You gonna win one thousand dollars. Leading the host standings Kerry Rhoades and Andy Furman, who each made only one incorrect pick. I think I've made every incorrect pick. Nice. Visit Fox Sports Radio dot com to check the leader board. I was giving out my game balls like I was Ben Johnson. Three game balls, and I said, game ball number one goes to Kyle not Shanahan. Juice, Kyle. Check. The guy does everything you could possibly want, no you a player to do for your team. He blocks, he catches passes, he's tough, he is he's sort of an unsung hero. Yeah, and he stepped up when it mattered.

00:02:14
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:02:15
Speaker 2: Game ball number two, I said, Tom Brady's growing on us all. I like his reactions to big plays. I like how he showed us how to throw football into the wind. So when you're uh, you know, throwing the ball around with your kiddo, you could pass that Tom Brady fun fact along. And who doesn't love Tom Brady. A lot of people don't love Tom Brady. I love Tom Brad. I think he's great. So I enjoyed watching Tom Brady. Just give that little insight. Like I said, he mind's overly critical because he's a handsome devil. He really is. What a guy? What a guy. But really, when you look at his whole get up, look at his get up from this past weekend, look at his outfit, look at his face, look at his gloves, just look at the whole get up. Me like he is a super villain.

00:02:54
Speaker 3: Look at his guy in the week before the turtle Neck remember, yeah, yeah, yes, he should have taking Aaron Andrews out as his date and then they beat perfectly villains in her fur coat.

00:03:04
Speaker 2: Yeah she was. She was like a glamorous both of them. But props. Again, I'm not hating. I'm just stating he's great. Some people might have thought my third game ball was Aaron Andrews coat. So I'm glad you said that.

00:03:13
Speaker 1: Same. It's not It's not okay, damn.

00:03:16
Speaker 2: I really thought that the third MVP that gets a game ball from me over the weekend, that reporter in Jacksonville, Lynn Jones, you call her doctor Jones. I heard this and my first thought was, this is really sweet, sweet and nice. Come to find out what you think. Come to find out this controversy. If you don't know what we're talking about. After the game, Liam Cohens up there, obviously he's bummed out. You know, the Jacksonville Jacks in his rookie campaign were picked by many to maybe go the distance. The Jags were hot. They set it throughout the game. You know, whoever wins this game could win at all. Yea, and I believe that they were so close to winning, which me they really could have won it all. They had a really solid team and a solid season. Yeah. And you know what, I hope whoever wins that game, being the Bills now at least takes it and runs with it a little bit like you would hate to see the winner of that battle, you know, go down to Denver, which I you know, I hate to say this to. My brother is a Broncos fan. We have I have a lot of friends of the Broncos fans Man our buddy and Don likes the Broncos. I think they're that records at that bosses that love the brunch. I think the Bronco is fourteen and three is a little inflated. What do I know? But listen to Lynn Jones addressing Jaguars head coach Liam Cohen.

00:04:38
Speaker 4: Two, you congratulations on your success, young man. You hold your head up, all right. You guys have had a most magnificent season and you did a great job out there today.

00:04:47
Speaker 1: So you just hold your.

00:04:48
Speaker 4: Head up, okay, And ladies and gentlemen, douvall you don't one. All right, keep it going. We got another season, Okay. I appreciate, take care and much continued success to you and the entire team.

00:04:57
Speaker 2: Thank you. Man, How so sweet face lit up, you know because you can see how sad and defeated he me know. But here's the thing in a world. But you know, like if you could you could say, uh, you know what, I really love, uh really love some pizza and when my wife beep, and then there'll be one guy that's like, well, you know, I don't really like that. You like, there's someone that will be a contrarian for everything. I heard this woman speak to coach Duval and my first thought was this is beautiful? How could anyone have a problem with it? And then I go on social media it's a bunch of idiots, Like I was Sam that.

00:05:29
Speaker 4: Like, I don't know.

00:05:31
Speaker 2: What do you mean? Sam? You go out of you said, I don't know. You're trying to lure me in here? She said, I don't have the energy, But I disagree.

