It looks like it's going to be a fine year at the box office. In the movie review, I'll be talking about Primate, which is a horror movie about a killer monkey who attacks a bunch of people on a tropical vacation. And in the trailer park, I'll be talking about Madden and everybody's problem with Nicholas Cage as John Madden because it doesn't look like it's up to the standards of a whole lot of people. The year is going to kick me right in the nuts because on June twenty sixth, Jackass five is coming out. If you know me, I am a huge fan of Jackass. I watched it on MTV. Got really into Viva Labam. I've seen every.

Speaker 1: Single movie multiple times. When Jackass three D came out, I went to a midnight release. I was still working on The Bobby Bone Show as an intern during that time, and Steve O actually came in studio for an interview to promote that movie. You could tell that I was just so ecstatic of like, Wow, I'm just starting out in radio and Steve O from Jackasses here, I've been watching you on TV from Jackass, and then I got really into Viva Labam and then also with Steve O, I watch Wild Boys. What I think these movies do not get credit enough for is how unorthodox the format is because essentially it is just a bunch of random skits or what now would be YouTube videos or even TikTok's patched together. There is no continuous storyline in a Jackass movie. It is seen after seeing Some are longer than others. Sometimes they are quick five second bits in between these bumpers, in between different segments. There is nothing you can go into the theater to watch that is like a Jackass movie, but it is an experience. It has a huge fan base, this community that goes into the theater just wanting to have a good time and laugh in a way that makes you uncomfortable, that shows you very disgusting things that pushes the limits. I think they do not get enough credit for how much money they've been able to make at the box office for something that on paper probably shouldn't be successful. And I think it's all because of Johnny Knoxville, who is one of my idols, and he is the ringleader of this entire group. He is a modern day bugs Bunny and how he orchestrates all these stunts that essentially are like live action Looney Tunes. And to me, I would say the franchise really ended with Jackass three D because that was the last time they were all fully a part of all the stunts. Because now they are getting older, and even when they made that movie, they thought that was gonna be the last one because their bodies couldn't take it anymore. But with the last movie, Jackass Forever, they brought in a new crew, some fresh blood who were able to do some of the things that they did early on that their bodies just cannot take. But still Johnny Knoxville will always have that one big stunt, whether it's getting attacked by a bull or taking off on a rocket that almost blows off his entire leg. And Johnny Knoxville is now fifty four years old, so I can't wait until we get to like Jackass eight, when they are in the retirement room and we go full circle. He's doing bad Grandpa, except he doesn't have to put on the prosthetic makeup and face anymore. So that is why I have this movie at number ten. I'm a huge Johnny Knoxville and Jackass fan. Jackass five unless they might change the title, but right now that's all the details we know about. It is coming out on June twenty sixth, right around my birthday, which I always have an appreciation for any movie coming out on my birthday weekend because I will be in the theater for this movie. Jackass five at number ten. At number nine, you know I love me a good animated movie. Super Mario probably a top five video game for me of all time, and the Super Mario Galaxy movie is coming out on April third of this year and Mario is going into space. I loved the Super Mario Galaxy game. It reminds me of a very pivotal time in my life which I had a wi. I remember they came out in two thousand and six, and probably at least to me during that time, when I was fifteen years old, it felt like it was an impossible task to get a Wii. And I remember I had a cousin who worked at Walmart, and he would tell my mom whenever they would get new shipments of weas in. This is how it was back in the day. And I know we've had similar things like this now with the PS five, at least whenever there was a chip shortage or whenever a console first launches. But I think we're a lot better now as far as supplying demand when it comes to video game consoles. But back in the day, when the Wei for came out in two thousand and six, at least for me, it was so hard to get one. So our cousin who worked at Walmart would let us know any time a shipment came in. He couldn't hold one for us, but he could tell us as soon as they were in stock, And this was long before ordering things on the internet or proven things was an option, So I remember it was probably a year, so maybe in two thousand and six, maybe even not un till two thousand and eight did I get my first Wii. But one of those games I got was Super Mario Galaxy, and that was after graduated high school, because I remember being in college and coming home and sitting in my dark room, turning up the AC and just getting lost in this game. Because obviously I grew up playing Super Mario. But Super Mario Galaxy is such a different game because it mixes elements of those early Mario games and mixes a little bit of Mario on N sixty four and gives you this entirely different way to play with this character. And I cannot wait to see how that translates into the big screen. Because now you have these big cosmic colors. You have Princess Peach returning Mario in Luigi and now Princess Daisy, who is a cosmic princess. You have Bowser who is now kind of reformed trying to be a good guy, but his son, Bowser Junior, is coming to bail him out and he is the new threat. I also love how improved the animation looks in this one, just from the trailer alone. It is from the studio illumination that also does the Minions movies so top tier animation. I think when it comes to illumination movies, they don't get enough credit for how innovative they are in their techniques for filmmaking and making each one better. Where if you look at some of the Disney movies in the last five years, it kind of all just starts to look the exact same, where it's not really refreshing to your eyes. It doesn't feel new. It just feels like the same thing over and over again with slightly different character designs. Illumination, on the other hand, gives you these vastly different worlds with every movie and every title that come out with and the Super Mario Galaxy Movie specifically looks like a great improvement. So I am hyped for it, as you can tell, thirty four year old man so excited for a family friendly movie. But that is how much I love this video game and want to see it done justice. So at number nine I have the Super Mario Galaxy Movie coming out on April third. At number eight, I have The Social Reckoning, which is the follow up to the Social Network, which was the Facebook movie that took everybody by surprise. Because when this movie first came out, everybody was like, why are they making a stupid Facebook