knock them out of the park, and this one's no different. Ringside John
joins the pod and brother he does not hold back. The incarnation of Mattel
retros and HBK Bone Crunching Buddy for the WTF, and some fun Q and
A, including a classic segment where Matt Brosky the Cardona tries to name like
seven or eight or ten baseball players. That's why, that's good stuff.

segment to have a very special interview, an interview we've been wanting to do
since day one, an interview with a man sitting at this dining room table.
So the producer smart Mark Mark, we do an interview you. It
all started one night You got nineteen three. Yeah, at Christmas ninety eight,
when that nightro Ring came. We know that now. But we have
a very special interview with the the other co hosts of the Major Pod today
and that is John from Ringside Collectibles. John Say, Hello, John,
Hey, everybody, it's an honor to be a guest on the major Wrestling
figure podcast. I'm we've been hanging out here. We're drinking beers. I
brought you the best beer on planet Earth. The beer that you was incredible.
I kind of disagree with think John bought the best beer up on Earth.
The bud light line. Can't go wrong with the b l L horrible.
So we've been wanting to do this interview for a long long time.
In full disclosure, we're not really interviews, but I think we have a
lot of questions that we I'm pretty good. Sucks, but I can do
it because you just have to listen this guy. Sometimes we do the guys
next stage. I'm firing away and he's like, that's because he doesn't like
to listen something. Sometimes I'm doing all the work and you're like not doing
it. I thought exactly. He likes it to be about him, but
it's not. He's like, turn any John. We've been a long time.
I think, did you have anyone signals to them behind your back?
Can I have them go help yourself? Anyway? John, We've known any
a long time now, and uh, I think we have a pretty good
understanding of your backstory, but like in full detail, we don't so I
think, you know, it's very interesting and uh a grat I mean,
people see rings at what it is now, and it's this epic company that
you know, kind of has a stranglehold on the industry, but had very
grass roots beginnings. Right, So let's take us back. How did this
all come about? Absolutely? It started back when I was twelve years old
in my parents' basement. I was doing I was a huge collector, and
I was doing a lot of buying and selling on the AOL wrestling figure message
boards. Really and what until what year is this? This was the early
to mid nineties, so it was around like ninety two ninety three is when
I first got into collecting and I was doing a lot of buy and selling
on the message boards. Did that break? And I actually started my collecting
with the Hasbro line? Okay? And I did you buy all Jans as
a kid? You know what? I didn't even know the l jns existed
when I started collecting the hasbrog Yeah, your dad was just a you're not
much older than us, John, No. But but I think when I
got into it, the Hasbro line was going full steam. Okay, So
that's kind of what got me in. Yeah, like, I always remember
l Jan's in my life, even going to the store and getting them ever
since I was a baby. No, I think you were a fan earlier
than I was. Okay, maybe that's it. Yeah, so yeah,
so I was a huge Hasbro collector. And then when Hasbro lost the license,
they started blowing out all these toys of KB for three for ten dollars,
legendary, Yeah fronds that sale multiple times in here, Like I feel
like, what had to be nationwide, right, I don't know if it
was nationwide at that time. I know, I believe it's summer ninety five
and you could just go and it'd be bins and I'll be honest, at
the time, I didn't appreciate it because I already had everybody too, and
I was getting guys like customize or like I would just yeah, you took
it for granted. So back then I was on the message boards. I
was on a lot of the internet boards, and I saw some of these
Hasbros Selling for ten twenty thirty forty fifty dollars apiece time. At that time,
the cab had for three for ten dollars. So I literally, man,
I literally had my dad drive me to every cab that we could find
on Long Island that had these, and I bought a ton of these hasbros.
And I was I was lucky at the time that my dad supported me
in this, and then he let me he let me use my quote barmits
for money. Oh my god. And I had a decent amount of figures
and then I started selling them. People had to mail me money orders.
There was no seven eleven moneyers. Yeah, there was no eBay, there
was no PayPal. It was very archaic, like people are literally mailing me
money orders and that was the only way to do it. Wow. And
it that's kind of how the whole business started. And then you realized there's
something to almost flipping it just basic fig product. It's just there was so
much because I did a lot of buying on the boards also, and there
was just so much surplus of these three for ten dollars figures all over the
place. And I said, Okay, everyone in the message boards want disease,
let's let's you know, like some money. Yeah. Originally it was
just to pay for my figures. Like I didn't even think of it as
a business really, And it just kind of grew from there and then Jack's
Pacific got the license right after Hasbro. And at that point I had a
decent customer base and I met I met up with Jacks because how old.
I'm about twelve or thirteen years old, So this is what So this is
what happened. So I said, I had this good customer base, and
obviously I want the Jacks figures to start selling to them. Also, like
what I'm seeing my head, Yeah, this is like now you could be
on like Shark tak Absolutely why did we not think of that? But like
that's what this is, like the vision. But and to me, I
think part of it also is when you're that young, like you're you're fearless.
Basically you don't think of you. You don't think like, oh what
am I? This is crazy? You know. Like so I Jacks was
going to show off the new line at the New York Toy Fair and you
have to be eighteen or over to get into the toy Fair. So this
was a problem. So I literally I went with my dad to the toy
Fair and we had to keep going from security guy to security guy till we
found one that didn't care that I was, you know, twelve or thirteen
years old. So that was the first time circle. And then I went
into the New York Toy Fair and I met with Jacks and I got very
lucky at the time that they were a brand new company and their their booth
was probably the size of this table. Wow. And I said, Hey,
I want to sell your toys on the internet. And they're like,
they were so hungry for business because they're a brand new company. They're like,
sure, go nuts if you're if you're gonna pass, it's fine.
