<v Speaker 3>middle school, where he was burying backyard wrestling, saying that's
<v Speaker 3>not what we do. You know, we're trained professionals. Don't

<v Speaker 3>ya YadA, And I just took that to heart and
<v Speaker 3>I was like, Okay. So even though it was like
<v Speaker 3>a trend and really popular and I was for sure

<v Speaker 3>focused on like sports and stuff because that's what I
<v Speaker 3>thought I should do. So I did, you know, football, wrestling, baseball,

<v Speaker 3>supposed to do something and we were just completely basically
<v Speaker 3>fucking around and we didn't want to do what we

<v Speaker 3>we were doing no holds barred too, but like we

<v Speaker 3>Point, backyard race backyard wrestling was so popular and like trendy,
<v Speaker 3>and like I was very itchy to do it.
<v Speaker 4>I just was like the kid's backyard wrestle. Now, like
<v Speaker 4>I don't know if it's a thing.
<v Speaker 5>Maybe I could see the anything still it's less like
<v Speaker 5>mainstream and cool, but I'm sure it was a thing.
<v Speaker 3>It was a thing video games and it was cool.
<v Speaker 5>All loved it.
<v Speaker 1>John Soulio Swallow, Swallow, What was the hardest part of
<v Speaker 1>wrestling school, the bumps, the financial issues, relationship issues, et cetera.
<v Speaker 4>First, like for me, you know, I was backyarding and
<v Speaker 4>like I didn't know what I was doing. I knew
<v Speaker 4>moves and stuff like that, and like I thought I
<v Speaker 4>was so good And it wasn't until I got to
<v Speaker 4>wrestling school and I realized there was actual formula to
<v Speaker 4>a match. And at first it was like hard for
<v Speaker 4>me to comprehend. Like I've been watching wrestling my whole life,
<v Speaker 4>I didn't did. I thought I knew everything, but I
<v Speaker 4>didn't know there was something called shine hea didn't come back.
<v Speaker 4>It's like understand that concept was like confusing. But then,
<v Speaker 4>like I remember, Mike, you wou kind of like drew
<v Speaker 4>it out in like a dry erase board or a chalkboard, and.
<v Speaker 5>I'll never forget.
<v Speaker 4>I had like an aha moment. I think, Yeah, like
<v Speaker 4>once he like explained it like that, I really understood
<v Speaker 4>it and it really is so simple. But like like
<v Speaker 4>I said, I was a diehard wrestling fan doing this
<v Speaker 4>back at wrestling and I never even picked up on
<v Speaker 4>the shine heat come back portion of a match.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, for me, I think it was just like the
<v Speaker 3>the persistence of it and like the patients, because it's
<v Speaker 3>like if you go to a regular gym and you know,
<v Speaker 3>whatever you have it you do you do arms for
<v Speaker 3>the day, You're not going to walk out of that
<v Speaker 3>gym and have like big, awesome biceps. It's when you
<v Speaker 3>do it, you know, every week for this amount of time.
<v Speaker 3>And that's how pro wrestling is. It's so weird and
<v Speaker 3>it's an art craft and it's it's so bizarre and
<v Speaker 3>unique to itself and it takes a lot of like
<v Speaker 3>discipline and learning and patience, and I think that's what
<v Speaker 3>you know. There's no like instant uh satisfaction when you're
<v Speaker 3>trained to be a pro wrestler. Really, you know that,
<v Speaker 3>Like Matt said, like people who like watch their whole lives. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>you can like okay, do a move and you know
<v Speaker 3>because you watched it and you're pretty close to it.
<v Speaker 5>But you know, that's about it.
<v Speaker 1>As averletic guys, did you guys ever have issues picking
<v Speaker 1>things up or it was just pretty much easy for you?
<v Speaker 4>Like I remember, like, so this is horrible to say,
<v Speaker 4>but like I came from backyard wrestling where it was
<v Speaker 4>on public access, and like one of our guys Steel
<v Speaker 4>Cage Customs went to NYWC to learn how to wrestle
<v Speaker 4>and then would come and teach us like chain and
<v Speaker 4>stuff like that. It's like I couldn't like admit that,
<v Speaker 4>so I would have to be like, hey, guys, can
<v Speaker 4>you teach me this? Knowing that knew how to do it,
<v Speaker 4>just want to start using it in practice. And then
<v Speaker 4>eventually like Spider came in, like yo, whanka, that's Bret
<v Speaker 4>Matthews and like he do like rather be at Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>But I remember like it was like the first day
<v Speaker 4>of the first week. I forget who was actually like
<v Speaker 4>training with me, and this guy Ken Scampy, who was
<v Speaker 4>before Mikey Whipper was like the real trainer, was like
<v Speaker 4>whoever was there that day was training and he said
<v Speaker 4>like raise your hand if you want to like make
<v Speaker 4>it the WWE, and like I did, and maybe like
<v Speaker 4>one or two other people did, and I'm thinking, like, well, fuck,
<v Speaker 4>why are you in this mist school? You don't want
<v Speaker 4>to be a WWE. That's what I'm thinking about. Everyone
<v Speaker 4>else didn't raise their head and then like he like
<v Speaker 4>healed us out and like started like chopping us, saying
<v Speaker 4>we're never gonna make it, and like I left that