movie? What is next? The LinkedIn movie? But it is coming out on October ninth. It is about a different controversy involving a Wall Street Journal reporter and a young Facebook engineer who was a whistleblower on Facebook about some of the data leaks and shady things that happened. And I believe the twenty tens there were some trials in like the twenty twenties, but that is what this movie is focusing on. Jesse Eisenberg is not returning as Mark Zuckerberg. Instead, it is Jeremy Strong, you may know from Succession. Mikey Madison is also in this movie. Who if you watched Honora, she was the lead in that and Jeremy Allen White is also a part of this cast. It is from director and writer Aaron Sorkin, who also did the first movie. And I think what took us all by surprise with the social network was how great of a story it was. It wasn't a story just about the creation of Facebook and very bubbly and fresh. It was just a very intense drama with some of the best acting of the twenty tens. One of my favorite scenes of all time in movies is the scene where Andrew Garfield's character goes to confront Jesse Eisenberg, who is Mark Zuckerberg in the movie, at the headquarters of Facebook, and Mark Zuckerberg is sitting there on his laptop and what they call the wired in position wherever he has his headphones on and he's doing some coding, totally locked in. Whenever somebody is wired in in the movie, you can't mess with them, you can't talk to them because they are so focused and zoned into their work. And then Andrew Garfield comes in super angry because he basically gets kicked out of Facebook and screwed over by Mark Zuckerberg, who Mark Zuckerberg in the movie is one of the best villains. He is such a jerk, he is so unlikable. And seeing Andrew Garfield just give this incredible performance, this just big speech filled with rage, smashing that laptop and yelling at Jesse Eisenberg was fantastic. So I want some more of that. Is it going to have the same impact as the first one? Probably not. And with the original director back with some good actors in the mix. I am excited for it. At number eight, I have The Social Reckoning coming out on October ninth. At number seven, I have Mandalorian and Grogu starring Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver coming out on May twenty second. I wonder if Sigourney Weaver could just go by Sigourney, much like Share, much like Reva, much like Rihanna. I don't know any other person, let alone in the entertainment industry named Sigourney. I would just drop the Weaver if I was her. I think, if you say Sigourney, you know who you were talking about, although I wouldn't even know how to spell Sigourney if it wasn't sitting in front of me, sig Oh you are any Why but Sigourney Weaver is in this movie, The Mandalorian. I love the TV show, and when I first saw the trailer to this, I wasn't as excited. But over the break we went to the movies and I saw it come on on the big screen, and that is when I got excited. Because when you just watch it on your laptop or your phone, it is really hard to make a distinction between it looking any different than just the TV show, So when watching it on my phone or on my laptop, it didn't really feel like anything special that warranted the big screen. But then when I saw it in theaters, it kind of gave me that same feeling that I did. I mean, it's been a while now since we've had a Star Wars movie. I think this will end the five year drought now, and it gave me that feeling because there really is nothing like seeing a Star Wars movie in theaters. Whether you love it, whether you hate it, it is an event. It brings out all different types of movie fans, young and old, grandma's and grandpas. Everybody loves a good Star Wars story. I really hope that they captured the same energy that they did in that first season of The Mandalorian. The characters were so much stronger and well defined, and of course Grogu was as cute and cuddly as can be. That is what everybody went crazy for whenever this show first came out. Everybody talked about baby Yoda, and they do focus a little bit too much on that in the trailer, But I am still hopeful that this will be another fantastic adventure in the Star Wars World, and I'm really hoping it just doesn't feel like a long episode of the show. But at number seven, I have Mandalorian and Grogu coming out early summer May twenty second. At number six, starring Ryan Gosling, I have Project hill Mary coming out on March twelfth. And I say this because in this studio right now, over to my right, I am looking at a bookshelf and staring back at me just with these evil eyes. Is my copy given to me by Kelsey of Project hill Mary that I said on this podcast I was going to start over the Christmas break. How many pages do you think I read of that book so far? Take a guess. If you answered zero, you would be correct. I haven't even cracked it open. I took it with me. It was in my backpack, burning a hole in my backpack. Over our trip to Texas. I did not open that book once. And there was one time after we got back that I was like, there's nothing really to watch. I watched every single movie. I don't feel like playing any switch right now. Let me crack open this book. I still did not crack that book o, but I am determined now that it is what almost three months still away March twentieth, I still have time, and it is a beef of your book, so I really wish I would have started reading it earlier, because the first step to anything to success is just getting started. Whether it's working out, whether it's finishing a book, all you have to do is start. But the book and the movie are about an astronaut who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. Earth is facing a catastrophic threat, so he has to piece together what his mission is and he uses some unexpected allies, which I think the trailer might have spoiled some things from the book, so I won't even mention it now because I don't want to spoil it to myself. But essentially he is trying to save the world, so I will mark my words. I will start and finish this book by March twentieth. But that is why I have Project Mary at number six to really hold me accountable, because I know I'm gonna feel so excited after I read the book, and I feel so proud of myself, and then I get that privilege that only smart people get of reading the book and going to see the movie, and I cannot wait to do that review after and say, man, the book was so much better than the movie. I'm finally gonna be that guy. But that's what I have at number six, getting into the top five. Now I have at number five Disclosure Day from director Steven Spielberg. It stars Emily Blunt. It is coming out this summer on June twelfth. It is a Steven Spielberg UFO slash alien movie. It is about Emily Blunt's character who works as a news anchor in Kansas City, and then you have some other couple people in the mix two. But it's all about the humans in the movie grappling with mysterious alien events and the overwhelming weight of this new reality that aliens exist. So there aren't too many other details about the Plump other than we find out aliens are real and everybody starts freaking out. I love Steven