00:05:42
Speaker 3: Would you say about coach Doula? No, here, here's the deal. I just thought, maybe it went along a win a little too long. Maybe like she could have just stopped it, like at like ten seconds in like keeping in a world.

00:05:52
Speaker 1: Of going and going nice just to be nice.

00:05:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's not really her job to console the coach Like it's fine.

00:05:59
Speaker 2: But guess what, Sam, you know why no one cares about old reporters anymore?

00:06:03
Speaker 1: What do you think?

00:06:03
Speaker 2: Why do you think shows like ours are growing? Why do you think Pat McAfee's as big as he is? Why do you think barstool is what it is? Because people like their sports information in a different way.

00:06:13
Speaker 3: They don't, you mean, without like integrity or anything like Like the people that are giving us.

00:06:17
Speaker 2: Their information now shots fun. Sorry, I'd rather I mean, I mean.

00:06:22
Speaker 3: Old school news reporters more than what like they got mustang Twitter, Like Twitter is yeah really known for me truth and reality, I mean, truthfully, Sam, I'm getting my information from Pat McAfee's coward's vetted Sam.

00:06:37
Speaker 2: But there's nothing old kindness, dude. That's that's what we're talking about. The people that you probably a problem with it, but no one, no one cares. It was like your aunt. It was like your aunt patting in the back and said you had a nice game. Remember around Remember the show Around the Horn, of course, and they would have like random old school reporters on. Guess why that show's not on anymore? Well, it was on for like twenty six years. No one cares anymore. Okay.

00:06:58
Speaker 3: It's also I don't think people are watch afternoon programming on ESPN four.

00:07:02
Speaker 2: So Sam, do you know?

00:07:03
Speaker 5: Do you know?

00:07:04
Speaker 2: I mean Sam, you present like you're seventy five, but you're in your thirties. I am a mix of old soul and young man. You don't even have an Instagram PAGEO. So that's part of the old soul portion, he says, old soul. He wears Rockport shoes just so you know, old soul, heart soul.

00:07:18
Speaker 1: What a great double entendre. Actually do it own a pair of rock Ports.

00:07:23
Speaker 2: From Honestly, Sam, You're like, you're like making my point for me without even trying. Listen, no one cares about No one cares about traditional Samwar's Nike monarchs. No one cares about the traditional old reporter anymore. It's a stale game, like like like when I when you follow your local team, those old reporters, they no one care. I'm telling you. It's like people consume there's sports fun in a different way now, and I think anyone that's like, what is it too biased? Is that what's robbing people? What's what's ruby?

00:07:56
Speaker 3: I think I think actually, like we talked about this during the last show and on the show, there's too many people in those press rooms that are all just about themselves and their brand. Those old school reporters, maybe they do have a little homersm in them, but they are there on the beat every day.

00:08:09
Speaker 2: Like that, we established that Lynn Jones are Yeah, Lyn Jones was not lucky to have a job.

00:08:14
Speaker 3: She was not a beat reporter for the Jags, which she was there covering the Jagson guys.

00:08:18
Speaker 6: I made this point on the previous show that I have absolutely no problem with what Lynn Jones did because it came from a good place.

00:08:28
Speaker 2: I feel, is there an integrity line, like you've got this is your world? Though?

00:08:33
Speaker 6: My point is, and the people you talked about are people who don't get it. Professionalism, credibility, and fun and humor.

00:08:45
Speaker 7: Don't have to be mutually exclusive.

00:08:48
Speaker 6: You can be professional and credible and still have fun at the same time.

00:08:54
Speaker 7: It doesn't have to be either or.

00:08:55
Speaker 6: I think all the anger in the sports media is being directed at her for this when the bigger problem is there are people who go too far to the extreme. They're there completely to take selfies and to get on TV by asking stupid questions at press conferences and to be answered.

00:09:17
Speaker 7: And you know, I think got your moment.

00:09:18
Speaker 6: I think the term is jock sniffing just to be around these athletes for their own clout. Socially, I think that's.

