everybody. We're gonna get over to
<v Speaker 1>the poll question from yesterday. Let's take a look here.
<v Speaker 1>It was the Crimson Desert one right, where are you
<v Speaker 1>at with Crimson Desert? And we refresh one more time.
<v Speaker 1>I'm getting it. I need to see more of it,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what that is and not for me,
<v Speaker 1>And the number one response was I need to see
<v Speaker 1>more of it. Fourteen percent said they are just getting it,
<v Speaker 1>twenty six percent said I don't know what that is,
<v Speaker 1>and nineteen percent said not for me.
<v Speaker 4>So yeah, most people were like, hey, I need to
<v Speaker 4>see what those reviews are.
<v Speaker 1>I will say, early on when this poll was happening,
<v Speaker 1>when there were still quite a few respondents, I'm getting it,
<v Speaker 1>had quite a few had a bigger share of the
<v Speaker 1>pie here. It was like something closer to like twenty percent.
<v Speaker 1>So I wonder if, like the word around this game
<v Speaker 1>is already beginning to sour about people being like, look,
<v Speaker 1>just I know you're excited from the really cool lo contrailers,
<v Speaker 1>here's some reason to be concerned. It feels like that
<v Speaker 1>might be getting out into that community a little bit.
<v Speaker 1>Have you been keeping track of this Crimson Desert game
<v Speaker 1>at all?
<v Speaker 3>Played it at SGF last year, found it to be
<v Speaker 3>I found it to not be a good demo, but
<v Speaker 3>not because of the game, because of where they threw
<v Speaker 3>us into the game. I felt think it was too
<v Speaker 3>far ahead. It wasn't It wasn't handholdy enough for a
<v Speaker 3>demo as it should be. It beat my ass basically,
<v Speaker 3>and I'm bitter about it. I'm just bitter. But no,
<v Speaker 3>I think it's gonna be good.
<v Speaker 2>I really do.
<v Speaker 3>I think they've been working on this for a long time.
<v Speaker 3>I think they have the right approach. I think what
<v Speaker 3>is there will appeal to a certain type of sicco.
<v Speaker 3>Whether it has more universal appeal remains to be seen,
<v Speaker 3>but I do think it has some legs. I am
<v Speaker 3>also in this need to see more of a camp,
<v Speaker 3>but I think it could be good.
<v Speaker 1>We'll find out soon that game's coming out later this month, right,
<v Speaker 1>so yeah, people will probably have plenty to say on
<v Speaker 1>launch day. In the meantime, we are gonna get to
<v Speaker 1>the Bomb twelve here in a second to wrap up,
<v Speaker 1>but we should take care of all of our other
<v Speaker 1>business first. Jason Finelli, why don't you tell people where
<v Speaker 1>the can find you on the internet what you have
<v Speaker 1>going on?
<v Speaker 2>All that good stuff.
<v Speaker 3>Jasonfidelli dot com, Blue Sky, big Man Fidelli on Instagram
<v Speaker 3>are the two most frequent social media places I go to,
<v Speaker 3>so follow me there for bullshit. The most recent game
<v Speaker 3>of Former Magazine finally hit your digital.
<v Speaker 4>Archive.
<v Speaker 3>I guess it's the word with the physical one coming out.
<v Speaker 3>I am in there three times. One is a blurb
<v Speaker 3>of my High on Life two review and including the
<v Speaker 3>review section. The second one is when I sat down
<v Speaker 3>with the lovely Mila Djovovich at the Game Awards to
<v Speaker 3>talk about her time in Hitman, as well as her
<v Speaker 3>and her husband being ahead of the curve. As far
<v Speaker 3>as video game adaptations to movies, we're concerned with the
<v Speaker 3>Resident Evil series, and then finally, the big one six
<v Speaker 3>page feature. Back at the Game Awards, I was given
<v Speaker 3>the unique opportunity to shadow one of the Game of
<v Speaker 3>the Year candidates. I had breakfast with them in the morning.
<v Speaker 3>I saw them just before they went into the red carpet,
<v Speaker 3>and then I saw them afterward, and we chronicled their day.
<v Speaker 3>And I started with confidence and anxiety and hope and
<v Speaker 3>ended unfortunately in heartbreak because they went over three and
<v Speaker 3>didn't win a single award. So go read me hanging
<v Speaker 3>out with Warhorse Studio in the most recent edition of
<v Speaker 3>the magazine. Very very cool experience.
<v Speaker 4>There.
<v Speaker 3>Also, I reviewed WWE two K twenty six for Restart.
<v Speaker 3>How do you feel about it yesterday?
<v Speaker 4>Listen to me.
