00:00:03 Speaker 1: Reality with the King is hosted by me, Carlos King. I'm an executive producer who have produced some of your favorite shows from the Real Housewives in Atlanta, New Jersey and my own creation, The Love and Marriage Franchise and Bell Collective. Every episode we recap reality television from the Real Housewives Franchise to The Bachelor or Selling Sunset, in addition to celebrity guests, whether in the unscripted space or scripted as well. Hey, rain drops on today's episode Reality with the King, I got my girl Kate Casey in the building. 00:00:43 Speaker 2: Hi, Kody, how are you you look? 00:00:46 Speaker 1: Ravashing? As always on this mid morning. 00:00:50 Speaker 2: Real rab Machine Monday morning. Yeah, on the heels of the Golden Globes. Did you watch? 00:00:58 Speaker 1: I listened because you know, oh, this is like our job, and people don't understand that, which is why there's people who start podcasts and then months later they disappear. Because this is a real job. So I was actually watching Potomac and Maritorn Madison to get ready for the day. But I did see clips of the Go Globes and most importantly, I saw Nikki Glazer's opening monologue. I like her a lot. 00:01:30 Speaker 2: By the way, I like her too. She's really really funny. I kept thinking, how many how many people sitting in the audience are have been convinced by their agents that they're going to win tonight, and I have a whole speech prepared, and their agents really lied to them, you know, I mean, well. 00:01:49 Speaker 1: That's all. I thought. It was funny that Tianna Taylor was like, I wasn't going to write a speech. The big with me is this, I'm kind of superstitious, kind of I'm trying to like get away from my you know, what I learned in my childhood. But I feel like you and IK would never write a speech because I think we are great at thinking on the spot and speaking on the spot that I just I would wing it and it'll be like a great. 00:02:13 Speaker 2: Speed and it would be more authentic exactly exactly. 00:02:17 Speaker 1: But you know the problem in Hollywood is God forbid, you forgot to mention the agent, the director, yeah, the casting producer, you know what I mean. They'll they'll take it personally. 00:02:30 Speaker 2: Yeah, and so will your husband and your children, right in your case, like your partner and your nieces and your nephews and your parents and everybody you work with in the last twenty five years. 00:02:46 Speaker 1: Oh yeah, my nice siblings. 00:02:48 Speaker 2: And that's a problem too with all the siblings, because there's going to be one or two that pop in your head first and then you know, number seven is like I always thought you hated me, and then you have to go to like group there. 00:03:00 Speaker 1: Yeah, and I would have like the Angie k scroll from the coblic City of People and just like breathe them off. 00:03:07 Speaker 2: By the way, that scene the finale where they're doing the play, what did you think of it? I thought it was like a sideways ambush, But then I thought the plate of the the plight of the people who make this show is they talk in circles, So how do you actually get them to have any sort of introspection or conflict resolution? If this is what you have to do, that's wild because it looked like sorority sisters who were wasted who put on a play, you know what I mean? 00:03:37 Speaker 1: Okay, your takes are so hilarious. 00:03:40 Speaker 2: I mean, how could you take that seriously? If you're sitting there and they're all they're weeping, I would be like, are you like what is this? 00:03:49 Speaker 1: I would get that part either, like this self sort of like introspection. I didn't understand Lisa crying about being commentarialistic. I was completely it. 00:03:57 Speaker 2: Was like, have you met yourself? Like today's Tuesday? What are we doing here? 00:04:01 Speaker 1: Precisely? And the other thing too, I might add, is the fact that it's not the first time someone has said this about you, right, So no, I didn't get that. 00:04:10 Speaker 2: But maybe they all felt like, oh, this is what the producers think of us. 00:04:15 Speaker 1: Well, listen, honey. 00:04:16 Speaker 2: We know that's like a knife to the heart. 00:04:19 Speaker 1: We know that it's the producers who told the actors exactly what to say. 00:04:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, they're like, okay, here's the deal on this one, and you like rip the band aid off, like yeah, you need a hardcore So maybe that's why it hit a little harder. But you know, this isn't Sheila who lives in Kansas. This is somebody who works back at the headquarters and pays my bills. 00:04:38 Speaker 1: Oh one. But that's what I was like, Look, I'm thrilled to talk to you about a brand new show because I do feel like, you know what I mean, I do feel like, okay, yeah, let's let's get to something else that's in the docu series space. Netflix is in the business of showcasing us reality. You know, we have the selling Sunset, this selling the ELC selling New York. We got only Manhattan. So there are They're trying to really get into the docu space. And Kay Casey, they have a brand new show, Members Only Palm Beach. And within the first five seconds of the show, I said, it's only one person. That's only one person I can talk to about the show. Your name immediately came to mind. I'm like, I can only talk to about this because I know my girl is going to give it to me straight, no chasing like you always do the rain drops. If you haven't heard about it, it's called Members Only Palm Beach is Netflix's new docuserie starring affluent social life featured in Palm Beach, Marlago West Palm Beach. It stars Hillary is A, Taja, Taja. 00:05:54 Speaker 2: Roslin, Maria and Gail I Jail. 00:06:02 Speaker 1: If you have time to look through seven hundred pages, right, So, Kate, this show is wild and we just have to get right into it. And it's eight episodes, a pure mess. Kate, what are your thoughts of Members Only Palm Beach Because these are affluent women who are living in a society that is very red state, very Republican. Mar Logo is the seventh character on the show for sure, Ronald Trump is the eighth. 00:06:43 Speaker 2: Yep. Well, first of all, I love a story about classism. I mean you and I have talked at length about Beverly Hills. It's the same sort of concept. Now a lot of people watch. Most people watch this between Christmas and New Year's and it was the perfect show to be because it is just complete froth. It's not anything to take very seriously. And there were several production companies that have tried over the years to do projects in Palm Beach because the best shows kind of take you into a place that few people get access to. You want to know how people live who seemingly have a completely different life than your own, So this seems like a perfect spot. The hiccup is that Palm Beach island where the billionaires, but billionaires live no one can film there. You can film in a private home, but you can't film like out on the street. So because of the constrictions, then they have to film in West Palm Beach and del Rey and the other areas. So right off the bat, if you think that you're going to see homes on Palm Beach Island. 