Tamagotchisaid, sometimes an item is so hot you can't even get your hands on one a Yoshi bobblehead, and then the next minute they can get him for like a pack of gum. Kirk Cousins. I know Atlanta's picking up part of it, but one point three million dollars, that's so we live a steal of a deal. Is it a crazy to think that one minute someone could be thirty forty fifty million dollar quarterback and the next minute a team's picking up this dude for one point three Well, here's the interesting part of the story, and Danny g chime in, this is your team. I want to know your thoughts and Fox Sports Radio Nation want to hear from you, Dan Byer, I will seem everybody you know you don't want to know my mom's thoughts. She's a raider, saying she called me today absolutely eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox to hit us up. These two guys are cut from the same cloth. I don't know if that's like a flannel an LLL bean sort of material, I don't know, but they're sort of like very similar in their in their ways, right, probably super cuts kind of guys or sports clips wherever they go, very here saying Fernanda Mendoza shops at Cole's as well. Yeah, Like, I don't know, very wholesome in their ways and their demeanor. I can't think of a better mentor Foremandoza than a cousin's if he's willing to accept that role, and I think he is. But here's the tricky part, right, So they saying both you say the quarterback room and Vegas is going to a Sunday Easter Mass together. Yeah, I think there's gonna be a very kind quarterback room going on here because they're two very kind people, but darnets and naw shucks, that doesn't do that. They're not competitive though, right, So Jimmy chillickers, what do you think is gonna happen? If Mendoza was solid at Pro Day, right, fifty three for fifty six or something like that, they look good, real invested, and the receivers knowing the routes. He was calling the routes and making sure everybody knew what was going on. True leadership. I think I even heard Collins say, like very Peyton Manning like in his leadership, like what if he's playing great? Then what happens with Cousins?

She goes, well, did Danny, because my mom anytime this Raider stuff, my Mom's like, what is your what does Danny think? Well? What if Mendoza kills? Is what I'm saying. Point is, he's not gonna play. If you're a Raiders fan and you're licking your chops at the idea of Fernando Mendoza has this delayed your excitement by one year? Is there the sentiment that Cousins is your QB for a year and now Mendoza becomes a mentee or is there a part of it that's like, nah, he'll play.

Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think there's any chance that Mendoza does not get on the field in the first year, even if Cousins is looking good. And then the other argument, and I heard your boy Jason McIntyre, who Covino plays basketball against every weekend, that's right, And they were arguing over how does it go. Colin said I would start, of course Cousins, and then I would let him mentor the young guy, and Jason said, no, there's no better way to learn except being on the field. So they are arguing in which order do you go? But I think Clint Kubiak from the signs and the comments he's made, he wants a veteran first, yes, and he wants Mendoza on the sideline to learn the speed.

It's just I don't think he's gonna like start opening day, but I think he's gonna, or should I say, Cousin is gonna have a shorter leash if he continues to kill so Again. Even though they're very friendly guys, it seems like a perfect match, there's still that competitive nature in both of these dudes. They both want to play. They both want to start. Mendoza's already playing great from what we're seeing. That's not in game play though I'm here and he's near perfect rich so far. Why would you even care what real Colin says when you could ask Ai Colin. I mean, that's that's what I like to do. You want to ask a Colin only if you go, Hey, God.

Speaker 1: There you go, even if you're worried about the future, you got to protect his feelings and his confidence and everything else. Cousin's been there, done that. You know. If Cousins is struggling and everyone's cheering for Fernando, I mean yeah, on the flip side of it, that's a nightmare. If Mendoza is struggling and everyone's like throwing Cousins, Yo, that's That's not what you want. Isn't the whole point of Cousins going there knowing his role, Like, this is not an open QB competition where they got two lateral you know talent guys, where it's like, all right, you're going to compete for the job, you know what. It's sort of like. We had Frank Kelly endo on yesterday and by the way, if you missed, yesterday might have been one of our funniest shows in a long time, at least to us. I mean I thought every impression, every sports topic we did with him. You know, we all rolled together and the picture Sam of you and Frank. I don't know if I've ever seen that happy weird. I was just looking at we both look deranged. He has this crazy look at his face and I'm like, you're you're doing your Sichho Bob smile and he's got his Gruden look. But when he was here, you know who the guy we met? That was his opening act, right, funny dude, Yeah, Patrick Keane. But you know what he knows. He knows he's the opening act for Frank. He's not. He doesn't. There's no delusion that like he's the guy. Frank's the guy. When you have an opening act for a band, the comedian, you know the opening acts not always the opening act. I'm saying fair. Sometimes you know the role that you've taken on. And I think kirk Cousins goes to Las Vegas. He knows the assignment, right, the assignments. YO, win some games if you can. You're a good dude and a veteran smart quarterback. Teach this young kid, and if you win some games during the growing pains of Mendoza, so be it. But I think the assignment's clear. I don't think kirk Cousins is like I'm going to win the job. Hey, maybe he opens up some eyes and gets a chance somewhere else, but I think the assignment's clear.