<v Speaker 4>day thinking like what the fuck am I doing? You know,
<v Speaker 4>like why am I getting like chopped for wanting to
<v Speaker 4>be a wae wrestler, Like isn't that why I went
<v Speaker 4>to wrestling school. It's not like I went to like
<v Speaker 4>like a baseball camp and and I'm saying I want
<v Speaker 4>to be a wrestler, way the wrestle of school say
<v Speaker 4>I want to be a wrestler. So like, mentally, it
<v Speaker 4>was kind of like what am I doing?
<v Speaker 5>Ken Scampy was a swell guy one time, Like it.
<v Speaker 3>Was like had to be like three weeks ish into
<v Speaker 3>like wrestling training. He like he gave me like a
<v Speaker 3>like I don't remember what if it was a kick
<v Speaker 3>or a punch or whatever, but it was a pro
<v Speaker 3>wrestling style strike, so like I didn't actually feel it,
<v Speaker 3>and then I couldn't I didn't know how to sell
<v Speaker 3>yet I didn't realize like, oh, I don't know.
<v Speaker 5>Like it was.
<v Speaker 3>I think what happened was I winced and I closed
<v Speaker 3>my eye so I didn't see like where he hit me,
<v Speaker 3>so I didn't react to and he got hot that
<v Speaker 3>in some and he just flat out like looked at
<v Speaker 3>me and then kicked me dead and dick with like
<v Speaker 3>a soccer kick.
<v Speaker 4>Jesus, And I actually like Skimpy a lot, But some
<v Speaker 4>of that earlier stuff I do, I do like scat
<v Speaker 4>I do funny.
<v Speaker 1>They answered that question is getting kicked in the penis
<v Speaker 1>Michael Ricco. What were their expectations when they got into
<v Speaker 1>the business on the indie scene.
<v Speaker 3>To get to w W A, Yeah, I don't know, Like, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>it's so. I mean I tell people this will come
<v Speaker 3>to my school now, Like it's okay to to look
<v Speaker 3>at it, like the way my civilian friends, like they
<v Speaker 3>play softball. They have a softball league and they it's
<v Speaker 3>their one thing they look forward to. Like you can
<v Speaker 3>have that mentality, that's fine, but so much more would
<v Speaker 3>go into it because it's wrestling than just showing up
<v Speaker 3>to play softball, and it's souffle like you know, like
<v Speaker 3>it's a lot more just dangerous and time consuming and
<v Speaker 3>it's just it's a weird thing to have your foot,
<v Speaker 3>you know, only one foot in the pond of it,
<v Speaker 3>you know.
<v Speaker 4>Right, Like you need gear. You need to look good.
<v Speaker 4>You need to be in shape, both like look like
<v Speaker 4>you're in shape and actually be in shape be able
<v Speaker 4>to go have like gas in the tank, be.
<v Speaker 3>Athletic learn this weird psychology, like all kinds of.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, a lot they're you know, I don't have a
<v Speaker 4>wrestling school. I can't pretend to know what it's like.
<v Speaker 4>But like I can speak to when I was at
<v Speaker 4>a school, and there were definitely people there who just
<v Speaker 4>wanted to wrestle that one Saturday in front of their
<v Speaker 4>friends and family at the Deer Park Community Center. And
<v Speaker 4>that was fine, and that's that's cool, But I.
<v Speaker 1>Do you want that? You want? They need to take
<v Speaker 1>it seriously?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, because you still have to take it to a
<v Speaker 3>certain level of seriousness to even just you're putting other
<v Speaker 3>people's life is livelihood in your hands.
<v Speaker 5>It's freaking dangerous. Man. You can't just be there to
<v Speaker 5>hang out and have fun. Really.
<v Speaker 4>And I remember one time, so Brian started like the
<v Speaker 4>summer before me, then went away to school, but he
<v Speaker 4>was still like at the school. It would come back
<v Speaker 4>for like Thanksgiving or whatever the breaks, and she liked
<v Speaker 4>the entry in it. But I was there, so we
<v Speaker 4>didn't really quite know each other, but then we became
<v Speaker 4>partners blah blah blah. But then I remember, like while
<v Speaker 4>Brian was like away at school, like Shane or Wayne.
<v Speaker 4>He was like the booker of MWWC. He's like we
<v Speaker 4>had this like big talk and he wanted me to
<v Speaker 4>like turn on Brian and like go for like the
<v Speaker 4>interstate title. I was like, no, like I don't want
<v Speaker 4>to be the interstate champion. I want to I know
<v Speaker 4>that our meal ticket is being a team and getting
<v Speaker 4>noticed in these other places. I think this is like
<v Speaker 4>there was a discrepancy, like we were like the NYWC
<v Speaker 4>Tag team champions and they didn't want us losing in
<v Speaker 4>Jersey All Pro and I'm thinking, like what the fuck?
<v Speaker 4>Even then, I knew this was so stupid. And then
<v Speaker 4>that's where it's like, well, you should turn on them,
<v Speaker 4>you should you know, you should be your singles guy here.
<v Speaker 4>I'm like, I don't want to be the singles guy here.
<v Speaker 4>I never want to be the interstate champion. I never
<v Speaker 4>want to be the world champion, the NYWC World champion, whatever.
<v Speaker 4>I want to get out of here. And I think
<v Speaker 4>that was like a big like where people think, well
<v Speaker 4>not then there was like a weird like that I changed.