00:07:47 Speaker 1: You're out of your mind, but explain that to Okay, So if Palm Beach Island, so two things I have I have for you? Yeah, is it? I'm assuming a very exclusive gated community and they can deny the filming permit to film. 00:08:03 Speaker 2: Any permit, Like, I don't care. If you are you know, HBO Max and you're going to make a documentary about a billionaire, you still have to get all of these permits and they disallow you from filming unless it's in a private home. So I want to paint the picture. The people who live on Palm Beach Island are the kind of people who have sculptures next to their pool. They probably have a separate made quarters, and they never speak to the maid and probably don't even have any idea what their names are. Their home is probably filled with artwork that costs more than the actual structure of the home. We are talking like mega, mega, mega money, and they traditionally only spend a few months of the year there, which is the season which is right now. So you have people who have an absurd amount of money. And at that point, I think people who have that amount of money, only believe that they can be around people who have the same amount of money because therefore they can only understand each which is preposterous. But then again, we're talking about people who we cannot relate to just right off the bat right. So that's the kind of people who live on Palm Beach Island. Now you go over the bridge to West Palm Beach where all the shops are, and it's like a cold different level of like class beneath them. So that is what's funny about the show right from the jump, is that it's a group of people who want you to or want you to believe that they live on Palm Beach Island, but they probably have absolutely no friends or connections that actually live on there. The second part of it is from what I understand from a friend who lives in that area. She said, regardless of politics, there's something about mar A Lago, And I think this is kind of like what probably happens in other places in the world where there's a lot of money, like in New York, or in la or a Moscow or in London, is that the idea of going someplace means that you've made it, like you're among the most elite of the world. So right now, people in that area are clamoring to get an invite to mar Alago because they believe if they get there, they're going to be around people who are enormously powerful, but most importantly have the most social currency. And now, while money may be abundant down there, the truth is wealth alone does not guarantee you full acceptance into elite circles. So I'm talking about influence and reputation and club memberships and invitations. They are treated as the real currency of status, and that's way more than your bank balance. So I think that this show kind of highlights how class hierarchies aren't just economic, but cultural and social. In other words, privilege must be recognized by peers to really count. So that's why you see people that lose their minds over going to mar A Lago despite what's going on in the world. You're like, you really want to go there, but that to them is social currency. So then the third part of this that's hilarious is that the group of women that they've cast for this are, with no disrespect, pretty cheesy, and a lot of them, most of them are from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is of course where I'm from too, So immediately I'm sucked in because I'm like, they're like cheesebags from Philly, like it is. 00:11:19 Speaker 1: What it is. 00:11:20 Speaker 2: They are not people who like have this pedigree and that they went to like these elite boarding schools and they worked to Goldman Sachs and they, you know, go to Moustique. You in theory are watching this because you want to see wealth versus social currency and these hierarchies. But it's a bunch of people that are transplants. Now. During COVID, I don't even remember this, but I was trying to pitch a show, which was, in retrospect, the dumbest plate time to ever pitch a show. But I had this idea of transplants, like people who move to other parts of the country because of COVID, and the idea that makes me laugh. People that are sort of like fish out of water. This to me if they didn't name it Members only Palm Beach, which they have to because it sucks you in a second, like subtitle could be the Transplants, because it's people from Philadelphia trying to fit into not only these elite social circles, but also culturally there's such a disparity. I mean, people in Philadelphia, as you know, because you know me, are like extremely direct, extremely direct. So they're trying to finesse these social structures and they're talking about all of these rules of rules of engagement and etiquette, but they're like a bowl in a china shop. You know, they're wearing like sequin dresses. But they revealed themselves to be like somebody who would probably be in an Eagles game in the alley, like stabbing somebody. You know, I know my people. So that's why it's so funny too. Last part I would say is, for the most part, I think they are absolutely authentically themselves. 00:12:57 Speaker 1: They've probably watched. 00:12:57 Speaker 2: The Real Housewives before, sure, but you get the feeling that despite what they have in their bank account, the real thing that they want more than anything in the world is to be famous, and that, to me is a recipe for success. 