Spielberg, obviously. He is such a great director that I feel unfairly does not get talked about enough, at least in the film bro community, who dominates TikTok and YouTube about the greatest directors of all time, because I think he's put out so many amazing movies over our lifetime just consistently that it almost feels like he is in this goaded position that you feel kind of like a poser. If you say Steven Spielberg is your favorite director. But if you think about Jaws, if you think about Jurassic Park, if you think about et he is responsible for so many movies that have sparked so many fandoms and films that feel so much larger than life than we realize. He is literally a living legend. And when it comes to I mean even talk about War of the World, when you talk about his alien movies, or obviously going back to Close Encounters of the Third Kind back in nineteen seventy seven, the list goes on and on of movies he has put out that are just banger after banger. But when it comes to a movie, I've been craving recently with all the things we've learned in the last few years about aliens and the idea kind of being soft launched to us where it's not as crazy as it was back in the nineties, even back in the early two thousands, where I was fully into all the conspiracy theories about aliens. Now I feel like the idea of aliens existing isn't as crazy to us as we realize more and more how much we are just little pebbles on a floating rock in the grand scheme of all these things. That I have been craving a movie like this, and I hope it is my new favorite alien movie since Signs. Whenever Signs came out back in the two thousands, that movie blew my mind. It scared the crap out of me out of the first alien reveal, and I'm hoping Disclosure Day builds that same kind of tension. Who I think Steven Spielberg is the king of that, and he created this method where you don't show the monster really until the very end. You give the audience little glimpses of it here and there. And obviously he first did this with Jaws, where it was greatly due to trying to save money, because he didn't have time or money to show Jaws the entire time, so instead you build all the suspense around that character. Sometimes not seeing the monster is scarier than actually seeing it when you think about it, you don't realize it why you're watching it, But building the music that dun nun donna, seeing somebody get killed, seeing just the blood from it, but you don't actually see Jaws in his full glory until the third act. And I think that is something that I have learned from watching Steven spielberg movies and how other directors who have been inspired by his work as well create a good monster movie. So hopefully that is what we get in Disclosure Day, where we get that same kind of moment we had in Science even though he didn't do Signs. That is just one of my favorite examples of an alien reveal where you don't see them for a while, but when you do, it is so impactful and it's gonna scare the crap out of you. So I love Steven Spielberg. Emily Blunt just happens to be a lot of things right now. I think she is a good actor. I wouldn't put her as one of my favorite actors, but she has a great agent because she gets into a lot of big movies right now. So I am excited for this. At number five, I have Disclosure Day coming out on June twelfth. At number four from director Christopher Nolan, I have The Odyssey. It is coming out this summer on July seventeenth. Matt Damon plays Odysseus and Tom Holland plays his son, but essentially Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek tale. The movie follows Odysseus's long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War. He takes on mythical foes such as Cyclops and sirens, and he strives to return to his wife Penelope and his son and a sweeping emotional adventure. It looks like it's gonna be quite the cinematic achievement because The Odyssey is the first major movie ever shot entirely on Imax seventy millimeter film cameras, which means this movie is going to look massive. Oppenheimer, which I also saw in seventy milimeter Imax at one of the only maybe ten theaters that showed it that way in the United States, just happens to be here in Nashville. That movie was still not shot entirely on that film, which, when you start talking about film sizes, it basically means how much information can be put on the big screen. So seventy milimeter Imax is like the most amount of information you could put into a single frame. So when that gets blasted onto a major screen. It still looks super rich and vibrant and colorful, so it's the best looking movie you can get because it's so expensive to do. The film reels alone to these movies are massive, and it takes up essentially an entire room. It is so heavy and difficult to transport. So that is why you very rarely see this happen unless it's somebody like Christopher Nolan who has that type of pool to spend that amount of money to film a movie like this on film. That is why I have The Odyssey at number four coming out on July seventeenth, getting into the top three now at number three, I have Toy Story five coming out on June nineteenth. An odd thing I did over the Christmas break, I rewatched all four Toy Story movies because we went home and my sister has Disney Channel, which I've not sat down to watch Disney Channel in a really long time. And maybe it's just because it was Christmas break, but Disney Channel just replaces a lot of Disney movies and they're just like, this is a general audience movie, and then they start another one. But Toy Story four started and I had not watched this movie since it came out in theaters. So I sat down and I watched All a Toy Story four, and then for some reason after that one. I don't know why, I ended up watching them all in reverse order, but after I watched four, I was like, I gotta go back and watch three. So I watched it at home on Disney Plus. And when I watched three, I was like, well, I might as well watch two, and then I went back and watched one. So it was an interesting way to watch them. I don't think I would really recommend it, because you see the animation get worse coming backwards, but it did make me feel different about four in the sense that man Woody is annoying. It is really hard to root for Woody in four, where he kind of becomes obsessed with this idea of still being hung up on Andy. He cannot move past Andy, even though he is now living with Bonnie. It still is just so traumatic to him and keeping everybody together, keeping the status quo. It's like, Woody, just move on, dude. You're a toy. You have to accept that. You have to try to find some happiness somewhere instead of trying to control everything. I think I just got a little bit frushra with his character and watching them in reverse order, seeing that his character developed in the opposite way. Where in the first one, I love Woody because he's kind of a jerk. He is so imperfect in Toy Story one because he is jealous of Buzz, and I love a jealous Woody. He is insulting, He straight up assalts Buzz. He manipulates all the other toys. I love seeing a flawed Woody, And whenever he becomes a little bit too boy scout and trying to be the