And I also got lucky that one of their sales guys kind of took a
liking to me and helped me out. So because the founder of Jackson is
a co founder of l j N. Correct, Yeah, the founder of
Jackson founded l JN basically, and I'd never really dealt with him, you
know, personally, but one of the sales guy that I dealt with also
worked for l JN okay, so he like all, yeah, all of
them kind of it was like basically a three person company at the time,
and they were all like, okay, we're back, and all they had
was the six figures from the Jacks WWF you know, series one, And
when we did our Patreon exclusive the history of series one through three. We
found an old message board where you were the first person to report that these
are coming out. That's true, al nuts, is that we found the
post. Yeah, it's insane. You were the first person to, like,
you think that's spread the word. That's summer ninety six or spring ninety
six. It was probably some time in wave ninety five or ninety six.
Yeah, probably they came out in summer nineties. Probably maybe if Toy Fair
ninety five something like my god, okay, and so how old were you
that? I was around twelve or thirteen? Yeah, in ninety five.
Yeah, so you were just like, you're doing this business and at twelve
or thirteen, like I never even thought of doing anything. It was crazy
because now thinking that back on it, it's crazy because I had you had
to import the toys from China. Here's my other question, how or when
did you decide, Hey, we're going to get these shipped by plane and
not by boat? Was it right away? Oh? That's what's crossing my
mind is like these came out the toys r US from day one. Yeah,
So why did you think it? Like, how come no one even
in twenty nineteen, No, one's thinking that. I'll tell you why,
you have to be a maniac to do that. It's insanely expensive. And
then you have these toys that you're competing with Toys r US and Walmart and
every other store selling them for retail price, and you're adding an insane amount
to the cost of the item. So you you would have to be insane
to do it. And it's work because that's your business model and twenty years
later, but I mean for a normal okay, for my business because we're
so niche and specialized and because that's what we're known for. Now that it's
worked, But for normal retail business it would it would be crazy because you're
compete now, you're meeting with you, Amazon and everybody who's trying to sell
it for next to nothing. I understand, like, okay, so when
Elite sixty nine hits the shelves, you're competing with them, but right now
you're beating them to market by months. Well think about it. I was
like a hardcore collector. I didn't care what it costs. I want it
as soon as possible, so the time is money. That's why I started
doing that from day one, because you know, I thought it was worth
the premium to get it first. And that's kind of what our you know,
our businesses in terms of our first figure shipment that we get, we
charge a premium so the hardcore collectors can get them first, and you know,
it's it's really cater to the most diehard fans that that we have.
So even back then, like things, just what, what's how far ahead
before Series one Superstars on the shelves? Did you have it? I mean,
it would vary, but it would generally be about a month before in
most cases you get them in diet collector's hands. Yeah, because even you
get them. Yeah, matel screwed on those retros. I don't know what's
going on with Mitel right now, but yeah, generally it's about a month
before. So it's it's the bone crunching era things. Yeah, yeah,
spiral and just take off for you or so basically I was in middle school
when I started, and it was running out of my parents' basement and then
it kind of their pants when the cases of figures. Okay, my dad
was my dad was supportive it, but my mom really like was not happy
with all the figure boxes going through the living room. And yeah, she
was not happy with it, but she was, you know, she let
it go, So I was. I was thankful for that. So I
was what kind of volume are we talked about? But I was another thing.
Okay, I was very lucky. You look at jack right now.
Sorry, I was very lucky with the fact. Speaking of Jack, I
was very lucky with the fact that it was Jack's because if it was Mattel
or Hasbro, they would not have wanted to deal with a twelve or thirteen
year old. There's no way they wouldn't let me in the door. Just
as you're talking, I'm thinking about you lucked out in that scenario that Jackson's
company no one's ever heard of, and they like, let this all happen.
But then like the attitude there hits in this boom and you're like the
king of selling. You're like in ninth grade, right, But I mean
a lot of cool timing things definitely lined up for you. But I think
your fate, I saw it your fate. I mean, yeah, we're
big in terms of the collector community, but if you look at the figure,
the WW figure business as a whole, like you know what Walmart does
or what Toys r US did, like that Dwarfs anything that we do,
you know, so yeah, like just the timing and oh yeah, the
timing, I know that you have the product. Yeah, I mean I
from the beginning, I just said, okay, what would I want?
And what I would want is I'd want to have the figures as soon as
possible, and you know I was, I'd be willing to pay a premium
for it. And that's that's what our customers want. So when did this
evolve from like the message website? Right? Obviously, I mean I'm assuming
God out of the basement, so hold on the volume in the basement.