<v Speaker 3>The progression in that game is fucking trash. There is
<v Speaker 3>no reason. There's no reason. I understand that level of
<v Speaker 3>progression for the paid DLC right, the paid premium tier
<v Speaker 3>with the extra wrestlers that you're advertising as DLC passes,
<v Speaker 3>that makes perfect sense. Do not hide characters that you
<v Speaker 3>are saying are on the base roster behind a free tier.
<v Speaker 3>When your progression is glasifully slow and.
<v Speaker 1>It's spread all over the place, it's like it's all
<v Speaker 1>these different mo you have to play too.
<v Speaker 4>I'm like all these things crazy. I saw the post.
<v Speaker 4>They were at level forty.
<v Speaker 3>They unlocked all the tiers, they had played My Rise
<v Speaker 3>two and a half times, They did the entire first
<v Speaker 3>section of the island, They played fifty random matches.
<v Speaker 4>What the fuck are we doing here?
<v Speaker 3>And and the worst part is you got rid of
<v Speaker 3>the accelerator so that free you can't even skip the
<v Speaker 3>free tier. And then you're some of the names that
<v Speaker 3>are on that tier right, you cannot plays them unless
<v Speaker 3>you unlock them. As far as I understand, Andre the Giant,
<v Speaker 3>the British Pool Dog, fucking bray Wyatt. Yeah, bray Wyatt
<v Speaker 3>is on there, one of my favorite wrestlers in the
<v Speaker 3>modern age. I missed that man every day whenever I'm
<v Speaker 3>watching WWE and he's not there. Why is he so
<v Speaker 3>far back into that It fucking kills me? Because what
<v Speaker 3>sucks is I enjoyed the rest of the game four
<v Speaker 3>to five stars. The control schemes a little confusing. I
<v Speaker 3>love the island, I love the wrestling RPG.
<v Speaker 4>That's fun.
<v Speaker 3>What's the fun in the island? Because I read that,
<v Speaker 3>I couldn't under like when you are doing that, what
<v Speaker 3>are you enjoying.
<v Speaker 4>It's it's just it's a basic RPGA.
<v Speaker 3>You're building up your wrestler, you're leveling up your two
<v Speaker 3>missions and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 4>Silly fun.
<v Speaker 3>It's not gonna take the place of any of my
<v Speaker 3>favorite RPGs of all time. It's just goofy shit, which
<v Speaker 3>I like a little bit of goofy. Some of the
<v Speaker 3>voice acting in The Island is some of the weirdest
<v Speaker 3>voice acting I've ever heard.
<v Speaker 4>But it's funny.
<v Speaker 3>Wrestling is not supposed to take itself seriously. It's I
<v Speaker 3>say this with all the love in the world professional wrestling.
<v Speaker 3>You are not a real sport. You are athletic theater.
<v Speaker 3>You need to lean into that.
<v Speaker 4>That's what you are.
<v Speaker 3>You are not the same as the UFC, as much
<v Speaker 3>as t KO wants you to be. You are not
<v Speaker 3>the same as the NFL, in the NBA.
<v Speaker 2>NBA UK.
<v Speaker 1>It's it's one of the shames those those games are
<v Speaker 1>like colliding so much. It's just because they need to
<v Speaker 1>go in separate lanes so they can kind of play
<v Speaker 1>to their strengths.
<v Speaker 4>The wrestling is fine.
<v Speaker 3>I like the control schemes that can get a little confusing,
<v Speaker 3>especially with some of the new modes where you have
<v Speaker 3>to like drag them to the ropes and flip them over.
<v Speaker 3>I find dragging them or carrying them to be a
<v Speaker 3>little awkward in the current control scheme, but.
<v Speaker 4>The modes are cool.
<v Speaker 3>The sheer amount of match types they give you is impressive.
<v Speaker 3>The Creator Wrestler is one of the most in depth
<v Speaker 3>creation suites I have ever seen. That Shit's awesome, but
<v Speaker 3>like it's all the dumb, goofy shit they do around
<v Speaker 3>it that doesn't need to be there and is only
<v Speaker 3>there for one reason.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yep, just to extract as much as possible. It's crazy,
<v Speaker 1>all right. Uh, let's see what else is happening on
<v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb. We should talk about that. So today is
<v Speaker 1>pretty busy. Pretty soon here, we're gonna get set up
<v Speaker 1>for a multiplayer stream of Pokemon Pacopia. I think me,
<v Speaker 1>Will and Sean are gonna hang out and play. I'm sorry,
<v Speaker 1>hed Sek, but me Will and good Chuck are gonna
<v Speaker 1>be playing all the Sean, if you want to hang out,
<v Speaker 1>feel free.