leader and trying to be the dad slash mom of the group, he gets a little bit more annoying from really from three to four. In two, he is so worried about being abandoned he gets shelved after his arm rips, and then with three again he is worried about not being around all the other toys. They mistakenly get put out on the curb as trash. I also have a different perspective on Andy, and I know I have to kind of suspend disbelief because I try to put myself in that situation of I did not keep any of the same toys from my childhood all the way up to eighteen, and if I was eighteen thinking about taking my toys to college, I started to feel different ways about Andy two. But all this to say, rewatching all of the Toy Story movies has me that excited for Toy Story five. And even though I said I think Toy Story should have just been a trilogy, it is to me one through three that is the franchise. Everything else is just bonus. I don't consider it canon. I consider it all a big cash grab. I just have to know what happens to these characters and how they are going to make Toy Story five work, which if you haven't seen Toy Story four, they are going to have to explain a lot because in five, what it's all about is their owner, Bonnie, who is who Andy gave his toys. Two. At the end of Toy Story three, gets a new toy, except it's not a toy, it's a lily pad, so it's supposed to be at least I hope it really dives into how kids don't really play with toys anymore, which is crazy. I feel like kids don't play with toys as much as they used to. They much rather have a tablet, which was crazy because Kelsey and I every single year we adopt a couple of angels and we buy them gifts and we always look at their once and selfishly, I always go through and try to find kids who have similar interest that I did when I was a kid. So if they like Pokemon, if they like Spider Man or Dragon ball Z, I'm going to pick that kid selfishly because I know I can go find things that I would have loved as a kid that I think they would love. But when you started to look at all the top once to all these kids, tablet, tablet, tablet, I'm like, man, where's the Pokemon cars? Where are the power Rangers? Where are the scooters and the skateboards? Well, I guess kids now want electric scooters, but that was crazy to me to see that all these kids, even younger kids, just want tablet. So I think this movie is perfectly timed with addressing a real life issue. And as long as they continue to make toy story movies, I will still watch them. But for me, the movies that define my generation and the movies I will recognize as the true toy story movies will always be one through three. Everything now is just extra. At number two, I'm gonna go with Supergirl, which will feature the return of Crypto and Millie Alcock as Supergirl. She is twenty three years old. She is the complete opposite of Superman as far as her view is on the world. She is much more cynical. She is very chaotic and messy. It looks like a lot of the same energy that we got in Superman, but instead a fun, little bit more Guardians of the Galaxy type version. Even though James Gunn is not directing this movie, so really excited about it. I think this will be a great year for superhero movies because at number one, I have a two way tie I could not decide, and number one I have both Avengers Doomsday and Spider Man Brand New Day. Doomsday is coming out on December eighteenth, and Spider Man Brand New Day is coming out on July thirty first. I am obviously a huge Spider Man fan. I have a Spider Man tattoo on my right arm that my mom I think saw for the first time and when I was home for Christmas, and she wasn't that surprised by it. She was like, Yeah, when you were a kid, you would just go around shooting website like Spider Man. I was like, yeah, my fandom started from a very young age. So that made me feel even better about getting a tattoo, because the thing they don't tell you is how crazy permanent it feels. Obviously it sounds dumb to say, but you have this realization right after you get a tattoo of like, oh man, this thing is good to be on me forever. I'm glad I picked something I've liked for a very long time. So her telling me that reminded me like, oh yeah, I have love dim since I was a kid. Nothing is going to change, but Spider Man has always been my number one favorite superhero. In my top five superheroes, it's spider Man, Batman, the Incredible Hulk, Wolverine, and number five changes from time to time. In the movies, it is iron Man, but I think in the comics and just overall now I think it is Cyclops. And that is why Tied at number one is Avengers Doomsday coming out on December eighteenth, and I haven't talked about the teaser trailers that have come out that I first saw when everybody went to go see Avatar, we saw the Captain America one that let us know that Steve Rogers is returning. Captain America appears to have a baby. Now that's really all. That was him driving up in a motorcycle, and then you see his shield, you see his suit, and then you see him holding a baby. There was a really funny parody somebody did that made it look like a medication commercial. They did like the voiceover. They put the name of the medication in all the disclaimers and it kind of fit. I don't really feel like just telling us that somebody is returning is promotion enough. I think that is very twenty tens MCU. We need to evolve that a little bit. But that had been pretty much the case for all these teaser trailers, and I wanted to wait for the first official trailer, which we should get during the Super Bowl, to fully include it in the trailer park. But since it is here tied at number one, am I most anticipated. I'll mention that one the thor one pretty straightforward. He has a kid that he's taking care of now too. After Thor Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth is bag. He looks as ripped up as ever, not as much excitement there because we just saw Thor pretty recently in at least a couple of movies, as far as his own solo movie, and then he also had a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine. But the teaser that did get me really excited that has been the best so far for Doomsday was that the X Men are going to be in Doomsday. But not only that, because you see Professor X and you see Magneto, who now looks a lot older. That didn't make me a little bit emotional. But the big standout of that teaser he got James Marsden back as Cyclops. But not only that, they got him out of that awful leather suit that all the X Men had in the two thousands that just looked awful. It just made them look so bland. I get there was probably a fascination with black leather after the Matrix during that time, and they didn't want it to look like the comic book version of the X Men then because people would have seen it as cheesy, So they had to make them look cool, and they put them all on leather, and I think worked at the time, but now I just wish they would have looked different much in this teaser, we have James Marsden in a comic accurate cyclops suit, the blue and the yellow, and you see him erupt with this optic blast that had me so excited, And that was the first time from any of