00:13:14 Speaker 1: Hey, Tasey, ladies jumping the gays and days. I mean, now you see why I waited for her to be available to talk because she's the only person that could have broken it down to a science, and I thank you for it. I looked at this show and your rights over the holidays. I'm like, you know, working a little bit but also trying to relax. I put it on and Kate is sucked me in like of bord text within five minutes because at somebody as you know, whose first reality job was The Real Housewives of Atlanta back in two thousand and eight, it reminded me of how okay, this is sort of a nod to getting back to the old school reality. Yeah, which is to your point, have these women watch Housewives before one hundred percent? But they are authentically themselves and there's nothing like a season one cast regardless because they are so green to the process. I mean, we'll get to the finale where Hillary may be dumbest mistake by asking the production are we filming? Am I? I'm still I'm like girl, They're still yeah exactly, So we'll get to that later. But they are authentically themselves. And what I what I do appreciate about the show is, and I know you and I enjoyed this, it's a very diverse age range of women. Where society as a whole, especially Hollywood, they sort of like to discard women after forty and I appreciate the fact that we can swear to see women in their forties, fifties, hey, Gail, sixties, really, you know, be entertaining. So I want to start with Hillary, who is considered self proclaimed the Queen Bee of the show Kate. She is a real estate developer and known for her no nasense attitude and social circle. She lives in a forty million dollar mansion in West Palm Beach. She's building an eighteen but well, you. 00:15:27 Speaker 2: Just don't forty million dollars, I don't know, did you choose? And she lives in West Palm Beach. 00:15:33 Speaker 1: She lives and this is and the beauty of this is this I don't know about this. This is on Netflix's website. 00:15:41 Speaker 2: To the two Doom thing. Yeah, they the articles. I think she's I think that, yes, it is. I think what they probably mean is that she's got a real estate development project and she wants to sell that for forty million dollars. 00:16:01 Speaker 1: This is reality with the King, and I'm Carlos King. Let's get back into the show. Well, it says here, Hillary lives in a forty mini dollars match at West Palm Beach and she's building an eighteen thousand square for water prohm to sell. 00:16:21 Speaker 2: N because I feel like, and you know those with housewives, like do you remember the days where like Peggy Salaion's like husband would like open the jewelry box and'd be like, Oh, I'm gonna get her this necklace. Then you find out like it's like a cousin has a jewelry business and loaned for a day and she's talking about rain drops. 00:16:40 Speaker 1: The one hundred housewife who was a one season wonder on The Real Waderbores County continue. 00:16:45 Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm just like all of this stuff. You know, when they when they put a number up on the screen, I kind of find it hard to believe. But I don't know if they're writing the article. What's interesting about her is she's very good friends with Jill Zarn So I think Jill probably gave her like a little playbook like Okay, this is what you need to know. And I can kind of see that because there are certain cast members, like from the very beginning where she's like, I have zero interest in never filming. So what I understand behind the scenes is that Roslin and Hillary absolutely despise one another. Now I interviewed Roslin, and I asked her if she had known Hillary, and she said, well, we're both members of a club and I'm very social, and I had never seen her before. I had no idea who this woman was. And then we're cast on the show together. So there's already the classes and mission between the two of them. Now Hillary has done interviews and basically makes it seem like Roslin is persona non grata in town, like she's overstepped or welcome. There are a lot of people that want nothing to do with her. So these two have the biggest beef. So I would say it's sort of like, you know, look at like on a Housewives, where you've got these two women that have all of these friends that kind of crossover, sort of like the beginning of like Rony right, it was like Jill and Jill. It's it's sort of like that. 00:18:07 Speaker 1: Okay, So these two. 00:18:08 Speaker 2: Despise one another and for that alone, you're like, I'm put the I'm ready for it, I like it, I'm into it. 00:18:14 Speaker 1: What the fucking car gear? Pay casey? Yeah, thank you. 00:18:18 Speaker 2: Okay, now here's what you need to know about Roslin. 00:18:20 Speaker 1: So, by the way, Kate, who is my favorite? 00:18:24 Speaker 2: Oh yeah? So okay, So that's when I interviewed. You gotta go listen to that, all right, Okay, So picture Rosalind. First of all, she made it seem as if to me that she has been with her husband for the duration of like her like adult life. She's a mom of five. What Hillary has pointed out post show and interviews is that Roslin was married before and so I think they're two children from the first marriage. Now Roslin says, yeah, but by the way, that was a horrible marriage and why are you bringing that up? So this is like the kind of stuff we're like, wait, what's going on? So they both want to destroy each other's lives and again for that, I salute them. Okay, So Roslin has five kids. Here's what you need to know. In Philly, she was taught like dance classes at a gym, and she told me that she would roll up to the gym in a bentley. That was like her whole thing. She was like stay at home mom who teaches like zumba classes and rolls up in the bentley. Her husband owns like a bail bondsman's business, which to me is like I need a reality show about that, Like what's that about? Right? Okay, sure are So when Roslin comes to Palm Beach, I think, well, she has said all of her kids were basically out the door, they had all gone off to college. So now this is her time to like really shine. And I think what's interesting is like this transition period for a certain age group, like your kids have left, you're stuck at home with your husband. For them, I think they're like, we know everybody here. There's a certain level we're not going to make it past because Philadelphia, as much as we'll stab you in an alley, there's also a lot of old money and social circles, like you're not going to get in, Like it's like just forget about it, right, So she moves to Palm Beach, which, by the way, I'm like, is this gonna be any better? So she and her bail bondsman husband have moved to Palm Beach and they're trying to like work their way through again. Another one who's like mar A Lago is the top they for them. It's like mar A Lago is like an Olympic medal, do you know what I mean? Like, if you get invited, that's where they want to go. Okay, would you go, would you go? Okay tomorrow? 00:20:33 Speaker 1: Lago No no, no, no, hear me out. No no, no mine no no, no, hear me out. You're like me. You're a journalist and you're nosy to be nosy, to be a fly on the wall. Oh that's what I'm talking about. 