I need to know you're talking about that. What I'm saying one palette is
that we're talking like a palette or are we talking multiple palets? If like
the Bad Boys series came out, you know what, it would depend on
how I felt about the set. If I thought it was a hot set,
it would be a lot. If I thought it wasn't, it would
be less. So it would really depend on and that's kind of still the
way. Yeah, yeah, that's how we have to do it, because
you know, we're catering to the most diehard people. You know, I'll
never forget it. Was the summer of me going into seventh grade. So
that's ninety seven. My parents finally got the Internet. I had my Compact
Presario computer and all night like wasn't Google, I don't even know what it
was, but I was searching for wrestling figures and I found Ringside Collectibles dot
com and there were pictures of tag teams, managers, Superstars series five,
I believe, and I was like, oh my god. Like I thought
like because at that time this was also new. Now you get the pictures
of the figures online like for this like all the time. Yeah, but
then it didn't exist to me. It was it was it was brand new,
so I didn't know, like, there's no way these are real,
Like how do they have these? How were they making the Sultan? How
are they making the head batteries? How do they have these pictures? Yeah,
and it was Ringside Collectibles and I'm like, oh my god. And
but think about it, I'm like a couple of years younger than you.
I'm a little loser tech on the computer. You're selling these things, Well,
this is how different. I even predating that. I have all the
pamphlets from even before those series. I was very impressed. You have all
of our mailing sailor flyers that we used to sell out. Yeah, and
I'd bother my mom and dad to buy these things for me. I would
save everything. I have them all still in the stack. I brought them
to you a couple of years ago. Yeah, we used to the first
one to have is bad Boys, Like a black and white flyer with the
bad boys image is like going crazy. Yeah. I used to send out
like flyers every few months in the mail to our mailing list, and like
that's how we would market it because there was no email marketing. Really back
then. There was no Vision website. It was before a website even.
Yeah. So, but then at one point there was email marketing and that
must have been a big deal. That was later years later, Yeah,
but it was. The website probably came out a few years later and then
ninety ninety two thousand. Yeah, the website was definitely there in ninety seven,
was it not it that's how I found these figures. I mean it
probably existed, but that was he's talking about when the source of the when
the business was mostly websites. Yeah, I mean basically I had a good
run too. From Mania. It was Mania sixteen, seventeen, eighteen nineteen,
where I got a seat in the front row and I held up a
Wrestling Figures dot Com sign and the site would crash every time I did.
It's awesome. Yeah, that is an insane story. That's great. That's
the best market. And if you look on the ww network you can see
it. That's awesome. Yeah. And then by like Mania twenty twenty one,
they figured out that they don't want dot Com signs in the crowd.
Yeah it yeah, yeah, yeah, I never told this story on here.
You used to sign contest, oh you, that's right. We used
to have a contest where if you get a Wrestling Figures dot Com sign,
Yeah, if you bring it Wrestling Figures dot Com sign to a raw or
any any TV taping and get it on and get it on, improve it
and prove it to you, you win a gift certificate. Yes, and
Ryan one, I went to either a SmackDown a Raw at the Coliseum and
I know, for some reason, I just remember the match. It was
like a Edue Christian versus the Hardy Boys Terry Invitational match, but not obviously
the latter one. And I held it up and I like, yeah,
I don't know my mom or I wrote the email saying like, look you
can see it here here and here I got like one hundredgus Yeah, that's
one hundred dollars, and I have I have the like congratulations letter. Yeah,
it was in all that stuff autography John Hell. Yeah, what's with
the John Hell? By the way. Okay, so there's a backstory to
this. So when I first started ringside, I was using my parents' home
address for people to mail me money orders, and then people would start visiting
my parents' house looking for figures because they thought that was like a real store.
Right. Oh, So this happened like two to three times. So
I said, okay, I got a I gotta find some way to get
people to stop visiting my parents house. So I got a you know,
one of those ups store boxes. And then I started using my middle name
on top of that, which is how because I thought, okay, then
really, no one's gonna be able to find out where my parents live.
Yeah, so that's the whole origin for John Holl And then it just kind
of stuck in terms of what I've used is my online name, Yeah,
exactly. And it's wrestling. You have to have a gimmick name, right,
I mean, come on, easier to say exactly. There was an
article. People can look it up. Yeah, yeah, pretty cool that
that was on Huffington Posts. There was an article a few years ago.
Four years ago, I think that we spread that We're like, wait what
and I'm gonna be on Zach's favorite show Toys that made us coming up,
We'll get at that time if you didn't know, he's death staring, So
I guess my question would be like, okay, so Attitude Era is picking
up then like not only that, but the figures are coming out, so
you're not just getting like Superstar Series one, right, And then a couple
of months later another said, the session is coming and coming and coming and
come in. How do you decide? Okay, you know what I'm just
gonna do. I'm gonna turn this little like basement company into Okay, I'm
gonna be full fledged, like I'm going for it. When did you decide
that? So basically I was kind of running it when middle school in high
school, and I had friends helping me, and it was you know,
it was a hobby. I would say, hobby slash business. And then
when I graduate, when I went to college. I had friends helped me
also, and then when I graduated college is when it kind of I said,
okay, I have to go balls the wall, see where this can
go. What year is that? That's two thousand and three. Wow,
Okay, when you went to college the whole thing was to be because I
wasn't. It wasn't full time until two thousand and three. Like you're saying
me, pretty impressed. That's a lot of things, dude, because I'm
thinking, like, there's so many figures I ordered before that, and you're
not fall the I mean I was. It was my life, definitely,
But when something is your life when you're middle school, in high school and
college just the kids, Yeah, so it's like then you have to I
mean, I'm just impressed, is what I thank you think. I thought
you were like this real business and you were a real business, but I
didn't know you were a kid or someone three years older than me. Here's
the question just bopped my mind. Have you ever had to have like any
other job in your whole life or just selling wrestling figures? I did an
internship and I've had his pizza. I did an internship with Disney Pictures marketing,
when I was in college. It's the only other job I ever read
where it was that that was like in the city. That was in Manhattan.