this material that I've been this excited that it hopped all the way up to one. So I couldn't pick which one to put it one, so I just put them both here. It's my list, my rules. But I think those movies are going to be my favorite of the year no matter what, because I just love both of those franchises. I rewatch the Avengers movies at least once a year. I also rewatch all the Spider Man movies, not just the Tom Holland ones, but all of them at least once a year. So I'm getting two movies to add to my repertoire of movies that I rewatch all the time that become a part of me. It's like having a child. These movies are going to live with me forever. I couldn't pick between the two, but I am excited that they do kind of split the year, Spider Man coming out on July thirty first, and then Doomsday not coming out until December eighteenth, so it's like, Okay, I can go these seven months, get my Spider Man, live off the high of that, and then get really ramped up for December eighteenth release. So those are my top ten most anticipated movies of twenty twenty six. I will run through all the other big movies coming out this year. My honorable mentions include Michael, which is coming out on April twenty fourth, but it's supposed to be over three hours long. There was even a cut of this that was almost four hours. There was talk of splitting this movie up into two movies, which I think would be a terrible idea. So I have a little bit of hesitation, but that doesn't mean it takes away from my anticipation of wanting to go see this movie in theaters and see how the final product turns out. Michael coming out on April twenty fourth, The Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping coming out on November twentieth. Street Fighter is coming out on October sixteenth. That movie looks like it could be terrible, but it could just be a lot of fun. The cast has me a little bit worried because there are some people in there. I'm like Okay, why did you even put this person in this movie? So I think that'll just be I want to know how bad it is going to be, but it has the potential to be kind of a sleeper hit. We have Resident Evil coming out on September eighteenth from Weapons director Zach Craiger. I want to see how he follows up that movie, and then I'll go through the rest as far as when they are going to come out earliest at the end of this week. Already we get twenty eight years later, The Bone Temple. On January sixteenth. We have The Moment starring Charlie XCX. On January thirtieth. We have Goat, which is the animated movie coming to us from NBA champion Steph Curry, coming out on February thirteenth, from the same studio that did K Pop Demon Hunters. We have Scream seven coming out on February twenty seventh. If it doesn't have Melissa Barrera in it, if it doesn't have Jenna Ortega, I am less interested in it. But because it is a part of the Scream franchise, I will check it out. Nev Campbell isn't it, but she was also at five, so I don't know why they are making a big deal about that. We have the Pixar movie Hoppers coming out on March sixth. Nate Bargatezi has a movie coming out on March thirteenth called The bread Winner. The trailer for that really looks like he's trying to revive two thousand's family comedies. I just don't know if that could work. It could be a nice little trip in nostalgia, even though it is a new movie. But I don't know if you're not Adam Sandler know if you can pull that off. We have the drama coming out on April third. It's that Robert Pattinson and Zendia romantic comedy. The Devil Wears prad is coming out on May first. Mortal Kombat two is coming out on May fifteenth. Masters of the Universe is coming out on June fifth. I would be so much more excited for this if Jared Leto was not playing skeletor anything he is in. I just assume is going to be bad. Scary Movie six is coming out on June twelfth. I feel like parody movies are kind of having a slow comeback. With a naked gun last year, I think we could be in a place where we need a good parody movie like scary movie six Mega Minions, which is Minions three, coming out on July first. The live action Mawana movie is coming out on July tenth. Not excited about that. Coyote Versus Acme, which was the movie that got canceled and then brought back to life, is coming out on August twenty eighth. DC's clay Face is coming out on September eleventh. Practic to Go Magic two is coming out on September eighteenth. Digger starring Tom Cruise, which looks kind of bizarre. I don't really know entirely what it's about. The trailer really said nothing, but it's kind of nice to see Tom Cruise not doing a movie where he is just running in the trailer. That's coming out on October second. Meet the Parents four Fokker in Law is coming out on November twenty fifth. Narnia the Magician's Nephew from director Greta Gerwig, who also did Barbie, is coming out on November twenty sixth. We have a Jumanji sequel on December eleventh. Basically, The Rock just needs to make a little bit of Money Again June Part three did not make my top ten list, not even an honorable mention. I will go see it, but I'm just not that excited for it. That's coming out on December eighteenth. That is the list. I'll come back and give my spoiler free review of Primate. Let's get into it now. A spoiler free movie review of Primeate. It is about a family who has a pet monkey named Ben. You have the main character, Lucy, who is coming home, has been away for quite some time. Some of her family kind of resents her for it, but she's coming back home bringing some of her friends and they're all gonna hang out in this really nice house. This is always a problem I have with horror movies is I didn't fear them a lot as a kid because I lived in a trailer and I always thought, man, this can never happen to me, because if anything crazy went down here, there wouldn't be enough room for anybody to run around. So I always found comfort in that, even though it was broke, we didn't have our own bedrooms. I slept on the floor until I think I was maybe fourteen years old. I was like the only thing I can find satisfaction is there will never be a situation where any events that go down in a horror movie can happen in this trailer, because anytime you watch one of these movies, they always have a sick house, and in Primate, I think is one of the sickest houses I have seen in a horror movie. I don't know, maybe I'm doing real estate right now because we've been looking for a place to live. But you have this awesome house all the way throughout that Ben has all these rope ladders that he can go up and down, because essentially this movie is Kujo, but instead of a dog, it is a primate, and he has all these things where he can climb around. He has this iPad that he can press buttons and communicate with the family. He has been a beloved member of their family for a very long time. But you have this amazing view and at the very bottom there is this pool, which by the way, Ben cannot swim. I feel like he resents the rest of the family for that because they're always hanging out in this pool. And the house essentially sits at the bottom of these two clips that you're completely isolated. The perfect setting for