00:20:46 Speaker 2: No, I have people to do it for me, like I love you, so yeah, but I'm not I'm not going there. Okay. So she's probably trying to reinvent herself. So she tells me the reason that she knows Romina is because Romina's cousin used to take her dance class in Philadelphia. So the way she explained it was, I get to Palm Beach and I'm starting my life. And she's talking about her Instagram like she is like a major influencer, which again is like my favorite kind of person, favorite kindnant person who's like they already perceived themselves. They've manifested it. You know, they're doing like the crystals. They're like, I'm going to be a big time celebrity. So she says that Romina reaches out to her and says, I've now moved to Palm Beach area adjacent probably like Delray Beach or something, and I've looked at your Instagram and you seem to be living a fabulous life. Now again, this is her explaining the story to me, and I'm imagining, can you imagine telling me that story? This guy named Matt reached out to me and he said, Carlos, I looked at your Instagram, and I thought to myself, he is living a life that one can only dream of. Like you'd be like, Matt, have you lost your mind? You know what I mean? Yeah, So she's That's the way she explained it. She said, Romina looks at my life and really just as like I want what you have. And that's why she started to take her under her wing and invite her to parties, because the way they want you to make you believe is that getting invited to any party during the season is near impossible. However, other friends have told me who live in the area. Now it's like trunk shows, like you can go to any party, like it's not a big deal. Are you gonna get on Palm Beach Island and go to the house that has the sculptures next to the pool with the chandelier and the maid and the you know, swilling chardonnay and looking at the ocean. No, but you could go to Alice and Olivia's store opening, like that's okay, you know what I mean? Okay, So that's and now Romina is new money. She's an immigrant and she's new money. And that's kind of fascinating too, because now I think that like people of a certain age and a certain bank account, I think that's kind of interesting too, how they perceive younger couples, Yes, you have new money, and I think that like makes them uncomfortable, like well, how did you earn your money? As if like demeaning them, you know. Okay, So, and I love her because she's kind of got like a wacka do style. And now listen, if you live in Palm Beach, you're gonna wear like Zimmerman and you're gonna have like you're not gonna have the claw talents. You're not gonna be wearing like a like, you know, a crop top she and a shay style. You're just not. However, probably in West Palmer or del Rey or Boca. I mean, like that's fine. So that's what the like, the unsaid thing that they're basically intimating is like she's trashy because she wears crap tops and she probably goes to Boca to a club. Meanwhile, I think she and her husband do pretty well and they've got young kids. So there's like a total disconnect because you've got someone like Gail who has the worst wig that I've ever and I'm not somebody who pays attention to wigs. So if I if I notice it, it's bad, you know what I mean. Yeah, it's like I never know who's like high at a party, Like that's just not my lane, that's not my wheelhouse. I also don't pay attention to wiggs. If it's that bad, it's that bad. For that, I salute her. And she's somebody who probably had money twenty five years ago, but her husband passed away and now she's an identity crisis. So she's probably pissed at this young girl. Younger girl. She's probably like thirties right, with young children, gorgeous body, yes, and she and her husband are probably gonna, like, you know, make twice as much, right, and she's at a real crisis at her life. Like I'm not accepting now. The story about Gayla is that she got kicked out of mar Alago one time, or she tried to talk to Donald Trump. Apparently it was like hey remember me, and I think security was like, get this lunatic out of here. 00:24:49 Speaker 1: And then did you see but she wants to. 00:24:51 Speaker 2: Go back if I was kicked out of a party. Let me tell you something. If I was kicked out a party, I don't want to go back. 00:24:56 Speaker 1: No. Never, never. Now there is a bottled that circulating online. I don't I don't think it's Ai. But Gail who knows of her with Donald Trump? He did write her a letter. 00:25:10 Speaker 2: Probably maybe like fifteen years ago, right. 00:25:12 Speaker 1: Like this is years ago. But again, what we know of Donald Trump allegedly is he's a it's a boys club, so he may have known her husband. 00:25:23 Speaker 2: Probably her husband, yeah right, probably, yeah, thats. 00:25:25 Speaker 1: Yes, And that's sort of like her proxy to him. But at the Netflix premiere party of this show, have you seen his footage of security wrapping Gail removing her from the party. 00:25:39 Speaker 2: Well, Gail, I think maybe she just like doesn't know how to like pedal a break, you know what I mean. You know somebody who goes to the party and you're like, Okay, let's have a glass of wine and They're like, I'm on glassy. I don't know. I think she just takes it too far. 00:25:52 Speaker 1: Oh, it takes a tumble. 00:25:55 Speaker 2: If you know she's rhythmic gymnastics expert. She throws a couple of back off a bench. How do you fall off a bench? Remember she fell off the bench. And I love a wag askew. That's my favorite. 00:26:11 Speaker 1: Yeah, Caren and Huger Potomac. So the thing that I thought was so interesting was this was, like, to me, one of the first reality shows that really honed in all like you said, classism, hierarchy, Dale and Rosenland sort of took Romina under their ring. Not that you give us a backstory and they tell me, but they're taking. 00:26:36 Speaker 2: Her under her wing. Let's be honest, Like if I if I'm at a table with them and we're all I would go, You guys took her under your wing because you wanted to demeanor. You wanted to make yourself feel better. You shouldn't dress that way. You look like a whore. I mean, didn't say that, but if that's what they're intimating, right, like, you're no cluss. They wanted to feel better about themselves and the way that they were so weird with each other, like I love you. Oh my god, you're passing the torch? What what torch are you talking about? It's like delusion. But the way they were talking to her was so demeaning. 00:27:10 Speaker 1: Yeah no, and I what was so fascinating to me was how Romina sort of tried to listen and understand it, but they kept beating her up and she broke down. She cried, She yelled at Gail, your wig is bad, you know. And then what was so interesting to me is the sort of love affair that Rosalind and Gail have towards each other. What do you make of that? Because Roll is at Gail like like you are lucky to be in her world. But people Hillary said Gail is full of shit, and she got and that her Marologual membership is not on pause because they'll do pauses. 