00:09:24
Speaker 1: Why the access is so intoxicating.

00:09:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, so what Lone Crown is saying here is you could still have integrity and be credible, but still be kind.

00:09:32
Speaker 7: Kind of have fun, have humor.

00:09:35
Speaker 3: On her side, I don't think you understand that, but there's a lot of people that are, and it just went a little too far.

00:09:39
Speaker 2: I think it was just a little bit too much alike. But she was a she was a sweet woman, sweet some kind words. I'm just saying, I can't And you know what, though he is a young man who had a good seaton, I can't cut from a different perspective. But I can't fathom why anyone when I heard that there was like pushback. I thought it was a joker as well. Who could possibly who could possibly not like these kind words this woman, because it came from a good place, not a hey, look at me while I take a selfie and live tweet.

00:10:05
Speaker 1: This right right, And it's not a gotcha sort of.

00:10:09
Speaker 3: But okay, but like he's again, it's not you don't need to like console people up there like as if his house just burned down, like it's sports. Like it's like it's like you can keep your head up fine, he's doing fine, he's doing fine.

00:10:22
Speaker 2: You can't in one breath say it's just sports and then make it seem like like credible reporting is the only sports you'll consume, like way, which is it?

00:10:31
Speaker 3: Well, I do trust someone more so like working for like an outlet, like a like a Snoops Callahan.

00:10:36
Speaker 1: Well, no, but one person isn't that person?

00:10:38
Speaker 3: Well, because they are they're like like we know how much beat reporters make.

00:10:42
Speaker 2: They don't make a lot of It's like a Burt Sugar type where other people are like in a notepair like Scoops.

00:10:47
Speaker 3: Callahan know anything about journalistic integrity. And they're they're getting credentials as well, and they're they're the ones who I think are kind of muddying. They're kind of you know, welliams coach Duval give me the scoops. Yeah, he wants the old school beat writer. You know what this is all coming from. I know where Rich's heart is coming from. We used to work with a bunch of old school newspaper dudes and they were rude and mean to us.

00:11:12
Speaker 2: And that's the truth. There was a show called there was a show called Daily News Live. This is really the root of wear Rich. It was a show called Daily News Live on s n Y and it was a bunch of old gray hair, mustache shuit wearing round him or me to us that's the truth. And yeah, I know they can get names. Joe. I didn't go really yeah, really kind put it that way, you know, but you know, looking back, it was a great hair them. Like here we are two idiots walking in way ahead of the trend that is lifestyle and fun with sports today. Right, We're on TV walking into their world, like hey, telling fart jokes. But you know, we're having fun with it. You know, I don't blame them as old veterans to to to not really like us or get us. How about that. But guess what their show got canceled because no one cared anymore. But again, you could see the con right to be fair, like so you know when you were sort of mean mugged and judge from that perspective, you could see where we're coming from, Like, there's room for both guys. You could have your credible mustache reporters with their little notepads and typewriters. You could have that. There's a place for that. But you know what, sports is fun and there's a place for us, and there's a place for fun and kindness that Lynn Jones expressed this weekend. Have no issues with it at all.

00:12:26
Speaker 6: And also I think you guys would go about something like this in the right way. For example, if you guys went out to quote unquote cover a game or do interviews at a game, I think you would handle it the right way.

00:12:39
Speaker 7: I would think you would kind of hang.

00:12:40
Speaker 6: Back while everybody's on deadline, and then maybe you'd find a player who wasn't being interviewed and none of the other reporters were there, and you'd have your fun with them. You would do your stuff, but you do it in a respectful way to everybody else.

00:12:52
Speaker 2: I'm just always fascinated to how people like sport. The sports fan is a is a beard, drinking fun love then hanging with their buddies, busting balls, doing all this. Meanwhile like face painted beer Hill, they're painting their face there. You know, the average sports fan is in such a casual mode. Yet it's like you need a guy with a mustache and a tie to tell you like the injury report or something like. I don't know. To me, it's like it's such an old school way to think, and you're realizing why the biggest shows on all the networks. Look at all the networks, what are the shows that are growing the fastest? Do I think the ones that the ones that are are the ones that are gonna win, the ones that.