a horror movie. But something happens to Ben, leading all the family to think there is something wrong with Ben, which is what they said in the trailer, and what my favorite quote of the entire movie is, there is something wrong with Ben. Of course there's something wrong with Ben. He gets rabies and he starts killing people. So now you have Lucy, her sister, and all of her friends trying to escape Ben, except they are stuck in this house because Ben is not going to let them go. That is the situation. So again like Kujo, when the mom and the daughter are stuck in the car, they can't get out of it, the exact same way, except they are in this luxurious house. The thing that really stuck out to me about Primate was its commitment to violence. I think that was the most satisfying part. Is they did not steer away from making the kills very gruesome. If it wouldn't have been for that, I wouldn't have found this movie as entertaining. Because when all of Ben's victims die, it is very satisfying as somebody who likes to watch gruesome horror movie deaths. They went for it, and sometimes they made me a little bit uncomfortable because they are very harsh and bloody. If it didn't have that level of violence, in that level of gruesomeness, this would have been just the generic horror movie, because I think the real selling point was the fact that it was this monkey that gets rabies and starts killing people. Because when it came to the story, it was garbage. It was trash. There was no real connection that I felt that they had to Ben, because it really is all of a sudden, she is back home, and they don't really do a whole lot of explaining or connection between why they feel like he is so much a part of the family. If they would have had a little bit more of that, which again, this movie is under ninety minutes. I think it was like an hour and twenty three minutes. They didn't really have time to get to that, but they spent about thirty minutes just focusing on the drama between all the friends and the family that never really let anywhere. They should have focused more on why Ben feels like a part of the family. Therefore, whenever he switches, they have a little bit more of a dilemma of oh, man, here's this person who has been a part of our family. He feels like a brother to us, but now we have to escape him and he's trying to kill us. I never really felt that connection. So while the movie won me a little bit over with the violence, the story was really harsh and the acting, oh, the acting was brutal. It kind of felt like I was watching the CW Show. But even the way they reacted to Bennett times was really infuriating. This is one of those horror movies that if you go watch it in theaters or even if you watch it at home, you were going to be so upset at these characters. And some people like that type of horror movie where you're like, why are you doing that, you idiot? You should be doing the complete opposite, or also just how can you be that dumb? The characters felt so dumb and infuriating that at times I was yelling at the screen, not because I was enjoying it, but because I was like, you guys are so dumb. So I think at times I was rooting for the monkey more than I was for the humans. The cool thing about the making of this movie is there is actually somebody inside of the monkey suit, and depending on how you feel of your ability to overlook some scenes where you can clearly tell that there is a human inside of that monkey costume. It may lead to you enjoying or not enjoying this movie because at times the mask does look a little bit fake. And I'm somebody who has been a proponent of practical effects, but at times it was very clear to me that it was a dude wearing a monkey mask, especially in some of the action sequences where he has to move quickly or run. But there is a human performer inside a band Shout out to Miguel taurus Umba, who was an actor and a performer and a movement specialist, which I hadn't heard of until researching some things of this movie. But he is inside of that suit and he gets down low does a really good job at portraying the monkey. So I think out of anybody in this movie, he had the best performance because he really sold me on the movements. It wasn't his fault what the costume looked like. So I think those practical effects go a long way, and you can tell the actors are actually interacting with somebody instead of just interacting with the person in a green suit that they're going to completely change in post production, they are actually getting into confrontations with Ben. They are struggling with Ben, and I think that at least adds to the performances when it came to some of the fights and some of the kill scenes. So I'm glad that they did that, But there are times where you're gonna be watching it and think, man, this looks a little bit low budget. And the other thing this movie made me think about who was inspired by real events, because in two thousand and nine, there was this woman who got attacked by your friend's chimpanzee. The woman was named Charlotte Nash and it was a friends chimp named Travis, and Travis was familiar with Charlote. He knew Charla. But one of the things that they pointed out in primate was there as a moment that one of the characters is a stranger to Ben and he gets a little bit aggressive towards her, and the owner of Ben said, Hey, he doesn't really do well with strangers. He doesn't recognize you. He might kind of act a little bit weird, but I promise you he is a good chimp. In the real life case of Charlat and Travis in two thousand and nine, kind of the same thing happened. They were trying to get Track back into the house, and Charlotte was trying to lure him in with his toy Elmo doll because the chimp, Travis knew Charla knew his Elmo doll. They were just trying to get him into the house. He had taken his owner's car keys, which is another parallel between this real life case and the movie Primate. But Charlotte looked a little bit different than what Travis remembered her to look like. I think her hair had changed a little bit, and there was just something that he did not recognize about her, so that's why he attacked her. Travis, the chimpanzee tore off her hands, tore off her face, leaving her incredibly disfigured, also left her blonde. She ended up recovering from her injuries and then in twenty eleven had a full facial transplant, which was a crazy story, and she did go on to be an advocate on why these animals should not be kept as pets. So this movie wasn't really inspired by that traumatic event, but while watching it, that was immediately what came to mind, and I just had to find the parallels between that real life story and this fictional story. But this movie did win me over a little bit in the third act, and overall it was exactly what I thought it was going to be. And I know that sounds a little bit like an insult. The trailer really told me all I needed to know. And it is still the month of January, which is dump month at the box office, where essentially all the studios are putting out movies that they don't think would perform well anywhere else because we're coming off the holiday season. On TV, you have a lot of things to