00:27:55 Speaker 2: I think it's like Housewives, where you've got a new person on the show and there's someone who is kind of pulled them aside and gone like, just you know, if you want to have success on the show, you know, just hang with me, like I know the ropes. I'm best friends with everybody. And then they find out at the end of the season that actually the producers hate that person and so does the audience. I think it was like that. I think she thought, well, according to Hillary, she's like persona non gratta like all over town. So maybe she felt like, I've got a life raft here. If I cling onto this, then like I'll have some ability to I don't know, like this secures me the opportunity to be on the show. It for the season, if not for three more. I don't know. Maybe she's like led her to believe that she's like really tight with the producers. I find a lot of reality stars kind of do that, especially with first season, Like when you have an ensemble show, it's like, oh, you know, this was actually my idea for the show, and you know, I'm really close, and then you find out later that that's not even remotely true. Yeah, and I have to tell you, Like, there's a guy on TikTok. His name is like the elder Annial, and he started posting that he had a show that he was creating in Palm Beach and that uh, Sue Bell, who's the older woman. 00:29:10 Speaker 1: Who you have to describe baby Obsessed. 00:29:14 Speaker 2: Said he had Sue Bell on his show and then he was frustrated because the net whatever network didn't take that show. So I know three different projects in Palm Beach now. So there's Snowbirds, which was Purveyors of Pop, which was Bravo didn't want. Then we have this show, and then there was this other one with his guy Joey, and he said Sue Bell was a part of his and he said, we just couldn't get interest. Then it was like two days later he said, guess what, because of the success of the Netflix show, we're back on board. 00:29:44 Speaker 1: Oh they are. 00:29:45 Speaker 2: He said, there are two companies that now want to make the show. But he said the caveat is that they probably can't have Sue Bell because she's got a conflict with Netflix. So my point is, I think all of these women who are thirst traps are all kind of like at lunch together Sherry notes, trying to get in roads, and they're all completely unaware of how much the other person knows. And they are all these like production companies there sniffing around. One could maybe believe that Gail had some sort of power if you had like thick glasses on and hearing needs. And just to me, it's obvious, like what that I know somebody. I know somebody who worked on one of those projects, and they said that. She said that Gail is completely like just like bananas, just bananas, like not doesn't live on our planet, like I'm a big deal, like I'm a superstar. Like she thinks she should be on the cover of Town and Country, which for reality shows is perfection. But if we were in real life, we with throat punch her. But great of course. So I think, yeah, the unsophisticated person who's trying to work their way up the ladder may have for three seconds gone, that's the life raft. I've got to like hang myself onto that one because that's what's going to take me places. 00:31:12 Speaker 1: So that makes sense why Roslyn feels like she has this allegiance towards her, because when you think about Taja and Maria, I really was here for Maria and Romina's friendship. Yeah, I like Romina, not Romina. Maria reminds me of a mob life totally. You know, she gets a little bit of renee Gano. 00:31:33 Speaker 2: Like definitely, I feel like she could beat somebody up. She could absolutely take someone down. She's like UFC adjacent. And also, I love a midlife DJ now some on social media who are in that space, or like she uses beginner's equipment, and I say, gives a shit because my favorite was when Melissa Gorgo wanted to be a pop star at age like thirty five. So I love a midlife DJ now. Of course, like I said, the classes and issues are like, she doesn't DJ at mar A Lago, okay, Like, so I think they're trying to say, like she DJs at like a Jamba juice outside, you know, like a stre party, which kind of would make her even better. But when she crawled across the floor on the song after they had, you know, said to Romina, you have to be careful about the way that you dress when we know these parties that they're going to are not actually on Palm Beach Island. They're like in a strip mall in a neighboring town. 00:32:33 Speaker 1: So explain that to me, because obviously, listen, the a story across all eight episodes is the fact that what you said earlier is the fact that everybody wants to belong to mar Alago, which is on Palm Beach Island. 00:32:50 Speaker 2: Correct, No, but it's it's like you could probably see it from Palm Beach Island. It's like across the water. 00:32:57 Speaker 1: Got it? 00:32:58 Speaker 2: But like that's just the status be like for lack of and this is a real weak example, but like back in the day, like soho house, Remember it was like Okay, I don't know how I need to get there, but I gotta go there because you know, if I'm seen there, that means like I'm super sophisticated, I'm high, like super high in the social ladder. 00:33:20 Speaker 1: And there's membership fees associated. 00:33:23 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean these I mean it's bananas. It's like hundreds of thousands of dollars for these clubs. Okay, So then my friend was visiting and her dad, excuse me, my friend's dad was visiting and he lives in a penhouse on Palm Beach. No is it West Palm Beach, No, it's Palm Beach, Palm Beach Island. Yeah, one of them. But I go, okay, give me the lowdown, like what's up? And he said the same thing. He goes, people will lose their minds. They're only here for a couple of months, because he's there for a couple like in the nice months. But he's like, there are people who will come here just to like find somebody. Like the people will come to try to like snag themselves like a like a wealthy woman or a wealthy man just to like saddle up. Like the crazies will come out on top of like the people that are the billionaires and the super connected. Then you have the tryhards that are coming there to kind of like snag somebody. So you have all levels of social situations and status and all kinds of different people. So that's what makes it such a wildly fascinating id like like Art Buzzel in Miami, Right, Yeah, you're the people that are actually buying like a acasso, and then you have the people who are wearing like plastic dresses and you know, got an uber and are hoping that they meet like an oligarch. Like that's fascinating, right, Like that's that's good, that's good time to watch. 