Yeah. But here's the other crazy thing. I went to college in
Boston and my business was running out of my parents' basement and my dad helped
me out, and I had friends helping me out, and that was crazy.
And like on the weekends, I would come back from Boston and like
help get the orders done for the week. And I mean, that makes
sense because at that time we order something, it's not like Amazon Prime where
you get the next day, you know what I mean. Yeah, back
then people were okay if you took like five days or a week to ship,
like it wouldn't matter. Now people freak out if that happens, But
back then it wasn't that unusual. So so what year do you go from
your parents' basement to the first warehouse? Yeah? So the big big moment
is when I graduate college and I have to decide, Okay, do I
need to want to go balls to the wall with this or do something else?
So wait, hold on. When you were in college, you did
like business and stuff because you thought that you would run this business. Well,
yeah, I mean, actually I almost was. I was like just
baiting if I wanted to go to college at all, but my parents kind
of talk me into it and they said they would help me run the business
while I was in college. So yeah, I went for marketing and it'd
actually I kind of I kind of in retrospect, I'm happy I went to
college because I learned a lot about how to run a business, because of
course you have to. Yeah, yeah, smart, Mark Sterling, you
got to go to college. Absolutely, I graduated. Tommy Dreamer thinks we
did, but we did that a couple of dropouts. Yeah. So when
I graduated college, I got a warehouse and an office and that was essentially
the birth of you know what it is today, I would say, And
that was in linn Brook. That was in lin Brook. Yeah, that
was our first word, Like that big moment like that, making that call,
you know what? It was kind of like a natural progression for it,
and it's it really Again, the timing was perfect because in two thousand
and four, I believe, is when Jeremy Padouer took over the Jacks line.
Jeremy, if you're listening, I want to lick your up. So
when Jeremy took over the Jacks line and brought the Classic Superstars line to be
that kind of blew up the collector market. Yeah, because you had all
these classic guys that have never been done. There was no nostalgia in wrestling
figures until that moment. Really. Yeah, And that was the exact moment
that I was kind of growing the business. Fa Yeah, it was figure
face. I had some crazy figure face. The fact that I'm sitting here
right now with you guys is like mind blowing to me, Like that's insane
figure faate. So I know it's pretty cool to sit with smart Mark Star.
Yeah he's here after seeing those cabs on Christmas, I understand. So
like, if if Jeremy didn't launch the Classic Superstars line at that moment,
I don't think my business would be anywhere with that coolness and like hitness of
like collecting, this wouldn't have been you know. I feel like he really
brought the collectors into the ww figure line and that was and getting thing signed,
because you have to remember that was right after the Attitude era, and
like the line really needed that injection of something huge, and Jeremy gave it
that. And before Jeremy, Like WWE never really monetized their legends. No,
Like Jeremy is the Godfamily and now look at all the Legends products.
It's insane that exists. And I Jeremy's responsible for a lot of that.
Like we just talked about in that in the weekly purchases, I bought those
little kids Warrior and Macho Man's. They weren't in the w family before Classic
Superstars. You know what I'm saying. That's true zero zero. Yeah,
So what Jeremy did, it was huge for the wrestling figure business. It
was huge for the wrestling business. It was just incredible, and it really
helped our business take off because it just brought collectors and droves to the law.
So. I don't know if you remember this, but used to be
I think it was you on Instant Messenger as Ringside fifteen. Yeah, so
we I would talk to you a couple of times no way back. Yeah,
I can't remember if I did, because I remember once we got signed.
Yeah this you must knew it was me because I said like, hey,
blah blah blah, I'm getting zo, Like I wanted a little deal
ski on the Rocky figures that were covered and you gave you a little deal.
Can I give you a deals keep good good for the Jack's rocky figure.
That's awesome, smart marketing smart absolutely, Ringside fifteen on a well is
the messenger? Absolutely? Wow. Here's what's sticking out in my mind.
Yeah, when I graduated college, I rented an apartment from my mom for
five hundred dollars a month with three other guys, and I remember freaking the
peep out about the money I was spending. You just said when I graduated
college, I got a warehouse. That's pretty bad. There's a couple of
more things where I want to touch on Hurricane Sandy. You talk about that
and what happened to ring. I don't think the public really knows like all
that. Yeah, I don't think we publicized it that much. Yeah,
but it's times fast. Yeah yeah, it's nothing left. Well, you
moved from Limbrook to Freeport. Yeah, yeah, just keeps growing. Yeah,
Yeah, you needed a bigger warehouse and yeah. So yeah, and
Hurricane Sandy, we got like four to five feet of water, which was
crazy, and it just you know, destroyed a lot of the packaging and
stuff. So we basically, you know, the the toughest part for us.
Was it took like nine to ten months for the insurance company to pay
anything. So that was really the toughest period of time financially, Yeah,
financially for the company. Yeah. But then you know, once we got
over that, then we had all the what I think what like the wrestling
figs boards went crazy over was all the loose figures we had. Yeah.
We literally had a team of people like clean eating these figures to make sure
they were fine, and we you know, we sanitize them and all that.