watch right now with all the playoffs going on, so this is usually where they put a horror movie like this that maybe, just maybe could find its audience have a little bit of success. But overall, putting out a movie in January means you don't really believe in it, so I think because I had about a medium level of expectation going into it, and by the end of it, it gave me what I wanted. Even though in those first thirty minutes I was like, this is getting bad. I saw some people getting a little bit restless in the theater, but by the end of it, I was like, this was kind of awesome but also kind of terrible. So for primate, I give it three out of five bananas. God to head down to movie Mike trailer parr. If there's one thing the Internet is going to do, it's going to be get upset about the way somebody looks in a biopic. Anytime one of these comes out, people have so many thoughts on this person looks nothing like them, And for the first time, I kind of agree with them because I really don't care how much they look like them. To me, it matters more how much they embody their spirit. But when it comes to Nicholas Cage as John Madden in the John Madden Movie, he looks nothing like him. He has prosthetics, he did not gain weight for the role. He has a fat suit on instead of going that extra step. There was no way he was going to look like him. You never look at Nick Cage and think, man, you know who he could play somebody in the movie John Madden. And for the first time I'm looking at this trailer, I'm like, it kind of looks like a parody. And I think that is a hard part of making the John Madden movie is because he has been parodied in things for so long. I mean, I think of Frank Caliendo doing John Madden sometimes and I remember the actual John Madden. So I feel like this bio pick is going to have a little bit of a different tone to it, and I think that's a good thing because I think overall the genre is a bit stale right now. We've had so many biopicks that it just gets kind of annoying that I'm surprised and excited because it does feel a little bit refreshing that it's not a serious take on his life. It is inspired by a true story, which is a major difference, meaning it's probably not going to stick to all of the facts be completely accurate, but it's going to be a bit of a more fun story and take on his life. You also have Christian Bale playing Al Davis, who was the owner of the Raiders. This movie is coming out this year on Thanksgiving on Amazon Prime. Before I get into more or here is just a little bit of the Madden trailer. There's only one John Madden. They didn't make another one. He is one of a kun. Football wouldn't be football without him. I have no idea where we are, who we are, where we're coming from, or who we're throwing through.

So this movie is going to be about his story, specifically on his nineteen seventy seven Super Bowl win and then him shifting from coaching into the broadcast booth, as well as how he got into the video game industry. Why I think it is time for a biopick like this? I do think, like I mentioned earlier, the genre is so stale. Well we get biopicks now they are painting these larger than life characters in a way that really glamorizes them. This one already feels different to me. One just because Nicholas Cage looks a little bit Calmon Goal playing Madden. But then you have Christian Bale, who is a fantastic actor who really in just this short clip really embonnies Al Davis. But I think this is what the genre needs to do in order to get people to care. And why are biopicks so attractive to studios? It's an easy thing. They already have a built in audience. So whenever a studio is banking and investing money in a movie, they want to make sure right now that there is a fan base for it. There is a demand for it. That's why we see so many sequels and prequels and spinoffs. Biopicks still fall in that category because John matt and the person. While it's not a brand like Marvel or a Spider Man or Superman, that type of IP or Harry Potter, it is different because he is a historical and a public figure who already has a built in fan base, not just from him as a person, but also from the video game, which I think is what I'm probably more interested in when it comes to this biopick. I played that all the time. Madd In two thousand and seven to me was the best Madden of all time, had the greatest soundtrack. I played that game so much that there are songs like Cartel's Say Anything Else that I will hear out randomly and it instantly takes me back to playing Madden seven. And John mulaney in this movie is going to play Trip Hopkins, who was the person responsible for signing John Madden to be a spokesperson and consultant for the game company and the first video game, John Madden Football, came out back in nineteen eighty eight, and at that time there were football video games, but they were very dumb down versions of what Madden wanted in a video game because they were not even eleven man rosters. They were just super simplified and really easy because they wanted to make it appealing to people who didn't know anything about football and didn't want to overcomplicate it. But when they went to John Madden, he said, I don't want to do that. I want to make a game that is so accurate that focuses on the plays and strategy, to show people the mechanics of what it's like to call plays and design a game that embody that experience, so you, by playing this video game, start to learn about what it takes to be a coach, essentially, so much so that so many people play Madden at home will turn their attention to watching football on Sunday and think, man, I could coach that. All I have to do is do what I do with Madden, and I can win this game. It is not that easy, but in some regard you do learn some of the basics, and that was a big part of what John Madden wanted to do. He wanted to bring in those things that seemed a little bit complicated but knew that it would be worth it in the end to make it as realistic as possible, and that is the Madden game we know today. I mean, he even gave EA Sports his playbook and his strategies so they could build it into the game. So I think that is really cool, and they still crank out those games after every single year. I probably haven't purchased my a Madden game in three years now, maybe even four or five. The last five years kind of led together. But if I could go back and just play one Madden game for the rest of my life, it would be Madden two thousand and seven had the best soundtrack of all time and the best mini camp mode. In this supporting cast, you also have Catherine Hahn as John Madden's wife, Virginia Madden, and like I mentioned earlier, John Mullaney is going to play Trip Hopkins, who is the guy at EA Sports that brought John Madden in And I could just imagine John Mullaney in this movie. Hey John, I got this idea for a video game, and I need JET help. I hope at some point John Mullaney and Christian Bale cross pass, mainly because I want John Mullaney to take whatever experience that is because I have to imagine that Christian Bale on set is just a very intense presence. And that doesn't mean I think he's mean or a jerk. I just have to