00:34:53 Speaker 1: This is why this show is interesting because I think listen, when it comes to the raw hospals parks, we kind of know how the sausage is made. And every city, yes is different, but tonally it's we know what we're getting watching it, right, And they're so self aware that they're all jockeying for position, and they're all trying to like be a carbon copy of the Queen Bee on the various shows and blah blah blah, because it's sort of like the game of Thrones on Housewives, because you can be a one season person and lose her and get fired and they bringing on somebody else whereas what's interesting about Members Only Palm Beach is the fact that we are in the world that we hear about and the elephant in the room is this and I could not wait to talk to you about it. We know that on Housewives, for example, it's considered faux paul for a housewife to be a Donald Trump supporter or even to admit that she's a Republican. Right. What's interesting about Members Only Palm Beach is they lean into those two things that housewives would never do, despite who they follow on that's true. Yeah, do you think I thought that was a very interesting choice for Netflix to say, we're seeing over two hundred countries. This man is the president of the United States, so there are people who follow him on social media and it digit do voted for him. This is a world that Bravo, in my opinion, would never tap into because of the PC nature of the show. Do you think it was smart for Netflix and lean into it because it provides something globally? 00:36:43 Speaker 2: It was like top top ten, so obviously it resonated. But I think what people, I think that the best way to sum it up is on Housewives, you have like the friend of who's like a wacky character. It's a show of all wacky side characters, like each person is. It wouldn't be enough to be maybe like cast and a real And actually I read that Maria tried to be on Real Housewives of New York like years. 00:37:09 Speaker 1: Ago, so I can see that. 00:37:12 Speaker 2: It's it's like the person who's like the side character on the Housewives. It's just it's just show filled with them. So it's like enormously funny because they're trying so hard to work their way into a system that will never accept them. There's no I mean, people who have a lot of money would never be accepted into social circles in Palm Beach. So the the idea of these like transplants who are like cheesy trying to make their way when it's like so obvious to the audience, like you will never be accepted. What are you doing? But their tenacity. You gotta you gotta respect the hustle. 00:37:50 Speaker 1: Oh and and and that's what it is to me. They're all hustlers. And to me, I feel like Sue Bell is like the only real deal. 00:38:01 Speaker 2: Oh for sure, yes, yes, uh huh okay, She's like personifies Palm Beach. It would kind of be like me doing a show about me and a group of my friends with kids trying to go to New York to be like Eileen Ford models, you know what I mean, where you're like everybody be like girl, give it up, you know what I mean. It's like that, and that's what's so funny. 00:38:27 Speaker 1: And the thing about Sue Baille, did you know this Kate that she's a former fashion model. 00:38:34 Speaker 2: She was a former fashion model. Yeah, and she was married up until recently. I think he passed away. But literally, what I have heard is like she knows everybody. But like I said, this guy says that she was supposed to be part of his show, but now she's obligated, probably because contractually obligated with Netflix now. 00:38:53 Speaker 1: Which is interesting because she's not main cast. 00:38:56 Speaker 2: No. But then Hillary did an interview apparently where she said Sue is like eighty and the and the filming is really hard for her. Or actually, when I heard that, I thought, is she trying to sabotage her by putting that out in the world, like she doesn't like her getting. 00:39:13 Speaker 3: So we have to talk about Hillary. So what I gathered is, like you said, in New York And it's funny that Hillary and Jill zerre a our friends because Hillary, to me is like the Jill zeron of the show, you know how like Jill Zer to the full ownership of like I'm the queen bee of New York City. 00:39:37 Speaker 1: New York City is my playground. I'm going to take bethany another you know, transplant and introduce her to my social circle. And Jill Zerry even today, after not being on the show for MENI meany meany many years, she still believes that when it comes to New York City, especially Upper East Side, that she is the queen Bee and that she's been doing this for years. Hillary has that personality when it comes to that, though. Do you buy that Hillary is presenting herself to be as authentic as she proclaims to be. 00:40:15 Speaker 2: Oh, I think she's totally authentically herself. I think she and jail have a similar personality. Probably probably had moms that were kind of like, this is why it is, and you know, domineering and you know you got to do this. And I think they probably are like that with their friends. What do you mean you're going to do that? And you have to go on vacation here and this is the hotel that you stay at. I think she's totally authentically herself. What I find is so funny again is that they all are actually from Philadelphia. They didn't like a lot of them didn't even have crossover. They all just happened to be from Philadelphia. The five main cast members, almost all of them. Hillary is from Philadelphia, born and raised in Philadelphia. That's what I'm telling you. They're all fish out of water. I love it so so anyway, she's been Hilary's been there for I think twenty one seasons or something. By the way, married five times A love a woman who's had a lot of marriages. Love it. 00:41:08 Speaker 1: Oh that tells me everything I need to know. I do love though the relationship she has with her son. I think despite all of that, he seems to be like a well rounded young man. 00:41:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, but five times, five times. 00:41:24 Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you think about her husband? 00:41:29 Speaker 2: I mean, he's fine. He's like a dud, you know what I mean. But if she's that kind of personality, she needs a dud. 00:41:37 Speaker 1: She one thousand. I think. Yeah, after the fourth husband, she realized I need somebody that doesn't want the spotlight. It's all about me. Doesn't really have a job, you know what I mean, like kind of me. 00:41:50 Speaker 2: I think she tested on Heather Heather's podcast that I think he was like the concierge at a hotel. 