<v Speaker 2>Uh, and we're gonna check that out.
<v Speaker 1>I've been playing enough to like unlock a multiplayer I'm
<v Speaker 1>I feel myself being pulled into this game quite a
<v Speaker 1>bit after that, we'll have a upf where we're playing Marathon,
<v Speaker 1>and then after that Mike is gonna be starting Hopia
<v Speaker 1>fresh from the beginning and kind of really taking his
<v Speaker 1>time in there and showing what that experience is like.
<v Speaker 1>So that'll be happening later this evening, busy Friday, but
<v Speaker 1>you should hang out with us.
<v Speaker 2>It's been really good. It's been a good week.
<v Speaker 1>We had a new episode of Marrying Me Tomodachi, best
<v Speaker 1>episode yet, new episode, the final episode of the season
<v Speaker 1>for Virtuoso's Blake Club season. That was an all timer.
<v Speaker 1>You go watch the whole season, but you want to
<v Speaker 1>really build.
<v Speaker 2>Up to that moment. It's some lot of very funny
<v Speaker 2>stuff happened.
<v Speaker 4>All right.
<v Speaker 1>So with all that out of the way, I'll be back,
<v Speaker 1>or I will be back with this show next Thursday,
<v Speaker 1>because I'm going to be out Monday and Wednesday, but
<v Speaker 1>that does not mean the show won't be back.
<v Speaker 2>I've talked to Mike.
<v Speaker 1>Mike's gonna run the show on Monday and Wednesday, everybody,
<v Speaker 1>So well, we should have more Game US mornings next week,
<v Speaker 1>right right as you guys come back on Monday in
<v Speaker 1>the mornings.
<v Speaker 3>That's cool, Yes, in the meantime, Excuse me, sir, It's
<v Speaker 3>Friday Friday, so it's time to wrap up the week.
<v Speaker 2>Everybody with the bomb twelve. Let's do this.
<v Speaker 1>These are the twelve games that really matter to people
<v Speaker 1>who are really playing video games. Let's get at it
<v Speaker 1>with Number twelve Esoteric EBB, which is another one of
<v Speaker 1>these higher rated games.
<v Speaker 2>From the year.
<v Speaker 1>So far, it's doing very well through critic reviews. It's
<v Speaker 1>like a tabletop version of the Disco, more tabletop focused
<v Speaker 1>idea of the Disco Elysium combat and world, but maybe
<v Speaker 1>with a little bit more color and charm. I have
<v Speaker 1>not played it, but I've seen it do very well
<v Speaker 1>and I'm kind of interested to see how it works.
<v Speaker 1>Number eleven is Mini Shoot Adventures. Now that that's on
<v Speaker 1>Switch and I think it was on Game Pass as well,
<v Speaker 1>I think a lot of people are checking that out.
<v Speaker 1>Number ten is Neo three. Number nine Pokemon Fire Red
<v Speaker 1>and Leaf Green. Number eight is Arc Raiders. Number seven
<v Speaker 1>Slay the Spire Too out in early access.
<v Speaker 3>That game had a ton of people playing on Steam,
<v Speaker 3>so I wouldn't be surprised to see that like staying
<v Speaker 3>at this point or higher on the chart next week.
<v Speaker 1>Number six is Overwatch, number five World of Warcraft Midnight.
<v Speaker 1>Number four is Pokemon Pacopia. Number three is Mugenics. Number
<v Speaker 1>two is Marathon, and number one, after cracking the chart
<v Speaker 1>last week with just like barely half a day of
<v Speaker 1>people being able to play it.
<v Speaker 2>Is Resident Evil Requiem number one. There you go, all right, that's.
<v Speaker 4>The Bomb twelve.
<v Speaker 3>We'll get that updated on giant bomb dot com and
<v Speaker 3>we'll get an updated with a new link to a
<v Speaker 3>new form for a new Bomb twelve that will wrap
<v Speaker 3>up next week with So if you want to have
<v Speaker 3>your say, if you want to get your game in there,
<v Speaker 3>get your shit in, as they say, go to giant
<v Speaker 3>bomb dot com, scroll down there, find that form link
<v Speaker 3>and submit your game.
<v Speaker 4>All right, I think we have wrap this show up.
<v Speaker 1>Jason Fanelli, thank you so much for hanging out with
<v Speaker 1>me today and talking about video games.
<v Speaker 2>Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>It is always an honor my friend. Thank you for
<v Speaker 3>the opportunity and I look forward to the next one.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for watching and listening. You are the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one.
<v Speaker 2>Take care of yourself and goodbye.