Yeah. There Wow, just walking team like the school kids sitting there
like uh liesole wiping down loose figures and then making a bit and like they
would just be like we saw a giant of just Trent bread figures to the
brim, you know, like whatever it was, Mark like just crazy because
a lot of these figures had value loose for sure. And you know what's
crossed my mind right now, I feel like maybe some of the secondary Mattel
value might be due to you guys, you know, like you think so
Card, a lot of that stuff isn't out there. I guess original Mattel
legends on Card anymore because of that, And I'm sure a lot of stock,
you know, I mean we just skipped about five years. There's so
many questions that have in between that, and then we could talk forever double
That's what the people want to know. Like, okay, a couple of
things I want to know, Like so when Jack when you know Jacks is
losing the license, what are you like, Oh my god? Like now
we got deals with matel, I don't know anybody from Mattel, Like how
do you build those relationships? How do you start that? Because with Jack's
you guys had so many awesome exclusives, so you had such a cool relationship
with a unique relationship with Jackson. So were you worried when Jack's lost a
license? Like how far in advance did you know? And like, oh
my god, now I have to deal with Mattel, Who's a big company
who deals with like you know, not saying Jacks isn't, but they deal
with hot wheels, you know, Barbie, They're like, you know,
as legit as possible. What what was it like then? I mean,
we didn't know they were losing license till everyone knew, so, which was
a few years in advance, so we didn't we didn't really know what to
expect and we kind of said, Okay, let's just get the most out
of we can with Jack's in the last few years that we have, and
we actually had a few exclusives with Jack's at the end that ended up not
coming out. Really, can you disclose what those are? One of them
was like an Undertaker three pack and I've seen something. Yeah. One of
them was a Jericho with that Austin with like seven hundred belts that came out.
Yeah, that came out Austin with a bit that was like the tribute
to Stone Cold. I can't believe it. And then we had a Jericho
with his like blue entrance vest from WrestleMania. Huh. Yeah. There's a
few of the coolest things I loved or still love to this day is the
ringside exclusives. I mean we talked about earlier the w W East, so
like, not only did you make like the superstars, you mean guys that
weren't usually in the line. I remember you guys made a val Venus,
right, which is really cool. I mean, I'm sure I can't remember
every exclusive you guys had the TAZ so many coolest things gold So I was
gonna ask which ones are your favorites and and then b I was gonna ask,
like what goes into even you know nowadays, like okay, we want
to do a ringside exclusive. How does that work? How do you decide
what we want? And how do you get that approved? Do they come
to you? Do you go to them? How does that work? Or
is a combination of both? I think well, back in the Jack Stays,
I mean, I think we're different than any other customer that Jack's or
Mattel has because, you know, Target Target buying a figure, it is
not going to say this guy needs this attire from this pay per viewer.
He's got to have he's got to have this paint detail and this and all
the Walmarts and Target in America didn't say, Mattel, can you please make
knockamore in these red pads? Target? You know what? Target? And
Walmart fuck tooth and nail over that n X t RUSSEV Target Target one.
So the good thing about the Jack the Jack Stays were unique because we could
basically pitch something to Jeremy and if he thought it was a halfway decent idea,
he would do it for us. So we like Jeremy is a collector,
and it was he's making the soul he's well and also he's making the
sol he's making he gets he's making the sole decision about what to make.
So we would it basically was up to us in terms of what we wanted,
and we would tell them, Hey, we want Taz in this attire
with this body type, with this head, with this speaking of tas tell
us about this disaster. Okay. So so first we were covered in I
want to hear that first guy you made Valvenus with the Times a Sunday Night
Heat Superstar, because which was amazing was because everybody wants a hammerhead, as
I say, you need everybody for your figure in the gap between Valvenus releases.
Oh my god. So it was like applause, bravo. But then
we didn't really want the Taz and the matching Valvenus tows. Tell us what
happened was that job? Okay? So our first shipment Classic Superstars Ring Cycles
Exclusive Taz. Yeah, the first ship, yes, arrives and it has
a towel around the waist just like a Valvenus figure because the factory in China
just assumed the towel should be packed the same way Valvenus was packed because in
China they don't know which is like ultra bad because with the black single top
and that a dress dress. Right. And I had known from Jeremy previously
that Taz was not happy with his ECW figure. Yeah, and he had
made his opinion known to Jeremy and maybe he can get into more of that
opinion at a later time. What's your reaction when you open up these cases
of having known thousands that you committed to and they all have known how upset
Taz was with Jeremy about the previous figure. I let Jeremy know about it,
and Jeremy was nice enough to have them reproduce it. And what we
did, he said, Okay, the ones that you have, you can't
sell with the towel on it. You have to open them and take the
towel off. So we basically sold them as damage package. And we took
the towel off of each one. Wow. Yeah, there's a little uh
ks on some of them because the towel left stains on the legs. Yeah,
that is true. A lot of all of them though, yeah,
not all of them. Yeah, a lot of the black cloth accessories,
even from Jack's or Mattel For some reason. Mattel has fixed this more recently,
but back in still I still don't even chance. I get so terrified,
Like if I pack away a figure, I wrapped the whatever cloth thing
and like a zip block. Yeah, put it in the zip bloc with
the figure, because I'm so worried about the staining. Up until recent scarred
from my jack's you know, upbringings, it would be a big complaint that
we would get items with black cloth that they have stains. So how much
of that have insanity have you dealt with through the years? But collectors about
carding being damaged car or or you know figure errors that it's obviously on the
distributors. Yeah, you know, part not yours. Like you're not making
these figures in the factory, You're just getting them shipped there. So yeah,
I mean, how much of that goes on? A difficult thing is
when you know something is a mistake is made by the factory and then the
customer's not happy. Yeah, you know, there's nothing, not much we
can do about it because they're all like that I said we talked about before
when we're off their Trevor in his office, Yeah, he has like wait
a say one second, tell us about Trevor cut off, king bro.