00:41:57 Speaker 1: It was Yes, that's how they met. 00:42:00 Speaker 2: My mom always said, you can only have one star of the show, and that is you know, wherever, whatever it may be. So let's say your husband is a teacher, you go to the teacher's event, he's the star of the show. But then when you go to the roller skating rink and you're the roller skating star, you're the star of the show. I think Hillary is the star of the show in her life with that, like in her marriage, every day of the week. And I think he's totally fine with it. 00:42:28 Speaker 1: Doesn't give a shit, doesn't care at all. He likes cooking. 00:42:32 Speaker 2: Yeah, A funny thing that happened when I interviewed Roslin was she had just started to see the episodes, so I had seen the episodes before, but it was like the day before she had binged the entire She said, I stayed in bed and I watched all eight at eight episodes. So she was in that frantic mode which you go through every day of your life, where you're getting calls from yes, the cast members like holy shit, like what why did you include that? That's not what I meant. So I grabbed her right that moment. So she was in that frantic period. But then she goes, I really like the way I look on TV and that I was like, you're made for TV. That confidence should propel you through it because this is not going to be easy for anybody to endure the comments, you know, the attention. But if she could in the chaosco I gotta tell you I look great on TV. I was like, this is this is your life, this is it, this is it for you. 00:43:27 Speaker 1: That's why listen. As a seasoned producer, that's why my watch this show. I gravitated towards more of her because I'm like, there is something special about her. I think she's very likable, very likable. I think she means everything that comes out of her mouth. I think she's so aloof two things that she has a leaf, you know what I mean? I got that from her. She honestly was somebody that I was like, great casting her, and look, I like Hillary, you know what I mean, I like a boss woman. I think that's good to watch now before I'll let you go. 00:44:03 Speaker 2: But by the way, the scene where that they're in like West Palm Beach and they're at the you know, uh was it? Taja and Roslin are waiting for Hillary to arrive such a ball or move to go to show up like forty minutes. That's like I need to remember remind you I'm more important. And then when I get there, I'm also gonna remind you I work and you don't. You just sit around all day and like do AEROBICX. Like that to me was like put that in a college course. Unbelievable. 00:44:35 Speaker 1: So I really Ca'm gonna mention the cars he rolled up in and the outfit she was wearing. 00:44:40 Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, Yeah, that is why you need Hillary on that show. I was like, oh my god, this is so well played because she probably was around the corner. She was just waiting like I'm gonna wait. Yeah. One time, Dan Dan, my husband had a business like when he was in college, and he goes into this investor meeting and they meet. He gets to the with his colleagues to the office and it was like two hours. They made him sit in in the uh in like the lobby two hours and then they go into the meeting and the guy is all the way in the corner. There's no furniture in the office. Really, the desk is all the way in the corner, and their stacks of cash. 00:45:22 Speaker 1: What uh huh like wait wait physical cash. Yeah. 00:45:29 Speaker 2: Anyway, it was like a meeting about like potential investment. And now he looks back at he's like, what like that is like a trip and that person who who I will tell you offline who it was, is the subject of a documentary out in the world. But that was like one of their like moves is like to keep the people waiting in the lobby to remind you you wait for me. So if somebody that's my advice to you, if you want to see diabolical, arrange a meeting and make somebody wait for a while. But that's what you did. 00:46:04 Speaker 1: Rain Johns that's what. You have to watch this on YouTube as well, because my mouth is on the fucking floor. I'm fascinated by that. Okay, Kate of all the housewives from Beverly Hills, oh See, Atlanta, Potomac, New York City, New Jersey, Miami. Okay, what housewife pastor present? 00:46:27 Speaker 2: Okay? 00:46:28 Speaker 1: Can you see being a part of members only? Palm Beach? 00:46:33 Speaker 2: Oh Alexia in Miami. Oh, but she's like think she's like I think she's a democrat. I just think like her aesthetic, but like that that kind of like I'm a former mob mob wife kind of mentality, and I kind of think she would be so funny, like I don't need to go to mar al Ago. That would be funny to have somebody kind of show up and like I don't want to be seen there. That would be of the conflict, would be great. 00:47:03 Speaker 1: Yes, I see her, I can see Sutton. Oh could you no? Tell me no? 00:47:13 Speaker 2: No, because she represents to me the actual people that live there that are embarrassed by the show. Like she would she'd be like, I do you think Sutton wouldever want to be seen with Romina? No, Like that's that's old money versus new money, right, what I want Sutton on the show, of course. But you know what I said to Did I say this to oh Darren who made the show? To the producer? Yeah, yeah, I said, Darren, you are going to have so many unbelievable people reach out to you who want to be on the show. It's just going to get better and better and better. Oh. 00:47:50 Speaker 1: Absolutely. And they have. 00:47:51 Speaker 2: People from like Europe and like, yeah, god knows where in the world that are going to go. I want to be on that show. People do that with Housewives. Now we're talking global scale. This show is going to get better and better and better. 00:48:05 Speaker 1: I want more of it. 00:48:06 Speaker 2: I I. 00:48:09 Speaker 1: Really enjoyed because again you and I have talked about this, how we're kind of bored with the same a reality and blah blah blah blah, and I felt like this this woke me up. It was sort of like too, yeah, it woke me up. 00:48:21 Speaker 2: Like I was like, now we're cooking. 