Speaker 2: Yeah, And remember this is a rebuild, so there's going to be a lot of new moving parts. Is going to be new players, new faces. They're going to need a few weeks to gel on both sides of the ball. And that O line is what you worry about because part of the big problem last season was you had Colton Miller, who's their Pro Bowl O Ligneman, he was out injured for most of the season. JPJ went down halfway through, so they get two of their best guys healthy. Of course, they got a great, great one of the two best centers in free agency, so they're in the mode of fixing that. But I'm curious to see what's going to happen in a few weeks here with the NFL Draft. Are they going to address that O line even further by getting some depth.

Speaker 1: I think this is a great situation for Mendoza to be in. Patrick Mahomes had that luxury worked out for him. Not everyone has that luxury. It's some perfect opportunity for him to grow to learn from a really good dude, and we'll get you excited for something to root for if and when he's ready this year. What did your mom have to say about it? Again? The ritchie? Does that mean like I'm not gonna see Fernando this year? Because she was all pumped. She's a you know, longtime suffering Raider fan. You'll see him. I think you will see him. But if Cousins is doing well.

Speaker 2: If you guys had away, do you have to place a bet which NFL week do you think he would make his debut?

Speaker 1: Six? I think you're looking at that's a good one. I think, well six or seven something like that. I think like if you're looking at one in five, two and four, if you guys get off to a rough start, as the kiddo say, maybe six, seven, six or seven, that's about right, right, a third of the way a little, you know, around the third of the way there. Week six. Steve low Stockton wanted to know how many games does Captain Kirk play? But here's the thing. Much like a Russell Wilson, Alex Sanchez chiming in Manny munos, much like a russ last year for the Giants. Yeah, like you knew the assignment because they were so high on Jackson, Dart Russell Wilson. He knew that, Hey, listen, I'm no matter how well I'd do, unless I'm unless all of a sudden, I'm lighting up the league, and I'm the Russell Wilson of ten plus years ago. It's a waiting game. They're waiting for me to mess up, essentially enough to bring in the young guy. And that wasn't gonna happen because he was he said he was injured, right, he wasn't going to light it up. He was like, I'm playing on a bum knee or whatever. So the reality is Kirk Cousins has to know deep down inside that it's really a waiting game until the fans get impatient or they really think Fernando's ready. Because we all know, as optimistic as Danny always is Dan Bayer, we all know that the Raiders are not going to start the season five and one, six and oho and us be like, man, we got a problem that Cousins is the guy. I can't see that being the case.

Speaker 5: And I think it's it's amazing that Kirk Cousins is going to get twenty million dollars and it's likely to be there next year if he wants to serve as a backup. But he's not going to be a threat to Mendoza. Their other teams could have put Kirk Cousins in a spot where he competed for the job and he isn't. And I think that's that's when I look at this and I see that's where Kirk Cousins is at his career, where he looks at it and says, I'll be able to start, I'll be able to start a few games I want to play. I'm not ready to be the complete backup, but I know that my time as a backup is probably arrived and this is my last chance to do it. But it's not like he's in a spot where I look at like Jacoby Brissette was, you know in Arizona, right where he comes in and takes over for Kyler Murray and ends up thriving. No other team looked at Kirk Cousins in that sort of role.

Speaker 1: So it's a win win for both guys at this particular stage of their career. It also depends, like who they're playing in week six, right, you don't want to throw Mendoza out there.

Speaker 1: Right right? Yeah, that's interesting too. So I think all those things do matter. But I disagree with McIntyre completely. I think you sit Mendoza, protect his confidence, protect him, protect the young guy, as Ai Collins said, and Cousins does this thing he starts. I don't think there's any debate there really. I think that's just the way it has to go right now, and Rich is saying, and I like it. By week six, Mendoza's in there, He's gonna take some snacks. Isn't Kirk cousins career sort of an interesting one to assess when you really think about how he found himself starting in Washington because of injuries, and it's like Husins could be the guy. He thrived there, had some cool moments, becomes the guy in Minnesota, then that sort of expires, goes to Atlanta thinking he has a fresh start, and they go, oh, Michael Pennix Junior, come on in and now now here we are.

They're at odds over his contract, continues to get guaranteed money, continues to get guaranteed money from the Minnesota Vikings and these amazing deals. Never gets maybe enough credit that he deserves, yet was never primetime Kirk. And then he goes to the Falcons. He gets a forty million dollar deal coming off of an achilles surgery, and we're wondering what the heck is going on. So, like, I think that there's a couple of different narratives that when you're talking about who Kirk Cousins really.