We need to know about Trevor. Absolutely, there's a great story about Trevor.
Trevor has a like a raised shelf above his desk and it has all
like the defective figures that customers have sent back over the years. I said's
kind of like sids that you know that, Yeah, in toy story.
So Trevor is an integral part of the company. He definitely is. He
has a lot of stuff, So let's talk about him. Yeah. So
basically, Trevor and I went to the same college and we met. We
were in a class and we weren't we were really friends back then, and
then we I was responsible for bringing Ultimate Warrior to a peer a college whoa
pumped the brakes job it happened. What yep, you brought him? He
did the ringside shoot interview, and he did ring side Fest, the first
ever ring side Fest. Od I've done ringside Fest? Wow? Well it
was the back to Trevor, back to the real star here. So Trevor
didn't have a camera with his real name. Are you gonna that's okay?
That's a real name. So back when Ultimate Warrior I brought him to appear
at my college, and I took a picture of Trevor with Warrior because he
didn't have a camera on him because you know, back in the day kids
cell phones didn't have cameras. So I had the camera. I had the
photo with him, and I got his email address to email in the photo,
and then I really I had a class with him, but we weren't
really like oh four, this is before oh three, because I graduated in
two thousand and three, so it's how to be like wow, two thousand
and two or two thousand and one, okay, so nuts. Yeah.
So then when I was starting up ring you know, ringside at the warehouse
after I graduated, I go to WWE dot com and I see that.
I see Trevor's face on the front page of w W dot com. And
Trevor won the WWE Fantasy Tournament. He was the winner. We need to
buy that. This is figure fight. Also, this is figure Fate.
So Trevor was on the front page of ww dot com and I was like,
oh my god, I know Trevor. We were in college together.
So I emailed him because I email addressed from the Ultimate Warrior photo. Oh
my God. And it turns out he was living in New Jersey and he
was looking for a job and that was Figure Fate. Wow, he's like
right hand man, I mean he I mean, who better to like backbone
rings, who better to figure to predict what is going to sell than somebody
who won the w w E Fantasy. Yeah. So, and he's been
working there ever since, ever since. Yeah, and he's incredible. I
mean really he knows this stuff like he lives, eats, sleep, breathes
like he's the manner of It's like figures but Ringside collectibles absolutely, and he
designs all the special ring Side Collectibles accessories and stuff like that. Correct.
Yeah, I mean we basically a lot of these some of these accessories that
we've done are kind of his baby, and he goes into a lot of
the design work with the factory, and you know, he's also integral in
a lot of our exclusives as well. I think we can jump ahead and
we'll go back track it for a little bit, but the major recipe or
podcast figures and accessories like we did it, Like is that not figure face?
Like we two kids who grew up a being wrestling nerves and turned out
to be wrestlers, but figure fans are who bought from RECYC Collectibles now have
Ringside Collectibles exclusive figures. Was that the first? Alse now edend Christian else
know Aliso is the first exclusive? I think al Snow was the first.
If you want to call it an exclusive. Yeah, it's signed, right.
It was a little sticker that says, it's not like you just saw
signed out Snow. Yeah we we We had him sign a certain amount and
called it, you know, a limited edition that you signed. Yeah,
exactly, just like our heroes, Edgind Christian. That's true. I cannot
wait for all the major marks to uh to buy these figures. I can't
wait till week and can buy them, get them in all collections. We
debuted them a comic con or we're gonna debut them. But this is so
weird doing these things in advance because we're going to debut them. By the
time you're listening, we already did debut them. You know what I'm saying.
But yeah, you explained it every time and everyone understands that. Every
one understands makes sense. That's fine, but weird to you, it's not
weird. It's a dream come true. So John thank you for that,
because that's the more figure face. So thank you, no problem, thank
you guys for the partnership. I'm just another figure. Fate is that I'm
mind blowing that there are two w W superstars that are this hardcore and figure
collective. I mean, I mean often what makes us working. It's very
odd that. Yeah, that's just my glowing of each other. We're like
twenty days apart in age, and like, yeah, a lot of if
you sit in whatever, if you sit and think about it's a real crazy
yeah, because I mean growing up, I could never have imagined that any
w W superstar would care. Is there any you know, crazy ones that
don't care? And we're gonna look up our past orders, like could you
look at like an I don't know, I don't know. I don't know
if I have that far back, I have to check the cardon. So
uh so, like, what's what's going on with the business nowadays? Like,
you know, to finish this off? You know, you guys are
growing and and and all that, and with the MATEL deal and you guys
still keep coming out with different with ringside exclusives and yeah, I don't know,
I guess to finish this off, you know. Yeah, I mean
we just did our first ever Mattel Elite two pack exclusive of the Broode Hardy's
so that was hugeviews. Yeah, mitt All did an incredible jobs. So
we've been working a long time on that, and we have a lot of
big things planned for twenty twenty. So they kind of like quarterly. Can
you count on that like four year or three or year or like it varies,
right, I can't really put my finger on it. And you guys
also have Ringside Fest, which was kind of like your mini comic con.