imagine when you go onto a set with Christian Bale, that is something he takes very seriously. When he is there, I imagine he is so in the zone there to work. He only wants to work with the most professional of professionals. And John Mulaney, who is a professional, really good comedian, has stepped into acting a little bit. I just have to imagine that is such an interesting dynamic between them two. He seems like he would not want to make any mistake around Christian Bale, and I wonder how Christian Bale's intensity is, especially with the character like Al Davis, is around a more comedic person like John Mulaney. You also have Shane Gillis in the cast, so again, I feel like this film is going to have a lot of comedy, which I think is something that people might not know they wanted from this movie. And I don't think Nicholas Cage is going to go too over the top as far as try to make John Madden seem like a big comical character, but there are moments in the trailer where he does feel very John Candy, So maybe he was channeling a little bit of Madden, a little bit of John Candy. But I just feel like Nicholas Cage is an actor who is a wild card. You never know what type of role he is going to take on next. And while he doesn't entirely look like John Madden, I am ready to go on this ride. But Madden is coming out at the end of this year, which is wild to get a trailer so early on in the year where we basically have to wait eleven months for it. But it's coming out Thanksgiving twenty twenty six on Amazon Prime. And that goes this week's edition of Movie Mike Trailer Bars, and that is going to do it for another episode here of the podcast. This week, I'm going over to my Instagram dms and shouting out to Jenny who asked me a question after I reposted the Avengers teaser that we were talking about earlier with Cyclops and the X Men, and she asked, do I have to watch the X Men to get Avengers Doomsday. I have watched most of the Avengers movies and the Marvel movies, but do I need to go back and rewatch the original X Men? Jenny, thank you for this question, because I think it is one I get often every time a new Marvel movie comes out. I really don't think you need to do that anymore. The only time you really need to watch every single Marvel movie is if it's in a phase, and right now we are in Phase six that kicked off last year with a fantastic four First Steps, and then this year, on the thirty first that we talked about earlier, you get Spider Man Brand New Day and Avengers dooms Day is going to be the third movie in this phase. I think if you only watch phase by phase, that is really all you need to know. And I think they've done a better job at making a lot of these stories a little bit more self contained, and they're gonna reference some things here and there, but it's not gonna leave you completely lost. And if you go into Avengers Doomsday even without seeing those first two films in this phase, I do think that you're going to be completely lost. As far as maybe the first ten minutes of the movie, but I think they've gotten to a point where they know everybody is not watching everything. Whenever all the shows were coming out on Disney Plus and those things were connecting, I think they realized that people got annoyed with that and they weren't watching everything, and therefore it was confusing when you'd go to the theater and you feel penalized because you didn't watch something at home on Disney Plus. It felt like a little bit too much. I think in order to answer your question here, Jenny, you don't really need to go back and watch The x Men, as far as you need to watch that in order to understand Doomsday, but I think the weight of the characters returning in Doomsday will not have any effect on you, which to me, James Marsen returning after twenty years is a big deal to me. But you also can't go back and build that anticipation. I think, really now it comes down to how hardcore of a fan do you want to be where you don't necessarily need to watch everything to understand it, but you do need to watch everything in order to feel it, because when you go through all these things, in real time, and you spend all these years inside of this franchise, jumping with all these characters, that is when you feel it more.

Speaker 1: I think they do these things to be a real service to the fans. But I think strictly as a viewer of the movie, you don't need to do all the homework anymore in order to understand it, especially with you have already watched all the Avengers movies your set, because really you could just watch all the Avengers movies together, and I feel like that would be a continuous story. Enough. Will you get every single reference? No, but you're not going to be thirty minutes into the movie thinking what is happening? I have no idea. That is just not how these movies work. That's not really how any movie works unless you don't pay attention and you're on your phone the entire time. So if you really want to go back and watch I would say the first three X Men movies, I would say watch them just because they aren't great and I love those characters, but you don't need to to understand. If you want to be super informed going into Doomsday, I would say, as long as you watch Fantastic Four, you will understand what is happening, and then Spider Man when it comes out in July. Aside from that, I think you'd be good because Thunderbolts was really the ending to not only Phase five, but a lot of what they were trying that didn't really work out, going all the way back to Black Widow, Shang Chi Eternals, Spider Man, No Way Home, Doctor Strange, in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor Love and Thunder, Black Panther, Waconda Forever, which to me is kind of adjacent from everything that kind of stands alone Quantum Mania. They're not going to bring anything out of that. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume three, also in Phase five. Those movies exist to me in their own world really, even though they connect. But I feel like that is just a solid trilogy on its own. The Marvels, you don't need to watch that Dead Wolverine. While it is a fun and a big movie inside of the MCU, I don't really feel like it connects much. Deadpoole does have some connection to the X Men, obviously, but there wasn't a whole lot of plot development or world building as far as the MCU as a whole. In that movie, so unless you just want to watch it for pure enjoyment, I don't think a whole lot is going to carry over, aside from Wolverine himself, Captain America, Brave New World, even if that movie connected, if you don't need to watch that one and Thunderbolts. I really enjoyed it, and I think the Thunderbolts obviously are going to return in Doomsday, and they are billed as the new Avengers. So while not entirely necessary, if you watch Fantastic Four and just want to go back a movie before that, go with the Thunderbolts. But aside from that, you are good. I think we are starting fresh, especially with DC right now restarting the entire thing, and they're gonna feel more at competition that they ever have the fight between DC and Marvel. I think they are moving on and let's reset this timeline.