Absolutely, because Dan and I just paid the two pictures that are both very accurate, but like, don't go side and side, Like you could say, like, here's the guy that made a ton of money. Here, here's one thing is great he was he was different, you know, the effected with that kind of money that there's a party that wants to prove you're worth that kind of money. Like that's why I think there's still something to prove for Cousins, even though they're telling him this is his role and he agrees, like yeah, sure, sure, I don't want it's everybody. I know it's a TV show, but we all watch Quarterback on Netflix, right, Yeah, And we gained a lot of respect for how tough he is, how much he puts into it, what a nice guy he is. I don't know, Cousins is a very interesting guy that there's, uh, there's a lot of layers of Kirk Cousins.

All of it was guaranteed. And he would do that with all of these deals. And that's what someone said, add another twenty million dollars guaranteed.

And of course we're still trying to figure out when Mahomes will we'll come back this there's there's unanswered quest Ussians in that division. I think we got one of those answers today. I have one more thought, one more Jerry Springer final thought on this before we take more phone calls and move on. Though, it takes a really big person, and I think that Kirk Cousins is that type of guy, even though still competitive. He's only thirty seven years old and I think has a lot to prove. He wants to show he's worth that money. Takes a big person to be a mentor, you know, to not look at people as competition, to want to help them and help them grow. And that could also be a part of his legacy that he may embrace, like, yeah, I'm not the Kirk Cousins I used to be, but if I could be a big part of this guy's story and he becomes something. I'm gonna take a lot of pride in that some people, no matter what your career is, they they don't necessarily want to be essentially training your replacement. You've heard that phrase many times and yeahs Farm. You know, he didn't look at it like it was his job to train Aaron Rodgers. Who is the other person? Was it, Tannehill? I feel like someone else made it very clear in the past. Jack Montana was a very kind of Steve Young. Well, that was when people just spoke their mind. They both were adamant that they were better than the other person, I think, but I think there was recently someone that said it's not my job to mentor person. That about Willis Yeah, because it was like, yo, I'm not People said are you gonna mentor this guy? And he's like, it's not my job. I'm interested in seeing what Cousins says about that. But that could be a really cool part of his story where he takes a lot of pride in helping Mendoza become a future legend in the sport. So you know, we'll see what happened, and you know, we haven't even said the name one time. Tom Brady Do we know much Danny about TV's relationship with Kirk Cousins. Are they like, you know, I know there's a camaraderie in a fraternity among amongst NFL quarterbacks, But are you assuming those those two guys get along. Is there a history with Kurt?

We used to be held against you in most careers if your resume showed a lot of hopping around, like you were in stable, Like your dad, you're on stable. Grandfather spent his entire year ware. My grandfather worked at con Edison, which is the big power company in Queens in New York, entire life for fifty years. A plaque you got like a watch. I know, little, how do you do it? But I think a nice pension though. But you know what, though, I'll say this, Sam, it's rare. Job hopping used to be a negative. Now young kids are told you're never going to get that raise you want unless you go to another company. Job hopping is no longer frown upon. In fact, people are changing jobs more than ever. In fact, to think of once one Jersey athletes like a cal Ripken or a Jeter or well Clayton Kershaw, a Magic Johnson or you know, like there's guys that. Yeah, Kershaw, being that he retired eighteen seasons with the Dodgers, he's no longer there, So it gets you thinking, well, who's left this year, right, And the first person that immediately comes to mind is Mike Trout. The only not only a guy doing an old school with one team, but he's the only old school Mike in the league as we learned, Like I find that to be mind blasting. He's the only Mike, you mean, the most common name we had growing up. Every classroom growing up had a mic in it, probably multiple mics. I mean, listen up until a year ago. I remember in the NBA, like Dame was always you know, giving a pat on the back for loyalty and giannis. And now he looks like he'll be on the move at some point, right, So it's nice that Trout seems back, but the loyalty has seemed to work against him when you see what happened with sho Hey and him moving on. But Mike Trout has been with the Angels now for sixteen years. You know who else is in that same company. I think about Tuve. Yeah, that's just crazy. It's like time's moving so fast. It goes with our theory. Rich we've been on fast for especially since the pandemic the past six years. Al Tuvey has been in the bigs for sixteen years. So he's been with the Astros for sixteen years. Troy out sixteen years. You know who's next on this list? And he guesses Flat Guerrero Junior. No, but I'll give you a hint. He was in the WBC. Oh wait, Al, yep, I'll give you another hint if you want it. He was a big part of the WBC. His team won Sally Perez. Fifteen years with the Royals, I mean he was there when they beat the Mets in twenty fifteen. And he's been that staple. He's been that dude. And honestly, when it's so rare and few and far between in today's world, like such a again, even in your world, how many people do you know that work where you work and they've been there their entire career. That's so rare. Even guys that you look at and you say, oh, they're a Dodger, Mookie was a Red Sox. They all came somewhere. Freddie was a brave You look at these guys, they were all from somewhere else. Show Hey was an angel. I hate to say it, your your boy, Judge, when he didn't go to the Giants or somewhere else.