Every fall we reveal new stuff, which is awesome. You always have ww
superstars there signing. Yeah, I mean we kind of we had done conventions
previously, and we thought, you know, there's not a lot of wrestling
fans a lot of these conventions, so why don't we just do our own
little promotional event. And it kind of just took off from there. And
you know, the first one we have the Ultimate War You're At and that
was four Yeah, and it's just kind of taken off from there and Jack
supported it back in the day and they would show off all the new toys.
And we've been lucky that Mattel has supported it and Sweaty Bill just kind
of free trip to New York. Yeah. Bill loves showing off all the
new toys there and interacting with the fans, and it's it's a fun event
and it's a way for us to kind of meet our customers and our fans
in person because normally we're buying a computer. Yeah, and I don't know
if you guys realize this or even know this. Like you guys are everywhere,
especially online, So when a figure comes out, Ringside Boom puts their
their stamp on it and puts it up everywhere. The majority of the WW
superstars who we talked to, they think Ringside Collectibles makes the figures, you
know what I'm saying. They don't understand that's like a hotel, your social
media presence and stuff like following that they think they're so ahead of the curve,
so on top of things that the WW superstars they think it's Bringsy Collectible
who's making these figures. It's crazy, It's nuts. Social media is it's
a compliment. Like you guys are so on top of everything. You guys
are so synonymous with Mattel and so and with wrestling figures or even like the
YouTube channel that's went up for years and years now, Like there's a lot
of times I have to like reference something like or like an accessorieson my be
I'm like, who did this come with? And I'll have to like use
your YouTube stuff and those figure reviews to like figure it out, or like
oh did this come with this? Whatever? Bring wiet figure and I'm like
organizing my crap and I could figure it out, but using a great reference
tool. And also there's wrestling things even before then. Yeah, yeah,
oh god, wrestling boards. We can talk all day about that. You
a vendor on there. I didn't go as nuts as you point. I
wanted to be a mod like that was one last question. Personal question.
I kind of don't even really know the answer to this because in your office
you kind of have things all over the place, like on display and the
things that you have up. I know you're a big Japanese wrestling fan,
but what do you ques, like, what do you have over the years,
what have you held on to, like what is in your actual personal
collection? I mean I basically have to pick and choose at this point because
otherwise it would just get out of control. So yeah, I mean my
personal collection, I have every Habsborough m oc okay one of each, like
some I have multiples of something I have been going through some of a ringside.
You have like multiples of that Brett Hart with the purple heart that I
need and you still need it multiple it's just min on card, multiple multiples.
How do you tell the difference between the mellow ay and you don't?
It's the same thing, Okay. The only way there's a bred heart meloe.
You don't know if it's in the bag. If it's not in the
bag, it's not the mellow my opinion, there's no way if you're a
loose collector. Nope, nope, nop. So I have one of my
holy girls in my collection, is the elite one. Jeff Hardy held and
inspected this in the office. It's pretty cool. Yeah, So it never
came out. It never came out, and they made a few samples of
them and then they don't. I don't know what happened to the sample the
rest of the samples, but they was gonna warehouse somewhere with the King Harley
Race distribution problems. So did that come into sample case before that series came
to the ringside. No, an ex Mintel employee gave it to me.
BI is just Bill set. Those head bones are punched his windows. Bill
would never give that to me. No, never, but he's mad that
you disclosed that. And I hope he has one that I wanted so barely
had the retro zach reda prototype? Did an he give it to you?
Listen to this, John Cena, Mister John Cena went to Comic Con last
year, went to the Mitel booth special for me to request that I get
that prototype. They said, of course, mister Sina, we'll give it
to him. They never did what Bill, I don't know if it was
Bill, Bill, I don't know what next show. I just want to
say Bill led to Sina hustle loyalty collect. One of my other holy grails
is The Family Divided Jack Specific, which is a huge box set of all
the McMahon's, including Linda, that was never released. It has uh triple
h and yeah, it's it's incredible. It's you have what I would describe
as jaw dropping autographed min on card Hasbro's in his office right. I have
undertakers like just stuff like you wouldn't believe. That's one of my favorite pieces.
I've a signed Owen and Go It's so cool. Yeah, that King
of Hearts and he signed in the King of Heart States didn't do that back.
Yeah, certain for you to have those, it's like crazy, you
know now, Yeah, but not people are obviously deceased and whatever. But
unbelievable. Yeah. I have a bunch of Hasbro signed That was I was
big into getting the Hasbro signed in the nineties. So how how far off
do you think you are of like completing that. I'm very far off really.
Yeah. You had a lot of Green Cards signed, a Green Cards
signed. Yeah, but I oh my god. Do you take one of
each shrinks exclusive for like a sentimental I do. I think I have one
of each ring side exclusive, and sometimes I like in terms of like the
Elite line, I'll take certain guys that I want to have in my collection.
It's just it just I have to pick and choose because it otherwise they
just take up too much room. And I think we're all at that point
except Bro has no filter. But wow, it's crazy. I mean you
you are literally living the dream, just a fan who collected wrestling figures,
and you revolutionize the figure business. Whether you want to admit it or not.
You know, I think those way beyond action figures, it's like the
American dream type stuff. Appreciate way beyond, but like you, you literally
changed the figure business. I mean, and there's been so many companies that
have tried to compete with Ringside and they they all cool gifts. They're dead.