00:13:31
Speaker 6: That conversational and laid back conversational, because you can still be professional, you can still be credible, and you can still have fun making orange pit noises and putting a whoopee cushion on Coveno.

00:13:43
Speaker 3: Him brought in his guests, are the people that do this do it like professionally, Your your Andy Stables, your Pete, the amimals, you know, your your your pat forties, those are the people that are Those are but today's you should those guys are sports video Wanna, That's that's on you, Today's sports Sports illustrated for Yahoo.

00:14:03
Speaker 2: They're different. It's illustrated still prints. Okay, well, I'm just saying that they're profession Football Phone too is them. They're still looked at as the people that you should go to for correct san Orsini because she hangs out with the team and those people. You know, she's in that boat as well, Kay Adams because she's hot Adams, She's hot and hot female.

00:14:22
Speaker 6: Reporters, I would say, to be honest, I would say the access that a list players and coaches and sports people get are more the fun types than the quote unquote serious traditional types. I would also say that most good reporters they don't bother with press conferences any more. The best stories are found kind of off to the side with coordinators and assistant coaches. That's where you get the real scoops and and the and the the bench players. But getting back to it, if you look look at Aaron Rodgers and his weekly appearances, they are going for the exclusive interviews with frankly guys like you.

00:14:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and you know what. I think you're going back and forth on where broadcasting, broadcasting and reporting should be. I think there's room for both. You need credible. Yeah, this is a story of how is kindness being judged in this moment. That's what we're getting lost in the mix. And if you met also on a local market Cavino, where there's been very little success, right, Jacksonville has been a Jacksonville has been for the most part, other than the you know, maybe like a season with like who is their quarterback Byron Leftwitch or like like one of those standalone Brunell where they had like maybe one or two good runs here or there. For the most part, Danny, since the Jags have been created, they've been a bottom feeder. Rookie coach comes in, puts his team not only in the map, but Blake Bortles disagrees with you. Blake bortlesc championship Lake Bortles hairline. You know that was my favorite story about the Jags. You see it when from nothing to something?

00:15:56
Speaker 6: What?

00:15:56
Speaker 8: And let me remind you how we got here. You were giving away your third game ball, so Rich not to put you on the spot. Who gets a game ball tonight?

00:16:05
Speaker 2: Hmm? I think tonight, I think the world.

00:16:09
Speaker 8: I mean because I think Covino's leaning Steelers. I am because that was our pick. Yeah, you and I both agreed on that. Rich the other direction, Rich's Texans tonight.

00:16:20
Speaker 2: Well we'll got at the points spread now. I mean, listen, I'm a Niners guy, so I got love for DeMarco Ryans and Demiko RNs. I'm sorry what he did with the forty nine Ers. Dimiko Rens whin. You know, I really liked him and I was happy for a success early on. So what's a better team? Probably have the Texans to move on, But how do we all not root for the storyline of Aaron Rodgers just to see how long could the old guy have it keep it going like I agree, I agree with rich So what's and also ask I'll give the game ball to Rogers tonight. I think that'd be cool. Ask yourself this, Danny j next week when you're, you know, hang with Brenda and Cohen, the it's an everyone and you're hanging out, what game do you want on in the background? Do you want Texans Patriots? To me, that sounds like a game you'd half watch in the background on a Sunday night. Or Aaron Rodgers possibly his last game versus the Patriots, who somehow are miraculously back on top. Think I think Aaron Rodgers is the story we all want to say. Agreed, and Lynn Jones, to wrap it up of the Jacksonville Free Press defended her decision on offering Jaguars head coach Liam Cohen where's of encouragement and the fact that she has to defend her kindness is sort of an odd thing. She defends her line of questioning to the head coach, and she says, I take no offense to it. Listen, I've been in this business more than twenty five years. You got to realize that she's an older woman talking to a younger man just saying, keep your head up, dude. Novel. Yeah, it's a wonderful moment that happened. I don't think she jeopardized her credibility in any way. The fact that we even have to talk about it is odd to me. Hey, that's the story. You said something that I feel like applies to so much in life. You said, so many things are are not mutually exclusive, but people insist that they are. Can you just tell everyone one more time? Repeat? Because I thought it was really insightful. There's so many layers here that people think have to be tied together.