<v Speaker 1>wanted to be in the WB, but I'm finding it
<v Speaker 1>at that you a belt that Borrowski did not want
<v Speaker 1>to win titles in and.
<v Speaker 4>Win all the titles because I knew what would.

<v Speaker 1>And really, when you think back on it, that's how
<v Speaker 1>he was noticed by Cody in the first place doing
<v Speaker 1>those shows.
<v Speaker 4>So yeah, interesting.
<v Speaker 1>Anyway, interesting Broskie, Uh, Victor Laiva, what was one of
<v Speaker 1>the most surprising things you learned about wrestling on and DS.
<v Speaker 4>Sean Heat come back?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'd say it's more of that stuff because like
<v Speaker 3>I was such a fan of indie wrestling, Like once
<v Speaker 3>I discovered indie wrestling, I was like so in love
<v Speaker 3>with it like I figured out what like USA Pro was,
<v Speaker 3>and I would just go to the shows, and like
<v Speaker 3>I look forward to that more than like that would
<v Speaker 3>be television and stuff. I was so like, cause you're
<v Speaker 3>just it's so even like you know, you guys canna
<v Speaker 3>test it like when your friends and family come to
<v Speaker 3>see you. It's so like intimate. You know, It's like
<v Speaker 3>it's like so close to everything. It's just something about it.
<v Speaker 3>I just freaking. I just felt like head first in
<v Speaker 3>love with like indie pro wrestling, and then once I
<v Speaker 3>discovered it, so like a lot of things didn't shock
<v Speaker 3>me because I was already like I befriended this guy,
<v Speaker 3>Sean the Mick, who wrote this like a newsletter for
<v Speaker 3>the he was called the Decorations of Independence the d I,
<v Speaker 3>which which got like a little notoriety and buzz at
<v Speaker 3>the time and stuff. But basically like every weekend while
<v Speaker 3>I was training, I would hop in the car with
<v Speaker 3>him and go to like whatever cool Northeast Indie and
<v Speaker 3>go for free meet everybody. All I really had to
<v Speaker 3>do was like I'd have to like kind of run
<v Speaker 3>a table and try to sell these newsletters and stuff.
<v Speaker 5>But it was like very minimal you know, work and
<v Speaker 5>he would report on.
<v Speaker 3>The show and write a report and like I met
<v Speaker 3>so much, like that's how I first met Striker and
<v Speaker 3>pop it on all these guys that you know to
<v Speaker 3>this day that like you know, because I was just
<v Speaker 3>like they're meeting them and literally just being a fanboy
<v Speaker 3>and like a sponge, you know, like I wanted to
<v Speaker 3>like be these guys so bad, so I was asking
<v Speaker 3>questions and so nothing really like shocked me, really hot
<v Speaker 3>because I was so excited about it.
<v Speaker 1>Hot stuff I loved.
<v Speaker 4>I loved hot. I love hot stuff. I thought, like
<v Speaker 4>I guess it was shocking to me. Like I never
<v Speaker 4>liked indie wrestling. I never I knew about it for
<v Speaker 4>my magazines, but I never went to indie shows. Like
<v Speaker 4>I went to one n YWC show just beside them, yes,
<v Speaker 4>just to size up Dan Barry, Johnny Ova, to be like,
<v Speaker 4>all right, these are the guys.

<v Speaker 4>I'm like, oh, I got this because those were like
<v Speaker 4>the guys from MWC, Johnny Ova and Dan Barry. Dan
<v Speaker 4>Barry is still super talented, one of my good friends.

<v Speaker 4>But I guess, like something that shocked me. I guess
<v Speaker 4>it's almost like in retrospect is like you know, I
<v Speaker 4>think Mikey Whipwreck realized, uh, like who really wanted and
<v Speaker 4>stuff like that. So you know, after practice, like I
<v Speaker 4>would go out with him to like the diner and
<v Speaker 4>stuff like that, like sometimes like just us and like
<v Speaker 4>at the time, I just thought like we were getting
<v Speaker 4>something to eat, and it's like years later I realized,
<v Speaker 4>oh no, like he was like instilling me like respect
<v Speaker 4>for the business and teaching me things that like are
<v Speaker 4>like invaluable lessons like who they fuck cares about a