You killed. I haven't even thought about it, right right, remember
all cool gifts. And they tried creeping up, you know, they tried
to attack them behind you turned around, you gave them the double bill figure
of the sunner, you know, because they're done, you know, like
you are the number one. There's no yeah, I mean there's no.
And the thing is, if there's a number two, it's like see you
later. It's like all the way down They're like, you guys are killing
absolutely. I mean it's it's a tough business, you know it really,
it really is. And this is not family, all right. Thank you

H. I'm gonna pick Zach Ryder. I hate that figure, Okay,
Well, I mean, am I in love with the actual like decko of
it? Absolutely not? Why was it not bearded? Modern day? Everyone's
modern day? I guess Bray and Danny Bryant are in the same brown as
yours. I would have design it. I would have done either bearded trunks,
modern day or one legged ecw woo woo. I would have just went
straight up WrestleMania, a icy title when you know what, guys, beggars
can't be choosers, of course, But I'm just saying, if it was
me, there was reason, based on television time, I deserved a retro.
But I'm saying this out loud. You Bray and Danny Ryan are the
only guys who are modern day guys that had like weird older, older versions
of yourself come out. It's a weird category. I have. Mine come
out was literally a dream come true. You're just trying to rub it rub
it in and I'm never going to get one. Right now? Did you
design an entire segment to just remind me that I'm never going to get a
retro? Maself? So my number three is Zach Ryder gold Dust. I
think that's to be on my list. This is my four removable wig.
Don't have to use my vendoms, Goldust, don't have to use my misapperfect
yellow. Finally, after all these years, Uh, they're so plain.
But I love jy D and Chic. I have to say my five and
you're gonna think I'm because I am not a current collector. But I think
the Roman reigns with the Jake. The snake punch is to me so rare.
That to me is has Bro. That's retro. That's I mean,
now it's pointless to say this, but like it's weird that I understand he
was his own unique mold. But why more guys didn't have that action feature
is a little kobookish. I don't know. So that's my five. I

their sizes of them is cool, but they're they're all so ugly and especially
sewn its way too small. I got you can't wrestle with the bit like
big and these these big they're there. I was the less than half the
size of a talk. I want to all these peg warmers because but they're
not obviously they're too big to go on pegs. But they were shelf warmers
back back in that ison era. I don't remember. Oh, brother,
these are just always there, always now, to be fair, they improved
after series two, got a little better. Yeah. Oh, anyway,
so I was saying, this is close to home because you currently own how
many of these? One of each? Guy? Unreal? And where are
they upstairs? And there by the way, folks. Oh baby, it's
been a it's been a busy couple of months. Honestly, since WrestleMania.
We've been booked on every single WW event and we have not been home a
lot. But and I complained an awful lot on here when I was doing
my home improvements and stuff, and my house was a little wreck, nothing
in comparison to what's going on. Right now here, and the cat Cat
Daddy's dead, his playroom is porderline destroyed. Uh needs weeks and weeks organizing.
Let's not even get into the garage. And then and he showed me
that I'm already blown away. And then before he left for the show,
before he peeked open the garage door, and I went, oh my god,
Oh my god, I don't know what you're gonna do. Yeah,
So I have one of each guy. They have like nice heads. The
heads look pretty good. The Austin is a little Kobookiah goofy goofy heads.
The Sewan he's got the Zebra Taker's pretty crappy. These are terrible, dude,
I think what dude loves the best one and led two thousand. The
later Austin's are kind of cool. So I had like the acid washed jeans
and so like. I had these as a kid, sold and obviously in
classic Mat Cordona style, Sam Roberts would love this. I rebought them recently,
I can confess to when I was a kid, I had every single
one of these so and probably sold them in nine when the license in got
rhy of them. So I bought these. God, that's embarrassing to say
I bought the min in box. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect
and want like some kids played with one. But I forgot to realize,
like these, you're able to test these out in the stores. So a
lot of my bone crunchings was broke because I'm sure they were like broken in
the stores from people kids just touching them all the time. I'm telling you,
my recollection of these are just sitting on shelves because they were not desirable.
They looked stupid and Kane, yeah led two thousand, but they were
just they looked so ugly they just sat there. It's like because he went
I guess in that era, Jack's was a big against like uh just like
naked Chess. So like Sean has like a vest and later Rock has a
vest. Yes everyone has a vet, but Sean definitely a crap figure.
If Jack's just made regular but Tanka style, buddies would be just gushing over
these, and Sean had already left it be you know that too. So
there was a lot of and now I get it because you know, you
learn later that w W was paying them a lot of money just to stick
around, but he wasn't on television, so he had a lot of merchandise,
especially Jack's merchandise that whole time he was out. I love hate these
figures, like I said, I have them all, but like I could
see if you think of like classic Taca buddies, like oh, you have
the Jacks buddies, you had the bone crunching buddies, and then you show
them they'd be like what the like Yeah no thanks? So uh, congratulations

When it comes to later ECW series, how common was it to have old
packaging? I got a Series three RBD on a Series one card and found
a yellow shirt Dreamer on a yellow card. I'm so I'm basically using this
to promote our ACW stuff. He sent me this question, I said,
can you listen to our ECW episode? We answered all this then Chris here
knows, but this is covered on our ACW episode. A commistake plus sake,