00:18:16
Speaker 6: You can be credible, professional formal, but that doesn't mean you can't at the same time be funny, loosen your tie.

00:18:30
Speaker 7: And have a great time.

00:18:32
Speaker 6: I don't know why it has to be either or both, and that's where everyone is getting their Undi's in a bundle about this situation.

00:18:40
Speaker 2: I do both of the same time.

00:18:42
Speaker 3: I describe Isaac honestly, Isaac is someone who's very professional and credible, and then he comes up with these fun bits. He'll go digging for sound and make things really fun. You know, is you're describing yourself.

00:18:51
Speaker 2: I saw zhen Kron in the Kobe Bryant documentary interviewing a young Kobe Bryant, and then you also saw the same guy.

00:19:00
Speaker 8: There's a category. There's another category coming up in Last one Standing for that.

00:19:04
Speaker 1: Oh, I can't wait, you know what. I just think that's a great example.

00:19:07
Speaker 2: Not to get political, but I feel like so many things in life, even with politics, we feel like things need to be black or white, where things need to be mutually exclusive, like this terrible situation in Minnesota. Right, it's like you either like you don't need to have the side of ice or this unfortunate woman that lost her life. You could there there could be a gray area in between. It's like what are you doing over there for? But doesn't deserve to die? Like there is we we don't need to always think in black and white. And Isaac, that was a great point.

00:19:33
Speaker 6: Thank you, because sports and real life are complexed and nuanced in a way that often doesn't fit into two hundred and eighty characters.

00:19:43
Speaker 2: Case closed. There you go, good one, Thank you. And if you followed up with a fart, all right, listen, we're gonna play Last one Standing. It's a fun game. I know you on in eight seven to seven nine nine on Fox will do that, and we got calls about Tom Brady. I guess people are either loving or hating Tom Brady in the boots will take a Brady calls and we'll play our game all next, All right here, Cavin on Rich on Fox Sports Radio. Draftkinks Sportsbook use, a special sports betting part of the NFL, makes every playoff moment feel bigger. I was looking at my mom on my way here.

00:20:15
Speaker 1: She's like, did Rich put his bets in?

00:20:18
Speaker 2: You know? It's so funny easily, you know, sometimes you don't want to wager on your own team as a jinx, and I felt so passionately that the Niners could at least keep it close, but I hid didn't do anything I wish I would have. But hey, seven point dogs in Seattle, if that goes up to seven and a half, you might get me pulling the trigger on that one. So hey, DraftKings has your back early exit protection too, And this applied to George Kittle yesterday, So that's cool. If you have a player that's eligible in a prop bet and they go down in the first half, you're off the hook for that. So that's that's a pretty big deal. You still get paid well get pad in cash so download the DraftKings Sports Book Gap use our code see our show. That's code see our show. And it's really something that formally I don't think the forty nine ers have to address until later in the week when you actually have to start putting out formal injury reports, which you have to start putting out. On Wednesday, we begin with some news breaking. Just in the last couple of seconds, another announcement about an interview, but it's not for a head coaching interview. NFL media reporting Mike McDaniel will interview for the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator job tomorrow. It was already reported that today McDaniel interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons for their head coaching jobs. The Falcons announced that they've interviewed former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh for their head coaching job. Buffalo Bill's head coach Sean McDermott announced the receiver Gabe Davis suffered a torn acl in his left knee in yesterday's win at Jacksonville. Bill's defensive tackle Ed Oliver will be designated for return from injured reserve this week. Elsewhere in the NBA, the league find Jalen Brown of the Boston Celtics thirty five thousand dollars for public criticism of the officiating. Finally, in the National Hockey League, the Columbus Blue Jackets today fired head coach Dean Everison.