00:48:23 Speaker 1: Now we're cooking, and I'm intrigued by conversations that I don't have on all the shows and listen it was. It was more of an eye opening world to me that I know exists, but no one dares to show and it reminds me of because I said this to you about like the view for example, how I'm like, you know, I want to know more about like the other side, because they do exist, and I'm just curious about like their thought process and rather or not, you know, people agree or not disagree. I think it's worth hearing the other side. And I think this show really showed you how the other side lived. They talk about and it was like being a fly on the wall. 00:49:04 Speaker 2: Also, I kept thinking this was filmed last year, and like, as time goes on and the world changes, honey, it's all going to be so different season to season, you know, absolutely absolutely, like put this in a time capsule, right. 00:49:24 Speaker 1: Oh, I want more of it. So listen rain Jobs. If you haven't watched it yet members only, Palm Beach is currently streaming on Netflix and listen watch the episodes. If you have watched it, let Kate and I know what you think. 00:49:40 Speaker 2: I want to know. 00:49:41 Speaker 1: We're both packed up on X and we will respond to you, so let us know. He was comments on Spotify as well. Hey Kate Casey, let my audience know where they can find you. Follow your support you, my darling. 00:49:55 Speaker 2: Well, the first thing they need to know is that every week I put out a list of what to watch. So there are reality shows and documentaries that you do not know about, and I don't want you to miss out on it. So if you go to Katekacy dot substock dot com, you're going to get a list. And I have run everything from sports to true crime, to reality ensembles, to competition to obscure documentaries. So go there. You can find me on TikTok and it's katekc Instagram at Kkcca, I'm on x I'm on Threads. My podcast is called Reality Life with Kksey. I have six episodes a week and I'm bringing you interviews with the people behind camera and in front of the camera. And I'm telling you by the end of the week, you're going to go, oh my god, I have three things I have to watch. 00:50:37 Speaker 1: Yes, yes, we have to talk about documentary that was on your list that I did watch? Which one Evil Influencer? 00:50:44 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I interviewed the director of that one. 00:50:47 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's when we watch it. 00:50:49 Speaker 2: Oh was this woman insane or what? By the way, do you think that they I think that they were lovers. Well, the daughter she wrote a book and she said that that one night her mom was going up to her room upstairs and that Jody was upstairs and there were like all these candles lit. 00:51:11 Speaker 1: They really do like about that? 00:51:13 Speaker 2: Yes, well that's what I think that like Jody has like internalized repression of her sexuality and she takes she was taking it out on a lot of the men that she would bring in these couples for therapy and then convincing these women you don't really need your husband, you need to because I think she wants to like get it, get down to get down. Yeah, one hundred percent they were. There were a couple that's and then you that the shame that they were probably carrying because their religion is like this is not cool. 00:51:45 Speaker 1: Yeah, and they lived together. The husband had to see his children over a year. 00:51:51 Speaker 2: Yeah, that dingling husband who's out of the house doesn't see his kids. It is like, okay, whatever you say. 00:51:59 Speaker 1: There was two I still the house in the. 00:52:02 Speaker 2: Desert, the multimillion dollar house and the couple's massages with the with the campbells. Yes, they were absolutely a couple. 00:52:11 Speaker 1: Okay, I can talk to you all day. All right. 00:52:13 Speaker 2: By the way, last question, did you watch did you watch heated rivalry. 00:52:18 Speaker 1: Am I not an ugly gay man who like loves loves all things LGBT? Honey over the it was Christmas break? Yeah, And and to the point Kate, I thought the finale was like episode seven, you know what I mean? 00:52:38 Speaker 2: Like, so I was like wait what. 00:52:40 Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, okay, ways, but I was sort of like, all right, next episode. I'm like, are you kidding me? 00:52:48 Speaker 2: Besides, and then I went insane on threads. I was like, please tell me there's another season. But the good people of HBO Max and Crape by the way, and astute person at HBO Max was like, you know Crave, which is basically HBO in Canada, Like they've got some incredible stuff that person needs, like a raise and a half, you know what I mean. What they're guys brave projects. 00:53:15 Speaker 1: Yes, like the Casey brothers, the guys who this trade for things, the guy who did what's that Kevin Costner's not anymore paramount, yo, you know how to get like these massive overall deals. Yeah, they need that. 00:53:32 Speaker 2: Oh right, it's I hope those guys. You know what. The biggest thing I walked away from that This is how you know my brain thinks, please bring back unknown actors. Stop stop hiring people because they have a big TikTok following. 00:53:47 Speaker 1: It doesn't. 00:53:48 Speaker 2: It doesn't superb actors. If they had stuck some of these you know, influencers in the same actors all the time, that would have not been the same project. 00:53:59 Speaker 1: No, I can't not, Can I go still further to start if you're going to have a gay role, start again, cav openly gay actors. 00:54:10 Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. 00:54:12 Speaker 1: It was so I mean, I could talk about this all day it was. But anyways, it was a ten out of a ten. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 00:54:20 Speaker 2: Like I said, it's like casting me to be like a just Sell Buncheon. It's like, okay, what he'd a rivalry. I hope those guys have very long, long careers. And you know what I like too, Yeah, I think that the actor that played Shane, he is so funny in interviews. He's totally authentic himself. I like that the publicists are not telling him to, you know, kind of turn the volume down on his personality. He like curses and is like, yeah, I love that too. 00:54:55 Speaker 1: No, I think they're great. They're great. Please watch he a robbery on HBO Max two is a underful scripted show, and again it goes with what we were saying about members only palm Beach. I think the success of these shows is showing the world that people are bored with the same on the same all and the fact that more women are watching hitted robbery than gay men shows you and a lot of streatment. I'm watching it too, but it goes to show you that there's an audience for new storytelling, whether it's unscripted a scripted. Yep, yeah, all right, love you kkse, honey, thank you, I'll see you the next one. 00:55:34 Speaker 2: You got it. 00:55:38 Speaker 1: Reality with the King is executive produced by me Carlos King, produced by Lizzie Nimitz, and a partnership with the Lack Effect Network.
